0:00:02 > 0:00:04If your biggest wish in life was to spend quality time

0:00:04 > 0:00:06with the people you love most,

0:00:06 > 0:00:10how far would you go to get what you want?

0:00:10 > 0:00:14For one family, it could mean a total change of circumstances,

0:00:14 > 0:00:17and a move to the other side of the world.

0:00:17 > 0:00:20Glenn Morse is desperate for more time with his family.

0:00:20 > 0:00:24For a third of my working life, I don't see the kids, at all.

0:00:24 > 0:00:26And wife Sue is running on empty.

0:00:26 > 0:00:28I just don't think we can carry on.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30It's putting an awful lot of strain on us.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32To bring their family together,

0:00:32 > 0:00:35they're considering turning their lives upside down.

0:00:35 > 0:00:38I would be doing predominantly what Sue does at the moment

0:00:38 > 0:00:40and Sue would be going out to work.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43But will moving to the other side of the world prove a step too far?

0:00:43 > 0:00:45I really love my kids,

0:00:45 > 0:00:48and I just feel I don't want to let anyone down.

0:01:10 > 0:01:14New Zealand is a nation made up of more than 600 islands -

0:01:14 > 0:01:18bigger than Britain, but with a population of just over 4 million,

0:01:18 > 0:01:20it's a very attractive option

0:01:20 > 0:01:23for the 12,000 Brits who emigrate there every year.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26But deciding to pack up and move to the other side of the world

0:01:26 > 0:01:28can be a massive gamble,

0:01:28 > 0:01:32and isn't always as straightforward as it might seem.

0:01:32 > 0:01:35The Morse family want to transform their lives,

0:01:35 > 0:01:39so dad, Glenn, can enjoy more time with their children.

0:01:39 > 0:01:42To achieve this, they are contemplating a move down under.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45Ahead of them lies a week where they'll explore everything

0:01:45 > 0:01:48New Zealand has to offer, before facing

0:01:48 > 0:01:51the biggest decision of their lives.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55First the family had to endure 24 hours in the air,

0:01:55 > 0:01:59on a journey that's brought them 12,000 miles from home.

0:02:04 > 0:02:09But they're all smiles when they eventually touch down in Auckland!

0:02:09 > 0:02:11It was a really good flight. It was really easy.

0:02:11 > 0:02:13The kids were really well-behaved.

0:02:13 > 0:02:18And we were going up and down... three times!

0:02:18 > 0:02:21The entertainment was very good on the plane,

0:02:21 > 0:02:24which kept the kids quiet, and they slept loads, as well.

0:02:24 > 0:02:27- So, really good.- So did Daddy! - Far better than we expected.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30So, how are they feeling about the week ahead?

0:02:30 > 0:02:33I'm looking forward to exploring New Zealand.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35Yeah, it feels very real, now we're here.

0:02:35 > 0:02:37We're hoping and praying that it's going to be good.

0:02:37 > 0:02:41But the reality is, we'll find out what it's like.

0:02:41 > 0:02:44Oi! Will you pack it in?

0:02:44 > 0:02:48There's no turning back now, as the Morses begin what could be

0:02:48 > 0:02:51the most important week of their lives.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57Back in the UK, Glenn, Sue, seven-year-old Grace

0:02:57 > 0:03:00and three-year-old Jack live in the Forest of Dean.

0:03:00 > 0:03:02It's a stunning location

0:03:02 > 0:03:05and at first glance it looks like the Morses are living the good life.

0:03:05 > 0:03:08But appearances can be deceptive.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11Our lifestyle here looks idyllic... erm, from the outside.

0:03:13 > 0:03:17Almost to the point that we sometimes, to other people,

0:03:17 > 0:03:21look like swans going across the top of the water -

0:03:21 > 0:03:23and we've got everything, and we're very lucky -

0:03:23 > 0:03:26but people don't see the work that goes behind it.

0:03:26 > 0:03:28The sacrifices.

0:03:28 > 0:03:32A self-employed quantity surveyor and full-time mum,

0:03:32 > 0:03:34Sue works around the clock.

0:03:34 > 0:03:38You've had phone calls here at half past midnight,

0:03:38 > 0:03:40from contractors and builders

0:03:40 > 0:03:43who ring at half past midnight to say,

0:03:43 > 0:03:48"Can you come and sort this problem for us?" which isn't ideal, is it?

0:03:48 > 0:03:50It isn't ideal.

0:03:50 > 0:03:54And for police officer Glenn, working long shifts means

0:03:54 > 0:03:57missing huge chunks of his children's lives.

0:03:57 > 0:04:03I work two mornings, two lates, two nights and get four days off.

0:04:03 > 0:04:08If you take the two evening shifts, I leave for work at about 1.15pm -

0:04:08 > 0:04:11the kids are already at school,

0:04:11 > 0:04:12I come home about 2.30am

0:04:12 > 0:04:15when the kids are tucked up fast asleep in bed,

0:04:15 > 0:04:18so when I get up in the morning, the kids have gone to school.

0:04:18 > 0:04:22So for a third of my working life I don't see the kids, at all.

0:04:22 > 0:04:25Seven-year-old Grace feels the same.

0:04:25 > 0:04:30He's always at work, and things like that. He's never with us.

0:04:30 > 0:04:34Only on his days off.

0:04:34 > 0:04:35And usually on his days off,

0:04:35 > 0:04:39when we've got something important coming up, like we always do,

0:04:39 > 0:04:42Daddy's always clearing up, because me and Jack always make messes,

0:04:42 > 0:04:46so we never hardly have free time with him.

0:04:46 > 0:04:50The couple's workload means the family have reached breaking point.

0:04:50 > 0:04:52I don't think we can carry on.

0:04:52 > 0:04:54It's putting an awful lot of strain on us.

0:04:54 > 0:04:57And we're not enjoying life.

0:04:57 > 0:04:59The kids see we're not enjoying life,

0:04:59 > 0:05:01and that's never any good for children.

0:05:01 > 0:05:03Desperate for change,

0:05:03 > 0:05:06Glenn thinks moving to New Zealand could offer the answer.

0:05:06 > 0:05:08It's been my idea for many, many years.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11Sue's not always had that dream.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14I did mention it, certainly when we first met,

0:05:14 > 0:05:17but she was dead against it at the time.

0:05:17 > 0:05:21Sue's now open to moving halfway around the world.

0:05:21 > 0:05:25Her job as a quantity surveyor could be the ticket to a visa and new life

0:05:25 > 0:05:27for the family in New Zealand,

0:05:27 > 0:05:30but it would mean radical changes.

0:05:30 > 0:05:33If we go to New Zealand, it's a change of circumstances

0:05:33 > 0:05:35for the two of us, really.

0:05:35 > 0:05:39I would be doing predominantly what Sue does at the moment, erm...

0:05:39 > 0:05:42and Sue would be going out to work rather than working from home.

0:05:42 > 0:05:44So it is a complete change.

0:05:44 > 0:05:46For Glenn, it would mean turning his back on a career

0:05:46 > 0:05:48of more than 20 years.

0:05:48 > 0:05:51Giving up my job is a huge sacrifice,

0:05:51 > 0:05:52but I hope that it's worth it.

0:05:52 > 0:05:56And in years to come, when we look back and we see that we've had

0:05:56 > 0:05:59quality time as a family with the children,

0:05:59 > 0:06:02which we wouldn't have got if I hadn't given up my job,

0:06:02 > 0:06:04then, yes, it will have been well worth it.

0:06:04 > 0:06:06Glenn and Sue would, effectively, swap roles.

0:06:06 > 0:06:09Cos he'd going to be the house-husband,

0:06:09 > 0:06:12and we're going to have more time playing with him, than we do here.

0:06:12 > 0:06:16A life in New Zealand could offer the family quality time together,

0:06:16 > 0:06:18but it would mean taking Grace and Jack

0:06:18 > 0:06:21away from much-loved grandparents,

0:06:21 > 0:06:24and for Sue, in particular, that's a dreaded thought.

0:06:24 > 0:06:26I feel really sad about leaving them.

0:06:26 > 0:06:28I feel as though we're running away a little bit

0:06:28 > 0:06:31and jibbing out of our responsibilities.

0:06:31 > 0:06:35Our parents could need us, and we're not going to be here.

0:06:35 > 0:06:38Sue's also worried about breaking up a close relationship Grace has

0:06:38 > 0:06:41with Glenn's older daughter, Laura.

0:06:41 > 0:06:43Grace and Laura have a really, really special bond.

0:06:43 > 0:06:47If Grace is really playing me up, I threaten to tell Laura

0:06:47 > 0:06:49and say Laura's going to be disappointed in her,

0:06:49 > 0:06:52and that's it, she stops.

0:06:52 > 0:06:57It's probably one of the hardest things to do,

0:06:57 > 0:07:01erm...is to take Grace away from Laura, really.

0:07:01 > 0:07:02Leaving family in the UK

0:07:02 > 0:07:05is a sacrifice the Morses will have to make,

0:07:05 > 0:07:07if they're to rebuild their family down under.

0:07:07 > 0:07:12For Sue, there's an added pressure of becoming sole breadwinner.

0:07:12 > 0:07:14It's really going to be really, really difficult,

0:07:14 > 0:07:17to go from being mummy all the time,

0:07:17 > 0:07:21to mummy that's at work.

0:07:21 > 0:07:22But if I don't do it,

0:07:22 > 0:07:26we haven't really got a future in New Zealand.

0:07:30 > 0:07:33To find out if switching parental roles on the other side of the world

0:07:33 > 0:07:37will mean the Morses can achieve the family life they dream of,

0:07:37 > 0:07:41they'll spend the next week exploring the Auckland area.

0:07:41 > 0:07:45Home for the week is a two-bedroomed cottage in Stillwater,

0:07:45 > 0:07:49a small town about 30 minutes north of the city centre.

0:07:49 > 0:07:51With the Wai Iti Forest on its doorstep,

0:07:51 > 0:07:53it should offer an ideal home-from-home.

0:07:53 > 0:07:55But will the Morses agree?

0:07:55 > 0:07:56Wow. Look at this!

0:07:56 > 0:07:59- Great, isn't it?- Yeah!

0:07:59 > 0:08:01- Lovely!- Oh, it's lovely, isn't it?

0:08:01 > 0:08:03Look at that view. The balcony.

0:08:03 > 0:08:06Jack! Look, there's a boat over there!

0:08:06 > 0:08:10- Ooh, Daddy is going to have to do a bit of cooking in there.- Very nice.

0:08:11 > 0:08:12It's lovely, isn't it?

0:08:12 > 0:08:14First impressions are good,

0:08:14 > 0:08:18but after that flight, Sue's keen to sort out the sleeping arrangements.

0:08:18 > 0:08:22- Do you think this room's nice for you two?- I want this bed.- That bed?

0:08:25 > 0:08:29- A mirror! Look at this bedroom!- Wow!

0:08:29 > 0:08:31Oh, Glenn, look what we've got to wake up to in the morning.

0:08:33 > 0:08:34I can see me here...

0:08:34 > 0:08:36with my cup of tea...

0:08:36 > 0:08:38..which you have gone and made.

0:08:40 > 0:08:44It's fun and games now, but with a life-changing decision looming,

0:08:44 > 0:08:47this week is make or break time for the Morses.

0:08:47 > 0:08:50I hope that, come the end of the week, we're not still thinking -

0:08:50 > 0:08:54Shall we? Shan't we? What if?

0:08:54 > 0:08:56I hope to have all the answers in place.

0:08:56 > 0:08:59That Sue and I can both make a decision,

0:08:59 > 0:09:02and it would be nice if Sue and I both made the same decision,

0:09:02 > 0:09:05whether it's to come to New Zealand or stay in the UK.

0:09:05 > 0:09:07As long as we're both of the same opinion,

0:09:07 > 0:09:11then that's what I hope will happen.

0:09:14 > 0:09:17Back in the UK, the Morses live in a three-bedroom detached house

0:09:17 > 0:09:19in Whitecroft in the Forest of Dean.

0:09:19 > 0:09:21It's a stunning location,

0:09:21 > 0:09:24so they anticipate its value at around £450,000,

0:09:24 > 0:09:28and they're keen to replicate it in New Zealand.

0:09:28 > 0:09:31The wish list would be similar to what we've got here now.

0:09:31 > 0:09:34We don't want to be on top of other people,

0:09:34 > 0:09:36and we don't want other people on top of us.

0:09:36 > 0:09:38We'd want at least four bedrooms.

0:09:38 > 0:09:41Because we would hope that friends and family would come out to stay.

0:09:41 > 0:09:44Ideally, I would say three beds and an annexe.

0:09:44 > 0:09:47Within commuting distance of Sue's work.

0:09:47 > 0:09:50A wood-burner would be very nice.

0:09:50 > 0:09:52So an acre of land with some trees would be ideal, really.

0:09:54 > 0:09:58That's quite a list, let's hope they're not left wanting.

0:09:58 > 0:10:01Potentially, Sue and Glenn have around £450,000

0:10:01 > 0:10:04to spend on their new home.

0:10:04 > 0:10:06To show them what's available in the Auckland area,

0:10:06 > 0:10:09we've selected three properties -

0:10:09 > 0:10:13one on budget, one their ideal home, and one in-between.

0:10:13 > 0:10:17After seeing each, they'll find out what they cost.

0:10:17 > 0:10:21First stop is Puhoi, a 40-minute drive from the centre of Auckland.

0:10:21 > 0:10:24This small town offers the privacy and laid-back lifestyle

0:10:24 > 0:10:26Glenn and Sue are after.

0:10:26 > 0:10:29Leaving Grace and Jack with a childminder,

0:10:29 > 0:10:32they are keen to see what this three-bedroomed house could offer.

0:10:32 > 0:10:34Mm, nice!

0:10:34 > 0:10:37Oh, and yeah, very spacious, isn't it? Lots and lots of room.

0:10:37 > 0:10:40- Wow.- Yeah.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43- Gives quite a good impression when you walk in, doesn't it?- Yeah.

0:10:43 > 0:10:46- Lovely kitchen.- Yeah. Good. - Nice and bright and airy.

0:10:46 > 0:10:49- You've always wanted one of the centre consoles, haven't you?- Mm.

0:10:49 > 0:10:51No, it's good. You know, it's OK.

0:10:51 > 0:10:54But, I think, I ideally, if you are looking for perfect,

0:10:54 > 0:10:56a bigger family room.

0:10:56 > 0:11:00I think the only thing with this is having the formal dining area

0:11:00 > 0:11:02right off the lounge.

0:11:02 > 0:11:05If you had friends over who had children as well,

0:11:05 > 0:11:09which is probably likely, the kids have got nowhere to go.

0:11:09 > 0:11:12This house certainly isn't overlooked

0:11:12 > 0:11:14and has the land Sue and Glenn want.

0:11:14 > 0:11:18But will they be able to see past the grey skies to appreciate it?

0:11:18 > 0:11:21It's got the sort of land - the volume of land -

0:11:21 > 0:11:23that we were looking for.

0:11:23 > 0:11:27The property comes around the fence, up the side of the track there,

0:11:27 > 0:11:30then round the back end, there's about two-and-a-half acres.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33But if Jack wants to go out and kick a football around,

0:11:33 > 0:11:37there is nowhere on the slope there he can kick a football around.

0:11:37 > 0:11:40Glenn's not happy with the lay of this land.

0:11:40 > 0:11:43Is there anything with the house that will get them excited?

0:11:43 > 0:11:46This looks like the master suite.

0:11:46 > 0:11:49- Lovely.- Yeah.- Again, it's not huge, is it? Not huge.

0:11:49 > 0:11:52- But is perfectly... - It's bigger than...

0:11:52 > 0:11:54- Certainly a lot bigger than we've got back at home.- Reckon?

0:11:54 > 0:11:58Yeah, yeah, definitely. You think, back home,

0:11:58 > 0:12:00we're always squeezing by the bottom of the bed, aren't we?

0:12:00 > 0:12:03To get by. And this bed is the same size as ours back home.

0:12:03 > 0:12:07Ideally, the Morses would have a spare bedroom for visitors, too.

0:12:07 > 0:12:11Although, it's showing at the moment as three bedrooms,

0:12:11 > 0:12:14I think that we would definitely need at least four.

0:12:14 > 0:12:18It might not be perfect, but with their £450,000 budget,

0:12:18 > 0:12:20could they afford it?

0:12:22 > 0:12:23- Shall we look?- Go on, you do it.

0:12:28 > 0:12:30£426,250.

0:12:32 > 0:12:34That's a lot more than I thought.

0:12:34 > 0:12:37It's not the sort of money that we're prepared to throw at it,

0:12:37 > 0:12:41to give us what we are looking for.

0:12:41 > 0:12:42OK?

0:12:43 > 0:12:45- Bit disappointed, really.- Mm.

0:12:45 > 0:12:47It is a nice house. It is a nice house.

0:12:47 > 0:12:49Doesn't bode well for the next one.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51This property's on budget,

0:12:51 > 0:12:54but it just doesn't have the space the Morses are looking for.

0:12:54 > 0:12:57Hopefully, the next one will get the dream back on track.

0:13:01 > 0:13:05Property two is in Coatesville, in the Rodney district.

0:13:05 > 0:13:08The rural aspect of this area should definitely appeal to Glenn,

0:13:08 > 0:13:10and with just a short commute to the city,

0:13:10 > 0:13:12Sue could be happy here, too.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14But property is in demand,

0:13:14 > 0:13:17so houses can be on the pricey side.

0:13:17 > 0:13:20This kitchen is really good, isn't it? Great proportion.

0:13:20 > 0:13:22Lots of space for the kids.

0:13:22 > 0:13:25They can be outside on the decking or in here

0:13:25 > 0:13:29while we're cooking and getting things sorted.

0:13:29 > 0:13:31It's a good start.

0:13:31 > 0:13:35- And there's a little treat for Sue in store, too.- Wood burner.

0:13:35 > 0:13:37Wood burner's great.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39It's almost like a straight-through room to the kitchen.

0:13:39 > 0:13:43It is separated by that fancy nice wall there,

0:13:43 > 0:13:44which is quite a nice feature.

0:13:44 > 0:13:46Great idea. It's lovely.

0:13:46 > 0:13:47I'm really impressed.

0:13:47 > 0:13:49This house has four bedrooms,

0:13:49 > 0:13:52checking off another point on Glenn and Sue's wish list.

0:13:52 > 0:13:56This must be the master bedroom.

0:13:56 > 0:13:58It's not huge, but it's...

0:13:58 > 0:14:00- Look at the views!- Yeah.

0:14:00 > 0:14:02Massive windows.

0:14:02 > 0:14:06Oh, blimey. Could you imagine waking up to that every morning?

0:14:06 > 0:14:09- Oh, there's a hot tub there as well. - Oh, yeah.

0:14:09 > 0:14:12- So I could get straight out of bed... - Into the hot tub.- ..into the hot tub

0:14:12 > 0:14:15and you can bring my cup of tea. To the hot tub.

0:14:15 > 0:14:16Very nice.

0:14:16 > 0:14:20I think a hot tub's just been added to Sue's list!

0:14:20 > 0:14:22The property also has outbuildings,

0:14:22 > 0:14:24- which could provide space for an annexe.- Oh, wow!

0:14:24 > 0:14:26This is your play area, then.

0:14:26 > 0:14:28This is a serious garage!

0:14:28 > 0:14:29Whoa, my goodness!

0:14:29 > 0:14:31This is a little sleep-out.

0:14:31 > 0:14:33Look, a little self-contained unit.

0:14:33 > 0:14:37It's not ready for... to actually be habitable, is it?

0:14:37 > 0:14:40But you can see the potential.

0:14:40 > 0:14:41That is pretty amazing.

0:14:41 > 0:14:44You could certainly do something with this, very easily.

0:14:44 > 0:14:46You don't need a garage that big, love.

0:14:46 > 0:14:49You'd have to forego your garage for a house for my mum.

0:14:49 > 0:14:51SHE LAUGHS Yeah.

0:14:51 > 0:14:54Glenn isn't committing to anything just yet.

0:14:54 > 0:14:59At least, not until he finds out if it's within their £450,000 budget.

0:14:59 > 0:15:04If we're looking at turning those buildings into an annexe,

0:15:04 > 0:15:07or whatever, then we're going to be taking time doing that,

0:15:07 > 0:15:09which is putting us back into exactly the same position

0:15:09 > 0:15:12as we're in now in the UK - having precious little time with the kids.

0:15:12 > 0:15:15Well, it won't so much, because you are not going to be working, are you?

0:15:15 > 0:15:17So, you are going to have more...

0:15:17 > 0:15:20you know, an additional 40 hours, 50 hours a week

0:15:20 > 0:15:22to what you have got now.

0:15:22 > 0:15:25- I am guessing...- £550,000.

0:15:25 > 0:15:28Yeah, I was going to say £550,000.

0:15:28 > 0:15:31- Shall we have a look?- Go on, then.

0:15:35 > 0:15:38SHE READS IT OUT

0:15:38 > 0:15:40So, it is over-budget, but it's not...

0:15:40 > 0:15:44so out of reach that you'd need to go to work, as well.

0:15:44 > 0:15:47This suits our purpose a lot more, doesn't it? A lot better.

0:15:47 > 0:15:50We could see ourselves here with the kids, couldn't really see ourselves

0:15:50 > 0:15:53at the other property with the kids. Erm...

0:15:53 > 0:15:56And the schools are apparently very good, so...

0:15:56 > 0:15:58location, house, school, all coming together.

0:15:58 > 0:16:01- Well, that's very positive. - Yeah. Yeah, good.

0:16:01 > 0:16:02I'm pleased with that.

0:16:02 > 0:16:05This house offers everything Glenn and Sue need,

0:16:05 > 0:16:09but at £72,000 over-budget, it would mean a mortgage.

0:16:09 > 0:16:14And that will place more pressure on Sue as the family's sole earner.

0:16:14 > 0:16:19Let's hope property three can give the family an affordable alternative

0:16:19 > 0:16:22that's worth moving halfway around the world for.

0:16:22 > 0:16:25Still in the Rodney district, this five-bedroom house

0:16:25 > 0:16:28is also close to an excellent primary school,

0:16:28 > 0:16:30which could make it perfect for Jack and Grace.

0:16:30 > 0:16:31Oh, my goodness!

0:16:34 > 0:16:36That...erm...

0:16:36 > 0:16:38Speechless.

0:16:38 > 0:16:41..certainly gives you the wow factor when you walk in, doesn't it?

0:16:41 > 0:16:43That is... I'm speechless. That is just amazing.

0:16:44 > 0:16:49That's... That's what you call a family area.

0:16:49 > 0:16:51That is... Yeah.

0:16:51 > 0:16:53It's given me goose bumps.

0:16:53 > 0:16:56As first impressions go, that's pretty good!

0:16:57 > 0:17:00Not wholly sure about the green, but, erm...

0:17:00 > 0:17:03- I just think this is amazing. - I think the green's quite nice.

0:17:03 > 0:17:06I think it sets it off quite nicely.

0:17:06 > 0:17:07A touch different.

0:17:07 > 0:17:10I could seriously see myself cooking in here.

0:17:10 > 0:17:13Oh, good. At least I wouldn't have to do it.

0:17:13 > 0:17:15IF you're going to be a stay-at-home dad,

0:17:15 > 0:17:18cooking might be part of the deal, Glenn!

0:17:18 > 0:17:21Everywhere you look it's just pure...

0:17:21 > 0:17:24quality, isn't it? It's beautiful, beautiful stuff.

0:17:24 > 0:17:26This must be the family bathroom.

0:17:26 > 0:17:30- Oh, look at that, isn't that lovely? - Yeah.- Really nice detail.

0:17:32 > 0:17:34Same quality in here as you've got everywhere else, isn't it?

0:17:34 > 0:17:37- Yeah, it's just ideal, though, isn't it?- It's perfect.- Perfect.- Yeah.

0:17:37 > 0:17:41I think this is probably the biggest bedroom I've ever seen.

0:17:41 > 0:17:43That is stunning.

0:17:44 > 0:17:48And they haven't even seen the en suite.

0:17:48 > 0:17:51- That's the business, isn't it? - Wow!- Look at that!

0:17:53 > 0:17:56That's not a shower room, is it? It's huge. That is incredible.

0:17:57 > 0:18:01- Yeah, I've moved in. I could live here.- You could?- Yeah.

0:18:01 > 0:18:03Definitely.

0:18:04 > 0:18:08You're going to need to get a job, Glenn.

0:18:08 > 0:18:11Hidden in the garden is another handy feature.

0:18:11 > 0:18:13Oh, my goodness.

0:18:14 > 0:18:17Another little, erm...room for your mum and dad.

0:18:18 > 0:18:21- Oh, it's lovely again.- Isn't it? Yeah.

0:18:21 > 0:18:24Separate from the house.

0:18:24 > 0:18:27Definitely give visitors, long-term visitors,

0:18:27 > 0:18:31a little bit more seclusion and independence, wouldn't it?

0:18:31 > 0:18:35- And this is better for me than being in the doghouse.- You always are.

0:18:35 > 0:18:36Mm.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39This house has everything they need, and more.

0:18:39 > 0:18:40It's wowed the Morses.

0:18:40 > 0:18:44But when it comes to cost, will it be too good to be true?

0:18:44 > 0:18:48I will start by saying it is well, well, well over our budget.

0:18:48 > 0:18:51But, I am going to say...

0:18:51 > 0:18:53in the region of £750,000.

0:18:53 > 0:18:55I think £800,000.

0:18:56 > 0:19:01- Shall we have a look? Are you ready? - Go on, then. I'm ready.

0:19:01 > 0:19:05- Well, that's amazing. - I am quite shocked at that.

0:19:05 > 0:19:07£566,500.

0:19:07 > 0:19:11I mean, it's well over our budget.

0:19:11 > 0:19:14But the good news is, it's a lot less over-budget,

0:19:14 > 0:19:16than Glenn and Sue anticipated.

0:19:16 > 0:19:19It would be something that could be achievable.

0:19:19 > 0:19:21House-hunting started slowly,

0:19:21 > 0:19:24with the property neither Sue nor Glenn were sold on.

0:19:24 > 0:19:29The next was almost perfect, but £72,000 over budget.

0:19:29 > 0:19:32The final property ticked all their boxes,

0:19:32 > 0:19:34but owning it would depend on a good pension for Glenn,

0:19:34 > 0:19:37and Sue increasing her earning potential.

0:19:37 > 0:19:40So, based on their day, would the couple choose

0:19:40 > 0:19:42a life in New Zealand or the UK?

0:19:42 > 0:19:46We've had a really great day today looking at houses in New Zealand,

0:19:46 > 0:19:50and based on that, our vote goes to...

0:19:57 > 0:19:59- New Zealand.- New Zealand.

0:20:01 > 0:20:05- I'm not shocked.- You sure?- Yeah. You definitely going New Zealand?

0:20:05 > 0:20:08- Yeah. It was a close-run thing, I must say.- Really?- Yeah.

0:20:08 > 0:20:10Because you do...erm...

0:20:10 > 0:20:14They're expensive, but I think pound for pound, or dollar for dollar,

0:20:14 > 0:20:19you do get a little bit more in New Zealand than you do in the UK.

0:20:19 > 0:20:21New Zealand! SHE LAUGHS

0:20:28 > 0:20:30Property may have won her over, but Sue's all too aware

0:20:30 > 0:20:35that if the family are to have the home they'd love in New Zealand,

0:20:35 > 0:20:37she'll need to be earning a good salary.

0:20:37 > 0:20:41Back in the UK, she is a self-employed quantity surveyor,

0:20:41 > 0:20:44juggling work with caring for the children.

0:20:44 > 0:20:46If the family move, she'll work full-time

0:20:46 > 0:20:48leaving Glenn to look after the little ones,

0:20:48 > 0:20:52a plan she isn't yet totally comfortable with.

0:20:53 > 0:20:56I've got to be able to travel to work easily enough.

0:20:56 > 0:21:00I don't want to be spending an hour and a half a day travelling to work

0:21:00 > 0:21:03and an hour and a half travelling home from work,

0:21:03 > 0:21:04because I won't see the kids ever.

0:21:04 > 0:21:08It has to be the right salary.

0:21:08 > 0:21:11Because if it's not the right salary,

0:21:11 > 0:21:15then we won't achieve the lifestyle we need to achieve.

0:21:16 > 0:21:18And if we can't do that, then what's the point?

0:21:18 > 0:21:20Because Glenn would have to work as well.

0:21:20 > 0:21:22It's got to be something I enjoy,

0:21:22 > 0:21:24otherwise I'm going to resent it.

0:21:24 > 0:21:25I really am going to resent it.

0:21:25 > 0:21:30And that's probably the beginning of the end.

0:21:30 > 0:21:31For the adventure.

0:21:31 > 0:21:36The Morses' ideal future all hangs on Sue getting the right job.

0:21:36 > 0:21:40We've arranged for her to visit a North Shore construction company

0:21:40 > 0:21:43where she meets project manager and expat Jamie Gibson.

0:21:43 > 0:21:46How easy do you think it's going to be,

0:21:46 > 0:21:48for me to find a job, in reality?

0:21:48 > 0:21:50The way the market is at the moment,

0:21:50 > 0:21:52I think you'll find a job quite easily.

0:21:52 > 0:21:55The market is definitely picking up here

0:21:55 > 0:21:58when you compare it to what it's like in the UK.

0:21:58 > 0:22:00There's need for skilled, professional

0:22:00 > 0:22:02construction managers and quantity surveyors.

0:22:02 > 0:22:05So, personally, I don't think you'll have much trouble.

0:22:05 > 0:22:08In the UK I've been contracted for 40 hours a week.

0:22:08 > 0:22:12In reality, it's sort of - you've been contracted for 40 hours a week

0:22:12 > 0:22:15but in reality it's probably 50 as a minimum.

0:22:15 > 0:22:18- Yeah, I'd say 50.- Is it the same here?- Yeah, I'd say 50 hours minimum.

0:22:18 > 0:22:20Depending on what size job you're on.

0:22:20 > 0:22:23That's not great news.

0:22:25 > 0:22:27While Sue checks out work,

0:22:27 > 0:22:31Glenn's visiting Browns Bay primary School.

0:22:31 > 0:22:34Grace does well at school in the UK, so he's keen to ensure that

0:22:34 > 0:22:37New Zealand will offer a good education system.

0:22:37 > 0:22:39Hello, Grace. Welcome to our school!

0:22:39 > 0:22:41While principal Roger Hartnett's

0:22:41 > 0:22:44arranged for Grace to spend some time in a class,

0:22:44 > 0:22:47Glenn meets vice principal Jackie Carr

0:22:47 > 0:22:50to hear about Kiwi-style education.

0:22:50 > 0:22:53They seem to start school a year earlier in the UK,

0:22:53 > 0:22:57which means, theoretically, Grace could arrive at this school

0:22:57 > 0:23:00having already had an extra year's education.

0:23:00 > 0:23:03Regardless of which class they're in

0:23:03 > 0:23:06and which area they're working on,

0:23:06 > 0:23:11they would be assessed and their next learning steps ascertained,

0:23:11 > 0:23:14and they would work on this curriculum continuum.

0:23:14 > 0:23:16So, it's not about being in year three

0:23:16 > 0:23:20and this is what you do and these are the books you read,

0:23:20 > 0:23:23it's about being in the year three and you're at this level

0:23:23 > 0:23:26- and you're moving on to whatever comes next.- OK.

0:23:26 > 0:23:29That's exactly what Glenn needs to hear.

0:23:29 > 0:23:32A move shouldn't hinder Grace's education.

0:23:32 > 0:23:34And after a quick look around,

0:23:34 > 0:23:39it seems New Zealand schools also offer additional benefits.

0:23:39 > 0:23:42- Guess what I've seen that you would like.- What?

0:23:42 > 0:23:44You have a look. Around that way.

0:23:44 > 0:23:48All right, come on, we'll go this way and have a look, shall we?

0:23:48 > 0:23:51Every class uses the pool several times a week.

0:23:51 > 0:23:53Every child by the end of year six

0:23:53 > 0:24:00will be relatively proficient in being able to sail a little yacht.

0:24:00 > 0:24:02Look at that!

0:24:02 > 0:24:04Back at the construction company,

0:24:04 > 0:24:07Sue has scheduled a meeting with managing director Bruno Godecki

0:24:07 > 0:24:09for that all-important question.

0:24:09 > 0:24:13And what sort of salary could I expect to achieve?

0:24:13 > 0:24:16For a senior quantity surveyor, I'd say the starting salary

0:24:16 > 0:24:20is around about 95,000, plus car,

0:24:20 > 0:24:23and that really goes up to - for a senior QS,

0:24:23 > 0:24:27who's managing, say, a 30 or 40 million project,

0:24:27 > 0:24:31with, say, two or three QSs reporting to them -

0:24:31 > 0:24:34I would say that goes up to about 125,000.

0:24:34 > 0:24:36The fact that you haven't worked in New Zealand,

0:24:36 > 0:24:39I'd expect that 100-110, plus car, would be about

0:24:39 > 0:24:42where I'd expect someone would make you an offer.

0:24:44 > 0:24:47So, Sue could initially earn up to 20,000 more than at home.

0:24:47 > 0:24:51As the only owner, it's a positive outcome.

0:24:51 > 0:24:54But how will it impact on her choice between work in the UK,

0:24:54 > 0:24:56or New Zealand?

0:24:56 > 0:24:59After a very interesting day learning about the work opportunities,

0:24:59 > 0:25:01my vote goes to...

0:25:05 > 0:25:08New Zealand.

0:25:08 > 0:25:10I feel a little bit better about the salary,

0:25:10 > 0:25:13and the possibility of getting a job,

0:25:13 > 0:25:17should we decide to make the move to New Zealand.

0:25:17 > 0:25:21I think overall it has been a really constructive and useful day.

0:25:21 > 0:25:23That should be great news for Glenn.

0:25:23 > 0:25:26- KIDS:- Mummy! Mummy! Mummy!

0:25:26 > 0:25:27Hello!

0:25:27 > 0:25:32But, reunited with the children, Sue's resolve begins to waver.

0:25:32 > 0:25:37- One negative for me was that he said they work 50 hours a week.- Yeah.

0:25:37 > 0:25:40Erm...

0:25:40 > 0:25:43- and I think, you know, five 10-hour days...- Mm.

0:25:46 > 0:25:49Potentially that could be... Could be a little bit of a problem.

0:25:49 > 0:25:53That impacts on the very reason we're coming out here for.

0:25:53 > 0:25:55- Yes, absolutely.- Time with the kids.

0:25:55 > 0:25:58Could the reality of so much time away from the children

0:25:58 > 0:26:01be the beginning of the end of the Morses' dream?

0:26:01 > 0:26:06I really love my kids, and I feel I don't want to let anyone down, but...

0:26:12 > 0:26:16I can't, right now, imagine not being with them.

0:26:23 > 0:26:25Sue faces a tough decision.

0:26:25 > 0:26:28If Glenn's to spend more time at home,

0:26:28 > 0:26:31she'll be seeing less of little Grace and Jack.

0:26:31 > 0:26:34And if she can't come to terms with working full-time,

0:26:34 > 0:26:38the family's dream future may be hanging in the balance.

0:26:38 > 0:26:40Could a day sampling the New Zealand lifestyle

0:26:40 > 0:26:42bring her back round?

0:26:47 > 0:26:50Glenn and Sue's desire to uproot their young family

0:26:50 > 0:26:52is driven by their need for more time together.

0:26:55 > 0:26:59At home they love being outdoors as a family,

0:26:59 > 0:27:03so today they take the children for a picnic by the beach.

0:27:03 > 0:27:04Come on, Jack!

0:27:04 > 0:27:07Come on, Jack Morse. Keep up. Quick, run through the water!

0:27:07 > 0:27:09No, he's going to get soaking!

0:27:09 > 0:27:12Pull your shorts up, mate.

0:27:12 > 0:27:16For Sue, it's a chance to reflect on the dilemma she faces.

0:27:16 > 0:27:19To look around at this, it's just stunning.

0:27:19 > 0:27:23And to imagine that's going to be on your doorstep, erm...

0:27:23 > 0:27:25It's really exciting, erm...

0:27:25 > 0:27:27but it still doesn't take away from the fact that

0:27:27 > 0:27:30it's on my doorstep two days a week,

0:27:30 > 0:27:33but it's on Glenn and the kids' doorstep seven days a week.

0:27:33 > 0:27:37And Glenn knows their dream of a new life is under threat.

0:27:37 > 0:27:40I think she's still slightly apprehensive

0:27:40 > 0:27:43that she is going to be working 40 or 50 hours a week,

0:27:43 > 0:27:46which takes away from the family,

0:27:46 > 0:27:49and away from the house, and away from the enjoyment with the kids.

0:27:49 > 0:27:52For Sue, it's difficult balancing the hope of a better life

0:27:52 > 0:27:55for her children, with the cost of earning it.

0:28:03 > 0:28:06At the end of the day, they're the ones that are important.

0:28:06 > 0:28:08Yeah, it's been positive.

0:28:08 > 0:28:11I feel a little bit more positive than I did last night.

0:28:11 > 0:28:13Because that was quite hard, last night.

0:28:13 > 0:28:17I really felt quite emotional last night about the whole thing. Erm...

0:28:17 > 0:28:19But a little bit more positive today.

0:28:19 > 0:28:22But still can't get over the sadness.

0:28:22 > 0:28:24SHE LAUGHS

0:28:27 > 0:28:30To be able to come down to the beach,

0:28:30 > 0:28:35spend some time like this, whenever you want to, must be fantastic.

0:28:35 > 0:28:37JACK SQUEALS

0:28:39 > 0:28:43This afternoon has been everything we wanted it to be.

0:28:43 > 0:28:45You couldn't wish for better.

0:28:45 > 0:28:48Beautiful beach, the sea is amazingly warm.

0:28:48 > 0:28:51That's surprised us all, how warm the sea is.

0:28:51 > 0:28:53The weather is great,

0:28:53 > 0:28:56the kids have had a fantastic time.

0:28:56 > 0:28:58It's cost us nothing. Erm...

0:28:58 > 0:29:00It's just been absolutely fantastic.

0:29:00 > 0:29:04Just exactly what we were looking for in New Zealand.

0:29:04 > 0:29:06I think I can guess how Glenn's going to vote,

0:29:06 > 0:29:09but having sampled just a little of the lifestyle New Zealand can offer,

0:29:09 > 0:29:11what about the rest of the family?

0:29:11 > 0:29:14Based on what we've done today, we vote for...

0:29:21 > 0:29:23- ALL:- New Zealand!

0:29:24 > 0:29:26Well done, Jack.

0:29:30 > 0:29:32With Sue voting for New Zealand,

0:29:32 > 0:29:34the Morse family could be a step closer

0:29:34 > 0:29:36to starting a new life down under.

0:29:36 > 0:29:39But before they commit, they're keen to find out

0:29:39 > 0:29:42just how easy it will be to build up a new group of friends.

0:29:42 > 0:29:43- Hi.- Hi!- Can we join you?

0:29:43 > 0:29:45Absolutely. Come and sit down here.

0:29:45 > 0:29:48With Glenn potentially becoming a stay-at-home dad,

0:29:48 > 0:29:51we've arranged for the whole family to visit a toddler group

0:29:51 > 0:29:53for a taste of what his new life could be like.

0:29:53 > 0:29:55I see there's a lot of mothers here

0:29:55 > 0:29:58- and perhaps only one or two fathers. Is that normal?- Yeah.

0:29:58 > 0:30:01We get a few dads who come in.

0:30:01 > 0:30:04And do you have to be a member? Sign up? Or can you just drop in?

0:30:04 > 0:30:06- Just drop in.- Oh, that's brilliant.

0:30:06 > 0:30:09- Everyone's welcome.- Brilliant. That's really good.

0:30:09 > 0:30:12Jack's wasting no time getting stuck in,

0:30:12 > 0:30:15but is this really something Glenn could consider doing?

0:30:15 > 0:30:18I'm sure it'll take some getting used to if we do come out here,

0:30:18 > 0:30:20the fact that Sue will be at work all day long

0:30:20 > 0:30:22and I will have the kids.

0:30:22 > 0:30:25A complete reversal of what we're doing at the moment.

0:30:25 > 0:30:29But saying that, if at the end of the day the children are happy

0:30:29 > 0:30:32and as a family we're spending more time together,

0:30:32 > 0:30:34no matter what else happens,

0:30:34 > 0:30:37that is the one reason we're looking to come out to New Zealand.

0:30:37 > 0:30:39While Glenn enjoys time with the children,

0:30:39 > 0:30:42Sue gets chatting to an expat.

0:30:42 > 0:30:47Did you find it was easy to become accepted into these sort of groups,

0:30:47 > 0:30:49and made friends easily enough?

0:30:49 > 0:30:51In New Zealand so many people come from somewhere else,

0:30:51 > 0:30:54people are really open to making new friends.

0:30:54 > 0:30:56And certainly, when you've got children,

0:30:56 > 0:31:00it's just incredibly easy to talk to other parents.

0:31:00 > 0:31:01So it's a really open community.

0:31:04 > 0:31:08It looks like making friends could be easier than they think,

0:31:08 > 0:31:11and Glenn could be swapping his police car for a pink teacup.

0:31:17 > 0:31:18- Stay...- Go!

0:31:18 > 0:31:22The whole family are enjoying what New Zealand could offer,

0:31:22 > 0:31:25but their new life down under rests on Sue working full-time.

0:31:25 > 0:31:28And if they are to avoid a huge mortgage,

0:31:28 > 0:31:32they'll need to get a good price for their property back the UK,

0:31:32 > 0:31:34which they think is worth £450,000.

0:31:35 > 0:31:39We sent round two estate agents for professional valuations.

0:31:40 > 0:31:42This is good, having a separate entrance hall.

0:31:42 > 0:31:44Especially in the country.

0:31:45 > 0:31:48Excellent-sized dining room.

0:31:48 > 0:31:52Amazing views to the surrounding woodland outside.

0:31:52 > 0:31:55Bright kitchen, a little bit small for a family house.

0:31:55 > 0:31:57A little bit dated.

0:31:57 > 0:32:00- It is pretty small and it is... - Small and dated, yeah.

0:32:02 > 0:32:06But it's got a range in it. He's in our dining room.

0:32:06 > 0:32:08Excellent conservatory.

0:32:08 > 0:32:11Probably my favourite room in the property, so far.

0:32:11 > 0:32:13It is a nice room.

0:32:13 > 0:32:17- It is nice to sit in there when the sun's shining.- Look at you two.

0:32:18 > 0:32:22A relatively decent-sized master bedroom.

0:32:22 > 0:32:27The extension obviously would be a positive to the master bedroom,

0:32:27 > 0:32:29especially if they've got plumbing

0:32:29 > 0:32:32and considering an en suite/dressing room.

0:32:32 > 0:32:34Might have to get that finished.

0:32:34 > 0:32:37Yeah, might get have to get the en suite finished.

0:32:38 > 0:32:40OK, and got a little boy's room here.

0:32:40 > 0:32:43Nice views, exposed stone wall.

0:32:44 > 0:32:45- Whose is that?- My room!

0:32:45 > 0:32:48He has got pink curtains, though, hasn't he, still?

0:32:48 > 0:32:51This property is in a really superb location.

0:32:51 > 0:32:54The upstairs accommodation is slightly limited however,

0:32:54 > 0:32:59and in today's market I would value it in the region of £400-£425,000,

0:32:59 > 0:33:03and for a quick sale, £375,000.

0:33:03 > 0:33:09I would place this property on the market between £415 and £425,000,

0:33:09 > 0:33:13for a quick sale I would place it on the market in the region of 400.

0:33:13 > 0:33:16Oh-ho-ho-ho!

0:33:16 > 0:33:20That's over £50,000 less than Glenn and Sue were expecting,

0:33:20 > 0:33:23and could have a substantial effect on their plans.

0:33:23 > 0:33:26- 375 is just ridiculous.- Yeah.

0:33:27 > 0:33:29It's just... It's just not...

0:33:29 > 0:33:32That's not realistic, in any way shape or form.

0:33:32 > 0:33:37- Erm...- But whether it's realistic or not, if that's what we get for it,

0:33:37 > 0:33:42then that has a huge impact on what we would like to try and do.

0:33:42 > 0:33:43I'm quite shocked really.

0:33:43 > 0:33:45Quite shocked.

0:33:47 > 0:33:49To see if they can still afford the move,

0:33:49 > 0:33:52we prepared a cost of living comparison,

0:33:52 > 0:33:54based on calculations they've provided.

0:33:56 > 0:34:00Milk... £7.51 difference in the cost of milk.

0:34:00 > 0:34:03- That's a huge difference, isn't it? - Massive.

0:34:03 > 0:34:0824 pack of cereal - £1.47 in the UK, £10.56!

0:34:08 > 0:34:11And we get through a phenomenal amount of cereal.

0:34:11 > 0:34:15Broccoli is cheaper - 41p a kilo.

0:34:15 > 0:34:17But I don't like broccoli.

0:34:17 > 0:34:19Won't be having any of that, then.

0:34:19 > 0:34:22We'll have to live on it, to make the saving.

0:34:22 > 0:34:25It looks like the food shop could be a lot more expensive.

0:34:26 > 0:34:30That's an extra £272 a month on groceries.

0:34:30 > 0:34:33Basing their sums on the second property they viewed,

0:34:33 > 0:34:36they'll now have to factor in a mortgage.

0:34:36 > 0:34:41- Obviously, that was based on 72.5 rather than 102.5.- Yep.

0:34:41 > 0:34:45So that's going to work out roughly...

0:34:49 > 0:34:53We'd be worse off every single month, by £1,451.

0:34:56 > 0:34:57That's a lot.

0:34:57 > 0:35:00That could mean hopes for the family's future are over.

0:35:00 > 0:35:02There's got to be something...

0:35:04 > 0:35:06Your salary,

0:35:06 > 0:35:09See, it's got my income.

0:35:09 > 0:35:12What it hasn't shown is...

0:35:12 > 0:35:13my pension.

0:35:13 > 0:35:17Because when I retire from the police very shortly,

0:35:17 > 0:35:20I will be getting approximately £1,200 per calendar month

0:35:20 > 0:35:22here in New Zealand, as well.

0:35:22 > 0:35:24And that's not showing, is it?

0:35:24 > 0:35:25Oh, my gosh. Yeah.

0:35:25 > 0:35:27- Is that showing?- No. It's not.

0:35:27 > 0:35:29So that would make that...

0:35:29 > 0:35:33- 1,451 into 251.- 251.

0:35:33 > 0:35:36Well, that's better!

0:35:36 > 0:35:38Phew! With Glenn's pension added in,

0:35:38 > 0:35:43the family would actually be able to make the move work.

0:35:43 > 0:35:46Based on the cost of living figures we've just gone through,

0:35:46 > 0:35:48our vote goes to...

0:35:57 > 0:35:58- New Zealand.- New Zealand.

0:36:00 > 0:36:02I was definitely going to vote for the UK.

0:36:02 > 0:36:05I was going to vote for the UK until we realised the mistake we'd made.

0:36:05 > 0:36:09- Mm.- We knew we would take a hit. - Mistake in the right way, though.

0:36:09 > 0:36:13We knew we would take a hit, coming to New Zealand, financially

0:36:13 > 0:36:17erm, but it's...a hit that I think we can put up with

0:36:17 > 0:36:18if we tweak the figures.

0:36:18 > 0:36:22Yeah, there's always going to be movement, isn't there?

0:36:22 > 0:36:25Yeah, adjust our living costs.

0:36:25 > 0:36:26Yeah, we can live with that.

0:36:30 > 0:36:33Both Glenn and Sue are worried about leaving,

0:36:33 > 0:36:37and taking Grace and Jack away from relatives in the UK.

0:36:37 > 0:36:39Before they make their final decision on a move,

0:36:39 > 0:36:43the Morses sit down to watch messages from friends and family.

0:36:43 > 0:36:47Would you two like to see some pictures and some messages from home?

0:36:47 > 0:36:48- From Nanny and Grandad?- Yeah!

0:36:48 > 0:36:51And Laura, and Auntie Nina and Nanny Pauline?

0:36:51 > 0:36:53I think it would be lovely.

0:36:53 > 0:36:57Hi, everyone. Hope you're having a good time in New Zealand.

0:36:57 > 0:36:59Hi, everyone. How are you?

0:36:59 > 0:37:02Are you having a nice time?

0:37:02 > 0:37:05Hello, Sue and Glenn, Jack and Grace. How are you?

0:37:05 > 0:37:07I know that if I was to call on Glenn,

0:37:07 > 0:37:09he'd be down to help me straightaway.

0:37:09 > 0:37:11And vice versa. I'd do the same for him.

0:37:11 > 0:37:13- FATHER:- He's good boy. He is a good boy.

0:37:13 > 0:37:16He is a very, very, hard-working lad.

0:37:16 > 0:37:17And devoted to his family.

0:37:17 > 0:37:19I've always gotten on well with Sue,

0:37:19 > 0:37:23with her being my stepmum. We've always had a very good relationship.

0:37:23 > 0:37:24She's always there with a laugh and a smile

0:37:24 > 0:37:27and usually a glass of wine, as well.

0:37:27 > 0:37:29If I just need someone to talk to,

0:37:29 > 0:37:31and sometimes you talk to the children and...

0:37:31 > 0:37:33it lifts you.

0:37:33 > 0:37:36It gives you that feeling that...

0:37:36 > 0:37:38you've really got a purpose in life.

0:37:38 > 0:37:42Grace is a very, very caring little girl.

0:37:42 > 0:37:45If our Jack develops a sense of rugby,

0:37:45 > 0:37:47don't let them play for New Zealand.

0:37:47 > 0:37:49Bring him back home, we need him.

0:37:49 > 0:37:51Jack is his own little character.

0:37:51 > 0:37:55He can be very stubborn if he doesn't want to do something.

0:37:55 > 0:37:58There's no way you can do it unless you bribe him with some chocolate.

0:37:58 > 0:38:01I will miss you a lot when you go.

0:38:01 > 0:38:04Especially little Grace, I have to say.

0:38:04 > 0:38:07But do have a brilliant time, if you do decide to go out there.

0:38:07 > 0:38:11And don't worry at all about us, we will be absolutely fine.

0:38:11 > 0:38:14When you think that both he and Sue

0:38:14 > 0:38:18and the children are going to the other side of the world,

0:38:18 > 0:38:21and keeping in mind my age,

0:38:21 > 0:38:24it could be the last time I see them.

0:38:24 > 0:38:25It's a heck of a wrench.

0:38:25 > 0:38:27It really is.

0:38:27 > 0:38:31Whatever you decide, we will always, always be here for you.

0:38:31 > 0:38:33Love you all.

0:38:34 > 0:38:38I think your Dad saying that...it could be the last time they see us...

0:38:39 > 0:38:41That's quite harsh, because, erm...

0:38:43 > 0:38:46That's sort of taking them away from the kids,

0:38:46 > 0:38:48and the kids away from them.

0:38:48 > 0:38:49And Laura.

0:38:54 > 0:38:57Laura and Grace is such a special thing, isn't it?

0:38:58 > 0:39:00Sorry, Grace.

0:39:15 > 0:39:17Watching messages from back home

0:39:17 > 0:39:21has been a painful reminder of what the family would be leaving behind.

0:39:21 > 0:39:24Combined with Sue's concerns about spending so much time

0:39:24 > 0:39:26away from Grace and Jack,

0:39:26 > 0:39:30could the Morses' dream of a new family life in New Zealand be over?

0:39:41 > 0:39:45The family are about to decide, once and for all, where they are

0:39:45 > 0:39:49about to spend a future, and the consequences are not lost on Glenn.

0:39:49 > 0:39:51It comes down to make-your-mind-up time,

0:39:51 > 0:39:53and this is really no longer a pipe dream.

0:39:53 > 0:39:58We're talking about shall we/shan't we, could we/can't we.

0:39:58 > 0:40:00This is it.

0:40:00 > 0:40:03We now need to make up our minds - are we coming out, or are we not?

0:40:03 > 0:40:07It's the biggest decision we will ever make in our lives.

0:40:07 > 0:40:08Without a doubt.

0:40:08 > 0:40:11And we've got to get it right.

0:40:14 > 0:40:17I'm pretty sure Glenn's going to vote New Zealand,

0:40:17 > 0:40:19because I think Glenn looks at things from a practical

0:40:19 > 0:40:22rather than an emotional point of view.

0:40:22 > 0:40:26I was hoping that I would be very clear by now, erm...

0:40:26 > 0:40:30..with how I felt about things,

0:40:30 > 0:40:36and I voted New Zealand without exception, so far.

0:40:36 > 0:40:37For everything.

0:40:37 > 0:40:39Erm...

0:40:39 > 0:40:43And that almost makes it contradictory,

0:40:43 > 0:40:46but I still do feel in turmoil about the final,

0:40:46 > 0:40:48the actual final vote.

0:40:48 > 0:40:51For Glenn, moving to New Zealand seemed like the only way

0:40:51 > 0:40:54to get more quality time with the children.

0:40:54 > 0:40:56After this week, which has been very intense,

0:40:56 > 0:40:58and has answered a lot of questions for us,

0:40:58 > 0:41:01it's given us the very thing that we're looking for.

0:41:01 > 0:41:03Quality time with their kids.

0:41:03 > 0:41:06Something that we cannot achieve in the UK.

0:41:06 > 0:41:10I think it's quite feasible and quite achievable here in New Zealand.

0:41:10 > 0:41:12But it's a much harder decision for Sue,

0:41:12 > 0:41:15who's had to face the reality of what life would be like

0:41:15 > 0:41:18as the family's only earner.

0:41:18 > 0:41:21The decision literally has been...

0:41:23 > 0:41:24..the last half an hour.

0:41:24 > 0:41:27And that is...as true as I'm sat here now.

0:41:28 > 0:41:31The decision I'm going to make -

0:41:31 > 0:41:34I almost feel it rests with us -

0:41:34 > 0:41:36is fine.

0:41:42 > 0:41:45So, for better or worse, it's time for the family to choose

0:41:45 > 0:41:48between a future in New Zealand or the UK.

0:41:48 > 0:41:51We have had an absolutely amazing week this week.

0:41:51 > 0:41:54It's been full of lots of highs and lows

0:41:54 > 0:41:57and been incredibly emotional,

0:41:57 > 0:42:00and at times quite difficult.

0:42:00 > 0:42:04But based on everything that we have seen and done, we vote for...

0:42:19 > 0:42:21ALL: New Zealand.

0:42:21 > 0:42:23GRACE LAUGHS

0:42:23 > 0:42:25That's not New Zealand, you Wally!

0:42:25 > 0:42:27Did you... You voted New Zealand?

0:42:27 > 0:42:28- Yeah. And, Grace, New Zealand?- Yeah.

0:42:28 > 0:42:31- Do you think you'll be happy to live here?- Why, Grace?

0:42:31 > 0:42:35Because I just thought it would be a better place.

0:42:35 > 0:42:38With four votes for New Zealand,

0:42:38 > 0:42:41it seems the Morses have made up their mind.

0:42:41 > 0:42:43- All right?- Yeah.- Good girl.

0:42:52 > 0:42:54Wait for us! Wait for us!

0:43:01 > 0:43:03After a week of soul-searching,

0:43:03 > 0:43:07Glenn and Sue have finally decided they can give their young family

0:43:07 > 0:43:10a better future in New Zealand.

0:43:10 > 0:43:14Hopefully, their new roles will mean more time together as a family,

0:43:14 > 0:43:17making their frantic UK lifestyle a thing of the past.

0:43:17 > 0:43:19We wish them all the very best.
