0:00:02 > 0:00:05If you'd spent more than half your life believing you'd been cheated out

0:00:05 > 0:00:10of a dream life abroad, how would you go about finally making it happen?

0:00:10 > 0:00:13Especially if it meant convincing your partner to step

0:00:13 > 0:00:18into the unknown and start again on the other side of the world.

0:00:18 > 0:00:22Kirsty Etherington's been dreaming of Australia since devastating

0:00:22 > 0:00:25circumstances stopped her family moving there when she was 13.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28When I found out my mum had cancer, it was heartbreaking.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31Now, she's desperate to convince partner Chris the country

0:00:31 > 0:00:33offers son Louis a better future.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36- I just want better for Louis. - Yeah, we both do.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38But when a trial week down under opens his eyes to the

0:00:38 > 0:00:41- possibilities... - Can I say 10 out of 10 already?

0:00:41 > 0:00:43This is, like, the nicest house I've ever been in.

0:00:43 > 0:00:46Why wouldn't anyone want to come and live in a place like this?

0:00:46 > 0:00:49Will the reality of taking Louis away from family force Chris

0:00:49 > 0:00:51to call time on Kirsty's dream.

0:00:51 > 0:00:54It hits you in the guts, it's just a really hard decision to make.

0:01:20 > 0:01:24Ever since the first British settlers arrived in Botany Bay

0:01:24 > 0:01:28in the late 1700s, Australia has been deemed a land of opportunity.

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Today, the promise of greater work opportunities,

0:01:31 > 0:01:35a chilled out lifestyle and gorgeous weather continues to attract,

0:01:35 > 0:01:38and British people currently account for the largest

0:01:38 > 0:01:43portion of the country's 6 million residents originally born overseas.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45Kirsty Etherington has dreamt of living

0:01:45 > 0:01:50and Australia from the tender age of 13, when her family's plans

0:01:50 > 0:01:54to emigrate were called off after her mum was diagnosed with cancer.

0:01:54 > 0:01:58Now a mum herself, Kirsty is desperate to persuade partner

0:01:58 > 0:02:02Chris to give their son, Louis, the life she believed she missed out on.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05Though with Chris dead set against the idea,

0:02:05 > 0:02:08will a week down under be enough to bring him on board?

0:02:09 > 0:02:12The week gets under way with an arduous 19 hours

0:02:12 > 0:02:15in the air, flying from London to Perth via Singapore.

0:02:15 > 0:02:19It's 14 years since Kirsty last made the journey to stay with relatives.

0:02:19 > 0:02:22Now, with her feet finally back on Australian ground,

0:02:22 > 0:02:25she admits the trip's taken her by surprise.

0:02:25 > 0:02:27The flight seemed a lot longer that what I remember.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30This time round, I'm absolutely knackered.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32On the plus side, Chris hasn't been put off.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35It wasn't as bad as I thought, I was a little bit worried about how

0:02:35 > 0:02:37Louis was going to deal with it, to be fair.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39That was more what I was focused on.

0:02:39 > 0:02:40But, to be honest, he was a good boy.

0:02:40 > 0:02:43But after a lifetime dreaming about being back,

0:02:43 > 0:02:45Kirsty admits the experience is overwhelming.

0:02:45 > 0:02:49I know we've just been on a flight for nearly 22 hours but the distance

0:02:49 > 0:02:53hasn't kind of sunk in just yet, it's all a bit surreal at the moment.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55Kirsty will need to find her feet fast

0:02:55 > 0:02:58if she is to succeed in persuading Chris to buy into her

0:02:58 > 0:03:00hopes for their future life together.

0:03:07 > 0:03:09Back in the UK, Chris Peat

0:03:09 > 0:03:11lives with partner Kirsty Etherington

0:03:11 > 0:03:14and their two-year-old son, Louis, in a rented house in Yateley

0:03:14 > 0:03:15in Hampshire.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18The couple have been together for four years and since day one,

0:03:18 > 0:03:20Kirsty's desire to move to the other

0:03:20 > 0:03:23side of the world has been a constant talking point.

0:03:23 > 0:03:28It's my dream to go to Australia, I've kind of forced it on Chris, really.

0:03:28 > 0:03:32The day I met Kirsty was the first time I ever heard about Australia.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35Yeah, it was, "I'm a nurse and I want to move

0:03:35 > 0:03:39and live in Australia." And I said, "Well, I'm a plumber, I could come with you."

0:03:39 > 0:03:43Kirsty's obsession with the country shows no sign of letting up.

0:03:43 > 0:03:46I go on about it all the time, it's what I think about during the day.

0:03:46 > 0:03:48Even when I'm at work, I think, "I could be nursing in Australia."

0:03:48 > 0:03:51You've even got a scrapbook one of your friends has made for you

0:03:51 > 0:03:55with a big picture of Australia, going, "My dream is to live here."

0:03:55 > 0:03:59Her determination to make Australia her home stems back to childhood.

0:03:59 > 0:04:00After several holidays there,

0:04:00 > 0:04:04Kirsty's parents decided to emigrate when she was 13 but

0:04:04 > 0:04:07the move was called off when her mum was diagnosed with breast cancer.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09That was heartbreaking.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12When I found out my mum had cancer it was heartbreaking. Sorry...

0:04:19 > 0:04:23So, you now have all that treatment and everything, it was not nice.

0:04:23 > 0:04:27And my mum so wanted to move out to Australia

0:04:27 > 0:04:29because her sisters are there.

0:04:29 > 0:04:32It was heartbreaking for her because she knew that she wouldn't be

0:04:32 > 0:04:37able to go and she knew how much my sister and I wanted it.

0:04:41 > 0:04:42Fortunately, her mum recovered.

0:04:42 > 0:04:46But the dream to go back to Australia has never left Kirsty.

0:04:46 > 0:04:48Now a mum herself, she thinks moving would help Chris

0:04:48 > 0:04:52and her address the poor work-life balance they have in the UK.

0:04:52 > 0:04:55Sometimes, we're like passing ships in the night.

0:04:55 > 0:04:59You know, I come back from work, Chris has been up since 5am.

0:04:59 > 0:05:01We sort of sit down, have dinner, and we're asleep.

0:05:01 > 0:05:03I work every other weekend,

0:05:03 > 0:05:06so, we don't spend a lot of time together as a family.

0:05:06 > 0:05:09The only thing standing in Kirsty's way is Chris.

0:05:09 > 0:05:12And knowing he's desperate to extend their family,

0:05:12 > 0:05:14she's even resorted to emotional blackmail.

0:05:14 > 0:05:19The deal was that if we were to have another baby, it wouldn't be

0:05:19 > 0:05:23in this country, it wouldn't be in the UK, it would be out in Australia.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26- Quite manipulative, aren't I? - Yeah...

0:05:27 > 0:05:28Just saying...

0:05:28 > 0:05:31Chris has a list of practical concerns about moving to the

0:05:31 > 0:05:32other side of the world.

0:05:32 > 0:05:35I'm a little bit worried about the finances, obviously,

0:05:35 > 0:05:39because we don't really have much to our name, to be honest, we rent this

0:05:39 > 0:05:42place and we've got a couple of cars that aren't in the best of nick.

0:05:42 > 0:05:47I know I'm a typical English man. I don't do well with heat.

0:05:47 > 0:05:49I think one of the first things that Chris said to me

0:05:49 > 0:05:53when I said about moving out to Australia was, "They've got big spiders out there."

0:05:53 > 0:05:55Some of the big ones I see in this country,

0:05:55 > 0:05:58I think, "Wow, that's quite big. Good job it can't bite me."

0:06:00 > 0:06:04Joking aside, the single biggest reason Chris wants to stay put

0:06:04 > 0:06:06is the thought of taking Louis away from his nana

0:06:06 > 0:06:09and other family members who live nearby.

0:06:09 > 0:06:10Louis is her only grandchild

0:06:10 > 0:06:14and why would I want to take that away from her?

0:06:16 > 0:06:19You know, it's a really big decision.

0:06:19 > 0:06:22Louis would have a better life in Australia, you know, I can imagine.

0:06:22 > 0:06:26The better weather, being outside, but what he gains there

0:06:26 > 0:06:30and what he'd lose in not having his immediate

0:06:30 > 0:06:35family around, I think would affect him massively, to be honest.

0:06:35 > 0:06:39Kirsty has her own fears about leaving her family in the UK.

0:06:39 > 0:06:41I would miss them a lot.

0:06:41 > 0:06:45I'd miss my mum and my sister terribly if we went.

0:06:47 > 0:06:50But I've got to do what's best for Louis and what's best for Chris

0:06:50 > 0:06:54and what's best for me and my family.

0:06:55 > 0:06:57It's an emotionally charged situation

0:06:57 > 0:07:00but the family have reached a crossroads.

0:07:00 > 0:07:02Do they commit to their life in the UK

0:07:02 > 0:07:05or follow Kirsty's dreams back to Australia?

0:07:05 > 0:07:08Surely, something as big as this,

0:07:08 > 0:07:14you've got to be 99.9% sure that it's the right move.

0:07:14 > 0:07:18Australia has to fit everything and more.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21I think I really have to sell it to him, otherwise he's just not

0:07:21 > 0:07:25even going to consider going, it's literally got to tick all the boxes.

0:07:35 > 0:07:37Kirsty is praying that a week sampling Perth

0:07:37 > 0:07:41in Western Australia will be enough to persuade Chris to make the move.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44Their base for the week is a three- bedroom house in the rapidly

0:07:44 > 0:07:46growing suburb of Butler.

0:07:46 > 0:07:49Will Australian living be as Kirsty remembers?

0:07:49 > 0:07:52- Wow.- It's definitely bigger than our house at home.- Yeah...

0:07:52 > 0:07:57- And inside looks good too. - Oh, wow.

0:07:57 > 0:08:01- Look how big it is in here! - Oh my days.

0:08:01 > 0:08:05Despite reservations about moving to Australia, Chris seems pretty impressed.

0:08:05 > 0:08:07Can I say 10 out of 10 already?

0:08:09 > 0:08:14- This is incredible.- The house has surpassed Kirsty's expectations.

0:08:14 > 0:08:17I'd actually say there's nothing I don't like, I love it all.

0:08:17 > 0:08:22- And even in the dark, the garden's a big hit too.- Oh my days.- Oh, wow.

0:08:22 > 0:08:27- Look at that.- The hot tub outside is impressive by anyone's standards.

0:08:27 > 0:08:30Oh my gosh. The benefits of living in Australia, you can

0:08:30 > 0:08:32have you can have one of these in your garden.

0:08:32 > 0:08:34The biggest smile's on my face, this is brilliant.

0:08:34 > 0:08:36- I knew you would like that. - Brilliant.

0:08:39 > 0:08:42It's clear for Kirsty the long wait to get

0:08:42 > 0:08:44back down under has been worthwhile.

0:08:44 > 0:08:48I've been waiting 14 years to come back here and I just feel...

0:08:48 > 0:08:52There's a mixture of emotions. I just... Yeah, so happy.

0:08:52 > 0:08:54As they make themselves at home,

0:08:54 > 0:08:57Kirsty is encouraged by Chris' excitement so far.

0:08:57 > 0:08:58He's been smiling quite a lot,

0:08:58 > 0:09:01so, I think I'm sort of winning a little bit.

0:09:02 > 0:09:05Chris is well prepared for what lies ahead.

0:09:05 > 0:09:09There is no respite, where Australia is concerned, with Kirsty.

0:09:09 > 0:09:11It's the hard sell or no sell.

0:09:11 > 0:09:13But despite a positive initial reaction,

0:09:13 > 0:09:16the distance from home is starting to kick in.

0:09:16 > 0:09:19You're not a stone's throw away, you know?

0:09:21 > 0:09:23It's even going to be difficult to pick up the phone

0:09:23 > 0:09:25because you're in different time zones.

0:09:25 > 0:09:28Kirsty's pinning all her hopes on the next seven days

0:09:28 > 0:09:30and with the excitement of arriving over,

0:09:30 > 0:09:32the pressure is on for both her and Chris.

0:09:32 > 0:09:37If I don't get the questions answered that I need answering,

0:09:37 > 0:09:41then there's always going to be that element of doubt.

0:09:41 > 0:09:46Our whole lives, our future happiness is hanging on whether this

0:09:46 > 0:09:49week is going to persuade Chris to want to move out here.

0:09:56 > 0:09:59Back in the UK, Kirsty and Chris rent a two-bedroom house

0:09:59 > 0:10:02in the village of Yateley in Hampshire.

0:10:02 > 0:10:05We have previously lived in a small flat but we moved into a house

0:10:05 > 0:10:07because we needed the space and we have room for Louis

0:10:07 > 0:10:11and a room for Chris and I, and then we have this living space here and we have a kitchen.

0:10:11 > 0:10:13The couple's budget for renting a home in Australia is

0:10:13 > 0:10:18around £1,300 per month and Kirsty knows exactly what she wants.

0:10:18 > 0:10:21It would have three bedrooms and more importantly, a dining area,

0:10:21 > 0:10:25a nice living space. A swimming pool, of course.

0:10:25 > 0:10:29Close to the beach and then garden space for Louis to play in.

0:10:29 > 0:10:32But if he was to make the move, Chris would be less demanding.

0:10:32 > 0:10:35As long as I've got a patio to put my barbecue on,

0:10:35 > 0:10:39no grass for bugs to live... No, I'm just joking.

0:10:39 > 0:10:42But one thing he is certain of is that any house in Australia

0:10:42 > 0:10:45will have to be big enough to accommodate a growing family.

0:10:45 > 0:10:47If we are going to Australia, we're having another child,

0:10:47 > 0:10:49that was the deal.

0:10:58 > 0:11:01To find out what kind of house they could actually have in Australia,

0:11:01 > 0:11:04today, we'll show Chris and Kirsty three properties.

0:11:04 > 0:11:08Two on budget and a third which could be their dream home.

0:11:08 > 0:11:11Only after they've seen each one will they find out its value.

0:11:13 > 0:11:14For their first viewing,

0:11:14 > 0:11:18the family head 25 miles north of Perth to Alkimos.

0:11:18 > 0:11:21Close to the beaches, this brand-new suburb is still under construction,

0:11:21 > 0:11:24but with plans for parks, playgrounds and schools,

0:11:24 > 0:11:27it could be perfect for young families.

0:11:27 > 0:11:31But will this house be the one to sell Australian living to Chris?

0:11:31 > 0:11:35There's quite a lot of building work going on over here.

0:11:35 > 0:11:36Hopefully inside will be better.

0:11:36 > 0:11:39Right, let's have a look at what we've got in here.

0:11:40 > 0:11:42- Oh, OK.- Oh, wow.- I like this.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45This isn't as open plan as the accommodation.

0:11:45 > 0:11:48Straight away, Chris finds fault with the sleeping arrangements.

0:11:48 > 0:11:52I don't know how much I like having the master bedroom at the front door, though.

0:11:52 > 0:11:55It's kind of something you have to live with, isn't it, really?

0:11:55 > 0:11:58- Something you have to adjust to. - Is that a rule for Australia, is it?

0:11:58 > 0:12:00Every master bedroom's got to be at the front door?

0:12:02 > 0:12:05Don't know how I feel about that, really.

0:12:05 > 0:12:06Determined to keep it light,

0:12:06 > 0:12:09Kirsty shifts Chris' attention to the en-suite.

0:12:09 > 0:12:11Love it! Fits my taste.

0:12:11 > 0:12:14It's Australia, I think it would just suit your taste anyway.

0:12:14 > 0:12:16OK, fair enough.

0:12:16 > 0:12:19Chris isn't falling for Kirsty's sales pitch so far

0:12:19 > 0:12:23but discovering a space for Louis does make him smile.

0:12:23 > 0:12:26- Oh, wow, look at this!- Oh, brilliant!- This is like a playroom.

0:12:26 > 0:12:30- This is awesome.- Two more bedrooms also score points.

0:12:30 > 0:12:33This is a little girl's room.

0:12:33 > 0:12:36So, you've got, maybe, the boy's room, the girl's room and the play area.

0:12:36 > 0:12:39Yeah, children's area, together. I love that.

0:12:39 > 0:12:40But does Chris?

0:12:40 > 0:12:43I'm not in love with it but I definitely like it

0:12:43 > 0:12:45and it's different to what we've got at home.

0:12:45 > 0:12:48I could sort of see myself living in a place like this.

0:12:48 > 0:12:51- And they haven't seen the half of it yet.- Wow.

0:12:51 > 0:12:54- So, this is the bigger living area, then?- Another living area.

0:12:54 > 0:12:57The whole kitchen/living area seems to be how it works in Australia.

0:12:57 > 0:13:01This house is matching Kirsty's memories of Australian living

0:13:01 > 0:13:05- but a wander into the garden changes everything.- Oh, dear.

0:13:05 > 0:13:09- Well, this isn't very big, is it? - Oh, how disappointing.- Right.

0:13:09 > 0:13:11This is a really small garden.

0:13:11 > 0:13:14It's not the garden Kirsty based her dreams on.

0:13:14 > 0:13:16I'm really actually gutted.

0:13:16 > 0:13:19I'm really gutted, cos I love the rest of the house.

0:13:19 > 0:13:21And then, to come out here and there be no garden,

0:13:21 > 0:13:23I'm really disappointed.

0:13:23 > 0:13:27It's not the ideal finish, but could they afford a house like this?

0:13:27 > 0:13:32- Our budget is, what, £1,300 a month? - £1,200-1,300 a month, so...

0:13:32 > 0:13:36- That's English pounds. - I would say, probably, about £1,500.

0:13:38 > 0:13:42OK, well, I would say about... I'm saying just over, about £1,350.

0:13:49 > 0:13:52- Are we ready, then? - OK. Louis, are you going to turn over the card for Mummy?

0:13:55 > 0:13:57- Oh, wow!- Wow.- So, it's £990 a month.

0:13:59 > 0:14:00I'm gobsmacked.

0:14:00 > 0:14:04I'm actually really shocked cos I was expecting it to be a lot more.

0:14:04 > 0:14:05That's got to be because of the construction

0:14:05 > 0:14:09- and the small garden, isn't it? - I'm really pleased.

0:14:09 > 0:14:10Really pleased, actually.

0:14:10 > 0:14:15£310 below budget is a great result which could certainly help

0:14:15 > 0:14:17Kirsty sell the merits of life down under.

0:14:17 > 0:14:21So, will the next house offer extra outside space at a price

0:14:21 > 0:14:22they can still afford?

0:14:24 > 0:14:27To find out, the couple move to the coastal suburb of Kinross.

0:14:27 > 0:14:30More established and boasting beaches, parks, shopping

0:14:30 > 0:14:34and schools, this area should be perfect for the family.

0:14:34 > 0:14:36But will this four-bedroom bungalow match Kirsty's

0:14:36 > 0:14:40expectations inside and out?

0:14:40 > 0:14:44I like the area. There's no building work going on, which is good.

0:14:44 > 0:14:47- Another bungalow though, isn't it? - Yeah.

0:14:47 > 0:14:49Hopefully, that won't be an issue.

0:14:49 > 0:14:52Right, so, this is a bit more like home, isn't it?

0:14:52 > 0:14:55But the interiors aren't as modern as the last house.

0:14:55 > 0:14:59I don't know if I like this one straight away.

0:15:00 > 0:15:03I was quite wowed with the other one, I'm not wowed with this one.

0:15:03 > 0:15:08- And Chris spots a familiar flaw. - Master bedroom by the front door.

0:15:08 > 0:15:12- Yeah. I do like this room, though.- The main bathroom's interesting...

0:15:12 > 0:15:15- This is nice.- Is it nice?

0:15:15 > 0:15:17- I don't know.- No...

0:15:17 > 0:15:19I don't like it. No, I don't really like the bathroom.

0:15:19 > 0:15:22Well, this is the children's bathroom, isn't it?

0:15:22 > 0:15:25Kirsty's chances of convincing Chris that Aussie living's for him

0:15:25 > 0:15:26could be slipping.

0:15:26 > 0:15:28If I was going to move,

0:15:28 > 0:15:30I'd have to move for something that is going to give me

0:15:30 > 0:15:36that "Wow!" factor and I haven't had it so far from this property.

0:15:36 > 0:15:37Even with the dining area they want,

0:15:37 > 0:15:40Kirsty reluctantly agrees Chris has a point.

0:15:40 > 0:15:44It still feels kind of a bit claustrophobic.

0:15:44 > 0:15:47It doesn't feel that open, it doesn't feel that modern.

0:15:47 > 0:15:49And the kitchen leaves them both cold.

0:15:49 > 0:15:51- I don't know, it doesn't tick... - Feels really dated.

0:15:51 > 0:15:53It's not ticking the boxes for me.

0:15:53 > 0:15:56The traditional decor's definitely not for them

0:15:56 > 0:16:01- but hopefully what lies outside is. - Louis, look! What's that?

0:16:01 > 0:16:06- Is that a swimming pool? - Can you see?- Wow!

0:16:07 > 0:16:09Complete with its own pool,

0:16:09 > 0:16:12this garden knocks the last one out of the water.

0:16:12 > 0:16:13And triggering childhood memories,

0:16:13 > 0:16:16it reminds Kirsty of what she wants for Louis.

0:16:16 > 0:16:18Seeing him running around the garden

0:16:18 > 0:16:22and splashing about in this pool just makes me realise this is

0:16:22 > 0:16:27definitely what I want and I really want to hope that you want it too.

0:16:27 > 0:16:30So, if we can find the right house...

0:16:30 > 0:16:33Chris isn't committing to anything yet but back inside,

0:16:33 > 0:16:37he agrees the pool has bathed the house in a more positive light.

0:16:37 > 0:16:40Everything seems to look a little bit nicer in here now, doesn't it?

0:16:40 > 0:16:42Yeah.

0:16:42 > 0:16:43Unlike the last property,

0:16:43 > 0:16:46outside's proved a real selling point, but with

0:16:46 > 0:16:51£1,300 for rent every month, can the couple afford a place with a pool?

0:16:51 > 0:16:53I'm thinking maybe £1,400-1,500 a month.

0:16:53 > 0:16:54I'd say about £1,700 a month.

0:17:00 > 0:17:02Turn it over.

0:17:03 > 0:17:07- Oh, wow!- That is bang on the budget.- Yeah.

0:17:07 > 0:17:10I'm actually gobsmacked, it was everything I wanted for Louis,

0:17:10 > 0:17:13- which is what I had when I was younger.- Awesome, I'm chuffed.

0:17:13 > 0:17:14I'm happy as well.

0:17:14 > 0:17:17The day's going better than Kirsty had dared hope

0:17:17 > 0:17:19and there's still one more property to view.

0:17:23 > 0:17:27Moving 25 miles north of central Perth, we've found what

0:17:27 > 0:17:31we believe could be the family's dream home in the suburb of Quinns Rocks.

0:17:31 > 0:17:33Close to schools, playgrounds and beaches,

0:17:33 > 0:17:36the area has everything the family could need.

0:17:36 > 0:17:38Hopefully, the house will be a winner.

0:17:38 > 0:17:43- Wow.- You've arrived to your palace, Queen.

0:17:43 > 0:17:45Inside's pretty grand, too.

0:17:45 > 0:17:51- Wow.- Wow.- What a front reception room.- I'm actually speechless.

0:17:51 > 0:17:53And finally, a house that doesn't have bedrooms on the other

0:17:53 > 0:17:55side of the front door.

0:17:55 > 0:17:58- Not a master bedroom.- Yeah! No master bedroom.

0:17:58 > 0:18:00Wow, I'm excited!

0:18:00 > 0:18:02If this is what it's like when we've just stepped in...

0:18:08 > 0:18:11This house has the "Wow!" factor and the modern open plan living

0:18:11 > 0:18:16- area offers the family all the space they could need.- My God...

0:18:16 > 0:18:19God, this room is bigger than our house at home!

0:18:19 > 0:18:22Look at the size of the kitchen.

0:18:22 > 0:18:25- Yeah, I don't think I'd change this one.- Chris sounds smitten.

0:18:25 > 0:18:28This is, like, the nicest house I've been ever in.

0:18:28 > 0:18:30It's got a breakfast bar as well.

0:18:30 > 0:18:32This is exactly what I had in my mind.

0:18:32 > 0:18:34Well, touche, because this is really, really nice.

0:18:34 > 0:18:39This house is helping Kirsty picture her vision of her family's future.

0:18:39 > 0:18:44This is the dream, this is what I want.

0:18:44 > 0:18:46And Louis knows what he wants, too...

0:18:46 > 0:18:48Let's go outside.

0:18:48 > 0:18:51The garden's well worth a look, with space for Louis to play

0:18:51 > 0:18:55and a swimming pool, what more could the family ask for?

0:18:55 > 0:18:58There's not a lot of grass, but who needs grass?

0:18:58 > 0:18:59And you've got a swimming pool...

0:18:59 > 0:19:03He's got so much playing space, doesn't he? I'm gobsmacked.

0:19:03 > 0:19:07It's more than lived up to Kirsty's expectations.

0:19:07 > 0:19:10- That is perfect.- Wow.

0:19:10 > 0:19:14- That is absolutely perfect. Do you like the swimming pool, Louis?- Yeah.

0:19:14 > 0:19:16- Do you want a swimming pool?- Yeah.

0:19:16 > 0:19:19Back inside, Chris is eager to see what's upstairs.

0:19:19 > 0:19:22- I can't believe I'm saying let's go upstairs.- Yeah!

0:19:22 > 0:19:26- This is, like, another living space. - Yeah, upstairs chillout room.

0:19:26 > 0:19:32- Oh, my gosh. - And the piece de resistance, a master bedroom fit for fairytales.

0:19:32 > 0:19:34This is the queen of the castle, eh?

0:19:34 > 0:19:38Don't even tell me you can see the ocean from here as well. Wow...

0:19:38 > 0:19:43- Oh, wow!- Wow, what a bedroom.

0:19:43 > 0:19:47The house has garnered a great reaction from Kirsty and Chris.

0:19:47 > 0:19:49From the moment I left here 14 years ago,

0:19:49 > 0:19:51this is the kind of house I wanted to live in.

0:19:51 > 0:19:54But will the price put Kirsty's dream out of reach?

0:19:54 > 0:19:59With £1,300 to spend on rent every month, it's time to find out.

0:19:59 > 0:20:04I think the price for this property is about £2,400 per month.

0:20:04 > 0:20:08I say £2,000, I think, maybe.

0:20:14 > 0:20:17- So, how much is it, Louis?- How much?

0:20:19 > 0:20:24- £1,700 a month. - Wow, £1,700 a month. Wow.

0:20:25 > 0:20:27I feel totally overwhelmed, actually.

0:20:27 > 0:20:31I feel really quite emotional, actually.

0:20:31 > 0:20:34It's a long time that I've wanted to come back here and see

0:20:34 > 0:20:37if I could live here and it's...

0:20:37 > 0:20:40Everything I've seen so far, you know,

0:20:40 > 0:20:44is making it more of a possibility and not so much of a dream any more.

0:20:44 > 0:20:47I can't really fault a lot of it at the moment, it's...

0:20:48 > 0:20:52Why wouldn't anyone want to come and live in a place like this?

0:20:52 > 0:20:53Despite ending in tears,

0:20:53 > 0:20:57househunting's been a joy for Kirsty and Chris.

0:20:57 > 0:20:59Property one had everything they needed inside

0:20:59 > 0:21:02but the tiny garden left Kirsty deflated,

0:21:02 > 0:21:05until she discovered it was over £300 under budget.

0:21:05 > 0:21:09Property two failed to deliver the modern interiors the couple prefer,

0:21:09 > 0:21:11but finding a garden with a pool

0:21:11 > 0:21:14brought back happy memories for Kirsty.

0:21:14 > 0:21:18But the final property was the real jewel in the crown,

0:21:18 > 0:21:22and at just £400 over budget, it was something to aspire to.

0:21:22 > 0:21:26The day has definitely reinforced Kirsty's dream,

0:21:26 > 0:21:28but has it done enough to help her persuade Chris to choose

0:21:28 > 0:21:31property in Australia over the UK?

0:21:31 > 0:21:34After seeing all the properties today, it's time for us to vote.

0:21:45 > 0:21:49ALL: Australia!

0:21:49 > 0:21:53- You going for Australia as well, young man?- Yay!- Well done.

0:21:53 > 0:21:55Brilliant, yes. We're all agreed, then.

0:21:55 > 0:21:58For the amount of money we can spend and what we can get over here...

0:21:58 > 0:22:03- Compared to what we can in the UK, yes.- You'd be foolish not to, really.

0:22:03 > 0:22:04Yeah.

0:22:12 > 0:22:15Chris' vote for Australia's a great result for Kirsty,

0:22:15 > 0:22:18edging her a step closer to the life she desperately wants.

0:22:18 > 0:22:21But with both the couple sold on the dream home,

0:22:21 > 0:22:23Kirsty knows her hopes could grind to a halt

0:22:23 > 0:22:27if the couple can't find jobs paying the salaries they need.

0:22:29 > 0:22:31At home, Kirsty's a registered nurse,

0:22:31 > 0:22:35- currently working at a prison hospital.- I do enjoy my job

0:22:35 > 0:22:37but it is just extremely stressful

0:22:37 > 0:22:40because of the kind of environment I work in.

0:22:40 > 0:22:42Chris joined the company he works for ten years ago

0:22:42 > 0:22:45as an apprentice and is now a qualified gas heating engineer.

0:22:45 > 0:22:49This isn't your run-of-the-mill sort of domestic pipe work.

0:22:49 > 0:22:53This is your more industrial and commercial environment.

0:22:53 > 0:22:57If they move to Australia, Kirsty knows exactly what she'd like from her job.

0:22:57 > 0:22:59Better hours, better pay, more support

0:22:59 > 0:23:02and out of the prison environment.

0:23:02 > 0:23:05But Chris is much less certain about his work prospects.

0:23:05 > 0:23:08She can go and work in a hospital. There's plenty of hospitals.

0:23:08 > 0:23:11But is there always going to be a place like this where I can work?

0:23:11 > 0:23:15It's definitely important that the right job is out there for me.

0:23:20 > 0:23:24Kirsty's praying Chris will get the answers he needs today.

0:23:24 > 0:23:28If he doesn't get the right job then...

0:23:28 > 0:23:30we might as well forget about it.

0:23:30 > 0:23:32While Chris has his own fears.

0:23:32 > 0:23:36Am I going to turn up and I've got to retrain and take a step back?

0:23:36 > 0:23:39That would really be a bit of a disappointing day for me.

0:23:39 > 0:23:43Kirsty's visiting the A & E department at the Joondalup Health Campus,

0:23:43 > 0:23:46where she meets nurse manager Vanessa Chan.

0:23:46 > 0:23:49I qualified a year ago.

0:23:49 > 0:23:53Would there be opportunities for me with my level of experience?

0:23:53 > 0:23:56When I look at people's CV, I generally look for

0:23:56 > 0:23:59at least three years' experience in an emergency setting,

0:23:59 > 0:24:03- if this is the area they want to go for.- Yeah. So a bit more experience.

0:24:03 > 0:24:06It's not the news Kirsty was wanting.

0:24:06 > 0:24:08Hopefully things will be better for Chris.

0:24:10 > 0:24:12Good afternoon. I'm Chris.

0:24:12 > 0:24:15He's meeting Kevin Stewart, who owns a mechanical services company,

0:24:15 > 0:24:18specialising in refrigeration and air conditioning.

0:24:18 > 0:24:20Do you feel there would be a scope for me

0:24:20 > 0:24:23to get employed over in Western Australia?

0:24:23 > 0:24:25Well, the basic concept of what you've got,

0:24:25 > 0:24:27I call it as a gas fitter.

0:24:27 > 0:24:31There is no direct job in Western Australia as a gas fitter.

0:24:31 > 0:24:33- Right.- We don't have that category

0:24:33 > 0:24:36because we don't have gas heating as a form of heating.

0:24:36 > 0:24:40West Australia has more cooling, so everything is based on cooling.

0:24:40 > 0:24:42It is the worst possible news.

0:24:42 > 0:24:45But surely, there's something Chris could turn his skills to?

0:24:45 > 0:24:50You've got some of the skill set required as refrigeration mechanic.

0:24:50 > 0:24:53Refrigeration mechanics are in short supply in Australia and in WA,

0:24:53 > 0:24:55they are in extremely short supply.

0:24:55 > 0:24:57That's more encouraging,

0:24:57 > 0:24:59until Chris realises qualifying for a job

0:24:59 > 0:25:02as a refrigeration mechanic means retraining.

0:25:02 > 0:25:04It's a four-year course from start to finish

0:25:04 > 0:25:07but I would believe you would probably fast track it

0:25:07 > 0:25:10because you'd get out some pipe skills and may be able

0:25:10 > 0:25:12to fast track it for two-and-a-half years.

0:25:12 > 0:25:15Chris' biggest fear was having to retrain.

0:25:15 > 0:25:18This could have a devastating effect on Kirsty's plans.

0:25:18 > 0:25:20On the plus side, back at the hospital,

0:25:20 > 0:25:25she's assured that with experience, she could easily find work.

0:25:25 > 0:25:29Absolutely. I would confidently say 8/10 nurses here are from the UK.

0:25:29 > 0:25:32I'm surrounded by nurses from the UK.

0:25:32 > 0:25:36With a poor work/life balance at home, Kirsty is keen to know

0:25:36 > 0:25:38if this could improve in Australia.

0:25:38 > 0:25:42- What are the shift patterns? - We have all sorts of hours.

0:25:42 > 0:25:45Four-hour shifts, six-hour shifts, eight-hour shifts,

0:25:45 > 0:25:47- to suit everybody's needs. - That's really great.

0:25:47 > 0:25:49Again, it's encouraging news.

0:25:49 > 0:25:52All Kirsty needs to know now is how the money compares.

0:25:52 > 0:25:56So, generally, for a registered nurse it works out to be

0:25:56 > 0:26:03- approximately AU60,000 per year. - OK.- £35,300.

0:26:03 > 0:26:06If I was working in a hospital I'd be earning £21,000

0:26:06 > 0:26:09so that is significantly more than what I would earn.

0:26:09 > 0:26:12Kirsty could almost double her salary.

0:26:12 > 0:26:15It's the biggest incentive yet for working towards a career in Perth.

0:26:15 > 0:26:20I'm a bit disheartened, the fact that I need a little bit more experience.

0:26:20 > 0:26:22But there has to be a compromise somewhere.

0:26:22 > 0:26:24If I can earn more money here in Australia

0:26:24 > 0:26:27but it means I need more experience then, you know, I'm happy with that.

0:26:27 > 0:26:30Meanwhile, discussing his options,

0:26:30 > 0:26:33it looks like the situation for Chris isn't as bad as first feared.

0:26:33 > 0:26:36Kevin has explained that mature apprenticeships

0:26:36 > 0:26:40would enable him to work as a trade's assistant while retraining.

0:26:40 > 0:26:43What sort of salary do you think that would sort of get me?

0:26:43 > 0:26:48I would say about 45-48,000, which would probably, your language,

0:26:48 > 0:26:51- £27-£28,000 a year.- Wow.

0:26:51 > 0:26:55That is really only a few grand less than what I'm making

0:26:55 > 0:26:58now as an advanced fitter.

0:26:58 > 0:27:02And with some experience, Chris could stand to earn much more.

0:27:02 > 0:27:06A good refrigeration mechanic would probably be on around 120,000,

0:27:06 > 0:27:09which, in your language, about £70,000.

0:27:09 > 0:27:11HE EXHALES

0:27:12 > 0:27:14Where do I sign up?

0:27:14 > 0:27:17There's no poor refrigeration mechanics in Australia.

0:27:17 > 0:27:19The day has been filled with ups and downs and when Kirsty

0:27:19 > 0:27:24and Chris reunite, she is keen to pepper her bad news with good.

0:27:24 > 0:27:27One of the downsides is that I need to have a bit more experience.

0:27:27 > 0:27:29But, but, but, the good thing with that

0:27:29 > 0:27:33is that when I do get experience and I can apply for a job,

0:27:33 > 0:27:40- my starting salary would be about £35,000 a year.- Oh, wow.

0:27:40 > 0:27:42Which is really good.

0:27:42 > 0:27:45Chris gets to the point with this news too.

0:27:45 > 0:27:49- I've got to retrain.- Oh, no! - Yeah, unfortunately.- No!

0:27:51 > 0:27:54OK, and how would you feel about, like, retraining?

0:27:54 > 0:27:58To be brutally honest I don't want to retrain but you've got to take

0:27:58 > 0:28:00one step back, maybe, to take ten steps forward.

0:28:00 > 0:28:03With Kirsty needing more experience and Chris retraining,

0:28:03 > 0:28:06will the couple decide work in Australia

0:28:06 > 0:28:09is worth pursuing or stick with employment at home?

0:28:09 > 0:28:11Time for us to vote.

0:28:20 > 0:28:23BOTH: Australia!

0:28:23 > 0:28:27- You went with Australia! - Yeah, well...

0:28:27 > 0:28:30- As a quite well paid apprentice, you know.- Yeah. Brilliant.

0:28:30 > 0:28:33Up until this point, this is something I've been

0:28:33 > 0:28:38dreaming about and it's almost, like, you know...

0:28:38 > 0:28:40It's going to come true, hopefully.

0:28:49 > 0:28:53Kirsty is delighted with how the week is working out so far.

0:28:53 > 0:28:58Chris's second vote for Australia is the clearest sign yet

0:28:58 > 0:29:01bit by bit, his resolve is being chipped away.

0:29:01 > 0:29:05Now she's hoping a day exploring the Antipodean lifestyle

0:29:05 > 0:29:09she remembers will take Chris another step in the right direction.

0:29:13 > 0:29:16Back in the UK, Kirsty and Chris's worklife

0:29:16 > 0:29:19means family days out are a rarity.

0:29:19 > 0:29:21Making the most of some time together,

0:29:21 > 0:29:24the family heads to the seaside city of Fremantle.

0:29:32 > 0:29:38- A big boat!- Yeah, it's a big boat! - Bye-bye, captain.- Good boy.

0:29:38 > 0:29:40The area is popular with tourists

0:29:40 > 0:29:44and a walk around the main street takes Kirsty down memory lane.

0:29:44 > 0:29:47- It's nice round here. I like this. - Exactly how I remember it.

0:29:47 > 0:29:51- What do kangaroos do, Louis? - Hop, hop, hop.

0:29:51 > 0:29:53With so much to see, the family get a bird's eye view

0:29:53 > 0:29:55from the sky view Ferris wheel.

0:29:57 > 0:30:00It's even more family-oriented than what I remember.

0:30:02 > 0:30:04Next, a trip to the park.

0:30:04 > 0:30:07- This is so much better than a park would be in the UK.- Definitely.

0:30:07 > 0:30:10I mean, they try but they don't ever have anything like this, do they?

0:30:10 > 0:30:12We just don't have the weather for it, do we?

0:30:12 > 0:30:15Louis is taking Aussie living in his stride.

0:30:15 > 0:30:19He's just loving the Australian lifestyle and it's just, so...

0:30:19 > 0:30:21I am in awe of it, I just love it.

0:30:21 > 0:30:24Seeing how much fun Louis is having

0:30:24 > 0:30:27takes Kirsty back to her previous trips down under.

0:30:27 > 0:30:33These are the kind of memories I have of my childhood

0:30:33 > 0:30:36and this is the kind of memories I want Louis to have.

0:30:36 > 0:30:38Louis, give Mummy a big cuddle.

0:30:47 > 0:30:53- I just want... I just want better for Louis.- Yeah. We both do.

0:30:53 > 0:30:55Come on.

0:30:55 > 0:30:58Chris is torn between giving Louis the childhood Kirsty wants for him

0:30:58 > 0:31:00and being on the other side of the world

0:31:00 > 0:31:02from everyone he loves back home.

0:31:02 > 0:31:07I'm in a predicament where I'm weighing up my son's future

0:31:07 > 0:31:12and his path in life for staying with my family and friends.

0:31:14 > 0:31:20And I say, if we're being positive, it just hits you in the guts

0:31:20 > 0:31:23and it's a really hard decision to make.

0:31:23 > 0:31:25It's a tough call.

0:31:25 > 0:31:28Determined to enjoy the day, the family go for a picnic,

0:31:28 > 0:31:30also enabling Chris to do some fishing.

0:31:30 > 0:31:34But despite the serene setting, there's tension in the air.

0:31:34 > 0:31:37You seem like you enjoyed it today but it's something, like,

0:31:37 > 0:31:40- you're reserved about something. - No, I'm just thinking.

0:31:40 > 0:31:42It's a lot to take in, I suppose.

0:31:42 > 0:31:44It is a lot to take in, you know,

0:31:44 > 0:31:48taking the bear away from the family, you know.

0:31:48 > 0:31:51Although the past two days have proved positive,

0:31:51 > 0:31:54it seems the distance from home has really kicked in with Chris.

0:31:54 > 0:31:58If you could just pick up your life and put it here, in Australia,

0:31:58 > 0:32:01- that would be perfect.- Wouldn't it be? Wouldn't that be the best?

0:32:01 > 0:32:03If everyone could be here with us.

0:32:04 > 0:32:09It's clear Kirsty's dream isn't in the bag yet but has the day

0:32:09 > 0:32:12been enough to whet Chris' appetite for the Australian lifestyle?

0:32:12 > 0:32:14OK, it's time to vote.

0:32:22 > 0:32:24ALL: Australia!

0:32:27 > 0:32:30Great. I'm really pleased we've all voted the same.

0:32:30 > 0:32:33We could have a weekend of strolling around there every weekend.

0:32:33 > 0:32:36I mean, wow! Why wouldn't I vote Australia?

0:32:36 > 0:32:38It's much better than the UK.

0:32:44 > 0:32:47Notwithstanding Chris's conflicting emotions,

0:32:47 > 0:32:49the Australian lifestyle's proved a winner.

0:32:49 > 0:32:51But before Kirsty gets too carried away,

0:32:51 > 0:32:55the couple need to be convinced the move won't leave them out of pocket.

0:32:55 > 0:32:57While Louis takes a nap,

0:32:57 > 0:33:00they figure out how living costs in Australia compare with the UK.

0:33:00 > 0:33:05We've provided the financial facts, starting with the weekly food shop.

0:33:05 > 0:33:10- Milk is cheaper. That's 30p cheaper. - Bananas, £2.40.- Wow!

0:33:10 > 0:33:15- OK, and we eat quite a few bananas. - Louis eats quite a few bananas.

0:33:15 > 0:33:20- I'm a bit disappointed that things are...- Generally more expensive.

0:33:20 > 0:33:22Generally more expensive.

0:33:22 > 0:33:24A quick tot-up of prices reveals how much

0:33:24 > 0:33:27they will spend on groceries each week.

0:33:27 > 0:33:31118. 63...

0:33:33 > 0:33:36Moving would mean spending nearly £15 more a week.

0:33:36 > 0:33:38That's not too bad but it depends on, you know,

0:33:38 > 0:33:43- the other costs that we have. - Let's have a look at the big stuff.

0:33:43 > 0:33:45The couple's calculations are based on rent

0:33:45 > 0:33:48for the second property they saw.

0:33:48 > 0:33:52The council tax is zero here in Australia. Wow!

0:33:52 > 0:33:55- They don't pay council tax! - So, childcare.

0:33:55 > 0:34:00So, that's pretty much the same. That is a shame, isn't it?

0:34:00 > 0:34:04It's a big blow. Kirsty was hoping childcare would be cheaper.

0:34:04 > 0:34:07My other worry is, you know, if we were to have any other children,

0:34:07 > 0:34:10we'd have to pay childcare costs for them as well and it would be more.

0:34:10 > 0:34:14So, how much more would the couple spend every month in Australia?

0:34:14 > 0:34:20We're worse off by £152.07 per month.

0:34:23 > 0:34:26- No!- Yep.

0:34:28 > 0:34:33- Try not to get too down about it. - It's just more expensive, isn't it?

0:34:33 > 0:34:36This could be where Kirsty's dream unravels.

0:34:36 > 0:34:38Taking into account their Australian salaries,

0:34:38 > 0:34:41Chris works out their overall finances down under.

0:34:41 > 0:34:43With a press of this button, in Australia,

0:34:43 > 0:34:47- we are better or worse off... - I actually don't want to know.

0:34:47 > 0:34:51Better off by £392.93.

0:34:53 > 0:34:56- Wow!- Per month.

0:34:56 > 0:35:00So, even with things costing more, we're still better off.

0:35:00 > 0:35:02That's such a relief

0:35:02 > 0:35:05because I just really thought that was going to be...

0:35:05 > 0:35:07- Has that feeling gone, has it?- Yeah.

0:35:07 > 0:35:09I thought that was going to be it, you know.

0:35:09 > 0:35:12I thought that we're not going to be able to afford to live here,

0:35:12 > 0:35:15so that's kind of where it ends. But we're going to be much better off.

0:35:15 > 0:35:20Per year, the family would be almost £5,000 better off.

0:35:20 > 0:35:23My mum will be over the moon, I mean,

0:35:23 > 0:35:26that we can earn so much more money here, we'd be financially better off.

0:35:26 > 0:35:31- It just gives us more opportunities. - We're all right.

0:35:31 > 0:35:35- It just means a lot to you, doesn't it?- It does mean a lot to me.

0:35:35 > 0:35:39Kirsty's dream survives another day and as the couple prepare to choose

0:35:39 > 0:35:44between finances down under and the UK, the outcome seems certain.

0:35:44 > 0:35:46BOTH: Australia!

0:35:46 > 0:35:50- You voted Australia! - A no-brainer really, isn't it?

0:35:50 > 0:35:52Why wouldn't you want to live somewhere where you could

0:35:52 > 0:35:54have more disposable income?

0:35:55 > 0:35:57Enough said, really.

0:36:01 > 0:36:05After a lifetime of longing, Kirsty's dream is almost

0:36:05 > 0:36:08within grasp but for Chris, the greatest challenge lies ahead.

0:36:08 > 0:36:11Coming to terms with leaving loved ones in the UK.

0:36:11 > 0:36:14As they prepare to watch messages from family and friends,

0:36:14 > 0:36:17Kirsty knows the emotional cost of the move

0:36:17 > 0:36:20could completely cancel out any potential gains.

0:36:21 > 0:36:24This is bound to be the hardest bit, isn't it?

0:36:24 > 0:36:27- Everything has been going well so far, hasn't it?- Well, yeah.

0:36:27 > 0:36:30It's maybe gone too well so far, hasn't it?

0:36:32 > 0:36:35- Good boy.- Good boy.

0:36:36 > 0:36:40Hi. Hello. How is it all going out there?

0:36:40 > 0:36:43I bet you're having a fantastic time.

0:36:43 > 0:36:45Hi, Kirsty, Chris and Louis.

0:36:45 > 0:36:49As a family, they're really tight.

0:36:49 > 0:36:52I think me and Christopher have got closer over the years.

0:36:52 > 0:36:55As he's got older, he's got a bit more mature.

0:36:55 > 0:36:57He's turned into a wonderful dad, looking after the family

0:36:57 > 0:37:00and creating the family life for them all.

0:37:00 > 0:37:02And I think it's a wonderful achievement.

0:37:02 > 0:37:04We're very proud of him.

0:37:04 > 0:37:09Louis is... He's just amazing.

0:37:09 > 0:37:13I really, really love him. I'd do absolutely anything for him.

0:37:13 > 0:37:20He is the most adorable little boy who seems to charm everybody.

0:37:20 > 0:37:24Kirsty and I have been through a lot together

0:37:24 > 0:37:26so we're more like best friends.

0:37:26 > 0:37:29You know, she took on the mum role when I was really poorly

0:37:29 > 0:37:32and we sort of worked together to get through it.

0:37:32 > 0:37:35It was a lot of... It was a lot at 14.

0:37:37 > 0:37:41I mean, it was a lot for me so I don't know how it must have been for Kirsty.

0:37:41 > 0:37:43And she was just wonderful.

0:37:43 > 0:37:47To be quite honest, I look back and I don't think I could have done it without her.

0:37:47 > 0:37:50Australia is such a long way away.

0:37:51 > 0:37:57I think the split from Chris, Kirsty and Louis is just something

0:37:57 > 0:38:01that is, for a grandmother, it's not something that you would want.

0:38:01 > 0:38:06Yeah, I'd just miss probably not seeing her everyday.

0:38:09 > 0:38:11Or seeing my nephew.

0:38:13 > 0:38:19I will miss you terribly if you decide to move.

0:38:19 > 0:38:24Whichever way you decide, I'm still here and I love you.

0:38:26 > 0:38:28We do love you, we miss you.

0:38:28 > 0:38:31But we know you'll make the right decision.

0:38:31 > 0:38:35And we will support you all the way through.

0:38:35 > 0:38:37OK, guys.

0:38:37 > 0:38:40I love you both and I love that boy even more.

0:38:40 > 0:38:43I just want you to be happy and I want you to live your dreams.

0:38:43 > 0:38:47So, please, I'll be fine. I've got a lot of support here.

0:38:47 > 0:38:50Don't worry about me. As I've always said to you, leave tomorrow behind.

0:38:50 > 0:38:53Live for now. And live for the future.

0:38:57 > 0:38:59How was that for you, baby?

0:39:02 > 0:39:04Horrible!

0:39:07 > 0:39:12- It was horrible. - Was it worse than you expected?

0:39:12 > 0:39:15My little man's brought everyone so much closer together and,

0:39:15 > 0:39:21I mean, it would be a shame to move him away from everyone, really.

0:39:21 > 0:39:25I thought it would be easier. I thought it would be easier.

0:39:25 > 0:39:28I thought if something was the right decision

0:39:28 > 0:39:34then watching that would be easier, if that makes sense.

0:39:34 > 0:39:38You know, I went through a lot with my sister and my mum

0:39:38 > 0:39:40and to leave them would just be...

0:39:42 > 0:39:44Harder than you imagined.

0:39:46 > 0:39:48It's a long way away.

0:39:54 > 0:39:58Seeing messages from home was heartbreaking and ironically,

0:39:58 > 0:40:01it was Kirsty who was hit hardest

0:40:01 > 0:40:04as she was forced to confront the reality of being on the other side

0:40:04 > 0:40:07of the world from her mum and sister.

0:40:07 > 0:40:10With her family's future at stake, will the life Kirsty

0:40:10 > 0:40:14so desperately wanted remain nothing more than a dream?

0:40:20 > 0:40:24From the age of 13, Kirsty's longed to be back in Australia

0:40:24 > 0:40:26and the country has lived up to her childhood memories.

0:40:26 > 0:40:30It's even better now that I've got my own family

0:40:30 > 0:40:34and it's everything I've dreamed of.

0:40:34 > 0:40:38The trial week's shown Chris the potential of a future far from home.

0:40:38 > 0:40:41My eyes are definitely wide open now to what is here.

0:40:41 > 0:40:43And given the couple a chance to see

0:40:43 > 0:40:47if the country would be a good fit for Louis.

0:40:47 > 0:40:50He's absolutely loved it. I mean, he loves the outdoor lifestyle.

0:40:50 > 0:40:55His future, I think, lies here, not in the UK.

0:40:55 > 0:40:58It's just, he's got so much more opportunities for him

0:40:58 > 0:41:00and he deserves it.

0:41:00 > 0:41:05He's such a lovely little boy and this place would suit him so well.

0:41:05 > 0:41:07It's such a no-brainer when you look at it like that.

0:41:07 > 0:41:11Why wouldn't I want to give that sort of opportunity to the person I love most?

0:41:11 > 0:41:15Despite everything Australia offers, Kirsty has been thrown

0:41:15 > 0:41:19by the reality of being so far from loved ones.

0:41:19 > 0:41:22I do still have that horrible...

0:41:25 > 0:41:28..that horrible feeling that it's not right.

0:41:31 > 0:41:33And I...you know, I would miss my family.

0:41:33 > 0:41:36For Chris, it's the only unanswered question.

0:41:36 > 0:41:39It is a long, long way away

0:41:39 > 0:41:43and can we really bring ourselves to pull Louis out of this family?

0:41:43 > 0:41:48You know, it's not like we're jetting over to Spain or whatnot.

0:41:48 > 0:41:51It's one of the toughest calls I'm ever going to have to make in my life, really.

0:41:51 > 0:41:54From the day they met four years ago,

0:41:54 > 0:41:58everything has been heading towards this moment as the couple finally

0:41:58 > 0:42:02make the life-changing decision about where their future belongs.

0:42:02 > 0:42:06After dreaming of the dream for 14 years, it's time for us to vote.

0:42:21 > 0:42:23ALL: Australia!

0:42:23 > 0:42:25THEY CHEER

0:42:25 > 0:42:28That's, like, the best ever.

0:42:28 > 0:42:33- The best thing, feeling, ever. It's brilliant. I'm so pleased.- Yeah?

0:42:33 > 0:42:36It's going to be hard, isn't it?

0:42:36 > 0:42:39But it's the best thing for the little man by a long run.

0:42:39 > 0:42:42If it's going to be as it's made out to be

0:42:42 > 0:42:47- then you've got me all the way. - You're sold?- I'm sold.

0:42:49 > 0:42:53- Could I have another kiss now? - THEY LAUGH

0:42:53 > 0:42:56- Bye-bye!- Say bye-bye, duckies.

0:42:57 > 0:43:01With Chris bowled over by everything Australia could offer,

0:43:01 > 0:43:04and deciding to put his own family first,

0:43:04 > 0:43:07Kirsty has finally achieved the fairy-tale ending

0:43:07 > 0:43:11she has been dreaming of for herself and more importantly, Louis.

0:43:11 > 0:43:15We wish them every happiness for their exciting new future

0:43:15 > 0:43:19and will be listening out for the patter of tiny feet.
