0:00:02 > 0:00:05If you had pulled the plug on your family's

0:00:05 > 0:00:07previous decision to emigrate,

0:00:07 > 0:00:10how would you ever convince them to try again?

0:00:10 > 0:00:13Especially if some of them were now dead set against going.

0:00:15 > 0:00:19Three years ago, the Randalls were all set for a new life

0:00:19 > 0:00:22in New Zealand, until Mum, Judy, got cold feet.

0:00:22 > 0:00:24Chris stood there and just looked

0:00:24 > 0:00:27and said, "It's not going to happen, is it?"

0:00:27 > 0:00:29She's regretted the decision ever since,

0:00:29 > 0:00:32and fears husband Chris has never got over it.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35He said he forgave me, but it was a long time.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37Yeah, all right, I was, you know,

0:00:37 > 0:00:39I was a bit knocked, but who wouldn't be?

0:00:39 > 0:00:42Now Judy's desperate to try again,

0:00:42 > 0:00:45but is it too late to turn back the clock?

0:00:45 > 0:00:49It's going to take a lot for me to have the spark reignite.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52It's all into this week, whether it happens or it doesn't.

0:01:14 > 0:01:17New Zealand is made up of a group of remote islands

0:01:17 > 0:01:20in the southeastern Pacific Ocean.

0:01:20 > 0:01:22It's regularly ranked in the top ten countries

0:01:22 > 0:01:26offering a mix of healthy lifestyle, excellent education

0:01:26 > 0:01:28and a high standard of living.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30So it's easy to understand why an average

0:01:30 > 0:01:34of 12,000 British people make the move there every year.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38Latest figures estimate around 200,000 Brits call New Zealand home.

0:01:38 > 0:01:43Three years ago, Judy Randall stunned her family when,

0:01:43 > 0:01:46at the last minute, she backed out of their plans

0:01:46 > 0:01:48to emigrate to New Zealand.

0:01:48 > 0:01:50Regretting the decision ever since,

0:01:50 > 0:01:54she now has just one week to convince her entire family

0:01:54 > 0:01:58she was wrong and persuade them all over again.

0:02:00 > 0:02:04The Randalls' return to New Zealand begins with a 12,000-mile journey

0:02:04 > 0:02:07taking them from London via Singapore to Auckland.

0:02:13 > 0:02:16It was long. Very long.

0:02:16 > 0:02:18Very long, very tiring.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21All our bodies are saying at the moment, "It's Monday night,"

0:02:21 > 0:02:23where in fact it's actually Tuesday lunchtime.

0:02:23 > 0:02:27So, being back here, what are the family looking forward to most?

0:02:27 > 0:02:28Getting out and about again,

0:02:28 > 0:02:33reacquainting ourselves with the country, with Auckland.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35The traffic lights.

0:02:35 > 0:02:38- JOSH:- Why? - Oh, yeah, the little woo-woo-woo!

0:02:38 > 0:02:39We love the traffic lights.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42Yes, if I can wind Rachel up crossing the road by going

0:02:42 > 0:02:44"buck-a-buck-a-buck-a..."

0:02:44 > 0:02:46- Yeah, that was funny.- Yeah.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49She can't tell the difference between me and a traffic light.

0:02:49 > 0:02:53Joking aside, the Randalls face a difficult week ahead

0:02:53 > 0:02:56if Judy wants to see her dream get the green light.

0:02:57 > 0:03:01Back in the UK, Chris and Judy Randall live with Judy's daughter,

0:03:01 > 0:03:05Rachel, and their children, Josh and Abby, in Epsom, Surrey.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08Three years ago, Chris secured his dream job in New Zealand,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10after 18 months of planning to emigrate.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13I came out of the bedroom having taken the call,

0:03:13 > 0:03:16and sort of expecting... sort of, great euphoria, you know,

0:03:16 > 0:03:18"Got the job, we're going to do it, we're going to move."

0:03:18 > 0:03:20And there was absolute silence.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23Their faces were completely deadpan, I couldn't understand the reaction.

0:03:23 > 0:03:25At the last minute,

0:03:25 > 0:03:28the reality of leaving her mum and oldest son, Sam, behind

0:03:28 > 0:03:33became too much, and Judy pulled the plug on the family's plans.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35It just got worse and worse,

0:03:35 > 0:03:39this feeling I had of dread,

0:03:39 > 0:03:44and then when we told Josh and Abby, Josh ran out the room.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46He was really upset.

0:03:46 > 0:03:50I ran out of the room after him, and...

0:03:52 > 0:03:55..there we were, sitting on the bed,

0:03:55 > 0:03:58crying our eyes out, both of us.

0:03:58 > 0:04:01The door opened, Chris stood there and just looked and said,

0:04:01 > 0:04:03"It's not going to happen, is it?"

0:04:03 > 0:04:07Chris' hopes for a new life in New Zealand were suddenly destroyed.

0:04:07 > 0:04:12Monday morning, I rang up the agency to give them the news that,

0:04:12 > 0:04:16you know, despite all their efforts and our efforts to go over,

0:04:16 > 0:04:19that we wouldn't be going ahead with it.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22It was just too much of a wrench for my wife and my kids.

0:04:24 > 0:04:27It just didn't seem the right thing at the time,

0:04:27 > 0:04:30but everyone gets scared.

0:04:30 > 0:04:34It is a scary thing, to just leave everything behind,

0:04:34 > 0:04:38and it was just pure fear factor.

0:04:38 > 0:04:39But I...

0:04:39 > 0:04:41I so regretted it.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45Judy fears Chris has never forgiven her.

0:04:45 > 0:04:49He says he forgave me, but it was a long time, it really was.

0:04:49 > 0:04:50He...

0:04:50 > 0:04:53People used to say, "Well, when are you going?"

0:04:53 > 0:04:56And he'd hand me the phone and say, "Oh, Judy'll explain."

0:04:56 > 0:04:59I was very focused on trying to get an income once we got back,

0:04:59 > 0:05:03so, you know, whether that got misconstrued as, you know...

0:05:04 > 0:05:06..having the hump and not forgiving her...

0:05:08 > 0:05:11Yeah, all right, I was a bit knocked, but who wouldn't be?

0:05:11 > 0:05:15Their cancelled plans forced Chris to find a new job in the UK.

0:05:15 > 0:05:17Today he's happy in his career

0:05:17 > 0:05:22as a freelance information technology computer consultant.

0:05:22 > 0:05:25But Judy's had a change of heart.

0:05:25 > 0:05:26Again.

0:05:27 > 0:05:30When we're here, everyone splits up.

0:05:30 > 0:05:35Rachel does her thing, Josh does his thing, Abby does her thing.

0:05:35 > 0:05:40When we're in a strange place, we do group together more

0:05:40 > 0:05:43- and we do things together. - It gels us, doesn't it?

0:05:43 > 0:05:47And we have that family life again,

0:05:47 > 0:05:49so that, to me, is what I'd like.

0:05:49 > 0:05:53Judy thinks New Zealand could offer the whole family

0:05:53 > 0:05:57the life she dreams of. Eldest daughter Rachel agrees.

0:05:57 > 0:05:59It's just...crazy lifestyle out there, as well,

0:05:59 > 0:06:02it's completely different to here, as well.

0:06:02 > 0:06:05But Abby has reservations.

0:06:05 > 0:06:08It's going to be hard for me to go all the way,

0:06:08 > 0:06:10halfway across the world.

0:06:10 > 0:06:14And football mad Josh, who didn't want to go the first time,

0:06:14 > 0:06:16is totally against a move.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19I've got good friends round here, and then I've got...

0:06:19 > 0:06:21Football's better over here.

0:06:21 > 0:06:25But the biggest challenge Judy faces is persuading Chris,

0:06:25 > 0:06:27for a second time, to move to New Zealand.

0:06:27 > 0:06:32I can understand - sort of, once bitten, twice shy.

0:06:32 > 0:06:37He's going to find it hard to believe that I will do it.

0:06:37 > 0:06:41It's going to take a lot for me to have the spark reignite.

0:06:47 > 0:06:49The last time they were in New Zealand,

0:06:49 > 0:06:52Judy's sudden change of heart left Chris devastated,

0:06:52 > 0:06:55so everything is riding on this trip.

0:06:55 > 0:06:57Will it be enough to convince the whole family

0:06:57 > 0:06:59it could be the right move?

0:06:59 > 0:07:02Home for the week is a three-storey detached house

0:07:02 > 0:07:04in Torbay on the North Shore.

0:07:04 > 0:07:06Just minutes from the beach and local village,

0:07:06 > 0:07:10it should offer a comfortable introduction to Kiwi living.

0:07:10 > 0:07:12But how will it go down with the Randalls?

0:07:13 > 0:07:15Oh, wow! This is nice.

0:07:17 > 0:07:18Oh, wow.

0:07:18 > 0:07:22That's right, the standard topsy-turvy house, isn't it? Yeah.

0:07:22 > 0:07:23- JOSH:- Why is it upstairs?

0:07:25 > 0:07:30Because you get views here, so it's nice to have views.

0:07:30 > 0:07:33But the views aren't to everyone's liking.

0:07:33 > 0:07:34What I'm not too happy about

0:07:34 > 0:07:37is the close boxing in of houses on top of each other.

0:07:37 > 0:07:39That's one thing I don't like.

0:07:39 > 0:07:40But I'm sure there are other houses

0:07:40 > 0:07:42that have got their own bits of land and space

0:07:42 > 0:07:44and things like that, so...

0:07:44 > 0:07:46But as a general sort of first impression...

0:07:48 > 0:07:50..it's got some ups and it's got some downs.

0:07:50 > 0:07:52Chris isn't impressed,

0:07:52 > 0:07:54but what do the kids think of their base for the week?

0:07:54 > 0:07:56I think it's quite nice, actually.

0:07:56 > 0:07:59It's really open and it's quite modern, as well.

0:07:59 > 0:08:01The rooms are really big.

0:08:01 > 0:08:04I didn't really expect it to be like this.

0:08:04 > 0:08:10It's just, like, really open, and, erm, really nice.

0:08:10 > 0:08:14I prefer my house at home because there's only two floors,

0:08:14 > 0:08:16whereas this has, like, four.

0:08:16 > 0:08:19Judy could have a tough time on her hands

0:08:19 > 0:08:21if she's going to win the boys around.

0:08:21 > 0:08:24Bear in mind that, you know, I was all for it three years ago,

0:08:24 > 0:08:26I'm now - I'm the opposite, now.

0:08:26 > 0:08:28We will get there by the end of the week.

0:08:28 > 0:08:30She's hoping the next few days

0:08:30 > 0:08:33will see a decision made once and for all.

0:08:33 > 0:08:35It's sort of causing a bit of a rift.

0:08:35 > 0:08:38So it's...

0:08:38 > 0:08:42It's all into this week, whether it happens or it doesn't.

0:08:48 > 0:08:50In the UK, the Randalls live

0:08:50 > 0:08:54in a five-bedroomed detached property in Epsom.

0:08:54 > 0:08:56It's a beautiful family home,

0:08:56 > 0:08:59but if Judy gets her way and sticks to her plan

0:08:59 > 0:09:01of a life in New Zealand,

0:09:01 > 0:09:04she's got a clear idea of the house she'd love.

0:09:04 > 0:09:07It would be a room for every child...

0:09:07 > 0:09:10it would be nice to have a games room.

0:09:10 > 0:09:12- I sound really snobbish now, don't I? - Yeah.

0:09:12 > 0:09:16- No, nice to have a games room. - Guest room.- Oh, yeah, definitely.

0:09:16 > 0:09:21I always said I'd love to look out the window at Rangitoto, didn't I?

0:09:21 > 0:09:24Or any volcano would do, you know. As long as it's dormant.

0:09:24 > 0:09:26Yeah, just have a volcano.

0:09:26 > 0:09:28Yeah, volcano in your back yard, that sort of thing.

0:09:28 > 0:09:30Yeah, that would be nice.

0:09:31 > 0:09:34Judy and Chris have high expectations

0:09:34 > 0:09:37and a healthy £500,000 budget,

0:09:37 > 0:09:40but will it be enough to make the dream home their reality?

0:09:41 > 0:09:44Today, we'll show them three properties

0:09:44 > 0:09:46based on what they want, what they need

0:09:46 > 0:09:48and what they can actually afford.

0:09:48 > 0:09:50It should give them an accurate idea

0:09:50 > 0:09:53of the type of property their money might buy them.

0:09:54 > 0:09:58First call of the day is a traditional Kiwi lifestyle plot

0:09:58 > 0:10:00in the rural area of Waitakere.

0:10:00 > 0:10:03Just over half an hour's drive from the centre of Auckland,

0:10:03 > 0:10:07this five-bedroom property has a similar layout to UK houses,

0:10:07 > 0:10:11and comes with plenty of land, which should appeal to Chris.

0:10:11 > 0:10:13Amazing view, isn't it? Amazing vista.

0:10:14 > 0:10:15Come on then, let's have a look.

0:10:15 > 0:10:17Let's see what it's got in store for us.

0:10:20 > 0:10:22- That's nice and big, isn't it? - Lovely, isn't it?

0:10:22 > 0:10:24- Check that view out. - I know, it's beautiful.

0:10:24 > 0:10:26Imagine Josh playing football on there,

0:10:26 > 0:10:28"Right, he's kicked the ball over, you go and get it."

0:10:28 > 0:10:30- It's about two miles down the road! - Yeah!

0:10:30 > 0:10:33That could help swing things for Josh.

0:10:33 > 0:10:35It is fantastic, isn't it?

0:10:37 > 0:10:40- That's what we need, pack it all away.- Hide things away.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43- Open it up when you're using it, then close it all up.- That's right.

0:10:43 > 0:10:45Brilliant idea.

0:10:45 > 0:10:46It is nice.

0:10:46 > 0:10:49You could have quite a big table there, actually, couldn't you?

0:10:49 > 0:10:52This sounds positive, and with a master bedroom for Mum and Dad,

0:10:52 > 0:10:54and rooms for each of the children,

0:10:54 > 0:10:57this house should have the space the family want.

0:10:57 > 0:11:01This is a lovely-sized room. Very spacious.

0:11:01 > 0:11:04Cos you don't have to fill it up with wardrobes.

0:11:04 > 0:11:07No, cos you've got a walk-in wardrobe over there.

0:11:07 > 0:11:08Yeah, at home you've got wardrobes.

0:11:08 > 0:11:11It's just like Narnia in reverse, isn't it?

0:11:11 > 0:11:13It's just lots of wardrobes.

0:11:13 > 0:11:17It's not long before Judy's making plans.

0:11:17 > 0:11:19- Ah.- Ah, this is nice. - So, probably kids...

0:11:19 > 0:11:22- This would be the games room. - ..and whatever, yeah.

0:11:22 > 0:11:25I said, "If it had a bed in it, it would be my room!"

0:11:25 > 0:11:28- Oh, right, yeah. - Well, a sofa bed maybe, but...

0:11:28 > 0:11:29That's nice, isn't it?

0:11:31 > 0:11:33- Nice view.- It's fantastic, isn't it?

0:11:33 > 0:11:35I wouldn't know what to watch, actually,

0:11:35 > 0:11:37the telly or out the window.

0:11:37 > 0:11:39That's nice, games room.

0:11:39 > 0:11:42Josh doesn't seem too fussed about having a games room,

0:11:42 > 0:11:46but perhaps something in the back garden will help win him over.

0:11:50 > 0:11:52- Look at that.- They've got a kennel.

0:11:52 > 0:11:54- Oh, look at that. JOSH:- There's a slide into it.

0:11:54 > 0:11:56Look! Naughty step, as well.

0:11:56 > 0:11:58Aww...

0:11:58 > 0:12:00Isn't that lovely?

0:12:00 > 0:12:03Wow.

0:12:03 > 0:12:04Gosh.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06- I tell you what...- Huge garden.

0:12:06 > 0:12:09- I could live like this.- Yeah.

0:12:09 > 0:12:12There's only one downside, to it, really,

0:12:12 > 0:12:14and that's, erm, I'd have to go to work.

0:12:14 > 0:12:16THEY LAUGH

0:12:16 > 0:12:18This is a great start.

0:12:18 > 0:12:20It's a really impressive house,

0:12:20 > 0:12:22and Chris can see himself living here.

0:12:22 > 0:12:26But if it's over the family's £500,000 budget,

0:12:26 > 0:12:28Judy's dreams could be dashed.

0:12:28 > 0:12:31You reckon it's £460,000, yeah?

0:12:31 > 0:12:34I reckon 395.

0:12:34 > 0:12:36- 395,000?- Yeah.- Pounds?- Yeah.

0:12:36 > 0:12:39I think it's more than that.

0:12:39 > 0:12:41- Go on, then, guess. - ABBY:- I'm going with Josh.

0:12:44 > 0:12:46- 550,000.- 550?

0:12:51 > 0:12:53Go on, then, show us how much it is.

0:12:53 > 0:12:54- 560!- Oh, 560!

0:12:54 > 0:12:57- Mum, you got it right. - So I was right!

0:12:57 > 0:12:59I was closest.

0:12:59 > 0:13:02So, as Dr Evil would say, "1 million."

0:13:02 > 0:13:04Actually, yeah, it's NZ1 million.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10This house has a lot of what the family are looking for,

0:13:10 > 0:13:14but at £60,000 over budget it's unlikely to encourage Chris

0:13:14 > 0:13:17to reconsider moving to the other side of the world.

0:13:19 > 0:13:22Next stop is Mairangi Bay in the North Shore,

0:13:22 > 0:13:25one of the most sought-after areas in Auckland.

0:13:25 > 0:13:28With beaches, excellent schools and shops,

0:13:28 > 0:13:30this suburb is popular with expats.

0:13:30 > 0:13:33It's also an area Judy has expressed interest in,

0:13:33 > 0:13:37but will this five-bedroom house be the one for the Randalls?

0:13:40 > 0:13:42- Lounge.- I like the sofa.

0:13:42 > 0:13:44Cool view!

0:13:44 > 0:13:47OK, that's the front room.

0:13:47 > 0:13:48It's a nice size.

0:13:51 > 0:13:52The cupboard.

0:13:52 > 0:13:56The cupboard that no-one wants anyone to look in!

0:13:56 > 0:13:58OK. What's through here?

0:13:59 > 0:14:02Oh, a bedroom!

0:14:02 > 0:14:04I didn't expect that.

0:14:04 > 0:14:06I really didn't expect that.

0:14:06 > 0:14:08OK, yeah, got an en-suite room.

0:14:08 > 0:14:10I reckon this is an annexe,

0:14:10 > 0:14:12this is your granny-annexe, that's what I reckon.

0:14:12 > 0:14:15- That's still like a living room, though, isn't it?- I don't mind it.

0:14:15 > 0:14:18- That's their own space, isn't it? - Oh, yeah, I see what you mean.

0:14:18 > 0:14:21Judy's spot on. Unlike the last place,

0:14:21 > 0:14:23this house is more typically Kiwi in design,

0:14:23 > 0:14:26meaning the main living areas are upstairs.

0:14:26 > 0:14:29It's not as big as I thought this house would be, though, I must admit.

0:14:29 > 0:14:33From the outside it looks very, very large.

0:14:33 > 0:14:37- There's a balcony on the front there, as well.- Yeah.

0:14:37 > 0:14:39And all the way round.

0:14:39 > 0:14:41Yeah, you've got...

0:14:41 > 0:14:42If this is the living space...

0:14:42 > 0:14:45- It's not a very large living space. - ..it's not that large.

0:14:45 > 0:14:47The family aren't that impressed.

0:14:47 > 0:14:49Perhaps the bedrooms will be spacious enough

0:14:49 > 0:14:52to make up for the smaller living area.

0:14:52 > 0:14:55Ah, right. The master bedroom, maybe.

0:14:55 > 0:14:56Another double bed.

0:14:56 > 0:14:59That looks like a mum and dad's room.

0:14:59 > 0:15:02- Yeah, that's a nice size. - This is a nicer bedroom.

0:15:02 > 0:15:05Nice bright room, good size.

0:15:05 > 0:15:07Another double room.

0:15:08 > 0:15:10So it looks like you kids could all have double beds.

0:15:10 > 0:15:11Maybe.

0:15:13 > 0:15:16Unlike many modern properties in this region,

0:15:16 > 0:15:20the house also has a good-sized garden, which should please Chris.

0:15:20 > 0:15:23- It's actually quite landscaped, as well, isn't it?- Hmm.

0:15:23 > 0:15:26So you've actually got a nice bit of garden.

0:15:26 > 0:15:29It's really nice, isn't it? So you could really...

0:15:29 > 0:15:31- You really could entertain here. - You could, yeah.

0:15:31 > 0:15:33Judy might be getting ahead of herself

0:15:33 > 0:15:35if she's already thinking about parties.

0:15:35 > 0:15:37It's not as nice as the other house.

0:15:38 > 0:15:41- We do like Merangi Bay. Or Mairangi Bay.- Mairangi Bay, yeah.

0:15:41 > 0:15:43Got to say it right, Mairangi Bay.

0:15:43 > 0:15:47It's not far from the beach, and you've got the shops.

0:15:48 > 0:15:52You've got more life around you, as opposed to the lifestyle plot,

0:15:52 > 0:15:54which is more rural, and you're basically on your own

0:15:54 > 0:15:55apart from the neighbours.

0:15:55 > 0:15:58It depends what you want out of life, really, doesn't it?

0:15:58 > 0:16:00Yeah. Schools here are probably a lot nearer, as well,

0:16:00 > 0:16:03- probably more school bus service. - Probably.

0:16:03 > 0:16:05But house-wise, I think the house is a lot smaller

0:16:05 > 0:16:06and I prefer the other house.

0:16:06 > 0:16:09It doesn't have the land of the previous property

0:16:09 > 0:16:12and it seems the house itself hasn't won Chris over,

0:16:12 > 0:16:15but will it be any closer to the family's budget?

0:16:16 > 0:16:18- How much do you reckon? - How much do I reckon?

0:16:19 > 0:16:22I would say pounds-wise, about 320.

0:16:22 > 0:16:25- Really low?- Yeah. - You think?- Yeah.

0:16:26 > 0:16:28- I don't. JOSH:- 460.

0:16:28 > 0:16:30550?

0:16:30 > 0:16:32I say 520.

0:16:32 > 0:16:33490.

0:16:35 > 0:16:37Ready... Drum roll.

0:16:39 > 0:16:40508.

0:16:40 > 0:16:42- But you're paying for the area. - Yeah, that's the thing.

0:16:42 > 0:16:45And it's a lovely area, so that's what you pay for.

0:16:45 > 0:16:47£8,000 over budget makes this house

0:16:47 > 0:16:50much more affordable than the last one,

0:16:50 > 0:16:53but it's still more than Chris is prepared to pay.

0:16:53 > 0:16:55Is the reality of property prices

0:16:55 > 0:16:57starting to take a toll on Judy's dream?

0:16:59 > 0:17:01The final house of the day is in Stillwater.

0:17:01 > 0:17:06Situated on the coast, it's within easy commuting distance of Auckland,

0:17:06 > 0:17:08making it ideal for Chris' work.

0:17:08 > 0:17:11Add in good schools and a thriving local community

0:17:11 > 0:17:16for Judy and the children, and they could be looking at the ideal spot.

0:17:16 > 0:17:20But will the house be somewhere the Randalls can see themselves living?

0:17:20 > 0:17:21Oh, my God!

0:17:23 > 0:17:26- Wow.- That's a bit more like it, isn't it?

0:17:26 > 0:17:31This traditional weatherboard house is part of a popular private estate,

0:17:31 > 0:17:32but with five acres of land,

0:17:32 > 0:17:35neighbours certainly won't be a problem.

0:17:35 > 0:17:39- It's like Little House On The Prairie, isn't it?- It's huge.

0:17:39 > 0:17:41Wow.

0:17:41 > 0:17:42Oh, dear.

0:17:42 > 0:17:44Right, better take our shoes off.

0:17:47 > 0:17:50But will they be as impressed with the inside?

0:17:51 > 0:17:53It's the mixture of...

0:17:53 > 0:17:58sort of, a bit of an English home with the space...

0:17:58 > 0:17:59It's like a design...

0:17:59 > 0:18:01Well, you've got the wood and things like that,

0:18:01 > 0:18:04which is sort of... Well, we've got wood at home.

0:18:04 > 0:18:06You've got that, but you've also got

0:18:06 > 0:18:10the space of the New Zealand homes, which are just...

0:18:10 > 0:18:12- Yeah, sort of like ranch style, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:18:12 > 0:18:14- It's like a ranch house.- It is.

0:18:14 > 0:18:16I think it's fantastic.

0:18:16 > 0:18:19It's the most positive reaction of the day.

0:18:19 > 0:18:22Let's hope the rest of the house is as pleasing.

0:18:22 > 0:18:24Gosh! It's huge.

0:18:24 > 0:18:26Oh, wow.

0:18:26 > 0:18:28It's like the bridge of a ship, isn't it?

0:18:30 > 0:18:32Gosh, it's lovely, isn't it?

0:18:34 > 0:18:38Judy seems smitten, and, with five bedrooms,

0:18:38 > 0:18:42space for Rachel, Josh and Abby shouldn't be an issue, either.

0:18:44 > 0:18:46Oh, this is better, yeah.

0:18:46 > 0:18:49Very in-keeping master bedroom.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52Sorry, Rachel, not your room. SHE LAUGHS

0:18:52 > 0:18:55So you have got a neighbour. You have got a few neighbours.

0:18:55 > 0:18:58Yeah, you're overlooked a little bit, with binoculars, yeah.

0:18:58 > 0:19:00- A telescope. - It's lovely though, isn't it?

0:19:02 > 0:19:04Could this house be winning Chris round?

0:19:04 > 0:19:06With room for Josh to play football

0:19:06 > 0:19:08and a swimming pool in the garden,

0:19:08 > 0:19:11the only thing missing's a volcano for Judy.

0:19:11 > 0:19:14How hot's the pool, is it heated? Go and find out.

0:19:15 > 0:19:18Don't do that, cos you've got to go in the house.

0:19:18 > 0:19:19- SHE GASPS - It's cold!

0:19:19 > 0:19:22Gosh, it's a decent-sized pool, though, look.

0:19:22 > 0:19:24Why'd you think I sent one of you to do it?

0:19:24 > 0:19:25Really decent-sized pool.

0:19:25 > 0:19:28Yeah, this is going to be so out of reach.

0:19:28 > 0:19:30- So, so out of reach.- Yeah.

0:19:32 > 0:19:35- It's fantastic.- It is. - It's lovely.

0:19:36 > 0:19:40The third property has finally hit the mark with all of the Randalls.

0:19:40 > 0:19:43They've a budget of £500,000.

0:19:43 > 0:19:46But how much do they think this house is worth?

0:19:46 > 0:19:49This would swing it for me. It really would.

0:19:49 > 0:19:51- I would say...- Pounds. - ..in pounds,

0:19:51 > 0:19:54I would probably say it's over a million quid,

0:19:54 > 0:19:57so probably about 1.5 million, possibly more.

0:19:59 > 0:20:04OK. I think £1.1 million.

0:20:04 > 0:20:07Don't get me into this, cos I have no idea, it's huge!

0:20:07 > 0:20:09I'm going to say one million.

0:20:09 > 0:20:13Actually, no, one million...

0:20:13 > 0:20:15- and a quarter. - THEY LAUGH

0:20:16 > 0:20:19- Josh?- I'm not guessing.

0:20:19 > 0:20:21- Right, go on, then. - Go on, do the reveal.

0:20:21 > 0:20:23Put us out of our misery.

0:20:23 > 0:20:25No way!

0:20:25 > 0:20:26Absolutely shocked.

0:20:26 > 0:20:30- That's only a little bit more than our house is at home.- Yeah.

0:20:32 > 0:20:35We haven't got an acre at home. And this is five times that.

0:20:35 > 0:20:38Yeah, I'm just gobsmacked, absolutely gobsmacked.

0:20:38 > 0:20:43- If we can attain something like this for that, then...- Unbelievable.

0:20:45 > 0:20:48It's been a day of ups and downs for the Randalls.

0:20:48 > 0:20:50Property one was over budget

0:20:50 > 0:20:54and, while they loved the home, they worried it might be too rural.

0:20:54 > 0:20:57The second was close to budget and they loved the area,

0:20:57 > 0:20:59but weren't mad about the house.

0:20:59 > 0:21:01And then there was property three.

0:21:01 > 0:21:04It may be £200,000 over budget,

0:21:04 > 0:21:07but if moving to New Zealand could increase Chris'

0:21:07 > 0:21:11earning potential significantly, it might not be out of reach.

0:21:12 > 0:21:15Based on what we've seen and the information we've been given,

0:21:15 > 0:21:17we vote for...

0:21:22 > 0:21:24ALL: New Zealand.

0:21:26 > 0:21:28Whoa! Five out of five!

0:21:28 > 0:21:30- Result!- Josh!

0:21:30 > 0:21:33- Josh!- Houses are better.

0:21:33 > 0:21:35- Houses are better. - You liked that, that big one.

0:21:35 > 0:21:38- You liked the last one, didn't you? - He just wants a games room.

0:21:38 > 0:21:40He wants a games room and a football pitch out back.

0:21:45 > 0:21:48Despite its price, the dream property has brought

0:21:48 > 0:21:51the whole family closer to sharing Judy's vision

0:21:51 > 0:21:53of a better life down under.

0:21:54 > 0:21:56But to achieve that standard of living,

0:21:56 > 0:21:59Chris will need to find the right job.

0:21:59 > 0:22:02Back in the UK, he's a self-employed ITC consultant,

0:22:02 > 0:22:06but can he transfer his skills to New Zealand?

0:22:06 > 0:22:08I've got a lot of experience in this country,

0:22:08 > 0:22:10I've got a lot to give out there,

0:22:10 > 0:22:13and to keep my, um...

0:22:13 > 0:22:16to keep my interest in terms of my working environment,

0:22:16 > 0:22:18the right job is...

0:22:18 > 0:22:22you know, is important to me - at the right salary.

0:22:22 > 0:22:24Obviously, the financial consideration of the move itself,

0:22:24 > 0:22:26I mean, that's going to be paramount.

0:22:29 > 0:22:33When the Randalls first contemplated emigrating,

0:22:33 > 0:22:37Chris worked hard to secure his dream job in New Zealand.

0:22:37 > 0:22:39Three years and a recession later,

0:22:39 > 0:22:42he's worried he won't be able to get a similar offer.

0:22:42 > 0:22:45To answer his concerns, we've set up a meeting

0:22:45 > 0:22:49with an ITC recruitment specialist in central Auckland.

0:22:49 > 0:22:53Given my current CV and given the changing circumstances

0:22:53 > 0:22:56in terms of the industry over those years,

0:22:56 > 0:22:57whether my CV is...

0:22:57 > 0:23:00you know, meets muster in terms of being able to secure a role.

0:23:00 > 0:23:04Absolutely. I think, with your level of experience,

0:23:04 > 0:23:08particularly the fact that you've worked across a number of industries,

0:23:08 > 0:23:10you would absolutely be able to secure a role in New Zealand.

0:23:10 > 0:23:14It's a positive start for Chris, but less encouraging is the news

0:23:14 > 0:23:18that the local IT sector has recently faced considerable cuts.

0:23:18 > 0:23:21What tends to happen in these situations is, you know,

0:23:21 > 0:23:23it's a typical supply and demand.

0:23:23 > 0:23:25It's going to have a lot of candidates in the marketplace,

0:23:25 > 0:23:28but, again, I'd go back to the level of experience that you have,

0:23:28 > 0:23:32across a number of different industry sectors, will hold you in good stead.

0:23:32 > 0:23:35That reassurance could help Judy convince Chris

0:23:35 > 0:23:38it isn't too late to start again.

0:23:38 > 0:23:40While he's investigating his work options,

0:23:40 > 0:23:43she's taken Rachel, Josh and Abby to see Auckland

0:23:43 > 0:23:45from the top of Mount Eden.

0:23:46 > 0:23:48- Where's London?- London...

0:23:48 > 0:23:50- There it is.- Right there.

0:23:50 > 0:23:54- It's facing the Sky Tower. - 18,339 kilometres in that direction.

0:23:54 > 0:23:56- RACHEL:- How can they know that?!

0:23:56 > 0:23:57LAUGHTER

0:23:59 > 0:24:03The family outing has given Judy some valuable thinking time.

0:24:03 > 0:24:06It's very important, I think...

0:24:06 > 0:24:11Chris to be happy in his job is...is a main thing,

0:24:11 > 0:24:15because if he's grumpy, then he's snappy,

0:24:15 > 0:24:17and then no-one's happy.

0:24:17 > 0:24:19So if he can get a good job...

0:24:19 > 0:24:21Cos he has to be stimulated,

0:24:21 > 0:24:25he can't just go nine-to-five and just do a job,

0:24:25 > 0:24:27he has to get his teeth into something,

0:24:27 > 0:24:30so as long as they've got that here, he'll be happy.

0:24:30 > 0:24:33And if he's happy, we're all happy.

0:24:33 > 0:24:36With his family's future happiness down under at stake,

0:24:36 > 0:24:39everything rests on Chris' potential earning power.

0:24:39 > 0:24:42I think that you could be looking at

0:24:42 > 0:24:46anywhere from the 120 up to 140,

0:24:46 > 0:24:48as a baseline.

0:24:48 > 0:24:51There are some organisations that might pay up to 160,

0:24:51 > 0:24:54and again, it's quite a big gap.

0:24:54 > 0:24:57But, as I explained before, it's very much around...

0:24:57 > 0:25:00it depends on the different organisations and structures.

0:25:00 > 0:25:02Chris' reaction to this news

0:25:02 > 0:25:04certainly isn't giving anything away.

0:25:07 > 0:25:10Potentially, he could be earning a comparable salary

0:25:10 > 0:25:13to what he gets in the UK, but will it be enough

0:25:13 > 0:25:16to convince him to choose work in New Zealand?

0:25:16 > 0:25:20So, having had the conversation with the ICT recruitment agent

0:25:20 > 0:25:24and got information around salary expectation,

0:25:24 > 0:25:27employability and life/work balance,

0:25:27 > 0:25:29I vote for...

0:25:35 > 0:25:37Indeterminate.

0:25:37 > 0:25:40That's not the result Judy was hoping for.

0:25:40 > 0:25:42While the children check out Kiwi treats,

0:25:42 > 0:25:46she meets Chris to find out if his salary expectations were met.

0:25:46 > 0:25:49If it's a buyer's market out there, they might go the low end,

0:25:49 > 0:25:51because what they do, they go the range.

0:25:51 > 0:25:53So if we're talking top-end range,

0:25:53 > 0:25:55then we've got more chance than with the bottom-end range.

0:25:55 > 0:25:58- It depends on the company, as well, doesn't it?- Depends on the company.

0:25:58 > 0:26:01Some companies pay more than others.

0:26:01 > 0:26:03- So how did you vote? - How did I vote?

0:26:03 > 0:26:06I voted indeterminate with a leaning towards New Zealand,

0:26:06 > 0:26:08- depending on...- Ooh!

0:26:08 > 0:26:10Depending on what the salary, the actual salary was.

0:26:10 > 0:26:12It's going to be dependent on the job.

0:26:12 > 0:26:15- OK, depends on what you got offered. - Yeah.- OK.

0:26:15 > 0:26:17- So it's got to be the right type of offer.- OK, that's good.

0:26:17 > 0:26:20- That's more hope, that's good. - Yeah, so...- Good, excellent.

0:26:26 > 0:26:31Chris might still be undecided, but Judy's staying positive.

0:26:31 > 0:26:34She believes the Kiwi lifestyle will help bring

0:26:34 > 0:26:36the whole family closer together,

0:26:36 > 0:26:40and a day out down under could be her last chance

0:26:40 > 0:26:42to get Chris and Josh on board.

0:26:44 > 0:26:46The family would love to live by the sea,

0:26:46 > 0:26:49so today they're trying their hand at paddleboarding,

0:26:49 > 0:26:50a popular activity here

0:26:50 > 0:26:53that could give them the time together Judy craves.

0:26:53 > 0:26:55First up, a quick lesson.

0:26:55 > 0:26:58We won't call that a shark, we'll call it a fish.

0:26:58 > 0:26:59Fish faces forward.

0:26:59 > 0:27:01If you remember that,

0:27:01 > 0:27:05that's the correct way to put the paddle into the water.

0:27:05 > 0:27:06I'm excited.

0:27:07 > 0:27:09I can't wait to get out there!

0:27:09 > 0:27:11Whether I stay up out there is another matter,

0:27:11 > 0:27:13but I still can't wait to get out there.

0:27:20 > 0:27:22SCREAMING

0:27:22 > 0:27:23It was funny when Chris came off,

0:27:23 > 0:27:25I thought I was going to fall off then.

0:27:25 > 0:27:27Because I collided into him, my board was over his

0:27:27 > 0:27:30and he's going, "Who's on me? Who's on me?"

0:27:30 > 0:27:32Paddleboarding's the fastest-growing water sport

0:27:32 > 0:27:36in New Zealand, and a great way to explore the country's coastline.

0:27:36 > 0:27:38Apparently good for balance and fitness,

0:27:38 > 0:27:41it's supposed to be surprisingly easy to master.

0:27:41 > 0:27:42It's really good.

0:27:42 > 0:27:47I'm glad the kids seem to have taken to it, wherever they've gone.

0:27:47 > 0:27:51But, er, yeah, no, I could...

0:27:51 > 0:27:52I could do a morning of this.

0:27:52 > 0:27:55They've taken to paddleboarding like ducks to water,

0:27:55 > 0:27:58but what about Josh? Did he enjoy it?

0:27:58 > 0:28:01- It was well fun. - We enjoyed it a lot, didn't we?

0:28:01 > 0:28:04- It was fun!- Yeah, it was pretty awesome, actually.

0:28:04 > 0:28:07- I think it was good. - I'd love to do that again.

0:28:07 > 0:28:09- You want to do it again? - Yeah!- That's good!

0:28:09 > 0:28:13The day also gives Judy and eldest daughter Rachel

0:28:13 > 0:28:16a chance to compare thoughts on how the week's going.

0:28:16 > 0:28:19What do you reckon on the others changing their minds?

0:28:19 > 0:28:22Do you think they will change them? Think they're up for it?

0:28:22 > 0:28:24I think Josh has changed his mind a bit.

0:28:24 > 0:28:27I think he's known that...

0:28:27 > 0:28:29- Well, he does know that he likes it out here.- Yeah.

0:28:31 > 0:28:32Yes!

0:28:32 > 0:28:35Chris - not 100%.

0:28:35 > 0:28:37- Oh, he's changing his mind. - Oh, is he?

0:28:37 > 0:28:39- Yeah, he did say.- OK. That's good.

0:28:39 > 0:28:41Yeah, cos he went for the work thing yesterday

0:28:41 > 0:28:44and the work thing...

0:28:44 > 0:28:47er, it wasn't too bad.

0:28:47 > 0:28:50It wasn't a case of, we'd lose a lot of money, so...

0:28:50 > 0:28:52OK, that's good.

0:28:52 > 0:28:54He's coming round to it. He's...

0:28:55 > 0:28:57Yay!

0:28:59 > 0:29:02Judy believes she's starting to win Chris over.

0:29:02 > 0:29:05But with Rachel so desperate to make the move,

0:29:05 > 0:29:08let's hope she isn't setting her up for another fall.

0:29:08 > 0:29:10Oh, yummy, look at that!

0:29:11 > 0:29:12- JOSH:- Which one's mine?

0:29:12 > 0:29:15You could say you can do this at home, but it's different, isn't it?

0:29:15 > 0:29:19It's not heaving, it's not commercialised...

0:29:19 > 0:29:21It's just natural.

0:29:21 > 0:29:22I need that house.

0:29:22 > 0:29:25They're still thinking about that dream house.

0:29:25 > 0:29:28Will the day together as a family have persuaded Josh

0:29:28 > 0:29:30and Chris their futures could lie in New Zealand?

0:29:30 > 0:29:33Based on today, we are going to vote for...

0:29:40 > 0:29:42- ALL: New Zealand. JOSH:- UK.

0:29:42 > 0:29:44- Josh!- Oh, Josh!

0:29:44 > 0:29:47- Why?- You surprise me.

0:29:47 > 0:29:49- Go on, why?- Go on, then.

0:29:49 > 0:29:51Cos there's not enough...

0:29:51 > 0:29:53video games.

0:29:53 > 0:29:55There is video games.

0:29:55 > 0:29:58The outside lifestyle, there isn't enough video games, yeah.

0:29:58 > 0:30:01- You've enjoyed yourself, haven't you? - But that was one thing.

0:30:01 > 0:30:04- But we could do that all the time. - That's the whole point of today.

0:30:04 > 0:30:07With Josh proving a tough nut to crack, Judy has her work cut out

0:30:07 > 0:30:11if she's going to convince him to make the move.

0:30:17 > 0:30:19Josh remains the biggest sticking point to Judy's dream.

0:30:19 > 0:30:23Knowing his passion for football, she's keen to show him

0:30:23 > 0:30:26what's on offer in New Zealand, so we've arranged for him

0:30:26 > 0:30:27to train with a local team.

0:30:27 > 0:30:29While he enjoys a kick about,

0:30:29 > 0:30:33Judy and Chris check out his options with the coach.

0:30:33 > 0:30:35What kind of opportunities would there be for Josh

0:30:35 > 0:30:37to actually start getting into football here.

0:30:37 > 0:30:39Well, at this time of year, at the moment,

0:30:39 > 0:30:41they're just starting their full season,

0:30:41 > 0:30:44so there are plenty of clubs, especially around Auckland,

0:30:44 > 0:30:48where Josh would be able to - he's good enough to join.

0:30:48 > 0:30:51So, he's good enough to play in one of the stronger teams there,

0:30:51 > 0:30:53in what they call, like, a Metro League.

0:30:53 > 0:30:55From what we saw today, he did very well.

0:31:00 > 0:31:02This could be exactly what Josh needs to hear,

0:31:02 > 0:31:06but has today been enough to make him consider a new life down under?

0:31:07 > 0:31:10Uh, yeah, it was good.

0:31:10 > 0:31:12Uh, kind of different training.

0:31:12 > 0:31:14Erm...

0:31:14 > 0:31:15Yeah.

0:31:15 > 0:31:19Hmm, he's not giving much away.

0:31:19 > 0:31:20Josh will...

0:31:20 > 0:31:23You know, apprehension at the outset, then he'll go into

0:31:23 > 0:31:26the football world and get into his zone and he'll thoroughly enjoy it.

0:31:26 > 0:31:29Then he'll finish and then, typical teenager,

0:31:29 > 0:31:31he won't admit he enjoyed it.

0:31:31 > 0:31:33He'll say, "Yeah, it's all right, yeah, fine."

0:31:33 > 0:31:35But you can tell. Like yesterday,

0:31:35 > 0:31:37he had a whale of a time yesterday and then decided

0:31:37 > 0:31:41to do the purposeful controversial vote, so, yeah.

0:31:41 > 0:31:43Ah, it's just teenagers. Kids, huh?

0:31:48 > 0:31:52If they're to agree on, and this time actually make,

0:31:52 > 0:31:53the move to New Zealand,

0:31:53 > 0:31:56the Randalls will need to know they can afford it.

0:31:56 > 0:32:01They believe their UK property is worth around £650,000.

0:32:01 > 0:32:05We've arranged valuations from two estate agents to find out for sure.

0:32:05 > 0:32:06Well-proportioned room.

0:32:06 > 0:32:09Lovely bay window, lets in the light.

0:32:10 > 0:32:13All the nice wood makes it nice and homely.

0:32:13 > 0:32:14Lovely gas fire.

0:32:15 > 0:32:18- RACHEL:- Oh, God, there's pictures! - ABBY:- Oh, no! No!

0:32:19 > 0:32:22Good-sized kitchen with lots of cupboards.

0:32:22 > 0:32:26The granite worktop is so nice, and the tiled flooring.

0:32:26 > 0:32:28Master bedroom.

0:32:28 > 0:32:30Reasonable size.

0:32:30 > 0:32:33Lovely thick carpets.

0:32:33 > 0:32:34But no en-suite.

0:32:36 > 0:32:38It's disappointing in a five-bedroom house.

0:32:38 > 0:32:41- Argh!- How many times have I told you we need an en-suite?

0:32:41 > 0:32:43- CHRIS:- That's fine, if he wants to make the room smaller

0:32:43 > 0:32:45by putting an en-suite in, be my guest.

0:32:45 > 0:32:47Fifth bedroom or study.

0:32:47 > 0:32:50Probably best used as a study and it's a working study,

0:32:50 > 0:32:52which is nice to see.

0:32:52 > 0:32:54And there is some clutter in this house somewhere.

0:32:54 > 0:32:56LAUGHTER

0:32:56 > 0:33:00A lovely five-bedroom detached house in a great location,

0:33:00 > 0:33:03immaculately presented throughout.

0:33:03 > 0:33:05Very impressive.

0:33:05 > 0:33:09I would have thought that the value is in the region of 650,000.

0:33:09 > 0:33:13I would suggest asking 675 to test the market.

0:33:13 > 0:33:16For a quick sale, 625.

0:33:16 > 0:33:19I'd expect it to achieve somewhere in the region

0:33:19 > 0:33:21of 630-650,

0:33:21 > 0:33:24and for a quick sale, possibly 610.

0:33:24 > 0:33:28I think we probably could get, if they sort of said test the market,

0:33:28 > 0:33:31670, we probably would get 650.

0:33:31 > 0:33:34- Yeah, so...- Or we could get more.

0:33:34 > 0:33:38- Mm.- Yeah. So, it's reasonable... - We're happy.

0:33:38 > 0:33:39- Happy with that. - It's not unexpected.

0:33:39 > 0:33:41No surprises there.

0:33:41 > 0:33:43But will things still add up when they compare

0:33:43 > 0:33:46the cost of living in New Zealand with the UK?

0:33:46 > 0:33:48First up, the weekly food shop.

0:33:48 > 0:33:50Butter croissants - twice the price.

0:33:50 > 0:33:52Well, we can give those up. There you go.

0:33:52 > 0:33:55£5.94 for Chicken Kievs,

0:33:55 > 0:33:57or 15 quid in New Zealand.

0:33:57 > 0:34:01- So there's a £9 difference. - Oh, wow! Gosh!

0:34:01 > 0:34:03Blueberries are cheaper.

0:34:03 > 0:34:06- Milkshakes are cheaper. - Milkshakes are cheaper.- 2p.

0:34:06 > 0:34:09The kids are easy! It's just us adults.

0:34:09 > 0:34:12Looks like the food bill's going to be dearer here.

0:34:12 > 0:34:15Judy may need to rethink the way she shops.

0:34:15 > 0:34:16That's £207 per month more.

0:34:16 > 0:34:18Hmm.

0:34:18 > 0:34:20I'm not shocked by this, yet.

0:34:20 > 0:34:23But then you've got all the other stuff to look at, as well,

0:34:23 > 0:34:26in terms of the cost of living, and that might be the clincher.

0:34:26 > 0:34:28The couple are basing their calculations on a mortgage

0:34:28 > 0:34:30for the dream house they fell in love with.

0:34:30 > 0:34:34So the mortgage repayment would be an extra £700.

0:34:34 > 0:34:36- 709.- £709 a month.

0:34:36 > 0:34:39That's a big difference.

0:34:39 > 0:34:42But will cheaper utility bills and general outgoings

0:34:42 > 0:34:44be enough to put their finances back in the black?

0:34:44 > 0:34:49So, that's £344.70 a month...

0:34:51 > 0:34:55..worse off in New Zealand in terms of the monthly outgoings.

0:34:55 > 0:34:58Not quite. But Chris might have the answer.

0:34:58 > 0:35:01If they move, he plans to work as a freelance consultant,

0:35:01 > 0:35:04which could see him earning slightly more.

0:35:04 > 0:35:05That's...

0:35:07 > 0:35:11£316 better off.

0:35:11 > 0:35:13Oh, really? Freelance here?

0:35:13 > 0:35:15- Yes.- Oh, right. OK.

0:35:15 > 0:35:18So, if you take the £316 off of that...

0:35:18 > 0:35:22we're £28 worse off, £28.70 worse off.

0:35:22 > 0:35:24- That's with a big house? - Yes.

0:35:24 > 0:35:25SHE GASPS

0:35:25 > 0:35:27Gosh.

0:35:27 > 0:35:30Even if they push the boat out and go for their dream house,

0:35:30 > 0:35:32the move won't break the bank.

0:35:32 > 0:35:33So, based on the finances,

0:35:33 > 0:35:36will the Randalls choose the UK or New Zealand?

0:35:36 > 0:35:38Having gone through all the facts and figures,

0:35:38 > 0:35:40we have decided to vote for...

0:35:46 > 0:35:47BOTH: New Zealand.

0:35:48 > 0:35:50SHE LAUGHS Really?

0:35:50 > 0:35:51Yeah, really.

0:35:51 > 0:35:54- Well, the figures stack up, don't they?- Mmm.

0:35:54 > 0:35:56So we're a few quid better off.

0:35:56 > 0:35:58Yeah.

0:35:58 > 0:36:01- Sorted.- Good.- Oh, and the kids of course, but, you know.

0:36:01 > 0:36:03The kids, yeah, just a minor thing, isn't it?

0:36:03 > 0:36:05- We'll leave them behind. - SHE LAUGHS

0:36:05 > 0:36:06Oh, that's lovely. Well done.

0:36:12 > 0:36:15Another vote for New Zealand means Judy's dream is a step closer,

0:36:15 > 0:36:18but she's been here before.

0:36:18 > 0:36:20Last time the Randalls considered emigrating

0:36:20 > 0:36:22it was her worries about leaving loved ones

0:36:22 > 0:36:25that caused her to abandon their plans.

0:36:25 > 0:36:28As everyone agrees to watch messages from family and friends,

0:36:28 > 0:36:30will history repeat itself?

0:36:30 > 0:36:31Hi, everybody!

0:36:31 > 0:36:32Hope you're having a good time.

0:36:32 > 0:36:34Hi, everyone.

0:36:34 > 0:36:36Hope you're having fun in New Zealand.

0:36:36 > 0:36:38- BOTH:- Hi!

0:36:38 > 0:36:40Hope you're all right and having a nice time.

0:36:40 > 0:36:42Everyone loves Abby.

0:36:42 > 0:36:45She's the main character of the family.

0:36:45 > 0:36:47Well, Josh likes his football.

0:36:47 > 0:36:48Er...

0:36:48 > 0:36:50He's always on the PlayStation a lot,

0:36:50 > 0:36:53so, yeah, that's his main hobby in his spare time.

0:36:53 > 0:36:58- Rachel is beautiful.- Gorgeous.

0:36:58 > 0:37:01She is very intelligent, as well.

0:37:01 > 0:37:05Chris is...a one-off.

0:37:05 > 0:37:06LAUGHTER

0:37:06 > 0:37:07He is...

0:37:08 > 0:37:12He's a great guy, but he can be really miserable and grumpy.

0:37:12 > 0:37:15He's a really nice, um, a really nice parent,

0:37:15 > 0:37:18and he looks out for everyone.

0:37:18 > 0:37:21He's, yeah, a good dad to everyone, really.

0:37:21 > 0:37:25Er, he's always been there for me...

0:37:25 > 0:37:28erm, and he's a great brother. He's the best brother.

0:37:28 > 0:37:31If they do actually go out there, I'll really miss them all.

0:37:31 > 0:37:34Even though I could speak to them on the internet and stuff

0:37:34 > 0:37:37it won't be the same as seeing them and being with them.

0:37:37 > 0:37:39Yeah.

0:37:39 > 0:37:42- I will miss them if they go.- Mmm.

0:37:42 > 0:37:45You know, them just being around, really.

0:37:45 > 0:37:48You know, the Christmases we have together and stuff like that,

0:37:48 > 0:37:50and sort of Nanny and everything.

0:37:50 > 0:37:52So, yeah, no, it will be hard if they go, we will miss them.

0:37:55 > 0:37:57It's your choice.

0:37:57 > 0:38:01You must do what is right for you and your family.

0:38:01 > 0:38:06But, from my point of view, I don't want you to go,

0:38:06 > 0:38:08because you are my family,

0:38:08 > 0:38:10and you're all I have.

0:38:15 > 0:38:18My sister, she lost her husband less than a year ago,

0:38:18 > 0:38:22so, as she says, we're all she's got, so, um...

0:38:22 > 0:38:26Well, we're all she's got in terms of, er, blood.

0:38:33 > 0:38:36Watching messages from loved ones they'd have to leave behind

0:38:36 > 0:38:38was never going to be easy,

0:38:38 > 0:38:41but, as the final decision draws near,

0:38:41 > 0:38:43will hearing how much they'd be missed

0:38:43 > 0:38:46have put an end to Judy's dream?

0:38:46 > 0:38:49The Randalls' return trip to New Zealand has given Judy

0:38:49 > 0:38:53a chance at persuading her family to make the move all over again.

0:38:53 > 0:38:57A glimpse inside the local property market got everyone excited.

0:38:57 > 0:39:00Oh, my God!

0:39:01 > 0:39:04This would swing it for me. It really would.

0:39:04 > 0:39:08Chris' fears about finding work in New Zealand were laid to rest

0:39:08 > 0:39:11when he received some good news on the job front.

0:39:11 > 0:39:15You would absolutely be able to secure a role in New Zealand.

0:39:15 > 0:39:18The family's day experiencing the Kiwi lifestyle

0:39:18 > 0:39:21led to a potential new hobby for everyone.

0:39:21 > 0:39:22It was well fun.

0:39:22 > 0:39:24- We enjoyed a lot, didn't we? - It was fun.

0:39:24 > 0:39:27Yeah, it was pretty awesome, actually.

0:39:27 > 0:39:29But joining a training session with the local club

0:39:29 > 0:39:33left football-mad Josh decidedly unimpressed.

0:39:33 > 0:39:35Uh, kind of different training.

0:39:35 > 0:39:38Erm...

0:39:38 > 0:39:39Yeah.

0:39:40 > 0:39:43So, has their week in New Zealand been enough to convince Chris

0:39:43 > 0:39:46and Josh to choose a new life down under?

0:39:47 > 0:39:51For three years, Judy has lived with the regret of pulling the plug

0:39:51 > 0:39:53on her family's original plans to emigrate.

0:39:53 > 0:39:56This time I don't think that would happen,

0:39:56 > 0:40:00because we know an awful lot more, and we've been much more sure

0:40:00 > 0:40:03of actually taking the plunge.

0:40:03 > 0:40:06Judy's oldest daughter, Rachel, was devastated

0:40:06 > 0:40:09when the move didn't happen first time round.

0:40:09 > 0:40:12My week has been brilliant.

0:40:12 > 0:40:13Loved every bit of it.

0:40:13 > 0:40:17I love New Zealand, so... It's pretty brilliant, I love it.

0:40:19 > 0:40:20She was so hurt last time,

0:40:20 > 0:40:24I didn't realise quite how much she was hurt last time

0:40:24 > 0:40:27cos she's very accepting. Rachel's such a nice kid.

0:40:27 > 0:40:30But has the week worked out as well for Abby?

0:40:30 > 0:40:33It's been really interesting and fun, because we've done

0:40:33 > 0:40:36many different activities that we don't do in the UK.

0:40:39 > 0:40:41Abby loves beaches, yeah.

0:40:41 > 0:40:45Sand, beach, sea, she will spend hours.

0:40:46 > 0:40:48But Judy's biggest hurdle has always been

0:40:48 > 0:40:51persuading the men in the family,

0:40:51 > 0:40:55with both Josh and Chris dead set against leaving the UK.

0:40:55 > 0:41:00I've changed my mind a little bit, but, er...

0:41:00 > 0:41:02not fully, to be honest.

0:41:05 > 0:41:07He's sort of coming round to it, but he will never say,

0:41:07 > 0:41:11"Yeah, I want to move," ever. Ever.

0:41:11 > 0:41:14He might say in ten years' time, if we've been here for that long,

0:41:14 > 0:41:16"Oh, I'm glad you did it,"

0:41:16 > 0:41:19but he'll never say, "Yes, I want to go."

0:41:19 > 0:41:23It's been a make or break week for Judy, as she's tried to persuade

0:41:23 > 0:41:26Chris a life down under is best for their family.

0:41:26 > 0:41:30Having seen the houses, having done the lifestyle day

0:41:30 > 0:41:33and, literally, being back here, as well,

0:41:33 > 0:41:36in a, sort of, like, busy-but-chilled environment,

0:41:36 > 0:41:40um, I'm as surprised as anybody about how I feel about it all.

0:41:44 > 0:41:47Fingers crossed. It may happen.

0:41:48 > 0:41:51Now with their week almost up, it's time for the Randalls

0:41:51 > 0:41:53to choose once and for all -

0:41:53 > 0:41:56a life in New Zealand, or the UK?

0:41:56 > 0:41:58We've had an interesting week,

0:41:58 > 0:42:00and, based on what we've done, we vote for...

0:42:12 > 0:42:14- ALL: New Zealand. JOSH:- UK.

0:42:15 > 0:42:18Oh, Abby, you did New Zealand.

0:42:18 > 0:42:19Oh, Josh!

0:42:19 > 0:42:22- You're so surprising, Josh! - Oh, what a surprise!- I knew it.

0:42:22 > 0:42:25- Ho-hum. - Oh, Dad did New Zealand, as well.

0:42:25 > 0:42:28- Mmm.- I wasn't sure on you. - Not sure with me?

0:42:28 > 0:42:30No, not at the last minute.

0:42:30 > 0:42:33I thought maybe, er, Pam had upset it

0:42:33 > 0:42:36and, sort of, you'd go like that...

0:42:36 > 0:42:37Really?

0:42:39 > 0:42:43OK, that's cool. Oh, Josh!

0:42:43 > 0:42:44Mr Controversial.

0:42:44 > 0:42:49I vote UK because, erm, the football isn't as good out here

0:42:49 > 0:42:52and that's the most important thing to me.

0:43:02 > 0:43:06It looks like it could be second time around for the Randalls,

0:43:06 > 0:43:09with Judy and Chris finally on the same page.

0:43:09 > 0:43:12And, if they can win Josh over, who knows?

0:43:12 > 0:43:15Soon they could all be on their way to New Zealand.
