0:45:01 > 0:45:05Convincing your partner to give up the life they love for a new start

0:45:05 > 0:45:10is no easy matter, especially if it's on the other side of the world.

0:45:10 > 0:45:13But when your dream is based on a distant memory,

0:45:13 > 0:45:16would you be willing to risk your whole future for it?

0:45:18 > 0:45:22If you're desperate to return to the place you love...

0:45:22 > 0:45:24I almost felt my business with Australia wasn't finished.

0:45:24 > 0:45:27..but the dream seems out of your reach...

0:45:27 > 0:45:29It makes me a bit nervous to think

0:45:29 > 0:45:31whether we can afford to live here at all.

0:45:31 > 0:45:35..and leaving your family behind is unbearable...

0:45:35 > 0:45:39Ike and Reuben know I would miss them more than I could ever say.

0:45:39 > 0:45:43Would you be able to give up everything for a new life Down Under?

0:46:05 > 0:46:09With its 30,000 miles of coastline and sunny climate,

0:46:09 > 0:46:12life in Australia has long been a favourite destination

0:46:12 > 0:46:16for Brits dreaming of a new life abroad.

0:46:16 > 0:46:19But when around 10,000 return home each year

0:46:19 > 0:46:22with their dreams in ruins, sometimes a life Down Under

0:46:22 > 0:46:25isn't all it's cracked up to be.

0:46:26 > 0:46:28Over the next seven days,

0:46:28 > 0:46:30the Afanasievs will get to experience

0:46:30 > 0:46:33the reality of living Down Under.

0:46:33 > 0:46:35At the end of it,

0:46:35 > 0:46:37they'll have to face a life-changing decision -

0:46:37 > 0:46:41whether to stay in the UK or to move to Australia.

0:46:42 > 0:46:45They'll be travelling to Sydney. Having been there before,

0:46:45 > 0:46:49they're familiar with the journey, and what a journey it is.

0:46:49 > 0:46:5110,000 miles and 24 hours in the air.

0:46:51 > 0:46:54Landing in the early hours has brought home

0:46:54 > 0:46:56just how far they have come.

0:46:56 > 0:46:58The trip over was quite long.

0:46:58 > 0:47:01Yes, but considering how far it was, it wasn't bad.

0:47:01 > 0:47:04It was a lot better than I thought he was going to be.

0:47:04 > 0:47:07- These guys were really good. - We were really good.- You were.

0:47:07 > 0:47:10It's a short journey to their rental property,

0:47:10 > 0:47:12but a long way from home in Newcastle.

0:47:14 > 0:47:17In the UK, the Afanasievs live in this three-bedroom semi.

0:47:17 > 0:47:21There's Louise, Tosh and their two boys, Reuben, who's four,

0:47:21 > 0:47:23and two-year-old Ike.

0:47:28 > 0:47:33Both lived the single life in Australia in their early 20s.

0:47:33 > 0:47:35I lived in Melbourne for a couple of years

0:47:35 > 0:47:37when I was younger, ten years ago.

0:47:37 > 0:47:41I was there in the early '90s when I was 20.

0:47:41 > 0:47:45But life was very different then. I was single, I worked as a baker,

0:47:45 > 0:47:47which meant I worked through the night.

0:47:47 > 0:47:48I had a really great time.

0:47:48 > 0:47:52I went with a friend, who is Australian. She was from Sydney.

0:47:52 > 0:47:56What I saw was the potential for a really fantastic lifestyle.

0:47:56 > 0:47:58When I left, I didn't feel,

0:47:58 > 0:48:02"Oh, I could live here and I can't wait to go back."

0:48:02 > 0:48:03I didn't feel that.

0:48:03 > 0:48:07I almost felt, coming away, my business with Australia wasn't finished yet.

0:48:07 > 0:48:10Several years later, they're now happily married with a young family,

0:48:10 > 0:48:14a lovely home and stable jobs. Before for at least one of them,

0:48:14 > 0:48:18the idea of life Down Under his still very much alive.

0:48:18 > 0:48:20The kids came into our lives,

0:48:20 > 0:48:24and I suddenly wanted to share what I feel about that place

0:48:24 > 0:48:28with them and I wanted to show them a different life.

0:48:28 > 0:48:32But Tosh knows Louise doesn't share his dream

0:48:32 > 0:48:35and needs to be convinced it's the right move.

0:48:35 > 0:48:37Louise has got mixed feelings about the move.

0:48:37 > 0:48:41It's not an outright no. If it was, there wouldn't be a discussion.

0:48:41 > 0:48:45It all comes down to whether she wants to give up

0:48:45 > 0:48:50what we've got here in order to achieve a how much better life?

0:48:50 > 0:48:53For Louise, though, it's not a straightforward decision.

0:48:53 > 0:48:56They'll be risking everything they've worked so hard to achieve.

0:48:56 > 0:49:01If we move there, we're leaving behind family and friends.

0:49:01 > 0:49:05We're taking Reuben out of a fantastic school

0:49:05 > 0:49:07and a lovely house in a lovely neighbourhood.

0:49:07 > 0:49:09Tosh has got a fantastic job here, as well.

0:49:09 > 0:49:13It is leaving that behind, I think, that is the big thing.

0:49:13 > 0:49:16And it is not just the lice are they would be leaving behind.

0:49:16 > 0:49:19They would be making the tough decision to say goodbye to

0:49:19 > 0:49:21Louise's parents.

0:49:21 > 0:49:25We have ten minutes from my parents, who help as a great deal with

0:49:25 > 0:49:27the children, with childcare,

0:49:27 > 0:49:31'even if it's just for an hour or picking up from school and dropping off.

0:49:31 > 0:49:37'It's a big part of this decision. I feel that it's probably

0:49:37 > 0:49:40'the deciding factor, really, when it comes down to it.'

0:49:40 > 0:49:44Yeah. Basically, leaving them behind would be very, very hard.

0:49:51 > 0:49:53If we decide to go.

0:49:58 > 0:50:01With stunning scenery and a buzzing lifestyle,

0:50:01 > 0:50:05Tosh and Louise want to find out if Sydney could be for them.

0:50:05 > 0:50:08They've both visited the city in the past,

0:50:08 > 0:50:12so how will the modern-day version compare with what they remember?

0:50:13 > 0:50:16They'll be staying in the beach town of Avalon,

0:50:16 > 0:50:18north of Central Sydney.

0:50:18 > 0:50:20By the time they reach their base,

0:50:20 > 0:50:23they're eager to see what Australia has to offer.

0:50:23 > 0:50:24Wow!

0:50:24 > 0:50:26Wow!

0:50:29 > 0:50:33- Oh, wow.- Look at all this! - This is beautiful.

0:50:33 > 0:50:37This is just right up our street, isn't it? Oh, wow!

0:50:37 > 0:50:42- We've got a big back garden! - Look at that, you can see the sea!

0:50:42 > 0:50:46This three-bedroom house is right next to the beach, with views to die for.

0:50:46 > 0:50:52- Perfect family entertainment. - I love the idea of coming out here,

0:50:52 > 0:50:55sitting out here for 20 minutes with a coffee before going to work.

0:50:55 > 0:50:58You wouldn't feel like you were going to work.

0:50:58 > 0:51:01It's amazing. Do they have squatters' rights here?

0:51:03 > 0:51:06But Louise is already having doubts about

0:51:06 > 0:51:08whether they can afford this move.

0:51:08 > 0:51:12I've got very mixed emotions about the week ahead, because you hear

0:51:12 > 0:51:16so many conflicting things about how it's so expensive here now

0:51:16 > 0:51:20and, you know, it's not what it was five years ago.

0:51:20 > 0:51:22It's not so black and white.

0:51:28 > 0:51:32Louise and Tosh have set their hearts on a typical Aussie home -

0:51:32 > 0:51:34open-plan and close to the sea.

0:51:34 > 0:51:36But with Sydney's property prices

0:51:36 > 0:51:38being amongst the highest in the world,

0:51:38 > 0:51:41will they be able to afford the home they want?

0:51:43 > 0:51:46Back in the UK, they Afanasievs live in a three-bedroom semi

0:51:46 > 0:51:50which they bought in 2010. They're not short of a few ideas

0:51:50 > 0:51:54when it comes to their dream house in Australia.

0:51:54 > 0:51:57My ideal house would be very open-plan.

0:51:57 > 0:52:01- We'd have to have a minimum of three bedrooms.- Indoor-outdoor area.

0:52:01 > 0:52:04- The usual cliches.- A nice pool.

0:52:05 > 0:52:06Not much, really.

0:52:06 > 0:52:10What we don't want to do is take a step back from where we are now.

0:52:10 > 0:52:14It'd got to be as good as or better than what we have already.

0:52:14 > 0:52:18They could have a budget of around £300,000.

0:52:18 > 0:52:23However, house prices in Sydney average nearly £400,000,

0:52:23 > 0:52:28double what they were ten years ago when Tosh and Louise were last here.

0:52:28 > 0:52:30Will they be able to afford their dream house?

0:52:30 > 0:52:34Today we're going to give them a taste of Sydney's housing market.

0:52:34 > 0:52:36We'll show them three different properties

0:52:36 > 0:52:39based around their budget and what they want from a home.

0:52:39 > 0:52:43Only after they've seen each one will we reveal to Louise and Tosh

0:52:43 > 0:52:44just how much they cost.

0:52:47 > 0:52:50The first property is close to Avalon, but on the High Street.

0:52:50 > 0:52:52Set right amongst the shops and cafes

0:52:52 > 0:52:56and with popular beaches nearby, it should give Tosh and Louise

0:52:56 > 0:52:59the cosmopolitan lifestyle they're after.

0:52:59 > 0:53:01This two-bedroom flat should be a clue

0:53:01 > 0:53:03to just how expensive Sydney is.

0:53:03 > 0:53:08- The location's good.- Yes, nice and central. Close to cafes.

0:53:08 > 0:53:11It's got a balcony. Obviously, there won't be a garden.

0:53:11 > 0:53:14- Flat says something about the affordability.- Yes, it does.

0:53:14 > 0:53:18And a flat generally means one thing - stairs.

0:53:19 > 0:53:21Got to go up another flight, Reuben.

0:53:21 > 0:53:24- Nice outside.- Yeah.

0:53:24 > 0:53:27I wonder what number we'll be at?

0:53:27 > 0:53:29And in this case, lots of them.

0:53:30 > 0:53:34- Hopefully it will be worth the effort.- Come on, in we go.

0:53:34 > 0:53:38Oh, look, there's a bathroom, Nice, big shower.

0:53:38 > 0:53:43Nice and bright, isn't it? Shall we have a look? It's quite small.

0:53:43 > 0:53:44It is.

0:53:46 > 0:53:48It's nice. Good-sized balcony.

0:53:48 > 0:53:50- I like the fact that it's got the open top.- Yeah.

0:53:50 > 0:53:53- I really like fair.- That's nice. Downstairs would be quite enclosed.

0:53:53 > 0:53:57- You get loads of light.- Yeah. - I love the view. I really do.

0:53:57 > 0:54:00When we can't afford to eat out, we can watch other people doing it.

0:54:03 > 0:54:06I'm not sure that's something to look forward to, Tosh!

0:54:06 > 0:54:10- Perhaps it's time to go in and look at the bedrooms.- This is nice.- Yeah.

0:54:10 > 0:54:13- It s got a balcony as well. - I think it's lovely.

0:54:13 > 0:54:18It is, but, you know, there is the thing that it's only got two bedrooms, which is fine for us,

0:54:18 > 0:54:22but we are expecting my parents to come and visit.

0:54:22 > 0:54:25It wouldn't be a permanent place, really.

0:54:25 > 0:54:29But it would be a kind of landing pad just to get settled.

0:54:29 > 0:54:32It's one of those things. We need to see how much this goes for.

0:54:32 > 0:54:34It might be, this is kind of it for us,

0:54:34 > 0:54:37- and if that is the case, that is part of the decision.- Yes.

0:54:39 > 0:54:42Louise and Tosh may only see this flat as a stepping stone to

0:54:42 > 0:54:46something bigger, but they don't know the actual price yet.

0:54:46 > 0:54:50This property only has two bedrooms and no garden for the children.

0:54:50 > 0:54:54Time to find out the price.

0:54:54 > 0:54:59It's not what I envisage us living in in Australia.

0:54:59 > 0:55:03I understand what you're saying about it being a landing pad and stuff,

0:55:03 > 0:55:06but I also don't want be moving around all the time.

0:55:08 > 0:55:11- Wow, £400,000.- I'm a tiger! Grr!

0:55:11 > 0:55:13Yes, that's... That's quite...

0:55:13 > 0:55:15That's a lot.

0:55:15 > 0:55:18This flat is well over their £300,000 budget

0:55:18 > 0:55:22and it's not even somewhere they'd want to live.

0:55:22 > 0:55:24Louise is already having grave doubts.

0:55:24 > 0:55:27I'm a little bit nervous now to look at the other properties,

0:55:27 > 0:55:30because from the size of this and everything,

0:55:30 > 0:55:33I know it's a central location, but it makes me

0:55:33 > 0:55:37a little bit nervous to think that that's what we're starting off on.

0:55:39 > 0:55:42And whether we can afford to live here at all.

0:55:42 > 0:55:44It's not a good start.

0:55:44 > 0:55:48Tosh's dream of Australia is already looking precarious.

0:55:48 > 0:55:52He really needs the next place to make a better impression on Louise.

0:55:53 > 0:55:56The second property is in the neighbourhood Bilgola.

0:55:56 > 0:56:00It's a quiet, leafy area, and with beaches and parks nearby,

0:56:00 > 0:56:03it does mean it's more suitable for a young family.

0:56:03 > 0:56:06The Afanasievs should get more house for their party...

0:56:07 > 0:56:09..as Tosh is quick to spot.

0:56:09 > 0:56:13It looks like it's got amazing potential.

0:56:13 > 0:56:17It looks quite big, actually. I love the established trees and stuff.

0:56:17 > 0:56:20- That's really good. This is more what had in mind.- Yeah.

0:56:20 > 0:56:24The house looks amazing. Obviously, it is a bit of a project.

0:56:24 > 0:56:25There's some work to do.

0:56:27 > 0:56:31This three-bedroom house does need some work, but will it put them off?

0:56:32 > 0:56:35Wow, look at this entrance. This could be amazing.

0:56:35 > 0:56:38- This could be cool if you fixed it up.- I love this big glass thing.

0:56:39 > 0:56:41Wow.

0:56:41 > 0:56:45It seems Louise and Tosh can see the potential.

0:56:47 > 0:56:50- Look at the view out there. That is amazing.- It's priceless.

0:56:50 > 0:56:54- The balcony's huge. - You can see the boats from up here.

0:56:54 > 0:56:56However, Louise has one big problem.

0:56:56 > 0:57:01Considering there's so much glass and window, I find it quite dark.

0:57:01 > 0:57:04I know what you're saying, but I think on a really hot day,

0:57:04 > 0:57:07to have all this glass, and if you couldn't sit anywhere

0:57:07 > 0:57:09without the sun streaming in, it might be oppressive,

0:57:09 > 0:57:13- so you'd probably be quite grateful of that.- Could point, Tosh.

0:57:13 > 0:57:16Unfortunately, the bedrooms are not helping win his case.

0:57:16 > 0:57:20- I think it's too dark. I couldn't live anywhere this dark. - It's very dark.

0:57:20 > 0:57:24And this is another bedroom. I would say it's quite damp as well.

0:57:24 > 0:57:28- What's that going on there?- It's like all on the walls as well.

0:57:28 > 0:57:32- Yeah.- And that balcony seems to have rotted away.- Eroded.

0:57:33 > 0:57:39It would cost a fortune to put it right, To make it safe for the boys

0:57:39 > 0:57:42to be living in. It would cost a fortune.

0:57:42 > 0:57:45All the stairs, all the railings would have to change.

0:57:45 > 0:57:48- And there's no garden, is there? - I don't think so.

0:57:48 > 0:57:51This house may be spacious, but it does need plenty of work.

0:57:51 > 0:57:55Will that mean it comes at an affordable price?

0:57:55 > 0:57:58Or is a flat all they can get in their budget?

0:57:58 > 0:58:01- It's time to find out the price. - I'm intrigued.

0:58:01 > 0:58:05I get a feeling it's one of those ones where it's a bargain

0:58:05 > 0:58:09because of where it is and things and because it's a doer-upper,

0:58:09 > 0:58:13but I get the feeling it's not going to be cheap enough for us.

0:58:13 > 0:58:15- Shall we have a look?- Go on, then.

0:58:17 > 0:58:22- Hmm. £450,000. I'm quite surprised at that.- Lower or higher?

0:58:22 > 0:58:25- I thought it would be higher.- Yeah.

0:58:25 > 0:58:28But then you've got to add on the hundred thousand for renovation, so say 550.

0:58:28 > 0:58:32- But then, obviously, they might take offers.- They might do.

0:58:32 > 0:58:35Because of the state of it, they might be keen to shift it.

0:58:35 > 0:58:37So you could end up paying £450,000 for it

0:58:37 > 0:58:40- and then it would be... - Then it's looking different.- Yeah.

0:58:40 > 0:58:43- Especially when you compare it to 400 for the flat.- Exactly.

0:58:43 > 0:58:46- Then it's a different story. - You get a lot of house.

0:58:46 > 0:58:49- I think it's quite a good price. - I'm quite surprised. It's good.

0:58:49 > 0:58:52I'm not convinced by their maths.

0:58:52 > 0:58:56Even if they could get £100,000 knocked off the price of this property,

0:58:56 > 0:59:00it would still be over their budget of 300,000.

0:59:00 > 0:59:03Are Tosh and Louise being realistic about what they can afford?

0:59:05 > 0:59:08Maybe the third property will make things clearer.

0:59:08 > 0:59:09Like the first, it's in Avalon,

0:59:09 > 0:59:13but this time in a quieter residential part.

0:59:13 > 0:59:17It's architect-designed with three bedrooms, gardens and a pool.

0:59:17 > 0:59:20Could this be the dream house Louise is after?

0:59:20 > 0:59:22Wow! This looks nice, doesn't it?

0:59:22 > 0:59:23Ooh!

0:59:23 > 0:59:27- Garden, nice garden.- Very nice.

0:59:27 > 0:59:31- I like it. Oh, wow, this is nice, isn't it?- This is really nice.

0:59:31 > 0:59:35- This is lovely.- This is really beautiful.- Yeah, it's lovely.

0:59:35 > 0:59:38This is kind of what you think about, isn't it,

0:59:38 > 0:59:39this kind of open-plan thing.

0:59:39 > 0:59:42Loads of light, it's lovely and open.

0:59:42 > 0:59:46You couldn't get a better location, really. You can see water.

0:59:46 > 0:59:49- First impression, yeah, very nice. - Very nice.

0:59:49 > 0:59:51Well, so far, so good with this house.

0:59:51 > 0:59:55- They're quite small, but then... - They're not massive,

0:59:55 > 0:59:59but I suppose the emphasis is not on sitting in your room.

0:59:59 > 1:00:02- This is good, isn't it? - Oh, yeah, look at that.

1:00:04 > 1:00:07- That's really good. That's really handy, actually.- Yeah.

1:00:07 > 1:00:09- So you can have two or one. - Very good.

1:00:09 > 1:00:13Louise seems prepared to overlook the smallish bedrooms.

1:00:13 > 1:00:17- All that's left is the back garden. - Look at that!

1:00:17 > 1:00:19This is more us, it's more family.

1:00:19 > 1:00:23You've got your outside area both front and back, hasn't it?

1:00:23 > 1:00:26You know, especially with two young boys, that's what you need,

1:00:26 > 1:00:29you don't want to be setting up slides and stuff on balconies,

1:00:29 > 1:00:33so yeah, this I think, practically, for what we need now,

1:00:33 > 1:00:35this ticks all the boxes.

1:00:35 > 1:00:37It's lovely, I love it!

1:00:39 > 1:00:44I'm scared to know how much it's going to be. Probably going to be way out of our reach.

1:00:44 > 1:00:46It's too perfect, isn't it?

1:00:47 > 1:00:50This house has got both Louise and Tosh excited

1:00:50 > 1:00:53but they still don't know the price.

1:00:53 > 1:00:57It has everything they want from Australian living but will it be out of their reach?

1:00:57 > 1:01:00This is going to be a jump from the last one cos the last one

1:01:00 > 1:01:02had a lot of work to be done.

1:01:02 > 1:01:06Um, and this is going to be a big jump from that. Let's find out.

1:01:08 > 1:01:10- Mmm!- For what you get... - We can buy it!

1:01:10 > 1:01:13For what you get, I mean, that, really...

1:01:13 > 1:01:17I thought it was going to be a lot more. That's...

1:01:17 > 1:01:19That's very reasonable.

1:01:19 > 1:01:20With the pool and...

1:01:22 > 1:01:26It might be a reasonable price for this house

1:01:26 > 1:01:29but it's nearly £200,000 over they're budget.

1:01:29 > 1:01:32Are Tosh and Louise letting their excitement

1:01:32 > 1:01:36overtake the reality of what they can afford?

1:01:36 > 1:01:40So, the first property was only something Tosh or Louise

1:01:40 > 1:01:43would consider as a stepping stone.

1:01:43 > 1:01:47The second property was too dark and needed too much work.

1:01:48 > 1:01:51The last house was everything they'd hoped for

1:01:51 > 1:01:54but was well above their budget.

1:01:54 > 1:01:57So what's the verdict?

1:01:57 > 1:02:00Can they really see themselves giving up their home in Newcastle?

1:02:00 > 1:02:03OK, we've seen our three properties today,

1:02:03 > 1:02:06it's been really interesting and I think it's time to vote.

1:02:09 > 1:02:11ALL: Australia!

1:02:11 > 1:02:13Australia!

1:02:14 > 1:02:19It's great news for Tosh, he's one step closer to his Australian dream.

1:02:19 > 1:02:23When we came out of the first apartment this morning, I didn't

1:02:23 > 1:02:25think I was going to be voting Australia at this point in time.

1:02:25 > 1:02:29I thought that it was going to be out of our reach.

1:02:29 > 1:02:31In the UK if we looked at houses in that price range

1:02:31 > 1:02:33we wouldn't be able to afford it,

1:02:33 > 1:02:38- so, also this does hinge on what our earning power is here.- Yeah.

1:02:38 > 1:02:42Everything now rides on the next few days.

1:02:42 > 1:02:44Can Tosh earn enough to make Australia a reality

1:02:44 > 1:02:47or will the move remain a pipe dream?

1:02:52 > 1:02:56Finding out the cost of property in modern day Sydney,

1:02:56 > 1:03:00was an eye-opening experience for the whole family.

1:03:00 > 1:03:06Even so, a vote for Oz has left Tosh feeling optimistic about the move.

1:03:06 > 1:03:09Now the pressure's firmly on his shoulders to find a job

1:03:09 > 1:03:12that pays a lot more than his current salary

1:03:12 > 1:03:14if they're to afford the home they want.

1:03:16 > 1:03:20Back in the UK Tosh works as a computer software developer

1:03:20 > 1:03:22earning around £40,000 a year.

1:03:22 > 1:03:26We've arranged for him to spend a day with a software design

1:03:26 > 1:03:28company in the centre of Sydney.

1:03:28 > 1:03:33Tosh is aware the entire move is riding on what he finds out today.

1:03:34 > 1:03:37Finding the right job is key for this move.

1:03:37 > 1:03:41Back home we've got a good life - a lovely house, I've got a good job,

1:03:41 > 1:03:44so we'd have to see quite a big improvement by moving here.

1:03:46 > 1:03:49Louise works part-time in a shop but will be at home in Australia

1:03:49 > 1:03:51until the children are settled.

1:03:51 > 1:03:55She wants to know that schools here are as good as those back home.

1:03:55 > 1:03:58While Ike is with a childminder,

1:03:58 > 1:04:00she and Reuben are off to check out a local pre-school.

1:04:01 > 1:04:03Go on, in you go. In you go!

1:04:06 > 1:04:09- Hi.- Hello!- This is Reuben, I'm Louise, nice to meet you.

1:04:09 > 1:04:13Reuben is it? Hello, you can come in and have a little look around with

1:04:13 > 1:04:14the kids if you like?

1:04:14 > 1:04:19- I'll show mum round as well, eh? - So how many children do you have?

1:04:19 > 1:04:23- We have 29 a day. - Yes. Are they here all day?

1:04:23 > 1:04:24Yep, from 9 until 3.

1:04:27 > 1:04:30While Louise carries on with her fact finding,

1:04:30 > 1:04:33Tosh has arrived in the city and is meeting with company director Michael Lam.

1:04:33 > 1:04:38- Hi, Tosh, nice to meet you. Welcome. Welcome to Sydney.- Thank you.

1:04:38 > 1:04:42Come through we'll go to the back room, meet some team members

1:04:42 > 1:04:44and show you what we do around here.

1:04:44 > 1:04:45Brilliant.

1:04:47 > 1:04:50The company develop a wide range of software

1:04:50 > 1:04:52so it should be a great chance for Tosh to find out

1:04:52 > 1:04:56about the possibility of work in Sydney.

1:04:57 > 1:05:00- Hi guys.- Morning! - Mags, this is Tosh.- Hi Mags.

1:05:00 > 1:05:03Mags is the project manager on Hubblr.

1:05:03 > 1:05:07This is one of our project teams, we have others,

1:05:07 > 1:05:11but it's a project that we're looking to launch fairly soon

1:05:11 > 1:05:15so we've got these guys working on it soon, pushing away.

1:05:15 > 1:05:16Sure.

1:05:16 > 1:05:19If you want to sit down we can, um, have a glass of water

1:05:19 > 1:05:22and you can ask me some questions you might have.

1:05:22 > 1:05:27At the school, Louise is also getting to the important questions.

1:05:27 > 1:05:29Being able to get Reuben and Ike

1:05:29 > 1:05:32into a decent school is crucial to any move.

1:05:33 > 1:05:36- So, what are the fees?- 42 a day.

1:05:36 > 1:05:39- Right.- If you're coming for the three days it's per day.

1:05:39 > 1:05:44- Is there a waiting list? - There sure is, it's quite a high demand at the moment -

1:05:44 > 1:05:48quite a long waiting list here.

1:05:48 > 1:05:51And we have a lot of siblings that are here so they often get

1:05:51 > 1:05:54sort of first priority cos the family's already in here.

1:05:54 > 1:05:59Cos that would be my issue, if we suddenly arrived...

1:05:59 > 1:06:02then we'd kind of have to put his name down

1:06:02 > 1:06:05prior to us coming, wouldn't we?

1:06:05 > 1:06:09It would maybe help, if you knew friends in the area or something

1:06:09 > 1:06:14and they could talk to us and we've even had a few people organise it from overseas,

1:06:14 > 1:06:17just calling and getting their name down, saying, we're going

1:06:17 > 1:06:21to be there June can they come in and see you, will there be a spot?

1:06:21 > 1:06:25The problems of getting into a good school are just like those in the UK.

1:06:25 > 1:06:30However, the fees for schooling until the boys are six will mean even more money pressures.

1:06:32 > 1:06:35Back in the city, it's all down to Tosh's work potential.

1:06:35 > 1:06:38Could you see someone like me fitting in the company

1:06:38 > 1:06:40and being a part of it?

1:06:40 > 1:06:42Yeah, I think so.

1:06:42 > 1:06:47I mean, your experience in the Australian marketplace would fit -

1:06:47 > 1:06:50whether it's our company or somewhere else.

1:06:50 > 1:06:54Your experience would probably be relevant to some of the big companies like the banks.

1:06:54 > 1:06:59The banks, I know, are looking for a lot of staff

1:06:59 > 1:07:05in the development database and they've got fairly large IT projects

1:07:05 > 1:07:09so employability shouldn't be an issue if you came to Australia.

1:07:09 > 1:07:11Brilliant. It's good to hear.

1:07:11 > 1:07:15That's promising news, and over at the school,

1:07:15 > 1:07:18Louise is getting into the idea of Aussie education.

1:07:18 > 1:07:21It's really lovely, I'm really impressed. It's a lovely place

1:07:21 > 1:07:24and the children just seem really happy which is the main...

1:07:24 > 1:07:27You know, that says everything.

1:07:27 > 1:07:30We really just try to create a happy and warm environment

1:07:30 > 1:07:34where the kids feel safe and can learn and have fun.

1:07:34 > 1:07:37- They don't want much, they just want to have fun...- Exactly.

1:07:37 > 1:07:39- ..and be with people their own age.- Yeah.

1:07:39 > 1:07:42We're here to guide them through all of that and have fun with them.

1:07:44 > 1:07:49Tosh, meanwhile, has reached the most important question.

1:07:49 > 1:07:55So with my skills and experience, is there a sort of band you could

1:07:55 > 1:07:59give me for working in Sydney, how much I could expect to earn.

1:07:59 > 1:08:07I think, looking at your CV, I'd say probably 80-90 grand annual salary.

1:08:07 > 1:08:08Brilliant.

1:08:08 > 1:08:11And depending on the type of project,

1:08:11 > 1:08:14it could be slightly more with bonuses etc.

1:08:14 > 1:08:15Fantastic.

1:08:15 > 1:08:20That's nearly £60,000 - 20,000 more than he earns in the UK.

1:08:20 > 1:08:23It's ideal news.

1:08:23 > 1:08:26- Thanks very much for coming in. - Thanks for your time, Michael.

1:08:26 > 1:08:29- Best of luck with things. - Brilliant. Thanks very much.

1:08:31 > 1:08:37So how will Tosh vote on work in Australia versus his job in the UK?

1:08:37 > 1:08:41I've met an employer today, I've had a little insight in to how

1:08:41 > 1:08:44they work here in Australia and my industry and now it's time to vote.

1:08:47 > 1:08:49Australia.

1:08:50 > 1:08:52Seems to me that I could earn quite well here.

1:08:52 > 1:08:58In terms of seeing how far it will take us with the cost of living, we've yet to look at that.

1:08:58 > 1:09:01Whether it supports us in a way that we would like to live

1:09:01 > 1:09:05and whether that will mean the improvement on our lifestyle,

1:09:05 > 1:09:09we've still got to work out.

1:09:14 > 1:09:17- Hiya!- How you doing?- How did it go? - Yeah, really good.

1:09:17 > 1:09:19When Tosh and Louise meet up later,

1:09:19 > 1:09:22they're keen to find out the others' news.

1:09:22 > 1:09:26- How was kindy?- The kindy was great. It's lovely. Rueben loved it.

1:09:26 > 1:09:29He was just interacting with everybody. Yeah, it was really nice.

1:09:29 > 1:09:32- Really nice.- Ah, brilliant, I'm glad. - So, how did work go?

1:09:32 > 1:09:37Work was good. He was impressed with the CV. He said I had the right balance of skills.

1:09:37 > 1:09:41- Excellent.- I also asked him what kind of salary I could expect

1:09:41 > 1:09:44and he said that with my skills and experience,

1:09:44 > 1:09:47I'd be looking at between 80 and 90,000 a year to start.

1:09:47 > 1:09:51- Brilliant.- It's what we found when looking around.

1:09:51 > 1:09:55- So that was really encouraging. - Excllent. Yeah, that is good.

1:09:55 > 1:09:59- So we might be able to afford that house after all.- Maybe!

1:10:03 > 1:10:06Tosh's earning potential is very welcome news,

1:10:06 > 1:10:10and could open the door to affording their dream house.

1:10:10 > 1:10:13But are the family thinking with their hearts

1:10:13 > 1:10:14rather than their heads?

1:10:14 > 1:10:18Perhaps it's time for them to take a reality check.

1:10:18 > 1:10:22Firstly, they need to know how much their UK home is worth.

1:10:22 > 1:10:26So we sent round two estate agents to give us their opinion.

1:10:26 > 1:10:29They bought it in 2010 for £159,000

1:10:29 > 1:10:33and have spent a lot of time modernising it.

1:10:33 > 1:10:38- Shall we find out what's going to happen?- Yes.

1:10:41 > 1:10:44(Look at our house!)

1:10:44 > 1:10:47It looks like it's been refurbished recently.

1:10:47 > 1:10:51There's a new oven and hob, modern heating system,

1:10:51 > 1:10:54stainless steel sink, dishwasher.

1:10:54 > 1:10:58- It's a good size space. - Look there's your artwork, Reuben!

1:11:01 > 1:11:05Third bedroom. Ike's room. Perfectly chaotic. Ideal for a little boy.

1:11:11 > 1:11:16Nice, large open-plan dining room and lounge. Really nice.

1:11:16 > 1:11:20- Really nice!- Really nice! Too right.- Thank you.

1:11:22 > 1:11:26Oh, no, not the toilet! Don't show people the toilet!

1:11:28 > 1:11:31Great size second bedroom and a very lucky boy with all these toys.

1:11:35 > 1:11:40Nice and bright. Doesn't meet the same standard as the rest of the house but it has potential.

1:11:40 > 1:11:43- All right!- Easy.- We haven't got round to that room yet!

1:11:43 > 1:11:46A really pleasant three-bedroomed semi.

1:11:46 > 1:11:49I'd be looking to put the property on the market at 189,950.

1:11:49 > 1:11:53If they're looking for a quicker sale, probably closer to 175.

1:11:55 > 1:11:56Wow, that's...

1:11:56 > 1:11:58It's a fantastic little family home.

1:11:58 > 1:12:01If I was to market that house, I'd market it at £185,000

1:12:01 > 1:12:04and for a quick sale, 179,950.

1:12:04 > 1:12:07- Wow.- Wow! - It's not bad, is it?!- Yeah!

1:12:07 > 1:12:11(SOBS) I want to live in England!

1:12:11 > 1:12:14- Aww, sweetheart! - I want to live in England!

1:12:14 > 1:12:18- We do!- We do!

1:12:18 > 1:12:23- You miss your house?- (CRIES) Yeah. - Aww, Reuben!

1:12:23 > 1:12:27It's all right, we're going back there next week, aren't we!?

1:12:27 > 1:12:30We're going back there.

1:12:30 > 1:12:35- Do you just get a bit homesick, seeing your house on TV?- Yeah.

1:12:35 > 1:12:38Don't worry, Reuben.

1:12:38 > 1:12:40Aww, Poor Reuben.

1:12:40 > 1:12:43He might be upset by seeing his house and toys

1:12:43 > 1:12:45but mum and dad are quite happy with what they've heard,

1:12:45 > 1:12:48though they're not getting carried away.

1:12:48 > 1:12:52The two things that concern me are that it's all very well

1:12:52 > 1:12:55getting the house valued, but you've still got to sell it

1:12:55 > 1:12:59and what you sell it for may not be what the estate agent says.

1:12:59 > 1:13:02But still, it's nice to hear.

1:13:02 > 1:13:05The other thing is that the exchange rate, not being what it was.

1:13:05 > 1:13:09That lump doesn't necessarily go as far over here as it might do there.

1:13:09 > 1:13:11- Yeah. - So there's that to think about too.

1:13:11 > 1:13:13With Tosh's money worries,

1:13:13 > 1:13:16they need to see how far their finances will go.

1:13:16 > 1:13:19So we've prepared a breakdown of their living costs in Australia

1:13:19 > 1:13:23to see if emigrating really is really possible.

1:13:24 > 1:13:28OK, so now we need to see how much the property's going to cost us.

1:13:28 > 1:13:34Right, so that was the flat which we pretty much weren't that...

1:13:34 > 1:13:36Monthly repayments...

1:13:36 > 1:13:43- We couldn't make that payment. - We'd be paying 3,730.

1:13:43 > 1:13:48- That is what I earn at the moment, a month, in the UK, after tax.- Yeah.

1:13:48 > 1:13:49- So we couldn't do that.- Yeah.

1:13:49 > 1:13:52And that's the cheapest of the three even though it's not the one

1:13:52 > 1:13:54we'd really go for.

1:13:54 > 1:13:57- So...- Yeah.

1:13:57 > 1:13:59And that one, the one that we really loved...

1:13:59 > 1:14:05is far more than we pull in, in a month. We couldn't buy any of those.

1:14:05 > 1:14:08- Yeah.- We just couldn't.

1:14:08 > 1:14:10- That's a bit rubbish, isn't it?- Yeah.

1:14:10 > 1:14:15- If we were to buy, it wouldn't be any of those three.- No.

1:14:15 > 1:14:19On their current income, this move is a non-starter.

1:14:19 > 1:14:23How do things add up based on Tosh's Australian salary?

1:14:23 > 1:14:29So, bringing in all our other lifestyle costs and what we think

1:14:29 > 1:14:32we may be able to earn here, we can see whether or not we can do it.

1:14:32 > 1:14:38- Let's have a look. Let's see if it gets any brighter.- Right, so...

1:14:38 > 1:14:41Times 12.

1:14:41 > 1:14:4240.

1:14:44 > 1:14:52So that means we are £3,712 worse off a year, here.

1:14:52 > 1:14:54So the question is...

1:14:54 > 1:15:01But that's with the massive £3,735 mortgage.

1:15:01 > 1:15:05- That's with the dream house, with the pool and view.- Exactly.

1:15:05 > 1:15:10- That's not what we'd be jumping into.- So, it is very doable.

1:15:10 > 1:15:12I think it's doable.

1:15:12 > 1:15:16It's not a case of "sell your house and move into a mansion"

1:15:16 > 1:15:22but it is a case of "sell your house where we live and move into a house here."

1:15:22 > 1:15:24It's more positive than I thought it was going to be.

1:15:24 > 1:15:26I'm really quite encouraged actually.

1:15:26 > 1:15:28I was expecting a much more grim picture,

1:15:28 > 1:15:32- especially when I saw this figure here, this repayment.- Yeah.

1:15:32 > 1:15:36The Afanasievs think they could make this move but only if they buy

1:15:36 > 1:15:39a house much smaller than the one they've fallen for.

1:15:39 > 1:15:43Does it mean the move is off or would they consider giving up

1:15:43 > 1:15:44the dream home.

1:15:44 > 1:15:46We've done the reality check.

1:15:46 > 1:15:49We've found some interesting facts and figures. Now it's time to vote.

1:15:54 > 1:15:56BOTH: Australia.

1:15:58 > 1:15:59Brilliant.

1:15:59 > 1:16:02We'll be a little bit worse off but not as worse off as I thought

1:16:02 > 1:16:06and I think what you get in surroundings and environment

1:16:06 > 1:16:08makes up for that loss of money.

1:16:08 > 1:16:10The things you have to buy are more expensive

1:16:10 > 1:16:14and the things you get for free, just much better, I think.

1:16:14 > 1:16:19Even though their ideal house seems out of reach and finances look like

1:16:19 > 1:16:24they'd be stretched, Tosh and Louise have still voted for Australia.

1:16:28 > 1:16:31Despite having to go to plan B on property,

1:16:31 > 1:16:35Louise's enthusiasm for Oz is music to Tosh's ears.

1:16:35 > 1:16:38But what's underpinning all their hopes

1:16:38 > 1:16:41is a better quality of life for the family

1:16:41 > 1:16:45and if money is going to be tight, it's crucial they find out

1:16:45 > 1:16:47if the Aussie lifestyle's for them.

1:16:47 > 1:16:51Louise and Tosh both spent time in Australia before they met.

1:16:51 > 1:16:55But they were living very different lifestyles.

1:16:55 > 1:16:59When I first went to Sydney, 20 years ago, my impression was very different.

1:16:59 > 1:17:05I had a great time but was happy to leave and go back to England, to London.

1:17:05 > 1:17:07I'm now 20 years older than I was and married

1:17:07 > 1:17:11and I've got two young children so what I'm looking for in a place

1:17:11 > 1:17:14is different to what I was looking for 20 years ago.

1:17:14 > 1:17:1820 years ago, I was looking for clubs and bars and parties

1:17:18 > 1:17:25and now I'm looking for nice schools, nice beaches, nice surroundings,

1:17:25 > 1:17:27a nice family-orientated place.

1:17:27 > 1:17:30So, as parents, they need to see what Oz can offer

1:17:30 > 1:17:31for family days out.

1:17:31 > 1:17:36'Today, they're heading to the world famous Taronga Zoo.

1:17:36 > 1:17:39'There should be plenty of chances to get close to the wildlife,

1:17:39 > 1:17:42'one of Reuben's favourite things to do.'

1:17:42 > 1:17:45We're going to go meet some lovely Australian animals.

1:17:45 > 1:17:48Have you got any favourites you'd like to see?

1:17:48 > 1:17:51- Erm, koalas and snakes.- Koalas and snakes, well, you know what?

1:17:51 > 1:17:54I'm pretty sure I can do something about that for you.

1:17:54 > 1:17:59- Come through here. Come on, kids. - Let's go and see the animals.

1:17:59 > 1:18:00What's that, eh?

1:18:00 > 1:18:05That is a kangaroo, her name is Koba and she's a Western Grey Kangaroo.

1:18:05 > 1:18:08Oh, look, she's giving him a cuddle.

1:18:08 > 1:18:12'Koba seems to be doing a great job of selling Australia to the children

1:18:12 > 1:18:17'and there's plenty of other animals to keep the boys happy.'

1:18:17 > 1:18:20This is a diamond python.

1:18:20 > 1:18:24Now, before you come close, this snake will kill its prey,

1:18:24 > 1:18:27the food, through what we call constriction.

1:18:27 > 1:18:30- Like a boa constrictor. - Like a boa.- Squeezes.

1:18:30 > 1:18:32That's right, that's exactly right.

1:18:32 > 1:18:36- Hey, you're pretty smart, aren't you?- Yeah.

1:18:40 > 1:18:45- I've got here a very special animal. What is it?- Koala bear.- A koala.

1:18:45 > 1:18:48You ready? Here we go.

1:18:50 > 1:18:52Look at it.

1:18:52 > 1:18:56- Isn't she lovely.- Claws are really impressive, aren't they?

1:18:56 > 1:19:01I told you you're going to see a koala, didn't I?

1:19:01 > 1:19:05- You're pretty lucky.- Definitely, not many people get to do this.

1:19:05 > 1:19:08'The boys seem happy, even when the weather turns,

1:19:08 > 1:19:11'Ike's enthusiasm isn't dampened.'

1:19:11 > 1:19:13I've given up with Ike. He's soaking.

1:19:15 > 1:19:17D'you want to keep him?

1:19:17 > 1:19:18HE LAUGHS

1:19:18 > 1:19:23Yeah, I think we've got a spare holding cage back there we can pop him into for the day.

1:19:23 > 1:19:26We'll feed him well.

1:19:26 > 1:19:28'Between the animals and the puddles,

1:19:28 > 1:19:32'the day has given the Afanasievs just what they were looking for.'

1:19:33 > 1:19:36'As their trip to the zoo comes to an end,

1:19:36 > 1:19:37'there's a break in the clouds,

1:19:37 > 1:19:41'giving them the chance to spend a bit of time on an Aussie beach.

1:19:41 > 1:19:44'So, after a packed family day out,

1:19:44 > 1:19:47'how will they vote on the lifestyle?'

1:19:47 > 1:19:52We've been to the zoo today so now it's time to vote.

1:19:56 > 1:19:58ALL: Australia.

1:20:00 > 1:20:03- Australia again? - Just trying to keep you happy.

1:20:03 > 1:20:06No, we had a great morning, the zoo was amazing.

1:20:06 > 1:20:09- There's definitely more for families, I think.- Yeah.

1:20:09 > 1:20:14'That's another step towards Tosh's dream of Australia.

1:20:14 > 1:20:17'However, there is one big issue that Louise has been putting

1:20:17 > 1:20:18'to the back of her mind.'

1:20:18 > 1:20:21I haven't forgotten all of that in the UK, you know,

1:20:21 > 1:20:25I haven't forgotten about not having my parents here.

1:20:25 > 1:20:31Which, you know, is and still is the issue for me.

1:20:31 > 1:20:33Now it's THE only issue.

1:20:33 > 1:20:37Whereas before it was the big issue plus there was other things

1:20:37 > 1:20:39but now that's the only thing.

1:20:39 > 1:20:41We've obviously got to deal with that issue

1:20:41 > 1:20:47and think about leaving them behind and for the boys and for me.

1:20:51 > 1:20:54Sampling the lifestyle has shown the family what

1:20:54 > 1:20:56they can gain in Australia.

1:20:56 > 1:20:59They also know what they stand to lose.

1:20:59 > 1:21:03Everything now rests on their reaction of seeing messages

1:21:03 > 1:21:05from friends and family back home.

1:21:08 > 1:21:13'For Louise, leaving loved ones has always been the toughest obstacle to moving.'

1:21:13 > 1:21:17It hasn't really been something I thought about this week

1:21:17 > 1:21:19because it is just a week out here

1:21:19 > 1:21:24but when I do stop to think about it, I do get quite upset.

1:21:26 > 1:21:29Especially now knowing a little bit more

1:21:29 > 1:21:31about how I feel about Australia.

1:21:31 > 1:21:34It's even more upsetting.

1:21:34 > 1:21:37I haven't even put the DVD on and I'm welling up.

1:21:37 > 1:21:43'It could be an emotional experience but Tosh and Louise want to watch it together with the children.'

1:21:45 > 1:21:50Hello, Louise, Tosh and the boys, Ike and Reuben.

1:21:50 > 1:21:53Lou's my soulmate, actually.

1:21:53 > 1:21:58We go back to school days, I'll miss her terribly.

1:21:58 > 1:22:01She's just a lovely daughter.

1:22:01 > 1:22:05We do have our moments but we get on better now

1:22:05 > 1:22:06than when she was in her teens.

1:22:06 > 1:22:10Well, you know, one part of your heart drops,

1:22:10 > 1:22:13the other one thinks, "Well, they know what they're doing."

1:22:13 > 1:22:18Even Newcastle feels like the other end of the world

1:22:18 > 1:22:22and that's just a four-hour drive from where we live.

1:22:22 > 1:22:24It is going to be quite upsetting thinking that

1:22:24 > 1:22:28to go and see Tosh and Lou is going to be quite a big haul to get

1:22:28 > 1:22:30the five of us out there.

1:22:30 > 1:22:34I know you're in Australia now and you're trying to decide whether to stay or not,

1:22:34 > 1:22:37but the last thing I want is for you to worry about

1:22:37 > 1:22:39what's going to happen to us.

1:22:39 > 1:22:43I would prefer you to think about your life.

1:22:43 > 1:22:46We have had our life, and if you're happy

1:22:46 > 1:22:48and you think it's going to be a better life for the boys,

1:22:48 > 1:22:54you've got our blessing and we hope that you'll really enjoy it.

1:22:54 > 1:22:56We won't, we won't stand in your way,

1:22:56 > 1:23:01you know that, we would miss you but if you want to go, you go.

1:23:01 > 1:23:05It's your life and we want you to do well.

1:23:05 > 1:23:08I'm behind you, absolutely behind you

1:23:08 > 1:23:14but I have to say that I'll miss you guys so much.

1:23:14 > 1:23:16Don't worry about me.

1:23:16 > 1:23:18Just do whatever you want to do.

1:23:18 > 1:23:22Follow your instincts as you always have

1:23:22 > 1:23:27and you've pretty well always been right. So, carry on.

1:23:27 > 1:23:33Ike and Reuben know I would miss them more than I would ever say

1:23:33 > 1:23:35but they know I'm always here.

1:23:38 > 1:23:43I don't want them not to decide to go because of me.

1:23:43 > 1:23:47I would like you to make your mind up what you want to do

1:23:47 > 1:23:51and know that Grandma's here for you always.

1:23:53 > 1:23:55TOSH SIGHS

1:23:59 > 1:24:02Taking them away from their grandparents is probably,

1:24:02 > 1:24:03is THE biggest thing.

1:24:03 > 1:24:08That's kind of, I've sort of thought about a lot recently.

1:24:08 > 1:24:12It's their world, the boys are their world and they see them all the time.

1:24:12 > 1:24:14I think, "Am I being selfish?"

1:24:14 > 1:24:19Taking them away when, you know,

1:24:19 > 1:24:23maybe I am, I don't know.

1:24:23 > 1:24:27Maybe, you know.

1:24:27 > 1:24:30I think, erm, yeah.

1:24:30 > 1:24:36What I wouldn't want to do is push Louise into a decision that

1:24:36 > 1:24:42was too painful to make and I can perfectly understand why someone

1:24:42 > 1:24:46might see that living somewhere else would be better for them

1:24:46 > 1:24:47but still decide not to

1:24:47 > 1:24:51because of not wanting to leave people who are close to them,

1:24:51 > 1:24:53I can understand that happening.

1:25:00 > 1:25:05Seeing the pain of leaving loved ones behind is always difficult,

1:25:05 > 1:25:06especially for children

1:25:06 > 1:25:09but if the Afanasievs are going to make the move,

1:25:09 > 1:25:14they have to be certain that a new life will be worth the heartache.

1:25:14 > 1:25:19'It's an emotional end to the week and it's given Tosh and Louise

1:25:19 > 1:25:20'a lot to think about.'

1:25:20 > 1:25:24Louise has always had more doubts than me about coming here.

1:25:24 > 1:25:30Her reaction to seeing friends and family back home, it wasn't a surprise at all.

1:25:30 > 1:25:35Made me feel real emotional and it was my reality check,

1:25:35 > 1:25:38because that's always been the big thing that, you know,

1:25:38 > 1:25:42that's made me very against the decision.

1:25:42 > 1:25:47Whether watching those messages will actually pull her back the other way, I don't know.

1:25:47 > 1:25:51If that's the case, then that's the case, I wouldn't want to force that.

1:25:51 > 1:25:55If that is the case, I wouldn't want to force her anyway cos we wouldn't be happy here then.

1:25:55 > 1:25:58When it comes to the final vote with Louise, I don't know, who knows?

1:26:03 > 1:26:06'The Afanasievs have had a life-changing week that's given them

1:26:06 > 1:26:08'a full taste of life in Australia.

1:26:08 > 1:26:13'From house and job hunting to family days out and kids' schools

1:26:13 > 1:26:17'but now it's time to make the final vote.

1:26:17 > 1:26:20'Will they go for a future in Australia

1:26:20 > 1:26:22'or has the upset of seeing loved ones

1:26:22 > 1:26:26'made leaving the UK unthinkable?'

1:26:26 > 1:26:29So, we've come to the end of our fantastic week here in Australia.

1:26:29 > 1:26:33We've seen some fantastic houses, great sights and great beaches.

1:26:33 > 1:26:37We've had a great time and now it's time for the final vote.

1:26:43 > 1:26:47ALL: Australia!

1:26:47 > 1:26:53- I did it as well.- Fantastic. Why did you put Australia?

1:26:53 > 1:26:57- Cos it's hotter than England. - Cos it's hotter. OK.

1:26:57 > 1:26:59Overall, I think it's just the feel,

1:26:59 > 1:27:02it feels like a better place for us to live.

1:27:02 > 1:27:06I think it's more geared for the way we want to live

1:27:06 > 1:27:08and I think we could have a better life here.

1:27:08 > 1:27:12Yeah, I agree. It's been a real surprise.

1:27:12 > 1:27:16On the plane here, I didn't think that I'd be voting, now,

1:27:16 > 1:27:19that I'd be voting Australia.

1:27:19 > 1:27:22I thought I would be voting UK.

1:27:22 > 1:27:27I thought you might do a bit of a middle of the road thing.

1:27:27 > 1:27:30- No, I'm so far the other way. - Brilliant. Brilliant.

1:27:30 > 1:27:35- I don't do anything by halves.- No, no, that's true. That's true.- Ever.

1:27:38 > 1:27:42After confronting the emotional and financial costs,

1:27:42 > 1:27:47Louise has been won over by Tosh's dream of a new life Down Under.

1:27:47 > 1:27:50They know leaving home will mean making sacrifices

1:27:50 > 1:27:55but with a future in mind, they're ready to face them together.
