0:00:02 > 0:00:04Back in the early 1800s, this house and these gardens

0:00:04 > 0:00:06were the home and natural playground

0:00:06 > 0:00:08to a very inquisitive young boy

0:00:08 > 0:00:12who, some 200 years later, is known as the father of evolution.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15Find out whose origins began here,

0:00:15 > 0:00:19and exactly which county I'm in in, just a moment.

0:00:36 > 0:00:39It's the good life that's driving today's couple

0:00:39 > 0:00:41to find their rural idyll.

0:00:41 > 0:00:43Indeed, relaxation is high on the agenda.

0:00:43 > 0:00:45A good space.

0:00:45 > 0:00:49I'm just a little concerned where my TV's going to go.

0:00:49 > 0:00:52But one prophecy really hits the nail on the head.

0:00:52 > 0:00:55Steve, I know you wanted to be in bed and watch TV...

0:00:55 > 0:00:57That is perfect. That is just like home from home.

0:01:00 > 0:01:04Today, I'm in Shropshire, and these are the grounds of Mount House,

0:01:04 > 0:01:09in Shrewsbury. This is where a young Charles Darwin was first captivated

0:01:09 > 0:01:10by the natural world,

0:01:10 > 0:01:14a fascination which in later life led onto his ground-breaking work,

0:01:14 > 0:01:16On The Origin Of Species.

0:01:16 > 0:01:19These woodlands were the Darwin family's thinking path.

0:01:19 > 0:01:23Today they are looked after by the Shropshire Wildlife Trust.

0:01:23 > 0:01:26With this fantastic vantage point over the River Severn,

0:01:26 > 0:01:29it certainly is a fantastic point

0:01:29 > 0:01:32to reflect on the great beauty of this county.

0:01:32 > 0:01:37The landlocked county of Shropshire sits between the West Midlands

0:01:37 > 0:01:40and Wales, and borders six other counties.

0:01:40 > 0:01:43The undulating landscape of the Shropshire Hills

0:01:43 > 0:01:45Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

0:01:45 > 0:01:47covers around a quarter of the county,

0:01:47 > 0:01:51and climbs to its highest point, Brown Clee Hill.

0:01:51 > 0:01:56At 540 metres, it provides expansive views over agricultural fields.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01Set in the valley here is the small town of Clun,

0:02:01 > 0:02:04whose 15th-century bridge arches over the River Clun,

0:02:04 > 0:02:06and connects its two halves.

0:02:06 > 0:02:09On one side, the robust square tower

0:02:09 > 0:02:12of its Norman Grade II-listed church,

0:02:12 > 0:02:14typical of many in these border areas,

0:02:14 > 0:02:18and would have been used for defence in times of conflict.

0:02:18 > 0:02:21On the other side are the imposing ruins of Clun Castle,

0:02:21 > 0:02:25which centuries ago protected the region from Welsh attack.

0:02:25 > 0:02:30Just outside the Shropshire hills is the medieval market town of Ludlow.

0:02:30 > 0:02:32Today it's a gastronomic hub,

0:02:32 > 0:02:35and home to around 500 listed buildings,

0:02:35 > 0:02:39with many distinctive timber-frame examples.

0:02:39 > 0:02:43It's clear to see why poet Sir John Betjeman thought Ludlow to be

0:02:43 > 0:02:45the loveliest town in England.

0:02:45 > 0:02:49So, with its diverse landscape and rich architectural heritage,

0:02:49 > 0:02:52Shropshire is an enticing proposition,

0:02:52 > 0:02:55both for visitors and those making a permanent move.

0:02:58 > 0:03:01Shropshire's housing market offers comparatively good value,

0:03:01 > 0:03:05when you consider that the average price of a detached property here

0:03:05 > 0:03:09is just under £277,000.

0:03:09 > 0:03:13That's £34,000 less than the national figure.

0:03:13 > 0:03:18And with its diverse housing stock and low population density,

0:03:18 > 0:03:22it offers a really fertile ground for rural property shoppers.

0:03:22 > 0:03:23So what about today's couple?

0:03:23 > 0:03:27Which corner of this gorgeous county have they set their hearts on?

0:03:27 > 0:03:28Let's find out.

0:03:29 > 0:03:33Retired civil servants Elaine and husband Steve from Peterborough

0:03:33 > 0:03:35found love second time around

0:03:35 > 0:03:37when they got together at work 14 years ago

0:03:37 > 0:03:40and married three years later.

0:03:40 > 0:03:45I think the main reason we work well as a couple is because we have

0:03:45 > 0:03:48respect for each other, we enjoy the same things,

0:03:48 > 0:03:51we both laugh at the same things.

0:03:51 > 0:03:56Elaine is, well, my wife, but also my best friend.

0:03:56 > 0:04:00The couple have lived in their four-bedroom detached house

0:04:00 > 0:04:01for the past four years,

0:04:01 > 0:04:05but with their children having grown up and flown the nest,

0:04:05 > 0:04:08they've decided it's time to move on to pastures new.

0:04:08 > 0:04:12I've noticed a big difference in Peterborough

0:04:12 > 0:04:14over the last few years.

0:04:14 > 0:04:17It's very busy and crowded in Peterborough.

0:04:17 > 0:04:19Traffic is very heavy.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22Now we feel it's time for a change.

0:04:23 > 0:04:25After many visits to Shropshire,

0:04:25 > 0:04:27they've got to know the lie of the land,

0:04:27 > 0:04:29and have earmarked their preferred area

0:04:29 > 0:04:31in which to seek out their forever home.

0:04:31 > 0:04:36We prefer the south part, because it's a little bit more scenic.

0:04:36 > 0:04:40The north is a little flatter and we prefer the rolling countryside.

0:04:40 > 0:04:43We've seen possibly in the last two visits

0:04:43 > 0:04:50that we've had over the last few months about 15, 16 properties.

0:04:50 > 0:04:53We haven't actually found that perfect place yet.

0:04:53 > 0:04:57But when they do find it, they won't be moving alone.

0:04:57 > 0:04:59Their numerous koi carp will be joining them.

0:04:59 > 0:05:03The fish are definitely coming with us.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06All the fish have individual names.

0:05:06 > 0:05:09Some of the fish are named after family members...

0:05:10 > 0:05:12..who may have departed.

0:05:12 > 0:05:13The couple love spending time

0:05:13 > 0:05:16tending to and enjoying their garden,

0:05:16 > 0:05:20and when they move, their hot tub will definitely be coming with them.

0:05:20 > 0:05:25We have had the hot tub now for just under two years.

0:05:25 > 0:05:29I do enjoy it, we go in there frequently.

0:05:29 > 0:05:33We will spend most of our day out in the garden,

0:05:33 > 0:05:37and then, when our bones are weary,

0:05:37 > 0:05:41there's nothing nicer than to go in with a glass of wine and relax

0:05:41 > 0:05:43and just enjoy the end of the evening.

0:05:44 > 0:05:46So, with their house on the market,

0:05:46 > 0:05:49and big plans for their new country life,

0:05:49 > 0:05:51this couple are raring to go.

0:05:51 > 0:05:55I'm looking forward to exploring another county.

0:05:55 > 0:05:59And most importantly, just to do some new things with our lives,

0:05:59 > 0:06:01we've got a chapter now that's starting,

0:06:01 > 0:06:05and I want to make sure that we don't just do the same things,

0:06:05 > 0:06:09but we embrace the move and the changes it's going to bring about.

0:06:11 > 0:06:14Elaine and Steve have homed in on the southern half of Shropshire,

0:06:14 > 0:06:19and are happy to cross borders into Worcestershire or Herefordshire.

0:06:19 > 0:06:21Before we start the clock on our property search,

0:06:21 > 0:06:23I'm meeting up with them in the county

0:06:23 > 0:06:26to hear exactly what they are looking for.

0:06:26 > 0:06:28Elaine, Steve, welcome to sunny Shropshire!

0:06:28 > 0:06:30Welcome.

0:06:30 > 0:06:33So what kind of property are we searching for?

0:06:33 > 0:06:36Well, we'd like a character property,

0:06:36 > 0:06:39preferably three to four bedrooms.

0:06:39 > 0:06:42If it has a study, three bedrooms would be fine.

0:06:42 > 0:06:45I would particularly be interested in a barn conversion.

0:06:45 > 0:06:48I rather like stone buildings.

0:06:48 > 0:06:52I know Steve's got some criteria of what he'd like.

0:06:52 > 0:06:56Outside storage is quite important to me because I've got lots of tools

0:06:56 > 0:06:58and garden equipment to store.

0:06:58 > 0:07:02I also like to get away from the house now and again.

0:07:02 > 0:07:04- So a bit of a man cave!- Yes.

0:07:04 > 0:07:11And garden-wise, we would like to make sure that it's sufficient size,

0:07:11 > 0:07:13because we're really keen gardeners.

0:07:13 > 0:07:16We've said we wouldn't want anything much bigger than half an acre,

0:07:16 > 0:07:18which is quite substantial.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21We need to have room for a pond.

0:07:21 > 0:07:23And we'd also like to make sure

0:07:23 > 0:07:26that there's sufficient room for the hot tub,

0:07:26 > 0:07:28because that will also be on the move.

0:07:28 > 0:07:31A perfect property would be one that does have some kind of

0:07:31 > 0:07:34decent view to it, that would be wonderful.

0:07:34 > 0:07:37What kind of style internally would you like to see?

0:07:37 > 0:07:44We'd like a more open-plan area, if we can.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47Or at least large reception rooms.

0:07:47 > 0:07:49So that when we have visitors,

0:07:49 > 0:07:54there's more room for us to spread out and enjoy each other's company.

0:07:54 > 0:07:57I'd love to have a focal point in the lounge, if possible,

0:07:57 > 0:07:59like an inglenook fireplace,

0:07:59 > 0:08:02or some kind of fireplace that's the central point.

0:08:02 > 0:08:05Beams would be wonderful.

0:08:05 > 0:08:08And this dream property, in this gorgeous county,

0:08:08 > 0:08:11how close to amenities would you like to be?

0:08:11 > 0:08:17We'd like a fairly quiet, edge-of-the-village location.

0:08:17 > 0:08:21But with something actually happening in the village

0:08:21 > 0:08:22and a fairly vibrant community.

0:08:22 > 0:08:25How much are you looking to purchase this new property with?

0:08:25 > 0:08:29£425,000 would be our top budget.

0:08:29 > 0:08:31The only thing I can't guarantee is the weather,

0:08:31 > 0:08:35but I can guarantee that we have three fantastic properties

0:08:35 > 0:08:37for you to see, packed full with character

0:08:37 > 0:08:39which I know is what you're really after.

0:08:39 > 0:08:42- Looking forward to it. - Shall we start our adventure?

0:08:42 > 0:08:44- Yes, please.- Let's get searching.

0:08:46 > 0:08:50For their top budget of £425,000,

0:08:50 > 0:08:51Elaine and Steve would like

0:08:51 > 0:08:52a character property,

0:08:52 > 0:08:54with an open-plan living space

0:08:54 > 0:08:56and three to four bedrooms.

0:08:56 > 0:08:58They want a decent-sized garden

0:08:58 > 0:09:00which accommodates a pond and a hot tub,

0:09:00 > 0:09:03along with a workshop for Steve.

0:09:03 > 0:09:05Location wise, they're hoping to be

0:09:05 > 0:09:06close to a vibrant community.

0:09:08 > 0:09:11We've sourced a stunning selection of properties for them to view,

0:09:11 > 0:09:14but the price tag will only be revealed

0:09:14 > 0:09:17once they've completed each tour.

0:09:17 > 0:09:19The final visit will be to the Mystery House,

0:09:19 > 0:09:21which disguises its age well

0:09:21 > 0:09:24and will provide them with other surprises.

0:09:32 > 0:09:35Mindful of their request to live in a community,

0:09:35 > 0:09:38we're starting our property search in Much Wenlock.

0:09:38 > 0:09:43This medieval town is home to just 3,000 residents.

0:09:43 > 0:09:45It's had a market charter for 700 years,

0:09:45 > 0:09:48and there's still a market held here today

0:09:48 > 0:09:51in the 16th-century Guildhall.

0:09:51 > 0:09:55There's also a variety of independent shops lining the attractive lanes.

0:09:55 > 0:09:59The town is also the birthplace of one Dr William Penny Brookes,

0:09:59 > 0:10:02who inspired the modern Olympic Games.

0:10:03 > 0:10:05Do you know Much Wenlock at all?

0:10:05 > 0:10:09We came here on our first visit, when we first came to Shropshire,

0:10:09 > 0:10:13and we had a little look around, noticed how beautiful it is,

0:10:13 > 0:10:16just the kind of village that we are looking for.

0:10:16 > 0:10:18So, quite excited to be here.

0:10:18 > 0:10:19OK, let's have a look.

0:10:20 > 0:10:24Our first property is a two-minute rainy walk away.

0:10:25 > 0:10:27Very nice. Quirky.

0:10:27 > 0:10:31Built in 1661, in the reign of Charles II,

0:10:31 > 0:10:34just packed full of original features.

0:10:34 > 0:10:37- I love the windows, I love the doors.- I love the timbers.

0:10:37 > 0:10:39Yeah, I like the look of it, very nice.

0:10:39 > 0:10:41- You wanted local amenities. - Fabulous location.

0:10:41 > 0:10:44You've got the butcher, the baker up the road.

0:10:44 > 0:10:46All we need is the candlestick maker.

0:10:46 > 0:10:49- Shall we take a look inside? - Very much so.- Definitely.

0:10:49 > 0:10:54Not even a good old British downpour can dampen their spirits, as we head

0:10:54 > 0:10:58past the Grade II-listed facade and explore its historic interior.

0:10:58 > 0:11:01Let's get in out of the rain.

0:11:01 > 0:11:02In you come.

0:11:04 > 0:11:07- Nice and cosy.- Very cosy.

0:11:07 > 0:11:09I like it. Yes.

0:11:09 > 0:11:12- Character. - Lovely fireplace.- Fireplaces.

0:11:12 > 0:11:15You've got two, you've got your gas burner there

0:11:15 > 0:11:17and a multi-fuel burner there.

0:11:17 > 0:11:18That's lovely.

0:11:18 > 0:11:22Very inviting. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the house.

0:11:22 > 0:11:24- Shall we explore more?- Excellent. - OK.

0:11:28 > 0:11:31Here we are, into your open kitchen-diner.

0:11:31 > 0:11:33- I like that.- Yes.- Yeah.

0:11:33 > 0:11:35Do you like the flow of the house?

0:11:35 > 0:11:37I know you really want that open-plan living.

0:11:37 > 0:11:41I like it very much, I can imagine having family here,

0:11:41 > 0:11:43and we can be in the kitchen area

0:11:43 > 0:11:46but also can run through into the lounge

0:11:46 > 0:11:50but still feel in contact with one another in the two rooms.

0:11:50 > 0:11:53And you've also got, alongside the kitchen-diner space,

0:11:53 > 0:11:57- you've got a downstairs shower room and loo as well.- That's excellent.

0:11:57 > 0:12:00- Let's head upstairs because there's lots more to see.- Perfect.- OK.

0:12:03 > 0:12:06A stairway tucked between the kitchen and the living room

0:12:06 > 0:12:08leads up to the sleeping quarters

0:12:08 > 0:12:10where there's a beautifully fitted family bathroom,

0:12:10 > 0:12:12complete with roll-top bath,

0:12:12 > 0:12:15for the three bedrooms, all in the eaves.

0:12:15 > 0:12:18There's a cosy double at the front of the house,

0:12:18 > 0:12:21a single at the back with an open wardrobe,

0:12:21 > 0:12:24and next door is another stylish double.

0:12:25 > 0:12:26- Lovely.- Dual aspects.

0:12:26 > 0:12:29Lovely and light. Plenty of storage.

0:12:29 > 0:12:33Excellent. Very nice. I like the fact it's quite light in here.

0:12:33 > 0:12:37Dual aspect, like you say, it's deceptively large.

0:12:37 > 0:12:40- Yeah.- It is quite large.

0:12:40 > 0:12:41It's a good space.

0:12:41 > 0:12:45I'm just a little bit concerned where my TV is going to go

0:12:45 > 0:12:49- for my breakfast TV. - THEY LAUGH

0:12:49 > 0:12:50So this bedroom that we're in at the moment

0:12:50 > 0:12:52is the current master bedroom in the property,

0:12:52 > 0:12:55but permission has been granted, planning permission,

0:12:55 > 0:12:57to extend the bedroom behind us,

0:12:57 > 0:13:00and it would become even bigger than this master bedroom

0:13:00 > 0:13:04and you could have that en suite, that walk-in wardrobe,

0:13:04 > 0:13:09so, the property, although the front facade is Grade II-listed,

0:13:09 > 0:13:11has potential for you to extend it

0:13:11 > 0:13:15- in the way you would wish at the back.- That's very interesting,

0:13:15 > 0:13:17there's never enough room for Elaine's clothes.

0:13:17 > 0:13:21- So that would be...- So extra wardrobe space could be welcome!

0:13:21 > 0:13:23Definitely worth thinking about, yeah.

0:13:23 > 0:13:24There's much more up here to see

0:13:24 > 0:13:29but I also want to take you out into the garden, which is stunning.

0:13:29 > 0:13:31Of course, we've got to talk about price.

0:13:31 > 0:13:33THEY LAUGH

0:13:33 > 0:13:35So start thinking.

0:13:35 > 0:13:38- Let's have a look at the wonderful garden.- OK.

0:13:38 > 0:13:41Outside is set out in different zones,

0:13:41 > 0:13:45including two seating areas and a path through the secluded lawn.

0:13:45 > 0:13:49There's also a greenhouse, a handy shed and a traditional caravan,

0:13:49 > 0:13:51which gives Steve that man space he's after.

0:13:52 > 0:13:55There's also a ready-made area for their hot tub.

0:13:57 > 0:13:59Elaine, I can hear lots of oohs and aahs

0:13:59 > 0:14:01as we were walking through the garden.

0:14:01 > 0:14:05It's absolutely perfect, the garden, perfect size,

0:14:05 > 0:14:09lovely, the way it's been laid out, like little compartments.

0:14:09 > 0:14:16- I'm amazed.- And space for a pond, for some koi carp to come with you.

0:14:16 > 0:14:17Essential.

0:14:19 > 0:14:20Shall we talk about price?

0:14:20 > 0:14:23Yes, that's a difficult one, actually.

0:14:23 > 0:14:26What do you think this property and gorgeous garden

0:14:26 > 0:14:29are currently on the market for?

0:14:29 > 0:14:31I'm going to guess...

0:14:31 > 0:14:33that it would be...

0:14:33 > 0:14:37probably 420.

0:14:37 > 0:14:41- OK, £420,000.- £420,000.

0:14:41 > 0:14:43Steve, what do you think?

0:14:43 > 0:14:47I think it's a little bit lower than that, I think it's £410,000.

0:14:47 > 0:14:50This property is currently on the market for...

0:14:52 > 0:14:56..£385,000.

0:14:56 > 0:14:58Wow, I'm surprised.

0:14:58 > 0:15:01- That's good value. - That is good value.

0:15:02 > 0:15:06Now you know about the price, and with that planning permission,

0:15:06 > 0:15:10why don't you head back in, have another look around,

0:15:10 > 0:15:12- and we'll catch up in a bit. - Wonderful.

0:15:12 > 0:15:14- OK. I'll catch up with you later. - Thank you.

0:15:15 > 0:15:18This stunning 17th-century cottage

0:15:18 > 0:15:21is a substantial £40,000 under budget.

0:15:21 > 0:15:23It's packed with original character,

0:15:23 > 0:15:27and the downstairs living areas have great flow between them.

0:15:27 > 0:15:30Upstairs, there are three bedrooms,

0:15:30 > 0:15:33and outside, they get their garden paradise.

0:15:33 > 0:15:36What's more, Steve gets his man cave.

0:15:36 > 0:15:39Location-wise, it's a stone's throw from the hub of the community.

0:15:41 > 0:15:45This is nice, Steve, it's bright, and...

0:15:46 > 0:15:49A little small at the moment, but...

0:15:49 > 0:15:53- It is small.- ..if we was to consider an extension,

0:15:53 > 0:15:56this would then become the master.

0:15:56 > 0:16:00Overall, I like the property very much, it's got lots of plus points.

0:16:00 > 0:16:03It's deceptively large, in actual fact,

0:16:03 > 0:16:05and the garden is absolutely beautiful.

0:16:05 > 0:16:10Really impressed with the property, nice size, bright,

0:16:10 > 0:16:13I could visualise myself living here.

0:16:13 > 0:16:15Fabulous location.

0:16:15 > 0:16:17Garden is amazing.

0:16:17 > 0:16:20Really impressed overall with property number one.

0:16:20 > 0:16:22Great start, even if a bit wet.

0:16:22 > 0:16:25Hi, guys. Come out, the umbrella is ready for you.

0:16:27 > 0:16:28Have you had a good look round?

0:16:28 > 0:16:31- Yes.- Seen enough of property one? - Seen enough.

0:16:31 > 0:16:35OK. Great, smiling, I like that. Shall we head off to property two?

0:16:35 > 0:16:37- Excellent.- Come on.- Lead on.

0:16:43 > 0:16:46The ideal English country garden is something

0:16:46 > 0:16:49many of us strive to create on home turf.

0:16:49 > 0:16:52Visiting public gardens provides great inspiration

0:16:52 > 0:16:54on planting throughout the seasons.

0:16:54 > 0:16:58One such horticultural highlight is in the village of Albrighton,

0:16:58 > 0:17:01and it's owned by rose breeder David Austin.

0:17:01 > 0:17:05He's won 22 gold medals at the Chelsea Flower Show,

0:17:05 > 0:17:08and has been breeding roses for over 70 years.

0:17:08 > 0:17:11The gardens are home to some 800 rose varieties.

0:17:11 > 0:17:16of which 200 English roses have been exclusively created by David

0:17:16 > 0:17:18and are sold all over the world.

0:17:18 > 0:17:23Gardening enthusiasts Elaine and Steve have come to meet David Austin Jr,

0:17:23 > 0:17:27to find out where his father's passion for roses stemmed from.

0:17:29 > 0:17:33He was interested in gardening from a young age, he grew up on a farm,

0:17:33 > 0:17:37he was given the opportunity to actually create his own garden,

0:17:37 > 0:17:40he then got into breeding, the concept of breeding plants,

0:17:40 > 0:17:43and he looked around at different plants,

0:17:43 > 0:17:47and the rose was the thing that he enjoyed the most.

0:17:47 > 0:17:51He wanted to create a new kind of rose.

0:17:51 > 0:17:53So, amongst all the many roses that you've got here,

0:17:53 > 0:17:56have you got a particular favourite yourself?

0:17:56 > 0:18:00Well, I suppose I should say one called Olivia Rose Austin,

0:18:00 > 0:18:03it's a beautiful flower, it's got a wonderful fragrance,

0:18:03 > 0:18:05a lovely pink colour.

0:18:05 > 0:18:08But it's also the name of my daughter. So...

0:18:09 > 0:18:12New rose varieties are created here each year,

0:18:12 > 0:18:16and David's going to show Elaine and Steve where the magic happens.

0:18:16 > 0:18:21It begins with deciding what rose to cross with which rose.

0:18:21 > 0:18:24You understand what we call the mother,

0:18:24 > 0:18:26the characteristics of the one parent,

0:18:26 > 0:18:29and you understand the characteristic of the other parent,

0:18:29 > 0:18:31and you're trying to bring those together,

0:18:31 > 0:18:35and get the best of both in a new rose.

0:18:35 > 0:18:38We're looking here at a rose

0:18:38 > 0:18:40that has been hybridised this summer.

0:18:40 > 0:18:46This is the mother plant, we have taken pollen from the other parent,

0:18:46 > 0:18:49we've applied it by hand with a paintbrush,

0:18:49 > 0:18:53and we now see here the hips forming

0:18:53 > 0:18:57that will contain the seed for the new rose.

0:18:57 > 0:19:00In the autumn, the hips will be harvested and stored

0:19:00 > 0:19:05before the seeds are planted in the spring to create new varieties.

0:19:05 > 0:19:11We're doing this process in here 60,000 times, by hand,

0:19:11 > 0:19:15and we will be producing something like 100,000 seedlings.

0:19:15 > 0:19:16Every single one will be different.

0:19:16 > 0:19:19Just like you never get two people the same,

0:19:19 > 0:19:20you never get two roses the same.

0:19:20 > 0:19:25From the tens of thousands of seedlings planted last year,

0:19:25 > 0:19:27only two or three varieties will make the grade,

0:19:27 > 0:19:29and it takes around nine years

0:19:29 > 0:19:31before the roses are actually ready to sell.

0:19:31 > 0:19:34Back out in the garden,

0:19:34 > 0:19:38senior rosarian Michael Marriott, who designs rose gardens worldwide,

0:19:38 > 0:19:41is ready to show Elaine and Steve how to pot a rose

0:19:41 > 0:19:44and get the best out of it.

0:19:44 > 0:19:46If you get a rose like this,

0:19:46 > 0:19:49the most important thing first of all is to make sure it's really wet,

0:19:49 > 0:19:53so give it a jolly good watering, or, even better,

0:19:53 > 0:19:55soak it in a bucket of water for an hour or something.

0:19:55 > 0:19:57And then, when you take the pot off...

0:20:01 > 0:20:03There we are. We've got a lovely root system there already.

0:20:03 > 0:20:06And you can see it's damp all the way through.

0:20:06 > 0:20:09Sometimes you'll buy it and you might find the top humus is wet

0:20:09 > 0:20:10and the bottom is dry.

0:20:10 > 0:20:12So make sure it's damp all the way through.

0:20:12 > 0:20:15Just break up the root ball a little bit.

0:20:15 > 0:20:16Don't be too vicious about it.

0:20:16 > 0:20:18Um...and then...

0:20:19 > 0:20:22..just make sure that the level is right.

0:20:22 > 0:20:24You want the bottom of the stems

0:20:24 > 0:20:26to just be an inch or two

0:20:26 > 0:20:27below the final level.

0:20:27 > 0:20:29- So that's about right there.- OK.

0:20:29 > 0:20:31It's then just a matter...

0:20:31 > 0:20:32Shall I hold it while you...?

0:20:32 > 0:20:36Yeah. It's then a matter of putting the compost in.

0:20:37 > 0:20:40Then, a really good watering.

0:20:40 > 0:20:42You can put all of that on,

0:20:42 > 0:20:45there's a gallon and a half or two gallons in there.

0:20:45 > 0:20:49And is it important to just water to the roots like that?

0:20:49 > 0:20:51Cos I tend to sprinkle over the top.

0:20:51 > 0:20:53Ah, that's a very good point, that is.

0:20:53 > 0:20:55When you do water,

0:20:55 > 0:20:58try and do it in the morning when the leaves will dry out quickly,

0:20:58 > 0:21:01or do it carefully so the leaves don't get wet at all.

0:21:01 > 0:21:03That's very interesting, actually.

0:21:03 > 0:21:05I look forward to trying this at home.

0:21:05 > 0:21:07Good luck with your house-hunting as well.

0:21:07 > 0:21:10Thank you very much. Thank you for your time.

0:21:10 > 0:21:13Armed with some top gardening advice and inspiration,

0:21:13 > 0:21:16it's time to return to our property search.

0:21:19 > 0:21:23For our next Shropshire stop, we're off to the hamlet of Noneley.

0:21:23 > 0:21:26It's slightly further north in the county, but well worth the journey.

0:21:26 > 0:21:30The closest amenities are found just a mile away from Noneley,

0:21:30 > 0:21:33in the peaceful village of Loppington.

0:21:33 > 0:21:35There are many historic buildings here,

0:21:35 > 0:21:40including the 14th-century St Michael and All Angels Church,

0:21:40 > 0:21:42which is Grade I-listed.

0:21:42 > 0:21:47There's also a village hall, a post office and a dining pub.

0:21:47 > 0:21:51A five-minute drive takes us to our impressive second property,

0:21:51 > 0:21:55with the style Elaine has said she loves.

0:21:55 > 0:21:57So here we are, property number two.

0:21:57 > 0:22:01Your barn conversion. Packed full of character.

0:22:01 > 0:22:02Double garage for you.

0:22:02 > 0:22:05- Very nice.- Or something I could use for storage or a workshop.

0:22:05 > 0:22:08- Yep. Sounds wonderful.- Sounds interesting.- I like the brickwork.

0:22:08 > 0:22:10- Shall we get in there?- Yes, please.

0:22:13 > 0:22:17This small collection of old barns and a granary

0:22:17 > 0:22:19was converted into dwellings in 2007.

0:22:19 > 0:22:23The home we are going to explore is one of six in the complex,

0:22:23 > 0:22:25and attached on both sides.

0:22:25 > 0:22:28Inside has real wow factor.

0:22:28 > 0:22:32A large hall leads us into an open-plan kitchen-diner.

0:22:32 > 0:22:34I'm amazed.

0:22:34 > 0:22:38- I love it.- It's a wonderful room. I love the fireplace.

0:22:38 > 0:22:42So I wanted to have a space where, when our guests come,

0:22:42 > 0:22:46I can be still cooking and I can be with everybody.

0:22:46 > 0:22:48- And this is it, isn't it? - It's huge.

0:22:48 > 0:22:51A very contemporary interior that mixes with

0:22:51 > 0:22:55- the beautiful old features. Just what we want.- Just right.

0:22:56 > 0:23:00The ground floor of this barn conversion is laid out in a T-shape.

0:23:00 > 0:23:01Behind the kitchen,

0:23:01 > 0:23:03and also leading off the hallway,

0:23:03 > 0:23:04is the sitting room.

0:23:04 > 0:23:07This was the granary in the property's former life,

0:23:07 > 0:23:10and it's where we continue our tour.

0:23:10 > 0:23:12A really good space.

0:23:12 > 0:23:15So light and bright.

0:23:15 > 0:23:18I love the arches to the door frame.

0:23:18 > 0:23:21I think there's scope for a bigger TV!

0:23:23 > 0:23:24- You're smiling?- Yes.

0:23:24 > 0:23:27Well, I'm glad you like the living space we've seen so far downstairs.

0:23:27 > 0:23:30There's also a beautiful office/craft room,

0:23:30 > 0:23:34that's separate to the five bedrooms that are in this property.

0:23:35 > 0:23:37Let's start exploring those upstairs.

0:23:37 > 0:23:40- Sounds wonderful.- OK! - Hopefully we don't get lost.

0:23:42 > 0:23:44Also on this floor, at the back of the hallway,

0:23:44 > 0:23:45there's a laundry room,

0:23:45 > 0:23:47and to its left, a double bedroom

0:23:47 > 0:23:49with its own en suite.

0:23:49 > 0:23:52Then upstairs, four further bedrooms

0:23:52 > 0:23:54all fan out from a central landing -

0:23:54 > 0:23:55one to the front of the house

0:23:55 > 0:23:57and three to the back.

0:23:57 > 0:24:00They're serviced by a bright family bathroom.

0:24:01 > 0:24:05There's a double bedroom, currently a twin, with its own en suite,

0:24:05 > 0:24:08and another double next door.

0:24:08 > 0:24:10But we're heading to the largest of them all,

0:24:10 > 0:24:12also with its own en suite.

0:24:12 > 0:24:15So, through into the main bedroom.

0:24:16 > 0:24:18Oh, and a wardrobe space.

0:24:18 > 0:24:22- Built-in wardrobe space, storage above that.- Yeah.

0:24:22 > 0:24:25Steve, I know you wanted to be in bed and watch TV.

0:24:25 > 0:24:28That is perfect. That is just like home from home.

0:24:28 > 0:24:31Yeah. Really, really fabulous.

0:24:32 > 0:24:35The blend is just perfect, I think.

0:24:35 > 0:24:37Old with new.

0:24:37 > 0:24:38It's just perfect.

0:24:38 > 0:24:41And gorgeous views out into the garden.

0:24:41 > 0:24:44Yes, that's looking fabulous out there.

0:24:44 > 0:24:47Well, there is a lot of house to explore and a garden to get into.

0:24:47 > 0:24:50Let's decide where we're going to put that hot tub of yours.

0:24:50 > 0:24:52And then of course we've got to talk about price.

0:24:52 > 0:24:56- OK.- So let's go out in that garden and take a look.- OK.

0:24:57 > 0:25:01At the back of the house is a slate sun terrace leading onto a large

0:25:01 > 0:25:06enclosed lawn, with plenty of space for both hot tub and pond.

0:25:06 > 0:25:09So, out into your very private garden,

0:25:09 > 0:25:12which is kind of a nice blank canvas, I think,

0:25:12 > 0:25:13for you to work with.

0:25:13 > 0:25:16It's actually very neat and tidy, a little gem.

0:25:17 > 0:25:21How much do you think this little gem is on the market for?

0:25:21 > 0:25:25I would actually say it's over our budget,

0:25:25 > 0:25:31and I'm going to go in at around 435.

0:25:31 > 0:25:34- £435,000?- £435,000, yeah.

0:25:34 > 0:25:36Steve, what do you think?

0:25:36 > 0:25:40I'm going to say £425,000.

0:25:40 > 0:25:47This property is currently on the market for £415,000.

0:25:47 > 0:25:51- Wow! That's... that's really good.- That is good.

0:25:51 > 0:25:54- That's really good.- I'm pleasantly surprised by that.- I am.

0:25:54 > 0:25:56I didn't think it would come in under budget.

0:25:56 > 0:25:59- I was hoping.- Well, now you know it's under budget,

0:25:59 > 0:26:02why don't you have a look around again?

0:26:02 > 0:26:05There's a lot of house to explore. I'll catch up with you in a moment.

0:26:07 > 0:26:10This beautiful converted barn delivers generously,

0:26:10 > 0:26:13and it's still £10,000 under budget.

0:26:13 > 0:26:15It offers Elaine and Steve

0:26:15 > 0:26:18character, style and open-plan living.

0:26:18 > 0:26:21There are five bedrooms here, and as requested,

0:26:21 > 0:26:26a substantial garden with plenty of room to accommodate all their needs.

0:26:29 > 0:26:32- Wow!- Your man cave!

0:26:32 > 0:26:34This is a fantastic space.

0:26:34 > 0:26:38A fantastic place for storage and also a lovely workbench.

0:26:38 > 0:26:41This house could definitely be a contender.

0:26:41 > 0:26:43It ticks all our boxes, no question.

0:26:44 > 0:26:47There's fantastic living space,

0:26:47 > 0:26:51great reception areas and a terrific garden.

0:26:51 > 0:26:56Plenty of room to place our pond and our beloved hot tub.

0:26:56 > 0:26:58It's an amazing house.

0:26:58 > 0:27:01I could visualise us living here.

0:27:01 > 0:27:05Wonderful space, fantastic outlook.

0:27:05 > 0:27:06I can't really say more.

0:27:06 > 0:27:08Really, really love it.

0:27:08 > 0:27:10Hey, have you had a good look round?

0:27:10 > 0:27:12Yes, we've had a really good look round.

0:27:12 > 0:27:15- There's a lot of house to take in. - There certainly is

0:27:15 > 0:27:17- and we're still smiling.- Yes.

0:27:17 > 0:27:19At the end of a day that's seen torrential rain

0:27:19 > 0:27:22- and a glimmer of sunshine in the end.- Yes.

0:27:22 > 0:27:23Elaine's delighted because she can see

0:27:23 > 0:27:26how much extra furniture she can buy to fill that house.

0:27:26 > 0:27:29- Great, we're thinking about furniture now?- Absolutely. - We're at that stage?- Yes.

0:27:29 > 0:27:31Good, so a good end to day one?

0:27:31 > 0:27:32Yes, very good, yes.

0:27:32 > 0:27:34Well, more to come -

0:27:34 > 0:27:38Mystery House tomorrow as well, and lots to think about.

0:27:38 > 0:27:40- Yes, very much so. - Let's head home.

0:27:53 > 0:27:56It's the second day of our tour around Shropshire,

0:27:56 > 0:27:59searching out a country pad for Elaine and Steve from Peterborough.

0:27:59 > 0:28:03They've got a top budget of £425,000

0:28:03 > 0:28:06to buy a three- to four-bedroom character home

0:28:06 > 0:28:10with a garden big enough for a pond and hot tub.

0:28:10 > 0:28:12We're in with a remotely good chance

0:28:12 > 0:28:15of striking gold with our Mystery House.

0:28:15 > 0:28:18It surprises me that when something is in such beautiful surroundings,

0:28:18 > 0:28:21it lifts your heart so much.

0:28:21 > 0:28:25And I'll be finding out how drinking greens can be palatable.

0:28:25 > 0:28:28Oh, that is delicious!

0:28:32 > 0:28:35Having already seen 15 properties,

0:28:35 > 0:28:38it was always going to be tricky to find Elaine and Steve

0:28:38 > 0:28:41something that perfectly fit their bill,

0:28:41 > 0:28:44but both houses on day one seemed to do that,

0:28:44 > 0:28:46even though they were quite different

0:28:46 > 0:28:48in both style and location.

0:28:48 > 0:28:51So, where does that leave today's Mystery House?

0:28:51 > 0:28:53Well, it's in a very tranquil location

0:28:53 > 0:28:56with a character that's not quite what it seems.

0:28:56 > 0:29:00It's really going to give Elaine and Steve an awful lot to think about.

0:29:03 > 0:29:06What do you think the Mystery House might have in store for us today?

0:29:06 > 0:29:10I think property number three could be a curveball.

0:29:10 > 0:29:14I believe it's going to be one that's going to have a view.

0:29:14 > 0:29:18My guess could be that it might have a more contemporary feel to it,

0:29:18 > 0:29:21slightly different to what we've looked at,

0:29:21 > 0:29:24but with some kind of character.

0:29:24 > 0:29:26Steve, what do you think?

0:29:26 > 0:29:29I thought it might be perhaps a new-build-type property

0:29:29 > 0:29:32but with some character.

0:29:32 > 0:29:35But whatever happens, I think it will blow us away

0:29:35 > 0:29:39in some particular way that will be completely unexpected.

0:29:39 > 0:29:42We're really excited about the Mystery House.

0:29:48 > 0:29:52I'll keep them guessing, as we cross the border into Worcestershire

0:29:52 > 0:29:53and the hamlet of Orleton.

0:29:53 > 0:29:57Two miles away in the village of Stanford Bridge

0:29:57 > 0:30:01is the attractive St Mary's Church, built in the 1760s.

0:30:01 > 0:30:04It perches high on the bluff, with a bird's eye view over the village.

0:30:04 > 0:30:06There's a good community feel here,

0:30:06 > 0:30:10with a village hall and a collection of small local shops.

0:30:10 > 0:30:12Orleton is five minutes away

0:30:12 > 0:30:15and it's where we find our Mystery House,

0:30:15 > 0:30:17which is set in a more isolated location

0:30:17 > 0:30:19than they might have imagined.

0:30:19 > 0:30:22But it's nonetheless beautiful.

0:30:22 > 0:30:25I like it. Yeah, very different.

0:30:25 > 0:30:29I just like...the general feel of it and where it is.

0:30:29 > 0:30:33- I like where it is.- Yes.- It's quite remote, but it doesn't feel remote.

0:30:33 > 0:30:37Part of the mystery of the Mystery House is this house,

0:30:37 > 0:30:39a labour of love,

0:30:39 > 0:30:44was rebuilt in the 1970s, so it's not actually listed.

0:30:44 > 0:30:46It was stripped back to the bare bones

0:30:46 > 0:30:51and lovingly rebuilt, inch by inch, from reclaimed local materials.

0:30:51 > 0:30:54- Unbelievable.- It surprises me

0:30:54 > 0:30:57that when something is in such beautiful surroundings,

0:30:57 > 0:31:00as this is, even though it's quite remote...

0:31:00 > 0:31:02it lifts your heart so much.

0:31:04 > 0:31:07I really thought that I wanted to be

0:31:07 > 0:31:11somewhere with a little bit more of a buzz about it, but...

0:31:11 > 0:31:13this gives me a really good feeling.

0:31:13 > 0:31:16- Well, let's get inside. - OK. Excellent.

0:31:18 > 0:31:22To the left of the Mystery House is a large detached garage with power,

0:31:22 > 0:31:26an ideal workshop for Steve. Once in the house,

0:31:26 > 0:31:29the porch leads us straight into a beamed breakfast room.

0:31:29 > 0:31:32Come into your country cottage kitchen.

0:31:34 > 0:31:35Very different.

0:31:35 > 0:31:38- Very different?- Very different, yes.

0:31:38 > 0:31:40Lots of character, but you know what?

0:31:40 > 0:31:44A little smaller than I thought it would be.

0:31:44 > 0:31:47But it's very quaint and I think it goes with the property.

0:31:47 > 0:31:51You also have more space around the corner of the kitchen there

0:31:51 > 0:31:54where all the white goods are, washing machine, etc.

0:31:54 > 0:31:58Whoever's done it like this has got it right for this property.

0:31:58 > 0:32:00Well, there's much more to explore.

0:32:00 > 0:32:03- Let's keep looking.- Excellent. Thank you.

0:32:03 > 0:32:05The kitchen leads to a central hallway

0:32:05 > 0:32:09which then flows into a spacious sitting room.

0:32:09 > 0:32:11That is very nice. The fireplace is very nice.

0:32:11 > 0:32:15- The fireplace is amazing, it's just what I've been looking for.- Yes.

0:32:15 > 0:32:20It's got the character, it's a good size.

0:32:20 > 0:32:23Windows all round, so views of the garden.

0:32:23 > 0:32:26- Very nice.- The room feels quite small to me...

0:32:27 > 0:32:28But cosy.

0:32:28 > 0:32:30Well, let's have a look upstairs,

0:32:30 > 0:32:33- then let's see what you think. - That's wonderful, thank you.

0:32:33 > 0:32:36Retracing our steps to the main hallway,

0:32:36 > 0:32:38a staircase leads up to the first floor,

0:32:38 > 0:32:40where there's a family bathroom

0:32:40 > 0:32:43servicing what could be four bedrooms.

0:32:43 > 0:32:47There's a potential double and a snug single on one side the house

0:32:47 > 0:32:50but we're heading to the landing in the middle.

0:32:50 > 0:32:53You may see the partition here.

0:32:53 > 0:32:56This study area was actually a fourth bedroom.

0:32:56 > 0:32:58- Right.- So they've removed that

0:32:58 > 0:33:01and you've now got three bedrooms in the property

0:33:01 > 0:33:04and that office space, which I know you were looking for.

0:33:04 > 0:33:05Yeah, I think it would work.

0:33:05 > 0:33:08We've got the main bedroom behind us, let's take a look at that.

0:33:08 > 0:33:09Excellent.

0:33:11 > 0:33:13It's a good size.

0:33:13 > 0:33:17I really like the windows like that.

0:33:17 > 0:33:20I think they're very unique.

0:33:20 > 0:33:24- Fantastic views and surprisingly very light and bright.- Yeah.

0:33:24 > 0:33:29Well, let's step out into the garden and look at your wraparound garden,

0:33:29 > 0:33:31mature garden, which hugs this cottage,

0:33:31 > 0:33:35and we also have to talk about price of the Mystery House.

0:33:35 > 0:33:36OK, thank you.

0:33:39 > 0:33:42The outside space is made up of seating areas,

0:33:42 > 0:33:44an expansive lawn and pretty borders.

0:33:44 > 0:33:47And with the remoteness of our Mystery House,

0:33:47 > 0:33:50come the welcome sounds of the countryside.

0:33:50 > 0:33:53There's a little stream at the end of your property

0:33:53 > 0:33:56and this garden is not overlooked by anyone,

0:33:56 > 0:33:57so wherever you want to put the hot tub,

0:33:57 > 0:33:59no-one is going to see you at the end of the day

0:33:59 > 0:34:01having that nice glass of wine and unwinding.

0:34:01 > 0:34:04It's literally grazing fields on either side.

0:34:04 > 0:34:07I think the outside of the property,

0:34:07 > 0:34:11I'd even refer to them as the grounds,

0:34:11 > 0:34:13they are absolutely gorgeous.

0:34:13 > 0:34:16The view's amazing.

0:34:16 > 0:34:18Now you've had a chance to have a good look around inside

0:34:18 > 0:34:21and you've taken in the grounds as well,

0:34:21 > 0:34:24what do you think the Mystery House is on the market for?

0:34:24 > 0:34:29- Let's talk money.- I think it's on the market for £375,000.

0:34:29 > 0:34:31Elaine, what do you think?

0:34:31 > 0:34:36I'm going to guess £385,000.

0:34:36 > 0:34:38Well, Elaine, you're closest to the price,

0:34:38 > 0:34:42but the mystery property is actually currently on the market

0:34:42 > 0:34:44for £450,000,

0:34:44 > 0:34:47but the owner is willing to consider offers.

0:34:47 > 0:34:49So, with that in mind,

0:34:49 > 0:34:52why don't you re-explore the cottage and we'll catch up later.

0:34:52 > 0:34:55- There's a lot of talk about. - OK, thank you.

0:34:57 > 0:35:00Granted, this enchanting timber-framed mystery property

0:35:00 > 0:35:03is £25,000 over budget,

0:35:03 > 0:35:06but the vendor is open to offers.

0:35:06 > 0:35:09The spectacular setting, by Steve's own admission,

0:35:09 > 0:35:11was completely unexpected.

0:35:11 > 0:35:14The charming interior is full of character

0:35:14 > 0:35:17and there's the option to have four bedrooms.

0:35:17 > 0:35:19Outside, there's a wonderful garden with views

0:35:19 > 0:35:23and a double garage provides a workshop space for Steve.

0:35:23 > 0:35:25However, one of the challenges could be

0:35:25 > 0:35:28not having a community right on their doorstep.

0:35:30 > 0:35:32I like this.

0:35:32 > 0:35:33This is a terrific space.

0:35:33 > 0:35:36A character workshop to go with a character house.

0:35:36 > 0:35:39Architecturally, this is a wonderful property

0:35:39 > 0:35:44and it's set in a beautiful location with superb views.

0:35:44 > 0:35:48But inside, the accommodation is really too small for us,

0:35:48 > 0:35:51both downstairs and upstairs.

0:35:51 > 0:35:53The gardens were amazing.

0:35:53 > 0:35:58Overall, the property is stunning, but on this occasion,

0:35:58 > 0:36:01I don't think it would be for us.

0:36:01 > 0:36:02You've had a good look around.

0:36:02 > 0:36:06- We have, thank you.- Seen all you need to see of the mystery property?

0:36:06 > 0:36:07- Yes, I think so.- Yes, very much so.

0:36:07 > 0:36:09Shall we find somewhere for a cuppa?

0:36:09 > 0:36:11Because I have a feeling we've got a lot to talk about.

0:36:11 > 0:36:13- OK.- Good idea.

0:36:18 > 0:36:21Shropshire is known for its industrial heritage,

0:36:21 > 0:36:26but this largely rural county also has a fertile farming landscape.

0:36:26 > 0:36:29Its reputation for fresh local produce is celebrated

0:36:29 > 0:36:32at Britain's first food and drink festival,

0:36:32 > 0:36:36held in the market town of Ludlow every September.

0:36:36 > 0:36:38In the village of Great Chadwell

0:36:38 > 0:36:40on Shropshire's border with Staffordshire,

0:36:40 > 0:36:44third-generation farmer Philip Maddox has been growing salads

0:36:44 > 0:36:49on his 2,500 acre family farm for the past 25 years.

0:36:49 > 0:36:54He decided to take his business one step further almost two years ago

0:36:54 > 0:36:58and now produces fresh, cold-pressed juice from his crops.

0:36:58 > 0:37:01What makes land here in Shropshire so great for farming?

0:37:01 > 0:37:05In this area of Shropshire, we have light, loamy soils

0:37:05 > 0:37:08which are very fertile, reasonably flat

0:37:08 > 0:37:11and we have plenty of irrigation.

0:37:11 > 0:37:14How important is local provenance?

0:37:14 > 0:37:18I think it's becoming more important generally.

0:37:18 > 0:37:23I think our consumers like to know where their produce comes from,

0:37:23 > 0:37:26so, yeah, I think it's becoming much more of an issue.

0:37:26 > 0:37:29Why did you decide to make the change into juices?

0:37:29 > 0:37:32We had a hailstorm across a field of lettuce,

0:37:32 > 0:37:34and I looked at what options

0:37:34 > 0:37:38we could do with crop which was nutritionally perfect

0:37:38 > 0:37:44but visually not, and came across green juice.

0:37:44 > 0:37:47What are you currently harvesting on the farm?

0:37:47 > 0:37:50On the farm at the moment, well, we're in a field of spinach.

0:37:50 > 0:37:53We're also harvesting Little Gem lettuce, romaine lettuce,

0:37:53 > 0:37:55iceberg lettuce,

0:37:55 > 0:37:58wild rocket, baby leaf red lettuce.

0:38:00 > 0:38:02After harvesting, speed is of the essence

0:38:02 > 0:38:04to create and bottle the drink.

0:38:04 > 0:38:06Ingredients arrive at the juicery

0:38:06 > 0:38:08and are washed in natural spring water

0:38:08 > 0:38:12before being gently crushed to release the juice.

0:38:12 > 0:38:17Next, it passes through the press to extract the most liquid possible.

0:38:17 > 0:38:19Because no heat is used in the process,

0:38:19 > 0:38:22vitamins, minerals and nutrients are retained.

0:38:22 > 0:38:27Next, the liquid is pasteurised to give it a longer shelf life.

0:38:27 > 0:38:30Around 15,000 bottles of the farm's Be Fresh juice

0:38:30 > 0:38:33is made here each week, and is sold to shops

0:38:33 > 0:38:37and supermarkets all around the country.

0:38:37 > 0:38:40Product development director Julian Cannings is going to show me

0:38:40 > 0:38:44how to create a perfectly nutritious and appetising blend.

0:38:45 > 0:38:47So the greens we have today are

0:38:47 > 0:38:50the apple, cucumber, spinach, kale,

0:38:50 > 0:38:53some lemon and some ginger.

0:38:53 > 0:38:55The spinach, did that come from the field I was in this morning?

0:38:55 > 0:38:57It did, yes, and the kale as well.

0:38:57 > 0:39:00Our other products that you can see here,

0:39:00 > 0:39:02the apples come from Herefordshire,

0:39:02 > 0:39:06the cucumber from Hertfordshire, the lemon and ginger obviously

0:39:06 > 0:39:08we can't grow ourselves in the UK at the moment.

0:39:08 > 0:39:11How long does it take from an ingredient to go

0:39:11 > 0:39:14from the field or being picked to being in a juice?

0:39:14 > 0:39:17It literally can be in the juicery within a few hours.

0:39:17 > 0:39:18Wow, that's fast work.

0:39:18 > 0:39:20- That's fresh!- It is indeed, that's VERY fresh!

0:39:20 > 0:39:22So what are we going to be making today?

0:39:22 > 0:39:25We're going to be making one of our popular green juice recipes.

0:39:25 > 0:39:28OK, Julian, where do I start with making the juice?

0:39:28 > 0:39:30No problem at all. First of all, take the bottle.

0:39:30 > 0:39:33- Yeah.- If you'd like to take the apple juice.

0:39:33 > 0:39:36- So, we start with the apple.- Yeah. - Love that colour, it's gorgeous.

0:39:36 > 0:39:39About one part of that, I'll tell you when.

0:39:39 > 0:39:41OK, I'll just...

0:39:41 > 0:39:43Ooh... Steady hand.

0:39:43 > 0:39:45- That'll do.- Ooh!

0:39:45 > 0:39:47Little fresh cucumber in there.

0:39:48 > 0:39:50- About the same again?- Yeah, perfect.

0:39:50 > 0:39:52OK. I like a bit of spinach in a juice.

0:39:52 > 0:39:54Yes, nice and freshening.

0:39:54 > 0:39:56- That's a good colour again, look at that.- Keep going.

0:39:56 > 0:39:58- That'll do, fantastic.- OK.

0:39:59 > 0:40:04Next in, it's kale, a dash of lime and a little ginger.

0:40:04 > 0:40:05Give that a bit of a shake.

0:40:05 > 0:40:06Then the taste test.

0:40:06 > 0:40:09- Let's see how well I've done.- OK.

0:40:09 > 0:40:12Wow, look at that, what a great colour!

0:40:12 > 0:40:13- Great colour.- Cheers!- Cheers!

0:40:17 > 0:40:18Oh, that is delicious.

0:40:18 > 0:40:21Julian, thank you so much for taking me through the process

0:40:21 > 0:40:24- of making a great juice. - You're very welcome.

0:40:24 > 0:40:25It's great to see a local farm

0:40:25 > 0:40:28reaping the rewards from diversifying,

0:40:28 > 0:40:33and creating produce that's both inventive and commercially viable.

0:40:35 > 0:40:38Elaine and Steve have been searching for that rural lifestyle

0:40:38 > 0:40:41in Shropshire, but I'm not 100% certain even THEY knew

0:40:41 > 0:40:44quite how rural they were willing to go.

0:40:44 > 0:40:46We've shown them three stunning properties

0:40:46 > 0:40:50in very different settings, and I can't wait to find out

0:40:50 > 0:40:52which one is their favourite.

0:40:55 > 0:40:57I'm dying to know where we go from here.

0:40:57 > 0:40:59What's your next move?

0:40:59 > 0:41:02You've shown us three excellent properties,

0:41:02 > 0:41:06and each one has brought some star quality to the table.

0:41:07 > 0:41:11We're quite torn between two of the properties -

0:41:11 > 0:41:13number one and number two.

0:41:14 > 0:41:19But on balance, we felt that number two offers us

0:41:19 > 0:41:22the kind of space that we would like,

0:41:22 > 0:41:27and, subject to looking around the area a bit more,

0:41:27 > 0:41:31we would certainly give that one some further consideration.

0:41:31 > 0:41:34- And make an offer? - Oh, yes, definitely.

0:41:34 > 0:41:39For us it actually provides the accommodation,

0:41:39 > 0:41:43and we could see the lifestyle unfold in that property.

0:41:43 > 0:41:47The house, for us, was perfect in every way.

0:41:47 > 0:41:50The accommodation met our requirements,

0:41:50 > 0:41:54and even the added bonus of an extra bedroom, which is amazing...

0:41:54 > 0:41:57I'm so excited for you!

0:41:57 > 0:42:00You know, we're even more excited about our move.

0:42:00 > 0:42:05We feel more at home now as well, in Shropshire, than ever.

0:42:05 > 0:42:09Well, it's been a joy to explore this gorgeous county with you.

0:42:09 > 0:42:12I'm glad we found you three gorgeous properties to explore

0:42:12 > 0:42:15and, fingers crossed, all being well, moving forward,

0:42:15 > 0:42:17one new home to move into.

0:42:17 > 0:42:20- Let's hope so.- I'm inviting myself to the housewarming!

0:42:21 > 0:42:23- Well, congratulations...- Thank you.

0:42:23 > 0:42:25..and keep in touch and let us know how it goes.

0:42:25 > 0:42:27- And thank you very much. Thank you. - Thanks very much.

0:42:30 > 0:42:32We began our search here in Shropshire

0:42:32 > 0:42:35looking for a home for Elaine, Steve and their hot tub,

0:42:35 > 0:42:38and I'm pleased to say that we've found a property

0:42:38 > 0:42:39that meets all those requirements.

0:42:39 > 0:42:42We wish them all the best with their second viewing.

0:42:42 > 0:42:45I'll see you next time.

0:42:45 > 0:42:48Elaine and Steve did revisit the second property

0:42:48 > 0:42:51and put an offer in on it, which sadly wasn't accepted.

0:42:51 > 0:42:54If you would like to escape to the country

0:42:54 > 0:42:58in Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland or England, and need our help,

0:42:58 > 0:43:00you can apply online at...
