0:00:02 > 0:00:05Finding love across a cultural divide is a story older

0:00:05 > 0:00:07than Romeo and Juliet.

0:00:07 > 0:00:10But what if you and your partner's different backgrounds meant

0:00:10 > 0:00:13you struggled to feel at home where you lived?

0:00:13 > 0:00:16How far would you go to be yourself,

0:00:16 > 0:00:20and find the adventure-packed lifestyle you dreamt of?

0:00:20 > 0:00:24Marty Pelan and Magz Gibney are desperate to escape old prejudices.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27There's times where I feel like I can't totally just be open

0:00:27 > 0:00:30and honest about my relationship.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32Marty thinks Australia is the answer.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35But when a week down under shows them both how good it could be...

0:00:35 > 0:00:37I could definitely live with this. It's so nice.

0:00:37 > 0:00:39I would move in tomorrow.

0:00:39 > 0:00:41My only concern is that the weather is actually too good.

0:00:41 > 0:00:44..will the distance from family prevent Magz from fully

0:00:44 > 0:00:45buying into the dream?

0:00:45 > 0:00:49That means moving away and leaving people behind.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16Occupying almost eight million square kilometres,

0:01:16 > 0:01:19Australia is the sixth largest country in the world.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23And with a population of just 23 million, it's still

0:01:23 > 0:01:25one of the fastest-growing places on the planet.

0:01:27 > 0:01:30It's no surprise over a quarter of all UK residents currently

0:01:30 > 0:01:33living abroad have made Australia their home.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38Marty and Magz have found love across

0:01:38 > 0:01:39religious divides in Northern Ireland.

0:01:39 > 0:01:43But Marty believes their future happiness will be improved

0:01:43 > 0:01:48by ditching cultural rifts for a life of adventure in Australia.

0:01:48 > 0:01:52Now he has just one week to convince Magz that's worth being

0:01:52 > 0:01:57half a world away from friends and family who mean so much to her.

0:01:57 > 0:02:00The journey down under begins with three flights,

0:02:00 > 0:02:03from Belfast to Melbourne via London and Dubai.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06And, two days after takeoff, the couple are still smiling

0:02:06 > 0:02:09when they finally touch down in Australia.

0:02:09 > 0:02:11Our flight was great.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14It was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.

0:02:15 > 0:02:17Loads of nice food and sleep.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20The journey was - it's definitely an epic voyage there, isn't it?

0:02:20 > 0:02:22Coming from one side of the world to the other.

0:02:22 > 0:02:26But, already, the massive journey's got Magz thinking about family.

0:02:26 > 0:02:30There is a wee sort of concern in the back of my head about how long

0:02:30 > 0:02:34that flight is, you know, for someone with health problems.

0:02:34 > 0:02:37For Marty, the distance from home hasn't yet sunk in.

0:02:37 > 0:02:39I still think I'm in a wee bit of, just, shock,

0:02:39 > 0:02:41if I'm being honest, that I'm actually here.

0:02:41 > 0:02:43But it's amazing. I feel good.

0:02:43 > 0:02:45But he knows the country will have to sell itself

0:02:45 > 0:02:48if they're to be convinced they can call it home.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50We're not taking this lightly.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53Any idea of a move away from Belfast is a massive thing for us.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55As the couple head out into Melbourne,

0:02:55 > 0:02:58they know their future hangs on the coming week.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05Back in the UK, dedicated youth workers

0:03:05 > 0:03:08Marty Pelan and Magz Gibney live in Belfast in Northern Ireland.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11We've known each other for about ten years

0:03:11 > 0:03:13because we worked together.

0:03:13 > 0:03:16Two years ago, Marty asked me out.

0:03:16 > 0:03:18There was a natural connection between me and Magz.

0:03:18 > 0:03:21- No, there definitely was. - We share so much in common

0:03:21 > 0:03:23about the way we see life and community life.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26Despite sharing the same values, the couple come from

0:03:26 > 0:03:29opposite sides of the tracks, and that can make life

0:03:29 > 0:03:34difficult in a city where prejudices sometimes make their presence felt.

0:03:34 > 0:03:37It can be an issue for me, in that there's times where

0:03:37 > 0:03:39I feel like I can't totally just be open

0:03:39 > 0:03:43and honest about my relationship and where I'm from,

0:03:43 > 0:03:45and where I'm now living.

0:03:45 > 0:03:48And it is, you know, it is stressful.

0:03:48 > 0:03:51The couple want to spend the rest of their lives together,

0:03:51 > 0:03:54but staying at home could mean following a path far from smooth.

0:03:54 > 0:03:57Where we buy our next house, where we bring our kids up,

0:03:57 > 0:03:59how we bring them up, what school they go to,

0:03:59 > 0:04:02all that sort of stuff comes into play whenever you start to

0:04:02 > 0:04:07think about, maybe just, I suppose, our two different backgrounds.

0:04:07 > 0:04:09Things have changed massively and, you know,

0:04:09 > 0:04:12we're not a war-torn city or anything, any more,

0:04:12 > 0:04:17but I just think I don't want my children growing up thinking that

0:04:17 > 0:04:21the fact that they're either Catholic or Protestant is what defines them.

0:04:21 > 0:04:24Because we're so much more than that.

0:04:24 > 0:04:28Magz would love to escape the labels that colour their community,

0:04:28 > 0:04:32but moving to a more diverse part of Belfast isn't an option.

0:04:32 > 0:04:36We can't afford to live in an area that is neutral, you know,

0:04:36 > 0:04:40and where we'd both be comfortable and happy

0:04:40 > 0:04:43and feel like we have no, sort of, real issues.

0:04:43 > 0:04:46He's never been, but for the past five years Marty's

0:04:46 > 0:04:48dreamt of living a life down under,

0:04:48 > 0:04:52and now he's convinced it could be the perfect move for him and Magz.

0:04:52 > 0:04:55Australia is going to, hopefully, offer us

0:04:55 > 0:04:58the opportunity to leave behind some of that old stereotypical

0:04:58 > 0:05:02lines that are drawn within Belfast,

0:05:02 > 0:05:04and create a life for ourselves that's free of that.

0:05:04 > 0:05:07Magz is open to the idea of living abroad,

0:05:07 > 0:05:10but Australia has never been on her agenda.

0:05:10 > 0:05:14I guess, in my head, I always imagined that that will be

0:05:14 > 0:05:16half an hour's flight away, an hour, two hours.

0:05:16 > 0:05:20I can maybe even do six hours, but the idea of the other

0:05:20 > 0:05:23side of the world is a bit scary for me, at the minute.

0:05:23 > 0:05:25The couple share a passion for sports

0:05:25 > 0:05:28and Marty hopes the outdoor activities Australia offers

0:05:28 > 0:05:30will help persuade Magz to go the full distance.

0:05:30 > 0:05:34Between training opportunities, opportunities for new sports

0:05:34 > 0:05:36and, again, thinking about our future together

0:05:36 > 0:05:40and the potential of maybe a family, and what we can then offer

0:05:40 > 0:05:43to our children, Australia could open up so many new avenues.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48But convincing Magz may be harder than he thinks.

0:05:48 > 0:05:50She previously tried a move to Liverpool

0:05:50 > 0:05:53and the experience left a scar.

0:05:53 > 0:05:55I grew up with my granny and granda.

0:05:55 > 0:05:57They looked after me when I was younger,

0:05:57 > 0:06:00and my granny passed away when I was in Liverpool,

0:06:00 > 0:06:04and that was really tough to, you know...

0:06:04 > 0:06:07I was able to get home, which was great, but even being away

0:06:07 > 0:06:10and maybe not spending the last couple of...

0:06:12 > 0:06:15..months with her was tough, like.

0:06:15 > 0:06:17While settling across the Irish Sea proved difficult,

0:06:17 > 0:06:21moving 24 hours away from family would mean a much bigger leap.

0:06:21 > 0:06:25Both my parents and my aunt have had health issues over the last

0:06:25 > 0:06:28couple of years, and the idea of being on the other side of the world,

0:06:28 > 0:06:32if something were to happen, is quite scary.

0:06:34 > 0:06:38And anybody that knows me knows that I'm so close to my sister,

0:06:38 > 0:06:42so leaving her would be massive.

0:06:42 > 0:06:46It's a potentially heartbreaking situation, but Marty is desperate to

0:06:46 > 0:06:48give their hopes for a new life,

0:06:48 > 0:06:50away from old prejudices, a proper chance.

0:06:50 > 0:06:53There is no failure in life, there is just learning,

0:06:53 > 0:06:55so that's my viewpoint.

0:06:55 > 0:06:58For Magz, though, agreeing to make Marty's dream come true

0:06:58 > 0:07:00will be far from simple.

0:07:00 > 0:07:02At the minute, I just feel torn.

0:07:02 > 0:07:06I want to live away from Belfast, and I kind of know that deep down,

0:07:06 > 0:07:08but I'm not sure if it's Australia.

0:07:17 > 0:07:18For their trial week down under,

0:07:18 > 0:07:20Marty and Magz are visiting Melbourne.

0:07:20 > 0:07:23Home to around 140 different cultures,

0:07:23 > 0:07:26it's one of the world's most diverse cities.

0:07:26 > 0:07:29The couple are staying in Black Rock, a coastal suburb,

0:07:29 > 0:07:3211 miles from the city centre. For Marty, there's something familiar

0:07:32 > 0:07:34about their home for the week.

0:07:34 > 0:07:37Even the front door reminds me of my granny's front door

0:07:37 > 0:07:40whenever I was a kid. This is definitely old school.

0:07:40 > 0:07:43Hopefully, you'll feel at home then, Marty.

0:07:43 > 0:07:45- Massive hallway.- Wow.- Jeepers-oh.

0:07:45 > 0:07:48- I actually really like it.- And Marty?

0:07:48 > 0:07:51It's probably more your style than mine, Magz, but, yeah, there's

0:07:51 > 0:07:53- nice finishes to it, isn't it? - Look at the floors.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56- The floors are lovely. - Hmm, he's not sounding overwhelmed.

0:07:56 > 0:07:58This does remind me of stuff that I would have seen

0:07:58 > 0:08:01- in my granny's house. That's a long time ago!- Ssh!

0:08:01 > 0:08:04It might not be as modern as Marty would like,

0:08:04 > 0:08:06but it's a big enough base for the two of them.

0:08:06 > 0:08:08When we were driving up the street, this

0:08:08 > 0:08:11looked like one of the smaller houses, and it's massive.

0:08:11 > 0:08:13As the couple begin to unpack and settle in,

0:08:13 > 0:08:15Marty is already feeling at home.

0:08:15 > 0:08:19I'm really excited now, and there is a really lovely feeling

0:08:19 > 0:08:22here in Melbourne, and we're only here two or three hours, already.

0:08:22 > 0:08:25Magz seems to have bought into the Aussie way of life...

0:08:25 > 0:08:27I can't believe the difference.

0:08:27 > 0:08:30It just feels so much more relaxed and chilled out.

0:08:32 > 0:08:34It is really lovely here.

0:08:34 > 0:08:37..but it doesn't take long for her mind to wander back home.

0:08:37 > 0:08:40I can already feel that tug of...

0:08:40 > 0:08:42um...

0:08:46 > 0:08:48It's amazing, you know,

0:08:48 > 0:08:53but that tug of, sort of, thinking about back home and leaving.

0:08:53 > 0:08:56Marty knows being on the other side of the world from their loved ones

0:08:56 > 0:08:58is a massive issue for Magz.

0:08:58 > 0:09:00I don't think that that concern is going to leave for Magz

0:09:00 > 0:09:03very easily. I think it's a big thing for her,

0:09:03 > 0:09:06leaving, potentially leaving, family and friends behind.

0:09:06 > 0:09:07The next few days will show

0:09:07 > 0:09:11if Australia can offer the future Marty and Magz want,

0:09:11 > 0:09:14and whether, for Magz, it's worth cutting those ties at home.

0:09:14 > 0:09:16I feel really excited to be here,

0:09:16 > 0:09:19but the thought of being here without

0:09:19 > 0:09:22people that I care about is, sort of, quite...

0:09:22 > 0:09:25feels quite, um, lonely as well.

0:09:32 > 0:09:35Home for Marty and Magz in the UK is a two up, two down

0:09:35 > 0:09:37in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

0:09:37 > 0:09:41It's a nice wee place. We have invested a lot of energy in it,

0:09:41 > 0:09:43and it's definitely a place where we enjoy being.

0:09:43 > 0:09:45It's just we are finding more and more

0:09:45 > 0:09:47that we don't have enough space.

0:09:47 > 0:09:49Yeah. It's lovely but it's tiny.

0:09:49 > 0:09:52The couple would rent out their home if they moved to Australia,

0:09:52 > 0:09:54but what kind of house would they be looking for?

0:09:54 > 0:09:58Our ideal property would be somewhere that gives us

0:09:58 > 0:10:01access to the things that we enjoy - the outdoors.

0:10:01 > 0:10:04It would be lovely to have outside space where you could, like,

0:10:04 > 0:10:08grow your own veg, and somewhere that's modern.

0:10:08 > 0:10:10We have high hopes, I think.

0:10:10 > 0:10:12And, again, considering where we are,

0:10:12 > 0:10:15and the small space that we have, anything's got to be better!

0:10:19 > 0:10:22Marty and Mags have around £1,200 to spend on rent

0:10:22 > 0:10:24every month in Australia.

0:10:24 > 0:10:27To find out what's available for that sort of money,

0:10:27 > 0:10:28we'll show them three properties.

0:10:28 > 0:10:32Two on budget and a third which could be their dream home.

0:10:32 > 0:10:36Only after they've seen each one will they find out what it costs.

0:10:36 > 0:10:38For their first property of the day,

0:10:38 > 0:10:41the couple head to Dingley Village, 13 miles from central Melbourne.

0:10:41 > 0:10:44Close to the beach, and with plenty of outdoor activities on the

0:10:44 > 0:10:48doorstep, the area could be just right for the adventurous couple.

0:10:48 > 0:10:51But will the house have the space they're after?

0:10:51 > 0:10:52It's a nice feel to it.

0:10:52 > 0:10:54It looks like it's a nice finish, from out here.

0:10:54 > 0:10:56The interior impresses Magz.

0:10:56 > 0:10:59Oh, my...that's a nice space.

0:11:00 > 0:11:02That is lovely.

0:11:02 > 0:11:05- I love the fireplace. - In red brick.- All open-plan.

0:11:05 > 0:11:06Marty can see some appeal.

0:11:06 > 0:11:08Probably wouldn't have the carpets,

0:11:08 > 0:11:10and wouldn't have this type of furniture in it,

0:11:10 > 0:11:13but it definitely is really good. It's a nice space, isn't it?

0:11:13 > 0:11:17With four bedrooms, this property is definitely bigger than back home.

0:11:17 > 0:11:21Good size. Good wardrobes. Ensuite with a wee shower.

0:11:21 > 0:11:23But something has floored Marty.

0:11:23 > 0:11:26Carpets wouldn't be the thing, but it's just, I think, me.

0:11:26 > 0:11:29The home's spacious kitchen is a plus.

0:11:29 > 0:11:32Oh, look at this. This is lovely.

0:11:32 > 0:11:34It's a massive, big kitchen, loads of space to cook,

0:11:34 > 0:11:37and a really nice space to eat.

0:11:37 > 0:11:39But not every room is as well-proportioned.

0:11:39 > 0:11:41I'm a bit shocked at how small the bathroom is.

0:11:41 > 0:11:45There's a wee, small, tiny bath for leprechauns.

0:11:45 > 0:11:48Fortunately, the master bedroom isn't made for little people.

0:11:48 > 0:11:50It's a lovely big bedroom,

0:11:50 > 0:11:52and you're not stuck for storage or anything like that.

0:11:52 > 0:11:55But the decor is just not doing it for Marty.

0:11:55 > 0:11:58They definitely have a unique style of furniture over here, don't they?

0:11:58 > 0:12:01The retro horror chair.

0:12:02 > 0:12:05Hopefully the garden won't give them nightmares.

0:12:05 > 0:12:08Definitely liking the outside of this house.

0:12:08 > 0:12:13There's ample space for growing veg but Marty spots a potential problem.

0:12:13 > 0:12:15The planes flying overhead.

0:12:15 > 0:12:19I don't know if it would be annoying or if we could live with it.

0:12:19 > 0:12:21My instinct is it wouldn't be a deal-breaker.

0:12:21 > 0:12:25Aircraft aside, the garden and house are definitely bigger.

0:12:25 > 0:12:28It's just hilarious if we're talking about space and size in this house

0:12:28 > 0:12:30and the last house, coming from where we are and what we have.

0:12:30 > 0:12:33Like, this is the size of our street back home.

0:12:33 > 0:12:36This is about six or seven houses.

0:12:36 > 0:12:38Marty and Magz are staying grounded.

0:12:38 > 0:12:40If only the same could be said for the aeroplanes.

0:12:40 > 0:12:44It kind of ruins this, doesn't it? It ruins this space?

0:12:44 > 0:12:47Despite old-fashioned furniture and a nearby flight path,

0:12:47 > 0:12:50this property does have room to roam.

0:12:50 > 0:12:54Will it be in reach of the couple's £1,200 per month rental budget?

0:12:54 > 0:12:56I don't know.

0:12:56 > 0:13:00I'm saying 1,000 and hopefully that gives us a bit more room.

0:13:00 > 0:13:03This could be a big shock if this is about 1,300 or 1,400.

0:13:03 > 0:13:05Way over our budget. Then we're snookered.

0:13:13 > 0:13:19- 1,130. No way. - That's £70 a month under budget.

0:13:19 > 0:13:21You look really disappointed.

0:13:21 > 0:13:24I think, look at the size of this house. It's absolutely massive.

0:13:24 > 0:13:27- I know.- If you were to try and rent this back home...

0:13:27 > 0:13:29- I know.- Are you serious?

0:13:29 > 0:13:31It's very, very close to our upper limit,

0:13:31 > 0:13:35which concerns me. Is this realistic for us?

0:13:35 > 0:13:41If the price of your rent and your food is high then, you know,

0:13:41 > 0:13:46how much are you going to have left to actually have a life?

0:13:47 > 0:13:50This property had the space the couple had been dreaming of

0:13:50 > 0:13:53but the price tag proved a shock for Magz.

0:13:53 > 0:13:56Can the next house give them what they want at a better price?

0:13:56 > 0:13:58It's in the coastal town of Mordialloc.

0:13:58 > 0:14:01Situated around a half-hour drive from Melbourne centre,

0:14:01 > 0:14:03the area is popular with families

0:14:03 > 0:14:06seeking affordable housing by the coast.

0:14:06 > 0:14:08With running tracks and cycling paths,

0:14:08 > 0:14:10it could be a great fit for the sporty couple.

0:14:10 > 0:14:14This three-bedroom property promises the contemporary look Marty prefers.

0:14:14 > 0:14:17Oh, my goodness. This is a lot more modern.

0:14:17 > 0:14:21You just wouldn't picture this sort of space from the outside.

0:14:21 > 0:14:23- It looked tiny.- It's crazy.

0:14:23 > 0:14:26With two main living areas, this house is anything but small

0:14:26 > 0:14:29and this time, the decor is meeting with Marty's approval.

0:14:29 > 0:14:32It doesn't look like you need to do anything to this place at all.

0:14:32 > 0:14:36- You just sort of move in and relax. - Although...- Apart from the carpet.

0:14:36 > 0:14:38I'm just anti-carpet, full stop. I could live with it.

0:14:38 > 0:14:40It's OK to have a bit of carpet.

0:14:40 > 0:14:43As far as carpets, this is actually a nice carpet.

0:14:43 > 0:14:46Well, that's something. And the garage raises a smile too.

0:14:46 > 0:14:49- Now you're talking.- That's good. - Outdoor equipment. Canoes.

0:14:49 > 0:14:54- Get the bikes in there. - Forget about putting a car in it.

0:14:54 > 0:14:58Marty's making plans for this place already and he's not the only one.

0:14:58 > 0:15:02- Wow! This is lovely! - This is a great space.

0:15:02 > 0:15:06I would love being in this kitchen, cooking and baking.

0:15:06 > 0:15:09Love those splashbacks as well. It's perfect.

0:15:09 > 0:15:12Even the cupboards are generously sized.

0:15:12 > 0:15:15- Holy Moley!- That's cool. Could just fit you in there.

0:15:16 > 0:15:20But a wander outside leaves Magz less impressed.

0:15:20 > 0:15:24- It doesn't have the same outdoor space.- But it's not bad. It's great.

0:15:24 > 0:15:27I could see us sitting out here, having a barbecue, Magz.

0:15:27 > 0:15:30Relaxing, playing the guitar, having friends over.

0:15:30 > 0:15:32You know, on a nice sunny evening, coming in from work,

0:15:32 > 0:15:34in this space, I could relax here.

0:15:34 > 0:15:36Marty has fallen for this house

0:15:36 > 0:15:39but the garden's just not cutting it with Magz.

0:15:39 > 0:15:42I just hate that it's not proper grass. It's quite closed in.

0:15:42 > 0:15:45The neighbours are overlooking your garden.

0:15:45 > 0:15:47It's not perfect but I could definitely live with this.

0:15:47 > 0:15:49It's so nice inside.

0:15:50 > 0:15:53A quick peek upstairs puts Magz in a better mood.

0:15:53 > 0:15:56Jeepers. This is the hallway!

0:15:56 > 0:15:59- And a work space. - Brilliant, isn't it?- It's lovely.

0:15:59 > 0:16:04- The master bedroom is also a hit. - This place is huge. Massive wardrobe.

0:16:04 > 0:16:07It's great. Light, airy.

0:16:07 > 0:16:10- Again, really good finish, like the rest of the house.- Marty is sold.

0:16:10 > 0:16:13Now all he has to do is convince Magz.

0:16:13 > 0:16:18- So we're taking it then, is what you're saying?- I'm getting there.

0:16:18 > 0:16:20And the bedroom balcony might help.

0:16:20 > 0:16:24This would be good on a really warm summer's day when you need shade.

0:16:24 > 0:16:27Put your feet up, relax and read a book.

0:16:27 > 0:16:29- Look through a neighbour's windows. - That's what I was going to say!

0:16:29 > 0:16:31Artificial grass aside,

0:16:31 > 0:16:34this house could be the perfect home for Marty and Magz.

0:16:34 > 0:16:38But will their £1,200 monthly budget cover its costs?

0:16:41 > 0:16:45I think it's going to be about 1,400 or 1,500.

0:16:45 > 0:16:48I believe it's going to be about 1,350.

0:16:54 > 0:16:59- Holy Moley!- It's 1,250. - I'm totally shocked.

0:16:59 > 0:17:03I thought this was going to be way out of our price range.

0:17:03 > 0:17:07I feel a lot more positive about sacrificing the outdoor space.

0:17:07 > 0:17:11- We've become very fussy from coming to Australia.- I know we have.

0:17:11 > 0:17:14After a disappointing start to their day,

0:17:14 > 0:17:17this house could have helped Magz see the appeal of Aussie living.

0:17:17 > 0:17:19And there's still one more home to view.

0:17:19 > 0:17:22We've found what could be the couple's perfect property.

0:17:22 > 0:17:24It's situated in Brighton,

0:17:24 > 0:17:27one of Melbourne's most desirable beach-side suburbs.

0:17:27 > 0:17:30The area is geared towards people who love to live an active,

0:17:30 > 0:17:32outdoor lifestyle.

0:17:32 > 0:17:35So it should be the perfect match for Marty and Magz.

0:17:35 > 0:17:40- But will the house be their dream home?- That is huge. It's lovely.

0:17:40 > 0:17:43- A neat old secluded garden. - I know. I like it.

0:17:43 > 0:17:45Hopefully inside will go down well too.

0:17:45 > 0:17:50- Front door is amazing. - Look at the floors. Oh, my goodness.

0:17:50 > 0:17:53- That is a really good house, isn't it?- Stunning.

0:17:53 > 0:17:58It's a good start. Before long, the couple's differences on decor are raised yet again.

0:17:58 > 0:18:00It's definitely more your style than mine.

0:18:00 > 0:18:05- You'd love a bit of coving. - I actually don't like this coving.

0:18:05 > 0:18:11- But, yes.- For Marty, this house just doesn't feel like a home.

0:18:11 > 0:18:12It's beautiful, it's lovely,

0:18:12 > 0:18:15it's just not where I would envisage myself living.

0:18:15 > 0:18:16With three good-sized bedrooms,

0:18:16 > 0:18:19the house has all the space the couple could need.

0:18:19 > 0:18:24Another big bedroom, isn't it? Very nice. En suite.

0:18:24 > 0:18:27- It's totally down your street. - I know.

0:18:27 > 0:18:30I'm totally open to the idea of me living in the other place

0:18:30 > 0:18:33and you living here. Just take one each!

0:18:34 > 0:18:36- That could prove pricey, Marty. - It's got character.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39This house has bags of character.

0:18:39 > 0:18:42- The kitchen is one space the couple both like.- Oh, my goodness.

0:18:42 > 0:18:46This is massive. I would move in tomorrow.

0:18:46 > 0:18:49But the garden feels a bit formal.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52I feel like I should get dressed up and have tea in a saucer.

0:18:54 > 0:18:56This house has the couple divided

0:18:56 > 0:18:59but would moving in even be an option?

0:18:59 > 0:19:03Would their rental budget of £1,200 stretch to affording this home?

0:19:03 > 0:19:09- I want to say 1,000...maybe 400. - Yeah. I would go about 1,500.

0:19:18 > 0:19:20Way above budget.

0:19:20 > 0:19:23- 670.- We just could not afford to live here.

0:19:23 > 0:19:26Like, there's no... Although we haven't seen jobs and stuff.

0:19:26 > 0:19:29That's way above what we can afford.

0:19:29 > 0:19:31The last properties were the upper end of our budget

0:19:31 > 0:19:34- and that's at the other end.- Yeah.

0:19:34 > 0:19:37Marty and Magz's property search has given them a real taste

0:19:37 > 0:19:41of how far their money would go in Australia.

0:19:41 > 0:19:44Property one was never going to take off when they realised it was

0:19:44 > 0:19:47directly beneath a flight path and near the top of their budget.

0:19:47 > 0:19:51The interiors of property two were perfectly suited to Marty's

0:19:51 > 0:19:54tastes but the fake grass in the garden left Magz cold.

0:19:55 > 0:19:57Property three was in a desirable area

0:19:57 > 0:20:00and its period features impressed Magz.

0:20:00 > 0:20:04Discovering it was £470 over budget left the couple reeling.

0:20:04 > 0:20:06So, after a day's house-hunting,

0:20:06 > 0:20:10would Marty and Magz choose property in Australia or at home?

0:20:10 > 0:20:14Based on the houses we've seen today, we are going to vote for...

0:20:19 > 0:20:21BOTH: Australia.

0:20:22 > 0:20:27We would have a lot more space, a lot more for our money here.

0:20:27 > 0:20:29Judging by what we have seen today, there is a chance

0:20:29 > 0:20:32that we'll find something that is affordable and absolutely amazing

0:20:32 > 0:20:37and a lot more than what we would get if we were living at home.

0:20:42 > 0:20:45Despite mixed reactions to properties,

0:20:45 > 0:20:49the couple have decided Australia offers more bang for their buck.

0:20:49 > 0:20:53A vote for Australia from Magz means Marty's campaign

0:20:53 > 0:20:57to convince her their future lies down under is off to a solid start.

0:20:57 > 0:20:59But if it's to become a reality,

0:20:59 > 0:21:03the couple will both need to secure the right jobs.

0:21:03 > 0:21:05Back in the UK, the couple have over 20 years'

0:21:05 > 0:21:08combined experience as community workers.

0:21:08 > 0:21:10Marty's currently a resilience coach,

0:21:10 > 0:21:12combining youth work with adventure learning.

0:21:12 > 0:21:14The end result is hopefully always the same,

0:21:14 > 0:21:17that they have someone they can confide in, trust,

0:21:17 > 0:21:21and that I suppose help them make their life a bit more positive.

0:21:21 > 0:21:24Magz is a project coordinator with an organisation helping to get

0:21:24 > 0:21:27young people into education and employment.

0:21:27 > 0:21:31I absolutely love it. I just love working with people.

0:21:31 > 0:21:34I love having the opportunity to support people to just

0:21:34 > 0:21:36move forward with their lives.

0:21:36 > 0:21:40The couple would be keen to stick to their rewarding careers in Australia.

0:21:40 > 0:21:43I mean, the ideal job would be something similar to what I'm doing here.

0:21:43 > 0:21:48Something that's a mix of youth development work and also adventure learning.

0:21:48 > 0:21:50The job is important to me.

0:21:50 > 0:21:55I do want to be working in something that I care about and that I enjoy.

0:21:57 > 0:22:00With a population of over four million,

0:22:00 > 0:22:02Marty and Magz are hopeful there will be plenty of opportunities

0:22:02 > 0:22:05for youth and community workers in Melbourne.

0:22:05 > 0:22:06Everything hinges on that.

0:22:06 > 0:22:10We won't be able to afford a place to live, we won't be able to afford

0:22:10 > 0:22:13the lifestyle I suppose we are hoping to get as a result

0:22:13 > 0:22:16of moving here, if we don't have jobs that can support that.

0:22:16 > 0:22:18Marty's visiting an organisation that combines

0:22:18 > 0:22:21youth counselling with adventure sports.

0:22:21 > 0:22:23He meets director Iudita Trifa-Schmidt

0:22:23 > 0:22:27to find out if he'd make the grade for a job.

0:22:27 > 0:22:29Our programme coordinators,

0:22:29 > 0:22:33they require a minimum of two qualifications in outdoor adventure.

0:22:33 > 0:22:37Obviously, looking at your CV, you do have those two.

0:22:37 > 0:22:41And also a good understanding of the community sector.

0:22:41 > 0:22:44It's a positive start but she explains

0:22:44 > 0:22:47that because of a very low turnover of staff, openings are rare.

0:22:47 > 0:22:50Funding cuts also mean similar groups have fewer opportunities

0:22:50 > 0:22:53for new recruits. But it's not all bad news.

0:22:53 > 0:22:58Your youth work, you may be able to apply it broadly.

0:22:58 > 0:23:04Anything from not-for-profit to local government and government.

0:23:04 > 0:23:07Magz has always been keen to combine dance with her counselling work.

0:23:07 > 0:23:11With no opportunities to study dance therapy at home,

0:23:11 > 0:23:14she is visiting Melbourne's Phoenix Institute to find out

0:23:14 > 0:23:16about the courses available.

0:23:16 > 0:23:18If we make the move to Australia,

0:23:18 > 0:23:22the dance therapy is something that I really want to pursue.

0:23:22 > 0:23:27So this will give me an idea of what the training is actually like

0:23:27 > 0:23:29and it's something I definitely want to do with my future.

0:23:29 > 0:23:32It's not long before Magz is feeling at one

0:23:32 > 0:23:35- with the rest of the class. - We work in pairs.

0:23:35 > 0:23:39One person is client, the other person is therapist or responder.

0:23:39 > 0:23:42With Magz in full flow, Marty's discovering

0:23:42 > 0:23:46although youth work may be hard to find, he could have other options.

0:23:46 > 0:23:49You may have worked with youth but the skills

0:23:49 > 0:23:52and experience you've got can be transferable to adults.

0:23:53 > 0:23:57And don't be afraid to try something new. Something different.

0:23:57 > 0:23:59Securing employment may not be straightforward

0:23:59 > 0:24:02but what about the possible financial rewards?

0:24:02 > 0:24:05If I was to come here and I found a job similar to the workers

0:24:05 > 0:24:09that you have here, what sort of money will I be receiving?

0:24:09 > 0:24:13The salary per year comes to about 53,000, 54,000 per year.

0:24:13 > 0:24:17On top of that, they get allowances such as on call allowance

0:24:17 > 0:24:19and overnight stay allowance.

0:24:19 > 0:24:22Providing he finds work, that's around £5,000 more

0:24:22 > 0:24:26than what Marty owns in the UK and he's impressed by what he's heard.

0:24:26 > 0:24:29It's shown me that there is potential

0:24:29 > 0:24:32to do some real quality work here and I suppose that's really key.

0:24:32 > 0:24:35If we can get the money to survive then that's important also

0:24:35 > 0:24:38but it's also important to be in the right organisation.

0:24:38 > 0:24:42And the fact they recognise the skills that I have is great.

0:24:42 > 0:24:45At the college, Magz is meeting head of faculty Kim Dunphy

0:24:45 > 0:24:48to discover if combining studying dance therapy

0:24:48 > 0:24:50with work is a real option.

0:24:50 > 0:24:53When we offer this course for international students,

0:24:53 > 0:24:57the government requirements are a little bit different.

0:24:57 > 0:25:01Students are required to attend 20 hours a week of classes

0:25:01 > 0:25:03so at Phoenix that would mean that we would have

0:25:03 > 0:25:05three days a week of classes.

0:25:05 > 0:25:08It's a pretty intense amount of work.

0:25:08 > 0:25:10Discovering the class is full-time is a disappointment

0:25:10 > 0:25:14but could the benefits of completing the course make it worth Magz's

0:25:14 > 0:25:16while becoming a student again?

0:25:16 > 0:25:20I'm just wondering what my career prospects would be after doing the course?

0:25:20 > 0:25:24You have training as a counsellor and that's a good starting point.

0:25:24 > 0:25:27There is a lot of work around for counsellors in Australia.

0:25:27 > 0:25:31What I would see happening here is you would apply for jobs

0:25:31 > 0:25:34and then you would be able to say, "And I do this."

0:25:34 > 0:25:37Kim is also able to enlighten Magz about potential earnings.

0:25:37 > 0:25:40In Australia, salaries for counsellors would generally

0:25:40 > 0:25:44start at around 60,000 and go up to about 80,000.

0:25:44 > 0:25:47If she worked as a counsellor in Australia,

0:25:47 > 0:25:50Magz would earn almost £6,000 more than in the UK.

0:25:50 > 0:25:52Her day has ended on positive news

0:25:52 > 0:25:55but thoughts of home are never far away.

0:25:55 > 0:25:58I should be really excited.

0:26:04 > 0:26:08But I know already, I just feel like I want to live here

0:26:08 > 0:26:12and I want to be here and that means moving away and...

0:26:13 > 0:26:15Sorry.

0:26:16 > 0:26:18And leaving people behind.

0:26:18 > 0:26:23Magz will face a tough decision at the end of this week but for now,

0:26:23 > 0:26:28she's reunited with Marty to choose between work in Australia or the UK.

0:26:28 > 0:26:31Based on what we've seen, heard and experienced today,

0:26:31 > 0:26:33we are going to vote for...

0:26:37 > 0:26:40Undecided.

0:26:40 > 0:26:42There's positive stuff that came out of today for both of us.

0:26:42 > 0:26:47Especially around training opportunities for you and recognising my qualifications.

0:26:47 > 0:26:49But we've still got to investigate this more, I think,

0:26:49 > 0:26:53before we know we can come over here and live and be happy.

0:26:56 > 0:27:00Uncertainty over job aspects has seen Magz

0:27:00 > 0:27:03and Marty play safe with an undecided vote.

0:27:03 > 0:27:06Marty believes one benefit of moving down under

0:27:06 > 0:27:09would be more opportunities to satisfy the couple's appetite

0:27:09 > 0:27:11for adventure sports.

0:27:11 > 0:27:16So will a day doing just that bring the Australian dream back on track?

0:27:16 > 0:27:18Weather permitting, back in the UK,

0:27:18 > 0:27:21the couple are passionate about rock climbing.

0:27:21 > 0:27:23So to see how it compares down under,

0:27:23 > 0:27:26- they are visiting the You Yangs regional park.- G'day, guys.

0:27:26 > 0:27:29- How're you doing?- Not bad.- Good. Ready for a great day's climbing?

0:27:29 > 0:27:31Yeah. It's a beautiful day.

0:27:31 > 0:27:35The couple are climbing with instructor Richard Lodge from the Rock Adventure Centre,

0:27:35 > 0:27:37and waste no time getting stuck in.

0:27:44 > 0:27:47The scene from the summit is well worth the effort.

0:27:47 > 0:27:50- Lovely views.- Climbing in the sun.

0:27:50 > 0:27:53I could definitely see us here at weekends.

0:27:53 > 0:27:58- Rope.- It's exactly the kind of lifestyle Marty and Magz would love.

0:27:59 > 0:28:01Everything is quite accessible.

0:28:01 > 0:28:04Even an hour, an hour and a half's drive and you've got the sea

0:28:04 > 0:28:08and you can be out in the kayaks or out learning a new sport.

0:28:08 > 0:28:11And unlike at home, their plans shouldn't be rained off.

0:28:11 > 0:28:14One of my only concerns is that the weather is actually too good.

0:28:14 > 0:28:16That it's too sunny in the summer to actually do

0:28:16 > 0:28:19some of the stuff we really want to do, like climbing.

0:28:19 > 0:28:21But I'm sure if the rock's too hot then maybe

0:28:21 > 0:28:23we need to take up another sport like surfing.

0:28:23 > 0:28:25It's a hard life!

0:28:25 > 0:28:28The Australian dream may have started with Marty

0:28:28 > 0:28:31but today is selling the country to both him and Magz.

0:28:31 > 0:28:35Things are so chilled out. There's no stress, no worry.

0:28:35 > 0:28:40We've just been enjoying ourselves and I guess that is different to back

0:28:40 > 0:28:43home because the fact that we are coming from different communities.

0:28:43 > 0:28:48You sort of have to be aware of that back home and it doesn't matter here.

0:28:48 > 0:28:51But with a previous move away ending badly,

0:28:51 > 0:28:54Magz is wary of the price of being free from prejudice.

0:28:54 > 0:28:58The possibility of friends or family falling ill when she's not there.

0:28:58 > 0:29:00I know what it's like to be away from home

0:29:00 > 0:29:02and to have to deal with that on your own.

0:29:04 > 0:29:08And being away from family members who you know are struggling with it.

0:29:10 > 0:29:12So...

0:29:12 > 0:29:15And I know there's potential for that to happen. It will.

0:29:15 > 0:29:18It's inevitable, do you know what I mean? You're going to lose people.

0:29:18 > 0:29:21Marty's also got his own more practical concerns.

0:29:21 > 0:29:24The cost of living might be something

0:29:24 > 0:29:29that I'm worried about, and also whether there would be jobs.

0:29:29 > 0:29:31It's going to be a mathematical equation, isn't it?

0:29:31 > 0:29:35Magz knows the next few days could challenge the couple's relationship.

0:29:35 > 0:29:39This has been Marty's dream and I guess if we're not on the same page

0:29:39 > 0:29:43at the end of the week, it's going to be tough for us.

0:29:43 > 0:29:46It's something we're going to have to discuss

0:29:46 > 0:29:50and I really don't want to be in that place with each other.

0:29:50 > 0:29:53Come the end of the week, both Marty and Magz will face

0:29:53 > 0:29:56a difficult decision but for now, will the couple choose

0:29:56 > 0:30:01the lifestyle in Australia over the one they have back home in the UK?

0:30:01 > 0:30:03We are going to vote for...

0:30:08 > 0:30:11- Australia.- Australia.

0:30:11 > 0:30:13Why would you not want to be here, enjoying the sun

0:30:13 > 0:30:16and getting really good climbing in?

0:30:16 > 0:30:18There's a lot of opportunities here for us. It's great.

0:30:18 > 0:30:20It's been a great day, hasn't it?

0:30:28 > 0:30:31If they made the move to Australia,

0:30:31 > 0:30:34Marty and Magz would be keen to get involved with the local community.

0:30:34 > 0:30:37To get a feel for how they could settle in, we've arranged

0:30:37 > 0:30:40for them to visit neighbourhood allotments in St Kilda.

0:30:40 > 0:30:42Stuff is going to grow all year round here, isn't it?

0:30:42 > 0:30:45This is winter but you're still going to get vegetables growing.

0:30:45 > 0:30:49With over 140 plots, Veg Out is the perfect place for them

0:30:49 > 0:30:51to get their hands dirty.

0:30:51 > 0:30:54To find out more, they meet members Tim and Hugh.

0:30:54 > 0:30:55It's an old bowling club.

0:30:55 > 0:30:59When they left here in 1998 and joined another bowling club,

0:30:59 > 0:31:01this was left vacant.

0:31:01 > 0:31:03So a few of the people who lived in the area

0:31:03 > 0:31:05decided to turn it into a community garden.

0:31:05 > 0:31:08Keen urban gardeners, this could be ideal for the couple.

0:31:08 > 0:31:12It's a community space and anybody can come in between dawn

0:31:12 > 0:31:16and dusk and generally the last plotter out locks up the gate.

0:31:16 > 0:31:18It's the perfect place to sow the seeds of friendship.

0:31:18 > 0:31:21The social aspect is one of the biggest ones.

0:31:21 > 0:31:23There's a lot of apartment living.

0:31:23 > 0:31:25Get out, meet your neighbours and have a spot where you can go,

0:31:25 > 0:31:27rather than a restaurant or a cafe.

0:31:27 > 0:31:30It looks like the couple could fit right in here,

0:31:30 > 0:31:33which should allay any concerns about putting down new roots.

0:31:33 > 0:31:36It's a community, you know,

0:31:36 > 0:31:40and that's one thing I don't want to give up or leave behind.

0:31:40 > 0:31:44There's a real sense that people are here to be with each other

0:31:44 > 0:31:49- and to enjoy each other's company. - They seem our type of people.

0:31:53 > 0:31:55Their week so far has shown Marty and Magz

0:31:55 > 0:31:58that Melbourne could be the perfect place for them

0:31:58 > 0:32:01to settle but if the figures don't stack up financially,

0:32:01 > 0:32:03any move could be off the cards.

0:32:03 > 0:32:05The couple hope to rent out their home in Belfast

0:32:05 > 0:32:09for around £500 per month if they did emigrate.

0:32:09 > 0:32:13We sent round two estate agents to see if they agreed.

0:32:14 > 0:32:17There's our street!

0:32:17 > 0:32:19It's a nice terrace property.

0:32:19 > 0:32:22- Actually, there is a small courtyard at the front.- The house looks good!

0:32:22 > 0:32:27Open-plan. Compact living room. Nice gas fire.

0:32:29 > 0:32:35Nice fitted kitchen. Modern beech units. Very complimentary. Gas hob.

0:32:35 > 0:32:39- A nice, compact bathroom. Nice tiling.- It is compact.

0:32:39 > 0:32:42There's a lot of small references, isn't it? But positive.

0:32:42 > 0:32:47It's unfortunate not to have this upstairs but very well done.

0:32:47 > 0:32:48Nice and contemporary.

0:32:48 > 0:32:52Nice size master bedroom. Plenty of storage.

0:32:53 > 0:32:55Good man. Stretch that leg over.

0:32:55 > 0:32:58It would be better if they went to their local builder or local

0:32:58 > 0:33:02council and got a door there, it would make access a lot better.

0:33:02 > 0:33:04But otherwise, it is a good area.

0:33:06 > 0:33:10This is a very attractive mid-terrace property.

0:33:10 > 0:33:14My rental value estimate would be £525 per calendar month.

0:33:14 > 0:33:16- It's what we expected. - What we were expecting.

0:33:16 > 0:33:22My rental valuation would be between £525 and £550 per calendar month.

0:33:22 > 0:33:27That's good. That's the upper end of what we thought.

0:33:27 > 0:33:30The valuations are definitely a step in the right direction but now the

0:33:30 > 0:33:34couple need to compare living costs in Australia with those in the UK.

0:33:34 > 0:33:37We've compiled the figures to help them out,

0:33:37 > 0:33:42- starting with the grocery shop. - Spinach! 1.20 more!

0:33:42 > 0:33:45Oranges, three quid more.

0:33:47 > 0:33:50- We knew this was going to be more expensive.- Yeah.

0:33:50 > 0:33:52Luckily, not everything is more expensive.

0:33:52 > 0:33:55Peanut butter is actually cheaper here. That's a surprise.

0:33:55 > 0:33:59- What's that?- Stock cubes. A lot cheaper.- One pound cheaper.

0:33:59 > 0:34:03We can have peanut butter, stock cubes and grapes and hummus.

0:34:03 > 0:34:05- Mm!- Delicious!

0:34:05 > 0:34:09But will they still be smiling when they see what the inflated prices

0:34:09 > 0:34:14- mean for their fortnightly food shop?- It's £149.57.

0:34:14 > 0:34:18That would be a difference of £80 a month.

0:34:18 > 0:34:20Next, the couple look at their bigger bills,

0:34:20 > 0:34:24basing calculations on the first property they viewed.

0:34:24 > 0:34:28So, the rent for the first property was 1,130.

0:34:30 > 0:34:33- It's a lot, isn't it?- Yes. It is.

0:34:33 > 0:34:38In the UK, their monthly outgoings are around £2,270.

0:34:38 > 0:34:40And Australia...

0:34:40 > 0:34:45For Australia, the total outgoings would be 2,687.28.

0:34:48 > 0:34:54- It costs £417 more to live here, in terms of our costs.- It's quite a lot.

0:34:54 > 0:34:56It is quite a lot.

0:34:56 > 0:34:59But can their potential salaries in Australia cover that spend?

0:34:59 > 0:35:02Their figures are based on Magz shelving her plan to study

0:35:02 > 0:35:05dance therapy and work full-time.

0:35:05 > 0:35:10So, total income for the UK is 3,150.

0:35:13 > 0:35:17And total income for Australia is £4,481.

0:35:20 > 0:35:25The couple stand to earn £1,300 more every month than they do in the UK.

0:35:25 > 0:35:29I'm shocked. I actually did not think that was going to be the reality.

0:35:30 > 0:35:33Even taking into account their higher spending,

0:35:33 > 0:35:37- the figures are favourable. - £913.24.

0:35:39 > 0:35:42That's what we're increasing a month.

0:35:42 > 0:35:44I mean, that's a massive amount of money.

0:35:44 > 0:35:47In fact, it's almost £11,000 a year.

0:35:47 > 0:35:51We're comparing our life back home in a two-bedroom,

0:35:51 > 0:35:55teeny inner-city house to a big house with four bedrooms,

0:35:55 > 0:35:58a massive garden and close to the beach.

0:35:58 > 0:36:01It's like day and night.

0:36:01 > 0:36:04I don't know what I'm going to spend all that on.

0:36:04 > 0:36:06You'll find a way to spend it.

0:36:06 > 0:36:11Marty's dream could be well and truly on track to become a reality.

0:36:11 > 0:36:15We've just done the figures and based on that, we've decided to vote for...

0:36:21 > 0:36:23BOTH: Australia.

0:36:23 > 0:36:26It's a no-brainer, isn't it?

0:36:26 > 0:36:29We found out today it's just going to be so much...

0:36:29 > 0:36:31much more better off.

0:36:36 > 0:36:40Realising how much better off they could be in Australia's

0:36:40 > 0:36:44a real boost for Marty's chances of persuading Magz to follow his dream.

0:36:44 > 0:36:47But there is still one final fence to clear.

0:36:47 > 0:36:50The time has now come for Magz to face the emotional cost of the move

0:36:50 > 0:36:54as the couple sit down to watch messages from loved ones at home.

0:36:55 > 0:36:58- Hi, Marty and Magz. - ALL: Hi, Magz and Marty.

0:36:58 > 0:37:01G'day! How's it going?

0:37:02 > 0:37:05Marty and Magz as a couple are pretty awesome.

0:37:05 > 0:37:07They just seem to match perfectly.

0:37:07 > 0:37:09Marty's a really kind person.

0:37:09 > 0:37:11He is really genuine.

0:37:11 > 0:37:14He's the sort of person that would give a total

0:37:14 > 0:37:16stranger his last £10 note.

0:37:16 > 0:37:20He has been such a role model and such a support for me,

0:37:20 > 0:37:22raising these three children.

0:37:22 > 0:37:26Margaret is such a selfless person. She is lovely.

0:37:26 > 0:37:28I don't think she realises sometimes how valued

0:37:28 > 0:37:31and loved she is by people.

0:37:31 > 0:37:36Sorry. But she really is. She's just amazing.

0:37:36 > 0:37:40She's like my best friend.

0:37:40 > 0:37:43I could just talk to Margaret all day, you know.

0:37:43 > 0:37:45She'd be there, no matter what.

0:37:45 > 0:37:48I would be behind them 100%.

0:37:48 > 0:37:51Whatever makes them happy.

0:37:51 > 0:37:55I will really miss them. I will.

0:37:58 > 0:38:01I know you'll make the best decision for yourselves

0:38:01 > 0:38:05and for your future and that's all we want is for yous to be happy.

0:38:05 > 0:38:09I will really miss you but I want what's best for you.

0:38:09 > 0:38:13If this is both your dreams, go for it and just live the life

0:38:13 > 0:38:16because it's time for yous to get something back for yourselves

0:38:16 > 0:38:20cos yous have gave enough to a lot of people here.

0:38:20 > 0:38:25You've worked so hard so give it a shot if it's what you want

0:38:25 > 0:38:27and I hope it works out.

0:38:30 > 0:38:32Are you OK?

0:38:34 > 0:38:36It's hard.

0:38:40 > 0:38:42I just feel...

0:38:43 > 0:38:46..like I'm going in circles.

0:38:46 > 0:38:49I feel like there's so much here for us

0:38:49 > 0:38:53and then I've seen those videos and it's like...

0:38:53 > 0:38:55It's brought...

0:38:55 > 0:38:59- It has brought the reality back. - It's massive, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:39:02 > 0:39:05Sorry.

0:39:08 > 0:39:14Words of support from home were hard to hear for both Magz and Marty.

0:39:14 > 0:39:18As a final decision draws ever closer, will they prove

0:39:18 > 0:39:22the deciding factor when it comes to where the couple's future lies?

0:39:22 > 0:39:25When Marty touched down in Australia for the first time,

0:39:25 > 0:39:29he was hoping the country could offer a fresh start

0:39:29 > 0:39:32in a community free of prejudice and the trial week has proved him right.

0:39:32 > 0:39:35It is quite clear to me that it would be

0:39:35 > 0:39:37a positive experience, you know, to live here

0:39:37 > 0:39:41and experience the lifestyle, the culture, the opportunities.

0:39:41 > 0:39:44The week has surpassed partner Magz's expectations too.

0:39:44 > 0:39:46There's been times where I've literally been thinking

0:39:46 > 0:39:49I would move here tomorrow. It's an amazing place.

0:39:49 > 0:39:54I genuinely understand why so many people come to Australia and they don't want to leave.

0:39:54 > 0:39:57Although securing jobs may not be straightforward,

0:39:57 > 0:40:01Marty feels the country does offer benefits over their life at home.

0:40:01 > 0:40:04Seeing that not only could we potentially afford to live here

0:40:04 > 0:40:08and live well here, but we would be also making a lot more money,

0:40:08 > 0:40:11which could open up opportunities for us.

0:40:11 > 0:40:15But for Magz, their potential good fortune is bittersweet.

0:40:15 > 0:40:17Even in the middle of the best experiences

0:40:17 > 0:40:20that I've had this week, I've been really emotional

0:40:20 > 0:40:25because I'm constantly reminded that making the move to Australia

0:40:25 > 0:40:29means moving away from my family and my friends.

0:40:30 > 0:40:32It is a big sacrifice.

0:40:34 > 0:40:36The couple face a life-changing decision

0:40:36 > 0:40:39and they both know what's at stake.

0:40:39 > 0:40:42We are a team. That's it. Plain and simple.

0:40:42 > 0:40:45So if it's too much then we'll just carry on

0:40:45 > 0:40:47being happy in the life that we have back home.

0:40:47 > 0:40:51It's most definitely not going to be the worst case scenario.

0:40:51 > 0:40:55I really worry about the fact that he may be sacrificing things

0:40:55 > 0:40:58because of where I'm at with things.

0:40:58 > 0:41:01I guess what this week's been about is our future

0:41:01 > 0:41:03and it's not just what makes me happy,

0:41:03 > 0:41:06it's about what makes Marty happy as well.

0:41:06 > 0:41:09You know, I want the both of us to be sitting, when we are old,

0:41:09 > 0:41:12saying we're really happy with the choices we've made

0:41:12 > 0:41:18and what we've done to make our life as good as it can be.

0:41:18 > 0:41:21After much soul-searching, it's time for Magz and Marty

0:41:21 > 0:41:25to decide once and for all where they'll spend their future.

0:41:25 > 0:41:28We've had an amazing week here in Melbourne, Australia.

0:41:28 > 0:41:30We have looked at the type of jobs we could have, where we

0:41:30 > 0:41:33could possibly live and the type of lifestyle that we'd have.

0:41:33 > 0:41:36And as the result of that, we are now going to vote for...

0:41:45 > 0:41:47BOTH: Australia!

0:41:50 > 0:41:53- Serious?- Yeah.- Great.

0:41:53 > 0:41:56I just think we'd be really happy here and yes,

0:41:56 > 0:42:00it's going to be tough leaving people behind

0:42:00 > 0:42:05but I would hate to think that we didn't take this opportunity.

0:42:05 > 0:42:07You know, that's what we're about.

0:42:07 > 0:42:11It's about getting as much out of life and experience as we can

0:42:11 > 0:42:14and I think Australia has so many opportunities for us.

0:42:14 > 0:42:16This is going to be a big change for us.

0:42:16 > 0:42:19And a big challenge.

0:42:19 > 0:42:22But it's definitely worth the risk of giving it a go

0:42:22 > 0:42:27and if it doesn't work out, well, at least we've tried.

0:42:27 > 0:42:29It has been a rollercoaster for me.

0:42:29 > 0:42:33But I am really excited.

0:42:56 > 0:42:59With so much potential for a happy future,

0:42:59 > 0:43:03far from the old divisions that restrained life at home,

0:43:03 > 0:43:08it seems Magz is more than willing to make Marty's dream come true.

0:43:08 > 0:43:12We wish them health, wealth and happiness as they set out

0:43:12 > 0:43:15on what could be their biggest adventure yet.
