0:54:08 > 0:54:10Welcome to Wanted Down Under,

0:54:10 > 0:54:13the show that catapults a British family right across

0:54:13 > 0:54:16to the other side of the world to help them

0:54:16 > 0:54:22make the biggest decision of their lives - whether to stay in the UK or to move to Australia.

0:54:22 > 0:54:26Tina Saunders lives with her family in south London.

0:54:26 > 0:54:29Her dream is to move to Australia.

0:54:29 > 0:54:31I've always had in the back of my mind that I would possibly want to go away.

0:54:31 > 0:54:38She's tempted by a brand new start in a beautiful, fairy-tale setting, but not all the family agree.

0:54:38 > 0:54:39Everyone knows that...

0:54:39 > 0:54:42I didn't want to come in the first place.

0:54:42 > 0:54:44The job situation here

0:54:44 > 0:54:49would be the make or break and I don't think he's able to change.

0:54:53 > 0:54:55This week hasn't gone anything like I thought it would.

0:54:55 > 0:54:57It's been a bit of a nightmare, I think.

0:54:57 > 0:55:04The Saunders have a roller-coaster week ahead but will they vote for Australia or will Tina's dreams

0:55:04 > 0:55:06end up in tatters?

0:55:29 > 0:55:35Around 150 people a day migrate to Australia in search of a better life.

0:55:35 > 0:55:39And anyone who's under the age of 45 and on the skill shortage list

0:55:39 > 0:55:42could be heading down under at the head of the queue.

0:55:42 > 0:55:48But for all these families, how hard is the decision, and do they find what they're looking for?

0:55:48 > 0:55:5220 British families have been pushed to breaking point

0:55:52 > 0:55:54as they try out real life down under.

0:55:54 > 0:55:59And after just one week they will have to vote one way or the other.

0:55:59 > 0:56:02Will they stay in the UK or move to Australia?

0:56:06 > 0:56:09Robin and Tina Saunders live in a three-bedroomed terrace

0:56:09 > 0:56:13in the London borough of Sutton with Tina's daughter Lauren and their children -

0:56:13 > 0:56:16three-year-old Jack, and Grace, who's two.

0:56:16 > 0:56:18But they've outgrown their home.

0:56:18 > 0:56:22The energetic youngsters need all the space the Saunders can muster

0:56:22 > 0:56:26and have even relegated Mum and Dad to the box room.

0:56:26 > 0:56:30Me and Rob are in the smallest room, which means we've only got about

0:56:30 > 0:56:35one-and-a-half foot to squeeze down at night to get into bed and I'm right against the wall.

0:56:35 > 0:56:41It's Tina's dream to move to a country where they can afford more space, inside and out.

0:56:41 > 0:56:43And somewhere she can hang up her washing.

0:56:43 > 0:56:50So this is what we are reduced to - having washing and ironing hanging from most places we can find.

0:56:51 > 0:56:53Perhaps Australia would be big enough.

0:56:53 > 0:56:57A laundry room would be just perfect.

0:56:57 > 0:57:01I'd probably stay in there most of the day, just doing my washing. I'd be in my element.

0:57:01 > 0:57:07Moving abroad is something Tina's always dreamt of but is she on a lone mission?

0:57:07 > 0:57:10I've always had in the back of my mind that I would possibly

0:57:10 > 0:57:13want to go away, so that's when I started looking at Australia.

0:57:13 > 0:57:20Basically, I've just been trying to work on Rob, trying to get him round to thinking about going.

0:57:20 > 0:57:23It's been really hard, even discussing it.

0:57:23 > 0:57:27A lot of the time I bring the subject up and he wouldn't want to talk about it.

0:57:27 > 0:57:33Robin and his parents have lived in the area all their lives and he doesn't see the need for change.

0:57:33 > 0:57:36It is a long way. It's not just round the corner.

0:57:36 > 0:57:40And if anything happened to close family, close friends,

0:57:40 > 0:57:43you can't just say, "I'll be there in a couple of hours."

0:57:43 > 0:57:47You're going to be there in 24 hours. It's a long, long way to go.

0:57:47 > 0:57:51Jack will phone and say, "Granddad, I want you to come to my house."

0:57:51 > 0:57:54So yes, and I would miss them.

0:57:54 > 0:57:55- We'll miss them, won't we?- Terrible.

0:57:55 > 0:58:0212-year-old Lauren would miss her grandmother, whom she lived with until she was six.

0:58:02 > 0:58:05It's in the back of the stitch, babes.

0:58:05 > 0:58:08I would miss her a lot - an awful lot.

0:58:08 > 0:58:11Because...we're very close.

0:58:11 > 0:58:12Basically.

0:58:12 > 0:58:16To lose Lauren, more than myself, probably,

0:58:16 > 0:58:18it's going to be devastating for my mum.

0:58:18 > 0:58:22That's like the difficult burden I'm going to have, really.

0:58:22 > 0:58:26But Lauren still likes the idea of moving.

0:58:26 > 0:58:28I really, really want to go.

0:58:28 > 0:58:32I just really, really want to go, basically.

0:58:32 > 0:58:36Tina's just started a three-year course to be a midwife

0:58:36 > 0:58:39and she's hoping to continue her studies down under.

0:58:39 > 0:58:43That's really important to me, my studies.

0:58:43 > 0:58:45I've wanted to be a midwife for a long time.

0:58:47 > 0:58:50But it's Robin's job as an orthopaedic shoemaker that would

0:58:50 > 0:58:53provide the entrance fees and primary income.

0:58:53 > 0:58:57He's worked in the same job for 25 years.

0:58:57 > 0:58:59It's all Tina's idea.

0:58:59 > 0:59:01None of my idea at all. I don't know anything else.

0:59:01 > 0:59:04This is the job I do.

0:59:04 > 0:59:09Leaving here would be, obviously, hard because I get on with lots of people here.

0:59:09 > 0:59:12He's only been to two job interviews in his life.

0:59:12 > 0:59:14He wrote a CV very recently.

0:59:14 > 0:59:17He just doesn't deviate at all from what he normally does

0:59:17 > 0:59:19and that, I think, is going to be a major problem.

0:59:19 > 0:59:23I like routine but Tina doesn't like routine.

0:59:23 > 0:59:27She likes to change. I like to look for now and just do day-in, day-out.

0:59:27 > 0:59:34He's just stuck in his little rut and I think it's going to be really difficult for him to think

0:59:34 > 0:59:38about trying to get off of that and moving.

0:59:38 > 0:59:43I really can't... I don't know how he's going to manage the change.

0:59:43 > 0:59:46I can't foresee him adapting that well.

0:59:46 > 0:59:51We're going to help the Saunders make a decision by sending them to Brisbane.

0:59:51 > 0:59:55Brisbane is the state capital of Queensland and is on the doorstep

0:59:55 > 0:59:59to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

1:00:00 > 1:00:06The Saunders' property budget of £225,000 should get them a nice home if they shop around.

1:00:08 > 1:00:14We found three possible lifestyles for our family, each one offering

1:00:14 > 1:00:18a new way of life for them to try on their budget.

1:00:18 > 1:00:21But which one will be the most suitable?

1:00:22 > 1:00:25First up is life in the city.

1:00:25 > 1:00:27Brisbane's South Bank

1:00:27 > 1:00:29provides barbecues, Splash Parks

1:00:29 > 1:00:31and even a purpose-built beach -

1:00:31 > 1:00:34perfect for families like the Saunders who have energy to burn.

1:00:34 > 1:00:37Robin would enjoy living near to his work

1:00:37 > 1:00:41and he would also be able to match his £25,000 salary.

1:00:41 > 1:00:45But property prices in the centre have boomed in recent years

1:00:45 > 1:00:48and the Saunders would have to make do with even less space

1:00:48 > 1:00:50than they have in the UK.

1:00:50 > 1:00:55This three-bedroomed apartment is on the market for £350,000.

1:00:55 > 1:00:59They'd have to work hard to afford somewhere like this.

1:00:59 > 1:01:03So, very different from their life in the UK.

1:01:03 > 1:01:05But what about the second option?

1:01:07 > 1:01:08The Gold Coast is an hour's drive

1:01:08 > 1:01:10south of Brisbane and renowned

1:01:10 > 1:01:11for sun-kissed beaches.

1:01:11 > 1:01:15The Saunders wouldn't be able to afford a waterfront property,

1:01:15 > 1:01:19which can run into millions, but if they are prepared

1:01:19 > 1:01:22to move inland, they could snap up a three-bedroom house

1:01:22 > 1:01:25within their £225,000 price range.

1:01:25 > 1:01:28However, there wouldn't be work here for Robin,

1:01:28 > 1:01:31so he would have to commute at least an hour into the city.

1:01:31 > 1:01:34That all looks very inviting.

1:01:34 > 1:01:36But what about the third option?

1:01:37 > 1:01:39Queensland's national parks

1:01:39 > 1:01:41are some of the area's hidden gems -

1:01:41 > 1:01:44perfect for families like the Saunders

1:01:44 > 1:01:47who love the outdoor lifestyle.

1:01:47 > 1:01:50Properties in Brisbane's outer suburbs are much cheaper.

1:01:50 > 1:01:53You can also buy a plot here and design your own house.

1:01:53 > 1:01:59So the Saunders could create a home to suit their taste and budget.

1:01:59 > 1:02:03However, Robin would face a 40-minute commute to work.

1:02:03 > 1:02:08Three very different options there, all of them life-changing.

1:02:08 > 1:02:11So where did we decide to send our family?

1:02:11 > 1:02:16We've decided the rural option is the most suitable for the Saunders.

1:02:16 > 1:02:19It will provide them with the larger house they're desperate for,

1:02:19 > 1:02:23within their budget. We've set up some properties for them to look at.

1:02:23 > 1:02:27Wow. This is quite impressive, isn't it?

1:02:27 > 1:02:30And we've arranged a trial day at a job for Robin.

1:02:30 > 1:02:33- Get stuck in.- OK, then.

1:02:33 > 1:02:38But this trip proves a lot harder than the Saunders ever imagined.

1:02:38 > 1:02:41This is the toughest decision they'll ever have to make.

1:02:41 > 1:02:44Once you're here and the bullet's between the teeth,

1:02:44 > 1:02:47it's really difficult. It's really tough, actually.

1:02:50 > 1:02:54It's a long trip for a family with young children.

1:02:54 > 1:03:01The Saunders' journey covers 10,000 miles between London and Brisbane, and takes 23 hours.

1:03:01 > 1:03:05PILOT RADIO-TALK

1:03:05 > 1:03:09The family touch down at 7.30pm local time.

1:03:09 > 1:03:12It's the furthest they've ever been from home.

1:03:12 > 1:03:16They're excited to have finally made it.

1:03:16 > 1:03:18It's our first time here, yes.

1:03:18 > 1:03:22We looked and we couldn't see obviously because it's night time

1:03:22 > 1:03:25and we could only see the lights, saw the skyscrapers and the river but that was about it.

1:03:25 > 1:03:28Lauren's feeling the effects of the flight.

1:03:28 > 1:03:29Aw, she's tired!

1:03:33 > 1:03:37Oh, bless. See? It's always the teenage ones, isn't it?

1:03:37 > 1:03:40Mum!

1:03:40 > 1:03:46Tina's always been the one driving the move but she's worried about getting cold feet.

1:03:46 > 1:03:49I'll be horrified if I hate it, really.

1:03:49 > 1:03:51That's my worst fear - that I don't like it as much as

1:03:51 > 1:03:54I thought I would - if it's not up to my expectations.

1:03:54 > 1:03:58Robin's very aware of the one thing that could get in the way of everything.

1:03:58 > 1:04:00The job situation, that's a big worry.

1:04:00 > 1:04:03Without a job, then you obviously can't come. Financial-wise.

1:04:03 > 1:04:05If I like it that much and I can't get a job here, then it's a bit of

1:04:05 > 1:04:08a downer then. That's the thing I'm worried about.

1:04:08 > 1:04:12Robin has his family's future in his hands.

1:04:12 > 1:04:16But is he going to embrace the change?

1:04:20 > 1:04:25The Saunders will be able to sample everything that Brisbane has to offer.

1:04:25 > 1:04:29But first, they need to reach their rental accommodation

1:04:29 > 1:04:31to catch up on some sleep.

1:04:31 > 1:04:34They're staying in a single-storey three-bedroomed house

1:04:34 > 1:04:37in a family-friendly northern suburb of Brisbane.

1:04:37 > 1:04:41It should have more than enough space for the kids to run around

1:04:41 > 1:04:45and the master bedroom is a far cry from the box room

1:04:45 > 1:04:46Robin and Tina have at home.

1:04:51 > 1:04:53Whoa!

1:04:54 > 1:04:56Gracie, what d'you think?

1:04:56 > 1:05:00It's already ticking all the right boxes for Tina.

1:05:00 > 1:05:04Definitely bigger than our house. I like this open-plan thing, which is what we wanted.

1:05:04 > 1:05:08Lauren's room! Oh!

1:05:08 > 1:05:10Lauren's got a double bed.

1:05:10 > 1:05:12Come on then, oh!

1:05:12 > 1:05:15The children are making themselves at home and are loving

1:05:15 > 1:05:21the spacious interior, which they don't have in their house in the UK.

1:05:21 > 1:05:23Look, Gracie's sorted herself out.

1:05:23 > 1:05:25JACK LAUGHS

1:05:25 > 1:05:27All right, Jack?

1:05:28 > 1:05:30This is why we have to go out and do stuff.

1:05:30 > 1:05:34- We want a bigger garden... - You can't keep them indoors.

1:05:34 > 1:05:36You can see how they run around all day.

1:05:36 > 1:05:40You have to chase them all day - you can't have things out on the side.

1:05:40 > 1:05:43They just love to do stuff.

1:05:43 > 1:05:47But Tina's already thinking what might go wrong.

1:05:47 > 1:05:49I'm expecting him not to like his job.

1:05:49 > 1:05:50I don't think he'll like his job.

1:05:50 > 1:05:55Even if they offer twice the money for half the amount of hours,

1:05:55 > 1:05:58he won't like it because he doesn't do change.

1:05:58 > 1:06:03And, so, that's been my concern. And I think it's his concern.

1:06:03 > 1:06:08Robin is becoming aware of the significance of the potential move.

1:06:08 > 1:06:12Tomorrow, it'll probably really hit home that you are that far away

1:06:12 > 1:06:15- and it could be life-changing, couldn't it, for us?- Yeah, yeah.

1:06:15 > 1:06:19I didn't think we'd ever get here. Now we are, that's quite shocked me.

1:06:19 > 1:06:24It's a bit overwhelming in the sense that we've finally made it here.

1:06:24 > 1:06:27For me, anyway, because I'm the one always going on about it.

1:06:27 > 1:06:30Will Tina's dreams come true?

1:06:34 > 1:06:40In the UK, the Saunders live in a small terraced house in south London.

1:06:40 > 1:06:44The two youngsters have already forced Robin and Tina into the smallest room,

1:06:44 > 1:06:50but they can't afford properties in the area with more bedrooms and space to hang the laundry.

1:06:50 > 1:06:57They want to buy a four-bedroomed house in Australia and have a budget of up to £225,000.

1:06:57 > 1:07:03They hope they'll be able to afford space for all their washing.

1:07:03 > 1:07:06We've arranged some viewings in the suburb of Springfield.

1:07:06 > 1:07:14Property one is a four-bedroom house on the market for about £195,000,

1:07:14 > 1:07:16which is well below their budget.

1:07:16 > 1:07:19It's owned by British expats, Fran and Martin Dicks.

1:07:19 > 1:07:21Straight into the kitchen.

1:07:21 > 1:07:24- The whole thing's open-plan here, isn't it?- Yes.

1:07:24 > 1:07:31You can see the kids the whole time and you can still entertain and see everybody all the way round.

1:07:31 > 1:07:32That's pretty cool.

1:07:32 > 1:07:34But the best is yet to come.

1:07:36 > 1:07:38Oh...!

1:07:38 > 1:07:40Mummy's excited.

1:07:40 > 1:07:42A laundry room.

1:07:42 > 1:07:45It's probably about as big as our kitchen.

1:07:45 > 1:07:50Look! This is the main room.

1:07:50 > 1:07:53- Look. Look, Jack.- Walk-in wardrobe.

1:07:53 > 1:07:55- Put all your clothes in there. - It's big, isn't it?

1:07:55 > 1:07:59It's just handy to have an extra toilet and stuff.

1:07:59 > 1:08:03I like that as well, where you can just go out onto the patio.

1:08:03 > 1:08:04You'd have to keep your room very tidy

1:08:04 > 1:08:07because when you have visitors, they can look straight in.

1:08:07 > 1:08:10Tina knows what she wants from a house.

1:08:10 > 1:08:16I like that because I can get my nice clippy hangers for the trousers.

1:08:16 > 1:08:19This lady's good, she's got matching hangers - they're all wooden.

1:08:19 > 1:08:23- I'm sad, I know, with the hangers, I know.- No, it's nice.

1:08:23 > 1:08:27I like the idea of it being new, no work to do.

1:08:27 > 1:08:30To be honest with you, yes, I do. You can come in here, and all you

1:08:30 > 1:08:33- can do, quickly, looking round, is paint.- It's strange as well.

1:08:33 > 1:08:36There's loads of angles going on.

1:08:36 > 1:08:41We're so used to square rooms, rectangular rooms. And it's all so angular.

1:08:41 > 1:08:42That puts me off though.

1:08:42 > 1:08:45You don't like the angles?

1:08:45 > 1:08:48It's just...it messes up your brain.

1:08:48 > 1:08:53I look in here and I'm seeing a room, and I'll look in here and I'm seeing another room.

1:08:53 > 1:08:55I'm looking there and I'm seeing outside and I'm looking there,

1:08:55 > 1:08:57and I'm seeing outside.

1:08:57 > 1:09:02Apart from Lauren's angular headache, even this low-end property seems to be a hit.

1:09:02 > 1:09:06But Tina's already thinking about her family back home

1:09:06 > 1:09:09and takes the opportunity to ask Fran how she coped with the move.

1:09:09 > 1:09:16We came here 23 years ago with four kids - two, four, six and eight.

1:09:16 > 1:09:20And my dad said to me, "You're only a plane ride away."

1:09:20 > 1:09:24And he never did that kangaroo hop. He actually died when he was 60.

1:09:24 > 1:09:26Did you have any regrets about that?

1:09:26 > 1:09:28Yes, it was hard.

1:09:28 > 1:09:31We have concerns. It's a long way.

1:09:31 > 1:09:35It is a heck of a long way but...yeah.

1:09:35 > 1:09:39- It's worth it, because of the lifestyle.- Thank you. Bye-bye.

1:09:39 > 1:09:42It looks like Robin and Tina have already made friends.

1:09:42 > 1:09:46But it's time to head round the corner to property number two.

1:09:53 > 1:09:56The second house is in the newer end of Springfield

1:09:56 > 1:09:58and offers more salubrious living.

1:09:58 > 1:10:02Estate agent Paula McKee is keen to show it off.

1:10:02 > 1:10:05Welcome to 11 Neptune Street, Springfield Lakes.

1:10:05 > 1:10:09This is a four-bedroomed property, two bathrooms, en suite,

1:10:09 > 1:10:12it has ducted zoned air-conditioning, guys,

1:10:12 > 1:10:16and that offers temperature controlled heating and cooling, OK?

1:10:16 > 1:10:19- So if you'd like to come on through...- All right, then!

1:10:19 > 1:10:22It's on the market for £235,000.

1:10:22 > 1:10:24It's just over their budget

1:10:24 > 1:10:28but is it the kind of house they're looking for?

1:10:28 > 1:10:31It's so weird. I can't get my head round it.

1:10:31 > 1:10:35Having a bedroom. As soon as you walk in, there's like, a bedroom.

1:10:35 > 1:10:38Wow! This is pretty impressive.

1:10:38 > 1:10:41- Nice big cooker for you, Robs. - Lovely big kitchen.

1:10:41 > 1:10:45- This is really big, isn't it? - This is really nice.

1:10:45 > 1:10:50First impressions are good but what about that all-important laundry room?

1:10:54 > 1:10:58Seriously, look at the size of this! It's massive.

1:11:00 > 1:11:02Jack hasn't spotted this one, has he?

1:11:03 > 1:11:08It's just weird, there's like loads of things that I can't get used to.

1:11:08 > 1:11:11Like having a bedroom as soon as you come in the front door.

1:11:11 > 1:11:13And fences outside.

1:11:13 > 1:11:15And, yeah, there's a couple of things that

1:11:15 > 1:11:18are a bit strange, aren't they? Very Australian.

1:11:22 > 1:11:23What's that?

1:11:25 > 1:11:27That's your dinosaurs!

1:11:27 > 1:11:29Yep, Gracie's sorted...

1:11:29 > 1:11:33The kids are getting into the swing of things

1:11:33 > 1:11:35but is there enough space to play outside?

1:11:37 > 1:11:41- They'd like that.- Yeah. It kind of is a bit too small, though.

1:11:41 > 1:11:45I know they have got toys but it's a grown-up's house, isn't it?

1:11:45 > 1:11:51Despite the luxurious finish, Robin has reservations about the garden.

1:11:51 > 1:11:55I wouldn't really call it a garden. More like a backyard to be honest.

1:11:55 > 1:11:57I'm being honest!

1:11:57 > 1:12:01I know. This is a wow factor house. You come in and you're like, whoa!

1:12:01 > 1:12:04But would we buy it? No, it wouldn't.

1:12:04 > 1:12:07It's got a four-person Jacuzzi in the garden!

1:12:07 > 1:12:10I'd rather have a bigger garden than a Jacuzzi.

1:12:10 > 1:12:12The front garden's quite big.

1:12:12 > 1:12:14But they can't play out the front.

1:12:14 > 1:12:16They'll get run over.

1:12:16 > 1:12:20- Put a fence up.- Lauren, you'll live where we tell you to live.

1:12:20 > 1:12:24The Saunders have only seen two properties and already, tempers are frayed.

1:12:24 > 1:12:26Hi, so what did you think, guys?

1:12:26 > 1:12:29- We love the house.- Lovely house.

1:12:29 > 1:12:32But we think the outside space is a bit small.

1:12:32 > 1:12:34Lets it down. Yeah.

1:12:34 > 1:12:37You will find with most of the properties in Springfield Lakes,

1:12:37 > 1:12:41you'll find smaller yards and then they built all the parkland

1:12:41 > 1:12:42and things for the families.

1:12:42 > 1:12:45You spend more time not staying in, really.

1:12:45 > 1:12:51You mowing the lawn and all that - you go where everyone else is,

1:12:51 > 1:12:56and they've got barbecue areas there, and it just saves you having to mow it.

1:12:56 > 1:12:59If we haven't got the big yard, as you called it,

1:12:59 > 1:13:00we'll have to take the kids down to the park

1:13:00 > 1:13:03and then maybe we'd meet people and make friends.

1:13:03 > 1:13:06I suppose we're not used to going to the park and socialising.

1:13:06 > 1:13:09We like to invite people round and socialise in our garden.

1:13:09 > 1:13:14You could make the house slightly smaller this way and not so long and maybe a bigger back garden.

1:13:14 > 1:13:16Then I'd be well happy.

1:13:16 > 1:13:19Robin's still hung up on the garden.

1:13:19 > 1:13:21If they're going to find a property that suits them all,

1:13:21 > 1:13:25perhaps the only thing to do is design one themselves.

1:13:25 > 1:13:29Springfield offers people the chance to buy a plot of land

1:13:29 > 1:13:34and design a house to go on it, so you can create something for yourself.

1:13:34 > 1:13:36We took the Saunders to an example of this.

1:13:36 > 1:13:41A four-bedroomed property in the newest area of Springfield Lakes.

1:13:43 > 1:13:45Wow. This is quite impressive, isn't it?

1:13:46 > 1:13:49I like this. This is fantastic.

1:13:49 > 1:13:52- Look how big this is.- I could chill out so much, I would be...

1:13:52 > 1:13:55This is as big as the second house

1:13:55 > 1:14:00but because it's laid out at a different angle, it seems bigger.

1:14:00 > 1:14:04Tina can't wait to check out the home's most important feature.

1:14:06 > 1:14:07Oh! Laundry room!

1:14:07 > 1:14:12- A laundry room with... - If you spilled water...

1:14:12 > 1:14:15- That's a bit posh for a laundry room.- It's got patio doors!

1:14:15 > 1:14:18- I've even got a washing line. - It's a bit posh for a laundry room.

1:14:18 > 1:14:21We could put the visitors in here.

1:14:21 > 1:14:23And on to the master bedroom.

1:14:23 > 1:14:26- This is nice, isn't it? - I like the windows.

1:14:26 > 1:14:28It's really weird because it's dark.

1:14:28 > 1:14:31You wouldn't choose this colour. But it looks quite nice.

1:14:31 > 1:14:33I like it. I really like it.

1:14:33 > 1:14:36Because we don't do dark colours. But it looks nice.

1:14:36 > 1:14:39Look at the size of the shower!

1:14:39 > 1:14:41We've got to have a go. Oh!

1:14:42 > 1:14:45That's too big. Who needs a shower that big?

1:14:46 > 1:14:50Well, you know. Save water. Everyone can shower together!

1:14:53 > 1:14:58At a price of £270,000, this property is over their budget,

1:14:58 > 1:15:01but the Saunders could always design something more affordable.

1:15:03 > 1:15:08You get to change everything. You can have less living space, more garden.

1:15:08 > 1:15:12This is a big size of a plot. Or you can shrink it.

1:15:12 > 1:15:16And obviously that changes the price.

1:15:16 > 1:15:18So it can be cheaper, if you have less build.

1:15:18 > 1:15:22With a bit bigger land and a bit bigger garden, this would suit me down to the ground.

1:15:22 > 1:15:26Robin's impressed with the property but is it enough to sway him?

1:15:26 > 1:15:30He can see the benefits now and the fact that there's no DIY to do

1:15:30 > 1:15:33is my key selling point to him, I think.

1:15:33 > 1:15:37Will he vote for coming to Australia?

1:15:37 > 1:15:39I'm still not convinced.

1:15:39 > 1:15:41Lauren is coming.

1:15:41 > 1:15:46- Lauren's coming, whether we're all coming or not, aren't you, Lauren? - I'm staying.

1:15:46 > 1:15:50Robin and Tina have seen three very different properties.

1:15:50 > 1:15:55On the whole, they have been impressed with what they might be able to afford.

1:15:55 > 1:15:59Robin's never looked at moving beyond south London before

1:15:59 > 1:16:04and his eyes have been opened by the opportunities in Australia.

1:16:04 > 1:16:08Good day. Changed my mind a bit. Seen a few things that have changed my mind.

1:16:08 > 1:16:10The third option was definitely the best.

1:16:10 > 1:16:13I'd never thought about that, new-build, so that's thrown me.

1:16:13 > 1:16:19But Tina's expectations are high and even though she loves the houses,

1:16:19 > 1:16:21she's torn about the area itself.

1:16:21 > 1:16:25I feel a bit like in a Disney studio

1:16:25 > 1:16:27kind of thing going on.

1:16:27 > 1:16:30It's all laid out a bit nice and you can imagine them doing

1:16:30 > 1:16:33Desperate Housewives or something in this road.

1:16:33 > 1:16:35It's all a bit too nice, really.

1:16:35 > 1:16:39And it's almost a bit fake, it's bizarre.

1:16:39 > 1:16:41I can't quite get my head around it.

1:16:41 > 1:16:45So, will they agree when it comes to the vote?

1:16:45 > 1:16:48Now's the time to vote on the housing.

1:16:48 > 1:16:51Are we going home or are we going to Australia?

1:16:51 > 1:16:53Ready, steady, go.

1:16:53 > 1:16:55- Australia!- Australia!

1:17:02 > 1:17:04Well, the property was a hit.

1:17:04 > 1:17:08But it's Robin's job that's key to making this move happen.

1:17:08 > 1:17:14If he doesn't like what's on offer in Australia, then the Saunders family are staying at home.

1:17:14 > 1:17:20Back in the UK, Robin earns £25,000 a year as an orthopaedic shoemaker.

1:17:20 > 1:17:23But he's only ever had one job.

1:17:23 > 1:17:29In Australia, we've set up a trial day with a family-run orthopaedics company. The boss is Brad George.

1:17:29 > 1:17:32We've got a very happy team.

1:17:32 > 1:17:34We enjoy each other's company.

1:17:34 > 1:17:37Robin, if you make it, give us a call, and we'll catch up.

1:17:41 > 1:17:48Robin's on his way to meet Brad but with his highly specific skills, he has no idea what to expect.

1:17:48 > 1:17:50It's a bit of an unknown for me.

1:17:50 > 1:17:53I'm nervous for two reasons.

1:17:53 > 1:17:55I don't want to get there - because I know that I can do my job -

1:17:55 > 1:17:57I don't want to get there and look a complete fool

1:17:57 > 1:17:59because I don't know what I'm doing.

1:17:59 > 1:18:03On the other hand, I don't want to get there and think, "This is too easy for me,"

1:18:03 > 1:18:06and then feel a bit big-headed. I'm really nervous. Really worried.

1:18:06 > 1:18:10Tina's aware how much this means to the whole family.

1:18:10 > 1:18:12It is make-or-break for him, really.

1:18:12 > 1:18:17If the job is not good and he doesn't like the people and he's got a bad vibe, that would be it.

1:18:17 > 1:18:21If the work doesn't go good today then we can't come anyway.

1:18:21 > 1:18:25I've been in my job now 25 years last week.

1:18:25 > 1:18:28I like it. I like the people there more than the job.

1:18:28 > 1:18:30I socialise with a lot of people.

1:18:30 > 1:18:34It's only a small firm. Because I'm such a long way away from home

1:18:34 > 1:18:37it would make a big difference if I don't get on with anybody.

1:18:43 > 1:18:46This Australian company specialises in medical braces and footwear.

1:18:46 > 1:18:53Robin would be on a salary of around £25,000, similar to what he gets back home,

1:18:53 > 1:18:58but this is the only company of its kind in the whole of southern Queensland.

1:18:58 > 1:19:01If Robin does not fit in here, there really is nowhere else.

1:19:01 > 1:19:05Robin, welcome to Australia, and GB Orthopaedics, I'll show you through.

1:19:05 > 1:19:06Thank you very much.

1:19:06 > 1:19:08Brad is keen to assess Robin's skills.

1:19:08 > 1:19:11Today, we'd like to take you through our facility

1:19:11 > 1:19:13and see if you can do some of the stuff that we do here.

1:19:13 > 1:19:14I see you've come prepared.

1:19:14 > 1:19:17I wasn't sure what to bring so I brought a couple of knives

1:19:17 > 1:19:20because you get used to your own things...

1:19:20 > 1:19:22- Absolutely. Let's get stuck in. - OK then.

1:19:23 > 1:19:26- This is Andrew.- How are you, mate?

1:19:26 > 1:19:29Robin. I will leave you in Andrew's capable hands.

1:19:29 > 1:19:31- Thanks very much.- OK. Pleasure.

1:19:31 > 1:19:33Are you OK with lasting the shoe?

1:19:33 > 1:19:37- Yes, yes. - There we are. The bench is yours.

1:19:37 > 1:19:39Robin's going to have a go at lasting a shoe -

1:19:39 > 1:19:42that's moulding the leather upper onto the insole,

1:19:42 > 1:19:46but will his skills be up to Aussie standards?

1:19:46 > 1:19:47- I'll leave you to it.- OK.

1:19:47 > 1:19:49I'll be back.

1:19:49 > 1:19:54Already, he's noticing the small differences with work back home.

1:19:54 > 1:19:56They tend to do it up on the bench there,

1:19:56 > 1:20:00which is something I've not done before.

1:20:00 > 1:20:04I've seen it done before but the person that showed me

1:20:04 > 1:20:06was like a really old shoemaker.

1:20:06 > 1:20:10We tend to do it in our hands, sitting at a bench, which is a lot lower than here.

1:20:10 > 1:20:14It's the same principle but slightly different technique.

1:20:14 > 1:20:18As Robin attempts to impress the boss with his up-to-the-minute techniques,

1:20:18 > 1:20:25Tina's trying to forget her concerns by taking the children out in Brisbane's New Farm area.

1:20:25 > 1:20:31Lauren's buying a present for her nan, who will think of anything to keep them in the UK.

1:20:31 > 1:20:36She's like, "You shouldn't go to Australia. You shouldn't go and stay because it's so dangerous."

1:20:36 > 1:20:39My mum's still not very keen on us coming.

1:20:39 > 1:20:41I think she's trying to... That was the other one.

1:20:41 > 1:20:46Box jellyfish. Don't go in the sea because the box jellyfish will sting you.

1:20:48 > 1:20:49Like Dame Edna Everage.

1:20:54 > 1:20:59Tina's increasingly concerned that Robin will find it hard to commit to a move.

1:20:59 > 1:21:05He just doesn't do change, you know, he just doesn't do it, so I don't know how he's going to get on.

1:21:05 > 1:21:11I'm really... This is our stressful moment because I don't think he's going to like it.

1:21:11 > 1:21:16Whatever the job is, whatever they're like, whatever the pay is,

1:21:16 > 1:21:19he's still going to say, I don't like it, it's not for me.

1:21:21 > 1:21:26But before he can decide, Robin's first got to impress his boss.

1:21:26 > 1:21:27How you going with it, Rob?

1:21:27 > 1:21:32Hopefully OK. I've just done it the way I'd do it, we do at home.

1:21:32 > 1:21:34You'll probably undo it all and do it again,

1:21:34 > 1:21:38but that's how we would do it at home, but it's obviously

1:21:38 > 1:21:40slightly different from what you're used to, so...

1:21:40 > 1:21:42That's pretty good, eh?

1:21:42 > 1:21:44- Beautiful. - Slightly different, but...

1:21:44 > 1:21:47Looking good. Very nice job. Done very well.

1:21:47 > 1:21:51He seems to have passed the test but will he fit into the team?

1:21:52 > 1:21:56This is our plaster room. I'll just leave you with Gary.

1:21:56 > 1:21:59- I'm sure you'll pick up some good traits.- OK, thank you. - I'll come back.

1:21:59 > 1:22:02Hi, Gary. Robin. Nice to meet you.

1:22:02 > 1:22:07Robin suffers from a fear of spiders and the team here just might have got wind of it.

1:22:07 > 1:22:12If you wouldn't mind just going over there, getting enough plaster in the bin.

1:22:12 > 1:22:14OK, then.

1:22:14 > 1:22:16This much?

1:22:16 > 1:22:19A bit more. A bit more.

1:22:19 > 1:22:21Watch out for that thing there.

1:22:21 > 1:22:23Yeah, you're funny(!)

1:22:26 > 1:22:28Yeah, you BLEEP.

1:22:28 > 1:22:35- I wasn't going to say anything! - We just had a little joke there with Robin that's backfired on us.

1:22:35 > 1:22:38OK, that's fine, I just thought, I won't say nothing.

1:22:38 > 1:22:40It's called initiation...

1:22:40 > 1:22:43- That's all right. - ..in the Australia way of life!

1:22:44 > 1:22:47- Sorry about that, Rob. - It's all right.

1:22:47 > 1:22:50Thank you. Yes, lovely. I don't want to hold that one too long.

1:22:50 > 1:22:55Yeah, they're worse in my workplace because they'd put a real one on my bench.

1:22:55 > 1:22:58Robin seems to be settling in just fine.

1:22:58 > 1:23:02- So, what's it like, to work here? - We all go on camping trips together,

1:23:02 > 1:23:04do different things together.

1:23:04 > 1:23:07- OK. There's plenty of banter going round.- Oh, yeah, yeah.

1:23:07 > 1:23:13After the stress of worrying about the job, it seems the day couldn't have gone better.

1:23:13 > 1:23:15I think you did exceptionally well here today.

1:23:15 > 1:23:18Learned some new things as well.

1:23:18 > 1:23:20There's a possibility of a job if you get your visa and come back.

1:23:20 > 1:23:22- Definitely look me up.- OK, will do.

1:23:22 > 1:23:26Thank you. All the best. Thank you very much. Cheers. Thank you.

1:23:26 > 1:23:29But it all means Robin has a lot to think about.

1:23:29 > 1:23:31It's not a decision to make lightly.

1:23:31 > 1:23:34I really need to talk to Tina and tell her how I feel and how I got on today.

1:23:34 > 1:23:39It's not easy. It's a big, major thing to leave, you know, a permanent job that's

1:23:39 > 1:23:42secure, basically, because I've been there for so long.

1:23:42 > 1:23:44He won't come back and say he likes it.

1:23:44 > 1:23:47He might say there's like a little bit that he likes but he won't say,

1:23:47 > 1:23:52"I like that job, I'm going to work there, that's it, we are coming to Australia." It won't happen.

1:23:52 > 1:23:54I'm convinced it won't happen.

1:23:54 > 1:23:57Do you want to do this now?

1:23:57 > 1:24:00No... I can't.

1:24:05 > 1:24:07I want to talk to Tina first.

1:24:12 > 1:24:17Robin's job is really important to him because it's not just work.

1:24:17 > 1:24:20It's his friends, his life.

1:24:20 > 1:24:22You can't imagine him going anywhere else.

1:24:22 > 1:24:27The job situation for him would be make-or-break,

1:24:27 > 1:24:30and I just don't think that he's able to change.

1:24:31 > 1:24:33I can't do this.

1:24:41 > 1:24:45I was very emotional...because it could potentially lead to us

1:24:45 > 1:24:49coming here, leaving everybody, leaving everything.

1:24:49 > 1:24:53I didn't think I'd be like this but I am now.

1:24:53 > 1:24:57Robin knows his decision may change his family's destiny

1:24:57 > 1:24:59but he's ready to vote.

1:24:59 > 1:25:02It's been a very emotional day today. Very nervous this morning.

1:25:02 > 1:25:05Had a great time this afternoon with everybody.

1:25:05 > 1:25:08It's bigger than I thought this would be. This is quite a hard decision

1:25:08 > 1:25:12but I think I need to make the right decision for me and my family,

1:25:12 > 1:25:13so I'm going to vote Australia.

1:25:16 > 1:25:18- Daddy's home!- Hiya, Jack!

1:25:21 > 1:25:23Daddy!

1:25:23 > 1:25:27So how is Tina going to react to Robin's monumental decision?

1:25:27 > 1:25:30- It was all right.- It was all right?

1:25:30 > 1:25:33No, it was good. I was really nervous but it was good.

1:25:33 > 1:25:37They go camping together. It's really sociable.

1:25:37 > 1:25:41Not only do they socialise but they do things we do - go camping.

1:25:41 > 1:25:43That's quite shocking.

1:25:43 > 1:25:47Most of the people that work there, families as well - they take family and children.

1:25:47 > 1:25:50- Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! - I voted Australia.

1:25:50 > 1:25:53Did you?! No!

1:25:54 > 1:25:58I did! Cos it's so much like our firm.

1:25:58 > 1:25:59It's gone well for him.

1:25:59 > 1:26:04I take it all back because I said I didn't think he'd vote for Australia.

1:26:06 > 1:26:10I think he'll probably vote to stay in Australia now, even though

1:26:10 > 1:26:14two years ago, he wouldn't even discuss the subject.

1:26:21 > 1:26:27Transfixed by a dream life down under, Tina Saunders was always desperate to emigrate.

1:26:27 > 1:26:31But she feared husband Robin would thwart her plans.

1:26:31 > 1:26:34I like routine. Tina doesn't like routine. She likes a change.

1:26:34 > 1:26:37I don't know how he's going to manage.

1:26:37 > 1:26:41But to everyone's shock, he enjoyed his work day and voted...

1:26:41 > 1:26:43Australia.

1:26:43 > 1:26:46But, when Tina faces up to harsh financial realities...

1:26:46 > 1:26:50and hears heart-breaking messages from her mum...

1:26:50 > 1:26:54I'm abandoning my only living parent. That's a tough decision.

1:26:54 > 1:26:57Will she be the one to crumble under the pressure?

1:26:57 > 1:27:00For me, the person who wanted to come here is now thinking maybe not.

1:27:00 > 1:27:04It wasn't down to me, it was down to Tina, but now I think she's feeling guilty that I've got here

1:27:04 > 1:27:06and I quite like it, and she's having second thoughts.

1:27:06 > 1:27:10Once you're here and the bullet's between the teeth, it's really difficult.

1:27:10 > 1:27:12It's really tough actually.

1:27:16 > 1:27:21Robin may have been won over by the job but whether they can afford their dream home

1:27:21 > 1:27:25will depend on the price they can get for their house in the UK.

1:27:25 > 1:27:29Robin and Tina's home is a three-bedroom terrace

1:27:29 > 1:27:33which they bought in 2002 for £137,000.

1:27:33 > 1:27:35They think it's worth a lot more now, so we sent in

1:27:35 > 1:27:41two estate agents to give them an up-to-date valuation.

1:27:41 > 1:27:43Oh, dear. There's our house.

1:27:48 > 1:27:51Double-glazed windows.

1:27:51 > 1:27:53Had a few kids.

1:27:53 > 1:27:56Needs tidying up a little bit.

1:27:56 > 1:27:58Good-sized garden.

1:27:58 > 1:28:02Decking, lawn, flowerbeds, fencing to the side and rear. Great.

1:28:02 > 1:28:05Again needs general tidying up.

1:28:05 > 1:28:08There's too much stuff to tidy up!

1:28:10 > 1:28:13OK, kitchen units, narrow galley.

1:28:13 > 1:28:17Sometimes they come up a bit small to people's liking.

1:28:17 > 1:28:20Bog-standard for this type of house.

1:28:26 > 1:28:30Front bedroom - if this turns out to be the largest, which it is -

1:28:30 > 1:28:33the kids' bedroom. Nice fireplace.

1:28:33 > 1:28:35Shame they've painted it, but...

1:28:37 > 1:28:40It's to blend in with the sand.

1:28:40 > 1:28:45You're going to get first-time buyers and people looking for a family home.

1:28:45 > 1:28:47For a quick sale, if you were to put it on at 195,

1:28:47 > 1:28:49you could quite easily achieve 190.

1:28:49 > 1:28:51That's quite good. Quick sale, 195.

1:28:51 > 1:28:54- Yeah.- More than we paid for it.

1:28:54 > 1:28:59They look a little disappointed but there may be worse to come.

1:28:59 > 1:29:02If a really quick sale was required,

1:29:02 > 1:29:05then I'd put the property on at around 180.

1:29:05 > 1:29:09Then people tend to know exactly what your bottom line is.

1:29:09 > 1:29:11That's a lot less than they'd hoped.

1:29:11 > 1:29:14She doesn't know what she's talking about.

1:29:14 > 1:29:16Bit bizarre, that one.

1:29:16 > 1:29:19Robin and Tina just don't want to face up to how much their house

1:29:19 > 1:29:22may have depreciated but, with Australian house prices

1:29:22 > 1:29:28relatively buoyant, it's certainly made them contemplate the reality of moving.

1:29:28 > 1:29:31You don't come to Australia, sell your house, get a house over here for £100,000.

1:29:31 > 1:29:36It's not going to happen. If that's what people are thinking, the bubble's burst on that one.

1:29:36 > 1:29:39But seeing what they could aspire to down under

1:29:39 > 1:29:41has really whet their appetite.

1:29:41 > 1:29:49Looking at the houses we've seen, and looking at that, it just puts it so much into perspective.

1:29:49 > 1:29:53We're looking at it now and it's just pretty awful really.

1:29:53 > 1:29:56Do we have to go home to it? Can we stay here?

1:29:56 > 1:29:58Don't want to go back to that!

1:29:58 > 1:30:02If they really want to stay in Australia, the Saunders family will

1:30:02 > 1:30:08need to take a closer look at their finances to see if they can afford to make the move at all.

1:30:08 > 1:30:12Let's have a look in here, then.

1:30:12 > 1:30:16We've prepared a breakdown of their potential Australian expenses

1:30:16 > 1:30:19to help them work out if they can afford to live there.

1:30:19 > 1:30:21I'll get the calculator.

1:30:23 > 1:30:28The one cost we haven't got in England is air conditioning.

1:30:28 > 1:30:30If you have a big house and it's £400 a month

1:30:30 > 1:30:32for air conditioning, that's loads of money.

1:30:32 > 1:30:34That's like our food bill, pretty much.

1:30:36 > 1:30:40The price of keeping cool is just one thing they didn't expect.

1:30:40 > 1:30:44Even the weekly grocery shop has some surprises.

1:30:44 > 1:30:49Let's have a look at this. Radish is like three times the amount. Oh, gosh.

1:30:49 > 1:30:51I'll have to give up my salmon.

1:30:51 > 1:30:56Double. 75% more or something.

1:30:59 > 1:31:03So, fruit and veg, meat, fish - these are all more expensive.

1:31:03 > 1:31:06Groceries, 104 a month.

1:31:06 > 1:31:13Hang on. That's another £1,248 a year, just on food!

1:31:13 > 1:31:18The idea of Tina living without some of her luxuries is giving her second thoughts.

1:31:18 > 1:31:20I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed.

1:31:20 > 1:31:24It was all going really well until we started looking at this.

1:31:24 > 1:31:28Looking at this list, Grace can't have any more nappies.

1:31:28 > 1:31:30And you can't do no washing!

1:31:30 > 1:31:33- It's going well so far! - No nappies and no washing.

1:31:33 > 1:31:39New life in Australia - poor child will be wetting herself but I can't wash her clothes. You're so funny!

1:31:39 > 1:31:44It's good to sit down and do it, otherwise you just come out here and think, "It'll be fine.

1:31:44 > 1:31:48"Everything will be the same," and it's not. Wow!

1:31:48 > 1:31:50In the final reckoning,

1:31:50 > 1:31:53will a move down under make them better or worse off?

1:31:53 > 1:31:59Basically we'd be £5,330 worse off in Australia

1:31:59 > 1:32:03than we currently are in the UK.

1:32:03 > 1:32:10In the UK, we have £5,998 spare every year after everything.

1:32:10 > 1:32:12Over here, we'd be in the red £332.

1:32:12 > 1:32:15And it all has some worrying consequences.

1:32:15 > 1:32:19That would mean no studying for me.

1:32:21 > 1:32:27I'd need to work basically full-time or more hours to make up that difference.

1:32:27 > 1:32:30- That would be the give. - That's quite a big, major thing.

1:32:30 > 1:32:38For me, it is, because... I couldn't study here, really.

1:32:38 > 1:32:40I couldn't do my degree.

1:32:43 > 1:32:48The Saunders' finances could really jeopardise their move down under,

1:32:48 > 1:32:51but they're not giving up that easily.

1:32:51 > 1:32:54They came to Australia for the outdoor lifestyle

1:32:54 > 1:32:57and they're not leaving until they've tried it.

1:32:57 > 1:33:00Back home, Robin and Tina love being active

1:33:00 > 1:33:04but the great British weather makes getting outside a rare luxury.

1:33:04 > 1:33:06We do a lot of outdoor stuff.

1:33:06 > 1:33:10We go camping and cycling but last year, we could hardly

1:33:10 > 1:33:13go away because the weather was just too bad.

1:33:13 > 1:33:15We like to go outside and do stuff.

1:33:15 > 1:33:18We think if we went to somewhere like that where we could go outside

1:33:18 > 1:33:21it wouldn't be so stressful being indoors all the time.

1:33:21 > 1:33:25It's not good for them to be cooped up indoors all day long.

1:33:25 > 1:33:31So now they're down under, we're taking them to get a taste of the real Australian bush.

1:33:31 > 1:33:36They're going camping in Lamington National Park, an hour and-a-half south of Brisbane.

1:33:36 > 1:33:40National parkland is one of Australia's best-kept secrets.

1:33:40 > 1:33:45A whopping 21% of Australia's total land area is forest, home to

1:33:45 > 1:33:49more than 2,800 native species,

1:33:49 > 1:33:53so places to see the country's flora and fauna aren't hard to find.

1:33:53 > 1:33:56There are over 2,000 national parks in Australia

1:33:56 > 1:33:57and many of them are in Queensland.

1:33:57 > 1:34:01Lamington National Park is the largest area of sub-tropical

1:34:01 > 1:34:04rainforest left in Australia, so it's a very special place.

1:34:04 > 1:34:08It's got fantastic scenery and on a winter's day like this,

1:34:08 > 1:34:11it couldn't be better. It's just absolutely perfect.

1:34:11 > 1:34:15What sort of things might you expect to see and do when you're out in the bush?

1:34:15 > 1:34:17There are 160 kilometres of walking tracks out here.

1:34:17 > 1:34:20You can go to all the main features.

1:34:20 > 1:34:25There are waterfalls, cliffs, fantastic views and, of course, magnificent forest.

1:34:25 > 1:34:30If you're thinking of an overnight stay in a national park, it's wise to plan ahead.

1:34:30 > 1:34:35Some camping spots need to be booked as much as a year in advance. But it does have its benefits.

1:34:35 > 1:34:41Once you're there, there aren't a lot of people, because the booking system is to restrict the numbers.

1:34:41 > 1:34:45They're wonderful places to go and you're not overcrowded,

1:34:45 > 1:34:50and you can just get out and enjoy the serenity and peace and the beauty of the park.

1:34:53 > 1:34:56This kind of outdoor adventure could be right up the Saunders' street.

1:34:56 > 1:34:58So, what do they think?

1:34:58 > 1:35:00Here, it's a whole adventure.

1:35:00 > 1:35:02There's trails and wildlife to see.

1:35:02 > 1:35:06It's wild, it's the middle of nowhere. There's hardly anyone here.

1:35:06 > 1:35:07It's way better.

1:35:09 > 1:35:11I love it.

1:35:13 > 1:35:20It's getting late. So, Rachel Allen from Binna Burra Lodge shows them to their luxurious accommodation.

1:35:20 > 1:35:24Follow me and I'll show you down to your tents.

1:35:24 > 1:35:26- Have you been here before?- No.

1:35:27 > 1:35:30This is your safari tent.

1:35:30 > 1:35:32There are beds in here for everybody.

1:35:32 > 1:35:35You can choose one of your own bunk beds.

1:35:35 > 1:35:40You've got all of your bedding there, duvets and sheets and blankets. You should be warm enough.

1:35:40 > 1:35:43It's winter, so there won't be any snakes or anything.

1:35:43 > 1:35:47They're all hibernating. You don't have to be scared of anything.

1:35:47 > 1:35:50- See ya!- Bye-bye.

1:35:51 > 1:35:54It's like a tent, it's got wooden poles.

1:35:54 > 1:35:57Ours has got fibreglass or aluminium poles.

1:35:57 > 1:36:03As the sun goes down, the Saunders attempt to settle in to their new home.

1:36:03 > 1:36:06But, it's a lot less luxurious than they're used to.

1:36:06 > 1:36:08When it's dark here, it's dark.

1:36:08 > 1:36:15There's no lighting anywhere. It's really out in the outback, if you like.

1:36:15 > 1:36:16It's in the middle of nowhere.

1:36:16 > 1:36:19Freezing!

1:36:19 > 1:36:22- You a bit chilly?- No, I'm freezing!

1:36:23 > 1:36:29It's definitely a little bit chilly this evening. I have a few reservations about sleeping here...

1:36:29 > 1:36:31in the cold.

1:36:31 > 1:36:34CRYING

1:36:35 > 1:36:40Their Australian outback dream is starting to turn into a nightmare.

1:36:51 > 1:36:55Tina decides enough is enough, and the family retreat from under canvas.

1:36:55 > 1:37:01They relocate to a carpeted lodge with heating.

1:37:01 > 1:37:04I'm just feeling a bit stressed at the moment, because I got

1:37:04 > 1:37:10really cold and we had to kind of abandon the camping element.

1:37:10 > 1:37:13Which, we do back home and really look forward to,

1:37:13 > 1:37:15and I'm really disappointed.

1:37:15 > 1:37:18We've got a nice room and it's lovely, but...

1:37:18 > 1:37:23It's not actually what I wanted to do today, to try out what life would be like in Australia.

1:37:23 > 1:37:25Tina is in a reflective mood.

1:37:25 > 1:37:31She's started to think that the move down under won't get her everything she wants.

1:37:31 > 1:37:37If we come here now, I pretty much don't get to do my degree, finish my degree. So...

1:37:39 > 1:37:43Basically, I think, I don't want to come right now.

1:37:43 > 1:37:45That's how it's panning out for me.

1:37:45 > 1:37:52For me, the person who wanted to come here is now thinking maybe not at the moment, because of myself.

1:37:52 > 1:37:56Which is a bit of a...

1:37:56 > 1:38:01You know, if everyone wants to come and it's only me...

1:38:02 > 1:38:05That's it. I don't know.

1:38:05 > 1:38:11The Saunders are still getting to grips with the rigours of camping Aussie style.

1:38:11 > 1:38:17If they want to emigrate, they'll need a close circle of friends to give them encouragement and advice.

1:38:21 > 1:38:26We have arranged for them to meet hardened ramblers and campers, Pete and Deborah Easton.

1:38:26 > 1:38:30Lauren is quick to make friends with their son Matthew and his friend

1:38:30 > 1:38:34Jared, as they gear up to try the ultimate Aussie adrenalin rush - the Flying Fox.

1:38:34 > 1:38:37- Are you ready for this?- Yeah.

1:38:37 > 1:38:39I'm going to start organising people.

1:38:40 > 1:38:44It looks fun. It's like something out of Jurassic Park a bit.

1:38:45 > 1:38:48ALL: Three, two, one...go!

1:38:53 > 1:38:57I love it when they disappear into the trees, never to be seen again.

1:38:57 > 1:39:01Lauren is having a whale of a time, and it gives Robin and Tina

1:39:01 > 1:39:05a chance to quiz Pete and Deborah about camping in Australia.

1:39:05 > 1:39:09The thing about Australia is that you've such a diversity of places to go camping.

1:39:09 > 1:39:14We're going to Carnarvon next holidays, which is like an oasis in the middle of the desert.

1:39:14 > 1:39:16- How long does that take?- 12 hours.

1:39:16 > 1:39:2012 hours! In a car, to go camping.

1:39:20 > 1:39:22That's a bit far for us.

1:39:22 > 1:39:24Five is bad enough.

1:39:24 > 1:39:28You can drive one side of Europe to the other in 12 hours, you guys.

1:39:28 > 1:39:3012 hours is just...

1:39:33 > 1:39:37The size of the outback is still a culture shock for Robin and Tina.

1:39:37 > 1:39:43At last, they get a chance to enjoy a few beers round a camp fire with their new friends.

1:39:43 > 1:39:47- I brought you a beer. - Thank you very much.- No worries.

1:39:47 > 1:39:49It's an old Australian custom!

1:39:49 > 1:39:51I like it already.

1:39:51 > 1:39:54Robin seems to be getting into things at last.

1:39:54 > 1:39:57This is great. This is lovely to sit outside.

1:39:57 > 1:39:59- Couldn't get this in England.- No.

1:39:59 > 1:40:02Most UK camp sites, you're not allowed to have fires

1:40:02 > 1:40:05because it's too confined. You'd set the whole tent on fire.

1:40:05 > 1:40:08This is a complete change for us.

1:40:08 > 1:40:12The British like a little bit of uniformity.

1:40:12 > 1:40:16Here it's more random and seems a bit more back to nature.

1:40:16 > 1:40:23After worrying about leaving his friends from home, Robin's eyes are being opened to new possibilities.

1:40:23 > 1:40:26It's great to meet someone on one day I get on so well with.

1:40:26 > 1:40:31You were really friendly. You don't really get that in England. You get a lot of grumpy people in England.

1:40:31 > 1:40:34Yeah, fitting in would probably be easier than I'd anticipated.

1:40:34 > 1:40:39The pull of home is ever present. So, how will they vote?

1:40:39 > 1:40:43It's a bit of a toughie, really, because you can't just up and leave everybody.

1:40:43 > 1:40:50Clearly, that's what we'd have to do, so it's going to be down to the wire I think for me on this one.

1:40:50 > 1:40:52This is quite a hard vote, this one.

1:40:52 > 1:40:56This basically means that we stay at home with our old friends,

1:40:56 > 1:40:59or do we take the chance to come here and make new friends?

1:40:59 > 1:41:01So, are we ready, family?

1:41:01 > 1:41:03OK, ready, steady, vote!

1:41:03 > 1:41:05- UK.- Australia!- UK.

1:41:05 > 1:41:08Why Australia?

1:41:08 > 1:41:11- Because I don't mind dumping my old friends and making new friends. - That's nice(!)

1:41:11 > 1:41:14- So, you're not bothered at all? - No, not bothered.

1:41:14 > 1:41:16It's Australia all the way.

1:41:21 > 1:41:26Tina and Robin are still undecided about their move down under.

1:41:26 > 1:41:30Will hearing messages from friends and family help them reach that final decision?

1:41:30 > 1:41:32Or will it make things tougher?

1:41:35 > 1:41:38Hi, Robin and Tina, Lauren and the little ones.

1:41:38 > 1:41:40Hi, Rob and Tina, kids, hope you're well.

1:41:40 > 1:41:42Hope you're having a really good time and really enjoying it,

1:41:42 > 1:41:44and you're down on the beach having good fun.

1:41:44 > 1:41:47Tina's hard-working.

1:41:48 > 1:41:52She likes to go to work, I think.

1:41:52 > 1:41:58Everybody has got to work too hard to gain anything.

1:41:58 > 1:42:01Robert is definitely a family man, definitely.

1:42:01 > 1:42:04He'd do it for the kids, really.

1:42:04 > 1:42:09..He just loves his children. Loves Tina, Lauren.

1:42:09 > 1:42:14Yes, he's got a nice way of being a dad.

1:42:14 > 1:42:18He's settled down, he's taken Lauren under his wing.

1:42:18 > 1:42:20He's two young children.

1:42:20 > 1:42:23I think, really, it's a great opportunity.

1:42:23 > 1:42:26I just hope there aren't too many big spiders there.

1:42:26 > 1:42:28LAUGHTER

1:42:28 > 1:42:35Lauren and I are particularly close as grandparent and granddaughter.

1:42:35 > 1:42:37More so than probably normally would be.

1:42:37 > 1:42:42She lived here for over five years. And...

1:42:42 > 1:42:45it was one big happy family!

1:42:45 > 1:42:47If you could call it that!

1:42:47 > 1:42:51Jack's scatty and looking for granddad all the time.

1:42:51 > 1:42:55He's always on the phone to me.

1:42:55 > 1:42:57"Come to my house, Granddad."

1:42:57 > 1:43:00Or, "Can I come to your house?"

1:43:00 > 1:43:02It's always Jack and Granddad.

1:43:02 > 1:43:05Obviously, if they go, I'll miss them like hell.

1:43:05 > 1:43:07I can't just pop round when I need to.

1:43:07 > 1:43:10It's a long way to go.

1:43:12 > 1:43:14We won't stand in their way, if they want to do it.

1:43:14 > 1:43:16We'll miss them, there's no doubt about it.

1:43:19 > 1:43:24Perhaps not going to their first day at school and picking them up.

1:43:24 > 1:43:27That will be hard.

1:43:29 > 1:43:34- You'd just have to save your pennies and go over.- Yes.

1:43:34 > 1:43:35That will be hard, but...

1:43:37 > 1:43:41No...they still need to do what they need to do.

1:43:47 > 1:43:49I'm going to miss them.

1:43:52 > 1:43:57You can't let that influence their decision, can you?

1:43:57 > 1:44:01You've got to do what you've got to do.

1:44:15 > 1:44:17I'd miss them, obviously. But they could always come visit.

1:44:17 > 1:44:21- They're only a plane flight away. - Your nan says she'd never get an aeroplane

1:44:21 > 1:44:22to go to Spain for two hours.

1:44:22 > 1:44:26Even though she missed you, or Jack and Grace and Tina,

1:44:26 > 1:44:27as much as she's going to,

1:44:27 > 1:44:31she'd never jump on an airplane. You have to accept that.

1:44:31 > 1:44:35- She'd never get on an aeroplane. - She loves having the kids round.

1:44:35 > 1:44:38I pop in a lot and I take it to whatever, places.

1:44:38 > 1:44:43So...I'm abandoning my only living parent.

1:44:43 > 1:44:45That's a tough decision.

1:44:45 > 1:44:49I think my mum is thinking, "I've got to say this but I don't mean it."

1:44:49 > 1:44:54I don't know if that's true or not, but that's the impression I got - that she wanted us to try.

1:44:54 > 1:44:55Deep down, she doesn't.

1:44:55 > 1:44:58It doesn't matter what they've said, really.

1:44:58 > 1:45:02They're mouthing the right stuff, like, "You should go if you want."

1:45:02 > 1:45:05Clearly, you can see that's not probably what they're thinking.

1:45:05 > 1:45:13In a way, it's a message - verbally, one thing, but actually seeing them, you're getting a whole different

1:45:13 > 1:45:16set of signs.

1:45:20 > 1:45:22I'm the person who said, "Come out."

1:45:22 > 1:45:25It was all me. Rob wasn't interested.

1:45:25 > 1:45:32And, for lots of reasons, I'm weighing it up...trying to weigh it up more methodically.

1:45:32 > 1:45:34I have a lot of reasons that I'm doubtful.

1:45:34 > 1:45:39Everyone knows that it wasn't to do with me - I didn't want to come in the first place.

1:45:39 > 1:45:42I've come now, I've changed my mind a bit. I've changed my mind a lot.

1:45:42 > 1:45:44You wanted to come, I didn't.

1:45:44 > 1:45:48Now, it's kind of changed, you're not so sure. I'm a bit more.

1:45:48 > 1:45:51If one of us picks England, we can't go.

1:45:51 > 1:45:54And then I'm going to feel angry with the person who picks England.

1:45:54 > 1:45:57I keep changing backwards and forwards. I didn't want to come.

1:45:57 > 1:45:59Now I have come, I think it's great.

1:45:59 > 1:46:04We could make a life for ourselves here, I think, if we really tried hard enough.

1:46:04 > 1:46:06Yeah.

1:46:06 > 1:46:08I was the one that wasn't interested in coming.

1:46:08 > 1:46:13I think now I've got here, I don't know. That's really upsetting.

1:46:16 > 1:46:20Seeing their loved ones back home has forced the Saunders

1:46:20 > 1:46:23to rethink their position yet again.

1:46:23 > 1:46:29Their week in Australia really has been full of ups and downs.

1:46:29 > 1:46:33Tina Saunders was always desperate to emigrate to Australia.

1:46:33 > 1:46:36I'd always had it in the back of my mind, I'd possibly want to go away.

1:46:36 > 1:46:39She imagined a brand new start in a fantasy setting,

1:46:39 > 1:46:42with the ultimate washing facilities.

1:46:42 > 1:46:46But husband Robin wasn't convinced.

1:46:46 > 1:46:49I like routine. Tina doesn't like routine. She likes to change.

1:46:49 > 1:46:52I can't foresee him adapting...

1:46:52 > 1:46:56Robin was inspired by the lavish Australian properties.

1:46:56 > 1:46:58I like this. This is fantastic.

1:46:58 > 1:47:03After an emotional day at work, he shocked everyone by voting for...

1:47:03 > 1:47:05Australia.

1:47:05 > 1:47:10But, revelations about the high cost of living had drastic consequences for Tina.

1:47:10 > 1:47:12We're £332 in the red.

1:47:12 > 1:47:15I'd need to work basically full-time.

1:47:15 > 1:47:17I couldn't do my degree.

1:47:17 > 1:47:23And with her dreams turning sour, Tina is going off the whole enterprise.

1:47:23 > 1:47:27For me, the person who wanted to come here is now thinking maybe not.

1:47:27 > 1:47:33Daughter Lauren has always wanted to come, but with her mum backtracking, her future hangs in the balance.

1:47:33 > 1:47:36I really, really want to move over here.

1:47:36 > 1:47:39I just kind of hope my parents say, "yes".

1:47:39 > 1:47:43Can Robin take charge and pull his family together?

1:47:43 > 1:47:44Hello, fish.

1:47:46 > 1:47:49You can't get in, you'll get wet!

1:47:49 > 1:47:53It's the end of the week, and there has been a complete role reversal.

1:47:53 > 1:47:56It's not Robin but Tina who has her doubts.

1:47:56 > 1:47:59This week hasn't gone anything like I thought it was going to go,

1:47:59 > 1:48:04because I thought we'd come here, it would be fabulous and an easy decision.

1:48:04 > 1:48:07It is fabulous but it's not an easy decision.

1:48:07 > 1:48:09I've had a great time. There's more highs than lows.

1:48:09 > 1:48:11There's hardly any lows for me. I've had a great time.

1:48:11 > 1:48:15I've seen things I never knew anything about. Met some lovely people.

1:48:15 > 1:48:19For me now, it's been a bit of a nightmare, really, I think.

1:48:19 > 1:48:23Personally, it's been quite stressful.

1:48:23 > 1:48:26Now she's feeling, because I like it, she might just go along with it.

1:48:26 > 1:48:28I don't want her to do that. I want her to want to come.

1:48:28 > 1:48:31Personally, I'm struggling, quite big time.

1:48:31 > 1:48:36But then, my family seem pretty happy here. Personally, for me,

1:48:36 > 1:48:38it's a tough one, actually.

1:48:38 > 1:48:41Is there a dinosaur in there? OK...

1:48:41 > 1:48:45Robin's been on an empowering journey of self-discovery,

1:48:45 > 1:48:48and is even ready to leave the job he loves.

1:48:48 > 1:48:52I've been there over half my life. I've never known anything else.

1:48:52 > 1:48:55I know everybody there - it's part of me.

1:48:55 > 1:48:57It would be the end of a chapter in my life,

1:48:57 > 1:49:00and it's been a big part of my life, all of my working life.

1:49:00 > 1:49:03But it's not the end of the world.

1:49:03 > 1:49:04I didn't think I'd say that

1:49:04 > 1:49:06but now I've come to round to the idea of maybe leaving...

1:49:06 > 1:49:08Come on, guys.

1:49:08 > 1:49:12Not for me, not for Tina - it's for all of us to come.

1:49:12 > 1:49:17Robin's finally made a decision but is it too late?

1:49:17 > 1:49:21Once you're here and the bullet is between the teeth, it's really difficult.

1:49:21 > 1:49:22It's really tough.

1:49:22 > 1:49:24I don't know what she's going to say.

1:49:24 > 1:49:27I'm kind of hoping she's going to say, "yes."

1:49:27 > 1:49:29Mum is very unpredictable.

1:49:29 > 1:49:32It's time for the final vote.

1:49:32 > 1:49:34Personally, this is a really tough decision for me.

1:49:34 > 1:49:38I'm really struggling and I'm finding it very difficult.

1:49:38 > 1:49:42I'm finding it difficult because it wasn't really my idea to come

1:49:42 > 1:49:43but we're going to vote.

1:49:43 > 1:49:45I'll go first.

1:49:45 > 1:49:48Australia.

1:49:48 > 1:49:52It's been a no-brainer from the start for me - Australia.

1:49:54 > 1:49:57Because I think it's best for the family,

1:49:57 > 1:49:59I'm going to vote Australia.

1:49:59 > 1:50:02LAUREN GASPS

1:50:10 > 1:50:14What a week! Tina and Robin have decided to put aside

1:50:14 > 1:50:18their problems and vote with their hearts, to do what's best

1:50:18 > 1:50:21for their family. Let's hope it works out for them.
