0:00:25 > 0:00:27the sudden death of husband and father Paul

0:00:27 > 0:00:29brought all that to an end.

0:00:29 > 0:00:35We lost a big part of our lives, you know, and it changed us all.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38Mum Helene feels guilty that her eldest daughter had to grow up

0:00:38 > 0:00:40so quickly.

0:00:40 > 0:00:42She is a good girl and I don't appreciate her sometimes

0:00:42 > 0:00:45for everything that she does do.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48Now, she's determined to put the tragic past behind them

0:00:48 > 0:00:50with a new life down under.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53What she wants to do is to rebuild our family and try

0:00:53 > 0:00:56and make us all come closer together.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59But, to achieve it, she's going to have to take them away

0:00:59 > 0:01:02from the family who've supported them through the tragedy.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05I don't really think words would be able to describe

0:01:05 > 0:01:06how much I miss them.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09Tiernan every day reminds me more of my daddy.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38Almost a quarter of all UK residents living abroad

0:01:38 > 0:01:39are based in Australia.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42With its sunny climate and outdoor lifestyle,

0:01:42 > 0:01:45it's a magnet for Brits seeking a new life,

0:01:45 > 0:01:48but the grass isn't always greener and leaving everything you know

0:01:48 > 0:01:51half a world away can be a lot harder than you think.

0:01:53 > 0:01:57The Savage family are about to set out on a journey that could

0:01:57 > 0:01:59change their lives for ever.

0:01:59 > 0:02:02They'll be spending the week in Perth,

0:02:02 > 0:02:06discovering everything Australia has to offer before deciding

0:02:06 > 0:02:10once and for all whether to stay in the UK or to make the move for good.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14After two days and 10,000 miles,

0:02:14 > 0:02:17the Savages have finally arrived in Australia

0:02:17 > 0:02:22for the first time and it's hit home just how far away it is.

0:02:22 > 0:02:25We left Belfast at three o'clock on Sunday,

0:02:25 > 0:02:28and it's now...

0:02:28 > 0:02:3120 to two on Tuesday!

0:02:31 > 0:02:35But, despite the long journey, they're excited about the week.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38I'm looking forward to just everything that's ahead.

0:02:38 > 0:02:42- It's just...I can't wait. - I've never been to Australia before.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45I just can't wait to see Perth, to see what it has to offer.

0:02:45 > 0:02:48I have this image in my head that this is a wonderful place,

0:02:48 > 0:02:50and what if it's not?

0:02:50 > 0:02:53Ahead of them is a week of discovery away from everything they know

0:02:53 > 0:02:55on the other side of the world.

0:02:58 > 0:03:00Meet the Savages.

0:03:00 > 0:03:03They are mum Helene, Nicole, who's 17,

0:03:03 > 0:03:05Tiernan, who's 13,

0:03:05 > 0:03:06and Erin aged 7.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09They live in Toomebridge in Northern Ireland.

0:03:10 > 0:03:14Emigrating has been Helene's dream for as long as she can remember.

0:03:14 > 0:03:16I've always been attracted to Australia.

0:03:16 > 0:03:20It's just a beautiful place and I've just always wanted to go.

0:03:20 > 0:03:22That's my dream...

0:03:22 > 0:03:27to be in Australia, nice house, and just enjoying life.

0:03:27 > 0:03:29But her dreams were dashed when her husband, Paul,

0:03:29 > 0:03:33suddenly passed away four years ago.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35We...

0:03:35 > 0:03:40lost a big part of our lives, you know, and it changed us all.

0:03:40 > 0:03:43'I didn't have the support there any more...

0:03:43 > 0:03:44'of their father.'

0:03:44 > 0:03:46With no father figure around,

0:03:46 > 0:03:49Helene looked to daughter Nicole for support.

0:03:49 > 0:03:51She was just 13 when Paul died,

0:03:51 > 0:03:55and soon found herself helping to bring up Tiernan and Erin.

0:03:55 > 0:03:58I knew that I was going to need to start helping, so...

0:03:58 > 0:03:59that's what I done.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02'And I would, like, get them their dinner and help them with

0:04:02 > 0:04:05'their homework and I would bath them and put them to bed.

0:04:05 > 0:04:09'You just have to basically do what Mum usually does.'

0:04:09 > 0:04:13Helene feels Nicole missed out on part of growing up.

0:04:13 > 0:04:15She is a good girl and I don't appreciate her sometimes

0:04:15 > 0:04:17for everything that she does do.

0:04:17 > 0:04:21She never got to do the things that other girls were doing,

0:04:21 > 0:04:24which I feel guilty for, sometimes, now.

0:04:24 > 0:04:28Most of my friends, like, would rely on their mummy and daddy to

0:04:28 > 0:04:33do things for them, but my mummy relies on me to do things for her.

0:04:33 > 0:04:37Mother and daughter now have an unbreakable bond.

0:04:37 > 0:04:39It's made us who we are today...

0:04:39 > 0:04:41and...

0:04:41 > 0:04:43..we're stronger people for it,

0:04:43 > 0:04:45I believe.

0:04:45 > 0:04:47And we're much closer.

0:04:47 > 0:04:51I don't think we could have managed without her stepping up...

0:04:51 > 0:04:54to, you know, the role that she has.

0:04:56 > 0:04:58After everything they've been through,

0:04:58 > 0:05:03Helene believes Australia can help her family get over their loss.

0:05:03 > 0:05:05'I do feel we've been through a lot and, you know,

0:05:05 > 0:05:07'just the change. A change in'

0:05:07 > 0:05:11the environment and the atmosphere just might, you know,

0:05:11 > 0:05:14bring us all out of ourselves a wee bit more.

0:05:16 > 0:05:20And a better life for Tiernan and Erin is at the heart of her plans.

0:05:20 > 0:05:24I think, just things that I want for the children,

0:05:24 > 0:05:26the better lifestyle for them.

0:05:26 > 0:05:31I feel really excited because the beach is really, like, big

0:05:31 > 0:05:35and I would like to throw all the sand at Tiernan.

0:05:35 > 0:05:36SHE LAUGHS

0:05:36 > 0:05:39In Australia, I'd love to see a koala

0:05:39 > 0:05:43- and a kangaroo that boxes people. - Boing, boing, boing!

0:05:43 > 0:05:47Erin's a bit young and she'll just go with the flow.

0:05:47 > 0:05:50- Tiernan knows what he wants. - 'It'd be good to make new friends'

0:05:50 > 0:05:52and go to a whole new school.

0:05:53 > 0:05:56But if she's to give her family the life she dreams of,

0:05:56 > 0:06:00Helene is only too aware of the sacrifices they'll have to make.

0:06:01 > 0:06:03My mum doesn't want us to go.

0:06:03 > 0:06:07She has all these fears and, you know, what-ifs.

0:06:07 > 0:06:10Paul's mum, Catherine, is going to be the one who'll feel it the most,

0:06:10 > 0:06:13with losing Paul

0:06:13 > 0:06:15and then...

0:06:15 > 0:06:18the two grandchildren being the only thing that she has left from him.

0:06:20 > 0:06:24And taking them away from her, I think, will just break her heart.

0:06:27 > 0:06:31The children will also be saying goodbye to their half-sister Cleona,

0:06:31 > 0:06:34and, for Nicole, that's too much to bear.

0:06:34 > 0:06:36It's just leaving them...

0:06:36 > 0:06:37Nanny and Grandad, mostly.

0:06:39 > 0:06:41- I'm... - SHE CRIES

0:06:41 > 0:06:42You're all right.

0:06:45 > 0:06:49Just being the first grandchild, they've always been there.

0:06:49 > 0:06:52You know, you won't have that when you go...

0:06:52 > 0:06:53to the other side of the world.

0:06:55 > 0:06:58Helene is torn between her plans to improve their lives

0:06:58 > 0:07:00and Nicole's reaction.

0:07:00 > 0:07:02My fear is that when we go out there...

0:07:04 > 0:07:09..you know, it is just me and her with the two wee ones. You know...

0:07:09 > 0:07:13If she's having a bad day there's no family member she can turn to.

0:07:13 > 0:07:16Am I doing the right thing, taking her away from that?

0:07:16 > 0:07:18And if she can't bring Nicole around,

0:07:18 > 0:07:21the dream of a better life could be over.

0:07:22 > 0:07:28'I don't want Nicole going and being unhappy.

0:07:28 > 0:07:30'If it's going to work, it has to work for us all.'

0:07:30 > 0:07:34You know, if we come back, we all come back. If we stay, we all stay.

0:07:34 > 0:07:38Despite the support 17-year-old Nicole has been able to offer,

0:07:38 > 0:07:41Helene feels she has to be the mother in this decision.

0:07:43 > 0:07:45I'm a single parent going with three children.

0:07:45 > 0:07:49I have to get it right in my head and know that it's right for all of us...

0:07:49 > 0:07:51before I jump.

0:07:51 > 0:07:55Helene's convinced Australia could give her family a brighter future,

0:07:55 > 0:07:57but, if it's ever to happen,

0:07:57 > 0:08:02she'll have to put her own concerns to rest and get Nicole on board,

0:08:02 > 0:08:06and, with just one week to convince her, the pressure really is on.

0:08:11 > 0:08:12For their week down under,

0:08:12 > 0:08:17the Savages are staying in Joondalup just 26 miles north of Perth.

0:08:17 > 0:08:19The area is named after Lake Joondalup,

0:08:19 > 0:08:23an Aboriginal word meaning, "Place of great whiteness or glistening."

0:08:23 > 0:08:26Home for the week is this four-bedroom town house.

0:08:26 > 0:08:30It's the family's first taste of Aussie style living.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32Cool! Fabulous!

0:08:32 > 0:08:33- Cool!- Oh, I love the TV.

0:08:35 > 0:08:37The picture is weird.

0:08:37 > 0:08:39It doesn't go with the room.

0:08:40 > 0:08:43- Walk-in wardrobe.- That's my bedroom!

0:08:43 > 0:08:45If it's a master bedroom, then I shall be having it.

0:08:45 > 0:08:48- We'll see what the other rooms are like.- We'll do heads or tails.

0:08:48 > 0:08:49Good try, Nicole!

0:08:49 > 0:08:53Pool table! Cool! I'm so excited now.

0:08:53 > 0:08:55I love the kitchen.

0:08:55 > 0:08:58It's a wee bit dated to me, but, sure, I mean, it's...

0:08:58 > 0:09:01- it's not bad. - And as for outdoor space...

0:09:03 > 0:09:05It's warm in this bit, isn't it?

0:09:08 > 0:09:09Is this it?

0:09:11 > 0:09:14OK, not perfect, but Helene's staying positive.

0:09:17 > 0:09:19Well, it doesn't feel real to be here. It's strange.

0:09:19 > 0:09:21I have to keep pinching myself.

0:09:21 > 0:09:24It never really dawned on me until I was travelling...

0:09:24 > 0:09:26the length of time of the flight.

0:09:26 > 0:09:28It still doesn't put me off.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32You know, I have to think about us...

0:09:32 > 0:09:34..in the long-term.

0:09:34 > 0:09:37But Nicole's already thinking of who she's left behind.

0:09:37 > 0:09:39I couldn't picture any of my grannies doing this, or my grandad

0:09:39 > 0:09:43or anybody doing this, because it's just...it's too much.

0:09:43 > 0:09:45It really, really isn't that easy.

0:09:45 > 0:09:47I do think it's fear with Nicole.

0:09:48 > 0:09:54I think Nicole is afraid because it is just me and her that...

0:09:55 > 0:09:58..you know, God forbid something happened to me,

0:09:58 > 0:10:00then she's left in the country...

0:10:00 > 0:10:03with nobody to help her.

0:10:03 > 0:10:07If my mum wanted to come here and I didn't, then...

0:10:07 > 0:10:11it would be hard for both of us, but...

0:10:11 > 0:10:13I wouldn't want to leave my mummy.

0:10:13 > 0:10:17This'll be the decider, whether we stay or we go.

0:10:17 > 0:10:21Um, and, either way, it'll be out of our system.

0:10:26 > 0:10:28Back in the UK, the Savages live in this

0:10:28 > 0:10:31four-bedroom bungalow in County Antrim.

0:10:32 > 0:10:35I'm in this house ten years come this December.

0:10:35 > 0:10:39I've put a lot of money into it, um, you know...

0:10:39 > 0:10:41refurbished all the rooms.

0:10:41 > 0:10:45Um...I like my house here and it's a lovely area, you know,

0:10:45 > 0:10:47it's great for young families.

0:10:47 > 0:10:49We all have our own bedrooms.

0:10:49 > 0:10:53Um, you know, four-bedroom house, kids all have their own rooms.

0:10:54 > 0:10:59I would like the same in Australia. Maybe an extra for visitors to come.

0:10:59 > 0:11:01I would love...

0:11:01 > 0:11:06a lovely open-plan kitchen-living area. A pool!

0:11:07 > 0:11:11And to be beside the coast, I want the beach and the pool.

0:11:11 > 0:11:14Yeah! Maybe a nice, wee, small lounge,

0:11:14 > 0:11:17um, with the TV and stuff in it that's separate from

0:11:17 > 0:11:21the big living area... barbecue area...

0:11:21 > 0:11:24Um, I'm being greedy. I want the whole lot.

0:11:26 > 0:11:30If the family do make the move, Helene plans to rent initially,

0:11:30 > 0:11:33so, to show them what's available on the Perth rental market,

0:11:33 > 0:11:36we've chosen three different properties based on what

0:11:36 > 0:11:38they want and what they can afford.

0:11:38 > 0:11:42Only after seeing each house will they discover how much it costs.

0:11:42 > 0:11:47The search begins in the suburb of Alkimos, 26 miles north of Perth.

0:11:47 > 0:11:49This area is still under construction,

0:11:49 > 0:11:53but, once completed, will have all the facilities young families need.

0:11:53 > 0:11:56It's also close to the beach, which should please Helene.

0:11:58 > 0:12:01The Savages are viewing this four-bedroom former show home.

0:12:01 > 0:12:03Will it meet their expectations?

0:12:04 > 0:12:06Oh, wow. Look.

0:12:06 > 0:12:09- Oh, this is lovely.- It is nice.

0:12:09 > 0:12:12- One bathroom.- There's a shower.

0:12:12 > 0:12:16- That's amazing.- That's just what I want, the big shower area!

0:12:16 > 0:12:19Very modern living, just what I would like.

0:12:20 > 0:12:22Let's go and see another room.

0:12:24 > 0:12:26Oh, wow!

0:12:26 > 0:12:27- (Wow.)- Oh, cool.

0:12:27 > 0:12:29This is it.

0:12:29 > 0:12:33It's all cosy and just the family space for to chill out

0:12:33 > 0:12:36- and have family time.- I just love the colours, it's lovely.

0:12:36 > 0:12:39I'm just speechless. I don't know what to say. It's beautiful.

0:12:39 > 0:12:41So far, so good.

0:12:42 > 0:12:46- Yeah, this is definitely my typical room.- Oh, is it?- Yeah.

0:12:49 > 0:12:52- Now, this is my type of room. - THEY LAUGH

0:12:53 > 0:12:56This is what I want, big time. I really have...

0:12:56 > 0:12:58This is what I've looked for

0:12:58 > 0:13:01- in an Australian home.- Would this make you come here, then?

0:13:01 > 0:13:02- Yeah.- Yeah?- Mm-hm.

0:13:02 > 0:13:04Cos you were a bit iffy.

0:13:04 > 0:13:06Well, I still am, but...

0:13:06 > 0:13:09- Now, you're coming round a bit. - A bit, yeah.

0:13:09 > 0:13:10Not a bad start.

0:13:10 > 0:13:13The modern design of this house is certainly getting

0:13:13 > 0:13:14the thumbs up from Nicole.

0:13:16 > 0:13:17- Wow!- Wow!- Oh, wow!

0:13:18 > 0:13:23- This is lovely. - Oh, my God, when can we move in?!

0:13:23 > 0:13:26- I know, it's just perfect. - This is beautiful.

0:13:28 > 0:13:30There's just so much to take in.

0:13:30 > 0:13:35You could picture yourself standing over here and cooking breakfast.

0:13:35 > 0:13:38You cooking and me sitting up here, having a chat

0:13:38 > 0:13:40and the kids just playing and...

0:13:40 > 0:13:44It's just so family friendly, like, everything's just...perfect

0:13:44 > 0:13:45and I just...

0:13:45 > 0:13:48I just want to live here right now!

0:13:48 > 0:13:53That's music to Helene's ears, but, there's something missing.

0:13:53 > 0:13:55This ticks all the boxes for me.

0:13:56 > 0:13:58- Except for one.- Except for one -

0:13:58 > 0:14:00I can't see no swimming pool!

0:14:01 > 0:14:04And Helene's not the only one disappointed.

0:14:04 > 0:14:06This is lovely.

0:14:06 > 0:14:10I'm not happy because there's no pool.

0:14:10 > 0:14:11HELENE CHUCKLES

0:14:11 > 0:14:14So, we want a nice house like this and a swimming pool?

0:14:16 > 0:14:17Yeah.

0:14:17 > 0:14:19And a barbecue.

0:14:19 > 0:14:22- We're not asking much, are we?- No.- No.

0:14:22 > 0:14:25This house has everything but a pool,

0:14:25 > 0:14:30but could the family afford it on their £1,200 a month rental budget?

0:14:30 > 0:14:32Let's find out how much this house is.

0:14:34 > 0:14:35Oh!

0:14:35 > 0:14:40£1,220 a month!

0:14:41 > 0:14:44It's a new-build, I suppose, you're paying for what you get.

0:14:44 > 0:14:48As much as we could afford it, probably just...

0:14:48 > 0:14:52we said four bedrooms, maybe five, and a pool.

0:14:53 > 0:14:57But, if that's four bedrooms without a pool....

0:14:57 > 0:15:00you know, I think, maybe, we would need to...

0:15:02 > 0:15:04..reconsider what we're looking.

0:15:04 > 0:15:08Not quite the start Helene was hoping for.

0:15:08 > 0:15:11Property number two is in the well-established suburb of Butler,

0:15:11 > 0:15:1425 miles north of Perth.

0:15:14 > 0:15:17It's a family friendly area with plenty of facilities

0:15:17 > 0:15:21right on the doorstep, offering the community feel Helene's looking for.

0:15:23 > 0:15:24OK.

0:15:24 > 0:15:25THEY GASP

0:15:25 > 0:15:27- Oh, wow!- This is lovely.

0:15:29 > 0:15:31- Hmm.- This is gorgeous.

0:15:31 > 0:15:36I think it's lovely, so it is, the paintings and all.

0:15:36 > 0:15:39- Could you picture yourself living here?- I could.

0:15:39 > 0:15:40Tiernan's sold.

0:15:40 > 0:15:43You know, I was sitting there watching TV or you playing

0:15:43 > 0:15:45out in the garden...

0:15:45 > 0:15:46..standing cooking...

0:15:46 > 0:15:49I just like...I just love the open-plan idea,

0:15:49 > 0:15:53I can keep an eye on yous when yous are running about.

0:15:53 > 0:15:56But Nicole's just not feeling it.

0:15:56 > 0:15:58I know it's very open-plan and all, but...

0:16:00 > 0:16:02..I don't know, it's just not me.

0:16:02 > 0:16:05- Do you not like it? - It just doesn't feel homely.

0:16:05 > 0:16:08Perhaps the bedrooms can improve things.

0:16:08 > 0:16:10- Oh, this is lovely. - Look at this, Mummy.

0:16:10 > 0:16:13Look, a walk-in wardrobe.

0:16:13 > 0:16:14What do you think of that, Erin?

0:16:14 > 0:16:16This is not my room!

0:16:16 > 0:16:19Looks like Erin's hard to please, too!

0:16:20 > 0:16:23- Hey, Erin's room.- This is my room.

0:16:23 > 0:16:25Yay, it's about time she said that.

0:16:25 > 0:16:28This is my room, definitely.

0:16:28 > 0:16:31But, once again, Helene's spotted a problem.

0:16:32 > 0:16:35- There's only three. - There's only three bedrooms.

0:16:35 > 0:16:36Oh! Ah!

0:16:36 > 0:16:39- Hmm.- A master and two kids'.

0:16:39 > 0:16:41It's a lovely house, like, it's really...just really

0:16:41 > 0:16:44family friendly and all, but there's not enough bedrooms.

0:16:44 > 0:16:47There is too much of an age gap between each of yous to share a room.

0:16:47 > 0:16:51- I know.- I'm a bit disappointed, actually...

0:16:51 > 0:16:54because it's a very nice property.

0:16:54 > 0:16:58Though it's only got three bedrooms, the area's perfect for the Savages.

0:16:58 > 0:17:00Could the price win them round?

0:17:02 > 0:17:03It's a beautiful house.

0:17:04 > 0:17:07I like it. I love the space, the light...

0:17:09 > 0:17:10..you know, it's well-presented.

0:17:12 > 0:17:14The downside is, it's only three bedrooms.

0:17:14 > 0:17:17Erin, do you want to turn the card over and let us know if we can...

0:17:17 > 0:17:19- afford this house?- OK.

0:17:21 > 0:17:23Oh, dear.

0:17:23 > 0:17:26That's almost £200 over budget.

0:17:26 > 0:17:29I'm not impressed with that price for a three-bedroom house.

0:17:29 > 0:17:32- No way.- That's far too much. - Well, I think it would be that

0:17:32 > 0:17:36price because of the location, it's right beside the park and...

0:17:36 > 0:17:39you know, just the design of it and all.

0:17:39 > 0:17:42I agree with you, you're paying for being close to local amenities

0:17:42 > 0:17:46and, um, you know, I suppose that's what you're going to get,

0:17:46 > 0:17:48the further out you go, the cheaper it'll become.

0:17:48 > 0:17:51I wouldn't pay that for this, I genuinely wouldn't.

0:17:53 > 0:17:56- It's hard. We want it all...- Yeah. - ..but we want it for nothing.

0:17:57 > 0:17:59With two properties down,

0:17:59 > 0:18:03there's just one chance left to find the perfect home.

0:18:03 > 0:18:06The final house is also in the Butler area,

0:18:06 > 0:18:09with four bedrooms, it could deliver the full package.

0:18:11 > 0:18:15- It's lovely. It's a big space, it's...- I love these chairs.

0:18:15 > 0:18:16It's bright.

0:18:18 > 0:18:19Nice.

0:18:20 > 0:18:23- Another walk-in wardrobe.- Ah!

0:18:23 > 0:18:25- This is lovely.- A walk-in wardrobe.

0:18:27 > 0:18:29Another lovely kitchen.

0:18:31 > 0:18:33- I like it.- It's gorgeous.

0:18:33 > 0:18:37I still love that fact that you can stand here and look out.

0:18:37 > 0:18:41And Nicole's changed her mind about Aussie style living.

0:18:41 > 0:18:44I know I said I didn't like anything that was all just the one...

0:18:44 > 0:18:47- Open-plan.- ..open-plan, but I do like this.

0:18:47 > 0:18:49Yeah! Let's move in.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52- Right now.- Yeah.

0:18:52 > 0:18:54But it feels a bit like home from home to me,

0:18:54 > 0:18:56it's just what I pictured.

0:18:57 > 0:19:02- This is my room! Look at the baby goldfish!- So cute!

0:19:02 > 0:19:05- This is nice. - This is definitely my room.

0:19:05 > 0:19:09- It's lovely. This is a pretty house. I really like this house.- So do I.

0:19:09 > 0:19:11- Cool lamp.- Mm-hm.- Cool lamp.

0:19:11 > 0:19:15- It just feels like home. - Yeah, I could live here.- Same.

0:19:15 > 0:19:18This house seems to be the perfect fit

0:19:18 > 0:19:20and there's another reason it could make a splash.

0:19:20 > 0:19:22What about the view out that window, Erin?

0:19:22 > 0:19:24ERIN GASPS

0:19:24 > 0:19:25Would that view be OK for you?

0:19:25 > 0:19:28- Yeah, definitely.- Are you sure?

0:19:28 > 0:19:32At last, this property seems to have everything the family have

0:19:32 > 0:19:33been looking for.

0:19:33 > 0:19:38This is what it was all about coming here - four bedrooms, a pool...

0:19:38 > 0:19:40I want to go in right now.

0:19:40 > 0:19:44It even seems to be working some magic on Nicole.

0:19:44 > 0:19:47I know I was against it, but now that I've seen this house,

0:19:47 > 0:19:48I just want to move right now.

0:19:50 > 0:19:53The whole family can imagine this house as their home,

0:19:53 > 0:19:56but will it be within their £1,200 a month budget?

0:19:56 > 0:19:59I think this is the closest that we're going to get to

0:19:59 > 0:20:01a property that we wanted.

0:20:01 > 0:20:03- Are we ready? ALL:- Yes!

0:20:03 > 0:20:07A house that ticks all the boxes for me anyway.

0:20:07 > 0:20:10- And me.- One, two, three.

0:20:10 > 0:20:12Oh!

0:20:12 > 0:20:15That's £350 over budget.

0:20:15 > 0:20:17SHE LAUGHS Speechless!

0:20:17 > 0:20:20It's worth it, though. It's a bit over budget.

0:20:21 > 0:20:26For me, it's not what I had in mind, but I would consider it.

0:20:26 > 0:20:28Can we afford it?

0:20:31 > 0:20:32As it...

0:20:32 > 0:20:36At the minute, looking at it, I don't know.

0:20:36 > 0:20:37That's my honest answer.

0:20:37 > 0:20:40I would like to think we could, because this is what I would like.

0:20:41 > 0:20:43That's a bit of a setback,

0:20:43 > 0:20:47but Helene's not giving up on the dream home just yet.

0:20:47 > 0:20:51The first house was achievable, but no pool meant no deal.

0:20:53 > 0:20:55Property number two was a hit for Helene,

0:20:55 > 0:20:58but the missing fourth bedroom let it down.

0:20:58 > 0:21:01The final house was everything the Savages dreamed of,

0:21:01 > 0:21:04but the price tag could put it beyond their reach.

0:21:04 > 0:21:08So, when it comes to properties, will the family choose home or away?

0:21:08 > 0:21:12Based on our experience of looking at properties in Australia,

0:21:12 > 0:21:14we are voting for...

0:21:21 > 0:21:23Australia.

0:21:23 > 0:21:25Unsure. What did you pick?

0:21:25 > 0:21:26UK. What did you pick?

0:21:26 > 0:21:29Australia and Erin picked Australia.

0:21:29 > 0:21:31I picked...

0:21:31 > 0:21:34not sure, because the properties that we've looked at are all beautiful,

0:21:34 > 0:21:40I like them all, but I'm a bit unsure whether I really want...

0:21:40 > 0:21:41the expense.

0:21:46 > 0:21:50After years of dreaming of a better life for her family in Australia,

0:21:50 > 0:21:53today's house hunting has been a disappointment for Helene.

0:21:53 > 0:21:57Perth's property prices have been a wake-up call and if she's going

0:21:57 > 0:22:01to secure her ideal home, everything rests on her work opportunities.

0:22:02 > 0:22:06Back in the UK, Helene works as a nurse, caring for the elderly.

0:22:06 > 0:22:08It's a job she loves.

0:22:08 > 0:22:13I have been working here in this care setting for the past two years.

0:22:14 > 0:22:17I love the residents and I have great friends here

0:22:17 > 0:22:19and the staff are lovely.

0:22:19 > 0:22:21If I choose to move to Australia,

0:22:21 > 0:22:24I would want a job similar to what I'm doing.

0:22:25 > 0:22:29We've arranged for Helene to spend time at a local care home in Perth.

0:22:29 > 0:22:32- Welcome to Bethanie Beachside. - Hello.- Lovely to meet you.

0:22:32 > 0:22:34- Thank you.- My name's Michelle. - I'm Helene.

0:22:34 > 0:22:37I'm one of the regional managers for Bethanie.

0:22:37 > 0:22:39- I'm going to show you around. - OK.- Have a look.

0:22:39 > 0:22:41This is an area where the families, when they visit,

0:22:41 > 0:22:44they can have a look and see what's been happening this week.

0:22:44 > 0:22:47We've got Australia Day, which is a significant day for us,

0:22:47 > 0:22:49you know, we really love our Australia Day barbecue.

0:22:49 > 0:22:51Our residents and volunteers.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54Then, over here, we've got our children coming in from

0:22:54 > 0:22:56the local schools, doing a nativity programme.

0:22:56 > 0:22:59- A hairdresser.- OK.

0:22:59 > 0:23:01Uh, doctor's visiting room.

0:23:03 > 0:23:054 and 7 - 47.

0:23:05 > 0:23:08They're residents calling out the numbers, not staff.

0:23:08 > 0:23:11OK. He's a sprightly resident!

0:23:11 > 0:23:13Well, you have to make the most of the years that you can still

0:23:13 > 0:23:17- do things. Our newsletter is done by our residents.- Oh, very good.

0:23:17 > 0:23:19- That's great.- Cos it's their news.

0:23:19 > 0:23:22It's an amazing facility, you know, that it offers so much.

0:23:22 > 0:23:25And happy staff is really important too. Happy staff...

0:23:25 > 0:23:28- happy residents.- Happy residents. Yeah.

0:23:28 > 0:23:31- APPLAUSE - OK.

0:23:31 > 0:23:35Across town, Nicole's checking out her options.

0:23:35 > 0:23:37In the UK, she's studying to be a hairdresser

0:23:37 > 0:23:39and she's keen to find out

0:23:39 > 0:23:42if she could continue her training should she move to Australia.

0:23:42 > 0:23:43I would really love to be a hairdresser

0:23:43 > 0:23:46if we moved out here because it would just make me

0:23:46 > 0:23:49feel more used to people and get more used to the feeling

0:23:49 > 0:23:51and the lifestyle of Australia.

0:23:51 > 0:23:54While Tiernan and Erin are looked after by a child minder,

0:23:54 > 0:23:57Nicole visits a local college where lecturer Dawn shows

0:23:57 > 0:23:59her around the hairdressing facility.

0:23:59 > 0:24:03So, it's a simulated working salon, so we actually take bookings

0:24:03 > 0:24:06for clients through for cutting, colouring, perming.

0:24:08 > 0:24:10This is our hairdresser department.

0:24:10 > 0:24:13The students are actually working towards a Cert III in hairdressing.

0:24:13 > 0:24:17We do 680 hours here for the total course for a Cert III in

0:24:17 > 0:24:22hairdressing and in the UK, probably similar, about 560 hours in total.

0:24:22 > 0:24:24The units are very, very similar.

0:24:24 > 0:24:27I was expecting it to be a wee bit different, but, thank God it's not,

0:24:27 > 0:24:30- it's just the same as back home. - No, exactly the same. Cut hair,

0:24:30 > 0:24:33colour hair, perm hair, all over the world, exactly the same.

0:24:33 > 0:24:35That's just what Nicole wanted to hear.

0:24:35 > 0:24:38So, Polly, what are you actually doing today with Sheryl?

0:24:38 > 0:24:40I'm basically refreshing the haircut that Sheryl has

0:24:40 > 0:24:44put in through before, which is layers and I'm putting a nice solid

0:24:44 > 0:24:47edge to it as well, just to make sure that her hair looks nice and thick.

0:24:47 > 0:24:50Student Polly used to study hairdressing in Ireland.

0:24:50 > 0:24:53I have to say, I enjoy the school in Australia better than

0:24:53 > 0:24:54I did the one in Ireland.

0:24:54 > 0:24:58So, yeah, I just think the people are actually a little bit more attentive.

0:24:58 > 0:25:01- Yeah.- You kind of get a little bit more

0:25:01 > 0:25:04one-on-one with your, you know, teachers.

0:25:04 > 0:25:07And meeting her is a chance for Nicole to get some answers

0:25:07 > 0:25:09about her potential future.

0:25:09 > 0:25:13Did you find it a lot more difficult when you moved here from Ireland?

0:25:13 > 0:25:15It wasn't actually too bad,

0:25:15 > 0:25:18I mean, the immigration process was fairly straightforward.

0:25:18 > 0:25:20I started my course and became a student,

0:25:20 > 0:25:24which basically gives me the right to work 20 hours every week.

0:25:24 > 0:25:26Would you recommend the course to me?

0:25:26 > 0:25:28It's definitely more hands-on, which is great,

0:25:28 > 0:25:31so you definitely can feel that you actually are gaining

0:25:31 > 0:25:33the knowledge and you become more and more confident.

0:25:33 > 0:25:37The staff in campus are lovely and the students are really nice as well.

0:25:37 > 0:25:40It's definitely challenging at times, it can be quite busy,

0:25:40 > 0:25:42but I think that's a positive more than a negative.

0:25:42 > 0:25:47Hearing how easy the transition can be is reassuring for Nicole,

0:25:47 > 0:25:51but back at the care home, Helene's got some questions of her own.

0:25:51 > 0:25:54Going round this facility today, it's great, you know.

0:25:54 > 0:25:57Would there be, you know, job opportunities here for me?

0:25:57 > 0:25:59Most definitely, I mean,

0:25:59 > 0:26:04the Bethanie Group really welcomes UK and American nurses.

0:26:04 > 0:26:07You have to apply through the Nursing Registration.

0:26:07 > 0:26:10In this facility, I've probably sponsored about four nurses,

0:26:10 > 0:26:11three from the UK.

0:26:11 > 0:26:14But I can actually put you in touch with an HR advisor...

0:26:14 > 0:26:16- OK.- ..who can actually help you.

0:26:16 > 0:26:17As a full-time clinical nurse,

0:26:17 > 0:26:20what type of salary could I expect here in Australia?

0:26:20 > 0:26:22Between 75,000 and 80,000,

0:26:22 > 0:26:25- which would be about £56,000 sterling today.- No way!

0:26:25 > 0:26:28I don't know what it would be tomorrow cos of the changing pound.

0:26:28 > 0:26:30SHE GASPS Oh, wow.

0:26:30 > 0:26:34- That is a big increase in salary, definitely.- I guess it's full-time.

0:26:34 > 0:26:36You know, in our industry, you know,

0:26:36 > 0:26:39full-time can be between 8 and 5 or 7 and 3.

0:26:39 > 0:26:44- OK.- Yeah.- That's great news and that, you know...- Yes.

0:26:44 > 0:26:48..is a lot to take in and a lot to think about.

0:26:48 > 0:26:52As a single mum, Helene's ability to earn enough to provide for

0:26:52 > 0:26:56- her family has always been a major concern.- I'm surprised.

0:26:56 > 0:26:59I work part-time as a nurse in the UK and, if I was full-time,

0:26:59 > 0:27:03I could earn between £19,000 and £21,000.

0:27:03 > 0:27:07Um, as a full-time nurse working here, I could earn, um,

0:27:07 > 0:27:10within the region of £55,000 sterling.

0:27:10 > 0:27:12That's life-changing in job terms, you know.

0:27:12 > 0:27:15It's given me a lot to think about. Um...

0:27:15 > 0:27:20Can I do this by myself? And, you know, now I'm thinking I can.

0:27:20 > 0:27:22It's a big step in the right direction

0:27:22 > 0:27:25and could bring Helene's dream home within reach.

0:27:26 > 0:27:29Will the news be as good for Nicole?

0:27:29 > 0:27:33If I came here, would I have to start from the very, very beginning?

0:27:33 > 0:27:36If you've got what we call comparison units,

0:27:36 > 0:27:40we can transfer them over, but to be able to do that,

0:27:40 > 0:27:43you would actually, um, have to join the course.

0:27:43 > 0:27:45We would evaluate your skills.

0:27:45 > 0:27:50What would the salary be for me as, what I would say, a trainee?

0:27:50 > 0:27:53For the first year, you would expect in excess of 300 per week

0:27:53 > 0:27:56and that can range right the way through to when you finish

0:27:56 > 0:27:59as the senior stylist, and it can be anything from 700 up

0:27:59 > 0:28:02to about 800, depending on the salon.

0:28:02 > 0:28:06I'm only earning £50 a week.

0:28:06 > 0:28:10So, here, it's a lot more.

0:28:10 > 0:28:12'Both Nicole and Helene would substantially increase

0:28:12 > 0:28:16'their earning power, if they made the move down under.'

0:28:16 > 0:28:19Based on our work experience today in Australia, we are voting for...

0:28:24 > 0:28:26BOTH: Australia!

0:28:31 > 0:28:34The money Helene and Nicole could earn in Australia has

0:28:34 > 0:28:38shown them both a potential upside to life down under,

0:28:38 > 0:28:41but while Nicole appears to be coming round to the idea of

0:28:41 > 0:28:45the move, Helene knows she still has her work cut out to convince her.

0:28:48 > 0:28:51Part of Helene's dream is to spend more time together

0:28:51 > 0:28:54away from the British weather, so, today, the Savages

0:28:54 > 0:28:57are checking out the facilities on offer in the local Perth area.

0:28:59 > 0:29:02It's a far cry from the dark, dank skies of home.

0:29:03 > 0:29:07Standing here in Australia in this beautiful sunshine,

0:29:07 > 0:29:11no expense, a beach, a towel, a few bottles of water,

0:29:11 > 0:29:15some sandwiches, I mean, what more could you ask for?

0:29:16 > 0:29:18It's a wishing well, Erin.

0:29:18 > 0:29:21Back home, it's opening your blinds and all you see is grey skies

0:29:21 > 0:29:24and you're like, "Should we go here? Should we go there?"

0:29:24 > 0:29:26When you can't go anywhere, cos you depend on the weather.

0:29:26 > 0:29:30And Nicole's noticed a change for the better in Mum.

0:29:30 > 0:29:33'She seems more happy and just more herself than

0:29:33 > 0:29:35'back home.'

0:29:35 > 0:29:36The kids are all in the house playing,

0:29:36 > 0:29:39I'm trying to do things round them. I'm getting stressed out.

0:29:39 > 0:29:41So, when we're over here and we're all out,

0:29:41 > 0:29:44I am less stressed over silly things.

0:29:46 > 0:29:47BOTH: Loser buys ice cream.

0:29:48 > 0:29:51Helene's delighted to see Nicole let her hair down.

0:29:53 > 0:29:56Nicole is a mature 17-year-old, she's had to grow up pretty quickly,

0:29:56 > 0:29:59but, you know, to come out and have days like this,

0:29:59 > 0:30:04it's nice to let her...get that childish side out of herself.

0:30:06 > 0:30:10The sunshine's even had an effect on Tiernan and Erin's relationship.

0:30:10 > 0:30:13Cos there's that bit of an age difference, the two of them

0:30:13 > 0:30:15don't really get on, but when they're out

0:30:15 > 0:30:17and about like today, I have seen the two of them

0:30:17 > 0:30:20have got on so well and I'm just really pleased to see that.

0:30:24 > 0:30:26- Have yous all had a fun day? ALL:- Uh-huh.

0:30:27 > 0:30:29This is the way I want it to be, you know,

0:30:29 > 0:30:32I bring up three children, I want them to grow up happy.

0:30:32 > 0:30:37'They've been great today and I hope this is the beginning of new things.'

0:30:37 > 0:30:41Based on our lifestyle experiences today, we are voting for...

0:30:49 > 0:30:50ALL: Australia!

0:30:51 > 0:30:54Yay! I think that was pretty obvious today, was it?

0:30:54 > 0:30:56- ALL:- Yeah.

0:30:56 > 0:31:00- And we want fun days like this a lot of the time, don't we?- Yeah!

0:31:05 > 0:31:08Life in Australia is beginning to look very promising

0:31:08 > 0:31:12for the Savages, but now they have to establish if they can afford it.

0:31:12 > 0:31:16Helene plans to sell the family home in the UK to help fund

0:31:16 > 0:31:17a move down under.

0:31:18 > 0:31:21She thinks it's worth around £130,000,

0:31:21 > 0:31:25so we sent round two estate agents to give an up-to-date valuation.

0:31:31 > 0:31:32THEY LAUGH

0:31:34 > 0:31:38This is a typical semidetached property.

0:31:38 > 0:31:41It has been up probably about 20 years

0:31:41 > 0:31:43and maybe needs a little bit of a...

0:31:43 > 0:31:45- modernisation.- What?!

0:31:47 > 0:31:52This is a nice, inviting front room with an open fire,

0:31:52 > 0:31:55plenty of room for furniture in here and a nice bay window.

0:31:59 > 0:32:03This is a really modern kitchen with a range of appliances.

0:32:03 > 0:32:06The only negative is it's quite small for dining.

0:32:06 > 0:32:08What?!

0:32:09 > 0:32:13Ah, nicely enclosed garden here, with a large decking area,

0:32:13 > 0:32:15south facing aspect.

0:32:15 > 0:32:16Very nice.

0:32:20 > 0:32:23This a very nice children's bedroom, it's a nice feature wall,

0:32:23 > 0:32:26and we also have fitted wardrobes here.

0:32:26 > 0:32:27Miss your wee room?

0:32:31 > 0:32:33Yeah, typical bathroom for this type of property.

0:32:33 > 0:32:36White suite, which is always very popular, doesn't date.

0:32:36 > 0:32:39This is a really good size bedroom.

0:32:39 > 0:32:42Um, I like the range of fitted units here.

0:32:42 > 0:32:45The one thing I will say, because it's downstairs, it could actually

0:32:45 > 0:32:49be used as a separate dining room because the kitchen is quite small.

0:32:49 > 0:32:50No!

0:32:50 > 0:32:53That's my room!

0:32:53 > 0:32:55- TIERNAN GASPS - 'Oh!'

0:32:57 > 0:32:59'Oh, God!'

0:32:59 > 0:33:02Yes, here we have upstairs now, a good...

0:33:02 > 0:33:04double room.

0:33:04 > 0:33:07This is a spacious master bedroom, um, I like the, uh,

0:33:07 > 0:33:10VELUX window letting in plenty of daylight.

0:33:10 > 0:33:13I also like the fact that they've made the most of the space

0:33:13 > 0:33:15again, with these built-in units.

0:33:21 > 0:33:23Oh, look at all our photographs.

0:33:23 > 0:33:26Given the current market conditions here in Northern Ireland,

0:33:26 > 0:33:30- I would value this property in the region of £100,000.- What?!

0:33:30 > 0:33:32Um, if they required a quick sale,

0:33:32 > 0:33:36I'd be expecting offers around £90,000 for this property.

0:33:36 > 0:33:38- No way, no.- No way, mister.

0:33:38 > 0:33:40In the current market conditions,

0:33:40 > 0:33:43I would value this property at £115,000.

0:33:43 > 0:33:45For a quick sale, um,

0:33:45 > 0:33:48they would need to be marketing at around 95,000.

0:33:50 > 0:33:53I'm not happy. I'm actually quite shocked at that.

0:33:53 > 0:33:57How much did you think the house would be worth?

0:33:57 > 0:33:58I was expecting at least 130.

0:33:59 > 0:34:02Does that mean that we can't move here, then?

0:34:02 > 0:34:05I don't know, son. Um, I think it'd be something that...

0:34:07 > 0:34:09..I'll really have to think about.

0:34:10 > 0:34:15A valuation much lower than expected has thrown any move into real doubt.

0:34:15 > 0:34:18Is there any way they can make the figures stack up?

0:34:18 > 0:34:21To help them work it out, we've provided a comparison of their

0:34:21 > 0:34:26finances in the UK and Australia, starting with the weekly food shop.

0:34:28 > 0:34:30Looking at this - ham...

0:34:30 > 0:34:34- now, you know the amount of ham that we go through in our house.- Yeah.

0:34:34 > 0:34:38- £5 in the UK.- Yes.- That would be two big packets of ham that we would use.

0:34:39 > 0:34:41£8.16...

0:34:41 > 0:34:43- here.- What about your bread?

0:34:45 > 0:34:48£1.71...

0:34:48 > 0:34:52of a difference. Dearer over here for a loaf.

0:34:53 > 0:34:54That's scandalous.

0:34:56 > 0:34:58Average what we would spend back home - £95 a week.

0:35:00 > 0:35:03- It can vary, you know, a pound or two here or there.- Yeah.

0:35:03 > 0:35:06Here, for the same...

0:35:06 > 0:35:09is £124.26 a week.

0:35:09 > 0:35:12So, equals...

0:35:13 > 0:35:17£29.26...

0:35:17 > 0:35:20pence of a difference.

0:35:20 > 0:35:22OK, we'll have a wee look at...

0:35:22 > 0:35:27Back in the UK, Helene's monthly mortgage is £500.

0:35:27 > 0:35:30Basing her rental outgoings in Australia on the dream property

0:35:30 > 0:35:34they saw, she would be paying triple that figure down under.

0:35:34 > 0:35:37But could her potential earning power balance the books?

0:35:37 > 0:35:43My income in the UK at the minute, um, for working part-time, is, um...

0:35:43 > 0:35:47£11,185 and...

0:35:47 > 0:35:50over here, um, you know, I would earn,

0:35:50 > 0:35:54- that's the equivalent in English pounds...- Yeah.- ..£50,700.

0:35:54 > 0:35:57- That's a big difference, like. - I'm serious!

0:35:57 > 0:36:00It's great news, but will it be enough to cover the bills?

0:36:00 > 0:36:02That's your phone and internet.

0:36:04 > 0:36:07OK, and then groceries. Yeah, this was it...

0:36:08 > 0:36:12They're more expensive here. Equals...

0:36:12 > 0:36:15We are in a plus of...

0:36:15 > 0:36:18£1,271.

0:36:18 > 0:36:20A month!

0:36:20 > 0:36:21A month!

0:36:24 > 0:36:25Oh, my God!

0:36:25 > 0:36:26That's mad.

0:36:26 > 0:36:31£15,252...

0:36:32 > 0:36:35..better off a year.

0:36:35 > 0:36:36That's life-changing to us, Nicole,

0:36:36 > 0:36:41it just opens so many doors for us, financially, you know.

0:36:41 > 0:36:43A big weight off my shoulders.

0:36:43 > 0:36:46Based on our cost of living, we are voting for...

0:36:49 > 0:36:50BOTH: Australia!

0:36:52 > 0:36:55That's a big weight off my mind, you know, to know that we

0:36:55 > 0:36:59can come out here, we're not scrimping and scraping,

0:36:59 > 0:37:02the lifestyle we could have...I would be stupid not to.

0:37:07 > 0:37:10The finances could mean a move to Australia is more likely,

0:37:10 > 0:37:14but, for Nicole, there's still one last stumbling block.

0:37:14 > 0:37:18She's always worried about leaving relatives and friends in the UK.

0:37:18 > 0:37:21So, as their final decision approaches,

0:37:21 > 0:37:25the family sit down together to watch a DVD of messages from home.

0:37:26 > 0:37:30- Hi, Helene, hi, kids.- Hi. - Hope you're enjoying the sunshine.

0:37:30 > 0:37:32Hi, guys. I miss yous.

0:37:32 > 0:37:36- Hi, kids.- Hope yous are doing well.

0:37:36 > 0:37:37Hi, Helene. Hi, kids.

0:37:37 > 0:37:39Helene and the kids are really, really close.

0:37:39 > 0:37:43We gel together, we tend to look after each other,

0:37:43 > 0:37:46and help each other out as well.

0:37:46 > 0:37:48Helene is very fun and she's great company.

0:37:48 > 0:37:50She's a good mum.

0:37:51 > 0:37:53Um, she works hard,

0:37:53 > 0:37:55she looks after her children very well.

0:37:55 > 0:37:57Tiernan's...

0:37:57 > 0:37:58jolly, bubbly.

0:37:58 > 0:38:02Erin, she's just a wee live wire, a wee princess, too.

0:38:02 > 0:38:06Nicole's fun to be around.

0:38:06 > 0:38:09Well, after Paul died,

0:38:09 > 0:38:12she actually had to grow up and become an adult.

0:38:12 > 0:38:15She's helped out, she's been a great helper,

0:38:15 > 0:38:17her mummy would be lost without her.

0:38:17 > 0:38:19If she moves to Australia, I don't think...

0:38:21 > 0:38:23..it would be a better life, you know,

0:38:23 > 0:38:25cos I think she's better off here

0:38:25 > 0:38:27with...

0:38:27 > 0:38:30- friends and family...- God, I didn't think he felt like that.

0:38:32 > 0:38:34I don't really think words would be

0:38:34 > 0:38:36able to describe how much I miss them.

0:38:37 > 0:38:43Watching them grow up. Tiernan every day reminds me more of my daddy.

0:38:43 > 0:38:47Erin's the youngest of all my wee brothers and sisters.

0:38:48 > 0:38:49She's like my wee princess.

0:38:53 > 0:38:55We'll not forget yous.

0:38:55 > 0:38:57- Never. - You'll always been in our prayers

0:38:57 > 0:39:00and we'll be thinking about yous all the time.

0:39:00 > 0:39:03I hope it's everything you want it to be.

0:39:04 > 0:39:06And more, but...

0:39:07 > 0:39:11..we'll be always here for you and the kids.

0:39:11 > 0:39:14- Love yous.- Hope you enjoy.

0:39:14 > 0:39:15(Hug.)

0:39:17 > 0:39:19Well, Helene, love, it's up to you now.

0:39:19 > 0:39:22It's your decision and all I can is wish you all the best,

0:39:22 > 0:39:24see you soon, love yous loads.

0:39:24 > 0:39:26Bye.

0:39:26 > 0:39:28NICOLE CRIES

0:39:30 > 0:39:32That's horrible to watch. You all right?

0:39:34 > 0:39:38You not want to go now? I knew that would change your mind.

0:39:42 > 0:39:43We will miss them, but...

0:39:46 > 0:39:49..they could come over and visit, and we can go over and visit.

0:39:49 > 0:39:52It'd be heartbreaking, I mean, there's Cleona says that you

0:39:52 > 0:39:55remind her more every day of her daddy, your daddy.

0:39:55 > 0:39:57Well, I think we've a lot to talk about.

0:39:57 > 0:39:59Your mind's changed completely.

0:40:00 > 0:40:02I don't want to come any more.

0:40:04 > 0:40:08With Nicole consistently voting for Australia,

0:40:08 > 0:40:11it had looked like Helene had brought her daughter around

0:40:11 > 0:40:15to the idea of a shared future down under, but the thought of

0:40:15 > 0:40:19leaving loved ones behind in the UK has badly affected Nicole.

0:40:19 > 0:40:23Is Helene's dream in danger of slipping from her grasp?

0:40:25 > 0:40:28Having seen the positive effect the week has had on her children,

0:40:28 > 0:40:30that's the last thing Helene wants.

0:40:34 > 0:40:38'Since being here, you know, I've noticed a change in all of us'

0:40:38 > 0:40:39in a different way.

0:40:39 > 0:40:43Tiernan, for the first time today, actually went into the sea,

0:40:43 > 0:40:46enjoying the beach that he said he never liked.

0:40:46 > 0:40:47And, Erin, you know,

0:40:47 > 0:40:50she's out here and she's burning off all that energy.

0:40:50 > 0:40:53Tiernan's noticed a difference in his mum.

0:40:53 > 0:40:55While Mum's been in Australia, I thought

0:40:55 > 0:41:00maybe she's been shouting less and we've been all getting along better.

0:41:00 > 0:41:03While Erin has also bought into the whole lifestyle.

0:41:03 > 0:41:05I really, really like Australia.

0:41:05 > 0:41:09It's really good, and I love the beach.

0:41:09 > 0:41:13Australia could offer the Savages the new start they've been

0:41:13 > 0:41:14searching for.

0:41:14 > 0:41:16'I feel we've been through enough.

0:41:16 > 0:41:18'We've had enough sadness in our lives'

0:41:18 > 0:41:21over the past couple of years, that...

0:41:21 > 0:41:23you know, why not, let's make a fresh start

0:41:23 > 0:41:26'and let's do what we always wanted to do...

0:41:26 > 0:41:27'you know, as a family?'

0:41:29 > 0:41:32While Nicole can see what her mum's trying to achieve...

0:41:32 > 0:41:36What she wants to try and do is rebuild our family and try

0:41:36 > 0:41:39and make us all come closer together.

0:41:39 > 0:41:42..she's still undecided where her future lies.

0:41:42 > 0:41:46To me, it is a hard decision to try and choose here or home.

0:41:47 > 0:41:50And I don't know what I actually think myself I want yet.

0:41:52 > 0:41:56Because home is where the memories lie and here you're

0:41:56 > 0:41:58starting from scratch and you don't have any memories yet.

0:42:00 > 0:42:03So, have the whole family been convinced Australia's

0:42:03 > 0:42:07where their future lies, or is the other side of the world just

0:42:07 > 0:42:09too far from loved ones at home?

0:42:10 > 0:42:14After our amazing week here in Australia,

0:42:14 > 0:42:17we have decided to live in...

0:42:28 > 0:42:29ALL: Australia!

0:42:29 > 0:42:32Yay! Everybody's the same! Oh!

0:42:32 > 0:42:34I didn't think that would have happened!

0:42:35 > 0:42:38I need to think of my future, not just...

0:42:38 > 0:42:40of what it would be like back home.

0:42:40 > 0:42:42I need to think of the positive, instead of the negative.

0:42:42 > 0:42:44I'm surprised everybody voted Australia.

0:42:44 > 0:42:47I knew us three would have, but I didn't think you would have

0:42:47 > 0:42:52after...you know, being upset because of family and friends.

0:42:52 > 0:42:56But, good. Yay! We're all going to Australia!

0:43:03 > 0:43:05So, Australia it is!

0:43:05 > 0:43:09With the whole family on board, the Savages will hopefully soon

0:43:09 > 0:43:13be on their way to starting a new life together down under.

0:43:13 > 0:43:15We wish them all the very best.
