0:00:02 > 0:00:04No matter how hard things get,
0:00:04 > 0:00:08love for family is unconditional.
0:00:08 > 0:00:10When the boys were born, I had hopes
0:00:10 > 0:00:13and aspirations that they would share the same experiences
0:00:13 > 0:00:16that I had, just being everything that I hoped they would be
0:00:16 > 0:00:17and that they wanted to be.
0:00:17 > 0:00:20They are our life. They are our soul.
0:00:20 > 0:00:22They are...what we are.
0:00:22 > 0:00:26There isn't words that can describe how much you love your boys.
0:00:26 > 0:00:29This family is still waiting for their children
0:00:29 > 0:00:31to hit the milestones that others do.
0:00:31 > 0:00:36They've got the developmental age of about 12 months...
0:00:36 > 0:00:40which is difficult, to have a baby for four-and-a-half years.
0:00:40 > 0:00:44These boys are growing every day, but with a totally inadequate house,
0:00:44 > 0:00:46all their futures hang in the balance.
0:00:46 > 0:00:48The twins are only going to get bigger.
0:00:48 > 0:00:50The boys would be forced to live down here.
0:00:50 > 0:00:52We'd probably all be living in the living room.
0:00:52 > 0:00:53And that's why we are here -
0:00:53 > 0:00:56to give these boys the best chance in life they can have.
0:00:56 > 0:00:58You couldn't buy what we are about to do,
0:00:58 > 0:01:01but you guys get to make a massive difference to this family.
0:01:01 > 0:01:05But with just nine days, can we do that?
0:01:05 > 0:01:08We need to get this family into the house and get this house working.
0:01:08 > 0:01:09No panelling!
0:01:09 > 0:01:11Missing my son's first birthday today,
0:01:11 > 0:01:12we'd better get it done.
0:01:14 > 0:01:16I don't think I dared to dream...
0:01:16 > 0:01:19It's just all so perfect. It really is.
0:01:19 > 0:01:22All the usual suspects are here. Gabrielle is our designer this week,
0:01:22 > 0:01:24but I'm worried about the sunny weather.
0:01:24 > 0:01:26How are we going to get the builders out?
0:01:26 > 0:01:28I've thought about that - ice cream. Loads of them.
0:01:28 > 0:01:29Ice cream!
0:01:29 > 0:01:30I wonder whether it'll work.
0:01:30 > 0:01:32CHEERING
0:01:34 > 0:01:37This is DIY SOS, The Big Build!
0:01:48 > 0:01:49Qualified lawyer Charlotte
0:01:49 > 0:01:52and charity worker Chris Bull from Birmingham
0:01:52 > 0:01:54live in a three-bedroom house with their three sons,
0:01:54 > 0:01:58Jack, age nine, and twins Alex and Dylan, age four.
0:02:00 > 0:02:03They met 17 years ago, when they worked together in a pub.
0:02:03 > 0:02:05What was your first impression of me?
0:02:05 > 0:02:08My first impression of you was..."Wow."
0:02:09 > 0:02:12"Now, there's a girl I want to marry."
0:02:12 > 0:02:17They had the wedding of their dreams and Jack was born two years later.
0:02:17 > 0:02:20He really did add an extra dimension to our family,
0:02:20 > 0:02:22because it was just us before then.
0:02:22 > 0:02:26It really made it truly magical again.
0:02:26 > 0:02:29And, four years on, he got news he was going to be a big brother.
0:02:29 > 0:02:32We went for a scan and...
0:02:33 > 0:02:37..when they said, "It's twins," I think it took a week
0:02:37 > 0:02:39for my jaw to be lifted off the ground.
0:02:39 > 0:02:42I totally didn't expect twins.
0:02:44 > 0:02:48The pregnancy ran smoothly until Charlotte went into early labour.
0:02:50 > 0:02:52I was only 31 weeks pregnant at the time.
0:02:52 > 0:02:54We had an emergency Caesarean section
0:02:54 > 0:02:56at seven o'clock that morning.
0:02:56 > 0:02:59They sorted the boys out and they showed me them briefly
0:02:59 > 0:03:01as they were whisked off to the neonatal unit.
0:03:02 > 0:03:05On the whole, they did really well and they were actually
0:03:05 > 0:03:08only in hospital for one calendar month, which was fantastic.
0:03:09 > 0:03:12With what they thought was the worst behind them,
0:03:12 > 0:03:16this family of five settled back into normal life.
0:03:16 > 0:03:19Things changed. They caught a cold, didn't they, to start with.
0:03:19 > 0:03:23Was it...Alex? Ended up in intensive care.
0:03:23 > 0:03:24We didn't think it'd be serious,
0:03:24 > 0:03:26but he was really struggling to breathe.
0:03:26 > 0:03:30Three weeks later, I started to be concerned about Dylan.
0:03:30 > 0:03:32He went blue and floppy, didn't he?
0:03:32 > 0:03:34The ambulance had to pull over
0:03:34 > 0:03:36because he'd just totally shut down and stopped
0:03:36 > 0:03:39and they had to resuscitate him and get him back.
0:03:39 > 0:03:42For the first year of Alex and Dylan's lives,
0:03:42 > 0:03:45they were in hospital far more than they were out.
0:03:45 > 0:03:48Eventually, they were diagnosed
0:03:48 > 0:03:50with severe asthma, bronchiolitis
0:03:50 > 0:03:52and lung damage.
0:03:52 > 0:03:56With life so hectic, crucial milestones went unnoticed.
0:03:57 > 0:04:00It was only when you realised
0:04:00 > 0:04:02that there were other children in the hospital
0:04:02 > 0:04:04that were starting to pull themselves up in the cot
0:04:04 > 0:04:06and things like that, and you said,
0:04:06 > 0:04:10"Well, why aren't my boys doing what normal boys do?"
0:04:10 > 0:04:14Further tests revealed Alex and Dylan had global development delay,
0:04:14 > 0:04:19which is a condition that slows down the process of walking, talking
0:04:19 > 0:04:21and interacting with others.
0:04:21 > 0:04:25They've got the developmental age of about 12 months...
0:04:27 > 0:04:31..which is difficult, to have a baby for four-and-a-half years.
0:04:31 > 0:04:34And they are still babies.
0:04:34 > 0:04:36Hiya...
0:04:36 > 0:04:37No-one knows what the future holds,
0:04:37 > 0:04:42but despite all their health issues, they are lovely, cheeky boys.
0:04:43 > 0:04:45And... Oh, oh, oh!
0:04:45 > 0:04:46HE LAUGHS
0:04:46 > 0:04:49Oh, we know where Dylan's chuckle buttons are.
0:04:49 > 0:04:51HE LAUGHS
0:04:51 > 0:04:53If you dwell on what they can't do too much,
0:04:53 > 0:04:55you become a bit obsessed by that,
0:04:55 > 0:04:57and so it's far easier just to get on with life
0:04:57 > 0:05:00and think about what they can do and the joy that they do bring.
0:05:00 > 0:05:02Dylan, do you want to play with this?
0:05:02 > 0:05:05They are happy boys within themselves.
0:05:05 > 0:05:07They smile a lot, they laugh a lot
0:05:07 > 0:05:09and they bring a lot of laughter into the house.
0:05:09 > 0:05:11HE LAUGHS
0:05:13 > 0:05:16But their other son Jack has a very different home life
0:05:16 > 0:05:18to the average nine-year-old.
0:05:18 > 0:05:22Not having the time to spend with him...
0:05:22 > 0:05:24I find that really, really difficult.
0:05:26 > 0:05:28I can't play football with my dad,
0:05:28 > 0:05:31because he has to look after my brothers.
0:05:31 > 0:05:35But my brothers need attention.
0:05:37 > 0:05:40Charlotte is battling on, as she wants her children
0:05:40 > 0:05:44to have the same everyday start in life that she did.
0:05:44 > 0:05:46I've got a lot of history with this house.
0:05:46 > 0:05:48It was my nan's house.
0:05:48 > 0:05:51She brought up her children here and I am struggling to do the same.
0:05:51 > 0:05:54But the house is really making life very hard.
0:05:54 > 0:05:57Access in and out is a real struggle.
0:06:02 > 0:06:05Charlotte is already suffering severe back pain.
0:06:06 > 0:06:10It's important to me that we all sleep upstairs.
0:06:10 > 0:06:13So, my back is constantly under strain,
0:06:13 > 0:06:15really, and having to do everything twice.
0:06:15 > 0:06:18I never want them to feel like that's their fault
0:06:18 > 0:06:21or they're a burden, because I am doing it for them
0:06:21 > 0:06:23and that's important - they are my boys.
0:06:23 > 0:06:26But she can't carry on like this.
0:06:28 > 0:06:30I think the future is very scary.
0:06:30 > 0:06:32The boys would be forced to live down here.
0:06:32 > 0:06:34There isn't space in the living room now,
0:06:34 > 0:06:36we'd all be living in the living room.
0:06:36 > 0:06:38The twins are only going to get bigger.
0:06:38 > 0:06:40The equipment is only going to get bigger.
0:06:40 > 0:06:43Space is only going to get less.
0:06:43 > 0:06:47And on top of that, this house has caused Alex and Dylan's progress
0:06:47 > 0:06:49to come to a halt.
0:06:49 > 0:06:52You can't help thinking it's just not stimulating enough.
0:06:52 > 0:06:55It's just not giving them the development that they need.
0:06:55 > 0:06:57We do both think, deep down,
0:06:57 > 0:07:01that one day, they will be walking on their own.
0:07:01 > 0:07:03We just want them to be the best they can.
0:07:03 > 0:07:06If the boys have any chance of catching up,
0:07:06 > 0:07:10they are not going to do it living in the house as it is.
0:07:10 > 0:07:13We need an army to get this family up on their feet.
0:07:13 > 0:07:16These are some of the nice people that have decided to join in.
0:07:16 > 0:07:19Can we just say thank you?
0:07:19 > 0:07:21Really, really can't put it into words.
0:07:21 > 0:07:23It is fantastic that you're all here.
0:07:23 > 0:07:27I really am so humbled by it, it's amazing.
0:07:27 > 0:07:28Thank you so much.
0:07:28 > 0:07:29What about you, Jack?
0:07:29 > 0:07:34If there's one thing that we need for this house, what do we need?
0:07:34 > 0:07:36- A lift.- A lift?
0:07:36 > 0:07:38We'll try and sort something out for you as well.
0:07:38 > 0:07:41- Thank you very much. - That's very nice of you, Jack.
0:07:41 > 0:07:43Thank you very much. Thanks for saying thanks.
0:07:43 > 0:07:45Given that the boys are already getting a bit fed up,
0:07:45 > 0:07:48we'll let you get going - this is you over here, is it?
0:07:48 > 0:07:49We do need to get started.
0:07:49 > 0:07:52We have only got the usual nine days and it's a massive task
0:07:52 > 0:07:54to convert this prison of a house
0:07:54 > 0:07:57into one that is accessible to the entire family.
0:08:00 > 0:08:01Everything is being ripped to bits
0:08:01 > 0:08:05and the Brummies are showing us how it's done.
0:08:05 > 0:08:08You see the size of that lintel he has just brought out?
0:08:08 > 0:08:09CHRIS LAUGHS
0:08:09 > 0:08:12- On his own? - He just carried that out.
0:08:12 > 0:08:15Deliveries keep arriving for the outside.
0:08:15 > 0:08:16Two-storey timber frame.
0:08:16 > 0:08:19I love the way that extension has turned up on the back of a truck.
0:08:19 > 0:08:21- I know.- It's clever, innit?- Yeah.
0:08:21 > 0:08:23And even more clever, how it flies up.
0:08:23 > 0:08:25Amazing, when you look at the state of this,
0:08:25 > 0:08:27that in three days, we'll be fitting a kitchen in here
0:08:27 > 0:08:30in a fully plastered room, with all electrics and plumbing in.
0:08:30 > 0:08:32Well, that's the plan.
0:08:32 > 0:08:33Designer Gabrielle Blackman is back -
0:08:33 > 0:08:36as feisty as ever, unswerving in her designs,
0:08:36 > 0:08:39and she can't wait to get her manicured claws into it.
0:08:39 > 0:08:42- Well, it's a 1949 house.- Yeah.
0:08:42 > 0:08:45Much loved, been in the family, Grandma had it.
0:08:45 > 0:08:47So what are we going to do to it?
0:08:48 > 0:08:51Well, what we want to do is try and keep that feeling
0:08:51 > 0:08:54of a traditional layout, and this is so important to Charlotte,
0:08:54 > 0:08:56and really emotional for her.
0:08:56 > 0:08:59So she wants her boys to sleep upstairs.
0:08:59 > 0:09:01She wants the whole family sleeping upstairs.
0:09:01 > 0:09:03For wheelchair access, it's making life really difficult.
0:09:03 > 0:09:06- We'll have to put a lift in. - We've got to put a lift in,
0:09:06 > 0:09:08we've got to put four hoists in.
0:09:08 > 0:09:10And that's not it.
0:09:10 > 0:09:13On the ground floor, a new extension
0:09:13 > 0:09:16will give the family a sunny kitchen-dining area
0:09:16 > 0:09:18with an adjoining wet room for the boys.
0:09:18 > 0:09:21Crucially, we are installing a lift to the first floor,
0:09:21 > 0:09:24so no more struggling up the stairs.
0:09:24 > 0:09:27The partition wall in the living room is coming down
0:09:27 > 0:09:29to create a large open space.
0:09:29 > 0:09:31Upstairs, the two-storey extension
0:09:31 > 0:09:35will create a large new bedroom for Charlotte and Chris.
0:09:35 > 0:09:38A new bathroom will separate the twins' bedrooms,
0:09:38 > 0:09:40and Jack's bedroom is staying where it is,
0:09:40 > 0:09:43but it will be designed with space-saving ideas.
0:09:43 > 0:09:45Out the back, the garden will be fully turfed
0:09:45 > 0:09:48with a seating area and trampoline.
0:09:48 > 0:09:50Basically, it's a design nightmare,
0:09:50 > 0:09:54and what really worries me is lovely Jack, big brother Jack,
0:09:54 > 0:09:57who should really be getting the big bedroom,
0:09:57 > 0:09:58he should be getting his own bedroom,
0:09:58 > 0:10:01he's going to have to stay in that tiny boxroom.
0:10:01 > 0:10:03But, yeah, it's been really hard,
0:10:03 > 0:10:06and I'm sort of still feeling really agitated about it.
0:10:06 > 0:10:07They want their boys to walk.
0:10:07 > 0:10:10They want their boys to be able to communicate
0:10:10 > 0:10:14and we are having to think about the worst-case scenario...
0:10:14 > 0:10:16- To future-proof it for them. - To future-proof it.
0:10:16 > 0:10:19And also, Charlotte's back - she's been...
0:10:19 > 0:10:22She said to me she'd carry those boys to the end of the Earth, but...
0:10:22 > 0:10:25- She wants to that, but she can't. - No.
0:10:25 > 0:10:29We have to put in what they need, not always what they want.
0:10:29 > 0:10:32It's a tough spec, but it's all right,
0:10:32 > 0:10:34we've got the best of the best for this.
0:10:34 > 0:10:35And we've got Billy!
0:10:35 > 0:10:38- They're the only ones... - Yeah, you don't want to dim...
0:10:38 > 0:10:39Any special electronics on this?
0:10:39 > 0:10:41I know how much you love special electronics.
0:10:41 > 0:10:45No, unfortunately, I was all psyched up for the special electronics,
0:10:45 > 0:10:47- but we ain't got none. - We haven't got any?
0:10:47 > 0:10:49What are you up to you, Chris?
0:10:49 > 0:10:51Wallpaper stripping!
0:10:51 > 0:10:56I've been...scraping the paper off the walls today.
0:10:56 > 0:10:59And big man Jules has decided to take on the garden again.
0:10:59 > 0:11:01- How's it going in there? - All right, there?
0:11:01 > 0:11:03- You like your garden?- Lovely.
0:11:03 > 0:11:05He always does the gardens,
0:11:05 > 0:11:08despite knowing nothing about gardening...or designing them.
0:11:09 > 0:11:12Tea-time soon.
0:11:12 > 0:11:14'What he needs is a hand from moi.'
0:11:14 > 0:11:16- Mate, you are on the garden, aren't you?- I am, yes.
0:11:16 > 0:11:19I was going to run a few ideas past you, cos I thought,
0:11:19 > 0:11:23- down at the end there... - No. Sorry. No ideas.
0:11:23 > 0:11:26- Yeah, but...- No. Really. - Not even a...?- No.
0:11:26 > 0:11:28I just think that I could, you know...I could help.
0:11:28 > 0:11:30No...
0:11:30 > 0:11:31- You NEED help. - NICK LAUGHS
0:11:31 > 0:11:33Do you know what your problem is?
0:11:33 > 0:11:36I think you have got a supercharged brain.
0:11:36 > 0:11:39I think you think too much. You think too fast.
0:11:39 > 0:11:42Do you know why you have got a supercharged brain?
0:11:42 > 0:11:45Because of this massive air intake on the front of your face.
0:11:47 > 0:11:51That's the problem. I think you need to reduce your air intake.
0:11:51 > 0:11:53- You know those squidge-up earplugs you get?- Yeah.
0:11:53 > 0:11:56Why don't you shove one of them up each nostril?
0:11:56 > 0:11:58Reduce your airflow little bit.
0:11:58 > 0:11:59HE CHUCKLES
0:11:59 > 0:12:02- What do you reckon? - Do you know what?
0:12:02 > 0:12:05Can you feel your brain slowing down a bit?
0:12:05 > 0:12:08- Why would my brain slow down? - Cos we've reduced the airflow.
0:12:08 > 0:12:11- Oh, yeah.- I'll ask you a couple of questions.- Go on, then.
0:12:11 > 0:12:12What is 2 + 2?
0:12:12 > 0:12:14Peking.
0:12:14 > 0:12:15No!
0:12:15 > 0:12:20- See?- Yeah. - That just proves my theory.
0:12:20 > 0:12:22That you have a supercharged brain.
0:12:22 > 0:12:26- What's he saying?- Have you got that 50 quid I lent you last night?
0:12:26 > 0:12:28Oh, no, it was 60, I had no change.
0:12:28 > 0:12:30I had no change. It was 60.
0:12:32 > 0:12:34Lovely. Thank you. Cheers.
0:12:35 > 0:12:38I tell you what, it could be a very, very profitable day.
0:12:38 > 0:12:41Yeah, not for me, I don't think!
0:12:41 > 0:12:42And not for upstairs, either.
0:12:44 > 0:12:45OK, so what's the issue?
0:12:45 > 0:12:49- This is the issue, here - see these two pipes here?- Yes.
0:12:49 > 0:12:51- Asbestos?- They are asbestos.
0:12:51 > 0:12:53Oh, no. Really?
0:12:53 > 0:12:55We always have a survey done at the start of the job
0:12:55 > 0:12:59and they have removed lots of asbestos from the property,
0:12:59 > 0:13:01but these two pipes were actually under a floor.
0:13:01 > 0:13:03That's all there is to it. Can't do anything about it.
0:13:03 > 0:13:05- We've got to remove it. - Close the site down.
0:13:05 > 0:13:08Gentlemen and ladies, if there are ladies in,
0:13:08 > 0:13:11we need to clear the site, because the asbestos removal people are here
0:13:11 > 0:13:13and they won't do it with any of us on site.
0:13:13 > 0:13:15- If you could all make your way to an exit.- This way, please.
0:13:15 > 0:13:18- Thank you very much. - This way, please, exit this way.
0:13:18 > 0:13:19By the way, you can't stay here, either.
0:13:19 > 0:13:21We put a couple of cameras up
0:13:21 > 0:13:23to watch what they do whilst we're out.
0:13:23 > 0:13:26People always used to build with asbestos
0:13:26 > 0:13:29until they found out that the fibres were lethal if inhaled.
0:13:29 > 0:13:33It's really important no-one is on site whilst it's removed.
0:13:33 > 0:13:35Those guys are going to be finished in ten minutes,
0:13:35 > 0:13:37so we've set a little challenge up.
0:13:37 > 0:13:40Can we get this down in ten minutes, this porch?
0:13:40 > 0:13:42Can we remove it from the front of the house?
0:13:42 > 0:13:44Go on, then, nail it - you've got ten minutes.
0:13:44 > 0:13:48We are not going to let a few deadly fibres put a stop to this build.
0:13:50 > 0:13:52It's hard work, innit, this DIY SOS?
0:13:52 > 0:13:55While the house inside goes all Breaking Bad...
0:13:55 > 0:13:57Five minutes!
0:13:57 > 0:13:59..outside, these guys are breaking good with the porch.
0:13:59 > 0:14:02Three minutes 30 seconds!
0:14:02 > 0:14:05That's it, it's finished, it's finished.
0:14:05 > 0:14:07And there is our time - 8.21.
0:14:07 > 0:14:11They took that down quicker than it took you to eat an ice cream.
0:14:11 > 0:14:13Yeah, but I have been savouring it.
0:14:13 > 0:14:15- Is that it finished, then? - Yeah, that's it.
0:14:15 > 0:14:16We weren't doing anything.
0:14:16 > 0:14:19We were just standing around waiting.
0:14:19 > 0:14:20APPLAUSE
0:14:20 > 0:14:22With the asbestos cleared, there is no time to waste
0:14:22 > 0:14:25as we are approaching the end of the day, and the boys inside
0:14:25 > 0:14:29have discovered Nan's original 1940s parquet floor
0:14:29 > 0:14:31and it's caught Gabbers' eye.
0:14:31 > 0:14:33It's beautiful, look at this parquet floor.
0:14:33 > 0:14:35And it's in absolutely perfect condition.
0:14:35 > 0:14:37I know - let's rip it up and get it in the skip.
0:14:37 > 0:14:39LAUGHTER
0:14:39 > 0:14:43- Knowles, back here now!- What? - We have got to use this somehow.
0:14:43 > 0:14:47- To bulk out the skip? Landfill? - No, it's absolutely beautiful.
0:14:47 > 0:14:51What I think we should do is take it up and use it in another room.
0:14:51 > 0:14:53It is beautiful and it'd be lovely if we could keep it,
0:14:53 > 0:14:56but in view of the fact that we're restructuring the rooms,
0:14:56 > 0:14:57it won't make any sense.
0:14:57 > 0:14:59So we do have to take it up. The best you can do with it
0:14:59 > 0:15:02is probably rip it up and sell it to a company who might sell it on.
0:15:02 > 0:15:05Well, if it could be lovingly taken up
0:15:05 > 0:15:08and I can find somebody to restore it,
0:15:08 > 0:15:10I'm going to use it in another room.
0:15:10 > 0:15:13- You've got to get this off the back. - I know, but it must be possible,
0:15:13 > 0:15:15because people use reclaimed...
0:15:15 > 0:15:17How do you get bitumen off? You use heat.
0:15:17 > 0:15:20- I neither know nor care.- You'll be there for a month of Sundays.
0:15:20 > 0:15:22Tell you what, you get a blowtorch...
0:15:22 > 0:15:24- Voice levels. - Why are you getting so hysterical?
0:15:24 > 0:15:27You get a blowtorch and you take the bitumen off the back of it.
0:15:27 > 0:15:29Take the bitumen off the back of that, see how easy it is.
0:15:29 > 0:15:32- Why are you getting hysterical? - Because you're being ridiculous.
0:15:32 > 0:15:37Taking this up carefully will take...six to eight hours.
0:15:37 > 0:15:40Taking it off roughly will take about 35, 40 minutes.
0:15:41 > 0:15:44That's the difference. And we are in something of a hurry.
0:15:44 > 0:15:45It's true.
0:15:45 > 0:15:49Can I have five minutes to think about it and run round asking...?
0:15:49 > 0:15:51- Oh, five minutes? - If you go and sit outside
0:15:51 > 0:15:53and have five minutes to think about it,
0:15:53 > 0:15:55I'll have the floor delivered to you.
0:15:55 > 0:15:57See? I'm nice like that.
0:15:57 > 0:16:00Upstairs, the frames for all the bedroom walls are going in.
0:16:02 > 0:16:05Hold on, she's...she's in there.
0:16:05 > 0:16:08These guys are moving suspiciously slowly.
0:16:10 > 0:16:13What I've done, which is going to make me really unpopular,
0:16:13 > 0:16:16is I've just put the brakes on the build in the sitting-room
0:16:16 > 0:16:19while we lovingly and carefully pick up each piece of parquet,
0:16:19 > 0:16:21so Mark is going to kill me.
0:16:21 > 0:16:23- What are you talking about? - Um...nothing.
0:16:23 > 0:16:26We're just talking about the floor.
0:16:26 > 0:16:28Don't start.
0:16:28 > 0:16:29She's already started,
0:16:29 > 0:16:32and it's going to be a late one for the floor guys!
0:16:32 > 0:16:35But it's the end of the day for everyone else.
0:16:35 > 0:16:37Well, that's the view, the garden view,
0:16:37 > 0:16:40from the new bedroom that didn't exist this morning.
0:16:40 > 0:16:42This is the top floor of our extension.
0:16:42 > 0:16:46But if you come through this way, you can see the bigger change.
0:16:46 > 0:16:48Taken out all the walls in here upstairs
0:16:48 > 0:16:50and have just started to put new walls in.
0:16:50 > 0:16:52Downstairs, the guys are cracking on
0:16:52 > 0:16:55and removing that flooring very slowly.
0:16:55 > 0:16:57As we push through into the backroom,
0:16:57 > 0:17:00the back of the house is being held up on acrow props - look at it,
0:17:00 > 0:17:02completely taken out in order to make space
0:17:02 > 0:17:05for the pads and the steel, which is the right length...?
0:17:05 > 0:17:07- He's only got it right. - He's got it right!
0:17:07 > 0:17:12Which, of course, will lead through to our beautiful new kitchen area.
0:17:12 > 0:17:14That's the end of a day of delays
0:17:14 > 0:17:16and, as a new day dawns,
0:17:16 > 0:17:20there are nearly 100 builders on site - ho-ho!
0:17:20 > 0:17:22It is a hive of activity,
0:17:22 > 0:17:26and the steels are being fitted to support the upstairs extension.
0:17:26 > 0:17:29The trades of Birmingham are making progress
0:17:29 > 0:17:32and it's purely down to the spirit of these builders.
0:17:32 > 0:17:35See, that's Andy, who has come to do the roof.
0:17:35 > 0:17:37This is his second one. It happens all the time.
0:17:37 > 0:17:38People do one job for us,
0:17:38 > 0:17:40then, all of a sudden, they turn up on the next one,
0:17:40 > 0:17:43miles and miles away, and say, "I came back for another go."
0:17:43 > 0:17:45That's how much they love it.
0:17:45 > 0:17:47The outside walls of the extension are being built
0:17:47 > 0:17:51and the roof on top is also flying up,
0:17:51 > 0:17:54but that's creating a problem for Mr Perryman's garden.
0:17:54 > 0:17:57Can't really do a massive amount till that scaffold has come out,
0:17:57 > 0:17:59cos we haven't got access to get the digger in,
0:17:59 > 0:18:03so it's that scaffolding that is messing everything up, really.
0:18:03 > 0:18:05As soon as that is down, flat out in the garden.
0:18:05 > 0:18:09See, that's not going to happen till the last two days of the build,
0:18:09 > 0:18:11which means that it will be a mad rush at the end.
0:18:11 > 0:18:12Garden!
0:18:12 > 0:18:15So, we are second day in. What do you make of it so far?
0:18:15 > 0:18:17- Fantastic. - Everybody helps each other.
0:18:17 > 0:18:19It's like putting it back into the community.
0:18:19 > 0:18:22You know, you're giving summat back.
0:18:22 > 0:18:25You've got labourers, tradesmen, all working together.
0:18:25 > 0:18:26It's incredible, really, you know?
0:18:26 > 0:18:28We've got all the window fitters up here,
0:18:28 > 0:18:30we've got the plumbers, the electricians,
0:18:30 > 0:18:31we've got joiners in the back,
0:18:31 > 0:18:33and we've got the hoist people,
0:18:33 > 0:18:35who are up doing the hoist for us at the moment,
0:18:35 > 0:18:38and we have got the guys fitting the lift behind us.
0:18:38 > 0:18:39It's pretty busy.
0:18:39 > 0:18:42Busy and wonderful - a great job for a lovely family.
0:18:42 > 0:18:46With any build, we have to listen to what the family want.
0:18:46 > 0:18:50Charlotte is not keen on hoists and wants what we all want -
0:18:50 > 0:18:54for the boys to walk. But we are following expert advice
0:18:54 > 0:18:56to prepare the house for whatever MIGHT happen.
0:18:56 > 0:19:00Gabbers wants to pay her a visit to talk it over.
0:19:00 > 0:19:03'The boys are just so full of laughter
0:19:03 > 0:19:06'and fun and smiles and mischief.'
0:19:06 > 0:19:09It means a lot, actually. I'm quite proud of their humour
0:19:09 > 0:19:11and their, you know...
0:19:11 > 0:19:14because that shows a sort of...an awareness.
0:19:15 > 0:19:18So, one thing that has really been playing on my mind -
0:19:18 > 0:19:20all the advice and consultation we have done
0:19:20 > 0:19:25is that we do need to put a certain amount of stuff in the house
0:19:25 > 0:19:29to help you keep the boys mobile and basically protect your back,
0:19:29 > 0:19:33and what I am really worried about is that that is going to seem
0:19:33 > 0:19:38like...a lack of confidence in the boys and their development.
0:19:38 > 0:19:40And I do appreciate that,
0:19:40 > 0:19:43and the challenge would be then not to use it, wouldn't it?
0:19:43 > 0:19:46I'm sure they'll walk one day.
0:19:46 > 0:19:48I'll send you a video.
0:19:48 > 0:19:51I would love to see that. I really would.
0:19:51 > 0:19:54Gabby is, of course, right to be concerned,
0:19:54 > 0:19:57but if Charlotte's challenge is not to use the hoists,
0:19:57 > 0:20:00I've found a man that might change her mind.
0:20:00 > 0:20:03There's something of a double-edged sword with hoists and things,
0:20:03 > 0:20:06because on the one hand, obviously, they are fantastic,
0:20:06 > 0:20:08because it makes life so much easier.
0:20:08 > 0:20:11- That's right. - On the other, it is a sort of...
0:20:11 > 0:20:14an admission that it's needed. Do you know what I mean?
0:20:14 > 0:20:16That's right. I mean...
0:20:16 > 0:20:19Hoists, they can be used for a variety of uses.
0:20:19 > 0:20:22We do install them for rehabilitation as well.
0:20:22 > 0:20:23We do walking vests for people.
0:20:23 > 0:20:27So it's not just wheelchair to bed, and that kind of thing.
0:20:27 > 0:20:29We can actually use it for rehabilitation purposes as well.
0:20:29 > 0:20:32- Can you?- Yeah, you can have a walking vest.
0:20:32 > 0:20:35Mum is convinced that she is going to get the boys to walk
0:20:35 > 0:20:38at some stage, and so this is a possible practice way
0:20:38 > 0:20:40of using it with a walking vest on them.
0:20:40 > 0:20:43That makes me feel so much better, cos the last thing I wanted,
0:20:43 > 0:20:45with all this work,
0:20:45 > 0:20:48was to look like we didn't have the faith in her boys that she has.
0:20:48 > 0:20:52- Cheers.- You're the man. Thank you. - Thank you so much.- Thank you.
0:20:52 > 0:20:54We are surrounded by geniuses!
0:20:54 > 0:20:56Now we can concentrate on the rest of the build.
0:20:56 > 0:20:58Can we have a noggin in there, sausage?
0:20:58 > 0:21:00And the plasterers are in tomorrow,
0:21:00 > 0:21:03so the electrics need to be fitted to all the walls.
0:21:03 > 0:21:06Today, we will be flying, because yesterday, we had...
0:21:06 > 0:21:08- We didn't have a good day, yesterday, did we?- No.
0:21:08 > 0:21:10We couldn't get anything done.
0:21:10 > 0:21:13But now we are just going to put all the cables in,
0:21:13 > 0:21:16put all the first fix in. That's what we're looking for.
0:21:16 > 0:21:19- That's our aim, innit? - Let's go for it.- Let's go.
0:21:19 > 0:21:21Obviously, you would have seen Billy on the TV before.
0:21:21 > 0:21:23What's he actually like, honestly?
0:21:23 > 0:21:25There's always a downside to a job, isn't there?
0:21:29 > 0:21:32All joking aside, the sterling work that's going on here
0:21:32 > 0:21:34is all in aid of two very special boys,
0:21:34 > 0:21:38and everyone on site's constantly got that on their minds.
0:21:40 > 0:21:43About ten years ago, I had a major motorcycle crash.
0:21:43 > 0:21:47I was in a coma and I couldn't remember anything, nothing.
0:21:47 > 0:21:49I had to learn to eat, talk...
0:21:49 > 0:21:52From that day, I've decided that life's too short to be miserable.
0:21:52 > 0:21:55You have to do some good in life. It's not only down to yourself.
0:21:55 > 0:21:57It's down to other people helping people out.
0:21:57 > 0:21:59Those are the people we work with.
0:21:59 > 0:22:01We stand on the shoulders of giants.
0:22:01 > 0:22:05I want to find out how much this work means to dad Chris.
0:22:05 > 0:22:08What are your ambitions for the boys?
0:22:08 > 0:22:12I just want them to walk and talk and just be the best they can.
0:22:12 > 0:22:15We do both think, deep down, that one day,
0:22:15 > 0:22:17they'll be walking on their own.
0:22:17 > 0:22:22We both...we both believe they will, because I believe in them,
0:22:22 > 0:22:25you know? I really believe in them. Charlotte believes in them as well.
0:22:25 > 0:22:29She's just a fantastic person, you know? She's so strong.
0:22:29 > 0:22:32- You are very proud of her, aren't you?- I am, yeah.
0:22:32 > 0:22:34I love her to bits. She's great.
0:22:34 > 0:22:35There isn't a person on this planet
0:22:35 > 0:22:38that would be a better mother for those boys.
0:22:38 > 0:22:41She's the cornerstone of our family, without a doubt.
0:22:41 > 0:22:44So, despite the fact that she doesn't...she doesn't really
0:22:44 > 0:22:47want hoists and things, if we could do that
0:22:47 > 0:22:48just to take the pressure off her...
0:22:48 > 0:22:51That would be great. And it would mean that
0:22:51 > 0:22:53I don't have to watch her in pain.
0:22:53 > 0:22:56- Especially when you love her so much.- Exactly.
0:22:56 > 0:22:58Especially when I love her so much.
0:22:58 > 0:23:01It was getting pretty...close to the edge, wasn't it,
0:23:01 > 0:23:03in terms of being able to cope
0:23:03 > 0:23:07- and being stuck in... not using most of the house.- Well...
0:23:07 > 0:23:09A lot of the house isn't safe for them.
0:23:09 > 0:23:12They're kind of stuck in the living room.
0:23:12 > 0:23:16- What were you going to do, then? - Well, we haven't really got a plan.
0:23:16 > 0:23:19We just kind of struggle on.
0:23:19 > 0:23:23It would be nice to plan for the future, or have a plan...
0:23:23 > 0:23:26But you're too busy actually getting through today.
0:23:26 > 0:23:28We are too busy getting through day to day.
0:23:28 > 0:23:32I walk in the door from work, and the boys need a routine,
0:23:32 > 0:23:35a strong routine, and sometimes,
0:23:35 > 0:23:38I've got time to drop my bag on the floor and that's it
0:23:38 > 0:23:40until the boys are in bed.
0:23:40 > 0:23:41Jack, if it's not raining,
0:23:41 > 0:23:45he's in the back garden with a ball at his foot and he is always saying,
0:23:45 > 0:23:47"Dad, come and kick a football with me,
0:23:47 > 0:23:48"come and play football with me."
0:23:48 > 0:23:51But I don't always have the time. Charlotte will be doing the dinner
0:23:51 > 0:23:53and I have to keep an eye on the boys.
0:23:53 > 0:23:55I have to be in the room with the boys, they can't be left.
0:23:55 > 0:23:58When I see him sometimes looking over the fence,
0:23:58 > 0:24:02watching the neighbours' kids, it's heartbreaking to think
0:24:02 > 0:24:05that that's what we wanted for him as well, you know?
0:24:05 > 0:24:10Just to have a brother or sister, whatever, that he could play with.
0:24:10 > 0:24:11He loves his brothers,
0:24:11 > 0:24:15and there's nobody that can make them laugh like Jack.
0:24:19 > 0:24:22I can tell what my brothers want or need,
0:24:22 > 0:24:26because Alex does this for drink, or food.
0:24:28 > 0:24:31It makes me sad when my brothers cry,
0:24:31 > 0:24:33but I do my best to make them happy.
0:24:34 > 0:24:36I love looking after my brothers,
0:24:36 > 0:24:40so my mum and dad can, like, have a break for a bit.
0:24:40 > 0:24:42Maybe just sit down.
0:24:44 > 0:24:46Jack is such an extraordinary young lad.
0:24:47 > 0:24:50It's crucial we give him something back
0:24:50 > 0:24:52and, by that, I mean more time with his dad.
0:24:52 > 0:24:55I've got an idea, but it means a total change to the garden
0:24:55 > 0:24:57and lots of replanning.
0:24:58 > 0:25:00- Gabbers, Gabbers...- Mm-hm?
0:25:00 > 0:25:03- Just wanted a quick... No, wait, wait...- Yeah, what?
0:25:03 > 0:25:06Across the back, if we have a flat wall
0:25:06 > 0:25:08and a doorway on each side...
0:25:08 > 0:25:10- I'm so busy... Yeah. - ..and then a net over the top...
0:25:10 > 0:25:12- OK. - ..and just pull that back...
0:25:12 > 0:25:15That will work, if you think about it. A nod would help.
0:25:15 > 0:25:18- OK, yeah, I'll think about it. I'll think about it.- All right.
0:25:18 > 0:25:21I think she just gave me the brush-off,
0:25:21 > 0:25:23she's not taking it seriously.
0:25:23 > 0:25:26- Jules?- Yes.- Jules, darling. OK, something weird has happened.
0:25:26 > 0:25:29- "Weird"?- You know how Nick gets hysterical about the garden
0:25:29 > 0:25:32and has been following me around just talking at me,
0:25:32 > 0:25:35I've been trying to ignore it, but he actually accidentally
0:25:35 > 0:25:36came up with quite a good idea.
0:25:36 > 0:25:40My idea is to build a garden that is Jack's football paradise,
0:25:40 > 0:25:43with artificial grass both horizontally
0:25:43 > 0:25:46and on a vertical wall with a painted goal emblazoned on it,
0:25:46 > 0:25:48topped off by an enormous net
0:25:48 > 0:25:50to stop the ball flying into people's gardens.
0:25:50 > 0:25:53I'm happy, but Chris isn't.
0:25:53 > 0:25:57The floorboards are not here. No comprendo.
0:25:57 > 0:25:59They are still at the builder's merchant,
0:25:59 > 0:26:02cos they have been under-ordered. And it's quite important,
0:26:02 > 0:26:04because it will stop the site in the morning
0:26:04 > 0:26:06by about two or three hours, cos we want to get it plastered.
0:26:06 > 0:26:09Well, one step forward, one step back.
0:26:09 > 0:26:11The kitchen floors are delaying the build
0:26:11 > 0:26:13and talking of floors, Gabbers has decided to
0:26:13 > 0:26:15make some tables out of the parquet wood
0:26:15 > 0:26:18so that Charlotte will have a piece of her nan's house to hold on to.
0:26:18 > 0:26:20But Mark stuck her beloved parquet
0:26:20 > 0:26:23as far away from site as possible, and rightly so.
0:26:23 > 0:26:24We are five days into the build
0:26:24 > 0:26:27and we haven't got any time to mess about with stuff.
0:26:27 > 0:26:29We need the tops made, and I need them made today,
0:26:29 > 0:26:32so my steel guy can make the frames for them.
0:26:32 > 0:26:34So I'll just have to steal some of Mark's guys
0:26:34 > 0:26:35and get them out here and do this,
0:26:35 > 0:26:38cos otherwise it's not going to be done in time.
0:26:38 > 0:26:41- Can I just quickly steal you now? - Yeah, let's go.
0:26:41 > 0:26:42- It'll just be two minutes.- OK.
0:26:42 > 0:26:44Everyone, could I borrow you, please?
0:26:44 > 0:26:47Could you follow me? Everyone out!
0:26:47 > 0:26:49Then we can get it done quickly.
0:26:49 > 0:26:53You can't just clear the whole site and borrow everyone!
0:26:53 > 0:26:57Just have a quick human chain, this is all about time management.
0:26:57 > 0:27:00We have got about five minutes before Miller notices we're here.
0:27:02 > 0:27:04I don't want anyone straining their backs.
0:27:05 > 0:27:08What is your favourite? What do you think?
0:27:08 > 0:27:09- What's it going to be? - What we could do,
0:27:09 > 0:27:12to add some feature to it, is put the square diamond in the middle
0:27:12 > 0:27:15- and set it all off from there. - What are they doing?
0:27:15 > 0:27:17We've got the pattern and the finish,
0:27:17 > 0:27:20now it's all about quality control, keep the best, best ones.
0:27:20 > 0:27:22I think that's pretty good.
0:27:23 > 0:27:26Right, this has gone on far too long.
0:27:26 > 0:27:28Gabs? What the hell are you doing?
0:27:28 > 0:27:31Um...we are just very quickly sorting out some tabletops.
0:27:31 > 0:27:33The whole downstairs of the job has stopped.
0:27:33 > 0:27:35All right, guys, would you mind...
0:27:35 > 0:27:37Thank you very much. ..just cracking on with the rest?
0:27:37 > 0:27:42One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine...ten.
0:27:42 > 0:27:43For that?
0:27:43 > 0:27:45I'm a great fan of yours, Gabs,
0:27:45 > 0:27:46but I think on this one, you've dropped one.
0:27:46 > 0:27:49If each of them has been away, even for half an hour,
0:27:49 > 0:27:52and there's ten of them, that's five man hours we've lost on the job.
0:27:52 > 0:27:54- They weren't away for half an hour. - They were.
0:27:54 > 0:27:56You're getting emotional about this. It's fine.
0:27:56 > 0:27:59- You've actually dropped a clanger, probably ruined the job. - A little bit.
0:27:59 > 0:28:02So, Gabbers has cost us another five hours,
0:28:02 > 0:28:05but at least the electrics are on track...please, Billy?
0:28:05 > 0:28:09It's, like, loads of fingers are all coming through the ceiling,
0:28:09 > 0:28:13running everywhere else, taking electricity to it.
0:28:13 > 0:28:16I've realised... I believe we're maybe a cable short,
0:28:16 > 0:28:18but we'll find it.
0:28:18 > 0:28:19It's somewhere.
0:28:19 > 0:28:25This is a ring main. And that is downstairs lighting...
0:28:25 > 0:28:27This could take some time.
0:28:27 > 0:28:30If there's two cables there then we're all right.
0:28:30 > 0:28:32With the floor not being delivered till tomorrow,
0:28:32 > 0:28:33and no access to the garden,
0:28:33 > 0:28:36Jules has decided to take Chris and Mark to meet the family.
0:28:36 > 0:28:39- Hiya.- You all right? - What's happening, then?
0:28:39 > 0:28:41We thought we'd do a little bit of aikido.
0:28:41 > 0:28:43HE GRUNTS
0:28:43 > 0:28:45Dad Chris and Jack rarely get any time together,
0:28:45 > 0:28:48so we've have made it happen.
0:28:48 > 0:28:50Where have the other two gone, then?
0:28:50 > 0:28:52Cos Chris and Mark came in as well, didn't they?
0:28:52 > 0:28:54I saw them come in, but I don't know where they went.
0:28:54 > 0:28:57I'm so excited. I'm so excited.
0:28:57 > 0:28:59I've got the outfits.
0:28:59 > 0:29:01He may be small, but Jack is a powerhouse.
0:29:01 > 0:29:03Prepare for a beating, boys.
0:29:06 > 0:29:08HE LAUGHS
0:29:08 > 0:29:09Are you sure this is the right stuff?
0:29:09 > 0:29:11Yeah, that's what she said in the shop.
0:29:11 > 0:29:13How have the twins been doing since we started?
0:29:13 > 0:29:15Dylan has been out of his routine,
0:29:15 > 0:29:17so he gets a little bit uncomfortable with that.
0:29:17 > 0:29:19But he's adjusted better than I thought,
0:29:19 > 0:29:21so it's gone all right.
0:29:21 > 0:29:23I've got mine on back to front.
0:29:24 > 0:29:26- Oh... - MARK LAUGHS
0:29:26 > 0:29:28All right, I didn't read the instructions.
0:29:28 > 0:29:30It's my first time.
0:29:30 > 0:29:32Boys, they might be both Japanese,
0:29:32 > 0:29:35but you've got your martial arts mixed up here, I think.
0:29:35 > 0:29:37We've got the wrong stuff, haven't we?
0:29:37 > 0:29:40- You've made us look ridiculous now. - You're not wrong there.
0:29:40 > 0:29:44The question is, who will win - sumo wrestling or akaidu?
0:29:44 > 0:29:45Ak...aikido...
0:29:45 > 0:29:49- Come on, Jack, go and throw him. - Go on, Jack, show what you can do.
0:29:50 > 0:29:52Now, that's the advantage of having long arms.
0:29:52 > 0:29:53THEY LAUGH
0:29:53 > 0:29:57Oh, this isn't fair - maybe someone his own height, perhaps?
0:30:00 > 0:30:01Nice throw, Jack.
0:30:01 > 0:30:02Go on, Jack.
0:30:04 > 0:30:06Well done. You know, I've been wanting to do that for ages.
0:30:08 > 0:30:10- THUD! - Oh!
0:30:10 > 0:30:12Oh! Right in the prawn crackers!
0:30:12 > 0:30:14THEY LAUGH
0:30:14 > 0:30:16That's the killer shot.
0:30:17 > 0:30:18NICK LAUGHS
0:30:18 > 0:30:19Oh, that's fantastic.
0:30:19 > 0:30:22Back on site, there's a delivery for Chris.
0:30:22 > 0:30:28There it is - that there is your typical kitchen floor.
0:30:28 > 0:30:30And it looks like Mark has recovered from his battering.
0:30:30 > 0:30:33- SQUEAKY VOICE:- Even though we've got the floor solved,
0:30:33 > 0:30:35it's knocked the plastering quite far behind,
0:30:35 > 0:30:37cos we were supposed to be in the kitchen first thing today,
0:30:37 > 0:30:39getting that all plastered and skimmed,
0:30:39 > 0:30:42so poor old Chris is up against it now.
0:30:42 > 0:30:45I think you might need to put some ice cubes on those.
0:30:47 > 0:30:49While Chris and his lads crack on with the floor,
0:30:49 > 0:30:51the garden is a far cry from the vision I had
0:30:51 > 0:30:53of a football pitch for Jack.
0:30:53 > 0:30:55Jules will be pulling his hair out.
0:30:55 > 0:30:57Well, he hasn't got any, really, has he?
0:30:57 > 0:30:59Where is the worried man in the garden?
0:30:59 > 0:31:02You go down to the cabin, he'll have his shoes off,
0:31:02 > 0:31:04shorts on, chocolate muffin,
0:31:04 > 0:31:06having a coffee, talking about materials.
0:31:06 > 0:31:09Yeah, I'll take delivery as soon as possible.
0:31:09 > 0:31:13See, the thing is, it might look like I'm not doing much
0:31:13 > 0:31:16but, really, this is the nerve centre. This is the hub.
0:31:16 > 0:31:18See, Chris doesn't understand that.
0:31:18 > 0:31:21He thinks it all happens, but...you know...
0:31:21 > 0:31:23it takes a lot of work,
0:31:23 > 0:31:27this...ordering of plants and materials.
0:31:28 > 0:31:32Meanwhile, back in the real world I like to call building a house...
0:31:32 > 0:31:36We, collectively, are going to clear the floors in the downstairs,
0:31:36 > 0:31:39cos we've got to put this 100 bags of self-leveller
0:31:39 > 0:31:42on that floor this evening.
0:31:42 > 0:31:44So that's what we're doing.
0:31:49 > 0:31:52We've got just two days until we finish and there's so much to do.
0:31:52 > 0:31:55At least Chris can finally get on with the plastering.
0:31:55 > 0:31:57Right, if I take you in and show you the kitchen...
0:31:57 > 0:31:58I mean, it looks scary,
0:31:58 > 0:32:00but there will be lads in a minute,
0:32:00 > 0:32:03prepping this, and it'll all click.
0:32:03 > 0:32:05And just like that...
0:32:05 > 0:32:07All the plastering is done!
0:32:07 > 0:32:09Ready for the decorators.
0:32:09 > 0:32:11And someone else is in a good mood.
0:32:11 > 0:32:14As you can see, the scaffold is coming down,
0:32:14 > 0:32:18I'm very, very excited about being able to start the garden.
0:32:18 > 0:32:19It's OK.
0:32:19 > 0:32:21It's going to be spectacular.
0:32:21 > 0:32:22Whoo-hoo!
0:32:22 > 0:32:25With this positive attitude, we can do anything today.
0:32:25 > 0:32:28We are all having a really nice time in the sunshine,
0:32:28 > 0:32:30laughing and joking and cuddling each other
0:32:30 > 0:32:33and doing all those things that people do on SOS.
0:32:33 > 0:32:38And then I looked at my list and nothing had actually vanished.
0:32:38 > 0:32:40My list has actually got longer.
0:32:40 > 0:32:42We've got to finish the plumbing off,
0:32:42 > 0:32:43we've got three windows to be fitted,
0:32:43 > 0:32:45we've got three doors... Tiling.
0:32:45 > 0:32:47Got to have these hoists in today.
0:32:47 > 0:32:50Both skips are full and we have a house full of rubbish.
0:32:50 > 0:32:53We've got to get kitchen in today. And all that's got to go in.
0:32:53 > 0:32:56I need a 600 by 600 P plus.
0:32:56 > 0:32:59I don't even know what that is, but it's being added to the list,
0:32:59 > 0:33:02and Mark is feeling the pressure.
0:33:02 > 0:33:04He thinks that everything -
0:33:04 > 0:33:07the garden, the house - is way behind.
0:33:07 > 0:33:09I'm more than confident with the garden,
0:33:09 > 0:33:12because I've sat down in my office for two days and planned it.
0:33:12 > 0:33:15That's his problem. He spends too much time
0:33:15 > 0:33:17running around like a headless chicken
0:33:17 > 0:33:19and not planning properly.
0:33:19 > 0:33:23Cos we are...we are on the crest of the wave out here.
0:33:23 > 0:33:25We're surfing.
0:33:25 > 0:33:29This might distract the eejit from his list for a while.
0:33:29 > 0:33:31It's a flippin' delivery of ladies.
0:33:31 > 0:33:34- And I tell you what, they've got cake.- It's amazing!
0:33:34 > 0:33:37MUSIC: Here Come The Girls by Sugababes
0:33:37 > 0:33:40Just wanted to stop by on our way to the races
0:33:40 > 0:33:42because we're friends, family,
0:33:42 > 0:33:45we're staff from the school that Alex and Dylan go to,
0:33:45 > 0:33:47so we just wanted to say thank you.
0:33:47 > 0:33:50CHEERING
0:33:50 > 0:33:51Isn't that fantastic?
0:33:51 > 0:33:53While Mark is preoccupied with the girls,
0:33:53 > 0:33:55Gabbers has managed to sneak off
0:33:55 > 0:33:58to see how her parquet-floor tables are doing.
0:33:58 > 0:34:02We had to work out exactly what the sizes need to be,
0:34:02 > 0:34:04so they fitted without any silly little cuts,
0:34:04 > 0:34:06so they all look symmetrical.
0:34:06 > 0:34:08It took three days to work it out!
0:34:08 > 0:34:11Don't say that! Don't tell anybody that, OK?
0:34:11 > 0:34:15I'll be in such big trouble. I'm in trouble enough.
0:34:15 > 0:34:17So we'll just say it was a ten-minute job.
0:34:17 > 0:34:18Just ten minutes...
0:34:18 > 0:34:20And only ten minutes into his garden,
0:34:20 > 0:34:24the access to get materials in for Jules is going to be blocked again.
0:34:24 > 0:34:28This is because both the front and back ramps are being laid
0:34:28 > 0:34:30and can't be stepped on whilst they're going down.
0:34:32 > 0:34:35The people out the front want to know, can they close this off now?
0:34:35 > 0:34:37Do you need any more stuff in here?
0:34:37 > 0:34:39Why don't you just have a blast now
0:34:39 > 0:34:42and get some hardcore in and put it in a pile somewhere?
0:34:42 > 0:34:43Yeah, we haven't really set...
0:34:43 > 0:34:46We haven't got set levels, really...as well,
0:34:46 > 0:34:49to know how much hardcore to bring in.
0:34:49 > 0:34:51You don't seem very organised, Julian.
0:34:51 > 0:34:54HE SIGHS
0:34:54 > 0:34:57- Look, just do what you want. - No, no - you can say that, either.
0:34:57 > 0:34:58That's an abdication of duty.
0:34:58 > 0:35:01The front is not my department, all right?
0:35:01 > 0:35:06- Is that how we work on these sites? - Yeah, but I can't take...
0:35:06 > 0:35:09Is that the view that these people that have turned up to help us have taken?
0:35:09 > 0:35:11"That's not my job"?
0:35:11 > 0:35:13I can't be responsible for planning the front,
0:35:13 > 0:35:16cos I'm out the back. This is my domain, the back.
0:35:16 > 0:35:19Yes, Jules, but you've got to be responsible, partly,
0:35:19 > 0:35:22for the front, because otherwise, you can't get to the back.
0:35:24 > 0:35:25Well, yeah, there is that.
0:35:25 > 0:35:27Whilst he thinks it out,
0:35:27 > 0:35:30it's worth saying the progress in the garden is frustrating,
0:35:30 > 0:35:34but nothing compared to what the family's been through the last four years,
0:35:34 > 0:35:37and Charlotte's sister Ellie has seen that first hand.
0:35:37 > 0:35:39- Certainly, your sister needed some help.- She did.
0:35:39 > 0:35:41She doesn't like to say so, does she?
0:35:41 > 0:35:43No, she doesn't. She's quite strong.
0:35:43 > 0:35:44I think she's had to have been.
0:35:44 > 0:35:46Do you think this will make a big difference?
0:35:46 > 0:35:49- If we get the house sorted out? - A phenomenal difference.
0:35:49 > 0:35:51I...I can't even begin to...
0:35:51 > 0:35:53I can't even begin to imagine
0:35:53 > 0:35:56what a difference it's going to make, actually,
0:35:56 > 0:35:59because...it's breaking them.
0:35:59 > 0:36:03- It's actually breaking them. - Hmm.- And...
0:36:03 > 0:36:07it's going to be huge, we're so excited about the future,
0:36:07 > 0:36:09knowing that this sort of thing is around
0:36:09 > 0:36:12and that there are people here, helping.
0:36:12 > 0:36:15Yeah, and all of them determined
0:36:15 > 0:36:17to make this house right for the family.
0:36:17 > 0:36:20I want to see how things have been for Charlotte.
0:36:22 > 0:36:26Do you sometimes pinch yourself, to realise the situation you're in?
0:36:26 > 0:36:28I think about the twins
0:36:28 > 0:36:30and how they have found themselves in this situation,
0:36:30 > 0:36:32when, you know...
0:36:32 > 0:36:35I mean, all they did was got born.
0:36:35 > 0:36:37Forgive me for asking, but from the outside,
0:36:37 > 0:36:40it's not necessarily easy to tell - what do you get back from the twins?
0:36:40 > 0:36:44Every little new thing they do, you know, that's brilliant,
0:36:44 > 0:36:47and text messages and phone calls go round the whole family.
0:36:47 > 0:36:51'That's fantastic. It really is. It's a tonic.
0:36:51 > 0:36:53'They thoroughly enjoy life
0:36:53 > 0:36:57'and we just try and make it as easy as we can for them.'
0:36:57 > 0:36:59You've got one! Yay!
0:36:59 > 0:37:01I think we've come up with some really good ideas.
0:37:01 > 0:37:04Have you thought about what life will be like
0:37:04 > 0:37:07- if we get the house right?- Um...
0:37:09 > 0:37:12- You haven't, have you? - No. Not really.
0:37:12 > 0:37:15- You live really in the present. - I think I do, yeah.
0:37:15 > 0:37:18Deal with what's in front of you today.
0:37:18 > 0:37:20- Yeah.- No ambitions for yourself?
0:37:20 > 0:37:23I wanted to be a lawyer, I wanted to be a solicitor,
0:37:23 > 0:37:25and that's what I wanted to do with my life.
0:37:25 > 0:37:28I did do really well. The degree I got was a first-class degree.
0:37:28 > 0:37:31We kind of just had to stop and think, "This is where I am."
0:37:31 > 0:37:35'And I've got this job to do and, in a lot of ways,
0:37:35 > 0:37:37'it is the best job in the world.'
0:37:37 > 0:37:39You said to Gabby that you'd carry them to the ends of the Earth.
0:37:39 > 0:37:41The difficulty is,
0:37:41 > 0:37:43for us to safety-proof the house for the future,
0:37:43 > 0:37:45we have to put hoists in,
0:37:45 > 0:37:47but you're not very comfortable with that.
0:37:47 > 0:37:48It just seems a long way off.
0:37:48 > 0:37:51I don't know. Yeah, I think you're right, actually.
0:37:51 > 0:37:53Why is it a long way off if it's hurting your back now?
0:37:53 > 0:37:55I think you're right, I think it's because...
0:37:55 > 0:37:58It is perhaps because I see it as a sign of...
0:37:58 > 0:38:00I don't want to admit that I can't do it for them, either.
0:38:00 > 0:38:02Do you worry about the future?
0:38:02 > 0:38:04I try...
0:38:04 > 0:38:07It's in a "too difficult to deal with" box, really, the future,
0:38:07 > 0:38:09cos I don't know what the future holds -
0:38:09 > 0:38:12nobody really does - but specifically with the boys,
0:38:12 > 0:38:16cos we don't really have any sort of diagnosis as such,
0:38:16 > 0:38:19we don't know where they'll end up, and then...
0:38:21 > 0:38:22It does worry me.
0:38:22 > 0:38:26I just deal with what I'm given and deal with it in the way that I deal with it,
0:38:26 > 0:38:27which might not be the best way,
0:38:27 > 0:38:30but it's kind of the only way I know.
0:38:30 > 0:38:31You have built such a wall up.
0:38:31 > 0:38:33Are you not worried that it will break?
0:38:33 > 0:38:36It's like a dam going, do you know what I mean?
0:38:36 > 0:38:39- It just can't.- It can't? - You just decide it can't, yeah.
0:38:39 > 0:38:41I made a decision on that one.
0:38:41 > 0:38:44If we make the house easier to use,
0:38:44 > 0:38:46will you try and take a moment for yourself?
0:38:46 > 0:38:48I'll try.
0:38:50 > 0:38:53I don't think I know how to do that any more.
0:38:54 > 0:38:56Well, there's only one day left,
0:38:56 > 0:38:59and the boys are girding their loins and gathering up
0:38:59 > 0:39:01and going for it once again.
0:39:01 > 0:39:04They are determined to get this house right.
0:39:04 > 0:39:07I've got kids myself, as well, so, yeah, just...
0:39:07 > 0:39:10You know, everybody has their trouble, don't they?
0:39:10 > 0:39:13Get the little boys back on their feet, you know,
0:39:13 > 0:39:16in a better environment, that's what we're looking for.
0:39:16 > 0:39:18Tarmac is going down to create a front path -
0:39:18 > 0:39:20lovely stuff, this isn't...
0:39:20 > 0:39:21HE CHOKES
0:39:21 > 0:39:23Inside, the lift is going in, too.
0:39:23 > 0:39:26It's like Jodrell Bank in there - but very handy, cos essentially,
0:39:26 > 0:39:28this turns the house into a bungalow.
0:39:28 > 0:39:29It means there's access all areas.
0:39:29 > 0:39:33There are decorators in and the hoists are being fitted,
0:39:33 > 0:39:35and these can make a real difference.
0:39:35 > 0:39:37Going to completely change
0:39:37 > 0:39:40how she sees using the hoist, don't you think?
0:39:40 > 0:39:43They want to get about and they're really frustrated
0:39:43 > 0:39:45and I think they'll really enjoy this.
0:39:45 > 0:39:48Jack's bed is being finished off - fantastic, it is.
0:39:48 > 0:39:51And the same guys have also finished the parquet tables.
0:39:51 > 0:39:54They're lovely, and a reminder of Grandma.
0:39:54 > 0:39:56- Oh, that's pretty. - They are beautiful.
0:39:56 > 0:39:58Don't they look good?
0:39:58 > 0:40:01But the big sticking point is still the back garden.
0:40:01 > 0:40:03I am determined that we are going to create
0:40:03 > 0:40:05a wonderful place for young Jack.
0:40:05 > 0:40:07It's just we've only got a day left,
0:40:07 > 0:40:11and Jules is like a large balloon with a slow puncture.
0:40:11 > 0:40:14- I feel a bit deflated now. - I do, to be honest.
0:40:14 > 0:40:17- We'll get it done. - I'm glad you're confident.
0:40:17 > 0:40:20I wouldn't be - we need to build a football wall,
0:40:20 > 0:40:22level the ground and put down artificial grass,
0:40:22 > 0:40:24build the raised beds out of railway sleepers,
0:40:24 > 0:40:27fill them with 20 tonnes of topsoil, put the plants in, pave the patio,
0:40:27 > 0:40:29get some swings in and a trampoline...
0:40:29 > 0:40:31And it's all my fault.
0:40:33 > 0:40:35At the end of the day, without being able to have the time
0:40:35 > 0:40:38to lay the brick in and make a brick wall,
0:40:38 > 0:40:40sleepers seemed the best way.
0:40:40 > 0:40:43The trouble is, we've been at a point
0:40:43 > 0:40:46where we've had to make decisions and Jules hasn't been up to it.
0:40:46 > 0:40:48- What was that?- I was just saying
0:40:48 > 0:40:50how well you'd done in the back garden...
0:40:50 > 0:40:51- Oh, thanks(!) - ..over the last few days.
0:40:51 > 0:40:54- Thank you very much. - You were giving me evils.
0:40:54 > 0:40:55- I wasn't. - You were giving me evils.
0:40:55 > 0:40:58I was wondering what ridiculous plan you'd come up with this time.
0:40:58 > 0:41:00It wasn't... I have stuck to the same plan.
0:41:00 > 0:41:02Since someone had to make a decision, I made a decision.
0:41:02 > 0:41:04Come on, we're holding all these guys up,
0:41:04 > 0:41:06they want to get on.
0:41:06 > 0:41:09We're yapping in the middle of them all - let's step out and let the work commence.
0:41:11 > 0:41:15Who gave him a positivity pill in the last 15 minutes?
0:41:15 > 0:41:17It is true - time is running out.
0:41:17 > 0:41:20Inside, Gabbers has designed bespoke storage space
0:41:20 > 0:41:23so our chippies are right up against it.
0:41:23 > 0:41:25Something's got to go.
0:41:25 > 0:41:29- It is what it is.- We need all of it. - No, it is what it is.
0:41:29 > 0:41:34We are bottomed out on...on personnel and time and access.
0:41:34 > 0:41:38So, if we have to drop something, it's got to be the panelling.
0:41:38 > 0:41:40Yes, the panelling has got to go.
0:41:40 > 0:41:42We can do the panelling for you.
0:41:42 > 0:41:44I know it's simple, but we don't have time.
0:41:44 > 0:41:47Have we really got time, with everything else?
0:41:47 > 0:41:49We're pretty much up against it, aren't we?
0:41:49 > 0:41:53- We're back on to that now.- What? Back onto what?
0:41:53 > 0:41:56- The panelling.- No, we can't panel it, we haven't enough time.
0:41:56 > 0:41:58- He says... They say they can. - I'm not...
0:41:58 > 0:42:00- Don't give me the scary psycho look. - It's not her.
0:42:00 > 0:42:02We've got to get this house finished.
0:42:02 > 0:42:04We need skirtings on, shelves in, we need that in,
0:42:04 > 0:42:06need the doors finished, then we're out.
0:42:06 > 0:42:08But if the chippies say they can do it,
0:42:08 > 0:42:10who are we to tell them they can't?
0:42:10 > 0:42:13- No panelling! No panelling! - Mate, I think you've lost this one.
0:42:13 > 0:42:15- No, there is no panelling. - I think you've lost it.
0:42:15 > 0:42:19We need to get this family into the house and get this house working.
0:42:19 > 0:42:22- I don't know why you're telling me. - Warren, no, please - don't.
0:42:22 > 0:42:23All right.
0:42:23 > 0:42:26I'm confused now. Does that mean we are or aren't doing panelling?
0:42:27 > 0:42:30Yes, this build is taking on a life of its own.
0:42:30 > 0:42:32The house is getting its finishing touches
0:42:32 > 0:42:35and Gabby's vision is becoming a reality.
0:42:37 > 0:42:39But in the garden, with hours to go,
0:42:39 > 0:42:42my design for Jack is in serious jeopardy.
0:42:42 > 0:42:46It's getting late, and there's a mountain to climb.
0:42:46 > 0:42:49We haven't really got anything for here.
0:42:49 > 0:42:52These guys, flat out, are an inspiration.
0:42:52 > 0:42:54I know we can do it, cos you're a crack team.
0:42:54 > 0:42:57I am missing my son's first birthday today.
0:42:57 > 0:42:59We'd better get it done.
0:42:59 > 0:43:01It's all for a good cause, though.
0:43:01 > 0:43:03With the house finished...
0:43:04 > 0:43:06CHEERING
0:43:06 > 0:43:08LAUGHTER
0:43:08 > 0:43:11..there's still no cause for celebration in the garden.
0:43:13 > 0:43:16It's going to be a long night.
0:43:23 > 0:43:27Nine days ago, we met a family trapped by their house.
0:43:27 > 0:43:30Definitely feel like a prisoner in the living room.
0:43:30 > 0:43:32Being in the house can be depressing.
0:43:32 > 0:43:35They couldn't look forward.
0:43:35 > 0:43:37It would be nice to plan for the future
0:43:37 > 0:43:39or, you know, have a plan.
0:43:39 > 0:43:41We are too busy getting through day to day.
0:43:41 > 0:43:44The twins are only going to get bigger,
0:43:44 > 0:43:46the boys would be forced to live down here,
0:43:46 > 0:43:49we'd probably all be living in the living room.
0:43:49 > 0:43:52It...it really doesn't bear thinking about, to be honest.
0:43:52 > 0:43:54Come here. Let's get you in it.
0:43:54 > 0:43:58Despite all this, Chris and Charlotte have never given up
0:43:58 > 0:44:00on the hope that the twins will make progress.
0:44:00 > 0:44:05I just want them to walk and talk and just be the best they can.
0:44:05 > 0:44:08We just want them to be the best they can.
0:44:08 > 0:44:10But their house was getting in the way.
0:44:10 > 0:44:13We're desperate and we don't know what else to do.
0:44:13 > 0:44:17We don't know where to start or what we can do
0:44:17 > 0:44:20to give the boys what they deserve.
0:44:20 > 0:44:22It's breaking them. It's actually breaking them.
0:44:22 > 0:44:25It's fair to say the family were desperate.
0:44:25 > 0:44:28She said to me she'd carry those boys to the end of the Earth, but...
0:44:28 > 0:44:30She wants to do that, but she can't.
0:44:32 > 0:44:35The troops were called to the rescue and in just nine days,
0:44:35 > 0:44:38these brave Brummies have given this family a chance
0:44:38 > 0:44:41to take their first steps towards a happier future.
0:44:45 > 0:44:47We turned a cramped three-bedroom house
0:44:47 > 0:44:49into a four-bedroom family home.
0:44:50 > 0:44:53A ramp will mean getting through the front door
0:44:53 > 0:44:55will no longer be the challenge it was.
0:44:55 > 0:44:58The walls at the back of the house have been removed
0:44:58 > 0:45:00to create a large kitchen-diner extension -
0:45:00 > 0:45:04a place the whole family can enjoy and have mealtimes together.
0:45:06 > 0:45:09The boys only went and completed the panel wall -
0:45:09 > 0:45:11what a beautiful feature it is.
0:45:14 > 0:45:16A lift has been added
0:45:16 > 0:45:19so Charlotte doesn't need to struggle up the stairs.
0:45:21 > 0:45:24The adjoining wet room comes with a changing table and hoist
0:45:24 > 0:45:28so that bath-time is no longer a backbreaking affair.
0:45:29 > 0:45:32Gone are the days of imprisonment in the living room.
0:45:32 > 0:45:36The wall has been knocked down to create a large, open space
0:45:36 > 0:45:38that they can relax in together.
0:45:39 > 0:45:41Upstairs, the boys have been separated
0:45:41 > 0:45:44into two different rooms,
0:45:44 > 0:45:47so they'll no longer keep each other up during the night.
0:45:47 > 0:45:50Each room reflects their personalities,
0:45:50 > 0:45:53and both come with a hoist and walking harness
0:45:53 > 0:45:56to get these boys on their feet.
0:45:56 > 0:45:58The extension has also created a brand-new room
0:45:58 > 0:46:01for Charlotte and Chris to relax and unwind in.
0:46:03 > 0:46:07There's also a luxurious wet room upstairs for the whole family.
0:46:09 > 0:46:12Jack's room may not have changed structurally,
0:46:12 > 0:46:15but a high-raised bed has been added to maximise the space
0:46:15 > 0:46:19and to give Jack a place to hang out in underneath.
0:46:19 > 0:46:22But the question is, did they finish the garden?
0:46:23 > 0:46:25Back of the net!
0:46:25 > 0:46:29These champion league stars have made a garden fit for a pro
0:46:29 > 0:46:31AND a place where Chris and Jack
0:46:31 > 0:46:35can get the father-and-son time they desperately craved.
0:46:37 > 0:46:40If you're ready, open your eyes.
0:46:42 > 0:46:44SHE LAUGHS
0:46:44 > 0:46:45- You can't?- No, I can't!
0:46:48 > 0:46:50Come on. Time to open your eyes.
0:46:55 > 0:46:58This is...like a different house, totally.
0:46:58 > 0:47:00Wow... Look at all this space!
0:47:02 > 0:47:04- There's a lift.- I know.
0:47:06 > 0:47:10You'll be able to get them upstairs without breaking your back any more.
0:47:10 > 0:47:14I'll be able to keep the boys with us, upstairs.
0:47:15 > 0:47:18I can picture the boys, I can...
0:47:19 > 0:47:22- SHE SOBS - Look at this.
0:47:26 > 0:47:28- I love the kitchen.- So do I.
0:47:28 > 0:47:32There is loads and loads of storage, extractor fan, beautiful hob...
0:47:32 > 0:47:36- Just absolutely beyond belief. - SHE GASPS
0:47:36 > 0:47:40- I feel like I can't breathe. - It's beyond belief.
0:47:40 > 0:47:42This is all new house.
0:47:43 > 0:47:46- Nine days. - CHRIS LAUGHS
0:47:46 > 0:47:47Wow!
0:47:48 > 0:47:50You saw, over in the corner,
0:47:50 > 0:47:52a little desk, a little writing desk.
0:47:52 > 0:47:54- Did you notice that? - I did notice that.
0:47:54 > 0:47:55Cos obviously, someday,
0:47:55 > 0:47:58you're going to go back to being a lawyer or something, aren't you?
0:47:58 > 0:48:01- That would be nice. - You'll find a way to do something.
0:48:02 > 0:48:04You have to do...
0:48:04 > 0:48:06After our discussion the other day,
0:48:06 > 0:48:08you've got such huge ambitions for the boys -
0:48:08 > 0:48:10and quite rightly, too -
0:48:10 > 0:48:12but you mustn't let go of your own ambitions.
0:48:12 > 0:48:14It doesn't have to be that way. You'll find a way to do it.
0:48:14 > 0:48:17You will find a way to do it, cos you find a way to do everything.
0:48:17 > 0:48:19As a family, you find a way to do everything.
0:48:19 > 0:48:21- Oh, wow!- I love it!
0:48:24 > 0:48:26CHRIS LAUGHS
0:48:27 > 0:48:29- Wow...- Look at this.
0:48:29 > 0:48:31First of the hoists that I am going to show you.
0:48:31 > 0:48:34The bathroom, as they get bigger, you want to be able to take them
0:48:34 > 0:48:37out of the chair and put them on the mat.
0:48:37 > 0:48:40That is what that is for - to help with that situation.
0:48:42 > 0:48:44- But the bathroom is a beautiful bathroom, isn't it?- It is.
0:48:44 > 0:48:47- It is.- Absolutely. Look at it, it's just amazing.
0:48:47 > 0:48:49It's got what we need, but...
0:48:49 > 0:48:52It's got what we need, but it's got so much more as well.
0:48:52 > 0:48:53Come this way.
0:48:55 > 0:48:57- This is...- Oh, my God!
0:48:58 > 0:49:00SHE GASPS
0:49:00 > 0:49:02Look at the boys!
0:49:02 > 0:49:03Oh, wow!
0:49:05 > 0:49:07Oh, my God.
0:49:07 > 0:49:10- Come and have a seat.- We were kind of trapped in this room, weren't we?
0:49:10 > 0:49:12But look at it now.
0:49:12 > 0:49:16- I wouldn't even mind being trapped in it now.- No.
0:49:16 > 0:49:19- It's just got... It's the space. - Yeah.
0:49:19 > 0:49:22It's the space for the boys.
0:49:22 > 0:49:25SHE SOBS
0:49:25 > 0:49:27Do you know, the other day,
0:49:27 > 0:49:30you asked me what it was I thought you were doing
0:49:30 > 0:49:31or what it was I wanted,
0:49:31 > 0:49:34and people have asked me that a lot, and...
0:49:35 > 0:49:38I don't think I dared to dream, I don't think...
0:49:38 > 0:49:41I couldn't have imagined this in my wildest dreams.
0:49:41 > 0:49:43It's just all so perfect. It really is.
0:49:43 > 0:49:47It's just what the boys need, it's what we need.
0:49:47 > 0:49:50It's the best thing in the world.
0:49:50 > 0:49:54People that have given up time with their family
0:49:54 > 0:49:56and time with their jobs and everything like that
0:49:56 > 0:49:59to do this for us is just...
0:49:59 > 0:50:03It's... It's just phenomenal. It's just unbelievable.
0:50:03 > 0:50:06I asked you the other day whether you could see a future,
0:50:06 > 0:50:10and you said you just didn't think like that.
0:50:10 > 0:50:11You didn't think ahead.
0:50:11 > 0:50:15I'll get the boys walking here. I will. I will, I promise.
0:50:17 > 0:50:19This is the place I could do it.
0:50:19 > 0:50:21The boys can be the best they can be here.
0:50:21 > 0:50:23I can see that now.
0:50:24 > 0:50:27CHOKED UP: Well, that's me ruined, as well.
0:50:27 > 0:50:28THEY LAUGH
0:50:28 > 0:50:31Don't need to bounce off the banisters,
0:50:31 > 0:50:33cos they'll be in the lift.
0:50:33 > 0:50:35Look at the size of our hall.
0:50:35 > 0:50:37THEY LAUGH
0:50:37 > 0:50:38How has it ever got this big?
0:50:41 > 0:50:43Oh, look at this!
0:50:43 > 0:50:47- Look at his bed. - This is a proper little boy's room.

0:50:52 > 0:50:55No more trying to squeeze him into a cot.
0:50:55 > 0:50:58Remember the problem we talked about?
0:50:58 > 0:51:02Hoists, admitting defeat, not wanting to admit defeat
0:51:02 > 0:51:05and, like, you're determined that they're going to walk?
0:51:05 > 0:51:08OK - these are walking harnesses.
0:51:09 > 0:51:12So, essentially, you put them in here,
0:51:12 > 0:51:14they can learn to walk, up and down.
0:51:14 > 0:51:17Oh...that would just be the best.
0:51:21 > 0:51:23That's brilliant.
0:51:23 > 0:51:25So a hoist doesn't have to be a bad thing,
0:51:25 > 0:51:27doesn't have to be an admission of defeat.
0:51:27 > 0:51:31It can actually be part of your ongoing plan.
0:51:31 > 0:51:33That's fantastic.
0:51:33 > 0:51:37I didn't know such a thing existed, I didn't know...

0:53:26 > 0:53:28I couldn't have dreamt of any of this,
0:53:28 > 0:53:31but I think coming in here and walking in here
0:53:31 > 0:53:34and seeing the difference and the fact that...so many things
0:53:34 > 0:53:37that I couldn't have even thought about or dreamt about,
0:53:37 > 0:53:40and how much better it's going to be,
0:53:40 > 0:53:43it's...it's just phenomenal.
