0:00:02 > 0:00:04Deciding to move your family halfway around the world

0:00:04 > 0:00:06isn't just about where you want to live.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09It's also about how you want to live.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12And facing that choice can be a huge strain,

0:00:12 > 0:00:15especially if your dreams are very different.

0:00:15 > 0:00:20Stephen Bishop is desperate for a new life in Australia.

0:00:20 > 0:00:24It's made her realise just how unhappy I am.

0:00:24 > 0:00:29But his wife Elissa can't bear the idea of abandoning her home and business.

0:00:29 > 0:00:35I'll lose everything I've worked for since 14-years-old.

0:00:35 > 0:00:39And Australia will throw up some big disappointments.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42I'm completely gutted, hugely disappointed.

0:00:42 > 0:00:44Do you not get this?

0:00:44 > 0:00:46Another blow to MY dream, certainly.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14Australia is the most popular country for Brits moving abroad.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17They may be tempted by its golden beaches,

0:01:17 > 0:01:20sunny climate and famous relaxed lifestyle.

0:01:20 > 0:01:24But leaving behind everything and everyone you know

0:01:24 > 0:01:29can turn a simple dream into the hardest challenge of your life.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33Over the next seven days, the Bishops will get to experience

0:01:33 > 0:01:35the reality of living in Australia.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38At the end of it they'll face a life-changing decision -

0:01:38 > 0:01:42whether to stay in the UK, or to make the move for good.

0:01:46 > 0:01:51After a truly mammoth journey involving four flights,

0:01:51 > 0:01:54the Bishops are finally in Australia.

0:01:54 > 0:01:56It's three days' travelling to get here.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59- But it's going to be worth it, right?- Yeah.

0:01:59 > 0:02:00I hope.

0:02:00 > 0:02:05This is the make or break, biggest decision of our lives.

0:02:05 > 0:02:09Life-changing stuff. Be a terrible shame to get it all wrong.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16In the UK, the Bishops live on the windswept

0:02:16 > 0:02:19Shetland Isles, far off the coast of Scotland.

0:02:20 > 0:02:25The family are Elissa, aged 32, hubby Stephen,

0:02:25 > 0:02:27who's 28, and three-year-old daughter Maddy.

0:02:27 > 0:02:31Stephen works as a maintenance engineer at an oil terminal

0:02:31 > 0:02:34and Elissa owns a livery business.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38After a long honeymoon to Australia in 2005,

0:02:38 > 0:02:42Stephen really fell for the possibility of a new life down under.

0:02:42 > 0:02:47When I got back I had the feeling it might have been a mistake to come back,

0:02:47 > 0:02:50and can't seem to shake that feeling.

0:02:50 > 0:02:56He would say, "Elissa, I can't get Australia out of my head.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59"I really want to go, I want to make a go of it."

0:02:59 > 0:03:02Due to a decline in the Shetland fishing industry,

0:03:02 > 0:03:04Stephen works at an oil terminal.

0:03:04 > 0:03:09He hopes Australia could be the chance to get back to the job he loves.

0:03:09 > 0:03:11I'm a qualified marine engineer,

0:03:11 > 0:03:14and I'd like to try and get my skills back.

0:03:14 > 0:03:18I feel I've lost a lot of my skills working at the oil terminal.

0:03:20 > 0:03:24Also, Stephen longs for a more outdoor lifestyle with his family -

0:03:24 > 0:03:29something he can't really enjoy in the Shetlands.

0:03:29 > 0:03:31The weather here in Shetland,

0:03:31 > 0:03:34it really gets me down and makes me very miserable.

0:03:34 > 0:03:36It can often be a very long winter -

0:03:36 > 0:03:39dark and windy,

0:03:39 > 0:03:44very wet and pretty cold most of the time.

0:03:45 > 0:03:49It's like that for five months, six months in a year.

0:03:54 > 0:03:57His Australian-born wife Elissa moved to Shetland from Melbourne

0:03:57 > 0:03:59when she was eight.

0:03:59 > 0:04:04Unfortunately for Stephen, she feels very differently about the Shetlands.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07I love my life here. I have my dream,

0:04:07 > 0:04:10I have everything around me that I could ever have dreamt of.

0:04:10 > 0:04:13Shetland is a place

0:04:13 > 0:04:18that you'll never find anywhere else. It's amazing.

0:04:18 > 0:04:22You have one end of Shetland that's flat and green,

0:04:22 > 0:04:26and the other end is massive cliffs and hills,

0:04:26 > 0:04:28and you can see for miles.

0:04:28 > 0:04:31Shetland is freedom.

0:04:31 > 0:04:331, 2, 3...

0:04:33 > 0:04:35go!

0:04:35 > 0:04:38Elissa has built up her livery business from scratch,

0:04:38 > 0:04:42and the idea of giving it up seems unthinkable.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45It's taken me so long to build up this business

0:04:45 > 0:04:47and so long to have my dream.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49I've had the dream of this since I was little,

0:04:49 > 0:04:55and to sell this up would completely break my heart.

0:04:55 > 0:05:00There's no two ways about that at all.

0:05:00 > 0:05:05I love this place to pieces and I can't imagine being without it.

0:05:05 > 0:05:09And there's another problem which is even harder to contemplate...

0:05:09 > 0:05:11leaving her mum behind.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14We talk nearly every day on the phone. I love her to pieces.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16She's all I have. I don't have a granny and grandad.

0:05:16 > 0:05:19You know, we don't have a big family network

0:05:19 > 0:05:22on my side. I only have my mum and my stepdad,

0:05:22 > 0:05:27so it really almost scares me

0:05:27 > 0:05:30to think that I wouldn't have her there.

0:05:31 > 0:05:35However, Stephen's desire for a new life down under has them divided.

0:05:36 > 0:05:40It's on our minds the whole time.

0:05:40 > 0:05:41We argue about it.

0:05:41 > 0:05:45It's made her realise, I think, that...

0:05:45 > 0:05:48just how unhappy I am,

0:05:48 > 0:05:53and that there is potential for both

0:05:53 > 0:05:57to have what we want out in Australia.

0:05:57 > 0:05:59He really wants to go out there.

0:05:59 > 0:06:00He wants to further his career.

0:06:00 > 0:06:05He wants to have more family time, do more outdoor things,

0:06:05 > 0:06:08let Maddy experience the world more,

0:06:08 > 0:06:13which is all amazing things, but,

0:06:13 > 0:06:16is he still in holiday mode from our honeymoon,

0:06:16 > 0:06:19or is he really thinking that would be our lives?

0:06:19 > 0:06:23They've decided to give Australia a try.

0:06:23 > 0:06:26They have a week to decide where their future lies.

0:06:26 > 0:06:30It's a decision that could leave one of them heartbroken.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33You have to come together to make each other happy, don't you?

0:06:33 > 0:06:38One of us is going to have to give up our dream.

0:06:40 > 0:06:41It's a big, big problem.

0:06:46 > 0:06:49It's a huge dilemma.

0:06:49 > 0:06:51Stephen and Elissa both want

0:06:51 > 0:06:53the best possible future for their family.

0:06:53 > 0:06:56They simply can't agree where it should be.

0:06:56 > 0:07:00With so much riding on their choice, it's a big week ahead.

0:07:01 > 0:07:04Home for the week is the Queensland countryside.

0:07:04 > 0:07:07It should offer plenty of open spaces,

0:07:07 > 0:07:10with Brisbane and beaches nearby for the family to enjoy

0:07:10 > 0:07:13Australian living. But will the reality measure up?

0:07:14 > 0:07:18It's a 50-mile drive to the heart of the Tamborine Mountain area,

0:07:18 > 0:07:20to their base for the week.

0:07:20 > 0:07:22Like their Shetland home,

0:07:22 > 0:07:24it's quiet and rural,

0:07:24 > 0:07:26but with one big difference.

0:07:26 > 0:07:29- The trees!- Look!

0:07:29 > 0:07:30Wowee.

0:07:32 > 0:07:35It's got more trees than back home, doesn't it, Maddy?

0:07:35 > 0:07:36There's no trees back home.

0:07:36 > 0:07:39If they're impressed by the trees,

0:07:39 > 0:07:41hopefully they'll also be happy with the property.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44It's a two-bedroom country style cottage.

0:07:44 > 0:07:46Oh, woodburner.

0:07:46 > 0:07:48- It's nice.- I like that.

0:07:49 > 0:07:51Barbecue area.

0:07:51 > 0:07:54- You like having barbecue, don't you? - Mm-hm.

0:07:56 > 0:08:00- This is so not like our house back home, is it?- Mm-hm.

0:08:00 > 0:08:03It's all different! Do you like it, though?

0:08:03 > 0:08:04Look at...down there.

0:08:06 > 0:08:09What's he saying? Shall we see how close we can get?

0:08:09 > 0:08:10BIRD SQUAWKS

0:08:10 > 0:08:13Oh! Where's he gone?

0:08:13 > 0:08:17The travelling and excitement have caught up with Maddy.

0:08:17 > 0:08:19So while she takes a nap,

0:08:19 > 0:08:23Stephen and Elissa get to reflect on the challenging days ahead.

0:08:23 > 0:08:28I'm hoping this week can answer a lot of questions I've got.

0:08:28 > 0:08:30Whether this is the right move.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32You might not even like it by the end of the week.

0:08:32 > 0:08:35I had this vision in my head for that long.

0:08:35 > 0:08:39It might not be what I've been planning it to be.

0:08:41 > 0:08:43I hope that's not true.

0:08:44 > 0:08:47It's going to be seven tough days, and the enormity of

0:08:47 > 0:08:50what they are taking on is dawning on Elissa.

0:08:50 > 0:08:54I think the decision has to be made with a 100%,

0:08:54 > 0:08:59so this week really is a massive, massive thing

0:08:59 > 0:09:01and we really have to make a lot of tough decisions.

0:09:01 > 0:09:05- Some I don't think we're even ready for.- Mmm.

0:09:05 > 0:09:08Now we're here, it's really daunting.

0:09:13 > 0:09:17For most families moving down under, finding the right house

0:09:17 > 0:09:20in the right area is no easy matter,

0:09:20 > 0:09:22but for the Bishops, finding a property

0:09:22 > 0:09:26that meets their unique requirements could be quite a challenge.

0:09:26 > 0:09:31Back in the UK, the Bishops live in a two-bedroom cottage

0:09:31 > 0:09:35in Whiteness on the Shetlands. It also has over 50 acres of land

0:09:35 > 0:09:38that Elissa uses for her horse-riding business.

0:09:38 > 0:09:40When it comes to their ideal house in Australia,

0:09:40 > 0:09:43there is a slight difference in what each of them wants.

0:09:43 > 0:09:49Somewhere I can see the sea. That's a big thing for me.

0:09:49 > 0:09:51Seeing the sea doesn't bother me.

0:09:51 > 0:09:53I almost have an image of not seeing it.

0:09:53 > 0:09:58For me, the land isn't such a big issue.

0:09:58 > 0:10:04My ideal would be about 50 acres of land.

0:10:04 > 0:10:08Cos really, what we have here is absolutely perfect for horses.

0:10:08 > 0:10:10You have to find that out there.

0:10:13 > 0:10:16- It's at the top of the list.- Awww.

0:10:18 > 0:10:19Well, maybe second from the top.

0:10:22 > 0:10:24I can see this is not going to be easy.

0:10:24 > 0:10:27Especially as it's Stephen who's driving this move.

0:10:27 > 0:10:31They bought their house for £255,000.

0:10:31 > 0:10:33If they can get a good price for it,

0:10:33 > 0:10:35and Elissa's livery business,

0:10:35 > 0:10:38they could have a budget of around 400,000.

0:10:42 > 0:10:45However, house prices in Australia have risen,

0:10:45 > 0:10:49while those in the UK have dropped, so can they afford an ideal home?

0:10:49 > 0:10:52Today, we're giving them a taste

0:10:52 > 0:10:54of Queensland's rural property market.

0:10:54 > 0:10:58We'll show them three options that should give them an idea

0:10:58 > 0:11:00of what they want and what they can afford.

0:11:00 > 0:11:02After they've seen each house,

0:11:02 > 0:11:05we'll reveal to the Bishops how much they cost.

0:11:07 > 0:11:11Their search starts in the Guanaba area.

0:11:11 > 0:11:13The open countryside and forests are popular

0:11:13 > 0:11:16with horse riders, and being only

0:11:16 > 0:11:1915 minutes' drive from the Gold Coast Marina,

0:11:19 > 0:11:22will also be great for Stephen's work.

0:11:22 > 0:11:24First is a large three-bedroom house

0:11:24 > 0:11:26with three acres of garden

0:11:26 > 0:11:28and outbuildings which should suit everyone.

0:11:28 > 0:11:30Oh, wow.

0:11:30 > 0:11:32This is nice.

0:11:34 > 0:11:35Oh, look at the big stove.

0:11:35 > 0:11:38And look at where the wine goes!

0:11:38 > 0:11:41This is my kind of place.

0:11:41 > 0:11:42That is a great start.

0:11:42 > 0:11:46This'll just be the living area here, eh?

0:11:46 > 0:11:49Oh, look. This could be Maddy's bedroom.

0:11:49 > 0:11:51Decent-sized room, though.

0:11:51 > 0:11:52It is, yeah.

0:11:52 > 0:11:56- This is nice. It feels really cool in here, which is good.- Mm-hm.

0:11:56 > 0:11:59- The whole house feels like that. - Yeah.

0:11:59 > 0:12:00En suite.

0:12:00 > 0:12:03- Not got an en suite back home, eh?- No.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06We wanted one.

0:12:06 > 0:12:08I like it.

0:12:08 > 0:12:11Elissa's positivity is great news for Stephen's dream.

0:12:11 > 0:12:14Will she be so upbeat about the outside, though?

0:12:14 > 0:12:17I could imagine sitting out here, eh? Glass of wine...

0:12:17 > 0:12:19- Big garden.- It is a big garden.

0:12:21 > 0:12:22Very private here.

0:12:22 > 0:12:24I think the house is pretty much perfect

0:12:24 > 0:12:27- for us living. - Big outdoor living area.

0:12:27 > 0:12:30- Yeah.- It's nice, it's good.

0:12:30 > 0:12:33But there's not enough usable land for the horses.

0:12:33 > 0:12:36Cos I have 52 acres of usable land back home.

0:12:36 > 0:12:40Maybe the price will make up for the lack of land.

0:12:40 > 0:12:44The house certainly impressed both Elissa and Stephen.

0:12:44 > 0:12:48However, the shortage of grazing has dampened Elissa's enthusiasm.

0:12:48 > 0:12:51Time to find out the price.

0:12:51 > 0:12:52Go on, then.

0:12:52 > 0:12:54Oh!

0:12:55 > 0:12:59Holy moly. I thought that was Australian dollars.

0:12:59 > 0:13:02- That's totally out of our price range.- It is a bit, yeah.

0:13:02 > 0:13:07- And it's not got the land that we need.- No. It's a shame.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10That is a shock, considering we're quite far out.

0:13:10 > 0:13:12I didn't expect it to be as much as that.

0:13:12 > 0:13:15Set our sights a bit lower, perhaps.

0:13:15 > 0:13:17There's no land for the horses!

0:13:17 > 0:13:22You can't get any lower than... isn't the land.

0:13:22 > 0:13:25I ain't going to settle for keeping a goat.

0:13:25 > 0:13:29This house is more than £30,000 over their budget.

0:13:29 > 0:13:32If everything hinges on Elissa's passion for horses,

0:13:32 > 0:13:35could they struggle to find a house with enough land?

0:13:37 > 0:13:40The second house is in the Piggabeen area,

0:13:40 > 0:13:43a short drive from some of the region's best beaches.

0:13:43 > 0:13:45Set in open countryside,

0:13:45 > 0:13:48it should have something for both Stephen and Elissa.

0:13:48 > 0:13:53This four bedroom house has lots of land, but something else has caught Elissa's eye.

0:13:53 > 0:13:55Going to have a look at the stables?

0:13:55 > 0:13:58Priorities first.

0:13:58 > 0:14:02It's now a workshop, but it could be converted back, no problem.

0:14:02 > 0:14:04It's more...

0:14:04 > 0:14:05I don't know.

0:14:05 > 0:14:08The sun's going on my face. I want this down.

0:14:08 > 0:14:11The sun's in your face? Well, welcome to Australia!

0:14:11 > 0:14:14You're not used to it, eh?

0:14:14 > 0:14:17Right, shall we go up and have a look at the house, then?

0:14:17 > 0:14:18Ah yes, the house.

0:14:18 > 0:14:21Hopefully this will be a useful addition to the stables.

0:14:25 > 0:14:26Another woodburning stove.

0:14:26 > 0:14:30I'm liking this house better. I've got a better feel about it.

0:14:30 > 0:14:31It's bigger.

0:14:31 > 0:14:33I like the kitchen.

0:14:33 > 0:14:35The living area's a hit.

0:14:35 > 0:14:37Can the bedroom keep up with their expectations?

0:14:37 > 0:14:39Bedroom. Nice size.

0:14:40 > 0:14:42This is like our one back home, eh?

0:14:42 > 0:14:44- Yeah, this is a better size. - En suite.

0:14:46 > 0:14:47This is nice.

0:14:47 > 0:14:49It's all going down very well so far.

0:14:49 > 0:14:51Outside there's another feature

0:14:51 > 0:14:53that could seal the deal.

0:14:53 > 0:14:55- Look at that.- Put your feet in.

0:14:55 > 0:14:57Ooh, it's cold!

0:14:57 > 0:15:00- Is it cold?- Yeah.

0:15:00 > 0:15:02Put your feet back in.

0:15:02 > 0:15:05- Is that nice?- Ooh!

0:15:05 > 0:15:08- Would you like to have your own swimming pool in the garden?- Yeah.

0:15:08 > 0:15:12Cos you love swimming. You could come out here every day and swim.

0:15:14 > 0:15:15I like it.

0:15:15 > 0:15:17Way better than the other one.

0:15:17 > 0:15:21I like the other house better, I think, but I like

0:15:21 > 0:15:23this location a bit more.

0:15:23 > 0:15:26And to top it all off, there's five acres of land.

0:15:26 > 0:15:28But will it be enough for her needs?

0:15:28 > 0:15:30Could keep your ponies up here.

0:15:30 > 0:15:32We'd easy keep two horses on this.

0:15:32 > 0:15:35That would do.

0:15:35 > 0:15:40You could flatten this area out and put in your own sand arena here.

0:15:40 > 0:15:41This could be the riding area.

0:15:41 > 0:15:45Elissa's certainly racing ahead with what she could do here,

0:15:45 > 0:15:47but she doesn't know the price.

0:15:47 > 0:15:51Will this much land and a pool put it beyond their budget

0:15:51 > 0:15:54or is Stephen's dream within their reach?

0:15:54 > 0:15:55What does this house cost?

0:15:57 > 0:16:00- Are you going to do the honours? - Let's have a look.

0:16:03 > 0:16:05Oh, OK.

0:16:05 > 0:16:06Not too bad.

0:16:07 > 0:16:10I thought, yeah, it's cheaper than the other one.

0:16:10 > 0:16:14That's just slightly over their budget of £400,000.

0:16:15 > 0:16:19- Do you think it's doable?- Could be.

0:16:19 > 0:16:21I'm just not so sure on the actual house itself,

0:16:21 > 0:16:24unfortunately.

0:16:24 > 0:16:27We just have such different tastes.

0:16:27 > 0:16:29What's Stephen playing at?

0:16:29 > 0:16:32If he wants to convince Elissa their future lies in Australia,

0:16:32 > 0:16:37can he really afford to be so picky about a house that she would be happy with?

0:16:37 > 0:16:40Everything rests on property three.

0:16:42 > 0:16:46It's in an area of Wongawallan, between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

0:16:46 > 0:16:48It's an up-and-coming part of Queensland,

0:16:48 > 0:16:52meaning they should be able to get a little bit more for their money here.

0:16:52 > 0:16:56It's a new Queenslander-style house with four bedrooms

0:16:56 > 0:16:59and there's a welcome sight waiting for the family.

0:16:59 > 0:17:00Come on, then.

0:17:01 > 0:17:03Hello!

0:17:05 > 0:17:09- There you go. - Is it good to see a horse again?

0:17:09 > 0:17:10You miss them.

0:17:10 > 0:17:14That means there should be enough land for Elissa to keep horses.

0:17:14 > 0:17:16Can the house convince as well?

0:17:21 > 0:17:22This is nice.

0:17:22 > 0:17:24Really quite new, isn't it?

0:17:24 > 0:17:27Nice and light and airy in here too.

0:17:27 > 0:17:29Elissa seems to feel at home,

0:17:29 > 0:17:34and downstairs there's a room she likes even more.

0:17:34 > 0:17:37Look! This is nice.

0:17:37 > 0:17:41It's quite suited for a granny, eh?

0:17:41 > 0:17:44Although Stephen has his own ideas.

0:17:44 > 0:17:46Maybe even Dad's TV room! What do you think?

0:17:48 > 0:17:53With time to reflect, Elissa and Stephen are both in agreement.

0:17:54 > 0:17:57It is stunning. Out of the three,

0:17:57 > 0:17:59this house, I think, is my favourite.

0:17:59 > 0:18:02It's only three acres but... fit a couple of horses on that.

0:18:02 > 0:18:04It's a lovely spot for sure.

0:18:04 > 0:18:07It's beautiful. It's the first house that

0:18:07 > 0:18:10- we've actually agreed on, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:18:10 > 0:18:14But what about the price? Can they afford it,

0:18:14 > 0:18:16or will this house have to stay a dream home?

0:18:20 > 0:18:22(SHE LAUGHS) It's the cheapest.

0:18:22 > 0:18:25£350,000. That's good. 575.

0:18:25 > 0:18:28- Surprising.- I thought it'd be a lot more.- I did.

0:18:28 > 0:18:30I'm happy with that.

0:18:31 > 0:18:35- Nice area, nice house.- Mm-hm. - Terrific views.

0:18:35 > 0:18:37Amazing views.

0:18:37 > 0:18:41Horses right out there. What do you think, Maddy? Do you like it?

0:18:42 > 0:18:44- No-o-o.- No?

0:18:44 > 0:18:46Oh, dear.

0:18:46 > 0:18:48At least Mum and Dad agree on the property.

0:18:48 > 0:18:50But there's still some uncertainty.

0:18:50 > 0:18:54- I'd say it was achievable at this price.- It would depend.

0:18:54 > 0:18:57- Depends on how much our house is valued at back home.- Yeah.

0:18:57 > 0:19:01But... I mean...

0:19:03 > 0:19:07- I'm hoping not to get far off that back home, eh?- Yeah.

0:19:07 > 0:19:09So affording a house they'd be happy with

0:19:09 > 0:19:13rests on what they can get for their UK home.

0:19:13 > 0:19:15It's been an eye-opening day.

0:19:15 > 0:19:18The first house didn't have the land that Elissa wants

0:19:18 > 0:19:21and the price was way out of range.

0:19:21 > 0:19:25The second seemed to have it all with its pool and grounds,

0:19:25 > 0:19:26but failed to excite Stephen.

0:19:26 > 0:19:28The final house hit the spot

0:19:28 > 0:19:31with both, with enough space for all their needs

0:19:31 > 0:19:33and just within their budget.

0:19:34 > 0:19:35So how will they vote?

0:19:37 > 0:19:38OK.

0:19:38 > 0:19:40Well, today's been an eventful day.

0:19:40 > 0:19:43Based on the properties we've seen, we're going to vote.

0:19:45 > 0:19:46UK.

0:19:46 > 0:19:48Australia.

0:19:49 > 0:19:51That is a surprise.

0:19:51 > 0:19:54Elissa seemed so positive about the houses she saw.

0:19:54 > 0:19:57Why did she vote for the UK?

0:19:57 > 0:20:00I do love that last property, don't get me wrong.

0:20:00 > 0:20:03If we were definitely moving to Australia, I'd go for that one.

0:20:03 > 0:20:06But we've got so much more back home for our money.

0:20:06 > 0:20:07So much land.

0:20:07 > 0:20:10The arena, stables, sheds.

0:20:10 > 0:20:16When I'm weighing up the two, it's definitely the UK for me. Home.

0:20:16 > 0:20:18That's a huge setback for Stephen.

0:20:18 > 0:20:21If Elissa can't think of giving up her UK home,

0:20:21 > 0:20:24even for an ideal property,

0:20:24 > 0:20:28is there any way Stephen can convince her to move to Australia?

0:20:32 > 0:20:35It's a mixed start for the Bishops.

0:20:35 > 0:20:38Property in Oz did interest Elissa,

0:20:38 > 0:20:42but also reminded her what she'd be giving up at home.

0:20:42 > 0:20:45For Stephen, though, the real gain down under could be

0:20:45 > 0:20:47sharing a better family lifestyle.

0:20:47 > 0:20:51Today they're on a trip to Mount Tamborine National Park.

0:20:51 > 0:20:55Set in 100 square kilometres of stunning countryside,

0:20:55 > 0:20:58it should give them a rare chance to spend a day together,

0:20:58 > 0:21:00and to get some thinking time.

0:21:02 > 0:21:03See down there? Look.

0:21:03 > 0:21:05Really high!

0:21:05 > 0:21:06Really high.

0:21:06 > 0:21:08It's nice to get out

0:21:08 > 0:21:11into the rainforest with Maddy and have a look around.

0:21:11 > 0:21:14I can't even remember when the last time was

0:21:14 > 0:21:16we spent a day out as a family together.

0:21:16 > 0:21:17This is really nice.

0:21:17 > 0:21:20Something that doesn't happen very often back home.

0:21:20 > 0:21:22- Go!- That way?

0:21:22 > 0:21:24- Yeah.- OK, let's go.

0:21:24 > 0:21:28This rare trip out as a family has certainly got someone excited.

0:21:28 > 0:21:30She's loving it.

0:21:30 > 0:21:32She's off.

0:21:32 > 0:21:33Wait for us, Maddy!

0:21:35 > 0:21:36You wait there, you.

0:21:36 > 0:21:38(ELISSA LAUGHS)

0:21:38 > 0:21:40Don't chase her! She'll be off.

0:21:40 > 0:21:43And Stephen is remembering why he wants to move down under.

0:21:43 > 0:21:46I just love everything about Australia.

0:21:46 > 0:21:49I feel really at home here. Love the sunshine.

0:21:49 > 0:21:53Can't really describe how it makes me feel, being out here.

0:21:53 > 0:21:56It almost makes me feel more alive.

0:21:56 > 0:21:59I'm absolutely in love with the place.

0:21:59 > 0:22:02Even Elissa can see the appeal too.

0:22:02 > 0:22:05It is really lovely. The weather's on our side and

0:22:05 > 0:22:08you don't get anything like this back home.

0:22:08 > 0:22:12After a gentle stroll, it's time for something more thrilling.

0:22:14 > 0:22:19Oh, look, the trees are going to be over the top of us here.

0:22:19 > 0:22:20Look up.

0:22:22 > 0:22:25- Go on.- Are you frightened?

0:22:25 > 0:22:27Is it kind of scary? You want to hold Dad's hand?

0:22:27 > 0:22:29Whoa.

0:22:29 > 0:22:31Look how high up we are.

0:22:31 > 0:22:33- (MADDY GASPS) - Holy moly!

0:22:33 > 0:22:36Holy moly!

0:22:36 > 0:22:38That's like a swimming pool down there.

0:22:38 > 0:22:40- Is it like a swimming pool?- Mm-hm.

0:22:40 > 0:22:42Today is showing Stephen

0:22:42 > 0:22:44exactly the future he wants.

0:22:44 > 0:22:46Coming here, I think it'll make us all

0:22:46 > 0:22:51just that bit happier as a family

0:22:51 > 0:22:53and I think it would make me a bit easier to get on with

0:22:53 > 0:22:57if I was a bit happier in my life.

0:22:57 > 0:23:00So, yeah. I think it could be life-changing

0:23:00 > 0:23:03and I need to prove that to Elissa.

0:23:03 > 0:23:08But proving it to Elissa could be easier said than done.

0:23:09 > 0:23:11This is amazing, don't get me wrong.

0:23:11 > 0:23:14But in reality, if you were living here

0:23:14 > 0:23:17working a 48-hour week,

0:23:17 > 0:23:20would you be going somewhere every single weekend?

0:23:20 > 0:23:24You know, how much of this would we actually do?

0:23:24 > 0:23:30I don't know if it's enough to sway me to move here, you know?

0:23:30 > 0:23:32To give everything up.

0:23:33 > 0:23:36Has the day together convinced Elissa

0:23:36 > 0:23:38of the benefits of the Aussie lifestyle?

0:23:38 > 0:23:40Time to vote.

0:23:40 > 0:23:43Based on the activities we've done here in Australia as a family,

0:23:43 > 0:23:46we're going to vote for...

0:23:48 > 0:23:50- Australia.- Australia.

0:23:54 > 0:23:55That's good.

0:23:55 > 0:24:01That's purely because we get more family time out here.

0:24:01 > 0:24:04- Usable family time, with the weather.- Without...yeah.

0:24:04 > 0:24:08Being outside, and there's more activities to do

0:24:08 > 0:24:09for the three of us, that are mutual.

0:24:09 > 0:24:11That's another surprise vote

0:24:11 > 0:24:15from Elissa, but it is good news for Stephen.

0:24:15 > 0:24:18Is he really one step closer to the life he wants?

0:24:24 > 0:24:27The Aussie lifestyle showed Stephen and Elissa

0:24:27 > 0:24:30a real upside to life down under,

0:24:30 > 0:24:33but affording it and having time to enjoy it

0:24:33 > 0:24:36would mean finding good work prospects in Brisbane.

0:24:36 > 0:24:38Otherwise, the Bishops could find themselves

0:24:38 > 0:24:41in the same situation they are at home.

0:24:43 > 0:24:47In the Shetlands, Stephen works in maintenance at an oil terminal.

0:24:47 > 0:24:51Having trained as a marine engineer, he'd like to get back to the kind of work he loves.

0:24:51 > 0:24:53It's not a job I like to do.

0:24:53 > 0:24:57I'd like to try and get my skills back.

0:24:57 > 0:24:59I feel I've lost a lot of my skills.

0:24:59 > 0:25:01I'd like to get back into

0:25:01 > 0:25:04the engineering side of things rather than maintenance.

0:25:07 > 0:25:11We've arranged for him to visit a local shipyard.

0:25:11 > 0:25:14He hopes Australia will provide more chances

0:25:14 > 0:25:16of working in the boating industry and give him

0:25:16 > 0:25:18the family life he's missing out on.

0:25:18 > 0:25:21I work nearly seven days a week

0:25:21 > 0:25:25back home as much as I can just to try and make ends meet.

0:25:25 > 0:25:30The idea of moving here is to spend more family time.

0:25:30 > 0:25:35Spend more time with my daughter Maddy.

0:25:35 > 0:25:40I don't want to be working 12-hour days every day of the week.

0:25:41 > 0:25:45Meanwhile, Elissa is visiting a riding centre.

0:25:45 > 0:25:47As horses are her passion and her business,

0:25:47 > 0:25:50it's vital she can do something similar in Australia.

0:25:50 > 0:25:53- Hi.- Hi.- I'm Elissa.

0:25:53 > 0:25:55- I'm Debbie.- How's it going?

0:25:55 > 0:25:57So glad to be here.

0:25:57 > 0:25:59I've been needing a horsey fix! (THEY LAUGH)

0:25:59 > 0:26:02So, you live here, then?

0:26:02 > 0:26:05Yeah, my house is just up the hill, which is fantastic.

0:26:05 > 0:26:08- Get up out of bed, walk down to the stables...- Yeah.

0:26:08 > 0:26:10See, this is so like the set-up

0:26:10 > 0:26:13I have back home, but it's just like the Australian version.

0:26:13 > 0:26:15- Can I have a look? - Yeah, come through,

0:26:15 > 0:26:17and I'll show you all the horses.

0:26:18 > 0:26:20While Elissa gets her fix of horses,

0:26:20 > 0:26:26Stephen is getting his fix of boats and engines with the site manager.

0:26:26 > 0:26:29This vessel here's from one of the islands

0:26:29 > 0:26:32up in the Whitsundays. She's due for a major service.

0:26:32 > 0:26:35- Yeah?- Let's go up and have a look.

0:26:38 > 0:26:42- As you can see, it's seen better days.- Yeah.

0:26:42 > 0:26:47But with a little tender loving care, she'll come back good as new.

0:26:49 > 0:26:54So, as you can see, we've got one engine out already,

0:26:54 > 0:26:56and the other one's

0:26:56 > 0:26:59pretty much due to come out as well. And then either replace or rebuild,

0:26:59 > 0:27:03- fit it all back in.- Yeah.- All right?

0:27:03 > 0:27:05So, kind of interesting stuff,

0:27:05 > 0:27:08it's a big project you can really get your teeth into

0:27:08 > 0:27:11- and get excited about. - Exactly what I'm looking for.- Yeah.

0:27:11 > 0:27:14That sounds promising.

0:27:14 > 0:27:18Elissa hasn't been able to resist getting into the saddle.

0:27:18 > 0:27:20- Enjoy that?- Yeah, really.

0:27:20 > 0:27:23She's just so comfortable to ride.

0:27:23 > 0:27:26It was fun. Thank you, Crystal.

0:27:26 > 0:27:29It's just lovely being able to ride out

0:27:29 > 0:27:33in this lovely weather. We just don't get that back home

0:27:33 > 0:27:36and it's given me a lot to think about in a good way,

0:27:36 > 0:27:39so thank you very, very much, and we'll stay in contact.

0:27:39 > 0:27:43Yes, definitely. Keep in touch, and it's my pleasure.

0:27:43 > 0:27:44It was really nice to meet you.

0:27:44 > 0:27:47- And good luck with all your decisions!- Thank you.

0:27:47 > 0:27:48At the boat yard,

0:27:48 > 0:27:52Stephen is steaming straight to the most crucial questions.

0:27:52 > 0:27:56- What kind of wage can you expect here?- The wages for your type of qualifications

0:27:56 > 0:28:00would be between 50 and 60,000 Australian.

0:28:00 > 0:28:02At best, that's around £38,000.

0:28:02 > 0:28:07Less than he earns in the UK, though there is one big difference.

0:28:07 > 0:28:10And that's based on how many hours a week?

0:28:10 > 0:28:13A 38-hour work week, which is Monday to Thursday.

0:28:13 > 0:28:15It'll be a 7am start and a 4 o'clock finish,

0:28:15 > 0:28:20and on Friday it's a 7 o'clock start and a 2 o'clock finish.

0:28:20 > 0:28:23It's nice to have that two-and-a-half-day weekend.

0:28:23 > 0:28:25Yeah. Sounds really good.

0:28:25 > 0:28:26That's great news for Stephen.

0:28:26 > 0:28:31This move is all about being able to spend more time with his family.

0:28:31 > 0:28:36Being able to ride again has really got Elissa thinking.

0:28:36 > 0:28:38Being out here with the nice weather

0:28:38 > 0:28:41and knowing you can really plan ahead here in the horsey world,

0:28:41 > 0:28:47for breaking and training and just going out for a hack,

0:28:47 > 0:28:51the business side of things is really promising.

0:28:51 > 0:28:53That sounds suspiciously like

0:28:53 > 0:28:55she's considering moving to Australia.

0:28:55 > 0:28:58You know, it could be possible. I could be happy here.

0:28:58 > 0:29:01It's a little bit of a change for me,

0:29:01 > 0:29:03a little bit of a turnaround, I think.

0:29:03 > 0:29:06It looks like Stephen's dreaming of emigrating

0:29:06 > 0:29:09has suddenly moved one step closer to becoming a reality.

0:29:09 > 0:29:12Especially as the idea of lower wages doesn't seem a problem.

0:29:12 > 0:29:16It's a completely different job to what I'm doing at the moment

0:29:16 > 0:29:20back home. The job I'm doing at the moment isn't something I enjoy,

0:29:20 > 0:29:24so I'd rather take a pay cut

0:29:24 > 0:29:28and do something I do enjoy, especially out here

0:29:28 > 0:29:30in the beautiful weather.

0:29:30 > 0:29:33But could he be putting his dream ahead of the financial reality?

0:29:33 > 0:29:36Time to vote on work.

0:29:36 > 0:29:39Based on job opportunities out here in Australia

0:29:39 > 0:29:42and what I've seen today, I vote for...

0:29:45 > 0:29:46Australia.

0:29:47 > 0:29:51Stephen is still pressing on for Australia.

0:29:51 > 0:29:53Can he really afford the move?

0:29:58 > 0:30:00Despite his mixed news,

0:30:00 > 0:30:05Stephen still believes the benefits of moving would outweigh the risks,

0:30:05 > 0:30:10and Elissa seems to be warming to a life in Australia.

0:30:10 > 0:30:11But with the decision in the balance,

0:30:11 > 0:30:15seeing what their UK home is worth could be a major factor.

0:30:17 > 0:30:23Their house and land in the Shetlands cost £255,000 four years ago

0:30:23 > 0:30:26and they think it's now worth around 300,000,

0:30:26 > 0:30:28including Elissa's business.

0:30:30 > 0:30:32We sent two local estate agents

0:30:32 > 0:30:35to value the property in the current climate.

0:30:38 > 0:30:39Sunny day.

0:30:43 > 0:30:46This has been fairly fully renovated,

0:30:46 > 0:30:48insulated, new windows,

0:30:48 > 0:30:50new floors, new central heating.

0:30:57 > 0:31:00Fine freshly-decorated room.

0:31:00 > 0:31:02The only disadvantage here is the comb ceilings,

0:31:02 > 0:31:05which are in use as head height at the doors,

0:31:05 > 0:31:07and also with old property,

0:31:07 > 0:31:09the stairs are quite steep. But that said,

0:31:09 > 0:31:11decent accommodation upstairs.

0:31:11 > 0:31:13This is a form of croft house.

0:31:13 > 0:31:15If the house and various other assets

0:31:15 > 0:31:18are sold as an entity,

0:31:18 > 0:31:20we would estimate them realising

0:31:20 > 0:31:22in the region of £270-290,000.

0:31:24 > 0:31:26Having inspected the house,

0:31:26 > 0:31:27the land, and the outbuildings,

0:31:27 > 0:31:30I think we are dealing with a package value

0:31:30 > 0:31:31of 275,000.

0:31:31 > 0:31:35Those are both lower than the 300,000 they were hoping for.

0:31:37 > 0:31:41I'm completely gutted. Hugely disappointed.

0:31:41 > 0:31:44It's just the amount of money and everything

0:31:44 > 0:31:47we ploughed into that place, just to be told

0:31:47 > 0:31:49it's not worth any more than what we really paid for it.

0:31:49 > 0:31:54In some ways, it makes me even more thinking to not go back to that house.

0:31:55 > 0:31:59Well, I knew that would put fuel into your fire.

0:31:59 > 0:32:00Yeah.

0:32:00 > 0:32:04There's no way we'll be able to afford anything with land.

0:32:04 > 0:32:09And there's no way I'm coming without having horses and land.

0:32:10 > 0:32:11If looks could kill.

0:32:15 > 0:32:18Well, from my perspective, why would I...

0:32:18 > 0:32:19I know.

0:32:19 > 0:32:22..sell what we have to move to a house with nothing around me

0:32:22 > 0:32:26and I can't even keep a donkey in the garden?

0:32:26 > 0:32:28And why would I stay doing a job I hate

0:32:28 > 0:32:31to pay for a place that isn't worth anything?

0:32:31 > 0:32:33I know that, Stephen.

0:32:33 > 0:32:35So...

0:32:35 > 0:32:36See ya.

0:32:36 > 0:32:37There we are again.

0:32:41 > 0:32:43It's not all about money, though, Stephen,

0:32:43 > 0:32:46is it? When you're paying wherever you are...

0:32:46 > 0:32:49It is when I have to work all the time to keep the place...

0:32:49 > 0:32:52But so do I! I work seven days a week, Stephen.

0:32:52 > 0:32:56Yeah, but I'm working for a place I don't really want any more.

0:32:56 > 0:32:58I know you're not happy in your work

0:32:58 > 0:33:02and I know you don't like Shetland, Stephen.

0:33:02 > 0:33:05But looking at it from Maddy's side of things,

0:33:05 > 0:33:07she has a really good future back there.

0:33:07 > 0:33:10So I know you're gutted right now,

0:33:10 > 0:33:13but you need to pull yourself back a bit

0:33:13 > 0:33:16and weigh up the pros and cons, basically.

0:33:16 > 0:33:20Hmm. It's just thrown a huge spanner in the works, that one.

0:33:22 > 0:33:23For you.

0:33:23 > 0:33:24Yeah.

0:33:25 > 0:33:27Not so much for me.

0:33:37 > 0:33:41Finding out the value of their home seems to have really highlighted

0:33:41 > 0:33:44how Stephen and Elissa feel.

0:33:44 > 0:33:47However, Stephen isn't giving up so easily.

0:33:53 > 0:33:56We've prepared a comparison of their UK and Australian finances

0:33:56 > 0:33:58for them to examine.

0:33:58 > 0:34:02Will this be what puts an end to any hope of a move?

0:34:03 > 0:34:05Properties.

0:34:05 > 0:34:08So this is the one we liked the best,

0:34:08 > 0:34:10and it was cheapest. Monthly repayments.

0:34:10 > 0:34:13That's like double what we're paying now,

0:34:13 > 0:34:15just under.

0:34:15 > 0:34:17- Yeah.- That's a lot more. - That is a lot, yeah.

0:34:18 > 0:34:21And that's the cheapest. Cost of living...

0:34:21 > 0:34:23So your wage is going to be less.

0:34:23 > 0:34:25A lot less.

0:34:25 > 0:34:27Look at that after tax.

0:34:29 > 0:34:32Looks like you'd have to be working the same hours over here

0:34:32 > 0:34:34as you are back home.

0:34:34 > 0:34:36Horses, double.

0:34:36 > 0:34:38Clothes, more expensive.

0:34:40 > 0:34:43Nights out, more expensive.

0:34:49 > 0:34:53Right, so UK, we've got just over 2,200.

0:34:54 > 0:34:57- Outgoings?- Outgoings.

0:34:57 > 0:34:59Australia would be just over 3,000.

0:34:59 > 0:35:05So it's a lot more, and our mortgage is going to be 50-odd thousand more.

0:35:07 > 0:35:11And we're going to be just under £20,000 less in wages,

0:35:11 > 0:35:15so I'm going to have get a really good job ASAP

0:35:15 > 0:35:18and Maddy'll have to go into child care.

0:35:18 > 0:35:21- Yeah.- Or you're going to be working every hour God sends you.

0:35:24 > 0:35:27It's another blow. It's another blow to my dream, certainly.

0:35:31 > 0:35:34The difference in their living costs each month

0:35:34 > 0:35:37is a lot more than Stephen or Elissa expected.

0:35:38 > 0:35:43But if they both worked full time, the move might still be possible.

0:35:43 > 0:35:47Taking everything into account, how will they vote?

0:35:50 > 0:35:53Based on the finances that we've just found out,

0:35:53 > 0:35:55we're going to vote...

0:35:56 > 0:35:57UK.

0:36:02 > 0:36:04Hmm.

0:36:04 > 0:36:06Based on what we've seen today,

0:36:06 > 0:36:10it just wouldn't be financially viable to do it.

0:36:11 > 0:36:13It's gutting.

0:36:13 > 0:36:16Must be more so gutting for you.

0:36:16 > 0:36:17Absolutely.

0:36:22 > 0:36:25Seeing the price of his dream life in Australia

0:36:25 > 0:36:27was tough for Stephen to take.

0:36:27 > 0:36:30But there's one more cost they need to consider -

0:36:30 > 0:36:32the impact of leaving loved ones behind.

0:36:32 > 0:36:35While Maddy gets some sleep,

0:36:35 > 0:36:40Stephen and Elissa sit down to watch messages from family and friends.

0:36:40 > 0:36:43Can they really face the pain of leaving them behind?

0:36:43 > 0:36:44Ready?

0:36:47 > 0:36:48- Hello, folks.- Oh, Mum.

0:36:48 > 0:36:50I hope you're having a lovely time.

0:36:50 > 0:36:54Elissa's very loyal.

0:36:54 > 0:36:57She's good fun, she's always there for you.

0:36:57 > 0:36:59And there's never a dull moment when she's around.

0:36:59 > 0:37:02- She makes everything fun.- Mm-hm. - Everything.

0:37:02 > 0:37:04Stephen's lovely. He does a lot

0:37:04 > 0:37:07for Elissa and he does a lot for her friends.

0:37:07 > 0:37:09Always makes sure things are fixed.

0:37:09 > 0:37:13He's a very kind person, Stephen, and we'll miss him too.

0:37:13 > 0:37:16Stephen as a father, he loves Maddy.

0:37:16 > 0:37:19You can see it. He...

0:37:19 > 0:37:22He spends a lot of time... Maddy loves him.

0:37:22 > 0:37:25I think Stephen wants to go to Australia so he can

0:37:25 > 0:37:29better himself in his career. He can get a job that he really wants,

0:37:29 > 0:37:31that he's really passionate about.

0:37:31 > 0:37:33Stephen's so meticulous that he just wants a job

0:37:33 > 0:37:36that he can be a perfectionist at.

0:37:36 > 0:37:40- I think it'll give Stephen a new opportunity.- I do.

0:37:40 > 0:37:42He's not happy here with his job.

0:37:42 > 0:37:47I think they'll regret it if they don't go and try it.

0:37:47 > 0:37:52We only have Elissa as a daughter and Maddy's the only grandchild,

0:37:52 > 0:37:55so I don't think you could measure how much I'm going to miss Elissa

0:37:55 > 0:37:58and Maddy and Stephen if they go.

0:37:58 > 0:38:00You know, it's an awful long way to go

0:38:00 > 0:38:02if anything ever happened to them

0:38:02 > 0:38:05and would we...

0:38:05 > 0:38:09would we ever be able to afford to go there

0:38:09 > 0:38:11if anything happened to Stephen?

0:38:11 > 0:38:15You know that we'll be there whenever possible to see you,

0:38:15 > 0:38:18but you also know we'll miss you.

0:38:18 > 0:38:22Good luck to you both if that's what your plans are,

0:38:22 > 0:38:25and you know we're behind you 100%.

0:38:28 > 0:38:31- Well.- How's that made you feel?

0:38:31 > 0:38:35That Shetland's still for me.

0:38:37 > 0:38:39I'm 32 and the people I have

0:38:39 > 0:38:43around me now, I want them there every day.

0:38:43 > 0:38:46I want to see their faces every day.

0:38:46 > 0:38:47Mmm.

0:38:48 > 0:38:50I'm really happy back home.

0:38:50 > 0:38:54And I know you're not, and I don't know how that's going to change.

0:38:58 > 0:39:03I don't know. It's just... It's so hard.

0:39:03 > 0:39:06- We both want completely different things.- Mm-hm.

0:39:06 > 0:39:09I just don't even want to consider going home yet.

0:39:14 > 0:39:17I can't even bring myself to think about it.

0:39:19 > 0:39:23I mean, where does Maddy fit into your dream out here?

0:39:23 > 0:39:27I think Maddy'll have far more opportunity out here.

0:39:27 > 0:39:29But I struggle with her not sleeping

0:39:29 > 0:39:31and working with the help that I have

0:39:31 > 0:39:32at the moment, Stephen.

0:39:32 > 0:39:37You'll be out at work and I'll be there by myself.

0:39:37 > 0:39:39Do you not get this?

0:39:40 > 0:39:44I won't have that out here.

0:39:44 > 0:39:49And not only will I lose that, I'll lose everything that I've worked for.

0:39:49 > 0:39:51I can see that you hate your job,

0:39:51 > 0:39:55and I can see that you hate Shetland, but I can't help that.

0:40:01 > 0:40:04As they reach the end of their week, it's brought home

0:40:04 > 0:40:08just what Shetland means to Elissa. But Stephen's unhappiness

0:40:08 > 0:40:12with work and life in the UK is just as clear.

0:40:12 > 0:40:16It's an almost impossible dilemma for both of them to face.

0:40:16 > 0:40:20As they reach their final vote, they both have a lot to think about.

0:40:20 > 0:40:23It's only been seven days, but Elissa

0:40:23 > 0:40:25and Stephen have come a long way.

0:40:27 > 0:40:31It's opened my eyes a lot, this experience,

0:40:31 > 0:40:34to what it might be like to actually live here.

0:40:34 > 0:40:37Certainly, the cost of living was a bit of an eye opener.

0:40:39 > 0:40:41I do think about the decision

0:40:41 > 0:40:44day in, day out, really. It's just,

0:40:44 > 0:40:50my whole life I've wanted what I have,

0:40:50 > 0:40:52and I have it, and I've only had it for two years.

0:40:54 > 0:40:58But some days I wake up and I think,

0:40:58 > 0:41:01just give it a go, you know,

0:41:01 > 0:41:03make Stephen happy.

0:41:05 > 0:41:08It's time to make the final, crucial vote.

0:41:08 > 0:41:11Does their future lie in Australia?

0:41:11 > 0:41:14Or is giving up Shetland unthinkable?

0:41:14 > 0:41:18Well, this week's been an amazing opportunity.

0:41:18 > 0:41:22It's given us a real insight on what would happen if we moved out here,

0:41:22 > 0:41:25the pros and the cons.

0:41:25 > 0:41:28So, taking all that into account,

0:41:28 > 0:41:29now we're going to vote.

0:41:31 > 0:41:33UK.

0:41:34 > 0:41:36Undecided.

0:41:36 > 0:41:37I'm a bit surprised with that.

0:41:37 > 0:41:40Part of the idea of moving to Australia

0:41:40 > 0:41:43for me was to move out here

0:41:43 > 0:41:49and have some financial stability and not to be having to work every hour

0:41:49 > 0:41:52to sustain our life out here.

0:41:52 > 0:41:57But everything else considered, I'm still swayed towards Australia.

0:42:00 > 0:42:03It's a massive disappointment for Stephen. His years of dreaming

0:42:03 > 0:42:08about Australia have been rocked by the harsh realities of money and work.

0:42:08 > 0:42:14I know the safe and happy future that me and Maddy would have back home.

0:42:15 > 0:42:19I just don't know where Stephen fits into it all,

0:42:19 > 0:42:21because he's just not happy.

0:42:21 > 0:42:26Yeah, we're definitely going to have to sit down together and

0:42:26 > 0:42:29just really have a good think and

0:42:29 > 0:42:33have a good chat on where we go from here.

0:42:38 > 0:42:41It's been a tough week for the Bishops.

0:42:41 > 0:42:43They've been forced to confront

0:42:43 > 0:42:45the reality of wanting different lives.

0:42:45 > 0:42:48Hopefully, understanding the depth of their feelings

0:42:48 > 0:42:53will be the first step to finding the better future they all want.

0:42:53 > 0:42:55We wish them the very best of luck.
