0:00:02 > 0:00:03What would you do if your partner

0:00:03 > 0:00:05passionately believed a better life

0:00:05 > 0:00:07was waiting on the other side of the world,

0:00:07 > 0:00:11but you couldn't bear to leave loved ones behind?

0:00:11 > 0:00:14How would you begin to decide between following their dream,

0:00:14 > 0:00:16or seeing it disappear forever?

0:00:17 > 0:00:20Rob Bowen's fixated on making a fresh start down under.

0:00:20 > 0:00:22The passion I have for moving to Australia

0:00:22 > 0:00:25is really very strong. I think Australia's got everything really.

0:00:25 > 0:00:28But wife Amy doesn't share his Australian dream.

0:00:28 > 0:00:31How can you be so obsessed with somewhere

0:00:31 > 0:00:33that you've never actually been to?

0:00:33 > 0:00:36So when a trial week in the country sees her faced with

0:00:36 > 0:00:38an impossible choice...

0:00:38 > 0:00:39I've got my husband.

0:00:41 > 0:00:42And my family.

0:00:44 > 0:00:45You have no idea.

0:00:47 > 0:00:48No idea.

0:00:48 > 0:00:51..will Rob's dream be over before it's begun?

0:00:51 > 0:00:54If it doesn't go the way that I want it to, I'm going

0:00:54 > 0:00:56to be absolutely gutted, I really am.

0:01:18 > 0:01:20Australia's the number one choice

0:01:20 > 0:01:23when Brits fantasise about a life on foreign shores.

0:01:23 > 0:01:28The 140-year-old country's average of 300 days of sunshine a year -

0:01:28 > 0:01:31and the laid-back lifestyle that affords -

0:01:31 > 0:01:35are a huge draw for UK residents seeking a new beginning.

0:01:36 > 0:01:40But it isn't always the promised land, and almost a third of those

0:01:40 > 0:01:44making the move return home each year with their dreams in shreds.

0:01:45 > 0:01:49Ahead of Rob Bowen lies just one week to discover

0:01:49 > 0:01:52if Australia can live up to his expectations,

0:01:52 > 0:01:55and persuade wife Amy the opportunities the country

0:01:55 > 0:01:58offers are worth breaking close bonds at home.

0:01:58 > 0:02:00Then the couple will face a decision which will

0:02:00 > 0:02:03change their lives forever - whether to remain at home in the UK,

0:02:03 > 0:02:09or leave loved ones behind for a new life, thousands of miles away.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14Three flights and a full day in the air has seen Rob

0:02:14 > 0:02:18and Amy travel 10,000 miles from Birmingham to Adelaide,

0:02:18 > 0:02:20and they're pretty exhausted.

0:02:24 > 0:02:26I'm feeling quite tired, I don't know about you.

0:02:26 > 0:02:32Yeah, we left the house about 28 hours ago, so it's been a long time.

0:02:32 > 0:02:35Despite the long trip Rob's ecstatic to be on

0:02:35 > 0:02:37Australian soil for the first time.

0:02:37 > 0:02:40I feel fantastic to finally be here to be honest.

0:02:40 > 0:02:41I did joke with Amy that

0:02:41 > 0:02:44when we landed I was going to go outside and kiss the tarmac.

0:02:44 > 0:02:47But he's already anxious about what lies ahead.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50I'm a little bit nervous about what's going to come out of this.

0:02:50 > 0:02:52I've sort of taken it for granted that I'm going to

0:02:52 > 0:02:55love the place, but it's not as clear-cut as that.

0:02:55 > 0:02:57I think you've already made your mind up,

0:02:57 > 0:03:01and you made it up a few years ago. I haven't.

0:03:01 > 0:03:05But I'm just going to take in everything that I possibly can

0:03:05 > 0:03:08to try and make a decision on what happens

0:03:08 > 0:03:10with our lives next, I suppose.

0:03:10 > 0:03:14Having finally reached Australia, Rob faces the biggest

0:03:14 > 0:03:16challenge of his life in the next few days -

0:03:16 > 0:03:19persuading his wife to move to the other side of the world.

0:03:22 > 0:03:24The Bowens are from Wolverhampton.

0:03:25 > 0:03:30They're Rob, Amy and their two dogs - Fletcher and Finnegan.

0:03:30 > 0:03:33Rob lives and breathes one dream in life.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35I've had the Australia dream for about...

0:03:35 > 0:03:37probably about ten years now.

0:03:37 > 0:03:40Rob's best friend travelled around Australia, and tales

0:03:40 > 0:03:44on his return set in motion Rob's desire to move down under.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47He did nothing but speak really, really highly of the country.

0:03:47 > 0:03:49And I guess that kind of inspired me,

0:03:49 > 0:03:52and ever since then, it's always been in the back of my mind.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55The passion I have for moving to Australia is really very strong.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57Having kind of good weather for a large portion of the year

0:03:57 > 0:04:02just enables you to enhance your lifestyle so much more, really.

0:04:02 > 0:04:04Rob investigated making the move some time ago,

0:04:04 > 0:04:08but unable to secure a visa, his hopes were dashed.

0:04:08 > 0:04:10But a visa could now be possible,

0:04:10 > 0:04:13and having recently endured three major heart operations

0:04:13 > 0:04:15in as many years,

0:04:15 > 0:04:19Rob's ready to reconsider his Australian ambitions.

0:04:19 > 0:04:23It makes you realise that life is fairly precious you know,

0:04:23 > 0:04:25you never really know what's around the corner.

0:04:25 > 0:04:27Now with a clean bill of health,

0:04:27 > 0:04:30he's determined to make the most of life.

0:04:30 > 0:04:33I personally want to live life the way I want to live it,

0:04:33 > 0:04:36and that's a massive part of why I want to move to Australia.

0:04:36 > 0:04:41But unfortunately, wife Amy doesn't share the desire to move down under.

0:04:41 > 0:04:44How can you be so obsessed with somewhere

0:04:44 > 0:04:46that you've never actually been to?

0:04:46 > 0:04:49It's ludicrous. It's madness.

0:04:49 > 0:04:51Ever since the couple met a few years ago,

0:04:51 > 0:04:55the issue's been a constant thorn in Amy's side.

0:04:55 > 0:04:58It comes up every day in conversation, at least once.

0:05:00 > 0:05:03If not several times.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06Yeah, I guess I'd call it a mild obsession.

0:05:06 > 0:05:08And Rob's constant badgering has begun

0:05:08 > 0:05:11to affect the couple's relationship.

0:05:11 > 0:05:15I don't think anybody understands what it feels like to live

0:05:15 > 0:05:20with somebody who actually, doesn't really want to be here.

0:05:20 > 0:05:22I suppose it has put some pressure on us at times,

0:05:22 > 0:05:24we've perhaps had a couple of fall-outs about it.

0:05:24 > 0:05:28This isn't healthy, to have this all the time hanging over us

0:05:28 > 0:05:31if we don't really know what direction we're going in,

0:05:31 > 0:05:35because Australia is just there all of the time.

0:05:35 > 0:05:37Having married last year,

0:05:37 > 0:05:40Amy feels the issue needs to be put to bed, once and for all.

0:05:40 > 0:05:42I wouldn't be a very good wife

0:05:42 > 0:05:49if I didn't at least explore what you so badly, badly want.

0:05:49 > 0:05:51I don't want it to be just my dream for me though -

0:05:51 > 0:05:53I want it to be my dream for us.

0:05:53 > 0:05:56I really believe that we would both have a better life there.

0:05:56 > 0:05:59But Australia will have to deliver something

0:05:59 > 0:06:02truly magical for Amy to leave her life in the UK.

0:06:02 > 0:06:06She's always had a close relationship with her mum, one which

0:06:06 > 0:06:09has only strengthened since her parent's divorce ten years ago.

0:06:09 > 0:06:12She is my best friend.

0:06:12 > 0:06:16She understands me better than I understand myself sometimes.

0:06:16 > 0:06:18I don't think I've ever known anybody as close

0:06:18 > 0:06:21to their mother as Amy is, and that's a fantastic thing.

0:06:21 > 0:06:24She's always said, hasn't she, "Don't ever let me

0:06:24 > 0:06:26"be a reason for you to stay,

0:06:26 > 0:06:31"and whatever you do, I will support you", but I think perhaps

0:06:31 > 0:06:36behind closed doors it's not quite as cut and dried as that.

0:06:37 > 0:06:39You know, if we were to have a baby,

0:06:39 > 0:06:43that would be quite hard for her to not be a part of.

0:06:50 > 0:06:51I'm sorry.

0:06:51 > 0:06:53Leaving would also mean an end to

0:06:53 > 0:06:55Amy's daily visits to see her grandad.

0:06:55 > 0:06:59An original Ten Pound Pom, he pulled out of emigrating at the last

0:06:59 > 0:07:03minute, but believes that she should now make the move he didn't.

0:07:03 > 0:07:06Amy though would struggle to put half a world between them.

0:07:08 > 0:07:12I think I'm closer to my grandad now then what I ever have been.

0:07:12 > 0:07:17Rob understands he'll be putting his wife in an impossible situation.

0:07:17 > 0:07:18Sometimes I feel bad for how much pressure

0:07:18 > 0:07:21I put on her to go ahead with this.

0:07:21 > 0:07:24But I also kind of would be massively grateful to Amy to

0:07:24 > 0:07:29give us that opportunity to better ourselves and better our lives.

0:07:29 > 0:07:32But for his sake, she's determined to give it a go.

0:07:32 > 0:07:37I will go. I will try it. I will have a completely open mind.

0:07:37 > 0:07:38But if it's not right for me,

0:07:38 > 0:07:41I can't move to the other side of the world for him.

0:07:42 > 0:07:47Rob's dream life down under will live or die in the next seven days.

0:07:47 > 0:07:49If we don't both fall in love with Australia

0:07:49 > 0:07:54and see that it's worth all of the upheaval and the heartache,

0:07:54 > 0:07:57then yeah, it absolutely could break that dream

0:07:57 > 0:08:01that I've had for years, so it is massively important.

0:08:01 > 0:08:04I am so scared that if we get back and it's not for me

0:08:04 > 0:08:11and it doesn't feel right, that I have got to be the one to

0:08:11 > 0:08:16say that it isn't going to happen, and he will be heartbroken.

0:08:16 > 0:08:17Actually heartbroken.

0:08:24 > 0:08:27The Bowens are spending their trial week in Adelaide,

0:08:27 > 0:08:29capital of South Australia.

0:08:29 > 0:08:32The green, lush city offers a bustling urban Mecca within

0:08:32 > 0:08:34a serene setting.

0:08:34 > 0:08:37And with almost 20 miles of sun-soaked beaches, it's a

0:08:37 > 0:08:42firm favourite with Brits seeking a fresh start down under.

0:08:42 > 0:08:43Home for the week is Brighton,

0:08:43 > 0:08:46one of Adelaide's popular seaside suburbs.

0:08:46 > 0:08:49Will their first taste of Aussie living

0:08:49 > 0:08:51live up to Rob's expectations?

0:08:51 > 0:08:52It's big.

0:08:52 > 0:08:54It is. Open-plan.

0:08:54 > 0:08:56Not much of a garden.

0:08:56 > 0:08:59- It's certainly, um... - It's a little bijou, isn't it?

0:08:59 > 0:09:00..small! LAUGHS

0:09:00 > 0:09:02The barbecue doesn't look in working order.

0:09:02 > 0:09:05Yeah, I don't think you're going to be barbecuing on that!

0:09:05 > 0:09:07No, I'm not going to be barbecuing on that, unfortunately.

0:09:07 > 0:09:10Yeah, it certainly leaves a lot to be desired.

0:09:10 > 0:09:12It's not the start Rob was hoping for,

0:09:12 > 0:09:15but it hasn't dampened his spirits.

0:09:15 > 0:09:17I'm still slightly in shock that we're actually here.

0:09:17 > 0:09:19I've thought about it for so long that I still...

0:09:19 > 0:09:22haven't got my head around the idea that we're actually here in Australia.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25Although anxious, he's hoping that the country

0:09:25 > 0:09:27will sell itself over the next week.

0:09:27 > 0:09:30I suppose my main nervousness is around how Amy's going to

0:09:30 > 0:09:32feel about it all, and I'm very aware

0:09:32 > 0:09:34that I don't want to pressure her into anything,

0:09:34 > 0:09:38I want her to see all the fantastic things it offers for herself.

0:09:38 > 0:09:41I'm hoping that Australia will do the talking for me.

0:09:41 > 0:09:44If Rob's got to sit down and try and talk me into coming then

0:09:44 > 0:09:48I don't think, in my mind, it'd be the right thing to do.

0:09:48 > 0:09:51Whether the country will meet Rob's expectations

0:09:51 > 0:09:56and win Amy over will become clear over the next few days.

0:10:01 > 0:10:03In the UK, both Amy and Rob

0:10:03 > 0:10:07are content with their three-bedroom, semidetached home.

0:10:07 > 0:10:09I love my house.

0:10:09 > 0:10:12I think I fell in love with it quite soon after

0:10:12 > 0:10:13we walked into the door.

0:10:13 > 0:10:17I don't think either of us see it as a forever home by any means, but

0:10:17 > 0:10:20I guess as our first home together I think it's done us pretty well.

0:10:20 > 0:10:24So what would it take property-wise to tempt Amy down under?

0:10:24 > 0:10:25Upstairs.

0:10:25 > 0:10:29I don't think we've got a massive list of must-haves, have we?

0:10:29 > 0:10:32- Um...- An upstairs. - Yeah, OK, an upstairs for you.

0:10:32 > 0:10:35Swimming pool isn't quite a must-have, but it's pretty close.

0:10:35 > 0:10:38- Within walking distance of a beach would be...- Perfect, yeah.

0:10:38 > 0:10:40- Fantastic, yeah.- Yep.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43Somewhere really nice for our family to stay.

0:10:43 > 0:10:46Home is important to me, I take great pride in it.

0:10:46 > 0:10:50And I think if it wasn't as much as what

0:10:50 > 0:10:53I would hope it would be, I would find that really difficult.

0:10:58 > 0:11:02The couple would initially rent down under if Rob can persuade Amy

0:11:02 > 0:11:07to make the move, and have a budget of £1,500 a month.

0:11:07 > 0:11:09To show them what that could get them in Adelaide,

0:11:09 > 0:11:11we've arranged for them to view three properties -

0:11:11 > 0:11:14two close to their budget, and a third

0:11:14 > 0:11:16which could be their dream home.

0:11:17 > 0:11:19The day gets under way in Moana,

0:11:19 > 0:11:23a costal suburb 24 miles south of the city.

0:11:23 > 0:11:24With good transport links

0:11:24 > 0:11:27and a beach literally at the back door, this four-bedroom,

0:11:27 > 0:11:30two-storey property could be perfect for the couple.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33Straight away, Amy's spellbound.

0:11:33 > 0:11:38- I'm gobsmacked actually.- Yeah. - How close we are to the sea...- Yeah.

0:11:38 > 0:11:40Wow.

0:11:40 > 0:11:43- Pool table.- And a bar!- Do you get that as part of the package?

0:11:43 > 0:11:45SHE LAUGHS

0:11:45 > 0:11:47Fantastic.

0:11:47 > 0:11:49- It's quite the entrance room, isn't it, that?- Yeah.

0:11:49 > 0:11:51It's a promising start,

0:11:51 > 0:11:55and Amy's caught a glimpse of something to please Rob.

0:11:55 > 0:11:58- Oh, fantastic. I should have brought me swimming shorts. - SHE LAUGHS

0:11:58 > 0:12:00Oh, he's sold already.

0:12:01 > 0:12:04The large, open living area has much more room than at home.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06Wow.

0:12:06 > 0:12:08- It's really spacious, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:12:08 > 0:12:10Feels really big in comparison to our house!

0:12:10 > 0:12:13It does, it feels massive, yeah.

0:12:13 > 0:12:18This is exactly what I, sort of, imagine life to be like out here.

0:12:18 > 0:12:21This house could be helping Rob sell the dream,

0:12:21 > 0:12:23a point he's quick to drive home.

0:12:23 > 0:12:27- I don't want to overplay it, but this is kind of the dream really. - SHE LAUGHS

0:12:27 > 0:12:30I'm serious! I'm deadly serious. This is what I'm talking about.

0:12:30 > 0:12:33The view upstairs has Amy entranced.

0:12:33 > 0:12:35Oh, this is so gorgeous.

0:12:36 > 0:12:38Wow, wow, wow.

0:12:40 > 0:12:42- Oh, wow.- This is the master bedroom.

0:12:42 > 0:12:45And the walk in wardrobe, more importantly.

0:12:47 > 0:12:49God, that is incredible.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51HE LAUGHS

0:12:51 > 0:12:55For an en-suite, that's quite a big en-suite, isn't it really?

0:12:55 > 0:12:58And the property's got Rob feeling all paternal.

0:12:58 > 0:13:00Imagine being able to bring up a child here,

0:13:00 > 0:13:02and overlooking that beautiful view.

0:13:02 > 0:13:04- Mmm, yeah. - What more could you ask for?

0:13:04 > 0:13:06It's been a great start for Rob,

0:13:06 > 0:13:10but if the price for this palace is beyond the couple's £1,500

0:13:10 > 0:13:14rental budget, he could be back at square one.

0:13:14 > 0:13:16I think it's about £2,000.

0:13:16 > 0:13:19English pounds. A month, to rent. Yeah.

0:13:19 > 0:13:23I'm going to be optimistic and say £1,750 a month.

0:13:23 > 0:13:25- All right, shall I deliver the bad news?- Go on.

0:13:29 > 0:13:32Let's have a look.

0:13:32 > 0:13:34No!

0:13:34 > 0:13:35Oh, my God!

0:13:35 > 0:13:37Incredible.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39That's well within budget.

0:13:40 > 0:13:45That's a lot, lot, lot lower than what I thought.

0:13:45 > 0:13:47- I am genuinely really shocked. - I am, yeah.

0:13:47 > 0:13:50We could comfortably afford to live here.

0:13:50 > 0:13:53Yeah, unless I'm taking a big wage cut to come over here, then yeah.

0:13:53 > 0:13:55Yeah, comfortably.

0:13:58 > 0:14:00With the day off to a positive start,

0:14:00 > 0:14:03the couple head on to view property number two.

0:14:03 > 0:14:05It's located in the suburb of Marion.

0:14:05 > 0:14:10Although not as close to the beach as Moana, it is nearer to the city,

0:14:10 > 0:14:13meaning a shorter commute if the couple secure work there.

0:14:13 > 0:14:17This four-bedroom, 1960s property has been given a modern makeover.

0:14:17 > 0:14:22But will the meeting of old and new win Amy's approval?

0:14:22 > 0:14:26- I don't like it on first impressions. - Don't?- No.

0:14:26 > 0:14:29I don't like the entrance or any of...so far...

0:14:29 > 0:14:31I don't know...

0:14:31 > 0:14:33It's not English at all, is it?

0:14:34 > 0:14:36No.

0:14:36 > 0:14:40Maybe that's because it's Australian, Rob?

0:14:40 > 0:14:43This is almost quite...Olde Worlde English actually, isn't it?

0:14:43 > 0:14:45Make up your mind!

0:14:45 > 0:14:48Don't you think? Like, almost like a sitting room, isn't it?

0:14:48 > 0:14:50- Like a traditional English sitting room.- No.

0:14:50 > 0:14:54It doesn't have any...character, or...

0:14:54 > 0:14:57- Oh, I think it does.- It just looks to me like a box.

0:14:57 > 0:14:58No, how can you say that?

0:14:58 > 0:15:01With like, stone walls and loads of window space?

0:15:01 > 0:15:03I don't see how you can say it's got no character,

0:15:03 > 0:15:04it's got character...

0:15:04 > 0:15:07- OK, not the character that I like. - Yeah, it's different to your taste,

0:15:07 > 0:15:09I guess - but I think it's got character.

0:15:09 > 0:15:11This property's dividing opinion,

0:15:11 > 0:15:15and the large modern kitchen doesn't impress Amy either.

0:15:15 > 0:15:19- I don't know what to say. It doesn't go, for me.- Yeah.

0:15:20 > 0:15:23- I think it's a big space... - This is really modern,

0:15:23 > 0:15:26and the rest is, like...it just doesn't seem to work.

0:15:26 > 0:15:30It is a big, dark space, I think.

0:15:30 > 0:15:32The kitchen might be gloomy,

0:15:32 > 0:15:34but Rob's determined to keep a sunny outlook.

0:15:34 > 0:15:38The outside looks fantastic. Shall we have a look at the outside?

0:15:38 > 0:15:39This is beautiful.

0:15:39 > 0:15:41Don't you think?

0:15:41 > 0:15:44Outside lies a perfect spot for entertaining,

0:15:44 > 0:15:46and Rob's quick to resume the hard sell.

0:15:46 > 0:15:49Just imagine, like, having friends over from the UK,

0:15:49 > 0:15:51so you're having a barbie and having

0:15:51 > 0:15:53all your beers in the fridge, and chilling on the table.

0:15:53 > 0:15:56- Yeah, this part of it is... - This is lovely.- Lovely.

0:15:56 > 0:15:59But while everything in the garden's rosy...

0:15:59 > 0:16:02- I do love this outside space. - Yeah, it's gorgeous.

0:16:02 > 0:16:04..Amy's just not sold on the interior.

0:16:04 > 0:16:06The house itself could be beautiful, you know.

0:16:06 > 0:16:09If it was decorated differently, more to our taste. Do you not think?

0:16:09 > 0:16:12- No.- I think it could, I think it could be lovely.

0:16:12 > 0:16:14No, No, I don't. I think it's the house and that's it.

0:16:14 > 0:16:18If that's your style, fine, but that's not me.

0:16:19 > 0:16:22And the bedroom's decor doesn't help win her round.

0:16:22 > 0:16:23It's quite dark here, isn't it?

0:16:23 > 0:16:30Yeah. Really dark, really suppressive.

0:16:30 > 0:16:32Rob's doing his best to stay upbeat.

0:16:32 > 0:16:37- Nice walk-in wardrobe for you Amy. - Yeah, but you'd need a torch.

0:16:37 > 0:16:38HE LAUGHS

0:16:39 > 0:16:41Wow, it's massive.

0:16:42 > 0:16:43But Amy's mind's made up.

0:16:44 > 0:16:49There's nothing in this house that's my taste, shall we say.

0:16:49 > 0:16:53It's a beautiful house and they've clearly spent a lot of money

0:16:53 > 0:16:57on it, but it's wasted on me, because I just don't like that sort of thing.

0:16:57 > 0:17:00The dark design may mean that Rob's on a hiding to nothing with

0:17:00 > 0:17:03this house, but is it somewhere the couple could call home

0:17:03 > 0:17:07with their £1,500 a month rental budget?

0:17:07 > 0:17:08What do you think?

0:17:08 > 0:17:10Based on the last property, I think I'm going to say

0:17:10 > 0:17:14probably about £1,800 a month.

0:17:14 > 0:17:17I'm going to say...

0:17:17 > 0:17:18- £1,700.- OK.

0:17:24 > 0:17:25Ready for this?

0:17:27 > 0:17:29No way.

0:17:29 > 0:17:31It's exactly the same as the last one.

0:17:31 > 0:17:35It's well within reach, but Amy's not budging.

0:17:35 > 0:17:37I think, even how much it is per month to rent,

0:17:37 > 0:17:41it wouldn't swing it for me.

0:17:41 > 0:17:43I'd be really fascinated to see to see what

0:17:43 > 0:17:46we can get round here for a little bit more money, if we push

0:17:46 > 0:17:49ourselves a bit more, or if we can earn a little bit more out here.

0:17:49 > 0:17:51I dread to think!

0:17:51 > 0:17:52THEY LAUGH

0:17:52 > 0:17:56- You'll be wanting to move out here soon.- Might get a butler. THEY LAUGH

0:17:58 > 0:18:01Inspired by the price, if not the property,

0:18:01 > 0:18:04the couple head off to what could be their dream home.

0:18:04 > 0:18:05It's in Semaphore South,

0:18:05 > 0:18:09a costal suburb 30 minutes drive from Adelaide city.

0:18:09 > 0:18:13With the beach just a stone's throw away, and lively cafes within

0:18:13 > 0:18:16walking distance, could this three-bedroom house

0:18:16 > 0:18:19with its bright, modern design be the perfect pad?

0:18:19 > 0:18:21Oh!

0:18:21 > 0:18:23Wow... Oh!

0:18:24 > 0:18:26This is immense.

0:18:27 > 0:18:28(Wow.)

0:18:28 > 0:18:32That sounds like a positive reaction.

0:18:32 > 0:18:34This is incredible.

0:18:34 > 0:18:35Don't even know where to start.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39Kitchen's beautifully done, isn't it?

0:18:39 > 0:18:41With large windows throughout, this house

0:18:41 > 0:18:43is anything but dark and dingy.

0:18:43 > 0:18:46- We've got a pool.- Oh, no! - That's a good pool as well.

0:18:48 > 0:18:51- It's perfectly styled, isn't it? - Yeah, it's gorgeous.

0:18:51 > 0:18:54A styled, beautiful house - that's what it is.

0:18:56 > 0:18:58But Amy's thinking practically.

0:18:58 > 0:19:01- You see, it's like something out of a magazine.- Hmm?

0:19:01 > 0:19:04That would be really hard to maintain with...

0:19:04 > 0:19:06We have two great big dogs that are going to come in from the beach

0:19:06 > 0:19:11soaking wet and just slide along the tiles!

0:19:11 > 0:19:12- Yeah.- Do you know what I mean?

0:19:12 > 0:19:15It's beautiful - but, yeah, there's things...

0:19:15 > 0:19:17We could leave the dogs at home.

0:19:17 > 0:19:21Yeah... No. That's not going to happen.

0:19:21 > 0:19:24There's plenty of space for Amy's belongings.

0:19:24 > 0:19:28- More storage than we would ever need I think.- I wouldn't say that...

0:19:28 > 0:19:31- Do you think?- ..we've got one, two, three, four...

0:19:31 > 0:19:33I could fill those.

0:19:33 > 0:19:36And the master bedroom impresses too.

0:19:36 > 0:19:40The en-suite offers pure luxury.

0:19:40 > 0:19:42Oh, my God, what even is that?

0:19:42 > 0:19:44Look at the shower!

0:19:44 > 0:19:47- I don't even know how that works. - It's like a twin shower.

0:19:47 > 0:19:50- This is absolutely beautiful. - Wow, this is, ah...

0:19:50 > 0:19:52Jacuzzi as well.

0:19:52 > 0:19:55Wile the bedroom's balcony offers ocean views...

0:19:55 > 0:19:57The view is not too bad either.

0:19:57 > 0:20:00..It's not picture perfect for Amy.

0:20:00 > 0:20:02There's two great big trees blocking

0:20:02 > 0:20:05what you're paying all that money for.

0:20:05 > 0:20:08They would do my head in.

0:20:08 > 0:20:09I think you are being quite picky.

0:20:11 > 0:20:13You might be right there, Rob.

0:20:13 > 0:20:16This house could offer the couple luxury living,

0:20:16 > 0:20:18even if trees spoil the view.

0:20:18 > 0:20:20But will it be out of reach

0:20:20 > 0:20:22of the couple's £1,500 monthly rental budget?

0:20:22 > 0:20:25I think it's definitely going to be over two grand a month.

0:20:25 > 0:20:29Yeah. I would say about £2,300. A month.

0:20:29 > 0:20:33- Right then, shall we have a look what the damage is?- Yep.

0:20:35 > 0:20:38Dum-dum-duuummm... HE LAUGHS

0:20:38 > 0:20:39No way.

0:20:41 > 0:20:43I'm really shocked at that.

0:20:43 > 0:20:45It could still be within the couple's reach,

0:20:45 > 0:20:47but Amy's just not convinced.

0:20:48 > 0:20:51It doesn't sway me at all though.

0:20:51 > 0:20:53I'm just really taken aback that you could have

0:20:53 > 0:20:59something as wow as this for £1,700 a month.

0:20:59 > 0:21:02It hasn't made me think any differently about it though,

0:21:02 > 0:21:05I still feel exactly the same as I did

0:21:05 > 0:21:08before I knew how much it would cost to rent.

0:21:08 > 0:21:13I do understand that what you say is absolutely valid, that it's...

0:21:13 > 0:21:15As beautiful as it is, it's not entirely practical for us,

0:21:15 > 0:21:16I suppose.

0:21:20 > 0:21:23Rob and Amy's hunt for a possible home has shown just how

0:21:23 > 0:21:26far their money could stretch in Adelaide.

0:21:26 > 0:21:28Property one was a hit,

0:21:28 > 0:21:31and somewhere the couple could both imagine as home.

0:21:31 > 0:21:34Property number two had a gorgeous garden,

0:21:34 > 0:21:37but it's gloomy interior just didn't impress.

0:21:37 > 0:21:40And though the final house was a show-stopper,

0:21:40 > 0:21:44the thought of paw prints on the patio was a turnoff for Amy.

0:21:44 > 0:21:47So, have Aussie homes helped or hindered Rob's wish

0:21:47 > 0:21:49for a new life down under?

0:21:49 > 0:21:52Based on the properties that we've seen today around Adelaide,

0:21:52 > 0:21:54our vote is going to go to...

0:22:01 > 0:22:04- Australia.- Australia.

0:22:06 > 0:22:07Good choice.

0:22:07 > 0:22:09That was a bit of a no-brainer, really!

0:22:09 > 0:22:11It was, really, it was. I think it's got to be

0:22:11 > 0:22:14the easiest vote we're going to have this week, I'd like to think.

0:22:14 > 0:22:16Yeah, I've been pleasant...

0:22:16 > 0:22:20- well, more than pleasantly surprised by what we can afford.- Yeah.

0:22:20 > 0:22:23It would be stupid for me to not vote for Australia, I think, so...

0:22:36 > 0:22:40A vote for Australia from Amy is a step in the right direction for Rob

0:22:40 > 0:22:44but there's still a long way to go if he's to convince her to make the move.

0:22:44 > 0:22:47Finding the right career prospects could help.

0:22:49 > 0:22:51Rob's the main visa applicant.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54Back in the UK, he works in telecommunications.

0:22:54 > 0:22:57I work as part of a sales team, effectively.

0:22:57 > 0:23:01I do kind of network designs and customer workshops.

0:23:01 > 0:23:04Amy's a beauty therapist.

0:23:04 > 0:23:06I love my job, I love it.

0:23:06 > 0:23:10I used to work for the bank when I left school initially and I hated it.

0:23:10 > 0:23:13Rob's hoping to find a role similar to his current one down under.

0:23:13 > 0:23:16I love my job and I don't really see myself doing anything

0:23:16 > 0:23:18massively different in the future, to be honest.

0:23:18 > 0:23:22I see myself within the same industry doing a similar type of role.

0:23:22 > 0:23:26And while Amy does enjoy her job, she's not so keen on the late nights

0:23:26 > 0:23:29and weekend working so is looking for something more nine-to-five.

0:23:29 > 0:23:33For me, a move to Australia is about us having a better quality of life,

0:23:33 > 0:23:35- more time together as a family.- Yeah.

0:23:35 > 0:23:40As the main breadwinner, a move would hinge on Rob finding a well-paid job.

0:23:40 > 0:23:44If we were to go over there and find out that we were going to be

0:23:44 > 0:23:48financially less well-off, then it would make it very difficult

0:23:48 > 0:23:51for us to justify moving over there, erm...

0:23:51 > 0:23:53It would be a no.

0:23:53 > 0:23:55It would make it difficult.

0:23:58 > 0:24:02With Rob's hopes riding on the day the couple set out

0:24:02 > 0:24:05to explore what work options Adelaide has to offer.

0:24:05 > 0:24:08First up, Rob meets with expat Declan O'Callaghan,

0:24:08 > 0:24:11managing director of a telecommunications company.

0:24:11 > 0:24:15He's keen to discover if the world of telecoms is different down under.

0:24:16 > 0:24:20Technology's the same, so whether you're deploying something

0:24:20 > 0:24:23highly sophisticated or something simple you'll be doing

0:24:23 > 0:24:26exactly the same thing from the UK as what you would be doing here.

0:24:26 > 0:24:29I think all of your skills will be transferable over.

0:24:29 > 0:24:32Do you think that there's potential for me to find work out here?

0:24:32 > 0:24:34We're always looking to recruit great people

0:24:34 > 0:24:39and I think your skill sets and what you're bringing to Australia...

0:24:39 > 0:24:42- I'd love to have a further conversation with you. - Brilliant, that's great to hear.

0:24:42 > 0:24:45It's sounding promising for Rob.

0:24:45 > 0:24:48Across town, Amy's meeting Tania Walsh,

0:24:48 > 0:24:52managing director of an Adelaide-based beauty products company.

0:24:52 > 0:24:55- Hi, I'm Amy.- Hi.- Nice to meet you. - Nice to meet you, welcome.

0:24:55 > 0:24:58Amy's keen to explore other options in the beauty business

0:24:58 > 0:25:01which would give her more regular hours.

0:25:01 > 0:25:04A customer service role, I can see you would fit in perfectly -

0:25:04 > 0:25:08a) Because you've had previous customer service experience

0:25:08 > 0:25:11in both, you know, the banking sector and in beauty therapy.

0:25:11 > 0:25:12That sounds great.

0:25:12 > 0:25:16Her skills could be a plus - and the hours?

0:25:16 > 0:25:20We work in extended days, so it's eight o'clock in the morning till five-thirty of the evening.

0:25:20 > 0:25:22Everyone has a Friday off.

0:25:22 > 0:25:27Fantastic, that sounds...that sounds really good, getting a Friday and Saturday off!

0:25:27 > 0:25:31It could be the perfect role for Amy, but would an opening exist?

0:25:31 > 0:25:35There is going to be quite dramatic expansion within the company

0:25:35 > 0:25:40so there would be opportunities for roles coming up that suit you

0:25:40 > 0:25:44so we'd love you to put forward an application.

0:25:44 > 0:25:45Fantastic, thank you.

0:25:45 > 0:25:49It's proved a promising visit for Amy.

0:25:49 > 0:25:52Back with Declan, Rob's talking money.

0:25:52 > 0:25:57Someone with your skill set and attributes in our organisation

0:25:57 > 0:26:00would be about the 110 to 120,000 mark.

0:26:00 > 0:26:06120,000 Australian dollars equates to approximately £65,500.

0:26:06 > 0:26:09That sounds like a little bit of a drop on what I'm currently earning in the UK.

0:26:09 > 0:26:14In fact, Rob would earn almost £10,000 a year less in Adelaide.

0:26:14 > 0:26:17His dream could be slipping from his grasp -

0:26:17 > 0:26:20could Amy's salary help out?

0:26:20 > 0:26:25On average, our customer service representatives earn around 50,000 dollars a year plus their super.

0:26:25 > 0:26:28Wow, that's... that's quite impressive.

0:26:28 > 0:26:31That's over £27,000 per year -

0:26:31 > 0:26:35almost double what Amy currently earns in the UK.

0:26:35 > 0:26:38So with more time off and a large uplift in salary,

0:26:38 > 0:26:42could Amy be beginning to see the appeal in emigrating?

0:26:42 > 0:26:45I would go as far as to say I'm gobsmacked.

0:26:45 > 0:26:48It sounds perfect, almost too good to be true.

0:26:48 > 0:26:51It's not been such a positive day for Rob, though.

0:26:51 > 0:26:53I guess I feel slightly deflated.

0:26:53 > 0:26:56I'd want to be coming over here with a pay rise if I'm entirely honest,

0:26:56 > 0:27:00rather than what we've just talked about which is effectively a pay reduction.

0:27:00 > 0:27:03So it's not been exactly the sort of answer I was looking for today.

0:27:03 > 0:27:07So will their day discovering Adelaide's employment opportunities

0:27:07 > 0:27:10see the couple choose the UK or Australia?

0:27:10 > 0:27:15So based on what we've done today with our work opportunities in Australia,

0:27:15 > 0:27:18the country that we're going to go for is...

0:27:22 > 0:27:24Undecided.

0:27:29 > 0:27:32- I know you're not going to be very happy with that...- You cop-out!

0:27:32 > 0:27:35- I have very solid reasons for it. - OK?

0:27:35 > 0:27:38I think, based on the conversations I've had today,

0:27:38 > 0:27:42the particular opportunity... He's a fantastic guy, but

0:27:42 > 0:27:45I don't think his business is large enough to pay me the sort of money that I want.

0:27:45 > 0:27:49For me, the work opportunities that I would have out here,

0:27:49 > 0:27:53even though it wouldn't be what would get us out here in the first place,

0:27:53 > 0:27:58are actually really exciting. So, for me...

0:27:58 > 0:28:00Australia.

0:28:06 > 0:28:11A day exploring work options has seen the tables turned.

0:28:11 > 0:28:14While Amy's excited about her potential career down under,

0:28:14 > 0:28:18it may now be Rob who's beginning to question if a move would actually be

0:28:18 > 0:28:21in the couple's best interests.

0:28:21 > 0:28:27So will a chilled-out day Aussie-style help remind him why he's had this long-held dream?

0:28:30 > 0:28:35A popular weekend pastime for young couples in Adelaide is to visit one of the area's vineyards.

0:28:35 > 0:28:39So Rob and Amy head to a local winery to enjoy a tour -

0:28:39 > 0:28:40and a tipple or two.

0:28:44 > 0:28:46After a look around in the sunshine,

0:28:46 > 0:28:50Helen's on hand to give the couple a taste of the local vintage.

0:28:50 > 0:28:53- Here we go, enjoy.- Thank you. - Bottoms up.- Yeah.

0:28:54 > 0:28:59- You can taste the nice citrus sort of characters...- Very fresh. - Yeah, exactly.

0:28:59 > 0:29:00It's a lovely little wine.

0:29:00 > 0:29:03You sure you don't want to spit it out?

0:29:03 > 0:29:05No, I'll keep it, thanks!

0:29:05 > 0:29:07Quite right, Amy!

0:29:07 > 0:29:10- I'm intrigued by the label on that one.- These are all dogs that are

0:29:10 > 0:29:13from people on our mailing list and every year we change the label so...

0:29:13 > 0:29:15- Oh, that's such a lovely thing to see!- Yeah.

0:29:15 > 0:29:19- Can we get on the mailing list and send ours?- Yes, of course, if you've got a dog, yeah!

0:29:19 > 0:29:22Yeah, we've got two. Helen, thank you so much for that, we really enjoyed it.

0:29:22 > 0:29:25- Can we please have a bottle of the rose, please?- Certainly.

0:29:25 > 0:29:29With Amy in a mellow mood, Rob seizes the opportunity to ask

0:29:29 > 0:29:31what she makes of Australia so far.

0:29:32 > 0:29:34Surprisingly good.

0:29:34 > 0:29:37I was hoping that as part of my grand master plan

0:29:37 > 0:29:41that it wouldn't actually go this well so far.

0:29:41 > 0:29:46Everything feels quite familiar, almost, and quite comfortable.

0:29:46 > 0:29:49Literally from the first moment we got here I just felt like,

0:29:49 > 0:29:52- it just feels right, you know. - Mm-hmm.- Everything feels right.

0:29:52 > 0:29:55- It's everything that you wanted it to be.- Yeah, so far it is, yeah.

0:29:55 > 0:29:59I see that, I see how happy you are here and...

0:30:00 > 0:30:04- Yeah.- You feel it too? - Erm, I feel the pressure!

0:30:04 > 0:30:10Today's been a taste of what life down under could be like and Rob's definitely sold.

0:30:10 > 0:30:14This to me is exactly what the Australian dream is all about, you know.

0:30:14 > 0:30:17It's about spending your spare time in a beautiful place like this.

0:30:17 > 0:30:19This is exactly what I want.

0:30:19 > 0:30:22I knew he would get here and he would love everything about Australia,

0:30:22 > 0:30:27there would be nothing that could possibly deter him from wanting to live here.

0:30:27 > 0:30:32Choosing Australia in both votes so far, Amy has seen the country's appeal -

0:30:32 > 0:30:37meaning she's now beginning to wrestle with the thought of leaving the UK.

0:30:37 > 0:30:41All of this is so incredible but without your family I just...

0:30:45 > 0:30:47I don't know if I could do it.

0:30:47 > 0:30:51Yeah, I wanted to come and have reasons to say no -

0:30:51 > 0:30:54that it wasn't right for us, it wasn't right for me -

0:30:54 > 0:30:58but actually I'm here and I don't feel that way.

0:31:02 > 0:31:06So will Amy's vote keep Rob's dream moving in the right direction?

0:31:06 > 0:31:09Based on the lifestyle activities that we've enjoyed today,

0:31:09 > 0:31:11our vote goes to...

0:31:15 > 0:31:17- Australia.- Australia.

0:31:19 > 0:31:24It's fantastic to see that you're seeing the same things that I'm seeing

0:31:24 > 0:31:27and that you understand that we could be really happy here.

0:31:27 > 0:31:30Yeah, yeah, I do

0:31:30 > 0:31:35and what we've done today has proved how much more we can do with life

0:31:35 > 0:31:38instead of in the UK, you know? Yeah, from that point of view

0:31:38 > 0:31:41I think it was always going to be Australia.

0:31:48 > 0:31:52With a clean sweep of votes for Australia from Amy so far,

0:31:52 > 0:31:55Rob's hopes for a life down under could be within reach -

0:31:55 > 0:31:58but the finances will need to stack up.

0:31:58 > 0:32:02Although they'd rent in Adelaide, the couple would sell their house

0:32:02 > 0:32:03in the UK to help fund a move.

0:32:03 > 0:32:07They think it's worth around £140,000.

0:32:07 > 0:32:11To see if their valuation's correct, we sent round two local estate agents.

0:32:12 > 0:32:15- Right, shall we get this over and done with?- Let's do it.

0:32:16 > 0:32:18It's a nice spacious lounge

0:32:18 > 0:32:23and features a bay fronted window which is nice, it opens the room up a little bit more.

0:32:23 > 0:32:25The rear living room is of quite a good size

0:32:25 > 0:32:28and I can see that certain work has been carried out here.

0:32:28 > 0:32:31Right, we're in the kitchen now and the first thing I notice

0:32:31 > 0:32:36is that it is quite small, typical of this period of house.

0:32:36 > 0:32:37Nice sized family bathroom,

0:32:37 > 0:32:40looks as though it's been replaced in the last few years.

0:32:40 > 0:32:42Well we're now in the master bedroom

0:32:42 > 0:32:44and, again, this has been decorated to a good standard...

0:32:44 > 0:32:46- It looks really small! - ..looks very appealing.

0:32:46 > 0:32:48Office room here, quite nice.

0:32:48 > 0:32:52Room redecorated, they've kept it in line with the characteristics

0:32:52 > 0:32:54of the property - a nice room.

0:32:54 > 0:32:57If you're looking to market this property today, I would be looking to market it at

0:32:57 > 0:32:59between £152-160,000.

0:32:59 > 0:33:03If they're looking for a quick sale then we're looking at £132,000.

0:33:05 > 0:33:09If we were to market the house we would initially offer it for sale

0:33:09 > 0:33:10at a figure of 165

0:33:10 > 0:33:14and if a quick sale is required we'd expect a figure of 160.

0:33:15 > 0:33:19I'm really pleasantly surprised, to be fair, that we could be looking at

0:33:19 > 0:33:22maybe as much as, kind of, even 25 grand more than we expected, maybe.

0:33:22 > 0:33:25It's certainly a lot more money than I think we both thought that it was worth.

0:33:25 > 0:33:27- Really positive.- Yeah.

0:33:29 > 0:33:31They're encouraging valuations,

0:33:31 > 0:33:35but what about the cost of living in Australia versus the UK?

0:33:35 > 0:33:37- Shall we have a look then? - Yeah, let's.

0:33:37 > 0:33:39I'll let you do the honours, I think.

0:33:39 > 0:33:43We've prepared a comparison of costs, beginning with the weekly grocery shop.

0:33:43 > 0:33:45To be honest, I'm quite surprised by some of these .

0:33:45 > 0:33:49- To be fair, steak - I think we've already kind of seen that, haven't we?- Yeah.

0:33:49 > 0:33:53I mean, the meat out here seems to be quite a lot cheaper, so that one doesn't surprise me

0:33:53 > 0:33:54but things like fruit juice...

0:33:54 > 0:33:57Wine is more expensive,

0:33:57 > 0:34:00- peppers, salad and stuff is more expensive.- Yeah.

0:34:00 > 0:34:04Gosh, what's that one? That's so much cheaper. Rice is a lot cheaper.

0:34:04 > 0:34:07So how does the weekly shopping bill add up?

0:34:08 > 0:34:10£12.99...

0:34:10 > 0:34:13- Worse off.- Worse off per week, yeah.

0:34:13 > 0:34:17- So what's that times four?- £51.96. - Per month.- Yeah.

0:34:19 > 0:34:21That's peanuts.

0:34:21 > 0:34:24An extra £50 per month for food hasn't put Rob off,

0:34:24 > 0:34:27but how do the bigger numbers add up?

0:34:27 > 0:34:32The couple currently pay a mortgage of £685 a month in the UK.

0:34:32 > 0:34:35Basing their sums on the rent for the first house they viewed,

0:34:35 > 0:34:38their monthly property costs down under would more than double.

0:34:40 > 0:34:44- So, difference is minus 745.- OK. - That's quite a big difference.

0:34:44 > 0:34:47HE LAUGHS It ain't half.

0:34:47 > 0:34:50Taking on board all the other Australian outgoings,

0:34:50 > 0:34:54the couple would be spending £152 more per month down under -

0:34:54 > 0:34:58a deficit of around £2,000 a year.

0:34:58 > 0:35:01But Amy's salary would receive a healthy boost in Australia

0:35:01 > 0:35:05and paying less tax would actually see Rob's increase too.

0:35:05 > 0:35:07I mean, the big one there is you, isn't it? That's a

0:35:07 > 0:35:10massive difference between the UK number and the Aussie number.

0:35:10 > 0:35:12Yeah.

0:35:12 > 0:35:14So taking salaries into account,

0:35:14 > 0:35:16would the couple be better off down under?

0:35:16 > 0:35:19We would be better off by £1,343...

0:35:21 > 0:35:24- Yep.- ..and 38 pence.

0:35:24 > 0:35:26- Per month.- Yep.

0:35:26 > 0:35:32Moving could see their bank balance increase by £16,000 a year.

0:35:32 > 0:35:34HE WHISTLES What do you think?

0:35:36 > 0:35:38- It's in black and white.- It is, yeah.

0:35:38 > 0:35:41I'm really quite shocked at that, actually, cos it all looks

0:35:41 > 0:35:44a lot better than I could have ever imagined, to be honest.

0:35:44 > 0:35:47The figures sort of speak for themselves, don't they?

0:35:47 > 0:35:49It's good, I can go shopping!

0:35:52 > 0:35:55And that should aid Rob's case even further.

0:35:55 > 0:35:58Based upon the cost of living in Australia,

0:35:58 > 0:36:00our vote goes to...

0:36:06 > 0:36:08- Australia.- Australia.

0:36:10 > 0:36:14- That was pretty easy, wasn't it, to be honest.- Yeah, yeah.

0:36:14 > 0:36:17- The money pretty much speaks for itself really, I think.- Yeah.

0:36:17 > 0:36:23And there's enough money left over for us to do things like the nice holidays,

0:36:23 > 0:36:29flights home, perhaps, as and when we want / need to.

0:36:29 > 0:36:33- Yeah.- So, yeah, another Australia vote.- Consistent.

0:36:41 > 0:36:46All week, Amy's been won round by the opportunities Australia could offer

0:36:46 > 0:36:50but Rob's about to face his biggest obstacle -

0:36:50 > 0:36:53the thought of Amy leaving her close family at home.

0:36:53 > 0:36:58Will hearing from them prove a final fatal setback for his plans?

0:36:58 > 0:37:01We've put together a DVD of messages to let the couple hear how

0:37:01 > 0:37:05family and friends are feeling back in the UK.

0:37:06 > 0:37:08I'm not looking forward to this at all.

0:37:08 > 0:37:12I know, this is got to be the hardest part of it all, I think, hasn't it?

0:37:12 > 0:37:14- Yeah. Right.- We'll do it together.

0:37:18 > 0:37:20Hiya, Amy. Hiya, Rob.

0:37:20 > 0:37:22Hello, you two.

0:37:22 > 0:37:24- Hi, guys.- Hi, Rob. Hi, Amy.

0:37:24 > 0:37:27Hey, guys. Hope you've had a fantastic week. Greg?

0:37:28 > 0:37:30Nah, I'm just not talking till he comes back.

0:37:30 > 0:37:34Ha! I'm only joking. Guys, I hope you had a really, really good week.

0:37:34 > 0:37:36Hi, Rob. Hi, Amy.

0:37:36 > 0:37:40Rob's a great character, Rob's my older brother from another mother.

0:37:40 > 0:37:42Best mate, great laugh, great fun.

0:37:42 > 0:37:44Amy would do anything for you.

0:37:44 > 0:37:49She's a nice girl, she's my best friend, Amy - without a doubt.

0:37:49 > 0:37:51I don't want to say that loosely, she is.

0:37:51 > 0:37:55She's my everything and

0:37:55 > 0:37:57she breathes in and I breathe out.

0:37:57 > 0:38:01They will be so sorely missed, should they decide to go

0:38:01 > 0:38:03and live in Australia.

0:38:03 > 0:38:06I really would miss her. She has been a godsend to me.

0:38:06 > 0:38:08We won't try and stop you going

0:38:08 > 0:38:10but when it actually comes to the

0:38:10 > 0:38:13put-to, it's a different kettle of fish.

0:38:15 > 0:38:16And, erm...

0:38:22 > 0:38:27Our relationship goes beyond mother and daughter,

0:38:27 > 0:38:28she's my best friend.

0:38:28 > 0:38:32If it is that you decide to go, we'll miss you terribly - there's no doubt about that.

0:38:32 > 0:38:38If what you've seen is what you want and it's right for you both,

0:38:38 > 0:38:44grasp it with both hands and we both wish you both the best of luck.

0:38:44 > 0:38:47We look forward to seeing you when you come home.

0:38:47 > 0:38:50And I'll be at the airport, way before I should,

0:38:50 > 0:38:52to get you back home.

0:38:54 > 0:38:57- Are you all right?- Yeah.

0:38:57 > 0:38:59That was really hard.

0:39:00 > 0:39:03I've never seen your mum like that, either.

0:39:03 > 0:39:05It's tough to see, really tough.

0:39:05 > 0:39:08This is what I've been worried about all week.

0:39:08 > 0:39:10No matter how great things have been,

0:39:10 > 0:39:14this is just always what's been in the background for me.

0:39:16 > 0:39:19Yeah, it does put some perspective on it, I suppose.

0:39:22 > 0:39:25With Amy consistently voting for Australia,

0:39:25 > 0:39:31it had looked like she'd been won over by the idea of starting a new life down under.

0:39:31 > 0:39:35But with messages from home proving heartbreaking for both her and Rob,

0:39:35 > 0:39:41will the couple now decide the emotional cost of a move is just too high a price to pay?

0:39:45 > 0:39:50He's dreamt of the country for a decade and from the second he touched down

0:39:50 > 0:39:53Rob seemed convinced Australia's where he should be.

0:39:53 > 0:39:57At times I suppose it's kind of bordered on a little bit of an obsession in the past

0:39:57 > 0:40:00and I think coming here has arguably made that even worse.

0:40:00 > 0:40:03I think from the moment I landed I felt like I was at home.

0:40:03 > 0:40:06Time spent in Adelaide has also showed Amy

0:40:06 > 0:40:10there's some merit to the dream life Rob's been chasing for so long.

0:40:11 > 0:40:15This week's been lots of highs, more highs than I expected, actually.

0:40:15 > 0:40:19I've come here and I've felt really at home.

0:40:19 > 0:40:25But thoughts of family in the UK have threatened to overshadow any upsides.

0:40:25 > 0:40:27The last couple of days, I suppose,

0:40:27 > 0:40:32the doubts and the worries about family have started to creep in.

0:40:33 > 0:40:37And if things happen back home, I don't know, heaven forbid,

0:40:37 > 0:40:40someone was in a car accident or...

0:40:40 > 0:40:42you're not there, you're a long way away.

0:40:42 > 0:40:45The couple are about to decide where they'll spend the rest of their lives

0:40:45 > 0:40:50and Rob's pinning his hopes on Amy thinking Australia's the answer.

0:40:50 > 0:40:54I'm genuinely not too sure which way it's going to go.

0:40:54 > 0:40:58If it doesn't go the way that I want it to I'm going to be absolutely gutted, I really am.

0:40:58 > 0:41:02I only came here because...

0:41:02 > 0:41:04because I love Rob so much and...

0:41:06 > 0:41:10It would have been so much easier if I hadn't seen it.

0:41:10 > 0:41:13I think, deep down, she knows that whatever she decides

0:41:13 > 0:41:15somebody's going to end up getting hurt.

0:41:15 > 0:41:18I feel like I've got the weight of the world on my shoulders right now.

0:41:20 > 0:41:22I've got my husband...

0:41:23 > 0:41:27and my family. You have no idea.

0:41:29 > 0:41:31No idea.

0:41:31 > 0:41:36So has Amy seen enough to grant her husband's wish of a life in Australia,

0:41:36 > 0:41:40or will the pull of family see Rob's decade of dreaming dashed?

0:41:41 > 0:41:43We've had a fantastic week in Adelaide,

0:41:43 > 0:41:46so based on all of that our vote for the week goes to...

0:41:57 > 0:41:58Australia.

0:42:01 > 0:42:04Such a cop-out.

0:42:04 > 0:42:05You are, such a hypocrite!

0:42:05 > 0:42:09- I know. I always...- Hyp-o-crite.

0:42:09 > 0:42:13- I always said I wouldn't do this.- You always said you wouldn't do this.

0:42:13 > 0:42:16I genuinely, I can't call it either way.

0:42:18 > 0:42:22I think you're a massive cop-out but I understand what you're saying.

0:42:22 > 0:42:25Perhaps we do need to take that little bit more time to think about what we want to do -

0:42:25 > 0:42:28or, that you do.

0:42:28 > 0:42:30Could we do six months of the year in the UK

0:42:30 > 0:42:32and six months of the year in Australia?

0:42:32 > 0:42:35Cost us a fortune.

0:42:35 > 0:42:36And you know what we've said all along -

0:42:36 > 0:42:40no matter what happens, as long as we're together it doesn't matter.

0:42:40 > 0:42:43(Come here.)

0:42:43 > 0:42:46- Together for ever.- Together for ever.

0:42:47 > 0:42:51- What a week!- What a week. Can't believe you bottled it at the end.

0:42:55 > 0:42:59Despite the country living up to his expectations and best efforts,

0:42:59 > 0:43:06it seems Rob's still some way off persuading Amy to leave the UK and her family.

0:43:06 > 0:43:09His dream of life in Australia may be over for now,

0:43:09 > 0:43:12but who knows - at some point in the future,

0:43:12 > 0:43:16the Bowens could yet be packing for a move down under.

0:43:16 > 0:43:19Wherever their future lies, we hope it's a happy one.
