0:00:02 > 0:00:04Most of us take our freedom for granted,

0:00:04 > 0:00:08but for Antonia, it's a distant dream.

0:00:08 > 0:00:11I've been in hospitals for

0:00:11 > 0:00:14pretty much the whole of the last three years.

0:00:15 > 0:00:18We were only going in for one day, and we didn't ever come out.

0:00:19 > 0:00:23Her condition is pulling a loving family apart.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27It does fill you with a lot of guilt.

0:00:27 > 0:00:29You can see how much pain she's in,

0:00:29 > 0:00:34and you can see how frustrated she is and how limited she is.

0:00:34 > 0:00:35That's really, really tough.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39Kept prisoner by a debilitating illness,

0:00:39 > 0:00:44Antonia's watching the best years of her life pass her by.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47I want to be able to be a normal teenager,

0:00:47 > 0:00:50and do normal teenager things,

0:00:50 > 0:00:56and just be able to be independent and just go home.

0:00:56 > 0:00:59But there's nowhere to go, so...

0:00:59 > 0:01:00I can't go.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04'And that's where we step in.

0:01:04 > 0:01:07'This brave girl and her family need their lives back.

0:01:07 > 0:01:11'We'll try to give it to them, whatever this build throws at us.'

0:01:11 > 0:01:13- I think we have to send them home early.- Right, OK, I'll do that.

0:01:13 > 0:01:15It's just not safe, is it?

0:01:15 > 0:01:18'And we're ready to give it our best shot.'

0:01:18 > 0:01:23- You can't just take seven things that people like and nail them together...- Yes, I can!

0:01:23 > 0:01:26Oh, my gosh! Look at our kitchen!

0:01:26 > 0:01:28Wow.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30We have just nine days to carry out the build.

0:01:30 > 0:01:31The usual suspects are here,

0:01:31 > 0:01:33and our designer this week is Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.

0:01:33 > 0:01:35- Hello.- You come from round this area.

0:01:35 > 0:01:37We're bordering on my land.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40Where are we going to find an army of helpers, Laurence?

0:01:40 > 0:01:41Well, luckily I brought this lot with me.

0:01:43 > 0:01:45This is DIY SOS!

0:01:45 > 0:01:47THEY CHEER

0:01:55 > 0:01:59Antonia and her brother Samuel were bought up by their mum, Victoria,

0:01:59 > 0:02:02a teacher, in a small village in Worcestershire.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07She was happy and healthy until, at four years old,

0:02:07 > 0:02:10she was struck by a mysterious illness.

0:02:10 > 0:02:13She just had what seemed to be seizures.

0:02:13 > 0:02:17It was just an awful time, because we didn't know what was happening.

0:02:18 > 0:02:23To watch and not know, when you actually, you, as a parent,

0:02:23 > 0:02:27just want to make everything right, yeah, it does feel quite helpless.

0:02:29 > 0:02:32As she got older, Antonia did appear to improve,

0:02:32 > 0:02:35and it seemed that family life could get back to normal.

0:02:36 > 0:02:39Antonia had dance clubs and Mum was doing something as well,

0:02:39 > 0:02:42and we all had all of our own kind of little lives as well,

0:02:42 > 0:02:44which we were all kind of orchestrating together.

0:02:44 > 0:02:46She had an amazing group of friends,

0:02:46 > 0:02:51used to camp out in the garden and laugh a lot, and it was the best,

0:02:51 > 0:02:54I think she would say it was the best time of her life, really.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57But then, four years ago, at the age of 14,

0:02:57 > 0:03:01Antonia took a dramatic turn for the worse.

0:03:01 > 0:03:04Suddenly, she started collapsing.

0:03:04 > 0:03:09Just falling unconscious. And this sprang from nowhere,

0:03:09 > 0:03:11she was collapsing and nobody knew what it was.

0:03:11 > 0:03:15I'd go to A&E and stay in for a few days, and then come back out,

0:03:15 > 0:03:17but every week I was in for an admission.

0:03:19 > 0:03:20After a barrage of tests,

0:03:20 > 0:03:24doctors diagnosed Antonia with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome,

0:03:24 > 0:03:26a rare and painful condition

0:03:26 > 0:03:28which weakens the body's connective tissues.

0:03:30 > 0:03:33When things like this happen, you never think that it would be me,

0:03:33 > 0:03:36or anyone to do with my family, but it is, so...

0:03:38 > 0:03:39It's difficult.

0:03:39 > 0:03:40The pain is awful for her,

0:03:40 > 0:03:44and she's on medication that even can't stop the pain.

0:03:44 > 0:03:47And you never really hear her talk about pain.

0:03:47 > 0:03:51You know, she doesn't, she just carries on.

0:03:51 > 0:03:55This incurable illness weakens nearly every system in her body.

0:03:55 > 0:03:57She can no longer digest food,

0:03:57 > 0:04:01and has to be fed through a tube directly into her heart.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04She can't stand or even sit upright without collapsing.

0:04:06 > 0:04:09My heart and my veins and my autonomic nervous system

0:04:09 > 0:04:12isn't strong enough to pump the blood to my brain,

0:04:12 > 0:04:15so effectively, when your brain hasn't got any blood in it,

0:04:15 > 0:04:17it just shuts down.

0:04:17 > 0:04:20Antonia stayed in several hospitals

0:04:20 > 0:04:23before arriving at a specialist unit in London.

0:04:24 > 0:04:28Victoria had to travel hundreds of miles to be with her,

0:04:28 > 0:04:31and was forced to stop work as a result.

0:04:31 > 0:04:33Nearly three years after her first admission,

0:04:33 > 0:04:37Antonia is now back at her local hospital in Gloucester,

0:04:37 > 0:04:41where her mum spends every day and night by her side.

0:04:41 > 0:04:44I sleep on the floor next to Antonia's bed, so I have...

0:04:44 > 0:04:46I've got a crash mat that I put out here,

0:04:46 > 0:04:49and then pop up and just check everything's all right.

0:04:50 > 0:04:54It's really made Mum very scared to leave her,

0:04:54 > 0:04:59because these episodes can be quite serious and quite scary, yeah.

0:04:59 > 0:05:02If she wasn't found when she's collapsing

0:05:02 > 0:05:06and she's not got an airway in,

0:05:06 > 0:05:08it's really hard to think about what could happen.

0:05:10 > 0:05:14Even Samuel gave up a dream job to be near his sister.

0:05:14 > 0:05:17Bedbound, she's been confined to a hospital room

0:05:17 > 0:05:20for the most part of three years.

0:05:20 > 0:05:21She's completely trapped,

0:05:21 > 0:05:25whether it's trapped in the four walls of a hospital room or trapped

0:05:25 > 0:05:30within the limitations of her body, and, you know, that is hard.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32I look outside the window and I kind of think,

0:05:32 > 0:05:35"Oh, God, that is very big out there."

0:05:35 > 0:05:39And, like, just remembering crossing the road and stuff,

0:05:39 > 0:05:40it seems kind of scary, really.

0:05:42 > 0:05:46As horrific and potentially life-threatening as Antonia's condition is,

0:05:46 > 0:05:48she could be cared for at home,

0:05:48 > 0:05:52but only if her home is equipped with oxygen,

0:05:52 > 0:05:55a sterile space for her intravenous medications,

0:05:55 > 0:05:58and room for a full-length wheelchair, and, at the moment,

0:05:58 > 0:06:01all that's impossible.

0:06:01 > 0:06:03Her legs have to be up all the time,

0:06:03 > 0:06:05so it's equivalent of trying to move a bed through the front door,

0:06:05 > 0:06:07which we can't do.

0:06:07 > 0:06:11And then there's no turning space, there's nowhere for her to sleep.

0:06:13 > 0:06:17After years of struggling to make the best of these unimaginable

0:06:17 > 0:06:20circumstances, the family are at the end of their tethers.

0:06:22 > 0:06:26It's just torn the family apart, and we've been so separated.

0:06:26 > 0:06:28I've always...

0:06:28 > 0:06:32been quite positive and things, and got on with it,

0:06:32 > 0:06:34but now I'm getting tired.

0:06:35 > 0:06:39It's a desperate plight for a young girl who's lost her prime teenage

0:06:39 > 0:06:41years to this cruel disorder.

0:06:41 > 0:06:45We need to give her and her family some freedom back,

0:06:45 > 0:06:47and get Antonia home.

0:06:47 > 0:06:50- How do we help?- This house used to be a really happy house,

0:06:50 > 0:06:54and the children used to laugh loads and we used to all be really silly.

0:06:54 > 0:06:58I haven't heard a laugh for quite a long time, really.

0:06:58 > 0:07:01Psychologically, it's really important for Antonia to be home.

0:07:01 > 0:07:03Has it been tough for her just recently?

0:07:03 > 0:07:06The truth is, it's been absolutely horrendous as it's unfolded.

0:07:06 > 0:07:09Antonia's had, I think, 22 operations.

0:07:09 > 0:07:12I say, "I think," it sounds bad in itself, doesn't it?

0:07:12 > 0:07:16- Since last January... - Well, I should imagine after a while you do start to lose track.

0:07:16 > 0:07:22You know, you bundle through life with two active children doing

0:07:22 > 0:07:24normal stuff, and then all of a sudden it's not there any more.

0:07:24 > 0:07:28No. I used to get scared and think, if I ever start crying, that'll be it,

0:07:28 > 0:07:31I won't be able to pull myself back together

0:07:31 > 0:07:34to do what I need to do the next moment.

0:07:34 > 0:07:36And this isn't about me, this isn't about me.

0:07:36 > 0:07:40This is about a young lady who is absolutely amazing

0:07:40 > 0:07:42and deserves to be able to come home.

0:07:42 > 0:07:45'You know, despite her brave face,

0:07:45 > 0:07:49'it's clear that Victoria and the whole family desperately need help,

0:07:49 > 0:07:51'and this lot are queueing up to lend a hand.'

0:07:51 > 0:07:52Hello.

0:07:54 > 0:07:56APPLAUSE

0:07:56 > 0:07:58Thank you so, so much for giving up your time.

0:07:58 > 0:08:02I'm a bit sort of shellshocked that you're all doing this for us.

0:08:02 > 0:08:06To get her home, it will be lovely to see her really smile properly again.

0:08:06 > 0:08:09In order to do that, we need to get you off and away from the place

0:08:09 > 0:08:12- so that we can get started, if that's all right. - Thank you so much.- No problem.

0:08:12 > 0:08:13- We'll see you.- Thank you.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21'With Mum safely out of sight, we can get going.

0:08:21 > 0:08:25'And our first job is to get rid of anything in our way - from tiles

0:08:25 > 0:08:27'to tree trunks.'

0:08:27 > 0:08:29- The wrong house.- The wrong one!

0:08:31 > 0:08:34'We've got over 100 tradesmen here on the first day alone,

0:08:34 > 0:08:36'of all shapes and sizes!'

0:08:36 > 0:08:38It just demonstrates the fact that it's far too low.

0:08:38 > 0:08:41If he can reach it! THEY LAUGH

0:08:41 > 0:08:43'And of every follicular configuration.'

0:08:43 > 0:08:46I like your beard. That's a beauty.

0:08:46 > 0:08:48'That's a bit worrying, isn't it?

0:08:48 > 0:08:49'Walls are crashing down inside,

0:08:49 > 0:08:52'but they'll be going up outside, as round the back,

0:08:52 > 0:08:55'we're building a ground-floor extension to house Antonia's brand-new

0:08:55 > 0:08:58'bedroom and wet room.

0:08:58 > 0:09:01'Earlier this week, this lovely bunch of lads laid the groundworks for us

0:09:01 > 0:09:03'to give us a head start. But today,

0:09:03 > 0:09:06'things have ground to a very premature halt.

0:09:06 > 0:09:08'The voice of doom has started early this week.'

0:09:10 > 0:09:12How much are you saying we're behind, then?

0:09:12 > 0:09:15- Half a day.- So we've been working 45 minutes and we're half a day behind?

0:09:15 > 0:09:18- Yeah.- How does that work?- We hadn't got the beams to lay the block and

0:09:18 > 0:09:20- beam floor.- Where's the block and beam floor?

0:09:20 > 0:09:22It's about three hours away up the M5.

0:09:22 > 0:09:24On a broken down wagon.

0:09:24 > 0:09:26- On a broken down wagon. - You're joking me?

0:09:27 > 0:09:31'The men with the timber frame for Antonia's extension are already

0:09:31 > 0:09:33'here and raring to go.

0:09:33 > 0:09:36'But to be honest, they can't do diddly squat until that block and

0:09:36 > 0:09:37'beam floor is down.

0:09:40 > 0:09:45'What we can do is rip out the garden, but Julian's at a bit of a loss when

0:09:45 > 0:09:46'it comes to the green stuff.'

0:09:46 > 0:09:50- I'm not a plant man, am I? - Heavy plant.- Yeah, heavy plant.

0:09:50 > 0:09:54- As in machinery, but not... - Green plants.- No.

0:09:54 > 0:09:56- Is there much growing in your garden?- I ripped it all out last week.

0:09:56 > 0:10:00- Did you?- I bought myself a little digger.- What, like a little hand digger?

0:10:00 > 0:10:03No, a 1.6 tonne mini digger.

0:10:03 > 0:10:04- And I've been in my front garden. - NICK LAUGHS

0:10:04 > 0:10:09I've took 70 tonnes of soil out of the garden.

0:10:09 > 0:10:12- What are you doing, a swimming pool? - No. Landscaping it.

0:10:12 > 0:10:15- Are you?- Yeah.- And what are you going to plant in there?

0:10:15 > 0:10:17- Nothing.- Nothing...- Chippings.

0:10:17 > 0:10:19NICK LAUGHS

0:10:19 > 0:10:23'What this build needs is someone who doesn't think chippings are the

0:10:23 > 0:10:26'height of luxury design.

0:10:26 > 0:10:30'Someone stylish, sophisticated and not at all irritating.

0:10:31 > 0:10:35'Vintage 1931, if I'm not mistaken.

0:10:35 > 0:10:37'And the car's getting on a bit, too!'

0:10:37 > 0:10:38HE LAUGHS

0:10:39 > 0:10:40I see you've started.

0:10:40 > 0:10:43Well, we thought we might as well press on and get as much done before

0:10:43 > 0:10:47- you started taking an influence. - Exactly.- By the way, happy birthday.

0:10:47 > 0:10:49- Thank you very much indeed. - It was THE birthday, wasn't it?

0:10:49 > 0:10:51It was. It was a great celebration.

0:10:51 > 0:10:55Gloucestershire's finest all coming together to mark how lucky we are to

0:10:55 > 0:10:58- have survived 50.- So are you actually announcing that?

0:10:58 > 0:11:00Absolutely. Cut me in half and count my rings.

0:11:00 > 0:11:03I am done dendro-chronologically 50.

0:11:03 > 0:11:06'Who knew? Well, I did, because I was there.

0:11:06 > 0:11:09'Well, let's put that half century of knowledge to good use.'

0:11:10 > 0:11:15I mean, the idea is to try and give Antonia and the rest of the family an ability

0:11:15 > 0:11:18to have as much space together as possible.

0:11:18 > 0:11:19- Yes.- Because of her condition,

0:11:19 > 0:11:24it means that she takes up an enormous amount of room when she moves.

0:11:24 > 0:11:30So it's really important that we don't have a warren of small areas,

0:11:30 > 0:11:34because she's going to be sort of stuck in one and everybody else is going to be stuck in the other.

0:11:34 > 0:11:36'Taking out most of the internal walls,

0:11:36 > 0:11:40'Laurence's design will create a spacious open plan kitchen and

0:11:40 > 0:11:42'dining area.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45'The existing living room will become an accessible space where the

0:11:45 > 0:11:47'family can spend quality time.

0:11:47 > 0:11:50'Upstairs, mum Victoria will have a plush new bedroom,

0:11:50 > 0:11:53'along with dressing room, instead of that hospital floor.

0:11:53 > 0:11:57'Her old one will become a guest room for Samuel when he comes to stay with

0:11:57 > 0:11:59'his family.

0:11:59 > 0:12:00'And most important of all,

0:12:00 > 0:12:03'the new extension will house Antonia's wet room and bedroom,

0:12:03 > 0:12:05'complete with oxygen supply,

0:12:05 > 0:12:10'space to manoeuvre and a sterile area to prepare her meds at home.

0:12:12 > 0:12:16'DIY SOS builder's rock, not available anywhere.

0:12:17 > 0:12:20'Chris will be a happy man as the plasterboard has turned up ahead of

0:12:20 > 0:12:23'schedule, although there seems to be a slight imperfection in the back.'

0:12:26 > 0:12:27THEY CHEER

0:12:27 > 0:12:30'Definitely not ahead of schedule is the block and beam floor.

0:12:30 > 0:12:34'It's finally arrived several hours late after a leisurely day basking

0:12:34 > 0:12:37'like a shark on the hard shoulder of the M5.'

0:12:37 > 0:12:39How long have we got?

0:12:39 > 0:12:41- Before this is in. - An hour, it should be in.

0:12:41 > 0:12:43Get this in in an hour.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46- Top man, top man. - 'That's where he buys his shirts!

0:12:46 > 0:12:49'Once the floor's in, we need to get that timber frame for Antonia's room

0:12:49 > 0:12:52'up and fast.

0:12:52 > 0:12:56'A hard enough job even if it wasn't the hottest day of the year.'

0:12:56 > 0:12:58But then, this is good plastering weather.

0:12:58 > 0:13:01No, it's not. Too hot.

0:13:01 > 0:13:05It's good for the plaster, but not for the plasterers.

0:13:05 > 0:13:07- Ah!- See what I mean?- Yes.

0:13:10 > 0:13:11Head over.

0:13:11 > 0:13:14- Hottest day of the year, it is. - Thanks very much.

0:13:14 > 0:13:16- Get a bit of that on you.- Cheers.

0:13:17 > 0:13:19'The sparks have been flying today.

0:13:19 > 0:13:22'They're about the only team on schedule.'

0:13:22 > 0:13:25Done the ring main upstairs, they're doing the lighting upstairs,

0:13:25 > 0:13:28the kitchen will all be sorted as well, so we are...

0:13:28 > 0:13:31we are up with it, as they say.

0:13:31 > 0:13:34'Doesn't make any sense, really, does he? But you've got to love him.'

0:13:34 > 0:13:37- Laurence had a birthday recently. How old do you think he is?- I reckon

0:13:37 > 0:13:40he's...58, 59.

0:13:41 > 0:13:43- And what was he?- 50.

0:13:43 > 0:13:44Oh, sugar!

0:13:45 > 0:13:48Laurence! Laurence!

0:13:48 > 0:13:50Don't put me in it.

0:13:50 > 0:13:53'Yeah, I don't think Billy will be getting a party bag, do you?'

0:13:53 > 0:13:56- Jules! Come here. - 'But Chris and Jules might.'

0:13:56 > 0:13:59I didn't know whether you knew, but it's Laurence's birthday.

0:13:59 > 0:14:01- Laurence who? - Our designer.- Right.

0:14:01 > 0:14:03- Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.- Yeah.

0:14:03 > 0:14:06And I thought we'd buy a little cake, but we'd Laurence it.

0:14:06 > 0:14:10- All right.- We'd spruce it up a bit. - Decorate it and give it a bit of a Laurence flair.

0:14:10 > 0:14:11Yeah, so, um... Right.

0:14:11 > 0:14:13Would you say he looked 50?

0:14:13 > 0:14:16- Oh, I guessed at 60, to be honest. - Really?- Yeah.

0:14:18 > 0:14:23- Look.- Liking it. It needs a moustache.

0:14:23 > 0:14:25- Right.- He had a bit on his chin, didn't he?

0:14:25 > 0:14:26HE LAUGHS

0:14:26 > 0:14:29Aw, mate!

0:14:29 > 0:14:30You can overdress a cake.

0:14:30 > 0:14:33You can. I think definitely less is more.

0:14:33 > 0:14:35'Bake Off, here they come!

0:14:35 > 0:14:39'I'll tell you who deserves an extra large slice of cake - these boys,

0:14:39 > 0:14:42'because they've put the block floor down in under an hour.

0:14:42 > 0:14:46'But while ripping out the back garden, we've hit an unexpected problem.'

0:14:48 > 0:14:52We have a ground bees' nest here that was under the shed.

0:14:53 > 0:14:56We're going to have to get someone in to move the bees, take them away,

0:14:56 > 0:14:58and find them a new home.

0:14:58 > 0:15:01I'll go and call a bee person.

0:15:01 > 0:15:04'Usually, I'd call the A person, but the budget's a bit tight!'

0:15:04 > 0:15:06NICK CHUCKLES

0:15:07 > 0:15:10'That frame for Antonia's room has finally started going up, but with

0:15:10 > 0:15:12'so much to fit inside,

0:15:12 > 0:15:15'we'll still be in trouble if we can't get finished today.

0:15:15 > 0:15:20'Inside, the ceiling is now being held up only by metal props and a robust

0:15:20 > 0:15:24'aroma of hot builder, in preparation for the steels arriving tomorrow.'

0:15:25 > 0:15:28We've got to take the ends of all those rafters off, to get the steelwork in.

0:15:28 > 0:15:31- Not a five-minute job, then. - Not five minutes.- No.

0:15:33 > 0:15:37'Even in the stifling heat, these 100-odd builders are giving it their all.

0:15:39 > 0:15:41'All except for Mary Berry and Paul out here.'

0:15:43 > 0:15:47- Happy birthday, Mr Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen.- I am...

0:15:47 > 0:15:50- You're loving it, aren't you?- I am absolutely delighted with that.

0:15:50 > 0:15:54- Blow your candle out, then.- Come on. - Come on. Make a wish.

0:15:54 > 0:15:55Are you still here?

0:15:55 > 0:15:57THEY LAUGH

0:15:57 > 0:16:01I'm going to put it somewhere really safe where I can really enjoy it.

0:16:01 > 0:16:05Ah! No, clap yourselves, by all means.

0:16:05 > 0:16:06HE LAUGHS

0:16:06 > 0:16:09- I think he was very, very pleased by that.- I think he was almost touched.

0:16:09 > 0:16:11- Yeah.- Almost. - Almost shed a tear.

0:16:11 > 0:16:13He did.

0:16:13 > 0:16:17- Wow!- He loved that. - 'You notice Chris still can't say his name properly.

0:16:17 > 0:16:19'Here comes the biohazard team to clean the Portaloos.

0:16:19 > 0:16:21'Just kidding! They're bee handlers.

0:16:24 > 0:16:28'You know, this lot have worked, well, like worker bees today.

0:16:28 > 0:16:31'And now that the queen bee's got his cake... NICK LAUGHS

0:16:31 > 0:16:33'..and our stripy little friends

0:16:33 > 0:16:37'are out on their ears, all that's left to do is finish the timber frame.'

0:16:37 > 0:16:39Pretty much done. This is about another two hours' work, which

0:16:39 > 0:16:42has to be done because we won't get on tomorrow if we don't.

0:16:42 > 0:16:44We're going to come through the door that's going to disappear.

0:16:44 > 0:16:47We're going to block this in. Part of the chimney that has disappeared,

0:16:47 > 0:16:49to the new front door that has appeared. Well,

0:16:49 > 0:16:52the space at least. And there's going to be a porch out there, too.

0:16:52 > 0:16:54We're going to block up the old French door. Come through here.

0:16:54 > 0:16:56As you can see, all the ceiling is taken out.

0:16:56 > 0:16:59This is a forest of acrow props, and the reason it's a forest of acrow props is

0:16:59 > 0:17:01because it's holding up the whole of upstairs,

0:17:01 > 0:17:04because there are new steels that need to go in this side, too.

0:17:04 > 0:17:08Considering the raging temperatures today, and the difficulties we've had,

0:17:08 > 0:17:10I think that's a pretty good start.

0:17:10 > 0:17:14'So we've clawed back the start of the build from an unprecedented five-hour delay.

0:17:14 > 0:17:17'And tomorrow is a new day.

0:17:17 > 0:17:18'I know it's stating the obvious, but it is.

0:17:20 > 0:17:23'The hottest day of the year. Again!'

0:17:23 > 0:17:25Morning - it's proper shorts weather today.

0:17:25 > 0:17:27They say it's going to be upwards of 40 degrees,

0:17:27 > 0:17:30so we've got to look after our builders and make sure they keep hydrated.

0:17:30 > 0:17:33Nice thing about having a big pair of shorts on, there's plenty of ball room.

0:17:33 > 0:17:37Which means you can bring one in to throw around with the builders at lunchtime.

0:17:37 > 0:17:41'A hot day can play merry hell with materials and the workforce alike.'

0:17:41 > 0:17:44- This is brilliant weather, isn't it? - Oh, it's... Well, it's good,

0:17:44 > 0:17:47but obviously we might have a little problem with the glues because

0:17:47 > 0:17:50obviously, certain temperatures, too high, too low,

0:17:50 > 0:17:52we need something in between a little bit, really.

0:17:52 > 0:17:56Hang on. Every time we're doing well in the winter, they go, "It's a bit difficult in the winter,

0:17:56 > 0:17:59- "it's too cold!"- Yeah.- Now you're saying it's to hot.- Well, you know, it's glue, isn't it?

0:17:59 > 0:18:03We'll be all right. We'll be all right. I'm big enough to cover the sun out, block the sun out.

0:18:03 > 0:18:05THEY LAUGH

0:18:06 > 0:18:09'Fortunately, the heat hasn't put these fellas off.

0:18:09 > 0:18:12'They're back for more and in even greater numbers.

0:18:15 > 0:18:19'Julian's got his hands on one of his favourite toys.

0:18:19 > 0:18:21'Look at the concentration.

0:18:21 > 0:18:23'I bet he wouldn't drive his own digger down there.

0:18:23 > 0:18:25'He might scratch the paintwork, you see.

0:18:25 > 0:18:29'Let's hope he can get into the back garden, it needs some serious reshaping.'

0:18:30 > 0:18:33I suppose this garden's all about access. Because they haven't been out here for...

0:18:33 > 0:18:36Well, for ages. They haven't had a chance. But of course it's potentially

0:18:36 > 0:18:39a sensory space and a great space to be,

0:18:39 > 0:18:41- isn't it?- Yeah, no, the garden should be a very,

0:18:41 > 0:18:44very important part of bringing Antonia back, as far as I'm concerned.

0:18:44 > 0:18:48The one thing that is complicated is that rose.

0:18:48 > 0:18:53That rose tree, we think, was planted

0:18:53 > 0:18:55by Victoria's mother just before she died.

0:18:55 > 0:18:57So, certainly, it has great sentimental value,

0:18:57 > 0:18:59which is why we're protecting it.

0:18:59 > 0:19:00'Very important detail, that.

0:19:00 > 0:19:02'The plan is to build a garden on two levels -

0:19:02 > 0:19:06'decking outside Antonio's room, built around that precious rose,

0:19:06 > 0:19:10'followed by a patio with the large turning circles you need.

0:19:10 > 0:19:14'All connected by a sandstone ramp to allow her to move around.

0:19:14 > 0:19:16'To bring Laurence's design to life,

0:19:16 > 0:19:19'we've got a team of gardeners with a bloke called Ian at the helm.'

0:19:21 > 0:19:23Officially, hottest day of the year...

0:19:23 > 0:19:25- Sounds good.- ..to build a garden. - Mm-hm.

0:19:25 > 0:19:28- How you doing?- Struggling. - THEY LAUGH

0:19:28 > 0:19:29You've got material problems.

0:19:29 > 0:19:33We have, yeah, we are seriously short of kit at the moment and we could do

0:19:33 > 0:19:35with getting a few more things here.

0:19:35 > 0:19:38'The building game's really picked up recently and we are finding that

0:19:38 > 0:19:41'merchants simply haven't got the stock to donate.'

0:19:41 > 0:19:44We're suffering, but actually, it's a good thing.

0:19:44 > 0:19:46It's an illustration of the fact that the economy and the building

0:19:46 > 0:19:50industry are coming out of recession with a bang,

0:19:50 > 0:19:53which is excellent for us all.

0:19:53 > 0:19:54Doesn't help much on this one though, does it?

0:19:54 > 0:19:56We are young and flexible.

0:19:56 > 0:19:58We are acting kind of tough.

0:19:58 > 0:19:59We can cope, sir.

0:19:59 > 0:20:04# We are young, we are free, keep our teeth nice and clean. #

0:20:04 > 0:20:07MUSIC: Alright by Supergrass

0:20:07 > 0:20:10'All we can do is keep ringing around

0:20:10 > 0:20:13'and hope that someone comes up with the goods.

0:20:13 > 0:20:17'You see, the builders really want to get this build right for Antonia

0:20:17 > 0:20:19'and her family. Her brother, Samuel,

0:20:19 > 0:20:23'has already had to shoulder enough responsibility to last a lifetime.'

0:20:25 > 0:20:29What's the toughest thing for you that you've seen with Antonia?

0:20:29 > 0:20:34The toughest thing is to have seen her completely lose the ability to

0:20:34 > 0:20:36just do whatever she likes.

0:20:36 > 0:20:39Just be able to stand up and walk out of the room, you know?

0:20:39 > 0:20:41When someone's so independent and then that happens to them,

0:20:41 > 0:20:44that's a massive change. It's really, really apparent.

0:20:44 > 0:20:47So, that's really, really tough to see.

0:20:47 > 0:20:50At the moment, she doesn't think that she'd be able to come out of

0:20:50 > 0:20:52hospital. You know,

0:20:52 > 0:20:57she doesn't think that it's a possibility, because she used to talk about

0:20:57 > 0:21:01coming home and doing all these things for so long, and in the last

0:21:01 > 0:21:04six months, I haven't heard her say anything like that.

0:21:04 > 0:21:07It must be heartbreaking for you because you obviously love her so

0:21:07 > 0:21:10- much, when you see her in pain. Cos she suffers a lot, doesn't she? - Yeah.

0:21:10 > 0:21:13The thing is, she's in pain all the time.

0:21:13 > 0:21:18You never hear her complain unless it's absolutely, you know, awful.

0:21:18 > 0:21:23She puts on a front quite a lot of the time for other people,

0:21:23 > 0:21:24which is...

0:21:24 > 0:21:26selfless, really, because...

0:21:27 > 0:21:29..it's meant that quite often,

0:21:29 > 0:21:32people don't necessarily see how bad it really is.

0:21:35 > 0:21:37I think...

0:21:37 > 0:21:39my sister is

0:21:39 > 0:21:41amazing and she's,

0:21:41 > 0:21:44you know, she's the most inspirational person.

0:21:44 > 0:21:47But for me, it's my mum who's my hero.

0:21:47 > 0:21:50Because I've seen how much my mum has had to fight to move forward

0:21:50 > 0:21:56with the situation and to sort situations out completely by herself.

0:21:56 > 0:21:57Fearlessly, really.

0:21:59 > 0:22:01I know there are days when she completely loses hope and thinks,

0:22:01 > 0:22:03"How can I carry on like this?"

0:22:04 > 0:22:08But she just keeps going, and I think that's absolutely amazing.

0:22:09 > 0:22:11I hope that when you walk in there,

0:22:11 > 0:22:14what you see is somewhere that's not only good for Antonia,

0:22:14 > 0:22:16not only takes the pressure off your mum a little bit,

0:22:16 > 0:22:21but also takes the pressure off you, because you've done an extraordinary job in looking after your family.

0:22:23 > 0:22:27'This build could make life so much more bearable, both for Antonia

0:22:27 > 0:22:29'and her family, too.

0:22:29 > 0:22:33'Fortunately in the afternoon, some materials have started trickling in.

0:22:33 > 0:22:35'That will keep Julian happy.

0:22:38 > 0:22:40'The steels for the ceiling have arrived.

0:22:42 > 0:22:46'And the bricks for Antonia's extension are being dropped off around the back.'

0:22:46 > 0:22:48That's a clever little crane, isn't it?

0:22:48 > 0:22:50It's on a railway track on the back of the...

0:22:50 > 0:22:52I've not seen that before. It's very cool.

0:22:53 > 0:22:56It's 3,200 bricks we've got to get into the back of the building.

0:22:56 > 0:23:01'Good job it's not an insanely hot day, or this would be really hard work.

0:23:06 > 0:23:09'I've got lose some weight. People are starting to flag and it's even

0:23:09 > 0:23:11'hotter on the roof.'

0:23:11 > 0:23:12Fancy an ice cream?

0:23:14 > 0:23:15I'll go and organise it.

0:23:17 > 0:23:20'Inside, the steels are going in despite the blistering temperatures.

0:23:20 > 0:23:23'There you go. Up, up, up!'

0:23:23 > 0:23:24All right.

0:23:24 > 0:23:27On three, we're going to lift and pull it this way 50 mil.

0:23:27 > 0:23:30Ready? One, two, three.

0:23:30 > 0:23:32Lift, this way. Stop.

0:23:34 > 0:23:38'What's got 19 heads, 38 feet and smells like one giant armpit?

0:23:38 > 0:23:40'Put it this way, it's not a caterpillar.

0:23:44 > 0:23:47'Round Antonia's room, the skin's going up, and in this weather,

0:23:47 > 0:23:50'there's a lot of skin on show.'

0:23:51 > 0:23:53So, just touching 100 degrees there.

0:23:53 > 0:23:56I told you it was going to be hot today, and it's got ridiculously hot.

0:23:56 > 0:23:59Are you managing all right over there with the heat and everything?

0:23:59 > 0:24:02Yeah, just about. I said we'll be here until about half past four and

0:24:02 > 0:24:04that will just about do us, then.

0:24:04 > 0:24:07'Yeah, it's no fault of our poor brickies, who've worn themselves out

0:24:07 > 0:24:11'trying to keep on schedule, but it's another blow for Antonia's extension.

0:24:11 > 0:24:13'The rest of the team aren't doing much better either.

0:24:13 > 0:24:17'We've already got through a week's worth of water in a couple of days.'

0:24:19 > 0:24:22Because it's this hot, we've actually got a slight problem.

0:24:22 > 0:24:26- Everyone's worn out.- Yeah. - There's guys up on that roof up there who are working...

0:24:26 > 0:24:27You said it was 100 down here.

0:24:27 > 0:24:31- It's more up there. - We've got 30 guys inside and the body heat of that lot

0:24:31 > 0:24:34added to the temperature in there...

0:24:36 > 0:24:39'Looks like the heat's got to Billy, too. Where's he gone?'

0:24:40 > 0:24:42Oi, lads, anybody seen Billy?

0:24:42 > 0:24:46Don't know where he is. Haven't seen him for a while.

0:24:46 > 0:24:48Billy! Has anyone seen Billy?

0:24:48 > 0:24:50ICE CREAM VAN PLAYS TUNE

0:24:50 > 0:24:52'Ah, just the job.

0:24:53 > 0:24:55'Oh, no. Really?'

0:24:55 > 0:24:57You might have wondered where I've been.

0:24:57 > 0:25:00I've been and hijacked an ice cream van.

0:25:00 > 0:25:03We're going to do knickerbocker glories.

0:25:03 > 0:25:06This one is the one that my mother used to make.

0:25:06 > 0:25:09- IN ITALIAN ACCENT:- Ah, Billio. - What do you want?

0:25:09 > 0:25:11Could I possibly have a 99-io?

0:25:11 > 0:25:13No, it's a knickerbocker glory or nothing.

0:25:13 > 0:25:15'Yeah, somebody gave them a script, didn't they?

0:25:15 > 0:25:18'Despite the best efforts of Billy Berlusconi,

0:25:18 > 0:25:21'our workforce is utterly exhausted.

0:25:21 > 0:25:24'We're going to have to take an unprecedented step because of this heat.'

0:25:24 > 0:25:26I think we have to send them home early.

0:25:26 > 0:25:28- Right, OK. I'll do that. - It's just not safe, is it?

0:25:28 > 0:25:30No, it's not safe.

0:25:30 > 0:25:33'Shutting the site early will cost us three hours of build time,

0:25:33 > 0:25:35'three hours we can't afford.

0:25:35 > 0:25:38'We certainly can't afford another day like this.

0:25:43 > 0:25:46'We're in luck! The typical British summer has returned!'

0:25:48 > 0:25:50The weather's changed a bit today.

0:25:50 > 0:25:52We've got a bit of rain after all the heat yesterday,

0:25:52 > 0:25:55which is actually quite refreshing, but we don't want too much.

0:25:55 > 0:25:57Morning, morning. Morning.

0:25:57 > 0:26:01'It's day three and the plasterers have arrived en masse.'

0:26:01 > 0:26:03Firstly, thank you for giving us your time.

0:26:03 > 0:26:07'And Chris is giving them his usual upbeat motivation speech.'

0:26:07 > 0:26:09We're about half a day behind.

0:26:09 > 0:26:11But not putting any pressure on you.

0:26:11 > 0:26:13'Yeah, that's one to rally the troops, Chris. Well done(!)

0:26:13 > 0:26:16'And their first challenge is to get through the newly bricked-up

0:26:16 > 0:26:17'front door.'

0:26:18 > 0:26:21It might pay to go through that window.

0:26:24 > 0:26:26'With the more reasonable temperature,

0:26:26 > 0:26:28'there's a symphony of construction going on.

0:26:28 > 0:26:31'Music to my ears.'

0:26:31 > 0:26:33# Chick, chick, chick, chick, chicken!

0:26:35 > 0:26:37# Take a little chance with me... #

0:26:47 > 0:26:49'Yeah, that was fun, wasn't it? We may have shut early yesterday,

0:26:49 > 0:26:53'but the way these lads are going at it, we might get this build back on track.

0:26:55 > 0:26:57'Just look at the plasterers go.'

0:26:57 > 0:27:01- Who's putting this on?- Ivan. - Ivan.- Pleased to meet you. - Nice to meet you.

0:27:01 > 0:27:04- You don't meet many Ivans around. - No, there's only a few of us.

0:27:04 > 0:27:06Named after Ivan the Terrible?

0:27:06 > 0:27:08My nan's next-door neighbour.

0:27:08 > 0:27:10- Is there a story there?- No.

0:27:10 > 0:27:12NICK LAUGHS

0:27:12 > 0:27:15'I think there's a story there. Inside, we're motoring,

0:27:15 > 0:27:19'but outside we still don't have all of the garden materials, and a brief

0:27:19 > 0:27:22'shower's stopped play for Jules.

0:27:25 > 0:27:26'Still, who are we to complain?

0:27:26 > 0:27:31'Antonia hasn't been able to experience a day outdoors in a very long time.

0:27:31 > 0:27:33'Luckily, she has an incredibly supportive family

0:27:33 > 0:27:35'and a best mate like Georgia.'

0:27:35 > 0:27:36So how long have you known Antonia?

0:27:36 > 0:27:38- Four years.- Right.- Yeah.

0:27:38 > 0:27:42And so what kind of person was she before all her difficulties came along?

0:27:42 > 0:27:45Very energetic and mad.

0:27:45 > 0:27:48So it must have come as doubly a shock for somebody who was so energetic

0:27:48 > 0:27:53- to suddenly be so struck down. - Yeah. When she was in London, I used to go up on the weekend

0:27:53 > 0:27:55and visit her and stay in the hospital room with her.

0:27:55 > 0:27:58And I would just get really agitated after a few hours,

0:27:58 > 0:28:02just being trapped in that room. But I can get up and leave.

0:28:02 > 0:28:06She can't. So just thinking how she would feel being stuck there.

0:28:06 > 0:28:10- It's horrible.- But she passes out often, doesn't she?

0:28:10 > 0:28:12Yeah, yeah. I used to...

0:28:12 > 0:28:15Whenever she passed out, I always used to read to her.

0:28:15 > 0:28:17Because sometimes, she can still hear.

0:28:17 > 0:28:22- Is that right?- Yeah. - That's a hell of a friendship you've got there, then.

0:28:22 > 0:28:24Yeah. Well, I love her, so...

0:28:25 > 0:28:28But that's a long time to, you know, to be going and seeing somebody

0:28:28 > 0:28:31and travelling up to London to see her and all those things.

0:28:31 > 0:28:34She's my best friend. It's what you do, don't you, if you love someone?

0:28:34 > 0:28:36It's very cool, though.

0:28:36 > 0:28:39She's obviously a very lovely person.

0:28:39 > 0:28:40She is, she is.

0:28:42 > 0:28:46'We can't help with Antonia's diagnosis, but we can get her back home.

0:28:46 > 0:28:49'And with the sun out again, the team are redoubling their efforts.

0:28:52 > 0:28:57'And finally our calls have paid off and materials are arriving thick and fast.

0:28:58 > 0:28:59'The patio's here.

0:29:01 > 0:29:04'And the screed for a brand-new floor in Antonia's room.'

0:29:05 > 0:29:08- 50 mil, sort of liquid screed.- Yeah.

0:29:08 > 0:29:10Which goes off in about 24, 36 hours

0:29:10 > 0:29:13and you can get that done and working, hopefully.

0:29:13 > 0:29:15We put one down before and it didn't go off.

0:29:15 > 0:29:18- But this will go off?- Yeah, promise.

0:29:20 > 0:29:23'Antonia's extension has created nothing but headaches so far,

0:29:23 > 0:29:27'but the roof's nearly finished, and a good job, too,

0:29:27 > 0:29:29'as it's been holding up the gardeners.'

0:29:29 > 0:29:32I will be so glad to see the back of that scaffolding.

0:29:32 > 0:29:34- Trust me, yeah.- This would be a three-week job,

0:29:34 > 0:29:36two and a half, three-week job for you guys normally?

0:29:36 > 0:29:39I would say so, yeah. Three weeks would probably do it.

0:29:39 > 0:29:43'Well, we're four days in, so you've got five days, Ian. NICK LAUGHS

0:29:43 > 0:29:44'You're welcome!

0:29:45 > 0:29:49'Despite everyone getting under each other's feet, there's no lack of goodwill on site.

0:29:49 > 0:29:53'People have roped in their mates, their bosses, their daughters,

0:29:53 > 0:29:56'and even those who can't help are here in spirit.'

0:29:56 > 0:29:59I lost my brother last year

0:29:59 > 0:30:00and he would have loved this.

0:30:00 > 0:30:03I just want him to feel part of it, really.

0:30:03 > 0:30:06A bit soft, I know, but the sort of thing he would have been involved in,

0:30:06 > 0:30:10I should imagine, so just wanted to feel that he was here with me today.

0:30:10 > 0:30:13'Doesn't sound daft at all to me. There's a lot of love on site.

0:30:13 > 0:30:17'This lot are determined to make this house a home again for Antonia

0:30:17 > 0:30:21'and her family. For her mum, Victoria, her illness has been heartbreaking.'

0:30:23 > 0:30:27The hardest part was...

0:30:27 > 0:30:29not knowing how to help.

0:30:29 > 0:30:32Not knowing if Antonia is in pain.

0:30:32 > 0:30:35There's nothing I can do particularly.

0:30:35 > 0:30:36I can only be there.

0:30:37 > 0:30:43And it's harrowing to watch your child in really, really, really bad pain

0:30:43 > 0:30:45and not be able to make it better.

0:30:46 > 0:30:50And for us to be in hospital away from home for that long, away from

0:30:50 > 0:30:53family, away from friends, and it to be every day.

0:30:56 > 0:30:57Why aren't you worn out?

0:30:58 > 0:31:02- Or are you?- I am, actually.

0:31:02 > 0:31:05I just think you just have to keep going.

0:31:05 > 0:31:08- There isn't...- It's easier said than done.- I know, but there's not a choice.

0:31:08 > 0:31:12I've learned an awful lot from Antonia and Samuel.

0:31:12 > 0:31:15They're a lot stronger than I am.

0:31:15 > 0:31:18- You're very proud of Samuel, aren't you?- Very, very proud of Samuel.

0:31:18 > 0:31:22He has supported his sister and he loves his sister.

0:31:22 > 0:31:25With Antonia's illness, it was all very sudden for everybody.

0:31:25 > 0:31:26It was sudden for him.

0:31:26 > 0:31:29Suddenly, we didn't come home. That was it.

0:31:30 > 0:31:34We were gone for a blood test and we didn't come home. And I think...

0:31:34 > 0:31:37Yes, I suppose Samuel had to grow up pretty quick.

0:31:39 > 0:31:42Have you pictured having her home now that you know that it's happening?

0:31:42 > 0:31:44Oh, it's going to be amazing.

0:31:44 > 0:31:48Antonia thought I had a magic wand and I could just make everything right.

0:31:48 > 0:31:52And I haven't been able to make this right, I haven't been able to get her home.

0:31:52 > 0:31:53When she said,

0:31:53 > 0:31:57"I want to go home," I've had to say, "I can't take you."

0:31:57 > 0:31:59And that is horrible.

0:31:59 > 0:32:03We've hopped from crisis to crisis to crisis, and for something good

0:32:03 > 0:32:08to happen that so many people are trying their hardest to get Antonia home,

0:32:08 > 0:32:09it is unbelievable.

0:32:09 > 0:32:11It is a dream come true, really.

0:32:11 > 0:32:13It's absolutely what I've wanted for her.

0:32:15 > 0:32:20I don't know how much more of hospital Antonia can take, really.

0:32:20 > 0:32:22It's so tough.

0:32:22 > 0:32:25She's had her 16th, 17th and 18th birthday in hospital.

0:32:27 > 0:32:29- 19th at home?- 19th at home.

0:32:31 > 0:32:33She's going to go home.

0:32:33 > 0:32:36Oh, my God! I've just realised. It's a really stupid thing to say!

0:32:41 > 0:32:42'Wow! No pressure.

0:32:42 > 0:32:45'We only get to get her home if we finish the build.

0:32:45 > 0:32:48'What we don't need is any more delays to Antonia's room.'

0:32:49 > 0:32:51Nice!

0:32:51 > 0:32:53Proper job, that, boy. Proper job!

0:32:53 > 0:32:55- That's more like he, isn't it!- Yeah!

0:32:55 > 0:32:57'That is a proper relief,

0:32:57 > 0:33:01'as we've only got three days left and the decorators need to get in.'

0:33:03 > 0:33:06'After the screed, the next thing to go down is underfloor heating,

0:33:06 > 0:33:08'as soon as Billy's figured out whose job it is.'

0:33:08 > 0:33:10Who's going to lay the underfloor heating system?

0:33:10 > 0:33:14Obviously, it's got electrics to it, so is it an electrician's job?

0:33:14 > 0:33:16'Yes! Yes, it is, actually.'

0:33:16 > 0:33:19In my mind, heating is water. So it could be the plumber's.

0:33:19 > 0:33:20'But that's wrong!'

0:33:20 > 0:33:24So we're trying to work out who's... it's a demarcation.

0:33:24 > 0:33:25It's a union thing here.

0:33:25 > 0:33:27'It's you! It's you!

0:33:27 > 0:33:30'This will shock you, Bill, but since the plumbers are busy plumbing,

0:33:30 > 0:33:32'the painters are painting, the chippies are chippying,

0:33:32 > 0:33:34'I think you're stuck with the ELECTRIC heat mat.

0:33:37 > 0:33:40'The entire ground floor is designed with Antonia in mind,

0:33:40 > 0:33:42'but above all, her bedroom.'

0:33:42 > 0:33:44This is the most important room in the house,

0:33:44 > 0:33:46actually, because we're going to have

0:33:46 > 0:33:48all the medical equipment in here.

0:33:48 > 0:33:50It's called an aseptic room,

0:33:50 > 0:33:52which is somewhere that she can feed,

0:33:52 > 0:33:55and it's very clean and dust-free and germ-free.

0:33:55 > 0:33:57So this is a really important space.

0:33:58 > 0:34:00'These guys have come from Yorkshire

0:34:00 > 0:34:02'to fit a ceiling hoist to help Antonia

0:34:02 > 0:34:03'if she collapses.

0:34:05 > 0:34:08'With only two days to go, it's all about speed now.

0:34:08 > 0:34:12'But a flooring which resembles a 1,000-piece jigsaw is not helping.'

0:34:12 > 0:34:14And unfortunately, some idiot has decided

0:34:14 > 0:34:16that they're going to put it down herringbone style.

0:34:16 > 0:34:18Laurence!

0:34:18 > 0:34:19Planking goes down a lot quicker.

0:34:19 > 0:34:21There's a lot more wastage with this.

0:34:21 > 0:34:23So how much more time?

0:34:23 > 0:34:25Did you say it was twice as much?

0:34:25 > 0:34:27- Three times longer. - Three times longer

0:34:27 > 0:34:29to do this particular style of flooring.

0:34:29 > 0:34:31So this really wasn't an ideal situation

0:34:31 > 0:34:33in which to put down herringbone floor?

0:34:33 > 0:34:34- No.- No.

0:34:34 > 0:34:36So we should take the designer outside

0:34:36 > 0:34:38and have him publicly flogged.

0:34:38 > 0:34:40'Or we could set Billy on him.

0:34:40 > 0:34:42'That's worse than a flogging.'

0:34:42 > 0:34:44She can't turn corners.

0:34:44 > 0:34:47She's always got to go in a really big circle.

0:34:47 > 0:34:49So she's got a nice space to turn in.

0:34:49 > 0:34:51So she's got enough space here to really, you know.

0:34:51 > 0:34:53And who thought of that, then?

0:34:53 > 0:34:56Yeah! But who invented the Round Table?

0:34:56 > 0:34:58Ah! Well, it was King Arthur.

0:34:58 > 0:34:59No. Sir Cumference!

0:34:59 > 0:35:01Sir Cumference!

0:35:01 > 0:35:02Come on, sausage, let's go.

0:35:02 > 0:35:05'I've changed my mind, Billy should be publicly flogged for that joke.

0:35:05 > 0:35:09'Better yet, tarred and feathered, and we've got just the stuff!'

0:35:11 > 0:35:13It goes down one single layer,

0:35:13 > 0:35:16and it's got wax in it then, and it sets solid.

0:35:16 > 0:35:17But it goes off quicker?

0:35:17 > 0:35:19Goes off quicker, so you've got to be careful.

0:35:19 > 0:35:23How long have you been in the McAdam tarmac industry?

0:35:23 > 0:35:25- 25 years.- It's a lovely industry.

0:35:25 > 0:35:28It is. I love the smell of asphalt when it's been laid.

0:35:28 > 0:35:32I know! I know! I came up a road the other day in Wales, actually,

0:35:32 > 0:35:34and it was like black velvet all the way through the mountain.

0:35:34 > 0:35:37It was gorgeous. Are you married?

0:35:37 > 0:35:38I am, unfortunately!

0:35:38 > 0:35:41How long would it take to get a divorce pushed through?

0:35:41 > 0:35:45'Seriously! Smoother than a freshly-laid drive, that man!

0:35:45 > 0:35:46'Honestly!

0:35:46 > 0:35:49'Going less smoothly is that herringbone floor.

0:35:49 > 0:35:52'It hasn't even been started in Antonia's room,

0:35:52 > 0:35:55'pushing our most important room behind schedule, yet again.'

0:35:56 > 0:36:00Is there ANY chance we can change the flooring in Antonia's room...

0:36:00 > 0:36:02- Yes.- ..to something else?

0:36:02 > 0:36:03It's taking so long to lay.

0:36:03 > 0:36:06- Perfectly all right. - You seem very malleable.

0:36:06 > 0:36:09Almost like an Olympic gymnast, you seem very flexible today.

0:36:09 > 0:36:12I mean, there's no point in us all, you know,

0:36:12 > 0:36:15crippling ourselves just for one rather foolish

0:36:15 > 0:36:18and rather frivolous design decision.

0:36:18 > 0:36:20But, fine! There you go!

0:36:20 > 0:36:21'Who was that?

0:36:21 > 0:36:24'Seriously, who was that man? And what has he done with Laurence?'

0:36:24 > 0:36:26Tick-tick-tick-tick...

0:36:26 > 0:36:28'Anyway, we've got him to change his mind about the floor,

0:36:28 > 0:36:32'but maybe I should have held on to my veto card a little bit longer.'

0:36:34 > 0:36:39- What the...?- I did say, I said in Antonia's room, it's going LA crib.

0:36:39 > 0:36:42I've designed this wallpaper especially for her -

0:36:42 > 0:36:44- hence the As and the... - Rampant zebras.

0:36:44 > 0:36:47Which are something which she's very much interested in.

0:36:47 > 0:36:49But you can't just take seven things

0:36:49 > 0:36:52- that people like and nail them together and...- Yes, I can.

0:36:52 > 0:36:54- It's barking, Laurence. - It is entirely barking,

0:36:54 > 0:36:57but it's entirely commensurate with the way

0:36:57 > 0:36:59that I think teenage girls are barking.

0:36:59 > 0:37:01As the owner of two myself,

0:37:01 > 0:37:04and my two were literally licking that when they saw it.

0:37:04 > 0:37:07'OWN two daughters, Laurence? Really?

0:37:07 > 0:37:10'Still, Antonia's room is now getting papered and floored,

0:37:10 > 0:37:13'and this lot are determined to get it right for her.

0:37:13 > 0:37:15'Now, you may be thinking we haven't met Antonia very much,

0:37:15 > 0:37:17'that's because visiting her in hospital is difficult,

0:37:17 > 0:37:19'but I've heard she's well enough to see me,

0:37:19 > 0:37:21'so there's a chance to get to know her.

0:37:21 > 0:37:22'You know, her illness is so rare

0:37:22 > 0:37:24'that in medical circles, conditions like these

0:37:24 > 0:37:27'are sometimes called zebras,

0:37:27 > 0:37:30'which explains why Antonia's room is covered in them.'

0:37:30 > 0:37:31They're so cute, aren't they?

0:37:31 > 0:37:34They are. They're just very cool.

0:37:34 > 0:37:36If you press that button that's flashing...

0:37:36 > 0:37:39It is an attention seeker, that is. Seriously.

0:37:39 > 0:37:41It's like a child, you have to ignore it.

0:37:41 > 0:37:44So you've been almost sort of institutionalised to this.

0:37:44 > 0:37:46I mean, surrounded by all of these machines.

0:37:46 > 0:37:49- Yeah.- It is a lot to have to deal with at your age.

0:37:49 > 0:37:51I try and stay positive,

0:37:51 > 0:37:55but it is difficult, and sometimes I do, like, get really upset over it.

0:37:55 > 0:37:58But how do you keep that positivity up all this time?

0:37:58 > 0:38:01Has there been times when it's slipped, or have you managed?

0:38:01 > 0:38:04Yeah, like, I've had times when I've been in so much pain.

0:38:04 > 0:38:08When I was in London, I was on such a high dose of morphine.

0:38:09 > 0:38:12When you have, like, chronic pain, and it is that all the time,

0:38:12 > 0:38:17people say you get used to it and you, like, learn to deal with it.

0:38:17 > 0:38:18I don't think you do,

0:38:18 > 0:38:22you kind of just learn to stop, like, saying anything about it.

0:38:24 > 0:38:26How amazing is your brother?

0:38:26 > 0:38:28Oh, I love my brother.

0:38:28 > 0:38:32He came and got a job in London so that he could be nearer to me.

0:38:32 > 0:38:35He'd come in after work and he'd be so exhausted.

0:38:35 > 0:38:38He'd be sat there, like, falling asleep.

0:38:39 > 0:38:41I think he'd just do anything for me, really.

0:38:41 > 0:38:44- And your mum?- My mum's a superhero.

0:38:44 > 0:38:47It is amazingly tight-knit, the three of you.

0:38:47 > 0:38:49Mm. Yeah.

0:38:49 > 0:38:53We always have been a close family, but I think this whole experience,

0:38:53 > 0:38:55we've gained a lot of perspective for a start,

0:38:55 > 0:38:58about, you know, that you should cherish your family

0:38:58 > 0:39:02and every day is, like, special, really,

0:39:02 > 0:39:05because you never know what's going to happen.

0:39:05 > 0:39:08I don't know what I'd do without them.

0:39:08 > 0:39:10So what are your hopes?

0:39:10 > 0:39:14Just to go back to normal life, really.

0:39:14 > 0:39:16I don't really mind,

0:39:16 > 0:39:19but I just want independence and freedom, really.

0:39:19 > 0:39:21How excited are you about coming home?

0:39:21 > 0:39:23Super excited. Super, super excited.

0:39:23 > 0:39:25Are you going to be well enough to come back?

0:39:25 > 0:39:27Touch wood.

0:39:27 > 0:39:28So how does it feel

0:39:28 > 0:39:31knowing that we're just days away from the possibility

0:39:31 > 0:39:33of you actually getting home?

0:39:33 > 0:39:36I don't even really think I completely believe it yet,

0:39:36 > 0:39:38to be honest.

0:39:38 > 0:39:42They are basically giving me, like, a new chance at life.

0:39:42 > 0:39:46For me to get home will be like a dream.

0:39:46 > 0:39:50Will you promise me something, that no matter how excited you are,

0:39:50 > 0:39:53that you will not come home if you're not well,

0:39:53 > 0:39:55and that you will not make yourself do anything

0:39:55 > 0:39:57because you think you ought to?

0:39:57 > 0:39:58- Pinky swear.- Pinky swear?

0:39:58 > 0:40:00- Yeah.- All right.

0:40:00 > 0:40:03'Of course, Antonia's health must come first,

0:40:03 > 0:40:06'but we want to finish this house no matter what,

0:40:06 > 0:40:09'so that it's ready for her whenever she's able to come home.

0:40:09 > 0:40:12'As we head into the final day, the house is buzzing.'

0:40:12 > 0:40:14Brilliant stuff, we've got the garden finished,

0:40:14 > 0:40:16we've got the lawn down, the tarmac in.

0:40:16 > 0:40:17'He's on a roll, isn't he?

0:40:17 > 0:40:19'Mark, tell us a bit more about what's going on.'

0:40:19 > 0:40:20And then in here, we've got

0:40:20 > 0:40:22Oliver fitting the last of the machines in here.

0:40:22 > 0:40:24They've finished all the grouting off.

0:40:24 > 0:40:27- 'Any more?'- Then in here we've got all new floor laid,

0:40:27 > 0:40:28the skirtings are nearly finished.

0:40:28 > 0:40:30'Mark, be a fridge.'

0:40:30 > 0:40:33Fridge, shelf, door, beautiful.

0:40:33 > 0:40:37'It's all about the little details, and I don't mean Mark.

0:40:37 > 0:40:40'In the garden, it's all hands on decking. Ha-ha-ha!

0:40:40 > 0:40:43'And the turf is on a roll. Honestly, you can't buy this stuff.'

0:40:43 > 0:40:45It's starting to look the part, isn't it?

0:40:45 > 0:40:47- It is, yes.- You going to be done in time?

0:40:47 > 0:40:50Because we are running... hours now.

0:40:50 > 0:40:53The answer to the question has to be yes.

0:40:53 > 0:40:55But, yeah, we'll be there.

0:40:55 > 0:40:58'One of the most important bits of kit has turned up,

0:40:58 > 0:41:01'Antonia's life-saving oxygen supply,

0:41:01 > 0:41:03'with taps in every ground-floor room.'

0:41:05 > 0:41:0724 hours a day, that's accessible for her.

0:41:07 > 0:41:09- Wow!- Yeah.

0:41:09 > 0:41:11She'll have small portables, as well,

0:41:11 > 0:41:14that she can carry with her when she goes out.

0:41:14 > 0:41:17But this is to give her a supply when she is in the home.

0:41:17 > 0:41:19Without the oxygen, she couldn't come home.

0:41:21 > 0:41:24'Drawing on the wallpaper? I used to get in trouble for that.'

0:41:24 > 0:41:26Well that's, that's very lovely.

0:41:26 > 0:41:29Thank you very much indeed. All you need is a permanent marker,

0:41:29 > 0:41:31some acrylic paints,

0:41:31 > 0:41:33and about five or six years in an Italian art school.

0:41:33 > 0:41:37This is going to be very sort of elegant Mum's room?

0:41:37 > 0:41:38Well, this is an escape.

0:41:38 > 0:41:41My heart goes out to the parents and I think that when you are dealing

0:41:41 > 0:41:45with everything on a daily basis, it is so important

0:41:45 > 0:41:49to have a sanctuary, have a space that you can call your own.

0:41:49 > 0:41:53'He's very good, isn't he? Above all the schmutter, he's very good.'

0:41:53 > 0:41:54Get everything piled up.

0:41:54 > 0:41:57If we can get the cleaners in there, that's the room almost ready.

0:42:00 > 0:42:02'Right up until the last minute,

0:42:02 > 0:42:05'we're still inundated by incredibly thoughtful touches.

0:42:07 > 0:42:09'Hang on. That table looks familiar.

0:42:09 > 0:42:12'Oh, my goodness! Look at that.'

0:42:12 > 0:42:14This is their old table.

0:42:14 > 0:42:16The top is, yeah. Then on that side...

0:42:16 > 0:42:17You've taken a section out here?

0:42:17 > 0:42:20That's gone so that we can get wheelchair access.

0:42:20 > 0:42:21Look at these!

0:42:21 > 0:42:24Well, this represents the family, you've got the mother, the two kids,

0:42:24 > 0:42:26obviously, this is where, for the first time,

0:42:26 > 0:42:28they can sit together and enjoy a family meal.

0:42:28 > 0:42:30- What a beautiful thing.- It's lovely, isn't it?

0:42:30 > 0:42:32That's a lot of thought gone into a table, mate, that's fantastic.

0:42:32 > 0:42:34Cheers.

0:42:34 > 0:42:35'Isn't it wonderful what people can do?

0:42:35 > 0:42:39'They've put body and soul into making this house a home.

0:42:39 > 0:42:42'And they're making sure every last detail counts.'

0:42:45 > 0:42:48The sun's going down, so it's about half past nine at this stage.

0:42:49 > 0:42:51People still making things.

0:42:51 > 0:42:54People inside still trying to put things together.

0:42:54 > 0:42:57It's basically going to be a very long night,

0:42:57 > 0:42:59so we'll see you in the morning.

0:43:03 > 0:43:05'Nine days ago, we met a family

0:43:05 > 0:43:08'shattered by a cruel medical condition.'

0:43:08 > 0:43:11When things like this happen you never think that it would be me,

0:43:11 > 0:43:14or anyone to do with my family, but it is.

0:43:15 > 0:43:20'With a house she'd been unable to come home to for three long years,

0:43:20 > 0:43:22'Antonia's outlook was bleak.'

0:43:23 > 0:43:27I don't know how much more Antonia can take of being in hospital.

0:43:28 > 0:43:32I got to a point where I didn't ever see myself coming out of hospital,

0:43:32 > 0:43:34and I thought it was just going to be forever.

0:43:36 > 0:43:40'But these local heroes responded to our SOS in a huge way,

0:43:40 > 0:43:43'battling through the hottest July day on record.'

0:43:43 > 0:43:46People are just streaming with sweat.

0:43:46 > 0:43:47I think we have to send them home early.

0:43:47 > 0:43:49- Right, OK, I'll do that. - It's just not safe, is it?

0:43:49 > 0:43:51'And the result?

0:43:51 > 0:43:55'Well, it will bring Antonia home and give her a new chance at life.

0:43:59 > 0:44:01'We've replaced the old front porch with a brand-new one

0:44:01 > 0:44:03'to make the impossible possible.

0:44:03 > 0:44:07'Antonia can now enter her own home once more.

0:44:07 > 0:44:10'Inside, the living room has been opened out to create a homely

0:44:10 > 0:44:14'and accessible space where the family can all be together again.

0:44:15 > 0:44:17'The warren of narrow doors and small rooms

0:44:17 > 0:44:22'has been removed to create this new and spacious kitchen-diner.

0:44:22 > 0:44:26'And a supply of oxygen and hoists around the entire ground floor

0:44:26 > 0:44:29'will give Antonia the freedom to move she's been longing for.

0:44:30 > 0:44:33'Meanwhile, a whole new extension at the back of the house

0:44:33 > 0:44:36'means Antonia now has a proper room all of her own.

0:44:38 > 0:44:41'It's done up in the polar opposite of hospital decor,

0:44:41 > 0:44:45'and it's complete with an aseptic area for preparing her medicines.

0:44:45 > 0:44:46'And a wet room.

0:44:48 > 0:44:51'For Mum, the days of sleeping on the floor are over.

0:44:51 > 0:44:54'Her room is now a haven of relaxation

0:44:54 > 0:44:55'with its own dressing room.

0:44:57 > 0:45:00'The decluttered bathroom radiates simple elegance.

0:45:02 > 0:45:06'And when Samuel comes to stay or for when Antonia's mates sleep over,

0:45:06 > 0:45:10'there is a stylish and sophisticated new guest room.

0:45:10 > 0:45:14'And that's not all. The garden is now a green, serene paradise

0:45:14 > 0:45:16'filled with butterfly-friendly planting,

0:45:16 > 0:45:18'wheelchair-friendly decking,

0:45:18 > 0:45:21'and the family's beloved rose as a centrepiece.

0:45:23 > 0:45:25'It'll be all the more life-changing for Antonia,

0:45:25 > 0:45:29'who hasn't even set foot outside hospital for months.

0:45:29 > 0:45:31'But that's all about to change.

0:45:32 > 0:45:36'Today, the medics have given her the all clear to come home.'

0:45:43 > 0:45:45I love the fresh air.

0:45:46 > 0:45:48I'm actually quite well today.

0:45:48 > 0:45:51I was really worried that I was going to catch a cold or something,

0:45:51 > 0:45:52but I didn't, so I'm good.

0:45:55 > 0:45:59I mean, today is the culmination of a long, long, long time, isn't it?

0:45:59 > 0:46:01To actually finally get your sister actually home.

0:46:01 > 0:46:05Yeah. She came out of the hospital today and said,

0:46:05 > 0:46:07"Oh, it's amazing, just some fresh air,"

0:46:07 > 0:46:10you know, and you forget that she hasn't had that for so long.

0:46:10 > 0:46:13So that is so special.

0:46:17 > 0:46:20This morning, I woke up and I thought it was Christmas Day,

0:46:20 > 0:46:25and I leapt up and danced around the room, which is quite sad, I suppose.

0:46:27 > 0:46:28We're going home.

0:46:29 > 0:46:31It's so exciting, isn't it?

0:46:32 > 0:46:34Are you excited?

0:46:34 > 0:46:36Very excited. And Antonia is ecstatic, as well.

0:46:36 > 0:46:39She's very, very nervous, but excited.

0:46:39 > 0:46:41It won't be too much for her today?

0:46:41 > 0:46:43No, she's ready for it.

0:46:43 > 0:46:44Definitely.

0:46:44 > 0:46:46Oh, my God, this is so crazy.

0:46:46 > 0:46:48I can see the roof.

0:46:56 > 0:46:58- Samuel!- Hello.

0:47:00 > 0:47:01Hello.

0:47:04 > 0:47:06Oh, Samuel. I love you so much.

0:47:19 > 0:47:21- Are you ready?- Yeah.

0:47:21 > 0:47:22Super ready.

0:47:24 > 0:47:26Oh, my God! Look at the drive!

0:47:26 > 0:47:27- Oh, it's amazing. - Yeah, well, access,

0:47:27 > 0:47:29we kind of thought it was important for you

0:47:29 > 0:47:31to be able to get an ambulance if you need to, in and out,

0:47:31 > 0:47:33- and enough turning space. - It's amazing.- It's amazing.

0:47:33 > 0:47:36- Oh, look, there's a little bench. - Oh, it's amazing.

0:47:37 > 0:47:40Your front door used to be there, and it's not any more, it's there.

0:47:40 > 0:47:42This is to make maximum use of the inside,

0:47:42 > 0:47:44but also to give you easy access.

0:47:44 > 0:47:45Are you calm enough?

0:47:45 > 0:47:47- Are you all right?- Yeah.

0:47:47 > 0:47:49- Promise not to peek?- Pinky swear.

0:47:49 > 0:47:50- Pinky swear?- Yeah.- OK.

0:47:50 > 0:47:52- Shall we get started, then?- Yeah.

0:47:52 > 0:47:55This will be something that you can do yourself,

0:47:55 > 0:47:57but not with your eyes closed.

0:47:57 > 0:47:59SHE LAUGHS

0:47:59 > 0:48:01Does not smell like hospitals.

0:48:04 > 0:48:05We've created a home that means

0:48:05 > 0:48:08you can all be back together as a family after so long.

0:48:09 > 0:48:11Open your eyes.

0:48:11 > 0:48:14- Oh, my God.- Oh, my God.

0:48:14 > 0:48:17- It's beautiful.- It's amazing. - It's amazing.

0:48:18 > 0:48:21That sofa looks super comfy.

0:48:21 > 0:48:23Look at someone's artwork.

0:48:24 > 0:48:29There's all my pictures of me and Plum.

0:48:31 > 0:48:33Can't believe it, I can't believe it.

0:48:33 > 0:48:35It's absolutely beautiful.

0:48:35 > 0:48:37It's crazy, isn't it?

0:48:37 > 0:48:39Doesn't even look anything like it.

0:48:39 > 0:48:41And look at the hoist.

0:48:41 > 0:48:42Oh, wow.

0:48:42 > 0:48:44If you wanted to have some time on the sofa,

0:48:44 > 0:48:46you can use the hoist to get up and down, move about.

0:48:46 > 0:48:49Also, as we know, there is always a danger of you passing out,

0:48:49 > 0:48:52falling to the floor. Whoever's with you has got the hoist then

0:48:52 > 0:48:54to able to lift you and get you back in.

0:48:54 > 0:48:57And then you can just put me on the sofa.

0:48:57 > 0:48:59- Yeah.- I don't have to lie on the floor for hours.

0:48:59 > 0:49:01- Normal stuff.- It's so cool.

0:49:05 > 0:49:06What's the beeping? How's the beeping?

0:49:06 > 0:49:08Are you all right?

0:49:08 > 0:49:10- Your heart rate up? - I'm fine, I'm all good.

0:49:10 > 0:49:12Right, so this is just the first bit.

0:49:12 > 0:49:13I could just live in here.

0:49:13 > 0:49:15Oh, no, you wait till you see the rest of it.

0:49:15 > 0:49:17Ready? Do you want to take the lead?

0:49:22 > 0:49:24Oh, my gosh! Look at our kitchen.

0:49:24 > 0:49:26Wow.

0:49:26 > 0:49:28Look, it says VSA.

0:49:28 > 0:49:30That is so, so beautiful.

0:49:30 > 0:49:32It's amazing.

0:49:32 > 0:49:34- Oxygen.- This is your piped oxygen,

0:49:34 > 0:49:37which goes up and around and to every room in the house.

0:49:37 > 0:49:39So wherever you are, you don't have to take a bottle.

0:49:39 > 0:49:40You can unplug and plug in.

0:49:40 > 0:49:42You're not allowed to box it in,

0:49:42 > 0:49:44but you are allowed to have a little table top over the top.

0:49:44 > 0:49:47So we've done that to try and make the least impression on the area.

0:49:47 > 0:49:48Cos we don't want this to look...

0:49:48 > 0:49:49Like a hospital, yeah.

0:49:49 > 0:49:51And it isn't, is it?

0:49:51 > 0:49:53It's my home. High-five.

0:49:53 > 0:49:55That's very cool.

0:49:55 > 0:49:57Do you recognise the table?

0:49:57 > 0:50:00It's our table, isn't it? Oh, it's absolutely amazing.

0:50:00 > 0:50:02Oh, it says free to fly.

0:50:02 > 0:50:05- It does.- Look at the butterfly on the corner.

0:50:06 > 0:50:08It's so gorgeous, I love it.

0:50:08 > 0:50:11Wow. It is absolutely beautiful.

0:50:11 > 0:50:14- I love it.- It's so cool.

0:50:14 > 0:50:16- I'm a bit like...- I know, it's quite overwhelming.

0:50:16 > 0:50:18I didn't expect it to be so perfect.

0:50:18 > 0:50:21If you think about it, that's all of your house, isn't it?

0:50:21 > 0:50:23- Think of the shape of your house. - Yes, it is.

0:50:23 > 0:50:26- Taken a few walls out. - You've taken a lot of walls out.

0:50:26 > 0:50:29Samuel's still trying to work it out, isn't he?

0:50:29 > 0:50:31I just can't believe it.

0:50:31 > 0:50:32It's amazing.

0:50:34 > 0:50:36Oh, my...

0:50:36 > 0:50:38Oh, my God!

0:50:40 > 0:50:43Look at the prints!

0:50:43 > 0:50:47- Wow.- I can put all of my make-up on.

0:50:47 > 0:50:48The zebras are so cute.

0:50:48 > 0:50:51It won't surprise you to know that this is the only wallpaper

0:50:51 > 0:50:53- like it in the world. - It is beautiful.

0:50:53 > 0:50:56It's been designed for you by Laurence, with the A, obviously,

0:50:56 > 0:50:57and the zebras and the butterflies.

0:50:57 > 0:50:58I love it.

0:50:58 > 0:51:00It's so cool.

0:51:00 > 0:51:06Essentially, hoist goes from here all the way through...

0:51:06 > 0:51:08and out and along.

0:51:08 > 0:51:10Oh, my goodness, look at that.

0:51:10 > 0:51:12And disappears around the corner here to see the next part.

0:51:12 > 0:51:14Do you want to come and have a look?

0:51:14 > 0:51:16This is absolutely...

0:51:16 > 0:51:17Oh, my gosh.

0:51:17 > 0:51:20- ..brilliant.- That looks so amazing.

0:51:20 > 0:51:22That looks like a really comfy bed.

0:51:22 > 0:51:25It's not just comfy, it does all kinds of amazing things.

0:51:25 > 0:51:27So, obviously, it is a medical bed as well.

0:51:27 > 0:51:30- I love it.- It is absolutely brilliant.

0:51:30 > 0:51:33Obviously, important part of this for your meds.

0:51:33 > 0:51:36To have your own fridge here for your meds.

0:51:36 > 0:51:39And this area here is the...

0:51:39 > 0:51:42- What do you call it? - Sterile area for my lines,

0:51:42 > 0:51:46and my TPN and my medicines. And it's not white!

0:51:47 > 0:51:49I absolutely love it.

0:51:49 > 0:51:51It's absolutely perfect.

0:51:51 > 0:51:54The wallpaper's not too bonkers and over the top?

0:51:54 > 0:51:56It's bonkers and over the top, and I love it!

0:51:56 > 0:51:59THEY LAUGH

0:51:59 > 0:52:01Is this what you wanted and hoped for and needed?

0:52:01 > 0:52:02This is everything.

0:52:02 > 0:52:06It is absolutely perfect, isn't it?

0:52:06 > 0:52:09Everything she needs is here, and it's beautiful.

0:52:09 > 0:52:11We can just have a completely fresh start,

0:52:11 > 0:52:13and Antonia can be in here

0:52:13 > 0:52:16and you can just do whatever you like and we can do whatever we like.

0:52:16 > 0:52:19It just feels like a home. I love it.

0:52:19 > 0:52:21Is it what you'd hoped for, Antonia?

0:52:21 > 0:52:23Yeah.

0:52:23 > 0:52:25It is.

0:56:42 > 0:56:45To see someone lose their independence

0:56:45 > 0:56:47over the last couple of years is the hardest thing

0:56:51 > 0:56:54We can't do anything about it, and we're all helpless.

0:56:54 > 0:56:57To have just been able to see her be able to have that independence,

0:57:01 > 0:57:03I can't put it into words. It's amazing.

0:57:08 > 0:57:09Hi.

0:57:12 > 0:57:14There's a butterfly theme running through this design,

0:57:14 > 0:57:16and it's really appropriate when you think about it,

0:57:16 > 0:57:18because Antonia's at that stage in her life

0:57:18 > 0:57:20where she should be spreading her wings,

0:57:20 > 0:57:23but despite the best efforts of all the medical staff looking after her,

0:57:23 > 0:57:24they couldn't get her home.

0:57:24 > 0:57:25But these people have.

0:57:25 > 0:57:27So now she CAN spread her wings,

0:57:27 > 0:57:30she can be that teenager and then flower into a woman,

0:57:30 > 0:57:33and have all her friends around and do what people do.

0:57:33 > 0:57:35That is an extraordinary gift, don't you think?

0:57:35 > 0:57:38Maybe you know somebody who needs your help.

0:57:39 > 0:57:41- Hi, princess.- Hiya.

0:57:47 > 0:57:51- It's amazing! - It only exists for you.- I know!

0:58:05 > 0:58:07- Thank you.- Take care, all right?
