0:00:02 > 0:00:06Building a future with your partner is one of life's great adventures.

0:00:06 > 0:00:09But if you can't agree which side of the world to spend it,

0:00:09 > 0:00:12even the strongest relationships can be tested.

0:00:14 > 0:00:18Leah Clanahan left Australia for the UK ten years ago.

0:00:18 > 0:00:21Now she is desperate to return home.

0:00:21 > 0:00:23I think if we don't go back to Australia to live,

0:00:23 > 0:00:25I am going to be broken-hearted.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28But for husband Andrew, that is a massive ask.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31If I leave the UK then I'm leaving my family behind,

0:00:31 > 0:00:35that I very much care for and don't want to do that.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38Being torn between relatives on opposite sides of the globe

0:00:38 > 0:00:40is affecting the whole family.

0:00:40 > 0:00:44I'm a bit worried about my mum and dad,

0:00:44 > 0:00:49if one stays in Scotland and one stays in Australia.

0:00:49 > 0:00:53Now it is decision time for the Clanahans.

0:00:53 > 0:00:57After this week, if it is a no, I have to totally change my life.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20In the last 20 years,

0:01:20 > 0:01:24over 600,000 British citizens have moved to Australia,

0:01:24 > 0:01:29drawn by its warm climate, endless beaches and wide-open countryside.

0:01:29 > 0:01:33The country is a magnet for those seeking a better life abroad,

0:01:33 > 0:01:36but for some, Australia doesn't live up to expectations

0:01:36 > 0:01:39and around a third return home having given up the dream.

0:01:41 > 0:01:43The Clanahans have visited Leah's family

0:01:43 > 0:01:47in Adelaide before, but this is a very different trip.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50Leah's dream of permanently returning home to her loved ones

0:01:50 > 0:01:53depends what happens in the next week.

0:01:53 > 0:01:58Will she be able to convince Andrew to uproot the family from everything

0:01:58 > 0:02:02they know and love in the UK and make the move down under for good?

0:02:05 > 0:02:08The family may be familiar with the 10,000-mile flight to Adelaide,

0:02:08 > 0:02:12but the marathon journey still takes its toll.

0:02:14 > 0:02:18We've left Friday afternoon and this is now Sunday morning.

0:02:18 > 0:02:22- We've pretty much been travelling the whole time.- It was a bit long.

0:02:22 > 0:02:26The feeling of coming home is fantastic. The air is different.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28I know people will think I'm stupid saying that,

0:02:28 > 0:02:30but there's just something about Australia.

0:02:30 > 0:02:33And more than 24 hours in the air has given Andrew

0:02:33 > 0:02:35plenty of time for serious thinking.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37Quite apprehensive about the week ahead,

0:02:37 > 0:02:40because, for us to sell up in the UK, what is my house worth?

0:02:40 > 0:02:43I don't know what it is like here, no idea. I don't know the salaries,

0:02:43 > 0:02:46I honestly don't know what we would be able to afford.

0:02:46 > 0:02:48I know Australia is the place I want to be,

0:02:48 > 0:02:50I just need Andrew to realise that as well.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55If Andrew doesn't find the right answers to his questions

0:02:55 > 0:02:59in the week ahead, it could be the end of Leah's dreams for good.

0:03:03 > 0:03:07The Clanahan family are Andrew, Leah, Brodie who is two,

0:03:07 > 0:03:12and Marlee, aged eight. They live in Lauder near Edinburgh.

0:03:12 > 0:03:16Leah is originally from Adelaide in South Australia.

0:03:16 > 0:03:20I came here ten years ago on a backpacker's trip,

0:03:20 > 0:03:24and I met Andrew, and that kind of just changed the whole trip.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26It was never, ever meant to be anything serious

0:03:26 > 0:03:30because she knew she was going back home. That was always her intention.

0:03:30 > 0:03:32When photographer Leah became pregnant with Marlee,

0:03:32 > 0:03:36a move back to Australia could still have been on the cards.

0:03:36 > 0:03:38That was until Andrew was dealt a blow.

0:03:38 > 0:03:42We were talking about this is the time we need to go to Australia and

0:03:42 > 0:03:43do we want Marlee to be born here,

0:03:43 > 0:03:46would we want her to be born in Australia?

0:03:46 > 0:03:49We were really discussing it. That is when we lost his father.

0:03:51 > 0:03:54My family are very close, it was just the four of us, my sister,

0:03:54 > 0:04:00myself, Mum and Dad and when Dad went, that was a big shock to us.

0:04:00 > 0:04:04I suppose any plans that we had were put on hold.

0:04:04 > 0:04:08Leah was desperate to bring her daughter up around her own family down under.

0:04:08 > 0:04:11But that would have meant Andrew leaving his behind,

0:04:11 > 0:04:14- just when they needed him most. - That just changed everything.

0:04:14 > 0:04:16All I wanted to do was go home.

0:04:16 > 0:04:19This was my first baby and it made me realise,

0:04:19 > 0:04:21I think it emphasised to me where I want to be.

0:04:21 > 0:04:24The family are spending all their spare cash on trips to Adelaide,

0:04:24 > 0:04:28but that is putting huge financial strain on them.

0:04:28 > 0:04:31Yeah, I mean, it costs me an absolute fortune to go out Australia.

0:04:31 > 0:04:35And the reason we keep going on holiday, but not moving out there...

0:04:35 > 0:04:39Is just purely because not knowing work wise what I would get

0:04:39 > 0:04:42when I go over there. I am settled here.

0:04:42 > 0:04:47I have got a job that I enjoy doing, that is reasonably paid

0:04:47 > 0:04:50and it is leaving everybody behind.

0:04:50 > 0:04:53Leaving his mum behind would be a massive wrench

0:04:53 > 0:04:56and that is a situation Leah is all too familiar with.

0:04:56 > 0:04:58My mum is on her own.

0:04:58 > 0:05:03My sister is there, but...and I know your mum is on her own as well.

0:05:03 > 0:05:05This is why we end up having a debate

0:05:05 > 0:05:08because all those feelings that you've got are exactly what I've got.

0:05:08 > 0:05:10Yeah, you're right.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13Torn between families on opposite sides of the globe,

0:05:13 > 0:05:15things are becoming desperate.

0:05:15 > 0:05:19I think our relationship has certainly changed in the last couple of years.

0:05:19 > 0:05:21I certainly feel more resentful to him,

0:05:21 > 0:05:25especially when he makes comments about leaving his family behind.

0:05:25 > 0:05:29That really hurts me because I've left my family behind as well.

0:05:29 > 0:05:32And the implications of being unable to persuade Andrew to make

0:05:32 > 0:05:34a move are already weighing on Leah's mind.

0:05:34 > 0:05:38I worry about my mother getting older and who is going to look after her,

0:05:38 > 0:05:41and all the worries Andrew has for his mum at the moment,

0:05:41 > 0:05:44I have for my mum every day so...

0:05:46 > 0:05:50After this week, if it is a no, I have to totally change my life

0:05:50 > 0:05:52and my thinking.

0:05:52 > 0:05:55Andrew knows his wife's future happiness is at stake.

0:05:56 > 0:06:01It makes me feel pretty down myself, seeing that Leah is unhappy.

0:06:01 > 0:06:04I am well aware that if we go over to Australia that would be

0:06:04 > 0:06:07good for her and would make her feel so much better.

0:06:07 > 0:06:12- For Leah, a life down under means everything.- A dream come true for me

0:06:12 > 0:06:15would be to live my life in Australia.

0:06:17 > 0:06:18That's it.

0:06:20 > 0:06:22I know it's sad, but that would be my dream.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30The Clanahans are at crisis point.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33While Leah is desperate to be with her family, Andrew can't bear the

0:06:33 > 0:06:38thought of leaving his and is unsure of his job prospects in Australia.

0:06:38 > 0:06:39Over the next week,

0:06:39 > 0:06:43they'll explore every aspect of Australian living.

0:06:43 > 0:06:46Then Andrew will have to make a heartbreaking decision,

0:06:46 > 0:06:50whether to grant Leah her dream or stay in the UK for good.

0:06:55 > 0:06:59For this trial week, the Clanahans are staying in Dernan Court,

0:06:59 > 0:07:02an established suburb north-east of Adelaide.

0:07:02 > 0:07:03Just 10km from the city centre,

0:07:03 > 0:07:06and minutes away from Leah's mum's house.

0:07:06 > 0:07:10Their temporary home for the week is this period cottage.

0:07:10 > 0:07:13Will it put Andrew in the right frame of mind?

0:07:13 > 0:07:18- This is nice. This place is quite... Deceiving.- It is.

0:07:18 > 0:07:20It is just beautiful.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23It is very olde-worlde which I don't think Andrew believes

0:07:23 > 0:07:25Australia has to offer so that is good to show him that.

0:07:25 > 0:07:28This room is quite big, very high ceiling.

0:07:28 > 0:07:31Yes, that is what attracted us to our house in Scotland,

0:07:31 > 0:07:35- the high ceilings, didn't it?- Yes. - It is a good start.

0:07:35 > 0:07:37It is a nice place to spend the week.

0:07:37 > 0:07:40I don't think I could probably live here, somewhere like this,

0:07:40 > 0:07:43as I think it's on the small side compared with what we're used to.

0:07:43 > 0:07:46- The high ceilings again. - And the details.- Lots of details.

0:07:46 > 0:07:50So is that what you are saying, for an Australian house, you are looking for high ceilings?

0:07:50 > 0:07:51Not necessarily, no.

0:07:51 > 0:07:54I'm just saying it's got nice high ceilings.

0:07:54 > 0:07:57The hard sell is on, but is it too much, too soon?

0:07:57 > 0:08:00I get pressured when I come out to Australia all the time

0:08:00 > 0:08:03because Leah is thinking he doesn't want to move to Australia. But that is not the case.

0:08:03 > 0:08:06It's just the uncertainty of moving and what I would be coming out to do.

0:08:06 > 0:08:10I'm nervous that Andrew has come on this journey and he's thinking,

0:08:10 > 0:08:15"OK, let's find out, let's see what this is about," and then when we

0:08:15 > 0:08:18get the facts that he is going to be like, "See, I told you so.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21"This isn't for us," so, I have that worry.

0:08:21 > 0:08:25- The family's future rests on the week ahead.- It could be difficult.

0:08:25 > 0:08:28We could end up leaving here at the end of the week and she could be

0:08:28 > 0:08:32quite down about our decision if it ends up going to the UK.

0:08:32 > 0:08:35If I don't get what I want at the end of it, which is

0:08:35 > 0:08:39to move back to Australia, then I have to try and work out,

0:08:39 > 0:08:41can I live the rest of my life in Scotland?

0:08:41 > 0:08:45And daughter Marlee is also concerned about the future.

0:08:45 > 0:08:50I'm a bit worried about my mum and dad,

0:08:50 > 0:08:54if they decide if one stays in Scotland and one stays in Australia.

0:08:57 > 0:08:58With so much at stake,

0:08:58 > 0:09:02this week really will be crunch time for the Clanahans.

0:09:07 > 0:09:11Back home in Scotland the Clanahans live in a three-storey, five

0:09:11 > 0:09:15bedroom new-build in Lauder, a quiet village 30 miles from Edinburgh.

0:09:17 > 0:09:22It is a spacious modern family home which they bought six years ago,

0:09:22 > 0:09:27- for £283,000. - I really love this house.

0:09:27 > 0:09:30I think we are quite lucky having the space that we do.

0:09:30 > 0:09:32Probably it would be emotional to give up this home

0:09:32 > 0:09:34because we have raised our daughter here.

0:09:34 > 0:09:38She has been here since she was two years old. This is the only home she remembers.

0:09:38 > 0:09:41It gives you everything that I would want in a home, I suppose.

0:09:41 > 0:09:44It is just in the wrong country for me!

0:09:44 > 0:09:46Both Andrew and Leah have very clear ideas about what

0:09:46 > 0:09:48they would like from a house down under.

0:09:48 > 0:09:53The dream would be to be in a reasonable-size property that

0:09:53 > 0:09:55fits my family's requirements.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57Four bedrooms is what I'm really looking for.

0:09:57 > 0:09:59In Australia, growing up there

0:09:59 > 0:10:01I know the houses have big verandas around the house.

0:10:01 > 0:10:03I would love something like that.

0:10:03 > 0:10:07Because we've used any savings to go to Australia,

0:10:07 > 0:10:10any money I will be taking with us will be from the house.

0:10:10 > 0:10:14I think we're looking to spend between 250 and £300,000.

0:10:14 > 0:10:18If we go there and we find that in reality, we can only afford

0:10:18 > 0:10:22a one-bedroomed flat, then that is not going to happen.

0:10:22 > 0:10:24And we'll just maybe have to come to terms that

0:10:24 > 0:10:26Australia will be off for us.

0:10:27 > 0:10:29To give the Clanahans an idea of what

0:10:29 > 0:10:33they could buy in Adelaide, we are showing them three properties based

0:10:33 > 0:10:37on their budget and needs, from the affordable to their dream home.

0:10:37 > 0:10:41Only after seeing each property will they find out what they cost.

0:10:41 > 0:10:43The search begins in Mawson Lakes,

0:10:43 > 0:10:45a suburb in the north-east of Adelaide.

0:10:45 > 0:10:49It is a newly developing area, 20 minutes from Adelaide's city centre

0:10:49 > 0:10:51and 15 minutes from the beach.

0:10:51 > 0:10:55With shops, schools, childcare centres and Leah's family nearby,

0:10:55 > 0:10:58could it be the spot for the Clanahans' perfect home?

0:10:59 > 0:11:03- Oh, wow.- Ooh, this is different from how it looks outside, this is nice.

0:11:03 > 0:11:05- Nice long hallway.- Yes.

0:11:05 > 0:11:07Very long hallway.

0:11:07 > 0:11:10- This would be your bedroom, Marlee. - It is a reasonable size.

0:11:10 > 0:11:11It has got good wardrobe space.

0:11:11 > 0:11:13It's about as big as the one I have back home.

0:11:13 > 0:11:16Do you reckon it is the same as back home?

0:11:16 > 0:11:19I think this is bigger than your bedroom back home.

0:11:19 > 0:11:22Might be because that is a double bed in here.

0:11:22 > 0:11:26An en-suite that goes back out into the other side.

0:11:26 > 0:11:27I like this.

0:11:27 > 0:11:34- It is looking good so far.- Look at this.- Wow.- It is a nice house.

0:11:34 > 0:11:36I like it here.

0:11:36 > 0:11:40Andrew is making all the right noises. Leah should be pleased.

0:11:40 > 0:11:41But is she?

0:11:41 > 0:11:44See, I think personally I would prefer to live further afield

0:11:44 > 0:11:46to get more room.

0:11:46 > 0:11:48But then this is handy for the city.

0:11:48 > 0:11:51I just think this house is a little bit too small, personally.

0:11:51 > 0:11:54Compared to what we live in back home, it is far smaller.

0:11:54 > 0:11:57Even moving over, I think it would be...

0:11:57 > 0:12:00It may well be that we would have to make that compromise

0:12:00 > 0:12:04- if we were coming here and finding a smaller property.- And I'm up for

0:12:04 > 0:12:05that, but I'm just...

0:12:05 > 0:12:07Mixed emotions for Leah.

0:12:07 > 0:12:10The house has made a good impression on Andrew but it may be

0:12:10 > 0:12:15the extra space Leah wants is beyond the couple's £280,000 budget.

0:12:15 > 0:12:17What do you think this house is worth?

0:12:17 > 0:12:21I think this house is probably worth about four or 500,000?

0:12:21 > 0:12:24I think this is probably about 350.

0:12:24 > 0:12:27- Do you think so?- Yeah.- Let's see. Right.- OK, Marlee, read it.

0:12:27 > 0:12:28We'll get Marlee to read it.

0:12:28 > 0:12:30Right, Marlee, what is it worth, then?

0:12:30 > 0:12:35369,000.

0:12:37 > 0:12:41- Wow.- I was pretty close, wasn't I? - I was well and truly out, wasn't I?

0:12:41 > 0:12:44I thought for that money you would probably get something a bit bigger

0:12:44 > 0:12:48with a bigger garden, so that has been a bit of an eye-opener for me.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51A disappointing start for Leah.

0:12:51 > 0:12:55At £253,000, this house is under their budget,

0:12:55 > 0:12:57but it is not the right size.

0:12:57 > 0:13:00Perhaps property two can lift her spirits.

0:13:02 > 0:13:04The next house is in Greenwith,

0:13:04 > 0:13:08a quiet middle-class suburb with good facilities for families,

0:13:08 > 0:13:12including a choice of schools and large shopping centres.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14The property is further out from the city centre

0:13:14 > 0:13:17but does have the four bedrooms the couple want

0:13:17 > 0:13:20and a large outdoors area for the children to play in.

0:13:20 > 0:13:23Is this more what Leah had in mind?

0:13:23 > 0:13:28Oh, my gosh, I think this is our house. Beautiful, isn't it? Wow.

0:13:30 > 0:13:33I like this as soon as you walk in. I really like this room.

0:13:35 > 0:13:38I think I've been sold on this house just from the outside.

0:13:38 > 0:13:41So everything else is a bonus. It is like he's home already.

0:13:43 > 0:13:46- This is nice out here, isn't it?- My gosh, this is huge.

0:13:46 > 0:13:48Such a fantastic area for you, Marlee, isn't it?

0:13:48 > 0:13:51Just a good area for the kids. They've already got the trampoline in there.

0:13:51 > 0:13:54I think we're just liking it because of all the good furniture.

0:13:54 > 0:13:59- We will get our own stuff as well, Marlee.- Very practical, Marlee!

0:13:59 > 0:14:02- I really like it. - Shall we just buy it now?- Yes.- OK.

0:14:02 > 0:14:05- We might want to look at the rest of the place first?- No.

0:14:05 > 0:14:07No, OK, just buy it! Come on then.

0:14:07 > 0:14:11Looks like this house is a hit with everyone and there is more to come.

0:14:11 > 0:14:13Mum, this would be good for you.

0:14:13 > 0:14:14SHE GASPS

0:14:14 > 0:14:20- Oh, my gosh.- What's in here? - This is like the working area. Oh.

0:14:20 > 0:14:22Wow, this is really good, isn't it?

0:14:22 > 0:14:24This is like, this is my dream.

0:14:24 > 0:14:27Do you know, I had a good feeling about this area.

0:14:27 > 0:14:28This house is just amazing.

0:14:28 > 0:14:33- It is fantastic and good working space here.- Big en-suite.

0:14:33 > 0:14:35- With a bathroom.- Oh, wow.

0:14:37 > 0:14:42- It's a nice bathroom, isn't it?- Yes, I'm sold.- There's a lot of space.

0:14:42 > 0:14:44- Do you like it?- I do like it, yes.

0:14:44 > 0:14:46You know, it is a house that we need.

0:14:46 > 0:14:48We've got three floors back home in the UK

0:14:48 > 0:14:51and here it's all on one level, but it's plenty of room, isn't it?

0:14:51 > 0:14:55There's enough room. So shall we find out how much it's worth?

0:14:55 > 0:14:59- Oh, yeah, let's do that bit then. - This is the scary part now.

0:15:00 > 0:15:03This house has certainly put a smile back on Leah's face,

0:15:03 > 0:15:06but will the price wipe it off again?

0:15:06 > 0:15:08Do you know, I am so nervous I don't know if I want to find out.

0:15:08 > 0:15:11Because I think if we find out that we can't afford it,

0:15:11 > 0:15:14then the dream is over.

0:15:14 > 0:15:20I probably think it's 536,000.

0:15:20 > 0:15:22That's very precise, yeah.

0:15:22 > 0:15:25I want you to have an open mind that it might not be in our budget,

0:15:25 > 0:15:27but we might be able to get to it.

0:15:27 > 0:15:30Just remember that we still have to sell our own place

0:15:30 > 0:15:34back in the UK which we don't know the value of yet. OK?

0:15:34 > 0:15:36It would all depend on what I could secure

0:15:36 > 0:15:38or what we both could secure work-wise.

0:15:38 > 0:15:41- So, let's both have an open mind. - Let's have an open mind. - OK, darling.

0:15:44 > 0:15:48510,000.

0:15:48 > 0:15:54That's £70,000 over their potential £280,000 budget.

0:15:54 > 0:15:57That doesn't seem too bad to me though, because I'm looking

0:15:57 > 0:16:00at the pounds. £350,000.

0:16:00 > 0:16:03It's £100,000 more than the last house.

0:16:03 > 0:16:07- Yeah, but look at the size...- You're getting a lot more house for it.

0:16:07 > 0:16:11- You're getting a far better setting outside.- So, we are getting it?

0:16:15 > 0:16:19- Erm, no, not at the moment, Marlee. - But there's hope that we might!

0:16:19 > 0:16:22This house offers everything the family are looking for,

0:16:22 > 0:16:26but unless Andrew can find the right job prospects, it could remain

0:16:26 > 0:16:27beyond their reach.

0:16:27 > 0:16:30Last stop of the day is a newly-built estate

0:16:30 > 0:16:32on the outskirts of Adelaide.

0:16:32 > 0:16:34Blake's Crossing is still under construction,

0:16:34 > 0:16:38but once completed will have plenty of facilities for young families.

0:16:38 > 0:16:41The Clanahans are viewing the show house.

0:16:41 > 0:16:44Will it offer the space they want at a price that's right?

0:16:44 > 0:16:47- Wow!- Wow!- This is different!

0:16:47 > 0:16:49That's just the hallway!

0:16:49 > 0:16:53- What would you use this space for? - An office.- An office, yeah, maybe.

0:16:53 > 0:16:56- This is huge.- Good, isn't it? - Just looking at one room.

0:16:58 > 0:17:00- Have you found your room?- Yeah.

0:17:01 > 0:17:05This large family home comes with several open-plan areas,

0:17:05 > 0:17:07a study and five bedrooms -

0:17:07 > 0:17:10plenty of room for overseas guests and there's more.

0:17:10 > 0:17:13A window out to the pool!

0:17:13 > 0:17:15- Wow!- Wow!

0:17:15 > 0:17:17Wow. My goodness.

0:17:17 > 0:17:21- I can see you in that, doing your laps.- Yes.- Yes. Totally cool.

0:17:21 > 0:17:25But Andrew's got his sensible hat on.

0:17:25 > 0:17:28This is a new-build. So nobody's been in here before.

0:17:28 > 0:17:31But then, remember our house was a new-build back in Scotland as well.

0:17:31 > 0:17:35We obviously saw the show house there like we're seeing just now.

0:17:35 > 0:17:38When we move into our own house, we've not got all the decor and

0:17:38 > 0:17:41you've not got the finished garden and there's lots of work to do.

0:17:41 > 0:17:45We'd obviously have to put work into making this place look like this.

0:17:45 > 0:17:48- Being negative.- I'm not being negative. I like this, it's nice.

0:17:48 > 0:17:50This house has got the wow factor,

0:17:50 > 0:17:53but is it within their £280,000 budget?

0:17:53 > 0:17:56I think this one is probably about 600,000.

0:17:56 > 0:18:01- 540,000.- OK, Dad?

0:18:01 > 0:18:05- 510,000.- OK. So, whoa, let's see.

0:18:05 > 0:18:08- What did you reckon it was?- 600.- OK.

0:18:08 > 0:18:10Right, do want to go and have a look then, Marlee?

0:18:13 > 0:18:14ANDREW INHALES SHARPLY

0:18:14 > 0:18:20- 599,000. - I was pretty close.

0:18:20 > 0:18:24That's more than £130,000 over their budget.

0:18:24 > 0:18:29So, that's a lot of money. It's double the house that we've got.

0:18:29 > 0:18:31The price is just beyond us

0:18:31 > 0:18:34and what we could dream of paying at the moment, you know.

0:18:34 > 0:18:38It's just... This house is worth far more than ours back home

0:18:38 > 0:18:40and yet it probably is a similar size to the one back home.

0:18:40 > 0:18:44But if Andrew did find a better paid job down under, the dream home

0:18:44 > 0:18:46could still be achievable.

0:18:46 > 0:18:49A beautiful property and I wish we could afford it.

0:18:49 > 0:18:51But I think I could definitely live here.

0:18:51 > 0:18:56But it's just based on my current salary, that's not going to happen.

0:18:59 > 0:19:02It's been an interesting day on the property hunt.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05The first house was within budget but too small.

0:19:05 > 0:19:09Property number two was everything Leah had hoped for,

0:19:09 > 0:19:12even though it would put a strain on the chequebook.

0:19:12 > 0:19:15And the final house captured everyone's imagination but to

0:19:15 > 0:19:19achieve it, the family would have to increase their income massively.

0:19:21 > 0:19:25So, when it comes to property, has Andrew been sold on Australia?

0:19:25 > 0:19:29So, based on the houses that we've seen today, we are going

0:19:29 > 0:19:30to vote for...

0:19:37 > 0:19:39ALL: The UK!

0:19:43 > 0:19:44I didn't want to go for the UK

0:19:44 > 0:19:48because I really want to come to Australia but just based on the

0:19:48 > 0:19:52houses we've seen today and based on the salary we have back in the UK,

0:19:52 > 0:19:56I don't think we can ideally purchase any of those houses comfortably.

0:19:56 > 0:20:00I was hoping I'd see a house that I could easily afford

0:20:00 > 0:20:03and short of the first one, which was far too small,

0:20:03 > 0:20:06those last two, I couldn't, and that still puts a lot of doubt there.

0:20:06 > 0:20:10But certainly based on what I've seen today, yeah, UK.

0:20:10 > 0:20:13Far from the start Leah was hoping for.

0:20:15 > 0:20:18Her vote for the UK goes against everything she's ever wanted

0:20:18 > 0:20:21and the reality of Adelaide's property prices

0:20:21 > 0:20:25means the couple's work prospects are now vital if Leah is going to

0:20:25 > 0:20:28be in with a chance of keeping her dream alive.

0:20:34 > 0:20:36Leah's desperate to move back to Australia,

0:20:36 > 0:20:40but she knows the ideal home and lifestyle will come at a cost.

0:20:40 > 0:20:42As the main breadwinner,

0:20:42 > 0:20:45finding the right job for Andrew down under will be

0:20:45 > 0:20:49crucial if a move's to work financially and for him, it'll be

0:20:49 > 0:20:52tough to top the job satisfaction he gets

0:20:52 > 0:20:54as a technical manager back home.

0:20:54 > 0:20:59I have been with the same employer for 19 years.

0:20:59 > 0:21:05Very, very loyal employee and once I am there, I like to stay put.

0:21:05 > 0:21:08I like the stability and like to try

0:21:08 > 0:21:11- and do as much as I possibly can for my employer.- He loves his job.

0:21:11 > 0:21:14When I first met him, he was very technical

0:21:14 > 0:21:18and some of our first dates were going out to outages

0:21:18 > 0:21:19and things like that.

0:21:19 > 0:21:22It's not everybody who can say they enjoy their job,

0:21:22 > 0:21:25but I do like my job. And I would really miss that.

0:21:25 > 0:21:29Leah's all too aware how everything depends on Andrew's

0:21:29 > 0:21:31job prospects in Adelaide.

0:21:31 > 0:21:34You know, if I didn't love him so much and we didn't have our life

0:21:34 > 0:21:36together I would have gone a long time ago

0:21:36 > 0:21:39because I am homesick and that's where I want to be,

0:21:39 > 0:21:41but I really believe in him

0:21:41 > 0:21:45and I think if he gets something, that will help.

0:21:45 > 0:21:49With the children looked after by a childminder, the couple

0:21:49 > 0:21:51set off to explore their work opportunities.

0:21:51 > 0:21:54Leah would like to have her own photography business, so meets

0:21:54 > 0:21:56local professional, Miriam.

0:21:58 > 0:22:01Meanwhile, Andrew's off to an IT company to get

0:22:01 > 0:22:04the low-down on a potential job from Nick, a senior manager.

0:22:06 > 0:22:11What I currently do back in the UK, I'm a manager who looks after a team

0:22:11 > 0:22:15of engineers who are responsible for looking after primarily our networks.

0:22:15 > 0:22:19Do you have a similar type of job in this company?

0:22:19 > 0:22:23Actually, yeah, that's very close to what a lot of the guys here do.

0:22:23 > 0:22:25We have a team of network engineers who maintain

0:22:25 > 0:22:27the operation of the network

0:22:27 > 0:22:29and certainly the depth of experience,

0:22:29 > 0:22:32managing a large team, complex products,

0:22:32 > 0:22:35various supplies and technologies

0:22:35 > 0:22:38- is something we would find very appealing.- OK.

0:22:38 > 0:22:43- That's good to hear.- Great news for Andrew. How's Leah getting on?

0:22:43 > 0:22:46So, in Adelaide, what do you think are the opportunities

0:22:46 > 0:22:48for family photography?

0:22:48 > 0:22:52Adelaide is a very friendly, welcoming family town,

0:22:52 > 0:22:55so there's a lot of young families with children here.

0:22:55 > 0:22:58It's a great job to get into because you can really

0:22:58 > 0:23:00control how big or how small you want it to be,

0:23:00 > 0:23:03so really, it's just the perfect job for a mum.

0:23:03 > 0:23:06What would you think you would be charging families

0:23:06 > 0:23:07for an hour session?

0:23:07 > 0:23:10200 for an hour shoot for one person and then

0:23:10 > 0:23:16I charge 30 per extra person so a family of four would be 290.

0:23:16 > 0:23:19The figures sound good and for Leah a life down under

0:23:19 > 0:23:21could be tantalisingly near.

0:23:25 > 0:23:30It's just so close, you know. I can feel it and it's so...

0:23:30 > 0:23:33it's here. But now all the apprehension is coming back,

0:23:33 > 0:23:35because I know it doesn't rely on that.

0:23:35 > 0:23:39Our moving to Australia isn't reliant on me getting a job.

0:23:39 > 0:23:40It's Andrew getting a job.

0:23:40 > 0:23:44So, now I have to wait to see what he's going to find out today.

0:23:44 > 0:23:47Will Andrew deliver the news she's desperate to hear?

0:23:47 > 0:23:50Everything hangs on his job prospects.

0:23:50 > 0:23:53In general, Adelaide doesn't have the

0:23:53 > 0:23:57level of activity in terms of people moving around and hiring,

0:23:57 > 0:24:01relative to other capital cities within Australia.

0:24:01 > 0:24:04I suppose that was one of my fears about coming out to Adelaide.

0:24:04 > 0:24:07But that's relative to other cities within Australia

0:24:07 > 0:24:11and we actually do have a vacancy for a network operations manager

0:24:11 > 0:24:13which may or may not be suitable.

0:24:13 > 0:24:17- We should talk further, I think. - Wow, OK.- How's that?

0:24:18 > 0:24:20Wow!

0:24:21 > 0:24:24Very surprised you're saying that just now. Kind of threw me!

0:24:24 > 0:24:28For a senior management job with your skills and experience,

0:24:28 > 0:24:31as we've gone through I would be comfortable sort of

0:24:31 > 0:24:36- pitching you towards the 110, 120,000 base salary.- Wow. OK.

0:24:36 > 0:24:41Which in Adelaide is more or less enough to comfortably

0:24:41 > 0:24:45support a decent lifestyle... sun-drenched, all that stuff.

0:24:45 > 0:24:48This could be a major turning point for Andrew.

0:24:48 > 0:24:51I don't think I myself sort of ever entertained

0:24:51 > 0:24:55the possibility of us moving to Australia just because I was quite

0:24:55 > 0:24:58settled in my work and regarded it as being a reasonable salary.

0:24:58 > 0:25:01After sort of discovering what I have discovered here in that

0:25:01 > 0:25:05I could be actually on a better salary than I'm on in the UK,

0:25:05 > 0:25:08it makes this whole thing a definite possibility

0:25:08 > 0:25:12and we now have to sort of look at putting everything

0:25:12 > 0:25:15into practice now and seeing what we can do to move out here.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18It's time to put Leah out of her misery.

0:25:18 > 0:25:23It was a very, very interesting afternoon. It went very well for me.

0:25:23 > 0:25:27- Really?- Surprisingly well, yes, to the point where he said

0:25:27 > 0:25:30- we've got a job here for you right now.- What?

0:25:30 > 0:25:33If you would like to apply for it and booked me in for an interview.

0:25:33 > 0:25:35- What?- Yeah.- And what did you say?

0:25:35 > 0:25:38I said, well, I'm very interested, yes!

0:25:39 > 0:25:42- I'm so happy. - You've done well yourself, so...

0:25:42 > 0:25:45- So, salary wise, what... - About 120,000.

0:25:47 > 0:25:50My God. So... Well, what does this mean, though?

0:25:50 > 0:25:53- This is what we wanted to hear. Are you happy about it?- I am happy.

0:25:53 > 0:25:58I mean, obviously, it makes it look now that it's a strong goer

0:25:58 > 0:26:00to moving over here. Yeah.

0:26:00 > 0:26:03I mean at those sort of salaries we could almost afford these houses

0:26:03 > 0:26:05we went to look at yesterday afternoon.

0:26:05 > 0:26:07He seems to think that's achievable

0:26:07 > 0:26:10based on what other people earn here.

0:26:11 > 0:26:13That's all music to Leah's ears,

0:26:13 > 0:26:16but has Andrew heard enough to put his mind at rest?

0:26:16 > 0:26:20Based on our experiences today, we've found our a lot of good

0:26:20 > 0:26:23information that's definitely been useful to moving across here.

0:26:23 > 0:26:27Some big surprises, so we're are going to vote for...

0:26:34 > 0:26:35BOTH: Australia!

0:26:37 > 0:26:39Things are looking up for Leah.

0:26:39 > 0:26:41- Are you really happy?- It's amazing.

0:26:41 > 0:26:43When you look on the Internet or anywhere else

0:26:43 > 0:26:47you never see the jobs. But when you actually go and speak to people

0:26:47 > 0:26:49you suddenly found out that they've got jobs.

0:26:52 > 0:26:56Andrew's first vote for Australia is a huge boost for Leah.

0:26:56 > 0:27:00It looks like he could be finally coming round to the

0:27:00 > 0:27:01possibility of emigrating.

0:27:01 > 0:27:04So, could a taste of the local lifestyle bring Leah yet another

0:27:04 > 0:27:06step closer to home?

0:27:06 > 0:27:10In the UK, the Clanahans share a passion for visiting old

0:27:10 > 0:27:12castles and estates.

0:27:12 > 0:27:14So, down under, they have spent a day roaming the grounds

0:27:14 > 0:27:19of Carrick Hill, one of Adelaide's few surviving period homes.

0:27:19 > 0:27:23It's a chance for the family to reflect on what life could be like.

0:27:26 > 0:27:28The kids have definitely enjoyed today.

0:27:28 > 0:27:31What's good about it, I think, is probably the weather more

0:27:31 > 0:27:34than anything else because, we do something like this back home

0:27:34 > 0:27:37you tend to find that the grass is damp

0:27:37 > 0:27:39because it's probably raining at the time.

0:27:39 > 0:27:41It's not as much fun, obviously. Having the sunshine just makes it.

0:27:41 > 0:27:45Well, yeah, I've seen big changes in Andrew.

0:27:45 > 0:27:47I mean, today I've seen him jump in a sack

0:27:47 > 0:27:51and I've never seen him do anything like that before!

0:27:51 > 0:27:55So, you know, I think it brings out the best in him

0:27:55 > 0:27:57being over here.

0:27:57 > 0:28:00And everyone's had time to think about the future.

0:28:00 > 0:28:04It's been an interesting week for me, emotion wise.

0:28:04 > 0:28:08And certainly after going to the employer yesterday

0:28:08 > 0:28:11and finding out how likely it is that

0:28:11 > 0:28:14I could find employment here - that makes a big difference.

0:28:14 > 0:28:16We have a lonely existence in the UK.

0:28:16 > 0:28:22We have a bit more of a lifestyle environment in Australia.

0:28:22 > 0:28:24I can just see my children flourish already.

0:28:24 > 0:28:27Even today, watching them run around and roll down hills,

0:28:27 > 0:28:30I haven't seen them be that happy for months.

0:28:30 > 0:28:34I think my mum's lonely because she doesn't get anybody to talk to

0:28:34 > 0:28:37when I'm at school and my dad's at work.

0:28:37 > 0:28:41I think it'd be different in Australia because some of her family

0:28:41 > 0:28:44don't work and she'd be able to see them every day.

0:28:44 > 0:28:46So, based on their potential lifestyle,

0:28:46 > 0:28:49will the family vote for the UK or Australia?

0:28:49 > 0:28:53Based on our lovely day here today, we're going to vote for...

0:28:58 > 0:29:00ALL: Australia!

0:29:03 > 0:29:06It's great seeing the kids getting the opportunity to play outside,

0:29:06 > 0:29:09and that's the climate that has driven that.

0:29:09 > 0:29:13It's not like back home we don't get good times outside as well, it's just they tend to be limited.

0:29:13 > 0:29:17Here, I think there will be more of them, and that's the reason why I've gone for this today.

0:29:17 > 0:29:19I love Australia, come rain or shine,

0:29:19 > 0:29:22but I think today has just proved that with the children,

0:29:22 > 0:29:24they have had such a good time,

0:29:24 > 0:29:27so, you know, that is why I chose Australia - for lifestyle.

0:29:34 > 0:29:38A unanimous vote for the Aussie lifestyle is great news for Leah,

0:29:38 > 0:29:41but being able to afford it is another matter.

0:29:41 > 0:29:44If they don't get the right price for their house in the UK, Leah

0:29:44 > 0:29:48could find herself back where she started.

0:29:48 > 0:29:50While her mum looks after the children,

0:29:50 > 0:29:52the couple sit down to find out

0:29:52 > 0:29:55if the two estate agents we have sent round to their Scottish

0:29:55 > 0:29:59home agree with the £250,000 they think it's worth.

0:30:01 > 0:30:04This is a very nice room. Very spacious and light.

0:30:04 > 0:30:08Nice bay window overlooking the green as well. Very nice.

0:30:11 > 0:30:13A pleasant contemporary kitchen. It's well fitted.

0:30:13 > 0:30:15It's got classic Shaker-style units.

0:30:17 > 0:30:22Oh, it's a nice conservatory porch and really quite a pleasant room.

0:30:22 > 0:30:25- Did he say it was a pleasant room? - Pleasant room.- Yeah, that's my favourite room.

0:30:27 > 0:30:31ESTATE AGENT: That's a very nice room. A little girl's room.

0:30:31 > 0:30:34And cupboards as well, so a place for all the toys.

0:30:34 > 0:30:38- Yeah, too many toys, she's got. - Far too many toys!

0:30:38 > 0:30:41It's clearly the main bedroom in the house

0:30:41 > 0:30:44and it justifies the description of a master bedroom.

0:30:44 > 0:30:47This is a very nice family home.

0:30:47 > 0:30:51In today's market, I would value the property at £290,000

0:30:51 > 0:30:54and look at any serious offers over 270,000.

0:30:54 > 0:30:58I would value this property at 275,000.

0:30:58 > 0:31:01For a quick sale, you might have to drop down to 250,000,

0:31:01 > 0:31:04as that's the limit for stamp duty going up to 3%.

0:31:04 > 0:31:08- Yeah.- So, the first guy said 290,000.- He did.

0:31:08 > 0:31:10- Let's sell it for 270.- Yeah.

0:31:10 > 0:31:14The other guy said 270 for 250, so you take an average.

0:31:14 > 0:31:17- I am quite surprised at that.- So are you happy? Is that a good result?

0:31:17 > 0:31:19- That's a good result, yeah. - Oh, good!

0:31:19 > 0:31:21That's positive,

0:31:21 > 0:31:24but now it's time to tackle how the finances would work down under.

0:31:24 > 0:31:28To help them do the figures, we have provided a comparison of costs,

0:31:28 > 0:31:30beginning with the weekly food shop.

0:31:30 > 0:31:31OK, so...

0:31:32 > 0:31:38- ..bacon, UK, £1.64. Here, £4.63.- Four dollars...

0:31:38 > 0:31:41- No, £4.63.- Oh, OK. - It's been converted.- Oh, God!

0:31:41 > 0:31:44Here's something that's cheaper, here. Battered fish.

0:31:44 > 0:31:47- Seem to eat quite a lot of that, because Brodie likes it.- Yeah.

0:31:47 > 0:31:495.96 in the UK, £4.19 here.

0:31:49 > 0:31:54Most things, from what I can see, are definitely more expensive here.

0:31:54 > 0:31:58But if you are on a higher salary, that would compensate for that.

0:31:58 > 0:32:04Baby wipes, UK cost for a pack of three, 1.83.

0:32:04 > 0:32:08- Over here, 5.76.- Yeah, I thought the baby stuff was more expensive. - Big difference.

0:32:10 > 0:32:17- So how does the weekly shop add up? - It's £43.16 more expensive here.

0:32:17 > 0:32:22- OK.- £43 a week won't break the bank, but what about the bigger outgoings?

0:32:22 > 0:32:27House prices in Adelaide were an eye-opener for the Clanahans.

0:32:27 > 0:32:30Basing their calculations on the second property we showed them

0:32:30 > 0:32:33and taking into consideration Andrew's potential

0:32:33 > 0:32:37earnings of 120,000 Australian dollars, they make it work.

0:32:37 > 0:32:43An extra £20,160 a month, a year, sorry, by living in Australia.

0:32:43 > 0:32:49- Extra? By living in Australia, we're going to be getting that, an extra £20,000 a year?- Yeah.

0:32:49 > 0:32:53- That's amazing.- You can get a lot for £20,000, I suppose.

0:32:53 > 0:32:57That figure alone is just based on your salary, so whatever

0:32:57 > 0:33:00I could make and bring to the household would be an extra bonus.

0:33:00 > 0:33:03- That could be our holiday money. - Absolutely.- Could be anything.

0:33:03 > 0:33:05It's a lot of money.

0:33:06 > 0:33:10The figures are good, but are they good enough to convince Andrew?

0:33:10 > 0:33:12It's time to find out.

0:33:12 > 0:33:14After the exercise we have just done

0:33:14 > 0:33:17and the comparison we have done between our finances in the UK

0:33:17 > 0:33:20and finances here, we're going to vote for...

0:33:25 > 0:33:27BOTH: Australia!

0:33:27 > 0:33:32I've been blown away by that figure, and I think we would

0:33:32 > 0:33:36actually have such a fantastic life out here, based on all that.

0:33:36 > 0:33:40We never seem to have expendable income at the end of the month.

0:33:40 > 0:33:45We're always scraping about and it is getting to be quite tough for us,

0:33:45 > 0:33:47so I think we would have a very comfortable lifestyle here.

0:33:47 > 0:33:52And certainly, probably any of these houses we saw the other day, we could probably afford.

0:33:57 > 0:34:02The evening is spent with Leah's family in true Australian style -

0:34:02 > 0:34:05children in the pool, drinks on the patio, and family close by.

0:34:07 > 0:34:10Great times, but while Andrew's financial concerns may have

0:34:10 > 0:34:15been addressed, he knows families are at the heart of their dilemma.

0:34:15 > 0:34:16It's difficult, cos obviously,

0:34:16 > 0:34:19we've both got family on each side of the world.

0:34:19 > 0:34:24If I leave the UK, then I'm leaving my family behind who

0:34:24 > 0:34:27I very much care for and don't want to do that.

0:34:27 > 0:34:31Leah feels the time has come for her to be reunited with her family.

0:34:31 > 0:34:33In the beginning, the first few years,

0:34:33 > 0:34:36I danced around supporting him and, you know, just thinking

0:34:36 > 0:34:40of his feelings 100% and putting my own homesickness in the background.

0:34:40 > 0:34:42I think having children changes that,

0:34:42 > 0:34:46because being pregnant and having no-one around you and...

0:34:46 > 0:34:51going to hospital, having a baby and no-one coming to visit you, it's...

0:34:51 > 0:34:55You know, it's a sad time, and no-one wants that.

0:34:55 > 0:34:57Everyone wants their family around them.

0:34:59 > 0:35:04And Andrew is all too aware of how much rests on his decision.

0:35:04 > 0:35:07If it's the UK, then that is going to be shattering for her.

0:35:07 > 0:35:09And for her mum as well.

0:35:09 > 0:35:13Because her mum wants us desperately to move out here.

0:35:13 > 0:35:17In the same respect, it's going to be the same for the people back in Scotland as well, because if we

0:35:17 > 0:35:21say it's Australia, then it's a toughie with my mum and sister.

0:35:21 > 0:35:23The couple had been avoiding having to

0:35:23 > 0:35:26choose between their families for as long as they have been together.

0:35:26 > 0:35:30I think our relationship for the last few years has been affected by this,

0:35:30 > 0:35:33because he has not wanted to come over here and I have,

0:35:33 > 0:35:35and there's that pulling all the time of, you know,

0:35:35 > 0:35:39he wants to be one place and I want to be the other place.

0:35:39 > 0:35:42So, for us to have come and experienced this

0:35:42 > 0:35:46and worked out what we could and what we could not, to then just be...

0:35:46 > 0:35:50end result, no, we're staying in the UK, I think I'd be really upset.

0:35:58 > 0:36:01The week has seen Andrew overcome his financial and work concerns,

0:36:01 > 0:36:05but he still faces possibly his biggest hurdle.

0:36:05 > 0:36:08The family sit down to watch a DVD of messages from loved ones

0:36:08 > 0:36:12back home, which includes Leah's brother, who lives in the UK.

0:36:12 > 0:36:15While Brodie is looked after by a childminder,

0:36:15 > 0:36:18they have decided Marlee should watch it too.

0:36:18 > 0:36:20Hi, Andrew. Hi, Leah, Marlee and Brodie,

0:36:20 > 0:36:22hope your trip is going really, really well.

0:36:22 > 0:36:25Well, I hope you're having a wonderful time

0:36:25 > 0:36:27and I hope you all like it.

0:36:27 > 0:36:29The best way to describe them -

0:36:29 > 0:36:34they are noisy, hard-working and just great people to be with.

0:36:34 > 0:36:37As a family, they are just an absolutely lovely couple.

0:36:37 > 0:36:40They would do anything for anybody.

0:36:40 > 0:36:42Leah is a very artistic person.

0:36:42 > 0:36:45She has a lot of potential to do a lot of good things.

0:36:45 > 0:36:49She's the sort of person that if I had had a sister,

0:36:49 > 0:36:52I would have wanted her as my sister. You know, she's just real...

0:36:52 > 0:36:55Just a lovely, lovely girl. She is so caring.

0:36:55 > 0:37:00She's shy, she's a great mum, great photographer...

0:37:00 > 0:37:03Um... Good friend.

0:37:03 > 0:37:07Andrew as a brother is just a lovely guy to have as your brother.

0:37:07 > 0:37:11Somebody that, you know, without him in my life would just...

0:37:11 > 0:37:13would just be pretty bad. Yeah.

0:37:14 > 0:37:19Obviously, I'll miss them very much so, and the children growing up.

0:37:19 > 0:37:24As you say, there is still Skype and videos and stuff, you know,

0:37:24 > 0:37:26but it's not the same.

0:37:26 > 0:37:31If they do go away, well, Leah will have her family, I can see that.

0:37:31 > 0:37:33- I've never heard her say that before. - No.

0:37:33 > 0:37:35Just the opportunity to be able to spend Christmas

0:37:35 > 0:37:38and birthdays with them and see my niece and nephew and see them

0:37:38 > 0:37:43grow up, obviously, that's something I would miss greatly.

0:37:43 > 0:37:48Since my dad died eight years ago, you know, Andrew,

0:37:48 > 0:37:51Mum and I, Leah, the four of us just became so, so close.

0:37:51 > 0:37:55I think we've just always been there for each other, no matter what.

0:37:55 > 0:37:57That's...

0:37:57 > 0:38:02When faced with that, it's going to happen,

0:38:02 > 0:38:05that's just going to be so difficult. So upsetting.

0:38:07 > 0:38:12Whatever you decide will be the right thing for you, your family and us, but we'll miss you.

0:38:14 > 0:38:17I know that if you do stay, it's going to be a far better

0:38:17 > 0:38:21life for all of you, and especially for the kids growing up. Erm...

0:38:24 > 0:38:26Yeah.

0:38:29 > 0:38:31I can't say any more.

0:38:45 > 0:38:49- It's just... You feel pulled in both directions.- Mm.

0:38:52 > 0:38:57- Just hard when you see it like that on screen, though.- Yeah, I know.

0:38:57 > 0:39:00I'd really miss my uncle and my aunties.

0:39:05 > 0:39:07I know, it's hard.

0:39:07 > 0:39:09When we leave here every time,

0:39:09 > 0:39:12it's so difficult just trying to say goodbye to Leah's family.

0:39:12 > 0:39:14We're with them for normally a few weeks at a time

0:39:14 > 0:39:17and then they all come to see us off at the airport,

0:39:17 > 0:39:19and it's just, you've got that sort of feeling in your throat.

0:39:19 > 0:39:23It's horrible. You're having to walk through the doors, like,

0:39:23 > 0:39:25"Goodbye until we next see you."

0:39:25 > 0:39:30Um, and that's not my family, that's Leah's family.

0:39:30 > 0:39:33So to say goodbye to my family would be a bad one, yeah.

0:39:36 > 0:39:40It's been an eventful and emotional week for the Clanahans.

0:39:40 > 0:39:44Being back in Adelaide has reinforced Leah's desire to be home.

0:39:44 > 0:39:47It's just so close, you know. I can feel it.

0:39:47 > 0:39:51Spending time with family down under made Marlee realise just how

0:39:51 > 0:39:53homesick Leah is.

0:39:53 > 0:39:58I think my mum's lonely because she doesn't get anybody to talk to

0:39:58 > 0:40:00when I'm at school and my dad is at work.

0:40:00 > 0:40:03But good news on the job front for Andrew.

0:40:03 > 0:40:06- He said we've got a job here for you right now.- What?!

0:40:06 > 0:40:10It means Leah's dream could be tantalisingly close.

0:40:13 > 0:40:16For Leah, the last week has been the best shot

0:40:16 > 0:40:20she has ever had of persuading Andrew to move down under.

0:40:20 > 0:40:24Now she could be on the brink of being reunited with her

0:40:24 > 0:40:25family for good.

0:40:25 > 0:40:29After years of indecision, it's time for Andrew

0:40:29 > 0:40:33and Leah to decide once and for all where their future lies.

0:40:36 > 0:40:38I think about a year ago,

0:40:38 > 0:40:44I hit a crossroad where I just decided I'd had enough in Scotland.

0:40:44 > 0:40:46And it wasn't the people, and it wasn't my home,

0:40:46 > 0:40:49it was just that I didn't want to be there any more.

0:40:49 > 0:40:52I don't know if there's a calling inside you of where you're born

0:40:52 > 0:40:56and you want to return to that place. Whatever it was, I had it.

0:40:56 > 0:41:00So this whole week has, you know, that's going to give me

0:41:00 > 0:41:02what I need to know. Am I coming home or not?

0:41:04 > 0:41:06It's definitely a massive decision.

0:41:06 > 0:41:10If it is a no at the end of the week, Leah will be very heartbroken.

0:41:10 > 0:41:15I think that would take a major toll on our relationship.

0:41:15 > 0:41:18If it's a no for Australia, I'm going to be honest.

0:41:18 > 0:41:21Yeah, it's going to destroy me.

0:41:21 > 0:41:24So how does our relationship move forward from that?

0:41:24 > 0:41:27I do feel pressured. Leah doesn't want to pressure me.

0:41:27 > 0:41:30She definitely does not want to do that, but she can't help doing it.

0:41:30 > 0:41:34Everything relies on the decision that Andrew makes.

0:41:34 > 0:41:36That was a good throw!

0:41:36 > 0:41:40That's a hard thing for me to say, because what's going to happen

0:41:40 > 0:41:41if he says no?

0:41:43 > 0:41:47If I do make the decision to come to Australia, it's going to be

0:41:47 > 0:41:50hard saying goodbye to my family, the loved ones, you know.

0:41:50 > 0:41:53It's people I have known all my life.

0:41:53 > 0:41:55'If we have more children, there's no way

0:41:55 > 0:41:58'we can take our whole family to Australia every year, so I'll then

0:41:58 > 0:42:03'have to look at the reality that I'll be home once every five years.'

0:42:03 > 0:42:07And people are going to die, people are going to get married, there's

0:42:07 > 0:42:11going to be more babies in the family that I am going to miss out on.

0:42:11 > 0:42:14So that's my biggest worry, that...

0:42:14 > 0:42:17that I'm missing everything over here.

0:42:17 > 0:42:21So when it comes to the final vote, can Andrew leave the UK behind?

0:42:21 > 0:42:25Has Leah done enough to convince him to bring her home?

0:42:34 > 0:42:35ALL: Australia!

0:42:37 > 0:42:42- Is that real?- Yeah. - Are you really 100%?- Yeah, I'm happy.

0:42:42 > 0:42:45- Work still is a big risk. - Yeah, the work, I know.

0:42:45 > 0:42:47Everything else seems to have fallen into place.

0:42:47 > 0:42:50- We'll just have to see where the road takes us.- Absolutely.

0:42:50 > 0:42:52But it looks a good road.

0:42:52 > 0:42:53Yay!

0:42:57 > 0:43:00It has been an emotional roller coaster of a week

0:43:00 > 0:43:05for the Clanahans, but it looks like Australia has worked its magic

0:43:05 > 0:43:07and Leah's wish has been granted.

0:43:07 > 0:43:09We hope everything works out for them

0:43:09 > 0:43:11and they have a very happy future.
