0:00:02 > 0:00:04Welcome to Escape To The Country.

0:00:04 > 0:00:06These beautiful Victorian gardens behind me,

0:00:06 > 0:00:08were once described by Thomas Hardy

0:00:08 > 0:00:11as "quite the prettiest sight I ever saw in my life".

0:00:11 > 0:00:14Where are we? Stick around and I'll show you.

0:00:27 > 0:00:31'In today's show I'll be helping a couple of self-confessed urbanites

0:00:31 > 0:00:34'make a break for a new life with their young family in the country.'

0:00:34 > 0:00:36- Wow!- Come in, Scott.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39Goodness me. That's fantastic.

0:00:39 > 0:00:42'I'll be showing them an array of attractive rural properties.'

0:00:42 > 0:00:46Well, I don't think you need to bother showing us the rest!

0:00:46 > 0:00:48'And, of course, there's the Mystery House,

0:00:48 > 0:00:50'which might just brew up a storm.'

0:00:51 > 0:00:55Today we're on the historic border between Dorset and Wiltshire

0:00:55 > 0:00:57at the glorious Llama Tree Gardens.

0:00:57 > 0:01:00They're set within the enormous Camborne Chase estate

0:01:00 > 0:01:03and they were created back in 1880 by the estate's then owner,

0:01:03 > 0:01:07General Pitt-Rivers, as a place for enlightenment and entertainment.

0:01:07 > 0:01:10The perfect place to start any Escape To The Country.

0:01:10 > 0:01:15In the heart of the South Coast, Dorset covers 1,000 square miles.

0:01:15 > 0:01:19The Cranborne Chase dominates the northeast corner of the county,

0:01:19 > 0:01:21offering a spectacular landscape

0:01:21 > 0:01:24designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

0:01:24 > 0:01:27Fighting it out for breathtaking scenery

0:01:27 > 0:01:28is the county's Jurassic Coast -

0:01:28 > 0:01:3495 miles of heritage coastline headlining with landmarks such as Durdle Door.

0:01:34 > 0:01:38Lying at the eastern end, Sandbanks is still topping the charts.

0:01:38 > 0:01:41Constantly undergoing stylish redevelopment,

0:01:41 > 0:01:45it's now a densely-packed playground for the privileged few,

0:01:45 > 0:01:48with land prices amongst the fourth-most expensive in the world.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51The rest of Dorset couldn't be more different.

0:01:51 > 0:01:54With 50% of the population living in the southwest corner,

0:01:54 > 0:01:57vast swathes of countryside are sparsely populated,

0:01:57 > 0:02:01making it a wonderful place to live.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03When it comes to property-hunting in Dorset,

0:02:03 > 0:02:05the pocket that is the Camborne Chase area

0:02:05 > 0:02:08is one of the more undiscovered parts.

0:02:08 > 0:02:11And that's simply because around 40% of it is covered with landed estates

0:02:11 > 0:02:13and when you couple that to the fact

0:02:13 > 0:02:17that it's also one of the most depopulated parts of the Southwest,

0:02:17 > 0:02:20you get the idea that finding your ideal rural retreat

0:02:20 > 0:02:22can be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

0:02:22 > 0:02:27But, as ever, if you know how to look and where to look, there's plenty on offer.

0:02:27 > 0:02:30Hiding in 15 acres of land in Tarrant Launceston

0:02:30 > 0:02:33is this four-bedroom equestrian property,

0:02:33 > 0:02:36on the market for £1.5 million.

0:02:36 > 0:02:40The former farmhouse has been refurbished to a high standard,

0:02:40 > 0:02:42yet hasn't lost sight of its period charm.

0:02:42 > 0:02:44And the horses are well taken care of

0:02:44 > 0:02:46with the stables, paddock and menage.

0:02:46 > 0:02:50If that's a bit of a stretch but you still need an equestrian property,

0:02:50 > 0:02:53then how about this thatched house in Woodlands?

0:02:53 > 0:02:58At £545,000, the three-bedroom home has just over two acres of gardens and paddock.

0:02:58 > 0:03:03And from the stable block, it's just a short ride out to the bridleways and forest.

0:03:03 > 0:03:07Or finally, how about this three-bedroom cottage in Winfrith?

0:03:07 > 0:03:09On the market for 395.

0:03:09 > 0:03:14The rooms are large and light and the brick fireplaces and timber beams are a feature of the property,

0:03:14 > 0:03:17as is the well-maintained mature garden,

0:03:17 > 0:03:19which is packed with trees and shrubs.

0:03:22 > 0:03:23As you can see,

0:03:23 > 0:03:26there are plenty of very pretty properties on offer here in Dorset,

0:03:26 > 0:03:29which, to my mind, is as good a reason as any

0:03:29 > 0:03:32as to why today's buyers would want to move here.

0:03:32 > 0:03:34And they are Scott and Lorraine,

0:03:34 > 0:03:37who live in a three-bedroom semi-detached bungalow in Surrey

0:03:37 > 0:03:41with their two children, Lewis and Amy, and their collection of pets.

0:03:41 > 0:03:44Sadly for the children, they don't have the run of the back garden

0:03:44 > 0:03:48as Scott has turned his hobby into a business.

0:03:48 > 0:03:50This is our microbrewery.

0:03:50 > 0:03:53This is a family business that we started two years ago.

0:03:53 > 0:03:57It's very quickly taken off and now I need more space.

0:03:57 > 0:04:01It's not just the brewery that's making them so eager to hotfoot it to Dorset.

0:04:01 > 0:04:03We're fed up with the rat race.

0:04:03 > 0:04:05It's too busy and too built-up around here now.

0:04:05 > 0:04:09We think we could have a much better way of life in the countryside.

0:04:09 > 0:04:13We've talked about looking to move for the last seven years, really.

0:04:13 > 0:04:16When we used to go on holiday a lot down in the West Country,

0:04:16 > 0:04:20we used to think, "Wouldn't it be great to live in places like this?"

0:04:20 > 0:04:23The time was never right. Now the time is right for us.

0:04:23 > 0:04:24The children are at the right age

0:04:24 > 0:04:27and we've got a business that we can move and relocate.

0:04:27 > 0:04:31Scott and Lorraine have spent hours looking at houses on the Internet

0:04:31 > 0:04:35but as yet they haven't seen any in the flesh.

0:04:35 > 0:04:37We're both apprehensive about moving.

0:04:37 > 0:04:43We've been here a long time. All our lives we've lived in a suburban area. So it's big step.

0:04:43 > 0:04:47But it's also a challenge and we both quite excited about it as well.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49- It'd be like starting an adventure. - Yeah.

0:04:49 > 0:04:52So what sort of property will match their dream?

0:04:52 > 0:04:57We'd like a four-bedroomed detached house with spacious rooms.

0:04:57 > 0:04:59We'd like a property that's got character.

0:04:59 > 0:05:04A nice farmhouse kitchen with low beams and a nice view out on the countryside.

0:05:04 > 0:05:05- Inglenook fireplaces.- Yeah.

0:05:05 > 0:05:09Also, in the property, we would be looking for

0:05:09 > 0:05:11a suitable amount of land around the property

0:05:11 > 0:05:14for us to run the business from. And ideally with outbuildings.

0:05:14 > 0:05:17But we would consider a property that didn't have outbuildings

0:05:17 > 0:05:21if there was suitable space, in future, for us to put our own up.

0:05:21 > 0:05:26The land will be put to good use with a vegetable patch for the children

0:05:26 > 0:05:30and will hopefully accommodate a few extra family members, too.'

0:05:30 > 0:05:32This is Fluffy, my daughter's rabbit.

0:05:32 > 0:05:36The one thing we're really looking forward to, when we move, is to have more pets.

0:05:36 > 0:05:38Ideally, we'd like chickens as well.

0:05:38 > 0:05:44We're keen to crack on with the search but first Scott and Lorraine need to get a current valuation

0:05:44 > 0:05:48for the house they bought 11 years ago for 110,000.

0:05:48 > 0:05:49This is a lovely bungalow.

0:05:49 > 0:05:51Beautifully maintained and improved by the owners,

0:05:51 > 0:05:53in a very popular residential area.

0:05:53 > 0:05:56I believe the current valuation to be

0:05:56 > 0:06:00in the region of £350,000, although due to the unique nature

0:06:00 > 0:06:05of the business at the end of the garden, perhaps up to around £400,000.

0:06:07 > 0:06:10Personally, I'm very pleased with that.

0:06:10 > 0:06:12I just hope we can achieve it.

0:06:12 > 0:06:17So what's in the coffers for us to go house-hunting with?

0:06:17 > 0:06:19Our budget is going to be £400,000.

0:06:19 > 0:06:22We're willing to pay that if the property ticks all the right boxes.

0:06:24 > 0:06:29It's clear that the driving force behind this move is Scott's need to expand his brewing business,

0:06:29 > 0:06:33but of course they do need a family home to go with it.

0:06:33 > 0:06:36Specifically, they want somewhere with at least three bedrooms,

0:06:36 > 0:06:39lots of character, an area outside for a veg patch

0:06:39 > 0:06:41and maybe some chickens and, of course,

0:06:41 > 0:06:44some all-important outbuildings for the business of brewing beer.

0:06:44 > 0:06:46Given that the Cranborne Chase postcode

0:06:46 > 0:06:51is, arguably, one of the most exclusive and expensive in this part of the world,

0:06:51 > 0:06:55my guess is their budget of £400,000 or so could be a bit stretched.

0:06:55 > 0:06:59Scott and Lorraine will still need to make beer deliveries

0:06:59 > 0:07:01to their existing customers in Surrey

0:07:01 > 0:07:03until they build up a new client base in Dorset.

0:07:03 > 0:07:06Therefore, we're concentrating the search

0:07:06 > 0:07:07around the north of the county,

0:07:07 > 0:07:10where the travel time back to Surrey should be less than two hours.

0:07:10 > 0:07:16Over the course of two days, I'll be taking them on a whistle-stop tour of terrific properties,

0:07:16 > 0:07:21as ever, I'll leave them in the dark regarding the prices until they've had a good look around.

0:07:21 > 0:07:26And, finally, there's the Mystery House, which I'm sure will cause a bit of a stir.

0:07:26 > 0:07:30Welcome to North Dorset. Is this the sort of thing you had in mind?

0:07:30 > 0:07:32The heart of Cranborne Chase?

0:07:32 > 0:07:35- It's perfect, really ideal. - Absolutely superb.

0:07:35 > 0:07:41Well, it is superb for a very good reason, which also makes it very popular and very expensive.

0:07:41 > 0:07:44Your budget of 400 grand or so, can that be pushed at all?

0:07:44 > 0:07:48- 430 max.- 430 tops. - It's creeping up a little bit?- Yeah.

0:07:48 > 0:07:52We're going to need all of that, I suspect, because there's quite a lot to fit in, isn't there?

0:07:52 > 0:07:59You two, your two kids, Amy and Lewis, and a growing menagerie of animals.

0:07:59 > 0:08:01Yeah, we've got cats, rabbits, fish.

0:08:01 > 0:08:04- Hopefully chickens in the future. - Hopefully chickens in the future.

0:08:04 > 0:08:07So this really is a lifestyle change

0:08:07 > 0:08:11because you can take the brewery with you and have it all at home?

0:08:11 > 0:08:14- Yeah.- That's the plan initially, yes.

0:08:14 > 0:08:16We've got an awful lot for you to look at.

0:08:16 > 0:08:18Dorset beckons, as you can see.

0:08:18 > 0:08:22- Here it is. Let's go see what we can find.- Excellent. Brilliant.

0:08:22 > 0:08:26Scott and Lorraine have a budget of up to £430,000

0:08:26 > 0:08:29and for that they're looking for a detached house

0:08:29 > 0:08:33with character features, a farmhouse kitchen,

0:08:33 > 0:08:35four bedrooms, an outbuilding for the business

0:08:35 > 0:08:40and enough land for a vegetable patch and a few animals.

0:08:43 > 0:08:47We always assume that it's a big move for buyers

0:08:47 > 0:08:50but what about the children? How do they feel about it?

0:08:50 > 0:08:53Well, that was a big concern, obviously.

0:08:53 > 0:08:55We've discussed it at length for both of them.

0:08:55 > 0:08:58They're both very excited about it, which is encouraging.

0:08:58 > 0:09:01It's very difficult to fit in again sometimes.

0:09:01 > 0:09:04If friends have got their established groups.

0:09:04 > 0:09:09But I think they're young enough to overcome that and if we don't do it now, I don't think we'll ever to it.

0:09:09 > 0:09:13And we'll spend the rest of our lives wondering what might have been.

0:09:13 > 0:09:15Yes, we don't want to regret not having done it.

0:09:15 > 0:09:18The first house on our viewing list,

0:09:18 > 0:09:22and indeed the first house ever in Dorset for Scott and Lorraine,

0:09:22 > 0:09:23is in East Stour,

0:09:23 > 0:09:25four miles west of Shaftesbury

0:09:25 > 0:09:27and two hours from clients in Surrey.

0:09:27 > 0:09:31This small village sits amongst the tranquillity of the Blackmore Vale.

0:09:31 > 0:09:36Much of the land here is given over to dairy farming and with this countryside on their doorstep,

0:09:36 > 0:09:39there'll be plenty for the family to explore.

0:09:39 > 0:09:42The house we've lined up dates back to 1600, at its core,

0:09:42 > 0:09:45and if its character they're looking for, we're in for a real treat.

0:09:45 > 0:09:49Right, then, house number one.

0:09:49 > 0:09:53- Excellent. - On our grand tour of Dorset.

0:09:53 > 0:09:55- Wow.- What do you think of that?

0:09:55 > 0:09:57- Really pretty.- It's very nice.

0:09:57 > 0:10:01Wow. I can't wait to see it. I like the look of it, it's really good.

0:10:01 > 0:10:05I like the stonework on the front. It looks really, really nice.

0:10:05 > 0:10:08I suppose the other obvious thing to point out is THAT structure.

0:10:08 > 0:10:13- Yes!- It definitely feels like a medieval brewery to me.

0:10:13 > 0:10:17It's certainly got character to it, which is exactly what is needed for a small brewery.

0:10:17 > 0:10:20It won't take long to have it up and running in there.

0:10:20 > 0:10:23Let's get into the main event - the house.

0:10:23 > 0:10:24Can't wait!

0:10:24 > 0:10:26'Terrific. That's the brewery sorted

0:10:26 > 0:10:29'and I'm really excited to show them the house.'

0:10:29 > 0:10:32Right, then. Come in Lorraine.

0:10:32 > 0:10:34- Wow!- Come in, Scott.

0:10:34 > 0:10:37- Goodness me!- My goodness. - What do you think?

0:10:37 > 0:10:39- That's fantastic.- It's really nice.

0:10:39 > 0:10:42- Look at that staircase.- We've got a little office area for you in here.

0:10:42 > 0:10:45As you can see, there's the old outside wall of the property

0:10:45 > 0:10:48and the oldest-surviving window here, too.

0:10:48 > 0:10:51But come through here cos this is quite exciting.

0:10:51 > 0:10:52I love these doors.

0:10:52 > 0:10:57- Solid.- And of course the rest of the building, that's your 16th century.

0:10:57 > 0:10:59Wow. Look at that fireplace.

0:10:59 > 0:11:00Yeah.

0:11:00 > 0:11:04- Window seats.- That's nice. - It's got bags of character. - It's just stunning.

0:11:04 > 0:11:06Breathtaking.

0:11:06 > 0:11:11Come through here because you've got another original, beautiful fireplace.

0:11:11 > 0:11:15Wow! That is a fireplace, isn't it?

0:11:15 > 0:11:19- Yeah?- Yeah. Well, I don't think you need to bother showing us the rest!

0:11:19 > 0:11:21THEY ALL LAUGH

0:11:21 > 0:11:23It gets better, trust me. I think this is a gorgeous room.

0:11:23 > 0:11:27This beam over the fireplace is, in itself, original to the house.

0:11:27 > 0:11:32But if you look at this beam, you can see some graffiti on there and some marks.

0:11:32 > 0:11:35See that circle? With the leaves on?

0:11:35 > 0:11:36- These are witches' marks.- Really?

0:11:36 > 0:11:39Put on to ward off evil witches.

0:11:39 > 0:11:44What's quite curious is that there are several of them so there was obviously a bit of a witch issue!

0:11:44 > 0:11:46- Presumably they're all gone now! - Hopefully.

0:11:46 > 0:11:50'It's so rewarding to find such history in old properties

0:11:50 > 0:11:54'and it's easy to see why this house is grabbing them.

0:11:54 > 0:11:57'But will the kitchen be the picture of Lorraine's dreams?'

0:11:57 > 0:12:01- Through to the kitchen. Downstairs loo, which is always nice.- That's handy.

0:12:01 > 0:12:05- And then this is it. - Wow! This is good.

0:12:05 > 0:12:07There's a little dining area, too.

0:12:07 > 0:12:10It ticks all the right boxes here. This is just too perfect.

0:12:10 > 0:12:12Could you say that again?

0:12:12 > 0:12:14"This is too perfect!" OK.

0:12:14 > 0:12:16- We're very happy, so far. - So far.- So far, yes.

0:12:16 > 0:12:20Let's go and explore the staircase. Go upstairs and have a look.

0:12:20 > 0:12:22After you.

0:12:24 > 0:12:27I absolutely love this.

0:12:27 > 0:12:28It's so original.

0:12:28 > 0:12:31- It's fun, isn't it?- Really fun.

0:12:31 > 0:12:34- Now, we've got Amy and Lewis? - That's right.

0:12:34 > 0:12:36Would this work for Lewis?

0:12:36 > 0:12:39I believe it would. It might be a bit tight for his toys.

0:12:39 > 0:12:45- He'll have to get rid of some! - Yeah. Moving is always a good, cathartic process.

0:12:45 > 0:12:47- We'll have a good sort out.- Exactly.

0:12:47 > 0:12:52His sister might be next door. Let's have a look at where Amy might go. Have a look in there.

0:12:52 > 0:12:55Wow! This is a good size.

0:12:55 > 0:12:58It is a good size. Amy would love this bedroom.

0:12:58 > 0:13:03- It's so pretty.- I think it could cause a few arguments, actually!

0:13:03 > 0:13:05They'd be fighting over this bedroom.

0:13:05 > 0:13:07All right, well, what about you two?

0:13:07 > 0:13:10- Oh, yes!- Master bedroom? - Can't wait.- Come and have a look.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14OK.

0:13:14 > 0:13:15Last but not least.

0:13:15 > 0:13:18- Oh, yes.- Oh, wow!

0:13:18 > 0:13:22To be fair, it's not the most enormous of bedrooms.

0:13:22 > 0:13:24But this is currently set up as the master,

0:13:24 > 0:13:28probably because it has this really stunning fireplace feature in it.

0:13:28 > 0:13:29Beautiful floor.

0:13:29 > 0:13:32Nice view of the garden and so forth.

0:13:32 > 0:13:34'It's a real cracker of a property

0:13:34 > 0:13:37'and I think they can see themselves at home here.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39'Even the bathroom is full of character.

0:13:39 > 0:13:41'So, with the brewing business taken care of in the barn,

0:13:41 > 0:13:45'it's time to see if the garden offers them what they're looking for.'

0:13:45 > 0:13:48OK. What have we got out here for you?

0:13:48 > 0:13:49It's very pretty.

0:13:49 > 0:13:53- It's very pretty. It's not acres, to be honest with you.- No.

0:13:53 > 0:13:55But it does have all the components.

0:13:55 > 0:13:59You have a bit of mature garden for the kids to play in.

0:13:59 > 0:14:02Nice, very well looked after vegetable patch, as you can see.

0:14:02 > 0:14:04- That's perfect. - That's ideal, isn't it?

0:14:04 > 0:14:08- Greenhouse, as you can see. - It's a pretty country garden.

0:14:08 > 0:14:10I don't know where the chickens would go.

0:14:10 > 0:14:13I think we could maybe get a few in round here.

0:14:13 > 0:14:16- We don't necessarily need a greenhouse.- That's true.

0:14:16 > 0:14:21- You get another view of this really pretty period house.- It's gorgeous.

0:14:21 > 0:14:22It is very picturesque.

0:14:22 > 0:14:26But, of course, the acid test is going to be how much it is.

0:14:26 > 0:14:28Oh, yes! I hate to think.

0:14:28 > 0:14:31Well, let's have a think because it is our first one.

0:14:31 > 0:14:35It's a chance for you to really gauge the market here.

0:14:35 > 0:14:39Actually, genuinely looking round somewhere for the first time.

0:14:39 > 0:14:41Scott? Go on.

0:14:41 > 0:14:45It's got to be at the top end, hasn't it? I would have thought.

0:14:45 > 0:14:52- It's going to be a stab in the dark but I'd say it's got to be around 420.- 420. Lorraine?

0:14:52 > 0:14:54- I'd say our max, 430.- 430.

0:14:54 > 0:14:57- You're quite good, you two.- Are we?

0:14:57 > 0:14:59Actually, you've just straddled it.

0:14:59 > 0:15:01- It's on the market for 425. - Is it?- Really?

0:15:01 > 0:15:07The good news is you've got a pretty realistic eye for what things are going to cost you here.

0:15:07 > 0:15:08Erm...

0:15:08 > 0:15:11The other thing, of course, is it is technically under budget.

0:15:11 > 0:15:14The top end of your budget, but without an awful lot to do.

0:15:14 > 0:15:20The only thing, I suppose, is to put a bit of money into the barn at the front. How does that feel?

0:15:20 > 0:15:23Optimistic, definitely, about it.

0:15:23 > 0:15:24Good. It hasn't frightened you off?

0:15:24 > 0:15:28- No, no.- Certainly wouldn't rule it out.- No.- Good.

0:15:28 > 0:15:30All right, well, we've got plenty of time.

0:15:30 > 0:15:35- Go and have a look around and I'll catch up with you later. - OK, let's go.- Thank you.

0:15:35 > 0:15:38Brilliant. Well, I have to say, I am absolutely delighted.

0:15:38 > 0:15:43The nice thing about them is that they haven't looked at any properties in this area at all,

0:15:43 > 0:15:47so showing them the first one is always going to be something of a challenge.

0:15:47 > 0:15:50The good news is, it's under budget and they love it.

0:15:51 > 0:15:53At £430,000, this house does offer

0:15:53 > 0:15:58Scott and Lorraine the vast majority of what they're looking for.

0:15:58 > 0:16:00It's packed to the rafters with character.

0:16:00 > 0:16:04It has three bedrooms, a ready-made vegetable patch for the children

0:16:04 > 0:16:07and an outbuilding that can easily house their microbrewery.

0:16:07 > 0:16:12Well, this property has got bags of character, what with the beams and the fireplaces.

0:16:12 > 0:16:15It's just gorgeous. It's ideal for us.

0:16:15 > 0:16:18Someone's clearly put a lot of love into this property.

0:16:18 > 0:16:20The exposed woodwork is beautiful.

0:16:20 > 0:16:24So much detail here and so many features that are quite overwhelming.

0:16:24 > 0:16:28My only concern, really, would be the size of the garden.

0:16:28 > 0:16:34But, saying that, it is very pretty, and maybe that's the sacrifice we would take.

0:16:34 > 0:16:37It definitely gets the thumbs-up from me.

0:16:37 > 0:16:43- Well, yes...- What do you think of this?- Yes, there's good storage space up there, which is very useful.

0:16:43 > 0:16:44Yeah.

0:16:44 > 0:16:48I think it should just about manage, with some adapting, yeah.

0:16:48 > 0:16:49Ideas fermenting?

0:16:49 > 0:16:52- Yes.- Boom-boom! Haha! Good.

0:16:52 > 0:16:55I'm feeling thirsty myself. Come on.

0:16:59 > 0:17:02Scott and Lorraine's move to this part of the country

0:17:02 > 0:17:05is all about discovering new territory,

0:17:05 > 0:17:09and one of the wonderful gems in this county is the market town of Shaftesbury.

0:17:09 > 0:17:13To make the most of their visit to this medieval town in the Blackmore Vale,

0:17:13 > 0:17:15they're meeting up with Anna McDowell,

0:17:15 > 0:17:18a local resident who is chairman of the Shaftesbury Abbey Museum

0:17:18 > 0:17:20and very knowledgeable about the area.

0:17:20 > 0:17:23- It's a wonderful view from here, isn't it?- Absolutely amazing, yeah.

0:17:23 > 0:17:26We are actually one of the highest towns in the country.

0:17:26 > 0:17:28- Absolutely beautiful.- Gorgeous.

0:17:28 > 0:17:30Founded by Alfred the Great in 880,

0:17:30 > 0:17:32Shaftesbury became an important staging point

0:17:32 > 0:17:36on the London-to-West-Country route and prosperity grew.

0:17:36 > 0:17:38Today, tourism is a major industry,

0:17:38 > 0:17:41with visitors flocking to take in Gold Hill,

0:17:41 > 0:17:46the cobbled street made famous by a well-known 1970s bread advert.

0:17:46 > 0:17:48And all these tourists will need refreshment,

0:17:48 > 0:17:51which is good news for Scott's brewing business.

0:17:51 > 0:17:54The gardens of Shaftesbury Abbey, a short walk away,

0:17:54 > 0:17:56are also a hot tourist ticket.

0:17:56 > 0:17:59The abbey, built in 888, lies in ruins,

0:17:59 > 0:18:01but it was once a wealthy Benedictine nunnery.

0:18:01 > 0:18:06Dissolved in 1539, much of the stone was used to build local houses.

0:18:08 > 0:18:11Well, here we in the actual gardens of Shaftesbury Abbey.

0:18:11 > 0:18:14It's estimated about 350 people

0:18:14 > 0:18:16actually lived within the precinct wall

0:18:16 > 0:18:21- and, amongst them, the people who actually brewed the beer.- Right.

0:18:21 > 0:18:28Surprisingly, they actually drank an average of 1,500 pints a day.

0:18:28 > 0:18:30- My goodness.- I know.

0:18:30 > 0:18:34Well, don't forget the water was unsafe, it had to be purified

0:18:34 > 0:18:37- and the way they did that was through beer.- Ah.- Excellent.

0:18:37 > 0:18:41That's a lot of beer that would have made Scott a rich man,

0:18:41 > 0:18:46but for now, he'll have to look forward to building his own business near this scenic town.

0:18:46 > 0:18:47Look at the views.

0:18:47 > 0:18:49- Absolutely superb.- Magnificent.

0:18:49 > 0:18:52When we saw the views from Shaftesbury Abbey,

0:18:52 > 0:18:55we were effectively looking straight down into Dorset.

0:18:55 > 0:18:59- Here, You're looking straight over into Wiltshire.- Oh, right.

0:18:59 > 0:19:02- Shaftesbury is virtually on the border of both counties.- Mm.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05And with views like this, there's no wonder

0:19:05 > 0:19:09Scott and Lorraine want to make it their home.

0:19:09 > 0:19:11We're heading further southeast for our next house,

0:19:11 > 0:19:15which is in Pimperne, two miles north of Blandford Forum,

0:19:15 > 0:19:17and again two hours from clients in Surrey.

0:19:17 > 0:19:22Sitting on the Cranborne Chase, the village is believed to date back to Anglo-Saxon times.

0:19:22 > 0:19:26Today, it's a desirable place to live, with a thriving community.

0:19:26 > 0:19:31The property we are viewing is the old headmaster's house, and sits next to the primary school.

0:19:31 > 0:19:34- Come and have a look in here. Look - chickens!- Oh, wow!- Oh, yes. Wow.

0:19:34 > 0:19:38- You wanted chickens, there are some. - We have got chickens. Excellent.

0:19:38 > 0:19:41- Whether they come with the property...- Yeah!- Negotiable.

0:19:41 > 0:19:44This is what I want you to have a look at.

0:19:44 > 0:19:48Big, substantial Victorian family house.

0:19:48 > 0:19:50Looks impressive. Certainly looks big.

0:19:50 > 0:19:52- Very, very spacious. - That sounds good to me.

0:19:52 > 0:19:55- All right, let's go inside and have a look.- OK.

0:19:55 > 0:19:56See what you think.

0:19:56 > 0:19:58Leaving the chickens behind.

0:20:00 > 0:20:04- Grab the door, Scott. Let's start in here, shall we.- Ah.

0:20:05 > 0:20:08- It's a nice size.- Yeah. - Nice and light as well.

0:20:08 > 0:20:12- Big windows.- Picture rail.- Spacious. - Picture rail's very nice.

0:20:12 > 0:20:15- Working fire place, which is nice. - Yeah, it's a bonus.

0:20:15 > 0:20:18The nice thing about this is that there is a room

0:20:18 > 0:20:24similar to this over there. So, grown-up area, kid's area.

0:20:24 > 0:20:25Come and have a look through here.

0:20:28 > 0:20:32- Now here you've got what would technically be a dining room.- Right.

0:20:32 > 0:20:35- They've got it set up as a play room.- Ideal.- A possibility.

0:20:35 > 0:20:38- Yeah, definitely.- And they get their own working fireplace!

0:20:40 > 0:20:43- That fireplace is beautiful, isn't it?- It is.

0:20:43 > 0:20:46Let's have a look at the kitchen. Through here.

0:20:46 > 0:20:50- All right, then. There we are.- Ah, a good size kitchen.- What do you think?

0:20:50 > 0:20:54- Excellent.- It's got a nice feel about it.- I know, it's good.

0:20:54 > 0:20:56Is this growing on you, Scott?

0:20:56 > 0:21:00I get the sense, so far, as a building, it's struggling a little.

0:21:00 > 0:21:01I'm finding my way as I go.

0:21:01 > 0:21:07Being careful how I say it - I like to think things over a little first.

0:21:07 > 0:21:11- But yet, this room is very much more to my taste.- Good.

0:21:11 > 0:21:14- Imagine having a big farmhouse table here.- Yeah.

0:21:14 > 0:21:17And access out of the kitchen as well,

0:21:17 > 0:21:20which is something we miss having.

0:21:20 > 0:21:21In size and space, it does go on a bit.

0:21:21 > 0:21:24There's this huge range and fitted units

0:21:24 > 0:21:26and that really does make it.

0:21:26 > 0:21:28Oh, definitely. Yes.

0:21:28 > 0:21:32And the tiles are very much in keeping with the Victorian style.

0:21:32 > 0:21:36- Through there, you have a utility room.- That's handy.

0:21:36 > 0:21:38Downstairs cloak room. All right.

0:21:38 > 0:21:41I can see I'll have to work quite hard on this one.

0:21:41 > 0:21:42THEY LAUGH

0:21:42 > 0:21:46Let's go upstairs and see what you make of that because I think,

0:21:46 > 0:21:51in terms of space, that's where you really gain in a building like this.

0:21:51 > 0:21:53OK. Let's have a look.

0:21:54 > 0:21:58Scott and Lorraine don't seem to be getting on with this lovely house.

0:21:58 > 0:22:01It's much larger than the last but will they be swayed

0:22:01 > 0:22:03by space over character?

0:22:03 > 0:22:04- Through the baby gate.- Right.

0:22:04 > 0:22:07In terms of bedrooms, let's start with this.

0:22:07 > 0:22:12- Something of a guest room at the moment.- Yeah, it's nice. Good size.

0:22:12 > 0:22:18- I like the windows.- Big, sash windows.- It's a good size room.- But?

0:22:18 > 0:22:23- Come on, there's a but lurking in your mind.- Only cosmetic buts.

0:22:23 > 0:22:26I personally wouldn't paint the floor white -

0:22:26 > 0:22:27you'd be forever touching it up.

0:22:27 > 0:22:31I'd leave it stripped. It is fairly cosmetic.

0:22:31 > 0:22:34- In fairness, it's not the very cosy cottage that we've seen before.- No.

0:22:34 > 0:22:39No. And I think that's it. We were spoilt before!

0:22:39 > 0:22:43The mood has definitely dropped after the last house.

0:22:43 > 0:22:46Nevertheless, this is a beautiful property

0:22:46 > 0:22:50and the next two bedrooms are just as immaculately decorated.

0:22:50 > 0:22:53What's more, the bathroom doesn't need attention either,

0:22:53 > 0:22:56so, last stop, the master.

0:22:56 > 0:23:01- OK, this is currently the master.- Wow.

0:23:01 > 0:23:04- Airy, light. Original features. - Yeah.

0:23:04 > 0:23:10- Yep.- It's a room, with four walls.- OK, yep.

0:23:10 > 0:23:12- What more can you really say? - Indeed.

0:23:12 > 0:23:15That's one of the things about this style of architecture.

0:23:15 > 0:23:19Maybe the question is whether Victorian is the style for you.

0:23:19 > 0:23:21Mmm, something to consider.

0:23:21 > 0:23:23It's very sameish from room to room.

0:23:23 > 0:23:26A lot of the features have been painted over in white.

0:23:26 > 0:23:29It's quite difficult to get that Victorian feel from it.

0:23:29 > 0:23:34- Yeah.- But after we've seen the last property, it is quite a contrast.

0:23:34 > 0:23:37- A stark contrast.- Yeah.- Right.

0:23:37 > 0:23:38Garden.

0:23:44 > 0:23:47So, that's the house inside. Pretty much.

0:23:47 > 0:23:52But the garden has one or two interesting features,

0:23:52 > 0:23:55- not least, this, Scott. Double garage.- Oh, yes.

0:23:55 > 0:23:58So again, thinking about this brewery, it could all happen,

0:23:58 > 0:24:01for a while at least, in there.

0:24:01 > 0:24:04The other thing is that there are some industrial units

0:24:04 > 0:24:07in the village, so you could have it separate.

0:24:07 > 0:24:11- It might be another option. - Might well be.

0:24:11 > 0:24:14And you've got the playing field attached to the school,

0:24:14 > 0:24:17- which you get the use of at weekends.- Great for the children.

0:24:17 > 0:24:20This property has lots going for it

0:24:20 > 0:24:22but I get the feeling it's not exciting them.

0:24:22 > 0:24:24But what will they make of the garden?

0:24:25 > 0:24:29- A nice little sun trap here. - Yeah.- Yeah.

0:24:29 > 0:24:34- A rambling Victorian garden. Pretty, isn't it?- Nice pond.

0:24:34 > 0:24:36- Yeah.- Obviously established.

0:24:36 > 0:24:39Well, let's think about the price, Lorraine.

0:24:39 > 0:24:46- Maybe that will have a bearing on things.- I'd say about 380.- 380? OK.

0:24:46 > 0:24:54- Bit cheeky.- Is it?!- Actually, I was thinking a little less.

0:24:54 > 0:24:58- I may be miles out but I was thinking more like 365.- 365?

0:24:58 > 0:25:01I feel there's a little bit of money could be spent here.

0:25:01 > 0:25:04And compared to the last property... That's what does it.

0:25:04 > 0:25:06I think we're biased towards the last one.

0:25:06 > 0:25:10I suspect that's entirely what's going on because you do,

0:25:10 > 0:25:14I think, yard for yard, probably get more house here.

0:25:14 > 0:25:19The village location here is a highly sought-after place.

0:25:19 > 0:25:20That is good, yeah.

0:25:20 > 0:25:23This is on the market for...

0:25:23 > 0:25:25399.

0:25:25 > 0:25:27Oh, really?!

0:25:27 > 0:25:30- You were far closer than I. - Still a bit out!

0:25:30 > 0:25:31Well, still both out.

0:25:31 > 0:25:35In fairness, a lot of work has been done, the kitchen, a lot

0:25:35 > 0:25:38of the reception rooms downstairs, they've had a lot of attention.

0:25:38 > 0:25:41OK. Go and have another look around.

0:25:41 > 0:25:44Have a good think and I'll catch up later.

0:25:46 > 0:25:50This Victorian house might not have the cosy cottage features but

0:25:50 > 0:25:54it is a large family home, next to a school and in a desirable location.

0:25:54 > 0:25:59At a shade under £400,000, it has a kitchen diner, four bedrooms,

0:25:59 > 0:26:02a garage that could accommodate the brewery

0:26:02 > 0:26:06and a garden large enough to take small animals and a vegetable patch.

0:26:06 > 0:26:09This house would be great for the children but will it get them

0:26:09 > 0:26:11thinking about moving the business?

0:26:11 > 0:26:14This is definitely my favourite room in the place.

0:26:14 > 0:26:18Oh, it's lovely, isn't it. With the range cooker.

0:26:18 > 0:26:20You wouldn't need to do anything in here. It's ready to go.

0:26:20 > 0:26:22- It's a good size. - Yeah, very nice indeed.

0:26:22 > 0:26:26It's different to what I was expecting.

0:26:26 > 0:26:30It's clearly a lovely family house. It's spacious.

0:26:30 > 0:26:32This property is in a lovely location,

0:26:32 > 0:26:34right next to the school, it would be perfect for the children.

0:26:34 > 0:26:37It's got a lovely kitchen, with a range cooker,

0:26:37 > 0:26:41- which I would really like. - The rooms are quite boxy.

0:26:41 > 0:26:45Personally, I'd prefer a lounge with more room to spread out.

0:26:45 > 0:26:49Also, it's very close to a school and

0:26:49 > 0:26:54if I were potentially working here all day, the noise might get to me.

0:26:57 > 0:27:00- Hello.- Hello! Well, there we are.

0:27:00 > 0:27:03- We're halfway through our house search.- OK.

0:27:03 > 0:27:06- There's plenty more to show you. Come on.- Excellent.

0:27:11 > 0:27:16Scott and Lorraine will be looking for plenty of ideas for family days out when they move.

0:27:16 > 0:27:18Top of my list would be the Llama Tree Gardens,

0:27:18 > 0:27:25created by one of my great archaeological heroes from the past, Augustus Henry Lane Fox.

0:27:25 > 0:27:30As an archaeologist and keen gardener, I couldn't resist a visit to this wonderful venue.

0:27:30 > 0:27:34Lane Fox, an army general, inherited the Rushmore Estate

0:27:34 > 0:27:37on the Cranbourne Chase in 1880

0:27:37 > 0:27:40on the proviso he changed his name to Pitt-Rivers.

0:27:40 > 0:27:41It was here that he embarked

0:27:41 > 0:27:44on pursuing his passion for archaeology and education.

0:27:44 > 0:27:48And he's regarded by many as the father of English archaeology.

0:27:48 > 0:27:51Adrian Green from the Salisbury Museum knows more about

0:27:51 > 0:27:58this remarkable man and I'm meeting him in front of the singing theatre which is still in use today.

0:27:58 > 0:28:02Now for any of us interested in history, the name Pitt-Rivers is unrivalled, in some respects,

0:28:02 > 0:28:05but I had no idea he was such a keen gardener.

0:28:05 > 0:28:08Nor did I until I came and worked here two years ago.

0:28:08 > 0:28:11We've all heard that he was a very famous archaeologist,

0:28:11 > 0:28:13but not that he'd set up gardens in Cranborne Chase.

0:28:13 > 0:28:19This is a place that, I suspect, is all about fun and less about formal gardening.

0:28:19 > 0:28:20Absolutely. A way of drawing people in.

0:28:20 > 0:28:24In the 19th century, all this area was covered in private estates

0:28:24 > 0:28:27and working people would not have had access to places like this.

0:28:27 > 0:28:32He created something here that would lure people in, because what he also had here was some serious learning.

0:28:32 > 0:28:34There was the fun here, but in Farnham,

0:28:34 > 0:28:38there was a museum which was full of all his archaeological discoveries from the local area.

0:28:38 > 0:28:42He thought, if I've got the museum, why not have gardens and make a day of it.

0:28:42 > 0:28:46It's an extraordinary thought that this man created these gardens

0:28:46 > 0:28:50- just to get people interested in history.- Absolutely.

0:28:51 > 0:28:56'By 1899, the gardens, with their ornate buildings, wonderful shrub borders and water features,

0:28:56 > 0:29:00'were an enormously popular theme park, attracting 44,000 visitors a year.

0:29:00 > 0:29:05'But, unfortunately, they later fell into disrepair.

0:29:05 > 0:29:07'With the help of English Heritage,

0:29:07 > 0:29:11'they've been restored to their former glory to be enjoyed once again.'

0:29:11 > 0:29:15What is it for you that really sets Pitt-Rivers apart as an archaeologist?

0:29:15 > 0:29:16His attention to detail.

0:29:16 > 0:29:20He recorded the sites, where the objects were found. He produced detailed plans of them.

0:29:20 > 0:29:24He even published what he did, which was pretty ahead of his time.

0:29:24 > 0:29:28There were four volumes like this one full of all his archaeological finds.

0:29:28 > 0:29:31It's an invaluable resource for modern archaeologists.

0:29:31 > 0:29:33The fact that it ended up in his hands

0:29:33 > 0:29:36really has left us something for the future that we all still enjoy.

0:29:36 > 0:29:39He said that it was like some unforeseen hand

0:29:39 > 0:29:42had passed the estate to him so he could follow his passions.

0:29:42 > 0:29:45We can come here still, come to the Llama Tree gardens

0:29:45 > 0:29:50and also walk in his footsteps across the estate, exploring the landscape that's here today.

0:29:50 > 0:29:55'It is, without doubt, a stunning and peaceful place and I'm sure it will be high up on anyone's list

0:29:55 > 0:30:00'of family days out. But as the last of the sun fades over Dorset,

0:30:00 > 0:30:04'Scott and Lorraine have a recap on the house hunt so far.'

0:30:04 > 0:30:08What are your thoughts on the Grade II listed property we viewed?

0:30:08 > 0:30:11Well, that was fantastic. It blew me away when I saw it.

0:30:11 > 0:30:15Bags of character. The fireplaces were fantastic.

0:30:15 > 0:30:19- All that exposed wood. - I can just see us living there.

0:30:19 > 0:30:23- The garden was beautiful. - And what about the brewery? Would that fit in there?

0:30:23 > 0:30:26It would be fairly easy to fit that in, certainly initially.

0:30:26 > 0:30:29I could run it from there for some time, I would think.

0:30:29 > 0:30:32- It would take a lot to beat it, wouldn't it?- It would, definitely.

0:30:32 > 0:30:35What did you think of the Victorian house?

0:30:35 > 0:30:39I didn't really know what to make of it. It's a lovely family home.

0:30:39 > 0:30:43I felt the bedrooms and the living room downstairs were a bit boxy.

0:30:43 > 0:30:47I'd have liked a lounge I could spread out in a bit more.

0:30:47 > 0:30:49Having said that, I loved the kitchen.

0:30:49 > 0:30:53- That was a good size. - Very nice. And the utility room.

0:30:53 > 0:30:55What about the brewery? Nowhere to put that.

0:30:55 > 0:30:58I didn't think it was ideally located,

0:30:58 > 0:31:00right next to a school playground.

0:31:00 > 0:31:05- It was a lovely spot for the children.- Yeah.- But not the brewery.

0:31:05 > 0:31:06They've both been very interesting.

0:31:06 > 0:31:09- Two more to view tomorrow. - Yeah, it's early days.

0:31:09 > 0:31:13I can't wait to see what else they have in store for us.

0:31:20 > 0:31:26'Scott and Lorraine from Addlestone in Surrey want to relocate their family and brewing business

0:31:26 > 0:31:33'to North Dorset and have a budget of up to £430,000 that they hope will make their dream come true.

0:31:33 > 0:31:39'So far, they've viewed one house which got them excited, but coming up, we leave Lorraine speechless.'

0:31:39 > 0:31:40What about this for a kitchen?

0:31:40 > 0:31:43My goodness. Wow, I don't know what to say.

0:31:43 > 0:31:48'But will they be raising their glasses or crying into their beers by the end of the day?'

0:31:48 > 0:31:51- You're confusing us now.- Oh, really?

0:31:51 > 0:31:53Well, it's the Mystery House, haha!

0:31:56 > 0:31:59Here we are. Our final day's house hunt here in Dorset

0:31:59 > 0:32:01and there it is, stretching away behind me,

0:32:01 > 0:32:03this absolutely glorious county.

0:32:03 > 0:32:08It's perfectly clear that Scott and Lorraine have fallen in love with this place and they've also,

0:32:08 > 0:32:10it seems, fallen in love with one of our properties.

0:32:10 > 0:32:12The question is, can we better it today?

0:32:12 > 0:32:15Two more to come including the Mystery House.

0:32:15 > 0:32:17Let's see how we go.

0:32:18 > 0:32:21Well, we've had you in Dorset for a little while now.

0:32:21 > 0:32:23It's not an area that you've known that well.

0:32:23 > 0:32:27Now you've seen a bit more of it, are you sure you want to move?

0:32:27 > 0:32:30Very much so. It's not as flat as I was expecting.

0:32:30 > 0:32:35The scenery is far more hilly and you can see it, as well, because the hedges aren't too high.

0:32:35 > 0:32:39It definitely feels like home to me already. It's great.

0:32:39 > 0:32:41- That's a good sign.- Beautiful.

0:32:41 > 0:32:46I know that you have kind of fallen in love with a property already.

0:32:46 > 0:32:50- That's true.- So we've got to see if we can better that.

0:32:50 > 0:32:53- OK.- I think that's quite a tall order, isn't it?- Good luck. - Ah, well...

0:32:55 > 0:32:58'We're heading east this morning to the village of Holwell.

0:32:58 > 0:33:00'At two-and-a-half hours, it is furthest from Surrey,

0:33:00 > 0:33:04'but it's such a cracking property, we couldn't overlook it.'

0:33:04 > 0:33:06Hazelbury Bryan, just three miles away,

0:33:06 > 0:33:10is a tidy and attractive village with a popular pub and a village store.

0:33:10 > 0:33:14The house we've come to see dates back to the early 19th century

0:33:14 > 0:33:17and has all the character Scott and Lorraine crave.

0:33:17 > 0:33:23- There we are.- Wow, that looks great. - Our first offering on our final day's house hunt.- Fantastic.

0:33:23 > 0:33:25- Very nice.- That looks really good.

0:33:25 > 0:33:31- I like the look of that.- Yeah. - It's got a sort of farmhouse feel to it.- Plenty of character.

0:33:31 > 0:33:35- Yeah, looks very pretty.- Scott, a big double garage for you there.

0:33:35 > 0:33:37- Yes.- You may even want to make that bigger over time.

0:33:37 > 0:33:40But you could get going in there with the brewery.

0:33:40 > 0:33:42Yes, it'd certainly be a start.

0:33:42 > 0:33:45- I can't wait to see the rest of it. - Let's not hang around!

0:33:45 > 0:33:48If Scott is having doubts about the size of the garage

0:33:48 > 0:33:53he could rent an industrial unit and enjoy the benefit of the brewery not being on their doorstep.

0:33:53 > 0:33:55- Right, in we go.- Right.

0:33:55 > 0:34:02As you can see, utility room and boot room etc. You've got two doors to this place.

0:34:02 > 0:34:06This is the back door and it leads on to the kitchen through here.

0:34:06 > 0:34:08- Right, OK.- There we are, Lorraine.

0:34:08 > 0:34:11Wow, now that's what I call a farmhouse kitchen. Brilliant.

0:34:11 > 0:34:13- It is. - With a range cooker.

0:34:13 > 0:34:16I thought this was kind of what you had in mind, Lorraine.

0:34:16 > 0:34:19Yeah, rustic feel to it, brilliant. Really like it.

0:34:19 > 0:34:22Through there, we've got you a study area too.

0:34:22 > 0:34:23What are you thinking, Scott?

0:34:23 > 0:34:27I'm lost for words, really. It's got a lovely feel.

0:34:27 > 0:34:33- It has a warm feel as soon as you come through the door.- Yeah, yeah, cosy cottage.- Exactly.

0:34:33 > 0:34:35It's looking good.

0:34:35 > 0:34:38It's looking good? Well, let's see if it keeps looking good.

0:34:38 > 0:34:43Come with me. We're going into the older bit. Have a look at this.

0:34:43 > 0:34:45Oh, my word, that's spectacular.

0:34:45 > 0:34:46That is very nice.

0:34:46 > 0:34:49- That's really good.- Very nice.

0:34:49 > 0:34:53- Full of character.- Full of character. The inglenook there has a flue in it.

0:34:53 > 0:34:56- There's no wood burner...- It could be put back into use?- You could.

0:34:56 > 0:34:58Do you do a lot of dining?

0:34:58 > 0:35:01- Yeah, we do like to sit around the table to eat.- There you go.

0:35:01 > 0:35:03Great for Sunday roasts.

0:35:03 > 0:35:05- Superb. - You're painting the picture, Scott.

0:35:05 > 0:35:09This is all good. I can see it, I'll be around for lunch with you! Good.

0:35:09 > 0:35:12All right. Come through here, here's the living room,

0:35:12 > 0:35:14- full of lots more lovely features as well.- Wow.

0:35:14 > 0:35:16Look at that fireplace. Looks good.

0:35:16 > 0:35:19- Nice size. - And nicely out the way, too.

0:35:19 > 0:35:23- When you've had dinner, you can tuck yourselves away down here.- Relax here. Brilliant.

0:35:23 > 0:35:26- It's cosy without being too small as well.- Yeah.

0:35:26 > 0:35:29- There's enough room to spread out. - It's nice and light as well.

0:35:29 > 0:35:35This house exudes character and warmth, everything that I think Scott and Lorraine are looking for,

0:35:35 > 0:35:38and the conservatory off the lounge is a real bonus.

0:35:38 > 0:35:41But next for us, let's go upstairs.

0:35:42 > 0:35:46- You've got a bath and shower room in there.- OK.

0:35:46 > 0:35:51- A little boxroom in here.- Right. That's a good size, yeah. - Cosy little room.

0:35:51 > 0:35:53And this is really the main guest room...

0:35:53 > 0:35:57- Ah! Nice.- ..which I'd be very happy with if I was staying here.

0:35:57 > 0:36:00- Definitely, that's perfect. - Very good.

0:36:00 > 0:36:05- Lots of space and lots of character. And a place that you can really grow into.- Yeah.

0:36:05 > 0:36:07I can see that.

0:36:07 > 0:36:08Yeah, I can too.

0:36:08 > 0:36:12OK, good. Right, well, there's two more bedrooms to see.

0:36:12 > 0:36:14Let's continue. Off you go, down there.

0:36:14 > 0:36:17So of the four bedrooms, number three is in here.

0:36:17 > 0:36:20A little boxroom, currently a nursery.

0:36:23 > 0:36:28But of the two bathrooms, this one, I think, is really the family bathroom.

0:36:28 > 0:36:32- Wow, that is a good size. - Goodness me, that's a much better size, isn't it?

0:36:32 > 0:36:35Interestingly, it's right next door to the master bedroom,

0:36:35 > 0:36:39so you could punch through that wall, potentially, and give yourselves an en suite.

0:36:39 > 0:36:42- That's worth thinking about. - I like the sound of that.

0:36:42 > 0:36:44A bit more work for you, Scott. Oh, well!

0:36:44 > 0:36:46HE LAUGHS

0:36:46 > 0:36:52- So, finally, the master bedroom. - Right.

0:36:52 > 0:36:57- Wow. That is good. - That's more like it, isn't it? That's a good size, really good.

0:36:57 > 0:36:59- Windows on three sides.- Three sides.

0:36:59 > 0:37:01Perfect.

0:37:01 > 0:37:03- Really love it.- Impressive.

0:37:03 > 0:37:08Excellent. Right. Let's have a look outside in the garden because I know that is important to you.

0:37:08 > 0:37:12- Excellent.- Can't wait. - Let's see what you make of it.

0:37:12 > 0:37:15'There's bags of room in this house for the whole family

0:37:15 > 0:37:18'and I think the children are going to love the garden.'

0:37:18 > 0:37:20Sunshine!

0:37:20 > 0:37:27Hooray. As we start to go through the garden, you'll get the idea that it's in sort of zones, as it were.

0:37:27 > 0:37:31A little formal area here, box hedging and so forth.

0:37:31 > 0:37:35But the lawn is great. This, I think the kids would have a lot of fun in.

0:37:35 > 0:37:37- Yes, nice size.- Great size.- Yeah.

0:37:37 > 0:37:42- Some very mature fruit trees. Yeah, lovely.- I think this is a garden you could have a lot of fun in.- Yeah.

0:37:42 > 0:37:45- It's lovely. A great size. - Now then, chickens.

0:37:45 > 0:37:51- Yes, plenty of room for them. - Chickens, I think you've got bags of room for that if you need it.

0:37:51 > 0:37:55Plus, also, vegetables. Come and have a look at this.

0:37:57 > 0:38:02This all went in about five years ago, the structure and the hedge and so forth. Potatoes there.

0:38:02 > 0:38:06- It's all ready to go, isn't it? - Some parsley over there.

0:38:06 > 0:38:09- And lots of little fruit bushes here, too, which is quite interesting.- Right.

0:38:09 > 0:38:11Little greenhouse there.

0:38:11 > 0:38:15So all the kind of messy business of hardcore organic gardening

0:38:15 > 0:38:18- happens out the way in a very organised little space. - That's great.

0:38:18 > 0:38:23Wow, it all looks very good, it all sounds very good, but, Jules, can we afford it?

0:38:23 > 0:38:25Well, that's the million-dollar question.

0:38:25 > 0:38:29Let's have a little stroll back onto the lawn, shall we, and think about it?

0:38:29 > 0:38:34I wonder what figures have been running through your minds as we've walked through this property.

0:38:34 > 0:38:36All right, well let's get it over and done with.

0:38:36 > 0:38:39Let's talk about the difficult bit.

0:38:39 > 0:38:41You've got 430 maximum.

0:38:41 > 0:38:43Yes.

0:38:43 > 0:38:45OK. Lorraine?

0:38:45 > 0:38:49- Well, I think 440.- 440.

0:38:49 > 0:38:52Little bit over budget. Yeah, OK.

0:38:52 > 0:38:56I think it's definitely got to be towards the top end of our budget.

0:38:56 > 0:38:58So I think I'm going to go with 430.

0:38:58 > 0:39:03430. What if it was 440, just 10 grand over?

0:39:03 > 0:39:05I'd be disappointed.

0:39:05 > 0:39:09Well, don't be disappointed, Lorraine, because it's not 440 and it's not 430, Scott.

0:39:09 > 0:39:14This can be yours for £425,000.

0:39:14 > 0:39:18- Really?- That's good news. - I'd say that was very good news.

0:39:18 > 0:39:21It's got so much of what we're looking for.

0:39:21 > 0:39:24- It really will be a serious contender for us.- Definitely.

0:39:24 > 0:39:29Right, well, go and have a look around this serious contender and I'll catch up with you later.

0:39:29 > 0:39:35Brilliant. £425,000 for a property that really is a viable proposition for Lorraine and for Scott.

0:39:35 > 0:39:40Not only does it offer all the accommodation they're after but it has a wonderfully warm feel.

0:39:40 > 0:39:43And that's one of the things about looking around houses.

0:39:43 > 0:39:47Sometimes they do just scream out, and this is one of them. It's a real winner.

0:39:47 > 0:39:52At £425,000, this characterful home is tucked just under their budget.

0:40:01 > 0:40:05It's clear they love the house and if size is an issue in the garage,

0:40:05 > 0:40:07will they consider other options for the business?

0:40:10 > 0:40:13So what do you think about this for the brewery?

0:40:13 > 0:40:14It's not really ideal.

0:40:14 > 0:40:17The roof height's not here, there's not enough floor space.

0:40:17 > 0:40:20But we could temporarily or permanently put it in a local trading estate,

0:40:20 > 0:40:23which is something we could seriously look at.

0:40:23 > 0:40:27I really like this house. It's a great place, a lovely garden, plenty of space,

0:40:27 > 0:40:28the rooms have all got character.

0:40:28 > 0:40:32I can see there's quite a bit of work here for me to do

0:40:32 > 0:40:36but I'm not particularly put off by that because there would be no rush to get that done.

0:40:36 > 0:40:39It's just perfect. I love the farmhouse feel to it.

0:40:39 > 0:40:43It has four bedrooms, a large kitchen,

0:40:43 > 0:40:47it's got a large garden which I can see the children, the cats and the chickens running around in.

0:40:47 > 0:40:50So, yes, it definitely ticks all the right boxes.

0:40:50 > 0:40:55I don't think the business would work here. There isn't the space for the brewery.

0:40:55 > 0:41:01Having said that, the division between home life and work life has been blurred for a long time,

0:41:01 > 0:41:06so I will be quite happy to put it elsewhere, locally maybe, in an industrial unit or something.

0:41:06 > 0:41:10- Hello.- Hello, how are you? - Fine, good.

0:41:10 > 0:41:14Enjoying what might be your garden, who knows? Definite contender?

0:41:14 > 0:41:16Definite contender.

0:41:16 > 0:41:19- Brilliant. It's not over yet, though, plenty more to see. - Excellent.

0:41:25 > 0:41:27Meet the latest celebrity pet.

0:41:27 > 0:41:30From Jamie Oliver to the Duchess of Richmond,

0:41:30 > 0:41:33it seems keeping chickens is now all the rage.

0:41:33 > 0:41:36So it's not surprising Scott and Lorraine want to do the same.

0:41:36 > 0:41:40Over the last year, the number of battery hens that have been rehomed

0:41:40 > 0:41:44by the Battery Hen Welfare Trust has hit a staggering 61,000.

0:41:44 > 0:41:47But if you're looking for something fancier,

0:41:47 > 0:41:50there are a huge number of different breeds to choose from.

0:41:50 > 0:41:53Helen Crapnell, a local chicken breeder,

0:41:53 > 0:41:56is ready to give them the lowdown on these feathered friends.

0:41:56 > 0:42:00- Would you like to come and see what we do?- We would. Great. - Come this way.

0:42:00 > 0:42:03People often choose the ones they like the look of.

0:42:03 > 0:42:05However, each one of them has its own characteristics.

0:42:06 > 0:42:08All the breeds are different.

0:42:08 > 0:42:11The Partridge Wyandottes, they're quite docile birds.

0:42:11 > 0:42:15They're nice to have around, and they look absolutely beautiful.

0:42:15 > 0:42:18When they're fully grown, the partridge markings are very, very pretty.

0:42:18 > 0:42:21- Are they expensive to keep? - They're not expensive.

0:42:21 > 0:42:23I mean, if you're keeping them at home,

0:42:23 > 0:42:26you can feed them not only on poultry food,

0:42:26 > 0:42:30but you can also give them scraps as well, leftover vegetables.

0:42:30 > 0:42:34You can supplement their diet, which obviously keeps the costs down.

0:42:34 > 0:42:35Fantastic.

0:42:35 > 0:42:40Hens cost anything from £25 upwards, depending on the breed,

0:42:40 > 0:42:43but cost as little as 40p a week to feed.

0:42:43 > 0:42:45They are relatively easy to keep,

0:42:45 > 0:42:48but there are essentials you need to adhere to.

0:42:49 > 0:42:52These are our Silver Partridge Pekins.

0:42:55 > 0:42:59Once a month, we like to have a look at our birds

0:42:59 > 0:43:02and just give them a check-over to make sure everything's OK.

0:43:02 > 0:43:05So we would get them out and feel the weight of them,

0:43:05 > 0:43:09just have a general look at them, have a look in their feathers

0:43:09 > 0:43:11and see there's any sign of lice or anything.

0:43:11 > 0:43:16We give a preventative covering of powder once a month,

0:43:16 > 0:43:19because they do get lice. You do need to, unfortunately, now,

0:43:19 > 0:43:21watch out for people stealing your chickens.

0:43:21 > 0:43:25- Really?- Oh, really?- With the popularity of keeping chickens,

0:43:25 > 0:43:30the incidence of poultry theft has increased dramatically.

0:43:30 > 0:43:33And, obviously, they need to be protected from the fox.

0:43:33 > 0:43:34Right.

0:43:34 > 0:43:37So you'll need to be shutting them up every night.

0:43:37 > 0:43:38Right, OK.

0:43:38 > 0:43:41And look out for dogs, as well.

0:43:41 > 0:43:44But she's very friendly and she would quickly tame.

0:43:44 > 0:43:46- Would you like to hold her? - Ooh, yes, please!

0:43:48 > 0:43:50- There we go.- Aww.

0:43:51 > 0:43:54Ahh. Isn't she lovely?

0:43:54 > 0:43:56Do you think the children would like her?

0:43:56 > 0:44:00- Oh, I would think so!- There's no question about it.- They're so cute!

0:44:00 > 0:44:04I don't know about the children - I think Lorraine looks quite comfortable!

0:44:04 > 0:44:07All we need to do now is find the family a home.

0:44:10 > 0:44:13Well, at long last, it is Mystery House time.

0:44:13 > 0:44:17To be honest, I would love to offer Scott and Lorraine something like this.

0:44:17 > 0:44:21But, clearly, that would challenge their budget but so, too,

0:44:21 > 0:44:25will the Mystery House but if I'm honest, I think it is a challenge worth taking on.

0:44:26 > 0:44:29It is time to reveal that our mystery house is in Stalbridge,

0:44:29 > 0:44:3311 miles south-west of Shaftesbury and about a 2.25 hour journey

0:44:33 > 0:44:35back to valued clients in Surrey.

0:44:35 > 0:44:37With under 3,000 residents,

0:44:37 > 0:44:40Stalbridge is Dorset's smallest town.

0:44:40 > 0:44:43It has a good selection of independent shops yet retains

0:44:43 > 0:44:49a relatively laid-back feel so Scott and Lorraine need not worry about being in the thick of a busy town.

0:44:49 > 0:44:55Our Mystery House is believed to date back to the 17th century and is Grade 2 listed.

0:44:55 > 0:45:00With a possible business sweetener in store, it is a proposition too good to overlook.

0:45:00 > 0:45:06OK. Our final offering on our little tour of the properties of Northern Dorset. The Mystery House.

0:45:06 > 0:45:09- Wow, that is different, isn't it? - It is very different.

0:45:09 > 0:45:13It is allowed to be, it is the Mystery House but it's very different in some respects.

0:45:13 > 0:45:18We often use that word TARDIS, it is thrown around a lot but this is genuinely something of a TARDIS.

0:45:18 > 0:45:22- Sounds interesting. - Although, technically, it is a semi,

0:45:22 > 0:45:24which I know you didn't want...

0:45:24 > 0:45:26- That's true, yeah. - Trust us on this one.

0:45:26 > 0:45:31When you get inside, you'll see why we brought you here. It is quite extraordinary.

0:45:31 > 0:45:35- We trust you.- We'll keep an open mind.- Good, let's have a look.

0:45:37 > 0:45:39- Right. In you come.- OK.

0:45:39 > 0:45:43There we are, one of two reception rooms we've got for you.

0:45:43 > 0:45:45- What do you think?- I like it.

0:45:45 > 0:45:47It's great, a really good size.

0:45:47 > 0:45:49A very striking fireplace.

0:45:49 > 0:45:52- A real feature, isn't it? - Good. OK.

0:45:52 > 0:45:54Not what I was expecting.

0:45:57 > 0:45:58What about this for a kitchen?

0:45:58 > 0:46:02Oh, my goodness! Wow, it's incredible!

0:46:02 > 0:46:05It's completely different to anything I've seen.

0:46:05 > 0:46:12- It's wonderful.- It's contemporary mixed with traditional but it looks like a lot of fun.

0:46:12 > 0:46:16Behind us we've got a walk-in pantry and through that door is a downstairs cloakroom.

0:46:16 > 0:46:21We started in the 17th century, this is now the 18th century,

0:46:21 > 0:46:24giant leap forward through this doorway to the 21st century.

0:46:24 > 0:46:26Come and have a look.

0:46:26 > 0:46:30- Through here. - It looks great, a great dining area.

0:46:30 > 0:46:36- An all-inclusive space in which to dine, relax, have the kids doing their homework.- It's nice and light.

0:46:36 > 0:46:39- Excellent.- It is a great living area.

0:46:39 > 0:46:42- You're confusing us now.- Oh, really?

0:46:42 > 0:46:44Well, it's the Mystery House!

0:46:44 > 0:46:49This house offers plenty of space for Scott and Lorraine's family and back off the hall,

0:46:49 > 0:46:53there's a further reception room that could be ideal as a playroom.

0:46:53 > 0:46:57It also houses the staircase, which leads up to five bedrooms.

0:46:57 > 0:47:00The whole TARDIS thing continues up here.

0:47:00 > 0:47:03There are five bedrooms, of course. There is one in there.

0:47:03 > 0:47:04That is a good size.

0:47:04 > 0:47:08- I'll rattle through them.- OK. - One there overlooking the road.

0:47:08 > 0:47:11Again, the kids could have these rooms for the next ten years.

0:47:11 > 0:47:13- That's right.- Effectively.

0:47:13 > 0:47:17And then we have got three of five again, another great size.

0:47:17 > 0:47:22Wow. That is good. I'm just blown away by it all.

0:47:22 > 0:47:24There is another one up there, number four.

0:47:24 > 0:47:27Let's have a look at the master.

0:47:27 > 0:47:28So, there we are.

0:47:28 > 0:47:32Last but not least, the master.

0:47:32 > 0:47:33- And the view.- Wow.

0:47:33 > 0:47:36That is impressive.

0:47:36 > 0:47:41The view is amazing. The room is a little on the small side.

0:47:41 > 0:47:45Plenty of storage, though. That is always an issue with us, storage.

0:47:45 > 0:47:49How are we doing? On a scale?

0:47:49 > 0:47:54Higher than I was expecting. 8.5.

0:47:54 > 0:47:58You had no faith in the Mystery House, I am so disappointed.

0:47:58 > 0:48:03That is a score I'm happy with and the bathroom next door, although small, is beautifully put together.

0:48:03 > 0:48:07But now I'm really looking forward to showing off what lies outside.

0:48:07 > 0:48:12Just when you thought you'd seen it all here, there is a lot more out here.

0:48:12 > 0:48:16A very useful garage space for you, Scott, and down here we've got

0:48:16 > 0:48:20- this range of buildings, which are really interesting.- Oh, wow.

0:48:22 > 0:48:26- There we are.- Wow.- My goodness.

0:48:26 > 0:48:29Wouldn't this make a really pretty...brewhouse?

0:48:29 > 0:48:32- It would, it certainly would. - Yeah?- Yeah.

0:48:32 > 0:48:35You've done well here, certainly.

0:48:35 > 0:48:37But it gets better, because...

0:48:37 > 0:48:40- Does it?- You wanted a big garden. - Yeah.- Yeah.

0:48:40 > 0:48:43- How about an acre?- No?!

0:48:43 > 0:48:45Out you go.

0:48:46 > 0:48:50- We've talked a lot about vegetables on our property tours.- We did.

0:48:50 > 0:48:52- How about that? - That's very well organised.

0:48:52 > 0:48:57A nice little kitchen garden for you. And down there, an orchard.

0:48:57 > 0:48:59No, really?

0:48:59 > 0:49:03A great place for the kids to play around in.

0:49:03 > 0:49:06All the games and the dens. Look at these apple trees.

0:49:06 > 0:49:08What about making cider?

0:49:08 > 0:49:10Yeah. Let's give it a go.

0:49:10 > 0:49:13OK, let's stop here, shall we?

0:49:13 > 0:49:17It does go on a little further but it gives you an idea that

0:49:17 > 0:49:21this very long acre offers all sorts of possibilities.

0:49:21 > 0:49:24It's fantastic, the children will be blown away with it.

0:49:24 > 0:49:26- They'd be overwhelmed.- Yeah.

0:49:26 > 0:49:28Let's talk about the money.

0:49:28 > 0:49:32Cos this is quite a tricky one here.

0:49:32 > 0:49:39You've got 430. I think we all know which side of that this property is going to be.

0:49:39 > 0:49:43It's way over our budget, I would have thought. I don't know.

0:49:43 > 0:49:46Closer to 500, I would have said.

0:49:48 > 0:49:55The only thing is, being semi-detached that might be in our favour slightly on the value.

0:49:55 > 0:49:58It's a real difficult call, this one.

0:49:58 > 0:50:02I'm going to push my luck and say 450.

0:50:02 > 0:50:04450, gosh, I wish it were.

0:50:04 > 0:50:06I honestly wish it was.

0:50:06 > 0:50:08You are much closer to the truth.

0:50:08 > 0:50:12- Really?- It was on the market for the best part of £600,000.

0:50:12 > 0:50:14It's now on the market for 499.

0:50:14 > 0:50:19- Really?- Yes, it's 70,000 over budget, let's not pretend that is not a small amount of money

0:50:19 > 0:50:21but because this property fits you so well,

0:50:21 > 0:50:24we thought it was worth showing it to you.

0:50:24 > 0:50:28The other point to make is this area has been recently allocated

0:50:28 > 0:50:33quite a substantial sum for investing in new business in the area

0:50:33 > 0:50:38that's in support of tourism, the agrarian economy and local employment.

0:50:38 > 0:50:43That is a cool pot of £2.85 million in grants that are available.

0:50:43 > 0:50:46You as a business coming into the area that's looking to expand

0:50:46 > 0:50:47and employ people and so forth,

0:50:47 > 0:50:52from our very brief conversations with them,

0:50:52 > 0:50:56we're lead to understand that it's the sort of thing that might be of interest.

0:50:56 > 0:50:59Which may help you

0:50:59 > 0:51:03look ahead through your business plan to find that extra £70,000

0:51:03 > 0:51:06with a kind of medium-term view on where you're going to be.

0:51:06 > 0:51:08It's certainly worth pursuing.

0:51:08 > 0:51:12I think it's certainly worth pursuing. It's a few phone calls, a couple of letters.

0:51:12 > 0:51:17There might be an interest free scheme that might allow you to say, "We love this house so much,

0:51:17 > 0:51:22"It works for us as a business, as a location and as a family home, let's try and make it."

0:51:25 > 0:51:30At a shade under £500,000, this house is an interesting proposition.

0:51:30 > 0:51:35It has three reception rooms, the farmhouse-style kitchen they crave,

0:51:35 > 0:51:39five bedrooms and an outbuilding to accommodate their business.

0:51:39 > 0:51:43It is 70 grand over budget but it has everything they want

0:51:43 > 0:51:45and options they can investigate.

0:51:45 > 0:51:48It is, without doubt, worthy of consideration.

0:51:48 > 0:51:52It is everything that I'm looking for personally.

0:51:52 > 0:51:57You can walk out of the front door on to the high street, everything is within walking distance.

0:51:57 > 0:52:00You wouldn't even know when you came into the house.

0:52:00 > 0:52:02It feels like a really happy home

0:52:02 > 0:52:06but most of all, this room here is just what I'm looking for.

0:52:06 > 0:52:08But it's out of our reach.

0:52:08 > 0:52:11This property for me has it all.

0:52:11 > 0:52:14It has a beautiful kitchen, lovely spacious rooms,

0:52:14 > 0:52:18five bedrooms and those views are stunning.

0:52:18 > 0:52:20An acre of land, what more could you ask for?

0:52:20 > 0:52:25It's something to consider, even though it is really over budget.

0:52:25 > 0:52:28I'm going to take some steps, make some enquiries

0:52:28 > 0:52:32about that grant system and see what we can come up with.

0:52:32 > 0:52:34But I love this place.

0:52:34 > 0:52:35That's all I can really say.

0:52:35 > 0:52:38- I thought you would enjoy this one. - We certainly have.

0:52:38 > 0:52:41I'm afraid that's it, guys, house tours are now over.

0:52:41 > 0:52:43That was the Mystery House.

0:52:43 > 0:52:47- You have got, I suspect, some thinking to do.- I should say so.

0:52:47 > 0:52:49Let's get you somewhere where you can do just that

0:52:49 > 0:52:53- and then I will press you for some kind of decision.- Oh, dear.

0:52:53 > 0:52:55Come on, follow me.

0:52:59 > 0:53:03Scott and Lorraine's property tour of North Dorset has thrown up some interesting options

0:53:03 > 0:53:06but now it's time to weigh up the pros and cons.

0:53:08 > 0:53:12Now, throughout all of our house tours, Lorraine and Scott

0:53:12 > 0:53:16have consistently said that we have given them an awful lot to think about.

0:53:16 > 0:53:19We make even, I dare say, have caused a little bit of confusion,

0:53:19 > 0:53:21which, to be honest, is no bad thing.

0:53:21 > 0:53:24But to take the pain out of the decision-making process,

0:53:24 > 0:53:26I thought, "How about a picnic?"

0:53:31 > 0:53:36- Well, guys, what a lovely place to end our house search.- Glorious.

0:53:36 > 0:53:40There is only one thing wrong with this, we're not drinking your beer!

0:53:40 > 0:53:41Oh, no!

0:53:41 > 0:53:43I'm sure we can remedy that in the future.

0:53:43 > 0:53:48I certainly hope so. I suppose the burning question is, have we found you some way in which to make it?

0:53:48 > 0:53:54I think you certainly have found us somewhere to make it, unfortunately, it's a bit out of our reach.

0:53:54 > 0:53:57Let's have a think about all the things we've shown you.

0:53:57 > 0:54:02It all started with the lovely little cottage with a great, big wooden barn outside.

0:54:02 > 0:54:04That was special.

0:54:04 > 0:54:05It was an adorable place.

0:54:05 > 0:54:09Full of character, beautiful inside.

0:54:09 > 0:54:11A very charming place.

0:54:11 > 0:54:14- I thought you were going to write a cheque there and then.- Yeah, yeah.

0:54:14 > 0:54:17It's still a consideration, I would have thought.

0:54:17 > 0:54:19- So we are keeping that one in the air?- Yes.

0:54:19 > 0:54:21Well, then we went to the old headmaster's house.

0:54:21 > 0:54:23- Yeah.- Well, it was...

0:54:23 > 0:54:25There was nothing wrong with the property,

0:54:25 > 0:54:28but it wasn't quite what we were looking for.

0:54:28 > 0:54:31- Was it because it was too white? Was it as simple as that?- No.- No.

0:54:31 > 0:54:35- We could see past that.- Just the style of the property, I think.

0:54:35 > 0:54:37- It hasn't got that cosy, cottage feel to it.- Yeah.

0:54:37 > 0:54:39All right, well, another day came.

0:54:39 > 0:54:41We all slept on what we'd seen

0:54:41 > 0:54:46and we took you to that lovely great, big farmhouse. Big garden.

0:54:46 > 0:54:50- Lovely location. - I thought it was very nice indeed.

0:54:50 > 0:54:52The kitchen, you loved, didn't you?

0:54:52 > 0:54:53That was definitely it for me.

0:54:53 > 0:54:57A farmhouse feel to it, rustic, beautiful.

0:54:57 > 0:54:59- It's a strong contender.- Brilliant.

0:54:59 > 0:55:03OK, it wasn't quite over, cos then we took you to the Mystery House.

0:55:03 > 0:55:08- Yes, confused us.- It certainly put a spanner in the works.

0:55:08 > 0:55:11I said it was a TARDIS and I think you'll agree it was.

0:55:11 > 0:55:13My goodness me, yes.

0:55:13 > 0:55:16I couldn't believe it. I thought it was never going to end.

0:55:16 > 0:55:20Especially when we were going out the garden. The children would have loved that.

0:55:20 > 0:55:21It was a bit overwhelming.

0:55:21 > 0:55:24In terms of the brewery,

0:55:24 > 0:55:26that was a fascinating outbuilding, too.

0:55:26 > 0:55:32It was pretty much the way it needs to be for me to get straight in there get brewing and get it set up.

0:55:32 > 0:55:37We have avenues we can explore still, the grants that you mentioned

0:55:37 > 0:55:41and I'm going to make some tentative enquiries to see if we can get anywhere with that.

0:55:41 > 0:55:44Interesting. You have pre-empted my final question which is,

0:55:44 > 0:55:46what will you do about any of these houses?

0:55:46 > 0:55:49It sounds as if you have made your mind up in some respects.

0:55:49 > 0:55:54We have but we need to explore it a little further.

0:55:54 > 0:55:56- Have you enjoyed the process? - Definitely.

0:55:56 > 0:55:59- It's been brilliant, thank you very much. - Well, that is our pleasure.

0:55:59 > 0:56:04I do hope we have got some way to finding your ideal dream home and somewhere you can start

0:56:04 > 0:56:08making beer and next time, Scott, when I see you down in Dorset, I hope I'm not drinking this.

0:56:08 > 0:56:11- I hope I am drinking yours. - Consider it done.

0:56:11 > 0:56:13Cheers, guys. Well done.

0:56:13 > 0:56:15- Best of luck.- Thank you.

0:56:17 > 0:56:22You know, in some respects, this has been a funny old house search, really.

0:56:22 > 0:56:26We started with a very clear budget of £430,000 and certainly found

0:56:26 > 0:56:33Scott and Lorraine two very viable properties that came uncomfortably under that at a cool 425,000.

0:56:33 > 0:56:40But the Mystery House really did throw a spanner in the works at a whopping 70,000 over budget.

0:56:40 > 0:56:44Now, that is nothing to be sniffed at, it has to be said.

0:56:44 > 0:56:47But maybe the moral of the story, when you are buying a house,

0:56:47 > 0:56:51it is a long-term decision and also they are looking at a business.

0:56:51 > 0:56:55So maybe the point is, aim high and you will get what you want.

0:56:55 > 0:56:57I'll see you next time.

0:56:57 > 0:57:01If you'd like to escape to the country and need our help,
