0:00:03 > 0:00:07This Victorian industrial village is a particularly fine example

0:00:07 > 0:00:10of just what can be achieved with enough time,

0:00:10 > 0:00:13enough money and, most importantly, the right vision.

0:00:13 > 0:00:17Find out where I am and whose vision it was in just a moment.

0:00:35 > 0:00:39It's an exciting return to roots for her in today's house-hunt

0:00:39 > 0:00:43that is also an electrifying experience for him...

0:00:43 > 0:00:45I just had a shiver go down my spine.

0:00:45 > 0:00:47A good one, I hope.Yes.

0:00:47 > 0:00:51..and they're both involved in the fun and games of the search.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53Eyes down.OK.

0:00:53 > 0:00:54And now look up.

0:00:56 > 0:00:58Wow!No way!

0:01:01 > 0:01:02Today I'm in Yorkshire

0:01:02 > 0:01:06and this is the West Yorkshire village of Saltaire,

0:01:06 > 0:01:11an outstanding example of a mid-19th century industrial village.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site,

0:01:13 > 0:01:16Saltaire lies on the banks of the River Aire

0:01:16 > 0:01:20and was the brainchild of Sir Titus Salt, a wealthy textile mill owner

0:01:20 > 0:01:25and philanthropist who created this village to provide better living

0:01:25 > 0:01:28and working conditions for his employees.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30He even took them on day trips to the Yorkshire Dales

0:01:30 > 0:01:34to get away from the noise and choking pollution of the mills

0:01:34 > 0:01:37and today, 150 years on,

0:01:37 > 0:01:40the surrounding countryside of this beautiful region

0:01:40 > 0:01:42still provides a welcome escape.

0:01:44 > 0:01:47Historic Yorkshire was once the country's largest county

0:01:47 > 0:01:50but is now divided into four counties.

0:01:50 > 0:01:54The landscape here is often dubbed by the locals as "God's own".

0:01:54 > 0:01:57In the north are the stunning Yorkshire Dales,

0:01:57 > 0:02:00the majority of which form part of a national park.

0:02:00 > 0:02:04Awash with rich, lush valleys and expanses of wild heather,

0:02:04 > 0:02:07the Dales are dissected by a maze of dry-stone walls

0:02:07 > 0:02:10which are archetypal of the region.

0:02:11 > 0:02:14Bordering the Dales National Park in Nidderdale,

0:02:14 > 0:02:19man-made beauty meets nature's own to form the Gouthwaite reservoir,

0:02:19 > 0:02:23a nature reserve built in the 1800s that is now protected

0:02:23 > 0:02:26as a Site Of Specific Scientific Interest.

0:02:26 > 0:02:28Just south of the Dales

0:02:28 > 0:02:32is one of Yorkshire's striking stone-built villages, Bradley.

0:02:32 > 0:02:37Cottages rest on the hillside here, surrounding a mid-19th century mill

0:02:37 > 0:02:42that was remodelled in 2005 and is now used for housing.

0:02:42 > 0:02:45The village is divided into High and Low Bradley,

0:02:45 > 0:02:47and together they make up Bradleys Both

0:02:47 > 0:02:50on the route of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

0:02:50 > 0:02:54So, with its rugged backdrop of breathtaking beauty,

0:02:54 > 0:02:58teamed with towns and villages of architectural interest,

0:02:58 > 0:03:02Yorkshire is an ideal destination to get away

0:03:02 > 0:03:04from the hubbub of city life.

0:03:04 > 0:03:06As well as its beautiful landscapes,

0:03:06 > 0:03:10Yorkshire also has some pretty attractive property prices.

0:03:10 > 0:03:13Detached houses across the four counties in the region

0:03:13 > 0:03:17cost an average of £221,000.

0:03:17 > 0:03:21That's a sizeable 79,000 below the national figure.

0:03:21 > 0:03:25And each of Yorkshire's four counties has its own story to tell.

0:03:25 > 0:03:28You'll find the most expensive properties in the north,

0:03:28 > 0:03:31with not one but two national parks,

0:03:31 > 0:03:33and the most affordable in the south.

0:03:33 > 0:03:37But it's the west part of God's own country that today's buyers

0:03:37 > 0:03:39want to call home. Let's meet them and find out why.

0:03:41 > 0:03:45Retired teachers Carol and Andy from Stoke Golding in Leicestershire

0:03:45 > 0:03:48met as students four decades ago.

0:03:48 > 0:03:53Carol walked through the door on her first night at university

0:03:53 > 0:03:54and I thought, "Ey up!"

0:03:54 > 0:03:59And we got chatting that night but it took us 12 months.

0:03:59 > 0:04:04We were friends to start with and then we started to go...

0:04:04 > 0:04:06In your second year.

0:04:06 > 0:04:08And so, 40 years we've been together.

0:04:08 > 0:04:11BOTH:Married for 35.

0:04:11 > 0:04:13But been together for 40 years.

0:04:13 > 0:04:16And now this long-standing couple have put their working lives

0:04:16 > 0:04:19behind them, they're enjoying precious time with one another.

0:04:19 > 0:04:22This retirement adventure we've just started

0:04:22 > 0:04:24has brought us closer together.

0:04:24 > 0:04:26Now we're able to spend more time together.

0:04:26 > 0:04:27The next phase of our lives, really.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30I'm really enjoying being

0:04:30 > 0:04:34free to do things that we want to do, which is travel,

0:04:34 > 0:04:39spend more time with the family, and hence the move to Yorkshire

0:04:39 > 0:04:42where both our children live

0:04:42 > 0:04:46and their partners and our new granddaughter.

0:04:46 > 0:04:48For Carol, the decision to move to Yorkshire

0:04:48 > 0:04:51is much more than relocating to a new property.

0:04:51 > 0:04:53She's going home.

0:04:53 > 0:04:55I was born in Yorkshire.

0:04:55 > 0:04:59So, we always said that one day we'd return there,

0:04:59 > 0:05:02so we decided that, when we retired,

0:05:02 > 0:05:05we'd move closer to be amongst family.

0:05:05 > 0:05:10And my mum still lives in Yorkshire and my brothers,

0:05:10 > 0:05:13so there's lots of family ties up there.

0:05:14 > 0:05:18For Andy, it's a move away from home, but one he's ready to make.

0:05:20 > 0:05:23I've lived here all my life. I've lived here for 60 years.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26We are slap-bang in the middle of the Midland's Motorway Network,

0:05:26 > 0:05:30which has got its advantages, but not necessarily where we want to be.

0:05:30 > 0:05:34We enjoy walking and outdoor life and Leicestershire has got

0:05:34 > 0:05:37some great countryside, but it's flat, largely.

0:05:37 > 0:05:38But the Dales...

0:05:38 > 0:05:41The Dales are just epically beautiful.

0:05:41 > 0:05:43And we look forward to climbing a few hills.Absolutely.

0:05:43 > 0:05:48We're really looking forward to joining a rambling club when

0:05:48 > 0:05:53we move up to Yorkshire, because we walk nearly every day,

0:05:53 > 0:05:54it keeps us fit.

0:05:54 > 0:05:57We see it as a way of meeting people as well,

0:05:57 > 0:06:01as a sort of a social thing. So it's important from that point of view.

0:06:01 > 0:06:03And with their house on the market,

0:06:03 > 0:06:06it won't be long before they can make the most of the great outdoors.

0:06:08 > 0:06:12I'm really, really looking forward to opening my curtains

0:06:12 > 0:06:16in the morning and thinking, "Wow, this is nice."

0:06:16 > 0:06:22That would be good. Dry-stone walls, sheep in fields, hills, Dales,

0:06:22 > 0:06:24snug little cottages.

0:06:24 > 0:06:27First morning, waking up, I won't be able to believe it,

0:06:27 > 0:06:30that I've actually finally come home.

0:06:30 > 0:06:32It will be exciting, it will be really good.

0:06:32 > 0:06:35Let's get this thing started, let's get it on the road

0:06:35 > 0:06:39and let's just get on with it.

0:06:39 > 0:06:40Can't wait. I can't wait.

0:06:44 > 0:06:47Carol and Andy are moving to be closer to their son

0:06:47 > 0:06:50in Knaresborough and daughter in Saltaire,

0:06:50 > 0:06:53so we're keeping that in mind as we carry out our search.

0:06:53 > 0:06:56And before we get going on our Yorkshire trip,

0:06:56 > 0:06:59I'm meeting them to get the lowdown on their property wish list.

0:07:00 > 0:07:03Welcome to Yorkshire, Carol and Andy.Thank you.

0:07:03 > 0:07:05Let's talk about the type of property you're after.

0:07:05 > 0:07:08What do you want it to look like from the outside?

0:07:08 > 0:07:10What sort of setting do you want it to be in?

0:07:11 > 0:07:14We probably need some facilities around us,

0:07:14 > 0:07:16so a large village, small town.

0:07:18 > 0:07:19Not near a main road.

0:07:19 > 0:07:21Quite open.

0:07:21 > 0:07:26It could be an old property, pretty.

0:07:26 > 0:07:27We like contemporary as well.

0:07:27 > 0:07:29We're very open to any...

0:07:29 > 0:07:32Absolutely. Just looking forward to what we see today.

0:07:32 > 0:07:34Let's go inside your new home. Right.

0:07:34 > 0:07:36What do you want it to look like?

0:07:36 > 0:07:42The main thing I would really like is a large kitchen/diner...

0:07:42 > 0:07:45in preference to a separate dining room.

0:07:45 > 0:07:48But if you show us something with a separate dining room,

0:07:48 > 0:07:50that doesn't matter either.

0:07:50 > 0:07:53I love traditional wood panelling, but Carol's not so keen.

0:07:53 > 0:07:58I like light, airy houses, not dark.

0:07:58 > 0:08:00And remind me of your budget.

0:08:00 > 0:08:06450 maximum, but for 450, there has to be absolutely nothing to do.

0:08:06 > 0:08:10Well, we have three fantastic properties lined up for you,

0:08:10 > 0:08:12so let's head off. OK, thank you.Really excited.

0:08:14 > 0:08:17For their top budget of £450,000,

0:08:17 > 0:08:20Carol and Andy would like a character property,

0:08:20 > 0:08:24but they're open-minded about the exact style of house they want.

0:08:24 > 0:08:26Ideally it would have a large kitchen/diner

0:08:26 > 0:08:28and three to four bedrooms,

0:08:28 > 0:08:31and outside, it's a manageable garden they're after,

0:08:31 > 0:08:35all in a location that's close to amenities.

0:08:35 > 0:08:38We've tracked down a fabulous selection of properties

0:08:38 > 0:08:41for them to view, but each one's price will only be revealed

0:08:41 > 0:08:43after they've completed the tour.

0:08:43 > 0:08:47And their final visit to the Mystery House could see them taking

0:08:47 > 0:08:48another trip down the aisle.

0:08:54 > 0:08:58We're starting off our property search in the North Yorkshire

0:08:58 > 0:09:00village of Sutton-in-Craven.

0:09:00 > 0:09:01Located in the Aire Valley,

0:09:01 > 0:09:06this picturesque village sits in the shadow of hills and farmland,

0:09:06 > 0:09:08with a stream running through it.

0:09:08 > 0:09:11There's a history of corn-milling and textiles here

0:09:11 > 0:09:15and buildings display the sandstone Yorkshire is famous for,

0:09:15 > 0:09:18showcased in an old mill, now apartments.

0:09:18 > 0:09:22Locals are served by a village hall, a handful of shops and a pub.

0:09:22 > 0:09:24And, sitting above the village,

0:09:24 > 0:09:26surrounded by a wealth of countryside walks,

0:09:26 > 0:09:28we find our first property.

0:09:30 > 0:09:32Bit different to what I was expecting.

0:09:32 > 0:09:36Not what you were expecting. Not detached. It's not detached.

0:09:36 > 0:09:41This whole building is a 400-year-old barn.

0:09:41 > 0:09:46In the 1990s, it was converted into accommodation for people rather

0:09:46 > 0:09:48than animals. And the house that we're looking at

0:09:48 > 0:09:50is the middle house.

0:09:50 > 0:09:52Right. What a location.

0:09:52 > 0:09:55Yes, stunning. On top of a hill, on top of the moor.

0:09:55 > 0:09:56Looking forward to looking inside it now.

0:09:58 > 0:10:01Shall we head on in?Can't wait. Thank you.

0:10:03 > 0:10:06This property's position in the centre of the barn conversion

0:10:06 > 0:10:09means it benefits from having the original barn entrance.

0:10:09 > 0:10:11This takes us into a roomy hallway

0:10:11 > 0:10:14which leads into an open-plan dining hall

0:10:14 > 0:10:16with an impressive vaulted ceiling.

0:10:18 > 0:10:21Wow! Look at that view.

0:10:21 > 0:10:23You can't miss it, can you?

0:10:23 > 0:10:25It was the first thing you see as you walk through the door.

0:10:25 > 0:10:28And it's really open, isn't it?

0:10:28 > 0:10:30Log-burning stove.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33Got a lovely stone fireplace, so that's the sort of winter area,

0:10:33 > 0:10:36I think, and then this is the sort of summer area, in a way.

0:10:36 > 0:10:38Social space.Yeah, absolutely.

0:10:38 > 0:10:40Really like it.

0:10:40 > 0:10:42Great.Can't wait to see more.

0:10:42 > 0:10:44Let's go to the kitchen.

0:10:48 > 0:10:49Oh.

0:10:49 > 0:10:51That's different. Yeah.It is.

0:10:51 > 0:10:54Different...Such a contrast to the outside of the property.

0:10:54 > 0:10:57Yes, it's so modern, isn't it? Super modern.

0:10:57 > 0:10:58Really sleek.

0:10:58 > 0:11:03It is smaller than I was expecting from when we were out there,

0:11:03 > 0:11:06but you've got your dining room there.

0:11:06 > 0:11:08But with the rest of the downstairs being so open,

0:11:08 > 0:11:10it's not so much of a problem, really.

0:11:10 > 0:11:13No.So it's something you could work with?

0:11:13 > 0:11:15Absolutely.Yeah.It's super.

0:11:15 > 0:11:18Well, let's go and have a look where you might be sleeping.

0:11:18 > 0:11:19OK. Thank you.

0:11:22 > 0:11:25Also on the deceptively large ground floor,

0:11:25 > 0:11:29there's a room currently used for music and a shower room.

0:11:29 > 0:11:31Then upstairs, there's a galleried landing,

0:11:31 > 0:11:35another smart shower room and three bedrooms -

0:11:35 > 0:11:36a snug double,

0:11:36 > 0:11:39a single with fitted wardrobes,

0:11:39 > 0:11:41and lastly, there's the master.

0:11:43 > 0:11:45It's a good size.Oh, it's huge.

0:11:47 > 0:11:48Wow.It really is a master suite

0:11:48 > 0:11:51because you've got this lovely bathroom.

0:11:51 > 0:11:53I really like the bathroom, too.

0:11:53 > 0:11:57The more we see of the property, the more it seems to grow,

0:11:57 > 0:11:59from the outside.Yes! It is really deceiving.

0:11:59 > 0:12:01Now we're in, it's like, oh!

0:12:02 > 0:12:04I really like what I've seen so far.

0:12:04 > 0:12:07Great.Can we see more? Yes, let's go back outside,

0:12:07 > 0:12:11because I think you'll see it with different eyes now, won't you?

0:12:11 > 0:12:13Yes. Definitely. Absolutely. Thank you.

0:12:15 > 0:12:19The property benefits from a terrace complete with pond,

0:12:19 > 0:12:21but before we discuss the price,

0:12:21 > 0:12:24we're taking a moment to enjoy the main highlight here,

0:12:24 > 0:12:26which is absolutely priceless.

0:12:31 > 0:12:33I do hope this view is to your liking.

0:12:33 > 0:12:35It's spectacular. How could it not be?

0:12:35 > 0:12:40This would be ideal, really, and because you've got this view beyond,

0:12:40 > 0:12:42you don't need a big garden,

0:12:42 > 0:12:45because the whole of it is like your garden, isn't it?

0:12:45 > 0:12:47It is, and as a person who would be doing the work,

0:12:47 > 0:12:50the smaller the better, to be fair.

0:12:50 > 0:12:53There's somewhere to put some chairs, somewhere to put a table,

0:12:53 > 0:12:57somewhere to sit and very little work, so absolutely spot-on.

0:12:57 > 0:12:58It's time to guess the price.

0:12:58 > 0:13:00Who'd like to go first?

0:13:00 > 0:13:03I think you should.OK.

0:13:03 > 0:13:07I think...425.

0:13:07 > 0:13:10OK, and I'm going to go for a cheeky 375.

0:13:10 > 0:13:12Andy, you are closer.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14Excellent.And you're in luck.

0:13:14 > 0:13:18It's actually on the market for £335,000.

0:13:18 > 0:13:21Oh, wow!No way. I just had a shiver go down my spine.

0:13:21 > 0:13:23A good one, I hope!Yes!

0:13:23 > 0:13:27That's really good.Right, OK, that's a game-changer.

0:13:27 > 0:13:28That is a surprise.

0:13:28 > 0:13:31Go and have another look around while I enjoy the view

0:13:31 > 0:13:33and then I'll meet you out the front.Thank you.

0:13:39 > 0:13:45This 400-year-old barn conversion has rung in at £115,000 under

0:13:45 > 0:13:47Carol and Andy's top budget.

0:13:47 > 0:13:50There is a fantastic open-plan living area

0:13:50 > 0:13:53plus the option to have four bedrooms and the views

0:13:53 > 0:13:55from the garden are simply breathtaking.

0:13:57 > 0:13:59Another little room. It's not so small.

0:13:59 > 0:14:04It's an ideal potential bedroom, and a separate entrance just there.

0:14:04 > 0:14:07I could really see myself living here.

0:14:08 > 0:14:11I know it's in the middle of the countryside,

0:14:11 > 0:14:16it's more remote than perhaps I had in mind initially.

0:14:16 > 0:14:20We both like walking and just looking out of that window would

0:14:20 > 0:14:23make me want to go for a walk every single day.

0:14:23 > 0:14:25As soon as I entered the property,

0:14:25 > 0:14:29the only thing that catches your eye when you walk through the door

0:14:29 > 0:14:33is that wall of glass and the view beyond.

0:14:33 > 0:14:36If you were to say, what three things would you notice

0:14:36 > 0:14:40when you walked in the room, I'd say view, view and view.

0:14:43 > 0:14:44Look at that smile.

0:14:44 > 0:14:46Yes.You really do love the house, don't you?

0:14:46 > 0:14:48I do, I really love it, yes.

0:14:48 > 0:14:51It was such a surprise when we walked through the door.

0:14:51 > 0:14:54It's lovely.And the price is absolutely spot-on.

0:14:54 > 0:14:58I almost feel guilty for taking you to see another house.

0:14:58 > 0:15:00Almost, but not quite.

0:15:00 > 0:15:02Let's go.OK. Thank you.

0:15:10 > 0:15:12In the heart of the Yorkshire Dales

0:15:12 > 0:15:15is the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

0:15:15 > 0:15:18Covering 233 square miles,

0:15:18 > 0:15:21its stunning scenery makes it immensely popular

0:15:21 > 0:15:25with visitors wishing to take in the countryside by foot.

0:15:25 > 0:15:28As Carol and Andy are keen to join a rambling group

0:15:28 > 0:15:29when they make their move,

0:15:29 > 0:15:32they've come to meet Richard Hersey and fellow members of

0:15:32 > 0:15:36the Harrogate Ramblers Club, who are gathering to start their walk

0:15:36 > 0:15:39from the quaint market town of Pateley Bridge.

0:15:39 > 0:15:42Well, Harrogate Ramblers - we have about 300 members

0:15:42 > 0:15:44and we organise a walk on every Saturday,

0:15:44 > 0:15:47and then we have a walk between 8 and 12 miles.

0:15:47 > 0:15:49And where are we walking to today?

0:15:49 > 0:15:51Today we are walking from Pateley to Brimham Rocks.

0:15:51 > 0:15:54Right.Is it a strenuous walk or...?

0:15:54 > 0:15:56The first bit is uphill.Oh, right.

0:15:56 > 0:16:00Quite steep. We come from quite a flat area at the moment in

0:16:00 > 0:16:05Leicestershire, so a few hills will be a bit of a challenge for us.

0:16:05 > 0:16:07You'll be using some different muscles.

0:16:07 > 0:16:12The backs of your calves might be having a new experience.

0:16:12 > 0:16:15From start to finish, the route covers around nine miles,

0:16:15 > 0:16:18and today they're taking in a few of its highlights -

0:16:18 > 0:16:22a perfect introduction to the highs and lows of the Dales.

0:16:22 > 0:16:24And as well as strenuous exercise,

0:16:24 > 0:16:28it's a great chance to socialise, as some of the club members

0:16:28 > 0:16:31are joining them for part of the journey.

0:16:31 > 0:16:33Pateley Bridge is a great place to start.

0:16:33 > 0:16:36It's the beginning and end point of the Nidderdale Way,

0:16:36 > 0:16:41a circular route covering 53 miles through the Dales.

0:16:41 > 0:16:43First stop for them all on today's jaunt

0:16:43 > 0:16:45is St Mary's Church of Pateley Bridge.

0:16:47 > 0:16:49Lovely old place, isn't it?

0:16:49 > 0:16:51It is. It's gorgeous.

0:16:51 > 0:16:54There's been a church here since about the 1300s.

0:16:54 > 0:16:58About the end of the 1700s, it was falling into some disrepair,

0:16:58 > 0:17:00and also the parishioners were finding it very difficult walking up

0:17:00 > 0:17:02the steep hill that we've just walked.I'd agree with that.

0:17:02 > 0:17:05But it's lovely, it has what's called a devil's door over there,

0:17:05 > 0:17:08where the devil was supposed to leave when there was a baptism.

0:17:08 > 0:17:10We'll be leaving now through the priest's door.

0:17:10 > 0:17:12The rest of the Harrogate group

0:17:12 > 0:17:13are going to carry on back down to Pateley,

0:17:13 > 0:17:15but we will carry on to Brimham Rocks.

0:17:15 > 0:17:19OK. Thank you.Bye.See you, then. Good luck with the house-hunting.

0:17:19 > 0:17:20Thanks! Bye.

0:17:21 > 0:17:26The Ramblers is a nationwide charity with over 100,000 members.

0:17:26 > 0:17:30It was established in 1935 after groups campaigned for people

0:17:30 > 0:17:33to have access to the countryside.

0:17:33 > 0:17:36And it put pressure on landowners to allow ordinary folk

0:17:36 > 0:17:38to walk across their land.

0:17:38 > 0:17:42Today its goal is still to protect access

0:17:42 > 0:17:44to the great outdoors by foot.

0:17:44 > 0:17:46Wow. What a gorgeous view.

0:17:46 > 0:17:48Yes, what it is, it's the Nidd Valley,

0:17:48 > 0:17:51so you've got the River Nidd in the bottom here.

0:17:51 > 0:17:55Harrogate is away over that way and then you can also walk further up

0:17:55 > 0:17:59the valley. This part here is just part of the Nidderdale Way.

0:17:59 > 0:18:03It's gorgeous. Can't wait to be able to do all the walks.

0:18:03 > 0:18:06Next stop is Brimham Rocks,

0:18:06 > 0:18:09a collection of unusual eye-catching rock formations

0:18:09 > 0:18:12scattered across 50 acres of moor.

0:18:12 > 0:18:15Wow, Richard, what an amazing place this is.

0:18:15 > 0:18:16I know, it's a kind of millstone grate.

0:18:16 > 0:18:19It was formed about 320 million years ago.

0:18:19 > 0:18:21Laid down in layers.

0:18:21 > 0:18:24The reason that they're undercut so much is because we had an ice age

0:18:24 > 0:18:26which lasted tens of thousands of years.

0:18:26 > 0:18:30About 15,000 years ago, this valley here was full of ice,

0:18:30 > 0:18:36but these rocks were sticking up, just proud of the glacial ice.

0:18:36 > 0:18:40And then you got pebbles and other things, sand, being blown across

0:18:40 > 0:18:43by the Arctic winds, which have undercut this rock

0:18:43 > 0:18:46and have also taken out some of the softer areas

0:18:46 > 0:18:48of the sandstone you can see higher up.

0:18:48 > 0:18:51It looks like you could almost push it over,

0:18:51 > 0:18:53balancing on that smaller rock at the bottom.

0:18:53 > 0:18:55But it weighs 180 tonnes.

0:18:55 > 0:18:58I don't know how they worked that out, but that's what they say.

0:18:58 > 0:19:00And just a little further down the path,

0:19:00 > 0:19:04the rocks can truly be appreciated in all their glory -

0:19:04 > 0:19:05even through a spot of rain.

0:19:07 > 0:19:10Well, Richard, this really is an absolutely amazing place.

0:19:10 > 0:19:12Thank you very much for bringing us here today.

0:19:12 > 0:19:14It does say on the information board here

0:19:14 > 0:19:15that we can see York Minster on a clear day.

0:19:15 > 0:19:18We've lost that, I'm afraid, now, but it is a spectacular place.

0:19:18 > 0:19:21I hope you will come back and have a look at it again...Definitely.

0:19:21 > 0:19:24..when the sun's out.But thanks, we've really enjoyed it.

0:19:24 > 0:19:26Good, I'm glad you've had a good day.Yes, thank you.

0:19:27 > 0:19:30Now it's time to ramble back to our house-hunt.

0:19:38 > 0:19:41Our next property stop takes us into West Yorkshire,

0:19:41 > 0:19:43to the village of Wilsden.

0:19:43 > 0:19:46Perched on the hillside and rolling down into the valley,

0:19:46 > 0:19:50Wilsden paints a picture of a classic Yorkshire landscape.

0:19:50 > 0:19:51Surrounded by farmland,

0:19:51 > 0:19:55there's evidence of the mills of yesteryear on the horizon.

0:19:55 > 0:19:58There's also a church here, a small choice of shops,

0:19:58 > 0:20:01a pub, and there are plenty of country walks on offer

0:20:01 > 0:20:05with beautiful scenery at every twist and turn.

0:20:05 > 0:20:07And just on the edge of the village is our second house.

0:20:10 > 0:20:12Very pretty.

0:20:12 > 0:20:13Very, very pretty.

0:20:13 > 0:20:15Isn't it just?How sweet.

0:20:15 > 0:20:18Yes.This is also a barn conversion.

0:20:18 > 0:20:24Right.So it dates back to 1750 and it was converted into a home

0:20:24 > 0:20:27in the 1970s.

0:20:27 > 0:20:29Right.But again, you've got brilliant views.

0:20:29 > 0:20:32It is.It is.The other thing to mention is, of course,

0:20:32 > 0:20:35that it is attached on one side. It is, yes, however... That doesn't daunt you any more.

0:20:35 > 0:20:38..I may have learned my lesson from the previous property.

0:20:38 > 0:20:41You're over that now. Over that, yes. Not a problem.

0:20:41 > 0:20:43Absolutely. Well, let's get inside, then.

0:20:43 > 0:20:44OK, thank you.

0:20:45 > 0:20:49This attractive stone barn was originally the milking parlour

0:20:49 > 0:20:52for the local farm and we're beginning our tour of it

0:20:52 > 0:20:55in the rather grand and lofty entrance hall.

0:20:57 > 0:21:00I thought we should stop in this hallway

0:21:00 > 0:21:04because they've made a really nice feature of the entrance, I think.

0:21:04 > 0:21:07How many houses can you buy where you can put a sofa in the hallway?

0:21:07 > 0:21:11Exactly, it's quite hotel-like, isn't it?

0:21:11 > 0:21:12I can't wait to see more.

0:21:12 > 0:21:14Let me show you the lounge. OK, thank you.

0:21:17 > 0:21:19How's this for a sitting room?

0:21:19 > 0:21:21Wow, it's a good size.

0:21:21 > 0:21:23With this fireplace as the feature.

0:21:23 > 0:21:26Really striking. Very grand, as well.

0:21:26 > 0:21:30Nice and central, and dual aspect.

0:21:30 > 0:21:32Excellent.It doesn't feel hugely barnlike.

0:21:32 > 0:21:35It feels really cosy and comfy.

0:21:35 > 0:21:38Warm.Warm.Inviting.Yes.

0:21:38 > 0:21:41Homely.The other thing about this house, it really does flow nicely.

0:21:41 > 0:21:44OK.So let me take you through the dining room.

0:21:44 > 0:21:46Yes, please.Lovely.

0:21:52 > 0:21:54Right. This is a killer kitchen.

0:21:54 > 0:21:57It's so light, isn't it? And spacious.

0:21:57 > 0:22:00I can imagine, you know, while we're cooking,

0:22:00 > 0:22:04having the family round all sitting together and, yes, really...

0:22:04 > 0:22:06Very social space.

0:22:06 > 0:22:10And I like the sink, the position of the sink, as well.

0:22:10 > 0:22:13It's quite unusual, isn't it, being there?It is, actually.

0:22:13 > 0:22:17Well, you know, eating dinner, you can be at the sink, washing up.

0:22:17 > 0:22:21My life, then. After he's served you.Yes!

0:22:21 > 0:22:24Shall I show you where he's going to be serving you breakfast in bed?

0:22:24 > 0:22:25Good idea.

0:22:29 > 0:22:31Just off the kitchen, there's a utility room

0:22:31 > 0:22:35and then moving upstairs, there's a fully tiled bathroom

0:22:35 > 0:22:37and three bedrooms all in the eaves.

0:22:37 > 0:22:41At the back, there's a bright double and a single which currently serves

0:22:41 > 0:22:42as a study.

0:22:42 > 0:22:45Then at the front of the house is the master.

0:22:45 > 0:22:48Good size.Very good size.

0:22:48 > 0:22:52It's lovely.Actually, it comes with its own dressing room...

0:22:52 > 0:22:53Right.

0:22:53 > 0:22:55I guess for some families, it would be a nursery,

0:22:55 > 0:22:58but it's a lovely dressing room and there's an en-suite.

0:22:58 > 0:23:01I really like the windows and look at the little windows at the bottom,

0:23:01 > 0:23:04as well.They're really sweet, aren't they?

0:23:04 > 0:23:07They are. You could lie in bed and look up.

0:23:07 > 0:23:09They've got their own little doors on.

0:23:09 > 0:23:10Let's head back outside

0:23:10 > 0:23:13and talk about how much this might set you back.

0:23:13 > 0:23:14OK.Do you want to lead the way?

0:23:14 > 0:23:15I will.Thank you.

0:23:17 > 0:23:20The split-level garden includes a lush lawn

0:23:20 > 0:23:24surrounded by mature trees and hedges, a walled pond,

0:23:24 > 0:23:27pebbled seating area and pretty flower beds,

0:23:27 > 0:23:29all with panoramic views.

0:23:31 > 0:23:33So, with this property, there's no front and back garden.

0:23:33 > 0:23:36This is everything.Right.Front entrance, back entrance, everything,

0:23:36 > 0:23:39because this is the south-facing bit.Yes.It's still quite private,

0:23:39 > 0:23:41though, isn't it? You're not really overlooked.

0:23:42 > 0:23:45It's so quiet. But you can do some overlooking.

0:23:45 > 0:23:48I mean, the view down there is fabulous.I know, it's amazing.

0:23:48 > 0:23:49A lovely landscape.

0:23:49 > 0:23:52Yes.His and her sheds.

0:23:52 > 0:23:56His shed, more.Well, there are two, so, there really is one each

0:23:56 > 0:23:59or you can have two.Right.So we need to discuss price, don't we?

0:23:59 > 0:24:02We do.How much is this property on the market for?

0:24:02 > 0:24:04I'll go first, this time.

0:24:04 > 0:24:06OK.I'm going to go for 445.

0:24:08 > 0:24:10Right, well, I overestimated last time,

0:24:10 > 0:24:16so I'm going to go lower and I'm going to say 425.

0:24:16 > 0:24:20OK. Again, Andy is closer

0:24:20 > 0:24:22and I've done what you've asked.

0:24:22 > 0:24:26I've used up your whole budget because there is nothing to do.

0:24:26 > 0:24:30Nothing to do.So it's on the market for £450,000.

0:24:30 > 0:24:33So now that you know the price, have another look around and discuss

0:24:33 > 0:24:36whether you want to use your whole budget.OK.

0:24:36 > 0:24:39And I'll meet you in a bit. Thank you.Brilliant, thank you.

0:24:42 > 0:24:46This converted barn, thought to date back to the 17th century,

0:24:46 > 0:24:49is priced at the top of Carol and Andy's budget.

0:24:49 > 0:24:53It gives them both character on the outside and style on the inside,

0:24:53 > 0:24:58including a fabulous open-plan kitchen/diner and three bedrooms.

0:24:58 > 0:25:02The garden is a good but manageable size and the views are stunning.

0:25:06 > 0:25:08They've got this as an office,

0:25:08 > 0:25:10but I guess we could have it as a third bedroom.

0:25:10 > 0:25:12Yeah, make a really good-sized single room.

0:25:12 > 0:25:16You could probably get a double bed in here.

0:25:16 > 0:25:20Certainly in the future, I can see Carol and I and family in here

0:25:20 > 0:25:23just enjoying the space, enjoying each other's company.

0:25:23 > 0:25:27When we walk into a property, Carol and I know fairly quickly

0:25:27 > 0:25:28if it's going to be a place for us

0:25:28 > 0:25:31and we got that feeling straightaway.

0:25:31 > 0:25:33This house is definitely calling out to us.

0:25:33 > 0:25:36Yes, we really like it.

0:25:36 > 0:25:39The views here, the hallway as you come in

0:25:39 > 0:25:42and looking out with that lovely glass door

0:25:42 > 0:25:47overlooking all the beautiful dales, it's gorgeous.

0:25:47 > 0:25:50I think it's been quite a successful day.

0:25:50 > 0:25:53It has.It has. Two, although similar properties,

0:25:53 > 0:25:56but actually both with different things to offer.

0:25:56 > 0:25:59Really, really interesting and quite thought-provoking as well.

0:25:59 > 0:26:02Shall we go mull over things with a glass of something?

0:26:02 > 0:26:04Sounds like a plan to me.

0:26:15 > 0:26:19It's day two of our Yorkshire road trip, searching out a rural retreat

0:26:19 > 0:26:22so that Carol and Andy from Leicestershire

0:26:22 > 0:26:28can live closer to family, and with a top budget of £450,000 to spend,

0:26:28 > 0:26:31we've already shown them two characterful properties,

0:26:31 > 0:26:34but all their prayers could be answered with our Mystery House.

0:26:34 > 0:26:36I can't think of anything to say.

0:26:36 > 0:26:38It's just absolutely stunning.

0:26:38 > 0:26:40You are quite speechless.

0:26:40 > 0:26:41THEY LAUGH

0:26:41 > 0:26:43And later, I'll be finding out how

0:26:43 > 0:26:46Iceland meets Yorkshire in the Dales.

0:26:47 > 0:26:50There's something very satisfying about this.

0:26:53 > 0:26:56Andy and Carol were certainly expressing enthusiasm

0:26:56 > 0:27:00for both of our properties yesterday, with house number two

0:27:00 > 0:27:03quickly surpassing house number one in their minds.

0:27:03 > 0:27:06But I do feel they are holding back a little bit

0:27:06 > 0:27:09and I can't quite put my finger on why,

0:27:09 > 0:27:13but I'm hoping our Mystery House and its location will convert them from

0:27:13 > 0:27:15being cautious, into candid.

0:27:19 > 0:27:23What do you think I have up my sleeve for the Mystery?

0:27:23 > 0:27:29Well, I think it could be something like an apartment.

0:27:29 > 0:27:32And I think it's a new-build.

0:27:32 > 0:27:36You think I'm going to go right away from barn conversion?

0:27:36 > 0:27:39Yes.There were two barn conversions yesterday.

0:27:39 > 0:27:41I am hoping you are going to stir the pot, a bit,

0:27:41 > 0:27:42see what comes up this time.

0:27:42 > 0:27:45But you liked them both so much.

0:27:45 > 0:27:49We did. That's absolutely correct, but it is the Mystery property.

0:27:53 > 0:27:55For our third and final property stop,

0:27:55 > 0:27:58we're off to the market town of Sowerby Bridge.

0:27:58 > 0:28:00Just over ten minutes away

0:28:00 > 0:28:04is the attractive market town of Hebden Bridge

0:28:04 > 0:28:06which lies on the Rochdale Canal.

0:28:06 > 0:28:09There were many water-powered weaving mills here

0:28:09 > 0:28:12in the 19th and 20th centuries, and at one time,

0:28:12 > 0:28:14Hebden was known as "Trouser Town"

0:28:14 > 0:28:18because of the abundance of clothing manufacturers here.

0:28:18 > 0:28:22Today, they're still evidence of the town's industrial past along with

0:28:22 > 0:28:25more up-to-date independent shops and eateries.

0:28:25 > 0:28:29The area is popular for walking and cycling, and in recent years,

0:28:29 > 0:28:33the Tour de France passed through it on its way from York to Sheffield.

0:28:33 > 0:28:35I've brought Carol and Andy to the waterside

0:28:35 > 0:28:38to see what they could have at their disposal.

0:28:40 > 0:28:45There's a connection between Hebden Bridge and the Mystery House because

0:28:45 > 0:28:48a couple of the architects that were involved in the Mystery House

0:28:48 > 0:28:51also were involved in the building of the bridge.

0:28:51 > 0:28:53That's intriguing.Yes.

0:28:53 > 0:28:56So, there is a nice link, but I thought we could have a walk around...

0:28:56 > 0:28:58Yes!Yes...and then drive the 10 or 15 minutes

0:28:58 > 0:29:01over to the Mystery House. OK, great.Thank you.

0:29:03 > 0:29:08In Sowerby Bridge, we find our rather outstanding Mystery House,

0:29:08 > 0:29:13and it's so unique that I want it to be a true surprise for our buyers.

0:29:13 > 0:29:14Right, eyes down.

0:29:14 > 0:29:17OK.And now look up.

0:29:19 > 0:29:20Wow.No way.

0:29:20 > 0:29:22That's a very imposing building.

0:29:22 > 0:29:25I'm sticking with the conversion theme...

0:29:25 > 0:29:27Right...but it's not a barn conversion, of course,.

0:29:27 > 0:29:30It actually was a Methodist chapel.

0:29:30 > 0:29:32OK.At the moment, it's two houses,

0:29:32 > 0:29:35so the whole of the right-hand side is on offer.

0:29:35 > 0:29:37OK.That's big.

0:29:37 > 0:29:40How would you feel about living in a converted chapel.

0:29:40 > 0:29:41Majestic?

0:29:44 > 0:29:46Especially with those views.

0:29:46 > 0:29:50Absolutely and you can see from the height of the home,

0:29:50 > 0:29:52the views that you would have.

0:29:52 > 0:29:54Yes. Just looks fantastic.

0:29:54 > 0:29:56Let's go in.OK, thank you.

0:29:56 > 0:30:02This magnificent Mystery House built from Yorkshire stone in 1822

0:30:02 > 0:30:06speaks for itself. The chapel was rebuilt in 1897,

0:30:06 > 0:30:09influenced by French Renaissance style,

0:30:09 > 0:30:13but it's conical towers are Arts and Crafts in design.

0:30:13 > 0:30:16It closed its doors as a place of worship in 1979

0:30:16 > 0:30:18and was later converted

0:30:18 > 0:30:20into two homes.

0:30:20 > 0:30:22The interior is a complete contrast

0:30:22 > 0:30:25to the outside and is currently vacant.

0:30:25 > 0:30:30Now, to make the most of those glorious panoramic views outside,

0:30:30 > 0:30:33the house has been designed upside-down, really.

0:30:33 > 0:30:36This would be your master and in the turret,

0:30:36 > 0:30:37you've got that beautiful

0:30:37 > 0:30:40circular room that you can turn into anything, really.

0:30:40 > 0:30:43Yeah.Could have the world's biggest walk-in wardrobe.

0:30:43 > 0:30:45How do you feel about upside-down living?

0:30:45 > 0:30:48Fine.We like something a bit quirky.

0:30:48 > 0:30:50Let's go.More.More, please.

0:30:54 > 0:30:57Also on the ground floor are a further two bedrooms,

0:30:57 > 0:30:59one double and a single.

0:30:59 > 0:31:02They are both served by a fully tiled bathroom.

0:31:02 > 0:31:05This is actually a three-storey property

0:31:05 > 0:31:07and there is another bedroom found up in the eaves

0:31:07 > 0:31:11on the second floor and all the bedrooms sandwich the first floor

0:31:11 > 0:31:15where we find the living quarters, featuring a huge sitting room

0:31:15 > 0:31:19which is overlooked by a galleried mezzanine level.

0:31:19 > 0:31:21How is this for a living room?

0:31:23 > 0:31:25Spectacular?

0:31:25 > 0:31:27I'm just speechless.

0:31:27 > 0:31:28HE LAUGHS

0:31:28 > 0:31:31That's one of my favourite areas, over there.

0:31:31 > 0:31:33You can see the sun streaming through this all the time.

0:31:33 > 0:31:36Sun trap. Shall we go and have a look inside?

0:31:37 > 0:31:41Next door is another circular room with a decorative solid-wood floor,

0:31:41 > 0:31:45an amazing outlook and timber-panelled walls,

0:31:45 > 0:31:47something that was on Andy's wish list.

0:31:47 > 0:31:50I think I'd spend all day sitting in here.

0:31:50 > 0:31:51I can't think of anything to say.

0:31:51 > 0:31:53It's just absolutely stunning.

0:31:53 > 0:31:54You are quite speechless.

0:31:54 > 0:31:58For once.For once, yes.

0:31:58 > 0:32:01The thing that neither of you have mentioned so far is the kitchen,

0:32:01 > 0:32:03which is so important to you.

0:32:03 > 0:32:06Should I show you that or should we just put an offer in already?

0:32:06 > 0:32:09We'd better have a look. All right. Just to be polite.

0:32:11 > 0:32:15Back through the main reception room and up on the mezzanine level

0:32:15 > 0:32:19is a shower room, but on this floor, there is an ultra-modern bathroom

0:32:19 > 0:32:22and then at the other end of the expansive living room

0:32:22 > 0:32:25is a smart and contemporary kitchen.

0:32:25 > 0:32:29It looks small compared to the rest of the rooms we've visited,

0:32:29 > 0:32:33however, it's actually a very useful and... It's a big kitchen!

0:32:33 > 0:32:35There's loads of cupboards.

0:32:35 > 0:32:39It's all there.Yes, I like it.

0:32:39 > 0:32:41OK. Shall we go and enjoy more of the view outside?

0:32:41 > 0:32:43Thank you.

0:32:45 > 0:32:48Outside, there's a balcony on the first floor

0:32:48 > 0:32:52and a raised deck terrace overlooks the landscaped gardens.

0:32:52 > 0:32:56Next door are reminders of the house's former life as a chapel.

0:32:57 > 0:33:00It's been all about the views the past couple of days.

0:33:00 > 0:33:02Certainly has.This one...

0:33:02 > 0:33:03Just continues the theme.

0:33:03 > 0:33:05It's just spectacular.

0:33:05 > 0:33:08If you were to go for it, how much would it cost?

0:33:08 > 0:33:13I think once again, you've pushed the budget and possibly even more.

0:33:13 > 0:33:16I think 465.OK.

0:33:18 > 0:33:21I'm going to say 399.

0:33:21 > 0:33:23Oh, gosh. We are bang on budget, again.

0:33:23 > 0:33:29It's on the market for £450,000, so it would be your entire budget.

0:33:29 > 0:33:32That's absolutely understandable, as well. It's huge.

0:33:32 > 0:33:34It is.And a one-off.

0:33:34 > 0:33:37Yes. It's really unique. Now that you know the price,

0:33:37 > 0:33:41have another look around and I shall come and see you.

0:33:41 > 0:33:43OK.All right.Thank you. See you in a bit.

0:33:46 > 0:33:50Our Mystery House is priced right at the top of Carol and Andy's budget

0:33:50 > 0:33:54but it offers them something quite exceptional.

0:33:54 > 0:33:57It's got undeniable character outside with a spacious,

0:33:57 > 0:34:02contemporary interior and four bedrooms, plus in the pretty garden,

0:34:02 > 0:34:06there are views galore from every aspect.

0:34:06 > 0:34:09When we pulled up and we were allowed to look at the property,

0:34:09 > 0:34:13I thought, "Wow. It looks like a castle. Fairy tale."

0:34:13 > 0:34:16When we started the tour, I was just bowled over -

0:34:16 > 0:34:19the size of the rooms, the number of the rooms,

0:34:19 > 0:34:20the character in the place,

0:34:20 > 0:34:24but after a while, and as Carol and I wandered around,

0:34:24 > 0:34:28we tried to imagine what it would be like to actually live in that house.

0:34:28 > 0:34:30Just the two of us most of the time.

0:34:30 > 0:34:35It began to dawn on us that, actually, it may be a step too far.

0:34:35 > 0:34:39I've never envisaged myself living in a property like this.

0:34:39 > 0:34:42As we were walking around the rooms, I was thinking,

0:34:42 > 0:34:45"Wow, this place is amazing and it would be great to show it off

0:34:45 > 0:34:47"to the family and friends,"

0:34:47 > 0:34:51but then, as we went into different rooms,

0:34:51 > 0:34:55I was thinking practicalities of the place, you know,

0:34:55 > 0:35:00I just don't think it is for us, really, because it's too big.

0:35:00 > 0:35:04Well, I'm really curious about what you're going to do next,

0:35:04 > 0:35:07so let's go and have a cup of tea somewhere and have a proper chat.

0:35:07 > 0:35:08Great idea.Thank you.

0:35:08 > 0:35:09THEY LAUGH

0:35:18 > 0:35:21It's not unusual to see grazing cattle on the horizon of

0:35:21 > 0:35:24the Yorkshire landscape, and in the heart of the Dales,

0:35:24 > 0:35:27a young Yorkshireman is using his cattle's yield

0:35:27 > 0:35:30to produce a dairy product that, legend has it,

0:35:30 > 0:35:34the Vikings introduced to Iceland over 1,000 years ago.

0:35:34 > 0:35:3723-year-old dairy farmer Sam Moorhouse

0:35:37 > 0:35:41discovered skyr on the internet when he was looking to diversify on

0:35:41 > 0:35:45the family farm and decided to fly to Iceland to find out more about

0:35:45 > 0:35:49the product which is somewhere between a yoghurt and a cheese.

0:35:49 > 0:35:53Hesper Farm is currently the sole UK producer.

0:35:53 > 0:35:55What made you think, "Actually,

0:35:55 > 0:35:59"this is something I can do from a Yorkshire Dales farm?"

0:35:59 > 0:36:01Well, I mean, we had the milk, obviously,

0:36:01 > 0:36:06and it hadn't been done in the UK yet and it was high protein.

0:36:06 > 0:36:08It's a high-protein product and a high-calcium product

0:36:08 > 0:36:10and it's low in fat. So I just thought, you know,

0:36:10 > 0:36:13I'd go and find out what I can about it, so I went over to Iceland

0:36:13 > 0:36:17to find somebody in Iceland who could show me how to make it.

0:36:17 > 0:36:19So you had to train up to do it, really?

0:36:19 > 0:36:21Very much so.

0:36:21 > 0:36:24The family has a herd of 300 Holstein cows

0:36:24 > 0:36:27of which 160 adult cattle are milked

0:36:27 > 0:36:31twice a day to each produce around 35 litres of milk.

0:36:31 > 0:36:35This makes about 2,000 litres of skyr a week.

0:36:35 > 0:36:39The family are very proud of their prize-winning girls.

0:36:39 > 0:36:41He spent the majority of his life

0:36:41 > 0:36:44trying to breed them up to a good standard of cow.

0:36:44 > 0:36:46You are looking for like a good confirmation on,

0:36:46 > 0:36:49you know, good udder and legs and so on,

0:36:49 > 0:36:53and, yes, occasionally we get awards.

0:36:53 > 0:36:55And what about the milk?

0:36:55 > 0:36:57Is that assessed?To a degree, yeah.

0:36:57 > 0:37:00They do look at how much milk they are producing, the quality of

0:37:00 > 0:37:04the milk, but that should come with it being a good cow.

0:37:04 > 0:37:06The most treasured is Baby,

0:37:06 > 0:37:10the first cow Sam bought when he was just 14 years old,

0:37:10 > 0:37:13and she's the poster girl for Sam's skyr.

0:37:13 > 0:37:17Baby's just laid down, as she likes to be over in the grass over there.

0:37:17 > 0:37:18And you can always pick her out?

0:37:18 > 0:37:21Yeah, yeah, she's got quite distinctive markings, if you know...

0:37:21 > 0:37:23if you're used to looking at cows.

0:37:23 > 0:37:25And she is your baby. Yeah, that's it, yeah.

0:37:25 > 0:37:28It's in the dairy where Iceland meets Yorkshire

0:37:28 > 0:37:30and the white stuff is transformed.

0:37:30 > 0:37:34Skyr takes almost three times longer than traditional yoghurt

0:37:34 > 0:37:38to make and uses around four times more milk per pot.

0:37:38 > 0:37:40Three to four litres of milk makes

0:37:40 > 0:37:43a kilo of the nutritious dairy product.

0:37:43 > 0:37:46After being skimmed and pasteurised at a local dairy,

0:37:46 > 0:37:49the milk goes into the batch tank here, where it's heated

0:37:49 > 0:37:54before cultures direct from Iceland are added and then vegetable rennet.

0:37:54 > 0:37:57This is where I should tell you, I've always made natural yoghurt

0:37:57 > 0:37:59at home and what I'm quite curious about

0:37:59 > 0:38:01is how similar the process is.

0:38:01 > 0:38:04Yes, I mean to a degree, it will be similar.

0:38:04 > 0:38:05There's variant steps that may change.

0:38:05 > 0:38:08So this is the saucepan, or the yoghurt maker.

0:38:08 > 0:38:10Very much so, yeah, this is where it all happens.

0:38:10 > 0:38:14The mixture sits in the tank for six hours where it turns to curd

0:38:14 > 0:38:16and is then drained into muslin sacks.

0:38:16 > 0:38:20And this is where it stops being the yoghurt, is it?

0:38:20 > 0:38:21Because that's where I would stop.

0:38:21 > 0:38:24I wouldn't...Yes.I would then put the yoghurt straight

0:38:24 > 0:38:27into the fridge after it's sat out for 12 hours or something.

0:38:27 > 0:38:31Ordinarily, that's where... At that point, you'd say that's yoghurt.

0:38:31 > 0:38:35There's a few extra little steps involved in making skyr.

0:38:35 > 0:38:3812 hours later, when the excess liquid, or whey, has drained out,

0:38:38 > 0:38:42the high-protein, high-calcium, fat-free product is born.

0:38:42 > 0:38:46Ah-ha!So this is the mixing bowl where we are mixing some skyr now.

0:38:46 > 0:38:49If it's plain skyr,

0:38:49 > 0:38:51we just stir it, mix it up, break it up, make it smooth.

0:38:51 > 0:38:54And if it's a flavoured skyr,

0:38:54 > 0:38:57we then add fruit in at that point, as well.

0:38:57 > 0:38:59And what flavours do you do, then?

0:38:59 > 0:39:02We do vanilla, strawberry, raspberry,

0:39:02 > 0:39:05black cherry and blueberry.

0:39:05 > 0:39:08After it's been mixed for around 10 to 15 minutes

0:39:08 > 0:39:10with some sweetened fruit,

0:39:10 > 0:39:12the skyr goes into the filler ready for potting.

0:39:12 > 0:39:14Now that's quite liquidy.

0:39:14 > 0:39:17Yeah, once this has come through and we've potted it up,

0:39:17 > 0:39:19we'll get it into the fridge... Back in the fridge.

0:39:19 > 0:39:22..then start setting again. What we'll do is we'll grab a few pots.

0:39:22 > 0:39:24I'll give you a couple, maybe.

0:39:24 > 0:39:26How many pots do you normally do?

0:39:26 > 0:39:29Usually we fill up this table behind us

0:39:29 > 0:39:32and we'll seal them as we go across.

0:39:32 > 0:39:34So, do you want a crack at it?

0:39:34 > 0:39:37Yeah, sure.Put your foot on there. MACHINE WHOOSHES TWICE

0:39:37 > 0:39:40Oh, I could hear it twice, but I see what you mean.

0:39:42 > 0:39:44There's something very satisfying about this.

0:39:44 > 0:39:48Next, the lids are sealed on and after a little bit of work,

0:39:48 > 0:39:50I think I deserve to be rewarded with a taste.

0:39:50 > 0:39:53First up is the original.

0:39:53 > 0:39:55Love it.

0:39:55 > 0:39:56It would go nicely with a curry.

0:39:56 > 0:39:58Black cherry, your favourite.

0:39:58 > 0:40:00This is my favourite, yes.

0:40:00 > 0:40:03It is just a hint of black cherry, but there's enough there.

0:40:03 > 0:40:05Yeah, so you know about it.

0:40:05 > 0:40:07But you've got the sourness of the yoghurt, still.

0:40:07 > 0:40:10It's still that natural yoghurt taste in it. And finally, raspberry.

0:40:13 > 0:40:15It's distinctive from the black cherry.

0:40:15 > 0:40:18It's definitely got a different fragrance and flavour about it.

0:40:18 > 0:40:21Sam, thank you very much for showing me the process,

0:40:21 > 0:40:22it's been so interesting.

0:40:22 > 0:40:25No, it's been good to have you. Thank you.

0:40:29 > 0:40:33So, we know our Mystery House is too big for Andy and Carol,

0:40:33 > 0:40:35so let's find out if one of our

0:40:35 > 0:40:37two other properties is a good fit for them.

0:40:44 > 0:40:47So, where are we with the houses?

0:40:47 > 0:40:50I know you liked all of them, really.

0:40:50 > 0:40:52We did.We did.

0:40:52 > 0:40:54But which ones are serious contenders for you now?

0:40:54 > 0:40:57Is it really only house number two?

0:40:57 > 0:41:00It is.I think so, yes.

0:41:00 > 0:41:04I loved house number one but I think I agree with Andy

0:41:04 > 0:41:07that it's perhaps just a little too remote.

0:41:07 > 0:41:11Lovely location, but practically, day-to-day living,

0:41:11 > 0:41:13I just feel it's a little too far out of town.

0:41:13 > 0:41:16So, will you go back and see house number two?

0:41:16 > 0:41:17Oh, yes, definitely.

0:41:17 > 0:41:20Do you love the house enough to perhaps put an offer in

0:41:20 > 0:41:23if you were in a position to? The house is lovely.

0:41:23 > 0:41:24It suited us down to the ground.

0:41:24 > 0:41:27I think you looked at home in it.

0:41:27 > 0:41:28Yeah.I felt at home.

0:41:28 > 0:41:32It was very homely and for a barn conversion,

0:41:32 > 0:41:37just felt really cosy, and I could see us relaxing there,

0:41:37 > 0:41:39having the whole family over.

0:41:39 > 0:41:41I like that word. I felt relaxed in it, as well.

0:41:41 > 0:41:44Yeah, you could just move, literally,

0:41:44 > 0:41:46straight in without having to do anything.

0:41:46 > 0:41:47Well I'm hoping you like the area, then,

0:41:47 > 0:41:50because actually, therefore, you might have found the house.

0:41:50 > 0:41:53We might have... You might have found us a house.

0:41:53 > 0:41:55Yes.Well, I wish you both the best of luck.

0:41:55 > 0:41:57I'm excited for your move

0:41:57 > 0:41:59and the fact that you'll be moving closer to family.

0:41:59 > 0:42:02Yes, and I'd just like to say thank you so much

0:42:02 > 0:42:04for the last couple of days.

0:42:04 > 0:42:06We've just enjoyed it so much.

0:42:06 > 0:42:09It's been a really good experience.

0:42:09 > 0:42:11I can't wait to phone you up and tell you the news.

0:42:11 > 0:42:13Well, do it soon, do it soon.

0:42:17 > 0:42:22It's easy to see why Carol and Andy seemed so at home in Yorkshire

0:42:22 > 0:42:25with lots of family members already living here.

0:42:25 > 0:42:28In many ways, house number two was spot-on for them,
