0:00:02 > 0:00:03Moving your family

0:00:03 > 0:00:06halfway around the world is a huge

0:00:06 > 0:00:07challenge at the best of times,

0:00:07 > 0:00:09but imagine trying to make it happen

0:00:09 > 0:00:13when those closest to you don't share your dream.

0:00:13 > 0:00:16Christine Makuve wants to swap this...

0:00:16 > 0:00:17for this.

0:00:17 > 0:00:21- My gosh! Look at that! - But her children don't agree.

0:00:21 > 0:00:24There's like not anything that would make me be like,

0:00:24 > 0:00:26"Yes, I really want to move there."

0:00:26 > 0:00:30- And when they fall in love with everything Australia offers.- Wow!

0:00:30 > 0:00:34- It's got its own lake in the back!- Is this part of the house?

0:00:34 > 0:00:36- Yeah!- I want this house.

0:00:36 > 0:00:40Will they have the finances to make the dream come true?

0:00:40 > 0:00:42I almost feel like, "OK, well, whatever." You know?

0:00:42 > 0:00:45It was a good dream to have, but it's not going to happen.

0:01:08 > 0:01:12For 25 years, Australia has been the number one

0:01:12 > 0:01:15destination for Brits seeking a new life abroad.

0:01:15 > 0:01:19The outdoors lifestyle, sunshine and sense of space are a huge draw,

0:01:19 > 0:01:22but, on average, 11,000 of them

0:01:22 > 0:01:25move back every year with their dreams in tatters.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31The Makuves are in a heartbreaking situation.

0:01:32 > 0:01:36Mum Christine is convinced Australia can offer her family

0:01:36 > 0:01:39the fresh start she believes they so desperately need,

0:01:39 > 0:01:44but her children don't share her dream, and she faces an uphill battle

0:01:44 > 0:01:47to convince them that moving down under can really offer them

0:01:47 > 0:01:49a better life together.

0:01:51 > 0:01:55The journey to Australia takes them 10,000 miles from home.

0:01:55 > 0:01:59As the Makuves arrive in Brisbane, 24 hours in the air has given

0:01:59 > 0:02:04them plenty of time to contemplate the enormity of Christine's plans.

0:02:04 > 0:02:08- It's a demanding journey. - It took a long time on the plane.

0:02:08 > 0:02:09The journey was incredibly long

0:02:09 > 0:02:12and I find myself thinking about my mum, for instance,

0:02:12 > 0:02:14and how she would cope with a journey like that

0:02:14 > 0:02:18and she would find it very, very difficult to actually do.

0:02:18 > 0:02:22I think I've properly got the sense of how far away Australia is

0:02:22 > 0:02:23just over the last 24 hours.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27The pressure's on for Christine.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30She has just one week to persuade her family Australia is

0:02:30 > 0:02:32where their future lies.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37The Makuve family are mum Christine,

0:02:37 > 0:02:44dad Munya, Vanessa, who's 14, PJ, who's 12, and Tin Tin, age 8.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47They live in Garrison in North Yorkshire.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50Originally from Zimbabwe, Christine and Munya would love

0:02:50 > 0:02:53the outdoor upbringing they enjoyed for their own children.

0:02:53 > 0:02:59We grew up in the incredibly idyllic, you know,

0:02:59 > 0:03:04post-independence years, um, you know, and it was beautiful.

0:03:04 > 0:03:08We both grew up in houses where there were orange trees, mango trees,

0:03:08 > 0:03:10banana trees...

0:03:10 > 0:03:14They fear at the moment that their children are missing out.

0:03:14 > 0:03:20We have lovely kids, full of energy, but they spend their lives indoors.

0:03:20 > 0:03:24And they both believe Australia could offer Vanessa, PJ

0:03:24 > 0:03:28and Tin Tin the childhood they so badly want for them.

0:03:28 > 0:03:32I would love to imagine that my family and myself could

0:03:32 > 0:03:36make a new life for ourselves, you know, make new lives for ourselves in Australia.

0:03:36 > 0:03:40What we are hoping for, um,

0:03:40 > 0:03:43is recreating the life that we had, um,

0:03:43 > 0:03:48- in a setting and a context that the children can relate to.- Yeah.

0:03:48 > 0:03:52Christine's convinced now is the time to make the move.

0:03:52 > 0:03:54She's aiming towards it, she's working towards it,

0:03:54 > 0:03:56she's planning towards it, she's dreaming about it.

0:03:56 > 0:03:58It means everything to her.

0:03:58 > 0:04:02Last year, army officer Munya was faced with the threat of redundancy.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04Although I wasn't made redundant,

0:04:04 > 0:04:08that started to, you know, plant the seed that anything is possible,

0:04:08 > 0:04:12and that speeded up Christine's urgency to go to Australia now.

0:04:12 > 0:04:14And worse was to come

0:04:14 > 0:04:17when he was struck down with a life-threatening illness.

0:04:17 > 0:04:19It was incredibly traumatic.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22Um, and I was faced with the first time...

0:04:23 > 0:04:26..um, with the prospect that...

0:04:26 > 0:04:27Munya might not...

0:04:29 > 0:04:33..might not be with me until my old age,

0:04:33 > 0:04:36so that was incredibly difficult.

0:04:38 > 0:04:42But I think one of the key things that both of us

0:04:42 > 0:04:46took away from that, if you've got a dream, you know, try and pursue it.

0:04:46 > 0:04:48Munya can see the benefits of a move,

0:04:48 > 0:04:52but feels emigrating now would be a big mistake.

0:04:52 > 0:04:54In five years' time, I reach my pension point.

0:04:54 > 0:04:58I would really have to receive a very good opportunity,

0:04:58 > 0:05:00a very good offer in Australia...

0:05:00 > 0:05:04- In order to leave five years before retirement.- It is a big sacrifice.

0:05:04 > 0:05:07In my mind, especially given what's gone on in the last 12 months,

0:05:07 > 0:05:10five years is a long time and anything could happen.

0:05:10 > 0:05:13It creates a very difficult tension there.

0:05:13 > 0:05:18As an army family, the children have experienced a lot of disruption,

0:05:18 > 0:05:20and fed up with moving every two years,

0:05:20 > 0:05:23Vanessa and PJ opted for boarding school.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26But Christine wants her children close again.

0:05:26 > 0:05:28Australia would allow us, you know,

0:05:28 > 0:05:31finally to have stability as a family.

0:05:31 > 0:05:35We would get the chance to see our children growing up within

0:05:35 > 0:05:37the household, rather than having them at boarding school

0:05:37 > 0:05:41for most of the year and having them just on holidays.

0:05:41 > 0:05:45But plans to emigrate have had a mixed response from the children.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48When Mummy first mentioned the idea of moving to Australia,

0:05:48 > 0:05:52she was not a very popular person in the house.

0:05:52 > 0:05:57Tin Tin, the little 'un, is eight years old, um, he took it fine.

0:05:57 > 0:06:02Tin Tin's ready to go, but Vanessa and PJ are happy at home.

0:06:02 > 0:06:04I don't really want to live in Australia.

0:06:04 > 0:06:06I really want to just stay here.

0:06:06 > 0:06:09For me, there's not anything that would make me be like,

0:06:09 > 0:06:11"Yes, I really want to move there."

0:06:15 > 0:06:19And leaving family and friends would be a massive wrench.

0:06:19 > 0:06:21We see our family like all the time, like,

0:06:21 > 0:06:24every week we always see them and we're really close to them,

0:06:24 > 0:06:28and it would be really hard to leave them behind and just to move.

0:06:28 > 0:06:32Christine knows the family's week ahead will either see her dream

0:06:32 > 0:06:37come one step closer to reality, or possibly disappear for good.

0:06:37 > 0:06:39This week is incredibly important,

0:06:39 > 0:06:42because it gives me the opportunity, firstly,

0:06:42 > 0:06:45to actually experience Australia first-hand,

0:06:45 > 0:06:50which I haven't done, and also gives me an opportunity to be able to

0:06:50 > 0:06:53hopefully persuade my family that this is the place to be.

0:06:54 > 0:06:58The Makuves are facing a huge emotional dilemma.

0:06:59 > 0:07:03For Munya, finding the perfect job will be key if Christine's ever to

0:07:03 > 0:07:06persuade him that now is the right time to follow

0:07:06 > 0:07:07her dream of a better future.

0:07:16 > 0:07:20The family are spending their trial week on the Gold Coast.

0:07:20 > 0:07:24They'll be staying in the Logan area, 30 minutes from Brisbane city

0:07:24 > 0:07:27and 35 minutes from the beach, it's ideally placed.

0:07:29 > 0:07:31And with almost 900 parks and reserves,

0:07:31 > 0:07:35it should appeal to the Makuves' love of the outdoors.

0:07:35 > 0:07:38Their base for the week will be this three-bedroom house.

0:07:38 > 0:07:42It's the family's first taste of the life they could have.

0:07:42 > 0:07:47- Oh, my gosh!- Wow! It's got a pool! - Look at that pool.

0:07:47 > 0:07:51This is absolutely fabulous.

0:07:51 > 0:07:54Can you see that, PJ? Will you look at the views!

0:07:54 > 0:07:56- This is breathtaking, isn't it?- Wow, yeah.

0:07:57 > 0:07:59The location seems to be a hit

0:07:59 > 0:08:02and everyone's pleased with the interiors as well.

0:08:03 > 0:08:06Wow. OK.

0:08:06 > 0:08:09- Whoa!- It feels very roomy.

0:08:09 > 0:08:11It's got all the lounging space outside

0:08:11 > 0:08:16and then it's got the pool and I just like it. I just really like it.

0:08:16 > 0:08:19That's a good initial reaction from Vanessa

0:08:19 > 0:08:23and the house is pushing the right buttons for the boys too.

0:08:23 > 0:08:30- Cool! No way!- Oh, my gosh! That is the coolest thing ever!

0:08:30 > 0:08:33It's a good-sized double bedroom, isn't it? Oh, do you know what...?

0:08:33 > 0:08:37- I think this one is my room! - Really?!- Yeah!

0:08:37 > 0:08:40You might have to do a little bit of haggling.

0:08:41 > 0:08:43- That's a nice view.- Wow.

0:08:43 > 0:08:46- Oh, gosh! It's really large in here! - Yeah.- Two great big showerheads.

0:08:46 > 0:08:48- Wow.- No, this is awesome.

0:08:48 > 0:08:51Their home for the week is going down well with everyone, and it looks

0:08:51 > 0:08:56like Munya's already beginning to see the appeal of a life down under.

0:08:56 > 0:09:00I think I'd be ready and willing to work hard to attain

0:09:00 > 0:09:02a house like this and buy a house like this.

0:09:02 > 0:09:05Even Vanessa could be coming round.

0:09:05 > 0:09:09I would consider, like, think about moving here. Think about it.

0:09:09 > 0:09:16I really like this house. And I like swimming and there's a pool.

0:09:16 > 0:09:19I think it's going to be a hugely successful week

0:09:19 > 0:09:23because we've barely started the week and, you know, I've already

0:09:23 > 0:09:26scored a success with the most negative member of the family.

0:09:26 > 0:09:29Let's hope it continues, Christine!

0:09:33 > 0:09:36Because Munya works for the military in the UK,

0:09:36 > 0:09:38the Makuves live in army accommodation.

0:09:38 > 0:09:41So, buying a house down under would be their first

0:09:41 > 0:09:42permanent property.

0:09:42 > 0:09:46I would love open plan, you know, the kind of typical sprawling open plan

0:09:46 > 0:09:53Aussie type house, and a pool would be...you know, almost an essential.

0:09:53 > 0:09:55Um, and a garden for the children to play in.

0:09:55 > 0:09:58We're looking at a budget of about £350,000.

0:09:58 > 0:10:03We do want something that has enough space to, you know, at least

0:10:03 > 0:10:08plant fruit trees and create a lovely garden in our outside space.

0:10:08 > 0:10:11We have a vision in our minds about how our lives would be there

0:10:11 > 0:10:14and how our children's lives would be,

0:10:14 > 0:10:18and if we could not give them a home that they would be happy to

0:10:18 > 0:10:20live in, there'd be no point in removing them, really.

0:10:20 > 0:10:24So, it would be absolutely key, um, finding the right house.

0:10:26 > 0:10:28To give the Makuves an idea of what's available

0:10:28 > 0:10:32on the Gold Coast property market, we've selected three properties.

0:10:32 > 0:10:36After seeing them, they'll find out how much each one costs.

0:10:37 > 0:10:39The first house is in Beechmont,

0:10:39 > 0:10:43a residential village in the Gold Coast hinterland.

0:10:43 > 0:10:45Although it's a 45-minute drive to the nearest beach,

0:10:45 > 0:10:48the area offers stunning landscapes.

0:10:49 > 0:10:54This four-bedroom home could be just what the Makuves are looking for.

0:10:55 > 0:10:58Come here and look at this house.

0:10:58 > 0:11:01Look at this house! Oh, my gosh! It's beautiful.

0:11:01 > 0:11:04But will the indoors impress?

0:11:04 > 0:11:05This is a small...

0:11:06 > 0:11:08- Yeah.- ..small lounge.

0:11:08 > 0:11:11PJ's definitely not sold...

0:11:11 > 0:11:13I prefer more modern properties

0:11:13 > 0:11:16and I think it's just a bit too old-fashioned and small.

0:11:16 > 0:11:18Vanessa's underwhelmed...

0:11:18 > 0:11:20It's all right, it's just a little bit cramped.

0:11:20 > 0:11:26- ..and even Christine's bubble is burst.- I'm losing, um...

0:11:26 > 0:11:30momentum in terms of my excitement. It's actually quite small.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33- This is the kitchen...- OK.

0:11:33 > 0:11:35..I take it.

0:11:35 > 0:11:39- Yeah.- This is really old. - It's small.

0:11:39 > 0:11:44I think it confirms to me that the house, generally, is a tiny house.

0:11:44 > 0:11:47But things soon take a turn for the better.

0:11:47 > 0:11:54- Oh...my...goodness...gracious...me! - This is beautiful.- This is unusual!

0:11:54 > 0:11:56SHE LAUGHS

0:11:56 > 0:11:58What's...what's...?

0:11:58 > 0:12:00- It's like a little sun lounge. - This is a lovely room.

0:12:00 > 0:12:02- This is a beautiful room. - I think it's a lovely room.

0:12:02 > 0:12:05It's a room that I can imagine doing a lot with.

0:12:05 > 0:12:09This hasn't completely won me over, but it's certainly a very,

0:12:09 > 0:12:11very positive aspect of this house.

0:12:12 > 0:12:15And outdoors lifts everyone's spirits.

0:12:15 > 0:12:18- Oh, my gosh!- Now, this is gorgeous. - Oh, now, this is beautiful.

0:12:18 > 0:12:21It sort of makes me want to write poetry or something.

0:12:21 > 0:12:23THEY LAUGH It's just...!

0:12:23 > 0:12:27This could not be further removed from most of life in the UK.

0:12:27 > 0:12:33- Oh, my goodness!- You guys, look at that.- Oh, my gosh! Look at that!

0:12:33 > 0:12:37- Munya, can you imagine this as your back yard?- I feel like sitting down.

0:12:37 > 0:12:39- Yeah, let's sit down.- Oh, my gosh!

0:12:39 > 0:12:42The garden's everything Christine could wish for.

0:12:42 > 0:12:44It just reminds me, you know, of home

0:12:44 > 0:12:49and of growing up back in Zimbabwe, but, I don't know, I'm speechless.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51If they came to visit, everyone would love this.

0:12:51 > 0:12:53Everybody would fall in love with this.

0:12:53 > 0:12:54The house's location

0:12:54 > 0:12:58and spectacular garden has made up for its old-fashioned feel

0:12:58 > 0:13:03and lack of space, but with the budget of £350,000,

0:13:03 > 0:13:05can the Makuves afford it?

0:13:06 > 0:13:09- Do you want to turn it over? - Tin Tin, let's see.

0:13:12 > 0:13:15Oh, my gosh!

0:13:15 > 0:13:17SHE LAUGHS

0:13:17 > 0:13:21That's £55,000 under budget.

0:13:21 > 0:13:24- That's just ludicrous.- Wow.

0:13:24 > 0:13:27That is well under budget.

0:13:27 > 0:13:32That changes absolutely everything, because, if we did buy this,

0:13:32 > 0:13:35we could very easily reconfigure...

0:13:35 > 0:13:40- the house, and spruce it up.- It still would need some consideration.- Yes.

0:13:40 > 0:13:43Knowing this property is within reach is a fantastic start

0:13:43 > 0:13:48for Christine. Property two is just outside Upper Coomera.

0:13:48 > 0:13:51Riverstone Crossing's a thriving new community.

0:13:51 > 0:13:54It's close to a major motorway for easy access to Brisbane

0:13:54 > 0:13:58and Surfers Paradise, and has national parks on its doorstep.

0:13:58 > 0:14:01This modern four-bedroom show house could offer

0:14:01 > 0:14:03the family their perfect setting.

0:14:03 > 0:14:08Oh...my...goodness...gracious...me.

0:14:08 > 0:14:10- Whoa.- Oh, my gosh!

0:14:13 > 0:14:19This is just...this is just stunning! This is just...this is fantastic!

0:14:19 > 0:14:25- The open plan-ness of it, the size of it...- I absolutely love it. Amazing.

0:14:25 > 0:14:27I just love it! This is just...

0:14:27 > 0:14:31- This is it.- This is it, yes. THEY LAUGH

0:14:31 > 0:14:33Even PJ's impressed.

0:14:33 > 0:14:37It looks really modern and I just really like the house,

0:14:37 > 0:14:40because of how big it is and there's a lot of space.

0:14:40 > 0:14:45They're so enthralled, Christine's started making plans.

0:14:45 > 0:14:50- Wow, Christine, look at that.- Oh! This is absolutely beautiful.- Yeah.

0:14:50 > 0:14:53But this, for me, would be the dining room.

0:14:53 > 0:14:56But what about that all-important outside space?

0:14:57 > 0:15:00OK, so the outside...

0:15:00 > 0:15:03- very nice, very small. - It's pleasant.- It's pleasant enough.

0:15:03 > 0:15:06- It's pleasant.- It's very small. - It's compact.

0:15:06 > 0:15:12OK, the garden's not enormous. Maybe the bedrooms will impress.

0:15:13 > 0:15:17- This is huge.- Awesome. Really good. - Absolutely fabulous.

0:15:17 > 0:15:21- Before you even speak, you want to see the en suite.- Really?

0:15:22 > 0:15:24SHE GASPS

0:15:24 > 0:15:25Oh, my gosh!

0:15:25 > 0:15:28Oh, my gosh!

0:15:28 > 0:15:29Wow.

0:15:31 > 0:15:34It's just crazily big.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37There's a balcony outside as well, I mean, it just gets better

0:15:37 > 0:15:41and better with this bedroom. This is just fabulous.

0:15:41 > 0:15:44I think this house is doing it for us.

0:15:44 > 0:15:45HE LAUGHS

0:15:45 > 0:15:46This house is certainly...

0:15:46 > 0:15:48The outdoor space might be limited,

0:15:48 > 0:15:50but this house has everything else the Makuves

0:15:50 > 0:15:52have been dreaming of,

0:15:52 > 0:15:57but Munya's worried it will be beyond their £350,000 budget.

0:15:57 > 0:15:59My heart is in my mouth at the moment

0:15:59 > 0:16:03and I'm hoping that this house is somewhere close to...

0:16:03 > 0:16:05what we're expecting.

0:16:05 > 0:16:06I think it's going to be over.

0:16:06 > 0:16:10- Do you think it's going to be over? I agree, Tin Tin.- Ready?

0:16:10 > 0:16:12Vanessa, do you want to do the honours?

0:16:15 > 0:16:16Wow.

0:16:16 > 0:16:17It's just over budget,

0:16:17 > 0:16:20but if Christine and Munya were to increase their earnings

0:16:20 > 0:16:23in Australia, this house could be affordable.

0:16:23 > 0:16:27I thought it was going to be significantly over £400,000.

0:16:27 > 0:16:29That is just really food for thought.

0:16:29 > 0:16:32If we could build this property in a different place where there's

0:16:32 > 0:16:34- land, that would be the perfect solution for us.- Yeah.

0:16:34 > 0:16:39Plenty of outdoor space remains high on Christine and Munya's wish list,

0:16:39 > 0:16:42so property three should fit the bill.

0:16:42 > 0:16:45Set within its own two and a half acres, this four-bedroom,

0:16:45 > 0:16:49two-bathroom family home is full of surprises.

0:16:49 > 0:16:51- I think...- It, it, it...

0:16:51 > 0:16:54- It's attached to this.- It looks like it's on the land of the house.

0:16:54 > 0:16:55- It's got a tennis court! - It's on the land.

0:16:55 > 0:16:58It's got its own tennis court, Tin Tin. What do you think?

0:16:58 > 0:17:02- It's too good for words. - It's too good for words.

0:17:02 > 0:17:04First impression - absolutely awesome.

0:17:04 > 0:17:07Yeah, absolutely stunning and we've not even been inside.

0:17:07 > 0:17:10To be honest, I'm not feeling too much pressure to go inside cos

0:17:10 > 0:17:13I love it that much on the outside!

0:17:13 > 0:17:17It can't get better than that...can it?

0:17:17 > 0:17:18Ooh!

0:17:18 > 0:17:23- Oh, I say!- Wow.- No, this is good.

0:17:23 > 0:17:26This is not good. This is fabulous.

0:17:26 > 0:17:29- The design is obviously well thought out.- Yeah.

0:17:29 > 0:17:32Double bedroom, good-sized bedroom.

0:17:32 > 0:17:35It's a nice room and you can have a nice view of the outside.

0:17:35 > 0:17:38But not everyone's completely convinced.

0:17:38 > 0:17:41It's a nice house and I...

0:17:41 > 0:17:47couldn't really imagine myself living here, but it is spacious.

0:17:47 > 0:17:50This is my room and it feels like my room already,

0:17:50 > 0:17:53- and I've not even moved in. - Oh, Chris, come and see this.

0:17:53 > 0:17:57- The en suite is amazing. - Oh, my gosh! Oh, my gosh!

0:17:57 > 0:17:59(It's a spa bath, Munya!)

0:17:59 > 0:18:02I would get in there and never get out, honestly.

0:18:02 > 0:18:06But then you'd miss what's waiting outside, Christine.

0:18:06 > 0:18:08Whoa! Look at what I've just found. Come on.

0:18:08 > 0:18:10You guys have got to see this.

0:18:10 > 0:18:13Oh...my...goodness!

0:18:13 > 0:18:15- Whoa! - SHE LAUGHS

0:18:15 > 0:18:20- It's got its own lake in the back! - Is this part of the house?- Yeah!

0:18:20 > 0:18:23And PJ could be turning.

0:18:23 > 0:18:26It kind of does change my opinion about the house cos

0:18:26 > 0:18:29the outside is, like, it's really, really,

0:18:29 > 0:18:34really big and spacious and it has its own pond, so...

0:18:34 > 0:18:36it would kind of make me want to live here.

0:18:41 > 0:18:44This property's a dream come true for Christine,

0:18:44 > 0:18:47and she's carried away with excitement.

0:18:47 > 0:18:50- We could get ducks!- We could put ducks in there.- We could get ducks!

0:18:50 > 0:18:52It's like being in a storybook.

0:18:52 > 0:18:58I would never have imagined in my wildest dreams that, you know,

0:18:58 > 0:19:02a house like this would be anything that we would ever...

0:19:02 > 0:19:05- consider as being a possibility. - The question is...- How much?

0:19:07 > 0:19:11This house has it all, but can they afford to call it home?

0:19:11 > 0:19:15What is the price going to be?

0:19:15 > 0:19:19I've really connected with this house and it's...it's beautiful, and

0:19:19 > 0:19:22I'm terrified that it's going to be completely over budget

0:19:22 > 0:19:26and, you know, our dreams are going to be cruelly dashed to the ground.

0:19:26 > 0:19:28- Shall we find out? - SHE LAUGHS

0:19:34 > 0:19:36PJ, let's go for it.

0:19:38 > 0:19:43That's £56,000 over, but, if they stretch their budget,

0:19:43 > 0:19:44could it still be within reach?

0:19:44 > 0:19:47- I don't want to look.- You won't believe this. Open your eyes.

0:19:49 > 0:19:52- Really? It's over budget, but... - But...

0:19:52 > 0:19:55But not by as much as I had imagined.

0:19:55 > 0:19:58- And there's no work that needs to be done.- No!

0:19:58 > 0:20:01That's within reach, and for something like this,

0:20:01 > 0:20:04- I fully expected it to be... - I want this house.- So do I.

0:20:04 > 0:20:06I want this house.

0:20:06 > 0:20:09The dream home feels within touching distance,

0:20:09 > 0:20:12but Christine knows there's still an awful lot to do

0:20:12 > 0:20:14if she's to make her dream a reality.

0:20:14 > 0:20:18This house obviously hinges on all the job things coming together

0:20:18 > 0:20:21and so that's even more critical now.

0:20:21 > 0:20:22I want this house!

0:20:22 > 0:20:24THEY LAUGH

0:20:24 > 0:20:25I want this house.

0:20:26 > 0:20:29It's been an incredibly positive day for the Makuves.

0:20:29 > 0:20:32The first house felt a bit old-fashioned,

0:20:32 > 0:20:36but all that was forgotten when they got to the incredible views.

0:20:36 > 0:20:39They loved the open plan, contemporary feel of

0:20:39 > 0:20:43property number two, but the small garden put them off.

0:20:43 > 0:20:47Property three was the dream home, but, with a price tag to match.

0:20:48 > 0:20:51With this visits over, it's time for the family to decide.

0:20:51 > 0:20:54Will it be home or away?

0:20:54 > 0:20:59Based on the properties that we have viewed today, our vote goes to...

0:21:04 > 0:21:06ALL: Australia!

0:21:07 > 0:21:10Oh, my gosh! Is it a full house?

0:21:10 > 0:21:14Wow! I think that's quite... That's remarkable.

0:21:14 > 0:21:16Individually, the houses are really nice.

0:21:16 > 0:21:20- I would prefer to live in Australia on the basis of the houses.

0:21:20 > 0:21:25They have a lot of space and I really want to try the tennis court.

0:21:29 > 0:21:33The family's positive reaction is music to Christine's ears,

0:21:33 > 0:21:35but if the move down under is to happen,

0:21:35 > 0:21:39it's essential both she and Munya secure good jobs.

0:21:40 > 0:21:42Back home in the UK, Munya's a commissioned officer

0:21:42 > 0:21:44in the British Army.

0:21:44 > 0:21:46My job means a lot to me.

0:21:48 > 0:21:51It's everything, really. It's defined...

0:21:51 > 0:21:54It defines who I am as an individual.

0:21:54 > 0:21:58Um, it's...defined what we've become as a family.

0:21:58 > 0:22:01It's also had a huge impact on Christine's career.

0:22:01 > 0:22:05I've previously worked as a local education authority manager,

0:22:05 > 0:22:09but because of the fact that we move around so frequently,

0:22:09 > 0:22:12um, it's a very difficult sort of career to take with you.

0:22:12 > 0:22:16So, I started teaching because that's portable.

0:22:16 > 0:22:19After more than a decade in the army, Munya's unsure about

0:22:19 > 0:22:23working on Civvy Street, but he does believe his skills are transferable.

0:22:23 > 0:22:26The one thing that might, and I think that will bring me

0:22:26 > 0:22:29fulfilment, is working in a management consultancy.

0:22:29 > 0:22:35I'd want to be sure that the benefit I'd reap from that job would

0:22:35 > 0:22:37cover for what I'm sacrificing now.

0:22:37 > 0:22:40The family's whole future could rest on today

0:22:40 > 0:22:44and Christine knows there's a lot at stake as she takes Vanessa, PJ

0:22:44 > 0:22:47and Tin Tin to visit St Stephen's College.

0:22:47 > 0:22:51They're met by headmaster Jamie, and Mary, head of enrolment.

0:22:51 > 0:22:53While the children get a tour of the school,

0:22:53 > 0:22:56Christine quizzes Jamie about potential teaching jobs.

0:22:56 > 0:22:59Well, the first thing is there's a lot of schools in the Gold Coast.

0:22:59 > 0:23:02You get registered to teach and then, once you're registered to

0:23:02 > 0:23:05teach, we would then have a look at what you've done, what your

0:23:05 > 0:23:08experience has been and we'd slot you into that band and step level here.

0:23:08 > 0:23:10I see. That's excellent.

0:23:10 > 0:23:14And in terms of how those bands relate to actual salaries,

0:23:14 > 0:23:17- what is the rate?- Well, actually, I have a document here.- Oh, I see!

0:23:17 > 0:23:20- That's brilliant!- So...

0:23:20 > 0:23:23normally, you'd come in at what we call band two, step one,

0:23:23 > 0:23:27- so that's around 63,000 Australian dollars.- Right, I see. OK.

0:23:27 > 0:23:30- So, that's about, what? 40 something thousand pounds.- I see.

0:23:30 > 0:23:33That is significantly higher than what I'm currently getting

0:23:33 > 0:23:36now as a teacher with several years of experience,

0:23:36 > 0:23:39so that sounds very encouraging.

0:23:39 > 0:23:41Great news for Christine.

0:23:41 > 0:23:44Across town, Munya's exploring his potential work opportunities.

0:23:44 > 0:23:46We've arranged for him

0:23:46 > 0:23:49to meet management consultant Andrew Johnstone-Burt.

0:23:49 > 0:23:52Andrew had previously been in the Royal Navy

0:23:52 > 0:23:56- and he's impressed with Munya's CV. - You've got three Masters.

0:23:56 > 0:24:00How good is that?! Three Masters degrees!

0:24:00 > 0:24:04You clearly have this fantastic education and training background.

0:24:04 > 0:24:05Added to that is your strategic skills.

0:24:05 > 0:24:08You can clearly think strategically.

0:24:08 > 0:24:10Um, the question then is, it's a

0:24:10 > 0:24:15case of staging the transition...to this new world for you.

0:24:15 > 0:24:17Every occupation has its ladder.

0:24:17 > 0:24:20You'll be coming in in the middle of that

0:24:20 > 0:24:22ladder around the sort of manager level.

0:24:22 > 0:24:26- What are the prospects like at the moment?- Lots of prospects.

0:24:26 > 0:24:28Consulting is flourishing.

0:24:28 > 0:24:29We grew 25% last year

0:24:29 > 0:24:34and there are lots of opportunities which come with that.

0:24:34 > 0:24:37Encouraging news so far, and if the salary's right,

0:24:37 > 0:24:40it could allay Munya's fears about leaving the army early.

0:24:40 > 0:24:45At a manager level, um, sort of at the 150,000 mark,

0:24:45 > 0:24:48the senior consultant, somewhere around the 100,000 mark.

0:24:48 > 0:24:53Well, at the moment, I'm, um, just round about below £50,000, which,

0:24:53 > 0:24:57I think, translates to about 70,000,

0:24:57 > 0:25:00or 75,000 Australian dollars.

0:25:00 > 0:25:03So, that would really be good for me. That would work for me.

0:25:03 > 0:25:05That's Munya on the right track,

0:25:05 > 0:25:09but Christine has another challenge to overcome - finding a school

0:25:09 > 0:25:13they're happy with is crucial if she's to win round PJ and Vanessa.

0:25:13 > 0:25:16Hopefully, St Stephen's will impress.

0:25:16 > 0:25:19This section has been revamped recently in the last two years.

0:25:19 > 0:25:21It's absolutely beautiful.

0:25:21 > 0:25:25- Well resourced and well designed. - Hmm. Yes, it is.

0:25:25 > 0:25:26It's one of the best in Queensland.

0:25:26 > 0:25:29The children are worried about making friends.

0:25:29 > 0:25:32If the people were like...if most people who came here were

0:25:32 > 0:25:35British, then it would be a lot easier, but seeing as

0:25:35 > 0:25:38though they're Australian, it might be a bit harder to get on with them.

0:25:38 > 0:25:44Yes, predominantly Australians, but a lot of British citizens have also

0:25:44 > 0:25:48come to our school, so you'll hear and you'll see a lot of Brits here.

0:25:48 > 0:25:51You will settle reasonably fast

0:25:51 > 0:25:55and we will help you settle by providing buddies.

0:25:55 > 0:25:58And the buddies just aren't given you for the day, they're

0:25:58 > 0:26:02given you for the term or the time that you're in the classroom.

0:26:02 > 0:26:03That's fantastic.

0:26:03 > 0:26:06It's been a great day all round,

0:26:06 > 0:26:08but has it been enough to win Munya over?

0:26:08 > 0:26:11Based on the information that we have today about jobs,

0:26:11 > 0:26:12our vote goes to...

0:26:18 > 0:26:20- Australia.- Unsure.

0:26:22 > 0:26:23- Unsure?- Yeah.

0:26:24 > 0:26:26What's there to be unsure about?

0:26:26 > 0:26:30Well, to be fair, Christine, the prospects look very bright,

0:26:30 > 0:26:32but so does the lottery.

0:26:32 > 0:26:34There's no guarantee that we'll get here

0:26:34 > 0:26:36and everything will work out well.

0:26:36 > 0:26:38It's 100 and something thousand dollars

0:26:38 > 0:26:40and a consultancy career.

0:26:40 > 0:26:44- But I'm five years away from my retirement point.- OK.

0:26:46 > 0:26:48- Australia.- Unsure.

0:26:55 > 0:26:57That's a major set back for Christine.

0:26:57 > 0:27:00Despite everything he's seen and heard so far,

0:27:00 > 0:27:02Munya's still resisting the move.

0:27:02 > 0:27:05But, halfway through the trial week,

0:27:05 > 0:27:09are PJ and Vanessa any closer to sharing their mum's dream?

0:27:09 > 0:27:12It's been a total sort of curve ball in terms of the children.

0:27:12 > 0:27:16We've been surprised by how positive Vanessa has actually been.

0:27:16 > 0:27:19She seems, in a way, even though she hasn't quite said that,

0:27:19 > 0:27:24to sort of be coming round cos we expected her to be completely,

0:27:24 > 0:27:25um, to completely disengage.

0:27:25 > 0:27:28This is our only chance, you know, to see it before we decide,

0:27:28 > 0:27:32so I'm up for trying everything out, you know, seeing what it's like.

0:27:32 > 0:27:35PJ is approaching everything completely with

0:27:35 > 0:27:38the shutters down and just saying, you know,

0:27:38 > 0:27:40"I'm not even going to engage with that."

0:27:40 > 0:27:43My concern is actually, apart from just not wanting to come here,

0:27:43 > 0:27:47you can actually see the mood dropping at different points.

0:27:47 > 0:27:50It's like...yeah, it doesn't matter how much fun he has or how

0:27:50 > 0:27:54much he likes the school or how much he liked the houses or anything,

0:27:54 > 0:27:58I think it's just because he doesn't want to move here.

0:27:58 > 0:28:01It's just really being away from family,

0:28:01 > 0:28:05having to move to a different side of the world away from friends.

0:28:05 > 0:28:09I am finding it really hard to just imagine being here.

0:28:18 > 0:28:21Everything rests on Christine's ability to convince her

0:28:21 > 0:28:27entire family that a move down under offers them the best possible future,

0:28:27 > 0:28:30and spending more time together is a huge part of her dream.

0:28:30 > 0:28:34So, can a day out Aussie style bring them a step closer?

0:28:39 > 0:28:43The Makuves start their day exploring the local area.

0:28:43 > 0:28:46- Oh, my gosh!- That has my name on it!

0:28:46 > 0:28:48- I know!- That's brilliant. - Oh, my goodness!

0:28:48 > 0:28:50Where is the one that says "Mum and Dad"?

0:28:50 > 0:28:51What do you say?

0:28:51 > 0:28:56- Seeing the children having a fantastic time is great.- Yeah.

0:28:56 > 0:28:59- Vanessa has been...she's been completely giddy.- Yeah.

0:29:00 > 0:29:02I could come here, like, every weekend

0:29:02 > 0:29:04and just keep exploring and stuff.

0:29:07 > 0:29:09And the family get up close and personal

0:29:09 > 0:29:11with some of the local wildlife.

0:29:11 > 0:29:14- This one here is our black-headed python.- Aah!

0:29:14 > 0:29:16I did not know that I would ever be able to say "snake"

0:29:16 > 0:29:20and "fantastic" in the same sentence until today, but I really enjoyed it.

0:29:24 > 0:29:28The Makuves move on to enjoy some time out on the beach.

0:29:33 > 0:29:36The day's gone down well with PJ.

0:29:37 > 0:29:40The beaches were quite good and, um...

0:29:40 > 0:29:44I think the mall was quite good as well. I quite enjoyed the day.

0:29:44 > 0:29:47So, could he and Vanessa see themselves enjoying this

0:29:47 > 0:29:50kind of lifestyle on a more permanent basis?

0:29:50 > 0:29:53I can see some benefits in making a move to Australia,

0:29:53 > 0:29:57but I don't think it has really changed my...

0:29:57 > 0:30:01opinion much, but it was a nice day.

0:30:01 > 0:30:03I don't think I've started to form a proper decision yet,

0:30:03 > 0:30:05but it's helping.

0:30:05 > 0:30:07It's been a wonderful day,

0:30:07 > 0:30:10despite the fact that the weather is not that good today.

0:30:10 > 0:30:13We've enjoyed ourselves as if it's been bright and sunny.

0:30:13 > 0:30:17I'm feeling quite optimistic about the day today.

0:30:17 > 0:30:19I think everybody was actually really happy.

0:30:19 > 0:30:23I'm hoping for at least an 80% vote...for Australia, but we'll see.

0:30:23 > 0:30:25We'll see.

0:30:25 > 0:30:28Her day sampling the Aussie lifestyle has given

0:30:28 > 0:30:31the family some valuable thinking time.

0:30:31 > 0:30:33It could be Christine's best chance at winning PJ

0:30:33 > 0:30:36and Vanessa round, so has it worked?

0:30:36 > 0:30:39Based on what we've done today, our vote goes to...

0:30:45 > 0:30:46SOME: Australia!

0:30:49 > 0:30:50Undecided?

0:30:50 > 0:30:55I like what we did today, when we went to the beaches and stuff like

0:30:55 > 0:30:59that, but I'm quite sure you could do similar stuff in the UK as well.

0:30:59 > 0:31:02- It was really good and it was fun, but it just wasn't...you know,

0:31:02 > 0:31:06I thought we could do something similar, you know, in the UK.

0:31:06 > 0:31:10I sort of get your point in a way.

0:31:10 > 0:31:13However, because of the weather, there is a very, very limited,

0:31:13 > 0:31:17you know, window of opportunity in the year where you can do

0:31:17 > 0:31:21things like that, so you can do it in the UK, but the point is,

0:31:21 > 0:31:23you can't do it all the time, whereas, in Australia,

0:31:23 > 0:31:25you might be able to.

0:31:29 > 0:31:31Christine's trying to stay positive,

0:31:31 > 0:31:35but will the reality of the cost of living down under cast a cloud?

0:31:35 > 0:31:39Back in the UK, the Makuves live in army accommodation,

0:31:39 > 0:31:41so they don't have a house of their own to sell.

0:31:41 > 0:31:44They do have savings, but whether there's enough to

0:31:44 > 0:31:47achieve their dreams remains to be seen.

0:31:47 > 0:31:48To help them do the figures,

0:31:48 > 0:31:52we've prepared a breakdown of their monthly expenses.

0:31:52 > 0:31:54- OK, this is the shopping.- Right.

0:31:54 > 0:31:59Sausages - their mid-range value is £4 more expensive.

0:31:59 > 0:32:03- Wow!- That's quite expensive. - That is a lot.- Right.

0:32:03 > 0:32:05- Per month...- Per month...

0:32:05 > 0:32:09- £1,333.- I can't believe that.

0:32:09 > 0:32:11Compared to £617 in the UK.

0:32:13 > 0:32:15That is, you know, double and a bit.

0:32:15 > 0:32:17- Goodness me.- I can't believe that.

0:32:17 > 0:32:19That is a difference, Christine, of...

0:32:21 > 0:32:24- (My gosh.)- £716 a month.

0:32:24 > 0:32:27That's way more than Christine had ever expected

0:32:27 > 0:32:29and there's more to come.

0:32:29 > 0:32:31Basing their mortgage on the dream property,

0:32:31 > 0:32:35they now have to calculate their entire monthly outgoings.

0:32:35 > 0:32:37Total figures...

0:32:37 > 0:32:42is a minus £2,065.

0:32:42 > 0:32:432-0-6-5.

0:32:43 > 0:32:46And 78p.

0:32:46 > 0:32:49I don't know how we're going to come up from this, I mean, you know...

0:32:49 > 0:32:52it's kind of, you almost feel like, "OK, well, whatever." You know?

0:32:52 > 0:32:56It was a good dream to have, but it's not going to happen.

0:32:56 > 0:32:59With the costs mounting against Australia,

0:32:59 > 0:33:02can their higher salary prospects help?

0:33:02 > 0:33:06Main income...the difference there would be...

0:33:06 > 0:33:09- £24,500.- Yeah.

0:33:09 > 0:33:10That you would earn more...

0:33:11 > 0:33:13..than in the UK.

0:33:13 > 0:33:17And a full-time teaching job down under could potentially mean

0:33:17 > 0:33:21an increase of £34,000 a year for Christine.

0:33:21 > 0:33:22Wow.

0:33:23 > 0:33:24Wow.

0:33:24 > 0:33:27That kind of starts to change things slightly, doesn't it?

0:33:27 > 0:33:30Looks like the dream could be back on.

0:33:30 > 0:33:35We would earn £45,000 more than we're earning now.

0:33:35 > 0:33:39So, you mean £45,000 on top of what we currently earn

0:33:39 > 0:33:40on a combined basis.

0:33:40 > 0:33:45- That's a big wow, isn't it? - And that's after tax.- Wow!

0:33:45 > 0:33:48- It does work out to, you know, considerably more...- Yeah.

0:33:48 > 0:33:53..on a monthly basis than we currently are paying out.

0:33:53 > 0:33:56However, we would still be, you know...

0:33:56 > 0:33:59- £20,000 better off per year... - Even with the increased expenses.

0:33:59 > 0:34:00..including that large mortgage.

0:34:00 > 0:34:03Exactly and that would include that lovely big house with

0:34:03 > 0:34:08the tennis court and swimming pool and acreage and still £20,000,

0:34:08 > 0:34:10after tax, in the pocket.

0:34:10 > 0:34:12That's a sizeable sum,

0:34:12 > 0:34:15but is it enough for Munya to buy into Christine's plans?

0:34:17 > 0:34:21Based on the financial comparison of the costs and benefits,

0:34:21 > 0:34:22our vote goes to...

0:34:25 > 0:34:26BOTH: Australia!

0:34:31 > 0:34:33- It's a no-brainer, isn't it? - Yeah, well...

0:34:33 > 0:34:35From the financial point of view -

0:34:35 > 0:34:36a no-brainer.

0:34:36 > 0:34:39Yeah, looking at the final figures and what

0:34:39 > 0:34:43we could potentially save, um, the difference is insurmountable.

0:34:43 > 0:34:44Absolutely.

0:34:49 > 0:34:50With Munya swayed by the figures,

0:34:50 > 0:34:53Christine's dream looks tantalisingly close,

0:34:53 > 0:34:58but the final bridge in this journey is often the hardest to cross -

0:34:58 > 0:35:00saying goodbye to loved ones.

0:35:00 > 0:35:03We've prepared a DVD of messages from friends

0:35:03 > 0:35:05and family back in the UK.

0:35:05 > 0:35:08So, kids, are you all OK to watch this?

0:35:08 > 0:35:10Yes.

0:35:10 > 0:35:12- - Yeah.- Yeah, OK.

0:35:12 > 0:35:15SHE INHALES Let's do this, then.

0:35:15 > 0:35:16Hi, guys.

0:35:16 > 0:35:20Hello, everyone. How are you? Miss you so much.

0:35:20 > 0:35:23- Hi, Christine.- Oh, Mummy!- It's Mum.

0:35:23 > 0:35:25I miss you, you know that.

0:35:25 > 0:35:26Christine...

0:35:27 > 0:35:29..from when she grew up,

0:35:29 > 0:35:31she was a wonderful girl.

0:35:31 > 0:35:35She is a really good girl, perfect, polite, bright.

0:35:35 > 0:35:37Munya...

0:35:37 > 0:35:40..is the reliable person.

0:35:42 > 0:35:44Most of the times, he keeps his promises.

0:35:45 > 0:35:47And he's very generous.

0:35:49 > 0:35:50The children are brilliant...

0:35:50 > 0:35:53I love my grandchildren. They're wonderful.

0:35:54 > 0:35:56Vanessa's really nice, um...

0:35:56 > 0:35:59kind. She's very clever.

0:35:59 > 0:36:02PJ and Tin Tin are just the funny people, really!

0:36:02 > 0:36:04They're really funny, yeah.

0:36:05 > 0:36:07I'm going to miss them greatly.

0:36:07 > 0:36:10I know I'll be able and visit and that,

0:36:10 > 0:36:13but that's not going to be the same, but all the same...

0:36:14 > 0:36:18It'll just be like I've lost something, you know,

0:36:18 > 0:36:21like within the family it'll be really sad.

0:36:21 > 0:36:22Em...

0:36:22 > 0:36:27(Sorry.) Yeah, it'll be really sad, I suppose, but, um...

0:36:28 > 0:36:31It's their decision, really, isn't it? So, yeah.

0:36:33 > 0:36:37I want you to know that if you decide to move, you're going

0:36:37 > 0:36:39to be greatly missed here.

0:36:40 > 0:36:45I'm going to miss you. As a sister, Christine,

0:36:45 > 0:36:47you've always been there for me

0:36:47 > 0:36:51and I can't imagine any life without you around me.

0:36:52 > 0:36:59Um, when I found out about you, um... (Sorry.) ..moving to Australia,

0:36:59 > 0:37:01em...

0:37:01 > 0:37:05I was really sad about it and, um,

0:37:05 > 0:37:07I kind of pushed it to the back of my mind,

0:37:07 > 0:37:12because, um, I didn't really want to think about it.

0:37:12 > 0:37:17You are a big chunk of my life and I really, really miss you,

0:37:17 > 0:37:22but, obviously, you've found, um, new beginnings there.

0:37:22 > 0:37:25Eh, you're going to start a new life.

0:37:25 > 0:37:27I'm all right with that,

0:37:27 > 0:37:31but I will definitely miss you and hope the best.

0:37:31 > 0:37:32Bye.

0:37:45 > 0:37:47What are we feeling, darling boy?

0:37:48 > 0:37:51I knew it would be sad, but I didn't think it would be this sad.

0:37:53 > 0:37:55Go and cuddle Mummy.

0:38:03 > 0:38:07- That would be really hard to move to Australia...

0:38:07 > 0:38:11just because of, like, close bonds that we've formed with family.

0:38:11 > 0:38:16- TIN TIN:- Australia has its good bits, but after that video,

0:38:16 > 0:38:21I'm starting to think a lot about the bad things, like being

0:38:21 > 0:38:25so far away from our friends and family.

0:38:32 > 0:38:37The reality of emigrating is always hard to face, but the messages

0:38:37 > 0:38:43from home have deeply affected the entire family, especially Tin Tin.

0:38:43 > 0:38:46So, will her children's reaction change Christine's belief

0:38:46 > 0:38:50in a move down under or will she continue to pursue her dream?

0:38:53 > 0:38:55I was in a state of turmoil last night

0:38:55 > 0:38:57when we saw the friends and family video.

0:38:57 > 0:39:01We hadn't anticipated the impact that that was going to have on us

0:39:01 > 0:39:04as a family and it was horrendous.

0:39:04 > 0:39:08The worst bit was Tin Tin who was absolutely distraught.

0:39:08 > 0:39:11He was distraught beyond description.

0:39:11 > 0:39:16I'm finding the final vote really hard cos I like Australia,

0:39:16 > 0:39:20but I found out I really, really miss my family.

0:39:21 > 0:39:24As a parent, that's really hard to see.

0:39:24 > 0:39:30I started to question what we were doing, you know, um...

0:39:30 > 0:39:32And what we'd be doing to him.

0:39:32 > 0:39:35Munya also feels there's a lot to weigh up.

0:39:35 > 0:39:38I'm still thinking, I'm still putting my thoughts together and I'm

0:39:38 > 0:39:42trying to tie up my thoughts and my feelings together to get it right.

0:39:43 > 0:39:46It's been a week of highs and lows for the Makuves.

0:39:46 > 0:39:50- The family were blown away by Aussie houses.- This is it, yeah!

0:39:50 > 0:39:52This is it!

0:39:52 > 0:39:54And positive news on the work front meant

0:39:54 > 0:39:57they could afford the dream home.

0:39:57 > 0:40:01So, you mean £45,000 on top of what we currently earn.

0:40:01 > 0:40:04But the thought of leaving loved ones behind was

0:40:04 > 0:40:06heartbreaking for the family.

0:40:09 > 0:40:12As it draws to a close, has the trial week done anything to

0:40:12 > 0:40:15sway Vanessa and PJ towards a life down under?

0:40:15 > 0:40:19Before, I just didn't want to come here at all.

0:40:19 > 0:40:22It's not that I want to come here now, it's just that...

0:40:22 > 0:40:25I've found that it's a better place than I thought it would be.

0:40:25 > 0:40:27- I didn't want to move here,

0:40:27 > 0:40:31so I just decided that I wouldn't like it, but...

0:40:31 > 0:40:35I did like it. I did enjoy it. It's actually really nice here.

0:40:35 > 0:40:38So, as it comes to the final turn of the cards,

0:40:38 > 0:40:41where does the family's future lie?

0:40:41 > 0:40:45Based on everything we've done and learned in Australia,

0:40:45 > 0:40:46our vote goes to...

0:40:56 > 0:40:57- Australia.- UK.

0:41:00 > 0:41:01Right, so...

0:41:01 > 0:41:03PJ, you voted, um...

0:41:03 > 0:41:06- UK.- So, that's one UK, three Australia...

0:41:06 > 0:41:08and an undecided.

0:41:08 > 0:41:11I just feel like bonds have been...

0:41:11 > 0:41:14too strong in the UK, we've gotten too close to family

0:41:14 > 0:41:16and friends and...

0:41:16 > 0:41:18I just don't think I can move.

0:41:18 > 0:41:21- It was just really hard for me to choose.

0:41:21 > 0:41:26I think what this means for me is that, right now, I think I'm fine...

0:41:26 > 0:41:29in the UK, but that means that I could possibly move to

0:41:29 > 0:41:33- Australia if, like, the decision was made later.- OK.

0:41:33 > 0:41:36Considering that you didn't want to come at all, um,

0:41:36 > 0:41:39that's actually quite a positive thing, isn't it, really?

0:41:39 > 0:41:42And, Tin Tin, you've finally decided you like Australia?

0:41:42 > 0:41:48- Um, like I said before, it has its ups and it has its downs and,

0:41:48 > 0:41:55um, like PJ said, we do have bonds with, um, our family.

0:41:55 > 0:42:00There's family in the UK, but it's also very cold,

0:42:00 > 0:42:02so I've chosen Australia.

0:42:02 > 0:42:05Very difficult to think about family,

0:42:05 > 0:42:08to think about leaving an environment where you're stable,

0:42:08 > 0:42:11um, but in the bigger picture,

0:42:11 > 0:42:16considering what Christine wants, and just considering the potential

0:42:16 > 0:42:20that's here in Australia in terms of the way of life, I think,

0:42:20 > 0:42:22Australia, long-term, will be the way to go.

0:42:22 > 0:42:26We're going to go home and we're going to have a powwow,

0:42:26 > 0:42:28then Munya and I...

0:42:28 > 0:42:34are going to be looking at trying to make the job opportunities

0:42:34 > 0:42:38a bit more solid, cos we know now what to do and where the

0:42:38 > 0:42:43opportunities are, so, we're going to be, hopefully, applying or at least

0:42:43 > 0:42:45looking out for those opportunities and trying to see

0:42:45 > 0:42:48whether we can make that move as soon as we can.

0:42:53 > 0:42:57It's been an incredibly emotional week for the Makuves

0:42:57 > 0:43:01and while Christine may not have achieved the clean sweep

0:43:01 > 0:43:05she was hoping for, she has at least managed to win some of the

0:43:05 > 0:43:07family round and while there's hope,

0:43:07 > 0:43:11Christine has no intention of giving up on her Australian dream.
