0:00:03 > 0:00:06Could you move your family half way across the world

0:00:06 > 0:00:11in search of a new life, if you hadn't even been there on holiday?

0:00:11 > 0:00:15Today we give a family a first taste of Australia

0:00:15 > 0:00:17which could change their lives for ever.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20Bev and Martyn are determined to find a better life

0:00:20 > 0:00:25but with an age limit for the visa, time is against them.

0:00:25 > 0:00:29It's now or never, basically. If we don't do it now, then we never will.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32They have a fight on their hands to convince their son.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34I don't wanna live here.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36Wouldn't you like to live in a hot country?

0:00:36 > 0:00:38I've only just moved to a new school.

0:00:38 > 0:00:42And the guilt of taking him away from his grandparents is unbearable.

0:00:42 > 0:00:45He'd come to them like a fabulous miracle

0:00:45 > 0:00:48and then we're just ripping him away from them.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51That does make me feel really, really guilty.

0:00:53 > 0:00:57To find their dream they'll have to give up everything they know

0:00:57 > 0:01:00to go where they're Wanted Down Under.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27With its hot climate and over 10,000 beaches,

0:01:27 > 0:01:29Australia is a popular destination for Brits.

0:01:29 > 0:01:34Over 35,000 people from the UK emigrate every year.

0:01:34 > 0:01:40But not everyone finds their dream as nearly a third return to the UK.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43We're giving one family the chance to see if a new start in Australia

0:01:43 > 0:01:47really could give them a better quality of life.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50They've got just one week to find out.

0:01:54 > 0:01:58General Practice nurse, Bev, and self-employed tiler, Martyn,

0:01:58 > 0:02:01live in Aberdare with their only son, Alex, aged nine.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06They love their community in South Wales

0:02:06 > 0:02:10and have a strong support network with families around the corner.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13We are typical Valley people. OK?

0:02:13 > 0:02:18We are so traditionally Welsh and we just love Wales.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22They want more than life in Aberdare can offer.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25- It's work, work, work.- In the evenings, we don't do nothing.

0:02:25 > 0:02:28Through the winter, there's nothing much to do.

0:02:28 > 0:02:31- Nah.- It would be just nice to go for a walk and chill out after work.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34- That's right.- And do other things, basically.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37Time is running out to realise their dream.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40We've gotta go soon because of our ages.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43So it's now or never, basically.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45If we don't do it now, then we're never going to.

0:02:45 > 0:02:46- Hello.- Hi, Mam.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49He came close to making the move before

0:02:49 > 0:02:52until there was a tragedy in the family.

0:02:52 > 0:02:56About two and a half, three years ago, we were set to go.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59Unfortunately, my dad passed away. So...

0:02:59 > 0:03:01- It just sort of ground to a halt, didn't it?

0:03:01 > 0:03:05Three years later and Alex is older and more settled.

0:03:05 > 0:03:09He's very concerned about starting all over again.

0:03:09 > 0:03:12I've nice friends and I just moved to a new school.

0:03:12 > 0:03:14So it'd be hard to leave all my friends.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17But he's not totally against the idea.

0:03:17 > 0:03:20When my mum and dad first mentioned about Australia

0:03:20 > 0:03:25I was saying, "I ain't going to Australia."

0:03:25 > 0:03:29And then it starting pouring down and I was freezing

0:03:29 > 0:03:31and I said to my mam,

0:03:31 > 0:03:35"I've changed my mind, I wanna go to Australia cos it's freezing."

0:03:36 > 0:03:39In the UK, Bev is studying for her Masters degree

0:03:39 > 0:03:44to become a highly qualified nurse, able to prescribe independently.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47But the system in Australia is very different

0:03:47 > 0:03:50- and this qualification may not even be accepted there.

0:03:50 > 0:03:55Unfortunately, it'd be difficult to get my qualifications recognised

0:03:55 > 0:03:57by, erm, the Nursing Board.

0:03:57 > 0:04:01It's not just getting a job that's very worrying for Bev.

0:04:01 > 0:04:06She's also scared about leaving family behind in Wales.

0:04:06 > 0:04:11I can't even speak about my parents. I'd miss them...

0:04:11 > 0:04:13so much.

0:04:16 > 0:04:18Oh, I'm sorry.

0:04:20 > 0:04:23We just see each other all the time, and...

0:04:24 > 0:04:27I know this is causing so much heartache to my mother

0:04:27 > 0:04:31but she's trying to be...and father, they're trying to be brave.

0:04:31 > 0:04:35For the Evans, finding the right lifestyle and house is vital.

0:04:35 > 0:04:39But if they can't afford it, their dreams will be shattered.

0:04:39 > 0:04:42The clock is ticking because of Bev's age.

0:04:42 > 0:04:44- So it's now or never.

0:04:45 > 0:04:49It's essential that Bev, Martyn and Alex

0:04:49 > 0:04:51find out if they've been viewing Australia

0:04:51 > 0:04:54through rose-tinted glasses.

0:04:54 > 0:04:58Leaving their parents behind will be heart-breaking,

0:04:58 > 0:05:01but with time running out for Bev to apply for her visa,

0:05:01 > 0:05:03it's now or never.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06They have one week to decide.

0:05:07 > 0:05:11Bev's nursing qualifications would enable them to get a visa

0:05:11 > 0:05:13and her skills are in demand all over the country.

0:05:13 > 0:05:16But they need to find the right place to call home.

0:05:19 > 0:05:23We could send them to the unique but isolated city of Darwin.

0:05:23 > 0:05:27But they'll have to be ready for some serious heat.

0:05:27 > 0:05:31The average summer temperatures hit 33 degrees.

0:05:31 > 0:05:35And don't be fooled, moving to Darwin isn't a cheap option

0:05:35 > 0:05:38with property prices only a little less than Sydney

0:05:38 > 0:05:43at an average of £315,000.

0:05:43 > 0:05:48Alternatively, we could let them try life in Adelaide.

0:05:48 > 0:05:50Situated on the southern Australian coast,

0:05:50 > 0:05:54Adelaide is a whole different prospect.

0:05:54 > 0:05:57With just over a million residents, it boasts a small-city-feel

0:05:57 > 0:06:02and Mediterranean climate, to attract over 2,000 Brits a year.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05Property prices are very reasonable too

0:06:05 > 0:06:08at an average of £255,000.

0:06:08 > 0:06:12But it's not the backwater town you might expect

0:06:12 > 0:06:17with vibrant markets, festivals and beach life on offer.

0:06:19 > 0:06:22Or perhaps we could send them to Brisbane.

0:06:22 > 0:06:27Property prices are reasonable at an average of £270,000.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30Bev and Martyn might just be able to afford

0:06:30 > 0:06:34one of their famous Queenslander-style homes.

0:06:34 > 0:06:37With over 25 percent of the population born overseas,

0:06:37 > 0:06:40the Evans wouldn't feel alone as new residents.

0:06:40 > 0:06:44But they'd like to get away from the regular downpours in Wales,

0:06:44 > 0:06:50so having wet tropical summers and over 1,200mm of rain a year

0:06:50 > 0:06:52would not be ideal.

0:06:52 > 0:06:56Three good options there, but where should they go?

0:06:56 > 0:07:01We decided Adelaide had the edge over the other two possibilities

0:07:01 > 0:07:04and would offer the Evans family what they were looking for.

0:07:05 > 0:07:10Over the week, the Evans sample all aspects of life Down Under.

0:07:10 > 0:07:13They'll find out if Australian properties

0:07:13 > 0:07:16match up to their ideal house back home.

0:07:16 > 0:07:19Bev and Martyn get to test out the jobs on offer.

0:07:21 > 0:07:24And Alex gets to see if he can make friends

0:07:24 > 0:07:26at an Aussie Rules football training session.

0:07:29 > 0:07:33But haunted by thoughts of leaving behind their family in South Wales,

0:07:33 > 0:07:36Bev and Martyn need to know they really could leave.

0:07:36 > 0:07:40And it will be no small challenge to persuade Alex.

0:07:42 > 0:07:46It's been a gruelling 22-hour flight for the Evans family,

0:07:46 > 0:07:49- covering 10,500 miles.

0:07:51 > 0:07:54They're a long way from their loved ones in Aberdare

0:07:54 > 0:07:56so they need to know life in Adelaide

0:07:56 > 0:07:59would be worth the pain of leaving family behind.

0:08:00 > 0:08:03After the longest journey of their lives,

0:08:03 > 0:08:06they look surprisingly sprightly.

0:08:06 > 0:08:10- A really good flight. Not as bad as we thought, was it, at all?- No.

0:08:10 > 0:08:15Er, really nice. Nice bit of sleep. Arrived fresh and ready to go.

0:08:15 > 0:08:20The outcome is going to depend on how Alex takes to Australia.

0:08:20 > 0:08:23I wanna see a crocodile and a shark.

0:08:23 > 0:08:25Wanna see a bit of wildlife, don't you?

0:08:26 > 0:08:30Bev's worries about her job prospects are on her mind.

0:08:30 > 0:08:34I'm most nervous, I think, this week about my work experience

0:08:34 > 0:08:39that I'm going to get, just to see if the work that they do here

0:08:39 > 0:08:42is suitable and compatible to what I do at home.

0:08:42 > 0:08:47It's vital they find out if Adelaide really could offer them

0:08:47 > 0:08:49everything they dream of.

0:08:49 > 0:08:52They've all got concerns about the move,

0:08:52 > 0:08:57but if they can't persuade Alex he could have a future here,

0:08:57 > 0:09:00- they'll have some real problems ahead.

0:09:00 > 0:09:03It doesn't take long until they're reminded

0:09:03 > 0:09:05they're a long way from Aberdare.

0:09:05 > 0:09:07See that.

0:09:07 > 0:09:09I know they say you can see dolphins,

0:09:09 > 0:09:13- but I never thought we'd see them here.- Not on your doorstep.

0:09:13 > 0:09:16- Oh, my word, that was fab. - Would have been nice...

0:09:16 > 0:09:21Their base for the week is a first test for Australian life

0:09:21 > 0:09:23especially for Alex.

0:09:23 > 0:09:28- Look at that flat-screen TV. - Oh, wow!

0:09:28 > 0:09:29Pool.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32- Oh, this is lovely, innit? - Yeah, isn't it?

0:09:32 > 0:09:36Nice view to wake up to in the morning. Look at that, Alex.

0:09:36 > 0:09:39- Shall we go upstairs and have a look?- Yeah!- Yeah!- Lovely.

0:09:42 > 0:09:46- Oh-ho-ho.- Guess whose room this isn't?- Mine!

0:09:46 > 0:09:48- No, you can't.- I don't think, so.

0:09:48 > 0:09:50You haven't a Bob Hope of having this room.

0:09:50 > 0:09:53They're used to the peace and quiet of Aberdare.

0:09:53 > 0:09:55The bustle of Adelaide might be a problem.

0:09:55 > 0:09:58But the view's impressive.

0:09:58 > 0:10:01Imagine living somewhere like this, waking up to this view.

0:10:01 > 0:10:06- I thought our view was good.- I could wake up with this every day.

0:10:07 > 0:10:09Dolphin-spotting for a job.

0:10:09 > 0:10:10- That's not a bad idea.- No.

0:10:10 > 0:10:11HE LAUGHS

0:10:11 > 0:10:14Start a little business. Get a boat, dolphin-watching.

0:10:15 > 0:10:17Shark-fin hour.

0:10:17 > 0:10:21It's vital the Evans find out if they can afford this move.

0:10:21 > 0:10:24That would be a definite no-no.

0:10:24 > 0:10:27If we couldn't afford the lifestyle we want,

0:10:27 > 0:10:31then it defeats the whole object, so I don't think we would do it.

0:10:31 > 0:10:35The other thing would be actually making that move and step

0:10:35 > 0:10:39to leaving my parents, that's the hardest for me.

0:10:39 > 0:10:42And they're under serious time pressure.

0:10:42 > 0:10:45If they leave the decision to move too long, it'll be too late.

0:10:45 > 0:10:51Age is not on my side. We've got to be here before I'm 45.

0:10:51 > 0:10:52It takes time to get your visa,

0:10:52 > 0:10:57so we really need to start the ball rolling, if we decide to come.

0:10:57 > 0:10:59- Let's see.. - Won't be another chance.

0:10:59 > 0:11:02No. Let's see if what we've dreamt of

0:11:02 > 0:11:05- is actually going to be a reality this week.- Yeah.- Yeah.

0:11:05 > 0:11:08- We're looking forward to it. - Very much.- Bring it on.

0:11:08 > 0:11:09HE LAUGHS

0:11:09 > 0:11:12Financial worries are huge, but now they're here,

0:11:12 > 0:11:17the heartache of leaving loved ones has become a stark reality.

0:11:17 > 0:11:19It's going to be a tough week.

0:11:22 > 0:11:27In the UK, the Evans live in a four-bedroom detached new-build.

0:11:27 > 0:11:31They love their house and their community

0:11:31 > 0:11:34so a new home in Australia has a lot to live up to.

0:11:35 > 0:11:37On the edge of the Brecon Beacons,

0:11:37 > 0:11:41they enjoy fantastic views over the valleys.

0:11:41 > 0:11:46Alex has room for all his toys and he knows the kind of house he wants.

0:11:48 > 0:11:51If we go out there I wanna a nice house, as well.

0:11:51 > 0:11:57And pool...table, a proper one and, or just any

0:11:57 > 0:11:59and a swimming pool.

0:11:59 > 0:12:03They're determined to have an extra room for loved ones to stay.

0:12:03 > 0:12:07But to afford it, they'll need every penny of the £235,000

0:12:07 > 0:12:10they hope their home is worth.

0:12:10 > 0:12:13They love their house in Aberdare,

0:12:13 > 0:12:18so it's vital they find the perfect place to call home in Australia.

0:12:18 > 0:12:21They've got several options.

0:12:21 > 0:12:23Adelaide, the capital of South Australia

0:12:23 > 0:12:26is the economic and cultural centre of the area.

0:12:26 > 0:12:30Property in the city, itself, can be hugely expensive

0:12:30 > 0:12:34but there are more affordable alternatives in North Adelaide.

0:12:34 > 0:12:40At £265,000 this two-bedroom property has plenty of period charm

0:12:40 > 0:12:44but if they want more space, they'll have to break the bank

0:12:44 > 0:12:46and spend considerably more.

0:12:48 > 0:12:51Another option would be suburbs like Belair

0:12:51 > 0:12:55which offer stunning country scenery right on the doorstep.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58There are some truly impressive properties available

0:12:58 > 0:13:03like this stunning three-bedroom house which costs £330,000

0:13:03 > 0:13:06and has a huge living area overlooking the valley.

0:13:06 > 0:13:10But it's a 30-minute drive to the coast,

0:13:10 > 0:13:13so it wouldn't give them the beach life they've been dreaming of.

0:13:14 > 0:13:17For the family, the beach is a key factor.

0:13:17 > 0:13:21The further south out of Adelaide, the more they'll get

0:13:21 > 0:13:22for their money.

0:13:22 > 0:13:25This £290,000 home in Christies Beach

0:13:25 > 0:13:28offers a stunning sea view, three bedrooms

0:13:28 > 0:13:32and a large open-plan living space.

0:13:32 > 0:13:35With the beach a short walk away, they wouldn't even need a pool.

0:13:39 > 0:13:41Weighing up everything they're looking for

0:13:41 > 0:13:47we decided to show them three properties near the beach.

0:13:47 > 0:13:51Here, the lifestyle they dream of, would be a stone's throw away.

0:13:51 > 0:13:54Property 1 will need to set the standard high

0:13:54 > 0:13:57Located in Moana,

0:13:57 > 0:13:59it's less than an hour from Adelaide.

0:13:59 > 0:14:03Best of all, there's a stunning beach at the end of the road.

0:14:04 > 0:14:06As a three-bed, with open-plan living space,

0:14:06 > 0:14:10a veranda and pool room, it might persuade Alex

0:14:10 > 0:14:14that this move wouldn't be too bad after all.

0:14:14 > 0:14:17Estate agent, Julian Adams, is on hand to show them in.

0:14:17 > 0:14:18Hi, I'm Martyn.

0:14:18 > 0:14:22First impressions are key.

0:14:22 > 0:14:25- Ahh.- Nice, isn't it? - Oh, this is lovely, here.

0:14:26 > 0:14:29- And cool.- It's a nice living area. - Definitely.

0:14:29 > 0:14:32You could get plenty of furniture in here.

0:14:32 > 0:14:36The rest of the living space needs to meet their expectations.

0:14:36 > 0:14:39- That's a nice sized kitchen, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:14:39 > 0:14:41It's plenty big enough.

0:14:41 > 0:14:45- Probably want to get it re-tiled a little bit.- Little job.

0:14:45 > 0:14:46Space is a key requirement,

0:14:46 > 0:14:50but their budget may not stretch to the size of rooms they want.

0:14:50 > 0:14:52It's imperative we have a spare room.

0:14:52 > 0:14:56- Do you think you'd get all your toys in here?- Yeah.

0:14:56 > 0:14:59Or would it be better as a guest room? It's something we want.

0:14:59 > 0:15:01See what the other size is.

0:15:01 > 0:15:04- And change the colour scheme - All right? See what else is here.

0:15:04 > 0:15:06With one other similar bedroom,

0:15:06 > 0:15:09the master needs to be something special.

0:15:09 > 0:15:14- That's a nice airy room. Isn't it? - Yeah.

0:15:14 > 0:15:18- Is ours bigger?- I think it's the same, it's a king-size.

0:15:18 > 0:15:21They haven't been wowed yet.

0:15:21 > 0:15:24But if they're going to give up their ideal home in Aberdare,

0:15:24 > 0:15:26they need to be.

0:15:26 > 0:15:29- My word!- What? - Look what's over there.

0:15:29 > 0:15:33That could be our other bedroom.

0:15:33 > 0:15:36- Oh, my gosh, this is gorgeous. - Lovely, isn't it?

0:15:36 > 0:15:39- Now that makes a big difference. - Alex, look over there.

0:15:43 > 0:15:44Cool.

0:15:44 > 0:15:49- Ahh.- Come and see what's in here. - This is lovely, innit?

0:15:49 > 0:15:53I'm just really flabbergasted at the size of it all.

0:15:53 > 0:15:57- Can we live here, if we wanna? - We could if we wanted, yeah.

0:15:57 > 0:15:59I wanna pool, I do.

0:15:59 > 0:16:02Don't need a pool, sea's at the end of the street.

0:16:02 > 0:16:03So no pool needed.

0:16:04 > 0:16:06Oh, my gosh.

0:16:08 > 0:16:10This house is gorgeous.

0:16:12 > 0:16:17This is an enticer away from Aberdare, isn't it? From Wales.

0:16:17 > 0:16:20- I wanna live in this house. - It certainly suits you, Al.

0:16:20 > 0:16:22THEY LAUGH

0:16:22 > 0:16:25Even Alex has fallen for the fantastic outside space.

0:16:25 > 0:16:28But it's not quite the full package.

0:16:28 > 0:16:31Property 2 needs to raise the bar.

0:16:34 > 0:16:37Located just a couple of streets away in Moana,

0:16:37 > 0:16:41it's another three-bed with a huge open-plan living space

0:16:41 > 0:16:43and large garden.

0:16:43 > 0:16:46Although not finished to the standard of Property 1

0:16:46 > 0:16:51at £208,000, they'd have money left over to make it their own

0:16:51 > 0:16:52and maybe get that pool.

0:16:54 > 0:16:56There's a friendly reception.

0:16:56 > 0:16:59- Hello.- Is it theirs?

0:16:59 > 0:17:01- Oh, this is... Oh, wow! - This is lovely.

0:17:02 > 0:17:03It's a lovely floor.

0:17:03 > 0:17:06I'm quite surprised.

0:17:06 > 0:17:11- I really am. Really high ceilings. - Lighter compared to the last one.

0:17:11 > 0:17:14- This one's a lot lighter.- Yeah.

0:17:14 > 0:17:20This is nice. Bit small. I prefer the kitchen in the last house.

0:17:20 > 0:17:25This is slightly dated.

0:17:25 > 0:17:28At this price, they'd have £20,000 left over to change the kitchen

0:17:28 > 0:17:31if they wanted to.

0:17:31 > 0:17:34But this house wouldn't be worth the investment,

0:17:34 > 0:17:37if the bedrooms don't meet their high standards.

0:17:37 > 0:17:38It's too small.

0:17:38 > 0:17:43- It couldn't be a guest room, it's too small.- No.

0:17:43 > 0:17:47- You could put a single bed in... - What do you want a single bed for?

0:17:47 > 0:17:51It doesn't seem there's anything to redeem this house

0:17:51 > 0:17:54and Bev and Martyn have only one word to describe it.

0:17:54 > 0:17:57- Small.- Just that little bit too small.

0:17:57 > 0:18:01- Too small.- Again it's small. - It's too small.

0:18:01 > 0:18:03Oh, walk-in wardrobe.

0:18:03 > 0:18:05It's a disappointment.

0:18:05 > 0:18:09They just can't get the space they'd hoped for in their budget.

0:18:10 > 0:18:13The first house wasn't perfect, but is still setting the standard.

0:18:13 > 0:18:16Property 2 was a huge disappointment.

0:18:16 > 0:18:18It's down to Property 3.

0:18:18 > 0:18:21If they can't find the right house, the deal could be off.

0:18:23 > 0:18:25Located 15 miles north in the district of Marion,

0:18:25 > 0:18:30this house is only a 25-minute drive to the centre of town.

0:18:32 > 0:18:35On the market for £260,000,

0:18:35 > 0:18:38this three-bed in a quiet cul-de-sac has one huge advantage

0:18:38 > 0:18:40over the other houses.

0:18:40 > 0:18:42A pool.

0:18:42 > 0:18:45This could finally win them over.

0:18:45 > 0:18:49- Have a look and if you've got any questions, please ask.- Thank you.

0:18:49 > 0:18:54Oh, I thought it would be bigger than this.

0:18:54 > 0:19:00- It's not...as big as I thought. - I just expected it to be bigger.

0:19:00 > 0:19:02For a living area.

0:19:02 > 0:19:06This snug kitchen probably won't help to convince them.

0:19:06 > 0:19:08- It's small again though, isn't it? - Yeah.

0:19:08 > 0:19:10Smallest one of the three, isn't it?

0:19:10 > 0:19:15- Yeah, probably this makes it look a bit bigger cos it's open.- Yeah.

0:19:15 > 0:19:17- Shall we got through?- Yeah.

0:19:17 > 0:19:19It's not looking good.

0:19:19 > 0:19:23- Oh.- It's a little bit small again, really, isn't it?

0:19:23 > 0:19:25Er, yeah.

0:19:25 > 0:19:27It couldn't be a guest bedroom, could it?

0:19:28 > 0:19:30- A struggle to keep this long term for Alex.- Yeah.

0:19:30 > 0:19:36Again, not enough room for Alex. It's becoming a common theme.

0:19:36 > 0:19:39The master bedroom needs to redeem this house.

0:19:39 > 0:19:41Oh, now, this is nice.

0:19:41 > 0:19:44- The size as well.- Oh, yeah. These lovely floors.

0:19:44 > 0:19:47- The floors are lovely. Really nice. - That's a nice bed, too.

0:19:47 > 0:19:50The master has impressed,

0:19:50 > 0:19:53but bedroom 3, it's a big disappointment.

0:19:53 > 0:19:56- It's not as big as Alex's back home, is it?- No.

0:19:56 > 0:19:57- No.- So...

0:19:57 > 0:20:00They're all struggling to see themselves here

0:20:00 > 0:20:04but there's a bigger problem to overcome.

0:20:04 > 0:20:08- I don't wanna live here.- Wouldn't you like to live in a hot country?

0:20:08 > 0:20:12- I've only just moved to a new school.- That's true.- Mmm.

0:20:12 > 0:20:16That's true. That's something we'll have to think of, isn't it?

0:20:16 > 0:20:19- Yeah. It's all our decisions, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:20:19 > 0:20:21All of us have got to decide, haven't we?

0:20:21 > 0:20:26If Alex can't be convinced, their dreams might end in disappointment.

0:20:26 > 0:20:28It sounds like he's made up his mind

0:20:28 > 0:20:32but there's one thing that might convince him.

0:20:33 > 0:20:35- Oh, that's nice. - Oh, they've got a pool.

0:20:35 > 0:20:39- That's something a bit special, isn't it?- Yeah.- Yeah.

0:20:39 > 0:20:41- I wanna live here. - You're gonna live here now.

0:20:41 > 0:20:42SHE LAUGHS

0:20:42 > 0:20:44That was on your list.

0:20:44 > 0:20:49- You didn't want to come to Australia.- Changed your mind a bit.

0:20:49 > 0:20:52It's what Alex was hoping for.

0:20:52 > 0:20:54But Bev and Martyn, they're not impressed.

0:20:54 > 0:20:59Would you be prepared to have a smaller house just for a pool?

0:20:59 > 0:21:03To be honest, having the extra room is more important to me.

0:21:03 > 0:21:08I want to house my parents, your mother when they come over.

0:21:08 > 0:21:11The pool hasn't caused a splash,

0:21:11 > 0:21:14but there's one last chance to win them over.

0:21:14 > 0:21:17A huge playroom with an en-suite bathroom.

0:21:17 > 0:21:22Oh, now. This could be a guest bedsit!

0:21:22 > 0:21:23This makes a difference.

0:21:23 > 0:21:26We can certainly turn it into a bedroom.

0:21:26 > 0:21:29You could. That changes the whole dynamics of the house.

0:21:29 > 0:21:32Although it's quite small, we thought.

0:21:32 > 0:21:36This shines a completely different light on it and opens it right up.

0:21:36 > 0:21:38Yeah. Definitely.

0:21:38 > 0:21:40Tours over.

0:21:40 > 0:21:43They like the outdoor area of Property 1.

0:21:45 > 0:21:48- But discovered with their budget they would struggle

0:21:48 > 0:21:50- to get the space they dream of.

0:21:50 > 0:21:54Even the pool didn't win Martyn and Bev over.

0:21:55 > 0:21:57Australian houses need to be something special

0:21:57 > 0:22:01to match up to the house the Evans love in Aberdare.

0:22:01 > 0:22:03It's decision time on property.

0:22:05 > 0:22:08Based on the houses we've seen today,

0:22:08 > 0:22:09our vote has gotta be...

0:22:10 > 0:22:13- UK.- UK.- I don't know.

0:22:13 > 0:22:16I'm surprised at that. You said you didn't want to come!

0:22:16 > 0:22:18I didn't know.

0:22:18 > 0:22:20They've got a pool.

0:22:20 > 0:22:22With no votes for Australia,

0:22:22 > 0:22:25their trial week has got off to the worst possible start.

0:22:26 > 0:22:31They need to turn things around if this move is going to happen.

0:22:34 > 0:22:39It will take some more searching to find the perfect home.

0:22:39 > 0:22:43But if Martyn and Bev don't both find good jobs with decent salaries

0:22:43 > 0:22:48they won't be able to afford it and the whole move could be off.

0:22:48 > 0:22:52Back in the UK, Bev works as a General Practice nurse

0:22:52 > 0:22:55earning a wage of £33,000.

0:22:55 > 0:22:58She's determined to move up in her career

0:22:58 > 0:23:00so she's spent the last two years studying

0:23:00 > 0:23:03- to improve her qualifications.

0:23:03 > 0:23:06By UK standards, she'll be highly skilled,

0:23:06 > 0:23:10but would she be overqualified to work in Australia?

0:23:10 > 0:23:13I want to make sure I get the right job when I'm out there.

0:23:13 > 0:23:18And General Practice in South Australia is very much like we were

0:23:18 > 0:23:19about ten years ago.

0:23:20 > 0:23:23We've arranged for Bev to meet Denise Mackenzie

0:23:23 > 0:23:25who runs nursing training

0:23:25 > 0:23:28and has agreed to give Bev a taste of teaching

0:23:28 > 0:23:30to see if would be right for her.

0:23:31 > 0:23:35There's a huge amount riding on this and Bev's under pressure.

0:23:35 > 0:23:38I feel really apprehensive about this and nervous.

0:23:38 > 0:23:42I feel a bit out of my comfort zone doing a presentation.

0:23:42 > 0:23:46It's a massive factor in our decision

0:23:46 > 0:23:49whether to come to Australia, whether I can get the right job.

0:23:49 > 0:23:51- I've got something... - Hi.

0:23:51 > 0:23:56It's time to find out if nursing in Adelaide really would suit Bev

0:23:56 > 0:23:59and allow her to use her qualifications.

0:23:59 > 0:24:01She's straight in at the deep end.

0:24:01 > 0:24:02SHE SIGHS NERVOUSLY

0:24:02 > 0:24:06OK, I'm a nurse practitioner in the Primary Care support unit,

0:24:06 > 0:24:07like Denise said...

0:24:07 > 0:24:12It's a nervous start. There's a huge amount riding on this

0:24:12 > 0:24:13and Bev has a lot to prove.

0:24:15 > 0:24:18Whilst one of our team looks after Alex,

0:24:18 > 0:24:22Martyn is on his way to find out his employment options.

0:24:22 > 0:24:25He's determined they wouldn't just be moving here to work.

0:24:27 > 0:24:29If the wages aren't there, the lifestyle's not

0:24:29 > 0:24:33then obviously there's not a lot of point us moving to Australia

0:24:33 > 0:24:37because we're not going to achieve what we want.

0:24:37 > 0:24:40So it's vital that he finds out exactly how much

0:24:40 > 0:24:43he could contribute to their finances.

0:24:43 > 0:24:47Back at the centre, Bev is coming to the end of her lecture.

0:24:47 > 0:24:5190 percent of these deaths could have been avoided

0:24:51 > 0:24:56if these patients had had proper management plans and support

0:24:56 > 0:24:58with appropriate treatments.

0:24:58 > 0:25:01And she looks relieved it's over.

0:25:01 > 0:25:02And that's it.

0:25:02 > 0:25:03SHE LAUGHS NERVOUSLY

0:25:05 > 0:25:08But Bev's experience isn't quite over yet.

0:25:08 > 0:25:12She would want to keep the practical side of nursing going.

0:25:12 > 0:25:15She's off to a training centre to see if they do things differently

0:25:15 > 0:25:16in Oz.

0:25:18 > 0:25:22It's time for Martyn to get some answers.

0:25:22 > 0:25:24We've arranged for him to meet David Powell,

0:25:24 > 0:25:26a Brit who made the move himself

0:25:26 > 0:25:29and now has a successful tiling business.

0:25:29 > 0:25:31David puts him straight to work,

0:25:31 > 0:25:33but Martyn has some important questions.

0:25:34 > 0:25:37What's your working day like, hours-wise?

0:25:37 > 0:25:40It really depends on where you're working.

0:25:40 > 0:25:45- My week would probably be at least a 40-hour week.- Yeah.

0:25:45 > 0:25:47We tend to do an eight-hour day.

0:25:47 > 0:25:49That's about the same as he works in the UK

0:25:49 > 0:25:52but Martyn still has some concerns.

0:25:52 > 0:25:55What are your expectations? Have you got any reservations?

0:25:55 > 0:25:58- It'd be finding work cos coming here as new...- Yeah.

0:25:58 > 0:26:02- You've been here 22 years, you had to build up a reputation.- Yeah.

0:26:02 > 0:26:07So that is a bit nerve-wracking, leaving everything behind.

0:26:07 > 0:26:10And wages-wise, it depends what you can earn here.

0:26:10 > 0:26:14- You'd probably get between 60-70,000 a year.- Right.

0:26:16 > 0:26:21- That would work out between £35,000 to £37,000.- Maybe a bit over that.

0:26:21 > 0:26:25That's a very good wage. More than I'd be earning in the UK.

0:26:26 > 0:26:30Working for himself, Martyn could earn up to £36,000 a year.

0:26:30 > 0:26:36It's a fantastic result and has put his mind at ease.

0:26:36 > 0:26:41Over in the centre, it's vital Bev finds the right role for her.

0:26:41 > 0:26:43Felicity Steer is waiting to meet her.

0:26:43 > 0:26:45- Beverly.- Hi, I'm Felicity.- Hi.

0:26:45 > 0:26:49- I'll get someone to come in and we can do a mock ECG- . OK.

0:26:49 > 0:26:52And that will give us a chance to see what you actually do

0:26:52 > 0:26:55and see how it relates to the way we do it over here.

0:26:55 > 0:26:59Ian is going to be their test patient.

0:26:59 > 0:27:01OK, you just have a moment there.

0:27:03 > 0:27:07Just breathe normally and it will be over in a sec.

0:27:07 > 0:27:10- So, I'm not going to jump or feel...- You wont feel anything.

0:27:10 > 0:27:13No electric waves are going to go through you, I promise.

0:27:15 > 0:27:17- There's your ECG.

0:27:17 > 0:27:19And a fine looking ECG it is too.

0:27:22 > 0:27:24It's a positive result for Ian,

0:27:24 > 0:27:28but Bev's worried about being able to use her advanced training.

0:27:28 > 0:27:31- I work more as a nurse practitioner now.- Yeah.

0:27:31 > 0:27:36But I would like to incorporate the academic side

0:27:36 > 0:27:38with, erm, the clinical skills.

0:27:38 > 0:27:45Working in a general practice a few days as a nurse practitioner?

0:27:45 > 0:27:50- And then working as a mentor? - That would be absolutely fabulous.

0:27:50 > 0:27:52To keep on the nurse practitioner role.

0:27:52 > 0:27:55But I wasn't sure whether I could do that.

0:27:55 > 0:27:57Well, hopefully that will be coming through.

0:27:57 > 0:28:01It will be possible for Bev to combine

0:28:01 > 0:28:04teaching and practical roles, but not quite yet.

0:28:04 > 0:28:08Disappointingly, she'll have to wait until new legislation comes in.

0:28:08 > 0:28:11Denise arrives and it's time to get down to the nitty-gritty.

0:28:11 > 0:28:15What, erm, could a nurse expect to earn?

0:28:15 > 0:28:21- Roughly, I think around 68. Is that?- It's about the 68 mark.

0:28:21 > 0:28:2868,000 is just under £40,000, far more than Bev earns in the UK.

0:28:28 > 0:28:30Thank you very much for your time.

0:28:30 > 0:28:33The wages are better, but Bev's Masters qualification

0:28:33 > 0:28:35wouldn't be of use.

0:28:35 > 0:28:38If she moved, the last two years of study would have been wasted.

0:28:38 > 0:28:42This could have a serious effect on her decision.

0:28:42 > 0:28:47- How did it go?- OK. I had an interesting afternoon.

0:28:47 > 0:28:53I don't think I'd be able to get my advanced status recognised yet.

0:28:54 > 0:28:55It'd be taking a backward step.

0:28:55 > 0:29:00- It's a big decision, isn't it? - Yeah.- It's an important one.

0:29:00 > 0:29:02- But wages were definitely better. - As well.

0:29:02 > 0:29:07- It's a positive, I suppose, on both sides, really- . Yeah.

0:29:07 > 0:29:09Which way will they vote?

0:29:09 > 0:29:14My role as a nurse practitioner wouldn't be recognised here yet

0:29:14 > 0:29:17and I think it would be a shame to take a step back.

0:29:17 > 0:29:20And for that purpose, I'm gonna vote for...

0:29:21 > 0:29:22..UK

0:29:22 > 0:29:26Based on the amount of work that's here in Australia,

0:29:26 > 0:29:28and the wages, I'm gonna have to vote...

0:29:28 > 0:29:30..Australia.

0:29:30 > 0:29:34They're split down the middle and it's a huge blow to their plans.

0:29:34 > 0:29:37Despite the wages, Bev is worried about taking a step backwards.

0:29:37 > 0:29:41Things will need to turn around, if they're to rekindle their dream.

0:29:43 > 0:29:47The Evans family have had a mixed experience so far.

0:29:47 > 0:29:51Viewing three houses, they were disappointed with what was on offer.

0:29:51 > 0:29:54Martyn found out that he could earn a good wage,

0:29:54 > 0:29:59but Bev wouldn't be able to use her qualifications immediately.

0:29:59 > 0:30:02It's vital they persuade Alex he'll be happy here

0:30:02 > 0:30:05and soon it will be time to face the music.

0:30:05 > 0:30:09They need to be confident they could leave their families behind

0:30:09 > 0:30:12and move to the other side of the world

0:30:12 > 0:30:14in search of a better life.

0:30:18 > 0:30:21So they would both be able to find work,

0:30:21 > 0:30:25but would their finances take the hit?

0:30:25 > 0:30:28To get the lifestyle they dream of in Australia

0:30:28 > 0:30:33it's vital they get maximum value for their property in South Wales.

0:30:33 > 0:30:35The Evans love their four-bed home

0:30:35 > 0:30:40and the fantastic views it offers over the Welsh countryside.

0:30:40 > 0:30:43They bought at the height of the property boom,

0:30:43 > 0:30:48but hope its still worth somewhere near £235,000.

0:30:48 > 0:30:53- We sent two estate agents to give them an accurate valuation.

0:30:53 > 0:30:56Good sized living room, nicely decorated,

0:30:56 > 0:30:58- the fire is a nice focal point.

0:30:58 > 0:31:01- Good sized back garden, not overlooked- .

0:31:01 > 0:31:04- Nice views down the valley . - Lovely views, aren't they?

0:31:04 > 0:31:07Nice quality kitchen. Well tiled.

0:31:09 > 0:31:13They look nervous. Time for a second opinion.

0:31:14 > 0:31:16Modern fitted kitchen.

0:31:16 > 0:31:19And absolutely fabulous views to the rear again.

0:31:19 > 0:31:23Might consider buying that. What do you reckon, Al?

0:31:23 > 0:31:26They hope it will be valued somewhere near £235,000.

0:31:28 > 0:31:31Id put the property on the market for £230,000

0:31:31 > 0:31:35to achieve around £225,000.

0:31:35 > 0:31:38And for a quick sale, probably put it on for about 217.

0:31:38 > 0:31:41For a quick sale, I would value this property

0:31:41 > 0:31:44- at £210 to £215,000.

0:31:44 > 0:31:47Hmm. So what's the verdict?

0:31:47 > 0:31:49- No horrible surprises, was there?- No.

0:31:49 > 0:31:52I don't think we'd be looking for a quick sale

0:31:52 > 0:31:54even if we were to come to Australia, so...

0:31:54 > 0:31:56No, I'm quite pleased with that.

0:31:56 > 0:31:58The house looked quite nice actually.

0:31:58 > 0:32:04So, er...probably be a bit sad to leave that house.

0:32:05 > 0:32:09A great result. It's worth almost exactly what they expected.

0:32:09 > 0:32:14However, that will mean nothing if they can't afford the mortgage

0:32:14 > 0:32:16and the lifestyle that they want.

0:32:16 > 0:32:19Time to see if they'll be better off in Australia.

0:32:21 > 0:32:23What have we got here altogether?

0:32:23 > 0:32:26- All the good things for you are dearer.- Yes.

0:32:26 > 0:32:29Cabbage is dearer. Alex will be glad, he hates cabbage.

0:32:30 > 0:32:32- Chicken.- Chicken is dearer.

0:32:32 > 0:32:37It's going to cost us £34.00 more a week, so its a "plus."

0:32:39 > 0:32:42OK, so if we look at our mortgage per month.

0:32:42 > 0:32:47- 900 a month.- 732.- So that leaves a difference of

0:32:47 > 0:32:48- 168.- 168. Rightness.

0:32:49 > 0:32:51- Shall we look at salaries?- Yeah.

0:32:52 > 0:32:55- That's enough to make a big impact on the difference over here.- Yeah.

0:32:55 > 0:32:59Bev and Martyn would both be earning substantially more money,

0:32:59 > 0:33:06so they'd potentially be £1,462 a month better off in Australia.

0:33:06 > 0:33:07THEY LAUGH

0:33:07 > 0:33:09That's a massive jump. It's great.

0:33:09 > 0:33:12That's a real positive. Didn't expect it to be that much.

0:33:12 > 0:33:14Which way he will they vote?

0:33:14 > 0:33:16- Australia.- Australia.

0:33:20 > 0:33:23It's a great result on the finances,

0:33:23 > 0:33:26but they still have to persuade Alex.

0:33:26 > 0:33:28He's an only child

0:33:28 > 0:33:32- and Bev is worried about him fitting in and making friends.

0:33:32 > 0:33:34- It could be a deal breaker.

0:33:36 > 0:33:40Back in Wales, rugby plays a vital role in the family's life.

0:33:40 > 0:33:45Alex plays regularly, Martyn coaches and Bev's a big fan.

0:33:45 > 0:33:48They'd be sad to leave their team and friends behind.

0:33:48 > 0:33:51Although in Australia Rugby Union is popular,

0:33:51 > 0:33:54in Adelaide Aussie Rules is far bigger.

0:33:54 > 0:33:58They are keen to give it a try to see if Alex would fit in.

0:33:58 > 0:34:02Coach Matt Wormald is waiting to put them through their paces.

0:34:02 > 0:34:04Welcome to the Henley Sharks.

0:34:04 > 0:34:07Thanks very much for having us today.

0:34:07 > 0:34:10We train for about an hour. You can come and help too.

0:34:10 > 0:34:14From what I understand it's a totally different game...

0:34:14 > 0:34:16- Do you know the rules? - Not a clue.- Nothing at all.

0:34:16 > 0:34:19Don't know what the goals are down this end?

0:34:19 > 0:34:21Kick it in the middle, you get six points.

0:34:21 > 0:34:23- Kick it on the ends, you get one point.

0:34:23 > 0:34:26- You've been watching it on TV. - Know more than me.

0:34:26 > 0:34:29- He has.- Well done.- OK, let's go. - Go and have fun.

0:34:29 > 0:34:32Martyn played competitive rugby until he was 30

0:34:32 > 0:34:34and it's still a big part of his life.

0:34:34 > 0:34:37He's eager to give coaching Aussie Rules a try,

0:34:37 > 0:34:39but he'll have to learn the game pretty quickly.

0:34:39 > 0:34:42- You've done this before. - Beginner's luck!

0:34:44 > 0:34:48- Seeing her son happy is giving Bev hope of winning him over.

0:34:49 > 0:34:52He won't be easy to win round, but I'm hoping this will help

0:34:52 > 0:34:54because he's so mad into sport.

0:34:54 > 0:34:56He loves all sports.

0:34:56 > 0:34:59I'm hoping this is going to be an enticement.

0:34:59 > 0:35:00Hes fitting in quite nicely.

0:35:00 > 0:35:03- He's having a great time with the kids.- He is.

0:35:03 > 0:35:07And she's making friends on the sidelines, too.

0:35:07 > 0:35:10Do the mums get together often and have a good social life?

0:35:10 > 0:35:14Probably too much so. With the boys all playing out here together,

0:35:14 > 0:35:18we get together for the trainings and we've got a good social group

0:35:18 > 0:35:20because we follow that group through the year.

0:35:20 > 0:35:22So you get to know the parents well.

0:35:22 > 0:35:24We support each other, you make good friends.

0:35:24 > 0:35:30Leaving the rugby club he coaches at would be a wrench for Martyn,

0:35:30 > 0:35:33so Aussie Rules needs to capture his imagination

0:35:33 > 0:35:36if he's going to see it as a new passion.

0:35:36 > 0:35:40I don't think Aussie Rules will ever replace Rugby Union for me, no.

0:35:40 > 0:35:42I'd pick up an interest in it.

0:35:42 > 0:35:45Whether it'd become as interesting as Union for me, I don't know.

0:35:45 > 0:35:47I don't think so.

0:35:47 > 0:35:50I wouldn't coach, I don't know enough about the game.

0:35:50 > 0:35:54To be fair to the kids, you need to know what you're talking about.

0:35:54 > 0:35:55OK, guys!

0:35:55 > 0:35:59It's a shame, Martyn can't see himself coaching,

0:35:59 > 0:36:01but if Alex falls for the sport,

0:36:01 > 0:36:04he'll be cheering from the sidelines.

0:36:04 > 0:36:07- And Matt's resorted to bribes. - Thank you, mate. Did you enjoy it?

0:36:07 > 0:36:09- Yeah.- Your skills are very good.

0:36:09 > 0:36:12From the Henley football club, we'd like to give you that football.

0:36:12 > 0:36:15To have and learn, and you might come out here and play.

0:36:15 > 0:36:18- I'll give you that.- Thanks. - Alrighty. No worries.

0:36:18 > 0:36:22# We are the navy blues

0:36:22 > 0:36:23# The all dark navy blues. #

0:36:23 > 0:36:26The Henley sharks have welcomed Alex with open arms,

0:36:26 > 0:36:31but it'll take a lot to convince him to leave the team he loves.

0:36:31 > 0:36:33Well done, boys. Good stuff. Well trained.

0:36:33 > 0:36:38This training session has made me think that Australia is better

0:36:38 > 0:36:41than I thought, so I'd like to move to Australia.

0:36:41 > 0:36:45That's a huge turnaround in Alexs thinking,

0:36:45 > 0:36:50but leaving behind the lifestyle he knows is still a big risk.

0:36:50 > 0:36:52It's time to make their minds up.

0:36:52 > 0:36:54My choice is going to be...

0:36:55 > 0:36:57ALL: Australia!

0:36:57 > 0:36:58Yeh!

0:36:58 > 0:37:01- Give me five.- I love that. - That's nice.

0:37:01 > 0:37:03- We chose the same. - We all got the same!

0:37:03 > 0:37:07Only time will tell how this will affect their final vote

0:37:07 > 0:37:10but there are still some huge challenges ahead of them.

0:37:13 > 0:37:16Alex might be coming around to the idea of moving

0:37:16 > 0:37:19but Bev and Martyn are having doubts.

0:37:19 > 0:37:21Time is running out and they're taking stock.

0:37:21 > 0:37:23It's a long way to come

0:37:23 > 0:37:26if they're not going to find happiness here.

0:37:26 > 0:37:31I think were in a "not so sure place" at the moment, I would say.

0:37:31 > 0:37:34There are positives and negatives.

0:37:34 > 0:37:36But Bev's feeling the pressure.

0:37:36 > 0:37:40It's massive wrench taking us away from my parents and Martyns mother,

0:37:40 > 0:37:42but even more of a wrench to take Alex away

0:37:42 > 0:37:45because they have a massive input into his life.

0:37:46 > 0:37:51I feel as if he'd come to them like a fabulous miracle

0:37:51 > 0:37:53and we're just ripping him away

0:37:53 > 0:37:57and that does make me feel really, really guilty.

0:37:57 > 0:38:01And it's a pain That's becoming all too real.

0:38:08 > 0:38:10SHE SOBS

0:38:13 > 0:38:16In a way, I feel really guilty for loving this so much.

0:38:17 > 0:38:21For the first time, the distance from home has really hit Bev.

0:38:23 > 0:38:27They're faced with a heart-breaking decision.

0:38:27 > 0:38:29Move now or it'll be too late.

0:38:29 > 0:38:33Go and say goodbye to everyone they know.

0:38:36 > 0:38:39Seeing messages from back home could reassure them

0:38:39 > 0:38:42or leave them in despair.

0:38:42 > 0:38:45We prepared a DVD for them to view.

0:38:46 > 0:38:48Yo-hoo.

0:38:50 > 0:38:52Hi, Alex, its me Nanny Ducky.

0:38:52 > 0:38:56I hope you're enjoying yourself, Love, and having a lovely time.

0:38:56 > 0:38:58Theyre a proper family, they do everything together.

0:38:59 > 0:39:01Martyn is my youngest son.

0:39:01 > 0:39:03To me, he's absolutely fantastic,

0:39:03 > 0:39:07hes always there for me especially since his father passed away.

0:39:07 > 0:39:11Living locally, it's a lot easier to know he's there for me

0:39:11 > 0:39:15and I can call him whenever I want. He's always been a great son.

0:39:15 > 0:39:17Alex is a little ray of sunshine.

0:39:17 > 0:39:20He brings so much joy into my life.

0:39:20 > 0:39:23I love him to bits. He's a gorgeous little boy. He's always...

0:39:23 > 0:39:25I'm getting... Sorry.

0:39:25 > 0:39:28Beverley is a wonderful daughter.

0:39:28 > 0:39:31She'd do anything for anybody.

0:39:31 > 0:39:34We love her to bits. We're very proud of her.

0:39:34 > 0:39:37It's just so far away.

0:39:37 > 0:39:38It's just so far away.

0:39:38 > 0:39:41But erm...

0:39:41 > 0:39:44- It's a wonderful opportunity. - A wonderful opportunity.

0:39:44 > 0:39:48But I think what they're doing now is the best thing

0:39:48 > 0:39:50to look at what they want, and best of luck to them.

0:39:50 > 0:39:53They've talked about it for so long. And I think it's there,

0:39:53 > 0:39:57and they need to go and see if this is what they want.

0:39:57 > 0:40:05- If they do go, they will leave a big, big hole in our lives.- Yeah.

0:40:05 > 0:40:07Who are we going to have to organise our nights out?

0:40:07 > 0:40:13You were the person who brought us together and who keep us together.

0:40:13 > 0:40:18We're missing you already. Erm... Love you to bits.

0:40:18 > 0:40:22If you decide to stay in Australia, I'll miss you dreadfully,

0:40:22 > 0:40:25but I want what's best for you. Be safe, be happy,

0:40:25 > 0:40:28and I'll see you soon. Bye.

0:40:28 > 0:40:29Bye.

0:40:29 > 0:40:30SHE SNIVELS

0:40:30 > 0:40:35- That was lovely, wasn't it?- Good, yeah.- That was really good that was.

0:40:35 > 0:40:39I have got really special friends. We've got the most fantastic family.

0:40:39 > 0:40:44I can't believe Nanny Ducky admitted her name was Nanny Ducky on telly.

0:40:44 > 0:40:47That was your little pet name for her, wasn't it? And Nanny Bowie.

0:40:47 > 0:40:52- Nobody said don't go. - No, so there you are.

0:40:52 > 0:40:55Yeah, I still don't wanna go.

0:40:55 > 0:40:58They've got a fight on their hands to persuade Alex,

0:40:58 > 0:41:00but how did Bev find it?

0:41:00 > 0:41:02- I'm quite pleased.- Really?

0:41:02 > 0:41:04I'm quite pleased with myself how I held it together.

0:41:04 > 0:41:07- She didn't, did she? - "Held it together."

0:41:07 > 0:41:09Don't you think I held it together?

0:41:09 > 0:41:12- The first minute. - I only made one hanky soppy.

0:41:14 > 0:41:18Seeing the messages has brought home the reality

0:41:18 > 0:41:19of living on the other side of the world.

0:41:21 > 0:41:24They discovered with their budget they'd struggle

0:41:24 > 0:41:27to get the home they'd been dreaming of.

0:41:27 > 0:41:30While Martyn was pleased with the wage he could earn,

0:41:30 > 0:41:34Bev was disappointed to find her qualifications are not recognised.

0:41:35 > 0:41:38Alex loved playing Aussie Rules,

0:41:38 > 0:41:41but the guilt of tearing Alex from his grandparents

0:41:41 > 0:41:43has forced them to face the true cost of moving

0:41:43 > 0:41:46to the other side of the world.

0:41:46 > 0:41:49It's now or never. Soon Bev will be too old to get a visa

0:41:49 > 0:41:53so when it comes to the final decision

0:41:53 > 0:41:56can they really uproot their lives?

0:41:56 > 0:41:58I was hoping for a black or white decision

0:41:58 > 0:42:00but there's lots of grey areas for me to mull over.

0:42:01 > 0:42:07The wages have been a big influence and it.s been a great week, so...

0:42:07 > 0:42:09My choice is gonna be...

0:42:09 > 0:42:11- Australia.- Australia .- UK.

0:42:11 > 0:42:12- Oh.- Oh.

0:42:12 > 0:42:13THEY LAUGH

0:42:14 > 0:42:16You're cheats, you two.

0:42:18 > 0:42:21- Why are you crying? - Because I feel really guilty...

0:42:22 > 0:42:24You feel guilty, what about?

0:42:24 > 0:42:28Our lives are never straightforward. Are they?

0:42:28 > 0:42:31- Where did you wanna be yesterday? - Nowhere.

0:42:31 > 0:42:33- No. Where did you wanna be yesterday?- UK.

0:42:33 > 0:42:37- No, you didn't.- No, that was because of Aussie Rules yesterday.

0:42:37 > 0:42:40- Well, there you are, you had a good experience.

0:42:40 > 0:42:44- An own goal.- That's my decision.

0:42:44 > 0:42:45- End of story.

0:42:48 > 0:42:52It will take more than Aussie Rules to change his mind.

0:42:53 > 0:42:56They still have to persuade Alex,

0:42:56 > 0:43:00- but Bev and Martyn have been convinced by life in Australia

0:43:00 > 0:43:04- and they're one huge step closer to making their dream a reality.
