0:00:02 > 0:00:06Building a future with your partner is one of life's great adventures

0:00:06 > 0:00:10but if you don't agree on which side of the world to share it,

0:00:10 > 0:00:12it can test even the strongest relationship.

0:00:14 > 0:00:17Dylan Bowen has long been on a mission

0:00:17 > 0:00:19to persuade his wife to emigrate.

0:00:19 > 0:00:21After a couple of years, I started saying,

0:00:21 > 0:00:24"Well, maybe we should move to Australia." And she was

0:00:24 > 0:00:28always against the idea because she didn't want to leave her family.

0:00:28 > 0:00:32But for Lindsey Bowen Australia would be a huge gamble.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34I don't want to say that the dream would be over if I couldn't

0:00:34 > 0:00:40get a job but I think it would make things a lot more difficult for us.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42And if either one votes no...

0:00:42 > 0:00:44We are a team and if one of us

0:00:44 > 0:00:46doesn't come then neither of us come.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15From home, Australia can look like paradise

0:01:15 > 0:01:18with its sun-kissed golden beaches and blue skies.

0:01:20 > 0:01:24Each year, thousands of Brits emigrate down under.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27But it is not a voyage that works out for everyone

0:01:27 > 0:01:31and many end up travelling full circle right back to the UK.

0:01:32 > 0:01:33Over the next week,

0:01:33 > 0:01:37the Bowen's will get to experience the reality of living in Australia.

0:01:37 > 0:01:41At the end of it, they will face a life-changing decision -

0:01:41 > 0:01:44whether to stay in the UK or to make the move for good.

0:01:47 > 0:01:51After a journey of 10,000 miles, the Bowens arrive in Brisbane.

0:01:53 > 0:01:5625 hours in the air has given them plenty of time

0:01:56 > 0:01:58for some serious thinking.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00I had quite a few thoughts on this trip,

0:02:00 > 0:02:03just thinking about family and especially my mum and dad.

0:02:03 > 0:02:05Thinking, "Are they going to be able to do this trip

0:02:05 > 0:02:06"and come out and see us?"

0:02:06 > 0:02:10So that was going through my mind all the time.

0:02:10 > 0:02:14This is now or never, I think. So, yeah, it's going to be a good week.

0:02:14 > 0:02:18It's going to be a tough week but we are really looking forward to it.

0:02:21 > 0:02:24Back in the UK, the Bowens live in Cardiff.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28They are Dylan, a public affairs manager,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31and Lindsey, a primary school teacher.

0:02:32 > 0:02:36In his single days, Dylan visited Australia several times

0:02:36 > 0:02:38and long dreamt of living there.

0:02:40 > 0:02:41But after meeting and marrying Lindsey,

0:02:41 > 0:02:44he hoped his dream might be big enough for two.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49I met Lindsey about six months after I came back from Australia

0:02:49 > 0:02:53for my second trip and we didn't really talk about it straightaway

0:02:53 > 0:02:55but after a couple of years I started saying,

0:02:55 > 0:02:58"Well, maybe we should move to Australia,

0:02:58 > 0:02:59"start thinking about doing that."

0:02:59 > 0:03:01And she was always against the idea

0:03:01 > 0:03:05because she didn't want to leave her family.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07So we took a holiday out there and she actually loved it

0:03:07 > 0:03:11and came back and said, "Yeah, I'm ready to go for it."

0:03:11 > 0:03:14I did love it and, yeah, I felt quite sad, actually, when we left.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17We left Sydney and I felt I wanted to stay

0:03:17 > 0:03:20and I wanted to do more there and see more.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22As time has progressed, it's then that you start thinking about,

0:03:22 > 0:03:25well, we have got to leave the friends and family,

0:03:25 > 0:03:28she's got to get a job out there and that decision is more difficult

0:03:28 > 0:03:32than your initial one where she just said, "Yeah, let's just go for it."

0:03:32 > 0:03:36He also picked up some familiar Aussie habits while on holiday.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39Pretty much, if I've got any free time on the weekends,

0:03:39 > 0:03:42I try to go surfing as much as possible.

0:03:42 > 0:03:44It is difficult in this country.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46The surf is not very consistent, you know.

0:03:46 > 0:03:49We don't get big swells that often

0:03:49 > 0:03:52and the wind can ruin the surf if the swell does come in

0:03:52 > 0:03:55so we just sit in the car thinking about what could have been.

0:03:55 > 0:03:59So, in Australia, the surf is a lot better, a lot more consistent

0:03:59 > 0:04:02and, you know, hopefully I will be surfing a couple of times

0:04:02 > 0:04:05a week there as opposed to a couple of times a month over here.

0:04:05 > 0:04:08I do believe that we will have a better life out there.

0:04:08 > 0:04:10I have no doubts in that respect.

0:04:10 > 0:04:17It's the difficulty of leaving family, friends and them being left

0:04:17 > 0:04:22without us as well, of their lives going on and us not being part of it.

0:04:23 > 0:04:26Lindsey is very close to her mum and sister.

0:04:26 > 0:04:28They see each other almost daily

0:04:28 > 0:04:32and leaving them behind is a painful prospect.

0:04:32 > 0:04:33One minute I'm thinking,

0:04:33 > 0:04:36"Yeah, this is the right thing to do. It's going to be amazing.

0:04:36 > 0:04:39"It's going to be fantastic." The next minute I am thinking,

0:04:39 > 0:04:42"You know, my mum and dad are going to be left without us.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45"I'm not going to be able to see my niece or my nephew

0:04:45 > 0:04:48"or my sister or my friends. We are going to be lonely."

0:04:48 > 0:04:53So, really, the emotions are going all over the place at the moment.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56I talk to friends who say that they could never leave

0:04:56 > 0:04:58because they couldn't leave their family behind

0:04:58 > 0:05:00and I completely empathise with that decision.

0:05:00 > 0:05:04That's not something that really, really holds me back

0:05:04 > 0:05:07but I understand how difficult it is for Lindsey.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11And there is another consideration.

0:05:11 > 0:05:13We would like to start thinking about a family

0:05:13 > 0:05:17and ideally I would really like to start that family in Australia.

0:05:17 > 0:05:20We have put it off because we have been hoping to go

0:05:20 > 0:05:21and I can't even imagine

0:05:21 > 0:05:23taking grandchildren away from my mum and dad

0:05:23 > 0:05:28cos I see how they are with my sister's children now.

0:05:28 > 0:05:31I just couldn't do it.

0:05:31 > 0:05:34Leaving her career is another huge challenge for Lindsey.

0:05:34 > 0:05:38I work with an amazing group of people so it's going to be

0:05:38 > 0:05:42really hard to go out there and find that again in a school.

0:05:42 > 0:05:44You know, my expectations are high.

0:05:44 > 0:05:47To put myself out there, I have to get a teaching job,

0:05:47 > 0:05:52I have to make sure that we have got one secure income coming in

0:05:52 > 0:05:56so I do feel a lot of pressure on my shoulders in that respect.

0:05:56 > 0:06:00And Dylan's work plans could increase the strain on both of them.

0:06:00 > 0:06:04My plans for Australia are just to do something completely different.

0:06:04 > 0:06:07At the moment, I'm thinking about starting my own business.

0:06:07 > 0:06:11I'd love to open a coffee shop. It is something I've done before.

0:06:11 > 0:06:12I think I could probably

0:06:12 > 0:06:14pull something off pretty good over there.

0:06:14 > 0:06:17I don't want to say that the dream would be over if I couldn't get a job

0:06:17 > 0:06:22but I think it would make things a lot more difficult for us.

0:06:22 > 0:06:25With so much at stake, the Bowens face a life-changing decision

0:06:25 > 0:06:29and Dylan knows his hopes rest in Lindsey's hands.

0:06:29 > 0:06:31For us to emigrate to Australia

0:06:31 > 0:06:33it really has got to get Lindsey on board with the idea.

0:06:33 > 0:06:35You know, she is a big part of the journey

0:06:35 > 0:06:39and I really need to get her around to the idea of going.

0:06:39 > 0:06:44Both Dylan and Lindsey want the best future for each other but until

0:06:44 > 0:06:47they can decide where that should be, all their plans are on hold.

0:06:47 > 0:06:49And, for one of them,

0:06:49 > 0:06:52it could mean making a choice that ends the other's dream.

0:06:54 > 0:06:56The Bowens will be staying in

0:06:56 > 0:06:59the Burleigh Heads suburb on Queensland's Gold Coast.

0:06:59 > 0:07:03It's south of the world-famous Surfers Paradise area,

0:07:03 > 0:07:07with plenty of golden beaches and rolling waves on hand,

0:07:07 > 0:07:11making it an ideal location for surf addicts like Dylan.

0:07:15 > 0:07:18Their home for the week is this two-bedroom apartment

0:07:18 > 0:07:20close to the beach.

0:07:20 > 0:07:24Hopefully it should be a great base for Dylan and Lindsey.

0:07:24 > 0:07:29- Oh, look at the view of the sea. Look at that.- Oh, my God.

0:07:29 > 0:07:33Surfers Paradise is that way. You couldn't get any closer to the sea.

0:07:33 > 0:07:36It's so light and airy, isn't it?

0:07:36 > 0:07:38That's a million-dollar view, that, isn't it?

0:07:38 > 0:07:41This is beachside living, isn't it? Wow.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44Oh, my gosh. It just stretches all the way across.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47- It's difficult to look in here when you have got that out there.- I know.

0:07:47 > 0:07:49Perfect.

0:07:49 > 0:07:51I think the Bowens like what they see.

0:07:51 > 0:07:56But even after a great start there's still some worries on the horizon.

0:07:56 > 0:07:59This week is about finding out where we can live

0:07:59 > 0:08:03and where we can work and just making sure that everything is right

0:08:03 > 0:08:06so that if we do make the decision that it's going to be Australia

0:08:06 > 0:08:10that we are 100% confident that it's the right thing to do.

0:08:10 > 0:08:13This could be real and it's going to be really, really hard.

0:08:13 > 0:08:15It's going to be a really, really tough decision.

0:08:20 > 0:08:22Back in the UK, the Bowens

0:08:22 > 0:08:26live in a two-bedroom rented flat near Mermaid Quay in Cardiff.

0:08:26 > 0:08:29They sold their own property a few years ago,

0:08:29 > 0:08:32believing they'd soon be heading to Australia.

0:08:32 > 0:08:35But with career and family worries holding them back,

0:08:35 > 0:08:38the move went on hold and now they're sitting on

0:08:38 > 0:08:43a large nest egg which they could invest in a new home down under.

0:08:43 > 0:08:48In Australia, our house budget will probably be around about £300,000.

0:08:48 > 0:08:50The main thing, for me, is that it has to be close to the beach

0:08:50 > 0:08:52and if that's a two-bedroom apartment

0:08:52 > 0:08:55or a four-bedroom house, I'm not really bothered.

0:08:55 > 0:08:57I would really like to have an area where

0:08:57 > 0:09:00I could wake up in the morning and just open the window or go out

0:09:00 > 0:09:04onto the terrace and see the beach and see the waves and the sea.

0:09:04 > 0:09:09And, again, really just somewhere airy and light.

0:09:09 > 0:09:12So, can Aussie homes live up to their hopes?

0:09:13 > 0:09:14Today we are giving the Bowens

0:09:14 > 0:09:17a taste of the Gold Coast housing market.

0:09:17 > 0:09:20We will show them three options based on what

0:09:20 > 0:09:24they want from their ideal home, what they can afford

0:09:24 > 0:09:26and the real cost of property down under.

0:09:26 > 0:09:29After seeing for themselves what's on offer,

0:09:29 > 0:09:31they will find out how much each house costs.

0:09:33 > 0:09:36All three properties the Bowens are reviewing today

0:09:36 > 0:09:40are near their rented accommodation in the suburb of Burleigh Heads.

0:09:43 > 0:09:46It's a popular area with active couples and families,

0:09:46 > 0:09:49offering a good mix of new builds and older properties.

0:09:49 > 0:09:51Close to the beach and cafe life,

0:09:51 > 0:09:54it should be tailor-made for the Bowens.

0:09:56 > 0:10:01The first stop is at Paradise Grove, a relatively new apartment block.

0:10:01 > 0:10:04But will it get the day off to a good start?

0:10:04 > 0:10:05Wow.

0:10:05 > 0:10:08- Straight into the main living area. - Yes.

0:10:08 > 0:10:12The communal areas were nice and tidy and well maintained.

0:10:12 > 0:10:18- Yeah, very nice. It's really spacious.- Check out the kitchen.

0:10:18 > 0:10:22Is this big enough for you? It's compact.

0:10:22 > 0:10:24Yes, I think it could do with a bit of a refresh.

0:10:24 > 0:10:26- Yes, it needs updating.- Yeah.

0:10:26 > 0:10:30- Definitely look at putting a new kitchen in.- Definitely.

0:10:30 > 0:10:34Despite needing to win Lindsey over, Dylan is sounding cautious.

0:10:34 > 0:10:37I think this is the deepest pile carpet I have walked on

0:10:37 > 0:10:39- since the 1970s. - It's bouncy, isn't it?

0:10:44 > 0:10:47- Wow.- That's beautiful. Look. And the birds.

0:10:47 > 0:10:48The sound of the birds is amazing.

0:10:48 > 0:10:54There's no sea view but then we are only a stone's throw away, aren't we?

0:10:54 > 0:10:58- Literally two minutes' walk down Burleigh Heads.- Yeah.

0:10:58 > 0:11:00That's one box ticked.

0:11:00 > 0:11:01You might need to crane your neck to see it

0:11:01 > 0:11:05but the beach is only minutes away.

0:11:05 > 0:11:08- We've got a bathroom here.- Yeah.

0:11:08 > 0:11:09It's an OK size.

0:11:11 > 0:11:14- I think this must be the master bedroom.- Yeah.

0:11:16 > 0:11:21- It's a little bit pokey.- Yeah. Not convinced by this here.

0:11:21 > 0:11:25So, yeah, it's good but I think it could do with a bit of TLC.

0:11:25 > 0:11:27Yeah, definitely.

0:11:28 > 0:11:30Bedroom number two.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33- Yeah, small again but, you know, just for guests.- Yeah.

0:11:33 > 0:11:35- It could fit a couple of nieces and nephews.- Yeah.

0:11:35 > 0:11:37- It would be handy having three bedrooms.- Oh, yeah.

0:11:37 > 0:11:40For people coming over, definitely.

0:11:40 > 0:11:44Space for visitors would be a real plus for Lindsey.

0:11:44 > 0:11:46This is a bit nicer room.

0:11:46 > 0:11:49Yeah, a bit bigger. Could fit a double bed in here, easily.

0:11:49 > 0:11:52- Guests or a nursery.- Yeah.

0:11:52 > 0:11:54And for new family members too.

0:11:55 > 0:11:59This apartment may not have bowled them over

0:11:59 > 0:12:02but it does seem to be the right size for Dylan and Lindsey.

0:12:03 > 0:12:05But with some redecorating needed,

0:12:05 > 0:12:08is it a project they are willing to take on?

0:12:08 > 0:12:11- Let's have a look at the price. - I have no idea how much it would be.

0:12:11 > 0:12:14- No.- No frame of reference whatsoever.- No.

0:12:14 > 0:12:17They have a budget of £300,000.

0:12:17 > 0:12:19- Do you want to do the honours?- OK.

0:12:23 > 0:12:26- Well, that's a lot less than I thought, actually.- Yeah.

0:12:26 > 0:12:32It's really, really fairly priced for where we are.

0:12:32 > 0:12:36I think I would prefer something that was a little bit bigger.

0:12:37 > 0:12:40We like living in an apartment but I just think to myself,

0:12:40 > 0:12:43"Do I want to be living in an apartment now for...?"

0:12:43 > 0:12:45It wouldn't have to be long-term, would it?

0:12:45 > 0:12:47I think it would be a good starting block for us.

0:12:47 > 0:12:50Yeah, I think you're right. The price seems pretty good.

0:12:50 > 0:12:54- I think we could comfortably afford that.- You're not blown away by it.

0:12:54 > 0:12:57I'm not blown away by it. But it's pretty good.

0:12:58 > 0:13:00This apartment may have been affordable

0:13:00 > 0:13:05but it looks like it simply isn't the right fit for the Bowens.

0:13:05 > 0:13:07So, will tempting Lindsey to Australia

0:13:07 > 0:13:09be any easier at the next home?

0:13:11 > 0:13:15The second stop is at an older house in Palm Beach.

0:13:15 > 0:13:20It's a prime location on the main road along the seafront,

0:13:20 > 0:13:22close to local shops and schools.

0:13:22 > 0:13:26Hopefully, ideal for a young couple looking to start a family.

0:13:27 > 0:13:31- Let's go on in.- Let's have a look. It's an older property.

0:13:31 > 0:13:34Yeah, it certainly is. Bedroom.

0:13:34 > 0:13:38- A bit neglected maybe or not looked after.- Yeah.

0:13:38 > 0:13:41- Is this the main bedroom?- Yeah. It needs a bit of TLC.

0:13:41 > 0:13:44- It needs a lot of TLC. - We could do that.

0:13:44 > 0:13:45I think the key with this house

0:13:45 > 0:13:48is maybe just to pull it down and start again.

0:13:48 > 0:13:51That's an idea.

0:13:51 > 0:13:52Lots of renovation.

0:13:52 > 0:13:56As sales pitches go, I think Dylan's may need a little polish.

0:13:58 > 0:14:01250 metres to the beach so it is prime location.

0:14:01 > 0:14:05Yeah, that's what you've got to think about and it's a project, isn't it?

0:14:05 > 0:14:09- Do we want to do a project as soon as we come over here?- Exactly.

0:14:09 > 0:14:12- It would be a lot to take on. - It would, yeah.

0:14:12 > 0:14:14I mean, it's nice to come and see a house.

0:14:14 > 0:14:17- This isn't the kind of house I would want to live in.- No.

0:14:17 > 0:14:19I'd rather keep on living in an apartment.

0:14:19 > 0:14:23And I am still hearing that road so, really, are we going to want to

0:14:23 > 0:14:29be just lazing around in the garden on a busy cross junction like this?

0:14:29 > 0:14:32Although this is close to the beach,

0:14:32 > 0:14:35- I think the specific location isn't quite right.- No.

0:14:35 > 0:14:38- I think we can rule this one out even before seeing the price.- Yeah.

0:14:38 > 0:14:43- Unless it's £50.- Yeah, which is highly unlikely. Yeah.

0:14:44 > 0:14:47Despite needing to sell his Aussie dream to Lindsey,

0:14:47 > 0:14:51it's Dylan who's looking underwhelmed

0:14:51 > 0:14:54and although this house would be big enough for visitors,

0:14:54 > 0:14:58the idea of renovating it simply isn't on the cards.

0:15:00 > 0:15:04So could its price do anything to change the Bowens' minds?

0:15:04 > 0:15:07- It's not an example of a house that we'd want to live in.- No.

0:15:07 > 0:15:10But good to see something else other than an apartment.

0:15:10 > 0:15:12- What do you think? - Let's have a little look.

0:15:14 > 0:15:17Yeah, I'm a bit surprised by that.

0:15:17 > 0:15:19I thought it would maybe be a bit less just

0:15:19 > 0:15:23because the property is in such a bad state but, you know,

0:15:23 > 0:15:26that must be how much land is around here.

0:15:26 > 0:15:27Yeah, it's got to be, isn't it?

0:15:27 > 0:15:31Maybe we could settle for being further away from the beach

0:15:31 > 0:15:34- but being elevated so we can see the beach.- Yeah.

0:15:34 > 0:15:40£279,000 would make this an expensive project to take on.

0:15:40 > 0:15:42Even if Dylan were willing.

0:15:42 > 0:15:46But Lindsey is sounding positive about finding a compromise.

0:15:46 > 0:15:49So could a more modern option be the one?

0:15:51 > 0:15:53The final property is in one of Burleigh Heads'

0:15:53 > 0:15:56newest apartment buildings, just 150 metres from the sea.

0:15:56 > 0:16:00That's a really funky, modern-looking building, isn't it?

0:16:00 > 0:16:03- Yeah, the design on it is beautiful. - It's great.

0:16:03 > 0:16:06- And the beach is right there. - Gorgeous, isn't it?

0:16:06 > 0:16:08I wonder what the inside will be like.

0:16:08 > 0:16:11- I think it's going to be very modern. - Yeah. Minimalist.- Yeah.

0:16:16 > 0:16:20- This is lovely and light and bright, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:16:20 > 0:16:24- It's beautiful. So modern. - Lovely big open space.

0:16:24 > 0:16:26- It has been finished nicely.- Yeah.

0:16:28 > 0:16:30You can see the sea from the balcony.

0:16:30 > 0:16:35- You can just see it, can't you?- Yeah. - Poking through. A little wave.

0:16:35 > 0:16:40- Yeah.- It's beautiful.- A really nice apartment. Well done, well laid out.

0:16:40 > 0:16:43That's sounding far more encouraging from everyone.

0:16:43 > 0:16:45Main bedroom here.

0:16:45 > 0:16:50Yeah. It's a lovely-sized bedroom. Oh, lovely.

0:16:51 > 0:16:55- Walk-in wardrobe.- There is a wardrobe in here and en suite.- Yeah. Lovely.

0:16:55 > 0:16:57Nice and clean and bright.

0:17:01 > 0:17:04Straight onto the balcony from the bedroom as well.

0:17:06 > 0:17:09Nice old day bed for chilling out on a Sunday morning.

0:17:09 > 0:17:12Yeah, I could picture us there reading.

0:17:12 > 0:17:16- And then dinner in the evening with that view.- This is what I pictured.

0:17:16 > 0:17:17This is what I imagined.

0:17:18 > 0:17:23- This is proper, you know, modern Australian living, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:17:23 > 0:17:25Nice clean lines. Minimalist.

0:17:25 > 0:17:30Really well set out, functional but stylish. Beautiful.

0:17:30 > 0:17:33It looks like the Bowens have finally found just what

0:17:33 > 0:17:35they were looking for.

0:17:35 > 0:17:38A nice second bedroom here as well.

0:17:38 > 0:17:41With only two bedrooms, this apartment may lack

0:17:41 > 0:17:45the space for visitors and a growing family but it has definitely

0:17:45 > 0:17:48impressed Dylan and Lindsey so what is the bottom line?

0:17:51 > 0:17:54- What do you think? - It's a great place.

0:17:54 > 0:17:56- I think we will be paying for the views here.- Yeah.

0:17:56 > 0:18:00Just because it is so modern, new building. I don't know. We'll see.

0:18:00 > 0:18:02- Shall we just turn it over?- Yeah.

0:18:04 > 0:18:09- Oh.- Oh.- We were hoping to have hardly any mortgage.

0:18:09 > 0:18:12I think we'd probably need to have a bit more of a mortgage here now.

0:18:12 > 0:18:14Yeah.

0:18:14 > 0:18:18Yeah, for this kind of property, I think we might do that.

0:18:18 > 0:18:20We don't spend way above our means anyway.

0:18:20 > 0:18:22It doesn't cost me anything to go surfing.

0:18:22 > 0:18:26Maybe a new board once a year but we live quite cheaply.

0:18:26 > 0:18:29We'll only be able to eat four nights a week, that's all.

0:18:32 > 0:18:37Seeing this property now and what we could have,

0:18:37 > 0:18:41we would have to stretch ourselves but I would be more than happy

0:18:41 > 0:18:44to stretch ourselves and be somewhere like this.

0:18:45 > 0:18:49I think it would make the transition over here a lot easier

0:18:49 > 0:18:52if we are living in a place like this and an environment where

0:18:52 > 0:18:57we really feel comfortable. It's really beautiful.

0:18:57 > 0:19:00After two failures, that's just the result Dylan was hoping for.

0:19:00 > 0:19:04However, Lindsey knows that affording it won't be easy.

0:19:04 > 0:19:06It does put the pressure on though,

0:19:06 > 0:19:10thinking, "Yeah, I'm going to have to be working and earning, you know,

0:19:10 > 0:19:15"a really good salary straightaway." So that is a bit of pressure.

0:19:16 > 0:19:20I feel very comfortable here.

0:19:20 > 0:19:23Good. Let's put an offer in.

0:19:24 > 0:19:27So after an up and down day of house hunting,

0:19:27 > 0:19:30it looks like Dylan's ready to get out the cheque book.

0:19:32 > 0:19:37The first property was affordable, near the beach and the right size

0:19:37 > 0:19:40but it didn't have the wow factor.

0:19:40 > 0:19:43Selling the second house to Lindsey was beyond even Dylan.

0:19:43 > 0:19:46In fact, he was ready to call in the bulldozers.

0:19:47 > 0:19:51But the final property was a Goldilocks home -

0:19:51 > 0:19:54just right for everyone despite its higher price tag.

0:19:54 > 0:19:58So have the Bowens been won over by Aussie homes?

0:19:58 > 0:20:00We had a really good day today.

0:20:00 > 0:20:02We've seen some really interesting properties.

0:20:02 > 0:20:06A real diverse set of properties, I think. And now it is time to vote.

0:20:15 > 0:20:17BOTH: Australia.

0:20:19 > 0:20:23- Yeah, Australia for you? - Australia for me.- Yeah. Good one.

0:20:23 > 0:20:26I loved those properties. Well, I loved the last property.

0:20:26 > 0:20:28Yeah, that is the dream.

0:20:28 > 0:20:33Having a property like that, being so close to the beach with the views.

0:20:33 > 0:20:36The whole property was just amazing

0:20:36 > 0:20:39so it was a really, really positive day.

0:20:39 > 0:20:42I feel optimistic after seeing the properties today

0:20:42 > 0:20:44just because how close they were to the beach

0:20:44 > 0:20:48and two of the properties we saw were literally five

0:20:48 > 0:20:51minutes from here and this is one of my favourite surf breaks,

0:20:51 > 0:20:54Burleigh Heads, so to be within a five minute walk of here is

0:20:54 > 0:20:56just a dream come true for me.

0:21:03 > 0:21:05After a day's house hunting,

0:21:05 > 0:21:08Lindsey's positivity is music to Dylan's ears.

0:21:08 > 0:21:11Even if his sales technique still needs a little bit more work.

0:21:11 > 0:21:14But their dream apartment isn't going to come cheap which

0:21:14 > 0:21:16puts the pressure on both of them

0:21:16 > 0:21:18to find good work opportunities in Australia.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25Back home, Dylan is a public affairs manager with a dream...

0:21:25 > 0:21:29It would be great to have, you know, a little coffee unit,

0:21:29 > 0:21:31just serving coffees out of a hatch, even.

0:21:31 > 0:21:34Something close to the beach where I could get a surf in the morning

0:21:34 > 0:21:36and serve some coffees for the day and then have another surf,

0:21:36 > 0:21:38you know, before I go home.

0:21:38 > 0:21:42..while Lindsey loves her job as a primary school teacher.

0:21:42 > 0:21:45I would love to be able to work in a school where there is

0:21:45 > 0:21:47lots of different cultures and where the children

0:21:47 > 0:21:49just all get along together.

0:21:49 > 0:21:54So that would be a real dream to be able to work in a school like this.

0:21:54 > 0:21:58Finding good career opportunities could help convince Lindsey

0:21:58 > 0:22:02to emigrate but she will also need a good salary as she will be

0:22:02 > 0:22:05the breadwinner while Dylan finds his feet and sets up a business.

0:22:06 > 0:22:10So today she is visiting a local school to talk to the headmistress.

0:22:10 > 0:22:16- Good morning.- Hi, I'm Lindsey.- I'm Mary-Ann.- Nice to meet you.- You too.

0:22:16 > 0:22:19- Welcome to our centre.- Thank you. Thanks for having me here.

0:22:19 > 0:22:22The first question is would her British teaching qualifications

0:22:22 > 0:22:25translate to Australia?

0:22:25 > 0:22:28So, yeah, I really just want to find out more about education system in

0:22:28 > 0:22:31Australia and what those opportunities

0:22:31 > 0:22:33could provide for me and my skills.

0:22:33 > 0:22:38The easiest would be to join the childcare as an unqualified

0:22:38 > 0:22:42assistant and that way you could begin to work immediately

0:22:42 > 0:22:45and you would have had security of being employed

0:22:45 > 0:22:49and then you could tackle the minefield that is

0:22:49 > 0:22:52being recognised when you've moved to a new country.

0:22:52 > 0:22:56The minefield is the legislation that covers teaching in Australia.

0:22:56 > 0:23:00For Lindsey, it would mean taking exams in order to work.

0:23:00 > 0:23:04- Are you ready?- Yeah.- Not nervous? - No, not at all.- Let's do it.- Great.

0:23:04 > 0:23:06There's a lot riding on Lindsey's shoulders

0:23:06 > 0:23:09and she knows that the reality of starting a new career

0:23:09 > 0:23:13so far from home could be a huge challenge.

0:23:13 > 0:23:16The role that I'm doing at the moment is quite a high-pressure job and

0:23:16 > 0:23:22I need to make that decision as to do I want that for myself over here?

0:23:22 > 0:23:26If you're making a lifestyle choice to make a change this dramatic

0:23:26 > 0:23:29then the last thing you really want to do

0:23:29 > 0:23:32unless you absolutely need to is be in some high-pressure job

0:23:32 > 0:23:36juggling all these things while you're trying to put new roots down.

0:23:37 > 0:23:40That's not ideal news so can Dylan fare better?

0:23:40 > 0:23:43- How are you?- I'm good. You OK? Thanks for seeing me.- Welcome to Link.

0:23:43 > 0:23:45He is meeting Guy Cooper,

0:23:45 > 0:23:48a businessman with experience of Aussie cafe culture.

0:23:48 > 0:23:51I would be lying if I said there is a high success rate

0:23:51 > 0:23:52because there's not.

0:23:52 > 0:23:55There is a high turnover of small business

0:23:55 > 0:23:59especially in the last three years. It takes you a year or two

0:23:59 > 0:24:02to build up a client base, you know, a customer base.

0:24:02 > 0:24:06So if you buy an existing business, the hard work has already been done.

0:24:06 > 0:24:09Dylan has saved a deposit but will it be enough?

0:24:09 > 0:24:13- 150,000 isn't going to get you that much.- No?

0:24:13 > 0:24:15It's probably just buying yourself a job

0:24:15 > 0:24:20and you're probably likely to earn about 60-70,000 a year.

0:24:20 > 0:24:24That's not what he wanted to hear. So what about plan B?

0:24:24 > 0:24:29What about getting finance on top of that? Are banks willing to lend?

0:24:29 > 0:24:32They won't lend on businesses per se

0:24:32 > 0:24:36- but they will lend against your assets.- So you need a house.

0:24:36 > 0:24:37Absolutely.

0:24:37 > 0:24:39With the banks, you know,

0:24:39 > 0:24:42with Australia at the moment there is a bit of a credit squeeze as well.

0:24:42 > 0:24:44That's what makes it quite difficult.

0:24:44 > 0:24:47OK, so moving on to plan C then.

0:24:47 > 0:24:50If we pull back from using a bigger deposit on a house

0:24:50 > 0:24:53and use some of that capital towards the business

0:24:53 > 0:24:57and if I was able to push my initial investment up to 250,000,

0:24:57 > 0:24:59what kind of business do you think I'd get for that money?

0:24:59 > 0:25:02250 will get you something semi-decent.

0:25:02 > 0:25:05And it will make you an income, as an owner operator,

0:25:05 > 0:25:10- round about one to 150 in that range. - Thank you, Gary.- It's been lovely.

0:25:10 > 0:25:12- Lovely to meet you.- Thanks, Dylan.

0:25:12 > 0:25:15It looks like Dylan has plenty to think about.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18A large deposit might help his business plan

0:25:18 > 0:25:21but it may come at the cost of a dream apartment.

0:25:23 > 0:25:26Back at the school, Lindsey is flavour of the month.

0:25:26 > 0:25:29So now that the children are already in love with you desperately,

0:25:29 > 0:25:35are you staying for the rest of the day, month, year, quarter?

0:25:35 > 0:25:37I would love to but I do have lots of thinking to do,

0:25:37 > 0:25:39lots of decisions to make.

0:25:39 > 0:25:43OK, well, I won't put you on payroll but I'll just sort of pencil you in

0:25:43 > 0:25:45so that when you get your visa stamped I can say,

0:25:45 > 0:25:49- "Oh, good, Lindsey's back."- Sounds brilliant. Fantastic.

0:25:49 > 0:25:51- Sounds great. Thank you for coming. - Thank you so much.

0:25:51 > 0:25:55So it sounds like Lindsey may have a job offer already.

0:25:56 > 0:25:59Meanwhile, Dylan's getting a taste of the day-to-day

0:25:59 > 0:26:02side of running his own coffee business.

0:26:02 > 0:26:06Cafe owner Paul is on hand with some expert local advice.

0:26:06 > 0:26:08Here the humidity goes up and down

0:26:08 > 0:26:11- so your grind's going to change all the time.- OK, yeah.

0:26:11 > 0:26:13You've got to watch your shots all the time.

0:26:13 > 0:26:15We change this untold times during the day

0:26:15 > 0:26:18just to make sure you get the perfect shot.

0:26:18 > 0:26:20You can normally tell if there's a storm coming

0:26:20 > 0:26:22cos your coffee will change.

0:26:22 > 0:26:24So that's beautiful. 25 second shot.

0:26:28 > 0:26:29Oh, yeah, that's good.

0:26:29 > 0:26:32That's the technical stuff out of the way

0:26:32 > 0:26:33so it's straight to the point.

0:26:33 > 0:26:36How do you find running a coffee shop, Paul?

0:26:36 > 0:26:37I think a lot of it is underestimated

0:26:37 > 0:26:40with the amount of time that you've got to put in.

0:26:40 > 0:26:42My morning starts at about quarter past five

0:26:42 > 0:26:45and I get home at five at night.

0:26:45 > 0:26:49Then I start baking and I probably don't finish till about nine.

0:26:49 > 0:26:51Yeah, and then it's all go the next day.

0:26:51 > 0:26:53So it just keeps going like that.

0:26:53 > 0:26:56If you can specialise in something and be really good at that

0:26:56 > 0:26:59and not try to cater for everybody but just do a good thing,

0:26:59 > 0:27:02you will get a good customer base. For sure.

0:27:02 > 0:27:05Working long hours won't leave much time to surf.

0:27:05 > 0:27:09But having seen the costs, how does Dylan feel about setting up shop?

0:27:09 > 0:27:13It was good chat with the business broker. I think...

0:27:13 > 0:27:16You know, he obviously showed me a business that's doing really good

0:27:16 > 0:27:17so it's a high premium price.

0:27:17 > 0:27:20I think what I'd rather do is find something that's, you know,

0:27:20 > 0:27:25maybe the business isn't being run right and go in there

0:27:25 > 0:27:28and maybe make some improvements and build up a business that way.

0:27:30 > 0:27:32Despite the challenges he could well face,

0:27:32 > 0:27:35Dylan is still optimistic about his plans.

0:27:35 > 0:27:38But it looks like there's plenty of question marks hanging

0:27:38 > 0:27:40over his and Lindsey's prospects.

0:27:42 > 0:27:46With their fact-finding completed, the Bowens meet up to swap notes.

0:27:46 > 0:27:50- I got you a tea.- Thank you. Thank you very much.

0:27:50 > 0:27:54- Did you have fun at the school? - Yeah, it was great.- Yeah?- Yeah.

0:27:54 > 0:27:56Lovely place. An amazing school.

0:27:56 > 0:28:01It just had a lovely feeling about it as soon as I walked in there.

0:28:01 > 0:28:04And really good opportunities.

0:28:04 > 0:28:08And it was just lovely to be around the children.

0:28:08 > 0:28:11- So was there any discussion of earnings potential?- Yeah, yeah.

0:28:11 > 0:28:17I could start earning, you know, bottom at 70,000

0:28:17 > 0:28:21and then with my skills and my expertise I could go in maybe

0:28:21 > 0:28:23as a position of a primary coordinator

0:28:23 > 0:28:26- which would mean a lot more. - Good stuff.

0:28:26 > 0:28:28So it was great. How was your day?

0:28:28 > 0:28:31It wasn't as positive as I thought it might be but it was really

0:28:31 > 0:28:35useful to kind of see what businesses go for over here.

0:28:35 > 0:28:39You know, the kind of sale price relevant to the turnover and profit.

0:28:39 > 0:28:41I can go for a bit of a bargain which gives us more

0:28:41 > 0:28:44money for the deposit for the house so that we can get the house

0:28:44 > 0:28:48that we want in the area that we want and get the business as well

0:28:48 > 0:28:50for the money that we've got.

0:28:51 > 0:28:54It looks like it might be plan D for Dylan.

0:28:54 > 0:28:56But Lindsey is sounding positive and neither of them

0:28:56 > 0:29:00seem put off by the idea of rolling up their sleeves.

0:29:00 > 0:29:03We'll have to put a lot of work into it. It's going to be a lot of hours.

0:29:03 > 0:29:06- Less time to go surfing.- Yeah. - What do you think?

0:29:06 > 0:29:08I think it is going to be a lot of hard work

0:29:08 > 0:29:11- but I'm looking forward to it. - We're ready for that though.

0:29:11 > 0:29:15I'll just get an after-work surf in most nights.

0:29:15 > 0:29:19We still have a happy couple but has Lindsey seen enough to

0:29:19 > 0:29:23be as passionate about working here as she is at home?

0:29:23 > 0:29:25It's been a very busy and interesting day.

0:29:25 > 0:29:27Lots of information, lots of things to take in,

0:29:27 > 0:29:29lots of things to think about.

0:29:29 > 0:29:30And now it is time to vote.

0:29:38 > 0:29:40BOTH: Australia.

0:29:42 > 0:29:44- Australia for you.- That's good.

0:29:44 > 0:29:46I'm surprised I voted for Australia.

0:29:46 > 0:29:50I did think that it's going to be quite hard for me to get a job

0:29:50 > 0:29:54so it was really positive to hear that I will be able to find work here

0:29:54 > 0:29:57and I was also surprised at the salary as well.

0:29:57 > 0:30:01Even though, for me, it's not all about earning as much as I can

0:30:01 > 0:30:05but it's still nice to hear that I'll be, you know, we'll be comfortable.

0:30:05 > 0:30:08So it was a really, really positive day.

0:30:08 > 0:30:09What today showed me

0:30:09 > 0:30:12is that it is possible to set up a good business

0:30:12 > 0:30:15and make a success of it and now I'm armed with a bit more

0:30:15 > 0:30:19information I think I can come over here and do OK.

0:30:24 > 0:30:27Investigating their work prospects was a real eye-opener for Dylan

0:30:27 > 0:30:31and Lindsey and despite facing plenty of hurdles along their way

0:30:31 > 0:30:34they are both convinced their plans could work.

0:30:34 > 0:30:37But could their enthusiasm be blinding them

0:30:37 > 0:30:39to the real cost of this move?

0:30:41 > 0:30:43In Cardiff the Bowens rent their flat.

0:30:43 > 0:30:46Having sold their own property, they are hoping to combine

0:30:46 > 0:30:49savings with a mortgage to afford their dream Aussie home.

0:30:51 > 0:30:52To help them do the figures,

0:30:52 > 0:30:55we have prepared a breakdown of their monthly expenses.

0:30:55 > 0:30:57Based on their own calculations,

0:30:57 > 0:31:00they will find out if they really can afford to have it all.

0:31:03 > 0:31:10- The tuna steaks is quite a bit more already.- Spinach. Goodness me. Wow.

0:31:10 > 0:31:13I'm not sure we would be eating spinach any more.

0:31:13 > 0:31:15I'm a little bit surprised by some of this.

0:31:15 > 0:31:17We could grow a lot of it though.

0:31:17 > 0:31:20- Which would be something I would really like to do.- Yeah.

0:31:20 > 0:31:23- It would be like The Good Life. - Yeah.

0:31:23 > 0:31:25That doesn't sound like a promising start.

0:31:25 > 0:31:28So how does the monthly shopping bill compare?

0:31:28 > 0:31:34So, in total, our monthly grocery spend is £416.

0:31:34 > 0:31:41Which is significantly more expensive than back home.

0:31:42 > 0:31:46That's £180 a month more expensive than the UK,

0:31:46 > 0:31:49which may not leave them much room for a big mortgage.

0:31:51 > 0:31:54They have decided to base their sums on the first property.

0:31:54 > 0:31:59It wasn't a dream home but it might help stretch their savings further.

0:31:59 > 0:32:05- The mortgage per month... - £1363.- Yeah.

0:32:05 > 0:32:07A bit above what we said we wanted to afford.

0:32:07 > 0:32:09But I think that, yeah,

0:32:09 > 0:32:12- we'd be looking to put a bigger deposit down than that.- Yeah.

0:32:12 > 0:32:15So, you know, there's a bit of wiggle room there.

0:32:15 > 0:32:17And salary is all down to Lindsey.

0:32:17 > 0:32:20I will be the main breadwinner.

0:32:20 > 0:32:24Thank you for that. I will be a supported man. A kept man. Nice.

0:32:24 > 0:32:26- Just how you like it.- Yeah.

0:32:27 > 0:32:32She hopes to earn 70,000 a year if she can take on a senior role.

0:32:32 > 0:32:36That's £47,000.

0:32:36 > 0:32:40So that's a bit more than you earn in the UK now.

0:32:40 > 0:32:41Which is good.

0:32:41 > 0:32:44Based on Dylan earning the minimum for the first year,

0:32:44 > 0:32:49they are £569 a month better off in Australia.

0:32:49 > 0:32:52However, that uses up every penny they have saved.

0:32:52 > 0:32:54So we have got more money left over.

0:32:54 > 0:32:58- However, we haven't put away anything for savings.- Yeah.

0:32:58 > 0:33:02On paper, it looks like the Bowens can afford the dream

0:33:02 > 0:33:05but are they convinced their plans will work?

0:33:05 > 0:33:09We have done the reality check and based on the figures

0:33:09 > 0:33:11we will be voting for...

0:33:21 > 0:33:23BOTH: Australia.

0:33:25 > 0:33:26Both of us Australia then.

0:33:26 > 0:33:29Yeah, that really surprised me, looking at those figures.

0:33:29 > 0:33:34I can earn a good wage and I can be doing what I love to do - teaching.

0:33:34 > 0:33:39And then Dylan can pursue his dream of having a business.

0:33:39 > 0:33:41It shows that we can maintain the lifestyle

0:33:41 > 0:33:46and still have that bit of money, you know, backup emergency.

0:33:46 > 0:33:49- It is do-able.- Yeah.

0:33:53 > 0:33:54Despite the risks,

0:33:54 > 0:33:57the Bowens are convinced the numbers do add up down under.

0:33:57 > 0:34:01And Dylan's hopes have taken another big step forward.

0:34:01 > 0:34:03And I suspect, for at least one of them,

0:34:03 > 0:34:07experiencing the Aussie lifestyle is going to be a pretty easy ride.

0:34:10 > 0:34:13After wrestling with all the facts and figures,

0:34:13 > 0:34:16a day on the beach is an ideal way for both Bowens

0:34:16 > 0:34:18to enjoy everyday Aussie living.

0:34:18 > 0:34:21But for Dylan it is a chance to reconnect with the dream that

0:34:21 > 0:34:23inspired him to emigrate.

0:34:29 > 0:34:32This is a perfect day, just being here on the beach, hanging out on

0:34:32 > 0:34:37the beach just relaxing and seeing Dylan enjoying himself in the surf.

0:34:37 > 0:34:39This is what it's all about.

0:34:39 > 0:34:42It's evident that we are going to have to work pretty hard but,

0:34:42 > 0:34:44you know, at the end of the day,

0:34:44 > 0:34:48just coming down the beach like this will make it all worth it.

0:34:48 > 0:34:50But Dylan is not alone in being inspired.

0:34:52 > 0:34:55Being here today, I've just seen so many mothers

0:34:55 > 0:34:59and fathers with their children and I just think it's just

0:34:59 > 0:35:02a wonderful place to have children and bring up a family.

0:35:02 > 0:35:05I mean, Lindsey's just up the beach now

0:35:05 > 0:35:07and she's doing a bit of meditation and yoga.

0:35:07 > 0:35:10I hope that settles her and puts her into, you know,

0:35:10 > 0:35:14a positive aura and then she will vote Australia.

0:35:14 > 0:35:17It looks like even the weather might be on Dylan's side

0:35:17 > 0:35:20as the sun comes out for their vote.

0:35:21 > 0:35:24We have had a great day here on the beach sampling the typical

0:35:24 > 0:35:27Aussie lifestyle and now it's time to vote.

0:35:38 > 0:35:40BOTH: Australia.

0:35:43 > 0:35:48- No surprise there, I think. - This is what it's all about.

0:35:48 > 0:35:51We get down the beach quite a bit back home but, you know,

0:35:51 > 0:35:54for most of the year, it's literally, you go down and surf,

0:35:54 > 0:35:56back in the car and back home.

0:35:56 > 0:35:58But over here it's going to be nice to come down,

0:35:58 > 0:36:00have a surf and then just

0:36:00 > 0:36:02chill out on the beach for a couple of hours as well.

0:36:02 > 0:36:04It's just a great way to live.

0:36:09 > 0:36:11Not surprisingly,

0:36:11 > 0:36:14that was the easiest decision of the week for Dylan.

0:36:14 > 0:36:16But Lindsey's looking even more convinced

0:36:16 > 0:36:19Australia could offer her dream future too.

0:36:19 > 0:36:22So will seeing messages from loved ones come

0:36:22 > 0:36:26as an unwelcome reminder of her biggest fears?

0:36:26 > 0:36:31- You ready to watch?- Yes. My tissues are here ready.- OK, let's play.

0:36:33 > 0:36:35Hi, Dyl! Hi, Linds!

0:36:35 > 0:36:37Hope you're having a brilliant time in Australia.

0:36:37 > 0:36:40As a couple, Dylan and Lindsey are very relaxed.

0:36:40 > 0:36:44They're very outgoing, they're very focused. They're really driven.

0:36:44 > 0:36:46When they decide they want to do something,

0:36:46 > 0:36:49they really get stuck into it. They're great people too.

0:36:49 > 0:36:53- Yeah, she's just lovely, a brilliant friend. Great to work with.- Yes.

0:36:53 > 0:36:56Just fantastic all-round character.

0:36:56 > 0:37:00When I found out initially, I was absolutely devastated.

0:37:00 > 0:37:03But I've never said to Lindsey, "I don't want you to go."

0:37:03 > 0:37:07I wouldn't do that. They've got a dream.

0:37:07 > 0:37:10And I think, if you've got a dream, you have to follow that dream.

0:37:10 > 0:37:13And as a mum, all that you ever want for your children

0:37:13 > 0:37:16is that they're happy in life, and that's all I want for her

0:37:16 > 0:37:17and Dylan.

0:37:17 > 0:37:20They've been talking about going to Australia for pretty much

0:37:20 > 0:37:21as long as I can remember.

0:37:21 > 0:37:25So, as much as I don't really want them to go,

0:37:25 > 0:37:27for selfish reasons, I think it would be a real shame

0:37:27 > 0:37:30if they didn't follow that one dream that they've had.

0:37:30 > 0:37:34I can't really imagine her not being here, because she's always here.

0:37:34 > 0:37:37We're always doing something together, but...

0:37:40 > 0:37:43Lindsey and I have started working together as well,

0:37:43 > 0:37:44so I'm now seeing her

0:37:44 > 0:37:48three days a week, and to not have that...

0:37:48 > 0:37:51is going to be awful.

0:37:51 > 0:37:53Everybody's been thinking about you

0:37:53 > 0:37:55and thinking about the decisions you'll have to make.

0:37:55 > 0:37:58I hope you've answered a lot of your questions.

0:37:58 > 0:38:00I hope you'll do what's best for you two ultimately.

0:38:00 > 0:38:02- But we really miss you. - Yeah, we love you two.

0:38:02 > 0:38:04- We're really looking forward to having you home.- Yeah.

0:38:05 > 0:38:07Lindsey...

0:38:08 > 0:38:12..you know that we'd never say to you, "Don't go."

0:38:12 > 0:38:16I know you and Dylan have this dream,

0:38:16 > 0:38:18and you must fulfil that dream.

0:38:19 > 0:38:23As a mum, Daddy and I only want the best for you

0:38:23 > 0:38:26and we want you to be happy in life.

0:38:26 > 0:38:28And if this is what is going to make you happy, then...

0:38:30 > 0:38:32..you must go.

0:38:33 > 0:38:37You know you're so special to us, and you, Dyl.

0:38:37 > 0:38:40We just want you to have an amazing life.

0:38:53 > 0:38:55For Lindsey, her bond with loved ones

0:38:55 > 0:38:58has always been a barrier to emigrating.

0:38:58 > 0:39:04So having seen her messages, is it one she's finally ready to break?

0:39:04 > 0:39:07I've got that connection with my mum and my sister and my friends,

0:39:07 > 0:39:11which is really, really important to me.

0:39:11 > 0:39:15But it just made me realise that life does go on,

0:39:15 > 0:39:19and they're still going to be an important part of our lives.

0:39:20 > 0:39:24If we decide to come out here and we decide to stay out here,

0:39:24 > 0:39:28you know, the quality time that we would spend with our family

0:39:28 > 0:39:32and friends when they came out to visit us here is invaluable.

0:39:40 > 0:39:43Messages from loved ones hit Lindsey hard.

0:39:43 > 0:39:45But during the week, she's fallen

0:39:45 > 0:39:48well and truly in love with Australia.

0:39:48 > 0:39:50And with their journey over,

0:39:50 > 0:39:51it's time for Dylan

0:39:51 > 0:39:54to pop the second biggest question of a lifetime.

0:39:54 > 0:39:57Will it be "I do" to a new life Down Under?

0:40:01 > 0:40:05So we're four out of four in the UK versus Australia votes...

0:40:05 > 0:40:06for Australia.

0:40:06 > 0:40:10The final one is the big one, and I suppose the final one is worth

0:40:10 > 0:40:14more than the four single ones put together.

0:40:14 > 0:40:15I've got nothing but respect

0:40:15 > 0:40:17for the way Lindsey has approached this week.

0:40:17 > 0:40:21She's come out here, she's been open-minded, she's been,

0:40:21 > 0:40:24you know, really determined to make a go of this.

0:40:24 > 0:40:27And her positivity has just absolutely blown me away.

0:40:28 > 0:40:33We've thought long and hard, had some really intense conversations.

0:40:33 > 0:40:35It's been...

0:40:35 > 0:40:38a real roller coaster of emotions, you know.

0:40:38 > 0:40:41I've been really high and I've been really low as well.

0:40:41 > 0:40:46And I think Dylan will definitely say the same thing as well.

0:40:46 > 0:40:49He's felt it as much as me, I think,

0:40:49 > 0:40:54because he's worrying more about me than himself.

0:40:54 > 0:40:56If Lindsey votes for the UK over Australia,

0:40:56 > 0:40:58and it means that we don't come out here,

0:40:58 > 0:41:01then I would never hold it against Lindsey.

0:41:01 > 0:41:05I know that she would have really valid reasons for not doing it.

0:41:05 > 0:41:09We're a team, and if one of us doesn't come,

0:41:09 > 0:41:10then neither of us come.

0:41:12 > 0:41:16It's time to let us and Dylan off the hook.

0:41:16 > 0:41:18Will she or won't she vote for Australia?

0:41:19 > 0:41:23We've had a great week up here on the Gold Coast.

0:41:23 > 0:41:25Now it's the moment of truth.

0:41:25 > 0:41:26So let's vote.

0:41:34 > 0:41:36- Australia.- Australia.

0:41:36 > 0:41:38Yay, well done!

0:41:38 > 0:41:44- Yeah?- Yeah! I'm really happy.- Yeah. - Yeah.- Yeah, me too.

0:41:45 > 0:41:47That feels liberating.

0:41:47 > 0:41:50That's, you know, the end of a six-year journey, and now,

0:41:50 > 0:41:52you know, I know that we can get home

0:41:52 > 0:41:55and start planning, book our flights as soon as possible

0:41:55 > 0:41:57and just get out here and start the rest of our lives!

0:41:57 > 0:41:59It's just magical here.

0:41:59 > 0:42:02It's beautiful, the people are lovely,

0:42:02 > 0:42:04the lifestyle is just amazing.

0:42:04 > 0:42:05And...

0:42:06 > 0:42:10..yeah, I just think, for this next part of our lives,

0:42:10 > 0:42:13this next chapter of our lives,

0:42:13 > 0:42:16I just feel this really is the right place for us, for both of us,

0:42:16 > 0:42:18you know, to start a family.

0:42:37 > 0:42:41Starting over on the other side of the world isn't easy.

0:42:41 > 0:42:43And even in the happier moments,

0:42:43 > 0:42:46the pain of leaving home is never quite forgotten.

0:42:46 > 0:42:48But, with a tough decision behind them,

0:42:48 > 0:42:50the Bowens can look forward to the promise

0:42:50 > 0:42:52of living their dream together.
