0:00:02 > 0:00:05With her can-do attitude, love of simple gardens and decades of

0:00:05 > 0:00:10experience, Charlie Dimmock is one of Britain's best-loved gardeners.

0:00:10 > 0:00:11Looking good, boys!

0:00:11 > 0:00:15But the new kids on the gardening block are the Rich brothers.

0:00:15 > 0:00:16We want to be the brothers

0:00:16 > 0:00:19that change people's perceptions of gardens.

0:00:19 > 0:00:22Winners of multiple medals of the Chelsea Flower Show...

0:00:22 > 0:00:24- Wow.- Good turn.- Amazing, isn't it?

0:00:24 > 0:00:28..the boys have become known for their dramatic outdoor spaces.

0:00:30 > 0:00:34Now these two different generations of gardening are going head-to-head.

0:00:34 > 0:00:38I know they've got a gold medal, but I can come up with a few ideas!

0:00:38 > 0:00:42They're meeting frustrated garden owners across the country...

0:00:42 > 0:00:45- Not a lot going on, is there?! - Not a lot!

0:00:45 > 0:00:46I don't know what to do with it.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49..and will each pitch them a design based on their needs...

0:00:49 > 0:00:50Wow!

0:00:50 > 0:00:51..and budget.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53That sounds amazing.

0:00:53 > 0:00:54Doesn't look like it could be our garden.

0:00:54 > 0:00:56The winner...

0:00:56 > 0:00:58CHEERING

0:00:58 > 0:01:00..brings their design to life.

0:01:00 > 0:01:02- Hold on, hold on!- Sweet as a nut.

0:01:02 > 0:01:05And the loser has to help them build it.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07Keep working, keep working, boys!

0:01:07 > 0:01:09Whoa, whoa. Easy!

0:01:09 > 0:01:10This is what happens...

0:01:10 > 0:01:14Just get on with it! Some time today would be good!

0:01:14 > 0:01:16..when different styles collide...

0:01:16 > 0:01:18I think your brother's throwing the toys out of his pram!

0:01:18 > 0:01:19Right, are we doing this?

0:01:19 > 0:01:23..to turn garden dreams into reality.

0:01:23 > 0:01:25- Open your eyes.- Oh!

0:01:25 > 0:01:27Oh, it's lovely.

0:01:27 > 0:01:29- Wow!- Look at that!

0:01:29 > 0:01:32Wow! It's not our garden!

0:01:41 > 0:01:43It's time for Charlie and the Rich brothers to find out

0:01:43 > 0:01:45today's garden challenge.

0:01:45 > 0:01:48This is right up your street, boys, I tell you.

0:01:48 > 0:01:51Richard and Fleur, daughter Jasmine.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53They want a party garden.

0:01:53 > 0:01:56- It DOES sound right up our street. - All the parties that we have!- Yeah!

0:01:56 > 0:01:59- You know us so well, Charlie! - And no pressure,

0:01:59 > 0:02:02but Fleur is an interior designer.

0:02:02 > 0:02:05So she'll know her way around a design scheme.

0:02:05 > 0:02:07Quite looking forward to seeing what her house looks like now!

0:02:10 > 0:02:14When Fleur and Richard, along with their 16-year-old daughter, Jasmine,

0:02:14 > 0:02:16moved into their home in Berkshire a year ago,

0:02:16 > 0:02:19they were determined to transform its tired decor,

0:02:19 > 0:02:23and have created their perfect home.

0:02:23 > 0:02:26It's been a very busy year doing the house,

0:02:26 > 0:02:27which we've really enjoyed doing.

0:02:27 > 0:02:31We've increased the size, making it more open plan.

0:02:31 > 0:02:34We've spent six months where we've had no roof,

0:02:34 > 0:02:37and we've had dust everywhere and things like that.

0:02:37 > 0:02:41We want to just kick back, sit in the garden, glass of wine,

0:02:41 > 0:02:43and just look at what we've done.

0:02:43 > 0:02:46And have some great parties and enjoy what we've done, yes.

0:02:47 > 0:02:50The couple have spent thousands transforming their house

0:02:50 > 0:02:54into a chic space worthy of an interiors magazine.

0:02:54 > 0:02:57Now they want a garden to match.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00We want to be able to pull the doors back and just walk out to

0:03:00 > 0:03:03something which is, you know, hopefully spectacular.

0:03:05 > 0:03:07The only trouble is,

0:03:07 > 0:03:11right now, the garden is more ow than wow!

0:03:12 > 0:03:15It's the wow factor that's missing from our garden.

0:03:15 > 0:03:18It's just grass with a bit of sand and rubble at the top.

0:03:20 > 0:03:24Richard recycled the rubble generated by the house renovations

0:03:24 > 0:03:28and used it as hard-core for the patio he intended to build.

0:03:28 > 0:03:30But then he ran out of steam.

0:03:30 > 0:03:33Looks like they've started, really.

0:03:33 > 0:03:35- Yeah.- They've sort of built this up.

0:03:35 > 0:03:37- Looks like it needs a little bit more done to it.- Yes!

0:03:37 > 0:03:39- To become that party garden.- Yeah.

0:03:41 > 0:03:45When it comes to interiors, this couple know their stuff.

0:03:45 > 0:03:48But the garden is a different story.

0:03:48 > 0:03:50We don't know what to do with the planting,

0:03:50 > 0:03:52so it's a very difficult one to try and visualise.

0:03:52 > 0:03:55We can see straight lines and stuff like that, but when it comes to

0:03:55 > 0:03:57planting, we're clueless.

0:03:59 > 0:04:03So not only are they turning to Charlie and the Rich brothers

0:04:03 > 0:04:06for help, they're prepared to spend to get what they want.

0:04:08 > 0:04:13We've got £4,000 left for the budget for the garden. And we think that

0:04:13 > 0:04:18will give us enough to transform the garden to what we want it to be.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21- It doesn't sound too bad, does it? - It's quite a big garden.

0:04:21 > 0:04:24It looks like there needs to be quite a lot of work done to it.

0:04:24 > 0:04:26A lot of hard landscaping there,

0:04:26 > 0:04:28that looks like, which makes the budget disappear.

0:04:28 > 0:04:32- Well, I think £4,000 will be enough to get the party started!- Yeah.

0:04:32 > 0:04:36£4,000 is a tidy sum, even for a garden this size.

0:04:36 > 0:04:38But when it comes to the party theme,

0:04:38 > 0:04:41Fleur's not thinking party poppers and the hokey cokey -

0:04:41 > 0:04:44her sights are set much higher than that.

0:04:46 > 0:04:50My lovely idea would be for the garden to have the Ibiza theme,

0:04:50 > 0:04:53where it's very chilled, it's very white.

0:04:53 > 0:04:57So you can just go out there and enjoy the garden and just sit

0:04:57 > 0:05:00with your friends, listening to great music.

0:05:02 > 0:05:05This makes this garden an even bigger challenge for the designers.

0:05:08 > 0:05:12The more palatial villas in Ibiza are known for their elegant gardens.

0:05:13 > 0:05:16Featuring whitewashed walls and minimalist planting, they

0:05:16 > 0:05:19seamlessly link the outdoor with the indoor.

0:05:19 > 0:05:23Making them the perfect place for after-party get-togethers.

0:05:23 > 0:05:25But they can cost tens of thousands.

0:05:30 > 0:05:32So turning Fleur and Richard's tired plot

0:05:32 > 0:05:34into a piece of Balearic paradise

0:05:34 > 0:05:37could eat up their four grand budget in no time.

0:05:39 > 0:05:41But Charlie and the Rich brothers love a challenge.

0:05:41 > 0:05:43So they're heading to Wokingham

0:05:43 > 0:05:45to get a first-hand look at what they're dealing with.

0:05:47 > 0:05:50They'll both be competing for the contract, so are on the hunt

0:05:50 > 0:05:52for anything that gives them an edge.

0:05:52 > 0:05:55And one thing they want to get a closer look at

0:05:55 > 0:05:57is the sad, abandoned patio area.

0:05:59 > 0:06:01At least some of the structure's already done.

0:06:01 > 0:06:05We know that they probably want to put some sort of seating here.

0:06:05 > 0:06:08- Right, shall we go on into the garden?- Explore!

0:06:08 > 0:06:11It looks like Fleur and Richard have already had a go

0:06:11 > 0:06:13at creating an outdoor party pad.

0:06:13 > 0:06:16Now, I like this. A seating area like this is great.

0:06:16 > 0:06:18Everyone goes, "Oh, I want to sit in the sun!"

0:06:18 > 0:06:20until it's boiling hot, and everyone wants to sit in the shade.

0:06:20 > 0:06:23Yeah, and I think it's nice backing on to something as well, isn't it?

0:06:23 > 0:06:27- That intimacy.- Yeah. Quite a few containers as well.- Mmm.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30There's a lot of garden to fill for four grand,

0:06:30 > 0:06:33especially if the couple want top-spec materials.

0:06:33 > 0:06:37So the boys want to see what Fleur has done with the house.

0:06:37 > 0:06:40If they want something similar in the garden,

0:06:40 > 0:06:42it could be very expensive.

0:06:42 > 0:06:45- Oh, it's very white in here, isn't it?- It is. Very minimal.

0:06:45 > 0:06:48Yeah. I think what I quite like about it is it's an open-plan room,

0:06:48 > 0:06:50- but it's got those individual zones. - Yeah.

0:06:50 > 0:06:54- And each area is quite well considered and well laid out.- Yes.

0:06:54 > 0:06:57It's all one but definitely divided. It's nice.

0:06:57 > 0:07:02Outside, Charlie is trying to manage the couple's expectations.

0:07:02 > 0:07:06Now, £4,000 is quite a lot of money. But the garden is big,

0:07:06 > 0:07:09- so you wouldn't be able to do the whole garden for that.- No.

0:07:09 > 0:07:12Are there certain areas that you want to stick to?

0:07:12 > 0:07:16We'd love to concentrate on the area just outside the doors.

0:07:16 > 0:07:19Because that's sort of the main entertaining area.

0:07:19 > 0:07:21So that's where we'd like to do.

0:07:22 > 0:07:24- It's a great view onto the garden, isn't it?- It is, yeah.

0:07:24 > 0:07:26I think when you've got a view like this,

0:07:26 > 0:07:29the key is really going to be reflecting the interior

0:07:29 > 0:07:30- in the garden.- Yeah.

0:07:30 > 0:07:34And by picking up the colour or details or textures, then you do

0:07:34 > 0:07:37- extend this space outside.- Yeah. And I think these slabs are crucial,

0:07:37 > 0:07:39- aren't they?- Yeah. - The minimal, white look.

0:07:39 > 0:07:41So we need to draw that out into the garden,

0:07:41 > 0:07:44- otherwise you'll have too much of a contrast, aren't you?- Yes.

0:07:44 > 0:07:47And what sort of plants are you looking for?

0:07:47 > 0:07:49We love contemporary plants.

0:07:49 > 0:07:53Sort of spiky, that type of thing. We'd love a herb area.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56So we can grow mint for the mojitos!

0:07:56 > 0:08:00Oh, OK! So you're really going down the party route!

0:08:02 > 0:08:05This garden is shaping up to be a real test.

0:08:05 > 0:08:08Fleur and Richard want the Ibiza-inspired wow-factor

0:08:08 > 0:08:12they've achieved in the house, but this is a big garden to fill,

0:08:12 > 0:08:13even for four grand.

0:08:19 > 0:08:22So Charlie and the Rich brothers get straight to work.

0:08:22 > 0:08:25Each of them will come up with a design that matches

0:08:25 > 0:08:27Fleur and Richard's style and their budget.

0:08:30 > 0:08:35Their £4,000 will be used to cover the cost of the materials for their

0:08:35 > 0:08:38new garden, while the labour will be supplied by Charlie,

0:08:38 > 0:08:40the Rich brothers, and their team of landscapers.

0:08:42 > 0:08:44Once they've presented their designs,

0:08:44 > 0:08:46the couple will then have to choose a winner.

0:08:46 > 0:08:50And whoever loses will help the winner to build the garden.

0:08:55 > 0:08:56It's time for the big pitch.

0:08:59 > 0:09:02Charlie's tried to convince the couple to focus their budget

0:09:02 > 0:09:04on one area of the garden.

0:09:04 > 0:09:06But will that leave her design looking a bit bare?

0:09:09 > 0:09:13While the boys have been inspired by the design of the house.

0:09:13 > 0:09:15But does that mean they'll go all-out and blow the budget?

0:09:17 > 0:09:20Right. So here's our design.

0:09:21 > 0:09:24Going with your party theme,

0:09:24 > 0:09:28I'm trying to give you party, but relaxed party,

0:09:28 > 0:09:32where you'll feel that you are in a Mediterranean type of area.

0:09:32 > 0:09:34Brilliant.

0:09:34 > 0:09:39The patio area, I want to keep it nice and sleek - light slabs,

0:09:39 > 0:09:43very uniform, and then out in front of this section here,

0:09:43 > 0:09:46we've got some decking.

0:09:46 > 0:09:51To get on and off of the deck area, I've got a boardwalk,

0:09:51 > 0:09:55and I've got it going over a dry riverbed.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57So it's not water, but it will look like it,

0:09:57 > 0:10:02- with the planting and using a reflective surface.- Yeah.

0:10:02 > 0:10:04Charlie has set the bar high -

0:10:04 > 0:10:09a contemporary patio and a boardwalk that gives off that holiday vibe.

0:10:09 > 0:10:11How will the boys respond?

0:10:13 > 0:10:16We really wanted the garden to reflect the interior of your home.

0:10:16 > 0:10:19So it's really stylish, it's all quite well thought-out.

0:10:19 > 0:10:22What we wanted to do is create these individual spaces

0:10:22 > 0:10:24that have their own unique character.

0:10:24 > 0:10:26So you've got these paths that open up into these

0:10:26 > 0:10:29lovelier big open areas, with a large terrace here.

0:10:29 > 0:10:30What's the patio made of?

0:10:30 > 0:10:34- Is it just...- It would be a natural stone, but just minimal, light,

0:10:34 > 0:10:38- try and keep that rhythm from the house in the garden.- Brilliant.

0:10:38 > 0:10:42So, both designers have embraced the party theme and gone for a

0:10:42 > 0:10:48contemporary, sleek, minimal patio, to match the interior of the house.

0:10:48 > 0:10:53But to create that Ibiza garden look, the planting will be key.

0:10:53 > 0:10:56I want to give you the wow factor with big,

0:10:56 > 0:10:59bold in-your-face type of plants.

0:10:59 > 0:11:04So we're talking bananas, palms, cordylines -

0:11:04 > 0:11:06big, bold foliage,

0:11:06 > 0:11:12so it will give you a bit of height around the patio area.

0:11:12 > 0:11:16So with the planting, we want to give you these lovely linear beds of rosemary.

0:11:16 > 0:11:18They give that a good bit of structure throughout the year,

0:11:18 > 0:11:20and that lovely scent as well, because I think that's really

0:11:20 > 0:11:22important to kind of act on all the senses.

0:11:22 > 0:11:25And then the large planting beds of grasses,

0:11:25 > 0:11:27and just a selection of perennials that come up throughout the year,

0:11:27 > 0:11:30but, again, it just draws on that idea that it's that

0:11:30 > 0:11:33Mediterranean style, it's quite minimal, quite arid.

0:11:33 > 0:11:35The boys are going for it.

0:11:35 > 0:11:38They think they can transform the whole garden for the money,

0:11:38 > 0:11:43while Charlie is focusing on two separate seating areas and spending

0:11:43 > 0:11:45the budget on big architectural plants.

0:11:47 > 0:11:52I wanted to create another area to the garden down this end,

0:11:52 > 0:11:54so I've done staggered panels

0:11:54 > 0:11:58and then we plant through with evergreens.

0:11:58 > 0:12:01This would be an area to sit in the shade, you know,

0:12:01 > 0:12:03if you've got lots of people here.

0:12:03 > 0:12:05Sometimes you don't all want to sit together.

0:12:05 > 0:12:07- No.- No, no.

0:12:07 > 0:12:09Both designs are going down well,

0:12:09 > 0:12:13but the boys have come up with one last Ibiza-inspired touch that

0:12:13 > 0:12:14they hope will swing the decision.

0:12:16 > 0:12:19One element within the design are these white walls here.

0:12:19 > 0:12:20These walls not only create

0:12:20 > 0:12:23the structure and separate the individual rooms,

0:12:23 > 0:12:25but they also allow you to kind of perch lamps on top,

0:12:25 > 0:12:28so in the evenings you can have them lit up,

0:12:28 > 0:12:30and it just creates that perspective that runs down the garden

0:12:30 > 0:12:33and allows your garden to feel larger.

0:12:33 > 0:12:34Lovely.

0:12:35 > 0:12:37But not to be outdone,

0:12:37 > 0:12:40Charlie's saved her own piece de resistance till last -

0:12:40 > 0:12:43an elegant water feature with a twist.

0:12:45 > 0:12:49I've just gone for a stainless steel, brushed stainless steel

0:12:49 > 0:12:52water blade, that you then plant up the top with herbs.

0:12:52 > 0:12:55So I'm thinking of your mint, but maybe thyme,

0:12:55 > 0:12:59or you could just have lots of different types of mint -

0:12:59 > 0:13:00Moroccan mint,

0:13:00 > 0:13:03apple mint, chocolate mint, the whole lot.

0:13:05 > 0:13:08Charlie's remembered the couple's fondness for a refreshing cocktail,

0:13:08 > 0:13:11but will it prove decisive?

0:13:11 > 0:13:12Lovely, thank you.

0:13:13 > 0:13:16With the pitch over, it's now down to Richard and Fleur.

0:13:19 > 0:13:22They're both really good, it's a really hard decision to make.

0:13:22 > 0:13:24I love the fact that it's really linear,

0:13:24 > 0:13:26the really contemporary look.

0:13:26 > 0:13:31- Yeah.- But I love the fact that it's got the two different textures here.

0:13:31 > 0:13:35- Feeling confident?- They got a sort of bit of glee when I mentioned the

0:13:35 > 0:13:37water feature and the dry river.

0:13:37 > 0:13:39Oooh, hands up, we didn't have a water feature.

0:13:39 > 0:13:41- That might sway it.- Yeah.

0:13:41 > 0:13:44I like the way it uses the whole garden and goes through.

0:13:44 > 0:13:46- This is a really nice detail. - Yeah, it is.

0:13:46 > 0:13:49We did nail the Ibiza theme, though, I feel.

0:13:49 > 0:13:52- Yeah?- A little bit more minimal than just kind of crazy party garden,

0:13:52 > 0:13:55but I think we have that nice sort of balance between

0:13:55 > 0:13:56interior, exterior.

0:13:56 > 0:14:00We'll wait and see, won't we? Wait and see.

0:14:00 > 0:14:02The couple can only pick one design,

0:14:02 > 0:14:07so will they be swayed by the Rich brothers' expansive schemes of

0:14:07 > 0:14:12white walls, garden rooms and sleek, minimal touches?

0:14:12 > 0:14:16Or will they go for Charlie's two rooms, featuring bold planting,

0:14:16 > 0:14:19a water feature and an enticing boardwalk?

0:14:22 > 0:14:23It's decision time.

0:14:25 > 0:14:26- Here they come.- Oooh.

0:14:27 > 0:14:29- Hello.- Hi, hi.

0:14:29 > 0:14:31That was really difficult.

0:14:32 > 0:14:36You've both captured what we wanted, and we loved both of them,

0:14:36 > 0:14:38so thank you for that.

0:14:38 > 0:14:43But we have decided to go with Charlie's.

0:14:44 > 0:14:45Yeah, well done.

0:14:45 > 0:14:48The reason we chose this is because

0:14:48 > 0:14:51we think looking out from the patio doors,

0:14:51 > 0:14:54the foreground here is going to be, you know,

0:14:54 > 0:14:56nicer to look at here.

0:14:56 > 0:15:00I've spent all the money on a very small area.

0:15:00 > 0:15:02- We like that.- So Ibiza here we come!

0:15:02 > 0:15:04- Yeah.- Mojitos all round.

0:15:04 > 0:15:05Yes!

0:15:07 > 0:15:11So, putting all the wow factor up front has won it for Charlie,

0:15:11 > 0:15:14but she has promised Fleur and Richard statement planting,

0:15:14 > 0:15:19a huge patio, decking area and boardwalk, plus a water feature.

0:15:19 > 0:15:21To pull all this off for £4,000,

0:15:21 > 0:15:24she is really going to need the boys' help.

0:15:29 > 0:15:31It's day one of the build in Wokingham,

0:15:31 > 0:15:36and while Charlie is away fine-tuning her Ibiza party garden design,

0:15:36 > 0:15:41she's instructed her trusty team of landscapers - Alan, Mark and Scott -

0:15:41 > 0:15:47to get cracking, under the watchful eye of Kate, the project manager.

0:15:47 > 0:15:49So that comes out a metre, so we come out a metre,

0:15:49 > 0:15:51then we come out two metres.

0:15:51 > 0:15:56Central to Charlie's design is the large entertaining space that flows

0:15:56 > 0:16:01out from the house. She decided to divide the area into two zones,

0:16:01 > 0:16:03using decking for one area and tiles for the other.

0:16:06 > 0:16:08But straightaway, Kate has noticed an issue

0:16:08 > 0:16:11with the decking boards she's ordered.

0:16:11 > 0:16:14Time to call the boss for a quick chat.

0:16:14 > 0:16:16Hi, Charlie, it's Kate here.

0:16:16 > 0:16:19- 'Hello.'- We're just putting the deck in...

0:16:19 > 0:16:23- 'Right.'- ..and I know on your lovely design you had it coming slightly

0:16:23 > 0:16:28further out from the extension, but all the lengths are 4x8, which,

0:16:28 > 0:16:33coincidentally, is the exact same length as the extension.

0:16:33 > 0:16:35Would you mind if we kept it flush?

0:16:35 > 0:16:37- 'Keep it flush.'- Is that OK?

0:16:37 > 0:16:38- Lovely.- 'That's fine.'

0:16:38 > 0:16:42Oh, brilliant. That will save a lot of time, as well.

0:16:42 > 0:16:44Thanks, Charlie, I'll see you later. Bye.

0:16:44 > 0:16:45'Bye!'

0:16:47 > 0:16:50Not having to cut the boards will speed up work and create a neater

0:16:50 > 0:16:54finish - it's definitely worth sacrificing a few inches of deck

0:16:54 > 0:16:55for a cleaner look.

0:16:59 > 0:17:01Running flush to the deck,

0:17:01 > 0:17:04and to echo the couple's minimalist interior,

0:17:04 > 0:17:06Charlie's chosen large 60x90 tiles,

0:17:06 > 0:17:10butted right up against each other for a sleek, contemporary look.

0:17:14 > 0:17:17Altogether, this area of hard landscaping

0:17:17 > 0:17:19will be a whopping 45 square metres.

0:17:22 > 0:17:26If you're going to include a lot of hard landscaping in your garden,

0:17:26 > 0:17:29the trick is to avoid too much of one material,

0:17:29 > 0:17:32otherwise you'll end up with a car park, not a patio.

0:17:36 > 0:17:39Using varying-sized slabs breaks up the lines of the patio,

0:17:39 > 0:17:41so it doesn't look too blocky.

0:17:44 > 0:17:46By spacing the slabs out,

0:17:46 > 0:17:50gaps can be filled with sand and pebbles for a more natural or rustic

0:17:50 > 0:17:54look. These can also be interplanted with herbs, such as thyme,

0:17:54 > 0:17:56to give it that cottagey feel.

0:17:59 > 0:18:03Different paving choices work with different gardens.

0:18:03 > 0:18:06Brick adds rustic charm to a traditional garden,

0:18:06 > 0:18:10while slate and sandstone give a sleek finish to contemporary spaces.

0:18:14 > 0:18:16In the garden in Wokingham,

0:18:16 > 0:18:20using material to connect the inside with the outside will encourage

0:18:20 > 0:18:23guests to explore the new garden when it's party time.

0:18:25 > 0:18:28With the hard landscaping well underway,

0:18:28 > 0:18:30boss Charlie is eager to take command

0:18:30 > 0:18:33and is keen to set the boys to work.

0:18:34 > 0:18:36- Here we go, then.- Yes.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39How are you feeling? Cos this garden is going to be all about that front

0:18:39 > 0:18:40- view, isn't it?- Yeah,

0:18:40 > 0:18:45and I know it looks like it's already prepped and done,

0:18:45 > 0:18:47but in actual fact we've got all the slabs, do the decking,

0:18:47 > 0:18:50preferably keeping them at the same level,

0:18:50 > 0:18:52because I want it to look nice and sleek,

0:18:52 > 0:18:54but then I've got the planters on there as well,

0:18:54 > 0:18:56and then there's the boardwalk.

0:18:58 > 0:19:00Water feature?

0:19:00 > 0:19:03Water feature, and a dry riverbed.

0:19:03 > 0:19:04Oh, crikey.

0:19:04 > 0:19:09And then you guys are doing the screening at the back of the garden.

0:19:09 > 0:19:10That kind of staggered...

0:19:10 > 0:19:14Yeah, so it's all sleek, modern, textures.

0:19:14 > 0:19:17I thought Charlie was talking about me and you then, Dave.

0:19:17 > 0:19:18Sleek and modern?

0:19:18 > 0:19:20Don't hold your breath there, boys!

0:19:28 > 0:19:31While the boys head down the garden to make a start on the screening...

0:19:33 > 0:19:36..Charlie's first priority is to check out her water feature,

0:19:36 > 0:19:37which has just arrived.

0:19:38 > 0:19:40The great thing about this is it's a kit,

0:19:40 > 0:19:44so it all comes prepared with the hose built-in,

0:19:44 > 0:19:47so it's a really clean, sleek look.

0:19:47 > 0:19:50So that's our submersible pump, that will sit down in here...

0:19:50 > 0:19:55And just attach the hose to it, like that,

0:19:55 > 0:19:57and it's got built-in lights.

0:19:57 > 0:20:00There's going to be bright white lights across there,

0:20:00 > 0:20:05picking up the Ibiza chillax mode.

0:20:05 > 0:20:07- Or, sort of... - SHE SIGHS

0:20:08 > 0:20:10Swap.

0:20:10 > 0:20:11At the bottom of the garden,

0:20:11 > 0:20:15the boys have finished digging the holes for the fence posts.

0:20:15 > 0:20:18What we're looking for, two foot.

0:20:18 > 0:20:19Perfect.

0:20:19 > 0:20:21Time to get on the posts.

0:20:22 > 0:20:26Charlie has designed some bespoke fencing screens to create privacy

0:20:26 > 0:20:28at this end of the garden.

0:20:29 > 0:20:31Each screen will be offset slightly

0:20:31 > 0:20:34to create depth and add a three-dimensional element.

0:20:34 > 0:20:37They'll later be inter-planted with evergreens

0:20:37 > 0:20:40to break-up the hard lines of the timber.

0:20:44 > 0:20:45With the posts in the ground,

0:20:45 > 0:20:49Harry and David fill the holes with the post-mix concrete...

0:20:49 > 0:20:51The last bit. Waste not, want not.

0:20:51 > 0:20:54..which sets fast, so they need to make sure they are straight.

0:20:59 > 0:21:01The Rich brothers do it again.

0:21:04 > 0:21:06The temptation with boundaries is

0:21:06 > 0:21:08to just buy a fence panel off-the-shelf.

0:21:08 > 0:21:09With this one, it's bespoke, you know,

0:21:09 > 0:21:11it links in with the rest of the design,

0:21:11 > 0:21:13so it's going to really complement it.

0:21:13 > 0:21:15And it comes in at about half the price.

0:21:15 > 0:21:18For a length of fencing like this, you're looking at about £100.

0:21:18 > 0:21:21This is coming in at £40. So it's a no-brainer.

0:21:27 > 0:21:28Back down the other end,

0:21:28 > 0:21:30Charlie is making a start on digging out the planting beds

0:21:30 > 0:21:33that will eventually flank the boardwalk.

0:21:33 > 0:21:37And Fleur is making sure the workers are sufficiently lubricated.

0:21:37 > 0:21:40- How's it going? - We are, sort of, getting there.

0:21:40 > 0:21:43You can start to see some of the structure.

0:21:43 > 0:21:45- But I have a request.- OK.

0:21:45 > 0:21:48You have lots of lovely things in containers.

0:21:48 > 0:21:52- Yes.- Which pick up the Ibiza theme, being white, you know,

0:21:52 > 0:21:54you've got bamboos, cordylines,

0:21:54 > 0:21:57- and I did notice you've got lots and lots of olives.- Yes.

0:21:57 > 0:22:01Now, although they do look lovely in containers,

0:22:01 > 0:22:04what happens is, after a couple of years, if you don't keep up feeding

0:22:04 > 0:22:06them and watering them properly,

0:22:06 > 0:22:09they start to weaken and look a bit sickly.

0:22:09 > 0:22:13So I'm wondering if we can plant them out to give you an olive grove,

0:22:13 > 0:22:17which, once they're in the ground, they've got unlimited nutrients,

0:22:17 > 0:22:19unlimited moisture,

0:22:19 > 0:22:24so they reach their full potential and will look fantastic.

0:22:24 > 0:22:26I'd love that. I really would.

0:22:26 > 0:22:28I mean, I buy them because I think they look pretty,

0:22:28 > 0:22:30but I don't know how to look after them.

0:22:30 > 0:22:34- That's great.- It's getting to the time of day that we want

0:22:34 > 0:22:38- you and Richard to trundle away. Is that all right?- Yeah, no problem.

0:22:38 > 0:22:41You won't be twitching, going, "What are they doing?"

0:22:41 > 0:22:44- We trust you.- OK. - And I love what we've seen so far.

0:22:44 > 0:22:47Oh, that's a good thing. Right, well.

0:22:47 > 0:22:48- Thank you, OK, see you later. - Off you go.

0:22:48 > 0:22:51- I'll let you finish your coffee first.- Thank you.

0:22:53 > 0:22:57While the brothers wait for the concrete to set around fence posts,

0:22:57 > 0:22:59they're cracking on with the decking.

0:22:59 > 0:23:03And it looks like the boss's design is growing on them.

0:23:03 > 0:23:06It's nice having the two separate materials in this area.

0:23:06 > 0:23:08- Yes.- Because that's quite a large space, isn't it?

0:23:08 > 0:23:12Definitely having the modern, sleek slab there, kind of

0:23:12 > 0:23:13really complements the inside.

0:23:13 > 0:23:15Whereas what Charlie's done here, having the wood,

0:23:15 > 0:23:18it's a lot more natural, a lot more warming.

0:23:18 > 0:23:21And it's definitely playing off the architecture of the building.

0:23:21 > 0:23:23It has this cosy feeling. So once the seating's in there,

0:23:23 > 0:23:26I think it's going to create this beautiful space to sit.

0:23:26 > 0:23:28It does. That's probably where I'd find myself to be.

0:23:28 > 0:23:31To add a Balearic touch between the deck and the patio,

0:23:31 > 0:23:35Charlie's including a strip of different-sized pebbles.

0:23:35 > 0:23:38We've got the small stuff, the big stuff, and the medium stuff,

0:23:38 > 0:23:40and it's quite nice, isn't it?

0:23:40 > 0:23:42Again, I think she's all about textures here.

0:23:42 > 0:23:45She's all about textures. By using three different materials,

0:23:45 > 0:23:47we've got that modern, contemporary dance-floor feeling.

0:23:47 > 0:23:49We've got that warm textured seating space.

0:23:49 > 0:23:52Then we've got this natural, very much Ibiza-style

0:23:52 > 0:23:54gravel in the middle.

0:23:54 > 0:23:58This garden has one purpose and one purpose only - to be an inviting,

0:23:58 > 0:24:02entertaining space for Richard and Fleur's big social get-togethers.

0:24:06 > 0:24:10At The Roof Gardens in Kensington in London, the head gardeners have been

0:24:10 > 0:24:14doing just that since the gardens were opened in 1938.

0:24:14 > 0:24:16For the purpose of entertaining weary shoppers

0:24:16 > 0:24:18at Derry & Toms department store.

0:24:22 > 0:24:26Today, the purpose of the garden is broadly the same -

0:24:26 > 0:24:29to provide a relaxing retreat for city dwellers,

0:24:29 > 0:24:32and it falls to head gardener Pilar Medrano-Dell

0:24:32 > 0:24:35to create the perfect setting.

0:24:35 > 0:24:40To create entertaining spaces in the garden, it's essential to create

0:24:40 > 0:24:42maybe some intimate areas where people can gather.

0:24:42 > 0:24:45And you're having a cocktail or a glass of wine

0:24:45 > 0:24:49and then move onto another area, hop around a little bit.

0:24:49 > 0:24:52We want people to come and feel relaxed here,

0:24:52 > 0:24:54and feel they can have fun, also.

0:24:57 > 0:25:01The addition of statement plants and unusual architecture around this

0:25:01 > 0:25:03space add a wow factor to the gardens.

0:25:03 > 0:25:06I think it's important to create focal points in the garden

0:25:06 > 0:25:08where people are going to be able to talk about

0:25:08 > 0:25:10what's happening around them.

0:25:10 > 0:25:14For example, we've created a living wall with herbs.

0:25:14 > 0:25:16You can touch them. You can look at them.

0:25:16 > 0:25:19You can try them. And, of course, we've got flamingos.

0:25:23 > 0:25:26We may be six floors above a busy London street,

0:25:26 > 0:25:31but flamingos have been part of The Roof Garden since the 1950s.

0:25:31 > 0:25:33The current residents are Bill and Ben,

0:25:33 > 0:25:35and Splosh and Pecks.

0:25:41 > 0:25:45Different themes within a garden are also essential for setting the tone

0:25:45 > 0:25:48of the space. And at The Roof Gardens

0:25:48 > 0:25:51they have a Spanish garden, a Tudor garden,

0:25:51 > 0:25:53and an English woodland garden,

0:25:53 > 0:25:56each with its own unique character and atmosphere.

0:25:58 > 0:26:01In the Spanish garden, we have a lot of hot colours.

0:26:01 > 0:26:02It's very vibrant.

0:26:02 > 0:26:05It's colourful. There's lots of light.

0:26:05 > 0:26:06You get a sense of fun.

0:26:06 > 0:26:07And that's the kind of atmosphere

0:26:07 > 0:26:09that we want to bring to this garden.

0:26:13 > 0:26:17Then you walk through a Tudor walkway with a more formal atmosphere,

0:26:17 > 0:26:20which makes it a little bit more elegant.

0:26:23 > 0:26:26And the English woodland garden, because there's water,

0:26:26 > 0:26:29it's a little bit more relaxing, people look at the ducks.

0:26:33 > 0:26:35That's why we have these different areas

0:26:35 > 0:26:38where we create three different atmospheres.

0:26:46 > 0:26:47Back in Wokingham,

0:26:47 > 0:26:50setting the right tone for Fleur and Richard's party garden

0:26:50 > 0:26:54is all-important, which is why Charlie is bringing out the bling.

0:26:55 > 0:26:58Keeping that Ibiza theme going,

0:26:58 > 0:27:01there's going to be another project for you boys.

0:27:01 > 0:27:04- Lay it on us.- So, this is going to be a raised bed here.

0:27:04 > 0:27:08- Yeah?- But it's going to be made from brushed, sort of, stainless steel.

0:27:08 > 0:27:11- Nice.- OK? To give that blingy-type effect.

0:27:11 > 0:27:13And it'll pick up the water feature.

0:27:13 > 0:27:16- OK.- So, a nice, sleek, neat finish to this,

0:27:16 > 0:27:18and then cap it off with some timber.

0:27:18 > 0:27:20You can trust us, Charlie.

0:27:20 > 0:27:22- Spit spot.- Chop chop.

0:27:24 > 0:27:28The boys' list of jobs is mounting, and they still need to complete

0:27:28 > 0:27:30the fencing screens at the end of the garden.

0:27:35 > 0:27:38We've pre-painted these boards in grey.

0:27:38 > 0:27:40We've got a dark one at the back and a light one at the front.

0:27:40 > 0:27:44And this really gives, kind of, depth and texture to this fence.

0:27:50 > 0:27:52We're using this in a horizontal fashion,

0:27:52 > 0:27:55but you don't have to do that. There's many different ways.

0:27:55 > 0:27:58You could have it upright, so, vertical.

0:27:58 > 0:28:01You could do it more of, like, a dog tooth, or a herringbone,

0:28:01 > 0:28:02that would be quite a traditional way.

0:28:02 > 0:28:05Basically, there's no real limits, especially the colours,

0:28:05 > 0:28:07you could do that to fit your theme in the house,

0:28:07 > 0:28:09or any different style that you like.

0:28:19 > 0:28:20There we are.

0:28:20 > 0:28:22- Done.- One in, three to go.

0:28:22 > 0:28:24Let's crack on.

0:28:26 > 0:28:29The big, bold planting design close to the house really swung it for

0:28:29 > 0:28:34Charlie when Richard and Fleur were deciding which design to choose.

0:28:34 > 0:28:38So she wants to make sure the plants live up to their expectations.

0:28:41 > 0:28:43Well, this is great, the plants have arrived,

0:28:43 > 0:28:46and we've got some really fantastic ones for around the patio.

0:28:46 > 0:28:51Architectural plants are plants that have got that big, bold, wow factor,

0:28:51 > 0:28:54and you notice them straightaway in a garden.

0:28:54 > 0:28:57So they've got very simple leaves.

0:28:57 > 0:29:00We've got big banana leaves. Or spiky.

0:29:00 > 0:29:02Or they've got a good structure to them.

0:29:02 > 0:29:06So they're, sort of, right in your face and you see them straightaway.

0:29:06 > 0:29:08Other plants we've got...

0:29:09 > 0:29:11This is our underplanting,

0:29:11 > 0:29:15which will frame our dramatic architectural plants.

0:29:15 > 0:29:17And I'm going for a contemporary feel.

0:29:17 > 0:29:21So there's not much variety, but they're very different in style.

0:29:21 > 0:29:23So, we've got a very loose shape.

0:29:23 > 0:29:26Again, we've got the structure of the fern leaf.

0:29:26 > 0:29:30And then we've got the black turf lily,

0:29:30 > 0:29:35which will really pull out the Ibiza feel against the white slabs.

0:29:40 > 0:29:44Back in the garden, the landscapers are racing ahead with the decking.

0:29:45 > 0:29:49While the boys are making a start on the raised planters.

0:29:52 > 0:29:55With the paving nearly complete, Charlie can get to grips

0:29:55 > 0:29:58with the water feature in the corner of the patio.

0:30:00 > 0:30:02That's definitely not level.

0:30:02 > 0:30:04It's tipping backwards.

0:30:04 > 0:30:05Too many mojitos it's had.

0:30:12 > 0:30:14That looks all right to me.

0:30:15 > 0:30:17Now that the patio is fixed,

0:30:17 > 0:30:22the landscapers have a straight edge to build the boardwalk on.

0:30:22 > 0:30:26In her design, Charlie has used this boardwalk as a way to link

0:30:26 > 0:30:29her modern patio area with the rest of the garden.

0:30:29 > 0:30:32And by having it snaked out through the planting,

0:30:32 > 0:30:36it also create intrigue, enticing visitors to explore.

0:30:38 > 0:30:42You can see the boardwalk is starting to take shape now.

0:30:42 > 0:30:47My idea is that the boardwalk helps you, sort of, float over the plants,

0:30:47 > 0:30:49and look down on them.

0:30:49 > 0:30:52I want to try to evoke those memories of

0:30:52 > 0:30:54Richard and Fleur's holidays in Ibiza,

0:30:54 > 0:30:57where I'm sure they must have walked on many boardwalks

0:30:57 > 0:30:59to get down to the beach.

0:31:09 > 0:31:13With the timber cut to size, the boys are ready to start assembling

0:31:13 > 0:31:16the stainless-steel-clad planter for up on the patio.

0:31:20 > 0:31:23There we are. Charlie, where do you want your coffee table?

0:31:23 > 0:31:24SHE LAUGHS

0:31:24 > 0:31:26Is that my planter, is it?

0:31:26 > 0:31:29- It is.- It's the beginning of it. - Wow, smart.

0:31:29 > 0:31:30Very good. Well done.

0:31:30 > 0:31:34Don't touch it, don't touch it. Don't touch it!

0:31:34 > 0:31:37- So, the metal is going to...- Yeah.

0:31:37 > 0:31:39You're going to bring that up.

0:31:39 > 0:31:42My lovely assistant will show us now.

0:31:42 > 0:31:43Go on, give us a tune.

0:31:43 > 0:31:45The idea is to have that...

0:31:45 > 0:31:48That's it, right, cool, take that round.

0:31:48 > 0:31:52- Fabulous.- Right, we'll bend it round and then show you.- Yeah.

0:31:52 > 0:31:55Right, if we line this up at the top.

0:31:56 > 0:31:59And the planters aren't the only use Charlie has for these large,

0:31:59 > 0:32:03steel sheets. They make the ideal base for a fake water feature.

0:32:04 > 0:32:08This is going to be the ultimate low-maintenance water feature,

0:32:08 > 0:32:10ie, there is no water in it at all.

0:32:10 > 0:32:13That just gives the impression of water,

0:32:13 > 0:32:17and then we're going to dress round with cobbles and plants overhanging,

0:32:17 > 0:32:22so it'll look like a riverbed with a little trickle of water just,

0:32:22 > 0:32:23sort of, sitting in the bottom.

0:32:32 > 0:32:34Now we've tacked it in, so it's holding firm,

0:32:34 > 0:32:38what we're going to do is we're going to bend it round this upright.

0:32:38 > 0:32:42Nice and tight, and then it should end flush with this upright here,

0:32:42 > 0:32:44and then we'll tack it in.

0:32:44 > 0:32:47Right, I'll go around here and hold it, you can do the bending.

0:32:49 > 0:32:51Look at that.

0:32:57 > 0:32:59With the base of the dry river in place,

0:32:59 > 0:33:00Charlie wastes no time

0:33:00 > 0:33:04in getting the structural plants into the garden.

0:33:04 > 0:33:06I'm placing all the big plants first.

0:33:06 > 0:33:08What I'm trying to do is

0:33:08 > 0:33:13obscure the view of the whole garden from the kitchen.

0:33:13 > 0:33:16And this will become a room on its own.

0:33:16 > 0:33:20Then we're going to have the boardwalk that will bring you out

0:33:20 > 0:33:21onto another vista.

0:33:23 > 0:33:25By dividing the garden into different rooms,

0:33:25 > 0:33:28Charlie's hoping to separate intimate spaces

0:33:28 > 0:33:29within the whole design.

0:33:32 > 0:33:36But the concept of dividing a garden into a succession of rooms

0:33:36 > 0:33:38with different purposes is nothing new.

0:33:42 > 0:33:45Some of the most famous, historic gardens in Britain,

0:33:45 > 0:33:48such as Sissinghurst Castle Gardens in Kent,

0:33:48 > 0:33:50were built around this principle.

0:33:52 > 0:33:57Modern gardens, such as this one in Essex, designed by Patricia Cox,

0:33:57 > 0:33:59put their own spin on the theme.

0:34:04 > 0:34:07This contemporary space brings the inside out,

0:34:07 > 0:34:10and extends the living space into the garden -

0:34:10 > 0:34:14with a dining room enclosed by low box hedging,

0:34:14 > 0:34:18and an outside lounge tucked behind a cosy stone wall and fireplace.

0:34:23 > 0:34:26It's this design look that Charlie is hoping to achieve

0:34:26 > 0:34:29in Fleur and Richard's garden in Wokingham -

0:34:29 > 0:34:32extending the living space out from their house,

0:34:32 > 0:34:35and then subtly screening it with plants to retain privacy.

0:34:38 > 0:34:41So, this is a black bamboo.

0:34:41 > 0:34:45We will probably clear the lower bit to show off the stems a bit more.

0:34:45 > 0:34:49In actual fact, just here, I don't mind if this really clumps up,

0:34:49 > 0:34:52because I'm trying to create a wall of foliage

0:34:52 > 0:34:54along this bit of the boardwalk.

0:35:07 > 0:35:12Roll your olive into place, and try and get it out the pot.

0:35:13 > 0:35:16Come on, little olive, you know you want to.

0:35:16 > 0:35:17There we go.

0:35:26 > 0:35:29Sort of in the middle of the middle, yeah?

0:35:29 > 0:35:31- Right.- Look at you, boys.

0:35:31 > 0:35:33I know, check us out.

0:35:33 > 0:35:36- Right, down.- Look at that.

0:35:36 > 0:35:38We'll have to give it a little... Here we are.

0:35:38 > 0:35:41This is Charlie's fourth texture going in the garden,

0:35:41 > 0:35:42the galvanised steel.

0:35:42 > 0:35:45It works really nicely with the water feature that she's got there.

0:35:45 > 0:35:48I think it's another bespoke thing in the garden -

0:35:48 > 0:35:49we've got the bespoke fencing,

0:35:49 > 0:35:52bespoke planters, bespoke boardwalk, so it's a really special garden.

0:35:52 > 0:35:56- All it needs is some banana trees now.- I know.- Just there.

0:35:56 > 0:35:58- Nice.- Three bananas.

0:35:58 > 0:36:00Love it. It's going to look really cool.

0:36:00 > 0:36:01Two monkeys.

0:36:01 > 0:36:04SHE LAUGHS

0:36:04 > 0:36:05While bananas are tender plants,

0:36:05 > 0:36:08there are some hardy varieties, like Musa basjoo,

0:36:08 > 0:36:12that can survive outside over the winter in milder parts of the UK.

0:36:16 > 0:36:20However, it's still recommended to wrap them in hessian or fleece

0:36:20 > 0:36:23during the colder months. Especially when they are first planted.

0:36:27 > 0:36:31To extend the feel of the patio area into the garden,

0:36:31 > 0:36:35Charlie weaves the sheets of steel through the architectural plants,

0:36:35 > 0:36:38and adds light-coloured pebbles and bright white cobbles

0:36:38 > 0:36:41to create the feel of a riverbed.

0:36:41 > 0:36:43So, do you see the effect?

0:36:43 > 0:36:45It looks like water, doesn't it, really?

0:36:45 > 0:36:47It gives a bit of reflection.

0:36:47 > 0:36:49And once you get a few plants around it,

0:36:49 > 0:36:52it just softens it, and a few cobbles, and we're there.

0:37:17 > 0:37:18Before the makeover,

0:37:18 > 0:37:22Fleur and Richard's garden was a hotchpotch of half-started projects

0:37:22 > 0:37:24and outdated elements.

0:37:24 > 0:37:26It wasn't a great garden for entertaining,

0:37:26 > 0:37:29and it definitely lacked that wow factor.

0:37:37 > 0:37:40Now it's had a £4,000 makeover,

0:37:40 > 0:37:44and Charlie and the Rich brothers have gone all-out to give the couple

0:37:44 > 0:37:46as much bang for their buck as possible.

0:37:52 > 0:37:56Charlie spent £340 on the simple yet stylish

0:37:56 > 0:37:59self-contained water feature with a herb planter

0:37:59 > 0:38:03and LED lights to really give the garden that party vibe.

0:38:07 > 0:38:09And the bespoke stainless steel planter

0:38:09 > 0:38:13that gives the raised garden beds some matching bling

0:38:13 > 0:38:15only cost £120 to build.

0:38:20 > 0:38:22While the boardwalk and dry riverbed

0:38:22 > 0:38:25that evoke holiday memories and trips to the beach

0:38:25 > 0:38:27were constructed for just under £450.

0:38:35 > 0:38:38The plants were key to making a big statement with this garden

0:38:38 > 0:38:40and cost £700.

0:38:40 > 0:38:42Including the three banana trees

0:38:42 > 0:38:44which give the garden that extra wow factor,

0:38:44 > 0:38:46and cost only £25 each.

0:38:57 > 0:39:01And the all-important smooth finish Indian sandstone paving

0:39:01 > 0:39:05that seamlessly connects the interior and exterior of the house.

0:39:05 > 0:39:08To give the garden that classic contemporary feel

0:39:08 > 0:39:10cost just under £1,000.

0:39:19 > 0:39:22Fleur and Richard wanted a spectacular garden that would wow

0:39:22 > 0:39:24their friends and entertain their guests...

0:39:27 > 0:39:30..whilst bringing some Balearic cool to Wokingham.

0:39:32 > 0:39:36It's time to find out if Charlie has delivered.

0:39:38 > 0:39:40OK, open your eyes.

0:39:40 > 0:39:42Oh, wow.

0:39:42 > 0:39:46- This is brilliant.- Oh, my goodness. - Oh, wow.- Oh...

0:39:46 > 0:39:49- Absolutely brilliant. - Wow, that's...- Does it say Ibiza?

0:39:49 > 0:39:51- It really does. - It's absolutely fantastic.

0:39:51 > 0:39:53Oh, I'm so pleased.

0:39:53 > 0:39:54I love the banana plants.

0:39:54 > 0:39:58Good, it's all about the banana plants.

0:39:58 > 0:40:01They love the bananas. They've got lovely leaves.

0:40:01 > 0:40:03It looks really nice. Love the theme.

0:40:03 > 0:40:06I love having, like, a really architectural plant like that,

0:40:06 > 0:40:08especially on something quite minimal.

0:40:08 > 0:40:09Big dance area for you.

0:40:09 > 0:40:12- This is absolutely lovely. - Brilliant.

0:40:12 > 0:40:15- And the decking over here. - Yes, so come and...

0:40:16 > 0:40:19This is the chill-out zone around here.

0:40:19 > 0:40:21- I'll be happy with that. - Oh, look at the plants.

0:40:21 > 0:40:25So, yeah, we've gone for the big contrast between the lime green

0:40:25 > 0:40:29of the bananas and we thought the black turf lily,

0:40:29 > 0:40:32they come up with little white, purple flowers.

0:40:32 > 0:40:35It looks like they love that little area around the corner, the decking.

0:40:35 > 0:40:37I think it just makes it a bit cosy, doesn't it?

0:40:37 > 0:40:39The really cool seating area.

0:40:39 > 0:40:42And then we've got your water feature, and what's in the top?

0:40:42 > 0:40:44- Give it a little pinch.- Go on.

0:40:47 > 0:40:50- Mint for my mojito.- Mojitos.

0:40:50 > 0:40:54- Loving the mint, look at that. - A nice smell.

0:40:54 > 0:40:56Yeah, nice, that's quite cool, isn't it?

0:40:56 > 0:40:58- A bit of sensory.- Yeah. - Overload of sensory,

0:40:58 > 0:41:00you've got smell and you've got sight and you've got sound.

0:41:00 > 0:41:04So, then we wander to your boardwalk,

0:41:04 > 0:41:08and you'll see a dry riverbed with your grove of olives.

0:41:08 > 0:41:10- It's just great, isn't it? - And look at the olive trees,

0:41:10 > 0:41:12they look so much healthier already.

0:41:12 > 0:41:17Already. So, this is going to be a very jungly walkway through.

0:41:17 > 0:41:18Wow.

0:41:18 > 0:41:23And wander down to the very chillaxed zone at the bottom here.

0:41:23 > 0:41:26They're walking down to the bespoke fence.

0:41:26 > 0:41:29Admiring our handiwork, mate. We should be pleased.

0:41:29 > 0:41:32- FLEUR:- That's so different and amazing.

0:41:32 > 0:41:34The plants, as well, in between.

0:41:34 > 0:41:38It's just so different, rather than just having hedges or fencing.

0:41:38 > 0:41:40- Absolutely great.- It's so creative.

0:41:40 > 0:41:44But if you pop yourself down there, and then look back through,

0:41:44 > 0:41:46you can see the party happening,

0:41:46 > 0:41:49but you don't have to join in if you don't want to.

0:41:49 > 0:41:52- Brilliant.- Oh, that is superb.

0:41:52 > 0:41:54- It's fantastic. - Absolutely brilliant.

0:41:54 > 0:41:57Well, they seem to love it, which is a fantastic result.

0:41:57 > 0:42:00Really nice. And I think, you know, beautiful house, dragging that out,

0:42:00 > 0:42:02beautiful garden, great work.

0:42:06 > 0:42:09So, now that everyone has packed up and gone,

0:42:09 > 0:42:12do Fleur and Richard still think that Charlie has delivered

0:42:12 > 0:42:16what they dreamed of?

0:42:16 > 0:42:19You had a vision of Ibiza. The wow. The whiteness.

0:42:19 > 0:42:20And the big plants.

0:42:20 > 0:42:22And I think they've nailed it.

0:42:27 > 0:42:30The party aspect of the garden is brilliant.

0:42:30 > 0:42:31It's big.

0:42:31 > 0:42:34It's got enough space for us all to sit out there.

0:42:34 > 0:42:36We can't wait to have lots of people round.

0:42:36 > 0:42:41Yes, it's going to be brilliant, absolutely brilliant for parties.

0:42:41 > 0:42:46£4,000 is a lot of money to spend on your outdoor entertainment space.

0:42:46 > 0:42:49So, was it money well spent?

0:42:49 > 0:42:52The budget went further than I thought it would go, you know,

0:42:52 > 0:42:54with the paving and the planting, well, it's just wow.

0:42:54 > 0:42:58Everything was better than we thought, so it's brilliant.
