0:00:02 > 0:00:07'Some of Swansea's most desperate homes are about to be transformed.'

0:00:07 > 0:00:11- Any chance of cracking on, next door?- Yes. - And doing it without chatting?

0:00:11 > 0:00:14'Plasterer Jamie Denyer is a man on a mission.'

0:00:15 > 0:00:19Whenever you fancy doing a stroke of work, just let me know,

0:00:19 > 0:00:23because it's not as if we're up against a deadline or anything.

0:00:23 > 0:00:27'He may be a tough taskmaster, but this isn't your typical job

0:00:27 > 0:00:31'and he isn't your typical tradesman.'

0:00:31 > 0:00:34'He wants to help Welsh families in the only way he can.'

0:00:34 > 0:00:37You can't take away illness,

0:00:37 > 0:00:40you can't erase people's memories of a negative past,

0:00:40 > 0:00:45but what we can do is hammer a couple of bits of two-by-four together, plasterboard it,

0:00:45 > 0:00:49plaster it, paint it, and hopefully just make them smile a little bit.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06'Since moving to Swansea two years ago,

0:01:06 > 0:01:10'Brighton-born Jamie Denyer has started an extraordinary project.'

0:01:10 > 0:01:13I started up my project, my charity project, ETSETH,

0:01:13 > 0:01:16which stands for Enlarge The Spirit, Encourage The Heart

0:01:16 > 0:01:21and basically, what I was offering to do was plaster a room free of charge.

0:01:21 > 0:01:26People either send a letter of nomination or an e-mail,

0:01:26 > 0:01:30via the ETSETH website, nominating a deserving person.

0:01:30 > 0:01:35I then pick a couple of the letters themselves,

0:01:35 > 0:01:38because you can tell a lot from a letter.

0:01:38 > 0:01:40You can get a real good feel for it.

0:01:40 > 0:01:44I will then get in contact with that person, go to their house,

0:01:44 > 0:01:48do a site visit, have a cup of tea and a chat,

0:01:48 > 0:01:51get a little bit more or other feel for the person themselves,

0:01:51 > 0:01:57and then it will be a case of booking in a time to make over the room.

0:01:57 > 0:02:01Now, I've created a little bit of a monster.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04It's a big, pink, fluffy monster that's more likely to hug you

0:02:04 > 0:02:07than bite you, but it's a monster nonetheless.

0:02:13 > 0:02:15'Jamie's next project takes him to Scurlage,

0:02:15 > 0:02:18'in the Gower, where life has been less than rosy

0:02:18 > 0:02:21'for Sharon and teenage daughter Katie.'

0:02:21 > 0:02:24That's some fat sausage rolls there, aren't there?

0:02:24 > 0:02:27'Dealing with a marriage break-up is hard enough,

0:02:27 > 0:02:32'but they've also inherited an unfinished extension.'

0:02:32 > 0:02:35For the past sort of three years or so,

0:02:35 > 0:02:39Katie and I have had to kind of start all over again,

0:02:39 > 0:02:41when her dad and I separated.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45- Hiya, Jamie, how are you? - Good, thanks.- Come on in.

0:02:46 > 0:02:49'When Katie's dad and I were still together, we planned to build

0:02:49 > 0:02:53'the extension, we started it, and he was building it with a friend.

0:02:53 > 0:02:56'They were doing all the work themselves.'

0:02:58 > 0:03:02This, plan-wise, was supposed to be an en suite.

0:03:02 > 0:03:04You can see that the wall has been kept, there...

0:03:04 > 0:03:10'And we separated then, and I remortgaged the house

0:03:10 > 0:03:14'and added some money on to that remortgage,

0:03:14 > 0:03:17'to finish the extension off, but I didn't realise how much,'

0:03:17 > 0:03:21I suppose, materials, it was a big shock,

0:03:21 > 0:03:24I had no idea on how much it was going to cost.

0:03:24 > 0:03:26And then this is the bedroom.

0:03:26 > 0:03:30This is the bedroom, the bedroom-to-be.

0:03:30 > 0:03:36'I did a little bit of work on it, what we could,

0:03:36 > 0:03:40'and of course the money ran out then, so for three years, perhaps,'

0:03:40 > 0:03:45now, three-and-a-half years, we've done absolutely nothing on it.

0:03:45 > 0:03:51And that's basically because we just can't afford to get it completed.

0:03:51 > 0:03:59I think we can make a bit of a change in here, in all fairness.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02It will look a tiny bit different by the time we're done!

0:04:02 > 0:04:04That will be very good, yeah.

0:04:04 > 0:04:05That's all I'm going to say.

0:04:07 > 0:04:12'Well, my first thoughts are that we can make a massive difference.'

0:04:12 > 0:04:15'The only thing is, I think we're going to have to prioritise

0:04:15 > 0:04:18'as to what can actually be done.'

0:04:18 > 0:04:23'As you can see there's two bedrooms downstairs, the little hallway, there is also an attic room upstairs.

0:04:23 > 0:04:25Now, the attic room I don't think is a priority,

0:04:25 > 0:04:28inasmuch as it being used straightaway.

0:04:28 > 0:04:30There's going to be a bedroom for Katie there,

0:04:30 > 0:04:35and there was another room that was going to be an en suite,

0:04:35 > 0:04:39but the plumbing works that would need to be done in there,

0:04:39 > 0:04:44because it hasn't been position in its rightful place,

0:04:44 > 0:04:48it's going to be a lot of aggro, plumbing into that,

0:04:48 > 0:04:50so that's going to be another kind of habitable room.

0:04:50 > 0:04:55By prioritising the downstairs, we can get it done

0:04:55 > 0:04:56to a much, much higher standard.

0:04:56 > 0:04:58Because there is no budget there,

0:04:58 > 0:05:04what we've got is purely donated, so we will do what we can

0:05:04 > 0:05:08with what we've got, but I think, with what I can sort out,

0:05:08 > 0:05:13beg and borrow from, it's a case of, we can make a real change in there.

0:05:13 > 0:05:17- Aye, aye, the cavalry's here. - How are you, mate, how are you doing? All right?

0:05:17 > 0:05:20'There's no time like the present for Jamie.'

0:05:20 > 0:05:26'He's called the cavalry, in the form of carpenter Steve and Jamie's apprentice, Corey.'

0:05:26 > 0:05:30If we concentrate on clearing out, a bit of preparation work,

0:05:30 > 0:05:33we'll plasterboard, there's a stud wall to be built, mate,

0:05:33 > 0:05:36so if you could crack on with that, that'd be fantastic.

0:05:36 > 0:05:39Let's get the tools out then. Come on, boys, let's do it.

0:05:45 > 0:05:48Jamie, now, I've been helping for about the last year.

0:05:48 > 0:05:50I've only done about three jobs with him so far,

0:05:50 > 0:05:53but I hope to do a lot more in the future, you know?

0:05:53 > 0:05:56It's very rewarding, doing it.

0:05:56 > 0:05:58Really enjoy it.

0:05:58 > 0:06:02- Less talk, more work!- Sorry, sorry!

0:06:02 > 0:06:10Corey has helped me out loads on these projects and I think,

0:06:10 > 0:06:16in its own way, it's like an example, because I mean, he's 19 years old,

0:06:16 > 0:06:21and there's so much bad press about youngsters of that particular age.

0:06:21 > 0:06:24Corey has been in the paper a couple of times now

0:06:24 > 0:06:27and it's for the reason of the projects,

0:06:27 > 0:06:30where people that he actually knows, are actually in there for,

0:06:30 > 0:06:34like, mugging someone, thieving and going on a downward spiral.

0:06:35 > 0:06:39But he's held in very, very high esteem with his friends now.

0:06:39 > 0:06:42We are sort of really proud for what he does

0:06:42 > 0:06:45and sort of all credit to him, you know?

0:06:45 > 0:06:49'Although Jamie has an army of volunteers,

0:06:49 > 0:06:51'it wasn't always this way.'

0:06:51 > 0:06:53When I first started this,

0:06:53 > 0:06:57it was just literally me plastering a room, free of charge.

0:06:58 > 0:07:02And that's how it went for, like, the first four months.

0:07:02 > 0:07:07And then, it was a case of, er, more people heard about it,

0:07:07 > 0:07:12people that I'd done paid work through, other trades,

0:07:12 > 0:07:15they then said they wouldn't mind lending a hand,

0:07:15 > 0:07:20so it's a case of, we've got people like Steve next door,

0:07:20 > 0:07:27I've got three other carpenters, a painter and decorator, electrician,

0:07:27 > 0:07:33so the scope of what can be done, all of a sudden widened.

0:07:36 > 0:07:38'Each project must be nominated.'

0:07:38 > 0:07:41'In Sharon's case, it was current partner

0:07:41 > 0:07:44'and work colleague Theo who approached Jamie.'

0:07:44 > 0:07:47I nominated Sharon because, basically,

0:07:47 > 0:07:50they extension was not only unfinished,

0:07:50 > 0:07:52but we couldn't ever see a way

0:07:52 > 0:07:53of getting it finished.

0:07:53 > 0:07:57Sharon's so selfless, always giving her time for anybody

0:07:57 > 0:08:02and everybody else and never having much time for herself, really.

0:08:02 > 0:08:08So anything that can give them a better way of life, quality,

0:08:08 > 0:08:10it's great, you know?

0:08:13 > 0:08:17'A few days later and it's a gloomy start in Scurlage,

0:08:17 > 0:08:20'but that hasn't dampened Jamie's enthusiasm.'

0:08:20 > 0:08:21'Normally, he gives up two days

0:08:21 > 0:08:26'but in this instance, he's given himself less than two weeks

0:08:26 > 0:08:28'to transform Sharon's extension.'

0:08:28 > 0:08:31As you can see, the boys are in next door, Dean and Geraint.

0:08:31 > 0:08:35Dean's helped me out numerous times. This is Geraint's first time.

0:08:35 > 0:08:37They're sort of keen as mustard.

0:08:37 > 0:08:40I think they wet the bed this morning, both of them!

0:08:40 > 0:08:43But, today, as you can see, it's all plasterboarded,

0:08:43 > 0:08:45fibre tape's all ready to go,

0:08:45 > 0:08:50so the first bit were going to do is the ceiling and the two walls.

0:08:56 > 0:08:58I met Jamie about two years ago.

0:08:58 > 0:09:02He had met a girl from Swansea who I was in school with,

0:09:02 > 0:09:03he'd moved down with her,

0:09:03 > 0:09:06and he just contacted me to see if I had any work.

0:09:06 > 0:09:10He happened to mention that he was doing these charity jobs,

0:09:10 > 0:09:13and I thought that was a nice thing to do.

0:09:13 > 0:09:17I said, "Next time, I'll give you a hand," and here we are, two years on.

0:09:17 > 0:09:19We've seen some unfortunate cases.

0:09:19 > 0:09:22People really appreciate what we do for them,

0:09:22 > 0:09:26and it's only a day out of my week.

0:09:26 > 0:09:30It's easy for us to come here and do this and we get a lot from it.

0:09:30 > 0:09:34'Jamie's decision to start donating his expertise

0:09:34 > 0:09:39'came following his own personal heartache and then meeting his new Swansea bride.'

0:09:39 > 0:09:44I was living in Essex and married up there, and, just out of the blue,

0:09:44 > 0:09:52was told, "That's it, game over, you know, I want to separate."

0:09:52 > 0:09:55And it knocked me for six, in all fairness.

0:09:55 > 0:10:00The difficulties that come with that was, I went from

0:10:00 > 0:10:04a two-salary relationship to a one-salary relationship.

0:10:04 > 0:10:08My, you know, my mortgage went higher.

0:10:08 > 0:10:11I had two young plasterers on the books

0:10:11 > 0:10:14that I felt a real responsibility to,

0:10:14 > 0:10:19that I couldn't just sort of sack them at the time,

0:10:19 > 0:10:21so I was taking out little personal loans,

0:10:21 > 0:10:23I was getting a credit card,

0:10:23 > 0:10:27which was something I said I would never do,

0:10:27 > 0:10:30you know, just to keep things ticking over.

0:10:30 > 0:10:35But it was on a random night out in Brighton where I met a girl

0:10:35 > 0:10:38and after saying to myself, "Well, that's it,

0:10:38 > 0:10:40"I'm not looking for anything,

0:10:40 > 0:10:43"marriage is the biggest sham in the world,"

0:10:43 > 0:10:45all this, that and the other,

0:10:45 > 0:10:47she restored my faith in a lot of things.

0:10:48 > 0:10:51- How's it going, chaps? You winning? - Yep, getting there.

0:10:51 > 0:10:56'I think Sharon has hit a chord with me because I can really relate

0:10:56 > 0:11:00'to what she went through, because I went through exactly the same thing.'

0:11:00 > 0:11:03Now, Sharon as a person, Katie as a person,

0:11:03 > 0:11:06go a long way for me to do a project.

0:11:06 > 0:11:08They're lovely people.

0:11:08 > 0:11:15Sharon does work for a very worthy and deserving cause.

0:11:15 > 0:11:21It's just all little elements and I think, because it will benefit them as a whole,

0:11:21 > 0:11:27but it will benefit Katie, who's still a youngster.

0:11:27 > 0:11:30It's all kind of part of the emotional healing process.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33Sort of cracking the whip on 'em. Can't let 'em slack.

0:11:33 > 0:11:37'Over the last three years,

0:11:37 > 0:11:41'not only has Sharon dealt with the aftermath of a marriage breakdown,

0:11:41 > 0:11:45'she's also started a new job at a homeless charity in Swansea.'

0:11:46 > 0:11:52When you start a new job, you don't know people very well, and of course

0:11:52 > 0:11:55you don't want to tell people what's going on in your personal life.

0:11:55 > 0:11:58You don't yet have that relationship with them.

0:11:58 > 0:12:02So it was really difficult, and, at the beginning, I thought, "Oh, my God, what have I done?"

0:12:02 > 0:12:05Obviously, Katie was - is -

0:12:05 > 0:12:09a big part of my life, and she did have a lot of issues

0:12:09 > 0:12:12going through school because, at the time as well,

0:12:12 > 0:12:17it was the sort of transition between primary school

0:12:17 > 0:12:22and comprehensive school and it didn't go well for her,

0:12:22 > 0:12:29so all my time, really, was taken up with work and Katie.

0:12:33 > 0:12:36'Back in the extension, Jamie has come up with a plan.'

0:12:36 > 0:12:40The smaller room was supposed to be an en suite, but because of

0:12:40 > 0:12:47how it was planned, how the drainage is set up, it's just not viable,

0:12:47 > 0:12:48it's too expensive,

0:12:48 > 0:12:50so what were going to do is,

0:12:50 > 0:12:54I thought that because this has been a very hard process on Katie,

0:12:54 > 0:12:58I would like to do something like a chill-out room,

0:12:58 > 0:13:02basically, a room where she can go in and just sort of relax

0:13:02 > 0:13:07and also do her studies in peace and quiet.

0:13:07 > 0:13:09I think she actually deserves that, you know?

0:13:13 > 0:13:17'It's the following day, and with the plastering magic performed,

0:13:17 > 0:13:22'Jamie is armed with more generous handymen, carpenters Pete and Gaz.'

0:13:23 > 0:13:25'He's also quite pleased with the progress,

0:13:25 > 0:13:28'even though there's still plenty to do.'

0:13:28 > 0:13:31'Once it's at this stage,

0:13:31 > 0:13:35'you can start to sort of a visualise it as a room, you know?'

0:13:35 > 0:13:40This is when you can start to sort of see light at the end of the tunnel, you know?

0:13:40 > 0:13:44And now that the boys are here today, it's in my mind's eye now

0:13:44 > 0:13:47that the skirting and the architraves are going to be on,

0:13:47 > 0:13:51and it's a case of, you can start to think of the finishing touches.

0:13:53 > 0:13:57Once it's dry, the paint and other stuff is going to be going down.

0:13:57 > 0:13:59Yeah, it's a good feeling.

0:14:04 > 0:14:10I call Corey "the solar eclipse", because he only works now and again.

0:14:10 > 0:14:13About once in a blue moon, mate, because you work me so hard.

0:14:13 > 0:14:16- Just carry on now, eh?- Yeah.

0:14:16 > 0:14:21You ain't a bad boy, really, are you? He's a star, an absolute star.

0:14:21 > 0:14:24If truth be known, whatever goes wrong,

0:14:24 > 0:14:26Corey then digs us out of a hole, really.

0:14:26 > 0:14:29Corey is the glue that holds this whole operation together.

0:14:35 > 0:14:39'Whilst the extension is left in Corey's capable hands,

0:14:39 > 0:14:42'Jamie needs to beg and borrow elsewhere.'

0:14:42 > 0:14:46Just going into town to sort and the donation of carpets.

0:14:46 > 0:14:49Sharon doesn't actually know that the carpets are going down.

0:14:49 > 0:14:51I think, in her mind,

0:14:51 > 0:14:54it is just literally the case of the stage that it's at now,

0:14:54 > 0:14:56and painted, really.

0:14:56 > 0:14:58Which, you know, she would be over the moon with,

0:14:58 > 0:15:02but I'm trying to get every single little finishing touch that I can,

0:15:02 > 0:15:05to make it look as good as we can.

0:15:05 > 0:15:08And hopefully she'll be pleasantly surprised with that.

0:15:09 > 0:15:12- How are you, Steve?- Pretty good, mate. How you?- Yes, very good.

0:15:12 > 0:15:19Jamie has spoken to a company about the possibility of donating carpets.

0:15:19 > 0:15:22We appreciate you donating the carpets. Superb.

0:15:22 > 0:15:27Right, I've chatted to the manufacturer. These are the kind of things we're looking at.

0:15:29 > 0:15:32With less than a week to finish the extension,

0:15:32 > 0:15:35it looks as though Jamie is onto a winner.

0:15:35 > 0:15:38Well, in all fairness, we're spoilt for choice here.

0:15:38 > 0:15:42I thought it was just going to be a case of one or the other,

0:15:42 > 0:15:44but we are spoilt for choice.

0:15:48 > 0:15:52So far, Jamie has helped over 20 families.

0:15:52 > 0:15:57One family who has benefited from his generosity is the Worgan family.

0:15:57 > 0:16:03Because their dad has gone to Afghanistan and the kids want to bring their friends back,

0:16:03 > 0:16:06I nominated the family as a group

0:16:06 > 0:16:08because I wanted the living room

0:16:08 > 0:16:11to be decent and it wasn't at the time, it was a mess.

0:16:11 > 0:16:14He, basically, ripped it apart

0:16:14 > 0:16:18and completely replastered the room from top to bottom.

0:16:18 > 0:16:23Then, as a plus point, we came back from holiday

0:16:23 > 0:16:26and he'd completely renovated my daughter's bedroom.

0:16:26 > 0:16:29She was just so happy. We weren't expecting that.

0:16:29 > 0:16:32We were just expecting a basic bit of plastering.

0:16:32 > 0:16:36It made an amazing difference, cos there is no way we would have been able to afford it.

0:16:36 > 0:16:40My daughter's room was covered in mould and we couldn't get rid of it.

0:16:40 > 0:16:42We didn't know what we were going to do.

0:16:42 > 0:16:45We tried papering, but it grew back over the paper.

0:16:45 > 0:16:48So it has made a massive difference. I think he is a star.

0:16:48 > 0:16:53A genuinely nice person who wants to make a difference to people's lives.

0:16:53 > 0:16:56I just think he's a really stand-up guy.

0:17:01 > 0:17:07It is a few days since work has been done in Scurlage. Today, there's a new hive of activity.

0:17:09 > 0:17:13This is Hannah's first time she has helped out.

0:17:13 > 0:17:15Emma has helped out on a number of occasions.

0:17:15 > 0:17:18She has done quite a few jobs and she is absolutely loving it.

0:17:18 > 0:17:23It's people like Emma, having people like Emma aboard,

0:17:23 > 0:17:27it just makes the whole project roll smoothly.

0:17:27 > 0:17:30She's, yeah, she's an absolute diamond.

0:17:31 > 0:17:33I met a Jamie in a pub.

0:17:34 > 0:17:38Erm, I was telling him I was in college

0:17:38 > 0:17:42doing painting and decorating.

0:17:42 > 0:17:44He explained to me what he does

0:17:44 > 0:17:46and I thought it was a really brilliant thing to do.

0:17:46 > 0:17:49I thought, "I'd love to do that."

0:17:49 > 0:17:52I've always wanted to do something for charity,

0:17:52 > 0:17:56but never really known what to do or what you could do to help.

0:17:56 > 0:17:59When I found out about this, I thought, "This is brill."

0:17:59 > 0:18:02So, I've been doing it ever since.

0:18:02 > 0:18:04We haven't been here for the past couple of days,

0:18:04 > 0:18:07because we had to let stuff settle and the plaster to dry out.

0:18:07 > 0:18:14But, yeah, by the end of tomorrow, we should be there or thereabouts

0:18:14 > 0:18:17and then it's a case of waiting for the carpets to be fitted,

0:18:17 > 0:18:19the blinds to be fitted

0:18:19 > 0:18:22and then Steve the carpenter is coming back on Saturday

0:18:22 > 0:18:28to do the finishing touches, such as put on the doors and stuff like that.

0:18:28 > 0:18:30So, we should be there or thereabouts.

0:18:30 > 0:18:35- Is this the second coat that is going on?- Yep, this is the second one.

0:18:35 > 0:18:40- The second coat. - This is going on good.

0:18:40 > 0:18:43- Once you've done that, any chance of cracking on next door?- Yep.

0:18:43 > 0:18:48- And doing it without chatting?!- Yes! - So we get a little bit more done.

0:18:48 > 0:18:50- Any chance of that, any danger?- No(!)

0:18:50 > 0:18:53- I didn't think so, really(!) - Let's be realistic(!)

0:18:55 > 0:18:58- It's like asking me to hold my breath!- Yeah!

0:18:59 > 0:19:03Jamie really needs to push the pace if he is to finish the job on time.

0:19:03 > 0:19:08Sharon and Katie are expecting to see the finished extension in two days.

0:19:09 > 0:19:14Yes, on the painting side, there is light at the end of the tunnel.

0:19:14 > 0:19:19We're in the final throes. It's the last finishing touches.

0:19:19 > 0:19:22- I can still smell paint.- Yeah. - I was just wondering.

0:19:22 > 0:19:27It's the aroma of progression, let's call it that.

0:19:27 > 0:19:28That's good. That good.

0:19:31 > 0:19:35But, whether you will like the fuchsia pink, is another thing.

0:19:35 > 0:19:38It's, it's, er, progression, nonetheless.

0:19:38 > 0:19:42- It will be a bachelorette pad. - You will never see her.

0:19:42 > 0:19:45- No. - You'll think she's left home.

0:19:45 > 0:19:48Perhaps she'll lock me in. That's what will happen.

0:19:48 > 0:19:53- She might get the key for that door and lock me in, so I can't get out. - I like that idea!

0:19:59 > 0:20:00With the tea break over,

0:20:00 > 0:20:04Jamie will have to work well into the night to get the painting done.

0:20:14 > 0:20:17It's the day before the extension is unveiled.

0:20:17 > 0:20:21The carpets are being laid, but Jamie has other priorities today.

0:20:27 > 0:20:33As you can see, the juggling act is sort of in full swing.

0:20:33 > 0:20:36The juggling act of the project and the paid work.

0:20:36 > 0:20:39I'm here today on my own.

0:20:39 > 0:20:42Corey is on another job, getting it prepped up

0:20:42 > 0:20:44and starting the ball rolling there,

0:20:44 > 0:20:49because we are only a day away from Sharon's big reveal.

0:20:49 > 0:20:52So, yeah, it's a case of getting this job

0:20:52 > 0:20:58and the other job done tomorrow, then we can concentrate on putting our energy and focus

0:20:58 > 0:21:01into bringing Sharon's over the finishing line.

0:21:01 > 0:21:05Because I haven't been there today, but I believe the carpets have being laid today.

0:21:05 > 0:21:08I think the blinds are being installed

0:21:08 > 0:21:11around about four o'clock today.

0:21:11 > 0:21:13There will be a lot happening that I haven't seen yet.

0:21:13 > 0:21:16But, yeah, just really excited about it.

0:21:19 > 0:21:24On the other side of Swansea, Sharon is oblivious to the activity in her home.

0:21:24 > 0:21:29She is on her way to work, supporting vulnerable adults in accessing further education,

0:21:29 > 0:21:33training and employment. It's given her a new focus.

0:21:35 > 0:21:37I've had quite a tough time myself.

0:21:37 > 0:21:43However, when I come to work there are people there who have had it really tough.

0:21:43 > 0:21:47Erm, and it does put things into perspective then.

0:21:47 > 0:21:51It's great to see their achievements

0:21:51 > 0:21:56throughout their learning journey.

0:21:56 > 0:22:02Erm, and it's real job satisfaction, you know.

0:22:05 > 0:22:11This award was a shock to me, because, since I've been on this scheme

0:22:11 > 0:22:15and the certificates I've had, which are fantastic, which I thank you both for...

0:22:15 > 0:22:17Today, Sharon is helping Neil,

0:22:17 > 0:22:20but her thoughts are never too far from the extension.

0:22:22 > 0:22:25'The last couple of nights, I haven't been able to sleep,

0:22:25 > 0:22:29'thinking about what is actually going on in the extension.'

0:22:29 > 0:22:32I came home from work last night

0:22:32 > 0:22:38and as soon as I walked in the back door, it sort of hit me, the smell hit me.

0:22:38 > 0:22:42I knew it was paint. So obviously they are painting out there.

0:22:42 > 0:22:46You can hear noises, and the smells,

0:22:46 > 0:22:48you're thinking, "What are they actually doing?"

0:22:48 > 0:22:53Because I haven't seen it. I can't see through the little window now, because they've blocked it out.

0:22:53 > 0:22:58So, it's wondering all the time what is going on out there.

0:22:58 > 0:23:02So, yeah, it's countdown, now, countdown to Saturday.

0:23:07 > 0:23:13Today is the day that Sharon and Katie will finally see their concrete-shell transformation.

0:23:13 > 0:23:17It's also the day of reckoning for Jamie and his team.

0:23:17 > 0:23:20Once, that is, they've finished admiring their handiwork.

0:23:20 > 0:23:22Superb!

0:23:23 > 0:23:26Ah, they've done a class job.

0:23:26 > 0:23:28That's all the way throughout.

0:23:30 > 0:23:33That's beautiful. Beautiful.

0:23:33 > 0:23:36- Even up the apples!- Even the plastering's pretty good, eh?

0:23:36 > 0:23:37LAUGHTER

0:23:38 > 0:23:39Oh, mate.

0:23:39 > 0:23:43The finished extension truly will be a turning point for Sharon.

0:23:44 > 0:23:47- Lights and all.- 'It's going to be a massive difference.

0:23:47 > 0:23:51- 'It will make a massive difference to us, isn't it, Kate?'- 'Yeah.'

0:23:51 > 0:23:55Erm, I think we'll be able to use the front door again.

0:23:55 > 0:23:58And your friends will be able to come over.

0:23:58 > 0:24:03And, of course, I know Jamie's done a massive amount of work out there.

0:24:03 > 0:24:08It's been a massive help. Because I wouldn't have been able to do it.

0:24:08 > 0:24:12I just wouldn't have been able to do it, so it would have stayed like that.

0:24:12 > 0:24:14It's been quite fun actually.

0:24:15 > 0:24:18We've loved it. We've loved having everybody here.

0:24:18 > 0:24:22It's going to be annoying when they've all gone. It'll be too quiet.

0:24:24 > 0:24:26As is it's Katie's birthday in a few days,

0:24:26 > 0:24:30- Sharon is taking her and friends for lunch...- Have a good time.

0:24:30 > 0:24:33..before returning home to inspect Jamie's work.

0:24:35 > 0:24:40The clock's ticking, but Jamie seems to be a man down.

0:24:40 > 0:24:44Last time I saw him, he was walking through that way somewhere

0:24:44 > 0:24:47- with a little carton in his hand. - What's that, a portion of chips?

0:24:47 > 0:24:49He's on the chip bus, is he?

0:24:49 > 0:24:52Let's go and find him, shall we?

0:24:52 > 0:24:53- Corey!- What?

0:24:56 > 0:25:00Whenever you fancy doing a stroke of work, you know, just let me know,

0:25:00 > 0:25:04it's not as if we are up against a deadline or anything(!) Yeah?

0:25:05 > 0:25:08Corey isn't allowed to refuel for long.

0:25:08 > 0:25:11They only have a few hours to finish the job.

0:25:19 > 0:25:22There's just one more thing before Jamie can relax.

0:25:22 > 0:25:26Both he and Katie are huge Chelsea fans.

0:25:26 > 0:25:28Hang on, what do you think you're doing?!

0:25:28 > 0:25:32- We're improving the room, not making it look worse! - JAMIE MAKES MUFFLED NOISES

0:25:32 > 0:25:34- Get that down, for goodness sake! - JAMIE LAUGHS

0:25:40 > 0:25:43It looks as though they may just have finished in time.

0:25:46 > 0:25:49- How are you girls?- Are you all right? - Yes.

0:25:49 > 0:25:50It's all good this end.

0:25:55 > 0:26:00As you can see, this is just the first bit as you come into the door.

0:26:00 > 0:26:04- You can finally use...- Oh, my God, yes.- ..the front door.

0:26:04 > 0:26:08A massive difference. That is so different.

0:26:10 > 0:26:14I believe this is going to be the bedroom for Katie.

0:26:14 > 0:26:17Oh, my God! Oh!
