0:00:02 > 0:00:05Would you uproot your family to build a better life

0:00:05 > 0:00:07thousands of miles away,

0:00:07 > 0:00:11especially if it meant risking your successful business

0:00:11 > 0:00:13and starting it again from scratch?

0:00:15 > 0:00:19Simon is desperate to move his ice-cream business to Australia

0:00:19 > 0:00:22but for him it's about more than just money.

0:00:22 > 0:00:24Life around the business is unbearable.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26I hate my day to day existence.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28He's sold the family home

0:00:28 > 0:00:30and is gambling everything on emigrating

0:00:30 > 0:00:33but his wife Kerry just doesn't want to go.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36The whole thought of doing it scares the hell out of me.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39It's putting huge pressure on them.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42'Simon kind of gets really tetchy and it can cause arguments.'

0:00:42 > 0:00:44He's like, "You're not prepared to try it."

0:00:44 > 0:00:47Well, divorces are very expensive these days.

0:00:47 > 0:00:52In the end, will the emotional tug of leaving loved ones prove too much?

0:00:52 > 0:00:55You put a brave face on but it gets you there.

0:00:55 > 0:00:59We just love them to bits, don't we?

0:00:59 > 0:01:01All right. All right.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05Whatever your decision's going to be, and I don't know what it's going to be,

0:01:05 > 0:01:09- would that change your mind?- I can't definitely say. I really can't.

0:01:09 > 0:01:13I've got to look at the kids, as well. Becca's destroyed by it.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15It's make or break for Kerry and Simon.

0:01:15 > 0:01:18Will they see eye to eye or will his dreams be shattered?

0:01:41 > 0:01:44With its sunny climate and over 10,000 miles of beaches,

0:01:44 > 0:01:48life Down Under proves irresistible for many Brits.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51It's widely seen as a land of opportunity for budding entrepreneurs

0:01:51 > 0:01:56because small business is the biggest employer in the Australian economy.

0:01:56 > 0:01:58But is it all it's cracked up to be

0:01:58 > 0:02:02when over 50% of those businesses fail in the first few years?

0:02:02 > 0:02:07The Wells are facing an emotional week of highs and lows,

0:02:07 > 0:02:09as they test out life in Australia.

0:02:09 > 0:02:14At the end of it, they'll have a life-changing decision to make -

0:02:14 > 0:02:18whether to stay in the UK or to move Down Under.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22Simon and wife Kerry rent a three-bedroom bungalow

0:02:22 > 0:02:25in the town of Shoreham-by-Sea near Brighton,

0:02:25 > 0:02:29along with their two children, eight-year-old Becca and Ben, who's three.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32Simon is dying to move Down Under.

0:02:32 > 0:02:36I was out there 20 years ago. I fell in love with Australia then

0:02:36 > 0:02:40and nothing's matched it, nothing's got that same feel.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43- It's an itch I can't scratch. - Simon hates this country.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45He hates the weather, the cold weather.

0:02:45 > 0:02:50He hates the fact he's trying to do a business that is not conducive to this country.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53Simon's pride and joy is his ice-cream business.

0:02:53 > 0:02:58He takes his fleet of retro-style tricycles to weddings and corporate events.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01I think Australia's ready for it. I'm ready for Australia.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04I think the appeal of the Icicles is such

0:03:04 > 0:03:08that I could take it to the North Pole and still do well.

0:03:08 > 0:03:12Is Simon's confidence blinding him to the huge risks involved?

0:03:12 > 0:03:15He's even sold the family home to raise business capital

0:03:15 > 0:03:18and could be putting his whole family's future in danger.

0:03:18 > 0:03:22It is exceptionally important for our business to flourish out there.

0:03:22 > 0:03:24Without the business, we've got nothing.

0:03:24 > 0:03:27And if ending up with nothing isn't scary enough,

0:03:27 > 0:03:29Kerry has her own fears.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31Fitting in, finding new friends.

0:03:31 > 0:03:35Er, I don't really have that much confidence myself,

0:03:35 > 0:03:39so being put into a new environment with new people

0:03:39 > 0:03:42who have already established friendships

0:03:42 > 0:03:44is very, very daunting for me.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47I always feel like I've not got anything to talk about

0:03:47 > 0:03:49and I'm not an interesting person.

0:03:49 > 0:03:53I don't know what I'd do if she said she didn't want to go.

0:03:53 > 0:03:57I guess we'd stay here and carry on being cold and rained on

0:03:57 > 0:03:58every event we do.

0:03:58 > 0:04:02From an early age, Kerry was raised by her aunt and dad.

0:04:02 > 0:04:06'He's a massive part in my life. Brought me up from the age of three.'

0:04:06 > 0:04:09It would be very difficult for me to leave my dad.

0:04:09 > 0:04:11Erm...

0:04:12 > 0:04:13Yeah.

0:04:13 > 0:04:15It would be very, very difficult.

0:04:15 > 0:04:20Simon's children from a previous relationship would be staying in the UK.

0:04:20 > 0:04:22His eldest son, Matt, is off to university

0:04:22 > 0:04:25but daughter Lindsey and grandchildren, Harvey and Jack

0:04:25 > 0:04:26rely on him a lot.

0:04:26 > 0:04:29'On a personal basis, I'll miss members of the family.

0:04:29 > 0:04:31'I'll miss my grandchildren.'

0:04:31 > 0:04:33They're almost like my children.

0:04:33 > 0:04:36They're at the age that they need us and we love them.

0:04:36 > 0:04:39I kind of see it as a pioneering thing, you know.

0:04:39 > 0:04:41'Wells Senior goes out there and sets up.'

0:04:41 > 0:04:44In ten years time I see a few more Wells people out there.

0:04:44 > 0:04:45That's the plan.

0:04:45 > 0:04:48Whether his eldest children follow him out or not,

0:04:48 > 0:04:51it's Kerry he needs to convince.

0:04:51 > 0:04:55'I will have to find confidence to be able to survive out there.'

0:04:55 > 0:04:58That scares the life out of me.

0:04:58 > 0:05:00Kerry feels pressure from me

0:05:00 > 0:05:02and to be truthful, I give her pressure.

0:05:02 > 0:05:06I've tried not to but it's hard because I so want this.

0:05:07 > 0:05:08We've got a long, long way to go.

0:05:09 > 0:05:11With two little children.

0:05:12 > 0:05:13Scary stuff.

0:05:14 > 0:05:17Their week Down Under will either spell the end

0:05:17 > 0:05:19of Simon's long-held dream

0:05:19 > 0:05:22or mark the start of a new life for the whole family.

0:05:22 > 0:05:25So, where in Australia shall we send them?

0:05:27 > 0:05:31With a business visa, Simon and his family could set up anywhere in Australia.

0:05:33 > 0:05:37They could go to Sydney, the first British colony founded in 1788.

0:05:37 > 0:05:43As the largest city in Australia, it attracts tourists from across the world

0:05:43 > 0:05:46and so Simon should have plenty of takers for his ice cream.

0:05:46 > 0:05:49But it's by far the most expensive Australian city

0:05:49 > 0:05:52and the average house price is £350,000.

0:05:54 > 0:05:58Perhaps the Brisbane area would be more appropriate.

0:05:58 > 0:06:00With a population of around two million,

0:06:00 > 0:06:02it's one of the country's major business hubs

0:06:02 > 0:06:06and there'll be plenty of corporate events and weddings for Simon's business.

0:06:07 > 0:06:10House prices in the metropolis are booming,

0:06:10 > 0:06:14so Kerry and Simon could live in the more affordable Redlands area.

0:06:17 > 0:06:21Or maybe they'd prefer to go to Perth in Western Australia.

0:06:21 > 0:06:24It's the fastest-growing city, offers plenty of work

0:06:24 > 0:06:27and as one in eight residents here are British born,

0:06:27 > 0:06:31Simon and Kerry should feel at home when they find their feet.

0:06:31 > 0:06:34But although house prices are lower than some large cities,

0:06:34 > 0:06:36the cost of living can be expensive.

0:06:37 > 0:06:42So which city is the best option for the Wells' trial week Down Under?

0:06:42 > 0:06:45We decided the Redlands area, just east of Brisbane,

0:06:45 > 0:06:47would suit the Wells best,

0:06:47 > 0:06:50as it has a great base for Simon's business,

0:06:50 > 0:06:52good schools for the children

0:06:52 > 0:06:54and it's only minutes from the coast.

0:06:54 > 0:06:57But will the properties match up to their high expectations?

0:06:57 > 0:07:00My dreams have been shot down in one hit here.

0:07:00 > 0:07:03What will the Aussies make of his very British business?

0:07:03 > 0:07:05I don't think you'd make a fortune.

0:07:05 > 0:07:10Money is nothing compared to leaving your children and grandchildren behind.

0:07:10 > 0:07:13We're missing you. Harv and Jack keep asking when you're coming home.

0:07:13 > 0:07:18Please bear in mind, Dad, that it's a 50:50 whether we will follow out after you.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20Everything's at stake.

0:07:20 > 0:07:22Will Kerry put an end to Simon's dreams for good?

0:07:22 > 0:07:25My biggest reservation is leaving my family

0:07:25 > 0:07:28and also trying to start out a completely new life.

0:07:28 > 0:07:30It's like being reborn.

0:07:33 > 0:07:37Kerry's apprehensive as her family head into the unknown.

0:07:37 > 0:07:41They cross three continents, spanning a distance of nearly 11,000 miles,

0:07:41 > 0:07:46and touch down in Brisbane having been in the air for 21 hours.

0:07:48 > 0:07:52They're really feeling the effects of such a massive journey.

0:07:52 > 0:07:55Oh, it was barbaric. It was awful.

0:07:55 > 0:07:59It took me completely by surprise. I didn't expect it to be as bad.

0:07:59 > 0:08:02I couldn't believe how long it took.

0:08:02 > 0:08:03Each hour took two hours.

0:08:03 > 0:08:06I don't know if it's today, yesterday or tomorrow, to be honest.

0:08:06 > 0:08:08I'm really tired.

0:08:08 > 0:08:11Absolutely shattered.

0:08:11 > 0:08:14The kids did phenomenally well, I think, considering,

0:08:14 > 0:08:18but, yeah, a very exhausting trip. Very exhausting.

0:08:18 > 0:08:20We're on the other side of the world

0:08:20 > 0:08:22after all the planning and preparation

0:08:22 > 0:08:24and now it's time to do what we're here for.

0:08:24 > 0:08:26It's going to be a very exciting week

0:08:26 > 0:08:29but I'm still very apprehensive.

0:08:30 > 0:08:35The family are staying in a three-bedroom wood-slatted style house in Redlands.

0:08:35 > 0:08:39As Kerry's doubts are already creeping in, it's vital that she can settle here.

0:08:39 > 0:08:44- It doesn't seem as big as a typical Australian house.- Mummy!

0:08:44 > 0:08:46Shall we put you down on the sofa?

0:08:46 > 0:08:49Ben, we're going to look at the rest of the house.

0:08:49 > 0:08:51- Well, it's functional.- Yes.

0:08:51 > 0:08:54It's got pretty much what you need without being extravagant.

0:08:54 > 0:08:59- Yeah. It's a very old-fashioned kind of property.- Yeah.

0:08:59 > 0:09:02Obviously, it would need a lot of updating if it was ours.

0:09:02 > 0:09:05This is sort of like... It's OK.

0:09:05 > 0:09:08It's kind of like halfway there.

0:09:08 > 0:09:12- Is that a walk-in wardrobe? - HE LAUGHS

0:09:12 > 0:09:15As the children shake off the jet lag,

0:09:15 > 0:09:17Kerry's thoughts turn to the week ahead

0:09:17 > 0:09:20and the huge sacrifices she'll have to make

0:09:20 > 0:09:22if they decide to move Down Under.

0:09:22 > 0:09:24It would be a massive thing to leave my family.

0:09:24 > 0:09:28- They'd miss out on Becca and Ben. - You would give them so much more.

0:09:28 > 0:09:34- You would miss out on those items... - Nothing can replace your family, Si.

0:09:34 > 0:09:38Friendships can't replace the closeness of your family.

0:09:38 > 0:09:41You can make new friendships. You're still young enough.

0:09:43 > 0:09:47It's no good working all the time and not getting anything out of it.

0:09:47 > 0:09:50That's just, you know... What's the point?

0:09:50 > 0:09:52You might as well put a bag over my head now.

0:09:52 > 0:09:55I don't have a great deal of confidence

0:09:55 > 0:09:59and to have to give up what I know and give up my comfort zone

0:09:59 > 0:10:04to a foreign country that's so far away from my family and friends,

0:10:04 > 0:10:05and my comfort zones,

0:10:05 > 0:10:09it's got to give me something pretty spectacular.

0:10:13 > 0:10:16Back in Shoreham-by-Sea on the south coast of England,

0:10:16 > 0:10:20the Wells family rent a three-bedroom bungalow for £1,000 a month.

0:10:20 > 0:10:23They'd like to rent a home for the same price Down Under,

0:10:23 > 0:10:25before they eventually buy.

0:10:25 > 0:10:27But they're desperate for more space

0:10:27 > 0:10:30and hope Australia will give them a lot more for their money.

0:10:32 > 0:10:37A life-changing move to Australia will be a lot easier for the Wells

0:10:37 > 0:10:39if they can find the right home.

0:10:39 > 0:10:42But that will depend on the area they choose to live

0:10:42 > 0:10:45and, ultimately, how much they can afford to spend.

0:10:45 > 0:10:48They could choose to live in the city of Redlands.

0:10:48 > 0:10:51With a population of just 130,000,

0:10:51 > 0:10:53it offers the Wells a relaxed urban lifestyle

0:10:53 > 0:10:55with a minimum commute to work.

0:10:55 > 0:11:01This four-bedroom house can be rented out for £1,275 a month,

0:11:01 > 0:11:03so it's slightly over the Wells' budget

0:11:03 > 0:11:08but if Kerry worked full time, this kind of luxury could be within their means.

0:11:08 > 0:11:12Alternatively, the Redlands coastline is perfect for a growing family

0:11:12 > 0:11:13like the Wells

0:11:13 > 0:11:16and is the most popular place to live.

0:11:16 > 0:11:19But a prime location does mean premium prices.

0:11:19 > 0:11:24This penthouse apartment could cost up to £2,500 a month to rent

0:11:24 > 0:11:27and there's no garden for the children,

0:11:27 > 0:11:31so they would be better off looking for something inland.

0:11:32 > 0:11:36If they choose to live in the country suburbs of Redlands,

0:11:36 > 0:11:38luxury comes at a reasonable price.

0:11:38 > 0:11:40This four-bedroom property is a great example

0:11:40 > 0:11:44of the contemporary living options popping up in this area.

0:11:44 > 0:11:46It would cost around £1,800 a month to rent

0:11:46 > 0:11:50and so could be a good choice for the Wells when their business takes off.

0:11:50 > 0:11:54But as there are also plenty of other properties within their budget,

0:11:54 > 0:11:57we're going to show them three family homes in this area.

0:11:58 > 0:12:00Property 1 is a three-bedroom bungalow,

0:12:00 > 0:12:03bang on budget at £930 a month to rent.

0:12:03 > 0:12:08This is Simon's first opportunity to show Kerry what Australia has to offer them.

0:12:08 > 0:12:10If they can't find a home they like,

0:12:10 > 0:12:13he knows his dream of a new life will be impossible.

0:12:19 > 0:12:21Grim.

0:12:23 > 0:12:26Carpets. Didn't expect carpets in an Australian house.

0:12:26 > 0:12:29God, they're very '70s, I would say.

0:12:29 > 0:12:32It's like the carpets were put down before the house was built.

0:12:32 > 0:12:33- Moving on.- OK.

0:12:34 > 0:12:36It's very, er...

0:12:36 > 0:12:39holiday chalet.

0:12:39 > 0:12:42- What? The colour is absolutely... - Double wardrobes.

0:12:42 > 0:12:45- OK.- The colour just...

0:12:45 > 0:12:47The carpet and the colour, the colour and carpet...

0:12:47 > 0:12:51- Very old-fashioned.- I just don't understand. Give it a...

0:12:51 > 0:12:53Mm.

0:12:55 > 0:12:59- And this is the third bedroom. - There's something deja vu going on.

0:12:59 > 0:13:02Nice-sized shower.

0:13:02 > 0:13:05Erm, condensation problem, though, going on round here.

0:13:05 > 0:13:08It's hardly living up to expectations

0:13:08 > 0:13:11and if Kerry can't find a house that feels like home,

0:13:11 > 0:13:13she's never going to make the move.

0:13:13 > 0:13:16I think this property is very old-fashioned

0:13:16 > 0:13:18and I actually think it's a lot of money

0:13:18 > 0:13:23in comparison to what we can get back home for £1,000, English pounds,

0:13:23 > 0:13:26and this is in comparison.

0:13:26 > 0:13:28Yeah, I think it's very, very dated.

0:13:28 > 0:13:30A lot of money for what it is.

0:13:30 > 0:13:34My immediate thought is how am I supposed to persuade Kerry to move here

0:13:34 > 0:13:37when we're seeing properties as bad as this for the money?

0:13:37 > 0:13:41My dreams have been shot down in one hit here, really.

0:13:41 > 0:13:44I can't believe anything can be that much money and that bad.

0:13:44 > 0:13:48It's awful. And the worst thing is that we have to live with the decor.

0:13:48 > 0:13:51The carpets and the walls have to stay. We can't change that.

0:13:51 > 0:13:53It's a big thumbs down.

0:13:53 > 0:13:57Property 2 is a three-bedroom, single-storey house,

0:13:57 > 0:14:00up for rent at £940 a month.

0:14:00 > 0:14:03Although it may need a little modernising, it's within their budget.

0:14:03 > 0:14:07Simon knows how important it is for Kerry and the children

0:14:07 > 0:14:10to be happy and he refuses to settle for second best.

0:14:10 > 0:14:13Hopefully, he'll find this place a vast improvement.

0:14:22 > 0:14:25Mm... Fairly small rooms, aren't they?

0:14:25 > 0:14:28They've got built-in wardrobes but they're still small.

0:14:28 > 0:14:31To me, it's the decor and the colour.

0:14:31 > 0:14:35- Old-fashioned furniture.- It feels like 1950 again, doesn't it?- Yeah.

0:14:35 > 0:14:37Not that I was here then.

0:14:37 > 0:14:40It's not a bad-sized room, this one. Nice and bright.

0:14:40 > 0:14:42Twin aspect.

0:14:42 > 0:14:44Bit of inlaid marquetry, there.

0:14:45 > 0:14:48I have to say, this does not float my boat at all.

0:14:49 > 0:14:51Again. Very disappointing.

0:14:54 > 0:14:56It's not very private, is it?

0:14:56 > 0:15:00That fencing is really not private at all from next door.

0:15:00 > 0:15:03And the noise of the road. It's a main road.

0:15:03 > 0:15:06- I've had more privacy in a football ground.- That's noisy.

0:15:06 > 0:15:10It's dawning on the Wells family that their budget may be limiting.

0:15:10 > 0:15:15They expected Australia to give them more for their money, not less.

0:15:15 > 0:15:18Could Simon's dream already be slipping away?

0:15:18 > 0:15:21About £1 better than the last place. It's very marginally better

0:15:21 > 0:15:25but it's still a long way short, in my opinion,

0:15:25 > 0:15:27of what we expected.

0:15:27 > 0:15:31Yeah, it's still not floating my boat, either, really.

0:15:31 > 0:15:35Erm... Not to make a massive move from the UK to Australia

0:15:35 > 0:15:38and not feel comfortable in my home.

0:15:38 > 0:15:39I know a home is what you make it

0:15:39 > 0:15:43and once your own furniture is in, it does become more yours

0:15:43 > 0:15:47but it's got to feel right in the first place to bring your stuff over.

0:15:47 > 0:15:49It's really not floating my boat.

0:15:49 > 0:15:52If they're ever going to find a home they like,

0:15:52 > 0:15:55the Wells will have to push their budget to the limit.

0:15:55 > 0:16:00Property 3 is up for rent at £1,225 a month

0:16:00 > 0:16:04and if the business is doing well or if Kerry gets a job,

0:16:04 > 0:16:06they'd be able to afford a place like this.

0:16:06 > 0:16:10Along with three bedrooms, it has a large garden and a swimming pool.

0:16:11 > 0:16:14If this doesn't win Kerry and Simon over, then nothing will.

0:16:16 > 0:16:19- That's a bit more like it, isn't it? - It's lovely.

0:16:19 > 0:16:22Nice floor. Spacious. Nice decor. Yeah. I like it.

0:16:23 > 0:16:27- Wow, this is beautiful. - A proper kitchen.

0:16:27 > 0:16:31- Yes, it's much nicer. - It's got a nice gas hob.- Yeah.

0:16:33 > 0:16:36- Mm. Nice size.- Very nice.

0:16:36 > 0:16:39- Very nice.- Very nice.- Mm.

0:16:42 > 0:16:45- Wow.- Wow! It's like a national park.

0:16:45 > 0:16:48It's amazing what you can get for a little bit more money, isn't it?

0:16:48 > 0:16:52- Beautiful. Beautiful-sized garden. - You get a bigger tree and a pool.

0:16:52 > 0:16:55- And a swimming pool. - That's amazing.- Wa-hoo!

0:16:55 > 0:16:58At last, they've found something they actually like.

0:16:58 > 0:17:02- Wow.- Beautiful, isn't it?- Yeah. - Lovely garden, lovely pool.

0:17:02 > 0:17:07But they need to remember a house like this would be a real stretch on just one salary.

0:17:09 > 0:17:13Simon and Kerry hated the two places they could afford

0:17:13 > 0:17:16but will they take that into account when they vote on homes?

0:17:16 > 0:17:19We've seen three properties. Two were very similar.

0:17:19 > 0:17:21Not the sort of houses we'd like to live in.

0:17:21 > 0:17:24The third property, for a slightly bit more money,

0:17:24 > 0:17:26was absolutely lovely.

0:17:26 > 0:17:29Garden, swimming pool, lovely layout to the house.

0:17:29 > 0:17:32So based on this our votes shall be...

0:17:35 > 0:17:37- Australia.- UK.

0:17:37 > 0:17:39- UK?- Mm.- Why UK?

0:17:39 > 0:17:45Er, quite simply because the first two properties were our price range,

0:17:45 > 0:17:49£1,000 a month and that's what we're basing it on at home.

0:17:49 > 0:17:54But if I'm out here working as well, we could afford a little bit more.

0:17:54 > 0:17:58For what we could get, that third property was so much different.

0:17:58 > 0:18:01It was ten times better for a bit more money

0:18:01 > 0:18:06but based on £1,000 a month, we are better at home in terms of what we've got.

0:18:06 > 0:18:09- Not that I want to be there but it's a fact, I think.- OK.- Yeah?

0:18:09 > 0:18:11- Sorry.- OK.

0:18:15 > 0:18:18Simon Wells is desperate for a better life Down Under.

0:18:18 > 0:18:21My main reason for being here and doing this

0:18:21 > 0:18:24is to have my children grow up in this environment

0:18:24 > 0:18:26and to pass on a solid business to them.

0:18:26 > 0:18:28And I want to be here, to be fair.

0:18:28 > 0:18:30But can they afford it?

0:18:30 > 0:18:33- SHE GASPS - Oh, my goodness.

0:18:33 > 0:18:34It's almost double.

0:18:35 > 0:18:38Money is nothing compared to leaving loved ones behind.

0:18:38 > 0:18:42If Dad and Kerry go to Australia, I'd miss them loads and loads and loads.

0:18:42 > 0:18:45It would be a massive void in my life if they did go.

0:18:45 > 0:18:49I wouldn't be human if I didn't say I'd be devastated if they went.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52In the end, will the pressure be too much?

0:18:52 > 0:18:55'Australia is his dream but sometimes things aren't meant to be.'

0:18:55 > 0:18:57He will find another dream.

0:19:01 > 0:19:04Kerry may be sold on Australian property

0:19:04 > 0:19:08but they all know that Simon's dream of a new life Down Under

0:19:08 > 0:19:13will remain just that if he can't get his new business off the ground.

0:19:13 > 0:19:17In the UK, Simon has a successful ice-cream catering company

0:19:17 > 0:19:19with a fleet of tricycles.

0:19:19 > 0:19:21But it's tough to get an Australian business visa

0:19:21 > 0:19:24and he needs around £200,000 of collateral.

0:19:24 > 0:19:26Gambling everything on this,

0:19:26 > 0:19:29he's even sold the family home to stump up the cash.

0:19:29 > 0:19:33The business is everything to us and it is Simon's lifestyle.

0:19:33 > 0:19:35He's put everything into the bikes.

0:19:35 > 0:19:39If the business didn't survive and didn't thrive, nor would we.

0:19:39 > 0:19:41We'd have to come home.

0:19:41 > 0:19:44We are taking a very quintessentially English business

0:19:44 > 0:19:47into an Australian market, that's my concern.

0:19:47 > 0:19:52Down Under, the whole move rides on Simon establishing successful contacts.

0:19:52 > 0:19:54His first stop is Old Government House

0:19:54 > 0:19:58on the campus at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane.

0:19:58 > 0:20:01It's a popular venue for weddings and corporate events,

0:20:01 > 0:20:03just the market he needs to tap into.

0:20:03 > 0:20:07Simon's quick to give PR manager Michelle the hard sell.

0:20:07 > 0:20:09I mean, everybody has ice cream

0:20:09 > 0:20:14but the delivery from a bike is, the conception here, is unique.

0:20:14 > 0:20:17Yeah, well, we definitely don't have anything like that here.

0:20:17 > 0:20:21How do you feel that would go down with Australians?

0:20:21 > 0:20:26A quintessentially English business serving Australians?

0:20:26 > 0:20:28Would we be told to go home?

0:20:28 > 0:20:33- Well, I love my ice cream, so not by me.- You don't look as though you do.

0:20:33 > 0:20:36Erm, because we don't have anything like that,

0:20:36 > 0:20:39I guess I've got no reference point to go from

0:20:39 > 0:20:45but in saying that, there possibly could be opportunities.

0:20:45 > 0:20:49Although this sounds promising, Simon knows there are tough times ahead.

0:20:49 > 0:20:52If the business fails to make enough money,

0:20:52 > 0:20:55the family will lose their visa and be forced to return home.

0:20:56 > 0:21:01So this is where we hold a lot of functions like weddings, receptions

0:21:01 > 0:21:02and garden parties.

0:21:02 > 0:21:05I can just see ourselves here, actually.

0:21:05 > 0:21:06When can I start?

0:21:06 > 0:21:10Simon's desperate to make it work and it's not just the business.

0:21:10 > 0:21:14His well-being and ultimately his happiness depends on the move.

0:21:14 > 0:21:17Whilst we have a successful business in the UK,

0:21:17 > 0:21:21I find that life around the business is unbearable, pretty much.

0:21:21 > 0:21:23I just hate my day-to-day existence.

0:21:23 > 0:21:30So for me, to go on, to go on like I am in the UK,

0:21:30 > 0:21:33it's not about money, it's not about being successful in business,

0:21:33 > 0:21:39it's about my social life and my life around the business which pretty much is nothing.

0:21:39 > 0:21:42Unfortunately for Simon, Kerry is quite happy at home.

0:21:42 > 0:21:45The kind of person I am, the lack of confidence,

0:21:45 > 0:21:48I get frightened by change.

0:21:48 > 0:21:52Familiarity is what keeps me here.

0:21:52 > 0:21:54And she has her own dreams.

0:21:54 > 0:21:58My plans here are to train in nursing or midwifery,

0:21:58 > 0:22:02so my plans there would be to do very much a similar thing.

0:22:02 > 0:22:04I think I've got quite a caring nature

0:22:04 > 0:22:08and I'm always helping people and friends and things like that.

0:22:08 > 0:22:11I feel I've got a lot more to offer than just being Mum.

0:22:11 > 0:22:16So Down Under, she's visiting Griffith University Medical School,

0:22:16 > 0:22:18to see whether she could study to be a nurse.

0:22:20 > 0:22:22- Come in.- Hello, Marion.

0:22:22 > 0:22:25Dr Marion Tower is the supervisor.

0:22:25 > 0:22:27Would you like to have a look in the nursing labs

0:22:27 > 0:22:31- and see where all our clinical skills are conducted?- Lovely.

0:22:31 > 0:22:34This could be a great way for Kerry to make new friends

0:22:34 > 0:22:37and most importantly, build up her self-esteem.

0:22:37 > 0:22:40So these are our new simulation dummies.

0:22:40 > 0:22:42We're able to find veins,

0:22:42 > 0:22:45so we can actually put cannulas in the veins.

0:22:45 > 0:22:49And some of the dummies as well will talk. They can shout.

0:22:50 > 0:22:52They can vomit.

0:22:52 > 0:22:57We try and combine some fun with some of the things that we do, as well.

0:22:57 > 0:23:00So, Kerry, I've seen your CV.

0:23:00 > 0:23:03What makes you want to do nursing now?

0:23:03 > 0:23:05I've come to a crossroads in my life.

0:23:05 > 0:23:10I'm a mummy, I'm always going to be a mummy, but I need to be myself.

0:23:10 > 0:23:12I need to do something for myself

0:23:12 > 0:23:16and I just have a real interest in nursing, so, yeah, that's...

0:23:16 > 0:23:19So you must have some questions for me. What would you like to ask?

0:23:19 > 0:23:23In the UK, it's free for me to train to be a nurse in the UK

0:23:23 > 0:23:25but how much would it cost me to train here?

0:23:25 > 0:23:32The cost as a foreign national, it is approximately 20,000 a year.

0:23:32 > 0:23:36My advice would be to wait until you get your permanent residency

0:23:36 > 0:23:39and that would be about 14-15,000 a year.

0:23:39 > 0:23:41If I was to train as a nurse in the UK,

0:23:41 > 0:23:46would those qualifications be transferrable to Australia?

0:23:46 > 0:23:49Your skills are very transferrable to Australia.

0:23:49 > 0:23:52There's often a high percentage of overseas nurses working there

0:23:52 > 0:23:53and that includes UK.

0:23:53 > 0:23:56It is a great career. It really is.

0:23:56 > 0:24:00I keep having people say to me, "Why nursing? You've got to deal with poo and sick."

0:24:00 > 0:24:02But that doesn't bother me.

0:24:02 > 0:24:05I love hospitals, as well. I've got a real thing for them,

0:24:05 > 0:24:07which is really bizarre.

0:24:07 > 0:24:08Very strange.

0:24:08 > 0:24:12'That was absolutely amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

0:24:12 > 0:24:14'Marion was just such a lovely person.'

0:24:14 > 0:24:17The equipment they've got is just incredible,

0:24:17 > 0:24:19so I would thoroughly enjoy it.

0:24:19 > 0:24:24My only concern is the costing, which is a massive factor.

0:24:24 > 0:24:30Yeah. 20,000 per year to study is quite a substantial figure.

0:24:32 > 0:24:35With the added cost of Kerry's nursing training in Australia,

0:24:35 > 0:24:38Simon's under even more pressure to drum up business.

0:24:38 > 0:24:41He's arranged a meeting with Alan Lloyd,

0:24:41 > 0:24:44the marketing manager of an open-air heritage museum

0:24:44 > 0:24:45near Brisbane.

0:24:45 > 0:24:47That's our trike.

0:24:47 > 0:24:51What do you see the opportunities are for us here, business-wise?

0:24:51 > 0:24:53Well, Simon, having viewed the bike,

0:24:53 > 0:24:56the whole concept would fit very well with the village.

0:24:56 > 0:24:59As you say, the village is very retrospective,

0:24:59 > 0:25:01it's a widely used facility by the public

0:25:01 > 0:25:03and this concept would fit very well.

0:25:03 > 0:25:06It would be a good benefit to the village.

0:25:06 > 0:25:08Hi, guys. My name's Simon, from the UK.

0:25:08 > 0:25:10How are you?

0:25:10 > 0:25:14- Would you say that that would be well-received here? - That would go down fairly well.

0:25:14 > 0:25:17- Yeah?- Yeah. I don't think you'd make a fortune out of it

0:25:17 > 0:25:19but you'd do all right.

0:25:19 > 0:25:21What about the look of it? Would that fit in?

0:25:21 > 0:25:23Beautifully old-fashioned.

0:25:25 > 0:25:29This could be a perfect home for his tricycles

0:25:29 > 0:25:33but with over 50% of new businesses failing Down Under,

0:25:33 > 0:25:37Simon knows he'll need many contacts if he's to break even,

0:25:37 > 0:25:39let alone make a profit.

0:25:39 > 0:25:43With the stakes so high, is he prepared to gamble on his family's future?

0:25:43 > 0:25:45It's time to vote for work.

0:25:45 > 0:25:47This was never going to be an easy decision.

0:25:47 > 0:25:49We have a very strong business back home

0:25:49 > 0:25:53but there's three big issues here which have swayed me.

0:25:53 > 0:25:55One is the climate. It's always going to be on our side.

0:25:55 > 0:25:59Two, there are raw opportunities everywhere. It's very apparent.

0:25:59 > 0:26:02And also, we've got a unique concept which isn't out here at all.

0:26:02 > 0:26:05With all those things in mind, my decision has to be...

0:26:08 > 0:26:10Australia.

0:26:13 > 0:26:16That all seems positive

0:26:16 > 0:26:20and Simon is very confident about the business opportunities.

0:26:20 > 0:26:23But if they're going to uproot their children,

0:26:23 > 0:26:27they need to be sure their new life is worth the upheaval.

0:26:27 > 0:26:29So, Simon and Kerry are taking the children

0:26:29 > 0:26:33to a junior life-saving carnival at Coochiemudlo Island.

0:26:33 > 0:26:37Marina is organising the games and is keen to get Becca involved.

0:26:37 > 0:26:40- Who are you, darling?- Rebecca. - And how old are you?- Eight.

0:26:40 > 0:26:42Eight, wow.

0:26:42 > 0:26:46- Do you want to go into the water? - You're a good little swimmer.

0:26:46 > 0:26:49When I say, "Competitors, ready," lift your head up.

0:26:49 > 0:26:54Becca is all set to join in when she gets cold feet.

0:26:54 > 0:26:57We don't pressure anyone. It's all about fun.

0:26:57 > 0:26:59OK?

0:26:59 > 0:27:02Can you show me confident Becca?

0:27:02 > 0:27:06- Yeah.- OK, you don't get to be scared because there's nothing to be scared about.

0:27:06 > 0:27:10Kerry knows just how important it is for the children to be happy and settled

0:27:10 > 0:27:14and fears they may struggle in Australia's sporty environment.

0:27:14 > 0:27:17We're not a very competitive country, I would say, back at home

0:27:17 > 0:27:20and Australia comes across as very competitive.

0:27:20 > 0:27:23How do you find that affects the children?

0:27:23 > 0:27:27As long as they finish, everybody's cheering and roaring

0:27:27 > 0:27:30and the kids are all given so much encouragement to do well.

0:27:30 > 0:27:33Not every kid is athletic, not every kid is academic

0:27:33 > 0:27:35but it's about having a go.

0:27:35 > 0:27:37Becca's fitting in at last,

0:27:37 > 0:27:41giving Mum a chance to quiz ex-pat Geraldine about emigrating.

0:27:41 > 0:27:45- Did you find it easy to make friends with the parents?- Absolutely.

0:27:45 > 0:27:46Very welcoming.

0:27:46 > 0:27:49It just takes a few months to get that settling period in.

0:27:49 > 0:27:52One of the things I find is the more you put in,

0:27:52 > 0:27:54the more you actually benefit.

0:27:54 > 0:27:56If we came over here and we just sat in the house,

0:27:56 > 0:27:58we wouldn't know people.

0:27:58 > 0:28:00There's barbecues and picnic tables

0:28:00 > 0:28:02and a patrolled beach where your kids are safe

0:28:02 > 0:28:04and this beautiful water

0:28:04 > 0:28:06and it's here all year round, for free.

0:28:06 > 0:28:11A lot of the time, we have to do indoor stuff and it is very expensive,

0:28:11 > 0:28:13so this lifestyle would be fantastic.

0:28:13 > 0:28:17The whole family seem to be getting into the swing of things

0:28:17 > 0:28:21but if they were to move, it would take time and effort to settle in.

0:28:21 > 0:28:23It's time to vote on lifestyle.

0:28:23 > 0:28:26We've had a really special day here on the beach

0:28:26 > 0:28:30and it just seems a very happy, very lazy, sunny morning,

0:28:30 > 0:28:33which we wouldn't necessarily have in the UK, so based on that...

0:28:33 > 0:28:37our decision will be...

0:28:38 > 0:28:39Australia.

0:28:39 > 0:28:41- Australia.- Australia.

0:28:41 > 0:28:43I voted Australia

0:28:43 > 0:28:47because I think of the lovely beaches that we don't get at home

0:28:47 > 0:28:53and I make friends easily and back on the beach there, I made friends.

0:28:56 > 0:29:00Well, they all seem to have been bitten by the Australia bug

0:29:00 > 0:29:04but there is the question of cost to consider.

0:29:04 > 0:29:07With no regular income until the business is established,

0:29:07 > 0:29:09can they really afford to move?

0:29:11 > 0:29:15We've prepared a breakdown of their UK and Australian expenses.

0:29:15 > 0:29:17OK.

0:29:17 > 0:29:19- SHE GASPS - Oh, my goodness.

0:29:19 > 0:29:21Shopping bill.

0:29:21 > 0:29:23It's almost double.

0:29:23 > 0:29:28- Do you know what? I think the best thing we can do is go on a diet...- Diet.

0:29:28 > 0:29:31and we'll get back to the level we were at, do you reckon?

0:29:31 > 0:29:34Potatoes. Three times the price.

0:29:34 > 0:29:37I am shocked. I am shocked at the cost of groceries.

0:29:37 > 0:29:39- Really shocked.- Here's a saving.

0:29:39 > 0:29:44- Holidays per year. We wouldn't go on holiday.- We'd need to go home.

0:29:44 > 0:29:47- Oh, yeah. Do we have to?- We have to take into consideration...

0:29:47 > 0:29:49the cost of going home.

0:29:49 > 0:29:52Rent's slightly more. It's not massively more.

0:29:52 > 0:29:58It is in comparison because you have to find another £3-4,000 a year.

0:29:58 > 0:30:03But we save on water and gas and we save on the council tax.

0:30:04 > 0:30:08The Wells know they'll be risking everything if they move.

0:30:08 > 0:30:11So after weighing up the costs of living in Australia,

0:30:11 > 0:30:15do Simon and Kerry think they can actually make ends meet?

0:30:15 > 0:30:17It's time to vote on the cost of living.

0:30:17 > 0:30:21All in all, it was very comparable, so on this, our vote goes to...

0:30:24 > 0:30:25- Australia.- Australia.

0:30:27 > 0:30:31Most of all, the lifestyle is free and that's not on the list, is it?

0:30:31 > 0:30:34- Yeah.- That's something that is invaluable and priceless.- Yeah.

0:30:34 > 0:30:37So, yeah, overall, definitely.

0:30:41 > 0:30:44Simon and Kerry may feel confident they can afford to move

0:30:44 > 0:30:49but the real cost is a human one and that's much harder to bear.

0:30:49 > 0:30:53In my heart of hearts, it is my family that keep me here,

0:30:53 > 0:30:55that hold me back.

0:30:55 > 0:30:58I'm aware that we may have to come back quite a few times over the years

0:30:58 > 0:31:02to see people who aren't well, you know, or bury people

0:31:02 > 0:31:03and that's an issue.

0:31:03 > 0:31:05I feel I owe a lot to my dad.

0:31:05 > 0:31:07As much as he'd probably say go,

0:31:07 > 0:31:11I'm not sure in his heart it's actually what he'd want us to do.

0:31:11 > 0:31:14Kerry knows the hardest part of making a move

0:31:14 > 0:31:16to the other side of the world

0:31:16 > 0:31:20is the emotional tug of leaving loved ones behind.

0:31:20 > 0:31:25We've prepared some messages from their friends and family back home.

0:31:27 > 0:31:30- Hello, Kerry and Simon and kids. - Hello, Kerry and Simon.

0:31:30 > 0:31:34Hello, Kerry, Simon, Becca and Ben.

0:31:34 > 0:31:37Hope you're having a really fabulous time in Australia.

0:31:37 > 0:31:40Missing you loads. Really, really, really missing you.

0:31:40 > 0:31:46Kerry is a free spirit but she's got a heart of gold.

0:31:46 > 0:31:49Anything wants doing, anyone wants anything doing,

0:31:49 > 0:31:52- Kerry will be there. - She's a good girl.

0:31:52 > 0:31:55My dad's lovely. We're really, really close.

0:31:55 > 0:31:58He's always there when I need him

0:31:58 > 0:32:03and I'd be lost without him, really, yeah.

0:32:03 > 0:32:07When Simon first told us that he was thinking of going to Australia,

0:32:07 > 0:32:11to emigrate to Australia, we were taken aback

0:32:11 > 0:32:13because it's such a long way away.

0:32:13 > 0:32:18- Kerry came over and they said it. - You was ill at the time, wasn't you?

0:32:18 > 0:32:20Yeah, yeah, we both were

0:32:20 > 0:32:22but, of course...

0:32:24 > 0:32:29I mean, I wouldn't be human if I didn't say I would be devastated if they went.

0:32:29 > 0:32:35Everybody's the same. Put a brave face on but it gets you there.

0:32:35 > 0:32:37If they did decide to stay in Australia,

0:32:37 > 0:32:42I think I will miss them more...

0:32:42 > 0:32:44more than I realise.

0:32:44 > 0:32:48I'd miss watching the kids grow up

0:32:48 > 0:32:52and being around them and them coming over to stay.

0:32:52 > 0:32:55I'll miss just popping in for a cup of tea

0:32:55 > 0:32:58and him just always being there because he's always there for me.

0:32:58 > 0:33:01And Kerry. They're just absolutely amazing.

0:33:01 > 0:33:04I shall miss him terribly.

0:33:04 > 0:33:07Really will because he's very close.

0:33:07 > 0:33:09He always sees us every week, doesn't he?

0:33:09 > 0:33:12- It's everything, really, about them, isn't it?- That's it.

0:33:12 > 0:33:15They're there. Kerry and Simon and the kids.

0:33:15 > 0:33:17And they are there.

0:33:17 > 0:33:20We're there and the children and their families are round there.

0:33:20 > 0:33:24But they are part of that block.

0:33:24 > 0:33:26If they want to start a block somewhere else...

0:33:26 > 0:33:30Our world's without Kerry and Simon and the kids.

0:33:30 > 0:33:33That's it. We'd have to change our world round.

0:33:33 > 0:33:37We sound like an old married couple, don't we?

0:33:37 > 0:33:39If Dad and Kerry decided to go to Australia,

0:33:39 > 0:33:42I'd miss them loads and loads and loads, I really would.

0:33:42 > 0:33:46I would never try to stop them in any way

0:33:46 > 0:33:48and I'd want the best for them and be happy for them

0:33:48 > 0:33:51but it would be a massive void in my life if they did go.

0:33:53 > 0:33:58We know it's your future and it's your life,

0:33:58 > 0:34:03so whatever you go along with, we'll be happy for you.

0:34:03 > 0:34:06We love you lots. Bye-bye.

0:34:06 > 0:34:10We're missing you. Harv and Jack keep asking when you're coming home.

0:34:10 > 0:34:15Please bear in mind, Dad, that it's a 50:50 whether we'll follow out after you.

0:34:15 > 0:34:18You need to make this decision for you and Kez and Becky and Ben.

0:34:18 > 0:34:20- We love dearly.- Dearly.

0:34:20 > 0:34:23- And it'll break our hearts..- Hearts. - if you go...- Go.

0:34:23 > 0:34:28- but we all love you...- And we will be over to see you, darling.

0:34:30 > 0:34:34- It's their decision.- We love them. - That's it. That says it all.

0:34:34 > 0:34:37We just love them to bits, don't we?

0:34:38 > 0:34:43- We just love them to bits, don't we? - All right. All right.

0:34:45 > 0:34:47- All right.- It's...

0:34:47 > 0:34:52- But...- I just love them. - I've told you not to get like that.

0:34:52 > 0:34:54- HE LAUGHS - I know.

0:34:58 > 0:35:02Look at yourself now. If you were living here and you saw that, how would you feel?

0:35:06 > 0:35:12The same as I feel now, Si, but like Dad said and Auntie Ann,

0:35:12 > 0:35:16she's getting over a major, major illness and she's already saving

0:35:16 > 0:35:19to come over, you know?

0:35:20 > 0:35:22- BECCA SOBBING - Tell us what upset you.

0:35:24 > 0:35:26When Auntie Ann started crying.

0:35:26 > 0:35:29You're very close to your aunt, aren't you?

0:35:29 > 0:35:31Mm?

0:35:35 > 0:35:36So was it just Auntie Ann?

0:35:37 > 0:35:40- Who else?- All of them.- Everything.

0:35:40 > 0:35:43Even Nanny and Grandpy? Those silly sausages?

0:35:44 > 0:35:47- They even made me wobble. - Your mum. I can't believe your mum.

0:35:47 > 0:35:51Lindsey. Lindsey's a big one, as well.

0:35:51 > 0:35:54- I thought she was just brilliant then.- She is brilliant.

0:35:54 > 0:35:58- What she said really was heartfelt and tugged at me.- Yeah.

0:35:58 > 0:36:00Cos I know we're there for her

0:36:00 > 0:36:03and I know we all love each other as one big family

0:36:03 > 0:36:07but to see her and hear it was different.

0:36:07 > 0:36:09We do see Linds every day and we have the boys

0:36:09 > 0:36:12- three, four times a week.- Mm.

0:36:12 > 0:36:15And that's just not going to happen if they're not with us.

0:36:15 > 0:36:20And they're very much part of Becca and Ben's life.

0:36:21 > 0:36:24I want to change things. I want a better life for you and Ben

0:36:24 > 0:36:27and a better life for Harvey and Jack as well.

0:36:27 > 0:36:30Because what we've got at home isn't particularly great.

0:36:30 > 0:36:35I don't want to leave Auntie Ann and Grandad neither.

0:36:35 > 0:36:38Well, they'll come and see us more times than you know.

0:36:38 > 0:36:40We're leaving our family behind.

0:36:40 > 0:36:44I know, we'll put them all in a vacuum pack

0:36:44 > 0:36:47and we'll sneak them in our suitcase.

0:36:47 > 0:36:51I don't know what the answer is, looking at that video,

0:36:51 > 0:36:53whatever your decision's going to be,

0:36:53 > 0:36:55and I don't know what it's going to be,

0:36:55 > 0:36:58- would that have changed your mind? - I don't think it would.

0:36:58 > 0:37:02But I can't definitely say. I really can't.

0:37:02 > 0:37:05I've got to look at the kids as well. Becca's destroyed by it.

0:37:13 > 0:37:16It's always hard seeing messages from loved ones

0:37:16 > 0:37:21but that was really tough, especially for young Becca.

0:37:21 > 0:37:24They have a lot of soul searching to do

0:37:24 > 0:37:27before they make up their minds at the end of the week.

0:37:33 > 0:37:35If Kerry's going to leave her loved ones behind,

0:37:35 > 0:37:39she needs to know she'll be able to make new friends in Australia.

0:37:39 > 0:37:41They're meeting up with Louise and Adrian Warner

0:37:41 > 0:37:46who made the heart-wrenching move from the UK five years ago.

0:37:46 > 0:37:48Becca's settling in with her new friends,

0:37:48 > 0:37:53giving Mum and Dad the chance to find out about the realities of life Down Under.

0:37:53 > 0:37:56What were your reasons for leaving England and coming to Oz?

0:37:56 > 0:38:01It's a great place to bring up kids. It's a great place to start a business.

0:38:01 > 0:38:04Erm... It's the land of opportunity.

0:38:04 > 0:38:07So did you have any regrets at all?

0:38:07 > 0:38:09I've got to say, not at all.

0:38:09 > 0:38:12Not one. It's great.

0:38:12 > 0:38:14- That's pretty conclusive.- Yeah!

0:38:14 > 0:38:17That's just what Simon wanted to hear

0:38:17 > 0:38:20but Kerry's worried about how she'll settle in.

0:38:20 > 0:38:22Have you found it easy to make new friends?

0:38:22 > 0:38:27You've moved over with nobody here. How have you found that?

0:38:27 > 0:38:31You've got to make the effort. You've got to push yourself out your comfort zone

0:38:31 > 0:38:32to put yourself forward

0:38:32 > 0:38:35because they've already got their friends network.

0:38:35 > 0:38:40So you join clubs and coffee mornings and groups and so on.

0:38:40 > 0:38:43Gradually, because, obviously, friendships take a while to build,

0:38:43 > 0:38:47but I've got a good set of friends now over the years we've been here.

0:38:47 > 0:38:49It's just as daunting as she thought.

0:38:49 > 0:38:53Can Kerry really find the confidence to leave the comfort of home

0:38:53 > 0:38:54and start again from scratch?

0:38:58 > 0:39:02The Wells are at the end of their challenging week in Australia

0:39:02 > 0:39:05and soon they'll have to make the heart-wrenching decision

0:39:05 > 0:39:10whether to stay in the UK or to move Down Under.

0:39:10 > 0:39:13Simon is desperate to move his family to Australia.

0:39:13 > 0:39:15My main reason for being here and doing this

0:39:15 > 0:39:18is to have my children grow up in this environment

0:39:18 > 0:39:21and to pass on a solid business to them.

0:39:21 > 0:39:24And I think it's a very positive environment here

0:39:24 > 0:39:26and I want to be here, to be fair.

0:39:26 > 0:39:28But for Kerry, everything's up in the air.

0:39:28 > 0:39:31My biggest reservation is leaving my family

0:39:31 > 0:39:34and also, trying to start out a completely new life.

0:39:34 > 0:39:37It's like being reborn again, having to start everything again,

0:39:37 > 0:39:40everything you know, all your comforts.

0:39:40 > 0:39:43The whole thought of doing it scares the hell out of me,

0:39:43 > 0:39:49so I don't know whether it would make me feel confident because I've done it

0:39:49 > 0:39:51or frightened and silly.

0:39:51 > 0:39:54I'm not sure whether she says to me what I want to hear

0:39:54 > 0:39:56or what she really feels, that's the problem.

0:39:56 > 0:39:59So I guess we'll find out at the last minute.

0:39:59 > 0:40:04I know that it probably is the best thing we could do for the children

0:40:04 > 0:40:09but my own lack of confidence just... It does hold me back.

0:40:09 > 0:40:11If Kerry was to make the decision now

0:40:11 > 0:40:14I would think she would not know what to do.

0:40:14 > 0:40:16I would think it's in the balance.

0:40:16 > 0:40:21Australia is his dream but sometimes things aren't meant to be.

0:40:21 > 0:40:24If it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be.

0:40:24 > 0:40:26He will find another dream.

0:40:27 > 0:40:32So will Kerry find the strength to support Simon's desperate desire

0:40:32 > 0:40:34to build a better life Down Under?

0:40:34 > 0:40:37Or will her fears end his dream for good?

0:40:37 > 0:40:41It's time to find out.

0:40:41 > 0:40:44We've had a really lovely time here in Australia this week.

0:40:44 > 0:40:48It's been very informative and we've met some really lovely people.

0:40:48 > 0:40:50We've enjoyed our work experiences

0:40:50 > 0:40:52and the lifestyle has been excellent.

0:40:52 > 0:40:54The houses were a bit indifferent

0:40:54 > 0:40:58but it was a magical week and we've had a fantastic time.

0:40:58 > 0:41:00- So the Wells family's...- Go away!

0:41:00 > 0:41:01..vote will be...

0:41:08 > 0:41:11- Australia.- Australia!- Undecided.

0:41:11 > 0:41:14- No, that's Australia, isn't it? - You've gone to Australia?

0:41:15 > 0:41:20You lovely person, you. I thought you were going to go halfway.

0:41:20 > 0:41:23- That's fantastic.- No, no.- Why?

0:41:23 > 0:41:26I just think the people were fantastic out here, Si,

0:41:26 > 0:41:29the properties, yeah, OK, hit and miss

0:41:29 > 0:41:31but I'm sure we can find something.

0:41:31 > 0:41:34The lifestyle for the children will be fantastic.

0:41:34 > 0:41:37So I think it could be great for all of us.

0:41:37 > 0:41:40And friends and family, they'll come out and see us.

0:41:40 > 0:41:43- For the kids, it's going to be a better life.- Definitely.

0:41:43 > 0:41:46- Becca, what's your reasons? - She's undecided.

0:41:46 > 0:41:49- So you're sitting on the fence? - Cos I'm going to miss Harv and Jack

0:41:49 > 0:41:52and because I also like it here.

0:41:52 > 0:41:54- Fair enough.- Yeah, OK.

0:41:54 > 0:41:57- And Ben wants to live in Shoreham? - Ben, where do you want to live?

0:41:57 > 0:41:59- Shoreham.- In Shoreham.- Ah!

0:41:59 > 0:42:03- I'm sure we can change your mind, little fella.- Why not Australia?

0:42:03 > 0:42:06- Because I like Shoreham the best. - Do you?- OK.

0:42:07 > 0:42:12Making such a huge decision is never easy

0:42:12 > 0:42:15but in the end, Simon and Kerry are prepared to risk everything

0:42:15 > 0:42:17they put into their UK business

0:42:17 > 0:42:20for the chance of a better life for their whole family

0:42:20 > 0:42:22in Australia.

0:42:22 > 0:42:24We wish them all the very best.

0:42:24 > 0:42:28Join us again when we catch up with another family
