0:00:03 > 0:00:06If you believed you had an ideal life at home,

0:00:06 > 0:00:10could you be persuaded to give it up and emigrate halfway around the world,

0:00:10 > 0:00:15especially when your partner and your children were ready to pack their bags?

0:00:16 > 0:00:21Peter Kennedy is convinced his family could have a better life in Australia.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24I'm sure in my heart of hearts that...

0:00:24 > 0:00:26..it's for the right reasons.

0:00:26 > 0:00:30But wife Nicky can't see any reason to give up all she loves.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32I like the life that I've got in York,

0:00:32 > 0:00:36you know, like my home, I like where we live,

0:00:36 > 0:00:38friends, family, everything.

0:00:38 > 0:00:42A week Down Under will leave her torn...

0:00:42 > 0:00:46Now I just need to convince Mum that Australia's the place for the family.

0:00:46 > 0:00:51Is it enough that the children and Pete's happy, or do I need to be happy, as well?

0:00:51 > 0:00:55..and the entire family divided.

0:00:55 > 0:00:57Are you staying in England with me? OK.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00- I'm coming to Australia.- With me?

0:01:24 > 0:01:27With its sunny climate and relaxed outdoor lifestyle,

0:01:27 > 0:01:31it's no surprise that Australia is the top destination for Brits

0:01:31 > 0:01:33starting a new life abroad.

0:01:34 > 0:01:39But moving halfway across the globe and leaving behind everything and everyone you know

0:01:39 > 0:01:44can turn this dream into the hardest challenge of your life.

0:01:44 > 0:01:45Over the next seven days,

0:01:45 > 0:01:48the Kennedy family will experience the reality

0:01:48 > 0:01:50of everyday life in Australia.

0:01:50 > 0:01:53Then they'll have to make a critical choice

0:01:53 > 0:01:57whether to stay in the UK or to make the move for good.

0:01:58 > 0:02:0023 hours after leaving their house in York,

0:02:00 > 0:02:04the Kennedy family complete a 10,000-mile journey.

0:02:04 > 0:02:09One person is very glad this part of the trip is over.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11- You were dreading it. - I was dreading it.

0:02:11 > 0:02:15I wouldn't want to do it again too soon.

0:02:15 > 0:02:18And Nicky also has major worries about the week ahead.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21I suppose I'm a bit worried that we do really like it,

0:02:21 > 0:02:27and then there's all the, you know, the issues that go with that,

0:02:27 > 0:02:30which is mainly leaving friends and family.

0:02:30 > 0:02:34However, Peter is taking it all in his stride.

0:02:34 > 0:02:36It's still the start of the journey.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39We'll look at the work prospects and the whole picture

0:02:39 > 0:02:43and just see how that all comes together.

0:02:44 > 0:02:48Ahead is one of the most important weeks of their lives,

0:02:48 > 0:02:53half a world away from their home back in the UK.

0:02:56 > 0:03:00Peter and Nicky Kennedy live in York with their three children,

0:03:00 > 0:03:05Joseph, aged nine, Ruby, who's seven, and baby Jude.

0:03:05 > 0:03:10For years, Peter's been pushing the idea of moving his family to Australia

0:03:10 > 0:03:12and has successfully applied for a visa.

0:03:12 > 0:03:16However, his desire to move isn't straightforward.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18It's not one reason, it's not one thing

0:03:18 > 0:03:22that is either pushing or pulling me to go.

0:03:22 > 0:03:26It's the adventure, the opportunity for work, erm,

0:03:26 > 0:03:29and opportunities in the medium term for the kids.

0:03:29 > 0:03:32We're not being pushed. We're happy here.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35It's comfortable. The location's great.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38Peter may dream of moving for a new life Down Under,

0:03:38 > 0:03:41but it's a different story for Nicky.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43I've had ups and downs, really.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46He'll show me some nice houses with swimming pools

0:03:46 > 0:03:48and I'll think, "Oh, right, that sounds nice."

0:03:48 > 0:03:51And then my mum comes round or I go out with friends

0:03:51 > 0:03:54and I think, "How could I leave all this?"

0:03:54 > 0:03:58I just get a panic, thinking about packing everything up and leaving everything I know

0:03:58 > 0:04:01and going across the world.

0:04:01 > 0:04:05While Nicky may be torn about the pain and practicalities of moving,

0:04:05 > 0:04:08Joseph and Ruby don't have any doubts.

0:04:08 > 0:04:12I can't wait to play on the beach and go in the swimming pool.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15I'd never thought about moving to a different country,

0:04:15 > 0:04:18especially a country that's the other side of the world.

0:04:18 > 0:04:22So I just never thought. But when Dad mentioned it to me,

0:04:22 > 0:04:26I decided that that was quite a good idea.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30As the only one against emigrating, the pressure is on Nicky,

0:04:30 > 0:04:34and she knows it's an issue she can't avoid.

0:04:34 > 0:04:38I know that a decision is going to have to be made sooner or later

0:04:38 > 0:04:41and part of me just wishes the problem would go away.

0:04:41 > 0:04:44I'm really happy with my life here.

0:04:44 > 0:04:47We live in a really nice place, we've got a lot of great friends.

0:04:47 > 0:04:50It would be really difficult to leave them.

0:04:50 > 0:04:52But the worst thing would be leaving my mum.

0:04:52 > 0:04:57As an only child, Nicky has a very close relationship with her mum,

0:04:57 > 0:04:58as do the grandchildren.

0:04:58 > 0:05:00She sees a lot of the kids,

0:05:00 > 0:05:04has always looked after the kids and babysat for them and adores the children.

0:05:04 > 0:05:07I'll miss my friends and Grandma quite a lot.

0:05:07 > 0:05:12I guess you can make new friends, but you can't have a new grandma, can you?

0:05:12 > 0:05:15I'm going to miss my grandma and my cousins most.

0:05:15 > 0:05:20At the moment, we tend not to discuss it too much because...

0:05:20 > 0:05:22..she clearly, you know, is upset.

0:05:22 > 0:05:24And not that she'd want to stop us,

0:05:24 > 0:05:27and she absolutely can see why it would be great for the kids,

0:05:27 > 0:05:32but, equally, she would be quite devastated if we left.

0:05:32 > 0:05:34I feel bad about putting her through it

0:05:34 > 0:05:38and making her have this stress,

0:05:38 > 0:05:42but I'm sure in my heart of hearts that it's for the right reasons

0:05:42 > 0:05:46and it will turn out all right.

0:05:46 > 0:05:48Australia may be Peter's dream

0:05:48 > 0:05:53but Nicky's worries, and the heartache they may cause, are creating uncertainty.

0:05:53 > 0:05:56I'm not 100 percent set on it. I've got worries and doubts.

0:05:56 > 0:06:00But I feel positive about it. It's something that I'm...

0:06:00 > 0:06:03- You're not...- I'm just 50-50, I think, at the minute.

0:06:03 > 0:06:07I'm still struggling with everything that I'm leaving behind.

0:06:07 > 0:06:11The easiest thing in the world would be to just say,

0:06:11 > 0:06:12"Let's just not bother.

0:06:12 > 0:06:17"Let's just stay here, quite comfortable. We'll get by.

0:06:17 > 0:06:20"Shall we just not bother?"

0:06:20 > 0:06:22Yes, let's not bother!

0:06:26 > 0:06:29The Kennedys are trapped on opposite sides of a dream.

0:06:29 > 0:06:34For Nicky, giving up all she has at home is a heart-breaking prospect,

0:06:34 > 0:06:38but Peter believes the rewards of moving could make the pain worthwhile.

0:06:38 > 0:06:42Ahead is one of the most important weeks of their lives.

0:06:44 > 0:06:49Perth is Western Australia's largest city, with nearly two million residents.

0:06:49 > 0:06:52The relaxed lifestyle and high standard of living

0:06:52 > 0:06:56are a big attraction for families like the Kennedys,

0:06:56 > 0:06:58and the city's mining and oil industry

0:06:58 > 0:07:02could offer great business potential for Peter.

0:07:02 > 0:07:05The family will be staying in this four-bedroom house in Mullaloo,

0:07:05 > 0:07:0817 miles north of the city centre

0:07:08 > 0:07:10and close to popular beaches.

0:07:10 > 0:07:14This is the Kennedys' first real taste of Australia,

0:07:14 > 0:07:18so what would their all-important first impression be?

0:07:19 > 0:07:23- CHILDREN: Whoa!- That is so cool!

0:07:23 > 0:07:26Oh, look, there's a bedroom in there.

0:07:26 > 0:07:28You can have this room.

0:07:28 > 0:07:30That's your bedroom, Jude. What do you think?

0:07:30 > 0:07:33Look. It's got Winnie the Pooh.

0:07:33 > 0:07:36Look at that little bath, Rubes!

0:07:36 > 0:07:39CHILDREN GIGGLE

0:07:39 > 0:07:40The children might be happy,

0:07:40 > 0:07:43but Mum and Dad seem a tad underwhelmed.

0:07:43 > 0:07:48It's OK. It's nice. It's not something we'd probably look at buying.

0:07:48 > 0:07:50The kids are happy. There's a pool and some toys,

0:07:50 > 0:07:54so they'll be fine.

0:07:54 > 0:07:57Hopefully, the rest of the week will lift their spirits,

0:07:57 > 0:08:01because the family are aware their future is riding on this trip.

0:08:01 > 0:08:08I think Dad, so far, wants to come here more than Mum,

0:08:08 > 0:08:11erm, and Mum's kind of following on.

0:08:11 > 0:08:14We've got to decide this week. We'll not be coming back again.

0:08:14 > 0:08:18I like the life I've got in York,

0:08:18 > 0:08:22so for me to uproot myself and the family to come to Perth,

0:08:22 > 0:08:25it's got to be really something...

0:08:25 > 0:08:27..it's got to be something really special

0:08:27 > 0:08:30that I really think it's worth leaving all that behind for.

0:08:30 > 0:08:36I can't force Nick to like it. There's a distinct possibility that I won't like it.

0:08:36 > 0:08:40It's not my decision. It's a joint decision.

0:08:42 > 0:08:45It's just the beginning of their journey,

0:08:45 > 0:08:47but with a huge choice on the horizon,

0:08:47 > 0:08:51it looks like the Kennedys could be in for a bumpy ride.

0:08:56 > 0:09:01The family live in this six-bedroom house close to the centre of York.

0:09:01 > 0:09:05After 13 years living here, their home is exactly as they want it.

0:09:05 > 0:09:08Finding an Australian property to match this won't be easy.

0:09:08 > 0:09:12Where we live here, it's just outside the middle of York.

0:09:12 > 0:09:15The location's great, the schools are good.

0:09:15 > 0:09:19We've got a nice, big family house in a nice area,

0:09:19 > 0:09:23and that's what we'd want to have in Perth.

0:09:23 > 0:09:26It's got to be big enough that people can come out and visit.

0:09:26 > 0:09:28I really like to swim,

0:09:28 > 0:09:34so I'd look forward to having a swimming pool over in Australia.

0:09:34 > 0:09:38I would love to have a really big house

0:09:38 > 0:09:41so I can run around in it.

0:09:41 > 0:09:46Peter and Nicky think their house is worth £375,000,

0:09:46 > 0:09:48which they hope will give them a budget

0:09:48 > 0:09:52of around £530,000 in Australia.

0:09:52 > 0:09:55But will it be enough to afford their dream home?

0:09:55 > 0:09:59Today, we'll give the Kennedys a taste of Perth's property market.

0:09:59 > 0:10:01We'll show them three options

0:10:01 > 0:10:06based on what they want from their ideal home and what they can afford.

0:10:06 > 0:10:08After seeing for themselves what's on offer,

0:10:08 > 0:10:12they'll find out how much each house costs.

0:10:13 > 0:10:16The first house is in Woodvale Waters,

0:10:16 > 0:10:18a suburb 15 miles north of Perth.

0:10:18 > 0:10:20There are good transport links

0:10:20 > 0:10:22and the local state school is one of Perth's best,

0:10:22 > 0:10:26making it a great option for the Kennedys.

0:10:27 > 0:10:32Just ten minutes from the coast, and with a huge park and lake right next door,

0:10:32 > 0:10:37does this four-bedroom house have the wow factor Nicky's looking for?

0:10:38 > 0:10:41- What's there, Rubes?- This.

0:10:41 > 0:10:43Oh, like a little office.

0:10:43 > 0:10:45- This is nice, isn't it? - It's a nice size.

0:10:45 > 0:10:49It's a bit old fashioned, decor-wise, isn't it?

0:10:49 > 0:10:51- I like it.- Do you, Joe?

0:10:51 > 0:10:53What about the big light fitting, Joe?

0:10:53 > 0:10:56I like the chandeliers, actually.

0:10:56 > 0:10:58- This is nice, isn't it?- It's nice.

0:10:58 > 0:11:00It's a nice kitchen.

0:11:00 > 0:11:03This house seems to be a hit with the children,

0:11:03 > 0:11:06but Mum and Dad have some reservations.

0:11:06 > 0:11:09- It feels like it's in England, don't you think?- Yes.

0:11:09 > 0:11:12Maybe it was an English family that had it.

0:11:12 > 0:11:15I guess if you're going to move all the way to Australia,

0:11:15 > 0:11:18you might want a house that feels Australian.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21What about the large bedrooms? Can they make a difference?

0:11:21 > 0:11:24- Ah, this is lovely.- Yes.

0:11:25 > 0:11:29- Ah!- It's nice, isn't it? - Is that a Jacuzzi?

0:11:29 > 0:11:31Yes, it's a Jacuzzi.

0:11:32 > 0:11:33- Ah, that's nice!- Very sweet.

0:11:33 > 0:11:35Ruby, that's nice,

0:11:35 > 0:11:38because look what you can see out of your bedroom window.

0:11:38 > 0:11:41- It's a pool! - Yes! We've got a swimming pool!

0:11:41 > 0:11:46The pool might be a bonus but, overall, this house just hasn't impressed Nicky.

0:11:46 > 0:11:49It's not what I was thinking

0:11:49 > 0:11:51of a property that we would buy over here.

0:11:51 > 0:11:54- This reminds me of an English house. - Yes.

0:11:54 > 0:11:56This house may not have won them over,

0:11:56 > 0:12:02but can the price make it more appealing to their £530,000 budget?

0:12:02 > 0:12:03How much do you think it's worth?

0:12:03 > 0:12:08Well, it's interesting, because it's in a good area for schools, so it'll be worth...

0:12:08 > 0:12:13- About 800 and...- 850. - 850 Australia dollars.

0:12:13 > 0:12:155,000.

0:12:15 > 0:12:18- 5,000. - Do you want to have a look, Joe?

0:12:21 > 0:12:26- Oh.- Ooh! 850! I don't think we'd want to pay that for this house.

0:12:26 > 0:12:28No, because we'd want to spend money on doing it,

0:12:28 > 0:12:31and if you're spending the top end

0:12:31 > 0:12:34you want to move straight in and not spend on it.

0:12:34 > 0:12:37For a house that's only just within their budget,

0:12:37 > 0:12:40this property hasn't made much of an impression.

0:12:40 > 0:12:42Will they have better luck on the second property

0:12:42 > 0:12:47or will they need to reconsider what kind of house they can afford?

0:12:47 > 0:12:49The next home is in Mindarie.

0:12:49 > 0:12:53Being further from Perth and transport links than the first house,

0:12:53 > 0:12:56it could mean a longer commute for Peter.

0:12:56 > 0:13:01But it is right on the coast - perfect for family days at the beach.

0:13:01 > 0:13:05- It's lovely, isn't it? You'd be able to go on your bike, wouldn't you? - Definitely.

0:13:05 > 0:13:07You wouldn't be able to get up, though!

0:13:07 > 0:13:09It's gorgeous, that.

0:13:09 > 0:13:12The sea views might be a good start,

0:13:12 > 0:13:15but will this four-bedroom house be modern enough for Nicky and Peter?

0:13:15 > 0:13:17Oh, this has an upstairs.

0:13:17 > 0:13:22This must be the master bedroom, then, at the front of the house.

0:13:22 > 0:13:24- The bathroom...- Yes.

0:13:24 > 0:13:29- That's quite a nice size. - Similar layout to the first one, with the bathroom and the shower.

0:13:29 > 0:13:32- Ooh!- Oh, look at this!

0:13:32 > 0:13:37- That's a nice big room, isn't it? - This is a bit more like it at the back.

0:13:37 > 0:13:40The last one was a bit smaller at the back, wasn't it? This is...

0:13:40 > 0:13:42- Yes.- You'd arrange it differently.

0:13:42 > 0:13:45It's sounding quite positive so far.

0:13:45 > 0:13:49Will the garden make this a house they'd consider calling home?

0:13:49 > 0:13:52It's nice, but there's nowhere for them to play,

0:13:52 > 0:13:55kick a ball or... They'd maybe do that on the beach.

0:13:55 > 0:13:59Dad says there isn't that much space to play.

0:14:00 > 0:14:03The small outdoor space might be far from ideal,

0:14:03 > 0:14:06but there is a room upstairs that may help change their minds.

0:14:06 > 0:14:10- This is lovely!- This is nice. - This is lovely, isn't it?- Yes.

0:14:10 > 0:14:12It's really nice.

0:14:14 > 0:14:18- The views are lovely, aren't they? - Oh, yes.

0:14:18 > 0:14:21It's a bit of a waste, though, to have it as a games room.

0:14:21 > 0:14:25You'd want it more to entertain, wouldn't you, because of the views and everything?

0:14:25 > 0:14:30- I don't know. - It's a bit of a waste for the kids, just playing table tennis.

0:14:31 > 0:14:34Have a look, Rubes.

0:14:34 > 0:14:36You're really not far from the sea, look.

0:14:36 > 0:14:39- Just straight down that road there, I think, Joe.- Yes.

0:14:39 > 0:14:43- So, what do you think? Do you like this one, Ruby? - No. I like the other one better.

0:14:43 > 0:14:46- Do you?- Yes. The other one was nicer. - Yes.

0:14:46 > 0:14:51I guess it's going to take more than a room with a view to win Ruby over.

0:14:51 > 0:14:57But will the price be within Mum and Dad's £530,000 budget?

0:14:57 > 0:15:00We would need to do quite a lot to it to get it how we would want it,

0:15:00 > 0:15:04so I think 800,000 Australian dollars.

0:15:04 > 0:15:07I think a bit less. 750.

0:15:07 > 0:15:09Shall we have a look?

0:15:09 > 0:15:11Duh-duh...!

0:15:11 > 0:15:13- Ooh, 468.- We were all close!

0:15:13 > 0:15:18750. I think it's maybe a little bit overpriced, to be honest.

0:15:18 > 0:15:22What do you think, kids? It needs to be a bit more special for us to leave our house in York.

0:15:22 > 0:15:26I don't really like it as much as the first house.

0:15:26 > 0:15:28It's not quite what we were looking for, is it?

0:15:28 > 0:15:32- No, but they are out there, though, aren't they?- Hopefully.

0:15:32 > 0:15:36- We just haven't found our dream house yet, have we?- No.

0:15:36 > 0:15:38Let's see what the next one's like.

0:15:38 > 0:15:43Despite being within their budget, this house has been a bit of a disappointment.

0:15:43 > 0:15:46It seems their home back in the UK is a tough act to beat.

0:15:46 > 0:15:49Can the last property make the difference?

0:15:49 > 0:15:52It's situated in Connolly, in the Joondalup area.

0:15:52 > 0:15:56The location offers popular schools, good transport links to Perth

0:15:56 > 0:15:58and plenty of shopping.

0:15:58 > 0:16:03On paper, this modern five-bedroom house has everything the Kennedys are after,

0:16:03 > 0:16:05but will the reality impress?

0:16:05 > 0:16:08- Let's have a look.- It's nice from the outside.- First impressions...

0:16:08 > 0:16:12This is nice. This is absolutely gorgeous.

0:16:12 > 0:16:13- Do you like this one?- Yes.

0:16:13 > 0:16:17Jude will like this room because it's big.

0:16:17 > 0:16:20- He'd like to play on that rug. - This is more like us, I think.

0:16:20 > 0:16:23- Ohh!- This is nice.

0:16:23 > 0:16:26- This is nice.- There's a bar! Dad!

0:16:26 > 0:16:30This house has definitely got the wow factor the Kennedys have been looking for.

0:16:30 > 0:16:33But that's got them worrying about the price.

0:16:33 > 0:16:36It looks like somewhere you can't afford, Joe.

0:16:36 > 0:16:40I'd be pleased if it turns out to be 468,000.

0:16:40 > 0:16:44- Will you?- Yes. - The same as the last one?- Yes. - I think it'll be more than that.

0:16:44 > 0:16:48Would you pay more than the last one for this one?

0:16:48 > 0:16:50I would pay all my pocket money.

0:16:50 > 0:16:54- You haven't seen the bedrooms yet. - But so far, I really like it. - Do you? OK.

0:16:55 > 0:16:59At last, the Kennedys have found a property that's a hit with everyone.

0:16:59 > 0:17:02It looks as if Ruby might not be the only one

0:17:02 > 0:17:05willing to give up their pocket money.

0:17:05 > 0:17:08- Ahh, nice!- Ahh, cool!

0:17:08 > 0:17:11- It's nice up here, isn't it? - Where's the hockey table?

0:17:11 > 0:17:16It's lovely out here. Come and have a look at this. Nice views, isn't it?

0:17:16 > 0:17:19- I wonder how much it is. - If you like it, you can't afford it.

0:17:19 > 0:17:23Is Peter right, or will this house actually be within their reach?

0:17:23 > 0:17:25Let's take a look at the price.

0:17:25 > 0:17:28Based on the house and the street, I think it's our favourite.

0:17:28 > 0:17:30Easy 900.

0:17:30 > 0:17:33Turn it over, Rubes.

0:17:33 > 0:17:36That's £70,000 over budget.

0:17:36 > 0:17:39- Right.- So... - That is a lot, isn't it?- It is.

0:17:39 > 0:17:42- It must be a nice area, then.- Yes. - We can't afford it, though, guys!

0:17:42 > 0:17:47Ahh! Back to England, eh? RUBY GROANS

0:17:47 > 0:17:51- I wanted to live here!- If we can't afford it, we can't afford it, Rubes.

0:17:51 > 0:17:55House-hunting has been a real eye-opener for the Kennedys.

0:17:57 > 0:17:58The first property

0:17:58 > 0:18:02was not what they'd imagined their Australian home to look like,

0:18:02 > 0:18:06and it was right at the top end of their budget.

0:18:07 > 0:18:09The second was a lot more affordable,

0:18:09 > 0:18:13but it just didn't have the wow factor to make it a contender.

0:18:13 > 0:18:17The modern and spacious layout of the last house made it a winner,

0:18:17 > 0:18:21but a large price tag could mean it's out of their reach.

0:18:21 > 0:18:24So after a day sampling Perth property,

0:18:24 > 0:18:26could they give up their UK home,

0:18:26 > 0:18:29or have Australian houses fallen short of the mark?

0:18:29 > 0:18:32Based on the three properties we've viewed today,

0:18:32 > 0:18:35my vote is...

0:18:38 > 0:18:41- UK!- UK.

0:18:41 > 0:18:42UK.

0:18:42 > 0:18:45UK!

0:18:45 > 0:18:46Why have you voted UK, then, Joe?

0:18:46 > 0:18:52Er, because I really like the house that we've got so far,

0:18:52 > 0:18:55and I wouldn't be willing to give up that house

0:18:55 > 0:18:59and my awesome, awesome bedroom for one of those houses.

0:18:59 > 0:19:02I really wanted the last house but we couldn't afford it.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05If we could afford the last house, I would've voted Australia.

0:19:05 > 0:19:10I voted UK because I didn't see any properties today, including the last one,

0:19:10 > 0:19:14that I would want to leave my home in the UK for.

0:19:14 > 0:19:17The last property was really nice, erm,

0:19:17 > 0:19:21but it wasn't something that, erm,

0:19:21 > 0:19:23you'd walk away from the UK for.

0:19:23 > 0:19:27This is a huge blow for Peter.

0:19:27 > 0:19:29He'd hoped that finding their dream home in Australia

0:19:29 > 0:19:34would've really helped persuade Nicky towards emigrating.

0:19:34 > 0:19:36If we'd seen a property that I really loved, in budget,

0:19:36 > 0:19:38I might be feeling differently.

0:19:38 > 0:19:42But as it is, it's kind of proven the point to me

0:19:42 > 0:19:45that maybe we can't afford the lifestyle

0:19:45 > 0:19:48that we would like over here.

0:19:48 > 0:19:51I thought we had quite a realistic budget,

0:19:51 > 0:19:54but, you know, it may not be.

0:19:54 > 0:19:57There's a lot more work to be done, I think.

0:19:57 > 0:20:00For me, I'm thinking, "Well, that's fine.

0:20:00 > 0:20:04"If we can't afford it, let's go home because I like it at home."

0:20:04 > 0:20:06But I know Pete won't have given up yet.

0:20:11 > 0:20:14With Aussie homes looking overpriced and underwhelming,

0:20:14 > 0:20:17it's not the start Peter was hoping for.

0:20:17 > 0:20:21But Nicky seemed much happier to receive bad news.

0:20:21 > 0:20:26After an early setback, it's vital that Perth can offer good job prospects for Peter.

0:20:27 > 0:20:33In the UK, Peter works as an electrical engineer on large industrial projects.

0:20:33 > 0:20:36He has a secure job with a successful company.

0:20:36 > 0:20:40But like many in the UK, the recession has made him worry about the future

0:20:40 > 0:20:44and pushed him to apply for a visa to work in Australia.

0:20:44 > 0:20:46I'd say over the last four or five years,

0:20:46 > 0:20:49it's been appalling in the construction industry.

0:20:49 > 0:20:54It's a weekly occurrence we hear about companies that are closing, and it's really tough.

0:20:54 > 0:20:57With question marks over his long-term prospects,

0:20:57 > 0:21:01Peter's hoping that Australia will give more opportunities

0:21:01 > 0:21:03to progress his career.

0:21:03 > 0:21:06Nicky currently manages a call centre,

0:21:06 > 0:21:11but if they move, the plan would be for her to stay at home and help settle the children.

0:21:11 > 0:21:14Also, they're considering sending them to a private school,

0:21:14 > 0:21:17increasing the strain on Peter's income.

0:21:18 > 0:21:20There's a certain salary that we've got in mind

0:21:20 > 0:21:23that if he doesn't get a job offer of that salary,

0:21:23 > 0:21:26I just don't think we can afford to go.

0:21:26 > 0:21:28It's no good going for the same standard of living.

0:21:28 > 0:21:31It's got to be better. It's got to feel better.

0:21:31 > 0:21:35And I've got to earn enough money to provide all that.

0:21:36 > 0:21:38With so much resting on Peter's job,

0:21:38 > 0:21:43we've arranged for him to spend the day at a local electrical engineering company.

0:21:43 > 0:21:45He's met by Tim, one of the managers,

0:21:45 > 0:21:48who'll be showing him around the site.

0:21:48 > 0:21:53This is our estimating department. We've got the project director, one of the estimators here.

0:21:53 > 0:21:56- Through here is one of the jobs we're currently looking at... - Excellent.

0:21:56 > 0:21:58..which is a hospital development.

0:21:58 > 0:22:01- There's a lot of work around at the moment, which is good.- Good news.

0:22:03 > 0:22:07As well as covering schools and hospitals in Perth,

0:22:07 > 0:22:13the company also provides electrics for Western Australia's mining, oil and gas industries.

0:22:13 > 0:22:15But there is a downside.

0:22:15 > 0:22:18The sites are spread out over huge distances,

0:22:18 > 0:22:22so some staff - known as "fly-in fly-out workers" -

0:22:22 > 0:22:26spend days living and working on site, then fly home to rest.

0:22:26 > 0:22:30So, how does mining and working up in the northwest appeal to you?

0:22:30 > 0:22:33Er, it's something I've considered.

0:22:33 > 0:22:36I've looked at the fly-in fly-out, the different rosters

0:22:36 > 0:22:38and the opportunity that provides.

0:22:38 > 0:22:43Obviously, it's a lot tougher on the family side of things, you're away from home,

0:22:43 > 0:22:45but the benefits are financial.

0:22:45 > 0:22:47It's definitely something that I'd consider.

0:22:47 > 0:22:51- Have you got a good understanding of the distance involved in travelling? - Yes.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54- You use planes like we use buses! - Exactly!

0:22:54 > 0:22:57While Peter explores his work prospects,

0:22:57 > 0:23:00Nicky has taken the children to a local school

0:23:00 > 0:23:05to see if private education could be an option in Australia.

0:23:07 > 0:23:11I've done a lot of research on the schools, and this is the one that we really liked the look of.

0:23:11 > 0:23:14I wanted to get a look at it,

0:23:14 > 0:23:17meet some of the staff and just get a feel for the place.

0:23:17 > 0:23:21Head teacher Dawn Clements is on-hand to show them around.

0:23:21 > 0:23:27We do cricket and we do soccer and we do allsorts of other sports.

0:23:27 > 0:23:30- I really like cricket. - You really like cricket?

0:23:30 > 0:23:32Well, Australians are very good at cricket,

0:23:32 > 0:23:36so that is definitely one sport that we do like to do!

0:23:36 > 0:23:38At nearly £6,000 a year,

0:23:38 > 0:23:41private school could be a strain on the family budget,

0:23:41 > 0:23:44so it has to be worth it.

0:23:44 > 0:23:47What do you think about the size of it, guys?

0:23:47 > 0:23:50- It's massive.- It's absolutely huge. - It is, isn't it?

0:23:50 > 0:23:56We've got about 850 students in the high school here.

0:23:56 > 0:24:00And in the primary school, we've got about 450, rounded off.

0:24:00 > 0:24:03- That doesn't put you off, does it? - CHILDREN: No.

0:24:03 > 0:24:06- It seems like a really lovely school. - I can't wait till year seven

0:24:06 > 0:24:10because I really want to get into that design and enterprises,

0:24:10 > 0:24:13- because I really like making things. - Looks good.

0:24:13 > 0:24:17- What did you like about it, Ruby? - I just really like it because it's so big.

0:24:17 > 0:24:19- And the library looked nice, didn't it?- Yes.

0:24:19 > 0:24:22If we do come, we need to get your names on the waiting list.

0:24:22 > 0:24:24Because it's such a good school,

0:24:24 > 0:24:28you've got to wait until there's a place available.

0:24:28 > 0:24:30It sounds like everyone's been impressed.

0:24:30 > 0:24:34But it all depends on how much Peter can earn.

0:24:34 > 0:24:37With his tour over, he's met by Tim's colleague Adrian,

0:24:37 > 0:24:40who emigrated to Perth three years ago.

0:24:40 > 0:24:43He should be able to address Peter's big concerns.

0:24:43 > 0:24:46Looking at your CV, there's plenty of jobs here.

0:24:46 > 0:24:49And for somebody of your skills and background,

0:24:49 > 0:24:53you'd probably be looking at 140 to 150 for a package.

0:24:53 > 0:24:55Oh, right. That's excellent.

0:24:55 > 0:24:59That's, erm, probably a little bit more than I was expecting.

0:24:59 > 0:25:01A salary close to £100,000

0:25:01 > 0:25:04could offer a big jump in his income,

0:25:04 > 0:25:09but it could well mean spending time away from home as a fly-in fly-out worker.

0:25:09 > 0:25:12So, are the benefits worth it?

0:25:12 > 0:25:15We do have a relocation package, as well,

0:25:15 > 0:25:19because we realise we need to bring people from further afield to come into Australia.

0:25:19 > 0:25:25I never even expected that. That's 100 percent on top of what I'd, you know...

0:25:25 > 0:25:28I was expecting to do everything off my own back.

0:25:28 > 0:25:30It's been a positive morning for Peter.

0:25:30 > 0:25:32With so much riding on his salary,

0:25:32 > 0:25:36has finding out he'd be able to earn a lot more in Australia

0:25:36 > 0:25:39made up for the disappointments of house-hunting?

0:25:39 > 0:25:44It's definitely reassured me that A, there is plenty of work out there

0:25:44 > 0:25:47and B, the companies are looking to positively recruit

0:25:47 > 0:25:50and they do want people.

0:25:50 > 0:25:53Based on today's outcome, my vote is...

0:25:57 > 0:25:59..Australia.

0:25:59 > 0:26:02The salary meets my expectations.

0:26:02 > 0:26:04The overall package looks good.

0:26:09 > 0:26:12That's a very happy Peter Kennedy.

0:26:12 > 0:26:17His work prospects look to have put his dream firmly back on track.

0:26:17 > 0:26:21But persuading Nicky to give up the home she loves will be a lot harder

0:26:21 > 0:26:24if they can't get a good price for it.

0:26:24 > 0:26:29The Kennedys think their house is worth £375,000.

0:26:29 > 0:26:34But is that achievable? We sent two estate agents round to give their opinions.

0:26:34 > 0:26:38Nice flooring. Nice doors.

0:26:40 > 0:26:43Nice kitchen. Granite tops.

0:26:43 > 0:26:47And then out onto the garden at the back...

0:26:48 > 0:26:51- You did that picture, Rubes. - "Nice little room for the kids."

0:26:51 > 0:26:53BABY MURMURS

0:26:53 > 0:26:55Is that lady going in our house?

0:26:55 > 0:26:58Lovely-sized dining room. Beautiful.

0:27:00 > 0:27:02Where's she going now?

0:27:02 > 0:27:04Aww, this is lovely!

0:27:04 > 0:27:07This is a really lovely little nursery.

0:27:07 > 0:27:10But the bedroom is a very good size, so when their baby does grow

0:27:10 > 0:27:14it's a big enough bedroom for the child to grow into.

0:27:14 > 0:27:17Aw, this is lovely. This is a lovely size.

0:27:17 > 0:27:20Very nice, with the en suite hidden away.

0:27:20 > 0:27:24Aw, the princess bedroom! This is every girl's dream.

0:27:24 > 0:27:27This is lovely. Again, a lovely-size bedroom.

0:27:27 > 0:27:29- Do you think it looks nice, Rubes? - Yes.

0:27:29 > 0:27:31What a great-size room.

0:27:31 > 0:27:34Great to play up here.

0:27:34 > 0:27:37And a fantastic view over the garden. Very nice.

0:27:39 > 0:27:42"I would put an asking price on in the current market place,

0:27:42 > 0:27:44"we've got to be realistic,

0:27:44 > 0:27:47I think 385 would be a good place to start.

0:27:47 > 0:27:50I think if anyone claimed close to 360,

0:27:50 > 0:27:53in this current market place, it should be looked at.

0:27:53 > 0:27:56I believe the marketing price for this property

0:27:56 > 0:27:58should be around the 350,000 mark.

0:27:58 > 0:28:01If the family do need to sell quickly, they could reduce that.

0:28:01 > 0:28:05I guess somewhere in between both of those valuations

0:28:05 > 0:28:07would be good.

0:28:07 > 0:28:11I don't think any of the properties we saw...

0:28:11 > 0:28:13- ..are half as good at that.- No.

0:28:13 > 0:28:17I'd find it really difficult to leave that house.

0:28:17 > 0:28:20And I suppose what's more difficult is,

0:28:20 > 0:28:25I've not seen anything over here that's made me want to sell it.

0:28:25 > 0:28:28It's not going well for Peter.

0:28:28 > 0:28:31Watching that DVD seems to have only reminded Nicky

0:28:31 > 0:28:35just how much she loves their UK home and lifestyle.

0:28:35 > 0:28:39Peter really needs to show her the advantages of emigrating.

0:28:39 > 0:28:40While the children play,

0:28:40 > 0:28:44Mum and Dad get to see if there'd be any financial benefits.

0:28:44 > 0:28:45We've prepared some figures

0:28:45 > 0:28:48so they can compare the living costs.

0:28:48 > 0:28:52Peppers... That's a bit odd. They look more expensive.

0:28:52 > 0:28:54Nappies are about the same price.

0:28:54 > 0:28:56So, how would that affect their weekly food bill?

0:28:56 > 0:28:58£24...

0:28:58 > 0:29:02- So about 20 percent. - It's better than I thought, actually.

0:29:02 > 0:29:04So now onto the property.

0:29:04 > 0:29:08The three that we saw, we wouldn't buy any of them,

0:29:08 > 0:29:12but if we use the 850 as a benchmark...

0:29:12 > 0:29:14With a 300,000 deposit,

0:29:14 > 0:29:17- you'd be looking at monthly payments of 1,693.- Pounds.

0:29:17 > 0:29:20- Which does sound really high.- Yes.

0:29:20 > 0:29:25That's an increase of nearly £1,500 a month in mortgage payments.

0:29:25 > 0:29:28How much would that leave in their wallet?

0:29:28 > 0:29:30Equals...

0:29:30 > 0:29:32Gosh.

0:29:32 > 0:29:35£1,412.

0:29:35 > 0:29:38Have you got that right?!

0:29:38 > 0:29:40You haven't got school fees on there, have you?

0:29:40 > 0:29:46It was looking very promising, but could those schooling costs push them into the red?

0:29:46 > 0:29:49We'd be £800 a month...

0:29:49 > 0:29:50..better off.

0:29:50 > 0:29:53That's just the financial side of it, though.

0:29:53 > 0:29:56- There's more to it than that. - Oh, yes.

0:29:56 > 0:29:59£800 left over a month is quite a result.

0:29:59 > 0:30:03And the Kennedys could have more to spend on a house than they'd budgeted for.

0:30:03 > 0:30:08So, have they been tempted by the financial gains they could make? It's time to vote.

0:30:08 > 0:30:12Based on the cost of living, taking all things into consideration,

0:30:12 > 0:30:14the vote today is...

0:30:20 > 0:30:22..Australia.

0:30:23 > 0:30:24Australia.

0:30:24 > 0:30:28We could come over here and live on one salary,

0:30:28 > 0:30:31have a really nice lifestyle. You can't argue with that.

0:30:31 > 0:30:36- So I'm basing my vote on that... - Yes, the figures.

0:30:36 > 0:30:40..on the fact that the salaries and the cost of living

0:30:40 > 0:30:44would mean we could have a good lifestyle over here.

0:30:48 > 0:30:52Nicky's vote for Oz was exactly what Peter was hoping for.

0:30:52 > 0:30:56And if the famous outdoor Aussie lifestyle can prove just as rewarding,

0:30:56 > 0:31:00his plans for a new life could be one step closer.

0:31:04 > 0:31:10Having plenty of quality time together as a family is very important to the Kennedys.

0:31:11 > 0:31:14So to see what kinds of things they could get up to in Australia,

0:31:14 > 0:31:20they're spending a day on the beach having a surfing lesson.

0:31:20 > 0:31:22I'm feeling really excited

0:31:22 > 0:31:26because I really want to fall in the sea and get all wet.

0:31:26 > 0:31:31I'm really nervous because I've never, ever been able to stand up on a skateboard.

0:31:31 > 0:31:36- We're not doing skateboards. - I know, but Dad says it's the same but on the sea.

0:31:36 > 0:31:38While Nicky and Jude keep their feet dry,

0:31:38 > 0:31:41Peter and the children get started on the basics.

0:31:41 > 0:31:43That looks good, Joe. Nice.

0:31:45 > 0:31:50We'll run through that a couple more times and then we'll hit the water.

0:31:51 > 0:31:56When you think that they could come down most days and do this,

0:31:56 > 0:31:59it does make you think that it's an option we should be considering.

0:31:59 > 0:32:03It is absolutely amazing. Really good.

0:32:03 > 0:32:05Go on, Ruby!

0:32:05 > 0:32:07Whoo! Go on!

0:32:08 > 0:32:14It's just reaffirming what I think it's going to be like.

0:32:14 > 0:32:16When you see the kids enjoying themselves,

0:32:16 > 0:32:20doing something they've never done before, it's good. Great.

0:32:20 > 0:32:23I just need to convince Mum that Australia's the place for the family

0:32:23 > 0:32:27because me, Joe and Dad all want to live here.

0:32:27 > 0:32:29I bet Jude does, as well.

0:32:29 > 0:32:32So we all need to persuade Mum so she'll let us

0:32:32 > 0:32:37and then we can live here and do this on the weekend.

0:32:37 > 0:32:41It looks as if the pressure is growing on Nicky.

0:32:41 > 0:32:45But despite her worries, she can see the positives in emigrating.

0:32:45 > 0:32:48It was really nice to see them out in the sunshine

0:32:48 > 0:32:51and in the sea, enjoying themselves.

0:32:51 > 0:32:54But then that makes it even harder for me, really,

0:32:54 > 0:32:58because I can see why this would be the right move for them,

0:32:58 > 0:33:00but it doesn't really make me want to do it any more.

0:33:00 > 0:33:03I'm sure Nicky will come to her own decision.

0:33:03 > 0:33:08But it's going to be ups and downs. This is one of the ups, obviously.

0:33:08 > 0:33:11I like the life that I've got in York and my home.

0:33:11 > 0:33:15I like where we live, friends, family, everything.

0:33:15 > 0:33:21But I also wonder if I'm a little bit too old to start again, erm,

0:33:21 > 0:33:25you know, in a place where we don't know anybody.

0:33:25 > 0:33:29I think the thought of starting again is really scary.

0:33:29 > 0:33:30I want to make the right decision for them,

0:33:30 > 0:33:34but it needs to be the right decision for me, as well.

0:33:35 > 0:33:38- How was that, then? - Really good.- Amazing!

0:33:38 > 0:33:41- Did you really enjoy it? - Yes. Amazing.

0:33:41 > 0:33:46Has seeing how much the family enjoyed the Australian lifestyle helped change Nicky's mind?

0:33:46 > 0:33:50If not, this could be another blow to Peter and the children's dream

0:33:50 > 0:33:53of moving Down Under.

0:33:53 > 0:33:55Today we've been surfing

0:33:55 > 0:33:58and we've had a really good time.

0:33:58 > 0:34:03Based on that lifestyle activity, we have decided to vote for...

0:34:11 > 0:34:13..Australia!

0:34:13 > 0:34:15Australia!

0:34:15 > 0:34:18I base that decision on Pete and the kids

0:34:18 > 0:34:21and the day out that they've had,

0:34:21 > 0:34:24and what is obviously a much nicer lifestyle.

0:34:24 > 0:34:30It was a no-brainer for me today because I liked being outside, just messing about.

0:34:30 > 0:34:34It's something we don't normally get to do in the UK, so it was great.

0:34:34 > 0:34:40A clean sweep of votes is a real testament to the Aussie lifestyle.

0:34:40 > 0:34:44Even so, it seems Nicky hasn't been completely won over yet.

0:34:44 > 0:34:46I loved it today!

0:34:46 > 0:34:49I know, but the thing is, Joe, it has to be right for everybody.

0:34:49 > 0:34:52Everyone has to be happy, do you know what I mean?

0:35:00 > 0:35:05Another vote for Perth is more good news for Peter and two very happy young Kennedys.

0:35:05 > 0:35:09Is Nicky really coming round to the idea of a new life Down Under?

0:35:09 > 0:35:12Facing her fear of leaving loved ones behind

0:35:12 > 0:35:14could be make or break.

0:35:16 > 0:35:21We've prepared a DVD of messages from family and friends back in the UK

0:35:21 > 0:35:25to give the Kennedys an idea of their thoughts.

0:35:26 > 0:35:29- Are you sure you want to watch this? - Yes.

0:35:29 > 0:35:33- You won't be too upset?- No. - BOTH: OK.- No, I'll watch it.- Cool.

0:35:33 > 0:35:35"Hi! Hope you're having a great week."

0:35:35 > 0:35:38- ALL: Hi, guys.- Hope you're having a really good time!

0:35:38 > 0:35:40"I hope you're not getting too much of a sun tan."

0:35:40 > 0:35:43- Hi, guys.- Hi, Pete. Hi, Nicky. How are you doing?

0:35:43 > 0:35:46Hi, kids. I hope you're doing well out there.

0:35:46 > 0:35:49"And I hope it's not too hot for you."

0:35:49 > 0:35:51Nicky's such a genuine person.

0:35:51 > 0:35:55I don't think there's many people that you really meet in life

0:35:55 > 0:36:01that you feel is someone who's a real genuine individual but a really good friend, as well.

0:36:01 > 0:36:04Peter's always been...

0:36:04 > 0:36:07..a bit of a lad, really!

0:36:07 > 0:36:09SHE LAUGHS

0:36:09 > 0:36:12He gets something in his head and he goes down that path.

0:36:12 > 0:36:16It's been about six, seven years Pete's been talking about it,

0:36:16 > 0:36:21but we didn't really think that he'd go this far.

0:36:21 > 0:36:25But Nicky has never really been that keen about going.

0:36:25 > 0:36:27She's the only child,

0:36:27 > 0:36:30so leaving her mum would be really upsetting for her.

0:36:30 > 0:36:33We didn't really know how serious he was about it.

0:36:33 > 0:36:36We just thought it was something he was investigating

0:36:36 > 0:36:39and not really sure that he was 100 percent about it.

0:36:39 > 0:36:45I'm not quite sure whether I agree with them going to Australia.

0:36:45 > 0:36:51I think they can only do what is best for the children

0:36:51 > 0:36:54and that's the only thing I ask of them.

0:36:54 > 0:36:58I think myself and Pete, we've known each other for long enough now

0:36:58 > 0:37:01if we don't see each other for two months or two years...

0:37:01 > 0:37:03- He's not bothered! - ..we'd pick up where we left off.

0:37:03 > 0:37:06I think the thing that we'll miss is the children growing up.

0:37:06 > 0:37:09I thought our kids would grow up together like me and Nicky have.

0:37:09 > 0:37:15I'll miss him because he, erm, he's like a good friend.

0:37:15 > 0:37:21- "You'll miss them a lot, won't you?" - "I've known him since I was born. And Ruby, too."

0:37:21 > 0:37:24I don't think the reality's set in for me.

0:37:24 > 0:37:29When she actually goes, that's when I will realise just how much I'll miss her.

0:37:29 > 0:37:33As it stands now, they've got everything going for them here,

0:37:33 > 0:37:35apart from the climate, I presume.

0:37:35 > 0:37:37I'm really going to miss you, fella.

0:37:37 > 0:37:41We've had some good times. Erm, yes...

0:37:41 > 0:37:43Bad news to see you go, mate.

0:37:43 > 0:37:46"Nicky, I'm really, really going to miss you."

0:37:46 > 0:37:51I don't think you realise just how much of a great friend you've been to me

0:37:51 > 0:37:55and how much of a loss you're going to be.

0:37:55 > 0:38:01We're going to miss Sunday dinners, coming to the caravan parties.

0:38:01 > 0:38:05"And we're going to miss you so, so much."

0:38:06 > 0:38:08And I hope you're having a nice time.

0:38:08 > 0:38:13The selfish part of me is hoping you're going to say no. But who knows...

0:38:13 > 0:38:19"Maybe you've gone out there and absolutely loved it and you want to go."

0:38:19 > 0:38:22"I'm going to miss you to bits and I don't know what I'm going to do without you."

0:38:22 > 0:38:27You're like a sister to me and we've just always been there for each other.

0:38:27 > 0:38:31That's all I can say because I'm going to get upset!

0:38:34 > 0:38:38- What did you think? - I wanted Grandma to be on there.

0:38:38 > 0:38:42- Grandma Jill? Grandma Jill's too upset to be on there.- She's too sad.

0:38:42 > 0:38:46That's always been the worry for me,

0:38:46 > 0:38:48leaving, erm, my mum

0:38:48 > 0:38:52and some of those... our friends there.

0:38:52 > 0:38:56So, erm... And that's not gone away.

0:38:56 > 0:39:00Whatever's happened this week,

0:39:00 > 0:39:04my mum and our friends are still always at the back of your mind...

0:39:05 > 0:39:07..even if we can afford to live here.

0:39:07 > 0:39:11What did you think, Joe? Are you a bit upset? Which bit upset you?

0:39:11 > 0:39:16- When they were saying about Max and Sam.- Oh, I know.

0:39:16 > 0:39:20You would make new friends out here. You know that, don't you? Don't let that upset you.

0:39:20 > 0:39:23- You're not upset, Rubes? - No! I'm definitely not upset!

0:39:23 > 0:39:28- Do you feel differently now, Joe? - Because you've been up for it all the way through.

0:39:28 > 0:39:30Are you staying in England with me? OK.

0:39:30 > 0:39:34- I'm coming to Australia. - With me? Fantastic.

0:39:34 > 0:39:37It's not what Peter wanted.

0:39:37 > 0:39:42It seems the family are even more uncertain about emigrating than before.

0:39:46 > 0:39:50Watching messages has left the Kennedys divided about their future plans.

0:39:50 > 0:39:52So with their week over,

0:39:52 > 0:39:57and having seen how much they stand to gain and lose by moving to Australia,

0:39:57 > 0:39:59which way will they vote?

0:40:01 > 0:40:06After a week full of ups and downs, there's still a lot to weigh up.

0:40:06 > 0:40:07There is pressure on me,

0:40:07 > 0:40:09because it would make it easy all round

0:40:09 > 0:40:14if I could just turn round and say that I was happy to come and...

0:40:14 > 0:40:16..pack up home and come and live here.

0:40:16 > 0:40:20Obviously, there's practicalities to sort out and all the boring stuff,

0:40:20 > 0:40:24but I could quite easily see myself staying here and making a go of it.

0:40:24 > 0:40:30And, you know, I'd work as hard as I needed to do to make it all perfect.

0:40:30 > 0:40:33I've really liked doing all the different activities,

0:40:33 > 0:40:36I like the lifestyle and the houses.

0:40:36 > 0:40:39The only thing I think it's missing

0:40:39 > 0:40:44is all my friends from England, really.

0:40:44 > 0:40:47I feel for Nicky, actually. I think she'll be quite torn

0:40:47 > 0:40:51between what she wants for the kids, but also, she's got to think about herself.

0:40:51 > 0:40:55It is a big decision because there's nothing pushing us away from the UK.

0:40:55 > 0:40:57Everything's great over there.

0:40:57 > 0:41:00I'm convinced that the kids and Pete could be happy,

0:41:00 > 0:41:06but for me, I still don't know that it's the place for me.

0:41:06 > 0:41:09If Mum picks the UK, I'm going to be really upset

0:41:09 > 0:41:12because I do want to live in Australia,

0:41:12 > 0:41:15because I want to have a new life.

0:41:15 > 0:41:17Is it enough that the children and Pete are happy?

0:41:17 > 0:41:21Should that be enough for me to do it,

0:41:21 > 0:41:23or do I need to be happy, as well?

0:41:23 > 0:41:26It's the end of their week in Australia

0:41:26 > 0:41:31and time for the Kennedys to make their crucial final decision.

0:41:31 > 0:41:34Will they choose to make a new start Down Under

0:41:34 > 0:41:38or stick with the life they know in the UK?

0:41:38 > 0:41:40Based on this trial week in Australia,

0:41:40 > 0:41:43we have decided to vote for...

0:41:48 > 0:41:50PETE, RUBY AND JOE: Australia!

0:41:50 > 0:41:52NICKY: UK.

0:41:53 > 0:41:55Sorry, guys.

0:41:55 > 0:41:57PETE GROANS GOOD-NATUREDLY

0:41:57 > 0:42:02At that moment, inside, I felt Australia was right for me.

0:42:02 > 0:42:06I voted Australia because nothing's changed.

0:42:06 > 0:42:08It's reinforced what I initially felt.

0:42:08 > 0:42:11I wanted to come, I wanted to try it

0:42:11 > 0:42:14and I've found no reason, personally, why I shouldn't.

0:42:14 > 0:42:17That's just my personal opinion and personal vote.

0:42:17 > 0:42:20I've always said that I'm happy with our life in the UK,

0:42:20 > 0:42:23but I came to Australia with an open mind.

0:42:23 > 0:42:26Although it's been lovely, I haven't found enough to make me...

0:42:26 > 0:42:29..make the decision to come and live here.

0:42:29 > 0:42:33I wasn't happy that Mum voted the UK

0:42:33 > 0:42:40because I wanted all of us, erm, to want to live here.

0:42:40 > 0:42:43I've got to vote for what I think and how I feel,

0:42:43 > 0:42:45and that's how I'm feeling.

0:42:52 > 0:42:54Choosing to emigrate is never easy

0:42:54 > 0:42:57but when the pull of home is so strong,

0:42:57 > 0:43:00it's often a risk that's simply too big to take.

0:43:00 > 0:43:05Wherever their journey takes them, we wish the Kennedys the very best of luck.
