0:00:02 > 0:00:04Life's often far from plain sailing

0:00:04 > 0:00:07but if you had had more than your fair share of tough times,

0:00:07 > 0:00:11what lengths would you go to to give your family a fresh start?

0:00:11 > 0:00:13Could you uproot them from everything

0:00:13 > 0:00:18they know to begin a new life on the other side of the world?

0:00:18 > 0:00:21Having survived challenging times, Gareth and Zoe Lloyd

0:00:21 > 0:00:24were hoping to make a fresh start in Australia.

0:00:24 > 0:00:28We have been through quite a lot at such a young age.

0:00:28 > 0:00:32But when their second son was born, it looked like an impossible move.

0:00:32 > 0:00:35Riley was born with the condition called albinism.

0:00:35 > 0:00:39Five years on, the dream's back but when a trial week shows

0:00:39 > 0:00:41the country's good and bad points...

0:00:41 > 0:00:43- Look at that!- I'm speechless.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45It's like it's all been snatched away, hasn't it?

0:00:45 > 0:00:48..will they decide the grass is greener at home?

0:00:48 > 0:00:50It's a bigger decision than what I thought.

0:01:13 > 0:01:16Famed for its pristine beaches and fabulous lifestyle,

0:01:16 > 0:01:20Australia welcomes a new immigrant around every two minutes.

0:01:20 > 0:01:24Add a thriving economy, with plentiful work opportunities,

0:01:24 > 0:01:26then it's easy to see why.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29For over 25 years, the country's been the top

0:01:29 > 0:01:33choice for British families seeking a happy and prosperous future.

0:01:35 > 0:01:38After challenging times together, the Lloyd family are hoping

0:01:38 > 0:01:42Australia can give them the fresh start they're longing for.

0:01:42 > 0:01:46They'll have just one week to sample everything the country

0:01:46 > 0:01:49can offer before making the biggest decision of their lives -

0:01:49 > 0:01:52whether to stay in the UK,

0:01:52 > 0:01:55or move to the other side of the world for good.

0:01:56 > 0:02:00The family's journey kicks off with a 26-and-a-half hour trek,

0:02:00 > 0:02:03flying from Manchester to Adelaide.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07Oldest son Connor's relieved when they eventually touch down.

0:02:07 > 0:02:09I'm really tired after flying.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12I must have only had about four hours' sleep. It was all right.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14Gareth and Zoe enjoyed the journey.

0:02:14 > 0:02:16It was a lot easier than we anticipated.

0:02:16 > 0:02:19Yeah, we were excited, we were nervous.

0:02:19 > 0:02:23Though it was his first time flying, Riley's taken it in his stride.

0:02:23 > 0:02:25The flight was good.

0:02:25 > 0:02:30After years dreaming about Oz, how do Gareth and Zoe feel to have made it down under?

0:02:30 > 0:02:33It feels brilliant, to be honest. The sun is shining.

0:02:33 > 0:02:35I'm really looking forward to see what's to come.

0:02:35 > 0:02:39Now I'm here, I'm really excited to see what Australia's got to offer.

0:02:39 > 0:02:42As the family set off into Adelaide, they know their

0:02:42 > 0:02:45entire future's riding on what happens over the next week.

0:02:53 > 0:02:55Meet the Lloyds from Ashton-in-Makerfield.

0:02:55 > 0:02:59They're Gareth, Zoe, 14-year-old Conner,

0:02:59 > 0:03:02five-year-old Riley and baby Mason.

0:03:02 > 0:03:05Teenage sweethearts Gareth and Zoe met when they were 15

0:03:05 > 0:03:09and 16 years old at a holiday camp in Gareth's hometown in north Wales.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13If I recall, it was Zoe who came over to me

0:03:13 > 0:03:16- and asked for the time. - Gareth asked me for the time.

0:03:16 > 0:03:19We'll agree to disagree on that.

0:03:19 > 0:03:24It was love at first sight and Zoe fell pregnant a few months later.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26Zoe was 16.

0:03:26 > 0:03:30Erm, I mean it wasn't planned, we were still kids ourselves.

0:03:30 > 0:03:32Going into labour ten weeks prematurely,

0:03:32 > 0:03:36Zoe dramatically gave birth in the back of Gareth's mum's car.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39Connor decided it was time he was going to join us

0:03:39 > 0:03:41in the back of the car.

0:03:41 > 0:03:45Much to a shock to myself, out he popped and luckily I managed to catch him.

0:03:45 > 0:03:50People'll argue I delivered him, I would say more of a catch.

0:03:50 > 0:03:53It was an experience Zoe will never forget.

0:03:53 > 0:03:55Connor was the size of Gareth's hand.

0:03:55 > 0:03:59I didn't think he was alive because he didn't cry.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02Because he was so tiny,

0:04:02 > 0:04:05and I was really scared and panicky.

0:04:05 > 0:04:07Connor spent two months in intensive care

0:04:07 > 0:04:10but just after getting him home, the young couple were dealt another

0:04:10 > 0:04:14blow when they were in a fatal car crash with one of Gareth's friends.

0:04:14 > 0:04:17Tragically the driver lost his life

0:04:17 > 0:04:20and my other friend was seriously injured,

0:04:20 > 0:04:24as well as Zoe who sustained serious injuries to her neck and her back.

0:04:24 > 0:04:29X-rays revealed an unstable fracture in her spine and Zoe was rushed to

0:04:29 > 0:04:33a specialist hospital, robbing her of bonding time with baby, Connor.

0:04:33 > 0:04:35I was in hospital knowing that

0:04:35 > 0:04:37I wouldn't be out of there for a couple of months.

0:04:37 > 0:04:39I was on my own.

0:04:39 > 0:04:41I'll start crying now.

0:04:42 > 0:04:45Gareth's parents helped care for Connor, while he split his time

0:04:45 > 0:04:49between studies to be a heating engineer and the hospital.

0:04:49 > 0:04:53Finally, after learning to walk again, Zoe was allowed home.

0:04:53 > 0:04:56I had to wear a full body brace and an Aspen collar,

0:04:56 > 0:04:59for six months after I come out.

0:04:59 > 0:05:02The couple had experienced more trauma in a year than most go

0:05:02 > 0:05:06through in a lifetime but after returning to Zoe's hometown in England,

0:05:06 > 0:05:08life settled down.

0:05:08 > 0:05:12Until Gareth introduced his dream of moving down under.

0:05:12 > 0:05:16It's something that's been on my mind ever since I qualified.

0:05:16 > 0:05:20From what I've researched and understood, it's a better life,

0:05:20 > 0:05:21better weather.

0:05:21 > 0:05:24You know, potentially better opportunities out there.

0:05:24 > 0:05:27After everything they've been through, moving to the other side

0:05:27 > 0:05:30of the world was a step too far for Zoe.

0:05:30 > 0:05:34About ten years ago he mentioned it and I just dismissed it straightaway.

0:05:34 > 0:05:37We've never been out there, I've never been there

0:05:37 > 0:05:40so I wasn't really interested.

0:05:40 > 0:05:44Gareth finally persuaded Zoe to make the move and the couple were

0:05:44 > 0:05:49preparing to apply for a Visa in 2007 when Zoe fell pregnant again.

0:05:49 > 0:05:52When their second son was born, though, their hopes were dashed.

0:05:52 > 0:05:56Riley was born with a condition called albinism

0:05:56 > 0:06:00which basically means no pigment in the skin, the eyes and the hair

0:06:00 > 0:06:04and very, very sensitive to sunlight.

0:06:04 > 0:06:06Good boy, keep going.

0:06:06 > 0:06:09The plans to emigrate to Australia were definitely over then,

0:06:09 > 0:06:11so we thought.

0:06:11 > 0:06:14Advised Riley should avoid the sun and wouldn't enjoy being

0:06:14 > 0:06:18outdoors, moving to one of the hottest countries on earth

0:06:18 > 0:06:21seemed a no-go but online research about his condition

0:06:21 > 0:06:24and the Australian attitude to staying safe in the sun,

0:06:24 > 0:06:29has now led the couple to believe it might not be as crazy as it sounds.

0:06:29 > 0:06:32He seems to enjoy the outdoors, that's all he ever seems to want to do.

0:06:32 > 0:06:35We understand a lot about his condition now and what

0:06:35 > 0:06:38precautions are necessary to protect him from the warm weather.

0:06:38 > 0:06:40Keep going straight. Keep going.

0:06:40 > 0:06:42Having discussed the move with him,

0:06:42 > 0:06:45Riley's more interested in the wildlife than weather.

0:06:45 > 0:06:47I'd like to see the lovely spiders.

0:06:47 > 0:06:51While Connor sees the move as a way to fulfil his dreams, too.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54I've always wanted to go to Australia to work in

0:06:54 > 0:06:55the zoo over there.

0:06:55 > 0:06:59Australia could be the fresh start the family need but Zoe fears

0:06:59 > 0:07:03leaving those who have supported them through so much.

0:07:03 > 0:07:05I'm quite close to my mum

0:07:05 > 0:07:09and I know that the children are really close to her.

0:07:09 > 0:07:12Taking them away from her would be hard.

0:07:12 > 0:07:14Having dreamt of the move for over ten years,

0:07:14 > 0:07:18Gareth's determined to give his family a happier future.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21You know, there's been that many events that's happened in our life

0:07:21 > 0:07:24since we met, it's just a fresh start.

0:07:24 > 0:07:28After a decade of discussion, the family are about to discover

0:07:28 > 0:07:31if moving to a country they've never visited can give them

0:07:31 > 0:07:34a new beginning and let them put the past behind them for good.

0:07:34 > 0:07:36I want to settle down now.

0:07:36 > 0:07:39I want to be wherever we are

0:07:39 > 0:07:42and hopefully spend the rest of our lives there together,

0:07:42 > 0:07:47whether that's in Australia, or the UK, we need to come to that decision now.

0:07:53 > 0:07:57To find out if Australia can give the Lloyds their dream life,

0:07:57 > 0:08:00the family are visiting Adelaide, ranked as one of the world's

0:08:00 > 0:08:02top 10 cities to live.

0:08:02 > 0:08:05Their temporary base for the week is in Clovelly Park,

0:08:05 > 0:08:09the southern suburb, 25 minutes' drive from the city centre.

0:08:09 > 0:08:10Tired from the long journey,

0:08:10 > 0:08:13first impressions of the house leave Gareth confused.

0:08:13 > 0:08:18- Two garages, eh?- No, that's a different house. It's just that.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21- Oh, is it two separate houses?- Yeah.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23Hopefully one house is big enough.

0:08:23 > 0:08:27- It looks small.- It does look small, doesn't it?- It's quite nice.

0:08:27 > 0:08:30Connor's happy but Mum and Dad need to see inside.

0:08:30 > 0:08:32- Oh...- That's nice.

0:08:32 > 0:08:35- Do you like it?- Oh, it is, isn't it?

0:08:35 > 0:08:37Fortunately, the house is bigger than expected.

0:08:37 > 0:08:41It's deceiving from the outside, isn't it? It is deceiving.

0:08:41 > 0:08:43It's a lot bigger than it looks, isn't it?

0:08:43 > 0:08:45- These high ceilings are all right. - Wow!

0:08:45 > 0:08:48- I do not know where you're going to put your stuff!- That's mine!

0:08:48 > 0:08:51Don't know where you're going to put yours!

0:08:51 > 0:08:54Moving on, the open plan interiors win approval.

0:08:54 > 0:08:57Look at this. Open plan.

0:08:57 > 0:08:59Wow! I wasn't expecting that.

0:08:59 > 0:09:02And the enthusiasm continues outside.

0:09:02 > 0:09:05Imagine yourself sat out here watching the kids play.

0:09:05 > 0:09:09Barbecue on there. Do you reckon you can fit a small pool in that corner?

0:09:09 > 0:09:11I don't think so!

0:09:11 > 0:09:15It's an encouraging start and after the long trip,

0:09:15 > 0:09:17Connor and Riley are happy to make themselves at home.

0:09:17 > 0:09:20We've got a bedroom each, which is good,

0:09:20 > 0:09:22so I don't have to share with Riley.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25It's just so massive.

0:09:25 > 0:09:27Mum and Dad are quick to settle in, too.

0:09:27 > 0:09:30From what I've seen so far, I'm really impressed.

0:09:30 > 0:09:33It doesn't feel like we're over the other side of the world.

0:09:33 > 0:09:37It sort of feels like home in a kind of strange way.

0:09:37 > 0:09:41But Zoe's already spotted something that feels very unfamiliar.

0:09:41 > 0:09:46It's really hot and with Riley that is a big concern.

0:09:46 > 0:09:48Even though we expected it to be hot,

0:09:48 > 0:09:51maybe we didn't expect it to be this hot.

0:09:51 > 0:09:55The week ahead will let the family see how Riley copes with

0:09:55 > 0:09:59the Australian climate and Gareth knows his dream's at stake

0:09:59 > 0:10:02if the country doesn't meet expectations.

0:10:02 > 0:10:07Australia needs to show me a good quality of work life

0:10:07 > 0:10:11and also how the children fit in with the life and the weather.

0:10:11 > 0:10:14This week needs to be the decider.

0:10:14 > 0:10:18It's either, yes, we're going to go,

0:10:18 > 0:10:21or we go home and that's it.

0:10:21 > 0:10:26We can't sort of carry on the way we've been with ifs and buts,

0:10:26 > 0:10:28this has got to be it now.

0:10:34 > 0:10:38Back in the UK, Gareth and Zoe have moved frequently

0:10:38 > 0:10:41since they met and currently rent a three-bedroomed detached

0:10:41 > 0:10:43house in Ashton-in-Makerfield.

0:10:43 > 0:10:47This is our 12th house since we've been together.

0:10:47 > 0:10:49Erm, I like to move.

0:10:49 > 0:10:53That is a lot of homes. So what's on their wish list for an Australian house?

0:10:53 > 0:10:58My dream property would be a four-bedroomed detached with a pool,

0:10:58 > 0:11:03a cinema room and all open plan within walking distance to a beach.

0:11:03 > 0:11:06- Don't forget a garage, as well. - A garage for the car.

0:11:06 > 0:11:09Quite a list, but after everything they've been through, the most

0:11:09 > 0:11:13important thing is to find somewhere the family can finally put down roots.

0:11:13 > 0:11:17We're getting to the point where I want to be settled wherever we're going to go now.

0:11:17 > 0:11:20- I think the next move is going to have to be the...- The final.

0:11:23 > 0:11:27Gareth and Zoe have £1,200 a month to rent a home down under.

0:11:27 > 0:11:29To find out what their money could get them,

0:11:29 > 0:11:32we'll show them three properties, two on budget

0:11:32 > 0:11:34and a third which could be their dream home.

0:11:34 > 0:11:39Only after they've seen each one, will they find out the monthly rent.

0:11:39 > 0:11:41House-hunting starts in Flinders Park,

0:11:41 > 0:11:44a well-established suburb, west of the city centre.

0:11:44 > 0:11:48Five minutes from the beach and with school, shops and facilities,

0:11:48 > 0:11:51the area could suit the family but will the house be what

0:11:51 > 0:11:53they're looking for?

0:11:53 > 0:11:56- Wow! Look.- Oh, my gosh.

0:11:56 > 0:11:59They're not out of the car yet but the signs are good.

0:11:59 > 0:12:01Will inside go down as well?

0:12:03 > 0:12:06- That's nice and bright, isn't it? RILEY:- This is nice.

0:12:06 > 0:12:09Riley's impressed and although it's unfurnished, Gareth spots potential.

0:12:09 > 0:12:13It's like a blank canvas, isn't it? You can pretty much do what you want with it, really.

0:12:13 > 0:12:16The spacious kitchen and living area score more points.

0:12:16 > 0:12:18What a great room.

0:12:18 > 0:12:21- I'm really impressed with the style so far.- I am, as well, actually.

0:12:21 > 0:12:22I do really like it.

0:12:22 > 0:12:25But, unfortunately, the garden doesn't blow them away.

0:12:25 > 0:12:28It is a little small out here, but it's cosy.

0:12:28 > 0:12:30I would like a little bit bigger garden.

0:12:30 > 0:12:34The house does have the four bedrooms Zoe wants, though.

0:12:34 > 0:12:35This is a good-sized room, isn't it?

0:12:35 > 0:12:38I like the window being high, not too bright in here, is it?

0:12:38 > 0:12:41Plenty of shade could be perfect for Riley

0:12:41 > 0:12:43and a room for everyone keeps Connor happy, too.

0:12:43 > 0:12:47I need a plasma on the wall, though. 50-inch, at least.

0:12:47 > 0:12:50The family bathroom's a big hit with everyone.

0:12:50 > 0:12:52- I like this.- Wow, yeah.

0:12:52 > 0:12:55- Look at that.- Very modern.- Yeah. - I like modern.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58The up-to-date interiors also win approval but there is

0:12:58 > 0:13:03so much space inside, they're unsure what to do with it all.

0:13:03 > 0:13:05Is this your second living area bit?

0:13:05 > 0:13:07It's not a bedroom, is it?

0:13:07 > 0:13:09Maybe a playroom or like a second dining room.

0:13:09 > 0:13:12Zoe's keen to explore the view.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14- Wow, look at this, Gaz.- Look at that.

0:13:14 > 0:13:18- What more could you ask for?- Mum, there's a playground behind there.

0:13:18 > 0:13:20We've never had a balcony before, have we?

0:13:20 > 0:13:23- No, not with a view like that, anyway.- No.

0:13:23 > 0:13:26Despite a small garden, the house offers what the family want

0:13:26 > 0:13:30but with £1,200 to spend every month, will it be within budget?

0:13:30 > 0:13:33I'm not too sure. Maybe about £1,100 a month.

0:13:33 > 0:13:37I think about £1,000 a month.

0:13:37 > 0:13:40I think it's worth about £950 a month.

0:13:40 > 0:13:45- What do you think, Riley? - I think £20,050 a month.- OK.

0:13:51 > 0:13:53- Oh...- It's bang on budget, isn't it?

0:13:53 > 0:13:57But if this is our budget, what are the other houses going to be like?

0:13:57 > 0:14:01I thought it was going to be less than that, to be honest, but...

0:14:01 > 0:14:04Then you've got the view and you've got the size.

0:14:04 > 0:14:07I could cope with the not-so-big garden.

0:14:07 > 0:14:11Achievable but not perfect, the family aren't sold yet.

0:14:11 > 0:14:15Will the next house offer everything and be affordable?

0:14:15 > 0:14:18The search continues in the suburb affectionately referred

0:14:18 > 0:14:20to as Little Britain.

0:14:20 > 0:14:22Close to schools and the beach,

0:14:22 > 0:14:24Hallett Cove is popular with British expats.

0:14:24 > 0:14:27The area should be a perfect fit for Zoe and Gareth

0:14:27 > 0:14:32but will the house have the outside space Zoe dreams of?

0:14:32 > 0:14:33Wow!

0:14:33 > 0:14:37- That looks absolutely massive. - It does, doesn't it?

0:14:37 > 0:14:38It's huge, isn't it?

0:14:38 > 0:14:40It's roomy inside, too.

0:14:40 > 0:14:44- Wow! This is lovely. - It's brilliant.

0:14:44 > 0:14:46- This is amazing, isn't it? - It's really nice.

0:14:46 > 0:14:49This is my dream house.

0:14:49 > 0:14:51A look in the master bedroom pleases Gareth.

0:14:51 > 0:14:54- I'm really taken aback by this, are you?- I love it.

0:14:54 > 0:14:56- I've only seen two rooms.- I know.

0:14:56 > 0:15:00And like the previous house, the balcony comes with a view.

0:15:00 > 0:15:02Look at that.

0:15:02 > 0:15:04This would make me move.

0:15:04 > 0:15:08- This would clinch it for you, would it?- I wanted a house by the beach

0:15:08 > 0:15:11and you can't get much closer to the beach, can you?

0:15:11 > 0:15:14Back downstairs, the kitchen and modern living area

0:15:14 > 0:15:16chalk up more points.

0:15:16 > 0:15:18- Wow!- That's nice.

0:15:18 > 0:15:22I like this. In fact, I love this. I love this house.

0:15:22 > 0:15:24Outside impresses too.

0:15:24 > 0:15:26Look at this.

0:15:26 > 0:15:30- This is lovely. Wow!- Yeah. Absolutely stunning.- Wow.

0:15:30 > 0:15:32- It's massive!- Isn't it?

0:15:32 > 0:15:35But Gareth has concerns.

0:15:35 > 0:15:38I'm being realistic because I think this is going to be

0:15:38 > 0:15:40- way beyond our budget.- Yeah.

0:15:40 > 0:15:42What a gorgeous, gorgeous house.

0:15:42 > 0:15:45And the best is still to come.

0:15:45 > 0:15:47Look at this pool.

0:15:47 > 0:15:50Just imagine jumping in that and having a nice morning swim.

0:15:50 > 0:15:54Sounds perfect, Zoe, and Connor can imagine living here, too.

0:15:54 > 0:15:57Yeah, definitely. I think we should move over here now.

0:15:57 > 0:16:00The garden also has a shaded area, perfect for Riley.

0:16:00 > 0:16:03This is like a millionaire's house.

0:16:03 > 0:16:06It could be the perfect home for the family

0:16:06 > 0:16:11but with £1,200 to spend on rent every month, could they afford it?

0:16:11 > 0:16:14I think this is quite a bit above our budget

0:16:14 > 0:16:18and if I was to guess, I would say around £1,500 a month.

0:16:18 > 0:16:21- Would you?- Yeah. - See, I think it's more.

0:16:21 > 0:16:222,000.

0:16:22 > 0:16:27I think it's probably about 2,500 a month, maybe more.

0:16:30 > 0:16:32Go on, then, Connor, let's have a look.

0:16:35 > 0:16:38That is a shock, isn't it?

0:16:38 > 0:16:40Right, we're moving.

0:16:40 > 0:16:42Wow!

0:16:42 > 0:16:46- I'm really, really, really shocked. - I'm quite surprised.

0:16:46 > 0:16:49House-hunting for the Lloyds is proving successful

0:16:49 > 0:16:50and it's not over yet.

0:16:50 > 0:16:52Staying in Hallett Cove,

0:16:52 > 0:16:56we found what should be the family's ultimate home, a two-storey property

0:16:56 > 0:16:59promising luxury living within walking distance of the beach.

0:17:01 > 0:17:03- Oh, look at this.- Wow!

0:17:03 > 0:17:07No way! That is like a palace.

0:17:07 > 0:17:10It certainly has kerb appeal and inside's not bad, either.

0:17:10 > 0:17:12Look at that.

0:17:12 > 0:17:15The master bedroom comes with a luxury en suite.

0:17:15 > 0:17:18I wouldn't mind waking up in a morning to that, would you?

0:17:20 > 0:17:24- I think this is Mummy and Daddy's room, Riley.- Not a chance!

0:17:25 > 0:17:30With five bedrooms, there's a room for everyone and one for guests

0:17:30 > 0:17:33and the spacious interiors are cause for more delight.

0:17:33 > 0:17:35I can certainly see myself relaxing here.

0:17:35 > 0:17:38I can't get over how big they are. They're massive.

0:17:38 > 0:17:40- It's a huge, huge property, isn't it?- Yeah.

0:17:40 > 0:17:43This house certainly has the "wow" factor.

0:17:46 > 0:17:50I mean the first one was nice, the second one moved it up a level

0:17:50 > 0:17:52but this has gone that notch more, hasn't it?

0:17:52 > 0:17:56Just like the last one, this house has plenty of outside space,

0:17:56 > 0:17:59not to mention a pool with a Jacuzzi.

0:17:59 > 0:18:01- Gaz, look.- Wow!

0:18:01 > 0:18:05- Do you like this one, then, Riley? - Oh, yeah, it is well better.

0:18:05 > 0:18:07- Is this better than the second?- Yes.

0:18:07 > 0:18:10And just when they think things can't get any better,

0:18:10 > 0:18:14on the second floor is something which surpasses everyone's expectations.

0:18:14 > 0:18:17- Wow! - That's impressive, a cinema room.

0:18:17 > 0:18:19Why would you want to watch the cinema

0:18:19 > 0:18:21when you've got a view like that out of the window?

0:18:21 > 0:18:25Fair point, but Connor's more enamoured with the technology.

0:18:25 > 0:18:28I don't need a 50-inch plasma any more.

0:18:28 > 0:18:31A nifty remote control cinema screen makes this every boy's dream.

0:18:31 > 0:18:33You're lost for words, aren't you?

0:18:33 > 0:18:36It was one of my desires, wasn't it, to have a cinema room?

0:18:36 > 0:18:37I can really picture myself here.

0:18:37 > 0:18:41I bet you can, Gareth! The adjoining balcony's also worth a look.

0:18:41 > 0:18:45They are take your breath away views, them, aren't they? This is a dream property, this.

0:18:45 > 0:18:49It's like a millionaire celebrity's property.

0:18:50 > 0:18:52Not one we could afford.

0:18:52 > 0:18:54This could be the perfect base for a new beginning

0:18:54 > 0:18:59but with £1,200 rent every month, will it, as Zoe fears,

0:18:59 > 0:19:01be reserved for the rich and famous?

0:19:01 > 0:19:07I was way out last time so I'd probably go with about 2,100.

0:19:07 > 0:19:09What do you think, Connor, how much?

0:19:09 > 0:19:12I think it's probably what I said on the last property,

0:19:12 > 0:19:14about 2,500, at least.

0:19:14 > 0:19:18I'd estimate around £1,900.

0:19:25 > 0:19:27Wow!

0:19:27 > 0:19:29It's a lot less than I thought.

0:19:29 > 0:19:311,540.

0:19:31 > 0:19:33It's a bit over budget but...

0:19:33 > 0:19:35I don't think it's that far....

0:19:35 > 0:19:39- It's within reach.- Potentially...

0:19:39 > 0:19:42The Lloyds' property search has proved positive, with each

0:19:42 > 0:19:44house better than the last.

0:19:44 > 0:19:47Property one was big inside, yet small outside,

0:19:47 > 0:19:51though the family were relieved to discover it was on budget.

0:19:51 > 0:19:54Property two had plenty of space and a pool

0:19:54 > 0:19:57and discovering it was affordable was a bonus.

0:19:57 > 0:20:01But property three took everyone's breath away with a cinema room

0:20:01 > 0:20:04and just a short stroll from the beach, it was everything they'd

0:20:04 > 0:20:08dreamed of and, only slightly over budget, was something to aspire to.

0:20:09 > 0:20:12So how will the day's excitement play out

0:20:12 > 0:20:16when it comes to choosing between a home in Australia or the UK?

0:20:16 > 0:20:20Based on the properties we have seen today, our vote goes to...

0:20:29 > 0:20:30ALL: ..Australia!

0:20:32 > 0:20:35I don't think you would get anything like the price in the UK,

0:20:35 > 0:20:38this type of house - four bedrooms, a pool.

0:20:38 > 0:20:41No. I think it went beyond our expectations today.

0:20:41 > 0:20:43Really impressed with what we have seen.

0:20:52 > 0:20:55'A full house of votes for Australia puts the Lloyds well on the road

0:20:55 > 0:20:58'to achieving the fresh start they have been dreaming of.

0:20:58 > 0:21:02'But with their hearts now set on luxury living by the beach,

0:21:02 > 0:21:04'will they be able to find the jobs to afford it?

0:21:06 > 0:21:09'In the UK, Gareth is a gas technical engineer,

0:21:09 > 0:21:11'servicing heating systems and boilers.'

0:21:11 > 0:21:15I've been in the industry since a school leaver and I thoroughly enjoy what I do.

0:21:15 > 0:21:19'Zoe works part-time as an assistant in a local pharmacy.'

0:21:19 > 0:21:22I have been in the job role for two years now.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25It's always noisy, it's never quiet here. Lots of customers.

0:21:25 > 0:21:29'If they moved, Zoe would be keen to return to her previous career.'

0:21:29 > 0:21:32I would be looking into going back into care work,

0:21:32 > 0:21:35which is what I have done for 10 years.

0:21:35 > 0:21:38Working with adults with learning and physical disabilities.

0:21:38 > 0:21:42'Gareth would like to stay in a similar role, but regularly working over 50 hours a week,

0:21:42 > 0:21:45'he's hoping for more time at home.'

0:21:45 > 0:21:48I'm hoping for the hours to not be as demanding.

0:21:48 > 0:21:51The work-life balance will be a lot better,

0:21:51 > 0:21:53ultimately resulting in me having more family time.

0:21:56 > 0:21:58'With the children cared for by a childminder,

0:21:58 > 0:22:02'Gareth and Zoe set off to investigate work prospects in Adelaide.

0:22:02 > 0:22:05'For Gareth, getting the right salary will be important.'

0:22:05 > 0:22:07I believe we're going to need to achieve something

0:22:07 > 0:22:10similar to the UK in order to make the move possible.

0:22:12 > 0:22:15At least in the region of 60,000 to 70,000 Australian dollars.

0:22:15 > 0:22:18'While he's hoping to earn around £35,000,

0:22:18 > 0:22:22'Zoe is more concerned about fitting in at a new workplace.'

0:22:22 > 0:22:25If I enjoyed the work here, obviously that would sway me

0:22:25 > 0:22:29a lot more to be happy to come out and live over here.

0:22:29 > 0:22:32'Gareth goes to meet Brendan Purton,

0:22:32 > 0:22:35'an expat now running his own gas services company.'

0:22:35 > 0:22:38- Hi. You must be Brendon.- Hi, mate. How're you?- I'm good.

0:22:38 > 0:22:40- Good to see you. - Good stuff. Right.

0:22:40 > 0:22:43'Brendan shows Gareth a heater he is working on.

0:22:43 > 0:22:46'It's familiar territory, but he points out moving

0:22:46 > 0:22:49'to Australia could mean a learning curve.'

0:22:49 > 0:22:54As regards to finding your feet out here and getting work, how difficult was that?

0:22:54 > 0:22:57It was OK. There's work out here.

0:22:57 > 0:23:00The qualifications would be the issue.

0:23:00 > 0:23:03Getting them sorted out first of all.

0:23:03 > 0:23:06'Gareth would need to undertake a skills recognition process

0:23:06 > 0:23:09'which could require around 18 months on-the-job training

0:23:09 > 0:23:13'before he could work as a fully qualified gas technician.

0:23:13 > 0:23:15'It's a set back for the dream.

0:23:15 > 0:23:17'Will things be more straightforward for Zoe?

0:23:17 > 0:23:20'She's meeting Lisa, a care worker at a residential

0:23:20 > 0:23:23'centre for people with intellectual disabilities.'

0:23:23 > 0:23:27- I'm Zoe.- Hi. I'm Lisa. I'll show you around.- Thank you.

0:23:27 > 0:23:29'After a quick cuppa with some residents,

0:23:29 > 0:23:32'Lisa and Zoe discuss the likelihood of her securing work.'

0:23:32 > 0:23:34Are my qualifications transferable?

0:23:34 > 0:23:39When you come to Australia you can have your qualification recognised by a skills recognition service

0:23:39 > 0:23:42and that gives you a certificate you can bring to an employer

0:23:42 > 0:23:45to show them you're qualified to work in Australia.

0:23:45 > 0:23:48'Fortunately, the transition for Zoe should be easier.'

0:23:48 > 0:23:50Are there currently any job vacancies?

0:23:50 > 0:23:52There is at such a large organisation.

0:23:52 > 0:23:55There are often a lot of prospects available.

0:23:55 > 0:23:58So someone with your qualifications would be a good candidate.

0:23:58 > 0:24:00That's good to hear.

0:24:00 > 0:24:02'That sounds encouraging.

0:24:02 > 0:24:05'Gareth's come to terms with the news getting his qualifications

0:24:05 > 0:24:07'approved could take a while.

0:24:07 > 0:24:10'But he is also keen to address how the job would

0:24:10 > 0:24:13'fit in with his hopes for more family time.'

0:24:13 > 0:24:16As regards to working hours, how does that compare with the UK?

0:24:16 > 0:24:20My typical working day in the summer would be an 8:30am start.

0:24:20 > 0:24:24Invariably, you'd be finished by three or four.

0:24:24 > 0:24:26I start at 7:30am or 8:00am in the winter

0:24:26 > 0:24:30and quite often you are not in before six.

0:24:30 > 0:24:34'While summer hours are short, the winter would still mean long days.

0:24:34 > 0:24:37'Would the money make that worth Gareth's while?'

0:24:37 > 0:24:40Until they sort out your qualifications,

0:24:40 > 0:24:43they might put you on an adult apprentice.

0:24:44 > 0:24:48- I think the award wage for that is about 36,000.- Yes.

0:24:48 > 0:24:51And then once you are qualified to work for somebody else,

0:24:51 > 0:24:53that goes up to 48.

0:24:53 > 0:24:58To begin with, Gareth would be earning just under £20,000.

0:24:58 > 0:25:00It's much less than he expected.

0:25:00 > 0:25:03But Brendan points out that if he's prepared to put in the hours,

0:25:03 > 0:25:06he could double his pay.

0:25:06 > 0:25:11If he decided to go self-employed, the figure could rise even further.

0:25:11 > 0:25:13If you're self-employed and you are doing 50/60 hours a week,

0:25:13 > 0:25:15I wouldn't be surprised if you would be hitting

0:25:15 > 0:25:19100 to 120,000 a year.

0:25:19 > 0:25:22It's definitely a wage you can live on comfortably.

0:25:22 > 0:25:24- Yeah, very comfortably. Sounds really good.- Yeah.

0:25:24 > 0:25:29£65,000 isn't bad at all but it would be a while before Gareth

0:25:29 > 0:25:33can earn top dollar and he'd still have to work around the clock.

0:25:33 > 0:25:36Back at the residential centre, Zoe's checking out

0:25:36 > 0:25:38if she could work part-time.

0:25:38 > 0:25:42Do you accommodate for family life, as well?

0:25:42 > 0:25:46We have casual, part-time and full-time employment, night employment.

0:25:46 > 0:25:48Again, it's good news for Zoe.

0:25:48 > 0:25:51All that remains is to talk about money.

0:25:51 > 0:25:56The part-time employee on 20 hours a week would get 23,000 a year.

0:25:56 > 0:25:58Wow!

0:25:58 > 0:26:01Wow! That's a lot more.

0:26:01 > 0:26:04It's almost double what Zoe currently gets.

0:26:04 > 0:26:08But when the couple reunite to discuss their news, the emphasis

0:26:08 > 0:26:11is on the initial hurdle Gareth will face gaining work down under.

0:26:11 > 0:26:14- You have to retrain? - To an extent, yeah,

0:26:14 > 0:26:18just whilst the qualifications are recognised over here

0:26:18 > 0:26:23and the salary I'd be earning then is around 36-38,000.

0:26:23 > 0:26:26- English?- No, Australian dollars. - Australian dollars?- Yeah...

0:26:26 > 0:26:29Then, if I was to be employed by a company,

0:26:29 > 0:26:32the earning potential is up to 75,000.

0:26:32 > 0:26:36There's plenty of money to be made, more so than the UK.

0:26:36 > 0:26:38Gareth's staying optimistic

0:26:38 > 0:26:41and news of Zoe's good day should help.

0:26:41 > 0:26:43So there is plenty of scope for employment?

0:26:43 > 0:26:47Yeah, yeah, plenty of opportunities, they said, for someone with my qualifications.

0:26:47 > 0:26:49Long-term prospects look reasonable

0:26:49 > 0:26:53but it would take time for Gareth to reach his full earning potential.

0:26:53 > 0:26:55With three children to care for,

0:26:55 > 0:26:59will the couple decide it's safer to stick with work in the UK?

0:26:59 > 0:27:01Based upon the employment opportunities

0:27:01 > 0:27:03we've seen today, we are going to vote...

0:27:11 > 0:27:13BOTH: ..Australia!

0:27:13 > 0:27:16I thought you would have gone the UK only because of the earnings when

0:27:16 > 0:27:21you first come over would be slightly less than what you're getting now?

0:27:21 > 0:27:24I was a bit sceptical but the earning potential,

0:27:24 > 0:27:28after jumping some hurdles, is a lot higher than I anticipated.

0:27:28 > 0:27:29Erm...

0:27:29 > 0:27:33- There was plenty of work. - I really enjoyed today.

0:27:33 > 0:27:36They all seemed really, really friendly.

0:27:39 > 0:27:44With a full sweep of votes for Australia so far, it looks like the

0:27:44 > 0:27:48Lloyds could be well on their way to making the country their future home.

0:27:48 > 0:27:51A move for the family has always been about making a fresh

0:27:51 > 0:27:54start in life, so will time spent sampling

0:27:54 > 0:27:58a slice of the Australian lifestyle prove another winner?

0:28:00 > 0:28:03Wildlife lovers the Lloyds embrace the chance to visit Monarto Zoo.

0:28:03 > 0:28:05An hour's drive from Adelaide,

0:28:05 > 0:28:08it's a leading protector of endangered species.

0:28:09 > 0:28:12It's the perfect chance to encounter some native animals

0:28:12 > 0:28:17and Riley's delighted to meet Maureen, a friendly rock wallaby.

0:28:17 > 0:28:22- Do you think we should take her home? - Yes.- Yeah.- I think we should.

0:28:22 > 0:28:24- I don't think they'd let us take her home.- Why?

0:28:24 > 0:28:27She's not like a pet. She's a wild animal.

0:28:27 > 0:28:28I'm going to miss her.

0:28:30 > 0:28:33Hopes dashed, the whole family are distracted by a black rhinoceros.

0:28:33 > 0:28:36You've been pretty lucky because he hasn't sprayed you all.

0:28:36 > 0:28:38Sometimes he backs around.

0:28:38 > 0:28:40What does he spray us with?

0:28:40 > 0:28:44Have a guess. He sprays you with, er, wee-wee.

0:28:44 > 0:28:48Charming! Time to move along.

0:28:48 > 0:28:50The carrots are behind you.

0:28:50 > 0:28:54Ever so gently, go and get a handful of carrots.

0:28:54 > 0:28:56Given Connor's dream of working in a zoo,

0:28:56 > 0:28:59feeding the animals has proved a hit.

0:28:59 > 0:29:01You couldn't ever do this in the UK.

0:29:01 > 0:29:06My friends would be definitely jealous of me feeding the giraffes.

0:29:06 > 0:29:09Gareth's delighted with how the week's going so far.

0:29:09 > 0:29:11I'm just really taken aback with the country.

0:29:11 > 0:29:14You know, the people, the lifestyle, the weather, everything

0:29:14 > 0:29:17is what I dreamt it would be and more.

0:29:17 > 0:29:20And Zoe's had time to consider the benefits of starting again

0:29:20 > 0:29:22half a world away from home.

0:29:22 > 0:29:25I think we'd have a lot more days like today.

0:29:25 > 0:29:28Obviously, you've got the reality of working, as well,

0:29:28 > 0:29:32but because of the weather you do have the opportunities to go

0:29:32 > 0:29:36out to places like this, as a family, and spend quality time together.

0:29:36 > 0:29:39For Riley, the advantages are simple.

0:29:39 > 0:29:42I'd like to live in Australia because it's better than the UK.

0:29:42 > 0:29:45You don't get a swimming pool in the back garden.

0:29:45 > 0:29:49The day's also shown how well he's dealt with the climate.

0:29:49 > 0:29:52You know, he's been fine, he's coped really well with the light,

0:29:52 > 0:29:55the daylight and that was one of my fears.

0:29:55 > 0:29:59But despite the positives, Zoe admits the distance from home

0:29:59 > 0:30:00is playing on her mind.

0:30:00 > 0:30:05I keep changing my mind. I want to come and I don't.

0:30:05 > 0:30:07Then I think of family back home.

0:30:07 > 0:30:09Gareth knows his wife has reservations.

0:30:09 > 0:30:13As the week's gone on, I think the reality set in that,

0:30:13 > 0:30:16you know, we're the opposite side of the world and there are friends

0:30:16 > 0:30:20and family back home that, I believe, she'd miss greatly.

0:30:20 > 0:30:23The couple face a big decision come the end of the week

0:30:23 > 0:30:26but has their day out done enough to convince

0:30:26 > 0:30:29everyone of the merits of Australia's lifestyle?

0:30:29 > 0:30:32Based upon the lifestyle activities we've undergone today,

0:30:32 > 0:30:34our vote goes to...

0:30:43 > 0:30:45ALL: ..Australia!

0:30:45 > 0:30:48Yeah, the experience with the giraffes was just mesmerising.

0:30:48 > 0:30:52I was really impressed with that. I really enjoyed myself today.

0:30:52 > 0:30:54What is your best bit about today?

0:30:54 > 0:30:57The best bit is the wallaby jumping around.

0:30:57 > 0:31:00I'm made up, everyone's voted Australia.

0:31:00 > 0:31:04I'm not surprised, we have had a really good time today.

0:31:13 > 0:31:16Four more votes for Australia makes the fresh start the family

0:31:16 > 0:31:19dream of much more likely but before committing to anything,

0:31:19 > 0:31:22Gareth and Zoe are keen to uncover the truth about living with

0:31:22 > 0:31:24Riley's condition in Australia.

0:31:24 > 0:31:26They meet Elizabeth Beales,

0:31:26 > 0:31:30president of the Australian Albinism Association, and her husband.

0:31:30 > 0:31:34I've lived here all my life, so I don't know anything different

0:31:34 > 0:31:39but you get to the fourth day of over 40 degrees in summer

0:31:39 > 0:31:42and we're talking about emigrating

0:31:42 > 0:31:45away from Australia because it's so hot!

0:31:45 > 0:31:49In summer, Adelaide is one of the hottest places on earth

0:31:49 > 0:31:51but Gareth still holds out hope.

0:31:51 > 0:31:54From what I've seen, there seems to be a lot of shaded areas in the parks

0:31:54 > 0:31:58and public areas and, I believe, the Australian expression

0:31:58 > 0:32:02- is slip, slap, slop? - Yes.- It is.

0:32:02 > 0:32:06People are becoming more mindful, and aware, of the hat and the sunglasses and the long sleeves

0:32:06 > 0:32:09and all that sort of stuff but you've still got a child

0:32:09 > 0:32:12who's growing up with peer pressure, with his mates,

0:32:12 > 0:32:14who just want to wear boardies.

0:32:14 > 0:32:16You say it is quite difficult growing up?

0:32:16 > 0:32:19Kids are kids and anybody who is different in any way

0:32:19 > 0:32:22is going to find that sort of thing.

0:32:22 > 0:32:25What advice would you give to us bringing a child

0:32:25 > 0:32:29with that condition, potentially, into this climate?

0:32:29 > 0:32:31To be entirely honest, I would say just...

0:32:32 > 0:32:34Don't do it.

0:32:34 > 0:32:37I actually wouldn't say, "Don't do it".

0:32:37 > 0:32:40There are thousands of parents who have a child

0:32:40 > 0:32:44in Australia with this condition and, I think, if it suits the whole family,

0:32:44 > 0:32:46he will adjust, he will adjust.

0:32:46 > 0:32:50Elizabeth's positive outlook could have laid to rest any fears

0:32:50 > 0:32:53the couple had about Riley adapting to Australia.

0:32:53 > 0:32:55You have given us a lot to go on now, yeah.

0:32:55 > 0:32:58It's food for thought, isn't it? Thank you very much.

0:32:58 > 0:33:01You are very welcome, it's been wonderful to meet you

0:33:01 > 0:33:03and to talk to you about Riley.

0:33:03 > 0:33:05Thank you.

0:33:10 > 0:33:13It's been a positive week

0:33:13 > 0:33:16but with Gareth's initial salary likely to be lower than he'd hoped,

0:33:16 > 0:33:18the family now need to find out

0:33:18 > 0:33:21if they could afford the fresh start they dream of.

0:33:21 > 0:33:24While the children play outside, the couple sit down to see how

0:33:24 > 0:33:28their living expenses in Australia would compare with the UK.

0:33:28 > 0:33:31To help, we've provided them with a cost of living comparison.

0:33:31 > 0:33:34First up is the weekly food shop.

0:33:34 > 0:33:37- Chicken's cheaper. - Mince is cheaper, as well.

0:33:37 > 0:33:39Sausages are a bit dearer.

0:33:39 > 0:33:42Yoghurts - nearly £5 dearer.

0:33:42 > 0:33:46- Baby jars - £6.50 dearer.- Wow!

0:33:46 > 0:33:49Food's generally more expensive down under.

0:33:49 > 0:33:51So what's the damage overall?

0:33:51 > 0:33:52That's...

0:33:52 > 0:33:57£106.64.

0:33:57 > 0:34:00It's more than they spend at home.

0:34:00 > 0:34:03So we're minus £17.29 per week.

0:34:03 > 0:34:06- Nearly £80 a month, isn't it?- Mmm.

0:34:06 > 0:34:10Already they're out of pocket and that's before the bigger bills.

0:34:10 > 0:34:12Cable's cheaper.

0:34:12 > 0:34:16Childcare's dearer, £184.

0:34:16 > 0:34:21- That is a big figure that, isn't it? Wow!- Yeah.

0:34:21 > 0:34:23Home insurance is dearer.

0:34:23 > 0:34:26And rent in Australia still needs to be factored in.

0:34:26 > 0:34:29Which property are we going to base it on, then?

0:34:29 > 0:34:30- Do you think?- Erm...

0:34:32 > 0:34:36- I think two.- Yeah, I thought you might go that way.

0:34:36 > 0:34:40- Because it was by the beach. - Let's base it on property two.- OK.

0:34:40 > 0:34:43Basing sums on the second house means nearly

0:34:43 > 0:34:45doubling their current rent.

0:34:45 > 0:34:49Will their monthly spend see the couple's hopes unravel?

0:34:49 > 0:34:51So we are...

0:34:51 > 0:34:55£682.54 per month...

0:34:55 > 0:34:57- Worse off.- ..worse off.

0:34:57 > 0:35:01Everything rests on whether their salaries will make up the shortfall.

0:35:01 > 0:35:04But when they work it out, Gareth and Zoe discover

0:35:04 > 0:35:06they'd be £100 short every month,

0:35:06 > 0:35:11compared to the UK, where they've around £1,400 left over.

0:35:11 > 0:35:15In total, a move to Australia would make them...

0:35:15 > 0:35:171,531...

0:35:17 > 0:35:19Worse off per month.

0:35:19 > 0:35:23It's a disastrous result as the couple realised the move

0:35:23 > 0:35:29could see them out-of-pocket by an eye-watering £18,000 a year.

0:35:29 > 0:35:33I thought we would be a little bit worse but nowhere near,

0:35:33 > 0:35:35nowhere near that figure.

0:35:35 > 0:35:41There's no way of even moving because I wouldn't work full-time.

0:35:41 > 0:35:43I wouldn't come out here to work full-time.

0:35:43 > 0:35:47I'm really gutted about these figures, me.

0:35:47 > 0:35:51It's like it's all been snatched away, hasn't it?

0:35:51 > 0:35:55I'm quite upset, actually. I didn't think I would be.

0:35:55 > 0:35:59It's a devastating end to the day. As they choose between finances at home

0:35:59 > 0:36:03or down under, the outcome looks inevitable.

0:36:03 > 0:36:08Based upon the cost of living in Australia, our vote goes to...

0:36:14 > 0:36:15- ..UK.- UK.

0:36:15 > 0:36:17It has to, really, doesn't it?

0:36:17 > 0:36:21- Well, yeah, couldn't vote anything else really with them figures?- No.

0:36:21 > 0:36:25A major blow in the potential move.

0:36:25 > 0:36:30- Yeah, you can't argue with figures, I suppose.- No.

0:36:36 > 0:36:38It could offer so much,

0:36:38 > 0:36:42but realising the Australian dream could lead to financial nightmares,

0:36:42 > 0:36:45has brought Gareth and Zoe crashing back to earth.

0:36:45 > 0:36:46And the week's not over yet.

0:36:46 > 0:36:50The Lloyds sit down to watch messages from the friends

0:36:50 > 0:36:53and family who have supported them through hard times.

0:36:53 > 0:36:56Will the emotional cost of moving around the world mean

0:36:56 > 0:36:59a move's off the cards for good?

0:36:59 > 0:37:02- Hi, guys. I hope everything's gone well.- Hi, Zoe, hi, Gareth.

0:37:02 > 0:37:05Hope you've had a good time. Hope the kids have enjoyed it.

0:37:05 > 0:37:07Hi, Zoe, hi, Gareth, hi, boys.

0:37:07 > 0:37:09Hope you're having a lovely time in Australia.

0:37:09 > 0:37:11They've been through thick and thin together,

0:37:11 > 0:37:12they're stronger than stone, them two.

0:37:12 > 0:37:14Zoe's a wonderful mother to the kids.

0:37:14 > 0:37:17Them boys couldn't ask for a better mother and I think Gaz,

0:37:17 > 0:37:19to be fair, couldn't ask for a better wife.

0:37:19 > 0:37:23Gareth is a very hard-working person, he is a great father to the children.

0:37:23 > 0:37:25And he's a wonderful husband to Zoe.

0:37:25 > 0:37:29Connor's a good lad, me and Gaz took him to his first football match.

0:37:29 > 0:37:31Riley's a lovely, sweet little boy.

0:37:31 > 0:37:34I love him to pieces, he's my godson, Riley.

0:37:34 > 0:37:37And little Mason, he's a lovely little boy,

0:37:37 > 0:37:38he's getting bigger every day.

0:37:38 > 0:37:43Gareth has always said he would like to move to Australia.

0:37:43 > 0:37:45Just for the lifestyle, you know, for his kids.

0:37:45 > 0:37:47It's going to be hard

0:37:47 > 0:37:50because my brother's always sort of been my idol, like.

0:37:50 > 0:37:52You could say hero, I suppose, if you want,

0:37:52 > 0:37:55but I definitely wouldn't say that to his face!

0:37:55 > 0:37:57I've known Zoe all my life

0:37:57 > 0:38:02and if she moved to Australia, I would be very upset.

0:38:02 > 0:38:04Because I would never...

0:38:04 > 0:38:06see her again.

0:38:11 > 0:38:12We are such a close-knit family.

0:38:14 > 0:38:16But I understand why they want to do it.

0:38:18 > 0:38:20It's entirely up to you now.

0:38:20 > 0:38:23Think about it properly and we're all behind you.

0:38:23 > 0:38:26I hope that you've checked all the things out that you wanted to

0:38:26 > 0:38:29and that the decision is made for the right reason.

0:38:31 > 0:38:32- Are you all right?- No.

0:38:32 > 0:38:35That was really hard. It was Mel.

0:38:35 > 0:38:39- Yeah.- Because I know she wouldn't be able to come over.

0:38:40 > 0:38:43- It's quite a big distance, isn't it, from back home?- Yeah.

0:38:45 > 0:38:49And you only actually realise when you see something like that.

0:38:50 > 0:38:53- I'd miss everyone.- Would you?

0:38:57 > 0:39:01After the disappointing financial cost of a move became clear,

0:39:01 > 0:39:04hearing from loved ones at home has shown the Lloyds any move

0:39:04 > 0:39:07could be draining emotionally, too.

0:39:07 > 0:39:11As their final decision approaches, will the reality of everything

0:39:11 > 0:39:15they stand to lose see Gareth and Zoe abandon their dream of a fresh

0:39:15 > 0:39:17start down under for their family?

0:39:23 > 0:39:26When they arrived in Australia for the first time,

0:39:26 > 0:39:29Gareth had high hopes for what the country could offer.

0:39:29 > 0:39:32And on the whole, his expectations have been met.

0:39:32 > 0:39:35I'm really taken back with everything I've experienced.

0:39:35 > 0:39:39I've just grown even fonder of the country by the day,

0:39:39 > 0:39:42- to be honest with you. - Zoe has been impressed, too.

0:39:42 > 0:39:43I fully enjoyed this week.

0:39:43 > 0:39:46I didn't think I'd enjoy it as much as I have done.

0:39:46 > 0:39:49And the country's captured Connor's heart.

0:39:49 > 0:39:52If we ended up staying in the UK, I'd be gutted.

0:39:52 > 0:39:55Because we've come out here and I've really liked it myself.

0:39:55 > 0:39:58Despite concerns about taking a child with albinism

0:39:58 > 0:40:02to a country famed for sunshine, Riley has coped well.

0:40:02 > 0:40:06Back home, it's not normally, like, sunny every day,

0:40:06 > 0:40:10sometimes every day it gets a bit rainy.

0:40:10 > 0:40:13I like it when it's very, very hot.

0:40:13 > 0:40:17But for Gareth, the week delivered some unwelcome facts, too.

0:40:17 > 0:40:20The reality of work isn't as straightforward as I was,

0:40:20 > 0:40:24although there is potential to earn more money out here, there is

0:40:24 > 0:40:26a lot of hurdles on the way.

0:40:26 > 0:40:29And messages from home have left Zoe contemplating living

0:40:29 > 0:40:31so far from loved ones.

0:40:31 > 0:40:34I don't want to think about saying bye to them.

0:40:34 > 0:40:37The thought of leaving her cousin Mel is particularly upsetting.

0:40:37 > 0:40:40I think I'd be all right apart from Mel.

0:40:43 > 0:40:46And obviously my mum.

0:40:46 > 0:40:50Yeah. But I knew my mum could come and visit.

0:40:51 > 0:40:52Sorry.

0:40:58 > 0:41:02Yeah. Whereas I know I'd have to go there to see Mel.

0:41:02 > 0:41:06Yet at the same time, Zoe can see what Australia could offer.

0:41:06 > 0:41:09We've been through quite a lot at such a young age

0:41:09 > 0:41:14but I think the move to Australia is sort of a new life, a fresh start.

0:41:14 > 0:41:17With the family's future happiness at stake,

0:41:17 > 0:41:20their upcoming decision has Gareth and Zoe torn.

0:41:20 > 0:41:25My family's happiness is paramount and, yeah, I'm...

0:41:25 > 0:41:30I'm unsure whether it is going to be as easy as I first thought.

0:41:30 > 0:41:32You've got a lot to consider

0:41:32 > 0:41:36and it's a bigger decision than what I thought originally, yeah.

0:41:36 > 0:41:39Gareth and Zoe have conquered challenge after challenge to

0:41:39 > 0:41:40reach where they are today.

0:41:40 > 0:41:43Now they face what could be their biggest one yet.

0:41:43 > 0:41:46Deciding whether Australia really can give them

0:41:46 > 0:41:48the new beginning they deserve.

0:41:48 > 0:41:51We've really enjoyed our time this week in Australia

0:41:51 > 0:41:55and after everything we've seen and experienced, our vote goes to...

0:42:04 > 0:42:07- ..Australia! - ZOE: Undecided!

0:42:10 > 0:42:11Wow.

0:42:11 > 0:42:14I've had an amazing week and really enjoyed it

0:42:14 > 0:42:18- but I think the finances worried me a little bit.- I understand that.

0:42:19 > 0:42:21I'm looking at the bigger picture.

0:42:21 > 0:42:24Although there may be a few hurdles to overcome,

0:42:24 > 0:42:27I believe in the long run that the salary is there to be earned.

0:42:27 > 0:42:30- It's just a matter of time. - It is an amazing country.

0:42:30 > 0:42:33Or we could just leave you in the UK and we'd move.

0:42:33 > 0:42:36- That's not very nice, is it, Dad?- No.

0:42:36 > 0:42:37SHE LAUGHS

0:42:44 > 0:42:48It's been an emotional roller coaster of a week for the Lloyds.

0:42:48 > 0:42:52Although Australia would deliver some benefits for the family,

0:42:52 > 0:42:57it could also see them face financial woes and potential heartache.

0:42:57 > 0:43:00While the positives outweigh the negatives for Gareth

0:43:00 > 0:43:03and the boys, it looks like Zoe will need more persuading

0:43:03 > 0:43:07if the family are ever to go ahead and make the move.

0:43:07 > 0:43:10Wherever they decide to call home in the future,

0:43:10 > 0:43:15we wish Gareth, Zoe, Connor, Riley and Mason all the luck in the world.
