0:00:02 > 0:00:05Convincing your family to move halfway around the world

0:00:05 > 0:00:06is a very tough sell.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09Especially if they've got big doubts.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12But what if the reality of moving so far away

0:00:12 > 0:00:14doesn't match your dreams?

0:00:14 > 0:00:16You risk hurting the people you love.

0:00:18 > 0:00:22If your ideal Aussie home turned out to be a nightmare...

0:00:22 > 0:00:24Oh, God, there's a cockroach.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26- It's horrible.- Yeah.

0:00:26 > 0:00:29..your daughter was torn by the idea of moving...

0:00:29 > 0:00:31I suppose one way or another,

0:00:31 > 0:00:33one parent's going to be heartbroke.

0:00:33 > 0:00:38..and your friends didn't want you to leave...

0:00:38 > 0:00:41It's going to just break my heart to say goodbye to them.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43..would you be able to hold on to your hopes

0:00:43 > 0:00:46of starting a new life down under?

0:01:09 > 0:01:13Australia's sunny climate and beautiful coastline

0:01:13 > 0:01:17have long been a magnet for Brits seeking a new life abroad.

0:01:17 > 0:01:21On average, almost 100 of us emigrate to Australia every day.

0:01:21 > 0:01:23But the dream doesn't always match up

0:01:23 > 0:01:26and roughly a third end up returning home.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29But that doesn't stop people from trying.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33The Buchanans want to find out if living in Australia

0:01:33 > 0:01:36could offer their family a better future.

0:01:36 > 0:01:39They'll have one week to experience life down under,

0:01:39 > 0:01:42before facing a huge decision,

0:01:42 > 0:01:46whether to stay in the UK or to make the move for good.

0:01:47 > 0:01:49Their journey from Scotland to Queensland

0:01:49 > 0:01:52is a massive 10,000 miles and 24 hours,

0:01:52 > 0:01:56and it's already got them worried about what they're taking on.

0:01:56 > 0:01:59- That was tough.- I don't think we could get used to that.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01Nobody could get used to that.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04If we make the decision to stay here,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06- I think the visits back home will be limited.- Yeah.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09Luckily, it's only a short trip from the airport

0:02:09 > 0:02:11to their base for the week.

0:02:12 > 0:02:15Back in the UK, the Buchanans live in Armadale,

0:02:15 > 0:02:17a small town near Edinburgh.

0:02:17 > 0:02:21They're Angie and husband Jason,

0:02:21 > 0:02:23along with Angie's son, Jordan, who's 18,

0:02:23 > 0:02:28her daughter, Sophie, who's 13 and their baby son, Jay, who's two.

0:02:28 > 0:02:30They've been married for six years

0:02:30 > 0:02:34but since the beginning, Jason has had one dream for the family.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38I visited Australia about nine years ago

0:02:38 > 0:02:41and ever since I've met Angie, I've wanted to go back.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45Unfortunately for Jason,

0:02:45 > 0:02:49Angie has very different ideas about where their future lies.

0:02:49 > 0:02:51I've never fancied going.

0:02:51 > 0:02:55I've always been... I'm Scottish, I stay in Scotland,

0:02:55 > 0:02:56this is where all my roots are.

0:02:56 > 0:03:01I like being a mum, having foundations for your family,

0:03:01 > 0:03:04whereas Jason would pack his bags and go tomorrow.

0:03:04 > 0:03:08However, concerns about the children's future

0:03:08 > 0:03:12have pushed Angie to finally consider Australia.

0:03:13 > 0:03:18We believe, after hours and hours of discussion,

0:03:18 > 0:03:21that it would be best for all of us in the family,

0:03:21 > 0:03:22in particular, Jordan.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25I think Jordan would benefit the most out of everybody.

0:03:27 > 0:03:3118-year-old Jordan has several disabilities that need extra care.

0:03:31 > 0:03:35Jason and Angie believe the Australian climate and lifestyle

0:03:35 > 0:03:38could improve his life dramatically.

0:03:38 > 0:03:41Jordan flourishes in the summer. When we go on holiday...

0:03:41 > 0:03:45Yeah, if we go on holiday, Jordan becomes a different boy altogether.

0:03:45 > 0:03:48The weather affecting his joints, and stuff like that.

0:03:48 > 0:03:50So, his mobility, his posture...

0:03:50 > 0:03:52He really finds it difficult here.

0:03:52 > 0:03:57When it comes to wintertime, Jordan basically hibernates in a room.

0:03:57 > 0:04:02We certainly believe he's got more potential than sitting in a room.

0:04:03 > 0:04:05Angie may have her doubts,

0:04:05 > 0:04:08but it's her daughter Sophie who's most worried about moving.

0:04:08 > 0:04:12Out of the whole family, she stands to lose the most.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15I don't' fancy living in Australia at all.

0:04:15 > 0:04:19My biggest fear would be I would never, ever see my little sisters

0:04:19 > 0:04:23or my dad or my friends, or stuff, ever again.

0:04:23 > 0:04:27So it would be quite upsetting to leave them and stuff.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30It's hard cos I don't want Sophie leaving our family,

0:04:30 > 0:04:35her dad and her sisters and step-family, but...

0:04:35 > 0:04:39the thing with Sophie is, I'm trying to better Sophie's life for her,

0:04:39 > 0:04:42give her more opportunities,

0:04:42 > 0:04:46and I think when we go to Australia, she'll flourish.

0:04:46 > 0:04:50So, I need to make sure that Sophie's OK in going to Australia.

0:04:50 > 0:04:53And with a close family network,

0:04:53 > 0:04:56Angie and Jason are also aware of what they could be giving up.

0:04:56 > 0:05:00My biggest concern would be leaving my mum.

0:05:00 > 0:05:05We see her almost daily. So, not only am I leaving her

0:05:05 > 0:05:09but I'm taking her grandkids away as well.

0:05:09 > 0:05:13Half of me feels that I should stay for family ties.

0:05:13 > 0:05:15My family mean the world to me.

0:05:15 > 0:05:19I have daily contact with them and I know that they'll visit

0:05:19 > 0:05:23but it's no' the same seeing them week to week.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26They've finally decided to give Australia a try,

0:05:26 > 0:05:30but with only one week to persuade his family,

0:05:30 > 0:05:32Jason knows the pressure is on.

0:05:32 > 0:05:35It's the two girls we have to convince

0:05:35 > 0:05:39to ensure that this goes through. Sophie and Angie.

0:05:39 > 0:05:42Jason would be there tomorrow.

0:05:42 > 0:05:44It's his dream. But, at the end of the day,

0:05:44 > 0:05:48it's not just Jason's choice, it's Jordan and Sophie and Jay's as well.

0:05:48 > 0:05:49It's a family thing.

0:05:53 > 0:05:56The Buchanans want to find out if Brisbane in Queensland

0:05:56 > 0:05:59could be a good place for a new start.

0:05:59 > 0:06:02As well as offering all the benefits of city living,

0:06:02 > 0:06:05it's warm climate should give them an opportunity

0:06:05 > 0:06:08to enjoy the outdoor Aussie lifestyle.

0:06:08 > 0:06:11But can it deliver everything they're looking for?

0:06:13 > 0:06:16They'll be staying in the Redcliffe area,

0:06:16 > 0:06:1820 miles north of the city.

0:06:18 > 0:06:22Home for the week is a traditional Queensland timber house.

0:06:22 > 0:06:24As it's Angie and the children's

0:06:24 > 0:06:26first experience of living in Australia,

0:06:26 > 0:06:28Jason knows it needs to impress.

0:06:28 > 0:06:29Oh, this is big, Jay.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33Oh, this is a dining room.

0:06:35 > 0:06:37- Oh, this is Jay's room!- Let me see!

0:06:39 > 0:06:42- Cool.- Oh, wow. - And that's Jordan's bed.

0:06:42 > 0:06:45This is bigger than your room, isn't it?

0:06:45 > 0:06:46Cool.

0:06:46 > 0:06:48Well, that's all sounding positive.

0:06:48 > 0:06:52But once they've had a chance to unpack,

0:06:52 > 0:06:54there are a few second thoughts.

0:06:54 > 0:06:57First impressions on the house, very old-fashioned.

0:06:57 > 0:07:01Definitely wouldn't be something that we would look at.

0:07:01 > 0:07:04Since I've got here, it's not really blown me away

0:07:04 > 0:07:08as much as I thought it would, so I hope it opens up to me

0:07:08 > 0:07:10a little later during the week.

0:07:10 > 0:07:14If Sophie decides that Australia's not for her

0:07:14 > 0:07:17then we've got to look at family dynamics,

0:07:17 > 0:07:21but Sophie fits into anything, and she's just tired, grumpy

0:07:21 > 0:07:24and I think she will enjoy it.

0:07:24 > 0:07:26If Sophie can't be convinced by Aussie homes,

0:07:26 > 0:07:28the week ahead is going to be an uphill struggle.

0:07:28 > 0:07:32Hopefully a good night's sleep will help everyone settle in.

0:07:32 > 0:07:36But as day breaks on their first morning in Brisbane,

0:07:36 > 0:07:38it becomes clear they've had anything but.

0:07:38 > 0:07:40When we came in yesterday,

0:07:40 > 0:07:44I don't think either one of us were completely happy with the house,

0:07:44 > 0:07:48but it just got worse. Behind the surface, the house was disgusting.

0:07:48 > 0:07:52We saw a mouse. And that, kind of, scared me.

0:07:52 > 0:07:55So, like, as far as it goes for me,

0:07:55 > 0:07:58I'm not convinced at all that I would like to live here.

0:07:58 > 0:08:01It's a bad start to the Buchanans' week,

0:08:01 > 0:08:05and a blow for Jason's hopes of convincing them to emigrate.

0:08:07 > 0:08:10Hopefully, a rapid relocation to a modern apartment,

0:08:10 > 0:08:13free of visitors, and right next to the beach,

0:08:13 > 0:08:16will help raise everyone's spirits.

0:08:16 > 0:08:18This is nice.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21This is much better.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23- This one is, aye.- I like this one.

0:08:26 > 0:08:28To afford their ideal property,

0:08:28 > 0:08:32the Buchanans are planning on selling their home in Scotland.

0:08:32 > 0:08:35But with low exchange rates and high prices,

0:08:35 > 0:08:39many new arrivals have found Aussie homes out of their reach.

0:08:39 > 0:08:41So, will the Buchanans have their work cut out

0:08:41 > 0:08:44finding a house they can love and afford?

0:08:46 > 0:08:49Back in the UK, the family live in a modern, five-bedroom home.

0:08:49 > 0:08:53It's their pride and joy, and they have strong ideas

0:08:53 > 0:08:56about what houses down under will need to offer.

0:08:56 > 0:08:58We need a four-bedroomed house

0:08:58 > 0:09:01because of the different ages of the kids.

0:09:01 > 0:09:03Hopefully, a newer-build house.

0:09:03 > 0:09:07The dream is to go there and have a nice standard of living,

0:09:07 > 0:09:10which, in the first place, equates to a nice house.

0:09:10 > 0:09:15They think their house is worth around £180,000

0:09:15 > 0:09:17and could have a budget of £250,000

0:09:17 > 0:09:21but they know that finding somewhere they can all be happy with

0:09:21 > 0:09:22won't be easy.

0:09:23 > 0:09:26Today, we've arranged to give the Buchanans

0:09:26 > 0:09:30a taste of Brisbane's housing market. We'll show them

0:09:30 > 0:09:31three typical options

0:09:31 > 0:09:34based upon what they want from their ideal home,

0:09:34 > 0:09:35what they can afford

0:09:35 > 0:09:39and the real price of property down under.

0:09:39 > 0:09:40After seeing what's on offer,

0:09:40 > 0:09:44we'll reveal to them just how much each house costs.

0:09:44 > 0:09:47The first stop is the suburb of Scarborough,

0:09:47 > 0:09:50about 20 miles north of Brisbane.

0:09:50 > 0:09:52Close to beaches, parks and shops,

0:09:52 > 0:09:56it should be a good location for the Buchanans' out-and-about lifestyle.

0:09:56 > 0:09:58The first house is in need of renovation,

0:09:58 > 0:10:02and could offer good value as well as the four bedrooms they want.

0:10:02 > 0:10:06But will it be something to write home about?

0:10:06 > 0:10:08- That's a bit strange, eh? - What's this?

0:10:08 > 0:10:12Whoof, oh, there's a big cockroach up there.

0:10:13 > 0:10:17Eugh. That's not a good start to any house viewing!

0:10:17 > 0:10:20- Oh, my God.- It's horrible.- Yeah.

0:10:20 > 0:10:23Oh, God, there's a cockroach.

0:10:23 > 0:10:27- This is the living area. - The living area?

0:10:27 > 0:10:29It's just strange. I can't get my head around it.

0:10:29 > 0:10:32It's not getting any better upstairs

0:10:32 > 0:10:35but Jason does have an idea on how to improve things.

0:10:35 > 0:10:37If anything was to be done with this house,

0:10:37 > 0:10:40- I think it needs knocked down.- Yeah. - And rebuilt.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43What about little Jay? He seems pretty relaxed.

0:10:43 > 0:10:45- Do you like this house?- No.

0:10:45 > 0:10:50OK, then. This house is definitely not the start Jason wanted

0:10:50 > 0:10:52and that's before they've even found out the price.

0:10:52 > 0:10:58Will their budget be enough to cover the property and renovation costs?

0:10:59 > 0:11:02- No way.- £217,000.

0:11:03 > 0:11:05- No chance.- No chance.

0:11:05 > 0:11:09Totally surprised at how much this is valued.

0:11:09 > 0:11:11I just think it's so run down.

0:11:11 > 0:11:14We'd need to spend that to get it up to standard.

0:11:14 > 0:11:16- That's really surprising. - I'm shocked.

0:11:16 > 0:11:18I really thought half of that.

0:11:18 > 0:11:20Really, really shocked.

0:11:20 > 0:11:22It might be affordable,

0:11:22 > 0:11:26but this house has got Jason's dream off to the worst possible start,

0:11:26 > 0:11:30and a future in Oz is looking a long way away.

0:11:30 > 0:11:34Also in Scarborough, the second house has four bedrooms and is located

0:11:34 > 0:11:37a short walk from the waterfront, with its parks and cafes.

0:11:39 > 0:11:41For Jason, it really needs to impress.

0:11:43 > 0:11:46- Oh, this is nice. - Seems cool.- Much better.

0:11:46 > 0:11:49Oh, look at that, Jay!

0:11:49 > 0:11:50Wow!

0:11:50 > 0:11:53This is more like what we were...

0:11:53 > 0:11:55- I love it.- ..looking for.

0:11:55 > 0:11:59The pool is an ideal start, but they've yet to set foot indoors.

0:11:59 > 0:12:02- Oh, that's nice.- Oh, that's just lovely.- Oh, wow, look at that.

0:12:02 > 0:12:05Great. Spot on.

0:12:05 > 0:12:08- It's lovely.- It's lovely. - It's absolutely lovely.

0:12:08 > 0:12:10I love the ceiling, I love the windows...

0:12:10 > 0:12:13Just the whole layout, it's just perfect.

0:12:13 > 0:12:16This is music to Jason's ears. And eyes.

0:12:16 > 0:12:20Oh, look. That teddy's got bagpipes on it.

0:12:20 > 0:12:23- Look?- It's a sign. Is this Jordy's room?

0:12:23 > 0:12:26We'd need to get this decorated for you, wouldn't we?

0:12:26 > 0:12:27You'd get everything in here.

0:12:27 > 0:12:30Do you think this would be the perfect size for you?

0:12:30 > 0:12:33This house has done a much better job

0:12:33 > 0:12:36of impressing the Buchanans than the first

0:12:36 > 0:12:38but will its price keep up the good work?

0:12:40 > 0:12:42So, this is the price of this house.

0:12:42 > 0:12:43Ready?

0:12:44 > 0:12:46365.

0:12:46 > 0:12:49- I would say that was definitely... - Worth it.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51..at the very limit of what we could afford.

0:12:51 > 0:12:52- Mmm.- I think.

0:12:52 > 0:12:58I'm not surprised it's that much because the house is stunning

0:12:58 > 0:13:00and it's really, really big.

0:13:00 > 0:13:01It's everything I would want.

0:13:01 > 0:13:06It may be out of budget. We need to look at...

0:13:06 > 0:13:10It looks like Jason's hopes of moving his family are on the up

0:13:10 > 0:13:14but the price is stratospheric.

0:13:14 > 0:13:18Can the final house convince everyone without breaking the bank?

0:13:18 > 0:13:21It's in the area of North Lakes, slightly closer to central Brisbane.

0:13:21 > 0:13:24But, being 15 minutes inland,

0:13:24 > 0:13:28it should offer more value for money.

0:13:28 > 0:13:32As a four-bed new build, it sounds like it could suit everyone.

0:13:32 > 0:13:34This is lovely.

0:13:34 > 0:13:36But I cannot see how we could afford this.

0:13:40 > 0:13:41Wow.

0:13:43 > 0:13:47This is nice. This...is...nice.

0:13:48 > 0:13:51If we could get something like this, I'd die a happy man.

0:13:51 > 0:13:54I think that means Jason is impressed.

0:13:54 > 0:13:57And this is nice, eh?

0:13:57 > 0:14:00- This is lovely.- His-and-hers sinks.

0:14:00 > 0:14:03His-and-hers showers, look! That's crazy.

0:14:03 > 0:14:06I just... I like the modern build house,

0:14:06 > 0:14:09and, for me, this... It ticks all the boxes.

0:14:09 > 0:14:11This would be my dream home.

0:14:11 > 0:14:15That's good to hear, but do the rest of the family agree?

0:14:15 > 0:14:17I love this house.

0:14:18 > 0:14:22I'm beginning to like Australia, I suppose.

0:14:22 > 0:14:27I guess it's safe to say this house is a hit, inside and out.

0:14:27 > 0:14:31- There's a pool.- Never mind the pool, look at the barbecue.

0:14:31 > 0:14:33Unbelievable.

0:14:33 > 0:14:36And it's even prompted some second thoughts from Sophie.

0:14:36 > 0:14:41- I think I would consider moving... - For this house.

0:14:41 > 0:14:43..if this was our house.

0:14:43 > 0:14:45Much to Jason's relief,

0:14:45 > 0:14:48this house seems to offer everything the Buchanans want.

0:14:48 > 0:14:53But, is the dream house just that or could it be a real possibility?

0:14:54 > 0:14:57- 350,000. It's cheaper.- It's cheaper.

0:15:01 > 0:15:04I can't believe that this is cheaper than the other house.

0:15:04 > 0:15:05It's kind of shocked me.

0:15:05 > 0:15:09With this being more modern, newer,

0:15:09 > 0:15:12I thought it would be more expensive.

0:15:12 > 0:15:16This is great news for Jason's dream,

0:15:16 > 0:15:19but, at £100,000 over budget, it comes with a hefty price tag.

0:15:21 > 0:15:26The Buchanans' day started with a horror show at the first house...

0:15:26 > 0:15:29But everyone's spirits picked up at the second.

0:15:30 > 0:15:34And the third was everything they wanted down under.

0:15:34 > 0:15:38So, what's the verdict on property in Australia versus the UK?

0:15:41 > 0:15:43ALL: Australia!

0:15:46 > 0:15:50That was a bit of a surprise, then. Bit of a turn up for the books.

0:15:53 > 0:15:55Well done, son.

0:15:58 > 0:16:01Well, compared to Armadale,

0:16:01 > 0:16:06I think the houses are a lot more better here than they are there

0:16:06 > 0:16:09and I think I could see myself living in a house here

0:16:09 > 0:16:13rather than, kind of, the same style of house over there.

0:16:13 > 0:16:15Definitely. Australia all the way.

0:16:23 > 0:16:27With Angie and Sophie falling in love with property in Brisbane,

0:16:27 > 0:16:31things couldn't have started any better for Jason.

0:16:31 > 0:16:34But neither of the houses they liked will come cheaply,

0:16:34 > 0:16:38putting pressure on Angie to find good work prospects.

0:16:40 > 0:16:42In the UK, Angie currently works in social care

0:16:42 > 0:16:46but she would like to get back to her original profession

0:16:46 > 0:16:48if they move to Australia.

0:16:48 > 0:16:51I've been with the council for just under five years.

0:16:51 > 0:16:55I took a short break in nursing and I came here.

0:16:55 > 0:16:59Ideally, my main aim is to go back into children's nursing

0:16:59 > 0:17:02because I'm a qualified children's nurse.

0:17:02 > 0:17:05It's Angie's qualifications that hold the key to getting a visa

0:17:05 > 0:17:09but she knows that moving will involve a sacrifice for her,

0:17:09 > 0:17:11to afford the lifestyle they want.

0:17:11 > 0:17:13I don't want to be working full-time.

0:17:13 > 0:17:16But I do understand that I might have to

0:17:16 > 0:17:19for the sake of the children. But in an ideal world,

0:17:19 > 0:17:22two days a week would be great. To go back into nursing.

0:17:22 > 0:17:25The whole move rests on her shoulders,

0:17:25 > 0:17:29so we've arranged for Angie to visit Brisbane's Redcliffe Hospital,

0:17:29 > 0:17:32to get a feel for working in Australia.

0:17:32 > 0:17:35- Hiya.- Hello, I'm Emma Fitzhenry, the Nurse Unit Manager for Paediatrics.

0:17:35 > 0:17:39- How are you doing?- Nervous. - Oh, you'll be all right.

0:17:39 > 0:17:42- Come with me, we'll go up to the children's ward.- Thank you.

0:17:42 > 0:17:46While Angie gets to see the hospital,

0:17:46 > 0:17:49Jason is taking the children to the park.

0:17:49 > 0:17:52If they do emigrate, he'll look after them while they settle,

0:17:52 > 0:17:53before finding work.

0:17:53 > 0:17:58Back home, I owned my own business dealing with office technology,

0:17:58 > 0:18:01in particular, photocopiers, printers and scanners.

0:18:01 > 0:18:04However, coming to Australia, at this stage,

0:18:04 > 0:18:08I wouldn't have any ambition to start up my own company,

0:18:08 > 0:18:10coming over here.

0:18:10 > 0:18:13I think it would be wise to find employment

0:18:13 > 0:18:15and see where that goes.

0:18:15 > 0:18:20Back on the ward, Emma is putting Angie's bedside manner to the test.

0:18:20 > 0:18:22Has she still got what it takes?

0:18:23 > 0:18:28- So, I might just introduce you to Calum.- Hiya. And what did you do?

0:18:28 > 0:18:32- I didn't do it. Someone fell on top of me.- Playing football?

0:18:33 > 0:18:36Skateboarding? Or chasing girls?

0:18:38 > 0:18:41- Can I see your arm? And show us?- Wow.

0:18:41 > 0:18:44And did you get to choose your own colour?

0:18:44 > 0:18:48- Have your friends wrote on it? - Yeah.- Yeah?

0:18:48 > 0:18:50While Angie's back in a familiar routine,

0:18:50 > 0:18:53Sophie's thinking about a new life

0:18:53 > 0:18:55and what that could mean in Australia.

0:18:55 > 0:18:57It's been really good since we're here, surprisingly.

0:18:57 > 0:19:00Didn't think it'd be as good as it has been.

0:19:00 > 0:19:03I think the thing that's most pushing me towards Australia now

0:19:03 > 0:19:07is just being here and experiencing it for yourself is...

0:19:07 > 0:19:11It's not like a holiday, it's actually somewhere you could live.

0:19:11 > 0:19:13But she still has a long way to go

0:19:13 > 0:19:17before she can choose where her future lies.

0:19:17 > 0:19:19I think the hardest thing for me

0:19:19 > 0:19:21would be leaving my dad and my sisters and my stepmum

0:19:21 > 0:19:24and I think...

0:19:24 > 0:19:26I try not to think about it, to be honest.

0:19:34 > 0:19:39Back at the hospital, Angie is getting down to business with Emma.

0:19:39 > 0:19:41At home, I worked part-time, so, what,

0:19:41 > 0:19:43is there vacancies for part-time staff or...

0:19:43 > 0:19:45Yep, most of my staff are part-time.

0:19:45 > 0:19:48- Oh, right.- It's the minority that are full-time.

0:19:48 > 0:19:51So, you know, it's a great work/life balance.

0:19:51 > 0:19:53There are vacancies available?

0:19:53 > 0:19:57We don't have any vacancies at the moment

0:19:57 > 0:20:00but with six beds opening at the beginning of next year,

0:20:00 > 0:20:03I'll have eight full-time positions.

0:20:03 > 0:20:05Thank you. When it comes to salaries,

0:20:05 > 0:20:08what is, like, a full-time employee and what's part-time?

0:20:08 > 0:20:11So, it's dependent on your experience

0:20:11 > 0:20:13and where you would sit on the pay-scale.

0:20:13 > 0:20:16As a registered nurse, you could earn anywhere from 58,000

0:20:16 > 0:20:20to 78,000 at the top end of the scale.

0:20:20 > 0:20:25Oh, that's great. But Jason wouldn't want to work if that was the case.

0:20:25 > 0:20:29That definitely sounds like good news.

0:20:29 > 0:20:33It means she could have a starting pay of £37,000 a year,

0:20:33 > 0:20:36£19,000 more than her current part-time salary.

0:20:36 > 0:20:40Today has been very, very positive. I feel a lot calmer.

0:20:40 > 0:20:43I'm a bit excited, actually, being honest with you.

0:20:43 > 0:20:46Angie's prospects look good

0:20:46 > 0:20:48but will they make up for the sacrifices

0:20:48 > 0:20:51she'll have to make in order to move to Australia?

0:20:51 > 0:20:52I really had a nice day.

0:20:52 > 0:20:56The girls in the ward have been really nice and very helpful.

0:20:56 > 0:20:59So, yeah. Very, very positive experience.

0:20:59 > 0:21:01So, how will she vote?

0:21:01 > 0:21:03Australia!

0:21:04 > 0:21:06For me, as the main applicant,

0:21:06 > 0:21:10I feel that I've got no worries getting a job.

0:21:10 > 0:21:14It's been a very pleasant experience today.

0:21:18 > 0:21:22Another vote for Oz is more good news for Jason.

0:21:22 > 0:21:24However, there is a catch.

0:21:24 > 0:21:28A bigger salary would help pay for the lifestyle they want

0:21:28 > 0:21:29but working full-time

0:21:29 > 0:21:33would mean Angie has less time to enjoy it with them.

0:21:33 > 0:21:37Could seeing the value of their home make their decision any clearer?

0:21:37 > 0:21:41Back in the UK, Jason and Angie live in a five-bedroom house,

0:21:41 > 0:21:46which they've lovingly renovated and believe to be worth £180,000.

0:21:46 > 0:21:51They'll need every penny to afford a house they like in Australia.

0:21:51 > 0:21:53We've sent round two estate agents

0:21:53 > 0:21:56to give us their opinion on their home in Armadale.

0:21:56 > 0:21:58Come on up with Daddy.

0:21:59 > 0:22:03Ooh. Look at this, Jay. Whose house is that?

0:22:04 > 0:22:05Very nice room.

0:22:05 > 0:22:08'One decorative wall, which is quite loud.'

0:22:08 > 0:22:11Not to everyone's taste, but that can be changed.

0:22:11 > 0:22:13'I don't personally like it, but...'

0:22:16 > 0:22:19There's your motorbike.

0:22:19 > 0:22:22Bedroom on the lower level, that's always handy to have.

0:22:22 > 0:22:28It's been a garage conversion, which does add value to your property.

0:22:28 > 0:22:30Ssh! Ssh! Wallpaper, let's see.

0:22:32 > 0:22:33Yeah, a good-sized room.

0:22:33 > 0:22:35Nice, tasteful decoration,

0:22:35 > 0:22:38'it's not cluttered at all.'

0:22:38 > 0:22:41What room are we going up to now?

0:22:41 > 0:22:44Wow. This is lovely.

0:22:44 > 0:22:45Thank you.

0:22:45 > 0:22:46Justin fan, obviously.

0:22:46 > 0:22:48'Even on the light switch. Amazing.'

0:22:51 > 0:22:54It's a classic four-bed detached house with a garage conversion.

0:22:54 > 0:22:56In the current market,

0:22:56 > 0:22:59there are quite a few on the market in the area

0:22:59 > 0:23:02and there is a bit of competition for the property

0:23:02 > 0:23:07but, typically, I would expect it to sell for £170 - £175,000.

0:23:07 > 0:23:11'In my opinion, I reckon this house should achieve about 185,'

0:23:11 > 0:23:15about £180,000 for a quick sale.

0:23:15 > 0:23:17That should be achievable at a fixed price.

0:23:19 > 0:23:22Those prices were not a surprise at all.

0:23:22 > 0:23:26We realised that we couldn't get the house that we want in Australia

0:23:26 > 0:23:31for the price of our house in Armadale, but what it does do,

0:23:31 > 0:23:34it just confirms that we need to use as much equity

0:23:34 > 0:23:38and savings as possible to get our dream home in Australia.

0:23:38 > 0:23:42At this precise moment in time, this is our future,

0:23:42 > 0:23:47this is the kiddies' future and, as a family, you do whatever you can

0:23:47 > 0:23:52to get whatever you want, what you're used to, and can it live...

0:23:52 > 0:23:55up to that expectation, eh?

0:23:56 > 0:23:59That's more or less what they expected.

0:23:59 > 0:24:01But even if they use all their savings

0:24:01 > 0:24:05and equity on the move to Australia, will it be enough?

0:24:05 > 0:24:08We've prepared a breakdown of their everyday living costs

0:24:08 > 0:24:12to see if they can afford the life they dream of in Australia.

0:24:12 > 0:24:15So, that turns out approximately £15 a week cheaper.

0:24:15 > 0:24:18£60 a month, which is, well... It's a big saving.

0:24:20 > 0:24:25- Oh, look at the size of the mortgage. - Mortgage repayments 1,811,

0:24:25 > 0:24:29so, the mortgage payment has doubled.

0:24:30 > 0:24:34- OK.- That's 75...- Uh-huh.- Equals...

0:24:36 > 0:24:40So. Total is 3,091.

0:24:40 > 0:24:43So, in terms of outgoings,

0:24:43 > 0:24:46we're just at slightly more than we would be back home.

0:24:46 > 0:24:51However, our salaries have increased quite substantially

0:24:51 > 0:24:54which means we're far better off here.

0:24:54 > 0:24:56- We're quids in.- We're quids in.

0:24:58 > 0:25:00We were thinking, possibly,

0:25:00 > 0:25:03when it came to the calculations of everything and putting it together,

0:25:03 > 0:25:07we were a bit worried, or apprehensive...

0:25:07 > 0:25:11That it wouldn't go our way, and that we wouldn't have the opportunity...

0:25:11 > 0:25:12And that might be the first thing

0:25:12 > 0:25:14that would put some doubt in our mind

0:25:14 > 0:25:16whether it was the right move or not, but...

0:25:18 > 0:25:20It's went the other way, to be honest.

0:25:20 > 0:25:22The salaries have been pretty overwhelming

0:25:22 > 0:25:25in terms of what we could potentially earn here.

0:25:27 > 0:25:29Angie and Jason have worked out

0:25:29 > 0:25:33they would be a lot better off in Australia

0:25:33 > 0:25:37if they both work full-time. So, how will they vote?

0:25:37 > 0:25:40The reality check, which was all positive,

0:25:40 > 0:25:45and for that reason, we're going to vote...

0:25:50 > 0:25:52Australia.

0:25:54 > 0:25:56Australia.

0:26:09 > 0:26:12Seeing the figures in black and white

0:26:12 > 0:26:15has convinced Angie a move down under could work.

0:26:15 > 0:26:19But what's always been at the heart of Jason's dream

0:26:19 > 0:26:23is the opportunity for the whole family to enjoy a better lifestyle,

0:26:23 > 0:26:25in particular, Jordan and Sophie.

0:26:25 > 0:26:29Back in the UK, they enjoy spending time together.

0:26:29 > 0:26:32We are a very close-knit family,

0:26:32 > 0:26:36but that has its own challenges because of the age gaps

0:26:36 > 0:26:38between Jay, Jordan and Sophie.

0:26:38 > 0:26:41So, we do the regular outings that all families do

0:26:41 > 0:26:45but we also enjoy the simple walks with the dogs

0:26:45 > 0:26:48and that's important to us,

0:26:48 > 0:26:51that we keep that together, somehow, in Australia.

0:26:54 > 0:26:58All I want for Jordan and Sophie and Jay are good things in life.

0:26:58 > 0:27:02I just want them to blossom and get the chances and opportunities

0:27:02 > 0:27:05that I never did as a child or a teenager.

0:27:05 > 0:27:09And if that means that Australia could be their next home

0:27:09 > 0:27:13and provide different activities and a different way of life for them,

0:27:13 > 0:27:15then that's where we have to go.

0:27:20 > 0:27:25One of the biggest factors in deciding whether Australia

0:27:25 > 0:27:29is the place for them is what kind of life it could offer Jordan.

0:27:29 > 0:27:32Angie and Jason hope that it will give him his independence

0:27:32 > 0:27:35and the outdoor life he thrives in.

0:27:35 > 0:27:40I think both of us firmly believe Jordan's got more potential in him.

0:27:40 > 0:27:44But I think that the two of us would like Jordan to have a wee job and...

0:27:44 > 0:27:46And start his own life.

0:27:46 > 0:27:50He is, kind of, secluded to his wee self

0:27:50 > 0:27:55and he doesn't have any communications with anybody.

0:27:55 > 0:27:59And, as a mum, it's worrying because you don't want

0:27:59 > 0:28:03everything that you've done for your son, for him to waste away.

0:28:03 > 0:28:07So we've arranged for them to visit Cascade Place,

0:28:07 > 0:28:10a day centre for adults with disabilities.

0:28:10 > 0:28:13- Welcome, guys.- Hi there, how you doing? I'm Jason.- G'day, Jason.

0:28:13 > 0:28:15- This is Jordan. - G'day, Jordan. How are you, mate?

0:28:15 > 0:28:18Come on through, guys. Welcome.

0:28:18 > 0:28:20This is nice and colourful.

0:28:20 > 0:28:22Everything that you see in this room

0:28:22 > 0:28:24has been made here by the artists of the place.

0:28:24 > 0:28:27So, I'll take you for a bit of a wander through the building

0:28:27 > 0:28:30and show you some of the ways we do it

0:28:30 > 0:28:32and a couple of the other things that we've got.

0:28:32 > 0:28:35Through here we have our recording studio

0:28:35 > 0:28:37where we have Chris and Kieran and Jeremy.

0:28:37 > 0:28:40- Hiya, guys.- So, Jordan, I know you're interested in music...

0:28:40 > 0:28:42There's a whole range of activities

0:28:42 > 0:28:45that Jordan could pick from whenever he wants.

0:28:45 > 0:28:49This dress pattern was actually donated to us, the pattern itself,

0:28:49 > 0:28:53but we make all the inserts, they're all unique.

0:28:53 > 0:28:56Everything that's made here is unique, you can't reproduce it,

0:28:56 > 0:28:59so all the guys here and others on other days

0:28:59 > 0:29:03make that insert and we sew it here and we sell them all.

0:29:03 > 0:29:06We have exhibitions at galleries on a regular basis

0:29:06 > 0:29:10but we also have arrangements with local coffee shops,

0:29:10 > 0:29:14places on the waterfront where they're happy to display it

0:29:14 > 0:29:15and sell it for us.

0:29:15 > 0:29:18But it's not just about arts and crafts for Jordan.

0:29:18 > 0:29:20Angie and Jason's dream

0:29:20 > 0:29:23is for him to become more independent in the future.

0:29:23 > 0:29:28All I've ever wanted was for Jordan to be seen as a person,

0:29:28 > 0:29:32not as a figure or a number, or just somebody with special needs,

0:29:32 > 0:29:35but to be identified as Jordan.

0:29:35 > 0:29:38Geoff Trappet from Queensland's Cerebral Palsy League,

0:29:38 > 0:29:40is able to address their concerns.

0:29:40 > 0:29:44What's really important for us is how we can progress Jordan

0:29:44 > 0:29:47and find the right activities or workshops

0:29:47 > 0:29:50that's going to take him into adulthood.

0:29:50 > 0:29:52So, it's about building those skills up

0:29:52 > 0:29:54that someone would build up in life

0:29:54 > 0:29:56to be able to move on to the next stage.

0:29:56 > 0:30:00And do you get involved in employment opportunities for him?

0:30:00 > 0:30:04Our job is to help Jordan with whatever his goals are.

0:30:04 > 0:30:07So, if that's to get work, then that's what we can work on.

0:30:07 > 0:30:10We start with the outcome, and then we just work towards that outcome.

0:30:10 > 0:30:14Whatever we have to do along the road might be different for every person

0:30:14 > 0:30:16and it might change with Jordan a thousand times

0:30:16 > 0:30:19but you've always got that goal in mind, that outcome.

0:30:19 > 0:30:23It all sounds really positive, but Jason has one final question.

0:30:23 > 0:30:26Would youse assist him in getting Jordan a girlfriend?

0:30:26 > 0:30:29That'd be easy, I reckon.

0:30:29 > 0:30:31No? No. No, thank you.

0:30:31 > 0:30:35We might have a conversation without Mum around, eh?

0:30:35 > 0:30:37THEY LAUGH

0:30:38 > 0:30:42It's been a useful experience for Jason and Angie

0:30:42 > 0:30:44but have they heard what they needed to hear?

0:30:44 > 0:30:46I was really impressed with the centre

0:30:46 > 0:30:49and what they've got to offer children like Jordan.

0:30:49 > 0:30:52I actually believe that what they're trying to promote,

0:30:52 > 0:30:54they really do promote it

0:30:54 > 0:30:57- and I think Jordan would really benefit.- I feel a lot better.

0:30:57 > 0:31:04I feel a lot more confident from just one association that we've spoke to.

0:31:04 > 0:31:06I think Jordan would excel.

0:31:06 > 0:31:09That seems to have allayed Angie's worries

0:31:09 > 0:31:14and has helped bring Jason's Australian dream one step closer.

0:31:14 > 0:31:17But does life down under hold enough for all the Buchanans?

0:31:22 > 0:31:25Today, they're spending the morning at Dreamworld.

0:31:25 > 0:31:29It's a wildlife and adventure park just outside Brisbane.

0:31:29 > 0:31:33This is Jason's final chance to sway everyone towards emigrating.

0:31:38 > 0:31:41He's got the same size of feet as you, Jordy, look.

0:31:41 > 0:31:43SHE LAUGHS

0:31:43 > 0:31:46This is what it's all about, especially for the kids.

0:31:46 > 0:31:52First time Jay, Jordan and Sophie have seen any kangaroos, crocodiles,

0:31:52 > 0:31:54things like that, so... Yeah, it's good.

0:31:54 > 0:31:58However, he's very aware that even though he's persuaded Sophie

0:31:58 > 0:32:02to make this trip to Australia, there's still a long way to go.

0:32:02 > 0:32:05Sophie, she said that she's devastated because she, obviously,

0:32:05 > 0:32:08has to leave her dad, stepmum, sisters and the rest of the family

0:32:08 > 0:32:10and I think that's on her mind.

0:32:11 > 0:32:15I do feel really guilty. I feel really...

0:32:15 > 0:32:18I feel like I shouldn't enjoy myself over here

0:32:18 > 0:32:20but I can't really help it, I suppose.

0:32:20 > 0:32:23But it seems the simple pleasures of life down under

0:32:23 > 0:32:25are winning her over.

0:32:25 > 0:32:28This is the first time I've ever seen a kangaroo

0:32:28 > 0:32:32and now I'm feeding it, and I think if I was to move to Australia,

0:32:32 > 0:32:35like, this makes me motivated even more to go to Australia

0:32:35 > 0:32:40because it's a once-in-a-lifetime chance to feed a kangaroo.

0:32:40 > 0:32:44If we lived over here, we'd be doing this every weekend.

0:32:44 > 0:32:45I think it's brilliant.

0:32:45 > 0:32:50And it's not just Sophie who's enjoying this trip.

0:32:50 > 0:32:51- I've got it.- Yeah.

0:32:51 > 0:32:54< Big smiles. Oh, Jay's kissing that.

0:32:56 > 0:32:58This is the kind of thing that we would like to do more of.

0:32:58 > 0:33:03But, obviously, the weather back home... You can't.

0:33:03 > 0:33:05There's no enjoyment out of it.

0:33:05 > 0:33:09But when it's...kinda even just like this, it's nice.

0:33:09 > 0:33:13It was always me that had the doubts, but I'm enjoying it.

0:33:15 > 0:33:18I wasn't looking and picked it up. "We'll just take it off her..."

0:33:18 > 0:33:20- It was fantabulous.- Amazing.

0:33:20 > 0:33:24- It felt like...- Heavy. Slimy.- I had its face, Mum, you had its bum.

0:33:24 > 0:33:28- I had this...- It was squeezing. - Oh, yuck.

0:33:28 > 0:33:30It was like that, wasn't it?

0:33:30 > 0:33:32So, after a packed morning,

0:33:32 > 0:33:36have they got into the swing of the Australian lifestyle?

0:33:36 > 0:33:37It's time to vote.

0:33:38 > 0:33:40We've had a great day

0:33:40 > 0:33:44and we've experienced things that we haven't experienced before,

0:33:44 > 0:33:47like holding the koalas and the kangaroos, and our vote is...

0:33:57 > 0:33:58ALL: Australia.

0:34:04 > 0:34:06Why did you like it?

0:34:06 > 0:34:09- Did you enjoy yourself?- Yeah.- Yeah?

0:34:15 > 0:34:17After an ideal day,

0:34:17 > 0:34:21it's a unanimous vote from the Buchanans for the Aussie lifestyle

0:34:21 > 0:34:25and the whole family seems to have fallen for life down under.

0:34:25 > 0:34:30But there's one more hurdle to face before making their final vote -

0:34:30 > 0:34:33the reality of leaving behind the people they love.

0:34:33 > 0:34:37So, we've prepared some messages from friends and family back home.

0:34:39 > 0:34:41Here we go.

0:34:41 > 0:34:43- ANGIE LAUGHS - I'm crying already.

0:34:43 > 0:34:45- Hi, guys.- Hello, guys.

0:34:45 > 0:34:48I hope youse are having a great time is Australia.

0:34:48 > 0:34:50Angie and Jason are meant for each other.

0:34:50 > 0:34:52They totally bounce off each other...

0:34:52 > 0:34:55'And every weekend they've always got a plan'

0:34:55 > 0:35:00for the kids. Every weekend, no' just the school holidays.

0:35:00 > 0:35:03'And they're lovely kids,'

0:35:03 > 0:35:04and I love them to bits.

0:35:04 > 0:35:07'I'm going to miss her.'

0:35:07 > 0:35:09It's going to just...

0:35:09 > 0:35:12break my heart to say goodbye to them.

0:35:13 > 0:35:15If youse decide to move to Australia,

0:35:15 > 0:35:16I will miss you, like, loads,

0:35:16 > 0:35:19cos we've been friends for so many years and, like,

0:35:19 > 0:35:20all the stuff we've been through,

0:35:20 > 0:35:24'all the laughs and all the sad bits that we've had,

0:35:24 > 0:35:27'I'm going to really miss them all, and I'll really miss you, too.'

0:35:27 > 0:35:28'If youse do decide to go,'

0:35:28 > 0:35:33it's going to rip us up a bit, because you're my wee sister

0:35:33 > 0:35:38'my nephew, my niece, it's just going to, kind of, rip us up a little bit.'

0:35:38 > 0:35:41'Well, I think...'

0:35:41 > 0:35:42they're doing the right thing.

0:35:42 > 0:35:45'I know for a fact he loves me to bits.

0:35:45 > 0:35:50'As long as you're happy, that's all that matters.'

0:35:50 > 0:35:54Jason, I've always said to you, if an opportunity comes up,

0:35:54 > 0:35:56in any way, go for it.

0:35:56 > 0:36:00And I still say go for it. I think it's the best decision

0:36:00 > 0:36:04'the two of youse could make. For the family and youse.'

0:36:07 > 0:36:09You all right? Want a cuddle?

0:36:12 > 0:36:14You, move over.

0:36:17 > 0:36:19Do you want a cuddle, Jordy?

0:36:20 > 0:36:23SOPHIE CRIES

0:36:25 > 0:36:29- It's no' all fun, is it? - Wasn't very nice.

0:36:30 > 0:36:31Wasn't nice at all.

0:36:31 > 0:36:34It wasn't nice that people are going to love you and miss you?

0:36:34 > 0:36:37- Of course it's nice. - No it isn't, it's a bit...

0:36:37 > 0:36:40People giving you support to have a better life.

0:36:40 > 0:36:43I never heard one person there saying, "Don't do it."

0:36:43 > 0:36:46- I know, but...- You know?

0:36:46 > 0:36:51It has been made a lot more real, that we might actually go.

0:36:54 > 0:36:57Just need to wait and see.

0:37:00 > 0:37:03How're you? Are you all right?

0:37:04 > 0:37:06Jordan's like that, "What's the fuss?"

0:37:08 > 0:37:12Seeing messages from home was a painful experience,

0:37:12 > 0:37:14especially for Angie and Sophie,

0:37:14 > 0:37:18and having fallen for Australia during the last seven days,

0:37:18 > 0:37:21has this has put the move back in the balance?

0:37:21 > 0:37:23I've always been the one driving this

0:37:23 > 0:37:27but it's been pretty overwhelming, this week,

0:37:27 > 0:37:31thinking, you know, reality's starting to kick in.

0:37:31 > 0:37:33And, obviously, I'm leaving my mum,

0:37:33 > 0:37:39um...which is going to be tough, especially at the age she's at.

0:37:39 > 0:37:41Yeah, a lot to think about, to be honest.

0:37:41 > 0:37:44For Angie, the week has shown her

0:37:44 > 0:37:46what Australia could mean for Jordan.

0:37:46 > 0:37:49In the last few days, I mean, Jordan's just excelled

0:37:49 > 0:37:52in his personality, in talking to people, and just...

0:37:56 > 0:38:00He's just fascinated with what's going on round about him

0:38:00 > 0:38:02and it's great.

0:38:02 > 0:38:06But she knows the final decision is going to be far from simple.

0:38:06 > 0:38:12This week's experience has, kind of, turned everybody's life upside down.

0:38:12 > 0:38:14From a family's point of view,

0:38:14 > 0:38:16this is going to be one of the toughest decisions

0:38:16 > 0:38:20we've got to make, because it's not just me and Jason's choice.

0:38:21 > 0:38:26And Sophie's choice about her future has no easy answer.

0:38:26 > 0:38:29I suppose I'm a bit torn, right now,

0:38:29 > 0:38:33between going home and staying here.

0:38:33 > 0:38:37I think just leaving your family and your friends is just horrible.

0:38:37 > 0:38:41Just for the better lifestyle, it's just...

0:38:41 > 0:38:43horrible.

0:38:43 > 0:38:44I suppose either...

0:38:44 > 0:38:48One way or another, one parent's going to be heartbroke.

0:38:48 > 0:38:53Now, it's time for the Buchanans to make their final vote.

0:38:53 > 0:38:57So, it's been a great week. Lot's of new experiences,

0:38:57 > 0:38:59loads of vital information

0:38:59 > 0:39:03and we're now ready to vote, UK or Australia.

0:39:09 > 0:39:10- Australia.- Australia.

0:39:10 > 0:39:13I'm not sure.

0:39:15 > 0:39:18- No surprise there, then.- Mmm-hmm.

0:39:18 > 0:39:21What did you pick, Jord? Well done.

0:39:22 > 0:39:25Four out of five ain't bad.

0:39:25 > 0:39:28Having faced the ups and downs of life in Australia,

0:39:28 > 0:39:32it seems the move isn't quite in the bag.

0:39:39 > 0:39:41After a week to remember,

0:39:41 > 0:39:46the Buchanans seemed in touching distance of their Australian dream

0:39:46 > 0:39:51but with Sophie undecided, their future hung in the balance.

0:39:51 > 0:39:53They've been back, now, for a couple of weeks

0:39:53 > 0:39:57and I've come to find out if anything has changed since then.

0:39:58 > 0:40:01First off, I want to catch up with Sophie.

0:40:01 > 0:40:03So, Sophie. For you, it is different

0:40:03 > 0:40:08because you do have your dad back in Scotland with your stepmum

0:40:08 > 0:40:11and your sisters as well, who I know you're very close to.

0:40:11 > 0:40:15- It hasn't been easy, has it? - No, it hasn't been easy at all.

0:40:15 > 0:40:19It's horrible for me having to decide if I should leave them

0:40:19 > 0:40:21or leave my other family, and it's just...

0:40:21 > 0:40:23just horrible thinking about it.

0:40:23 > 0:40:25It did make me feel really guilty,

0:40:25 > 0:40:29but then I think I would benefit a lot from going over there.

0:40:29 > 0:40:31I think I need to be a bit selfish about it

0:40:31 > 0:40:34and think about what would benefit me

0:40:34 > 0:40:36and, like, my family, my brothers

0:40:36 > 0:40:41and I think there's loads of opportunities to come back here

0:40:41 > 0:40:43and see them once or twice a year.

0:40:43 > 0:40:45- Of course. - Since I've been back, they're like,

0:40:45 > 0:40:49- "No, you should go cos it's better." - You've got their blessing.- Yeah.

0:40:49 > 0:40:51Which is so, so important.

0:40:51 > 0:40:55So, if I gave you a flag now, which way would you vote?

0:40:55 > 0:40:57I think I would vote Australia.

0:40:57 > 0:40:59- Yeah?- Yeah.

0:40:59 > 0:41:02If your mum and stepdad could hear you now, they'd be cheering.

0:41:02 > 0:41:06And speaking of Angie and Jason, they have some news too.

0:41:06 > 0:41:09But this time, it's not been so positive.

0:41:09 > 0:41:11- There's been a few things popped up that...- Setbacks.

0:41:11 > 0:41:15..maybe we were slightly naive before we went.

0:41:15 > 0:41:16Such as...?

0:41:16 > 0:41:19Well, the biggest thing that we overlooked

0:41:19 > 0:41:21- was the concerns of getting a visa. - For Jordan.

0:41:21 > 0:41:24- Right.- And, to cut a long story short,

0:41:24 > 0:41:27it seems it's going to be very, very difficult

0:41:27 > 0:41:32to obtain a visa for Jordan due to his learning difficulties.

0:41:32 > 0:41:36But on the flip side of that, that's highlighted some positive things

0:41:36 > 0:41:38that we need to do with Jordan.

0:41:38 > 0:41:41In a nutshell, what are you trying to achieve with Jordan,

0:41:41 > 0:41:43so that the visa might be granted?

0:41:43 > 0:41:46In terms of what the Australian government look at,

0:41:46 > 0:41:49if anything was to happen to myself or Angie when we were in Australia,

0:41:49 > 0:41:52the first question the Australian government are going to ask is,

0:41:52 > 0:41:56- "Could Jordan live independently?" - Right.

0:41:56 > 0:41:58So, we're striving now to push him forward

0:41:58 > 0:42:00to do the daily living skills,

0:42:00 > 0:42:02giving him the responsibility

0:42:02 > 0:42:06of making food, washing, domestic stuff, so Jordan knows

0:42:06 > 0:42:10that for him to go to Australia he needs to work hard, too.

0:42:10 > 0:42:13We've always believed that Jordan has the potential

0:42:13 > 0:42:16to live independently in the future and things like that,

0:42:16 > 0:42:20- so this has maybe been a big push for us.- Push for us, yeah.

0:42:20 > 0:42:23So, it is difficult...

0:42:23 > 0:42:27We've got to be honest, to get a visa for someone like Jordan

0:42:27 > 0:42:30- but you think you can overcome that. - Yeah, absolutely.

0:42:30 > 0:42:33We still firmly believe we've got a chance of getting to Australia.

0:42:33 > 0:42:35We would like to be in Australia by next summer.

0:42:35 > 0:42:38How fantastic. Our summer, their winter

0:42:38 > 0:42:42and it'll still be nicer than in the UK, won't it?

0:42:42 > 0:42:45- So, exciting times ahead? - Definitely.

0:42:45 > 0:42:48- I really hope it works out for you. - Thank you.- Thank you.

0:42:52 > 0:42:56Well, fantastic news. It's unanimous.

0:42:56 > 0:42:59The Buchanan family want to move to Australia

0:42:59 > 0:43:01and that includes Sophie.

0:43:01 > 0:43:05Now, there's still some visa issues to sort out, but, all going well,

0:43:05 > 0:43:09they're going to be starting a new life in Australia very soon.
