0:00:02 > 0:00:07As a parent, you want to do the best you can. And we're not in a position to do that.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12We're in Cumbria to help a family in desperate need...

0:00:12 > 0:00:16You just can't see a way out of it. It's got to that stage now.

0:00:16 > 0:00:20We're getting emotional because it means a lot.

0:00:20 > 0:00:25..who have a little boy that wasn't supposed to survive.

0:00:25 > 0:00:29Because of his condition they told us he may not live.

0:00:29 > 0:00:32That's it.

0:00:33 > 0:00:36Noah has defied every expectation of him.

0:00:38 > 0:00:39Amazing!

0:00:39 > 0:00:42To think this little boy has been through

0:00:42 > 0:00:46so much in his short life, and he's just so happy, so smiley.

0:00:46 > 0:00:51But now the family are trapped in a house that's hurting their son.

0:00:51 > 0:00:55I'd love for him to be, to be able to get from room to room.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58But you can't. It's horrible.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02It's an awful thing.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05It's a 280-year-old wreck.

0:01:05 > 0:01:08Every single room has had a different problem.

0:01:08 > 0:01:11And it's going to push every one of us.

0:01:11 > 0:01:14It's like pulling a thread on a jumper,

0:01:14 > 0:01:15it just keeps on going.

0:01:15 > 0:01:17We have the usual suspects with us,

0:01:17 > 0:01:21but being so rural, are we going to find enough people to help us out?

0:01:21 > 0:01:23That's handy. Are you doing anything?

0:01:23 > 0:01:24ALL: No!

0:01:24 > 0:01:26- Can you help us out?- ALL: Yes!

0:01:26 > 0:01:29This is DIY SOS: The Big Build!

0:01:29 > 0:01:30THEY CHEER

0:01:40 > 0:01:43Oh, beautiful boy.

0:01:43 > 0:01:48Rob and Michelle Wall live in Cumbria with their 15-month-old son, Noah.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51Jumpy arm!

0:01:51 > 0:01:55And Michelle's daughters Ali and Steph from a previous marriage.

0:01:55 > 0:02:01Always wanted to be a dad, and this one saying "Dad" is just incredible.

0:02:04 > 0:02:11But this longed-for little boy has defied all the odds to be here.

0:02:11 > 0:02:16At their three-month scan, Michelle and Rob had news every parent dreads.

0:02:16 > 0:02:20The nurse was really nice very chatty,

0:02:20 > 0:02:23and then all of a sudden she started going quiet,

0:02:23 > 0:02:27and it was silence, and we looked at each other and we kind of...

0:02:32 > 0:02:34My stomach churned.

0:02:34 > 0:02:38You know when somebody's like that and they've stopped talking, you know...

0:02:38 > 0:02:40What's wrong?

0:02:40 > 0:02:43"I'm just going to go and get someone," she said, "I need them

0:02:43 > 0:02:45"to double-check something."

0:02:47 > 0:02:50And then they confirmed what they saw,

0:02:50 > 0:02:54they said it was severe spina bifida.

0:02:55 > 0:02:58Spina bifida is a fault in the development of the spine

0:02:58 > 0:03:00while the baby is in the womb.

0:03:00 > 0:03:06It meant Noah's spine was split open, and the prognosis wasn't good.

0:03:06 > 0:03:11Because of his condition they'd told us, "He may not live."

0:03:11 > 0:03:15They couldn't say, you know, whether it be 20 seconds, 20 minutes, 20 years.

0:03:15 > 0:03:17We just wanted this baby so much.

0:03:17 > 0:03:19It was loved.

0:03:19 > 0:03:23We knew we would do whatever needed to be done for this baby to be happy.

0:03:23 > 0:03:26Because of the bleak prognosis, Rob and Michelle made a heartbreaking

0:03:26 > 0:03:31decision no parent should have to face, plan their child's funeral.

0:03:32 > 0:03:34We sat in the funeral parlour,

0:03:34 > 0:03:37Michelle pregnant with Noah inside, and Noah had hiccups.

0:03:38 > 0:03:39That's it.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46It's like I'm going back.

0:03:52 > 0:03:56Incredibly, Noah survived the birth and multiple surgeries, but

0:03:56 > 0:04:00he's paralysed from the chest down and it's likely he'll never walk.

0:04:04 > 0:04:07That's Noah's scar. It goes quite...

0:04:07 > 0:04:10goes to the top of his bum there, look.

0:04:10 > 0:04:15Shortly after his birth the family got even more devastating news.

0:04:15 > 0:04:19A cyst whilst he was in the womb had caused catastrophic damage

0:04:19 > 0:04:23to his brain, and only 2% remains.

0:04:24 > 0:04:28Noah has only got a very tiny piece of brain which runs just at

0:04:28 > 0:04:33the front here, and the rest of his head is actually filled with fluid.

0:04:35 > 0:04:40So to only have a really tiny piece of your brain, and do

0:04:40 > 0:04:45the things that you do is pretty amazing.

0:04:45 > 0:04:47- IN BABY TALK:- Amazing.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49Yes.

0:04:49 > 0:04:54Despite this enormous hurdle, Noah is confounding all expectations. The

0:04:54 > 0:05:00doctors can't say exactly how, but he can see, hear and communicate.

0:05:00 > 0:05:03He's just so curious about everything, it's fascinating.

0:05:03 > 0:05:05Light...light.

0:05:05 > 0:05:09He's saying, "Look, look light," it's just unbelievable.

0:05:09 > 0:05:14It's never a dull day with him around, he's always happy,

0:05:14 > 0:05:16he's always smiling.

0:05:18 > 0:05:19I love you!

0:05:19 > 0:05:24And the fact Noah's paralysed hasn't stopped him trying to move about.

0:05:24 > 0:05:29This is the latest thing that we're doing, isn't it?

0:05:29 > 0:05:31Excuse me, what are you doing?

0:05:31 > 0:05:35But there's a huge threat that could halt Noah's development,

0:05:35 > 0:05:38there are only two rooms finished and habitable enough for him

0:05:38 > 0:05:40to spend any time in.

0:05:40 > 0:05:43The bedroom he shares with his parents and the front room.

0:05:43 > 0:05:47The rest of the house is dangerous and no place for a child.

0:05:49 > 0:05:51Things fall down from the ceiling, you can

0:05:51 > 0:05:54see down to bare plaster, there's open pipe work, no heating

0:05:54 > 0:05:59in here whatsoever. Concrete falls, not a nice environment, really.

0:05:59 > 0:06:01We have to do this every day,

0:06:01 > 0:06:04The wall being bare brick, it just falls off.

0:06:04 > 0:06:07Cleaning up is always tiring but it has to be done. Noah could

0:06:07 > 0:06:10have breathing problems in the future.

0:06:12 > 0:06:15Rob and Michelle bought the house before Noah came along,

0:06:15 > 0:06:18but a host of unexpected problems with the 280-year-old

0:06:18 > 0:06:21property soon used up their savings.

0:06:21 > 0:06:25Now with a severely disabled child to support

0:06:25 > 0:06:28the dream of a family home has become a nightmare.

0:06:30 > 0:06:32Things kind of ground to a halt, and this is sort of the stage

0:06:32 > 0:06:39we're at now. It's not progressing, it's bogged down, we've no money.

0:06:39 > 0:06:43Without insulation, the kitchen got down to -19 degrees

0:06:43 > 0:06:47centigrade in the winter and with Rob's modest income from working

0:06:47 > 0:06:51in a factory, he's been forced to scavenge wood to heat the house.

0:06:52 > 0:06:55Our main source of heating in the house is a wood-burner stove and an

0:06:55 > 0:06:59open fire. It's not efficient, it's the option we have, really, because

0:06:59 > 0:07:06we can't afford any different way of heating the house at the moment.

0:07:06 > 0:07:09But the most distressing thing for Rob and Michelle is the thought

0:07:09 > 0:07:11that, as Noah will end up in a wheelchair,

0:07:11 > 0:07:15he won't be able to live a full life in this house.

0:07:15 > 0:07:17There's no way he can get around.

0:07:17 > 0:07:20He'll become a prisoner in his own home.

0:07:22 > 0:07:25As a parent you want to do the best you can as a parent,

0:07:25 > 0:07:28and we're not in a position to do that.

0:07:28 > 0:07:32It's got to the stage now there's no light at the end of the tunnel

0:07:32 > 0:07:35and, you know, what do you do next, where do you turn?

0:07:42 > 0:07:45I suppose the main thing at this stage is to find out what

0:07:45 > 0:07:47we can actually do for Noah, so what is it you need doing?

0:07:47 > 0:07:50So when Noah's in a wheelchair he can access rooms,

0:07:50 > 0:07:52he can access the garden.

0:07:52 > 0:07:54Erm, just do the normal day-to-day stuff.

0:07:54 > 0:07:56- It's important for his development as well.- Yeah.

0:07:56 > 0:07:59We don't know what he's going to be capable of, the small

0:07:59 > 0:08:01amount of brain he's got, we don't know..

0:08:01 > 0:08:04- At the moment he's coming on fantastically.- He is, isn't he?

0:08:04 > 0:08:07Brilliant, he's bright, he's cheerful, he's always happy,

0:08:07 > 0:08:11but we don't know what the future holds, so we have to prepare ourselves for the future.

0:08:11 > 0:08:14- So who knows what you can achieve, little man.- I know.

0:08:14 > 0:08:18- All the guys will be outside, come and introduce Noah to them before...- Yeah.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21..before you head off. That be all right?

0:08:22 > 0:08:24'So, we've got a load of trades...'

0:08:24 > 0:08:26You all right, young man?

0:08:26 > 0:08:28..'and, of course, a few familiar faces.

0:08:30 > 0:08:33'There's Chris, the prince of plaster.

0:08:33 > 0:08:36'Billy, the prince of darkness.

0:08:36 > 0:08:39'Jules, the man mountain.

0:08:39 > 0:08:41'And Mark, the molehill.'

0:08:41 > 0:08:44We up for it, definitely?

0:08:44 > 0:08:46ALL :Yeah.

0:08:46 > 0:08:48All right, let's go and do it, then, shall we?

0:08:48 > 0:08:49THEY CHEER AND CLAP

0:08:49 > 0:08:51'There's a wreck of a home that needs their help,

0:08:51 > 0:08:54'and the wreck of the team are getting stuck in already.

0:08:54 > 0:08:56'Look at the state of them.

0:08:56 > 0:08:57'We need a plan, what's the plan?

0:08:57 > 0:09:01'Designer and architect extraordinaire, Charlie Luxton,

0:09:01 > 0:09:04'is the man with the vision. Yes, Charlie looks like a hippy,

0:09:04 > 0:09:08'he's been known to hug a tree, and he's evangelical about green living.'

0:09:08 > 0:09:12What's the key thing about this build when you come to design it?

0:09:12 > 0:09:14There's two things. One is getting round the house,

0:09:14 > 0:09:17I suppose that's the first thing that is very specific to this

0:09:17 > 0:09:21family is to try and move around with Noah. As he gets older

0:09:21 > 0:09:24and bigger, you know, the parents are going to struggle to get him around.

0:09:24 > 0:09:27So the idea of making a house that he can move around in,

0:09:27 > 0:09:29hopefully on his own, that's critical,

0:09:29 > 0:09:32so the lift, the hoists, being able to get him to the loo

0:09:32 > 0:09:35and stuff on the ground floor, that's really important.

0:09:35 > 0:09:38It's all about self-respect, isn't it? Yes, you've got

0:09:38 > 0:09:41disabilities in the family, but if you can try and normalise

0:09:41 > 0:09:44your existence that seems to be a reasonable aspiration, doesn't it?

0:09:44 > 0:09:47The second thing is the house is just absolutely freezing.

0:09:47 > 0:09:51Making the house really warm is really important.

0:09:51 > 0:09:55'He's going to talk about insulation again, isn't he? I can feel it coming on.

0:09:55 > 0:09:58'The family have struggled on through winters with only the most

0:09:58 > 0:10:02'basic of heating from an inefficient boiler and an old solar panel.'

0:10:02 > 0:10:05This kitchen they had at -19 in there.

0:10:05 > 0:10:08It's what your freezer works at at home.

0:10:08 > 0:10:11So if you put the bread out on the side and went in to warm up,

0:10:11 > 0:10:14the bread would have been frozen by the time you got back.

0:10:14 > 0:10:18It was un-insulated, it's got three external walls and an un-insulated roof.

0:10:18 > 0:10:22So we're now trying to get a bit of a solar system which is

0:10:22 > 0:10:26really old and weird, a bit of a boiler system tied into some other

0:10:26 > 0:10:29bits where they had nothing, so we're just trying to make it work.

0:10:29 > 0:10:32- Right.- And the main thing we're doing is actually insulating the roof,

0:10:32 > 0:10:35completely re-insulating all the loft area, because all

0:10:35 > 0:10:38the heating they are producing is going straight out the roof.

0:10:38 > 0:10:40All right, so how much are we going to save them

0:10:40 > 0:10:42by the time we've thermally insulated this thing,

0:10:42 > 0:10:44are we going to halve their bills, what we going to do?

0:10:44 > 0:10:46We're not really going to save their bills,

0:10:46 > 0:10:49because, and it's very important this, because they don't heat the

0:10:49 > 0:10:52house, they heat it with firewood and they don't have a warm house.

0:10:52 > 0:10:55So what we're going to do is hopefully their energy bills

0:10:55 > 0:10:57will stay the same, but they'll have a warm house.

0:10:57 > 0:11:00See, a lot of people would claim that they were going to save money,

0:11:00 > 0:11:03not us, we'll tell the truth. We're not going to save them

0:11:03 > 0:11:05any money at all, and we're proud of it.

0:11:05 > 0:11:09'Nothing like pride in your work, is there(?)

0:11:09 > 0:11:12'What will make us proud if we can pull it off is what this

0:11:12 > 0:11:15'house is aiming to look like in just nine days' time.

0:11:18 > 0:11:20'Right, here we go - the kitchen will become somewhere the family

0:11:20 > 0:11:25'want to spend time. with safe space for Noah to enjoy.

0:11:25 > 0:11:29'All the floors will be levelled for wheelchair access.

0:11:29 > 0:11:32'And the new sensory playroom will have state-of-the-art

0:11:32 > 0:11:36'technology for Noah to develop and flourish.

0:11:36 > 0:11:39'A new lift will lead upstairs to the fully accessible family

0:11:39 > 0:11:43'bathroom, which will be just across the hall from Noah's new bedroom.

0:11:43 > 0:11:47'Now, up in the loft we're creating new bedrooms for the girls,

0:11:47 > 0:11:50'and because Charlie Luxton is our designer, the whole

0:11:50 > 0:11:56'building will be squeezed full of insulation to keep the family warm.

0:11:56 > 0:11:59'It's a massive amount to do in little more than a week,

0:11:59 > 0:12:02'and we've rarely worked on a house as old as this,

0:12:02 > 0:12:06'so who knows what antiquated horrors lurk beneath the surface?

0:12:06 > 0:12:08'Oh, there's one.'

0:12:08 > 0:12:11Hiya.

0:12:11 > 0:12:15This is Sandy, this is Alan. Sandy is going to take charge.

0:12:15 > 0:12:16Thank goodness for that.

0:12:16 > 0:12:19So are we going to get this done, you reckon? There's a lot to do

0:12:19 > 0:12:22and the plasterers are going to be chasing you round.

0:12:22 > 0:12:24Excuse me, can you tell him I've come up with a few ideas,

0:12:24 > 0:12:29- haven't we, while we've been going round?- One.- One, one idea?

0:12:29 > 0:12:31I told a lovely joke, didn't I? I was walking down the street

0:12:31 > 0:12:34and this guy threw a bottle of milk at me, and then

0:12:34 > 0:12:38he started throwing grated cheese at me and I thought, "How dairy!"

0:12:38 > 0:12:39"How dairy".

0:12:39 > 0:12:41HE LAUGHS

0:12:41 > 0:12:43"How dairy".

0:12:43 > 0:12:46Don't you understand it?

0:12:47 > 0:12:49'We really shouldn't let him out in public, should we?

0:12:49 > 0:12:51'Right, back to the job in hand.

0:12:51 > 0:12:54'Now, Charlie, as I've mentioned, loves insulation and he's got

0:12:54 > 0:12:58'an enormous list of insulation to fit. He's going to need a wingman,

0:12:58 > 0:13:02'someone who'll really buy in into this eco malarkey. Yeah, not him.'

0:13:02 > 0:13:04He's off.

0:13:04 > 0:13:06'Chris, believe it or not, a safe pair of hands.'

0:13:06 > 0:13:09Give me that list, I will guard it with my life.

0:13:09 > 0:13:11Yes, that's...yeah...

0:13:11 > 0:13:13As he dropped it...

0:13:13 > 0:13:15In a puddle! Yeah, you guard it.

0:13:15 > 0:13:17I'll guard it with my life.

0:13:17 > 0:13:19"Yeah, what could possibly go wrong(?)

0:13:19 > 0:13:22'That's warmth under way, now for the access.

0:13:22 > 0:13:24'But the problem is that when they built this

0:13:24 > 0:13:28'house in the 1730s nobody was thinking about fitting a lift shaft.'

0:13:29 > 0:13:31What's the problem?

0:13:31 > 0:13:33The lift is going up in this corner...

0:13:33 > 0:13:35- Yeah, it's...- ..But this steel is in the way.

0:13:35 > 0:13:38The opening needs to be much bigger than that.

0:13:38 > 0:13:39What's that holding up?

0:13:39 > 0:13:43Well, obviously, these short ends of floor joists go onto this wall, so

0:13:43 > 0:13:49really what we'd have to do is move that steel back that way.

0:13:49 > 0:13:53'Now, steels are put into buildings to support something important,

0:13:53 > 0:13:56'even if they're rusty like this one. This tiny bit of metal is

0:13:56 > 0:14:01'holding up the bathroom, so moving it is a huge deal.'

0:14:01 > 0:14:04We're going to have to literally rip out all the wiring,

0:14:04 > 0:14:07all the plumbing, replace all the floor joists and take that steel.

0:14:07 > 0:14:10Take a line of bricks off the top of the wall so that you can get

0:14:10 > 0:14:13a wall plate in because the joists are going to be deeper and you can't

0:14:13 > 0:14:16make the ceiling any higher in the room above, so it has to come down.

0:14:16 > 0:14:21All because this steel is here, and if it was here we'd be fine.

0:14:21 > 0:14:25This could be a job breaker, this one.

0:14:25 > 0:14:27'We've got to figure out a solution for the lift,

0:14:27 > 0:14:29'and for a very good reason.'

0:14:29 > 0:14:32We've got to make the house flow for Noah. We've got

0:14:32 > 0:14:35to get him through all the downstairs of the house with his

0:14:35 > 0:14:38wheelchair, and we've got to take him up in the lift. That wheelchair

0:14:38 > 0:14:41has got to be able to move around on that top floor cos he's got

0:14:41 > 0:14:43to have full use of the house. We don't want to just take him and

0:14:43 > 0:14:46put him in one area in the house, we want him to be in the house

0:14:46 > 0:14:49with his whole family, moving around and enjoying the company.

0:14:49 > 0:14:52But, a house this age, it's all on different levels,

0:14:52 > 0:14:56it's all higgledy-piggledy, it's sank a wee bit that way,

0:14:56 > 0:14:59it's going a wee bit this way. It's an old house.

0:14:59 > 0:15:02I'd rather have this than a nice modern house.

0:15:02 > 0:15:05Look at the character and... it's beautiful.

0:15:05 > 0:15:07'Right now, it's pretty ugly.

0:15:07 > 0:15:10'Not the builder, the building, Well, both, really.

0:15:10 > 0:15:12'We're breaking this building apart

0:15:12 > 0:15:15'and uncovering some nasty surprises along the way.

0:15:15 > 0:15:18The whole of the landing is slanted.

0:15:18 > 0:15:23Whole bottom chunk of that chimney is sitting on a 1½-by-1 baton.

0:15:23 > 0:15:27The floor level is lower than the soil outside,

0:15:27 > 0:15:30so all this is being taken out and removed from the building

0:15:30 > 0:15:33just to stop the building being damp inside.

0:15:35 > 0:15:38This big A-frame, effectively holding the roof up,

0:15:38 > 0:15:42is sitting on the tiny wooden lintel. It's a bit rotten

0:15:42 > 0:15:45and a little bit undersized, I'd say.

0:15:45 > 0:15:47Something is nesting up there.

0:15:48 > 0:15:51Every single room has had a different problem.

0:15:51 > 0:15:53I'm not even joking, you can actually see next-door.

0:15:55 > 0:15:57Whoa!

0:15:59 > 0:16:02I do love this idea that they used to build things really

0:16:02 > 0:16:04well in the olden days.

0:16:04 > 0:16:06It's like no, no, no!

0:16:07 > 0:16:10'But it's not only the bad stuff we're discovering.

0:16:10 > 0:16:12This is an 18th-century coaching inn,

0:16:12 > 0:16:16'and some of the things we've found have been proper little treasures.'

0:16:16 > 0:16:20There's a very ancient abbey up the road from here, about 600 yards,

0:16:20 > 0:16:23and if you go in the entrance porch way, there's a whole

0:16:23 > 0:16:26load of these exactly like this, and it's because when all of the

0:16:26 > 0:16:29monastery that surrounded it sort of fell apart, everybody

0:16:29 > 0:16:33in the village came and helped themselves to all the stonework to

0:16:33 > 0:16:36build all these houses and gardens and everything else. Not recently.

0:16:36 > 0:16:40We're talking about over the last 400-500 years. It's beautiful.

0:16:40 > 0:16:43'We're trying to make the most of not only the garden

0:16:43 > 0:16:47'but the surrounding views, so a little bit of surgery is required.'

0:16:47 > 0:16:50The plan here is to take out all of the tree line along here

0:16:50 > 0:16:53because there's a field of horses in the background here, which is

0:16:53 > 0:16:57a much lovelier thing for Noah to look at rather than just

0:16:57 > 0:17:00a hedgerow. So if we chop it back, they'll get a better view

0:17:00 > 0:17:03and a nicer garden to sit in during the summer.

0:17:03 > 0:17:07'And, to make the most of that view, we're putting

0:17:07 > 0:17:09'a window into the kitchen wall, although it's such

0:17:09 > 0:17:13'a bag of old biscuits, I'm worried it's going to fall down.'

0:17:13 > 0:17:14Nice.

0:17:14 > 0:17:17'We're still scratching our heads about what to do to sort out this

0:17:17 > 0:17:21'lift shaft situation so Russell, the building inspector, is happy.

0:17:21 > 0:17:24'Time for some bold creative flair.'

0:17:24 > 0:17:28- We've got a steel here which we'd like not to move.- Yes.

0:17:28 > 0:17:30And we have a stairwell and lift to get in, so my view is,

0:17:30 > 0:17:33because the stairwell is narrower, we take the stairwell up,

0:17:33 > 0:17:36the bottom of the stairwell up here and...

0:17:36 > 0:17:38- Oh, no...- ..Then we turn left, and we take that bit of wall out.

0:17:38 > 0:17:40Why don't we, cos that is probably strong enough?

0:17:40 > 0:17:43If we put a wall in from here, a supporting stud into here,

0:17:43 > 0:17:46cos we're putting some stairs here anyway.

0:17:46 > 0:17:48But you can't run it to here, Charlie.

0:17:48 > 0:17:50Yeah, but then the point is, if you put a wall to here,

0:17:50 > 0:17:53suddenly that beam is spanning, half of what it's doing,

0:17:53 > 0:17:55something about an eighth-less load or whatever it is,

0:17:55 > 0:17:57a quarter of the load, and suddenly it will be strong enough.

0:17:57 > 0:18:00That's a rubbish idea, the building inspector will never go for that!

0:18:00 > 0:18:02What about this, what about this?

0:18:02 > 0:18:05Structural stud wall half the span of this beam, and suddenly it's strong enough?

0:18:05 > 0:18:07Yeah, fine.

0:18:07 > 0:18:11'I knew he'd go for it. I hate it when Charlie's right.

0:18:11 > 0:18:14'But up in the loft, where the girls will have their new bedrooms,

0:18:14 > 0:18:15'he's definitely messed up.'

0:18:15 > 0:18:19Can you see how dark it is in here? It's ridiculously dark.

0:18:19 > 0:18:21'And, having lost the last argument, I'm going to make

0:18:21 > 0:18:23'the most of this. Charlie has now started to rip out perfectly

0:18:23 > 0:18:26'good-looking plaster. Chris will not be happy.

0:18:26 > 0:18:28'What kind of eco madness is this?'

0:18:30 > 0:18:32Hang on a second, guys, just hold for a second.

0:18:32 > 0:18:34They've taken all the plasterboard, haven't they?

0:18:34 > 0:18:37Well, that's the problem, all these houses done in the '80s,

0:18:37 > 0:18:39they look all fine, they've all got nice plaster,

0:18:39 > 0:18:41but it's just not warm enough, so it's all got to be re-done.

0:18:41 > 0:18:43- Right.- Not enough insulation behind.

0:18:43 > 0:18:46You've sort of become Captain Insulation,

0:18:46 > 0:18:49- it's normally him doing this. - No, I'm with him all the way on this one, mate.

0:18:49 > 0:18:53You used to take the Michael out of him for all his thermal thingy whatsits.

0:18:53 > 0:18:55Never, never a cross word said against Charlie Luxton.

0:18:55 > 0:18:59Mate, it's a no-brainer, ain't it? The more insulation you put in,

0:18:59 > 0:19:01the less energy, the less heat you have to put into the property

0:19:01 > 0:19:03keeps your fuel costs down.

0:19:03 > 0:19:06Yes, but you're now taking down all the stuff that's already plastered...

0:19:06 > 0:19:09They're professionals, they'll knock it through in no time!

0:19:09 > 0:19:13- They'll eat it.- You're going to have all this done and thermally insulated and cleared out?

0:19:13 > 0:19:15As long as we don't get in the way, basically.

0:19:15 > 0:19:18Well, you can't talk enough about insulation, could you?

0:19:18 > 0:19:20The hours just fly by(!)

0:19:20 > 0:19:23You see, what it's all about, the more you put in...

0:19:23 > 0:19:25'No, you CAN talk too much about insulation,

0:19:25 > 0:19:27'and I've already had enough.

0:19:27 > 0:19:29'But there is a determination to make this work,

0:19:29 > 0:19:32'and it's for a little boy who's pretty determined himself.

0:19:32 > 0:19:35'When physio, Jo, first met Noah a year ago,

0:19:35 > 0:19:39'he could barely hold his head up. After intense work from Jo

0:19:39 > 0:19:43'and his parents, Noah's potential has far exceeded what anyone thought

0:19:43 > 0:19:48'was possible when they discovered he only had 2% of his brain.

0:19:48 > 0:19:50'It's really quite incredible.'

0:19:52 > 0:19:54And he obviously loves his swimming.

0:19:54 > 0:19:58Did we kiss the fishy? He loves it, yeah.

0:19:58 > 0:20:01Considering the prognosis and the fact they said so little of

0:20:01 > 0:20:05his brain was active, that he seems like a perfectly normal boy, up

0:20:05 > 0:20:09to speed with any other kid of his age, it's extraordinary, isn't it?

0:20:09 > 0:20:13His first scan was... yeah, wasn't very good.

0:20:13 > 0:20:15- Catastrophic, really, wasn't it? - It was.

0:20:15 > 0:20:18He seems entirely with it and awake

0:20:18 > 0:20:22- and aware and engaging and sings and communicates and...- Absolutely.

0:20:22 > 0:20:24Yeah, he does. He smiles and then

0:20:24 > 0:20:27everybody's with him, aren't they, really? He's just lovely.

0:20:27 > 0:20:30- Aren't you?- There he is, exactly on cue, very well done.

0:20:30 > 0:20:33How suited to his development was life at home?

0:20:34 > 0:20:39It was getting more difficult cos as he develops, his needs increase.

0:20:39 > 0:20:43Noah's now, he's just beginning to explore a little bit,

0:20:43 > 0:20:46he's just getting a bit of independent mobility

0:20:46 > 0:20:50with his rolling and pulling himself along,

0:20:50 > 0:20:56so very soon that was going to be impossible in the house as it was.

0:20:56 > 0:20:59Do you have a wish list for the house, what would be ideal for Noah?

0:20:59 > 0:21:01A house that's completely geared

0:21:01 > 0:21:07so he can independently get himself around, so he can access everything

0:21:07 > 0:21:10that any other child of his age would need to.

0:21:11 > 0:21:15So if we give him flat floors throughout, a lift between floors,

0:21:15 > 0:21:19how much does that make a difference to Noah going forward?

0:21:19 > 0:21:20A huge, a huge amount.

0:21:20 > 0:21:24If those things weren't done now, then he would be stuck.

0:21:24 > 0:21:27You seem entirely at home in the water,

0:21:27 > 0:21:30but then with a name like Noah, you ought to be, really, I suppose.

0:21:30 > 0:21:32You should be, shouldn't you? You should be.

0:21:32 > 0:21:35'So we know what Noah needs -

0:21:35 > 0:21:40'safe space to develop and continue confounding expectations.'

0:21:40 > 0:21:42And with all these wonderful blokes to help,

0:21:42 > 0:21:44we're leaving no stone unturned.

0:21:46 > 0:21:48It might seem like a lot of effort,

0:21:48 > 0:21:50but everybody wants to go the extra mile for Noah,

0:21:50 > 0:21:53and for one of our boys, this is personal.

0:21:54 > 0:21:57Bill, you love at the beginning when you get a chance to meet the family.

0:21:57 > 0:21:59What did you make of them this time round?

0:21:59 > 0:22:01I was very surprised, I was very surprised

0:22:01 > 0:22:06because I know about spina biferous children, and I know about...

0:22:06 > 0:22:09Well, my niece had a funeral for her spina bifida baby

0:22:09 > 0:22:10because it was so bad,

0:22:10 > 0:22:14and I was worried and thought, "Oh, this baby is going to be just..."

0:22:14 > 0:22:17- Struggling a lot. - A lot, really bad,

0:22:17 > 0:22:21I thought, "Is it worth it when she had the chance to lose it?"

0:22:21 > 0:22:23But when I met little Noah,

0:22:23 > 0:22:25I thought, "Yeah, I can see why she fought..."

0:22:30 > 0:22:34..why she fought and said to the doctors, "I want my baby,"

0:22:34 > 0:22:38cos he's absolutely bonny, and he's responded to everything.

0:22:38 > 0:22:41You're going to be a mess when we show this off, aren't you?

0:22:41 > 0:22:45- You're going to be in bits. - It's, erm...

0:22:45 > 0:22:47Well, that's what we're here for, ain't it?

0:22:47 > 0:22:50That's what we're here for, to help people who really need us.

0:22:53 > 0:22:55We're all starting to realise

0:22:55 > 0:22:58how much Noah and his family have struggled in this house.

0:22:58 > 0:23:02It does kind of break your heart a little, you know,

0:23:02 > 0:23:05to see...I don't know, people in that situation.

0:23:05 > 0:23:08Well, I've got four kids and they're all healthy

0:23:08 > 0:23:11so I couldn't imagine how they've lived in this with a disabled child,

0:23:11 > 0:23:14so must be very, very difficult.

0:23:14 > 0:23:18And there's a lot of guys here who know how tough it is to be a dad

0:23:18 > 0:23:21when you can't give your family what they need.

0:23:21 > 0:23:24I get quite emotional trying to understand

0:23:24 > 0:23:25what this guy has gone through,

0:23:25 > 0:23:28and you don't get your time back with your children,

0:23:28 > 0:23:31so for him to be stuck in here trying to do it all himself,

0:23:31 > 0:23:34I don't think you can quite imagine what it must be like.

0:23:36 > 0:23:39These magnificent builders have worked like Trojans today,

0:23:39 > 0:23:42and the progress that's been made is astounding.

0:23:44 > 0:23:48Charlie Luxton's still deeply in conversation about insulation,

0:23:48 > 0:23:50lots of insulation already in,

0:23:50 > 0:23:52new stud work, electric's in.

0:23:53 > 0:23:55Considerable changes here, obviously,

0:23:55 > 0:23:58with the old staircase coming out, the wall taken down,

0:23:58 > 0:24:00change in the doorway there.

0:24:00 > 0:24:03Window turned into a door, door turned into a window,

0:24:03 > 0:24:05all this room has been sorted out,

0:24:05 > 0:24:07and we have this lovely picture window

0:24:07 > 0:24:08now looking out into the garden.

0:24:08 > 0:24:11So, 350 man hours we've put in today.

0:24:11 > 0:24:13All the major structural stuff's done.

0:24:13 > 0:24:15Two days' worth of materials gobbled up today.

0:24:15 > 0:24:17- Problems found.- Problems solved.

0:24:17 > 0:24:19And we've even now got a garden and a view

0:24:19 > 0:24:23onto ponies frolicking in the field. What more could you want?

0:24:23 > 0:24:24Good to finish the day on a high,

0:24:24 > 0:24:27especially when you start the next day on a low.

0:24:29 > 0:24:30No, not Mark's dancing.

0:24:32 > 0:24:34- Don't panic!- Who was panicking?

0:24:34 > 0:24:37We've got the scaffolders turned up this morning,

0:24:37 > 0:24:39where one of the windows is going to come out,

0:24:39 > 0:24:40the wall's all collapsing,

0:24:40 > 0:24:43so this man here is going to build some scaffolding for us,

0:24:43 > 0:24:45so we can support the whole building.

0:24:45 > 0:24:47Aye, we'll build a 30-foot hold on the other side

0:24:47 > 0:24:50then we'll beam onto the roof - well, not touch the roof,

0:24:50 > 0:24:52but beam over them to get the extent of the window over for you.

0:24:52 > 0:24:54- Grand.- All right, pal?

0:24:54 > 0:24:56Absolutely brilliant. Thanks, mate, for your help.

0:24:56 > 0:25:00That was last-minute. He just popped in at the last minute and sorted the whole thing out.

0:25:00 > 0:25:03That window up there has to go from there to there

0:25:03 > 0:25:05and then like that, OK?

0:25:05 > 0:25:08And the reason why, it's not design, it's for practicality,

0:25:08 > 0:25:12because inside the bathroom, the bath is going to rise up and down,

0:25:12 > 0:25:13so we've had to move the window

0:25:13 > 0:25:16because the bath would have come up past the window.

0:25:18 > 0:25:21There's also going to be a hoist system to be able to move him across

0:25:21 > 0:25:22the bathroom and set him down,

0:25:22 > 0:25:25changing mat, just, life is going to get a little bit...

0:25:25 > 0:25:28All this is to make their life a wee bit easier.

0:25:29 > 0:25:31More than a wee bit easier -

0:25:31 > 0:25:35it means Noah gets to have independence in his home.

0:25:35 > 0:25:37Charlie's other big improvement for the family

0:25:37 > 0:25:39is keeping the house warm.

0:25:39 > 0:25:41The winter nights must just fly by for his wife.

0:25:41 > 0:25:46Anyway, he's got himself a disciple. Meet Thermo Fred.

0:25:46 > 0:25:48So what sort of, erm, insulation is this?

0:25:48 > 0:25:51K18. Yes, this goes over the studs

0:25:51 > 0:25:53to stop the split between your insulation.

0:25:53 > 0:25:56- Why do you have that?- It bridges timbers cos it's a cold spot.

0:25:56 > 0:25:58- Is that right?- Yeah.

0:25:58 > 0:26:01Fred, Fred! Stops you repeating thermal bridges.

0:26:01 > 0:26:04And it also stops you repeating thermal fridges.

0:26:04 > 0:26:08- Yeah. You've got to take it seriously if you're going to do it.- Oh, yeah.

0:26:08 > 0:26:10'I'm finding this very odd.'

0:26:13 > 0:26:14Hang on, what's he doing up here?

0:26:14 > 0:26:17Coming to join in with the saving of the planet.

0:26:17 > 0:26:20- How is it going with the saving of the planet?- It's going very well.

0:26:20 > 0:26:22There's a lot of, a lot of insulation.

0:26:22 > 0:26:24It's like being in a space shuttle.

0:26:24 > 0:26:27I've never, there's half a lorry load of insulation

0:26:27 > 0:26:30gone into this lot, seriously.

0:26:30 > 0:26:32I think your love for insulation is waning.

0:26:32 > 0:26:35- It started out very...- No, no!- How many different types of insulation

0:26:35 > 0:26:37are we using in the building?

0:26:37 > 0:26:39We're using a sheet material at 75 mil,

0:26:39 > 0:26:41a sheet material at 100 mil,

0:26:41 > 0:26:43a sheet material at 40 mil,

0:26:43 > 0:26:44insulated plasterboard,

0:26:44 > 0:26:47two different types of rolled insulation...

0:26:47 > 0:26:50- Three different types of rolled. - Three different types

0:26:50 > 0:26:53- of rolled insulation...- And the multi-foil, and the multi-foil.

0:26:53 > 0:26:57- Four!- No, and I've just ordered some space therm for behind the pipework

0:26:57 > 0:26:59- in the kitchen.- No! No!

0:26:59 > 0:27:03- Why not?- Because it's really, really expensive, it's £90 a sheet.

0:27:03 > 0:27:05Just lag the pipes.

0:27:05 > 0:27:07We're getting about a third of a sheet.

0:27:07 > 0:27:08But who can afford that?

0:27:08 > 0:27:12This is my ongoing problem with the whole saving-the-planet stuff,

0:27:12 > 0:27:17right, seriously, only rich people can afford to cut their costs

0:27:17 > 0:27:20by putting all the expensive insulation in.

0:27:20 > 0:27:22- Lag it!- Lag it with cheap stuff! - Lag it.

0:27:22 > 0:27:24What happened to Thermo Fred?

0:27:24 > 0:27:25No, I'm with you!

0:27:25 > 0:27:26LAUGHTER

0:27:26 > 0:27:28I'm there. Mate, I'm there.

0:27:28 > 0:27:30You're on the wrong side of the fence at the moment.

0:27:30 > 0:27:33Look, I agree with you it's a good idea to save money

0:27:33 > 0:27:36by insulating your place and saving fuel and saving the planet,

0:27:36 > 0:27:38- but nobody can afford it. - Can I just make a point?

0:27:38 > 0:27:40Can I just say, can I just say...

0:27:40 > 0:27:42We're not paying for it, it's been donated.

0:27:42 > 0:27:44Yeah, but that's not the point.

0:27:44 > 0:27:46Because you need to follow what we do,

0:27:46 > 0:27:49and we're encouraging you to do stuff, and can you afford it?

0:27:49 > 0:27:50The answer is no.

0:27:50 > 0:27:53Only rich people can afford to cut their bills.

0:27:53 > 0:27:54Hear, hear!

0:27:54 > 0:27:57Thank you! That's from a builder over in the corner, "Hear, hear"!

0:27:57 > 0:28:00- What do you reckon?- Fair comment, yes.- What do you reckon?

0:28:00 > 0:28:03- Aye...- He's just come for the lunch, so...- Yeah, yeah.

0:28:03 > 0:28:05LAUGHTER

0:28:05 > 0:28:08The problem is, right, the whole thing is a mess,

0:28:08 > 0:28:11and the people that are going to sort it out are going to be builders

0:28:11 > 0:28:14understanding it, builders getting better, builders really knowing

0:28:14 > 0:28:17what they're doing, like these guys here, they're doing a fantastic job

0:28:17 > 0:28:20insulating all through here, an amazing job, and they understand it.

0:28:20 > 0:28:23You're the dinosaur now, Nick. That's the problem, mate.

0:28:23 > 0:28:25APPLAUSE

0:28:25 > 0:28:26Well put, Charlie.

0:28:26 > 0:28:29Thanks, but I need to, I need to lie down now.

0:28:31 > 0:28:33Charlie Luxton for president.

0:28:33 > 0:28:36Dinosaur, what did he mean by that, dinosaur?

0:28:36 > 0:28:39His heart is in the right place, though. It's insulated, too.

0:28:39 > 0:28:41This house needs that kind of TLC.

0:28:43 > 0:28:47Getting Noah back into a really warm environment is important,

0:28:47 > 0:28:49but not just for Noah.

0:28:49 > 0:28:52She hides it well, but Michelle is also disabled.

0:28:52 > 0:28:55She's struggled with lifelong painful arthritis

0:28:55 > 0:28:57which makes looking after Noah...

0:28:57 > 0:29:00That hurt.

0:29:00 > 0:29:01..even more difficult.

0:29:03 > 0:29:07I've got arthritis in my left hip, both ankles.

0:29:07 > 0:29:10That's got a replacement elbow in there,

0:29:10 > 0:29:13and I've had three knee replacements as well.

0:29:13 > 0:29:16Steph and Ali do everything they can to help.

0:29:17 > 0:29:20The support from the girls has been incredible.

0:29:20 > 0:29:22I couldn't wish for better.

0:29:23 > 0:29:27But day-to-day tasks with Noah in a house as bad as this...

0:29:27 > 0:29:28Ow!

0:29:28 > 0:29:31..are increasingly difficult.

0:29:31 > 0:29:33She doesn't complain about her pain,

0:29:33 > 0:29:36but a lot of the time you can see she's in pain, and you can see

0:29:36 > 0:29:38she does limp more on certain days.

0:29:38 > 0:29:41She's got a bad limp cos she's got the new knee in there,

0:29:41 > 0:29:45and it's not going to get any better,

0:29:45 > 0:29:48so she may well end up in a wheelchair herself.

0:29:48 > 0:29:50But there's always that thing in the back of your mind,

0:29:50 > 0:29:53well, what about the future?

0:29:54 > 0:29:58Someone who knows that well is family friend Tara.

0:29:58 > 0:30:00I've got arthritis too and I don't know how she does it.

0:30:00 > 0:30:03I mean, I struggle to lift my little girl.

0:30:03 > 0:30:05Thankfully, my little girl can walk and Noah can't.

0:30:05 > 0:30:07Well, there's that as well, isn't it?

0:30:07 > 0:30:09But with us doing all this work, what difference do you think

0:30:09 > 0:30:12it will make for their lives going forward and for the future?

0:30:12 > 0:30:15This is their future. They need this house for Noah,

0:30:15 > 0:30:18because they don't know what he's going to need when he's older,

0:30:18 > 0:30:20and it makes me really, really emotional,

0:30:20 > 0:30:23because this cannot happen to a nicer family.

0:30:23 > 0:30:27And I'm not allowed to paint so I thought I'd bring cake.

0:30:27 > 0:30:30- Oh, that's lovely, thank you.- Sorry.

0:30:30 > 0:30:31It all helps. No, it all helps.

0:30:31 > 0:30:34Tara didn't only bring treats, though.

0:30:34 > 0:30:37She also brought the sunshine.

0:30:38 > 0:30:39How's your thermal levels doing?

0:30:39 > 0:30:42Oh, mate, everyone's up there naked, it's that hot.

0:30:42 > 0:30:44Yeah, let's not see that.

0:30:44 > 0:30:45Though not these guys,

0:30:45 > 0:30:48they're helping to bring the sunshine inside.

0:30:49 > 0:30:52What a difference that makes, look at that.

0:30:52 > 0:30:55And we're going to have another one over there.

0:30:56 > 0:30:59Ah, there's something about the sunshine that's sent

0:30:59 > 0:31:02everyone into a silly mood of loveliness.

0:31:05 > 0:31:07One, two, three, hup!

0:31:11 > 0:31:13Could do with that, couldn't I?

0:31:16 > 0:31:18Can you see anything?

0:31:18 > 0:31:20I can, yeah.

0:31:28 > 0:31:29Whoo!

0:31:29 > 0:31:32There's a lot of love in the room, a little bit too much for my liking,

0:31:32 > 0:31:35but there is still work going on. Inside, Jules has got on top

0:31:35 > 0:31:40of that lift shaft that was causing us so many headaches yesterday.

0:31:40 > 0:31:43Above it is where the new bathroom will be,

0:31:43 > 0:31:46and the good news is that the new window is in,

0:31:46 > 0:31:47so everything else is bad news.

0:31:47 > 0:31:50So, what, there's a difference of about three inches in the floor?

0:31:50 > 0:31:52This side's higher, that side's lower.

0:31:52 > 0:31:55Three inches?

0:31:55 > 0:31:57The boys have got to rip all this floor out to try

0:31:57 > 0:32:02and get it level, cos we're putting a semi-wet room up here,

0:32:02 > 0:32:04so we've got to get the floor as level as possible, cos we don't want

0:32:04 > 0:32:08a big puddle in the corner. There's three inches difference in the floor.

0:32:08 > 0:32:10You've had your work cut out, this room, haven't you?

0:32:10 > 0:32:12It's been a nightmare from start to finish, this room.

0:32:12 > 0:32:14First it started as a window,

0:32:14 > 0:32:18then we dropped the ceiling cos the joists were running the wrong way.

0:32:18 > 0:32:20So they were running the wrong way,

0:32:20 > 0:32:22cos we had to get these big joists here in.

0:32:22 > 0:32:24- To take the hoist. - To take the hoist in.

0:32:24 > 0:32:27So this joist and that one means that the hoist can run

0:32:27 > 0:32:29across the room to the bath.

0:32:29 > 0:32:31Yes. So the floor is next, it's plaster boarding.

0:32:33 > 0:32:35- Plasterers are in tomorrow.- Are they?

0:32:35 > 0:32:37- Yeah.- Nice

0:32:37 > 0:32:39Good. Well done. Keep smiling.

0:32:39 > 0:32:40I'm trying.

0:32:42 > 0:32:44Downstairs, Charlie's ignored all my advice

0:32:44 > 0:32:47and put in that fancy insulation behind the pipework.

0:32:47 > 0:32:48Nick was having a go at me

0:32:48 > 0:32:51saying what are you getting this in for, that's a waste of time,

0:32:51 > 0:32:53but this is the most important bit to lag, isn't it?

0:32:53 > 0:32:56Anything that's on an external wall, that's not on a cavity wall,

0:32:56 > 0:33:00there's no insulation in between the two.

0:33:00 > 0:33:03So getting it in behind that pipework is absolutely spot on.

0:33:03 > 0:33:05Plainly, you cannot get enough insulation.

0:33:05 > 0:33:08Yes, but it's still too expensive.

0:33:08 > 0:33:11With this new heating system, though, the family won't have

0:33:11 > 0:33:14to scavenge wood and freeze in the winter any more.

0:33:14 > 0:33:17But we're also giving them wood burning fires

0:33:17 > 0:33:21and Charlie is concerned about exactly what's going

0:33:21 > 0:33:22to go up in smoke.

0:33:22 > 0:33:24So this is your parents' house?

0:33:24 > 0:33:26This is my mum and dad's house, I was born here.

0:33:26 > 0:33:28- Brought up here.- Yep.

0:33:28 > 0:33:30- Wow.- 48 years ago.

0:33:30 > 0:33:33- OK, family home.- Yeah, family home.

0:33:33 > 0:33:35So where's the wood? Round the back, is it?

0:33:35 > 0:33:37- Yeah, down in the back garden. - Let's have a look.

0:33:37 > 0:33:40Now the big problem with open fires is they're just,

0:33:40 > 0:33:41A, they're so inefficient.

0:33:41 > 0:33:45They're sort of 15-20%, something like that efficient,

0:33:45 > 0:33:47and then you've got a great big hole,

0:33:47 > 0:33:49and when it's not got smoke going up it,

0:33:49 > 0:33:51it's got all the hot air of the house.

0:33:51 > 0:33:53Stripping all the air out of the house, yeah.

0:33:53 > 0:33:55But a lot of this doesn't look like great burning wood, does it?

0:33:55 > 0:33:59I mean, this has got varnish on it. Are you burning all of it?

0:33:59 > 0:34:00Yeah, it will all get burnt.

0:34:00 > 0:34:03Anything with paint or varnish on, we've got an open fire

0:34:03 > 0:34:06so we burn it on there. Wood burners, the metal pipes

0:34:06 > 0:34:09really get messed up with all the treated stuff,

0:34:09 > 0:34:14so anything without treatment on, we'll burn on the wood burners.

0:34:14 > 0:34:17But if you're burning this on an open fire, you know,

0:34:17 > 0:34:20some of the fumes is going into the house.

0:34:20 > 0:34:22- Yeah.- That's not great, is it?

0:34:22 > 0:34:25No, it's not. It's needs must at the moment.

0:34:25 > 0:34:28You don't really feel you have an option other than to burn that?

0:34:28 > 0:34:30No, you do what you've got to do.

0:34:31 > 0:34:34Heat is the main thing for us at the moment.

0:34:34 > 0:34:36If there was a way of making it easier or better,

0:34:36 > 0:34:38it would be very much appreciated.

0:34:38 > 0:34:42I tell you what, I'd be really happy if we could do this for you

0:34:42 > 0:34:45and you don't burn anything with paint.

0:34:45 > 0:34:46You only burn virgin wood.

0:34:46 > 0:34:50That would be a deal I'd really like to make with you.

0:34:50 > 0:34:51Well, I'll make that deal.

0:34:51 > 0:34:54OK, we get a warm house, you only burn untreated wood.

0:34:54 > 0:34:55Brilliant.

0:34:57 > 0:34:59But that's not the easiest promise to keep.

0:34:59 > 0:35:02We're over halfway through the build

0:35:02 > 0:35:04and there's an enormous amount to do.

0:35:04 > 0:35:06Tomorrow is going to be crunch day.

0:35:12 > 0:35:15Morning! Beautiful, sunshiny day in Cumbria.

0:35:15 > 0:35:17We're loving being here and it's plastering day.

0:35:17 > 0:35:19This weather is absolutely ideal for it,

0:35:19 > 0:35:21but how many plasterers will turn up?

0:35:21 > 0:35:22Well, there's an easy answer to that.

0:35:22 > 0:35:25There's a swarm of them, or is it a spread?

0:35:25 > 0:35:30We've got about 16 plasterers and not enough area for them ready,

0:35:30 > 0:35:34so I need to run around today and feed plasterboard

0:35:34 > 0:35:35for the guys to plaster.

0:35:35 > 0:35:37Brilliant.

0:35:37 > 0:35:40We thought we were going to have a nice little easy day today,

0:35:40 > 0:35:45didn't we, Tone, but all of a sudden, the plasterers have turned up

0:35:45 > 0:35:46and it's mayhem.

0:35:46 > 0:35:49Yep, they've started at the top of the house in the lofts

0:35:49 > 0:35:51and are headed downwards fast,

0:35:51 > 0:35:54straight towards the choke point in the build.

0:35:54 > 0:35:56Hive of activity here, this is the kitchen,

0:35:56 > 0:35:58and this has to be plastered this afternoon.

0:35:58 > 0:36:00Are we happy, boys?

0:36:00 > 0:36:01Yeah.

0:36:01 > 0:36:03Are we going to have it or what?

0:36:03 > 0:36:04Definitely.

0:36:04 > 0:36:06That's what we like to hear. Positivity.

0:36:06 > 0:36:09Outside, the weather is getting hotter, which means with all

0:36:09 > 0:36:11the insulation, inside is getting hotter too,

0:36:11 > 0:36:12but everyone's sticking to it.

0:36:12 > 0:36:15Everyone's staying there and getting on with the work.

0:36:15 > 0:36:16Well, almost everyone.

0:36:16 > 0:36:18Our little brother Charlie Luxton.

0:36:18 > 0:36:21Rumour has it that the reason you're out here

0:36:21 > 0:36:25is cos it's too warm in the house.

0:36:25 > 0:36:28It's not, it's cos I tried to get up the stairs, right?

0:36:28 > 0:36:30Yeah, and you couldn't get between the walls..

0:36:30 > 0:36:32- Stop stirring!- And you couldn't get between the walls

0:36:32 > 0:36:35- because there was so much... - Cos it was so hot,

0:36:35 > 0:36:37I couldn't break through the heat layer!

0:36:37 > 0:36:41Luckily, the Cumbrian tradesmen are made of stronger stuff.

0:36:43 > 0:36:47The very sweaty plasterers have made it all the way down to the kitchen.

0:36:47 > 0:36:50This is where we wanted to be, kitchen skimmed today,

0:36:50 > 0:36:51kitchen fitters in tomorrow.

0:36:54 > 0:36:57And despite the impressive heat and the bouncy music,

0:36:57 > 0:37:01the brilliant tradesmen of Cumbria have sweated their way through it.

0:37:01 > 0:37:02Good, innit?

0:37:02 > 0:37:05Excellent job, thank you very much, gentlemen.

0:37:05 > 0:37:07APPLAUSE

0:37:08 > 0:37:11It's a sunny weekend in the British countryside,

0:37:11 > 0:37:15yet we've got a building site full of trades working for free.

0:37:16 > 0:37:18The local community's come out in force here.

0:37:18 > 0:37:20Some of them turned up just for a couple of days

0:37:20 > 0:37:22and they've stayed the whole time. For me, that's just great.

0:37:22 > 0:37:26Salt of the earth, these people, and I'm very proud to be part of them.

0:37:27 > 0:37:29Do you know what, Mark? So are we all.

0:37:29 > 0:37:32You've got friends that you'll probably get for life now.

0:37:32 > 0:37:35It's not just about this here, it's about in the future

0:37:35 > 0:37:38for us lads and all. You know, if somebody needs a bit of something,

0:37:38 > 0:37:39we can say, "We can help you with that."

0:37:39 > 0:37:42It's a completely different vibe than any other site

0:37:42 > 0:37:43you'll ever work on.

0:37:43 > 0:37:45Oh, yes. The best building site we've been on.

0:37:45 > 0:37:48- Really?- Yeah, definitely.

0:37:48 > 0:37:51You think about doing your job for a completely different reason

0:37:51 > 0:37:55- than everyday work.- Yeah.

0:37:55 > 0:37:58Cos a lot of us, we knew there were problems,

0:37:58 > 0:38:01but you know, we didn't know how many problems they actually had,

0:38:01 > 0:38:03so the more that you get to know a little bit about the family,

0:38:03 > 0:38:06the more that you want to sort of get stuff done for them and that.

0:38:06 > 0:38:09People always say that there's no community left any more,

0:38:09 > 0:38:11but you only have to look around at what's going on here,

0:38:11 > 0:38:14and this will have been done by not us, but by you lot.

0:38:14 > 0:38:19This is her community coming together around her, and doing this.

0:38:19 > 0:38:21As the week's progressed,

0:38:21 > 0:38:24the pride in what I'm doing has become more apparent,

0:38:24 > 0:38:28because you know that you're going to make a difference to this family.

0:38:30 > 0:38:33And it's a family that's had a lot to deal with.

0:38:33 > 0:38:36As well as looking after Noah, Michelle spends a lot of time

0:38:36 > 0:38:39campaigning for spina bifida awareness,

0:38:39 > 0:38:42in the hope that other families don't have to face

0:38:42 > 0:38:43the same situation.

0:38:43 > 0:38:47It's clear she's carrying a huge weight on her shoulders.

0:38:49 > 0:38:53You're an incredibly driven person, aren't you, with Noah

0:38:53 > 0:38:56and with the charity work that you do. Why is that?

0:38:56 > 0:39:00Someone should have told me and they didn't.

0:39:01 > 0:39:03Told you what?

0:39:03 > 0:39:07That I should have taken folic acid three months before pregnancy

0:39:07 > 0:39:10and I could have reduced Noah's spina bifida by 72%.

0:39:10 > 0:39:12So you feel responsible?

0:39:14 > 0:39:17Yeah, I do. I feel really guilty that Noah is like that.

0:39:17 > 0:39:21But millions and millions and millions of people have been born

0:39:21 > 0:39:23before people knew about folic acid.

0:39:25 > 0:39:29I'm not saying that you're wrong, and if it's a fact, it's a fact,

0:39:29 > 0:39:30but it's not your fault.

0:39:30 > 0:39:36I won't ever get a chance to make it right...

0:39:36 > 0:39:41so then I've got to tell everyone every day.

0:39:44 > 0:39:47But there has to come a point where you have to stop blaming yourself,

0:39:47 > 0:39:50because it doesn't benefit in any way at all, does it?

0:39:50 > 0:39:54It will get easier. Time.

0:39:56 > 0:39:58You have the most beautiful boy.

0:39:58 > 0:40:00Thank you.

0:40:00 > 0:40:02But you do, don't you, and you know you do.

0:40:02 > 0:40:05He's gorgeous. I love him so much.

0:40:05 > 0:40:08Which is why he's doing so well.

0:40:09 > 0:40:13Well, I'll make you a deal then. We will hand you back a house

0:40:13 > 0:40:15that will have all the things you need to go forward

0:40:15 > 0:40:20and to give Noah every opportunity, if you'll stop blaming yourself

0:40:20 > 0:40:24for something that you couldn't have done anything about

0:40:24 > 0:40:27in the first place, cos you've got to stop doing that.

0:40:31 > 0:40:34It seems like a fair deal.

0:40:34 > 0:40:36Can I have a day off then?

0:40:42 > 0:40:45Having this house finished will hopefully let Michelle and Rob

0:40:45 > 0:40:48look forward to a brighter future with Noah.

0:40:49 > 0:40:53And it's a really good sign that the kitchen fitters have made it in.

0:40:55 > 0:40:58Even our Achilles heel is on the mend.

0:40:59 > 0:41:02We are in the bathroom,

0:41:02 > 0:41:05which has been probably the most difficult room in the house

0:41:05 > 0:41:08to complete. Boys have been in here, I won't tell you how long,

0:41:08 > 0:41:10but you're nearly on your way out now, aren't you?

0:41:10 > 0:41:13The doorway's there and I'm working that way.

0:41:13 > 0:41:16And good old Charlie, he's come up with a really simple solution

0:41:16 > 0:41:18to tile the bathroom really quickly.

0:41:19 > 0:41:21Thanks, Charlie!

0:41:22 > 0:41:24Yeah, good luck with that, mate!

0:41:24 > 0:41:25It's going to be a long night

0:41:25 > 0:41:29but this house is about to start looking like a home again.

0:41:39 > 0:41:41Morning!

0:41:41 > 0:41:43Hard to believe he's 64, isn't it?

0:41:45 > 0:41:48Where better to be than sitting here kicking my heels

0:41:48 > 0:41:50on a dry stone wall in Cumbria admiring the countryside,

0:41:50 > 0:41:52and pondering the fact that we can turn up to somewhere

0:41:52 > 0:41:56as rural as this, and sparsely populated, and stick our hands up

0:41:56 > 0:41:57and say, "Can anybody help us?"

0:41:57 > 0:42:01And 60 people turn up every day to perform a minor miracle

0:42:01 > 0:42:04and turn this house around for a very lovely family,

0:42:04 > 0:42:05and do you know what?

0:42:05 > 0:42:08I think we're in with a very good chance of pulling this one off.

0:42:10 > 0:42:13The thing that will turn this from a house into a home

0:42:13 > 0:42:15is a little splash of colour.

0:42:15 > 0:42:18I wonder what scheme the eco-warrior will go for?

0:42:18 > 0:42:19Yeah, green.

0:42:19 > 0:42:21Of course it's green, it's always green.

0:42:21 > 0:42:23Charlie, where are you? Charlie.

0:42:23 > 0:42:25- Here.- Charlie, where are you?

0:42:25 > 0:42:28I'm sorry, I lost you against the wall then.

0:42:30 > 0:42:33So this is the colour for the wall here, is it?

0:42:33 > 0:42:36Why can't we just, for once, just go for a like a proper out there...

0:42:36 > 0:42:37Ooh. That's loud, isn't it?

0:42:40 > 0:42:41It's a colour.

0:42:41 > 0:42:44Look at that hot pink.

0:42:44 > 0:42:46There's quite a lot of memories of this kitchen

0:42:46 > 0:42:48as being cold and inhospitable,

0:42:48 > 0:42:51so we're trying to move away from that as much as possible,

0:42:51 > 0:42:53so you've got the hot, warm red on this side,

0:42:53 > 0:42:55and if you actually look, these are warm greys.

0:42:55 > 0:42:58There's a little bit of pink and warm grey and all of the colour,

0:42:58 > 0:43:00so it does feel like a really nice, warm, inviting room.

0:43:00 > 0:43:03There's quite a feminine side to you, isn't there?

0:43:03 > 0:43:07You're in touch with your colours and your emotions and things.

0:43:07 > 0:43:09Are you a man who cries in a rom-com?

0:43:09 > 0:43:10Yeah, I do.

0:43:10 > 0:43:13And now you love him even more, don't you, ladies?

0:43:13 > 0:43:15And all the blokes are going, "What a wuss."

0:43:18 > 0:43:22We're sprinting to the finish now - well, wheezing towards the finish -

0:43:22 > 0:43:26and out the back our outstanding and creative garden designers

0:43:26 > 0:43:29have come up with an ingenious way to make the outside

0:43:29 > 0:43:31wheelchair friendly, too.

0:43:32 > 0:43:35- It's all-weather.. - It's artificial grass,

0:43:35 > 0:43:37and it's nice and soft for a little kid to go on.

0:43:37 > 0:43:40Do you get that sort of, if you fall on it, do you get those burns?

0:43:40 > 0:43:44You don't. You do on the short stuff, but on this you don't.

0:43:44 > 0:43:47- So Noah will be all right crawling round on this.- Yeah.

0:43:47 > 0:43:50- A few thousand plants over there as well.- Aye.

0:43:50 > 0:43:53And I hear you've gone off the colour of the shed.

0:43:53 > 0:43:55Yeah. A bit bright,

0:43:55 > 0:43:58so I think they're going to match it with the reveals on the windows.

0:43:58 > 0:44:01All these people that have volunteered to come and do the work,

0:44:01 > 0:44:03have come and done the work and then gone,

0:44:03 > 0:44:04"That's not good enough,"

0:44:04 > 0:44:06so they've asked us to get a different colour paint

0:44:06 > 0:44:09to do the reveals around the windows and to redo the shed.

0:44:09 > 0:44:11Yeah, so the reveals around the windows will match the shed,

0:44:11 > 0:44:14- just to try and link it in, it was just standing out...- Perfectionists.

0:44:14 > 0:44:17- Yep.- It's not just doing it and getting away with it, is it?

0:44:17 > 0:44:18No, you've got to do it right.

0:44:18 > 0:44:20You've got to do it right, cos at the end of the day,

0:44:20 > 0:44:21it's not our garden.

0:44:21 > 0:44:23These lot have got to live with it.

0:44:23 > 0:44:26We can walk away and not look at that, they have to live with it.

0:44:27 > 0:44:29It's a lovely thought, and they all go the extra mile.

0:44:29 > 0:44:32From the start, our aim has been to get this house warm.

0:44:32 > 0:44:34I think Charlie sorted that problem,

0:44:34 > 0:44:38and to give Noah and Michelle independence throughout the house.

0:44:40 > 0:44:44The lift is being wired up, the mechanical bath is here, and...

0:44:44 > 0:44:46Ta-da!

0:44:46 > 0:44:48Look at that.

0:44:48 > 0:44:51Now, see, the trick with this is,

0:44:51 > 0:44:54despite the massive weight that's being held by this,

0:44:54 > 0:44:58I can with one finger...

0:44:58 > 0:45:03Look, I can move him about, take him into the bathroom.

0:45:07 > 0:45:10And one thing we're really excited about

0:45:10 > 0:45:15is some cutting-edge technology for Noah's sensory playroom.

0:45:19 > 0:45:22Noah, when he's in here and playing on the floor,

0:45:22 > 0:45:24is able to interact with the floor

0:45:24 > 0:45:27and it will move and change as a result.

0:45:27 > 0:45:29Look, watch this, look.

0:45:29 > 0:45:31So we've got a swimming pool, look at that.

0:45:32 > 0:45:37In terms of child's development and the ability to play and engage,

0:45:37 > 0:45:40everything is possible. It's fantastic.

0:45:40 > 0:45:43And thanks to the hard work of a selfless local community

0:45:43 > 0:45:46of tradesmen, tradeswomen and suppliers, this is

0:45:46 > 0:45:51a stunning home purpose-built for Noah and his family.

0:45:53 > 0:45:56Nine days ago, this house was a crumbling wreck

0:45:56 > 0:45:58barely fit to live in.

0:45:59 > 0:46:02It was cold, dusty and making the family ill.

0:46:03 > 0:46:08For a little boy with a host of challenges, but a boundless spirit,

0:46:08 > 0:46:11it was seriously threatening his development.

0:46:11 > 0:46:15I just want to give him the best that I possibly can, and I can't.

0:46:16 > 0:46:18It's OK.

0:46:18 > 0:46:21It was one of the oldest houses we'd ever taken on

0:46:21 > 0:46:24and it threw up problem after painful problem.

0:46:24 > 0:46:27It's been a nightmare from start to finish, this room.

0:46:28 > 0:46:31But a remarkable team of trades...

0:46:34 > 0:46:37..buoyed by a pride in their community...

0:46:37 > 0:46:39We're all together for one reason, really.

0:46:39 > 0:46:42You know that you're going to make a difference to this family.

0:46:42 > 0:46:46..worked their socks off for a little boy in desperate need.

0:46:47 > 0:46:50And now this house is finally a home

0:46:50 > 0:46:53where Noah can live the life he deserves.

0:46:59 > 0:47:03The kitchen is now a bright and airy space, where the whole family

0:47:03 > 0:47:08can spend time together around the new handmade oak table.

0:47:13 > 0:47:16We've provided an ingenious snug area

0:47:16 > 0:47:19so Noah can play safely while his family are around him.

0:47:23 > 0:47:27The kitchen leads onto the new wheelchair friendly garden,

0:47:27 > 0:47:30with soft areas for Noah to play.

0:47:34 > 0:47:38And raised flower beds that Michelle and Noah will both be able to reach.

0:47:43 > 0:47:48The new sensory room is designed to make sure Noah has every tool

0:47:48 > 0:47:50he needs to flourish.

0:47:50 > 0:47:52From toys to aid him as he gets bigger,

0:47:52 > 0:47:55to cutting-edge interactive technology

0:47:55 > 0:47:58to encourage his continued development.

0:47:59 > 0:48:02Those rickety old stairs have been replaced.

0:48:03 > 0:48:06The new hi-tech lift means Noah and Michelle

0:48:06 > 0:48:10can have independence through the house.

0:48:10 > 0:48:13And it leads to the new fully accessible family bathroom.

0:48:18 > 0:48:21The girls both have their own grown-up rooms

0:48:21 > 0:48:26where they get a bit of luxury and space to be independent young women.

0:48:29 > 0:48:33Oh, and Noah's new bedroom is waiting for him when he's ready.

0:48:36 > 0:48:39This house is now a beautiful and functional home

0:48:39 > 0:48:42where the whole family can blossom together.

0:48:47 > 0:48:51If you're ready, open your eyes.

0:48:51 > 0:48:53Oh, my God.

0:48:55 > 0:48:56Wow.

0:48:56 > 0:48:58My God.

0:49:00 > 0:49:02Wow.

0:49:03 > 0:49:05I've lost all sense of where I am.

0:49:05 > 0:49:07Kitchen, darling.

0:49:07 > 0:49:09There's the beam, the old beam.

0:49:13 > 0:49:17All this for us.

0:49:17 > 0:49:18It's incredible.

0:49:22 > 0:49:24It's amazing.

0:49:27 > 0:49:30Not only do you have a window, you have a view.

0:49:32 > 0:49:36We'll be able to see the horses.

0:49:36 > 0:49:37Noah will love that.

0:49:39 > 0:49:43- It's absolutely beautiful. - It's amazing, it really is amazing.

0:49:43 > 0:49:47Handmade table made by a local craftsman, who specifically wanted

0:49:47 > 0:49:51to make you a table that your whole family can sit around for dinner.

0:49:51 > 0:49:56Christmas dinner in the kitchen at the table. That's all I wanted.

0:49:59 > 0:50:03Oh, that is gorgeous.

0:50:06 > 0:50:09I never have pictures up

0:50:09 > 0:50:13because we didn't have anywhere nice to put anything.

0:50:16 > 0:50:19If you come over this way, because it's all about...

0:50:19 > 0:50:20SHE GASPS

0:50:20 > 0:50:21..access, isn't it?

0:50:21 > 0:50:24And making the house accessible to everybody.

0:50:24 > 0:50:26Wow.

0:50:38 > 0:50:39Oh, they're amazing!

0:50:39 > 0:50:42Noah is going to love them.

0:50:46 > 0:50:47Oh, my.

0:50:49 > 0:50:50It's a full wet room.

0:50:50 > 0:50:53- It is.- Oh, no way.

0:50:57 > 0:51:00You obviously have a hoist.

0:51:00 > 0:51:03It's really easy, and there's different types of slings.

0:51:03 > 0:51:07You can get walk slings, carry slings, bathing slings.

0:51:07 > 0:51:09It's just perfect.

0:51:09 > 0:51:12Yeah, it's a standard bath, but if you want to give Noah a bath...

0:51:16 > 0:51:18..then that goes up all the way to the height

0:51:18 > 0:51:21- so you don't have to bend over. - That's unbelievable.

0:51:21 > 0:51:24It's incredible, isn't it?

0:51:24 > 0:51:27When you have a bath, if you can't be bothered to get out yourself,

0:51:27 > 0:51:28you just hoist yourself out of the bath.

0:51:28 > 0:51:30I can't get out of baths.

0:51:30 > 0:51:32You can't get out of baths? You can now.

0:51:33 > 0:51:36You can now, darling. You can have a proper bath now.

0:51:38 > 0:51:40It's not about me, it's about Noah.

0:51:40 > 0:51:44No, it is about you. You're the main carer for Noah

0:51:44 > 0:51:46so it is about you.

0:51:46 > 0:51:50I've never been in the bath with Noah. I'd love to sit in the bath.

0:51:51 > 0:51:55It seems simple, but it means a lot

0:51:55 > 0:51:59to just do things like other people do.

0:51:59 > 0:52:00Yeah.

0:52:03 > 0:52:07Oh, this is so beautiful.

0:52:12 > 0:52:14It's stunning.

0:52:15 > 0:52:17It's absolutely stunning.

0:52:17 > 0:52:19What you could do is you could come in here

0:52:19 > 0:52:21and we have a day bed alongside as well,

0:52:21 > 0:52:24so that one of you can stay in here or both stay in here and...

0:52:24 > 0:52:26- Yeah, it's beautiful. - Kind of important, really.

0:52:28 > 0:52:31I'll nip out and get Noah. There's one more important room

0:52:31 > 0:52:33I want to show you and it's back downstairs.

0:52:36 > 0:52:38What's that, Noah?

0:52:38 > 0:52:42Oh, my goodness. Oh, Noah, look.

0:52:42 > 0:52:45It's a sensory room and a playroom for Noah.

0:52:48 > 0:52:50Try and put him face down in the pond.

0:52:50 > 0:52:53Let's switch the lights out.

0:52:55 > 0:52:58There you go. Every movement he makes has a reaction.

0:52:58 > 0:52:59Oh, wow.

0:52:59 > 0:53:01What's that, Noah?

0:53:01 > 0:53:02Light.

0:53:02 > 0:53:04Light, good boy.

0:53:04 > 0:53:06And if he works hard enough...

0:53:10 > 0:53:13We have a little pod he can sit in.

0:53:14 > 0:53:17This track will also take you through that door there,

0:53:17 > 0:53:19would you like to have a look?

0:53:28 > 0:53:31It's one of the big things Michelle wanted was a toilet

0:53:31 > 0:53:33- downstairs for him so he could be... - Independent.

0:53:33 > 0:53:37Independent, so we don't have to rush up and downstairs with him.

0:53:38 > 0:53:41Do you like it, Noah? What do you think?

0:53:41 > 0:53:42- Good?- Yay!

0:53:44 > 0:53:47In the loft, daughters Steph and Ali

0:53:47 > 0:53:49have well deserved space of their own.

0:53:51 > 0:53:53In you go.

0:53:55 > 0:53:57It's gorgeous.

0:53:57 > 0:54:02Check it out. Handmade oak bed specifically made for you

0:54:02 > 0:54:04to fit into that space.

0:54:04 > 0:54:08New York skyline. You're a bit fond of New York, aren't you?

0:54:08 > 0:54:10I'm a bit of a fan.

0:54:12 > 0:54:13Oh, my God.

0:54:17 > 0:54:19Oh, my God.

0:54:21 > 0:54:25I can't believe it. This is amazing.

0:54:25 > 0:54:27Look at your view.

0:54:32 > 0:54:34I love it.

0:54:35 > 0:54:38It's a weight lifted off my shoulders,

0:54:38 > 0:54:42off everyone's shoulders, cos it's done,

0:54:42 > 0:54:45and there's no worrying.

0:54:45 > 0:54:47I'm crying.

0:54:48 > 0:54:52And do you know what? Downstairs the house is already

0:54:52 > 0:54:54making a huge difference to Noah.

0:54:56 > 0:55:00This is the first time he's ever moved himself independently.

0:55:00 > 0:55:01Where are you going?

0:55:03 > 0:55:05Keep going.

0:55:05 > 0:55:08That's it. Clever boy, what a clever boy.

0:55:23 > 0:55:25That is absolutely stunning.

0:55:25 > 0:55:28That's a whole new garden. You can see out into the horses

0:55:32 > 0:55:34And cos I know you like to do the gardening,

0:55:34 > 0:55:37that's why we've done it as raised beds so it's easy to get to.

0:55:37 > 0:55:39I can perch on there, it's a fab height.

0:55:39 > 0:55:41Wheelchair access as well for Noah.

0:55:41 > 0:55:43Oh, yeah, it's all accessible.

0:55:43 > 0:55:46That's the most important thing, you know, to be independent.

0:55:46 > 0:55:47It doesn't matter where.

0:55:47 > 0:55:49So nice to just come out in the garden and relax.

0:55:53 > 0:55:54Wow.

0:55:54 > 0:55:57So we made a couple of deals.

0:55:57 > 0:56:00What is it that you're going to do or stop doing?

0:56:00 > 0:56:02Beating myself up about it.

0:56:02 > 0:56:05Yeah. Promise?

0:56:05 > 0:56:06I promise.

0:56:06 > 0:56:07Or at least to start.

0:56:07 > 0:56:09Today. Start today.

0:56:09 > 0:56:12And you need to stop burning wood that's got paint on it.

0:56:12 > 0:56:14Yeah, that was the deal I made.
