0:00:02 > 0:00:05If you had built a happy and successful life for your family,

0:00:05 > 0:00:08would you be willing to set aside all your doubts

0:00:08 > 0:00:10and start over on the other side of the world?

0:00:10 > 0:00:14Claire Richards wants to follow her brother to New Zealand.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17It's for me as well but it's for them, it's for their futures.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20But her husband Paul has serious doubts.

0:00:20 > 0:00:23If we were to come here we're giving up an awful lot.

0:00:23 > 0:00:25And after a week of highs...

0:00:25 > 0:00:26SHE GASPS Look!

0:00:26 > 0:00:27Yeah, fair dos.

0:00:27 > 0:00:31..and lows, they'll have to make a choice that could leave

0:00:31 > 0:00:32someone broken-hearted.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35If he turns round and says it's an absolute, definite no,

0:00:35 > 0:00:37I think I'd be absolutely...

0:00:37 > 0:00:39Well, I'd be gutted, I suppose.

0:00:39 > 0:00:43I am honestly, honestly undecided on what to do at this moment in time.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46I don't know how I'm going to make the decision.

0:01:08 > 0:01:12For thousands of Brits every year, New Zealand offers the dream

0:01:12 > 0:01:16of an ideal life set amongst epic surroundings.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19However, that dream doesn't always work out

0:01:19 > 0:01:24and for many new arrivals, their journey could end right back where it started.

0:01:25 > 0:01:26Over the next few days,

0:01:26 > 0:01:30the Richards family will get a taste of everyday life in New Zealand.

0:01:30 > 0:01:31At the end of it,

0:01:31 > 0:01:34they'll face one of the biggest decisions of their lives -

0:01:34 > 0:01:38whether to stay in the UK or to make the move down under for good.

0:01:39 > 0:01:43After crossing three continents, flying 11,000 miles

0:01:43 > 0:01:46and facing 24 hours of in-flight movies,

0:01:46 > 0:01:48the Richards arrive in Auckland.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54On hand to meet them is a welcoming committee in the shape

0:01:54 > 0:01:58of Claire's brother and his family, who moved out here nine years ago.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04It's a reminder of what this move is all about.

0:02:05 > 0:02:09It was lovely to see my brother, I haven't seen him for over a year

0:02:09 > 0:02:11and I haven't seen my nieces in nearly two years,

0:02:11 > 0:02:13so that's really lovely.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16I'm going to embrace the situation

0:02:16 > 0:02:19and take that opportunity to have a look at what working here

0:02:19 > 0:02:22and living here has to offer for us and the family.

0:02:22 > 0:02:24We'll wait for the light bulb moment with Paul

0:02:24 > 0:02:27- when it all comes on and he thinks, "Yay!"- We'll see.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30I didn't like the aeroplane food.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32I'm quite excited about the week.

0:02:37 > 0:02:38Back in the UK,

0:02:38 > 0:02:42the Richards live in the town of Penkridge in Staffordshire.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48They are Paul, an IT project manager,

0:02:48 > 0:02:51Claire, a part-time primary school teacher,

0:02:51 > 0:02:52and their three daughters,

0:02:52 > 0:02:54nine-year-old Elise,

0:02:54 > 0:02:56seven-year-old Isabella,

0:02:56 > 0:02:58and Francesca, who is five.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04New Zealand has been on Claire's mind since 2003,

0:03:04 > 0:03:08when her brother and his family first made the move.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10After spending Christmas with them three years ago,

0:03:10 > 0:03:14she began to wonder if emigrating could be a real possibility.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18I've always wanted to go out there,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20partly because of my brother being there.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23And my mum and dad have been every year since he's been,

0:03:23 > 0:03:24and that's all they talk about,

0:03:24 > 0:03:28how fantastic it is, and for the children and the way of life.

0:03:28 > 0:03:31And then when we went, we did see that side of it.

0:03:31 > 0:03:35But all the time you are aware that you're on holiday

0:03:35 > 0:03:39and therefore you see it through holiday glasses and you see it as...

0:03:39 > 0:03:41Well, you're not in the practicalities of it all,

0:03:41 > 0:03:44going to work and those sorts of things.

0:03:44 > 0:03:49But from what I did see of it, it is a fantastic place.

0:03:49 > 0:03:52That's my honest opinion on it.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55Which may be different to yours, probably.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57Moving down under may be Claire's dream,

0:03:57 > 0:04:00but convincing Paul to share it is not easy matter.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05In our relationship, I would say I'm the risk-adverse person

0:04:05 > 0:04:08and I like to know what's around the corner.

0:04:08 > 0:04:10I like to know what's going to happen

0:04:10 > 0:04:13and moving to New Zealand, the reality is, for me,

0:04:13 > 0:04:18it's a big change in the way that I conduct my life in terms of giving up everything

0:04:18 > 0:04:20in that manner.

0:04:20 > 0:04:23Paul's also the main bread winner, and New Zealand would mean

0:04:23 > 0:04:28giving up a career he loves and the security it provides for his family.

0:04:28 > 0:04:29One of the things, for me,

0:04:29 > 0:04:33is I'll be giving up a good job to go and effectively start again.

0:04:34 > 0:04:38And that's a big, big risk, especially in today's climate.

0:04:38 > 0:04:41But it isn't just finances that worry him.

0:04:41 > 0:04:46It takes time to build up friendships. And, you know, I'm 42.

0:04:46 > 0:04:50I'm 42 now, and Claire's no spring chicken herself.

0:04:50 > 0:04:53Right? I just think to start again and get new friends

0:04:53 > 0:04:57like the friends that we have here, is a tall task.

0:04:58 > 0:05:01Saying goodbye to friends may be hard enough.

0:05:01 > 0:05:04But for Paul, there's an even bigger price to emigrating.

0:05:04 > 0:05:08Leaving family, it's going to be extremely difficult.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11I'm not really an emotional person but that quite...

0:05:13 > 0:05:14It's quite cutting.

0:05:15 > 0:05:19To think that, to think that something could happen

0:05:19 > 0:05:23and I couldn't be there to help is...

0:05:23 > 0:05:24very daunting.

0:05:29 > 0:05:32However, Claire's confident that the benefits of moving could offer

0:05:32 > 0:05:34the family a better future.

0:05:34 > 0:05:37I'm not naive enough to believe that the grass is always greener

0:05:37 > 0:05:40but I do think we ought to go and find out if it is.

0:05:40 > 0:05:42If not just for us, for the girls as well

0:05:42 > 0:05:44so they get that life experience.

0:05:44 > 0:05:49And even the girls can see plenty to look forward to in New Zealand.

0:05:49 > 0:05:52I'm excited cos my cousins live there

0:05:52 > 0:05:56and it's fun there and nice and hot.

0:05:56 > 0:06:00I'm excited cos I love my cousins.

0:06:00 > 0:06:05It will be nice to go to New Zealand because it will be a change.

0:06:05 > 0:06:10But I do like it in England because there's lots of...

0:06:10 > 0:06:13I know everywhere and stuff. So...

0:06:14 > 0:06:17Elise is also a keen horse rider

0:06:17 > 0:06:20and moving down under could make another dream come true.

0:06:22 > 0:06:26Mum, can we have a horse again in New Zealand?

0:06:26 > 0:06:29I don't know about that, Elise, we'll have to see what it's like, won't we?

0:06:29 > 0:06:33For Claire, it's a chance to enjoy the lifestyle

0:06:33 > 0:06:36that's most appealing about New Zealand.

0:06:36 > 0:06:40I think they'd have a lot more of an outdoor life.

0:06:40 > 0:06:42More opportunities to do...

0:06:42 > 0:06:46Elise would love it, because Elise loves...

0:06:46 > 0:06:49They love being outside, don't they? They do.

0:06:49 > 0:06:53And as soon as the weather starts to improve, they want to go out.

0:06:53 > 0:06:56But we haven't been to New Zealand when it's been winter,

0:06:56 > 0:06:57we went when it was sunny.

0:06:57 > 0:07:00Very sunny, in the summer.

0:07:00 > 0:07:02So, knowing what's at stake,

0:07:02 > 0:07:06is Paul prepared to turn his life upside-down for Claire?

0:07:06 > 0:07:11I'm happy to try and give it a go on behalf of Claire and the family.

0:07:11 > 0:07:13If Paul was a big no and he didn't want to do it,

0:07:13 > 0:07:15then I would be devastated.

0:07:15 > 0:07:17I'm apprehensive about it.

0:07:17 > 0:07:23We'll go out there and see what it has, make a more educated judgement.

0:07:23 > 0:07:28If we don't try this, if we don't at least, you know, go for it,

0:07:28 > 0:07:32we're going to be sitting here in five years, less maybe,

0:07:32 > 0:07:36thinking, "We should have done, we should have at least had a try."

0:07:36 > 0:07:41Claire has her work well and truly cut out in the week ahead.

0:07:41 > 0:07:45It'll be a tough task convincing Paul that New Zealand is a gamble worth taking.

0:07:45 > 0:07:48And with just a few days to do it in,

0:07:48 > 0:07:50she could be facing the end of her dream.

0:07:50 > 0:07:52The Richards are spending their week

0:07:52 > 0:07:55in Auckland, New Zealand's largest city.

0:07:55 > 0:07:59With a growing economy and plenty of wide-open spaces nearby,

0:07:59 > 0:08:03it should offer a good mix of big city bustle and room to relax.

0:08:04 > 0:08:07They're staying in Torbay on the north shore,

0:08:07 > 0:08:09an up-and-coming area popular with families.

0:08:11 > 0:08:14Home is a three-bedroom clapboard house.

0:08:14 > 0:08:17Hopefully it'll get the week off to a good start.

0:08:20 > 0:08:22Yeah, it's perfect for the week.

0:08:22 > 0:08:25You've got a good view, haven't you?

0:08:25 > 0:08:29That is very happy looking girls, but Claire isn't so relaxed.

0:08:29 > 0:08:34I'm a bit anxious that Paul still won't realise,

0:08:34 > 0:08:38won't see what I can see, I suppose.

0:08:38 > 0:08:41At the end of the week, my head might tell me

0:08:41 > 0:08:43something different to what it's telling me now.

0:08:43 > 0:08:45Because now I'm still in the..

0:08:45 > 0:08:49If we were to come here, we're giving up an awful lot.

0:08:57 > 0:09:01Back home, the Richards own a large four-bedroom house in Penkridge.

0:09:01 > 0:09:06They believe it's worth around £245,000.

0:09:06 > 0:09:09They hope to find a home of equal value down under,

0:09:09 > 0:09:12and Paul has a few extras on his wish list too.

0:09:12 > 0:09:14Ideally, in a new property, I would like a place that

0:09:14 > 0:09:17I could call my own, in which I could set up an office.

0:09:17 > 0:09:20I'd like it to be... have more land, really.

0:09:20 > 0:09:24The girls are at an age now where they must have their own bedroom.

0:09:24 > 0:09:27And if we had a paddock for a horse, that would be even better.

0:09:29 > 0:09:33Today, we'll give the Richards a taste of Auckland's property market.

0:09:33 > 0:09:37We'll show them three options based on what they want

0:09:37 > 0:09:40from their ideal home and what they can afford.

0:09:40 > 0:09:42After seeing for themselves what's on offer,

0:09:42 > 0:09:45they will find out how much each house costs.

0:09:45 > 0:09:49Their first stop is in the Stanmore Bay area,

0:09:49 > 0:09:5130 miles north of the city centre.

0:09:51 > 0:09:54It would mean a 45-minute commute for Paul,

0:09:54 > 0:09:58but it's located in a quiet backwater surrounded by coastline,

0:09:58 > 0:10:02ideal for the outdoor life Claire is hoping for.

0:10:02 > 0:10:04This three-bedroom house has a terrace and gardens,

0:10:04 > 0:10:07so the residents can enjoy the sea views.

0:10:07 > 0:10:09But will it make a splash with the Richards?

0:10:11 > 0:10:14- Very nice. I'll take my sunglasses off.- Mummy...

0:10:14 > 0:10:16Nice.

0:10:16 > 0:10:19It is nice, look at your view from your lounge window!

0:10:19 > 0:10:23It's quite comparable in size to our living room back in the UK,

0:10:23 > 0:10:28- isn't it?- Yeah.- I wouldn't say it was any smaller or any bigger.

0:10:28 > 0:10:30That's a cautious start from Paul.

0:10:30 > 0:10:32Can the kitchen heat things up a little?

0:10:32 > 0:10:35Do you think it would be big enough for you, Claire?

0:10:35 > 0:10:38I don't think this would be big enough for me, no, not the kitchen.

0:10:38 > 0:10:40Er, perhaps not.

0:10:40 > 0:10:44While the girls test out the exterior features and fittings,

0:10:44 > 0:10:46mum and dad continue with the tour.

0:10:46 > 0:10:49Let's have a look what's in this one. Oh, it's an office.

0:10:49 > 0:10:51- That's all right.- Yeah.

0:10:51 > 0:10:52Pretty a decent sized one.

0:10:52 > 0:10:55Good office, that's what you want, an office.

0:10:55 > 0:10:58But, knowing you, it will become office-cum-junk room.

0:10:58 > 0:11:01Having an office would be a plus for Paul,

0:11:01 > 0:11:06but with only three bedrooms available, he may have a fight on his hands to keep it.

0:11:06 > 0:11:09These are comparable to the size of bedrooms the girls have got now.

0:11:09 > 0:11:12Let's have a look in here. This has got to be the bathroom.

0:11:12 > 0:11:14- I would think so. - Process of elimination.

0:11:14 > 0:11:16- Hmm.- OK.

0:11:16 > 0:11:19- It's nice, though.- That's got to be a bedroom, hasn't it?

0:11:19 > 0:11:21Oh, my life!

0:11:21 > 0:11:23SHE GASPS

0:11:23 > 0:11:26- I wasn't expecting this.- It's more of a formal lounge, isn't it?

0:11:26 > 0:11:28Oh, this is lovely.

0:11:28 > 0:11:31The open-plan sitting room would be ideal for a large family,

0:11:31 > 0:11:35- which just leaves the final bedroom to explore.- Master bedroom, Claire.

0:11:35 > 0:11:38Yeah. It's nice and bright.

0:11:38 > 0:11:40Nice sized. Is this en suite?

0:11:40 > 0:11:43I don't know, I hope so. Or is it just a cupboard?

0:11:43 > 0:11:44Oh, no!

0:11:44 > 0:11:46No? What is it?!

0:11:46 > 0:11:50SHE GASPS Oh! A walk-in wardrobe.

0:11:50 > 0:11:53- Just what you've always wanted.- Yes.

0:11:53 > 0:11:56- You don't get that in Penkridge.- No!

0:11:56 > 0:12:00The views may be to die for and the garden a big hit with the girls,

0:12:00 > 0:12:03but can they make up for a lack of bedrooms in this house?

0:12:03 > 0:12:08And more importantly, is it within their £245,000 budget?

0:12:09 > 0:12:12- 450.- 450, and I'm going for 500.

0:12:14 > 0:12:18£239,000. 495,000.

0:12:18 > 0:12:21So I was the closest.

0:12:21 > 0:12:25- Yeah, fair dos. - Round one to me, I'd say.

0:12:25 > 0:12:27I'm pleased with that, aren't you?

0:12:27 > 0:12:31- That's...- Yeah.- ..a pleasant price. - Comfortable with it.- Pleasant price.

0:12:31 > 0:12:33OK.

0:12:35 > 0:12:39It looks like a win on points for Claire after the first house,

0:12:39 > 0:12:43but without that fourth bedroom it failed to deliver the knockout blow.

0:12:43 > 0:12:47So can the second property offer more without a big jump in price?

0:12:47 > 0:12:52It's in Browns Bay, an area popular with Brits emigrating to enjoy

0:12:52 > 0:12:55the nearby surfing beaches. As a new build,

0:12:55 > 0:12:58it's closer in style to the Richards' current home,

0:12:58 > 0:13:00but will it impress?

0:13:00 > 0:13:04- I'm liking that. I'm liking that. Modern.- Are you?- Yeah.

0:13:04 > 0:13:08I don't know what I think actually, at the moment.

0:13:08 > 0:13:09I don't know.

0:13:09 > 0:13:11Well, I think that's ALMOST a yes.

0:13:11 > 0:13:16- Go on then, let's look and see. - It's like Christmas!- Like Christmas?

0:13:16 > 0:13:18- Oh.- It's a garage.

0:13:18 > 0:13:22You could have this as where somebody stops, couldn't you?

0:13:22 > 0:13:25What, in the garage? Where would you put the boat?

0:13:25 > 0:13:28I don't know. The boat or the horses!

0:13:28 > 0:13:32Next to the garage is the first downstairs bedroom.

0:13:32 > 0:13:34It's not a main bedroom, is it? It's like a guestroom.

0:13:34 > 0:13:38No, but again, it could be guest... guest quarters.

0:13:39 > 0:13:41Oh.

0:13:41 > 0:13:43The second comes equipped with its own en suite,

0:13:43 > 0:13:45but it's not clear who for.

0:13:45 > 0:13:47I'm just intrigued at the moment to see

0:13:47 > 0:13:53whether this is a guest area or actually the master bedroom.

0:13:53 > 0:13:54Let's find out.

0:13:56 > 0:14:00This is a topsy-turvy home, with living space on the first floor.

0:14:00 > 0:14:06This is nice. So, main living room and this is obviously your veranda.

0:14:06 > 0:14:09Yeah. You can't see the beach at all, can you? Or the sea.

0:14:09 > 0:14:12You can see the sea a little bit through that gap,

0:14:12 > 0:14:15but it's nothing compared to what the other one was like.

0:14:15 > 0:14:16Without the wow factor,

0:14:16 > 0:14:19this house is starting to look decidedly undercooked.

0:14:19 > 0:14:22- Fairly nice, big kitchen, isn't it? - Yeah, it is actually.

0:14:22 > 0:14:28- No, I can see the potential in it, it needs a bit of a face lift.- Clean.

0:14:28 > 0:14:30The toilet is horrible.

0:14:31 > 0:14:33There's no shortage of critics.

0:14:33 > 0:14:35I wouldn't want to...

0:14:37 > 0:14:40..to sleep in here, personally, and wake up...

0:14:40 > 0:14:45Well, no, it's not an offensive view, Paul. It's just nothing of...

0:14:45 > 0:14:48Doesn't grab you, but it's not offensive in any way,

0:14:48 > 0:14:49it's not like a wall or something.

0:14:49 > 0:14:53Yeah, I'm just not getting I'd want to move to the other side

0:14:53 > 0:14:55- of the world to move into this property.- No.

0:14:55 > 0:14:57Paul may have hit the nail on the head.

0:14:57 > 0:15:00Despite having the fourth bedroom they need,

0:15:00 > 0:15:02this house simply hasn't impressed.

0:15:02 > 0:15:05And given that it's closer to the city than the first,

0:15:05 > 0:15:09will its price be the final nail in its coffin?

0:15:09 > 0:15:11I'll be surprised if...

0:15:11 > 0:15:17as a property, if this is more than 400,000.

0:15:17 > 0:15:19Shall we see how much it is worth?

0:15:20 > 0:15:24- Yeah?- Yeah. OK.- Go on, you do it.

0:15:24 > 0:15:25SHE GASPS

0:15:25 > 0:15:28Oh, my gosh. There you go.

0:15:28 > 0:15:30Priced out of it.

0:15:30 > 0:15:33- £279,000.- Pounds.

0:15:33 > 0:15:37579,000.

0:15:37 > 0:15:41- That's surprised me. I wouldn't pay £280,000 for this.- No.

0:15:43 > 0:15:46- So, it's quite disappointing, really.- Yeah.

0:15:48 > 0:15:51It is. You're paying for the postcode, aren't you?

0:15:52 > 0:15:57This house may be a des res but at £30,000 over budget,

0:15:57 > 0:16:00it's put a big dent in Claire's hopes of moving.

0:16:00 > 0:16:03Heading further from the city should give the Richards

0:16:03 > 0:16:06more of the indoor and outdoor space they're looking for.

0:16:08 > 0:16:10The last stop is in Waimauku,

0:16:10 > 0:16:13just under 20 miles northwest of the city.

0:16:13 > 0:16:17It's a rural area with a coastline facing the Tasman Sea.

0:16:19 > 0:16:22This modern bungalow comes with plenty of land,

0:16:22 > 0:16:24perhaps even enough for a paddock.

0:16:24 > 0:16:27But can it entice Paul away from the city?

0:16:27 > 0:16:31- Look at this forecourt. - Oh, wow, look at that.

0:16:31 > 0:16:33Oh, look at that veranda!

0:16:33 > 0:16:35Oh, rabbits! And guinea pigs!

0:16:35 > 0:16:39- Claire, look at this, though, in front.- Aw!

0:16:39 > 0:16:41SHE GASPS Look!

0:16:41 > 0:16:45- Wow!- Girls, look this side. - Look, sheep!

0:16:45 > 0:16:47Oh, and hens!

0:16:47 > 0:16:50- We'll be able to have a horse. - Well, I don't know about a horse.

0:16:50 > 0:16:54- You can have a few old nags. - A few old nags! I love it.

0:16:54 > 0:16:56- It's lovely. - It's very nice. Very impressive.

0:16:56 > 0:17:01- I could actually see us living here, to be honest.- Big garage.- Yeah.

0:17:01 > 0:17:04Cos I'd need a big lawnmower. Let's go and have a look inside now.

0:17:04 > 0:17:06See if it's as good inside as outside.

0:17:06 > 0:17:09See if it holds the promise that the outside holds.

0:17:10 > 0:17:12Wipe your feet.

0:17:15 > 0:17:16Ooh!

0:17:16 > 0:17:19- Oh, the music room.- Yeah.

0:17:19 > 0:17:21Wow. Office, really, isn't it?

0:17:21 > 0:17:23Yeah, that's very nice as well.

0:17:23 > 0:17:25That's a perfect start.

0:17:25 > 0:17:27So, have the Richards arrived at their dream home?

0:17:27 > 0:17:29Ooh, I like it.

0:17:29 > 0:17:31- Oh, yes.- Ooh!

0:17:31 > 0:17:33- Oh, yes.- Wow.

0:17:33 > 0:17:36- I want to live here.- Do you?

0:17:36 > 0:17:39Do you want to move, pack your bags and come and move in?

0:17:40 > 0:17:43This house has left everyone speechless.

0:17:43 > 0:17:45And the tour has hardly even begun.

0:17:45 > 0:17:49I can see myself definitely coming back here of an evening,

0:17:49 > 0:17:51when the sun's shining.

0:17:51 > 0:17:54- Because the kids can be well away, can't they, Claire?- Yeah.

0:17:54 > 0:17:58- Doing their thing.- And feel as though the kids will be safe.

0:17:59 > 0:18:00It's lovely.

0:18:00 > 0:18:04That's exactly the response Claire was hoping for.

0:18:04 > 0:18:05And after two failures,

0:18:05 > 0:18:09this house looks to be just what the family was dreaming of.

0:18:09 > 0:18:12- This must be the master bedroom, I'd say.- This is...

0:18:12 > 0:18:16Look at that for a view out as well. Very nice.

0:18:18 > 0:18:19SHE GASPS

0:18:19 > 0:18:23- Walk-through wardrobe. - It's a walk-in wardrobe!- Yes.- Yeah.

0:18:23 > 0:18:26Shoes all there, yeah.

0:18:26 > 0:18:31- I can't fault it at the moment, there's no negatives, is there?- No.

0:18:31 > 0:18:33Should we go and see what else there is?

0:18:33 > 0:18:36Let's just stay here a little bit.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39Yeah, but there might be other rooms. Bigger rooms.

0:18:39 > 0:18:42Yeah, come on then. Let's go and have a look.

0:18:44 > 0:18:45Oh, it's another bedroom.

0:18:47 > 0:18:51- That's all right. For one of the girls.- Nice size again.

0:18:51 > 0:18:53Could quite easily move in tomorrow.

0:18:55 > 0:18:56Another decent size bedroom.

0:18:56 > 0:19:01- This is the third bedroom. This is a good size as well.- Very impressed.

0:19:01 > 0:19:04- We better go.- Got to stop saying very impressed.- Yeah.

0:19:04 > 0:19:06Every word is impressed.

0:19:07 > 0:19:11I can't wait to find out the price on this!

0:19:11 > 0:19:13This house has impressed on all fronts,

0:19:13 > 0:19:16with its stylish, open-plan design.

0:19:16 > 0:19:19It has plenty of room for everyone indoors and out.

0:19:19 > 0:19:23It's everything the Richards wanted to find in a Kiwi home,

0:19:23 > 0:19:28but can they afford it on their £245,000 budget?

0:19:28 > 0:19:33It's definitely over 600 for me, with all that in mind.

0:19:33 > 0:19:35- So what are you saying?- 625.

0:19:35 > 0:19:39625. I'm going to go higher. 775.

0:19:39 > 0:19:44- That's another 150,000 more than me.- Yes.- OK.

0:19:44 > 0:19:48We ought to have a little money wager.

0:19:48 > 0:19:50- 775.- 625.

0:19:52 > 0:19:55720, 720, dollars.

0:19:55 > 0:19:57I think I'm closest. 720...

0:19:57 > 0:20:01- Well, I'm almost 100 out.- 720,000.

0:20:01 > 0:20:04Which is £347,000.

0:20:06 > 0:20:11But that is a lot of money and it's out of our budget currently.

0:20:11 > 0:20:13But...

0:20:13 > 0:20:16If you compared that to back home.

0:20:16 > 0:20:18What, £347,000, Claire?

0:20:18 > 0:20:21We haven't got. Well, you don't know.

0:20:21 > 0:20:24You don't know cos you don't know what your...

0:20:24 > 0:20:28- job prospects might be. - It's impressive. It's...

0:20:28 > 0:20:30- Food for thought.- Yeah.

0:20:30 > 0:20:32And the Richards have had plenty of it today.

0:20:34 > 0:20:38The first house was big on views but not on bedrooms.

0:20:38 > 0:20:41The second property's postcode may have been right,

0:20:41 > 0:20:43but the price certainly wasn't.

0:20:45 > 0:20:49And the final stop was a genuine Kiwi dream house,

0:20:49 > 0:20:52flooring even Paul despite its heavyweight price tag.

0:20:54 > 0:20:58But has property in Auckland done enough to convince the Richards

0:20:58 > 0:21:00that New Zealand could offer them a home?

0:21:01 > 0:21:04Based on the properties that we've seen today,

0:21:04 > 0:21:06our vote is going to go to...

0:21:16 > 0:21:17..UK!

0:21:17 > 0:21:18New Zealand!

0:21:20 > 0:21:22Lis, why have you made that decision?

0:21:22 > 0:21:25Well, I liked the houses in New Zealand, but...

0:21:27 > 0:21:31..I just think that I prefer the ones in England.

0:21:31 > 0:21:33Right, why have you said that, then?

0:21:33 > 0:21:35Based on what you've seen, why have you said that?

0:21:35 > 0:21:38Based on just the three properties we've seen today,

0:21:38 > 0:21:41I can't say they are better than the ones we get in the UK.

0:21:47 > 0:21:51Their day house hunting was a real eye-opener for the Richards.

0:21:51 > 0:21:56And Paul and Elisa's vote showed Claire she still has a long way to go to win them over.

0:21:56 > 0:22:00Which makes it vital that Auckland can offer Paul his dream job.

0:22:01 > 0:22:05In the UK, Paul is an IT project manager.

0:22:05 > 0:22:09It's a career he loves and can see a future in, at least at home.

0:22:09 > 0:22:12I would like to have the same opportunities that I have here

0:22:12 > 0:22:14to advance that career even further.

0:22:14 > 0:22:17I think if those opportunities weren't available for me,

0:22:17 > 0:22:22then, on a personal basis, I just don't think the move

0:22:22 > 0:22:25would be a thing for me.

0:22:25 > 0:22:28But there is one thing New Zealand could tempt him with -

0:22:28 > 0:22:30a better work/life balance.

0:22:30 > 0:22:33I am personally missing out on that, the children are missing out

0:22:33 > 0:22:34on me being around.

0:22:34 > 0:22:37I get to see them for about a half-hour to an hour

0:22:37 > 0:22:40at the end of their day before they go to bed.

0:22:43 > 0:22:46This move could all hinge on what New Zealand's job market

0:22:46 > 0:22:47might have to offer Paul.

0:22:48 > 0:22:52So, he's heading into the city to meet Jonathan Maltby,

0:22:52 > 0:22:54a local IT recruitment expert.

0:22:54 > 0:22:56You've seen my CV.

0:22:56 > 0:22:58What do you think the outlook could be like for me?

0:22:58 > 0:23:01I'll give you a good snapshot of what's going on.

0:23:01 > 0:23:04The companies that we tend to deal with...

0:23:04 > 0:23:07relate more to the people who have come from a technical background,

0:23:07 > 0:23:09they've been a developer, gone through the ranks

0:23:09 > 0:23:12- and they've become a project manager. - That is very good news for me

0:23:12 > 0:23:16because that's the kind of background I currently come from.

0:23:16 > 0:23:19I have left the extreme technical development aspects,

0:23:19 > 0:23:22and moved to that exact area that you're talking about.

0:23:22 > 0:23:24It's a great start.

0:23:24 > 0:23:28Being able to fit into a role he already knows would be ideal.

0:23:28 > 0:23:30Meanwhile, a few miles away,

0:23:30 > 0:23:33Claire and the girls also head off to try something familiar.

0:23:33 > 0:23:35- Claire.- Claire. Hi, Claire.

0:23:35 > 0:23:38Claire and the older girls have ridden before,

0:23:38 > 0:23:41but today is Frankie's first time.

0:23:41 > 0:23:43It's a special treat for everyone.

0:23:43 > 0:23:47I am going to put you on the biggest horse, the best horse we've got.

0:23:50 > 0:23:54- Hold the saddle and pull yourself up. - That's the girl.- That's it. OK.

0:23:55 > 0:23:58Enjoying the outdoors together is one of the big reasons

0:23:58 > 0:24:01Claire is so keen on moving down under.

0:24:01 > 0:24:04But for Paul, there's an important question.

0:24:04 > 0:24:07Could a career in New Zealand offer him the time to join them?

0:24:07 > 0:24:12What is the normal working hours that people tend to work?

0:24:12 > 0:24:15In New Zealand we have quite a not necessarily laid-back,

0:24:15 > 0:24:17but very much an easy-going sort of culture.

0:24:17 > 0:24:20Knock-off time is usually about five.

0:24:20 > 0:24:24In the summertime people tend to leave in the evenings,

0:24:24 > 0:24:28probably 4.30-5, maybe 5.30-6, because we have daylight saving

0:24:28 > 0:24:30and it gets dark at about 8.30-9,

0:24:30 > 0:24:33people can head down to the beach with their families right after work

0:24:33 > 0:24:36and that is a really good atmosphere to be in.

0:24:36 > 0:24:38That all sounds very good.

0:24:38 > 0:24:41That's exactly what I'm trying to get through for the family.

0:24:41 > 0:24:43That's just what Paul had been hoping for.

0:24:43 > 0:24:46So, is life in New Zealand starting to look more appealing?

0:24:46 > 0:24:50Across town, I think the answer is a definite yes.

0:24:50 > 0:24:52We haven't ridden for quite a long time

0:24:52 > 0:24:57and it was just the best experience I think I've had an absolutely ages.

0:24:57 > 0:24:59It was just lovely.

0:24:59 > 0:25:03It was the best horse riding I've ever done, really.

0:25:03 > 0:25:07Well, at the start I was a bit nervous

0:25:07 > 0:25:11and at the end I was happy.

0:25:11 > 0:25:15It was probably the best horse I'd ever been on.

0:25:15 > 0:25:16It was just amazing.

0:25:16 > 0:25:21Just sniffing now because of my allergy to horses, but it was...

0:25:21 > 0:25:25I'd do it again ten times over, it was that lovely, that good.

0:25:25 > 0:25:28Seeing his family happy and being able to share it

0:25:28 > 0:25:30would be priceless for Paul.

0:25:30 > 0:25:34But would that change in work/life balance mean taking a cut in salary?

0:25:34 > 0:25:38What kind of packages do you think would be on offer for myself?

0:25:38 > 0:25:40For someone in a team lead sort of role,

0:25:40 > 0:25:44you're looking at about anywhere between, say, 90 to 110.

0:25:44 > 0:25:47In some cases pushing a little bit higher.

0:25:47 > 0:25:51But that all depends on the structure and the size of the company as well.

0:25:51 > 0:25:55The figures are comparable to what he earns in the UK.

0:25:55 > 0:25:58So has Paul heard enough to convince in New Zealand could offer him

0:25:58 > 0:26:01a career worth leaving home for?

0:26:01 > 0:26:04Given the discussion I've had today about work opportunities

0:26:04 > 0:26:08in New Zealand and relevant packages, my vote goes to...

0:26:14 > 0:26:15..New Zealand.

0:26:18 > 0:26:22I managed to find out that there appears to be an awful lot

0:26:22 > 0:26:23of opportunities available.

0:26:23 > 0:26:28But I think one of the clinchers is the fact of the laid-back

0:26:28 > 0:26:31attitude too, there's much more of a focus on getting the job done

0:26:31 > 0:26:34but the family aspect is also important as well.

0:26:34 > 0:26:39Let's just say I think it's one more step closer to

0:26:39 > 0:26:41the possibility of moving to Auckland.

0:26:41 > 0:26:44I think that's a cautious but happy Paul.

0:26:44 > 0:26:45And back at the house,

0:26:45 > 0:26:48the girls have a request after their day out.

0:26:48 > 0:26:50So now we want a horse.

0:26:50 > 0:26:53- Do you?- So can you buy us one?

0:26:53 > 0:26:57How do you feel about moving to New Zealand now then, Paul?

0:26:57 > 0:27:01Well, today has put one step in the, let's just say,

0:27:01 > 0:27:02- right direction.- Right direction.

0:27:02 > 0:27:05It's a matter of just finding that right job now.

0:27:05 > 0:27:08Yay! That's good news then, girls.

0:27:09 > 0:27:13But there are obviously other risks, other factors, which are...

0:27:13 > 0:27:16- Which come into play.- Yeah.

0:27:22 > 0:27:25Paul is playing his cards close to his chest,

0:27:25 > 0:27:28but that vote for New Zealand is a big step in the right direction

0:27:28 > 0:27:31for Claire. But with houses looking pricey

0:27:31 > 0:27:33and the girls keen on a new family member,

0:27:33 > 0:27:36it's crucial that the Richards find out if this move

0:27:36 > 0:27:38is affordable or not.

0:27:39 > 0:27:43Selling their four-bedroom house in Penkridge is vital to raising

0:27:43 > 0:27:45the funds they need to emigrate.

0:27:45 > 0:27:49Paul and Claire believe it's worth around £245,000.

0:27:49 > 0:27:53We've asked two local estate agents to give us their opinions.

0:27:53 > 0:27:56Lovely feature fireplace. Stands out well.

0:27:56 > 0:27:59And the French doors going into the dining room.

0:28:03 > 0:28:07Lovely. Nice contemporary kitchen, nice double oven there.

0:28:08 > 0:28:11Lovely extra room, conservatories.

0:28:11 > 0:28:14Nice family, they've got it set up as a dining room, which is perfect.

0:28:18 > 0:28:21- Very good, nicely decorated lounge. - Oh, thank you.

0:28:21 > 0:28:24Colour scheme is very good, very popular today.

0:28:26 > 0:28:28Very modern, up-to-date kitchen.

0:28:28 > 0:28:31The people who live here have utilised the garage that was.

0:28:31 > 0:28:33I'm all in favour of that.

0:28:33 > 0:28:35There you go, selling point.

0:28:35 > 0:28:38Lovely, airy room. Perfect family home. People like this.

0:28:38 > 0:28:39I like this man.

0:28:41 > 0:28:42He can come again.

0:28:42 > 0:28:46Looks like these people are supporters of the second best team.

0:28:46 > 0:28:48Not all of us! Not all of us!

0:28:48 > 0:28:50After Wolverhampton Wanderers.

0:28:52 > 0:28:56Lovely bright room, just needs de-cluttering slightly.

0:28:56 > 0:28:59- I thought Lisa's room was nice. - I totally agree. Totally agree.

0:28:59 > 0:29:02So I'd place the property on the market currently

0:29:02 > 0:29:05at about 270,000.

0:29:05 > 0:29:10With a view to getting round about 260, 265,000.

0:29:12 > 0:29:15Overall impressions of the property, very sought-for location,

0:29:15 > 0:29:19four bedrooms, very central to Stafford as well as Cannock.

0:29:19 > 0:29:22Value, I'd say around 249,950.

0:29:22 > 0:29:25For a quicker sale, between 230 to 240.

0:29:27 > 0:29:30Even though they're both quite different figures,

0:29:30 > 0:29:34we know that slap in the middle of those is probably

0:29:34 > 0:29:36what we would want for it

0:29:36 > 0:29:39and expect to get for it, or wouldn't sell it for any less anyway.

0:29:39 > 0:29:41Our house looks good there, on camera.

0:29:41 > 0:29:44And you're quite happy with the way it's been portrayed,

0:29:44 > 0:29:46cos that's the way it is. So realistically...

0:29:46 > 0:29:48Is that what you think?

0:29:48 > 0:29:51In my head, that's kind of said, "We have got a really nice house,

0:29:51 > 0:29:53"why would we want to be giving it up?"

0:29:53 > 0:29:55You'd have to de-clutter certain rooms

0:29:55 > 0:29:57and take the professionals' advice.

0:29:57 > 0:29:59Which I've been saying for quite some time.

0:29:59 > 0:30:03Yeah, but I think, in regards to the cluttering,

0:30:03 > 0:30:07I think that's cos, as a family, we've outgrown that house.

0:30:07 > 0:30:10Well, at least they agree it's a fair valuation.

0:30:11 > 0:30:15And, if they could get a good price, they'd have a budget of

0:30:15 > 0:30:19between £180,000 and £245,000,

0:30:19 > 0:30:22depending on whether they took on a mortgage.

0:30:22 > 0:30:25But what about their weekly cost of living in New Zealand?

0:30:25 > 0:30:26Yorkshire puddings.

0:30:26 > 0:30:29A pound in the UK, are £2.64 here,

0:30:29 > 0:30:31and the kids love Yorkshire puddings.

0:30:31 > 0:30:34- I'll have to make my own.- Have you put those in?- I've put those in.

0:30:34 > 0:30:39Toilet roll, £3.34 and we get through tons of that.

0:30:40 > 0:30:41We'll have to use newspaper.

0:30:41 > 0:30:43THEY LAUGH

0:30:43 > 0:30:47With the weekly shop going up by more than £30, it looks as if

0:30:47 > 0:30:52living in New Zealand could be a painful experience, in lots of ways.

0:30:52 > 0:30:54That's... I mean...

0:30:54 > 0:30:56It is a bit of an eye-opener, actually.

0:30:56 > 0:31:00Because Paul's New Zealand salary would be almost equal to his UK earnings,

0:31:00 > 0:31:03they've opted to base their mortgage calculations

0:31:03 > 0:31:05on a mid price property.

0:31:05 > 0:31:08- Yeah.- Mortgage repayments. Yeah?

0:31:10 > 0:31:14850, here in the UK

0:31:14 > 0:31:17and in New Zealand it would be 668.

0:31:18 > 0:31:19Paul's spotted a problem.

0:31:21 > 0:31:26OK, so even though the figures are cheaper there at 668,

0:31:26 > 0:31:28and it's 880, right...

0:31:28 > 0:31:32- You're paying it for longer. - ..it doesn't really reflect...

0:31:32 > 0:31:34No, because you pay it for a longer period.

0:31:34 > 0:31:36Yeah? So we're paying 850 over the next six years,

0:31:36 > 0:31:40whereas we'd be paying 668 over 20 years,

0:31:40 > 0:31:42which defeats one of the objects

0:31:42 > 0:31:45we've tried to do with the mortgage. Anyway...

0:31:46 > 0:31:50The figures don't look promising, so what's the bottom line?

0:31:50 > 0:31:53It looks here that we'll be £200 a month better off in the UK

0:31:53 > 0:31:55than what we would in New Zealand.

0:31:57 > 0:32:01- For me now, knowing all of this... - There's a lot to weigh up.

0:32:01 > 0:32:03Yeah, there is still an awful lot to weigh up.

0:32:03 > 0:32:06We could afford to live here, OK,

0:32:06 > 0:32:11but it would mean us taking on a larger mortgage in terms of...

0:32:11 > 0:32:15than what we've currently got, but also the term of that mortgage

0:32:15 > 0:32:17and is that something we really want to be doing?

0:32:19 > 0:32:21- It's something to consider. - It is something to consider,

0:32:21 > 0:32:22but it is...

0:32:24 > 0:32:27..from what I've experienced so far, that is the number one factor.

0:32:27 > 0:32:31- Which was the job. It's now changed to this, hasn't it?- Yes.

0:32:31 > 0:32:33It looks like emigrating could be affordable,

0:32:33 > 0:32:36but only if the Richards are willing to dig deep.

0:32:36 > 0:32:38So how will they vote?

0:32:38 > 0:32:43OK, so based on the cost of living out here in New Zealand,

0:32:43 > 0:32:45our vote goes to...

0:32:53 > 0:32:54- The UK.- The UK.

0:32:59 > 0:33:03I think, even though we've said the UK, based on those figures,

0:33:03 > 0:33:06- I think we still need to evaluate... - The whole lifestyle.

0:33:06 > 0:33:09The whole way of living over here and ultimately what you want, I think.

0:33:09 > 0:33:12- You took the words right out of my mouth.- There you go.

0:33:12 > 0:33:16That's cos we're peas in a pod. That's cos we evenly matched.

0:33:16 > 0:33:20- No, but I think you've got to weigh everything up, haven't you?- We have.

0:33:20 > 0:33:24And, if your lifestyle is going to exceed everything else,

0:33:24 > 0:33:27then that's ultimately what you go for.

0:33:27 > 0:33:31- But cost of living-wise, it's definitely living in the UK.- Yes.

0:33:36 > 0:33:39Seeing the figures laid out in front of them

0:33:39 > 0:33:42put the brakes on even Claire's enthusiasm to emigrate,

0:33:42 > 0:33:45but could those high prices be worth paying?

0:33:45 > 0:33:49For Claire, it's the possibility of living a better lifestyle

0:33:49 > 0:33:53and being close to her family that's always been behind this dream.

0:33:53 > 0:33:56The Richards are visiting Auckland

0:33:56 > 0:33:57at the start of the Kiwi winter.

0:33:57 > 0:34:00With average winter temperatures of around 14 degrees,

0:34:00 > 0:34:04living and outdoor lifestyle is a year-long prospect.

0:34:05 > 0:34:09For Claire, this chance to spend time together is priceless.

0:34:10 > 0:34:12It's for me, as well, it's for Paul,

0:34:12 > 0:34:14but it's for them, it's for their futures.

0:34:14 > 0:34:16I think maybe they'll keep their childhood for longer,

0:34:16 > 0:34:18staying here, rather than...

0:34:18 > 0:34:21the sort of things you might see happening in the UK.

0:34:23 > 0:34:26And Paul can also see how much living down under

0:34:26 > 0:34:28could offer the family.

0:34:28 > 0:34:31We very rarely get to do anything of an evening.

0:34:31 > 0:34:33You know, by the time I get home from work,

0:34:33 > 0:34:36Claire's already had a few hours with the children,

0:34:36 > 0:34:40predominantly stuck inside or at clubs, you know?

0:34:41 > 0:34:43Given the fact that we can be outside

0:34:43 > 0:34:45till later on in an evening,

0:34:45 > 0:34:47for the vast majority of the time

0:34:47 > 0:34:49throughout the year,

0:34:49 > 0:34:52it's a very, very, very big positive.

0:34:53 > 0:34:56With so many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors,

0:34:56 > 0:35:01the Richards' lifestyle could change for ever, if they make the move.

0:35:01 > 0:35:04It seems a very safe environment out here for the children.

0:35:04 > 0:35:07They can safely play out on the beaches, whereas back home

0:35:07 > 0:35:10we'd potentially be, "Where are they?"

0:35:10 > 0:35:12You know, they couldn't be able to run free.

0:35:12 > 0:35:15You know, exercising all the time, running up and down on the beach,

0:35:15 > 0:35:17again, is another positive.

0:35:17 > 0:35:19So it's all positives at the moment.

0:35:19 > 0:35:22With the final vote only a couple of days away,

0:35:22 > 0:35:25meeting up with Claire's brother and family is a welcome break

0:35:25 > 0:35:28from the strain of such a big decision.

0:35:28 > 0:35:32Making new friends may take time, but being back together has

0:35:32 > 0:35:35reminded Claire of what inspired her dream in the first place.

0:35:35 > 0:35:37All that I've seen and we've done so far

0:35:37 > 0:35:40and seeing how the children are,

0:35:40 > 0:35:44it does bring it home to me how important it is.

0:35:44 > 0:35:47I'm hoping that what he sees here and what he's done here,

0:35:47 > 0:35:50I'm hoping that he thinks, "Yeah, it is better."

0:35:51 > 0:35:54For Claire, New Zealand would mean being close to people

0:35:54 > 0:35:58and a lifestyle she loves, but have Paul and the girls

0:35:58 > 0:36:01been convinced that Kiwi living is for them, too?

0:36:02 > 0:36:07Based on the lifestyle here in New Zealand, our vote goes to...

0:36:13 > 0:36:16- ALL: New Zealand!- New Zealand.

0:36:19 > 0:36:21So far, there's been nothing to fault

0:36:21 > 0:36:23anything to do with the lifestyle.

0:36:23 > 0:36:27The beaches, the scenery, the climate, the outdoor living,

0:36:27 > 0:36:28everything is superb.

0:36:31 > 0:36:33That's quite a turnaround from Paul

0:36:33 > 0:36:35and great news for Claire.

0:36:35 > 0:36:37And, to top things off,

0:36:37 > 0:36:40a family barbecue is a fitting end to the day.

0:36:44 > 0:36:48- Do you want a go?- No, it's November, Rob. You can't do this in November.

0:36:48 > 0:36:51It's not only the seasons that are confused down under.

0:36:51 > 0:36:55After not seeing each other for three years, some of the family

0:36:55 > 0:36:58need a little more time to put faces and names together again.

0:36:58 > 0:37:00Grandma!

0:37:00 > 0:37:01LAUGHTER

0:37:01 > 0:37:03Thanks, Ben.

0:37:03 > 0:37:04I don't know why he's calling me grandma,

0:37:04 > 0:37:06unless I look like my mother.

0:37:06 > 0:37:08And while the girls catch up on Kiwi fashions,

0:37:08 > 0:37:11Mum and Dad can drink to old friends.

0:37:11 > 0:37:13- Ready?- Cheers.- Cheers.

0:37:13 > 0:37:15Good to see you, good to have you here.

0:37:20 > 0:37:24The Kiwi lifestyle was a big success with the Richards

0:37:24 > 0:37:25and seeing familiar faces

0:37:25 > 0:37:28would make emigrating a lot easier to handle,

0:37:28 > 0:37:31but being reunited with family in New Zealand won't come

0:37:31 > 0:37:34without the pain of leaving others behind at home.

0:37:36 > 0:37:39Right, do you think we're OK to let the children watch it?

0:37:39 > 0:37:43- Let's ask them. Do you want to see what people have got to say?- Yeah.

0:37:43 > 0:37:46- Yeah?- Yeah.- Yeah? OK.

0:37:48 > 0:37:50Hello, Paul. Hello, Claire.

0:37:50 > 0:37:52'Hello, girls. Woo!'

0:37:52 > 0:37:54Hi, Paul,

0:37:54 > 0:37:56Claire and girls.

0:37:56 > 0:37:59Hi, Claire, Paul and the Penkridge three.

0:37:59 > 0:38:01I've worried about Claire from

0:38:01 > 0:38:03the day she was born and I

0:38:03 > 0:38:05never, ever, you know,

0:38:05 > 0:38:08go very long without thinking about her,

0:38:08 > 0:38:09some time or other.

0:38:09 > 0:38:12I think the lifestyle, for them, is good there,

0:38:12 > 0:38:14cos that's the way they are.

0:38:15 > 0:38:19I think it will be the best thing ever for them,

0:38:19 > 0:38:20but I'll be gutted.

0:38:20 > 0:38:22I don't want them to go.

0:38:23 > 0:38:26Well, I'll just be brokenhearted.

0:38:26 > 0:38:27Yeah, we've got two children,

0:38:27 > 0:38:30then we wouldn't have any children, would we?

0:38:30 > 0:38:32If they feel that they can

0:38:32 > 0:38:34move to New Zealand and better themselves

0:38:34 > 0:38:37more than what they have done, well,

0:38:37 > 0:38:41we can't say anything against you.

0:38:41 > 0:38:45We'll support them, but I don't want them to go, obviously.

0:38:45 > 0:38:47I'm going to miss the girls hugely.

0:38:47 > 0:38:50They're... It's been an honour

0:38:50 > 0:38:54being their godfather,

0:38:54 > 0:38:57and watching them growing up over the last 12 years.

0:38:57 > 0:39:00It's going to be like losing part of the family, you know?

0:39:02 > 0:39:04It's going to be hard.

0:39:04 > 0:39:05It's being selfish, I know,

0:39:05 > 0:39:08to say that we don't want you to go,

0:39:08 > 0:39:10but we don't really.

0:39:10 > 0:39:13But whatever you decide, we'll back you up.

0:39:13 > 0:39:16You know, somewhere down inside I just...

0:39:21 > 0:39:24I can't think about that one.

0:39:24 > 0:39:27We just wish you well.

0:39:28 > 0:39:29And...

0:39:29 > 0:39:31buy a big house so we can

0:39:31 > 0:39:33come and stay with you.

0:39:34 > 0:39:36So what do you think of that, then?

0:39:36 > 0:39:37Well...

0:39:39 > 0:39:43- You look like you're a bit touched by it all.- Yeah, I was.

0:39:43 > 0:39:46What about you, Elise? What do you think?

0:39:46 > 0:39:48I'm going to be sad.

0:39:49 > 0:39:51What? Cos you wouldn't see them so often?

0:39:52 > 0:39:55Right. And what about you, Paul?

0:39:55 > 0:39:57Yeah, I didn't think it would

0:39:57 > 0:40:00pull at my heartstrings so much, to be honest.

0:40:00 > 0:40:03One of my reasons why I don't really want to come out here

0:40:03 > 0:40:06was cos of family and friends.

0:40:06 > 0:40:09- But we've got cousins here. - I know we've got family here,

0:40:09 > 0:40:11but we haven't got all the family

0:40:11 > 0:40:12out here, have we?

0:40:12 > 0:40:14And it's not just family,

0:40:14 > 0:40:15it's friends, as well.

0:40:19 > 0:40:23Watching messages reminded the family just how much

0:40:23 > 0:40:26they'd have to give up for a new start down under.

0:40:26 > 0:40:28But, having fallen for the lifestyle,

0:40:28 > 0:40:31they know the rewards that could be on offer, too.

0:40:31 > 0:40:35So, how will the Richards make their final decision?

0:40:40 > 0:40:43Had an absolutely brilliant time, all round.

0:40:43 > 0:40:45Everything that we've done, everything we've experienced

0:40:45 > 0:40:47has just been above and beyond

0:40:47 > 0:40:49what I expected, I think, really.

0:40:50 > 0:40:53Thinking about it properly, it's been a bit of a rollercoaster ride.

0:40:53 > 0:40:55I am honestly, honestly

0:40:55 > 0:40:58undecided on what to do at this moment in time.

0:40:58 > 0:41:00I don't know how I'm going to make the decision.

0:41:00 > 0:41:04I am really anxious about the way... what Paul's decision will be.

0:41:04 > 0:41:06I think, for him, in fairness to him,

0:41:06 > 0:41:08whatever decision he makes won't be...

0:41:08 > 0:41:11Well, it's not going to be, for either of us, an easy decision.

0:41:11 > 0:41:14My heart is kind of saying, you know,

0:41:14 > 0:41:16I really should be coming out here,

0:41:16 > 0:41:17because it is fantastic.

0:41:17 > 0:41:20But, you know, decisions like this, you really shouldn't...

0:41:20 > 0:41:23my personal view is you should be making with your head.

0:41:23 > 0:41:25You know, weighing up absolutely every option.

0:41:25 > 0:41:28If he turns around and says it's an absolute, definite no,

0:41:28 > 0:41:33I think I'll be... well, be gutted, I suppose.

0:41:33 > 0:41:37It would make me sad, but you know... definitely.

0:41:37 > 0:41:40It's been a week to remember for the Richards,

0:41:40 > 0:41:42but, at the end of it, will heads rule hearts,

0:41:42 > 0:41:46or will the promise of a new life make Claire's dream come true?

0:41:47 > 0:41:50Based on our week here in New Zealand,

0:41:50 > 0:41:51our final vote goes to...

0:42:01 > 0:42:04- The UK.- New Zealand.- New Zealand.

0:42:05 > 0:42:08Elise, why have you voted for the UK?

0:42:08 > 0:42:12I really like New Zealand, but I'd just miss my family.

0:42:12 > 0:42:13I mean, it would be nice

0:42:13 > 0:42:17if we could all live in New Zealand.

0:42:19 > 0:42:21I voted for similar reasons as Elise, and based on the fact

0:42:21 > 0:42:24on the friends and family that we'll be leaving behind,

0:42:24 > 0:42:25I think it's too much.

0:42:25 > 0:42:29So, have you dismissed it now, or are you going to consider?

0:42:29 > 0:42:31No, I haven't dismissed it as an option.

0:42:31 > 0:42:34It's given me a lot more information as to what

0:42:34 > 0:42:36we need to take into consideration.

0:42:36 > 0:42:40It's something that we need to take away and look and review.

0:42:47 > 0:42:51Choosing the right future for your family is never easy

0:42:51 > 0:42:53and it looks like this is one conversation

0:42:53 > 0:42:55that still has some distance to run.

0:42:55 > 0:42:57But, wherever their journey takes them,

0:42:57 > 0:43:00we wish the Richards all the very best.
