0:00:02 > 0:00:04I'm in a county where this is the deadliest catch.
0:00:04 > 0:00:06Don't worry, it's not as vicious as it looks. Not now, anyway.
0:00:06 > 0:00:08Find out what I am as we escape to the country.
0:00:38 > 0:00:43On today's show, I'll be helping a leading lady and her scuba-loving husband
0:00:43 > 0:00:45dive in to a new life in a coastal county.
0:00:45 > 0:00:49And early on, one of the properties leaves them surprisingly lost words.
0:00:49 > 0:00:52- You were nearly speechless for a second there.- Nearly!
0:00:52 > 0:00:55I don't do speechless.
0:00:55 > 0:00:58Then the mystery house rustles up a real treat.
0:00:58 > 0:00:59- I love it.- Yeah?- Yeah.
0:01:03 > 0:01:08Today I'm in Cornwall and these are Cornish king crabs or spider crabs.
0:01:08 > 0:01:11They're native to the seas and rather tasty, I've been told.
0:01:11 > 0:01:15You'd be hard pressed to find them as dish of the day on a British menu.
0:01:15 > 0:01:19Although over 300 tonnes of spider crabs are caught in Cornish seas every year,
0:01:19 > 0:01:24around 95% of them are shipped off to the continent, where there's a healthy appetite for them.
0:01:24 > 0:01:26If they ask me, they're just being shellfish.
0:01:26 > 0:01:28Later on, I'll try my hand at fishing for them,
0:01:28 > 0:01:33but in the meantime, here are some of the other natural delights on offer in this lovely county.
0:01:35 > 0:01:41Located on the south-western tip of England, Cornwall is the UK's southernmost county.
0:01:41 > 0:01:4380% of Cornwall's borders are coastal,
0:01:43 > 0:01:47and its rich and varied shorelines span some 300 miles.
0:01:47 > 0:01:50The northern stretch, which faces the Atlantic Ocean,
0:01:50 > 0:01:53is a favourite with surfers, while the southern coastline is
0:01:53 > 0:01:57more secluded, with harbours and fishing villages.
0:01:57 > 0:02:00Steeped in legend, the county enjoys a rich history.
0:02:00 > 0:02:01Just on the outskirts of Falmouth,
0:02:01 > 0:02:06set high upon the headland, is the mighty Pendennis Castle.
0:02:06 > 0:02:09Built in the early 1540s on the orders of Henry VIII,
0:02:09 > 0:02:11it's stood for five centuries,
0:02:11 > 0:02:14protecting the British mainland from foreign invaders.
0:02:15 > 0:02:19When it comes to property prices, Cornwall does carry a small premium,
0:02:19 > 0:02:23with an average detached house setting you back around £265,000.
0:02:23 > 0:02:27That's £11,000 above national average.
0:02:27 > 0:02:31On the coast, you can expect to pay around 25% more, especially if
0:02:31 > 0:02:35you want a sea view in an attractive fishing village like St Mawes. Lovely.
0:02:35 > 0:02:38So if it's more bricks for your budget that you're after, the idea
0:02:38 > 0:02:41is that you move inland, but even here, properties are sought after.
0:02:41 > 0:02:44So there's coast and countryside aplenty
0:02:44 > 0:02:47and Cornwall isn't short on architectural style either.
0:02:47 > 0:02:51Attractive fishing villages and scenic harbours are a hallmark of
0:02:51 > 0:02:56the county, and a waterside property can cost from about £250,000
0:02:56 > 0:03:00for a traditional two-bedroom fisherman's cob and slate cottage.
0:03:00 > 0:03:04Away from the coast, you will find an array of houses built in local granite.
0:03:04 > 0:03:09Old miner's and farmworker's cottages, some dating back to the 18th century
0:03:09 > 0:03:14are priced at upwards of £360,000 for a four-bedroomed home.
0:03:14 > 0:03:16But if your budget is more substantial
0:03:16 > 0:03:20and you've got from around £500,000 to spend, you could be the proud owner
0:03:20 > 0:03:23of a 17th-century granite or stone farmhouse with plenty of land.
0:03:27 > 0:03:30When it comes to property, Cornwall has something for everyone,
0:03:30 > 0:03:32but will that be enough for today's buyers?
0:03:32 > 0:03:34Let's meet them and find out.
0:03:35 > 0:03:38Angela and Chris have been married for nearly 50 years,
0:03:38 > 0:03:40after meeting on a caravanning holiday.
0:03:40 > 0:03:43But now they're planning an adventure of a different kind.
0:03:43 > 0:03:49having spent over 40 years living in the historically industrial town of Altrincham in Cheshire.
0:03:49 > 0:03:52We are rather bored with living where we are at the moment,
0:03:52 > 0:03:57- as we've been here for longer than I can remember, really.- 40-odd years.
0:03:57 > 0:04:01And we've never moved out of the same telephone area.
0:04:01 > 0:04:08For our final fling, we want to go way away and go to the countryside.
0:04:08 > 0:04:11We think now it would be a fabulous time.
0:04:11 > 0:04:14Chris has agreed to retire... LAUGHTER
0:04:14 > 0:04:18- ..at long last.- Reluctantly, but there you go.- Reluctantly.
0:04:18 > 0:04:21So, with a little bit of arm-twisting from Angela, Chris has finally finished working.
0:04:21 > 0:04:26Now they're both ready to begin the next chapter of their lives together.
0:04:26 > 0:04:30We're really looking forward to a different lifestyle
0:04:30 > 0:04:32and definitely more green.
0:04:36 > 0:04:38Chris is a keen scuba-diver
0:04:38 > 0:04:42and with some of the best diving in the UK around the Cornish coast,
0:04:42 > 0:04:45they've decided it's the perfect county for the move.
0:04:45 > 0:04:49In the North of England, I dive in rather dark quarries.
0:04:49 > 0:04:53Sometimes the temperature is as low as 3 degrees, so understandably,
0:04:53 > 0:04:59I'm really looking forward to going to Cornwall and diving in seawater.
0:04:59 > 0:05:03As for Angela, it's amateur dramatics that floats her boat.
0:05:03 > 0:05:06She's hoping that her love of the stage can continue
0:05:06 > 0:05:09as she's in no hurry to give up treading the boards.
0:05:09 > 0:05:12I started off at my little church.
0:05:12 > 0:05:17I was playing the Virgin Mary when I was about 11 years old.
0:05:17 > 0:05:20I've just had a ball. I've loved it.
0:05:20 > 0:05:23And now I'm doing a bit of directing, now I'm an older lady,
0:05:23 > 0:05:26because you don't get the parts when you're an older lady.
0:05:26 > 0:05:30Having decided to make the biggest move of their lives to Cornwall,
0:05:30 > 0:05:33they've got a good budget set aside to make it happen.
0:05:33 > 0:05:38Our budget for the property will be looking in the region of 370,000.
0:05:38 > 0:05:43We could go a little bit further than that if we found something really special.
0:05:50 > 0:05:52Chris and Angela would like us to focus our search
0:05:52 > 0:05:55in the villages near to the cathedral city of Truro.
0:05:55 > 0:05:57I caught up with them in the beautiful Cornish countryside
0:05:57 > 0:06:00to find out what our very colourful couple are after.
0:06:03 > 0:06:07- Hey, how are you? Nice to see you.- Hello!- Welcome to Cornwall.
0:06:07 > 0:06:11OK, let's talk about what you are after, then. Ideal house?
0:06:11 > 0:06:14- Well...- Well... - That's a good start!
0:06:14 > 0:06:19We're not that bothered, really, about the type of house.
0:06:19 > 0:06:24- OK.- It can be anything from a cottage or a barn or anything.
0:06:24 > 0:06:27- We'd like a dining kitchen.- OK.
0:06:27 > 0:06:32A decent sitting room with the possibility to have a wood-burning stove.
0:06:32 > 0:06:34You've got to around here, haven't you?
0:06:34 > 0:06:39- I suppose so.- That's necessary. - Three bedrooms, at least. Garden. - Right.
0:06:39 > 0:06:42This list is getting longer and longer.
0:06:42 > 0:06:46Yes, I know but most of all, a view. We've got to have views.
0:06:46 > 0:06:50- And who's the boss of this relationship?- Oh, come on!
0:06:50 > 0:06:53I think we're going to have a bit of trouble here, aren't we?
0:06:53 > 0:06:57- No, not all, actually. - OK.- 46 years. I'm used to it.
0:06:57 > 0:06:59Yeah, I'm not!
0:06:59 > 0:07:02I've got three lovely properties to show you.
0:07:02 > 0:07:06- Well, I think they're lovely, anyway. Shall we get going?- Oh, yes. - Let's hit the road.- Fab. Thank you.
0:07:06 > 0:07:09Chris and Angela have a budget of £370,000
0:07:09 > 0:07:13to find an idyllic Cornish retreat and they'd like...
0:07:16 > 0:07:20..a garden big enough for flower beds and a vegetable patch...
0:07:26 > 0:07:28We found three fantastic properties for our buyers to view.
0:07:28 > 0:07:31Before I reveal the price of each, I'll be asking them
0:07:31 > 0:07:33to take a guess at it first.
0:07:33 > 0:07:36The final choice is our mystery house, a property they may
0:07:36 > 0:07:40not have looked at on paper, but which might just win their hearts.
0:07:47 > 0:07:50We're starting our journey in the village of Carnon Downs,
0:07:50 > 0:07:53which is around 3 miles south-west of Truro.
0:07:53 > 0:07:56This rural location may be small, but it has everything
0:07:56 > 0:08:00our buyers will need, right on their doorstep, including a post office,
0:08:00 > 0:08:03a shop, a chapel, village hall
0:08:03 > 0:08:06and regular bus connections to Truro.
0:08:06 > 0:08:09Our first house is a charming detached cottage,
0:08:09 > 0:08:12situated at the top of a long, sweeping driveway.
0:08:12 > 0:08:17- Oh, yes.- That's pretty. - Isn't it just?- Isn't it?
0:08:17 > 0:08:22It was originally a miner's cottage. It dates back to 1850.
0:08:22 > 0:08:23It was a one-up one-down
0:08:23 > 0:08:28and then this L-shaped extension was put on about 15 years ago.
0:08:28 > 0:08:33- Oh, that's really pretty. - You like it?- Yes.- Yes, I do. It looks very sweet.
0:08:33 > 0:08:36- What about you, Chris? - I'm just looking at it...
0:08:36 > 0:08:39Doesn't matter what do you think, she's the boss anyway.
0:08:39 > 0:08:41As long as you're saying on the right things..
0:08:41 > 0:08:42I'm easily pleased.
0:08:42 > 0:08:46I like you so much. I feel like swapping places. Come on.
0:08:46 > 0:08:48- Go on then, yeah. - We'll go and do a tour.
0:08:48 > 0:08:52- Anyway, from outside, you like it? - Yes, it's really nice.
0:08:52 > 0:08:55- Can we have a look?- Yes, of course. That's why we're here! Come on.
0:08:57 > 0:09:00Chris and Angela can't wait to see more of this property.
0:09:00 > 0:09:04Let's hope it lives up to their expectations when we get inside.
0:09:04 > 0:09:09- So, are you ready for this? Come on in.- Oh!- Don't be shy.
0:09:09 > 0:09:14- What do you think?- A think it's very sweet. It's lovely.- It is, isn't it?
0:09:14 > 0:09:17- You wanted a kitchen breakfast room. - Eating kitchen, yes.
0:09:17 > 0:09:20- You've got quite a big table there. - Yes, it's not bad at all.
0:09:20 > 0:09:25- Is that a range I see?- Yes. - Oil fired, isn't it?
0:09:25 > 0:09:30- I quite like this. - Oh, that's very...- A larder cupboard.- Neat, isn't it?
0:09:30 > 0:09:33- Very good.- There are lots of little neat touches.
0:09:33 > 0:09:34Not bad at all.
0:09:34 > 0:09:39You've also got a massive utility room through there which you can explore later.
0:09:39 > 0:09:43- Really, really good size. - Uh-huh.- Yes, I like it.- Good.
0:09:43 > 0:09:46- Shall we have a look at the living room?- Oh, yes please. - Follow me.
0:09:50 > 0:09:55- This is the living room. - Oh, yes. I like that.
0:09:55 > 0:09:58- That's a wood burner and a half, isn't it?- That's terrific.
0:09:58 > 0:10:01That's something we've discussed before. That's what we wanted.
0:10:01 > 0:10:04Also, off this living space, you've got two bedrooms.
0:10:04 > 0:10:07Oh, that's ideal.
0:10:07 > 0:10:09And also, running the whole length of the living room
0:10:09 > 0:10:11is a conservatory, as well.
0:10:11 > 0:10:15- Ah, how nice.- With that south-facing garden.- Oh, yeah.
0:10:15 > 0:10:17But this is very pretty.
0:10:17 > 0:10:20- OK, let's head upstairs. I'll lead the way.- Thank you.
0:10:21 > 0:10:24This floor also has a good-size family bathroom,
0:10:24 > 0:10:27but we'll continue our tour in the main bedroom.
0:10:29 > 0:10:31Come on through to the master.
0:10:33 > 0:10:34Ah.
0:10:36 > 0:10:39Oh, I haven't seen that face so far. What does that face say?
0:10:39 > 0:10:42- It's a bit small.- OK.- A bit small. It's very pretty.
0:10:42 > 0:10:44And there is some cupboarding.
0:10:44 > 0:10:47- Yeah, there's lots of storage. All this slides back.- Oh, yes.
0:10:47 > 0:10:50That's not so bad, really.
0:10:50 > 0:10:53See, that's what's made the room small, isn't it?
0:10:53 > 0:10:57I guess so. Yes, it's just... But, it's going to be, isn't it?
0:10:57 > 0:11:00- It's a cottage.- I think it's very nice.- It's very pretty.
0:11:00 > 0:11:04The whole thing, they've done it very prettily, I think.
0:11:04 > 0:11:07Well, the mood has taken a bit of a dip, which is a real shame.
0:11:07 > 0:11:10On this floor, there's one more bedroom,
0:11:10 > 0:11:12which is a charming single with a lovely ornate window
0:11:12 > 0:11:16overlooking the garden, which is what we're going to see next.
0:11:18 > 0:11:21- Nice garden, isn't it?- It's beautiful, really is.- It's lovely.
0:11:21 > 0:11:24You've got the greenhouse there, ready to go.
0:11:24 > 0:11:27And plenty of space to grow your veg, as well. It's manageable.
0:11:27 > 0:11:30- Yeah, it is.- It is.- It's not too big, but it's plenty big enough.
0:11:30 > 0:11:33And a nice cobbled area where you can have your seating.
0:11:33 > 0:11:37- Nice sitting area, eating area. Alfresco.- Yes.
0:11:37 > 0:11:41This part of it's tremendous, there's even an outdoor barbecue.
0:11:41 > 0:11:44And you've got a little room there, with a Saniflo loo as well.
0:11:44 > 0:11:46So, an office in there, if you wanted.
0:11:46 > 0:11:50- No, an outside loo, huh?- Yeah.
0:11:50 > 0:11:52So, what do you think?
0:11:52 > 0:11:57It's very pretty and it's got a lot going for it, but I'm not too sure.
0:11:57 > 0:11:59- OK.- Love the garden, got to say,
0:11:59 > 0:12:03this, actually, is exactly what I would want.
0:12:03 > 0:12:07- OK, wow, that's great. Shall we talk money?- Ooh.- Ooh.
0:12:07 > 0:12:10- This will be interesting, won't it?- Yeah, it will.
0:12:10 > 0:12:13- You've got £370,000 to play around with, yeah?- Mm-hm.
0:12:13 > 0:12:18- So what do you reckon this is on the market for?- I'd say 350.- 350, OK.
0:12:18 > 0:12:22I would think more, I'd think maybe 365.
0:12:22 > 0:12:26£365,000, which would only give you £5,000 to play around with,
0:12:26 > 0:12:27- wouldn't it?- it would, yeah.
0:12:27 > 0:12:32It's currently on the market for £325,000.
0:12:32 > 0:12:38- Well. That's more interesting. - Isn't it? So, you know.
0:12:38 > 0:12:41- At least we'd have something to spend.- A lot to spend.- Uh-huh.
0:12:41 > 0:12:45Well, in that case... We'll think about it.
0:12:45 > 0:12:47You need to go and have a look upstairs again, don't you?
0:12:47 > 0:12:49- We do.- I think so.- Yeah.
0:12:49 > 0:12:52Listen, these are big decisions, so I think you should go back upstairs,
0:12:52 > 0:12:55have a good look around and I'll meet you outside.
0:12:55 > 0:12:57- I'll see you in a bit. - Right, cheers.
0:12:59 > 0:13:03This old miner's cottage is on the market for £325,000,
0:13:03 > 0:13:06well under Chris and Angela's top budget.
0:13:06 > 0:13:09All in all, it has a lovely kitchen/diner,
0:13:09 > 0:13:11a good sized utility room,
0:13:11 > 0:13:15four bedrooms, a bright conservatory,
0:13:15 > 0:13:16and a perfect-sized garden.
0:13:18 > 0:13:23- This is the other bedroom onto the main one.- The second one, yeah.
0:13:23 > 0:13:26There again, it is rather small, but...
0:13:26 > 0:13:29If we were to take that wall out
0:13:29 > 0:13:32we could put an en suite at this end.
0:13:32 > 0:13:34Then we'd have a big bedroom.
0:13:34 > 0:13:38The first house is interesting and very pretty.
0:13:38 > 0:13:44I like the downstairs, I'm finding the upstairs a little small.
0:13:45 > 0:13:47This first house has been interesting
0:13:47 > 0:13:50because it is exactly what we expected from a cottage.
0:13:50 > 0:13:52We've always had a slight reservation
0:13:52 > 0:13:54about the size of the rooms.
0:13:54 > 0:13:57However, I think there is a possible to correct that.
0:13:57 > 0:13:58With money.
0:13:59 > 0:14:03- Ah, hatched a few plans?- Mmm.
0:14:05 > 0:14:08Yeah, I think it needs a bit of thinking about.
0:14:08 > 0:14:10OK, you've got plenty of time, I'll do the driving,
0:14:10 > 0:14:12- you two can think in the back. - OK.- OK.
0:14:25 > 0:14:27Cornwall is reputed to be one of the warmest
0:14:27 > 0:14:30and sunniest counties in the UK.
0:14:30 > 0:14:33The balmy weather not only makes it an appealing option for a holiday,
0:14:33 > 0:14:37it's also created an ideal climate for a number of botanical gardens.
0:14:37 > 0:14:42One such fine example is the Lost Gardens of Heligan.
0:14:42 > 0:14:45These gardens were hidden from sight for nearly 70 years.
0:14:45 > 0:14:49But a chance discovery in 1990 has allowed then to be restored
0:14:49 > 0:14:50to their former glory.
0:14:50 > 0:14:53Earlier in the week, we arranged for our keen gardeners,
0:14:53 > 0:14:56Chris and Angela, to meet Mike Friend, the curator,
0:14:56 > 0:14:58to see some of the horticultural highlights.
0:15:00 > 0:15:03How did they manage to lose a garden of this size?
0:15:03 > 0:15:08Well, it basically comes down to the fact that, back in its heyday,
0:15:08 > 0:15:12the garden staff, most of them went off to fight in the Great War,
0:15:12 > 0:15:16in the First World War, and, tragically, didn't come back.
0:15:16 > 0:15:18There were many decades of neglect,
0:15:18 > 0:15:21but in 1990, a new generation of gardeners on the estate
0:15:21 > 0:15:25set about bringing these once glorious gardens back to life.
0:15:25 > 0:15:27With over 200,000 visitors a year,
0:15:27 > 0:15:31it's now one of the most popular private gardens in the country.
0:15:31 > 0:15:32And it's constantly evolving.
0:15:32 > 0:15:35Chris and Angela are off to see the productive gardens,
0:15:35 > 0:15:38an area dedicated to fruit and vegetable cultivation,
0:15:38 > 0:15:41which provides seasonal produce throughout the year.
0:15:41 > 0:15:45We grow all sorts, the onion crops, potatoes,
0:15:45 > 0:15:48the archway there is the apples, apple arch.
0:15:48 > 0:15:51- Oh, lovely. - Which are all old varieties.
0:15:51 > 0:15:55The produce that we grow here are pre-1910 varieties.
0:15:55 > 0:15:58We try to keep that, so we stick to that kind of Victorian era.
0:15:58 > 0:16:00We've actually got some seeds that need sowing.
0:16:00 > 0:16:03We've got some climbing French beans that we need to do.
0:16:03 > 0:16:05- So if you'd like to follow me. - Can we have a go?
0:16:05 > 0:16:10- Get you doing a practical. - Oh, right.- OK. Thank you.
0:16:10 > 0:16:13For the Victorians, gardens were a real status symbol,
0:16:13 > 0:16:15allowing them to show off their wealth
0:16:15 > 0:16:16with opulent planting schemes.
0:16:18 > 0:16:19What are these, then?
0:16:19 > 0:16:24- These are two-coloured cocoa climbing French beans.- Wow.
0:16:24 > 0:16:27What I want you guys to do is, very simple, all you do,
0:16:27 > 0:16:30is just fill the pot.
0:16:30 > 0:16:34Get the tamper, tamp it down so it's nice and level.
0:16:34 > 0:16:36With your finger, just up to the top of your fingernail,
0:16:36 > 0:16:38put two holes in.
0:16:38 > 0:16:41- Two? OK.- One bean in there, one bean in there.
0:16:43 > 0:16:44Great.
0:16:44 > 0:16:48OK, so what we do just to end it, is we put a label in one of the pots.
0:16:48 > 0:16:52So all you need to write is "Two-coloured cocoa".
0:16:53 > 0:16:55Job done.
0:16:56 > 0:16:59In one part of the garden, the temperature is five degrees warmer
0:16:59 > 0:17:02than in other areas, which means more topical crops can be grown,
0:17:02 > 0:17:08including bamboos, giant rhubarb, bananas, and incredible palm trees.
0:17:08 > 0:17:09Welcome to the jungle.
0:17:09 > 0:17:12Wow, yeah, I can see why they call it a jungle.
0:17:12 > 0:17:15- It definitely has a jungle feel. - Yeah.
0:17:15 > 0:17:20Could you actually grow some of this stuff in a domestic garden?
0:17:20 > 0:17:24Most of the plants that are here will grow in your garden.
0:17:24 > 0:17:28The further north you go, the harder it will be for some of them to grow,
0:17:28 > 0:17:30but quite a few of the plants we have here are tough.
0:17:30 > 0:17:32So when we move down here,
0:17:32 > 0:17:36we'll be able to grow some of what you have here quite successfully.
0:17:36 > 0:17:40- Yeah, yeah. Absolutely. - Excellent. I just love it.
0:17:40 > 0:17:42That's the end of the tour for Chris and Angela.
0:17:42 > 0:17:45Now they know how to cultivate a perfect garden
0:17:45 > 0:17:49for Cornwall's climate, we'd better find them a house to go with it.
0:17:54 > 0:17:56For our second house, we're heading towards Porkellis,
0:17:56 > 0:17:59a rural village some 14 miles from Truro.
0:17:59 > 0:18:02And, in true British style, the weather is changeable.
0:18:02 > 0:18:04So, from basking in glorious sunshine,
0:18:04 > 0:18:09we're now sheltering from the rain. But that hasn't put off our buyers.
0:18:09 > 0:18:11- It's nice, though, isn't it? - Yeah, it is.
0:18:11 > 0:18:14Porkellis Moor, it was densely populated during the Bronze Age,
0:18:14 > 0:18:16and again in the 18th and 19th century, as well.
0:18:16 > 0:18:19And that's all down to the mines,
0:18:19 > 0:18:24especially the Bassett and Grylls Mine. Very prolific.
0:18:24 > 0:18:27In its heyday, this place would have had a cinema, a pub,
0:18:27 > 0:18:30- a coach maker... - In the bronze age?
0:18:30 > 0:18:32No, not in the Bronze Age, in the 18th and 19th century,
0:18:32 > 0:18:35especially in the 19th century, and then, of course,
0:18:35 > 0:18:37the mines went and with it the cinema, the coach maker...
0:18:37 > 0:18:39But the good news is, it's still got the pub,
0:18:39 > 0:18:43which is good news. Still got a school and a lovely church, as well.
0:18:43 > 0:18:46But it's also the location of the second property,
0:18:46 > 0:18:48which could be your new house.
0:18:48 > 0:18:50- Ooh.- Ooh.- That sounds interesting. - Yes.
0:18:50 > 0:18:53You'll never, ever see this pub again, of course, will you, Chris?
0:18:53 > 0:18:55ANGELA LAUGHS
0:18:55 > 0:18:56- It's marginal, marginal.- Come on,
0:18:56 > 0:18:59let's go and have a look at the house.
0:18:59 > 0:19:03Our second property is a detached cottage that was recently extended
0:19:03 > 0:19:06but retains a lot of its original character.
0:19:06 > 0:19:12- Come on, don't be shy. - Wow, look at that.- Oh, yes!
0:19:12 > 0:19:15- It's rather lovely, isn't it? - That's smashing, yes.
0:19:15 > 0:19:17Oh, yes, that's very attractive.
0:19:17 > 0:19:20- You were nearly speechless for a second, then.- Nearly.
0:19:20 > 0:19:23I don't do speechless.
0:19:23 > 0:19:26- Not quite. You were close. - You almost did.- Almost, yeah.
0:19:26 > 0:19:29- Oh, that is good, that's lovely. - It's floating your boat, is it?- Yes.
0:19:29 > 0:19:31Yes, love it.
0:19:31 > 0:19:34What we've got here is two cottages that were around in the 1700s
0:19:34 > 0:19:37knocked into one. Two years ago, they put this extension on,
0:19:37 > 0:19:39which we'll talk about a bit later.
0:19:39 > 0:19:41But you see the stone, he's hand-picked all those stones
0:19:41 > 0:19:44from the quarry so they match the ones on the original 1700s property.
0:19:44 > 0:19:46Really? That's terrific.
0:19:46 > 0:19:50- That's lovely.- So shall we go in? - Oh, yes.- Come on, let's go.
0:19:50 > 0:19:53Well, there are no stony faces from Chris and Angela,
0:19:53 > 0:19:57so here's hoping they like this house as we step inside.
0:19:57 > 0:20:00Feel like I'm back in the cathedral, coming through this door.
0:20:00 > 0:20:02Come on in.
0:20:02 > 0:20:04- Oh...- Fantastic.
0:20:04 > 0:20:07Stereo inglenooks, you've got one there and you've got one here.
0:20:07 > 0:20:09Cos it would have been two cottages, wouldn't it?
0:20:09 > 0:20:14- Amazing, yes, of course.- And this is a 1950s reconditioned range.
0:20:14 > 0:20:17I love it. This is so quaint.
0:20:17 > 0:20:21- Good, good.- Really. - Right, onwards and hopefully upward.
0:20:21 > 0:20:22- Oh, yes.- Good.
0:20:22 > 0:20:26Great reactions, but can we keep up the momentum?
0:20:26 > 0:20:28Gosh. It's a lovely kitchen.
0:20:28 > 0:20:32It's a small-ish kitchen, but it's very nice.
0:20:32 > 0:20:35- You've got to boot room behind you. - Oh, yes.
0:20:35 > 0:20:38- It's a boot room with a view. - That's great.
0:20:38 > 0:20:41- And it's very nicely done. - It's immaculate, isn't it?
0:20:41 > 0:20:44Very nice. It looks nearly brand-new, actually.
0:20:44 > 0:20:48- With the exposed stone, as well, all around you.- It's fab.
0:20:48 > 0:20:49OK, let's go upstairs.
0:20:50 > 0:20:53'Our buyers seem to have really warm feelings about this property.
0:20:53 > 0:20:55'Time now to check out the first floor.'
0:20:58 > 0:21:00So, this part of the house, you've got a good-sized bedroom, there.
0:21:00 > 0:21:04- Uh-huh.- Lovely little office space here.- That's super.
0:21:05 > 0:21:08- Good-sized family bathroom. - Nice bathroom.- And another room here.
0:21:10 > 0:21:15- Again, the current owner is doing a bit of work.- Yes. I see.
0:21:15 > 0:21:19- Lovely window though, isn't it? - It is.- And that stone again.- I know.
0:21:19 > 0:21:23- Masses of it. Good Lord. - What do you think of this room?
0:21:23 > 0:21:25- It's big enough, isn't it?- It is.
0:21:25 > 0:21:29And it's just so quirky, it's so interesting.
0:21:29 > 0:21:33You've also got an en suite.
0:21:33 > 0:21:34BOTH: Oh!
0:21:34 > 0:21:37- That's good.- You don't expect it to be there, really, do you?
0:21:37 > 0:21:42- No, you don't. That's ever so good. - So, could you see yourselves here?
0:21:43 > 0:21:47- It's super, yeah, I love it.- I could.
0:21:47 > 0:21:51- Where are we going to put all your clothes?- We'll think about that.
0:21:53 > 0:21:55Course, you could just keep all your clothes in here
0:21:55 > 0:21:58and you'd be in the master bedroom.
0:21:59 > 0:22:02- This isn't, then? - It isn't the master bedroom.
0:22:02 > 0:22:05If it's a master bedroom, you're after, come check this out.
0:22:05 > 0:22:08'That fooled them. Well, what have we got in store?'
0:22:09 > 0:22:15- This is what you call a master bedroom.- Oh!- Goodness me.
0:22:15 > 0:22:18- Oh, that's gorgeous! - It is, isn't it? Wow.
0:22:18 > 0:22:22Love it. It's fabulous.
0:22:22 > 0:22:25- Isn't it just? Just great, isn't it? - Yes! It's fabulous!
0:22:25 > 0:22:28Imagine yourself sitting in those seats,
0:22:28 > 0:22:30- looking out at your gorgeous view. - Yes, I'm imagining.
0:22:30 > 0:22:34- This is really impressive, isn't it? - It's lovely.- It's amazing, yeah.
0:22:34 > 0:22:38And the vaulted ceiling... It's gorgeous.
0:22:38 > 0:22:41- And there's one other thing, as well.- What?
0:22:43 > 0:22:46Your en suite, as well. Very modern.
0:22:46 > 0:22:49Oh, yes! That's marvellous.
0:22:51 > 0:22:55- Fabulous.- That's fantastic.
0:22:55 > 0:22:59- Shall be pop out to the garden?- Yes. - Talk money. Come on.
0:22:59 > 0:23:02Chris and Angela are already dreaming about moving in,
0:23:02 > 0:23:04but before I bring them back down to earth with the price,
0:23:04 > 0:23:06let's take a look at the garden,
0:23:06 > 0:23:08which has the most spectacular views.
0:23:10 > 0:23:11Come on out.
0:23:11 > 0:23:16This gives you a good view of the house
0:23:16 > 0:23:20- and the scenery, as well.- Ah.
0:23:20 > 0:23:23- Unspoiled, beautiful.- It is, it is.
0:23:23 > 0:23:26You've also got a bit of garden the other side of the property, as well.
0:23:26 > 0:23:27- Uh-huh.- And, actually,
0:23:27 > 0:23:30cellar space running underneath the whole part of the extension.
0:23:30 > 0:23:32That's right, yes, I noticed that.
0:23:32 > 0:23:34I knew, because there's a door at the back into it.
0:23:34 > 0:23:37- There is, yeah. - So there's cellar space, as well?
0:23:37 > 0:23:40- Well done, super-sleuth.- Yes, there you go.- Lots of storage.- Yes.
0:23:40 > 0:23:45- Right, let's talk money, shall we? - Oh. OK.- Who's going first this time?
0:23:45 > 0:23:49- Angela.- Oh, OK.- Oh...- Such a coward.
0:23:49 > 0:23:51- Dead right.- Yeah.
0:23:54 > 0:23:58- 375.- 375,000. OK.
0:23:59 > 0:24:01I'd be somewhere near that,
0:24:01 > 0:24:05but I'm trying to think of reasons to come in less.
0:24:05 > 0:24:09And I can't think of one, so I'll say 375, as well, I'm afraid.
0:24:09 > 0:24:11375,000, as well. You're both close.
0:24:11 > 0:24:14- It's on the market for £380,000. - Uh-huh.
0:24:14 > 0:24:19- But the owners are open to offers. - Right.
0:24:19 > 0:24:21So it depends how much you like it.
0:24:22 > 0:24:24Well, that we'll have to talk about.
0:24:25 > 0:24:28Listen, I think the rain's on its way, so I think you should
0:24:28 > 0:24:31get yourselves indoors, have another look around. Go on, take your time.
0:24:31 > 0:24:34- OK, thank you.- I don't mind getting wet.- You'll dry.
0:24:34 > 0:24:36She doesn't mean it.
0:24:38 > 0:24:40Although it's over budget at £380,000,
0:24:40 > 0:24:44this beautiful cottage could be in reach with a sensible offer.
0:24:44 > 0:24:48It gives them a lovely, country kitchen, a quirky living room
0:24:48 > 0:24:53with exposed stone and inglenook fireplace, four bedrooms, including
0:24:53 > 0:24:57a sensational master bedroom with en suite, and great views.
0:24:57 > 0:25:00- These are a smashing idea, aren't they?- The window seats?
0:25:00 > 0:25:02These little window seats, yeah.
0:25:02 > 0:25:05I mean, the whole thing's been done very, very well.
0:25:05 > 0:25:07So clever.
0:25:07 > 0:25:09The main living room was wonderful,
0:25:09 > 0:25:11it had everything that my wife's ever wanted.
0:25:11 > 0:25:15It had a multi-fuel burner in one end, and a range in the other.
0:25:15 > 0:25:19And it's just a very intriguing, original space.
0:25:19 > 0:25:22I've never quite seen anything the same before.
0:25:22 > 0:25:26It's so interesting and so cleverly done,
0:25:26 > 0:25:29if we think longer and harder about it,
0:25:29 > 0:25:34there are things that aren't absolutely perfect, what is?
0:25:34 > 0:25:36But it's lovely.
0:25:38 > 0:25:42- For your information, it didn't rain.- There you go.- Shucks.
0:25:42 > 0:25:44Have to try harder next time.
0:25:44 > 0:25:46Yes, I'll pray. My prayers weren't answered.
0:25:46 > 0:25:47You were in there long enough.
0:25:47 > 0:25:49And you're smiling, which is a good thing.
0:25:49 > 0:25:52You've seen two, well, quite different properties
0:25:52 > 0:25:54so let's not even discuss them any more, OK?
0:25:54 > 0:25:57We'll reconvene in the morning and I'll drive you back, how's that?
0:25:57 > 0:25:58- Smashing.- Yes.- Come on.
0:26:09 > 0:26:12As the evening draws to a close over Cornwall,
0:26:12 > 0:26:16our buyers take a moment to mull over the busy day of house-hunting.
0:26:22 > 0:26:27Scuba-diving enthusiast, Chris, and his leading lady wife, Angela,
0:26:27 > 0:26:29are taking the property plunge with
0:26:29 > 0:26:31a move from Altrincham in Cheshire to Cornwall.
0:26:31 > 0:26:35So far, they thought our first property was blooming marvellous
0:26:35 > 0:26:38with its perfect-sized garden, but then they were completely captivated
0:26:38 > 0:26:42by the rustic charm of our second house with its breathtaking views.
0:26:42 > 0:26:45Coming up, will the mystery house fill them with joy
0:26:45 > 0:26:47or leave them feeling empty?
0:26:47 > 0:26:51- Nobody's lived in it? - Nobody's lived in it.- Oo-ooh.
0:26:51 > 0:26:54And I come face-to-face with some infamous Cornish claws.
0:26:54 > 0:26:58- Have you ever been got by one of those pinchers?- No, not recently.
0:27:01 > 0:27:04It's day two in our quest to find the lovely Christopher and Angela
0:27:04 > 0:27:06their dream property here in Cornwall.
0:27:06 > 0:27:09It's going rather well, they seemed to like aspects
0:27:09 > 0:27:11of both properties yesterday, especially the second house.
0:27:11 > 0:27:14Mind you, who wouldn't want to wake up in that master bedroom?
0:27:14 > 0:27:16Absolutely divine.
0:27:16 > 0:27:18They're after lots of space, especially in the kitchen area,
0:27:18 > 0:27:21and I have to be honest, you're not going to get that
0:27:21 > 0:27:23in a Cornish cottage, but you get it in a new-build.
0:27:23 > 0:27:25Except they said they didn't like new-builds.
0:27:25 > 0:27:27They didn't mean that, did they?
0:27:27 > 0:27:29It's time to find out with the mystery property.
0:27:30 > 0:27:33'As we head towards the mystery house,
0:27:33 > 0:27:36'I want to see how our buyers are feeling about their search.'
0:27:36 > 0:27:38What are your thoughts on the two properties?
0:27:38 > 0:27:40I've sort of forgotten the first one
0:27:40 > 0:27:41because my mind is full of the second one.
0:27:41 > 0:27:44- Right.- And parts of it were absolutely fabulous.
0:27:44 > 0:27:46So, mystery property, what would you like it to be?
0:27:46 > 0:27:49We'd like it to look nice outside, but it's more what
0:27:49 > 0:27:51it's like inside, cos we're going to be living inside it.
0:27:51 > 0:27:55Bring on the small, dark Cornish cottage
0:27:55 > 0:27:57with no utility room or view, yeah?
0:27:57 > 0:28:01- Yeah, that'll do, no problem. - No, it won't do.- Yeah, right.
0:28:01 > 0:28:04For the mystery property, we're taking Chris and Angela
0:28:04 > 0:28:06right to the edge of their search area,
0:28:06 > 0:28:10to the outskirts of Helston, which is about 18 miles from Truro.
0:28:10 > 0:28:12This bustling old market town lies at the edge
0:28:12 > 0:28:15of The Lizard Peninsula and was inhabited
0:28:15 > 0:28:17in the sixth century by the Saxons.
0:28:17 > 0:28:21The patron saint of Helston, and indeed, Cornwall, is St Michael,
0:28:21 > 0:28:24and there's a church here in his honour
0:28:24 > 0:28:26that dominates the town's skyline.
0:28:26 > 0:28:29Our mystery house is a bit of a gamble - a brand-new build.
0:28:29 > 0:28:31Perhaps not the obvious choice for a couple
0:28:31 > 0:28:34who profess not to be keen on modern houses.
0:28:34 > 0:28:37However, its location is perfect for the community they're after
0:28:37 > 0:28:40and their much sought-after country views.
0:28:43 > 0:28:45So, you've got your bearings, I take it.
0:28:45 > 0:28:48- Just up the lane we've walked down, is Helston.- Uh-huh.
0:28:48 > 0:28:50So that's got your supermarket, your cinema, your pub,

0:29:19 > 0:29:21as the Beverly Hills of Helston.
0:29:21 > 0:29:23- You're kidding?- So I thought, maybe you'd like that.

0:29:33 > 0:29:36- She has, yes.- Shall we go in? - Oh, yes.- Come on, let's go.

0:29:41 > 0:29:43'Let's hope the inside dazzles them, too.'

0:30:33 > 0:30:35- I'd buy that.- Excellent.
0:30:35 > 0:30:39And you're probably noticing, there's nowhere to put your plugs.
0:30:39 > 0:30:41- And this is for your plugs. - So clever.
0:30:43 > 0:30:46Another little...skirting light.
0:30:46 > 0:30:49- Why don't we show you the living room?- OK.
0:30:53 > 0:30:58- You've got your wood burner. - I know!- Yes.- And look at the view.
0:30:58 > 0:30:59- Fantastic.- That's beautiful.
0:30:59 > 0:31:03- Yeah, our furniture would fit in here no problem.- It would?
0:31:03 > 0:31:05We wouldn't have to throw anything away.
0:31:05 > 0:31:08- It's super.- It's spot on. - You've seen downstairs.
0:31:08 > 0:31:10- Shall we go upstairs?- Yes, please. - That would be good.
0:31:10 > 0:31:13- Let me dive through you. - Fantastic. Thank you.
0:31:13 > 0:31:17Also on this floor is a utility room and cloakroom.
0:31:17 > 0:31:20But let's see what they make of the first floor.
0:31:20 > 0:31:22Up here, there are three double bedrooms
0:31:22 > 0:31:27and a fabulous bathroom with a freestanding bath, where they
0:31:27 > 0:31:30can enjoy a long, hot soak looking out over the Cornish countryside.
0:31:30 > 0:31:32'It's time to see their room.'
0:31:32 > 0:31:34- So this is the master bedroom.- Oh...
0:31:36 > 0:31:39- Absolutely lovely size, isn't it?- It is, it's fine.
0:31:39 > 0:31:43- I love the roof like that, as well. - I like the roof.- Fantastic.
0:31:43 > 0:31:45I mean, it's fabulous.
0:31:45 > 0:31:48And look at that, views again.
0:31:48 > 0:31:51Course, there's another room through there, what would you like it to be?
0:31:53 > 0:31:57I bet it's an en suite, but I'd like it to be a dressing room.
0:31:57 > 0:32:01- It's an en suite, but it's a really impressive en suite.- Is it?- Yeah.
0:32:08 > 0:32:10It's a pretty impressive en suite, isn't it?
0:32:10 > 0:32:13- I love this bath with the waterfall tap.- It's beautiful.
0:32:13 > 0:32:16- Absolutely amazing. Brilliant.- Beautiful.
0:32:19 > 0:32:22- Oh, it's fab.- It is. - It's a good en suite, isn't it?
0:32:22 > 0:32:26It is, and two smashing Velux, lovely and light again.
0:32:26 > 0:32:30- It's really worked well that, hasn't it?- It's absolutely beautiful.
0:32:30 > 0:32:34- Good, well, I think we should head outside.- OK.- We can talk money.
0:32:34 > 0:32:36- Oh, after you.- Thank you.
0:32:39 > 0:32:41Within the grounds of this property, there's a garage,
0:32:41 > 0:32:45and plenty of space for parking, which I know was important to Chris.
0:32:45 > 0:32:48But I'm not sure how they're going to react to the size of the garden.
0:32:48 > 0:32:52- Well, dare I say it, it's not the biggest plot of land.- No.- No.
0:32:52 > 0:32:53It's manageable.
0:32:53 > 0:32:57- Very much so.- Too small for you? - What do you think?
0:33:00 > 0:33:05No, it's fine. It needs... We'd have to think about it.
0:33:05 > 0:33:07We could put a trellis along there
0:33:07 > 0:33:09and grow fruit, or whatever, up there.
0:33:09 > 0:33:13- Maybe veg at the end.- I don't think veg, too small for veg.
0:33:13 > 0:33:14No, maybe not.
0:33:14 > 0:33:17And you are very much part of the community here,
0:33:17 > 0:33:20you are surrounded by houses, but you wanted that, didn't you, really?
0:33:20 > 0:33:25Sort of. Separate enough. But we didn't want to be too out of the way.
0:33:25 > 0:33:30- OK, well, can you afford it? - I don't know.- Shall we find out?- Mmm.
0:33:30 > 0:33:33- What do you reckon it's on the market for?- Oi, oi, oi.
0:33:33 > 0:33:36- Go on, Chris, you go first. - I mean, I would say...
0:33:38 > 0:33:42- ..365.- OK. £365,000.
0:33:45 > 0:33:51- Well, did you say Beverly Hills? - Beverly Hills of the area. Yeah.
0:33:51 > 0:33:53- 385?- £385,000.
0:33:54 > 0:33:58It's currently on the market for £365,000.
0:33:58 > 0:34:01- What do you reckon? It's within budget.- Yes, it is.
0:34:01 > 0:34:04I think it needs very serious thinking about, actually,
0:34:04 > 0:34:07because it's got a lot positive as well as a few negatives.
0:34:07 > 0:34:11- It's got a lot going for it.- OK. Well, go back in, have a look round.
0:34:11 > 0:34:15- Thank you.- Imagine yourself in that kitchen.- Yes.
0:34:15 > 0:34:17No, she'll imagine me in the kitchen, actually.
0:34:17 > 0:34:19- Go on, off you go.- OK.
0:34:24 > 0:34:28This ultra-modern house is priced at £365,000,
0:34:28 > 0:34:30so it's within budget.
0:34:30 > 0:34:33I think it's really caught the imagination of Chris and Angela.
0:34:33 > 0:34:37It has a fabulous fitted kitchen with breakfast bar,
0:34:37 > 0:34:40a master bedroom with stunning en suite, it's on the edge
0:34:40 > 0:34:44of a village, and it has lovely views of the surrounding hills.
0:34:44 > 0:34:47- It's very nice.- It is, isn't it? Like the lighting.
0:34:49 > 0:34:52- That's a fabulous view. - It is, isn't it?
0:34:52 > 0:34:56The mystery house is very different, but it's lovely.
0:34:56 > 0:35:02I love the fact that it's so simple and clean lines.
0:35:02 > 0:35:07Everything is fitted beautifully. Obviously, the kitchen is fabulous.
0:35:07 > 0:35:10From the outside, I think it looks superb,
0:35:10 > 0:35:13a lot of thought's gone into it. The design, on its own,
0:35:13 > 0:35:16is absolutely super right the way through it.
0:35:16 > 0:35:19Underfloor heating, for a start, you know, that's very effective
0:35:19 > 0:35:23and something that's virtually maintenance-free.
0:35:23 > 0:35:25To think they weren't too keen on modern properties,
0:35:25 > 0:35:27they've been in there a while. Here they come.
0:35:31 > 0:35:34- Seen enough for now? - Yes, I think so.- OK.
0:35:34 > 0:35:37Well, three very different properties, so I think
0:35:37 > 0:35:39we should retire somewhere and have a good chat about them.
0:35:39 > 0:35:42- What a good idea.- Okey-doke. - Come on.
0:35:54 > 0:35:57All along Cornwall's coastline, the harbours and villages
0:35:57 > 0:36:01are a constant reminder of the county's strong fishing heritage.
0:36:01 > 0:36:0595% of Cornwall's shellfish catch is caught in the seas
0:36:05 > 0:36:09around North Cornwall, with harbours like Newquay playing a vital role.
0:36:09 > 0:36:11It's home to the largest shellfishing fleet on this
0:36:11 > 0:36:15stretch of coast, and is mainly made up of small boats,
0:36:15 > 0:36:17using the traditional pot-hauling method.
0:36:17 > 0:36:21Skipper, Phil Trebilcock, has fished here for over 40 years
0:36:21 > 0:36:24and has kindly agreed for me to join him on his morning trip out to sea.
0:36:24 > 0:36:26Thanks so much for taking me out today, what a day for it.
0:36:26 > 0:36:29- It is, just right.- What are we actually going to be doing today?
0:36:29 > 0:36:30We're getting 100 pots.
0:36:30 > 0:36:33and get a few spiders and a few lobsters, hopefully.
0:36:33 > 0:36:36100 pots? Whoa! So, in a typical day,
0:36:36 > 0:36:38how many spider crabs do you catch?
0:36:38 > 0:36:41Well, we have been only a bit under a kilo, but I think they come
0:36:41 > 0:36:44in an abundance now, so I think it'll be a good season.
0:36:44 > 0:36:47- And do you eat them?- Yeah, I love them.- Fantastic. Shall we go aboard?
0:36:47 > 0:36:49Yeah, let's go.
0:36:49 > 0:36:52Catching shellfish using these small-scale inshore boats
0:36:52 > 0:36:54is widely viewed as one of the most sustainable
0:36:54 > 0:36:57and environmentally friendly ways of fishing.
0:36:57 > 0:37:00The boats go out for a few hours at a time, and the seabed and
0:37:00 > 0:37:03marine life are largely undisturbed by the pots as they're hauled in.
0:37:03 > 0:37:07- How long has this pot been down for, Phil?- Three nights.
0:37:08 > 0:37:11How do you feel when you're out here doing this?
0:37:11 > 0:37:14- This is your office, look, look at that lot.- It's amazing, isn't it?
0:37:14 > 0:37:16The best of nature.
0:37:17 > 0:37:21A bad day out here is better than a good day in the office, they say.
0:37:21 > 0:37:24'The shellfisheries around Cornwall's coast are seasonal,
0:37:24 > 0:37:26'usually starting to set pots from early spring
0:37:26 > 0:37:30'until late in the autumn. This helps to protect the stocks
0:37:30 > 0:37:32'and the fishermen from the rough winter seas.'
0:37:32 > 0:37:34Anything in this one?
0:37:35 > 0:37:38- Plenty of spider crabs. There's a bitter crab here.- That's a good size.
0:37:38 > 0:37:42- But you see with that, you see how pale he's looking?- Yeah.
0:37:42 > 0:37:44He's too pale, like, he's white.
0:37:44 > 0:37:47- He hadn't long cast his shell, so there's no meat in that.- Right.
0:37:47 > 0:37:50- And if you press in the side of the shell.- Gotcha.- He's a bit soft.
0:37:50 > 0:37:52So we him let go, catch him in a months' time.
0:37:52 > 0:37:56- Have you ever been got by one of those pinchers?- No, not recently.
0:37:56 > 0:37:59- It would hurt, wouldn't it? - It would, yeah.
0:37:59 > 0:38:01Cornish crab and lobster are protected by laws
0:38:01 > 0:38:04set by the Cornwall Sea Fisheries Committee,
0:38:04 > 0:38:07making it illegal to land shellfish that are too young or too small.
0:38:07 > 0:38:11Immature shellfish are returned unharmed to the sea to grow further.
0:38:13 > 0:38:16- So we're specifically fishing for spider crabs, now, yeah?- Yeah.
0:38:16 > 0:38:20Just here on the sands, spider crabs like the sand.
0:38:20 > 0:38:25- See how many's in there, look. - Oh, my God. Loads.
0:38:25 > 0:38:27- There's a big male here, look.- OK.
0:38:28 > 0:38:31- Wow, that's massive.- Yeah.
0:38:31 > 0:38:34- See, the meat is in the claws. - Yeah. And in the body?
0:38:34 > 0:38:35Yeah, and in the body.
0:38:35 > 0:38:39People think there's no meat in the body, but it's like a honeycomb
0:38:39 > 0:38:41in there, it's all full of little holes and you pick the meat out.
0:38:41 > 0:38:45- Right.- You've got to sit down, nice bit of bread, glass of wine,
0:38:45 > 0:38:49take your time and enjoy the local produce.
0:38:49 > 0:38:51Any chance we could go into shore and have a try?
0:38:51 > 0:38:54- Going to try one, shall we?- Yeah, let's do that.- Right.- Brilliant.
0:38:54 > 0:38:56Well, I may have woken up feeling a bit crabby,
0:38:56 > 0:38:59but all that sea air has given me an appetite
0:38:59 > 0:39:01and I'm looking forward to tucking into what we've caught.
0:39:04 > 0:39:07Cheers, thanks. That was brilliant, I enjoyed it.
0:39:07 > 0:39:10This is what it's all about. So this is spider crab.
0:39:10 > 0:39:12- Yeah, all things good aren't always in heaven.- It's true.
0:39:12 > 0:39:17That is what you call heaven. That is a doorstep spider crab sandwich.
0:39:17 > 0:39:20- The crab's a lot sweeter than normal crab.- It is, it's lovely.
0:39:20 > 0:39:22You think, out of this humble creature here,
0:39:22 > 0:39:24that's the meat that comes out of it.
0:39:24 > 0:39:27Mmm. That's beautiful. Absolutely lovely.
0:39:27 > 0:39:30I've loved it. Thanks so much for giving up your time
0:39:30 > 0:39:31and taking me out there.
0:39:31 > 0:39:34- It's been a pleasure.- All the best to you. Thanks, mate.- Not at all.
0:39:40 > 0:39:42I really enjoyed that and I really do think I've got
0:39:42 > 0:39:46a future as a crab and lobster fisherman, or I might just be...
0:39:46 > 0:39:47giving it all that.
0:39:47 > 0:39:50Sorry. Let's find out if Chris and Angela
0:39:50 > 0:39:52have liked any of the properties that we've shown them.
0:39:57 > 0:39:59Sitting here, looking out at that,
0:39:59 > 0:40:02I can understand why you want to move to Cornwall.
0:40:02 > 0:40:05- That is absolutely brilliant. - Amazing.- The question is,
0:40:05 > 0:40:07have we found somewhere you want to move to?
0:40:07 > 0:40:09Let's talk about the first property that we saw.
0:40:09 > 0:40:13- It was very pretty from the outside, fabulous garden.- Yeah.
0:40:13 > 0:40:17The downstairs was nice, it was nice.
0:40:17 > 0:40:20The kitchen could have been a bit bigger, I think.
0:40:20 > 0:40:25But the bedrooms were just too small.
0:40:25 > 0:40:28- Not for you.- It wasn't from me, no. - No, not really.
0:40:28 > 0:40:30It wasn't for you, so therefore, it wasn't for you.
0:40:30 > 0:40:32Absolutely true.
0:40:32 > 0:40:35We talk about bedrooms,
0:40:35 > 0:40:40- and property two had a rather nice one, didn't it?- That was amazing.
0:40:40 > 0:40:43The star feature of the property was that bedroom.
0:40:43 > 0:40:46And it wasn't just a bedroom, I think that does it down, actually,
0:40:46 > 0:40:47calling it a bedroom.
0:40:47 > 0:40:51It was the area where you would sit in the two tub chairs,
0:40:51 > 0:40:52looking our through that window.
0:40:52 > 0:40:55- The whole house was really nicely done, I think.- Beautiful.
0:40:55 > 0:40:57- Yeah, it was.- Absolutely beautiful.
0:40:57 > 0:41:00- Only one thing, really, for me. - I know what you're going to say.
0:41:00 > 0:41:04- I mean, it was the drive to it. - What was wrong with that?
0:41:04 > 0:41:07It's really very narrow in places.
0:41:07 > 0:41:10Because we've got to bear in mind,
0:41:10 > 0:41:14maybe the driving will get more difficult as we get older, you know.
0:41:14 > 0:41:16It was a little bit too far out, that's all,
0:41:16 > 0:41:21- I would like to be a bit more in a community.- Right.
0:41:21 > 0:41:26And the mystery property, a new-build, and you liked it.
0:41:26 > 0:41:30That was a surprise. It was a mystery, as I asked for.
0:41:30 > 0:41:34- No, it was...- Definitely part of a community.- Oh, yes.
0:41:34 > 0:41:38Had the stunning views, absolutely fabulous.
0:41:38 > 0:41:42- It had the wood burner.- Yeah. - And a lovely kitchen.
0:41:42 > 0:41:47Beautifully done with all mod cons, a small-ish garden,
0:41:47 > 0:41:50- but you can't have it all. - No, you can't.
0:41:50 > 0:41:52It was pretty damn good.
0:41:52 > 0:41:56- So, it sounds to me like you might go back and see it.- I think we will.
0:41:56 > 0:41:59- I don't think there's any doubt, yes, we will.- Fantastic, wow.
0:41:59 > 0:42:03- So you could have found your house. - We could have.- Yeah, yeah.
0:42:03 > 0:42:06Listen, I hope you do find your perfect property in Cornwall,
0:42:06 > 0:42:09it's been really fun sharing a couple of days with you.
0:42:09 > 0:42:11- Thank you.- Really nice to meet you both.
0:42:11 > 0:42:13- Thank you, it's been lovely. - Pleasure.
0:42:19 > 0:42:21That was a turn up for the books, wasn't it?
0:42:21 > 0:42:23I thought we had it in the bag with that second property
0:42:23 > 0:42:24and the gorgeous bedroom.
0:42:24 > 0:42:27But Chris and Angela seem really taken
0:42:27 > 0:42:30by the modern mystery property. What a dramatic turnaround.
0:42:30 > 0:42:32I suppose we'd expect nothing else
0:42:32 > 0:42:34with Angela's love of the theatre, darling.
0:42:34 > 0:42:37And I suppose, it just goes to show that you don't really know
0:42:37 > 0:42:39what you want until you see it.
0:42:39 > 0:42:41Tell you what I want, to get in out of this wind.
0:42:41 > 0:42:43We'll see you next time on Escape To The Country.
0:42:43 > 0:42:47Chris and Angela hotfooted it straight back to Helston
