0:00:02 > 0:00:05Would you consider tearing your children

0:00:05 > 0:00:07away from their grandparents

0:00:07 > 0:00:10to start a new life in Australia?

0:00:10 > 0:00:14If you had suffered the heartache of your father passing away,

0:00:14 > 0:00:20could you really abandon the house he helped you build and leave your mum behind?

0:00:20 > 0:00:23Surf-mad Scott dreams of a life by the sea.

0:00:23 > 0:00:26Jump in the water for an hour while they play on the beach,

0:00:26 > 0:00:29then come and surf with them in the smaller waves.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32Yeah, what a dream, what a wonderful lifestyle.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34But, for Victoria,

0:00:34 > 0:00:37tearing her children from their grandmother would break her heart.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40She was trying to be... trying to be really strong

0:00:40 > 0:00:43and supportive but I know that she's going to miss them terribly.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46With the family's future hanging in the balance,

0:00:46 > 0:00:49they need to convince themselves that they really could

0:00:49 > 0:00:52give up their loved ones for a new life on the other side of the world.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54Changes daily.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00Just wish somebody could give me the right answers.

0:01:21 > 0:01:26With its hot climate and over 10,000 beaches,

0:01:26 > 0:01:28Australia is a popular destination for Brits.

0:01:28 > 0:01:35Over 35,000 people emigrate there every year but it doesn't work for everyone,

0:01:35 > 0:01:39as nearly a third return to the UK, missing their old lives.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42We're giving one family the chance to see if a new life

0:01:42 > 0:01:46on the other side of the world could really give them everything they dream of.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49They've got just one week to find out.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53Art teacher Scott Corbett lives with his wife, Victoria,

0:01:53 > 0:01:58and their two children, Mason, who's three, and Indie, aged two,

0:01:58 > 0:02:00in Cwmcarn in South Wales.

0:02:00 > 0:02:03They love their home but, since visiting Australia over 20 years ago,

0:02:03 > 0:02:07Scott's dreamt of a life of sun and surfing.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10I guess everybody has a dream.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13Some people have small dreams, some people have big dreams.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16Mine has always been to live close to the beach.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19In Australia, just everything seems to be outside living,

0:02:19 > 0:02:23outdoor living, and that's a massive, massive pull.

0:02:23 > 0:02:27After nearly nine years of lovingly renovating their Welsh home,

0:02:27 > 0:02:29Victoria's willing to consider a new chapter in their life.

0:02:29 > 0:02:33- I always wanted to convert a barn, so we did my bit.- Yeah.

0:02:33 > 0:02:38- All throughout, Scott's wanted to live by the beach, do his thing, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:02:38 > 0:02:41So, we've done my dream, we've got to do yours a bit, now, haven't we?

0:02:41 > 0:02:43Well, we can try it, see what happens.

0:02:45 > 0:02:49The family came close to moving six months ago but tragedy struck

0:02:49 > 0:02:51and stopped them in their tracks.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54We had the visas, you know, we'd spent all the money.

0:02:54 > 0:02:59It was there in the passport and, the day it came through, that was the 9th of September. Um...

0:02:59 > 0:03:02And, come the 4th of October, my dad passed away.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07(Sorry.)

0:03:10 > 0:03:12All of a sudden, the Australia dream was out the window,

0:03:12 > 0:03:15because I couldn't even think of it.

0:03:17 > 0:03:21Her dad's memory lives on in the home he helped them build.

0:03:21 > 0:03:24Despite the huge emotion they've invested in it,

0:03:24 > 0:03:27they've put it on the market, but Victoria's having doubts.

0:03:29 > 0:03:33I keep saying to Scott, "We need to stop it." You know?

0:03:33 > 0:03:37"We need to pull the plug a bit, to stand back a bit."

0:03:37 > 0:03:43This home will be totally gone and there won't be any coming back to that.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46OK, you can come back to Britain but we're not going to get this again.

0:03:46 > 0:03:52For Scott's parents, losing Mason and Indie to Australia would be devastating.

0:03:52 > 0:03:58For Mason and Indie to not see their grandparents, that's going to be dreadful.

0:03:58 > 0:04:00Mason, in particular, just...

0:04:00 > 0:04:02is the apple of my father's eyes.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05They spend all of their time together when he's down and, er...

0:04:07 > 0:04:10..that's going to hurt them a hell of a lot. It really is.

0:04:10 > 0:04:13If they did move, Victoria still hopes her mum

0:04:13 > 0:04:16would be able to spend large chunks of the year with them.

0:04:16 > 0:04:19She's like my best friend as much as anything.

0:04:19 > 0:04:25The thought of leaving her here without my dad to sort of... keep her on the straight and narrow.

0:04:25 > 0:04:28You know, she dotes on the grandkids,

0:04:28 > 0:04:30they're her only two grandkids.

0:04:30 > 0:04:35The thought of doing that to her just rips my heart out, because it's really hard.

0:04:35 > 0:04:36(Sorry.)

0:04:37 > 0:04:43They've come so close but Scott and Victoria don't know if they can make that final step.

0:04:43 > 0:04:44Look under those stones...

0:04:44 > 0:04:45'If I love Australia...'

0:04:45 > 0:04:47and Vic doesn't, er...

0:04:52 > 0:04:54..that'll be a choker, that would be horrendous,

0:04:54 > 0:04:59but if it's just one person's dream and not two people's dream, well, you can't do it.

0:04:59 > 0:05:01You just...you just can't do it.

0:05:02 > 0:05:08Today, I'm 50-50, yesterday I was 95% certain,

0:05:08 > 0:05:13last week I was about 100% certain we were doing the wrong thing.

0:05:13 > 0:05:16So, it changes. Changes daily.

0:05:20 > 0:05:23Just wish somebody could give me the right answers.

0:05:23 > 0:05:25With the future of their children to consider,

0:05:25 > 0:05:28if they can't face the pain of leaving loved ones

0:05:28 > 0:05:32or their home behind, Scott's dream will be left in tatters.

0:05:34 > 0:05:39The Corbett family are going to try out life Down Under for one week.

0:05:39 > 0:05:44Scott visited Australia over 20 years ago but, for Victoria,

0:05:44 > 0:05:47it would be a leap of faith.

0:05:47 > 0:05:50They want to start a new chapter in their lives

0:05:50 > 0:05:55but can they really leave behind their home and loved ones?

0:05:56 > 0:05:59Scott's teaching qualifications would enable him

0:05:59 > 0:06:02to work anywhere in the country but finding the right location

0:06:02 > 0:06:05is vital if they're going to be convinced by life in Australia.

0:06:09 > 0:06:13We could send them to Melbourne, a metropolitan and multicultural city.

0:06:13 > 0:06:16Family incomes might be higher than the national average

0:06:16 > 0:06:22but so, too, are the property prices, at around £310,000 for an average home.

0:06:22 > 0:06:26But life in a big city could be too radical a change for the Corbetts.

0:06:31 > 0:06:33Another possibility would be Adelaide,

0:06:33 > 0:06:39Australia's fifth-largest city, where over 2,000 Brits emigrate every year.

0:06:39 > 0:06:44Houses are more affordable, with an average price of £255,000,

0:06:44 > 0:06:47and, with over 440 schools in Adelaide alone,

0:06:47 > 0:06:51there should be plenty of places for Scott to find work.

0:06:53 > 0:06:57Finally, we could send them to Cairns, the gateway to the Barrier Reef.

0:06:57 > 0:07:01With a population of only 150,000 people,

0:07:01 > 0:07:05its small size might appeal to the Corbetts and property is cheap,

0:07:05 > 0:07:09with the average home costing around £220,000.

0:07:09 > 0:07:14But, whilst diving and snorkelling around the reef is the dream for many,

0:07:14 > 0:07:16for Scott, the lack of surf would be a real problem.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21Each city offered the Corbetts something different

0:07:21 > 0:07:25but we felt that Adelaide best suited their requirements.

0:07:25 > 0:07:27With a small-town feel,

0:07:27 > 0:07:31moving to Adelaide wouldn't be too big a culture shock.

0:07:31 > 0:07:35Surfing would be easily accessible for Scott further down the coast.

0:07:35 > 0:07:36They've got a tough week ahead,

0:07:36 > 0:07:40trying out every aspect of Australian life.

0:07:40 > 0:07:45They'll be looking for a house that could live up to the home they adore in Gwent.

0:07:45 > 0:07:49Scott will get to put teaching in Australia to the test

0:07:49 > 0:07:54but taking a closer look at their finances could bring some worrying results.

0:07:54 > 0:07:58Victoria will have to face the true cost of leaving

0:07:58 > 0:08:03and, if Scott is ever going to see his dream of a new life in Australia become a reality,

0:08:03 > 0:08:08they all need to learn to cope with the pain of separation from their loved ones.

0:08:10 > 0:08:13After an exhausting 23 hours in transit,

0:08:13 > 0:08:18the Corbett family have travelled over 10,500 miles.

0:08:18 > 0:08:22They touch down with two surprisingly awake and excitable children in tow.

0:08:23 > 0:08:25They've been so good on the plane, they've sat still.

0:08:25 > 0:08:27They've been absolutely brilliant.

0:08:27 > 0:08:30They had an eight-hour sleep and a five-hour sleep.

0:08:30 > 0:08:33I mean, it doesn't get better than that, does it? Not really.

0:08:33 > 0:08:37I think we had about eight minutes and about five minutes!

0:08:37 > 0:08:42They've only just arrived and are already trying to get their heads around the Australian dollar

0:08:42 > 0:08:46but the unfavourable exchange rate has really worried them.

0:08:46 > 0:08:49When we started looking, it was 2.4 to the pound,

0:08:49 > 0:08:51and, last going off, it was 1.6.

0:08:51 > 0:08:55So, I mean, that's... we're talking about 100,000, plus...

0:08:55 > 0:08:58- More than that.- ..difference. - It's probably 160,000.

0:08:58 > 0:09:00Yeah, which is a lifetime's worth of savings.

0:09:00 > 0:09:03However, we're looking outside and it's the most gorgeous day

0:09:03 > 0:09:05I think we've ever seen, just about.

0:09:05 > 0:09:09We're in Australia. Maybe that makes up for it. We'll see.

0:09:09 > 0:09:12Scott's putting a positive spin on it but having less to spend

0:09:12 > 0:09:17could make a massive difference to the lifestyle and house they can realistically afford.

0:09:21 > 0:09:23Their home for the week will be this small,

0:09:23 > 0:09:26two-bedroom apartment in Aldinga Beach.

0:09:26 > 0:09:28Lovely. Nice and light, isn't it?

0:09:28 > 0:09:33Since we last saw the Corbetts in Gwent, they've taken their house off the market.

0:09:33 > 0:09:38Having not been to Australia, with all the emotions and everything,

0:09:38 > 0:09:40we want to be able to have it without the pressure of,

0:09:40 > 0:09:43"We've got no house to go back to because we've sold it anyway."

0:09:43 > 0:09:45It just felt all wrong, didn't it?

0:09:45 > 0:09:48But they won't be leaping into any quick decisions.

0:09:48 > 0:09:53Hopefully, this week will cement it, one way or the other. Whether we...

0:09:54 > 0:10:00..give it up as a dream that maybe isn't right, isn't meant to be.

0:10:00 > 0:10:03I don't think you can put your finger on it,

0:10:03 > 0:10:06without seeing it and feeling it. And...

0:10:07 > 0:10:10..from a personal point of view, if I see it, if I feel it,

0:10:10 > 0:10:12then, to me, that's going to be...

0:10:13 > 0:10:14..enough.

0:10:14 > 0:10:17If they can't face the thought of leaving the home

0:10:17 > 0:10:21and the people they love, they won't be going anywhere.

0:10:25 > 0:10:29Back in the UK, the Corbetts' house is on top of a mountain in Gwent

0:10:29 > 0:10:32but it's more than just a home.

0:10:32 > 0:10:34Victoria's parents worked alongside them

0:10:34 > 0:10:38to turn what was a ruined sheep barn into a stunning barn conversion,

0:10:38 > 0:10:42so their emotional investment runs far deeper than merely bricks and mortar.

0:10:42 > 0:10:44Mum and Dad were incredible.

0:10:44 > 0:10:49They just did so much here, just an incredible amount of work.

0:10:49 > 0:10:52You look around the place and every single room,

0:10:52 > 0:10:55every part of the garden...

0:10:55 > 0:10:56there's memories.

0:10:56 > 0:11:00You know, there's a huge amount of memories there

0:11:00 > 0:11:07and the thought of leaving here and not having those memories is hard.

0:11:08 > 0:11:11With so many memories of her father at the barn,

0:11:11 > 0:11:16they'll never be able to replace it and any new home in Australia will have a lot to live up to.

0:11:17 > 0:11:22The Corbett family dream of building their perfect home

0:11:22 > 0:11:26but they need to find out what their options are.

0:11:26 > 0:11:28Space for their two adventure-loving children

0:11:28 > 0:11:32and easy access to the beach are key considerations

0:11:32 > 0:11:37but, to do this within budget, it's going to be a real challenge.

0:11:37 > 0:11:42Adelaide is the flourishing capital of South Australia

0:11:42 > 0:11:45but properties near the city centre aren't cheap.

0:11:45 > 0:11:50This spacious four-bedroom house will cost them around £365,000

0:11:50 > 0:11:56but, in the city, finding enough outside space would mean spending considerably more money.

0:11:56 > 0:11:58Something more in tune with the life they know

0:11:58 > 0:12:01would be living further out in the countryside.

0:12:01 > 0:12:06Houses like this £405,000 two-storey in Stirling

0:12:06 > 0:12:09would offer plenty of green space, four good-sized bedrooms

0:12:09 > 0:12:13and a large living area but, with an hour's journey to the beach,

0:12:13 > 0:12:17it wouldn't offer the access to the water that Scott wants.

0:12:18 > 0:12:23The final possibility is to search for a dream house by the ocean.

0:12:23 > 0:12:25Areas like Hallett Cove are popular

0:12:25 > 0:12:28but you pay for being close to the city.

0:12:28 > 0:12:34Costing £390,000, this house has sea views, a spacious lounge

0:12:34 > 0:12:36and a decent-sized garden.

0:12:38 > 0:12:41After taking into account everything the Corbetts are looking for,

0:12:41 > 0:12:46we've decided to show them three self-built properties near to the coast.

0:12:46 > 0:12:49With a small mortgage, they would have around £350,000

0:12:49 > 0:12:52to buy the plot and then build the house.

0:12:52 > 0:12:56Property 1 is an example of the kind of house they could build.

0:12:56 > 0:13:00It's in Hallett Cove, 45 minutes from the city centre.

0:13:00 > 0:13:03It would give them a stunning open-plan living area,

0:13:03 > 0:13:07three bedrooms, extra space downstairs and the pool.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10Owner and architect Michael Noble is on hand to meet them.

0:13:10 > 0:13:12How much would something like this cost?

0:13:12 > 0:13:18- Well, the land cost, in pounds, about 130,000.- OK.

0:13:18 > 0:13:20Then the building was about 260,000.

0:13:20 > 0:13:25So, it's about 390,000 overall. But that, pretty much, is the bill.

0:13:25 > 0:13:28- Right, OK. - Would you like to have a look?

0:13:28 > 0:13:31- Love to. Yes, please!- Yes, please!

0:13:31 > 0:13:34With total costs of approximately £390,000,

0:13:34 > 0:13:38they'd need to take out a higher mortgage to afford it.

0:13:38 > 0:13:40- Michael's left them to explore on their own.- Wow.

0:13:40 > 0:13:43Look at this! Go on in.

0:13:43 > 0:13:45That is one heck of a view!

0:13:45 > 0:13:48- This is stunning, isn't it? - Your smiley face.

0:13:48 > 0:13:50Well, that's just gorgeous.

0:13:50 > 0:13:52It's really lovely, isn't it?

0:13:52 > 0:13:55This is how I see us living, in open-plan like this.

0:13:57 > 0:14:02We can see the sea. We're virtually on the beach, here.

0:14:02 > 0:14:04Oh! Look what I can see downstairs.

0:14:04 > 0:14:07- Would you like a swimming pool in our house?- Yeah.- Like that one?

0:14:07 > 0:14:09Bigger, bigger, bigger!

0:14:09 > 0:14:12They'll need a lot more room for the size of pool Indie wants

0:14:12 > 0:14:16but, inside, the view is less than impressive.

0:14:16 > 0:14:19It's a bit different, though, waking up to our view over Twmbarlwm

0:14:19 > 0:14:23with no houses to see for anywhere and, then, looking at a brick wall.

0:14:23 > 0:14:24Yeah.

0:14:24 > 0:14:26Unfortunately, living in such a popular

0:14:26 > 0:14:30and populated area means the houses can feel close together.

0:14:32 > 0:14:36But, with two good-size bedrooms, everyone's feeling at home.

0:14:36 > 0:14:39I'm curious as to what's downstairs, now.

0:14:39 > 0:14:42They'd love a granny flat for Victoria's mum.

0:14:42 > 0:14:45Downstairs might be just the solution.

0:14:45 > 0:14:47- Ah, look at this. - Wow, now, there's a room.

0:14:48 > 0:14:51Something like this would be ideal for Mum, isn't it?

0:14:51 > 0:14:55- Because she could have her own access...- Yeah.- ..from downstairs.

0:14:55 > 0:14:58- Shall we go and have a look in the garden?- Yeah!- Come on, then.

0:14:58 > 0:15:00- Come on. - Let's go see that swimming pool.

0:15:00 > 0:15:01Yay!

0:15:01 > 0:15:04They're seeing plenty of potential for this house

0:15:04 > 0:15:06but Scott isn't without concerns.

0:15:06 > 0:15:09The 290,000 build is the part that I'm concerned about.

0:15:09 > 0:15:13That's nearly all of our budget and we haven't bought any land yet.

0:15:13 > 0:15:17- Yeah. Lots of things to balance up. - Lots of things to balance up.

0:15:18 > 0:15:20Their hunt for a cheaper build

0:15:20 > 0:15:24and more space should be satisfied by Property 2.

0:15:24 > 0:15:27It's an impressive four-bedroom house in Aldinga Beach,

0:15:27 > 0:15:29set on a large block of land but, best of all,

0:15:29 > 0:15:31it's under budget at £280,000.

0:15:33 > 0:15:35- Come on, then. - You going to bounce over here?

0:15:35 > 0:15:38Whilst a member of our team looks after a sleeping Indie,

0:15:38 > 0:15:40the rest of the family explore.

0:15:40 > 0:15:44It's a very different layout, with the bedrooms on the ground floor.

0:15:44 > 0:15:47Wow, I love these floor-to-ceiling windows. Look at that!

0:15:47 > 0:15:50- They work well, don't they?- It's great.- They work really well. OK.

0:15:50 > 0:15:52Where are we going?

0:15:53 > 0:15:58- Mason seems happy but size is an issue.- Ideally, I'd like it bigger.

0:15:58 > 0:16:00On the face of it, it's like, "Oh, this is great."

0:16:00 > 0:16:04- Then you think, "Do you know, hang on a minute."- Yeah.

0:16:04 > 0:16:06- A bit more size would be good. - This is quite small.

0:16:06 > 0:16:10They'd have enough rooms but it's up to the living space to win them round.

0:16:10 > 0:16:13Wow, this is what we're after, Scott.

0:16:13 > 0:16:16That does it. And you're saying we can afford it, mortgage-free.

0:16:16 > 0:16:19The nicest thing about here, for me,

0:16:19 > 0:16:23- is that the last property felt hemmed in.- Oh, it was.

0:16:23 > 0:16:25Yay!

0:16:25 > 0:16:29Indie's woken up and her parents' enthusiasm is obviously infectious.

0:16:29 > 0:16:33- Did you have a lovely sleep? - Look! Look out there!

0:16:33 > 0:16:35- Do you want to go and see?- Yeah!

0:16:35 > 0:16:39Outside, the huge balcony looks over protected scrubland,

0:16:39 > 0:16:43so the view would never be obstructed and, unlike Property 1,

0:16:43 > 0:16:46they wouldn't be looking straight out at their neighbours.

0:16:46 > 0:16:50- We can afford this.- Without a mortgage. Yep, liking this one.

0:16:50 > 0:16:52SCOTT LAUGHS

0:16:52 > 0:16:55- Liking this one.- Wonder what the next one's going to be like?

0:16:55 > 0:16:58Property 2 has won Scott and Victoria over.

0:16:58 > 0:17:01If the next house ups the ante, leaving the home they love

0:17:01 > 0:17:05in Wales might finally seem like a real possibility.

0:17:05 > 0:17:10Located even further south, in Carrickalinga,

0:17:10 > 0:17:14Property 3 is a converted cottage with a large garden and even a spa.

0:17:14 > 0:17:16To get an extra room,

0:17:16 > 0:17:18they would have to spend more than the £370,000

0:17:18 > 0:17:21this home cost to build.

0:17:21 > 0:17:25- Have a look! - Elephant! Elephant! Elephant!

0:17:29 > 0:17:31That is gorgeous, isn't it?

0:17:31 > 0:17:35If there were however many boxes to tick, I think that's just ticked every box.

0:17:35 > 0:17:39Outside, there's no pool or protected scrubland

0:17:39 > 0:17:41but the location might just win them over.

0:17:41 > 0:17:42Look at that!

0:17:42 > 0:17:47There's a footpath, literally next door to the house, which takes you down to the beach.

0:17:47 > 0:17:49I know. What more can you ask for?

0:17:49 > 0:17:54With the beach only 200 metres away, Scott is truly impressed.

0:17:54 > 0:17:59- The bedrooms need to keep up the high standard.- This is good.

0:17:59 > 0:18:03- This is nice.- Oh, this is nice. - This is a lovely room, isn't it?

0:18:03 > 0:18:06They've been impressed but they want more space.

0:18:06 > 0:18:10- It's lovely, isn't it?- It is. - See what else we can find.

0:18:10 > 0:18:12I mean, the only downside of these bedrooms, I guess,

0:18:12 > 0:18:15at the minute, is, compared to the other properties,

0:18:15 > 0:18:17they are smaller again, aren't they?

0:18:17 > 0:18:21The overall size of this house could also be a problem.

0:18:22 > 0:18:25One of our big things is having Mum to stay

0:18:25 > 0:18:27for big chunks of the year and to be close.

0:18:27 > 0:18:30I think that would be an issue, if we were on top of one another.

0:18:30 > 0:18:32Well, it's a three-bed house.

0:18:32 > 0:18:35We've got a lot to weigh up.

0:18:35 > 0:18:37If we could find a plot which is as nice as this

0:18:37 > 0:18:39and build the size that we want...

0:18:41 > 0:18:43..it's then a job because there's far less schools,

0:18:43 > 0:18:47far less people down this far south of Adelaide city.

0:18:47 > 0:18:49Um, so, concerns.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52There's just still lots of things that we need to sum up, isn't there?

0:18:52 > 0:18:55The Corbett family have seen three very different options.

0:18:55 > 0:18:59With Property 1, the neighbours were too close.

0:18:59 > 0:19:02But they really fell for Property 2, with its large plot

0:19:02 > 0:19:04and impressive living areas.

0:19:04 > 0:19:06Finally, Property 3 was hugely impressive

0:19:06 > 0:19:11but the distance to the city and the lack of a fourth bedroom was a big concern.

0:19:13 > 0:19:17Feelings about what they'd be leaving behind are still raw.

0:19:17 > 0:19:21It is a really scary prospect, the thought of leaving the barn and...

0:19:21 > 0:19:24leaving all of our attachments, isn't it?

0:19:24 > 0:19:28But then, I suppose at some point we've got to draw a line under it

0:19:28 > 0:19:32and move on and start the next chapter and...

0:19:33 > 0:19:34..hopefully...

0:19:34 > 0:19:37that won't be too hard.

0:19:37 > 0:19:40Saying that, it'll probably be horrific.

0:19:41 > 0:19:44After seeing what they could build for themselves in Australia,

0:19:44 > 0:19:45it's time to make up their minds.

0:19:45 > 0:19:50They need to know if they could really leave behind the home they love for a fresh start here.

0:19:50 > 0:19:55It's going to be really difficult to consider leaving the barn back home.

0:19:55 > 0:19:59But, basing our decision on what we've seen today, we're going to choose...

0:20:02 > 0:20:04- ..Australia!- Australia!

0:20:07 > 0:20:12- That means you, too.- Yeah. Yay! We like Australian houses.- We do.

0:20:12 > 0:20:16By being able to imagine leaving their converted barn in Gwent,

0:20:16 > 0:20:18they've overcome a massive hurdle.

0:20:18 > 0:20:21Scott's dream is one huge step closer.

0:20:25 > 0:20:29The Corbett family have been blown away by the kind of properties

0:20:29 > 0:20:35they could build but, if Scott can't earn enough money,

0:20:35 > 0:20:41constructing their dream home and funding the lifestyle they envisage would be impossible.

0:20:41 > 0:20:45Everything depends on his ability to get a teaching job.

0:20:45 > 0:20:48Back in the UK, Scott is head of the art department

0:20:48 > 0:20:50at Cwmcarn High School.

0:20:50 > 0:20:52Over the last seven years, he's worked hard to get that position

0:20:52 > 0:20:57and the thought of starting again is daunting.

0:20:57 > 0:21:00I've set the department up as I want to set a department up.

0:21:00 > 0:21:02If I move to...

0:21:02 > 0:21:04Australia, then there's...

0:21:04 > 0:21:07I'm guessing, there has to be a drop in salary.

0:21:07 > 0:21:11Um...there has to be a situation where I'm not the main man

0:21:11 > 0:21:14and I'm having to be told, "This is how we do it."

0:21:14 > 0:21:18We've arranged for him to try out teaching at Christies Beach High School.

0:21:18 > 0:21:24He's meeting the deputy principal, Sharon Goldman, and art teacher, Sean McGovern,

0:21:24 > 0:21:27who should be able to tell him everything he needs to know.

0:21:28 > 0:21:31It could be the perfect place for Scott to find work.

0:21:31 > 0:21:34So, how many lessons a week do these guys get, did you say?

0:21:34 > 0:21:37- Two double lessons per week. - Right.- OK?

0:21:37 > 0:21:40- So they get a fair amount of time, then, to work.- Yeah.

0:21:40 > 0:21:46- All art lessons are practical-based. - Yeah.- Yeah.- Do they do any theory?

0:21:46 > 0:21:47Yes, they do.

0:21:47 > 0:21:51Scott wants to get some practical teaching experience

0:21:51 > 0:21:54and Sean's agreed to let him lead the lesson.

0:21:54 > 0:21:57I want you to create some sort of portrait, using mixed media.

0:21:57 > 0:22:00I'm not going to talk a heck of a lot this afternoon.

0:22:00 > 0:22:02What I'm going to be doing is coming round,

0:22:02 > 0:22:05trying to help you in what you're doing.

0:22:05 > 0:22:10Design and technology teacher, Victoria, is determined not to let Scott have all the creative fun,

0:22:10 > 0:22:14so she's taking the children to an art class in Glenelg.

0:22:14 > 0:22:17Oh, hello! And who have we got here?

0:22:17 > 0:22:21If they do make the move, Victoria plans to be a full-time mum

0:22:21 > 0:22:26and she needs to know that she and the children would have plenty to do while Scott's at work.

0:22:26 > 0:22:29If we do move over, my number one priority is the kids.

0:22:29 > 0:22:32They've got to be happy, they've got to be settled,

0:22:32 > 0:22:35so they can form friendships and I can form friendships, as well,

0:22:35 > 0:22:39because, at the end of the day, a two- and a three-year-old

0:22:39 > 0:22:42can only have so much stimulating conversation with me.

0:22:42 > 0:22:44So I've got to keep myself sane, as well.

0:22:44 > 0:22:46Victoria is struggling to see

0:22:46 > 0:22:49Scott's vision of a future for them here.

0:22:49 > 0:22:52There's something missing at the minute,

0:22:52 > 0:22:58I'm just hoping that we do find the lifestyle that we want because, if it doesn't...

0:23:00 > 0:23:04..then I'm not sure that this is going to be the right thing to do.

0:23:04 > 0:23:08Adelaide hasn't yet won her heart and just thinking about leaving her mum

0:23:08 > 0:23:11makes the decision she has to make even harder.

0:23:11 > 0:23:14You know, I see my mum three times a week.

0:23:14 > 0:23:19And she does loads with the kids and... God, sorry.

0:23:19 > 0:23:22..she's going to miss them massively.

0:23:22 > 0:23:24She was virtually in tears before we left.

0:23:24 > 0:23:28She was trying to be, um...trying to be really strong and supportive

0:23:28 > 0:23:31but I know that she's going to miss them terribly.

0:23:31 > 0:23:35The idea of leaving her mum is giving Victoria serious doubts.

0:23:35 > 0:23:38If Scott's ever going to realise his dream,

0:23:38 > 0:23:40he has to prove this is a move worth making.

0:23:42 > 0:23:46Thanks very much for that, you've been magic. Cheers, guys.

0:23:46 > 0:23:47He's inspired the kids

0:23:47 > 0:23:51and deputy principal Sharon's keen to see the results.

0:23:51 > 0:23:55- That's fantastic!- Yeah, yeah. They're all great, Sharon.

0:23:55 > 0:23:57We gave them a five-minute break and, um...

0:23:57 > 0:24:00some of them just worked through. They didn't stop working on that.

0:24:00 > 0:24:04- That made me smile, that was one of the nicest bits today, that I saw. - Well, that's fabulous.

0:24:04 > 0:24:09Scott would be looking to work as a relief of supply teacher when they first move

0:24:09 > 0:24:12but he'll need to know he could earn enough to support a whole family.

0:24:12 > 0:24:15If you're doing relief work, it's about 330 a day.

0:24:15 > 0:24:18Of course, that's a daily rate,

0:24:18 > 0:24:21so the amount you get is how many days you work.

0:24:21 > 0:24:23That would be about...about £200.

0:24:23 > 0:24:28If I'm only getting a day's work, per week...£200 doesn't really cut it then, does it?

0:24:28 > 0:24:31But, you know, if I'm working every day,

0:24:31 > 0:24:34then that sounds like a good amount of money.

0:24:34 > 0:24:38That works out at approximately £40,000 a year.

0:24:38 > 0:24:42More than he's on in the UK but Scott would be taking a huge gamble

0:24:42 > 0:24:45that he'd be able to get enough days of work to support them all.

0:24:45 > 0:24:47- Great to meet you, Scott. - Cheers, Sean.

0:24:47 > 0:24:51Thanks very much for running my lesson. It was wonderful. Thank you.

0:24:51 > 0:24:54Scott need to be convinced he really could work in Adelaide.

0:24:54 > 0:24:57It's time to find out if he's been won over.

0:24:57 > 0:25:00Based on today, my decision is...

0:25:01 > 0:25:03..Australia!

0:25:03 > 0:25:07I'm surprising myself there, I'm really surprising myself,

0:25:07 > 0:25:09because I've been thinking all day that,

0:25:09 > 0:25:12"Is it? Is it? Should I? Should I?" My school back home is...

0:25:12 > 0:25:15I'm set up there, I know how everything works.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18Um, I think it's probably time to step out of the comfort zone, really.

0:25:22 > 0:25:25For the Corbetts, leaving their support network

0:25:25 > 0:25:29of friends and family in the UK is a terrifying prospect.

0:25:29 > 0:25:33They won't be able to replace them but Scott and Victoria need

0:25:33 > 0:25:38to find out if they could fit in and make new friends Down Under.

0:25:39 > 0:25:42The Corbetts love the outdoor life,

0:25:42 > 0:25:45so they're spending the afternoon exploring Cleland Wildlife Park.

0:25:47 > 0:25:51They're meeting Michael and Michelle Tippins and their three girls.

0:25:51 > 0:25:55Michael's a teacher at Christies Beach High School,

0:25:55 > 0:25:58so Scott's keen to get a second opinion on working there.

0:25:58 > 0:26:01- Is it a nice school to teach at? - Um, it's challenging.

0:26:01 > 0:26:06- Yeah.- But, I mean, this is going to sound corny, but you can...

0:26:06 > 0:26:09- you can make a difference. - Right, I see what you're saying.

0:26:09 > 0:26:12You can make a difference because a lot of the kids there need really good teachers

0:26:12 > 0:26:17- because sometimes they, you know, they might not have had a good start in life.- Yeah.

0:26:17 > 0:26:20- So you can, you can make a big difference.- That sounds good.- Yeah.

0:26:20 > 0:26:24I like the idea of that, rather than being in the situation where,

0:26:24 > 0:26:26you know, they don't care whether you try hard or don't try hard.

0:26:26 > 0:26:28That's it.

0:26:28 > 0:26:30That's reassuring for Scott

0:26:30 > 0:26:35but Victoria is worried about leaving her family in Wales.

0:26:35 > 0:26:39It's essential they'd be able to find supportive friends

0:26:39 > 0:26:43and neighbours, so that she and the children can bear the separation.

0:26:43 > 0:26:48- So, have you got any concerns about the children settling into the community at all?- Um, yeah.

0:26:48 > 0:26:50I mean Mason, especially,

0:26:50 > 0:26:55is quite sort of nervous around new situations.

0:26:55 > 0:26:57I think he'll find it really, really difficult.

0:26:57 > 0:27:01So, you know, we're really hoping to find a situation which is,

0:27:01 > 0:27:04um, you know, a lot of other children for him to play with

0:27:04 > 0:27:08straight away, so he can settle and feel like there's friendships.

0:27:08 > 0:27:11You'll probably find that that just won't be a problem.

0:27:11 > 0:27:15He'll settle right in and there's a lot of people in your situation

0:27:15 > 0:27:17coming over and settling in.

0:27:17 > 0:27:20They're quite open to meeting new people

0:27:20 > 0:27:23- and building friendships that way, as well.- Yeah.

0:27:23 > 0:27:25That's reassuring.

0:27:25 > 0:27:28Maybe Victoria and Scott could find the sense of community

0:27:28 > 0:27:30they're searching for.

0:27:31 > 0:27:35The Corbetts have had a great time meeting the locals

0:27:35 > 0:27:38and have learned about Australian life from Michael and Michelle.

0:27:38 > 0:27:40See you later.

0:27:40 > 0:27:42But could Australia really have the potential

0:27:42 > 0:27:45to replace their social network back in the UK?

0:27:45 > 0:27:47It's time to vote.

0:27:48 > 0:27:52We've met some fabulous people during our time in Australia...

0:27:52 > 0:27:57but leaving our friends back home in Britain is going to be really hard.

0:27:57 > 0:28:00So, our decision is going to be...

0:28:01 > 0:28:02..UK!

0:28:02 > 0:28:04- Australia!- UK!

0:28:06 > 0:28:08Potentially, there's some wonderful people in Australia.

0:28:08 > 0:28:13Every single person that we've met has been incredibly friendly

0:28:13 > 0:28:17but it's going be tough as to leave the people in the UK.

0:28:17 > 0:28:20My decision's based on the fact that we've got really super-close friends

0:28:20 > 0:28:23and that would be really, really difficult to replicate

0:28:23 > 0:28:27and friendships like that just take such a long time to build up.

0:28:27 > 0:28:30So that's why it's the UK for me.

0:28:32 > 0:28:34The Corbett family have discovered a dream home

0:28:34 > 0:28:37they could almost afford without a mortgage.

0:28:37 > 0:28:43While Scott discovered he could find regular work as a supply teacher, Victoria was having doubts.

0:28:44 > 0:28:47They'll find out whether the lifestyle they hope for

0:28:47 > 0:28:51really does exist and work out if they can afford to live here.

0:28:51 > 0:28:55They'll both need to overcome the devastating thought

0:28:55 > 0:28:59of leaving the people they love in South Wales before making up their minds.

0:28:59 > 0:29:02Is their future in the house they love

0:29:02 > 0:29:07or on the other side of the world, where Scott hopes to build a new life?

0:29:10 > 0:29:13It's vital Scott and Victoria discover

0:29:13 > 0:29:18if the Australian lifestyle is worth the heartache of leaving home.

0:29:18 > 0:29:20Where better to try it out

0:29:20 > 0:29:23and consider their future than at the beach?

0:29:23 > 0:29:26Scott's dream life involves surfing as often as possible,

0:29:26 > 0:29:29whilst the rest of the family enjoy the freedom of the sand.

0:29:29 > 0:29:34Beaches close to the city are too sheltered for serious surfers,

0:29:34 > 0:29:38so they're heading further south to Milton Beach in search of good-size waves.

0:29:38 > 0:29:41We've arranged for him to meet with Teale Vanner,

0:29:41 > 0:29:43a professional surfer and instructor.

0:29:43 > 0:29:47We'll try and get out there. We'll get you suited up and get you nice and warm.

0:29:47 > 0:29:50Guess the conditions aren't too cold for you guys.

0:29:50 > 0:29:52We'll go surfing today, so that should be fun.

0:29:52 > 0:29:54The weather might be like a good old British summer

0:29:54 > 0:29:58but it'll take more than rain to scare off the Corbett family.

0:29:58 > 0:30:00# Hahahaha. Wipeout! #

0:30:00 > 0:30:03MUSIC: "Wipeout" by The Beach Boys

0:30:03 > 0:30:05Getting past the breaking waves is a challenge but,

0:30:05 > 0:30:09once he's out there, it doesn't take Scott long to show his skills.

0:30:10 > 0:30:15Teale might be the professional but Scott's holding his own.

0:30:15 > 0:30:17Just.

0:30:17 > 0:30:20Victoria's first priority is to make sure that she could picture

0:30:20 > 0:30:23a bright future for Mason and Indie in Adelaide

0:30:23 > 0:30:26but the current situation feels a little too familiar.

0:30:26 > 0:30:31It's just like being in Porthcawl. It's a typical sort of, er...

0:30:31 > 0:30:34Welsh weekend, really, isn't it?

0:30:34 > 0:30:41Raining, blue kids, just not much different to back home, really.

0:30:41 > 0:30:42It might seem like home now

0:30:42 > 0:30:47but Victoria's finding the decision she faces impossible to make.

0:30:47 > 0:30:49I suppose you've got to balance it out, really,

0:30:49 > 0:30:54and figure out whether taking away grandparents

0:30:54 > 0:30:59for big chunks of the year and taking away the friends they've grown up with...

0:30:59 > 0:31:03whether that balances against the lifestyle that Scott and I

0:31:03 > 0:31:06think would be really, really beneficial for the kids.

0:31:06 > 0:31:10It is the scales that we've got to balance and got to get sorted.

0:31:10 > 0:31:14Finally, the cold and rain has got the better of Scott and Teale.

0:31:14 > 0:31:18If the surfing hasn't met Scott's expectations,

0:31:18 > 0:31:19doubts could rise to the surface.

0:31:21 > 0:31:23Wonderful. Yeah, lovely morning. But, um...

0:31:23 > 0:31:27if you're going to ask me, going to ask me the question,

0:31:27 > 0:31:29"Do you want to live just there?"

0:31:29 > 0:31:32Then it's going to be a really short answer. "Yes!"

0:31:32 > 0:31:36There's one thing that's truly impressed Scott and given him hope for the future.

0:31:36 > 0:31:38I must have seen...

0:31:38 > 0:31:4115 people far older than myself

0:31:41 > 0:31:43still surfing and still ripping.

0:31:43 > 0:31:46Still ripping on the waves, which was wonderful.

0:31:46 > 0:31:48So, I mean, if we do emigrate,

0:31:48 > 0:31:51then I guess I've got a lot of years ahead of me, surfing...

0:31:51 > 0:31:53in lovely places like this,

0:31:53 > 0:31:56being able to jump on the beach with the little ones.

0:31:56 > 0:32:00What a dream. What a wonderful, what a wonderful lifestyle. Just, yeah, fantastic.

0:32:00 > 0:32:03After a damp morning on the beach, the Corbett family need

0:32:03 > 0:32:08to decide if their dream lifestyle really is here in South Australia.

0:32:08 > 0:32:10It's time to vote.

0:32:10 > 0:32:14Based on my experience, so far, I'm going to vote...

0:32:16 > 0:32:19..Australia! No-brainer!

0:32:19 > 0:32:21And we're going to vote...

0:32:21 > 0:32:28- Australia! What about you two? - Australia!- What about you, Ind?

0:32:28 > 0:32:32- Britain!- Britain! Indie's a bit cold and wet.

0:32:38 > 0:32:43Back in the UK, the Corbetts' home was on the market for £430,000.

0:32:43 > 0:32:47They've poured their hearts and souls into renovating the old barn,

0:32:47 > 0:32:49so it's essential that the sale of it

0:32:49 > 0:32:54will provide a solid foundation for their dream life in Australia.

0:32:55 > 0:32:59It very much depends on what mortgage you want to have and how much we can afford.

0:32:59 > 0:33:02If there is a fantastic plot, then we'd be reasonably happy

0:33:02 > 0:33:07to put some sort of money into a mortgage, rather than go mortgage-free.

0:33:07 > 0:33:09But, in an ideal world,

0:33:09 > 0:33:15any money that I then earn is pocket money to have a wonderful lifestyle

0:33:15 > 0:33:19out there, which, at the end of the day, is what is part of the dream.

0:33:19 > 0:33:22If they do move, Scott will become a supply teacher,

0:33:22 > 0:33:26whilst Victoria settles Mason and Indie into their new life.

0:33:26 > 0:33:29But if they can't afford the future they dream of,

0:33:29 > 0:33:33they would lose everything they've worked so hard to build in the UK.

0:33:33 > 0:33:35We've prepared a cost comparison

0:33:35 > 0:33:39so they can work out exactly where they stand in Australia.

0:33:43 > 0:33:46- That's a lot more, isn't it?- Mm.

0:33:47 > 0:33:50It's surprising that fruit is more expensive, isn't it?

0:33:50 > 0:33:53Yes. Pretty much all more expensive, isn't it?

0:33:53 > 0:33:55- That's a big surprise, isn't it?- Mm.

0:33:55 > 0:33:57Ooh, yogurts are loads cheaper.

0:33:57 > 0:34:00The lovely thing is, is the property that I liked...

0:34:00 > 0:34:02Number 2, the second one.

0:34:02 > 0:34:07..the second one, the monthly repayments would be £30.

0:34:07 > 0:34:08We could deal with £30, couldn't we?

0:34:08 > 0:34:11Salary, that's the important one, isn't it?

0:34:11 > 0:34:15That's £250 down on what we get in the UK

0:34:15 > 0:34:18and our groceries are £135 more expensive.

0:34:20 > 0:34:22That's a lot.

0:34:22 > 0:34:26They need to know where they stand with virtually no mortgage for Property 2 in Aldinga

0:34:26 > 0:34:31or a mortgage of £650 a month for Property 1 in Hallett Cove.

0:34:31 > 0:34:35So, this figure here, then. 1,753.

0:34:35 > 0:34:38- That's with that £30-a-month mortgage.- Aldinga, yeah.

0:34:38 > 0:34:41For Aldinga. And that bigger figure, there.

0:34:41 > 0:34:44- 2,373, that's for Hallett Cove with a...- ..whacking mortgage.

0:34:44 > 0:34:49- So, we'd be plus £148... - ..better off...- ..in Aldinga.- Yeah.

0:34:49 > 0:34:51- But that's without a mortgage.- Yeah.

0:34:51 > 0:34:58- Oh, we'll be way down.- Yeah. We'd be minus £472 down.

0:34:58 > 0:35:00- That's a big chunk, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:35:01 > 0:35:02HE SIGHS

0:35:02 > 0:35:06- That cuts down on our options, doesn't it?- Yeah. - That cuts them right down.

0:35:06 > 0:35:09So, thinking we'd have lots of money to play with

0:35:09 > 0:35:13if we didn't have a mortgage out here isn't really the case, is it?

0:35:13 > 0:35:16That's sobering, that's really sobering.

0:35:16 > 0:35:20The reality of their situation is really starting to hit home.

0:35:20 > 0:35:22That's a total surprise, isn't it?

0:35:22 > 0:35:25- Mm.- We thought we'd be an awful lot better off than that.

0:35:25 > 0:35:28We're not getting the full worth out of our property back home

0:35:28 > 0:35:33because instead of bringing the best part of 680,000,

0:35:33 > 0:35:36690,000 with us, we're bringing, like, 450,000.

0:35:36 > 0:35:37And...

0:35:39 > 0:35:43..you can't do that without something financially hurting.

0:35:43 > 0:35:47We can't say we're going to move around the world if it's not right.

0:35:47 > 0:35:51And it looks like that's a big blow to our Aussie dream at the minute.

0:35:51 > 0:35:53No matter how much they've fallen for Australian living,

0:35:53 > 0:35:57if they can't afford it, that could change everything.

0:35:57 > 0:36:00It's time to vote on the cost of living.

0:36:00 > 0:36:04On the face of it, we're £148 better off in Australia.

0:36:04 > 0:36:08That's based on me getting regular work and having no mortgage.

0:36:08 > 0:36:13Based on those financial decisions, our decision is going to be...

0:36:14 > 0:36:16- UK.- UK.

0:36:16 > 0:36:20If they do move, their financial future could be bleak.

0:36:20 > 0:36:23The dream is slipping from their grasp.

0:36:23 > 0:36:26With decision time fast approaching,

0:36:26 > 0:36:29the Corbetts have to make up their minds.

0:36:29 > 0:36:32Can they really leave behind everyone they know

0:36:32 > 0:36:35on the other side of the world?

0:36:35 > 0:36:39Will seeing messages from home leave their plans in disarray?

0:36:41 > 0:36:45Scott and Victoria want to avoid any chance of upsetting the children,

0:36:45 > 0:36:47so they're staying outside with one of our team,

0:36:47 > 0:36:52whilst mum and dad watch a DVD from their loved ones to remind them of what they'd be leaving behind.

0:36:52 > 0:36:58- See no evil.- Hi, everybody. Hi, Scott. Hi, Vic.- Hi, Vic. Hi, Scott.

0:36:58 > 0:37:00'Scott, my brother,'

0:37:00 > 0:37:03he's a very warm, affectionate person. Um...

0:37:03 > 0:37:08We've obviously had a really lovely, close relationship.

0:37:08 > 0:37:09'Everybody loves him.'

0:37:09 > 0:37:13Everybody's always expounded what a smashing guy he is.

0:37:13 > 0:37:16'He comes over that way, in everything that he does.'

0:37:16 > 0:37:20Since they've been married, I couldn't have asked for a better son-in-law.

0:37:20 > 0:37:23He's done everything for Victoria,

0:37:23 > 0:37:27he's the most brilliant father to the kids, they idolise him.

0:37:27 > 0:37:29- That's nice.- 'And, um, yeah...'

0:37:29 > 0:37:31I've been very lucky.

0:37:31 > 0:37:33'Very lucky.'

0:37:33 > 0:37:36'I don't want them to go.'

0:37:36 > 0:37:38My heart tells me, "No, they shouldn't be going."

0:37:38 > 0:37:41But my head tells me, "Yes, they should be trying it,

0:37:41 > 0:37:44"because that's what they want."

0:37:44 > 0:37:48'We are absolutely devastated. Um, it's a long way. It's too far away.'

0:37:48 > 0:37:51Um, and I worry, most of all, for my parents.

0:37:51 > 0:37:56'Um, with their grandchildren, because they're still very small.'

0:37:56 > 0:37:59Um, and, you know, we will miss them.

0:38:00 > 0:38:02'What I'll miss is...'

0:38:02 > 0:38:06just seeing those blue eyes of Mason's and Indie's smile.

0:38:10 > 0:38:12Yeah.

0:38:12 > 0:38:14And I need them.

0:38:15 > 0:38:19'And there's absolutely a massive, selfish part of me

0:38:19 > 0:38:21'that hopes that they come back and say,'

0:38:21 > 0:38:25"Well, we've tried it, it's fantastic but we're staying here...

0:38:25 > 0:38:27"on the Welsh mountain."

0:38:28 > 0:38:31I mean, I can't even think about them

0:38:31 > 0:38:35getting on a plane at Heathrow or Gatwick, wherever it might be and...

0:38:35 > 0:38:37just waving bye.

0:38:37 > 0:38:38'Bye-bye!'

0:38:41 > 0:38:45If I didn't have the contact with Victoria and Scott and the children...

0:38:48 > 0:38:49..needless to say,

0:38:49 > 0:38:50(I'd miss them.)

0:38:53 > 0:38:57I know that, Scott, Vic, you'll make the right decision.

0:38:57 > 0:39:02Um, we love you, love you lots, and speak to you soon.

0:39:02 > 0:39:03'You know we love you.'

0:39:03 > 0:39:05Our prayers are with you. God bless you.

0:39:05 > 0:39:07'Stay safe.

0:39:07 > 0:39:09'I hope you've seen what you need to see.'

0:39:09 > 0:39:13I just hope that you're going to make the right decision.

0:39:13 > 0:39:15Um, will we miss you?

0:39:15 > 0:39:20Like the air I breathe, as you know.

0:39:20 > 0:39:24'Um... Yeah. Love you.'

0:39:24 > 0:39:25See you soon. Bye.

0:39:30 > 0:39:32- OK?- Yeah.

0:39:33 > 0:39:36- It's hard, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:39:37 > 0:39:41It brings a lump to your throat, straight away, thinking that...

0:39:41 > 0:39:45Just seeing their faces, not even thinking. Just seeing their faces.

0:39:45 > 0:39:48- I'm going to be upset. - You all right?- Yeah.

0:39:51 > 0:39:55Something in my eye, I think. I think it was a fly, I'm not sure.

0:39:55 > 0:39:57Yeah.

0:39:57 > 0:40:01Just makes you think, that's it, it's long term.

0:40:01 > 0:40:05That's a horrible thought that if we came over,

0:40:05 > 0:40:07- that something could happen.- Yeah.

0:40:07 > 0:40:09You know, something terrible could happen

0:40:09 > 0:40:12and we wouldn't see them ever again, you know?

0:40:12 > 0:40:14And we're not down the road.

0:40:14 > 0:40:16You know, you can't just pop back because

0:40:16 > 0:40:20somebody's been rushed into hospital or somebody's not very well or...

0:40:20 > 0:40:22- Yeah.- ..you know.

0:40:22 > 0:40:28I mean, when...when it happened with my dad, the first thing I did was jump in a car.

0:40:28 > 0:40:31I was too late, obviously, because he was dead.

0:40:35 > 0:40:37But if you had that phone call,

0:40:37 > 0:40:39for your mum or dad or my mum or something...

0:40:41 > 0:40:43..you're stuffed, aren't you?

0:40:43 > 0:40:46Considering the worst-case scenarios is a painful,

0:40:46 > 0:40:50but necessary, process if you're seriously considering moving

0:40:50 > 0:40:52over 10,000 miles from loved ones.

0:40:55 > 0:40:58Time has run out for Scott and Victoria.

0:40:58 > 0:41:01Their emotional week has come to an end

0:41:01 > 0:41:05and they have to make the biggest decision of their lives.

0:41:05 > 0:41:07Can they really uproot their children

0:41:07 > 0:41:12and turn their backs on everything they've built up together in the UK?

0:41:13 > 0:41:16The Corbetts have been through the wringer this week.

0:41:16 > 0:41:20They found they wouldn't need a mortgage for their dream home.

0:41:20 > 0:41:23Scott surprised himself by choosing teaching in Australia.

0:41:23 > 0:41:24Australia!

0:41:24 > 0:41:26But worries mounted

0:41:26 > 0:41:30when they found out they'd only just be able to pay their bills.

0:41:30 > 0:41:35Seeing the messages from home reinforced the stark reality of what they'd be giving up.

0:41:35 > 0:41:39They came close to making the move before Victoria's dad died

0:41:39 > 0:41:44but leaving her mum will take every ounce of faith she has in Scott's dream.

0:41:44 > 0:41:47With the future of Mason and Indie to consider,

0:41:47 > 0:41:52Scott and Victoria need to be sure that they really could tear them away to start a new life.

0:41:52 > 0:41:54It's the moment of truth.

0:41:55 > 0:41:57We've had a wonderful week in Australia,

0:41:57 > 0:42:02we've found out some really, really, really useful information.

0:42:02 > 0:42:04It's going to be a really, really tough decision

0:42:04 > 0:42:07but, based on what we've seen, we're going to vote...

0:42:08 > 0:42:10- ..Australia! - Australia!

0:42:10 > 0:42:12Australia!

0:42:14 > 0:42:19- I didn't think you were going to! I think you were going to have a wobble.- No. No wobbles.

0:42:19 > 0:42:20No wobbles.

0:42:21 > 0:42:25Am I amazed that we're both thinking Australia? Er, no.

0:42:25 > 0:42:29It's... I'm guessing that it's always been at the back of my mind,

0:42:29 > 0:42:34even though I'm a bit of a scaredy-cat and it's really...

0:42:34 > 0:42:37I'm just excited that we're both thinking the same thing.

0:42:37 > 0:42:40It really has given us the opportunity to figure out

0:42:40 > 0:42:45whether this is the right decision and I really do think it is the right decision for our family.

0:42:45 > 0:42:47It's going to be hard...

0:42:47 > 0:42:50but I think it'll be good.

0:42:50 > 0:42:53- Definitely.- Definitely the right thing to do.- Yeah!

0:42:55 > 0:42:57Despite everything she's been through,

0:42:57 > 0:43:00Victoria has been convinced.

0:43:00 > 0:43:02No doubt there'll be more tears to come

0:43:02 > 0:43:09but it looks like Scott's dream of a new life in Australia really will become a reality.
