0:00:03 > 0:00:06It breaks your heart that he's fighting this illness

0:00:06 > 0:00:08that he had no control over,

0:00:08 > 0:00:12but yet, in himself, he's still a lovely, bubbly little boy.

0:00:12 > 0:00:16But it only takes one really strong seizure,

0:00:16 > 0:00:17which could kill him.

0:00:17 > 0:00:22We're here to help a boy battling with a cruel condition.

0:00:22 > 0:00:29He doesn't have a day where he could just be like any other child.

0:00:29 > 0:00:33This family are struggling to give him as normal a life as possible

0:00:33 > 0:00:36in a house that doesn't serve their needs.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38The ground floor is no good for Brandon, there's all, like,

0:00:38 > 0:00:43sharp edges, he can bang his head and hurt himself quite dangerously.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45We're going to pull out all the stops to give them

0:00:45 > 0:00:49what they need, but will it be enough?

0:00:49 > 0:00:52Do you know what? I think this is the biggest mistake we've ever made,

0:00:52 > 0:00:55to find that the bed doesn't fit the room.

0:00:55 > 0:00:58We've got just nine days, but all the usual suspects are here

0:00:58 > 0:01:01including Naomi, our new designer, it's her first time.

0:01:01 > 0:01:03Of course, we need a small army to help out.

0:01:03 > 0:01:07Anybody who's prepared to help us out take one step forward!

0:01:07 > 0:01:10Anybody who is prepared to work with Billy, take two steps forward!

0:01:10 > 0:01:12Yeah, I'm afraid you've had it, Bill.

0:01:12 > 0:01:15This is DIY SOS - The Big Build!

0:01:15 > 0:01:17CHEERING

0:01:31 > 0:01:34Basildon, Essex, is home to Jenny and Steve

0:01:34 > 0:01:39and their three kids, five-month-old Rosie, Katie, who's five years old,

0:01:39 > 0:01:41and Brandon, who's nine.

0:01:42 > 0:01:47Steve and Jenny met seven years ago, when Brandon was just a toddler.

0:01:47 > 0:01:50Brandon's condition started, really,

0:01:50 > 0:01:53when he was about two-and-a-half months old.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55The pregnancy was normal, the birth was normal,

0:01:55 > 0:01:58and then, just one day, he was just holding his breath

0:01:58 > 0:02:03and rolling his eyes, and obviously that's not normal for a baby to do.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06This was a worrying time for Jenny,

0:02:06 > 0:02:09but a course of medication helped stabilise Brandon,

0:02:09 > 0:02:14and for a while they seemed to have his condition under control.

0:02:14 > 0:02:18About 19 months old he started dropping to the floor...

0:02:19 > 0:02:20..and, erm...

0:02:24 > 0:02:27he started dropping to the floor, and then they diagnosed him

0:02:27 > 0:02:32with epilepsy, and then he, like, he's got worse.

0:02:35 > 0:02:39Brandon has a very rare and severe form of epilepsy.

0:02:39 > 0:02:41It has no specific triggers

0:02:41 > 0:02:45and crippling seizures can come at any time, without warning.

0:02:45 > 0:02:50Sometimes with epilepsy, it can be sort of localised on the brain,

0:02:50 > 0:02:54but with Brandon's it is literally on spots all over the brain.

0:02:56 > 0:02:58So Brandon's having a seizure

0:02:58 > 0:03:03and his body can, like, jump, and with every seizure that Brandon has

0:03:03 > 0:03:07we don't know what it's going to lead into, so

0:03:07 > 0:03:14him being sick, his whole body shaking violently, but at any point

0:03:14 > 0:03:17it could end up with him needing his emergency medication.

0:03:19 > 0:03:23Brandon can have between 20 and 30 seizures a day,

0:03:23 > 0:03:26and despite trying various medication

0:03:26 > 0:03:29and even brain surgery, nothing has helped.

0:03:30 > 0:03:33We feel like the epilepsy has stolen him,

0:03:33 > 0:03:36just cos, there's not even, like, a let-up,

0:03:36 > 0:03:43he doesn't have a day where he could just be like any other child.

0:03:45 > 0:03:48With Steve at work all day, Jenny is under enormous pressure,

0:03:48 > 0:03:52dealing with Brandon and her other children.

0:03:52 > 0:03:54Juggling Rosie and Katie and Brandon together,

0:03:54 > 0:03:56when I'm on my own, it's really hard,

0:03:56 > 0:03:59because Brandon could stand on her or fall on her,

0:03:59 > 0:04:02I'm constantly having to watch to see if he's going to have a seizure.

0:04:05 > 0:04:06ROSIE GRIZZLES

0:04:06 > 0:04:09Not now he's started his seizure, I can't leave him completely,

0:04:09 > 0:04:11so I can't get Rosie's dummy.

0:04:11 > 0:04:12ROSIE CRIES

0:04:15 > 0:04:19Katie, she's a big help as well, and she has done from a young age.

0:04:19 > 0:04:24When Katie was three and even at two years old she knew how to deal with

0:04:24 > 0:04:28Brandon, and so she's just like another little mum.

0:04:28 > 0:04:31Brandon's mental age is like a six-month-old to one-year-old,

0:04:31 > 0:04:34but, like, obviously he's in a nine-year-old's body.

0:04:34 > 0:04:38He's got no spatial awareness, no sense of danger.

0:04:38 > 0:04:41The unpredictability of his seizures, coupled with

0:04:41 > 0:04:45his total lack of awareness, means that Brandon is a constant danger

0:04:45 > 0:04:48to himself and his sisters.

0:04:48 > 0:04:51The house is not safe for him, or practical for Jenny.

0:04:51 > 0:04:54Consequently, he spends most of his time on the sofa,

0:04:54 > 0:04:56or in a wheelchair.

0:04:56 > 0:05:00His condition's deteriorated a lot quicker than we were thinking

0:05:00 > 0:05:04it was going to, so it's now being a case that we have to adapt

0:05:04 > 0:05:06the property to try and meet his needs.

0:05:08 > 0:05:11He can bang his head and hurt himself quite dangerously.

0:05:11 > 0:05:14The ground floor is just sort of like no good for Brandon,

0:05:14 > 0:05:18there's all like sharp edges, just tripping over the slightest thing.

0:05:18 > 0:05:21Obviously, I can't let him out in the kitchen

0:05:21 > 0:05:23because it's just too dangerous for him.

0:05:25 > 0:05:28Brandon's seizures continue through the night,

0:05:28 > 0:05:31so Jenny or Steve take turns to sleep with him downstairs

0:05:31 > 0:05:34as he's too heavy to carry upstairs.

0:05:34 > 0:05:36Brandon used to be able to go to bed,

0:05:36 > 0:05:39and we could, like, leave him, but his seizures have got worse, so he

0:05:39 > 0:05:43now has to sleep downstairs on the sofa, and we have to sleep with him.

0:05:43 > 0:05:46Brandon's always with me or Steve, he's never without one of us.

0:05:46 > 0:05:48He can't be left.

0:05:51 > 0:05:54Jenny and Steve are utterly devoted parents,

0:05:54 > 0:05:56but they're struggling to cope in a house

0:05:56 > 0:06:00which is not suitable for dealing with Brandon's condition.

0:06:00 > 0:06:02They need a place where he can be safe,

0:06:02 > 0:06:05a place where this young family can grow

0:06:05 > 0:06:07and fight this terrible condition together.

0:06:07 > 0:06:09And that's why we're here.

0:06:11 > 0:06:12How do you keep going?

0:06:12 > 0:06:14- Time, just running. - Just have to, you know?

0:06:16 > 0:06:18We're his parents, there's no-one else.

0:06:18 > 0:06:20If we don't function, he don't function.

0:06:20 > 0:06:22Yeah, but like, 24 hours a day!

0:06:22 > 0:06:26It is really tiring but at the end of the day, Brandon,

0:06:26 > 0:06:30he can't help this, it's not his fault so that's what we just,

0:06:30 > 0:06:34you know, we have in our minds all the time it's not his fault

0:06:34 > 0:06:36and we're not going to leave him, we're his mum and dad

0:06:36 > 0:06:41and that's what we've got, so we carry on.

0:06:41 > 0:06:43It's just how best we can manage that

0:06:43 > 0:06:47and, you know, having you guys come in and actually do make a space

0:06:47 > 0:06:49will take so much pressure off us.

0:06:49 > 0:06:52You had enough already, Rosie?

0:06:52 > 0:06:54Time to go and do something else.

0:06:54 > 0:06:56Your contribution.

0:06:56 > 0:06:57Yeah?

0:06:57 > 0:06:58THEY LAUGH

0:07:00 > 0:07:01Everyone's a critic, aren't they?

0:07:01 > 0:07:04Once again, we have only nine days to complete this build,

0:07:04 > 0:07:05so let's get on with it.

0:07:07 > 0:07:09The Essex trades are out in force.

0:07:09 > 0:07:12Before we got here, a team of guys knocked down the old shed,

0:07:12 > 0:07:15put in the foundations and put up a scaffold, with a roof.

0:07:18 > 0:07:22Inside, it's a hive of activity with the boys in the middle of it all.

0:07:22 > 0:07:24Morning, gentlemen!

0:07:24 > 0:07:27Brains. We're the brains of the operation.

0:07:27 > 0:07:29Are you?

0:07:29 > 0:07:31You're the brains? YOU'RE the brains?

0:07:31 > 0:07:34- We're in deep trouble! - LAUGHTER

0:07:34 > 0:07:35Yes, we certainly are in deep trouble

0:07:35 > 0:07:37if they're the brains of the outfit!

0:07:37 > 0:07:40Now the real brains behind this build is our new designer,

0:07:40 > 0:07:42the award-winning Naomi Cleaver.

0:07:42 > 0:07:44Want to meet her?

0:07:44 > 0:07:49So come and see the joy that is a DIY SOS Big Build. A lot of people.

0:07:49 > 0:07:50It's quite intense, isn't it?

0:07:50 > 0:07:52Yes, it is, come and have a look!

0:07:52 > 0:07:53She has no idea.

0:07:53 > 0:07:57Over the last 20 years, she's been building and designing

0:07:57 > 0:07:59houses and holiday villas all over the world,

0:07:59 > 0:08:03but is she ready for a DIY SOS Big Build site?

0:08:03 > 0:08:06So the plan is presumably to open all this out, is it?

0:08:06 > 0:08:08Cos this was the kitchen and that was the dining room.

0:08:08 > 0:08:11One of the very interesting things about this project

0:08:11 > 0:08:13is we've got to open it all out, but then we also have to

0:08:13 > 0:08:15kind of close it up a bit as well,

0:08:15 > 0:08:19so it's getting a balance between letting Jenny keep an eye on Brandon

0:08:19 > 0:08:22but also protecting Brandon and enclosing him at the same time,

0:08:22 > 0:08:25so that is the theme of this whole project.

0:08:25 > 0:08:28She looks and sounds like a designer, doesn't she?

0:08:28 > 0:08:30Right, to achieve this balance,

0:08:30 > 0:08:32we're putting in a single-storey extension

0:08:32 > 0:08:35which will give this family more space,

0:08:35 > 0:08:37which they desperately need.

0:08:37 > 0:08:39This will become the new kitchen

0:08:39 > 0:08:40and a playroom.

0:08:40 > 0:08:42Half-height doors will enable

0:08:42 > 0:08:44Jenny to keep a close eye on Brandon

0:08:44 > 0:08:47at the same time as giving him a safe space to play.

0:08:49 > 0:08:51Leading from the kitchen will be

0:08:51 > 0:08:53the re-designed living room,

0:08:53 > 0:08:54again with half-height doors,

0:08:54 > 0:08:56separating the two rooms.

0:08:57 > 0:08:59We're also putting in a downstairs wet room

0:08:59 > 0:09:02and a bedroom for Brandon, so he can stop sleeping on the sofa

0:09:02 > 0:09:04and where Jenny and Steve can keep

0:09:04 > 0:09:06a constant watch over him.

0:09:07 > 0:09:09Upstairs, we're not touching

0:09:09 > 0:09:11the bathroom or the baby's room,

0:09:11 > 0:09:13and only decorating Katie's room

0:09:13 > 0:09:15and Jenny and Steve's bedroom.

0:09:15 > 0:09:18Other than that all we have to do is to change a few light fittings

0:09:18 > 0:09:21up here, but Billy assures me that shouldn't be too much work.

0:09:21 > 0:09:24- Today it's all about the extension and creating more space downstairs.

0:09:24 > 0:09:27We need to gut the inside, then take the back off the house

0:09:27 > 0:09:29and get the extension and roof up.

0:09:29 > 0:09:32It all needs to be done by tonight, the steels come tomorrow,

0:09:32 > 0:09:34and we've got a tight schedule to keep to.

0:09:34 > 0:09:37So this is a fairly tight squeeze, as you can see,

0:09:37 > 0:09:39getting these panels in, just enough room.

0:09:39 > 0:09:41I think one or two of the larger panels will be a bit more difficult.

0:09:44 > 0:09:47Fortunately, Jenny's neighbour has let us come through

0:09:47 > 0:09:50her back garden, and our access problem is solved.

0:09:50 > 0:09:52Give us a wave!

0:09:52 > 0:09:56Now that's really, really helpful, so thank you very much.

0:09:57 > 0:09:59She's a bit shy.

0:09:59 > 0:10:01Yeah, quick, to get inside away from you, I think!

0:10:01 > 0:10:03I love it when a plan comes together.

0:10:03 > 0:10:06Well, the local trades work so fast,

0:10:06 > 0:10:08I feel like I'm standing still.

0:10:08 > 0:10:09Well, I am, to be honest.

0:10:13 > 0:10:14Hoo-hoo! Nice trick, eh?

0:10:14 > 0:10:16All the trades are committed to helping this family,

0:10:16 > 0:10:18and Steve's best friend Stuart knows

0:10:18 > 0:10:21just how much of a difference it will make.

0:10:21 > 0:10:22- How long have you known Steve, then?

0:10:22 > 0:10:25I've known Steve for 21-22 years now.

0:10:25 > 0:10:27- Really?- So a long old time.

0:10:27 > 0:10:28He's some lad, ain't he?

0:10:28 > 0:10:31He would do anything for anyone and everyone.

0:10:31 > 0:10:34Most guys run a mile when they meet up with a woman

0:10:34 > 0:10:36and then find out she's got a kid.

0:10:36 > 0:10:40And to find out that she's got a kid and then he's got disabilities,

0:10:40 > 0:10:42nine out of ten of them would definitely run.

0:10:42 > 0:10:45He didn't, he stayed there through thick, thin,

0:10:45 > 0:10:48sleepless nights, hospitals, you name it.

0:10:48 > 0:10:50And he's fantastic with Brandon, isn't he?

0:10:50 > 0:10:52He is, he is.

0:10:52 > 0:10:53He absolutely besots over him,

0:10:53 > 0:10:57he would do anything for that boy, absolutely anything.

0:10:57 > 0:10:59So what do you make of this then now, 85 builders turned up,

0:10:59 > 0:11:02descended on their house with cameras and things?

0:11:02 > 0:11:04Yeah, Steve and Jen are really excited about it

0:11:04 > 0:11:07and obviously it will change their lives massively.

0:11:07 > 0:11:10Same with the kids, so Brandon, it will give him a new lease of life,

0:11:10 > 0:11:13it will give him a much bigger area to play in,

0:11:13 > 0:11:15a bedroom he can use properly.

0:11:15 > 0:11:18And then Katie, obviously, opens up space for her to play as well,

0:11:18 > 0:11:20so it will be really good for all of them.

0:11:21 > 0:11:23He explains the conundrum very well.

0:11:23 > 0:11:27Brandon's condition is so extreme and his needs so contradictory

0:11:27 > 0:11:31that making the house work for all of them is a huge design challenge.

0:11:32 > 0:11:33Brandon has no special awareness.

0:11:33 > 0:11:36You know, if the little girls were playing with Brandon,

0:11:36 > 0:11:37he would probably tread on them,

0:11:37 > 0:11:42so we have to create a space where he can play and be safe, and equally,

0:11:42 > 0:11:46where they can play and be safe, but we don't have that much space.

0:11:47 > 0:11:51So we are making it open-plan but then enclosing it again

0:11:51 > 0:11:55but enclosing it using chiefly half-height doors.

0:11:55 > 0:11:57Presumably because of his illness

0:11:57 > 0:11:59- and being sick quite a lot... - Yes.

0:11:59 > 0:12:01..presumably everything has to be cleanable,

0:12:01 > 0:12:03so you can't put soft furnishings in there.

0:12:03 > 0:12:05No soft furnishings.

0:12:05 > 0:12:07Well, soft furnishings that can be wiped clean,

0:12:07 > 0:12:10so we've found a couple of those, but mostly

0:12:10 > 0:12:11we've got to use vinyl, and ordinarily

0:12:11 > 0:12:14you'd think, "Vinyl, yuck!" But we've managed to find

0:12:14 > 0:12:17some really nice ones, so it's going to look gorgeous

0:12:17 > 0:12:19but it's got to be wipe-clean, which is quite a challenge.

0:12:19 > 0:12:23It's also got to be robust, so Brandon's not actually going to

0:12:23 > 0:12:27damage the space, but equally, he's not going to be damaged himself,

0:12:27 > 0:12:30so it's got to be strong but soft, hard but soft.

0:12:30 > 0:12:32Exciting or terrifying?

0:12:32 > 0:12:33Bit of both!

0:12:33 > 0:12:35As it always is.

0:12:35 > 0:12:37Naomi's got a lot to juggle with this design,

0:12:37 > 0:12:39and there's a lot of work to do downstairs.

0:12:39 > 0:12:43Thankfully we aren't doing any major work upstairs,

0:12:43 > 0:12:44only a little bit of decorating, I was told.

0:12:49 > 0:12:51What's going on? We're supposed to be

0:12:51 > 0:12:52not doing anything up here at all!

0:12:52 > 0:12:54Look at the state of the place! There's no floor left.

0:12:54 > 0:12:56Millar? Millar!

0:12:58 > 0:13:00Ah, the very man I was looking for.

0:13:00 > 0:13:02Ah, Mr Knowles.

0:13:02 > 0:13:04You said, "It's going to be an easy one, cos we're not

0:13:04 > 0:13:06- "touching upstairs at all." - No, we're not.

0:13:06 > 0:13:08It looks like a small nuclear weapon has gone off up there.

0:13:08 > 0:13:11Yeah, Billy went up to change a bulb.

0:13:11 > 0:13:13He's destroyed it up there!

0:13:13 > 0:13:14He's absolutely wrecked it.

0:13:14 > 0:13:16But the best bit was, right, I said to Billy,

0:13:16 > 0:13:20"Billy, is it OK If I put all those floorboards down up the stairs now?"

0:13:20 > 0:13:24He said "No! No! We've got to put all the lights in downstairs!"

0:13:24 > 0:13:27I said, "We've taken all the ceilings down for you to do that."

0:13:27 > 0:13:28- "Have you?"- He hadn't noticed?

0:13:28 > 0:13:31No, he hasn't noticed we took the ceilings down.

0:13:31 > 0:13:33So, I blame Billy completely.

0:13:33 > 0:13:35Right, let's go and have a word with Bill, then.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39I'm glad you joined me here for a minute.

0:13:39 > 0:13:42We weren't supposed to be touching the upstairs.

0:13:42 > 0:13:43It's, it's a mess.

0:13:43 > 0:13:48I know. It happens, when you start undoing, untangling the can of worms,

0:13:48 > 0:13:49the worms get larger,

0:13:49 > 0:13:54so, what we found, it's easier to take everything out, but you have

0:13:54 > 0:13:57to be very good up there, cos there's all lots of floorboards up.

0:13:57 > 0:13:59I know, that's what I've come to tell you about!

0:13:59 > 0:14:02There's lots of floorboards up, there's holes in the walls.

0:14:02 > 0:14:04Now we've got an extra two days of patching up to do.

0:14:04 > 0:14:06That's not my fault, is it, that?

0:14:06 > 0:14:08You'd have to talk to the "designers".

0:14:08 > 0:14:11They're the ones that decide what goes in and what comes out.

0:14:11 > 0:14:15Why is "that" a sign for designers?

0:14:15 > 0:14:17Well, it's like the "special trades" we get as well.

0:14:17 > 0:14:19What's that?

0:14:19 > 0:14:23- They're brackets, aren't they? Inverted brackets?- No, that's that.

0:14:23 > 0:14:24No, it's not.

0:14:24 > 0:14:26See? Two, two on each end, quotation marks.

0:14:26 > 0:14:28That, I don't know what that is.

0:14:28 > 0:14:31Oh, no wonder people don't understand the way I talk!

0:14:31 > 0:14:34I thought it was that in brackets, open and shut brackets.

0:14:34 > 0:14:38- No, it's quotation marks!- Oh!

0:14:38 > 0:14:41So I should, I can't do that, if I do that, then.

0:14:42 > 0:14:43I can't do it.

0:14:44 > 0:14:47I'm still worried about the can of worms

0:14:47 > 0:14:50and giant worms getting bigger when they get untangled.

0:14:52 > 0:14:55Inside, the new extension is up and the roof trusses are going in.

0:14:55 > 0:14:58Unbelievably, we're on schedule, with no major problems

0:14:58 > 0:15:00apart from the destruction upstairs.

0:15:03 > 0:15:06- That's fantastic.- It's the full package really, isn't it?

0:15:06 > 0:15:07Timber frame up, get it in, in a day,

0:15:07 > 0:15:10- roof on the next day, bricklayers in.- Yes.

0:15:10 > 0:15:13When you've got nine days to build a house, that's what you need, isn't it?

0:15:13 > 0:15:16Thank you very much. You're a top man. Thank you.

0:15:16 > 0:15:17That was meant to be an interview.

0:15:17 > 0:15:20It was mainly Mark talking, to be honest.

0:15:25 > 0:15:27Sky's gone a bit pink, which means it's the end of the day

0:15:27 > 0:15:30and a very productive day it's been. Have you enjoyed your first day?

0:15:30 > 0:15:34Brilliant. Really, really good fun. Everyone's having a laugh, but working really hard as well.

0:15:34 > 0:15:37There's something about it, it really gets your juices flowing

0:15:37 > 0:15:41every time I come on one of these, because it's pizzazz, it's oomph...

0:15:41 > 0:15:45- What is it they're showing? - It's grit.- Grit.- It's grit, Nick.

0:15:45 > 0:15:48That's what it is. There'll be more grit tomorrow in the tea, the lunch

0:15:48 > 0:15:50and shown on site.

0:15:50 > 0:15:52- Fancy a bit of dinner?- Yes.- Right.

0:15:59 > 0:16:03Yesterday, we smashed the house up and talked a load of rimmidge.

0:16:03 > 0:16:06Today we're putting it back together and making sense, I hope.

0:16:06 > 0:16:08Starting with the steel.

0:16:09 > 0:16:11Yeah, we're getting on all right.

0:16:11 > 0:16:14Going to, um, cut the steels to length,

0:16:14 > 0:16:17get them in, we've got all these pins holding the wall up,

0:16:17 > 0:16:20that they're going to be in the way a little bit.

0:16:20 > 0:16:21But we've got plenty of men,

0:16:21 > 0:16:25plenty of pairs of hands and loads of enthusiasm.

0:16:25 > 0:16:28He's very butch, isn't he? I love it when Julian takes control.

0:16:28 > 0:16:30He's a real leader of men when he wants to be,

0:16:30 > 0:16:34leading form the front, one of the boys, he knows everyone's name.

0:16:34 > 0:16:38- What do you call the fella with the orange vest behind you?- Bob.

0:16:38 > 0:16:41- What about the fella to the right of him doing the steels?- Ricky.

0:16:41 > 0:16:44- Ricky. What about Ricky's mate behind him, what's he called?- Fred. - Fred.

0:16:44 > 0:16:48- What do you call that fella over there, the electrician on the left? - Sidney.

0:16:48 > 0:16:51- What is your name, mate?- Andy. - And what's your name?

0:16:51 > 0:16:53- Martin.- What's your name, mate?- Bob.

0:16:53 > 0:16:56I knew there was a Bob somewhere! LAUGHTER

0:16:56 > 0:16:58I knew there was a Bob. HE LAUGHS

0:16:58 > 0:17:00Two B's, one hole, can't get it wrong.

0:17:00 > 0:17:01HE LAUGHS

0:17:01 > 0:17:03I know how to spell that as well.

0:17:03 > 0:17:05LAUGHTER

0:17:05 > 0:17:07All right, maybe names aren't his strong point.

0:17:07 > 0:17:10Names aren't important, it's the muscle that counts.

0:17:12 > 0:17:15- Just got to blow the holes up with the bolts.- All right.

0:17:15 > 0:17:18Now that the house is less likely to fall down,

0:17:18 > 0:17:20we can turn our attention to the garden.

0:17:20 > 0:17:23Like the house, we need to make it into a safe place for Brandon.

0:17:23 > 0:17:26And thankfully, Adam the garden designer has a plan.

0:17:26 > 0:17:30What are we going to do in here? I noticed there's an awful lot of hard landscaping going on.

0:17:30 > 0:17:35We've got a large circle of artificial lawn for the middle,

0:17:35 > 0:17:37and then across the back is going to be a large,

0:17:37 > 0:17:39timber-raised flower bed,

0:17:39 > 0:17:42two-tiered so that Brandon can't get to them

0:17:42 > 0:17:45and there's going to be a timber area for Brandon as well,

0:17:45 > 0:17:48which is going to be covered in an outdoor carpet.

0:17:48 > 0:17:51An outdoor carpet and we're using that same carpet inside the playroom,

0:17:51 > 0:17:55which is adjacent to that area, so when the French doors are open,

0:17:55 > 0:17:57you'll get that lovely inside-outside.

0:17:57 > 0:18:01- And how are you finding it to work on? Nerve-racking. Is it really? - Yeah.- Why's that?

0:18:01 > 0:18:03Because I normally get six weeks to do this.

0:18:03 > 0:18:04NICK LAUGHS

0:18:04 > 0:18:06Not six days.

0:18:06 > 0:18:08'He may be nervous, but I have faith in him.

0:18:08 > 0:18:11'As long as it doesn't rain, he'll be fine.'

0:18:11 > 0:18:13You know what's going to happen next, don't you?

0:18:13 > 0:18:16The roof trusses went up yesterday and now we have to fit the skylights

0:18:16 > 0:18:18to get daylight into Jenny's new kitchen.

0:18:19 > 0:18:23Yeah, is there a narrower one than the 600?

0:18:23 > 0:18:24Right, we've got a problem here.

0:18:24 > 0:18:28The roof windows that we've got are too wide for these trusses.

0:18:28 > 0:18:31The only thing I can say is that we take the whole thing out

0:18:31 > 0:18:34- and move them all out as we go along, yeah?- Yeah.

0:18:34 > 0:18:36- Cos I can't get smaller windows. - No.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39Time is tight on these builds, as you know,

0:18:39 > 0:18:41and the last thing we need is to move these trusses

0:18:41 > 0:18:42that we put in yesterday.

0:18:42 > 0:18:45I blame whoever measured the skylights.

0:18:45 > 0:18:46I bet it was Mark.

0:18:46 > 0:18:49We call him 100 miller, you know. Because he's always 100 mill out.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52Got a new tape measure as well.

0:18:54 > 0:18:56- Give me the tape measure.- No! - Give me the tape measure.- No!

0:18:56 > 0:19:00Someone else, someone else measure. You are not... Argh!

0:19:00 > 0:19:01He's biting!

0:19:01 > 0:19:03He's biting!

0:19:03 > 0:19:05Argh! Argh!

0:19:05 > 0:19:07'He's a fierce little fella.

0:19:07 > 0:19:08'Maybe he's just hungry.'

0:19:08 > 0:19:11As well as making this house work for Brandon

0:19:11 > 0:19:15and his complex needs, we also need to make it into a home,

0:19:15 > 0:19:18so Naomi has gone to spend time with Jenny and the kids

0:19:18 > 0:19:20to get a feel for them as a family,

0:19:20 > 0:19:23and maybe do a hand painting for the playroom.

0:19:23 > 0:19:26That's like an Eskimo kiss, isn't it? Do you rub noses?

0:19:26 > 0:19:28BRANDON MAKES GRUNTING NOISES

0:19:30 > 0:19:31Eskimo kiss.

0:19:31 > 0:19:33That's an Eskimo kiss.

0:19:33 > 0:19:34- Do it again.- Yeah...

0:19:34 > 0:19:38- BRANDON LAUGHS - I know! Go on, then.

0:19:38 > 0:19:40Shall we do some painting now?

0:19:40 > 0:19:43What we do is take some paint

0:19:43 > 0:19:45and then put it on this hand,

0:19:45 > 0:19:47and then put it on that hand

0:19:47 > 0:19:49and then when your hands are covered in paint,

0:19:49 > 0:19:51you can play with my hair again.

0:19:51 > 0:19:54- That will be fun, won't it? - That will be interesting.

0:19:54 > 0:19:56THEY LAUGH

0:20:02 > 0:20:05OK, I think yellow would be really cool, don't you?

0:20:05 > 0:20:06We'll do it all on yellow.

0:20:09 > 0:20:11Good boy, well done.

0:20:11 > 0:20:13Press, press, press. And up.

0:20:13 > 0:20:17Oh brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. OK.

0:20:17 > 0:20:20Fantastic. So, you know the score, Katie.

0:20:20 > 0:20:24Put your left hand in. OK, good.

0:20:24 > 0:20:27- And press, press, press. Ta-da!- All done.- Fantastic.

0:20:29 > 0:20:33So, you've got your house being re-done at the moment, haven't you?

0:20:33 > 0:20:35- Are you excited? - I think it's cool.

0:20:35 > 0:20:39And what's your favourite part of the house at the moment?

0:20:39 > 0:20:40My bedroom.

0:20:40 > 0:20:42Your bedroom.

0:20:42 > 0:20:44So is it a good thing that we're going to be redecorating it,

0:20:44 > 0:20:46or not such a good thing?

0:20:46 > 0:20:48- Good thing.- A good thing.

0:20:48 > 0:20:50As long as we do princesses and we do pink.

0:20:50 > 0:20:51THEY LAUGH

0:20:51 > 0:20:54What if we don't do princesses and pink?

0:20:54 > 0:20:56Would that be a problem?

0:20:56 > 0:20:58NAOMI LAUGHS

0:20:58 > 0:21:01You've got a brother, Brandon. Do you help your mummy?

0:21:01 > 0:21:03Do you? What do you do to help your mummy?

0:21:03 > 0:21:07I help Brandon get, I help mummy get the bowl for Brandon,

0:21:07 > 0:21:10cos she can't get the bowl for Brandon

0:21:10 > 0:21:12in case he be sick.

0:21:12 > 0:21:14BRANDON RETCHES It's all right, Brandon.

0:21:14 > 0:21:16I hold his head.

0:21:16 > 0:21:20- Do you?- Like, when he looks, like that way and that way.

0:21:22 > 0:21:24Does he like that?

0:21:24 > 0:21:27Does it calm him down a little bit?

0:21:27 > 0:21:31Brandon likes playing with my hair, he does.

0:21:31 > 0:21:34So he likes playing with your hair?

0:21:34 > 0:21:36And what about your baby sister?

0:21:36 > 0:21:38She tries to scratch me.

0:21:38 > 0:21:40NAOMI LAUGHS

0:21:40 > 0:21:43So, one's pulling your hair and the other's scratching you?!

0:21:43 > 0:21:47It's difficult being the middle one, isn't it, sometimes?

0:21:47 > 0:21:48It is difficult.

0:21:51 > 0:21:56Right, and now, Rosie, oh, look at these gorgeous hands you've got.

0:21:56 > 0:22:00- Just put your little hand out. - I'll let you do it.

0:22:00 > 0:22:02There we are. And we press, press, press.

0:22:02 > 0:22:06Ooh! So good. Up, up, up.

0:22:06 > 0:22:07- There we go.- Ah.

0:22:07 > 0:22:09Clever you.

0:22:10 > 0:22:12You know, at just five years old,

0:22:12 > 0:22:14Katie has had so much to deal with,

0:22:14 > 0:22:17but she is a real help to Jennie.

0:22:17 > 0:22:18I think at the very least

0:22:18 > 0:22:21she deserves that pink princess bedroom

0:22:21 > 0:22:23and everyone on-site is working hard

0:22:23 > 0:22:26to ensure this house works for her and the whole family.

0:22:31 > 0:22:33INDISTINCT VOICES

0:22:33 > 0:22:36Morning! I intimated it would rain and true enough, it has.

0:22:36 > 0:22:38Shame the roof doesn't cover the entire garden.

0:22:38 > 0:22:41The good news is that Billy has finished destroying

0:22:41 > 0:22:44everything upstairs, which means we can get in and make good,

0:22:44 > 0:22:48which also means it's Chris' time to shine with his team.

0:22:48 > 0:22:51We've got three spreads upstairs patching,

0:22:51 > 0:22:53so it will release the rooms upstairs for the decorators.

0:22:53 > 0:22:57Floor's going to go down in here, then we can start insulating the ceiling and start tacking.

0:22:57 > 0:23:01There's 21 plasterers coming tomorrow. I'm in a good place.

0:23:01 > 0:23:02Happy bunny, thank you.

0:23:02 > 0:23:04'To help Jenny and Steve

0:23:04 > 0:23:07'keep an eye on Brandon, Naomi wants to install CCTV,

0:23:07 > 0:23:10'but to do that she needs sockets and cables,

0:23:10 > 0:23:11'and that's a job for Billy.

0:23:11 > 0:23:14'Now, bear in mind we've been metric since the '60s.'

0:23:14 > 0:23:16- OK, so...- 17...

0:23:16 > 0:23:19- 1750.- What's that, in English?

0:23:19 > 0:23:22- NAOMI LAUGHS - It's 1750 mill.

0:23:22 > 0:23:27- Yes, what's it in English? - 175 centimetres. Oh, in inches? You're not doing inches.

0:23:27 > 0:23:31- I'm imperial, sausage. - Imperial sausage?

0:23:31 > 0:23:34Naomi, are you getting on all right with that Billy?

0:23:34 > 0:23:36If you'd rather change Billys, we can sort that out for you as well.

0:23:36 > 0:23:38I can, I can change Billys?

0:23:38 > 0:23:40We have a selection of them over here,

0:23:40 > 0:23:42a taller one, a thinner one,

0:23:42 > 0:23:45- a much better-looking one. - That's really scary.

0:23:45 > 0:23:47Go and stand over there, Bill. Go on, have a look.

0:23:47 > 0:23:50You look more like me than I do.

0:23:50 > 0:23:53- LAUGHTER - We've got the smile.

0:23:53 > 0:23:57The masks are actually, really quite scary, aren't they?

0:23:57 > 0:24:00- No, that one's the real one. The third one's the real one. - NAOMI LAUGHS

0:24:00 > 0:24:02That's not a mask, that's the real one over there.

0:24:02 > 0:24:04The thing is, I think with an electrician

0:24:04 > 0:24:07a bit of height is quite useful, so I'd go for the taller one.

0:24:07 > 0:24:10- You'd go for the taller Billy? - Yeah.- That would make sense.

0:24:10 > 0:24:12And slightly younger, better figure.

0:24:12 > 0:24:15What about the smaller version? Oh, I am the small version!

0:24:15 > 0:24:16LAUGHTER

0:24:16 > 0:24:19Tell you what, we could make some money at Halloween with that, couldn't we?

0:24:19 > 0:24:21LAUGHTER

0:24:24 > 0:24:27Fear not, under those masks are real electricians.

0:24:27 > 0:24:30I don't think the world is ready for another three Billys.

0:24:30 > 0:24:31Horrible...

0:24:31 > 0:24:33That..gorgeous.

0:24:33 > 0:24:36Where do you want these sockets?

0:24:36 > 0:24:38Not where you're thinking of putting 'em!

0:24:38 > 0:24:40Outside the rain has stopped which is handy as we've

0:24:40 > 0:24:44tonnes of soil to barrow in, not that it would have stopped this lot.

0:24:44 > 0:24:48The gaps for the skylight have been sorted

0:24:48 > 0:24:50and now the roof tiles are going on.

0:24:50 > 0:24:52Moving quick, isn't it?

0:24:52 > 0:24:55The challenge with this build is to give Jenny more space

0:24:55 > 0:24:58at the same time as creating safe areas where

0:24:58 > 0:25:01she can leave Brandon but still keep an eye on him.

0:25:01 > 0:25:05So throughout the downstairs we're making half height sliding doors.

0:25:07 > 0:25:09- Nick, you're the man who solves all problems.- Yeah.

0:25:09 > 0:25:13Right we've got a sliding door, how long is a sliding door?

0:25:13 > 0:25:16Well it's going to be as wide as that, plus about this much, I guess.

0:25:16 > 0:25:18So how do we get it in once this is all built?

0:25:22 > 0:25:25- How do we get it in once it's built? - That's a good, good question, Bill.

0:25:25 > 0:25:27We do actually have to get a door into that.

0:25:27 > 0:25:30Those blocks are removable from the top,

0:25:30 > 0:25:32so we drop the door in, the blocks go back on

0:25:32 > 0:25:35and then the tracks get fitted above, so the door will need

0:25:35 > 0:25:38to be a bit smaller in order to get in and fit the track system.

0:25:38 > 0:25:40Ah, simple really, or is it?

0:25:40 > 0:25:42What's the height of the door, Mark?

0:25:42 > 0:25:45The height of the door is 1,200, I believe.

0:25:45 > 0:25:47So we've got a metre here.

0:25:50 > 0:25:53Can we do an origami door?

0:25:53 > 0:25:54So, essentially, it's too big

0:25:54 > 0:25:57and it won't go through the top either.

0:25:57 > 0:26:01Fortunately there are enough skilled trades on site to solve that little

0:26:01 > 0:26:04problem and I'm going to leave them to it and go and meet Steve.

0:26:04 > 0:26:08While we're doing the build, he's been staying with the rest

0:26:08 > 0:26:10of the family at Little Haven's Children's Hospice.

0:26:10 > 0:26:13They come here several times a year to get a break

0:26:13 > 0:26:17from Brandon's 24-hour care routine.

0:26:17 > 0:26:20This place that you come must be a massive relief to you

0:26:20 > 0:26:23because, given the conditions in the house,

0:26:23 > 0:26:27it's a nice house but not set up for your needs.

0:26:27 > 0:26:28No, that's right.

0:26:28 > 0:26:31The house has a little bit of space

0:26:31 > 0:26:33but it doesn't work in terms of, because Brandon's

0:26:33 > 0:26:37condition has deteriorated even for the short time

0:26:37 > 0:26:39that we've been at the house.

0:26:39 > 0:26:44You know, it would just cost too much and money that we don't have

0:26:44 > 0:26:48to be able to change it to how would be best suited for him.

0:26:48 > 0:26:51- But also you chose to take this on.- Yeah.

0:26:51 > 0:26:54Because you came into Brandon's life when he was two.

0:26:54 > 0:26:57- It's never crossed my mind in that sort of respect.- Because?

0:26:57 > 0:27:01Because the love that he gives you, you know,

0:27:01 > 0:27:05and the way that he is, you know, when he's not having his seizures

0:27:05 > 0:27:09when he's not really bad, you know, it's just unconditional.

0:27:09 > 0:27:13Anyone that meets him, you know, it just...it breaks your heart

0:27:13 > 0:27:16when you see what he has to go through on a daily basis

0:27:16 > 0:27:19and you think, "Well, actually, all our problems

0:27:19 > 0:27:24"in context are nothing compared with what he's doing on a daily basis."

0:27:24 > 0:27:28You know, he's fighting this illness that he had no control over,

0:27:28 > 0:27:33but, yet, in himself he's still a lovely little bubbly little boy.

0:27:33 > 0:27:36What do you think has been the toughest time?

0:27:36 > 0:27:41I'd probably have to say when he had his brain surgery

0:27:41 > 0:27:46because, you know, you're making life or death decisions

0:27:46 > 0:27:51because you know the risks that are involved with the operation.

0:27:51 > 0:27:55There was a glimmer of hope in the very start

0:27:55 > 0:27:58but it just all fell back into place

0:27:58 > 0:28:00and the epilepsy continued.

0:28:00 > 0:28:03- That must have been heart-breaking?- Mmm.

0:28:03 > 0:28:07To know that you've put him through that operation

0:28:07 > 0:28:09and potentially have made that decision...

0:28:11 > 0:28:14..which could have gone either way, but then

0:28:14 > 0:28:19these are the decisions we have to make, you have to live with it.

0:28:19 > 0:28:22How much do you worry about Katie and Rosie missing out on things

0:28:22 > 0:28:26because so much of your attention is bound up with looking after Brandon?

0:28:26 > 0:28:29A lot, you know, we always try to do what we can.

0:28:29 > 0:28:34You know, we do see that we have to give them time as well,

0:28:34 > 0:28:39erm, but it's horrible, it's a horrible feeling because you do

0:28:39 > 0:28:41feel in some respects sort of guilty because she's like every

0:28:41 > 0:28:45five-year-old, you know, she wants attention from both of us

0:28:45 > 0:28:48and, as much as we try to give it to her,

0:28:48 > 0:28:52then it's not always possible. Brandon comes first and

0:28:52 > 0:28:57it only take one very strong seizure, which could kill him.

0:28:57 > 0:29:01There's no disillusion about that,

0:29:01 > 0:29:03that is the reality of it

0:29:03 > 0:29:06and you don't dwell on that too much

0:29:06 > 0:29:11because otherwise you wouldn't keep that strength up for him

0:29:11 > 0:29:14and that's what he needs and what the family needs.

0:29:14 > 0:29:16Man, that's hard.

0:29:17 > 0:29:20Having a child with a life-limiting condition affects the whole family

0:29:20 > 0:29:24and I want to make sure we make their house a home for all of them,

0:29:24 > 0:29:28somewhere safe and fun for Katie and Rosie to play and grow up.

0:29:31 > 0:29:35Back on-site, plasterboard is being put up ready for the morning

0:29:35 > 0:29:37when 21 plasterers will descend on the house.

0:29:37 > 0:29:41What do you think, boys, are we going to have this room done tonight?

0:29:41 > 0:29:43- Yeah, easily.- Easy, yeah.

0:29:43 > 0:29:46My hair used to be just like that.

0:29:47 > 0:29:50Hey, if I actually did do my hair like that,

0:29:50 > 0:29:52I'd end up looking much taller, wouldn't I?

0:29:52 > 0:29:54I'd be that much taller.

0:29:56 > 0:29:58He's not right, is he, to be fair?

0:30:02 > 0:30:04Morning, sun is shining,

0:30:04 > 0:30:07I've got a cup of coffee in my hand, ready for anything today.

0:30:07 > 0:30:10As long as it includes coffee.

0:30:10 > 0:30:12This weather is perfect for plastering an entire house

0:30:12 > 0:30:16and just look at them all, we've got 21 here today.

0:30:16 > 0:30:19Chris is in his element.

0:30:19 > 0:30:23It's not so good if you're stuck under the stairs, of course, like this poor bloke.

0:30:23 > 0:30:26The biggest guy on the site and they put him in a tiny, little cupboard.

0:30:28 > 0:30:29- Are you all right, buddy? - Not too bad.

0:30:29 > 0:30:32How are you getting on? It looks a bit hot in there.

0:30:32 > 0:30:34A bit cramped, I just need an owl and I'd feel like Harry Potter.

0:30:36 > 0:30:41The sunny weather has brought a bit of magic to the outside, as well.

0:30:41 > 0:30:42Oh!

0:30:42 > 0:30:45Really getting there, aren't we?

0:30:45 > 0:30:49- You superstars, you're going to be done tonight.- Yep.

0:30:49 > 0:30:50Yes!

0:30:50 > 0:30:54That means we can get the roof finished tomorrow,

0:30:54 > 0:30:57we get the scaffolding down and we can start

0:30:57 > 0:31:00the outside of the building, which is going to be very exciting cos

0:31:00 > 0:31:03we can get all the stuff in that we need to do and stuff.

0:31:03 > 0:31:06All you need is a wee bit of sunshine.

0:31:07 > 0:31:09And, of course, the great British builder.

0:31:09 > 0:31:12He's right, the good weather has meant the garden designers

0:31:12 > 0:31:16have stepped up the pace and are busy laying artificial grass

0:31:16 > 0:31:18to turn the garden into a space the kids can use all the year round,

0:31:18 > 0:31:22whatever the British weather throws at them.

0:31:22 > 0:31:25Because of Brandon's condition, Katie rarely gets to have friends

0:31:25 > 0:31:28round to her house, so her weekly ballet class is one of the few

0:31:28 > 0:31:31opportunities to see friends outside of school.

0:31:31 > 0:31:34It's the perfect place for her to make two new friends.

0:31:36 > 0:31:38- Hello.- Hiya.

0:31:38 > 0:31:40Girls, we've got some new boys joining our class today.

0:31:40 > 0:31:43- You don't mind, do you?- No.

0:31:44 > 0:31:47OK, shall we start our class?

0:31:47 > 0:31:49We're going to do some knee bends, so our plies.

0:31:49 > 0:31:53We're going to go bend and stretch.

0:31:53 > 0:31:54Now do beautiful fairy arms,

0:31:54 > 0:31:57beautiful, where's our big smiles?

0:31:57 > 0:32:01- Stretch and bend and stretch. - Cor, pain!

0:32:01 > 0:32:03Bend and stretch. One and two and three...

0:32:03 > 0:32:06I'm finding this slightly disturbing.

0:32:06 > 0:32:08They are surprisingly light on their feet, though.

0:32:08 > 0:32:10Up on your tippy toes, run, run, run. Stop there...

0:32:10 > 0:32:12..and balance.

0:32:12 > 0:32:14He's surprisingly graceful.

0:32:14 > 0:32:16Oh, that was excellent balancing.

0:32:17 > 0:32:20Ready and run, run, run

0:32:20 > 0:32:21and balance.

0:32:23 > 0:32:25Yeah, I don't know if the boys will ever make it

0:32:25 > 0:32:27as ballet dancers, but Katie's having a great time.

0:32:27 > 0:32:31We're going to step to the side, girls, and curtsy

0:32:31 > 0:32:35and step, feet together and bow.

0:32:35 > 0:32:37And can you give everybody a big clap.

0:32:40 > 0:32:42Thank you for letting us enjoy your ballet lesson.

0:32:42 > 0:32:44Thank you.

0:32:46 > 0:32:49There are no words to describe what I've just seen.

0:32:51 > 0:32:54Despite having to look after Brandon 24 hours a day,

0:32:54 > 0:32:56Jenny still finds time to take Katie to ballet,

0:32:56 > 0:32:58that's the kind of mum she is,

0:32:58 > 0:33:00and that's why former social worker, Abi,

0:33:00 > 0:33:04and Brandon's former carer, Amy, contacted us.

0:33:04 > 0:33:06Who was it applied, one of you did, didn't you?

0:33:06 > 0:33:10I applied because when I worked with the family,

0:33:10 > 0:33:14I saw the struggle that they had and being in the position I was in,

0:33:14 > 0:33:18I also saw the fight that they had to have to get Brandon

0:33:18 > 0:33:21just the smallest of changes that would make a massive difference

0:33:21 > 0:33:23to their quality of life.

0:33:23 > 0:33:27And recently they set up a fundraiser and Jenny was

0:33:27 > 0:33:30all about getting some money together so that they could take on this

0:33:30 > 0:33:34by themselves and it fell through and it didn't happen,

0:33:34 > 0:33:36and I just... I felt kind of crushed for them

0:33:36 > 0:33:38that they keep trying to fund raise,

0:33:38 > 0:33:41keep trying to do events, keep trying to get money together,

0:33:41 > 0:33:45keep trying to raise their profile so they can increase Brandon's quality of life

0:33:45 > 0:33:48and it never happens and they...

0:33:48 > 0:33:50..they so deserve, it they really do.

0:33:50 > 0:33:54Having worked in the same area and you know about children

0:33:54 > 0:33:56with the difficulties that Brandon has,

0:33:56 > 0:33:59how much strain is Jenny under just dealing with Brandon,

0:33:59 > 0:34:01let alone the other children?

0:34:01 > 0:34:04She's under an immense strain, because...

0:34:04 > 0:34:07I mean, for us, we dip in and we dip out, don't we?

0:34:07 > 0:34:10We have the children for a certain amount of hours each day.

0:34:10 > 0:34:13For a parent it's 24/7.

0:34:13 > 0:34:16You cannot leave him on his own for a minute,

0:34:16 > 0:34:19you have to have a pair of eyes on him at all times

0:34:19 > 0:34:21because he doesn't always give a sign that he's going

0:34:21 > 0:34:25to have a fit, so he can drop and have one with no warning.

0:34:25 > 0:34:27And through the night, although he's asleep,

0:34:27 > 0:34:31they have to be next to him because he will just start having fits

0:34:31 > 0:34:35in his sleep and he can vomit with them, which is an obvious danger

0:34:35 > 0:34:38when he's laying down asleep, so it's 24/7.

0:34:38 > 0:34:41It must wear them out, though, mustn't it?

0:34:41 > 0:34:42Won't they just burn out?

0:34:42 > 0:34:45Her way of coping with things is just that she keeps

0:34:45 > 0:34:47going and keeps going and keeps going.

0:34:47 > 0:34:50- Cos if she stops she'd never get started again.- Yeah.

0:34:57 > 0:34:59Thankfully the build is going remarkably well,

0:34:59 > 0:35:03just two days left before we give the house back.

0:35:03 > 0:35:07Oh, look at this how this has changed, look at this!

0:35:07 > 0:35:08It's come to life, hasn't it?

0:35:08 > 0:35:11That's completely changed. It looked like we weren't getting anywhere

0:35:11 > 0:35:13with it and, suddenly, it's come to life.

0:35:13 > 0:35:14We got on, got loads done.

0:35:14 > 0:35:17Today we'll get loads done, as well.

0:35:17 > 0:35:20- Tomorrow, we should be good to go. - Lovely planting tomorrow?

0:35:20 > 0:35:21Yep.

0:35:21 > 0:35:24- All the pretty stuff, yeah? - Yeah.- Lovely thank you.

0:35:24 > 0:35:26He was nervous, now he's calm,

0:35:26 > 0:35:28unlike the kitchen.

0:35:29 > 0:35:32Now look at this, look at this, look at this. Isn't it ridiculous?

0:35:32 > 0:35:34All the ugly ones leave.

0:35:34 > 0:35:37Actually, to be honest, we still need one or two in the room,

0:35:37 > 0:35:40- so, no, stay, but... - NICK CHUCKLES

0:35:45 > 0:35:48They aren't ugly at all, they're beautiful, talented, hardworking...

0:35:48 > 0:35:50Have I said enough yet?

0:35:50 > 0:35:53They've even solved the problem of the sliding pocket door.

0:35:53 > 0:35:56In the end, we were forced to take the whole wall apart

0:35:56 > 0:36:00because of the radiator, because there wasn't enough space to get

0:36:00 > 0:36:03- a wheelchair actually through the door.- Oh, what, between this end here...?

0:36:03 > 0:36:05Between this end here and the radiator here?

0:36:05 > 0:36:08- So that's why you've cut the end off of this.- Yeah.

0:36:08 > 0:36:11Then that in turn made it easier to actually get this door in.

0:36:11 > 0:36:14- By ripping the wall off?- Yeah.

0:36:14 > 0:36:16- We've still got the electrics all attached as well.- Oh, yeah,

0:36:16 > 0:36:18we're going to put it back in, look.

0:36:18 > 0:36:21- That is genius, isn't it? - Look at that.

0:36:21 > 0:36:25Well that's good. Well done, lads, that'll work nicely for them.

0:36:25 > 0:36:29Every single one of them a genius in their own right.

0:36:29 > 0:36:31Giving Brandon a safe space to sleep at night was

0:36:31 > 0:36:33one of the family's priorities,

0:36:33 > 0:36:36so we've had a bed specially made with cushion walls,

0:36:36 > 0:36:40which means it's very big and someone has put the bedroom door

0:36:40 > 0:36:42in the wrong place.

0:36:42 > 0:36:44Right, we've got a little bit of a problem.

0:36:44 > 0:36:47We've got the bed, which is very beautiful, which comes out to here,

0:36:47 > 0:36:52but we need that full width to get a wheelchair through here.

0:36:52 > 0:36:57Can we really quickly redesign this room?

0:36:58 > 0:37:00Do you think?

0:37:01 > 0:37:03Anything for you, Mark.

0:37:03 > 0:37:06I understand there's an issue about the bed.

0:37:06 > 0:37:08- It's only a tiny little issue. - No, it's fine.

0:37:08 > 0:37:11Is this the bed we measured cos we needed to set the walls exactly,

0:37:11 > 0:37:14- and you measured it three times? - No, I didn't measure this bit.

0:37:14 > 0:37:16- Yes, you did.- No, no, I didn't design...

0:37:16 > 0:37:18I held the other end whilst you measured it.

0:37:18 > 0:37:21That way, yes, we've got the width, the width is fine.

0:37:21 > 0:37:23- It's always the length with you, ain't it?- It's the length.

0:37:23 > 0:37:26- It's always with the length.- So we've got our length wrong.

0:37:26 > 0:37:29- So can the bed...- Yeah.

0:37:29 > 0:37:33- ..turn this way? - Yes, let's see, let's see.

0:37:33 > 0:37:36Yes but have you got enough between the end corner here and here?

0:37:37 > 0:37:40That wall, that box when you get to it, where's that?

0:37:40 > 0:37:41The corner's there.

0:37:41 > 0:37:43That's still tight, isn't it?

0:37:43 > 0:37:46If we lose that wall completely, you can come straight through...

0:37:46 > 0:37:48- And round.- But we can't do that cos we've got the radiator

0:37:48 > 0:37:50- and we've got all the... - Let's look at that.

0:37:50 > 0:37:52All the central heating running through it.

0:37:52 > 0:37:55If you took the wall out, take that back to the wall and just...

0:37:55 > 0:37:57- We could do.- ..have a tap off and put one radiator in there,

0:37:57 > 0:37:59you don't need the radiator that side...

0:37:59 > 0:38:01- What, remove the wall completely? - Yeah, take it out.

0:38:01 > 0:38:05- That means you've got no changing area then.- Don't forgot, there's steels in here.

0:38:05 > 0:38:07- Which cuts across that wall there. - Yeah.

0:38:09 > 0:38:12D'you know what? I actually think... I think I can honestly say

0:38:12 > 0:38:14this is the biggest mistake we've ever made...

0:38:14 > 0:38:16on a DIY SOS Big Build.

0:38:16 > 0:38:19To get to this stage where we're actually...

0:38:19 > 0:38:22When we've only got - what, a day, two days to work it out?

0:38:22 > 0:38:24To find that the bed - that is specifically built

0:38:24 > 0:38:27for the young lad we've come here to help - doesn't fit the room,

0:38:27 > 0:38:30is actually something of a disaster.

0:38:30 > 0:38:33It's an old-fashioned thought, but in future,

0:38:33 > 0:38:35why don't we measure things

0:38:35 > 0:38:37and work them out on a plan beforehand

0:38:37 > 0:38:40and maybe put doorways in the right place, what about that as an idea?

0:38:40 > 0:38:41We actually do try and do that, you know?

0:38:41 > 0:38:44While you're down the nail bar, we are trying very hard

0:38:44 > 0:38:45in the backroom to do that, you know?

0:38:45 > 0:38:48How many times did I come in here and measure this and say,

0:38:48 > 0:38:50"Are the walls in the right place? Is it in the right place...?"

0:38:50 > 0:38:53- Oh, so you admit you measured it, YOU measured it!- You measured it!

0:38:53 > 0:38:57- Yeah.- Oh!- Did you measure this, did you? So it's...YOUR fault!

0:38:57 > 0:38:59How is it... How is it my fault

0:38:59 > 0:39:01when I haven't designed it or built the bed,

0:39:01 > 0:39:03or in fact done any work at all?

0:39:03 > 0:39:05How could it be my fault?

0:39:05 > 0:39:06That's the one absolute surety is

0:39:06 > 0:39:08cos I do so little, it can't be my fault.

0:39:08 > 0:39:11But it all starts with the measuring, doesn't it, Mark?

0:39:11 > 0:39:14- Doesn't it, Mark?- It's his fault, really, isn't it? It does, yeah.

0:39:14 > 0:39:16I'm gobsmacked that you could actually even begin

0:39:16 > 0:39:17to pass the blame.

0:39:17 > 0:39:19THEY LAUGH

0:39:19 > 0:39:23'They are literally shifting the blame from themselves when it's their fault!'

0:39:25 > 0:39:27'You know, it's very late in the day to start knocking down walls

0:39:27 > 0:39:30'and rearranging the plumbing and electrics,

0:39:30 > 0:39:32'but once we've said the word and that's what needs to be done,

0:39:32 > 0:39:35'it's like a well-oiled machine kicks in...

0:39:35 > 0:39:37'When I say well-oiled, not "down the pub" well-oiled,

0:39:37 > 0:39:39'I mean like a proper machine.

0:39:39 > 0:39:42'And the boys start kicking into it to make it happen - why?

0:39:42 > 0:39:46'Because they know they're going to make a brighter future

0:39:46 > 0:39:47'for a little boy who needs it.

0:39:47 > 0:39:51'And it's that commitment which has really touched the family.'

0:39:52 > 0:39:53Is that a bit weird, all this?

0:39:53 > 0:39:57Yeah, it's really surreal. We just feel really lucky.

0:39:57 > 0:40:01Like why... You know, something that we've wished for for ages

0:40:01 > 0:40:04or like just for Brandon to have a bedroom and wet room,

0:40:04 > 0:40:08and the fact that... everyone is there doing it

0:40:08 > 0:40:13and it's more than we ever could do ourselves or imagine.

0:40:13 > 0:40:16But you must have, at times, felt desperately unlucky?

0:40:16 > 0:40:19Oh, yeah. You know, Brandon was born fine,

0:40:19 > 0:40:22there was nothing wrong with him...

0:40:22 > 0:40:26And then for him to be as ill as he is

0:40:26 > 0:40:31and deteriorate as quick as he has, like, I do feel unlucky for that.

0:40:31 > 0:40:34It's now like the quality of life...

0:40:34 > 0:40:38You know, he is nine years old and I want him to see the days,

0:40:38 > 0:40:41I don't want him to be asleep.

0:40:41 > 0:40:44You know, he still needs to see that daylight.

0:40:44 > 0:40:45I don't want him on a drug

0:40:45 > 0:40:48that not necessarily is helping his seizures,

0:40:48 > 0:40:50but he'll just be asleep

0:40:50 > 0:40:54so that we're not having to deal with it physically,

0:40:54 > 0:40:57that's not a life...

0:40:57 > 0:41:01You know, he needs to see the world, like, every day...

0:41:01 > 0:41:04and the changes, and us grow.

0:41:05 > 0:41:09You've had enough putting him through procedures and...

0:41:09 > 0:41:12Yeah, and the side effects of medicines, you know,

0:41:12 > 0:41:18they can make him angry and not the boy that he is,

0:41:18 > 0:41:20and that's not fair to him.

0:41:20 > 0:41:24It's not fair, and they don't have any help with his seizures.

0:41:24 > 0:41:29My way of getting him through life now is I'll be there,

0:41:29 > 0:41:30you know, I'm his mum.

0:41:32 > 0:41:37And it's just that little boy, it's just...

0:41:37 > 0:41:41He's in there, but the epilepsy has got him...

0:41:44 > 0:41:46..but we'll keep hold of him.

0:41:46 > 0:41:48It is tough for us to see the little boy inside.

0:41:50 > 0:41:52- (But he's inside.)- He's there.

0:41:52 > 0:41:55(He's there.) And that's the hardest thing.

0:42:03 > 0:42:05- (Sorry!) - It's all right. C'mon, c'mon.

0:42:12 > 0:42:13We can't change that,

0:42:13 > 0:42:17but you can maybe make tomorrow a slightly better day.

0:42:24 > 0:42:27'I've nothing but admiration for Jenny.'

0:42:28 > 0:42:31'She won't give up on Brandon, no matter what the future holds.

0:42:31 > 0:42:34'Her resilience is inspirational,

0:42:34 > 0:42:36'and that's why every one of these trades

0:42:36 > 0:42:39'is determined to do their best to help Jenny and her family.'

0:42:41 > 0:42:44'After our earlier measuring issues, Brandon's bed is up

0:42:44 > 0:42:47'and is going to make the world of difference.'

0:42:47 > 0:42:49That's... Well, it's five hours since we made the decision

0:42:49 > 0:42:53to take that wall out and correct it all - amazing!

0:42:53 > 0:42:56'It is so incredible that I've been buoyed with confidence

0:42:56 > 0:42:59'and I'm ready to ask a designer the question I should never ask.'

0:42:59 > 0:43:01- Can I ask you a question?- Yes.

0:43:01 > 0:43:04- It's a design-based question. - No, no, definitely not. No, go on.

0:43:04 > 0:43:05Come over here. Come here.

0:43:05 > 0:43:09That design feature wall was probably the most difficult thing

0:43:09 > 0:43:11- that our plasterers have ever attempted, and...- Surely not.

0:43:11 > 0:43:15..one or two of them had to go outside and breathe heavily during the creation of that.

0:43:15 > 0:43:17I mean, what are you displaying in shelves that thin?

0:43:17 > 0:43:20The best we can come up with is that one of 'em likes raisins

0:43:20 > 0:43:22and it's for displaying raisins.

0:43:22 > 0:43:23- And nuts.- And nuts.

0:43:23 > 0:43:26- Nuts and raisins.- Oh, well, it's not completely, fair enough.- No.

0:43:26 > 0:43:28Ain't going to get a vase on there, are we?

0:43:28 > 0:43:30No, see, all the builders are asking the same question -

0:43:30 > 0:43:32what are you going to put on there?

0:43:33 > 0:43:35Well, good... Ask...

0:43:35 > 0:43:38That's good, you want a sense of mystery, a bit of jeopardy.

0:43:38 > 0:43:42What is going in those recesses? Who knows?! We'll find out.

0:43:42 > 0:43:44All right then.

0:43:45 > 0:43:48'In other words, they're making it up as they go along.

0:43:48 > 0:43:50'What I always suspected with designers.

0:43:50 > 0:43:53'We've suffered numerous problems and setbacks on this build,

0:43:53 > 0:43:56'but we've solved them all, and now we can begin

0:43:56 > 0:43:57'the finishing touches

0:43:57 > 0:43:59'before handing the house back in the morning.'

0:44:03 > 0:44:06'And, yes, it is going to be a beautiful day.'

0:44:11 > 0:44:14'Nine days ago, we found Jenny and Steve exhausted

0:44:14 > 0:44:18'and on the edge, struggling to cope with Brandon's seizures

0:44:18 > 0:44:21'whilst juggling the needs of a young family.'

0:44:21 > 0:44:24Not now he's started his seizure, I can't leave him completely...

0:44:24 > 0:44:27- to run and get Rosie's dummy. - ROSIE WAILS

0:44:27 > 0:44:30'Their house was a dangerous obstacle course

0:44:30 > 0:44:32'and Brandon spent most of his time in the living room,

0:44:32 > 0:44:35'even sleeping there at night.'

0:44:35 > 0:44:38Brandon's always with me or Steve,

0:44:38 > 0:44:41he's never without one of us, but he can't be left.

0:44:41 > 0:44:45'We sent out a real DIY SOS to the people of Essex,

0:44:45 > 0:44:47'and this is what they achieved.'

0:44:49 > 0:44:52'We've done away with the old cramped playroom

0:44:52 > 0:44:54'and kitchen with its sharp corners

0:44:54 > 0:44:58'and created a big open-plan kitchen/diner.'

0:44:59 > 0:45:02'The whole design has been geared towards Brandon's safety...'

0:45:04 > 0:45:08'..with the rounded corners and soft edges on all the work surfaces.'

0:45:09 > 0:45:14'Half-height walls and sliding doors mean Jenny can see Brandon

0:45:14 > 0:45:16'while keeping him safe in another room.'

0:45:18 > 0:45:20'We've put in a playroom with a ball pit,

0:45:20 > 0:45:24'and padded storage space to keep all the toys off the floor.'

0:45:26 > 0:45:27'The living room has been transformed

0:45:27 > 0:45:29'into a practical and stylish space

0:45:29 > 0:45:34'with washable flooring and padded cupboards in case Brandon falls.'

0:45:36 > 0:45:39'Of prime importance in this build was a separate space

0:45:39 > 0:45:41'for Brandon to wash and sleep.

0:45:41 > 0:45:44'Somewhere he could recover from his seizures

0:45:44 > 0:45:47'where he wouldn't be disturbed by the rest of the family.

0:45:47 > 0:45:51'And so we've turned the old living room into a wet room and a bedroom.'

0:45:52 > 0:45:54'Upstairs, Katie's room doubled up

0:45:54 > 0:45:57'as a storage space for Brandon's bed.

0:45:57 > 0:46:00'We've decluttered it and created a tasteful pink bedroom

0:46:00 > 0:46:02'fit for a princess.'

0:46:04 > 0:46:06'Across the hall, we've turned Jenny and Steve's bedroom

0:46:06 > 0:46:09'into a peaceful oasis of calm,

0:46:09 > 0:46:12'where they can get some well-deserved rest.'

0:46:15 > 0:46:17'At the front of the house, we've made access easier

0:46:17 > 0:46:21'with a permanent ramp and a new wider front door.'

0:46:23 > 0:46:27'And in the back, the garden team has worked a minor miracle,

0:46:27 > 0:46:29'turning the waterlogged back garden

0:46:29 > 0:46:33'into a beautiful, easily accessible space,

0:46:33 > 0:46:37'complete with water feature and safe play area for Brandon,

0:46:37 > 0:46:39'which leads into the playroom.'

0:46:43 > 0:46:46It's been a tough time trying to get the things you need.

0:46:47 > 0:46:51We hope that what your community has come and done for you...

0:46:52 > 0:46:53..will do the job for you.

0:46:54 > 0:46:56If you're ready, open your eyes.

0:46:58 > 0:47:01Oh, my God. Wow!

0:47:01 > 0:47:05- I was not expecting that.- Oh, wow!

0:47:05 > 0:47:08This ain't our house, this is not our house!

0:47:08 > 0:47:10(Oh, my God.)

0:47:10 > 0:47:13- Your house used to stop by that wall.- Amazing.

0:47:13 > 0:47:15Not beyond our wildest dreams, would I have imagined this!

0:47:15 > 0:47:17- Even...- It's lovely.

0:47:17 > 0:47:22Yeah, this is...stunning. It is absolutely fantastic!

0:47:22 > 0:47:24Oh, we've got a table.

0:47:24 > 0:47:26- And we can actually sit and have... - Yeah!

0:47:26 > 0:47:28- ..dinner together as a family, that's...- Family time!

0:47:28 > 0:47:30(Oh, wow.)

0:47:30 > 0:47:32One of the weirder things about the design

0:47:32 > 0:47:33is the half-height walls all the way around,

0:47:33 > 0:47:35but there's a good reason for that.

0:47:35 > 0:47:38Have a look through here, because you've got a play area here.

0:47:38 > 0:47:40Oh, he's got a ball pool! He'll love that.

0:47:40 > 0:47:43- Oh, yeah, we won't get him out of there.- I love it, I love it.

0:47:43 > 0:47:46So, it's a safe, soft area,

0:47:46 > 0:47:50but the point being that in order that you know that he's safe

0:47:50 > 0:47:52and that he won't go off and fall anywhere else.

0:47:53 > 0:47:56- Oh, wow. - You've got half-height doors...

0:47:56 > 0:47:59- so that you know that he's going to be staying in one area.- Oh, wow.

0:47:59 > 0:48:00Oh, wow.

0:48:00 > 0:48:01The other thing is, come over,

0:48:01 > 0:48:04just come over here come through, open your doors and...

0:48:07 > 0:48:09Oh, wow, you've given us a living room.

0:48:09 > 0:48:11The fact that you've managed to, obviously, give us

0:48:11 > 0:48:13somewhere that's homely but safe, you know...

0:48:13 > 0:48:17- For Brandon.- ..for Brandon, that's beyond our dreams.

0:48:17 > 0:48:21You can't keep an eye on Brandon when he's in the bedroom and sit in the living room, can you?

0:48:21 > 0:48:23- No.- But you can now because what you've

0:48:23 > 0:48:25got there is a camera that's looking into Brandon's bed.

0:48:25 > 0:48:27Good.

0:48:27 > 0:48:28So you can sit in here and keep an eye on him

0:48:28 > 0:48:31if you want to, you can read a book, you can play with the kids,

0:48:31 > 0:48:33but you can still keep an eye on him.

0:48:33 > 0:48:37That is also... relays via an app onto your phones or onto a tablet...

0:48:37 > 0:48:38- Does it really?- Oh, wow.

0:48:38 > 0:48:40..you can carry that around wherever you want to be.

0:48:40 > 0:48:43- Wow. - That's so much better, yeah.

0:48:43 > 0:48:45That is going to change our life that and make it

0:48:45 > 0:48:47so much easier.

0:48:47 > 0:48:50So, what is it that you've been fighting for, most, all this time?

0:48:50 > 0:48:53- His bedroom and wet room. - The bedroom and wet room.

0:48:53 > 0:48:55OK, for that we need to go through there.

0:49:03 > 0:49:05Oh, wow.

0:49:05 > 0:49:08- That is fantastic. - He's got a wet room as well.

0:49:08 > 0:49:10Well, yeah the wet room, obviously, you know what

0:49:10 > 0:49:12you needed there, and the toilet and the shower.

0:49:12 > 0:49:15- This is, obviously, a changing table.- He's got a bed. - Oh, look at that.

0:49:15 > 0:49:17Well, obviously, it's a medical bed

0:49:17 > 0:49:19so it goes up, down and all the various other things.

0:49:19 > 0:49:22The idea of building the framework around with all the soft furnishings

0:49:22 > 0:49:26- around the outside means that he can't hurt himself.- No.

0:49:26 > 0:49:28And it's wide enough, obviously, cos

0:49:28 > 0:49:30I know that one of you guys stays here with him, so...

0:49:30 > 0:49:32It will fit us in as well.

0:49:32 > 0:49:34He won't want to get out.

0:49:34 > 0:49:35STEVE LAUGHS

0:49:35 > 0:49:37It's really lovely.

0:49:37 > 0:49:40Yeah, but it means also that when he's sleeping

0:49:40 > 0:49:43in there, if you get him to sleep, then you can close up the doors

0:49:43 > 0:49:47and then go and take a rest and sit down or play with Katie or Rosie

0:49:47 > 0:49:50in the other room with the monitor which will keep an eye on him.

0:49:50 > 0:49:52- We've never had that. - No,

0:49:52 > 0:49:56and it's just them little things that make such a big difference to us.

0:49:56 > 0:49:59It's going to make it so much easier, so much easier.

0:49:59 > 0:50:01Yeah, we can actually start to live!

0:50:01 > 0:50:07And enjoy coming home and not being isolated in different places, it's...

0:50:07 > 0:50:08We can just

0:50:08 > 0:50:12be like the family that we are and that we, that we always want to be.

0:50:16 > 0:50:19Brilliant, it's just everything that we could have

0:50:19 > 0:50:22dreamed of for a wet room and a bedroom for him, it's...

0:50:22 > 0:50:24That is...

0:50:24 > 0:50:26And we haven't finished yet, there's more.

0:50:26 > 0:50:28- More?- There's more, yeah.

0:50:28 > 0:50:32- Shall we go and have a look around the rest of the house?- Yeah, love to!- C'mon.

0:50:41 > 0:50:44Oh, my God, she'll love it.

0:50:44 > 0:50:46Yeah, Katie's room.

0:50:46 > 0:50:49Oh, wow... oh, she'll love this.

0:50:49 > 0:50:51She is going to, ain't she?

0:50:51 > 0:50:54Such a little princess room. She's going to love it.

0:50:54 > 0:50:56- The butterflies on the wall.- Yeah.

0:50:56 > 0:50:57And it's still pink.

0:50:57 > 0:50:59It's still pink, you kept the pink.

0:50:59 > 0:51:01Something you said when we were talking the other day

0:51:01 > 0:51:05that she's had to grow up almost too fast, so we wanted to make sure that

0:51:05 > 0:51:11the room, for her, was as spectacular as the room for Brandon, you know.

0:51:11 > 0:51:13It's beautiful.

0:51:14 > 0:51:18I think it's just knowing, like, all what Katie puts up with

0:51:18 > 0:51:24and she's such a good girl and we depend on her, and it's beautiful.

0:51:24 > 0:51:27There are three things that we've left the same.

0:51:27 > 0:51:29We've left the stairs where they were in the house.

0:51:29 > 0:51:32Pretty much everything else has changed.

0:51:32 > 0:51:35Your bathroom is as it was, because you had a lovely bathroom up here,

0:51:35 > 0:51:38that you've worked very hard to make...

0:51:38 > 0:51:39COUPLE LAUGH

0:51:39 > 0:51:43..and baby's room and we're not going to go messing around with people's baby rooms,

0:51:43 > 0:51:45and you decided how you want Rosie's room, so that's how it is.

0:51:45 > 0:51:49We're still missing one thing, really, aren't we? Come and have a look at this.

0:51:52 > 0:51:54Oh...

0:51:54 > 0:51:55SHE CHUCKLES

0:51:55 > 0:52:00- Oh.- Wow, we've actually got a finished bedroom.

0:52:00 > 0:52:02I know, it's finished.

0:52:02 > 0:52:04That's amazing.

0:52:04 > 0:52:07What do you think, is this the space you needed?

0:52:07 > 0:52:09Yeah, we can come up here and just...

0:52:09 > 0:52:10I'm just speechless still.

0:52:10 > 0:52:12..just relax and...

0:52:12 > 0:52:15We're in awe of how much work has actually gone in to do this.

0:52:15 > 0:52:19Everyone that's come in and changed our life,

0:52:19 > 0:52:21all for the good, we've got a home to live in.

0:52:21 > 0:52:23- Yeah.- You look slightly in shock.

0:52:23 > 0:52:26Yeah, shocked cos we've got a home, we've got a home.

0:52:26 > 0:52:31We've waited so long to have, well...

0:52:31 > 0:52:34nothing as close as this, just to have a home,

0:52:34 > 0:52:38to have this done it's...

0:52:38 > 0:52:41And he's not a separate, Brandon is not a separate and,

0:52:41 > 0:52:44we can all live, like, in here and, we've got a home,

0:52:44 > 0:52:47finally it feels like home.

0:52:48 > 0:52:50Beautiful.

0:52:56 > 0:52:59That's a surprise, isn't it? What do you think?

0:52:59 > 0:53:00Do you like it?

0:53:00 > 0:53:02JENNY LAUGHS

0:53:02 > 0:53:04This is your new room!

0:53:04 > 0:53:07Do you want to sit on your bed? Look... and butterflies,
