0:00:02 > 0:00:04Moving your family to the other side of the world

0:00:04 > 0:00:08is one of the toughest decisions you could ever make.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11But if emigrating also meant leaving your child behind,

0:00:11 > 0:00:15could you face the consequences and follow your dream?

0:00:15 > 0:00:20Tasha and Ty Rogers have spent ten years planning a move to Australia.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22We're just not getting as much

0:00:22 > 0:00:25as we should be getting out of life, I don't feel.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28But not everyone in the family shares their enthusiasm.

0:00:28 > 0:00:32He just says, "No, I'm not going, I'm not going, I'm not going."

0:00:32 > 0:00:34I've been telling her for years...

0:00:34 > 0:00:36He has not once said, "I might go."

0:00:36 > 0:00:37..I'm not going.

0:00:37 > 0:00:40And with just one week to convince all of them,

0:00:40 > 0:00:42they could face a heartbreaking choice.

0:00:42 > 0:00:46I just want him to see it's an opportunity for him as well.

0:01:08 > 0:01:12Ever since Captain Cook first set foot on Australian soil,

0:01:12 > 0:01:14Brits have been making their way down under,

0:01:14 > 0:01:19dreaming of a new start amidst the sun, sand and epic surroundings.

0:01:20 > 0:01:24But not every explorer finds the promised land and,

0:01:24 > 0:01:27for many new arrivals, their journey can end up

0:01:27 > 0:01:29right back where it started.

0:01:29 > 0:01:30For the Rogers family,

0:01:30 > 0:01:33the week ahead will be one of the most important of their lives,

0:01:33 > 0:01:37as they experience the reality of living in Australia.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40At the end of it, they will face a huge choice -

0:01:40 > 0:01:44whether to stay in the UK or to make the move down under for good.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47After 10,000 miles and 25 hours

0:01:47 > 0:01:50in the air, they arrive in Brisbane.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56All that thinking time has brought some worries to the surface.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00I got a bit upset on the plane.

0:02:00 > 0:02:01You just think, you know...

0:02:01 > 0:02:04It's such a long way away. If we had to leave

0:02:04 > 0:02:07someone behind, it's quite a lot for them to go through, isn't it?

0:02:07 > 0:02:10A week of this and we might be able to change your mind.

0:02:10 > 0:02:11Yeah...

0:02:11 > 0:02:13Maybe.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16It looks like it's going to be quite a ride,

0:02:16 > 0:02:19but at least their home for the week is only a short drive away.

0:02:20 > 0:02:24Back in the UK, the Rogers live in Weston-super-Mare.

0:02:24 > 0:02:28They are Tyrone, an electrician, fitness instructor Natasha,

0:02:28 > 0:02:31her 15-year-old son Oliver,

0:02:31 > 0:02:34and their children - Summer, 11, and Ellis, aged four.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40They have a happy home, but the promise of a better life

0:02:40 > 0:02:44has long had them dreaming of making a move down under.

0:02:44 > 0:02:48We decided that we'd like a change of pace and a change of lifestyle.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51Just to get our teeth stuck into something, really.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54We're just a bit fed up with not getting as much

0:02:54 > 0:02:56out of our lives as we possibly can.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58We're quite an active family anyway.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00I think Australia is just going to offer us more.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02More family time together.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04- We want a bit of adventure as well, don't we?- Yeah.

0:03:04 > 0:03:07But emigrating is no easy matter.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09And after finding out the facts,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12Ty and Tasha discovered they had a long journey ahead of them.

0:03:12 > 0:03:17We found that our jobs weren't able to allow us to enter Australia.

0:03:17 > 0:03:21- I was a fitness instructor and Tyrone was a...- Data engineer.

0:03:21 > 0:03:22Data engineer.

0:03:22 > 0:03:25And that just wasn't the jobs that they needed at the time.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29So we had to both give up our jobs to go back to college to retrain.

0:03:29 > 0:03:32So life was put on hold for a couple of years.

0:03:32 > 0:03:36The quickest way to qualify for a visa was for Tasha to retrain as

0:03:36 > 0:03:39a hairdresser, but midway through the process,

0:03:39 > 0:03:41they suffered another blow.

0:03:41 > 0:03:43When we realised that hairdressing

0:03:43 > 0:03:46had come off the list, we did go into a bit of a panic

0:03:46 > 0:03:49and just thought, you know, these past few years,

0:03:49 > 0:03:53scrimping and saving to try and get us through college

0:03:53 > 0:03:56and further education, "What have we done that for?"

0:03:58 > 0:04:00Fortunately, Ty's new career as an electrician

0:04:00 > 0:04:06was on the wanted list, meaning the door was finally open to a move.

0:04:06 > 0:04:09I install the electrical side of things on the solar panels

0:04:09 > 0:04:12that you see on houses. I love my job at the moment,

0:04:12 > 0:04:16but when I have to go on the roof and it's pouring down with rain

0:04:16 > 0:04:19and it's blowing a gale, it's not great, to be honest.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22Hopefully, if I can secure the right job in Australia,

0:04:22 > 0:04:24it can be everything that I want it to be.

0:04:26 > 0:04:30Having overcome so many barriers, the Rogers know that leaving

0:04:30 > 0:04:33their large family network will be the biggest challenge of all.

0:04:33 > 0:04:36Particularly for one of them.

0:04:36 > 0:04:40Oliver's caught in two minds about Australia. He's got his other,

0:04:40 > 0:04:46sort of, family here, which has been a bit of a pull for him.

0:04:46 > 0:04:49Oliver's father and his family live close by in Wales

0:04:49 > 0:04:53and see plenty of each other. Moving to Australia could mean

0:04:53 > 0:04:55saying goodbye to them for good.

0:04:56 > 0:05:01I don't want to leave my other brother and sister, my dad, my nan,

0:05:01 > 0:05:03grandad and cousin.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06I have said it for years now - I'm not going.

0:05:06 > 0:05:09That has been what I've stuck to, you know.

0:05:09 > 0:05:12I'm going to suffer, whatever happens, cos if you want to stay,

0:05:12 > 0:05:15I'd be pinning them down, but if I were to go,

0:05:15 > 0:05:18I get attacked from my dad's family. So I'm hoping I hate it.

0:05:18 > 0:05:22I'm hoping that it's... I'm hoping my mum hates it.

0:05:22 > 0:05:24But she's not going to hate it.

0:05:24 > 0:05:26Walk around the house.

0:05:26 > 0:05:29There's more than 100 Australia books around here.

0:05:29 > 0:05:32I just hope he's going to come over to Australia

0:05:32 > 0:05:33and really like it.

0:05:33 > 0:05:36And I can't think that he won't, otherwise I won't do it,

0:05:36 > 0:05:37I don't think.

0:05:39 > 0:05:42The Rogers face a daunting prospect.

0:05:42 > 0:05:45Ty and Tasha believe Australia can offer the family

0:05:45 > 0:05:48a better future, but those years spent retraining have seen

0:05:48 > 0:05:51the children grow up and build lives of their own.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54With a decade of planning on the line, they'll discover

0:05:54 > 0:05:56if their time has run out.

0:05:58 > 0:06:00With its bright lights and golden beaches,

0:06:00 > 0:06:03the Rogers are hoping that Brisbane, on the Queensland coast,

0:06:03 > 0:06:07could offer them an ideal mix of outdoor living and city glamour.

0:06:07 > 0:06:09The suburbs are expanding all the time

0:06:09 > 0:06:12and it's a young-feeling city with a growing economy,

0:06:12 > 0:06:16used to plenty of new arrivals from home and abroad.

0:06:17 > 0:06:20They're staying in this three-bedroom cottage

0:06:20 > 0:06:23in the Redlands district of the city.

0:06:23 > 0:06:25But will first impressions impress?

0:06:27 > 0:06:29I don't think I would choose something like this.

0:06:29 > 0:06:33Overall, I think this is a big thumbs-down from me.

0:06:33 > 0:06:36- Yeah, me too.- It's quite small.

0:06:36 > 0:06:38I think that's a no, then.

0:06:38 > 0:06:41And there are other worries on people's minds.

0:06:41 > 0:06:44I'm really nervous about this week. I'm nervous that everybody's...

0:06:44 > 0:06:47They may not like it. I'm nervous that I'm not going to like it.

0:06:47 > 0:06:51I'm nervous that Ty might love it and I might not like it.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54So, yeah, I am really nervous, cos there's five of us

0:06:54 > 0:06:56and it really has to be that we all have to like it

0:06:56 > 0:06:58for us to make a decision.

0:06:59 > 0:07:01We'll see if I like it or not,

0:07:01 > 0:07:04but at the moment, I'm not really liking it, to be honest.

0:07:07 > 0:07:09Back in the UK,

0:07:09 > 0:07:13the Rogers live in a four-bedroom family home in Weston-super-Mare.

0:07:13 > 0:07:18They believe it is worth £145,000 and have a budget of

0:07:18 > 0:07:22up to £220,000 to spend on property down under.

0:07:22 > 0:07:25That's if they can find what they're looking for.

0:07:25 > 0:07:30Obviously, the dream house would be a four-bedroom on a huge plot

0:07:30 > 0:07:34with a swimming pool, double garage, with some sort of work shed.

0:07:34 > 0:07:37- Well, it would, wouldn't it?- Yeah.

0:07:37 > 0:07:40Finding the right home could be vital in making that

0:07:40 > 0:07:44all-important decision, so today, we are going to give the Rogers

0:07:44 > 0:07:47a taste of Brisbane's housing market.

0:07:47 > 0:07:49We'll show them three options,

0:07:49 > 0:07:51based on what they want from their ideal home,

0:07:51 > 0:07:55what they can afford, and the real cost of property down under.

0:07:55 > 0:07:58After seeing for themselves what's on offer,

0:07:58 > 0:08:00they'll find out how much each house costs.

0:08:03 > 0:08:07All three properties are situated in the Redlands district, south-east

0:08:07 > 0:08:11of Brisbane and within easy reach of the Rogers' rented accommodation.

0:08:13 > 0:08:16It's a bustling location, close to the sea and local businesses,

0:08:16 > 0:08:19with its own open-air shopping market.

0:08:19 > 0:08:23With so much going on, it should be tailor-made for new arrivals.

0:08:26 > 0:08:29The first stop is at this three-bedroom house in Capalaba -

0:08:29 > 0:08:32an area popular with young families like the Rogers.

0:08:32 > 0:08:34But will they agree?

0:08:38 > 0:08:42- First impressions, I really like it. - Yeah, me too. I'm so excited!

0:08:43 > 0:08:46Oh, look, straight into the kitchen.

0:08:46 > 0:08:48Oh, it's massive!

0:08:48 > 0:08:49- SUMMER:- That's amazing!

0:08:49 > 0:08:52- It is amazing. - I'm loving the French doors.

0:08:52 > 0:08:54So do I. We've always wanted French doors.

0:08:54 > 0:08:57Be careful you don't drive straight into the lounge.

0:08:59 > 0:09:01- Not a bad sized room. - Oh, wow, look, Oliver.

0:09:02 > 0:09:04- ELLIS:- I don't really like it, do you?

0:09:04 > 0:09:07- SUMMER:- Oh, yeah, I do. It's nice.

0:09:07 > 0:09:11Because it's really untidy and it's got no beds.

0:09:11 > 0:09:15It's a great start, even if Ellis is a little worried about

0:09:15 > 0:09:18the sleeping arrangements. But there is plenty more to see.

0:09:18 > 0:09:21Whose room do you think this one might be?

0:09:21 > 0:09:22- ELLIS:- Mine.

0:09:22 > 0:09:24- Really?- I like it.

0:09:24 > 0:09:25Yeah, it's lovely.

0:09:25 > 0:09:27This is lovely.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32Ellis is happy, but what about the rest of the family?

0:09:34 > 0:09:36So that's three bedrooms, then.

0:09:36 > 0:09:39- It's still a decent size. - Yeah.- Yeah.

0:09:40 > 0:09:43Oh, wow, look at this! You're going to love this one, Ty.

0:09:43 > 0:09:46Yeah, look at that.

0:09:46 > 0:09:48You've always wanted one of these, haven't you?

0:09:48 > 0:09:51- Oh, and it's got two... - Perfect, we can shower together.

0:09:51 > 0:09:54Yeah, shower together.

0:09:54 > 0:09:56Obviously, no bath, but...

0:09:56 > 0:09:57I like it.

0:09:59 > 0:10:01- ELLIS:- This is Mummy's special room.

0:10:01 > 0:10:05No, it's not Mummy's special room, it's where the washing machine is.

0:10:05 > 0:10:08With only three bedrooms, space could be

0:10:08 > 0:10:11a problem for a family of five, but Ellis may have found a fourth.

0:10:11 > 0:10:15It's quite a nice space to cool off, isn't it? Ellis, out.

0:10:15 > 0:10:19- I found a bedroom for me.- Get out. You're not having a bedroom in there.

0:10:19 > 0:10:22That would solve the problem, wouldn't it, of four bedrooms?

0:10:22 > 0:10:26Come on, let's go down here, look at this. We could have a pool here.

0:10:26 > 0:10:30- Yeah.- Look, Ellis, you could grow all your vegetables here.

0:10:30 > 0:10:32Yeah, my sweetcorn!

0:10:32 > 0:10:35- Can we live here?- Shall we?- Yeah.

0:10:35 > 0:10:37It may lack a fourth bedroom,

0:10:37 > 0:10:40but this house seems to have gone down well with everyone.

0:10:42 > 0:10:44But can its price keep up the good mood?

0:10:44 > 0:10:48The Rogers are willing to spend up to £220,000,

0:10:48 > 0:10:50so will they be able to afford it?

0:10:52 > 0:10:57- What do you think? I think it's top end.- I don't know. I don't know.

0:10:57 > 0:10:59OK, Ellis, do you want to turn it over?

0:10:59 > 0:11:02- Oh.- That's good.

0:11:02 > 0:11:03- That's interesting. - Yeah, definitely.

0:11:03 > 0:11:05I think we could do that, do you think?

0:11:05 > 0:11:07- I thought it'd be a lot more than that.- Yeah, so did I.

0:11:07 > 0:11:10I thought it was going to be way above.

0:11:10 > 0:11:13- Did you think it would be over the budget?- Yeah, I did.

0:11:13 > 0:11:15What do you think about this house?

0:11:15 > 0:11:18- Can you imagine us all living here? - It's quite a good house.

0:11:18 > 0:11:20I could imagine myself living here, but...

0:11:21 > 0:11:25- Do you think we'd fit in all right? - Yeah.- Imagine me there washing up...

0:11:25 > 0:11:30- Pleased with your bedroom size? - Yeah. Yeah.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33- Fancy having a pool in the back garden?- It'd be quite nice.

0:11:33 > 0:11:37- It would be nice, wouldn't it? It would be nice.- Good.

0:11:39 > 0:11:41Under budget, but undersized.

0:11:41 > 0:11:44It's a mixed result for Ty and Tasha

0:11:44 > 0:11:48and Oliver's looking far from sold on Aussie homes.

0:11:48 > 0:11:52So could property two offer them more, without breaking the bank?

0:11:52 > 0:11:56It's a three-bedroom property in the Cleveland area of Redlands,

0:11:56 > 0:11:59close to Moreton Bay, a popular location for watersports.

0:12:01 > 0:12:03Ooh, check this out!

0:12:03 > 0:12:08The house is situated in a gated community with a communal pool.

0:12:08 > 0:12:12It's been fully refurbished, leaving it with an upside-down layout.

0:12:14 > 0:12:19- It's different. - Oh, it's lovely. Oh, yeah.

0:12:19 > 0:12:22- Wow, the kitchen is nice, look, Ty. - Yeah, very modern.

0:12:22 > 0:12:25- We weren't expecting that at all, were we?- Not at all.

0:12:25 > 0:12:29- What do you think?- I really like it. - Were you expecting that?

0:12:29 > 0:12:30- No.- No, nor me.

0:12:30 > 0:12:32First impressions seem good,

0:12:32 > 0:12:35but Ty's less than happy with the outdoor space.

0:12:35 > 0:12:36Not much of a view.

0:12:36 > 0:12:39- No.- Would you want a view? - Yeah, I'd love a view.

0:12:39 > 0:12:43When you've got a balcony, it'd be nice to sit and look out.

0:12:43 > 0:12:44It would, actually.

0:12:44 > 0:12:46The view isn't a hit,

0:12:46 > 0:12:51but can this house offer the all-important space the Rogers need?

0:12:51 > 0:12:53- SUMMER:- Oh, wow, look, a bike!

0:12:53 > 0:12:55An enormous garage certainly helps.

0:12:55 > 0:12:56You could even convert this.

0:12:56 > 0:12:59You could do something with this, couldn't you?

0:12:59 > 0:13:01You could get a toilet, a shower room and everything,

0:13:01 > 0:13:04- as well as a bed, couldn't you? - It's big enough.

0:13:04 > 0:13:06- A little en suite, or something. - Yeah.- Door.

0:13:06 > 0:13:08He could have his own entrance.

0:13:10 > 0:13:14Yeah, a door. Convert that as a door and window.

0:13:14 > 0:13:15A little granny flat.

0:13:15 > 0:13:17Or maybe an Ollie flat.

0:13:19 > 0:13:21What's in there?

0:13:21 > 0:13:24- This is my office. - This is your office?

0:13:24 > 0:13:27Wow, this is lovely.

0:13:27 > 0:13:29It's not a very big room, but it looks big

0:13:29 > 0:13:32because it's so clean looking, isn't it?

0:13:32 > 0:13:37- Fingers crossed, there's a bigger bedroom.- Yes.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39So what's in here?

0:13:39 > 0:13:42- The master bedroom.- Lovely.

0:13:42 > 0:13:45- This is lovely.- Ooh!

0:13:45 > 0:13:48It's a shame. It has enough bedrooms for us all, but...

0:13:48 > 0:13:51You look at the living area, that's what's small.

0:13:51 > 0:13:54Not that we're looking for a huge living area,

0:13:54 > 0:13:57because we want to live most of the time outdoors

0:13:57 > 0:14:00on the veranda, patio, whatever.

0:14:00 > 0:14:04But obviously, we need it a little bit bigger than that.

0:14:04 > 0:14:06I don't think it's for us,

0:14:06 > 0:14:10- but it'll be interesting to see how much it costs.- Definitely.

0:14:10 > 0:14:13Despite their positive thinking, it looks as if

0:14:13 > 0:14:16the house isn't the right fit for Ty and Tasha.

0:14:16 > 0:14:18Even with an Ollie flat.

0:14:18 > 0:14:21So will its price be the final blow?

0:14:21 > 0:14:27Bearing in mind we're in a gated community, and there's a pool,

0:14:27 > 0:14:30how much do you think it's going to be?

0:14:30 > 0:14:33I wouldn't like to put a price on it, to be honest.

0:14:33 > 0:14:35We could be anywhere, we don't feel as if...

0:14:35 > 0:14:36We haven't got that outdoor living

0:14:36 > 0:14:40- that we'd like from Australia. - The outdoor living's too small.

0:14:40 > 0:14:43Let's have a look. Do you want to turn it over?

0:14:45 > 0:14:47Oh, crikey! Yeah.

0:14:47 > 0:14:50I thought it was going to be cheaper than that. That's a relief.

0:14:50 > 0:14:52I'm glad it's not cheap.

0:14:52 > 0:14:55Then you feel as if you have a dilemma.

0:14:55 > 0:14:58It's another disappointment.

0:14:58 > 0:15:03At £216,000, this house is right at the top end of their budget,

0:15:03 > 0:15:07and wouldn't leave much spare cash to convert the garage.

0:15:07 > 0:15:10Finding a home that appeals to everyone is looking like

0:15:10 > 0:15:12a tough task for Ty and Tasha.

0:15:12 > 0:15:15They have just one more stop to make.

0:15:15 > 0:15:18The final house is located in the affluent Alexandra Hills area,

0:15:18 > 0:15:2114 miles south of central Brisbane.

0:15:23 > 0:15:26With a large garden and modern open-plan interior,

0:15:26 > 0:15:29on paper, this house sounds promising.

0:15:29 > 0:15:32But can the reality deliver?

0:15:32 > 0:15:34This is nice. I like it.

0:15:34 > 0:15:39- This is what you imagined, isn't it? - Yes.- If you lived in Australia.

0:15:39 > 0:15:40Nice... Open-planned.

0:15:40 > 0:15:44That's a big relief. But is there room for everyone?

0:15:44 > 0:15:47- What we could do... - I know what you're thinking.

0:15:47 > 0:15:49Put a wall across here and have this as a bedroom.

0:15:49 > 0:15:52I was thinking the same thing.

0:15:52 > 0:15:55This is what we're looking for. This is a space we could utilise,

0:15:55 > 0:15:57turn it into a bedroom.

0:15:57 > 0:16:00Do you think you could see yourself in this house?

0:16:00 > 0:16:03- In Australia?- Yes.- No.

0:16:03 > 0:16:06Tasha, ten out of ten for effort!

0:16:06 > 0:16:09But Ollie is sticking to his guns.

0:16:09 > 0:16:12- The double garage.- Look at this.

0:16:12 > 0:16:16You could cut it down to a single garage, another bedroom.

0:16:16 > 0:16:20I reckon this is three bedrooms, with the potential for two more.

0:16:20 > 0:16:22What do you think?

0:16:22 > 0:16:26We don't know how many bedrooms it's got, so let's find out.

0:16:26 > 0:16:28Let's go and find out.

0:16:28 > 0:16:31There are only three bedrooms,

0:16:31 > 0:16:34so Ty may have to give up his garage to make space for everyone.

0:16:34 > 0:16:37But in the master bedroom, storage isn't a problem.

0:16:37 > 0:16:39Oh! Walk-in wardrobe.

0:16:39 > 0:16:43Summer, look at that. A walk-in wardrobe. Oh, my God. Wow!

0:16:43 > 0:16:45That's so cool!

0:16:45 > 0:16:47- This is the one, isn't it? - This is the one.

0:16:47 > 0:16:50Sign me up, baby.

0:16:50 > 0:16:53I bet it's way above our budget though.

0:16:53 > 0:16:56This house seems to offer almost everything the Rogers wanted

0:16:56 > 0:16:59in their ideal Aussie home, but can they afford it

0:16:59 > 0:17:02on their £220,000 budget?

0:17:02 > 0:17:06This will be the moment of truth.

0:17:10 > 0:17:12Oh, yeah.

0:17:12 > 0:17:14That's out a bit, isn't it?

0:17:14 > 0:17:16Just a little bit.

0:17:16 > 0:17:18We say it's out a bit,

0:17:18 > 0:17:24but we might both get well-paid jobs, and then we could afford it.

0:17:24 > 0:17:29Until we've looked into that, all's not lost.

0:17:29 > 0:17:33- What do you think of this house, do you think it's cool?- Yeah, wicked.

0:17:33 > 0:17:35What do you like about it most?

0:17:35 > 0:17:39- The space.- It's nice, open-plan.

0:17:39 > 0:17:42Good, I'm glad you're happy.

0:17:42 > 0:17:45It's been an eye-opening day for the Rogers.

0:17:45 > 0:17:47The first house was affordable,

0:17:47 > 0:17:49but it didn't have that

0:17:49 > 0:17:51all-important fourth bedroom.

0:17:51 > 0:17:53The second had potential,

0:17:53 > 0:17:54but would have stretched

0:17:54 > 0:17:56their budget to make room

0:17:56 > 0:17:58for everyone. And the final house

0:17:58 > 0:17:59seemed a perfect fit.

0:17:59 > 0:18:01It even impressed Ollie.

0:18:01 > 0:18:03But all that promise

0:18:03 > 0:18:05came at a very high price.

0:18:05 > 0:18:07So how will they vote?

0:18:09 > 0:18:12We've had a great day today, looking at all three properties.

0:18:12 > 0:18:16It's given us an insight of what it's going to be like

0:18:16 > 0:18:17living in Australian properties,

0:18:17 > 0:18:20so on that note, we're going to vote...

0:18:23 > 0:18:24Australia!

0:18:29 > 0:18:32- You're England! - Yeah, you're England.

0:18:32 > 0:18:34That surprises me.

0:18:34 > 0:18:38- Why?- I thought you said you liked the houses.

0:18:38 > 0:18:42I voted UK because no matter how amazing the houses were,

0:18:42 > 0:18:46because they're incredible, I don't reckon Australia will be my home.

0:18:46 > 0:18:48The properties I saw in Australia today,

0:18:48 > 0:18:51they met my expectations.

0:18:51 > 0:18:55I didn't think we'd be able to see houses like that

0:18:55 > 0:18:59within our budget, so I'm pleased. I thought I'd be disappointed,

0:18:59 > 0:19:03but I could definitely see me living in those properties.

0:19:08 > 0:19:11Despite some hefty price tags,

0:19:11 > 0:19:14Ty and Tasha were won over with Australian property,

0:19:14 > 0:19:16even if Ollie was less convinced,

0:19:16 > 0:19:20but with homes looking expensive, it puts the pressure on Ty and Tasha

0:19:20 > 0:19:22to find good work opportunities.

0:19:22 > 0:19:28Having spent years retraining, back at home, Ty is now an electrician.

0:19:28 > 0:19:31He earns around £24,000 a year.

0:19:31 > 0:19:34If I can secure the right job in Australia,

0:19:34 > 0:19:38then, yeah, it can be everything I want it to be.

0:19:40 > 0:19:43- Bye, kids, see you later!- Bye!

0:19:43 > 0:19:45Today, he'll have a chance to find out

0:19:45 > 0:19:47whether all that effort has been worthwhile.

0:19:47 > 0:19:50He knows exactly what's at stake.

0:19:50 > 0:19:53The whole move revolves around

0:19:53 > 0:19:57having a better family life,

0:19:57 > 0:20:02and spending quality time with the family, with the children.

0:20:02 > 0:20:06So it's a little bit nerve-wracking.

0:20:06 > 0:20:09If I don't get the right results, or hear the right things

0:20:09 > 0:20:13I want to hear, then it could end everything.

0:20:16 > 0:20:20He is meeting Steve, a fellow Brit, who left the UK

0:20:20 > 0:20:22looking for a new start in Australia.

0:20:22 > 0:20:25Eight years on, he now runs his own electrical company.

0:20:25 > 0:20:29I hear that you want to try looking at being a sparkie over here.

0:20:29 > 0:20:32I think the best way to do that, we jump in the van,

0:20:32 > 0:20:35we'll drive round the road and we'll take it from there.

0:20:35 > 0:20:37- Excellent, that's great.- OK?- Lovely.

0:20:37 > 0:20:41Ty's qualifications are key to the Rogers getting visas but, faced with

0:20:41 > 0:20:47high property costs, a second income could be every bit as important.

0:20:47 > 0:20:51So Tasha's heading to a local YMCA to meet Brad, the manager.

0:20:51 > 0:20:56She hopes returning to a job she loves might help to afford the move.

0:20:56 > 0:20:59So you've obviously been in the fitness industry for a little while

0:20:59 > 0:21:01in the UK. What sort of things have you done there?

0:21:01 > 0:21:05- Give me a run-down of where you've been, what you've done.- I teach

0:21:05 > 0:21:08legs, bums and tums, yoga, circuits.

0:21:08 > 0:21:10We are always constantly on the lookout for instructors,

0:21:10 > 0:21:12whether they be fill instructors,

0:21:12 > 0:21:16which gets your foot in the door. Right now, I'm looking to fill,

0:21:16 > 0:21:18probably, six classes a week.

0:21:18 > 0:21:20A good instructor gets a lot of work. A great instructor,

0:21:20 > 0:21:22you'll never be out of work.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25That's exactly what Tasha wanted to hear.

0:21:25 > 0:21:27But what about the salary?

0:21:27 > 0:21:32Income-wise, you're talking anywhere from 40 to 60 dollars per class,

0:21:32 > 0:21:34depending on which particular class,

0:21:34 > 0:21:36or if you were to do three full-time days a week -

0:21:36 > 0:21:40part-time, but three full-time days - you're probably talking,

0:21:40 > 0:21:43over the course of a year, about 30,000 for the year.

0:21:43 > 0:21:47How does that salary compare to what you might earn in the UK?

0:21:47 > 0:21:49Yeah, really good. I'm really pleased with that. Yes.

0:21:49 > 0:21:53That's around £20,000 a year -

0:21:53 > 0:21:56about 13,000 more than Tasha earns in the UK.

0:21:56 > 0:21:59And working part time here would leave her

0:21:59 > 0:22:01plenty of time for the family.

0:22:01 > 0:22:04But it's Ty who must find a job to win them their visas.

0:22:05 > 0:22:09One of the big worries for me is, I'll have to come over here

0:22:09 > 0:22:12and I'd have to throw myself into a job straightaway.

0:22:12 > 0:22:15How easy will it be for me to start working?

0:22:15 > 0:22:17Once you've got your training permit with your input,

0:22:17 > 0:22:20you should be able to get a full licence within six months.

0:22:20 > 0:22:23Once you've got your licence, you can work anywhere.

0:22:23 > 0:22:25What about that all-important bottom line?

0:22:25 > 0:22:29What sort of wage can a sparky expect to earn over here?

0:22:29 > 0:22:32At first, you're only going to be on a training permit.

0:22:32 > 0:22:33You need to get a job.

0:22:33 > 0:22:35They are not going to pay you the full rate,

0:22:35 > 0:22:41so you're going to be on anywhere between 24-28 an hour.

0:22:41 > 0:22:45Then you can be looking at 28 to 32, maybe 34.

0:22:45 > 0:22:49- How does that sound to you?- It sounds brilliant, amazing, to be honest.

0:22:49 > 0:22:51Just the sort of answers I'm looking for.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54Steve seems to be giving Ty all the right answers,

0:22:54 > 0:22:57but he has one last question before he leaves.

0:22:57 > 0:22:59Any chance of a job?

0:22:59 > 0:23:03Look, come back when you've got your permit and we might look at it.

0:23:03 > 0:23:05What I can do is, why don't you come round tonight

0:23:05 > 0:23:08for an Aussie barbie with a few friends of mine?

0:23:08 > 0:23:11- Excellent.- Then we can have a chat. - My first Australian barbecue,

0:23:11 > 0:23:13- brilliant!- There you go. Let's go.

0:23:13 > 0:23:17After a day at work, both Ty and Tasha's prospects look good.

0:23:17 > 0:23:20Before they head out for a taste of Aussie tucker,

0:23:20 > 0:23:22they meet up to compare notes.

0:23:23 > 0:23:25- How did it go?- Yeah, good.

0:23:25 > 0:23:27- Do you need any more training?- Yeah.

0:23:27 > 0:23:31I've got to do a bit more training while I'm over here.

0:23:31 > 0:23:35But I can still work before I do the training

0:23:35 > 0:23:37and then get my certificates.

0:23:37 > 0:23:41Once I've got my certificates, then I'm an approved electrician.

0:23:41 > 0:23:44- So, important, how much can you earn?- £35,000, starting.

0:23:44 > 0:23:48Once I've qualified, which can take anything...

0:23:48 > 0:23:49six months plus,

0:23:49 > 0:23:53we can go up to £45,000 and then upwards.

0:23:53 > 0:23:57- That's wicked.- Yeah. Great news. - You'll be on more money training

0:23:57 > 0:24:00than you would fully qualified in the UK.

0:24:00 > 0:24:02- Yeah.- That's wicked.

0:24:02 > 0:24:06That looks like two very happy Rogers.

0:24:06 > 0:24:08I wonder which way they will vote!

0:24:08 > 0:24:11I've had a great day, finding out what it will be like

0:24:11 > 0:24:14- working in Australia. - I've also had a great day.

0:24:14 > 0:24:15Based on that, I'm going to vote...

0:24:17 > 0:24:18BOTH: Australia.

0:24:23 > 0:24:25- Yay!- Yay!

0:24:25 > 0:24:27THEY LAUGH

0:24:27 > 0:24:30With a big leap in their income a real possibility,

0:24:30 > 0:24:35it's a huge boost for Ty and Tasha's hopes of emigrating.

0:24:35 > 0:24:38Steve's barbie seems the perfect way to celebrate.

0:24:38 > 0:24:40The Australian way!

0:24:40 > 0:24:43WATER SPLASHES

0:24:47 > 0:24:51After checking out their work prospects, both Ty and Tasha

0:24:51 > 0:24:55are even more convinced their future lies in Australia.

0:24:55 > 0:24:57But there are still plenty of obstacles

0:24:57 > 0:24:59standing in the way of their plans.

0:24:59 > 0:25:02So will finding out how much they can earn from the sale

0:25:02 > 0:25:07of their home provide them with answers or even more questions?

0:25:07 > 0:25:11To fund their move, it's vital the Rogers raise every penny they can

0:25:11 > 0:25:14from the sale of their house in Weston-super-Mare.

0:25:14 > 0:25:17Cool, that's our house!

0:25:17 > 0:25:21They believe it's worth £145,000.

0:25:21 > 0:25:23But will two local estate agents agree?

0:25:25 > 0:25:31Smallish kitchen, a range of basic units. Built-in cooker and hob.

0:25:39 > 0:25:42Another nice, light room. Good-sized double.

0:25:42 > 0:25:45Built-in bedroom furniture.

0:25:47 > 0:25:48It's your bedroom!

0:25:48 > 0:25:52It's a reasonable sized second bedroom.

0:25:52 > 0:25:56Looks like it's home to a little girl and a hamster.

0:25:56 > 0:25:57Little girl?

0:26:00 > 0:26:04- I guess it's a teenager's. He's got his surfboard ready.- Mmm.

0:26:04 > 0:26:07Modern, white bathroom suite, with a shower over the bath,

0:26:07 > 0:26:09and some quite funky black tiles.

0:26:09 > 0:26:11That's right, yeah.

0:26:11 > 0:26:13I believe the property will be quite sought after.

0:26:13 > 0:26:16It's a popular area and it has a good-sized garden.

0:26:16 > 0:26:18I would say with the current market conditions,

0:26:18 > 0:26:22- my valuation would be between £142,000 to £145,000.- Woo!

0:26:22 > 0:26:24That's pretty good, isn't it?

0:26:24 > 0:26:27A reasonable sized house, three-bedroom family home.

0:26:27 > 0:26:30I would value the house between £135,000 to £145,000.

0:26:30 > 0:26:33- Hmm.- I'll take the first one.

0:26:33 > 0:26:37But it's what we thought, or maybe a bit more. It's good.

0:26:37 > 0:26:39Yeah, I'm pleased.

0:26:39 > 0:26:43The valuations are almost exactly what Ty and Tasha were hoping for.

0:26:43 > 0:26:47Everything now hangs on the cost of living.

0:26:47 > 0:26:50We've prepared a breakdown of the family's expenses.

0:26:50 > 0:26:53Based on their calculations, they will find out

0:26:53 > 0:26:55if they can afford to live down under.

0:26:57 > 0:27:00There's some things that are a little bit more expensive here.

0:27:00 > 0:27:03There's quite a lot of things that are cheaper here.

0:27:03 > 0:27:10UK, for our shopping list, £105.04.

0:27:10 > 0:27:13In Australia, it's £125.54.

0:27:13 > 0:27:16The weekly food shop in Australia

0:27:16 > 0:27:19is slightly more expensive than back home.

0:27:19 > 0:27:22But the monthly mortgage could be a dealbreaker.

0:27:22 > 0:27:25- Obviously, house number three is the one we prefer.- Yeah.

0:27:25 > 0:27:27The repayments are quite high.

0:27:27 > 0:27:30Would we be paying 1,468, if we wanted that house?

0:27:30 > 0:27:33That's a huge leap in the family expenses.

0:27:33 > 0:27:38- £660 a month more...- Yeah.- ..than what we're paying at the moment.

0:27:38 > 0:27:42So it's all down to whether their Australian salaries

0:27:42 > 0:27:44can cover the difference.

0:27:44 > 0:27:48Me, 32, Tasha, £20,000.

0:27:48 > 0:27:50Combined of £52,000.

0:27:50 > 0:27:52775.

0:27:53 > 0:27:58£775 a month more.

0:27:58 > 0:27:59Here.

0:27:59 > 0:28:04With both Ty and Tasha earning, how do the numbers finally add up?

0:28:05 > 0:28:10£125 a month better off here.

0:28:10 > 0:28:12- That's good.- That is good.

0:28:12 > 0:28:15Because obviously, we're better off. £125 a month better off.

0:28:15 > 0:28:18So we can live in the house that we want

0:28:18 > 0:28:19and we're better off.

0:28:19 > 0:28:23- And that is on my lowest wage. - That's on your lowest wage as well.

0:28:23 > 0:28:26Until I get my permits. Like I say, it's going to go up.

0:28:26 > 0:28:29- That's me just doing three days a week as well.- Yeah.

0:28:29 > 0:28:32- Yay!- That's good. - That is really good.- Yeah.

0:28:34 > 0:28:37- Let's go.- That is good news, isn't it?- Book it.

0:28:37 > 0:28:42It's a fantastic result and my money is firmly on another vote for Oz.

0:28:42 > 0:28:45Based on the cost of living in Australia,

0:28:45 > 0:28:46we are going to be voting...

0:28:50 > 0:28:52- ..Australia.- Australia.

0:28:58 > 0:29:00With their dream looking affordable,

0:29:00 > 0:29:03Ty and Tasha look ready to pack their bags for good.

0:29:03 > 0:29:07But amidst all the positive news, there's still one person who's

0:29:07 > 0:29:10yet to buy into the idea of living down under. Could sampling

0:29:10 > 0:29:14the lifestyle convince Oliver that Australia could offer him

0:29:14 > 0:29:16a future too?

0:29:16 > 0:29:20The Rogers have an active family life back home. For Ty, spending

0:29:20 > 0:29:24time on a classic Aussie beach is exactly what they came all this way

0:29:24 > 0:29:26to experience.

0:29:26 > 0:29:30Coming to Australia, it's not the whole thing about

0:29:30 > 0:29:35earning lots of money and being rich, it's all about this.

0:29:35 > 0:29:38Spending time with the family, on the beach,

0:29:38 > 0:29:43in the sunshine, in the sea, and just chilling.

0:29:43 > 0:29:46Both Ty and Tasha are hoping that it's this lifestyle

0:29:46 > 0:29:49that could win Ollie round to their dream.

0:29:49 > 0:29:52We've definitely seen a change in Oliver this week. He's loved

0:29:52 > 0:29:56every minute of it. You know, he's enjoyed, sort of, just relaxing,

0:29:56 > 0:29:59chilling out and having fun, which somebody of his age

0:29:59 > 0:30:00should be doing.

0:30:03 > 0:30:05I just really hope he chooses Australia.

0:30:05 > 0:30:09They've spent all week avoiding one big question,

0:30:09 > 0:30:13but now it's time for mother and son to have a heart-to-heart.

0:30:13 > 0:30:17- Do you want to stay in the UK?- Yeah.

0:30:20 > 0:30:24- You don't think you might even just give it a go?- No.

0:30:24 > 0:30:27I don't understand why.

0:30:27 > 0:30:30- It's just no.- But why? - Just... Just no.

0:30:30 > 0:30:34- Because I want you to, and you're stubborn?- Yeah.

0:30:34 > 0:30:40- Can you understand our frustration that you're quite resistant?- Yeah.

0:30:40 > 0:30:45- And don't feel as if I'm abandoning you?- No, definitely not.

0:30:45 > 0:30:48I'm OK.

0:30:48 > 0:30:52It's a difficult conversation for Ollie and Tasha, and a reminder of

0:30:52 > 0:30:55the painful choice they will soon be facing.

0:30:55 > 0:30:59What am I supposed to do? Not come, not bring Ellis and Summer

0:30:59 > 0:31:03over here and have this wonderful childhood that they could have

0:31:03 > 0:31:08because he doesn't want to come over? He might decide that he'll

0:31:08 > 0:31:12come over in the end, it all might work out. Because if I stay in the UK

0:31:12 > 0:31:17and think that he wasn't going to come over, he might come over!

0:31:17 > 0:31:19Then you think, well, is it worth it,

0:31:19 > 0:31:22is it worth, you know, the nice scenery,

0:31:22 > 0:31:27is it worth leaving my child behind for that? It's incredibly selfish,

0:31:27 > 0:31:30isn't it? It's the lifestyle we're moving out here for, so if he could

0:31:30 > 0:31:35vote Australia on the lifestyle, then I'd be happy that he'll understand

0:31:35 > 0:31:37why I'm doing it.

0:31:37 > 0:31:40With emotions running high,

0:31:40 > 0:31:44taking time out could be just what's needed.

0:31:44 > 0:31:48For Ollie, it's a chance to indulge a favourite hobby - free running.

0:31:48 > 0:31:51Away from the family, he opens up.

0:31:51 > 0:31:56So far, I'm finding Australia very...different.

0:31:56 > 0:31:59I am slowly falling in love with the place.

0:31:59 > 0:32:03Even if I chose not to move to Australia, I could still imagine

0:32:03 > 0:32:07my family living here without me. If I'm completely honest,

0:32:07 > 0:32:11I'd be jealous of them, but I don't think I'd mind, purely because of

0:32:11 > 0:32:14what they want to do. I'd mind, I'd miss 'em, but I'd just go over

0:32:14 > 0:32:17and see them now and then, for a couple of months.

0:32:17 > 0:32:20It looks like Ollie's heart is still firmly in the UK, but making

0:32:20 > 0:32:23such a huge decision has him torn.

0:32:23 > 0:32:26It's harder now, because I've got a lot of choices,

0:32:26 > 0:32:29to pick which one I want to do, because I realise to myself,

0:32:29 > 0:32:33it's not only my dad, I've got two other brothers and sisters.

0:32:33 > 0:32:36It's kind of like, it seems weird because it kind of looks like,

0:32:36 > 0:32:38to my mum and dad, pick which one you love more.

0:32:38 > 0:32:42That's a tough position for anyone to handle and Ollie's under

0:32:42 > 0:32:46a lot of pressure. So has he enjoyed the lifestyle enough

0:32:46 > 0:32:48to vote for Australia?

0:32:48 > 0:32:49We've had a great time

0:32:49 > 0:32:53sampling the Australian lifestyle, and now it's time to vote.

0:32:56 > 0:33:02- Australia.- Australia. - Undecided.- Ooh, OK, interesting.

0:33:02 > 0:33:05- How come you're undecided, Summer? - Because I absolutely love

0:33:05 > 0:33:08the Australian lifestyle, but it wouldn't be a lifestyle

0:33:08 > 0:33:11without friends and family.

0:33:11 > 0:33:14- Fair enough. Oliver? - Basically the same, in that I love

0:33:14 > 0:33:18the Australian lifestyle, but at the same time, I've grown used to

0:33:18 > 0:33:21what mine is and I like the way mine is going at the moment.

0:33:21 > 0:33:24That's it, really, I just don't know.

0:33:30 > 0:33:34Their taste of the Aussie lifestyle was a bittersweet experience

0:33:34 > 0:33:37for the Rogers and Summer's vote was a reminder of everything

0:33:37 > 0:33:40they'd be leaving if they chose to move down under.

0:33:40 > 0:33:43So will seeing messages from their loved ones

0:33:43 > 0:33:45put all their plans back on hold?

0:33:47 > 0:33:49- Ready? - ALL: Yes.

0:33:49 > 0:33:52With Ellis having an early night, Ty and Tasha are happy to watch

0:33:52 > 0:33:55their families' messages with Ollie and Summer.

0:33:55 > 0:33:58- Hello!- Hello! Hope you're all having a wonderful time.

0:33:58 > 0:34:01Hello, gang. Hope all is well.

0:34:01 > 0:34:04Ty's not only my son, he's my best mate.

0:34:04 > 0:34:05He is such a great lad

0:34:05 > 0:34:10and they're pretty happy over there. They're all together, ain't they?

0:34:10 > 0:34:13Tasha, as a daughter, is a very good daughter.

0:34:13 > 0:34:15She's very loving...

0:34:15 > 0:34:18It was a bit of a shock when she suddenly announced to us that

0:34:18 > 0:34:21she was considering emigrating to Australia.

0:34:21 > 0:34:23I think every opportunity,

0:34:23 > 0:34:26you should take, and I've always told my children that.

0:34:26 > 0:34:28You must take them, if you're able to,

0:34:28 > 0:34:31because they don't come around very often.

0:34:31 > 0:34:34Oliver, I would just miss his sense of humour,

0:34:34 > 0:34:39and the messages he sends me. And Summer, I'd just miss her,

0:34:39 > 0:34:42I like to be in her company. And Ellis,

0:34:42 > 0:34:46he's just terrific, he makes me laugh.

0:34:46 > 0:34:49Of course we'll miss you here, but we can only hope for the best

0:34:49 > 0:34:55for all of you and I think this would be a good thing for you to do.

0:34:55 > 0:34:57Whatever you do, we'll support you in every way.

0:34:57 > 0:35:00- God bless you all.- We love you all.

0:35:00 > 0:35:02We love you so much.

0:35:06 > 0:35:07- All right?- Ah!

0:35:09 > 0:35:13For me, it's really painful, just watching that

0:35:13 > 0:35:18- I've upset my mum and dad. - We're getting to the age now

0:35:18 > 0:35:21where we've got to make that decision to go, because if we don't

0:35:21 > 0:35:25do it now, it's going to be too late, we won't ever be able to go.

0:35:25 > 0:35:28I think we'll be, sort of, regretting that

0:35:28 > 0:35:31for the rest of our lives, if we don't try.

0:35:35 > 0:35:38Leaving the people you love is always the biggest cost

0:35:38 > 0:35:41of emigrating, but for Ty, Tasha and Ollie, it's a price

0:35:41 > 0:35:44they may well have to pay for the lives they want.

0:35:44 > 0:35:47After years of planning their Australian dream,

0:35:47 > 0:35:50it's time for the Rogers to make their final decision.

0:35:54 > 0:35:58Coming to Australia and being able to sample the lifestyle and the life

0:35:58 > 0:36:03that we could have, I think it's been a real success.

0:36:03 > 0:36:07I have really enjoyed watching the kids this week.

0:36:07 > 0:36:11They've really opened up to the fact of just

0:36:11 > 0:36:13being kids, they've just enjoyed themselves.

0:36:13 > 0:36:20All I can think about at the moment is trying to get Oliver to come.

0:36:21 > 0:36:26I get angry, upset, confused about the situation I'm in,

0:36:26 > 0:36:30because I just kind of think, how ironic!

0:36:30 > 0:36:32Out of everyone else in Weston,

0:36:32 > 0:36:34it has to be my parents who want to move.

0:36:34 > 0:36:38Do I not come? Do I say we're not going because Oliver isn't coming

0:36:38 > 0:36:42and then he might think, I would have liked to have come, you know,

0:36:42 > 0:36:44one day?

0:36:44 > 0:36:49I have been telling her for years, I'm not going.

0:36:49 > 0:36:54Or do I come and then hopefully, he'll just...he might follow?

0:36:54 > 0:36:56I reckon she'll still go for it,

0:36:56 > 0:36:58even if it means having to leave me behind.

0:36:58 > 0:37:02But, you know, he'll be a grown man soon.

0:37:05 > 0:37:06It's a massive decision,

0:37:06 > 0:37:09but with their week in Brisbane over,

0:37:09 > 0:37:11which life will the Rogers choose?

0:37:15 > 0:37:17Australia.

0:37:19 > 0:37:20Australia.

0:37:30 > 0:37:33Undecided!

0:37:38 > 0:37:43- So, undecided. How come?- Because I absolutely love it here and I would

0:37:43 > 0:37:46love to live here, but it's just, like...

0:37:46 > 0:37:49It's just the pull of family and friends?

0:37:49 > 0:37:52- Yeah.- And why are you undecided?

0:37:52 > 0:37:56Erm, because I like here.

0:37:56 > 0:38:01I really want to live here, so...

0:38:01 > 0:38:07- Okey-dokey, and no surprises with you, then!- No, I just, like Summer,

0:38:07 > 0:38:11I love it here, I'd love to live here, but just too much

0:38:11 > 0:38:14to leave family and friends just yet.

0:38:14 > 0:38:16So maybe it's not a complete no?

0:38:16 > 0:38:20- 89%.- Maybe a 75?

0:38:20 > 0:38:24- 89% no.- OK. OK.

0:38:35 > 0:38:39After a week to remember, Ty and Tasha's Australian dream

0:38:39 > 0:38:44hung in the balance, with Oliver and Summer still unable to be won over

0:38:44 > 0:38:47with the idea of emigrating to Australia. So I have come to

0:38:47 > 0:38:49Weston-super-Mare to find out

0:38:49 > 0:38:52what has happened since the family got back a few weeks ago,

0:38:52 > 0:38:55and to see if anyone has had a change of heart.

0:38:59 > 0:39:03The Rogers stayed on a few weeks and got to know more of Australia,

0:39:03 > 0:39:04but after returning home,

0:39:04 > 0:39:08there's been a development in Ollie's life.

0:39:08 > 0:39:11The bottom line is, his dad's requested that he stays in the UK

0:39:11 > 0:39:16until he is 18, so you've two years to wait until he can make the move,

0:39:16 > 0:39:21should he want to. But if he decides not to emigrate to Australia,

0:39:21 > 0:39:23are you two confirmed on going?

0:39:23 > 0:39:27Still lies with Tasha, whether she can...if Oliver doesn't decide

0:39:27 > 0:39:33to come, then whether we make the big decision of going without him.

0:39:34 > 0:39:38God, I don't quite know. Oh, dear.

0:39:38 > 0:39:42I think...yes.

0:39:42 > 0:39:45- It's not easy, is it?- No.

0:39:45 > 0:39:48I'm sure you both really appreciate it must be so tough for Oliver,

0:39:48 > 0:39:52because at 18, in a way, he is being asked to choose between

0:39:52 > 0:39:57- his mum or his dad.- I think, if it comes to it and he's not sure,

0:39:57 > 0:40:00then I will just say, I will always be here for you,

0:40:00 > 0:40:04but instead of thinking about, "Do I want to stay with my mum,

0:40:04 > 0:40:07"or do I want to stay with my dad?", you're your own person,

0:40:07 > 0:40:09with your own life to lead

0:40:09 > 0:40:13and you have to think which country you'd prefer to see yourself

0:40:13 > 0:40:17living in, not actually who's there. And just,

0:40:17 > 0:40:19you know, be true to yourself, really.

0:40:19 > 0:40:23But in your heart of hearts, you struggle to see yourself on that

0:40:23 > 0:40:28- flight without him, don't you?- Yes, definitely, yeah.- Both of you.

0:40:28 > 0:40:32- Yeah. Yeah, definitely. - I'm going to go again.

0:40:32 > 0:40:34- Yeah.- Yeah.

0:40:40 > 0:40:44So in an ideal world, Oliver, at 18, which is the crunch time, really,

0:40:44 > 0:40:48when you've got to decide if you are going to go out or not, you are

0:40:48 > 0:40:52going to be a young person, you'll have left school, the world is your

0:40:52 > 0:40:56oyster. And in a way, I suppose, you've got to think about you,

0:40:56 > 0:40:59as well as your family, but you've also got to think what's right

0:40:59 > 0:41:01for you, for your future.

0:41:03 > 0:41:08- My dream is to buy a Volkswagen van and travel Australia.- Is it?- It is.

0:41:08 > 0:41:11- With your mates?- That would be wicked.- So, after school, you could

0:41:11 > 0:41:15- see yourself perhaps travelling round Oz?- I'll see.

0:41:15 > 0:41:18- I'll let you know. - Yeah.- 30% chance.- 30%,

0:41:18 > 0:41:22- that's quite a good ratio now.- Yeah,

0:41:22 > 0:41:26but it's not 50, and it's not over 50. It's just...

0:41:26 > 0:41:29Hey, you've still got two more years to decide. You're not going

0:41:29 > 0:41:32- anywhere until you're 18, so... - I know, yeah.

0:41:32 > 0:41:36Since you've been home, you haven't really discussed Australia

0:41:36 > 0:41:39- with your mum and Ty, have you? - Not really, no.

0:41:39 > 0:41:42Shall we nip downstairs, now I've got you altogether,

0:41:42 > 0:41:46- see what you're all thinking? - Yeah.- Come on, then.

0:41:53 > 0:41:58Two years, big decisions to be made for the whole family. If they decide

0:41:58 > 0:42:02to emigrate to Australia, do you think you might go out

0:42:02 > 0:42:04and visit them, go travelling?

0:42:06 > 0:42:08I'd definitely visit them.

0:42:08 > 0:42:11I definitely will go travelling, but I still don't know

0:42:11 > 0:42:12if I'd live over there,

0:42:12 > 0:42:15but I'd definitely go travelling. Definitely.

0:42:17 > 0:42:21- Would you get on the plane, to come over with us?- You could start

0:42:21 > 0:42:26the travelling, at the same time, couldn't you? We could all go over

0:42:26 > 0:42:29together and then you can travel from there.

0:42:30 > 0:42:32Yeah, I would.

0:42:35 > 0:42:39- It's a start.- Yes, that is a start. - We'll go with that.

0:42:47 > 0:42:51For Oliver, it was never going to be easy trying to keep everybody happy,

0:42:51 > 0:42:55but when he turns 18, it sounds like he is desperate to go travelling,

0:42:55 > 0:42:57and Australia is in his sights.
