0:45:02 > 0:45:05For most families, moving to the other side of the world

0:45:05 > 0:45:07is a once-in-a-lifetime decision,

0:45:07 > 0:45:12but what if you've done it before only for things to end in disaster?

0:45:12 > 0:45:15Would you be willing to risk everything

0:45:15 > 0:45:18and make the move all over again?

0:45:18 > 0:45:21Last time the Wallaces tried to emigrate,

0:45:21 > 0:45:23it almost destroyed the family.

0:45:23 > 0:45:25'We came back, we were arguing a lot'

0:45:25 > 0:45:30and, um, I decided to divorce Ben.

0:45:30 > 0:45:34Making a new start down under will mean facing some tough memories.

0:45:34 > 0:45:37I'm just hoping that things ARE going to be different.

0:45:37 > 0:45:40Ben hopefully has grown up a little bit more.

0:45:40 > 0:45:44I want to be by the beach and I want to go surfing when I can basically.

0:45:44 > 0:45:46Not when I'm allowed to.

0:45:46 > 0:45:51With so much at stake, will it be the biggest gamble of their lives?

0:45:52 > 0:45:56- I don't want anything to go wrong this time.- Come on.

0:46:21 > 0:46:25Australia's sunny climate and miles of beautiful coastline

0:46:25 > 0:46:29have long been a draw for Brits looking for a new start abroad.

0:46:30 > 0:46:34For most families, emigrating is a once-in-a-lifetime event,

0:46:34 > 0:46:38but sometimes, the promise of a better life is so strong

0:46:38 > 0:46:42that it can tempt you to risk everything for another bite of the cherry.

0:46:42 > 0:46:45The Wallaces hope Australia will give them

0:46:45 > 0:46:48the family life they dream of.

0:46:48 > 0:46:50Over the next week, they'll experience

0:46:50 > 0:46:54the reality of living down under before they make their final choice,

0:46:54 > 0:46:59whether to stay in the UK or to make the move for good.

0:47:01 > 0:47:04Their journey begins with the long haul across three continents,

0:47:04 > 0:47:08covering 10,000 miles, before arriving in Sydney.

0:47:08 > 0:47:10Despite the long trip,

0:47:10 > 0:47:14the family are feeling positive about what's to come.

0:47:14 > 0:47:15Flight was lovely.

0:47:15 > 0:47:18We're here now, we're just waiting to see what happens

0:47:18 > 0:47:20and we've been looking forward to it.

0:47:20 > 0:47:23Just see what Sydney has to offer,

0:47:23 > 0:47:26and hopefully the weather will stay dry!

0:47:29 > 0:47:32They've arrived in the Australian winter, but they'll be hoping

0:47:32 > 0:47:36it's an improvement on the weather at home.

0:47:37 > 0:47:42Back in the UK, the Wallaces live in Newport, in South Wales.

0:47:42 > 0:47:47Amanda and Ben recently celebrated their marriage, for the second time.

0:47:50 > 0:47:53'Today means the world to me.'

0:47:53 > 0:47:56I'm married to Ben again and we're a proper family again.

0:47:56 > 0:47:59It's a fresh start basically.

0:47:59 > 0:48:01Everything's gone now that's in the past.

0:48:01 > 0:48:03Just look to the future instead.

0:48:03 > 0:48:08Life for the Wallaces hasn't always been this rosy.

0:48:08 > 0:48:11In 2005, they emigrated to New Zealand with their daughters, Aimee and Libby,

0:48:11 > 0:48:14in search of a better family life.

0:48:14 > 0:48:18However, down under didn't live up to their expectations.

0:48:18 > 0:48:21Obviously when we emigrated to New Zealand,

0:48:21 > 0:48:24the climate was similar to the UK,

0:48:24 > 0:48:28it wasn't as hot as I expected it to be, it was fairly chilly,

0:48:28 > 0:48:31we had landslides and floods while we were there.

0:48:31 > 0:48:34And their ideas of life in New Zealand

0:48:34 > 0:48:37- seemed to be at odds with each other.- I went to work...

0:48:37 > 0:48:38I didn't.

0:48:38 > 0:48:41..and Ben decided it was a surfing holiday!

0:48:41 > 0:48:44No, I didn't. I struggled to get work.

0:48:44 > 0:48:45- You did not!- I did!

0:48:45 > 0:48:49There was loads of work. You just preferred to do other things.

0:48:49 > 0:48:50I beg to differ on that.

0:48:50 > 0:48:54They might not agree how it all happened, but in 2005,

0:48:54 > 0:48:58after just a few months, the Wallaces returned to the UK

0:48:58 > 0:49:01where matters got even worse.

0:49:01 > 0:49:04So we came back, tried to give it another go.

0:49:04 > 0:49:06We were arguing a lot

0:49:06 > 0:49:10and I decided to divorce Ben.

0:49:12 > 0:49:16After all their ups and downs, the Wallaces are back together as a family

0:49:16 > 0:49:20and Ben and Amanda's thoughts have once again turned to moving down under.

0:49:20 > 0:49:22Come on, girls! Beach!

0:49:22 > 0:49:27- What we thought we were coming back to...- We didn't come back to.

0:49:27 > 0:49:30Newport's not changed for the better, it's got worse.

0:49:30 > 0:49:33And the economic climate's got worse.

0:49:33 > 0:49:37And they've had their fill of the great British weather.

0:49:37 > 0:49:42I'm fed up of cold, miserable weather.

0:49:42 > 0:49:43It's just not very nice.

0:49:43 > 0:49:48They're also hoping Australia could give Aimee and Libby a brighter future.

0:49:48 > 0:49:52All we want to do is give the best we can for them basically,

0:49:52 > 0:49:55and if you can't do that for your children, there's nothing you can do.

0:49:55 > 0:49:57We'd do anything for them.

0:49:57 > 0:50:01And the Aussie surf is a big pull for Ben and the girls.

0:50:01 > 0:50:04Because of the warmth and temperature of the water

0:50:04 > 0:50:09in Australia, then I'll be able to go and surf a lot more.

0:50:09 > 0:50:13I want to be by the beach and I want to go surfing when I can basically.

0:50:13 > 0:50:15Not when...

0:50:15 > 0:50:17I'm allowed to.

0:50:17 > 0:50:23However this time, they're stealing realistic about what life might be like.

0:50:23 > 0:50:25We're not expecting the grass to be greener.

0:50:25 > 0:50:28We ARE expecting to work hard over there

0:50:28 > 0:50:31and we're not expecting to have a big, huge house,

0:50:31 > 0:50:33cos we haven't got a huge house here.

0:50:33 > 0:50:37With so much riding on the week, the Wallaces' experience in the past

0:50:37 > 0:50:39could have a big impact on their future.

0:50:39 > 0:50:41Will we work out together?

0:50:41 > 0:50:43Will we end up divorcing again?

0:50:43 > 0:50:47You never know. You can't foresee what the future holds.

0:50:47 > 0:50:50You've got to look at the now

0:50:50 > 0:50:53and at the moment, that is the way forward.

0:50:53 > 0:50:56You know, who knows what's round the corner?

0:50:58 > 0:51:02So will the past help them make the right choices this time around?

0:51:02 > 0:51:06Or could they be heading for stormy waters all over again?

0:51:08 > 0:51:13Home for the week is Sydney, Australia's largest and most famous city.

0:51:13 > 0:51:16With its stunning scenery and fast pace of life,

0:51:16 > 0:51:20it's a magnet for immigrants from all around the world,

0:51:20 > 0:51:24but can it deliver the Wallaces the new start they hope for?

0:51:26 > 0:51:29They're spending the week in the suburb of Manly,

0:51:29 > 0:51:32seven miles' drive north-east of Sydney.

0:51:32 > 0:51:35Ben and Amanda have visited Australia before,

0:51:35 > 0:51:38but under very different circumstances.

0:51:38 > 0:51:41I've been out here before, I went to Melbourne with the girls

0:51:41 > 0:51:43and my friend Donna,

0:51:43 > 0:51:48and Ben came out here soon after in the November time,

0:51:48 > 0:51:52after we split up, with another lady, shall we say.

0:51:52 > 0:51:56So it was really traumatic for me to be coming here,

0:51:56 > 0:51:59although it's where Ben wants to be,

0:51:59 > 0:52:03just because you always wonder what he was doing here

0:52:03 > 0:52:05and where he went and that sort of thing.

0:52:05 > 0:52:07It wasn't part of my life at the time.

0:52:07 > 0:52:12It's an emotional issue but one that Ben is confident they can handle.

0:52:12 > 0:52:14I try to support her through it as best I can,

0:52:14 > 0:52:17but hopefully we'll get through all that,

0:52:17 > 0:52:19like we've got through the last two years

0:52:19 > 0:52:23and we'll build a life together in Australia.

0:52:23 > 0:52:29And their search for a new future starts at this two-bedroom cottage.

0:52:29 > 0:52:33It should give them a good taste of what Australian living can offer.

0:52:34 > 0:52:36- And the sun's out. - Oh, this is lovely!

0:52:36 > 0:52:40I love...just the noises out in the garden!

0:52:40 > 0:52:42Yeah, and the smells.

0:52:42 > 0:52:45- It's lovely, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:52:45 > 0:52:47Nice, blue sky as well!

0:52:47 > 0:52:50- They'll be coming here for a barbecue, won't they!- Mmm.

0:52:50 > 0:52:52It's really nice. Really like it.

0:52:52 > 0:52:55I doubt we'll be able to afford anything like this, though!

0:52:55 > 0:52:57Can I go to sleep now?

0:52:57 > 0:52:59I'm just looking forward to it.

0:52:59 > 0:53:02Just see it as a new start.

0:53:02 > 0:53:05Maybe some better opportunities. I don't know until...

0:53:05 > 0:53:09I'll take each day as it comes and then see what happens basically.

0:53:09 > 0:53:11You don't have anxieties, do you?

0:53:11 > 0:53:16I tend not to get anxious or worry about things, really.

0:53:16 > 0:53:20- I take it all in my stride and just get on with it.- Life the easy way!

0:53:20 > 0:53:22I do everything one day...

0:53:22 > 0:53:25Hence no haircut or a shave.

0:53:25 > 0:53:27We've got to find a barber as well!

0:53:30 > 0:53:32She's gone.

0:53:34 > 0:53:38Finding a warm bed and a barber might be top of the list right now,

0:53:38 > 0:53:42but the family know there's some huge decisions ahead of them.

0:53:46 > 0:53:52The key to the Wallaces making the move is finding the right house in the right location,

0:53:52 > 0:53:56but living in one of the most expensive cities in the world won't come cheap,

0:53:56 > 0:54:00so could they be facing a strain on their wallets?

0:54:02 > 0:54:05Back in the UK, the Wallaces live in Amanda's three-bedroom house

0:54:05 > 0:54:09in Newport in South Wales.

0:54:09 > 0:54:12Ben also has a two-bedroom house that he rents out.

0:54:12 > 0:54:17For the move to work, finding the right home in Australia would be a big step forward.

0:54:17 > 0:54:20We don't want a place with a swimming pool.

0:54:20 > 0:54:22I'd rather a small house close to the beach.

0:54:22 > 0:54:25Obviously we'll have to have three bedrooms.

0:54:25 > 0:54:27I would say four, for people visiting.

0:54:29 > 0:54:33OK, ideally four bedrooms, but three would suffice

0:54:33 > 0:54:38as long as we've all... The girls have got their own bedrooms.

0:54:38 > 0:54:43They'll finance the move by selling both properties, if they can agree on what they want,

0:54:43 > 0:54:47which could give them a total budget of £270,000.

0:54:49 > 0:54:54Today, we're going to give them a taste of the Sydney property market.

0:54:54 > 0:54:58We'll show them three options based upon what they want from their ideal home,

0:54:58 > 0:55:03what they can afford, and the real price of property down under.

0:55:03 > 0:55:05After seeing first-hand what's on offer,

0:55:05 > 0:55:08we'll reveal to the family just how much each house costs.

0:55:10 > 0:55:11Having visited before,

0:55:11 > 0:55:14Amanda and Ben have some idea about Aussie houses,

0:55:14 > 0:55:19but prices and exchange rates have changed a great deal in recent years

0:55:19 > 0:55:22so could they be in for a few surprises?

0:55:22 > 0:55:24The first property is in Brookvale,

0:55:24 > 0:55:27just a few minutes' drive north of Manly

0:55:27 > 0:55:29and close to surfing beaches.

0:55:29 > 0:55:33To try and keep costs down, it's a new two-bedroom apartment,

0:55:33 > 0:55:37but will it get things off to a good start?

0:55:37 > 0:55:39Quite secluded.

0:55:44 > 0:55:46Oh, this is nice.

0:55:46 > 0:55:48Nice size kitchen.

0:55:48 > 0:55:50It's not too bad.

0:55:50 > 0:55:53But this would be your living room and dining room.

0:55:53 > 0:55:55Bigger than I thought it would be.

0:55:55 > 0:55:57Do you want to look at the bedrooms?

0:55:57 > 0:56:00Whose bedroom is this?

0:56:00 > 0:56:01Yours!

0:56:01 > 0:56:03Nice walk-in wardrobes. All for me.

0:56:03 > 0:56:06- So this would be...- Second bedroom.

0:56:06 > 0:56:09- It's two bedrooms.- It's not ideal.

0:56:09 > 0:56:11It is nice, but...

0:56:11 > 0:56:13might even have to share a double bed.

0:56:13 > 0:56:15- At a push.- Mmm.

0:56:15 > 0:56:17What do you think?

0:56:17 > 0:56:20- I like it, but it's a bit small. - Yes.

0:56:20 > 0:56:22To be sharing with your sister.

0:56:22 > 0:56:27It's looking as if this apartment is simply too small for their needs.

0:56:27 > 0:56:29Can the outside change their minds?

0:56:29 > 0:56:33First impressions? This looks really good, yeah.

0:56:33 > 0:56:36Seeing as Ben doesn't have to do any DIY at all.

0:56:36 > 0:56:37Maybe a bit of painting.

0:56:37 > 0:56:41Not even painting. Nothing wrong with magnolia!

0:56:41 > 0:56:44So with a very quick tour over, the girls hang out on the terrace,

0:56:44 > 0:56:48while Amanda and Ben find out the price.

0:56:48 > 0:56:51How will a cheaper option fit with their £270,000 budget?

0:56:51 > 0:56:54What do you think? Do you think it's something we can afford?

0:56:54 > 0:56:58I wouldn't hazard a guess on a two-bedroom apartment. We've not looked at any.

0:56:58 > 0:57:02- Shall we have a look? - Go on then.

0:57:02 > 0:57:03Here goes.

0:57:05 > 0:57:06Oh!

0:57:06 > 0:57:08£267,000.

0:57:09 > 0:57:12Judging by those gasps, it looks as if they're encouraged

0:57:12 > 0:57:15by the price, if not by the space on offer.

0:57:15 > 0:57:19- If we could find a three-bedroom, we might be able to afford.- Yeah.

0:57:19 > 0:57:21So really, really impressed.

0:57:21 > 0:57:22- I'm quite shocked.- Yeah!

0:57:29 > 0:57:33The second stop is another new apartment.

0:57:33 > 0:57:36Set further inland in the Frenchs Forest area,

0:57:36 > 0:57:38it should show the Wallaces what they can get

0:57:38 > 0:57:41IF they're willing to live further from the beach.

0:57:41 > 0:57:44Could this modern Aussie pad be right for them?

0:57:44 > 0:57:47Wow! I like that.

0:57:47 > 0:57:49That's different, isn't it?

0:57:49 > 0:57:52Mmm. Very modern.

0:57:52 > 0:57:55- I like the colours. - I like the floor.

0:57:55 > 0:57:58- The island.- Very nice.

0:57:58 > 0:58:02- That's where your fridge-freezer goes.- Is that a dishwasher?

0:58:02 > 0:58:03Oh, yeah, ooh!

0:58:04 > 0:58:07I mean, it's more modern than we've ever had before,

0:58:07 > 0:58:09but it's really nice.

0:58:09 > 0:58:11We've never had modern like this.

0:58:11 > 0:58:13- It's your taste, is it? - You like it, Ames?- Yes.

0:58:13 > 0:58:19So Aimee approves, but will just two bedrooms keep everyone else happy?

0:58:20 > 0:58:22- This is nice.- It's quite small.

0:58:22 > 0:58:26You could probably get two singles in here.

0:58:26 > 0:58:29But it's not a very big space for them.

0:58:29 > 0:58:30Now this is lovely.

0:58:31 > 0:58:34It is nice, but it is just two bedrooms.

0:58:34 > 0:58:37If we didn't have children, this would be ideal!

0:58:37 > 0:58:40But we've got to think of you as well, haven't we?

0:58:40 > 0:58:41Yeah!

0:58:41 > 0:58:45Once again, things are looking a little cramped,

0:58:45 > 0:58:48but there is plenty of room out on the terrace.

0:58:48 > 0:58:50That's a nice view.

0:58:50 > 0:58:53- This is lovely. - Wow. This is a big balcony.

0:58:53 > 0:58:55This would definitely suit me.

0:58:55 > 0:58:59There is no garden again, but you don't have to mow lawns if there's no garden.

0:59:02 > 0:59:06Despite the size, this apartment looks the part,

0:59:06 > 0:59:11but will it be more or less affordable than the first?

0:59:11 > 0:59:15I think this is going to be more expensive than the last one.

0:59:15 > 0:59:16- Yeah?- It's slightly bigger.

0:59:16 > 0:59:19- A lot bigger.- It's further out.

0:59:19 > 0:59:21It is further from the beach.

0:59:21 > 0:59:24- But the finish is...- A lot nicer.

0:59:24 > 0:59:26..a better quality.

0:59:27 > 0:59:30- Still two bedrooms, though. - And it's still only two bedrooms.

0:59:30 > 0:59:32- Ready?- We'll see.

0:59:35 > 0:59:36- Ooh!- Dear me.

0:59:36 > 0:59:38386,000.

0:59:38 > 0:59:41We might have to think about moving away further from the beach,

0:59:41 > 0:59:44even though this is further from the last one,

0:59:44 > 0:59:47it might have to be that that's what we compromise on.

0:59:47 > 0:59:50We can't afford...

0:59:50 > 0:59:54If we wanted to come to Australia, then we have to compromise more

0:59:54 > 0:59:57than perhaps we thought we would have.

0:59:57 > 0:59:59- YOU'LL have to compromise. - I'LL have to compromise.

0:59:59 > 1:00:01And go surfing less!

1:00:03 > 1:00:06- As long as I'm with you and the girls...- Ah!

1:00:06 > 1:00:09..anywhere will be fine.

1:00:11 > 1:00:13Ah, that's very noble of Ben.

1:00:13 > 1:00:17But could he really give up his dream of a surfer lifestyle?

1:00:17 > 1:00:20With the second property well over budget,

1:00:20 > 1:00:24everything rests on the Wallaces' final stop.

1:00:24 > 1:00:28Getting the right location and size is clearly going to be tough in Sydney

1:00:28 > 1:00:32and one option may be an Aussie doer upper.

1:00:32 > 1:00:35So, we're ending the search near the beach, in Manly North.

1:00:35 > 1:00:38The third property is a traditional weatherboard house

1:00:38 > 1:00:42and should be big enough for the Wallaces' needs.

1:00:45 > 1:00:47Oh, it's big!

1:00:47 > 1:00:51- A nice fireplace. - Quite a nice size, isn't it?- Yeah.

1:00:51 > 1:00:55- It's dated and would need work... - But not a lot of work. It's only cosmetic.

1:00:55 > 1:01:00This is probably more our type of property than the apartments we've looked at, really.

1:01:01 > 1:01:04Oh, they've got two single beds. What do you reckon?

1:01:04 > 1:01:08- Yeah.- So, it's probably just two bedrooms again.

1:01:08 > 1:01:11- It's sort of like a bungalow.- It is.

1:01:11 > 1:01:14- It is a bungalow, yes. - It's a promising start.

1:01:14 > 1:01:17Ben has a plan to find that all-important extra bedroom.

1:01:17 > 1:01:20If you made it open plan and moved it that way, you'd turn that into a bedroom.

1:01:20 > 1:01:23That's what I'm saying. So you could have three bedrooms.

1:01:23 > 1:01:27This, you don't need it as a dining room or study.

1:01:27 > 1:01:31- Can we have a look at the garden? - We can go out and see what there is.

1:01:31 > 1:01:35Outside there's a walled garden that should have plenty of space

1:01:35 > 1:01:37for the family's surfboards.

1:01:37 > 1:01:39We did a full renovation in New Zealand

1:01:39 > 1:01:43and it actually properly was in a worse state than this.

1:01:43 > 1:01:46So, it's a similar project,

1:01:46 > 1:01:51but in a hopefully better area, even though it's raining at the moment.

1:01:51 > 1:01:57- But...- It's doable.- Yeah.- Well... - All according to the price.

1:02:00 > 1:02:04Although Ben and Amanda aren't put off by the amount of work needed,

1:02:04 > 1:02:08another big renovation project wasn't in their plan for the move.

1:02:08 > 1:02:13So, will the price of this house provide answers or more questions?

1:02:13 > 1:02:16- Shall we have a look? - Go on then.

1:02:16 > 1:02:19£450,000.

1:02:19 > 1:02:21For a doer upperer.

1:02:21 > 1:02:25Well, I suppose on par with other things in Manly themselves,

1:02:25 > 1:02:30or Manly Vale or around this area, we knew it would be that sort of price.

1:02:30 > 1:02:32Disappointed, I suppose.

1:02:32 > 1:02:35That's £200,000 over budget.

1:02:35 > 1:02:38Is the dream location simply out of reach

1:02:38 > 1:02:42or can they find a silver lining behind all those zeros?

1:02:42 > 1:02:44- It doesn't mean it's over.- No.

1:02:44 > 1:02:48- We learned our lesson in New Zealand, haven't we? - Not to rush into it.

1:02:48 > 1:02:52Take a step back and give ourselves a bit more time, really.

1:02:52 > 1:02:56If there's this in the centre of Manly, what is there further up?

1:02:56 > 1:02:59- It's not the end of it yet.- No.

1:02:59 > 1:03:03- Not the end of your dream yet, is it, love, to live by the beach?- Yeah.

1:03:03 > 1:03:07It's been an eye-opening experience for the Wallaces.

1:03:07 > 1:03:11The first apartment was too small and soon ruled out.

1:03:11 > 1:03:15The second had the looks, but it came with a big price tag.

1:03:15 > 1:03:19And the last was ideally placed, but wildly over budget.

1:03:21 > 1:03:25So, which way will they vote on houses in Australia?

1:03:36 > 1:03:40- UK.- Australia. - I'm in the middle.

1:03:40 > 1:03:42Why?

1:03:42 > 1:03:47Because the apartments and houses we've seen today

1:03:47 > 1:03:53- don't suit our needs... - I agree with you.- ..and they're far too expensive in this area.

1:03:53 > 1:03:57I've gone half and half because obviously we won't be able to afford to live in Manly,

1:03:57 > 1:04:02but there are other areas on the East Coast and going up towards Brisbane as well

1:04:02 > 1:04:06we can look at and research and look to live there maybe.

1:04:06 > 1:04:10And it's cold in Manly!

1:04:10 > 1:04:14It's been a less than warm welcome back down under for the Wallaces.

1:04:14 > 1:04:17But if they're ready to compromise on a housing location,

1:04:17 > 1:04:21a new start could still be within reach.

1:04:25 > 1:04:29Sydney's sky-high prices have come as a real shock to the Wallaces

1:04:29 > 1:04:33and left their Aussie dream high in the air.

1:04:33 > 1:04:36But with any life in Sydney being an expensive one,

1:04:36 > 1:04:40everything depends on Ben and Amanda finding good work opportunities.

1:04:43 > 1:04:46In the UK, Amanda works in nurse recruitment

1:04:46 > 1:04:48and earns £27,000 a year.

1:04:48 > 1:04:52But she wants to get back to a nursing role in Australia.

1:04:52 > 1:04:54I'm looking to get more clinically involved

1:04:54 > 1:04:57again in the role of the nurse,

1:04:57 > 1:05:00either practice nursing, which I've done in this country,

1:05:00 > 1:05:04or occupational health nursing, which I've done in this country as well.

1:05:04 > 1:05:08I don't particularly want to have to work full-time over in Australia.

1:05:08 > 1:05:12Um, that's going to be left to Ben.

1:05:12 > 1:05:16But Ben is a little more open about what he'd like to do.

1:05:16 > 1:05:19I be looking to do anything basically.

1:05:19 > 1:05:22As long as I had an income, I'm not particularly worried.

1:05:22 > 1:05:25Anything sort of surveying, facilities management,

1:05:25 > 1:05:28asset management-type job, I'd be looking in those areas.

1:05:30 > 1:05:33Today, both Amanda and Ben are going to have a taste

1:05:33 > 1:05:36of what it might be like to work in Australia.

1:05:38 > 1:05:40Amanda is first to set off.

1:05:40 > 1:05:44She's keen not to repeat the mistakes of their last experience down under.

1:05:44 > 1:05:47'I worked four nights a week in a maternity hospital.'

1:05:47 > 1:05:51It was like an hour each way for me to get to work.

1:05:51 > 1:05:56Ben wasn't really that bothered in finding a job. So that's where things went wrong.

1:05:56 > 1:05:59I'm just hoping that things are going to be different.

1:05:59 > 1:06:05Ben is going to hopefully be more motivated and hopefully has grown up a bit more

1:06:05 > 1:06:08in the last five, six years, to realise that,

1:06:08 > 1:06:11to actually get this sort of lifestyle, you have got to work.

1:06:11 > 1:06:16We're coming out here for the children, not just for him to surf, really.

1:06:16 > 1:06:21As the main visa applicant, we've arranged for her to spend the morning on a maternity ward.

1:06:21 > 1:06:25Unit manager Isabel Cullen-Romqvist will show her the ropes.

1:06:25 > 1:06:29- So, you want to have a look around? - Yes, please.- Cool. Come on, let's go.

1:06:29 > 1:06:31This is the postnatal ward.

1:06:31 > 1:06:33We've got 20 beds, 12 rooms.

1:06:33 > 1:06:36Er, some rooms are single rooms.

1:06:36 > 1:06:38I think there are four or five single rooms

1:06:38 > 1:06:41and the rest are two beds in each room.

1:06:41 > 1:06:43This is room three. This is one of the single rooms.

1:06:43 > 1:06:47We try not to double up women unless we have to.

1:06:47 > 1:06:49If we're really busy, we'll double up.

1:06:49 > 1:06:53- Only single rooms in the UK are for high risk patients.- Oh, right!

1:06:53 > 1:06:56Obviously, they come back here postnatally.

1:06:56 > 1:06:58Where do they go to deliver?

1:06:58 > 1:07:03- Delivery suites or...?- Absolutely. We've got a birthing unit. Why don't we go and have a look?

1:07:03 > 1:07:05- Come with me.- Thank you.

1:07:05 > 1:07:10While Amanda continues her tour, Ben is exploring his work options.

1:07:10 > 1:07:14It's really important to find work while I'm in Australia.

1:07:14 > 1:07:16Just to bring a living into the family

1:07:16 > 1:07:19and look after the girls, give them the lifestyle they want.

1:07:19 > 1:07:24It took me a long time to find work in New Zealand. I went there with the wrong attitude.

1:07:24 > 1:07:30That did sort of grind on Amanda. She was working from day one from being there. So, it was a big issue.

1:07:30 > 1:07:34I wouldn't want that to happen again. I'd like to find work first.

1:07:34 > 1:07:38For Ben, an ideal job would be running a surf shop.

1:07:38 > 1:07:43To find out whether it could be a practical option, he's spending the morning at Manly Beach.

1:07:43 > 1:07:48Store manager Gerard McCallum gives him the lowdown on the business.

1:07:48 > 1:07:51- How are you?- Ben.- Gerard.

1:07:51 > 1:07:53- What can you tell me about the business?- What we do,

1:07:53 > 1:07:57a few different sides to this shop. You've got new boards, second-hand boards.

1:07:57 > 1:08:01We do rentals, repairs, wetsuits.

1:08:01 > 1:08:04The main thing is just finding the right board for the right person.

1:08:04 > 1:08:08- Yeah.- Working out the correct volume for their weight.

1:08:08 > 1:08:11And it's kind of challenging because a lot of people think

1:08:11 > 1:08:14they're a lot better than they are, so it's hard to get right.

1:08:14 > 1:08:19Ben loves the surf talk, but he's also keen to get down to the serious business.

1:08:19 > 1:08:23The big question is, what sort of salary would you be looking at?

1:08:23 > 1:08:26You'd be looking around 40 grand a year, so...

1:08:26 > 1:08:30- That's about 800 a week before tax. - OK.- You have to put in quite a lot of hours, being retail,

1:08:30 > 1:08:34but definitely you'll have to put in some weekend hours,

1:08:34 > 1:08:37because that's when everyone else isn't working.

1:08:37 > 1:08:41That would be your busiest day, wouldn't it? Saturday and Sunday.

1:08:41 > 1:08:44That's great. You've been informative.

1:08:44 > 1:08:47- Nice to meet you.- Nice to meet you. See you again. Bye.

1:08:47 > 1:08:51What a place to work! Across the road, on a beach, into the water.

1:08:51 > 1:08:57That would be a dream for any surfer, I suppose. 40,000.

1:08:57 > 1:09:00It's not that far off what we were earning in the UK.

1:09:00 > 1:09:04So it could possibly sustain us for a while

1:09:04 > 1:09:08so it could be more of a stopgap sort of job for me whilst looking

1:09:08 > 1:09:12for something that I would feel I'd be more suited to, basically.

1:09:12 > 1:09:15It looks as if the dream job isn't going to be realistic,

1:09:15 > 1:09:18but is then happy with his choice?

1:09:18 > 1:09:21Since coming back from New Zealand, I think I've grown up a lot more.

1:09:21 > 1:09:24I take things a lot more serious than I did before,

1:09:24 > 1:09:25especially family-wise.

1:09:25 > 1:09:29What's gone on since the return from New Zealand,

1:09:29 > 1:09:33it's made me realise that family is the main thing, basically.

1:09:33 > 1:09:36That's great news for Amanda.

1:09:36 > 1:09:40Back on the ward, she's also getting down to business matters.

1:09:40 > 1:09:42What's the salary like over here?

1:09:42 > 1:09:45- Roughly 90,000. - Right. Gosh!- A year.

1:09:45 > 1:09:49That's a lot. It's double what I'm on now.

1:09:49 > 1:09:51That's good, that's good for you.

1:09:51 > 1:09:55It looks like Amanda could earn around £60,000,

1:09:55 > 1:09:59which is welcome news. But are there any vacancies?

1:09:59 > 1:10:02We are looking for midwives, part-time and full-time.

1:10:02 > 1:10:05It's internal. But I'd say other hospitals,

1:10:05 > 1:10:07there seems to be a shortage,

1:10:07 > 1:10:11- so I'm sure you'll be right.- Lovely!

1:10:11 > 1:10:15Have Ben and Amanda been won over by working in Australia

1:10:15 > 1:10:19or would they rather stick with the UK?

1:10:21 > 1:10:25We've had an interesting day today, finding out

1:10:25 > 1:10:28all sorts of different things about jobs we could do in Australia.

1:10:28 > 1:10:30Now it's time to vote.

1:10:38 > 1:10:42- Australia.- Australia.

1:10:42 > 1:10:44- Why?- The money.

1:10:44 > 1:10:48And I could probably work part-time which is what I want to do.

1:10:48 > 1:10:51- Definitely.- Why did you choose it?

1:10:51 > 1:10:54I just want to live in Australia so I'll do anything, basically.

1:10:54 > 1:10:57And find something that's relevant to what I do at the moment.

1:10:57 > 1:11:00- A proper job! - Not so much working in a surf shop,

1:11:00 > 1:11:05- but doing something I know what I'm doing basically.- Before we come out?

1:11:05 > 1:11:08- Before we come out. - So we're sorted when we get here.

1:11:11 > 1:11:14Ben's willingness to hang up his wetsuit

1:11:14 > 1:11:18and find a better paying job is welcome news for Amanda.

1:11:18 > 1:11:23But with finances looking tight, could the dream of living in Sydney

1:11:23 > 1:11:26be blinding them from what it might cost?

1:11:28 > 1:11:33Amanda believes their three-bedroom house in Newport is worth £150,000.

1:11:33 > 1:11:37And Ben thinks his two-bedroom house is valued at 120,000.

1:11:37 > 1:11:43They'll need the money from both properties in order to afford a house in Australia.

1:11:43 > 1:11:47- So, we've asked two local estate agents for their opinion.- Ready?- Yeah.

1:11:49 > 1:11:51My lovely little house.

1:11:52 > 1:11:56Ah! Look at my wallpaper!

1:11:56 > 1:11:58Lovely open plan kitchen.

1:11:58 > 1:12:01It looks as if it's been newly refitted as well.

1:12:01 > 1:12:06- Really nice.- The living room's rather nice. Nice and bright.

1:12:06 > 1:12:10Reproduction fireplace, polished floors. Lovely!

1:12:10 > 1:12:11Libby!

1:12:11 > 1:12:15This is a very pink room.

1:12:15 > 1:12:19It's a little girl's dream and is, at the same time, a really nice sized double.

1:12:19 > 1:12:21Looks tidy, love, for once.

1:12:21 > 1:12:24Look at those clothes!

1:12:24 > 1:12:27Really nice size. And as well, it's got a lovely outlook.

1:12:27 > 1:12:29Third bedroom.

1:12:29 > 1:12:33And somebody's obviously getting ready to go to Australia already.

1:12:33 > 1:12:36- THEY LAUGH - Oh, yeah!

1:12:38 > 1:12:41Oh, no! That's not a good look.

1:12:41 > 1:12:44It's a lovely family property.

1:12:44 > 1:12:47A three-bedroom semi-detached in a really popular residential area.

1:12:47 > 1:12:51I would expect this property to achieve in the region of £150,000.

1:12:51 > 1:12:53If they are looking at a quicker sale,

1:12:53 > 1:12:57they should expect to achieve approximately 140,000.

1:12:57 > 1:13:02Having valued the other property, I would expect that to achieve in the region of 115,000.

1:13:02 > 1:13:07For a quick sale again they should be looking at 105 towards 110,000.

1:13:07 > 1:13:10- I still made money. - I made more money on mine than you!

1:13:10 > 1:13:15I would recommend putting this property on the market at 155,000.

1:13:15 > 1:13:17For a quick sale, 145,000.

1:13:17 > 1:13:21The other property we saw, I would suggest an asking price of £115,000.

1:13:21 > 1:13:25For a quick sell, £105,000.

1:13:28 > 1:13:31- I'm really pleased with my valuation. - It's what I was expecting.

1:13:31 > 1:13:34I didn't expect to make any money on my property.

1:13:34 > 1:13:39I would probably have about 50, 55,000.

1:13:39 > 1:13:40I have about 20 if it sold for 115.

1:13:40 > 1:13:43So we'd have about 70, 75,

1:13:43 > 1:13:47which is about 90,000. Which is OK.

1:13:47 > 1:13:49Not too bad, I suppose.

1:13:49 > 1:13:52Despite Ben's estimate being lower than expected,

1:13:52 > 1:13:55they're staying positive.

1:13:55 > 1:13:58But they'll really need to look closely at the cost of living

1:13:58 > 1:14:00to see if they can afford this move.

1:14:04 > 1:14:07Right. So this is the shopping list.

1:14:07 > 1:14:12This is what we would buy on a regular basis. It's on a par. Yeah.

1:14:12 > 1:14:15So that's the shopping list.

1:14:15 > 1:14:17This is the bit that'll be really bad, I reckon.

1:14:17 > 1:14:21The properties. OK.

1:14:21 > 1:14:23Right, property three, 700,000.

1:14:23 > 1:14:27So, the repayments are £2,734,

1:14:27 > 1:14:30but, yeah, you would have to do it up as well, so...

1:14:30 > 1:14:33- So, you'd need the money to do it up.- Yeah.

1:14:34 > 1:14:37So, we'd actually be...

1:14:37 > 1:14:40£1,506 worse off per month.

1:14:40 > 1:14:43- If we lived in Manly. - If we lived in Manly.

1:14:43 > 1:14:47This is worst-case scenario in the most expensive place we could possibly think of.

1:14:47 > 1:14:50Yeah, and we could... We could do it.

1:14:50 > 1:14:53Yeah. So, yeah. It's not going to put me off.

1:14:53 > 1:14:55No. Good news, really.

1:14:56 > 1:15:00Even though their living costs could be much higher in Australia,

1:15:00 > 1:15:03Ben and Amanda think their incomes will cover the difference.

1:15:03 > 1:15:06Will they vote with their hearts or with their heads?

1:15:06 > 1:15:08We've done the reality check,

1:15:08 > 1:15:10we've done the facts, the figures and the numbers,

1:15:10 > 1:15:13and now it's time to vote.

1:15:16 > 1:15:18- Australia.- Australia.

1:15:21 > 1:15:23So, why?

1:15:23 > 1:15:29- Because I can earn a relatively good wage, so I could go part-time.- Yeah.

1:15:29 > 1:15:33You will, hopefully, be earning more money than you would in a shop,

1:15:33 > 1:15:37and so it is doable, and this is what the children want to do.

1:15:37 > 1:15:40And we both want to do it as well, so...

1:15:40 > 1:15:42it's about time we done it, really.

1:15:42 > 1:15:45- Put your house on the market, then. - It will be.

1:15:52 > 1:15:54The Wallaces are still persevering,

1:15:54 > 1:15:57even if it means a rethink on where they want to live.

1:15:57 > 1:16:01They're prepared to take the risk for the opportunity

1:16:01 > 1:16:05of a better family lifestyle that they've all dreamt about.

1:16:07 > 1:16:10Back home, Libby is a budding gymnast

1:16:10 > 1:16:13and being able to continue her sport in Australia is a must.

1:16:13 > 1:16:17So the Wallaces are heading down to Manly gymnastics club

1:16:17 > 1:16:20to find out what the facilities could offer her.

1:16:22 > 1:16:25- Hello.- Hi.- Hello. - So, you must be Libby.

1:16:25 > 1:16:28Hi, Libby, I'm Natalie, I'm the head women's coach here.

1:16:28 > 1:16:31After brief introductions, Libby's put through her paces

1:16:31 > 1:16:34with ex-Chinese national gymnastics coach, Xiaoqing Li.

1:16:34 > 1:16:39She's keen to find out if Libby is good enough to be accepted

1:16:39 > 1:16:41on the Australian national gymnastic programme.

1:16:41 > 1:16:43Two...three...

1:16:43 > 1:16:45Faster! Sprint!

1:16:45 > 1:16:48This is fantastic, it's just, you know, so much better.

1:16:48 > 1:16:50You can do so much more things

1:16:50 > 1:16:53and teach so many more children, can't you,

1:16:53 > 1:16:54with this sort of facility.

1:16:54 > 1:16:57One... Straight leg. Two...

1:16:57 > 1:17:01I think, obviously, finding the girls activities over here is paramount,

1:17:01 > 1:17:04because they want to continue what they're doing in the UK.

1:17:04 > 1:17:08Obviously, they can do this during the week and, obviously, weekends,

1:17:08 > 1:17:11if it allows, and then we've got the family time, then, haven't we?

1:17:11 > 1:17:13Yeah.

1:17:13 > 1:17:16I can say she's powerful. She jump high.

1:17:16 > 1:17:18Stand your leg straight.

1:17:18 > 1:17:20Open your shoulders. Head up.

1:17:20 > 1:17:22Yeah, when you go down, arch your head,

1:17:22 > 1:17:24knees straight. Good girl. All right.

1:17:26 > 1:17:28No, you came in too early. Keep going.

1:17:28 > 1:17:30Leave your arms here.

1:17:30 > 1:17:33I think Libby is good enough.

1:17:33 > 1:17:37In NDP programme, so, it's Australian national programme,

1:17:37 > 1:17:43if she come to Australia, I think she will have good future.

1:17:44 > 1:17:47Ah, that's better. Good girl.

1:17:47 > 1:17:51That's great news. So, after working out at the gym,

1:17:51 > 1:17:56it's time for some fun on one of Sydney's golden beaches.

1:17:56 > 1:17:59Um, we've come down to Manly beach

1:17:59 > 1:18:01for the girls to have a surf lesson,

1:18:01 > 1:18:03so, hopefully they might catch them later.

1:18:03 > 1:18:07It's not very good weather today, apparently, for surfing.

1:18:07 > 1:18:08It's a bit choppy.

1:18:08 > 1:18:11Oh, dear. It looks like the weather as turned a bit British.

1:18:11 > 1:18:14The conditions here are very much like home.

1:18:14 > 1:18:16Windy, rainy, cold. So we're used to it anyway.

1:18:16 > 1:18:18Bit acclimatised to this type of weather.

1:18:18 > 1:18:21But rain is not allowed to stop play.

1:18:21 > 1:18:25If you're going to learn surfing, you've got to go out in all conditions.

1:18:25 > 1:18:28So, if you start on a hard day and you have fun on a hard day,

1:18:28 > 1:18:30you're going to have a great time when it's easier.

1:18:30 > 1:18:33And there's no time to waste as instructor James

1:18:33 > 1:18:35gets the girls straight into the water.

1:18:52 > 1:18:56Go, Aimee! Woo-hoo-hoo!

1:19:09 > 1:19:11It was great watching the girls have a go.

1:19:11 > 1:19:13Both of them stood up, so, really proud of them.

1:19:13 > 1:19:15Yeah, it was really good.

1:19:15 > 1:19:17And James was a really good teacher as well,

1:19:17 > 1:19:19you know, to get Libby stood up first time.

1:19:19 > 1:19:21You can't ask for any more than that, can you?

1:19:23 > 1:19:28After a busy day in and out of the water, it's time vote on lifestyle.

1:19:32 > 1:19:34Australia!

1:19:35 > 1:19:37- He-he-hey!- Why you?

1:19:37 > 1:19:40I just love being on the beach, so it's a bonus for me, isn't it?

1:19:40 > 1:19:44- What about you, Libs? - Cos they've nice gyms.- Aimee?

1:19:44 > 1:19:48- Uh, both the activities were good. - I just like this sort of lifestyle.

1:19:48 > 1:19:51It's quite laid back and I need to be more laid back,

1:19:51 > 1:19:53so it's a vote from me.

1:19:58 > 1:20:02Sampling the Aussie lifestyle was a big success,

1:20:02 > 1:20:06even if it did have a bit of Newport weather thrown in for good measure.

1:20:06 > 1:20:09But the Wallaces know full well just how far they'd be

1:20:09 > 1:20:11from everything they have at home,

1:20:11 > 1:20:15so will saying goodbye to friends and family

1:20:15 > 1:20:18be easier or harder second time round?

1:20:20 > 1:20:24So, we've prepared some messages from their loved ones in the UK.

1:20:24 > 1:20:27Do you think it's OK for the children to watch?

1:20:27 > 1:20:29Yeah. Libby wants to see Maz and Tina

1:20:29 > 1:20:31and Aimee wants to see her running coaches

1:20:31 > 1:20:32so, yeah, I think that's fine.

1:20:34 > 1:20:37'Hi, Ben, Amanda and Libby and Aimee.'

1:20:37 > 1:20:38Hi, Aimee.

1:20:38 > 1:20:41Hello, Libby!

1:20:41 > 1:20:46Ben and Amanda, I really hope you're making the right decision this time,

1:20:46 > 1:20:49for yourselves and for the girls.

1:20:49 > 1:20:52I shall miss Aimee and Libby a lot,

1:20:52 > 1:20:55'because I meet them twice a week from school and we make cakes'

1:20:55 > 1:21:00and we do cooking and they tell me all their problems,

1:21:00 > 1:21:01so I will miss them.

1:21:01 > 1:21:04We're all really missing you here at Newport Harriers.

1:21:04 > 1:21:05We've been training really hard,

1:21:05 > 1:21:08we're going through our sprint and speed sessions,

1:21:08 > 1:21:11'we miss you sprinting down that track, beating everybody.'

1:21:11 > 1:21:15Hi, Libby. Hope you're having a fantastic time in Australia.

1:21:15 > 1:21:19- Everybody misses you, we send our love.- Aw.

1:21:19 > 1:21:23I hope you're keeping up with your flexibility training.

1:21:23 > 1:21:26But not too much. We miss you here.

1:21:26 > 1:21:27'Well, Aimee.'

1:21:27 > 1:21:31You know how much Grandma loves you and how much I'll miss you.

1:21:32 > 1:21:35And you, Libby, I hope

1:21:35 > 1:21:39'that you will continue with the gymnastics'

1:21:39 > 1:21:42and really do well. Eat your food.

1:21:42 > 1:21:46We both will miss you very, very much indeed.

1:21:46 > 1:21:50'I don't want anything to go wrong this time, if at all possible'

1:21:50 > 1:21:56and that you're all one big happy family.

1:21:56 > 1:22:01I hope things will go well for all of you, always.

1:22:04 > 1:22:06LIBBY SOBS

1:22:06 > 1:22:08Come on.

1:22:11 > 1:22:12I'm OK.

1:22:12 > 1:22:15Is it cos of Grandma crying?

1:22:15 > 1:22:18Yeah, you've probably never seen Grandma upset, have you?

1:22:18 > 1:22:20You're going to see them soon, anyway.

1:22:20 > 1:22:23It was quite hard, really, watching that.

1:22:23 > 1:22:25Especially my mother.

1:22:25 > 1:22:28I knew she would be, you know, upset.

1:22:28 > 1:22:31We knew she would be like it, didn't we?

1:22:31 > 1:22:33Yeah, I knew my mother would be like that

1:22:33 > 1:22:35and I think it was a bit of a...

1:22:35 > 1:22:37sort of, a shock for her as well, cos, sort of,

1:22:37 > 1:22:39everything's happened so quickly.

1:22:39 > 1:22:42- Where we are now... - To get back together.

1:22:42 > 1:22:44And get married and come to Australia,

1:22:44 > 1:22:47so, it's probably been quite a lot for her to take in, as well.

1:22:48 > 1:22:51I mean, they're obviously concerned

1:22:51 > 1:22:55that we emigrated to New Zealand and we came back.

1:22:55 > 1:22:59I think they just hope we're doing the right thing for the girls.

1:23:01 > 1:23:03My mum did look a bit upset.

1:23:03 > 1:23:07You know, all her grandchildren will live halfway round the world.

1:23:10 > 1:23:13Seeing messages has reminded the Wallaces

1:23:13 > 1:23:16of just how painful another move could be for them.

1:23:16 > 1:23:19After all the family have been through,

1:23:19 > 1:23:22can Australia really offer a future worth the risk?

1:23:22 > 1:23:24As their week draws to a close,

1:23:24 > 1:23:28it's time for them to make their final choice.

1:23:28 > 1:23:31Emotionally, it's been quite draining, really, you know?

1:23:31 > 1:23:33It's a big risk coming out to Australia, I suppose.

1:23:33 > 1:23:35I haven't done it before.

1:23:35 > 1:23:37You'll have to think about everything, really.

1:23:37 > 1:23:41How it's going to affect the family, obviously, our parents, friends.

1:23:41 > 1:23:44But ultimately it is about us starting a new life.

1:23:46 > 1:23:50And, obviously, we got divorced for several different reasons

1:23:50 > 1:23:54and I think we're more grown up, now, we know what we want.

1:23:54 > 1:23:56Ben knows he has got responsibilities.

1:23:59 > 1:24:02And we know the pitfalls now. We know the signs to look out for,

1:24:02 > 1:24:06where we went wrong the last time, basically.

1:24:06 > 1:24:09We went through the ups and the downs, and, you know

1:24:09 > 1:24:11I believe our relationship is stronger now.

1:24:13 > 1:24:16Ben and Amanda may have learned lessons

1:24:16 > 1:24:18from their first attempt to emigrate...

1:24:20 > 1:24:23..but their week in Australia has shown them that another move

1:24:23 > 1:24:28won't come without its own heartaches and headaches.

1:24:28 > 1:24:31So, will they choose a new start all over again?

1:24:38 > 1:24:40ALL: Australia!

1:24:45 > 1:24:47- It is nice weather, isn't it? And it's...- Sometimes.

1:24:47 > 1:24:50- And the opportunities are better. - Yeah.

1:24:50 > 1:24:54Australia's better than I ever thought.

1:24:54 > 1:24:56It's always been something I've wanted to do.

1:24:56 > 1:25:00We'll have a better lifestyle and it'll just be...better.

1:25:00 > 1:25:03You know I've always wanted to come to Australia for the lifestyle

1:25:03 > 1:25:07and the weather and the surfing, so that's why I voted Australia.

1:25:08 > 1:25:10- And for the family. - And for the family.

1:25:10 > 1:25:13To give them opportunities they won't get back in the UK.

1:25:13 > 1:25:17- So, when are we booking our tickets to come back?- Next year.

1:25:22 > 1:25:26The Wallaces had to face some tough times

1:25:26 > 1:25:29in order to make their big decision to move.

1:25:30 > 1:25:32After being home for a month,

1:25:32 > 1:25:36I met Amanda and Ben to find out if their plans were still on track.

1:25:36 > 1:25:39This has been a really important year for you both.

1:25:39 > 1:25:42Well, for the whole family. You got remarried, so, congratulations.

1:25:42 > 1:25:45- Thank you. - I know the girls are delighted.

1:25:45 > 1:25:49But taking that step to go back out and try it all over again

1:25:49 > 1:25:54knowing that it went so badly wrong the first time,

1:25:54 > 1:25:56were you very nervous about that?

1:25:56 > 1:25:58I was. I was nervous about where we were going,

1:25:58 > 1:26:02just cos I didn't particularly want to go back to Sydney, but...

1:26:04 > 1:26:07No, I... You know, I thought it was an opportunity for us

1:26:07 > 1:26:10to have a look round, and Aimee's desperate to go

1:26:10 > 1:26:12and she was the one that was worst affected

1:26:12 > 1:26:17through the divorce and everything, and she was so positive about going,

1:26:17 > 1:26:21so I think her determination really inspired us all.

1:26:21 > 1:26:23Driving us all, I suppose, yeah.

1:26:23 > 1:26:25What lessons do you think you learned

1:26:25 > 1:26:28from going to New Zealand that, sort of, changed your mind

1:26:28 > 1:26:31and you were prepared to try again, this time in Australia?

1:26:31 > 1:26:34Ben's going to put an effort in this time!

1:26:34 > 1:26:38Yeah, I went in with the wrong attitude, I suppose, last time

1:26:38 > 1:26:41and this time I know what to expect, so I know what to look for.

1:26:41 > 1:26:43Yeah. And you know you've got to work!

1:26:43 > 1:26:45And for you, Ben, is that the big difference?

1:26:45 > 1:26:48Did you feel with New Zealand it was, sort of, more, perhaps,

1:26:48 > 1:26:52of a holiday time than knuckling down?

1:26:52 > 1:26:54Yeah. I know not to do that this time,

1:26:54 > 1:26:56I know I've got to get a job for the family, basically.

1:26:56 > 1:27:01Is that the proviso? Is it? Come on, let's be honest, now.

1:27:01 > 1:27:03He's going to find full-time work...

1:27:03 > 1:27:05- Definitely. - ..and he's allowed to surf

1:27:05 > 1:27:07at the weekends, or the evenings.

1:27:07 > 1:27:09And in the mornings if he gets up earlier.

1:27:09 > 1:27:11That sounds like the perfect compromise.

1:27:11 > 1:27:14- Yep, I'm happy with that. - And it is warmer over there

1:27:14 > 1:27:17- so I might don a wetsuit and have a go myself.- Yeah.

1:27:17 > 1:27:19How fantastic! So, my last question is

1:27:19 > 1:27:22how quickly are you going to be returning?

1:27:23 > 1:27:26Hopefully in the next 12 months to 18 months.

1:27:26 > 1:27:30- We'll be living in...- The sunshine. - Yeah. On the beach.

1:27:30 > 1:27:31Well, it sounds amazing.

1:27:31 > 1:27:36We're sitting here today and it's pretty cold in Wales today.

1:27:41 > 1:27:45For the Wallace family, the week in Sydney gave them a chance

1:27:45 > 1:27:49to revisit their dream of a new life down under.

1:27:49 > 1:27:50Both Ben and Mandy agreed

1:27:50 > 1:27:52they've learnt from their previous experiences

1:27:52 > 1:27:56and are now keen for a fresh start for the whole family,

1:27:56 > 1:27:58this time, in Australia.

1:27:58 > 1:28:02It sounds like exciting times ahead for the Wallaces.
