0:45:03 > 0:45:08At some point, most of us dream of a brand-new start in a far-off land,

0:45:08 > 0:45:12but the reality of uprooting your lives can be a tough process

0:45:12 > 0:45:15for any family to face, especially when it can mean

0:45:15 > 0:45:18leaving behind one of your children.

0:45:18 > 0:45:22It's a big gamble to move your family all the way to Australia

0:45:22 > 0:45:24based on childhood memories.

0:45:24 > 0:45:27What have I done dragging everyone around the world?

0:45:27 > 0:45:30Especially when the reality turns out to be very different.

0:45:30 > 0:45:33I can't believe the house prices here are so expensive.

0:45:33 > 0:45:35We seem to be stuck in the same rut.

0:45:35 > 0:45:37Very disappointing.

0:45:37 > 0:45:40And it threatens to tear your family apart.

0:45:40 > 0:45:44I'm going to let someone down.

0:45:44 > 0:45:46With so much at stake,

0:45:46 > 0:45:50could you make the decision to start a new life Down Under?

0:46:15 > 0:46:18Australia is the most popular country for Brits moving abroad.

0:46:18 > 0:46:22They may be tempted by its 10,000 beaches,

0:46:22 > 0:46:24sunny climate and famous relaxed lifestyle.

0:46:24 > 0:46:29But life Down Under doesn't always deliver the paradise newcomers may imagine.

0:46:32 > 0:46:36Amongst the latest new arrivals are the Gill family from Plymouth.

0:46:36 > 0:46:38Ahead of them are some huge decisions

0:46:38 > 0:46:42as they sample life in Australia for one week.

0:46:42 > 0:46:45At the end of it, they'll have to make a final choice -

0:46:45 > 0:46:49to stay in the UK or start a new life Down Under.

0:46:51 > 0:46:54Their journey to Australia is long a 9,000 miles.

0:46:54 > 0:46:56After nearly 24 hours in the air,

0:46:56 > 0:47:00the Gills arrive in Perth tired and a little unprepared.

0:47:01 > 0:47:03I forgot how long it takes you to get here.

0:47:03 > 0:47:07And we've arrived and it's raining. We've brought the weather with us.

0:47:07 > 0:47:09I've brought the wrong clothes!

0:47:09 > 0:47:13The journey has brought home the difficulties of travelling so far.

0:47:13 > 0:47:17It is a huge distance. And, yeah, absolutely shattered.

0:47:17 > 0:47:21We're only at the airport and it's starting to hit home.

0:47:21 > 0:47:23They'll need to get plenty of rest

0:47:23 > 0:47:27as they have a tough week ahead in Australia, a long way from home.

0:47:31 > 0:47:3639-year-old Kevin and wife Charlotte, 48, have two children,

0:47:36 > 0:47:39daughter Samantha, who is 22, and son George, who's nine.

0:47:41 > 0:47:45The Gills live in the coastal town of Plymouth in Devon

0:47:45 > 0:47:48where Kevin has served in the Royal Navy for 20 years.

0:47:48 > 0:47:52But with retirement looming for Kevin the family is about to begin

0:47:52 > 0:47:55a new chapter of their lives.

0:47:55 > 0:47:59Obviously, the Navy's looked after us with the house, the work

0:47:59 > 0:48:04but now that's coming to an end, that support's going to disappear.

0:48:04 > 0:48:09With Kevin leaving the Navy, we lose accommodation, we lose housing.

0:48:09 > 0:48:13We need to find new housing, he also needs to find a new job.

0:48:13 > 0:48:15With everything looking uncertain,

0:48:15 > 0:48:19Charlotte believes their future could lie in Australia.

0:48:19 > 0:48:22I was a Ten Pound Pom. We moved out to Australia when I was two,

0:48:22 > 0:48:26with my brothers and sisters, and my father went to work in a mining town.

0:48:26 > 0:48:30The family lifestyle was brilliant, we had a nice little house.

0:48:30 > 0:48:32We used to go roaming around the bush.

0:48:32 > 0:48:37The opportunity to give my children that lifestyle would be fantastic.

0:48:37 > 0:48:40I'd like to show Kevin the reason why I enjoyed it so much.

0:48:40 > 0:48:43Living in Australia could make a difference for Charlotte's health.

0:48:43 > 0:48:47I suffer from a condition called ankylosing spondylitis.

0:48:47 > 0:48:51It affects the joints and it's affected by the weather.

0:48:51 > 0:48:55So, the temperate climate offered in Perth, I'm hoping will benefit.

0:48:55 > 0:48:58However, uprooting their lives and starting again

0:48:58 > 0:49:02on the other side of the world is not going to be plain sailing.

0:49:02 > 0:49:04The potential for disaster is huge.

0:49:04 > 0:49:07There is a lot of pressure on me right now.

0:49:07 > 0:49:11I'm feeling it for once. It's on my shoulders now.

0:49:11 > 0:49:14There's no support network, it's just me.

0:49:14 > 0:49:18If I don't get it right, we're goosed.

0:49:19 > 0:49:22But Kevin isn't the only one with doubts.

0:49:22 > 0:49:25Their daughter Samantha is feeling torn.

0:49:25 > 0:49:28At the moment there seems to be a big decision looming.

0:49:31 > 0:49:35I know my family would probably love to live in Australia,

0:49:35 > 0:49:36would absolutely love it,

0:49:36 > 0:49:39but I know they wouldn't move there without me.

0:49:41 > 0:49:44But I couldn't leave my boyfriend behind in the UK.

0:49:44 > 0:49:47So it's quite a tough call at the moment

0:49:47 > 0:49:49because I'm going to let down someone.

0:49:49 > 0:49:53It's a painful subject with no easy answers.

0:50:02 > 0:50:06I don't think I could miss seeing my brother grow up.

0:50:10 > 0:50:15I'd like to be there for him because I'm very protective of him.

0:50:15 > 0:50:21So I don't think I could miss out on being the protective older sister.

0:50:26 > 0:50:28I'm going to let someone down.

0:50:29 > 0:50:31So...

0:50:32 > 0:50:34Yeah.

0:50:34 > 0:50:36If Sam decides to stay in the UK,

0:50:36 > 0:50:39Charlotte will be torn between fulfilling a lifelong dream

0:50:39 > 0:50:41and leaving her daughter behind.

0:50:43 > 0:50:46I don't know how I'd deal with it.

0:50:46 > 0:50:48I can't even imagine it, so...

0:50:48 > 0:50:50I don't know how I would.

0:50:50 > 0:50:53I can't tell you how I'd feel because I can't imagine it.

0:50:54 > 0:50:58The Gills are at a turning point in their lives.

0:50:58 > 0:51:02With Kevin facing retirement they have to make a new start

0:51:02 > 0:51:04wherever they choose to live.

0:51:04 > 0:51:07And what's most important to Charlotte and Kevin

0:51:07 > 0:51:09is sharing that future with the whole family.

0:51:12 > 0:51:16Their home these seven days will be in Fremantle,

0:51:16 > 0:51:18on the coast just south of Perth.

0:51:18 > 0:51:21It's one of the most desirable areas in Western Australia.

0:51:21 > 0:51:24However, the Gills will have to wait until tomorrow

0:51:24 > 0:51:25to see how beautiful it is.

0:51:25 > 0:51:28And the journey in the dark and wet isn't quite living up

0:51:28 > 0:51:31to Charlotte's fond memories of Australia.

0:51:31 > 0:51:35I remember it being warmer than this! It's freezing!

0:51:35 > 0:51:39- But the house is lovely. Really nice. - It's very liveable, isn't it.

0:51:39 > 0:51:42It's lovely. Really cool.

0:51:43 > 0:51:47Oh, wow. Oh, it's two levels.

0:51:48 > 0:51:52I know what type of house this is. An upside down house.

0:51:52 > 0:51:53Oh, wow!

0:51:53 > 0:51:55Everyone is impressed

0:51:55 > 0:51:58but they're also keeping their feet on the ground.

0:51:58 > 0:52:02It's really nice but could we be able to afford somewhere like this?

0:52:02 > 0:52:04- Location is everything. - It depends on work.

0:52:04 > 0:52:11Well, I know house prices have gone mental in Western Australia.

0:52:11 > 0:52:14As the main visa applicant, Kevin is well aware

0:52:14 > 0:52:17of the job difficulties he faces.

0:52:17 > 0:52:21I've been in the same sort of comfort zone for the last 20 years.

0:52:21 > 0:52:25I'm stepping away from that so it's going to be a culture shock.

0:52:25 > 0:52:28To do it in another country is a secondary culture shock.

0:52:28 > 0:52:30You know...

0:52:30 > 0:52:32It's going to be difficult.

0:52:32 > 0:52:35Sam is also feeling the pressure.

0:52:35 > 0:52:37I'm stuck in the middle between moving to Australia

0:52:37 > 0:52:41or leaving, potentially, leaving behind someone.

0:52:43 > 0:52:45I don't think I can, so...

0:52:47 > 0:52:50It's Charlotte's childhood memories that have driven her

0:52:50 > 0:52:54to move the family to Fremantle, but now even she's having doubts.

0:52:55 > 0:52:59We figured out that it's 29 years, since I left Australia.

0:52:59 > 0:53:04- Yeah. It may have changed. - It might have changed slightly.

0:53:04 > 0:53:08It may not be the Fremantle or Western Australia I thought it was.

0:53:08 > 0:53:11It's a worry. What an earth have I done dragging the family

0:53:11 > 0:53:14half-way round the world and it could actually be awful.

0:53:15 > 0:53:18With the Gills already feeling the pressure of the move,

0:53:18 > 0:53:22the next seven days could be very difficult.

0:53:26 > 0:53:30If Charlotte's dream of living Down Under is to become a reality,

0:53:30 > 0:53:34finding the right house in the right area will be crucial.

0:53:34 > 0:53:39But trying to please everyone could be a major challenge.

0:53:41 > 0:53:45In the UK, the Gills live in a Navy house in Plymouth,

0:53:45 > 0:53:47which they're sadly having to leave.

0:53:47 > 0:53:49Life's pretty good here.

0:53:49 > 0:53:53Very happy here. It's a nice area, very nice, friendly people here.

0:53:53 > 0:53:57Within minutes of a city, minutes to the countryside,

0:53:57 > 0:53:59minutes to the sea.

0:53:59 > 0:54:01Very happy here, but we know we can't stay.

0:54:01 > 0:54:05And they're being modest about what they want in Australia.

0:54:05 > 0:54:07Don't want masses, don't want a massive house.

0:54:07 > 0:54:09We don't want masses of land.

0:54:09 > 0:54:15Three bedrooms would be nice, but four, if we could afford that we've got to look and see.

0:54:15 > 0:54:18But somewhere near the sea or overlooking the sea.

0:54:18 > 0:54:22Wouldn't that be stunning? But that would be a dream property,

0:54:22 > 0:54:25we don't realistically expect to get that.

0:54:25 > 0:54:28But if we could be within walking distance of the sea

0:54:28 > 0:54:31or even a five-minute drive, that would be lovely as well.

0:54:31 > 0:54:34Today, we'll give the Gills a taste of Perth's housing market.

0:54:34 > 0:54:37We'll show them three possible options

0:54:37 > 0:54:40based upon what they want from their ideal home,

0:54:40 > 0:54:44what they can afford and the real price of property Down Under.

0:54:44 > 0:54:46After they get to see what's on offer,

0:54:46 > 0:54:50we'll reveal to the family just how much each house costs.

0:54:50 > 0:54:53However, with big rises in Australian property prices,

0:54:53 > 0:54:58finding the ideal home could be a big ask.

0:54:58 > 0:55:04House prices are even higher near the coast so we're heading a few miles inland to the Wellard area.

0:55:04 > 0:55:07This new suburb on the outskirts of Perth is popular with families

0:55:07 > 0:55:11and with a university nearby, could suit Samantha.

0:55:11 > 0:55:16Will this three-bedroom house have everything the Gills want?

0:55:18 > 0:55:20Oh, wow.

0:55:20 > 0:55:23Oh, wow, that's pretty cool.

0:55:25 > 0:55:29- That'll do!- This would so be my TV, games room.

0:55:29 > 0:55:32OK. Sorted. That's really nice, isn't it?

0:55:35 > 0:55:37Oh, wow! I like the idea of this, actually.

0:55:37 > 0:55:39This is really a family area.

0:55:40 > 0:55:43Well, this house is a definite hit.

0:55:43 > 0:55:47In fact, I think Charlotte has already moved in.

0:55:47 > 0:55:51- This bit would be so nice with our table.- It would.

0:55:51 > 0:55:53- I like the breakfast bar.- Me too.

0:55:53 > 0:55:56I think it's really cool. I think it's a real family area.

0:55:56 > 0:55:59That's what I like about Australian houses,

0:55:59 > 0:56:02everybody sits and eats and talks together.

0:56:02 > 0:56:05I can see now what you're on about.

0:56:05 > 0:56:07There's loads of light, loads of windows.

0:56:07 > 0:56:10It's all going very well,

0:56:10 > 0:56:13but the small garden might change their tune.

0:56:13 > 0:56:16Nice eating area but I think this is obviously small,

0:56:16 > 0:56:18the outside area.

0:56:18 > 0:56:20I think you could buy bigger plots, know what I mean?

0:56:20 > 0:56:25But I like the size of the house, I think it's plenty big enough.

0:56:25 > 0:56:27Compared to what we're living in in the UK, so far,

0:56:27 > 0:56:31everything we live in the UK would fit in that one main room!

0:56:33 > 0:56:34It's really nice.

0:56:34 > 0:56:38- Can you see us here? - Yeah. I can see you guys here.

0:56:38 > 0:56:42- Can you see yourself here? - Don't know.

0:56:43 > 0:56:45Mmm, Sam's not sounding so enthused,

0:56:45 > 0:56:50maybe the walk-in wardrobes might persuade her to think otherwise.

0:56:50 > 0:56:52Sorry, Sam, but I think this might be mummy's area.

0:56:52 > 0:56:54OK. Forget that idea.

0:56:54 > 0:56:59Probably best to leave it to Mum. She's enjoying this house.

0:56:59 > 0:57:01I think it's really, really nice.

0:57:01 > 0:57:05- But, I've used the word nice a lot, I haven't gone...- Said "awesome".

0:57:05 > 0:57:08No. It's a really nice place, don't get me wrong,

0:57:08 > 0:57:11- but it's a little bit soulless. - Sterile.

0:57:11 > 0:57:13- Not a lot of character. - It's fresh.

0:57:13 > 0:57:15Yes, fresh and modern.

0:57:15 > 0:57:18- It's different.- Yeah, it's different to what we're used to

0:57:18 > 0:57:21- and I like the wardrobe. - I love the wardrobe.

0:57:23 > 0:57:25All that remains now is to find out the price.

0:57:25 > 0:57:29Although Charlotte could see them living here,

0:57:29 > 0:57:32is it anywhere near their £200,000 budget

0:57:32 > 0:57:35or will they have to set their sights a lot lower?

0:57:36 > 0:57:40- It's quite scary actually because we could be really out of it.- Yeah.

0:57:44 > 0:57:46- 205.- £205,000.

0:57:46 > 0:57:51- But the AD. - 320,000 dollars. £205,000.

0:57:51 > 0:57:54It's a good start - that could be within their budget,

0:57:54 > 0:57:56as long as Kevin can find the right job.

0:57:56 > 0:57:59That's a surprise. We could actually do that.

0:57:59 > 0:58:03That's sensible. We could do that without having a huge mortgage.

0:58:03 > 0:58:06That's crazy. You get so much more for your money.

0:58:06 > 0:58:08However, they're not planning on moving in.

0:58:08 > 0:58:11I think the location's a bit remote.

0:58:11 > 0:58:14I love the house but I think it's a long way from everywhere.

0:58:14 > 0:58:17Yeah. We were hoping more of a, sort of, walk into town

0:58:17 > 0:58:20and more amenities close by.

0:58:20 > 0:58:22It's really out the way.

0:58:22 > 0:58:26Do you think it's better at George's age where he can play outside?

0:58:26 > 0:58:29Yeah, I can't really go and hang out, you know,

0:58:29 > 0:58:31with my skateboard on a street corner!

0:58:31 > 0:58:34It's a good start to their house-hunting,

0:58:34 > 0:58:37but the Gills have still got a long way to go.

0:58:37 > 0:58:40The next house is in the Success Area.

0:58:40 > 0:58:42It's closer to the coast, and heavy industries

0:58:42 > 0:58:45where Kevin might find suitable work.

0:58:45 > 0:58:48Being popular with British immigrants, it could help the Gills

0:58:48 > 0:58:51feel at home more quickly.

0:58:51 > 0:58:55It's a four-bedroom house with plenty of space for a family.

0:58:58 > 0:59:01- It's a very strange space, isn't it? - Yeah.

0:59:01 > 0:59:04A definite drop in light compared to the other place.

0:59:04 > 0:59:07It seems quite dark, The layout's a bit weird.

0:59:07 > 0:59:10- All the lights are on and it's still quite dark.- Yeah.

0:59:14 > 0:59:17- Oh, this is wow!- Kitchen area. - It's still very, very dark.

0:59:17 > 0:59:21- Really dark.- It's lovely and open.

0:59:21 > 0:59:22I bet it's nice and cool though.

0:59:25 > 0:59:27Charlotte's not sounding convinced

0:59:27 > 0:59:29but something has caught George's eye.

0:59:29 > 0:59:31What do I see over there?

0:59:31 > 0:59:34What's that, son?

0:59:34 > 0:59:37- A pool.- No way?!

0:59:37 > 0:59:39- This is so awesome. - Yes! A swimming pool!

0:59:39 > 0:59:42Although no one seems to be rushing in.

0:59:42 > 0:59:46- It's huge!- I dare you to jump in. - I dare you to jump in.

0:59:46 > 0:59:50- I'll give you ten dollars. - I'll give you a hundred dollars.

0:59:50 > 0:59:52- You don't have a hundred dollars! - I do!

0:59:52 > 0:59:55That might sweeten the deal a bit, a pool for the boy.

0:59:55 > 0:59:57- Yeah...- We won't be able to keep him out of it.

0:59:57 > 0:59:59He'd like the outdoor lifestyle.

0:59:59 > 1:00:03- Come on, let's have a look. - Yeah, let's have a look.

1:00:03 > 1:00:05This house might be very spacious,

1:00:05 > 1:00:08but Charlotte is still full of doubts.

1:00:08 > 1:00:11- This is huge.- This must be the master bedroom, darling.- Wow.

1:00:11 > 1:00:13- It's a lovely big window. - I don't know.

1:00:13 > 1:00:16It's really dark in the middle and I don't like that.

1:00:16 > 1:00:20You could put a sky light in, or something, would bring you light,

1:00:20 > 1:00:23- but then again you're spending on top.- That's true, yeah.

1:00:23 > 1:00:25And it's got a lovely pool by the looks of it,

1:00:25 > 1:00:28but that's obviously going to add to the value.

1:00:28 > 1:00:31- I've been underwhelmed by the house, to be honest.- Yeah?

1:00:31 > 1:00:34Although Charlotte is losing interest in this house,

1:00:34 > 1:00:36the children have very different thoughts.

1:00:36 > 1:00:38- The pool is amazing isn't it?- Yeah,

1:00:38 > 1:00:42- the pool changed my mind completely.- Really?- Yeah.

1:00:43 > 1:00:47So, some of them have been won over,

1:00:47 > 1:00:49but there's still the small matter of the cost.

1:00:49 > 1:00:52Could the Gills actually afford this house?

1:00:52 > 1:00:55Time to find out the price.

1:00:55 > 1:01:00The price is £287,000.

1:01:00 > 1:01:04- Crikey.- I thought it was going to be expensive because it's got a pool

1:01:04 > 1:01:07but it's taking up the whole garden. That's a lot of money.

1:01:07 > 1:01:10- It's a big step up. - And the fourth bedroom.

1:01:10 > 1:01:14- And we don't need either.- No. - We do need the pool, though.

1:01:14 > 1:01:17We'd like a pool, but we don't need a pool.

1:01:17 > 1:01:18We need a pool, we need a pool!

1:01:18 > 1:01:24This house is nearly £90,000 over their budget.

1:01:24 > 1:01:26Everything now depends on the last property.

1:01:28 > 1:01:32Set in the area of Baldivis, it's close to the sea with shops,

1:01:32 > 1:01:33cafes and parks nearby.

1:01:33 > 1:01:35However, it is 30 miles from Perth

1:01:35 > 1:01:38meaning a long commute if Kevin was to work there.

1:01:38 > 1:01:42Will this luxury four-bedroom house impress the Gills?

1:01:42 > 1:01:48I prefer this area to the second one. It immediately looks much nicer.

1:01:48 > 1:01:51Hopefully, the inside will also be to Charlotte's liking.

1:01:53 > 1:01:55Mmm...

1:01:55 > 1:01:59- Oh, my word.- Wow, that's a proper cinema room.

1:01:59 > 1:02:01That is amazing.

1:02:01 > 1:02:04Clearly, we can't afford, don't touch anything.

1:02:04 > 1:02:06I think she likes what she sees.

1:02:06 > 1:02:08It's a bit posh.

1:02:08 > 1:02:12- And George has also seen something he likes.- I just saw a pool!

1:02:14 > 1:02:15This is really nice.

1:02:15 > 1:02:17Along with the pool,

1:02:17 > 1:02:20the layout seems to have taken Charlotte's fancy.

1:02:20 > 1:02:23This is a nice size, because you've got the freshness

1:02:23 > 1:02:24but you've not got it too big.

1:02:24 > 1:02:26It doesn't take up the whole garden.

1:02:26 > 1:02:29You've still got greenery in other areas.

1:02:29 > 1:02:31Oh, mum, this is way better than the second house, isn't it?

1:02:31 > 1:02:34It's quieter, isn't it, as well...

1:02:34 > 1:02:35DOG BARKING LOUDLY

1:02:35 > 1:02:37Oops, spoke too soon.

1:02:37 > 1:02:38DOG BARKING LOUDLY

1:02:38 > 1:02:41You've got to be kidding me!

1:02:43 > 1:02:47It was all going so well, but now...

1:02:47 > 1:02:51I'm not sure this is the quiet outdoor lifestyle that we were really thinking of.

1:02:51 > 1:02:54It's a pity because I like the house so far. It's a beautiful house.

1:02:54 > 1:02:57We are, literally...

1:02:57 > 1:02:59you know, overlooking the next place. It's mad.

1:02:59 > 1:03:02Perhaps it's best to get back inside to the peace and quiet.

1:03:02 > 1:03:08- Hopefully, the bedrooms can turn things around.- Oh, this is nice.

1:03:08 > 1:03:12- Wow, look at that. - Oh, Kev, come and look at this.

1:03:12 > 1:03:15It's got two walk-in wardrobes.

1:03:15 > 1:03:18- Me, me!- Yeah! One more would do.

1:03:18 > 1:03:19And you've got some drawers.

1:03:19 > 1:03:22The hers and hers walk-in wardrobes

1:03:22 > 1:03:24may have changed Charlotte's tune

1:03:24 > 1:03:27but will she be impressed by the price?

1:03:27 > 1:03:30They have been wowed by the size and finish of the rooms

1:03:30 > 1:03:33and the pool, but is the price too much to bear?

1:03:33 > 1:03:35Time to open the envelope and find out.

1:03:38 > 1:03:39320.

1:03:41 > 1:03:42320,000?

1:03:42 > 1:03:46I know it's got a pool, but it hasn't got any real land.

1:03:46 > 1:03:48It's got all the bedrooms and everything

1:03:48 > 1:03:51but where are the kids going to go outside to play?

1:03:51 > 1:03:54- There, that's it, there's nowhere else.- No point having the big bedrooms

1:03:54 > 1:03:59- when you can't sleep at night because you've got a massive mortgage.- We wouldn't contemplate

1:03:59 > 1:04:02buying anything anywhere near that value in the UK.

1:04:02 > 1:04:05We wouldn't contemplate buying anywhere like that in Australia either.

1:04:05 > 1:04:10You've got to take into consideration your illness, too. If you have a flare-up one day

1:04:10 > 1:04:12and you want to quickly walk to the shops without driving,

1:04:12 > 1:04:15- you can't do that here.- No, no. - This is a stumbling block.

1:04:15 > 1:04:17I think that's...

1:04:19 > 1:04:23- ..not insurmountable, but it IS a stumbling block.- It is indeed.

1:04:23 > 1:04:27The house impressed everyone but would mean a mortgage

1:04:27 > 1:04:29that Charlotte and Kevin don't want to contemplate.

1:04:30 > 1:04:33Today has been a real eye-opener.

1:04:33 > 1:04:36The first house may have been the cheapest

1:04:36 > 1:04:39but it impressed Kevin and Charlotte the most.

1:04:39 > 1:04:42The second house's pool and garden got the children excited

1:04:42 > 1:04:46until the price brought everyone back down to earth.

1:04:46 > 1:04:49Although the third was luxury living with its cinema room

1:04:49 > 1:04:53and walk-in wardrobes, the neighbourhood was a bit too noisy.

1:04:53 > 1:04:57So, have they been convinced by Australian houses?

1:04:57 > 1:04:58It's time to find out.

1:04:59 > 1:05:03Based on the properties we've seen today, our decision is...

1:05:09 > 1:05:10- Australia!- England.

1:05:10 > 1:05:12England.

1:05:12 > 1:05:14Just to shake things up a bit.

1:05:14 > 1:05:17- Sam's the only one who chose Australia.- You did not!

1:05:17 > 1:05:19LAUGHTER

1:05:19 > 1:05:22I tried to be nice for once and not give you any hassle...

1:05:22 > 1:05:24- Did you really like the houses? - Yeah, I did.

1:05:24 > 1:05:27I do like the one-level bungalow thing.

1:05:27 > 1:05:30I think that's really practical, especially for me.

1:05:30 > 1:05:33I love the size but not the outside. There's not enough room.

1:05:33 > 1:05:37If we're going to pay money, I'd rather we got more in England, something I never thought...

1:05:37 > 1:05:40I can't believe house prices here are so expensive.

1:05:40 > 1:05:42It puts a lot of pressure on you again, you know,

1:05:42 > 1:05:45with only one of us working, it's a huge step,

1:05:45 > 1:05:49and this is what we're trying to obviate coming out here

1:05:49 > 1:05:52to just get away from that in England with the high house prices.

1:05:52 > 1:05:55And, you know, we seem to be stuck in the same rut.

1:05:56 > 1:05:58Very disappointing.

1:05:59 > 1:06:01Charlotte has driven this move

1:06:01 > 1:06:04and has a strong idea of her dream house.

1:06:04 > 1:06:06Unfortunately, she hasn't found it yet.

1:06:11 > 1:06:13The Gills' taste of the local property market

1:06:13 > 1:06:16didn't do enough to swing their vote for Australia

1:06:16 > 1:06:20and finding the home that's right for them could mean a rethink.

1:06:20 > 1:06:24With the trip off to a mixed start, it's all the more important

1:06:24 > 1:06:26that Australia can offer the family

1:06:26 > 1:06:29the kind of lifestyle they want.

1:06:31 > 1:06:33In the UK, Kevin's life in the Navy

1:06:33 > 1:06:38has meant a lot of time away from the home, missing out on the children growing up.

1:06:38 > 1:06:41Now he relishes any chance to spend time with the family

1:06:41 > 1:06:43and hopes Australia could be the answer.

1:06:43 > 1:06:46I'd like to think we can have a similar lifestyle

1:06:46 > 1:06:49just with better weather and more opportunity

1:06:49 > 1:06:51to undertake our hobbies and get out amongst it.

1:06:51 > 1:06:56George, obviously, takes after Kev, he loves watersports.

1:06:56 > 1:07:00I love seeing them together, playing on the beach. I think it's wonderful.

1:07:00 > 1:07:04Today in Perth, they've come for a paddle-boarding lesson.

1:07:04 > 1:07:06The three of us, we'll paddle out on our knees

1:07:06 > 1:07:09heading out that way and when you're both comfortable,

1:07:09 > 1:07:10then we'll stand up.

1:07:13 > 1:07:15While the boys get to mess about on the boards,

1:07:15 > 1:07:18Charlotte and Samantha have a more leisurely day.

1:07:18 > 1:07:20Yay!

1:07:20 > 1:07:23Go on, Georgie. He's going to stand up.

1:07:23 > 1:07:26CHEERING

1:07:26 > 1:07:28He's doing very well, having never done it before.

1:07:28 > 1:07:33Australia is finally starting to live up to Charlotte's memories.

1:07:33 > 1:07:35I remember it being as it is now.

1:07:35 > 1:07:36It's a lot more built-up

1:07:36 > 1:07:42but it's still got the same sort of mentality, in that it's a winter's afternoon here but it's mild,

1:07:42 > 1:07:46you can get out and about, families are having a stroll around, grabbing coffee, spot of lunch.

1:07:46 > 1:07:50I personally would be looking for a life like this that allowed me

1:07:50 > 1:07:53to get outside and feel the sun on my bones because that feels great.

1:07:53 > 1:07:57And Kevin can also see the positive effects on George.

1:07:57 > 1:07:58I think he enjoyed the boarding.

1:07:58 > 1:08:02I think he was surprised how well he did at it.

1:08:02 > 1:08:04Maybe a little bit nervous when we started, wasn't sure,

1:08:04 > 1:08:08but, yeah, really proud of him.

1:08:08 > 1:08:12I've been thinking that Australia's a bit good, actually,

1:08:12 > 1:08:14so it sort of changed my mind.

1:08:14 > 1:08:18However, there's still a big decision facing Samantha,

1:08:18 > 1:08:22whether she gives up her family or gives up her boyfriend.

1:08:22 > 1:08:23Sam is being pulled in the middle.

1:08:23 > 1:08:27She's got to... Either way, she's going to hurt somebody

1:08:27 > 1:08:29but she has to put herself first.

1:08:33 > 1:08:36We've skirted around the subject a few times

1:08:36 > 1:08:40but we haven't talked about it too deeply, because...

1:08:40 > 1:08:43I think we know it's going to end up with both people being upset,

1:08:43 > 1:08:47so we've tried not to. It's there though, it's the big elephant in the room.

1:08:47 > 1:08:51It's difficult to try to keep everyone happy when everyone wants different things.

1:08:51 > 1:08:55And I'm not sure what I want at the moment.

1:08:55 > 1:09:00I couldn't even think seriously about it at the minute actually because...

1:09:00 > 1:09:03I don't think she will. I think she'll come with Mummy.

1:09:03 > 1:09:05Now I'm second, aren't I?

1:09:05 > 1:09:06LAUGHTER

1:09:06 > 1:09:11It's an emotional subject that's also weighing on Kevin's mind.

1:09:11 > 1:09:14If Samantha decided this wasn't for her,

1:09:14 > 1:09:17and she wanted to stay in England,

1:09:17 > 1:09:21I think we'd find it incredibly difficult to leave her.

1:09:21 > 1:09:25We'd be missing a part of us if she wasn't here.

1:09:25 > 1:09:29In that case, we'd seriously have to rethink it.

1:09:29 > 1:09:34I know she's at that age where she's going to fly, and we want to hold onto her for as long as we can.

1:09:36 > 1:09:39So, after a day of sampling the Aussie lifestyle,

1:09:39 > 1:09:40how will they vote?

1:09:42 > 1:09:46Based on our experience today, we've decided to vote for...

1:09:52 > 1:09:54- Australia!- Half.

1:09:56 > 1:09:58Why half and half, darling?

1:09:58 > 1:10:01I prefer the playgrounds in England

1:10:01 > 1:10:04but it's a pity that you don't get to do it all year round.

1:10:04 > 1:10:06I thought he might go for England,

1:10:06 > 1:10:10but I love the fact that he likes he can play outside all year here.

1:10:10 > 1:10:14Sam, I knew she'd love the lifestyle just based on that

1:10:14 > 1:10:18I know we weren't going to get anything else. I knew she'd love the lifestyle

1:10:18 > 1:10:22- and I thought you'd enjoy it, too. - It's fantastic.- I knew I'd like it. - Not really a shocker.

1:10:22 > 1:10:25Nobody's shocked, yay!

1:10:26 > 1:10:30Charlotte's dream of Australia has moved one step closer to reality

1:10:30 > 1:10:33but will it be with all her family?

1:10:39 > 1:10:43Sampling the Aussie lifestyle was a welcome success for everyone,

1:10:43 > 1:10:47even if the playgrounds did leave a little to be desired.

1:10:47 > 1:10:49But the key to making the move could be

1:10:49 > 1:10:54if Oz can offer Sam a better tomorrow as well as today.

1:10:55 > 1:11:00Samantha has recently finished a degree in social science and wants to go into teaching.

1:11:00 > 1:11:04However, in the UK, competition is very high.

1:11:04 > 1:11:05There aren't any vacancies.

1:11:05 > 1:11:09I applied for teaching assistant positions to get experience

1:11:09 > 1:11:13and they just said there's too many people applying for one position.

1:11:13 > 1:11:18I think if there were better prospects of employment over here, it would...

1:11:19 > 1:11:22..slightly change my opinion of moving to Australia.

1:11:22 > 1:11:24I'd have to have a serious talk with Ivan

1:11:24 > 1:11:27because I can't get anything at the moment in the UK

1:11:27 > 1:11:31so it would definitely change things, I think.

1:11:31 > 1:11:35So we've arranged for her to spend a day at Edith Cowan University

1:11:35 > 1:11:39and get the low-down from some trainee teachers.

1:11:39 > 1:11:42If I wanted to go into primary school teaching over here, what would I have to do at university?

1:11:42 > 1:11:46You're probably looking at doing a grad dip, which is a one-year course.

1:11:46 > 1:11:50It'd give you the skills you need to become a teacher in Western Australia.

1:11:50 > 1:11:54What employment base is here? Are there any walls facing it?

1:11:54 > 1:11:58- Getting a job would be so much easier for you.- Everyone that comes out of teaching gets a job.

1:11:58 > 1:12:01Especially in the country, a lot of opportunities.

1:12:01 > 1:12:04You learn much more in the country, it's a different world

1:12:04 > 1:12:08and usually by the beach all the time so your school might be round the corner from the beach

1:12:08 > 1:12:12and the country is a lot more relaxed in that sense

1:12:12 > 1:12:14so you'll find that at lunchtime your school might

1:12:14 > 1:12:17go down to the beach and you might sit on the beach

1:12:17 > 1:12:20watching the kids on the beach so it's completely different than here.

1:12:20 > 1:12:22That's encouraging news,

1:12:22 > 1:12:25however Samantha is also concerned about pay

1:12:25 > 1:12:29as teaching didn't measure up to other job options in the UK.

1:12:29 > 1:12:33I was applying for teaching assistant jobs to try to get experience in the meantime.

1:12:33 > 1:12:38I would have to take about a £6,000 reduction in what I would do

1:12:38 > 1:12:40if I went into an office job or something like that.

1:12:40 > 1:12:43Grad dip next year,

1:12:43 > 1:12:48you're looking at an equivalent salary of £38,000.

1:12:48 > 1:12:49- Oh, my God!- Which... Yeah.

1:12:49 > 1:12:52It's so much salary difference.

1:12:52 > 1:12:55The lifestyle's going to be so much better.

1:12:55 > 1:12:59What I wanted to do in England, it was facing a brick wall,

1:12:59 > 1:13:03trying to get through and it's here there's no wall.

1:13:03 > 1:13:07So, career opportunities in Western Australia sound just like what Sam's looking for.

1:13:07 > 1:13:11However, boyfriend Ivan is on the other side of the world.

1:13:11 > 1:13:14It's confusing. This seems to be the perfect situation in what I want to do

1:13:14 > 1:13:18so I'm not really sure what's going on.

1:13:18 > 1:13:22Ideally I'd just like to move Ivan here and come to this university.

1:13:22 > 1:13:27But I know that nothing pans out the way you want it to.

1:13:31 > 1:13:35Sam's experience may have left her caught in two minds

1:13:35 > 1:13:39but there's even more pressure on Kevin to make the move work.

1:13:39 > 1:13:40As the sole breadwinner,

1:13:40 > 1:13:43he needs Australia to provide enough security and income

1:13:43 > 1:13:45for the whole family.

1:13:49 > 1:13:52In the UK, Kevin works in the Navy as an engineer

1:13:52 > 1:13:55but he's having to retire after 20 years of service.

1:13:55 > 1:13:59With the economic downturn in the UK, work is hard to find

1:13:59 > 1:14:03and he's hoping the situation will be much better Down Under.

1:14:03 > 1:14:06Kevin's engineering background means he has skills

1:14:06 > 1:14:10that are transferable to other industries.

1:14:10 > 1:14:12As mining is booming in Western Australia,

1:14:12 > 1:14:16We've sent him to check out Boddington gold mine near Perth.

1:14:16 > 1:14:20It's a million miles from what he's used to, but it could be an option.

1:14:20 > 1:14:25- It's a huge site.- It is, one of Australia's biggest sites.

1:14:25 > 1:14:30Tom, from the engineering section, is keen to find out if Kevin could fit in with the company.

1:14:30 > 1:14:36- Tell us a bit about your background. - I've been working in the Navy for the past 20 years. Bit of a broad base.

1:14:36 > 1:14:39We've got quite a vast range of machines, a lot of pumping,

1:14:39 > 1:14:43a lot of material movements, conveyors.

1:14:43 > 1:14:46So, there's a lot of work to do around ensuring

1:14:46 > 1:14:51- the equipment's reliable. How does that sound?- It sounds very interesting, actually.

1:14:51 > 1:14:53- Yeah?- Yeah.- Do you want to come for a look around?- Yes, please.

1:14:55 > 1:14:57While Kevin's exploring the mine,

1:14:57 > 1:15:00the rest of the family are checking out Boddington town.

1:15:00 > 1:15:05They know how much is riding on Kevin finding well-paid work.

1:15:05 > 1:15:07You can tell it by his demeanour.

1:15:07 > 1:15:10He is carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.

1:15:10 > 1:15:13He's got two children, a wife that's not well, we're going to lose our home,

1:15:13 > 1:15:15I wouldn't want to be in his position.

1:15:15 > 1:15:18If I was in his position, I would just be crying on the floor.

1:15:18 > 1:15:21I think he's going to have to earn a really good wage

1:15:21 > 1:15:24to even consider any of those properties.

1:15:24 > 1:15:25Even the first one.

1:15:25 > 1:15:28It seems that all of the money we've saved up with the Navy has

1:15:28 > 1:15:32been eaten up by the rising house prices. Doesn't seem to mean anything.

1:15:33 > 1:15:37Well aware of the pressure riding on his shoulders,

1:15:37 > 1:15:40Kevin is quick to get to the big questions.

1:15:40 > 1:15:44- How did you find that?- That was pretty eye-opening. That's huge!

1:15:44 > 1:15:46Based on what we've seen with your resume,

1:15:46 > 1:15:49I would suggest that we would be looking for

1:15:49 > 1:15:51a team leader position for yourself.

1:15:51 > 1:15:55Newmont has a strong focus on developing its people,

1:15:55 > 1:15:59which will enable you to go on and complete your degree, if that's the way you want to go.

1:15:59 > 1:16:03Yeah, definitely further my career. Like you say, I know I'm going to have to start again,

1:16:03 > 1:16:09if there's the opportunity to progress, that would interest me. Are there opportunities?

1:16:09 > 1:16:12Right across the board we're continually trying to find

1:16:12 > 1:16:15quality people to work with our plant.

1:16:15 > 1:16:19That sounds very interesting. Yeah. I think I could do that.

1:16:19 > 1:16:21It's all sounding promising,

1:16:21 > 1:16:24but there is still the most crucial question.

1:16:24 > 1:16:27With my family moving out, the lifestyle's the issue,

1:16:27 > 1:16:29what's the remuneration?

1:16:29 > 1:16:32What sort of pay are we looking at to start with?

1:16:32 > 1:16:35Tradespeople would be coming on board

1:16:35 > 1:16:39- at about 90,000 Australian. - Yeah.- You'd probably be looking at, with your skills,

1:16:39 > 1:16:41- looking in the early hundreds. - Right, OK.

1:16:41 > 1:16:45It's a lot better than I was expecting.

1:16:45 > 1:16:50- Yeah, quite a lot.- That's a starting salary of over £60,000.

1:16:50 > 1:16:54A lot more than Kevin earns in the UK.

1:16:54 > 1:16:57That's all good news if he did get a job like this.

1:16:57 > 1:17:00But it could mean giving up living close to the seaside.

1:17:00 > 1:17:05- So, how will Kevin vote?- Well, today has been a bit of an eye-opener.

1:17:05 > 1:17:08I'm massively impressed with what I have seen today.

1:17:08 > 1:17:15The salary, the opportunities to progress, I'm going to vote for...

1:17:17 > 1:17:20Australia.

1:17:20 > 1:17:23Well, no surprise there, then.

1:17:23 > 1:17:26The salary was massive, almost double what I'm on at the moment,

1:17:26 > 1:17:28and that's just unbelievable.

1:17:28 > 1:17:31I don't think it's quite sunk in.

1:17:31 > 1:17:34When Tom told me, I was trying to be relaxed,

1:17:34 > 1:17:40but I was doing cartwheels inside. It just makes it more realistic.

1:17:40 > 1:17:43To provide for my family to that level is just amazing.

1:17:45 > 1:17:47Undeniably amazing.

1:17:47 > 1:17:49It's been a great day for Kevin,

1:17:49 > 1:17:52and he's keen to share the news with Charlotte.

1:17:52 > 1:17:55- How was the picnic? - Very nice, thank you, darling.

1:17:55 > 1:17:57Got the cafe to do it, very posh. How did it go?

1:17:57 > 1:18:01It's looking very positive.

1:18:01 > 1:18:02I just couldn't believe it,

1:18:02 > 1:18:07they started at 90,000 for the tradesmen, up to 190 for engineers.

1:18:07 > 1:18:09- 190?- For the degree-qualified engineers.

1:18:09 > 1:18:13So, you would start off at the lower end, and work up through the company?

1:18:13 > 1:18:17They were saying there's a possibility of overseeing

1:18:17 > 1:18:20the work teams, and there was the possibility,

1:18:20 > 1:18:23for the right candidate, of sponsorship.

1:18:23 > 1:18:28- Oh, well done.- Cheers, babes. - Did you really like it? - It was all right.- Wow, cool.

1:18:32 > 1:18:35Kevin's news couldn't have gone down much better.

1:18:35 > 1:18:39And although one good day is no guarantee of a future,

1:18:39 > 1:18:42knowing his skills are in demand in Australia

1:18:42 > 1:18:43is a big step towards a move.

1:18:43 > 1:18:48What's needed now is to see how things look in black and white.

1:18:48 > 1:18:51We've prepared a comparison of the Gill's

1:18:51 > 1:18:54day-to-day living costs in Australia.

1:18:54 > 1:18:56How will their figures add up?

1:18:59 > 1:19:02Most foods are more expensive here, without a doubt.

1:19:02 > 1:19:07It's 162 in the UK, difference of 231. So, groceries are double.

1:19:09 > 1:19:15I mean the big thing there is the income. It's massively different.

1:19:15 > 1:19:18- Right, shall we have a look at the mortgage bit now?- Yeah.

1:19:18 > 1:19:21I've been waiting all week but this bit.

1:19:21 > 1:19:26We're looking at a monthly repayment of 1,750, or about £1,100.

1:19:26 > 1:19:31In England we are going to have a big mortgage and a lower wage. That a similar price that you would

1:19:31 > 1:19:36- pay for a mortgage in the UK, but of course your wages are less. - I see what you're getting at now.

1:19:36 > 1:19:41So, are they better off in the UK, or Australia?

1:19:41 > 1:19:49In Australia, we've got 27,924.

1:19:49 > 1:19:56- I think we might be better off going to Australia.- Can't believe that!

1:19:56 > 1:20:01- I don't know, that's shocked me. - An unbelievable amount.

1:20:01 > 1:20:04To consider, that's after you've paid for things,

1:20:04 > 1:20:08even taking into account they are more expensive over here.

1:20:08 > 1:20:11- Yeah, yeah sure.- Bizarre.

1:20:11 > 1:20:12That's a phenomenal result,

1:20:12 > 1:20:15with Kevin's Australian starting salary,

1:20:15 > 1:20:21after all of their outgoings they'd still have around £27,000 a year left over.

1:20:21 > 1:20:25There is an excellent opportunity for me to provide for my family,

1:20:25 > 1:20:28and that gives me a good feeling.

1:20:28 > 1:20:33I wouldn't, you know, I be proud to, that would be amazing.

1:20:35 > 1:20:36Think it's sunk in?

1:20:36 > 1:20:39I'm not 100% sure yet,

1:20:39 > 1:20:42but to have spare each year

1:20:42 > 1:20:47of equal to the jobs that I'm looking at taking.

1:20:47 > 1:20:48Of course, yeah.

1:20:48 > 1:20:51In England that the sort of wage I'm looking at taking,

1:20:51 > 1:20:53and that's going to be the spare capacity.

1:20:53 > 1:20:59- Yeah, I'm blown away.- Are you glad you went through this now?- I am.

1:20:59 > 1:21:02There's been trepidation throughout,

1:21:02 > 1:21:05but I'm glad we're here at this point.

1:21:05 > 1:21:06Yeah, we have been through the mill.

1:21:06 > 1:21:11Just a specific time in my life where everything was going wrong,

1:21:11 > 1:21:12to end up here is...

1:21:14 > 1:21:18- Sorted. Right.- Yeah.

1:21:22 > 1:21:25It's a massive relief for Kevin and Charlotte.

1:21:25 > 1:21:28After all of their worries about their future

1:21:28 > 1:21:30when Kevin leaves the Navy, this is great news.

1:21:30 > 1:21:33Based on the financial aspects we have looked at today,

1:21:33 > 1:21:35our decision is...

1:21:37 > 1:21:39(BOTH) Australia!

1:21:44 > 1:21:48The possibility of such a large boost to their income

1:21:48 > 1:21:51is fantastic news for the Gills.

1:21:51 > 1:21:55But moving so far away from home can mean facing another big cost -

1:21:55 > 1:21:59the impact of leaving behind the people that you love.

1:22:01 > 1:22:04We've prepared some messages from family and friends back in the UK.

1:22:04 > 1:22:07As it can be quite emotional,

1:22:07 > 1:22:11Kevin, Charlotte, and Sam have decided to watch it without George.

1:22:12 > 1:22:15Hey, Kevin, hey, guys, I hope you are enjoying yourselves down there.

1:22:15 > 1:22:20- They're a lovely family, without realising it.- They're very nice.

1:22:20 > 1:22:25- Aren't they?- As a family, I find them very, very close.

1:22:25 > 1:22:28They've settled here very well, very well.

1:22:30 > 1:22:35I miss his stories. He's got a story for everything that happens.

1:22:35 > 1:22:37He's got a lot of experience in the Navy,

1:22:37 > 1:22:40and he likes sharing his experiences with us.

1:22:40 > 1:22:43He always brightens the day up, he always pops in.

1:22:43 > 1:22:45Sometimes it's the same story!

1:22:45 > 1:22:50He's always nice to listen to.

1:22:51 > 1:22:54I think it's a really good opportunity for them

1:22:54 > 1:23:00to explore life in Australia, and if she's happy living there,

1:23:00 > 1:23:04I'd have to kind of have a think about what I want to do.

1:23:06 > 1:23:08HE SIGHS

1:23:08 > 1:23:12My brother's children, what can I say, really? I love them all.

1:23:12 > 1:23:16I shall miss Charlotte very much.

1:23:16 > 1:23:22I'm going to be a bit sad when she goes.

1:23:23 > 1:23:27If she did decide to leave permanently, I wish them the best.

1:23:27 > 1:23:29- I'd be sad.- We would be, wouldn't we?

1:23:29 > 1:23:31I'll be so sad, I don't want them to go.

1:23:34 > 1:23:38Just always knowing, I'm a little bit upset, oh, Josh, don't cry.

1:23:40 > 1:23:43I just always haven't the right words to say.

1:23:45 > 1:23:48I just hope you're getting along very well out there.

1:23:49 > 1:23:52Have a great time. Missing you lots.

1:23:55 > 1:23:58I hope everything is going well out there,

1:23:58 > 1:24:00you're not missing me too much,

1:24:00 > 1:24:02and I do miss you loads, and I can't wait to see you

1:24:02 > 1:24:05next week, well hopefully, when you come back.

1:24:07 > 1:24:12And we'll have to have a good chat, whatever happens, it'll work out.

1:24:14 > 1:24:18Just don't worry about it, just enjoy your time out there.

1:24:19 > 1:24:23We'll have to see what happens. Caru chi. Ta-ra.

1:24:27 > 1:24:32- Oh, wow. Are you all right, baby? - Yeah. Quite good.

1:24:35 > 1:24:37- Was it nice seeing Ivan on there? - Yeah.

1:24:37 > 1:24:42- I wasn't going to cry. - You did really well.- Yeah.

1:24:42 > 1:24:44He did sound very supportive, I thought.

1:24:44 > 1:24:49I thought he sounded positive, actually.

1:24:49 > 1:24:51Just shows that I couldn't leave him in the UK.

1:24:51 > 1:24:55- Did he say I love you at the end of it, did he?- Yeah, caru chi.

1:24:59 > 1:25:02Seeing me messages from home has shown the Gills

1:25:02 > 1:25:04what they stand to lose by leaving.

1:25:04 > 1:25:08A life in Australia would mean big sacrifices.

1:25:08 > 1:25:11So, is the pain of moving really worth it?

1:25:11 > 1:25:14It's time for the Gills to make their final decision.

1:25:14 > 1:25:17As their week in Australia draws to an end,

1:25:17 > 1:25:20Charlotte, Kevin and Samantha have a chance

1:25:20 > 1:25:23to think over just how much is at stake.

1:25:23 > 1:25:26This could possibly be Charlotte's last chance to get here,

1:25:26 > 1:25:29so we need to make a decision.

1:25:29 > 1:25:31I'm glad George seems so happy here.

1:25:31 > 1:25:34Kevin seems really pleased his work prospects,

1:25:34 > 1:25:35and also with the way of life.

1:25:35 > 1:25:39Samantha seems to love it, but obviously her heart is being torn in two, because she's got

1:25:39 > 1:25:43a boyfriend back in the UK who she wants to be with as well.

1:25:43 > 1:25:44It just seems amazing.

1:25:44 > 1:25:47Like, the weather, the opportunities for employment, everything,

1:25:47 > 1:25:49the lifestyle, it's just really amazing.

1:25:49 > 1:25:54My gut instinct tells me that she's not going to vote for Australia.

1:25:54 > 1:25:58I think Ivan makes Samantha happy, and as any dad will attest,

1:25:58 > 1:26:03someone who makes their daughter happy is worth £1 million.

1:26:04 > 1:26:08It's been an eventful week, and one that has brought home

1:26:08 > 1:26:12the emotional issues that face every parent.

1:26:12 > 1:26:15One of the things that has come to a head during this week over here

1:26:15 > 1:26:17is that our daughter has grown up,

1:26:17 > 1:26:22and potentially, we're going to lose her.

1:26:22 > 1:26:27I am 22, and I am moving on, but I don't really want to leave them behind.

1:26:27 > 1:26:32It isn't like it's just up the road, up north, or something like that.

1:26:32 > 1:26:36It's however many miles away. It's on the other side of the world.

1:26:36 > 1:26:41At the end of the day, it's what's best the majority, not the minority.

1:26:41 > 1:26:43I want them to be happy, really.

1:26:43 > 1:26:46It's down to the final vote.

1:26:46 > 1:26:49Could Charlotte and Kevin move if Samantha doesn't,

1:26:49 > 1:26:53or have they all been tempted by life Down Under?

1:26:53 > 1:26:54Are you ready, guys?

1:26:57 > 1:27:00- Australia!- Half and half!

1:27:02 > 1:27:08- You didn't say England! - I said half and half.- That's really good.- That's really good.

1:27:08 > 1:27:13- Come here, Son.- Did you say that, too, baby?- I'd miss my friends in England.

1:27:16 > 1:27:22I chose half-and-half, because it's really good in Australia,

1:27:22 > 1:27:24but my friends matter more.

1:27:26 > 1:27:30The reason why I voted half-and-half is because,

1:27:30 > 1:27:32although the lifestyle here is amazing,

1:27:32 > 1:27:34it's a lot of work opportunities for you,

1:27:34 > 1:27:37was just because of the people, and that's the only reason

1:27:37 > 1:27:39why I wouldn't move over.

1:27:39 > 1:27:42It's because of the lifestyle, the work opportunities,

1:27:42 > 1:27:46and also because I think it's a great family atmosphere.

1:27:46 > 1:27:50The Gills have come a long way during their week in Australia,

1:27:50 > 1:27:54but emotional ties to the UK mean the decision isn't a clear one.

1:27:57 > 1:28:01With such a tough choice to make, the Gills may need

1:28:01 > 1:28:03just that little bit more time

1:28:03 > 1:28:06before they decide upon a future that's right for them.

1:28:06 > 1:28:10Whatever it may be, we wish them all the very best with it.
