0:00:04 > 0:00:07In Britain, we have an amazing array of places we call home.

0:00:07 > 0:00:09From thatched cottages and conversions

0:00:09 > 0:00:12to terraced housing and tower blocks.

0:00:12 > 0:00:15But when it comes to interior design,

0:00:15 > 0:00:18we don't always make the best of the rooms we live in.

0:00:18 > 0:00:22So, 24 amateur designers competed against each other, to show us

0:00:22 > 0:00:24how it should be done.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27I'm so annoyed!

0:00:27 > 0:00:29It's been a spanner in the works.

0:00:29 > 0:00:33They took on a variety of rooms. From kitchens, to bedrooms...

0:00:33 > 0:00:36It's starting to look like a room! Hurrah!

0:00:36 > 0:00:38..sitting rooms to dining rooms...

0:00:38 > 0:00:41So this is the "ta-da" moment!

0:00:42 > 0:00:46It's the final of the competition and only two designers remain.

0:00:46 > 0:00:49Both have shown exceptional flair and creativity.

0:00:49 > 0:00:53Now they're taking on a whole house each on the same street.

0:00:53 > 0:00:58I'm just excited, it's such a big challenge but I'm ready for it.

0:00:58 > 0:01:03I'm still pretty amazed that I'm here. I'm really properly nervous.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05Deciding who has the talent to win are president elect

0:01:05 > 0:01:09of the British Institute of Interior Design, Daniel Hopwood.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12The standard of the finalists is very high, not only are

0:01:12 > 0:01:17they very adaptable but they have a recognisable, sophisticated style.

0:01:17 > 0:01:21And interior stylist and magazine journalist Sophie Robinson.

0:01:21 > 0:01:26We've got two talented designers with very different skillsets.

0:01:26 > 0:01:29They've worked so hard to be here, honing their skills on each

0:01:29 > 0:01:33of the rounds, but now only one of them can design their way to victory

0:01:33 > 0:01:36and come out as the winner of the Great Interior Design Challenge.

0:01:44 > 0:01:48For their final challenge, our amateurs will each be redesigning

0:01:48 > 0:01:51three rooms and a hallway in two Georgian houses in Liverpool.

0:01:52 > 0:01:55Working in different houses to different briefs,

0:01:55 > 0:01:58this is their most challenging project to date.

0:01:58 > 0:02:01The architecture and the period might be a bit of a challenge.

0:02:01 > 0:02:03The worst bit is the bit with the door in.

0:02:03 > 0:02:06He's got a green cloth that I don't want, that's the problem.

0:02:06 > 0:02:10They need to build, paint, sew and style

0:02:10 > 0:02:13their way to prove their design is the best.

0:02:13 > 0:02:17And the winner of the Great Interior Design Challenge is...

0:02:21 > 0:02:25This imposing Georgian terrace was built in 1827, in what was

0:02:25 > 0:02:28then the industrial outskirts of Liverpool, and after the fripperies

0:02:28 > 0:02:32of the Regency period the decade before, represents a sober end to

0:02:32 > 0:02:36the Georgian period that dominated British architecture for 120 years.

0:02:38 > 0:02:40By the 19th century, Liverpool had become an international

0:02:40 > 0:02:43trading hub, dealing with commodities such as salt

0:02:43 > 0:02:47and tobacco and the cotton that fed the textile mills of Lancashire.

0:02:49 > 0:02:52This terrace was built from the profits of industrialists,

0:02:52 > 0:02:53shipbuilders, and merchants,

0:02:53 > 0:02:57who turned to house building as a new business venture and created

0:02:57 > 0:03:00these streets as much to make even more profit

0:03:00 > 0:03:01as any love for urban living.

0:03:05 > 0:03:09It's two of these houses our finalists are redesigning,

0:03:09 > 0:03:10in their bid to win.

0:03:14 > 0:03:17Our first finalist is 30-year-old Jordan who lives in south London

0:03:17 > 0:03:19with partner Russell.

0:03:19 > 0:03:22It feels amazing to get this far in the competition,

0:03:22 > 0:03:24I always said from the start

0:03:24 > 0:03:28I was in it to get to the final, and to actually be here is amazing.

0:03:28 > 0:03:31Jordan's job is running a cafe, so designing interiors for real

0:03:31 > 0:03:35clients for the first time has been a challenge.

0:03:35 > 0:03:38I think I've worked so hard and harder each week.

0:03:38 > 0:03:44To have come as close to this as I have is amazing

0:03:44 > 0:03:48but I just want to go that extra mile now and cross that finish line.

0:03:48 > 0:03:50He's tried lots of things in his life

0:03:50 > 0:03:52and perhaps this could be the one,

0:03:52 > 0:03:55and I think if he was to win this, it would

0:03:55 > 0:03:57absolutely mean the world to him.

0:03:57 > 0:03:59My family will be over the moon if I win,

0:03:59 > 0:04:01it's the icing on the cake, isn't it?

0:04:04 > 0:04:09- Also competing for the title is 41-year-old Sarah...- Dad's in.

0:04:09 > 0:04:12..who lives in West Sussex with her husband and three children.

0:04:12 > 0:04:15It's pretty amazing to have made it to the final,

0:04:15 > 0:04:18I feel like I've come a long way.

0:04:18 > 0:04:21Sarah designs vintage homewares for a living,

0:04:21 > 0:04:25but delivering an entire room scheme has tested her creativity.

0:04:25 > 0:04:29You definitely feel like you've got to pull something extra out

0:04:29 > 0:04:32of the bag. This is the final week, it can't just be nice or lovely

0:04:32 > 0:04:37or sweet, it's got to be amazing and outstanding and eye-catching.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40'She's worked incredibly hard. Sarah's had to run the house'

0:04:40 > 0:04:45and look after the children as well as putting her back into this.

0:04:45 > 0:04:48So, it's been chaos but she's done really well.

0:04:48 > 0:04:52From a personal point of view, I can't even think about what it would

0:04:52 > 0:04:54be like to win, it'd be fantastic

0:04:54 > 0:04:58but that is a long way away.

0:05:01 > 0:05:04Now both Sarah and Jordan have come to Liverpool for their final

0:05:04 > 0:05:06design showdown.

0:05:06 > 0:05:10Well, you two, you've got through to the final, the big one, well done!

0:05:10 > 0:05:13You've worked so hard but we're going to ask a bit more of you -

0:05:13 > 0:05:15you've got to work a little bit harder!

0:05:15 > 0:05:18You've got three rooms and a hallway to do.

0:05:18 > 0:05:20Exactly. I think you've probably

0:05:20 > 0:05:24realised by now that we rather like what you do. So, confidence,

0:05:24 > 0:05:28give us lots of style and more of what you're really talented at.

0:05:28 > 0:05:31Yeah, we're particularly excited to see your designs,

0:05:31 > 0:05:34we already think you're great designers but given the extra

0:05:34 > 0:05:38rooms it really is an opportunity for you to show us your best.

0:05:43 > 0:05:46The first home belongs to Andrew, Gaynor

0:05:46 > 0:05:49and their two children, Rosie and Tom.

0:05:49 > 0:05:51When we first moved in, I loved it.

0:05:51 > 0:05:56It was very blank and lots of space for us to do what we wanted

0:05:56 > 0:05:58but we haven't got round to it.

0:05:58 > 0:06:01We filled the house with our stuff basically,

0:06:01 > 0:06:03put some pictures up, I think

0:06:03 > 0:06:07that's the token concession to home improvement, really, in three years.

0:06:07 > 0:06:09Before the designers start,

0:06:09 > 0:06:12the judges want to see the potential of each house.

0:06:13 > 0:06:17My first impression is this is quite a neat, standard-sized hallway.

0:06:17 > 0:06:21Yeah, well, actually, they're quite narrow but that's what they always

0:06:21 > 0:06:24were like, just a passing through room really and they've got

0:06:24 > 0:06:27radiator cupboards which are taking a lot of the width up too.

0:06:27 > 0:06:30I notice they've got a little bit of originality

0:06:30 > 0:06:32which are the corbels up here.

0:06:32 > 0:06:35What's really super about the Georgian period is all those

0:06:35 > 0:06:38decorative elements weren't decorative, they were doing a job.

0:06:38 > 0:06:42Hiding the movement that's going between the two plains from the

0:06:42 > 0:06:46beam and the wall, and if there's any cracking, you won't see it.

0:06:46 > 0:06:50You could really go for it as it's not like you have to stare and look at it.

0:06:50 > 0:06:53It's an opportunity for our designers to do something, maybe, quite daring.

0:06:53 > 0:06:55The house has had many changes over the years,

0:06:55 > 0:06:59so many original features have been lost.

0:06:59 > 0:07:03The first thing that hits me about this room is it feels very tall,

0:07:03 > 0:07:04the proportions feel quite out.

0:07:04 > 0:07:07That's because all the mouldings are missing, the cornice,

0:07:07 > 0:07:10the picture rail, it just feels a bit sad.

0:07:10 > 0:07:13So all those period features that unfortunately have been

0:07:13 > 0:07:16ripped out of this property has actually just really affected

0:07:16 > 0:07:18the whole general proportion and feel of this space.

0:07:18 > 0:07:21Exactly, but it's not too difficult to put them all back.

0:07:21 > 0:07:24I think the real challenge for the designer in this room is to

0:07:24 > 0:07:27really stamp on an element of design and personality in this room

0:07:27 > 0:07:31and make it a space you really want to hang out in.

0:07:31 > 0:07:33The designer will also be taking on a plain guest

0:07:33 > 0:07:37bedroom-cum-playroom on the first floor.

0:07:37 > 0:07:40And a children's bedroom on the second floor belonging to

0:07:40 > 0:07:42nine-year-old Rosie.

0:07:42 > 0:07:44So, being the final,

0:07:44 > 0:07:46they've certainly got a big challenge ahead of them.

0:07:48 > 0:07:52The finalist in charge of this first house is Jordan,

0:07:52 > 0:07:54who's shown a flair for imaginative design.

0:07:54 > 0:07:58In his heat, he played with paint techniques, blending

0:07:58 > 0:08:02furniture into walls and added a dramatic mural and period panelling.

0:08:03 > 0:08:07Next he went all-out to prove he could work with strong colours and

0:08:07 > 0:08:11bold pattern, before winning his place in the final with a cutting

0:08:11 > 0:08:16edge design using origami wallpaper, magnetic paint and geometric prints.

0:08:18 > 0:08:21Now his challenge is to get some character into this Georgian home.

0:08:21 > 0:08:23Are you ready for a little look?

0:08:23 > 0:08:25We are, we are, very ready for a look!

0:08:25 > 0:08:27Right, well, we'll start here...

0:08:27 > 0:08:30He's been working on his homeowners' brief for a week,

0:08:30 > 0:08:33but this is the first time they're meeting.

0:08:33 > 0:08:34He starts with the hallway.

0:08:34 > 0:08:36It's a massive statement as you walk through the door.

0:08:36 > 0:08:39- I mean, the ceiling height's... - First impression, isn't it?

0:08:39 > 0:08:42Absolutely, and really soft, subtle colours with the heritage,

0:08:42 > 0:08:44a darker green on the bottom and a paler one on the top.

0:08:44 > 0:08:47The two radiator covers that you've got existing, I'm going to be

0:08:47 > 0:08:50disguising those and doing two built-ins so there's somewhere

0:08:50 > 0:08:54to hide all of your everyday junk, coats, things like that and a

0:08:54 > 0:08:58nice little seat so you can pop your wellies on for a wintry day.

0:08:58 > 0:09:01People will not want to go anywhere else apart from the hall,

0:09:01 > 0:09:03we'll be having parties in the hallway.

0:09:03 > 0:09:06He'll give the practical hallway a homely feel,

0:09:06 > 0:09:09with soft green paint, panelling, and pictures.

0:09:09 > 0:09:12A theme he'll continue in the currently featureless living room.

0:09:12 > 0:09:15I know you were keen to get some architectural features

0:09:15 > 0:09:18back into the house, so we're going full throttle here.

0:09:18 > 0:09:20There's going to be a fireplace with some...

0:09:20 > 0:09:22I have hand painted tiles for you.

0:09:22 > 0:09:25I know you were keen on a sort of cornflower blue, which is

0:09:25 > 0:09:28going to be going on the bottom half of the room,

0:09:28 > 0:09:31and we're going to panel the entire room halfway around which,

0:09:31 > 0:09:33hopefully, is going to look stunning as well.

0:09:33 > 0:09:36A beautiful mural which is going onto the piano wall, which is

0:09:36 > 0:09:38like a countryside scene, because I know you were

0:09:38 > 0:09:41interested in that sort of country look, sort of heritage feel.

0:09:41 > 0:09:43- Just what we wanted, so perfect!- Fantastic!

0:09:43 > 0:09:47- We love all those sort of Georgian colour palates...- Yeah, me too.

0:09:47 > 0:09:51The period details and blue scheme will create drama in the front room.

0:09:51 > 0:09:55He has equally bold plans for the guest-cum-playroom.

0:09:55 > 0:09:58It's going to be really restful and sort of peaceful at the same time,

0:09:58 > 0:10:01it's going to be able to flip and be a great playroom for the kids.

0:10:01 > 0:10:04And this is the sort of fabric and colours that I'm going to be using.

0:10:04 > 0:10:06Stripes are obviously going to be vertical as well

0:10:06 > 0:10:09so it's really going to make the most of that, really high ceilings,

0:10:09 > 0:10:12and we're keeping the day bed that you have, these are going to

0:10:12 > 0:10:15be supersized willow trees that are going to frame that. So, it's going

0:10:15 > 0:10:18to feel quite ethereal and magical and fun for the kids but then...

0:10:18 > 0:10:19Like Narnia?

0:10:19 > 0:10:23Yeah, but then transformed into a really smart, restful guest room.

0:10:23 > 0:10:25Not too shocking, I hope!

0:10:25 > 0:10:28No, it's beautiful, that's really beautiful.

0:10:28 > 0:10:32His stripy design for this rooms may have a fairy-tale feel,

0:10:32 > 0:10:36but his most dramatic scheme will be in nine-year-old Rosie's bedroom.

0:10:36 > 0:10:38I know she loves purples, and pinks.

0:10:38 > 0:10:43We've got an amazing wallpaper which is going onto one wall, which again

0:10:43 > 0:10:46is hand printed and I've got a chair that I'm going to be upholstering.

0:10:46 > 0:10:48I'm going to be building a little wardrobe in there

0:10:48 > 0:10:51and a new desk. I've got some really interesting ideas with

0:10:51 > 0:10:54some floating book shelves, I'll keep that as a bit of a surprise

0:10:54 > 0:10:56maybe for later, cos I know she's a bit of a bookworm.

0:10:56 > 0:10:57- Oh, she certainly is.- Yes.

0:10:57 > 0:10:59A room that she can grow into a little bit as well.

0:10:59 > 0:11:01They're lovely, she's going to love this.

0:11:01 > 0:11:03You have managed to do a whole pile of things

0:11:03 > 0:11:06- I would never have thought of doing. - I'm very excited, thank you.

0:11:06 > 0:11:08- Fabulous!- Amazing!

0:11:08 > 0:11:11Jordan is a true showman, not only in his style

0:11:11 > 0:11:12but also in his presentation.

0:11:12 > 0:11:15He tapped into the heritage of the Georgian period

0:11:15 > 0:11:19and putting in some sense of authenticity back into the home,

0:11:19 > 0:11:20they loved it!

0:11:20 > 0:11:23Yeah, but I am a little bit concerned we're seeing panel,

0:11:23 > 0:11:26which he's done before, we've seen the tableaus on the wall.

0:11:26 > 0:11:29It's part of his repertoire, I know, but I'm hoping we're not getting

0:11:29 > 0:11:32a repeat because I want to see something new from him this time.

0:11:33 > 0:11:38For the final, both designers have 72 hours spread across four days,

0:11:38 > 0:11:42£4,400, two builders and a decorator to complete their designs.

0:11:42 > 0:11:45Yeah, I think it's going to look amazing if we can pull it off...

0:11:45 > 0:11:47- When we pull it off! - Of course we can.

0:11:47 > 0:11:49And they can bring support from home,

0:11:49 > 0:11:51so Jordan's brought partner Russell.

0:11:51 > 0:11:54It's so much to take on board that, yeah, if I stop

0:11:54 > 0:11:57and think too much about it, I think I might fall over.

0:12:00 > 0:12:03Our second Georgian house is home to Tracy, Jim

0:12:03 > 0:12:05and their three young children.

0:12:05 > 0:12:09Our house at the moment is many styles, actually,

0:12:09 > 0:12:12each room has a character of its own.

0:12:12 > 0:12:15There's lots of different things going on in the house, I think.

0:12:15 > 0:12:18If the designer can capture elements of Jim

0:12:18 > 0:12:20and I, then I will be very pleased.

0:12:22 > 0:12:25Now this is a grand hallway, is it not?

0:12:25 > 0:12:28I'm just seeing original features everywhere I look in here.

0:12:28 > 0:12:32And this is classic of this period, having the square in the corners.

0:12:32 > 0:12:34And up on the top there

0:12:34 > 0:12:37they might have put plates or little busts and things.

0:12:37 > 0:12:40But in terms of design, you need to think about quite cost effective

0:12:40 > 0:12:43solutions for big hallways. Well, any hallway, really.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46Because hallways also require a lot of practical solutions.

0:12:46 > 0:12:48This is a busy family, young kids,

0:12:48 > 0:12:51we can already see it takes a lot of knocks.

0:12:51 > 0:12:54So you probably want to veer away from expensive wall coverings

0:12:54 > 0:12:57or designer paints because they need touching up.

0:12:57 > 0:12:59Normally, I'd use fabric backed wallpapers in a hallway,

0:12:59 > 0:13:02they usually work quite well.

0:13:02 > 0:13:06And what an elegant room this is. Packed with original features,

0:13:06 > 0:13:08typical of Georgian houses.

0:13:08 > 0:13:10During the time of window tax,

0:13:10 > 0:13:13if you went over seven windows, you started paying high tax.

0:13:13 > 0:13:18So instead of having lots of windows they just used to make them bigger.

0:13:18 > 0:13:23Actually, just looking over here, they've got the original shutters.

0:13:23 > 0:13:25How stunning is that?

0:13:26 > 0:13:29The two upstairs rooms to be redesigned are a sparse

0:13:29 > 0:13:33guest room occasionally used by visiting grandparents,

0:13:33 > 0:13:37and nine-year-old Charlie's plain white bedroom.

0:13:38 > 0:13:41And I've spotted something that would intimidate any interior

0:13:41 > 0:13:45designer - a huge stack of very stylish interior design books.

0:13:45 > 0:13:50So, I think the biggest challenge is meeting the client's expectations.

0:13:52 > 0:13:56Taking on the challenge is vintage homewares designer Sarah.

0:13:58 > 0:14:02Throughout the competition, she's used her craft skills,

0:14:02 > 0:14:05stencilling, upholstering and painting her way through her

0:14:05 > 0:14:08heat in a traditional Edwardian bedroom.

0:14:10 > 0:14:12She brought more creative, handmade ideas to a sitting

0:14:12 > 0:14:17room in a country cottage, with a woodland design with modern edge.

0:14:17 > 0:14:20Before securing her place in the final with a bolder look,

0:14:20 > 0:14:25introducing wallpaper and bright colours to a Victorian dining room.

0:14:25 > 0:14:28The judges want to see more versatility from Sarah, and

0:14:28 > 0:14:30with the house already in good order,

0:14:30 > 0:14:32it'll be tough to make her mark.

0:14:32 > 0:14:34We're going to start with the hallway, I know first

0:14:34 > 0:14:38impressions are important and I thought bold, simple...

0:14:38 > 0:14:40I know you said you wanted some welcoming colours.

0:14:40 > 0:14:43- Yes.- The lovely, dark colour...- Indeed.

0:14:43 > 0:14:44..and then a stripe above that

0:14:44 > 0:14:47and then the whole of the rest of the hallway in this colour here.

0:14:47 > 0:14:49I like that idea.

0:14:49 > 0:14:51The three tones of grey will soften the black

0:14:51 > 0:14:53and white chequerboard floor, while she's aiming for a more

0:14:53 > 0:14:56dramatic look in the front sitting and dining room.

0:14:56 > 0:14:59You're after something quite gentlemanly and clubby.

0:14:59 > 0:15:01I know that you said you were interested in thinking

0:15:01 > 0:15:05about a snooker table that could be metamorphic for a dining table.

0:15:05 > 0:15:08I have actually found one that has ball and claw feet.

0:15:08 > 0:15:11This one's quite unusual and it comes with slats that go over

0:15:11 > 0:15:14the top to turn it into a very straightforward dining table.

0:15:14 > 0:15:18- Oh, wonderful!- I am thinking about putting glass into your shelving

0:15:18 > 0:15:21so your beautiful collection of books can just sing out

0:15:21 > 0:15:23and it can be all about the books in there.

0:15:23 > 0:15:27Colour-wise, now I know you've said you'd like some grey...

0:15:27 > 0:15:31I was hoping that I could persuade you with some olive green.

0:15:31 > 0:15:33No, no, that would actually have been my second choice.

0:15:33 > 0:15:36Mixing traditional with modern elements like a copper light

0:15:36 > 0:15:40and glass shelving is a tried and tested look for Sarah,

0:15:40 > 0:15:43but her plans for Charlie's bedroom are a radical departure.

0:15:43 > 0:15:46What I would like to do is run a stripe around his room,

0:15:46 > 0:15:48like the go-faster stripes.

0:15:48 > 0:15:50That is the green here.

0:15:50 > 0:15:54This is the green. I'm very, very fond of apple green.

0:15:54 > 0:15:57- If we took it up a stage... - Yeah, that's fine.

0:15:57 > 0:16:00- Yeah.- I'll go and get that mixed, not a problem, we can sort that out.

0:16:00 > 0:16:02Would that be all right? Could you address that?

0:16:02 > 0:16:04- Yes, that's absolutely fine. - I love apple green.

0:16:04 > 0:16:07I've thought about making a bunk bed that is sort of a cabin bed,

0:16:07 > 0:16:08has some shelving inside it...

0:16:08 > 0:16:09Ooh, lovely!

0:16:09 > 0:16:13..and that, I was hoping to paint the interiors green as well

0:16:13 > 0:16:15and leave all the outsides white.

0:16:16 > 0:16:19A rug, I love old things and I make a lot of stuff out of vintage

0:16:19 > 0:16:22materials, and I've made some pebbles that I'm going to sew

0:16:22 > 0:16:26together into a lovely textured big pebble rug.

0:16:26 > 0:16:28This sounds exciting!

0:16:28 > 0:16:30The look will be modern, with a green stripe dominating

0:16:30 > 0:16:34the room from floor to ceiling, and a slide for toy cars.

0:16:34 > 0:16:38But she's back on more familiar territory in the guest room.

0:16:38 > 0:16:40- I've had a blue moment. - You're having a blue moment.

0:16:40 > 0:16:45Now this is a fantastic Georgian drawing room blue, which is bold.

0:16:45 > 0:16:47Now I don't know how you feel about that?

0:16:47 > 0:16:49- Go for it!- Really?

0:16:49 > 0:16:50Absolutely, go for it!

0:16:50 > 0:16:53And I would like if possible to run shelving all the way around the

0:16:53 > 0:16:57room and I have some Shaker-style pegs that I'd like to put a run

0:16:57 > 0:17:00in around the room so that you can hang towels, your guests can hang

0:17:00 > 0:17:03up their clothes and it's something that it's not a wardrobe, it's

0:17:03 > 0:17:06not taking up space in the room but it's there for whatever you need it.

0:17:06 > 0:17:09- Very excited! - I'm absolutely amazed that you've let us into your home and

0:17:09 > 0:17:12I feel the full weight of it on my shoulders, so I'm going to really...

0:17:12 > 0:17:15- I think you'll deliver. - I hope so!

0:17:15 > 0:17:18Tracy and Jim know what they like, they've got really good taste.

0:17:18 > 0:17:20They think it's going to be fun to bring in a new designer.

0:17:20 > 0:17:25But Tracy's already pointed out, she already knows what colour she likes, she knows what design she likes

0:17:25 > 0:17:27and she's going to push Sarah all the way.

0:17:27 > 0:17:31She's got a client who wants to be tested, let's say.

0:17:31 > 0:17:34So I'm just hoping she'll go for it and just grabs it.

0:17:36 > 0:17:39Along with her two builders and decorator,

0:17:39 > 0:17:41Sarah's brought along best friend Maxine.

0:17:41 > 0:17:45The plan is to take out the bottom cupboard and the rest of in here

0:17:45 > 0:17:48is just a paint down and it's going to this olive green.

0:17:48 > 0:17:50The biggest challenge I have here is the house has got such

0:17:50 > 0:17:53fantastic things in it and the homeowners have got such

0:17:53 > 0:17:56great taste that it is just so important not

0:17:56 > 0:18:00to put anything past their door that is anything other than fantastic.

0:18:00 > 0:18:02So that might have to come out.

0:18:02 > 0:18:04Both houses are being packed up

0:18:04 > 0:18:07and stripped back in preparation for their brand-new schemes.

0:18:07 > 0:18:09Sorry, Barbie!

0:18:09 > 0:18:12With four designs each, the finalists are under pressure.

0:18:13 > 0:18:16So, judges, what are the challenges for the final?

0:18:16 > 0:18:19The architecture and the period might be a bit of a challenge,

0:18:19 > 0:18:21wouldn't you say, Sophie?

0:18:21 > 0:18:23Yes, especially in Tracy and Jim's house.

0:18:23 > 0:18:26They've got a very grand house, lots of original period features.

0:18:26 > 0:18:30So, in one way, it's a gift for Sarah because it's a beautiful

0:18:30 > 0:18:32house already but I think the challenge for her is going to

0:18:32 > 0:18:36be having happy clients because they've got quite high expectations.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39Gaynor and Andrew have a very simple home, everything's been

0:18:39 > 0:18:42ripped out, so it's kind of a white box, really, and in terms of the

0:18:42 > 0:18:45brief, they didn't give much away. They want something simple, elegant,

0:18:45 > 0:18:48classic and they've got Jordan coming in to design it for them!

0:18:48 > 0:18:52Yeah, they didn't realise they'd get a little bit of pizzazz.

0:18:52 > 0:18:54To add the pizzazz in his guest-cum-playroom,

0:18:54 > 0:18:57Jordan's decorator is measuring out stripes.

0:18:58 > 0:19:00For his traditional scheme in the front room,

0:19:00 > 0:19:02he's adding period details.

0:19:02 > 0:19:06So far, so good. No breakages, which is good!

0:19:07 > 0:19:10Oh, hang on, spoke too soon.

0:19:10 > 0:19:12One, one out of 60's not bad.

0:19:12 > 0:19:17The tiles will make up the centre of the fireplace.

0:19:17 > 0:19:20This is the back plate for the fireplace. Obviously,

0:19:20 > 0:19:24the surround's going to be there and the fire basket will sit here.

0:19:24 > 0:19:27He's bought a £5 pack of basic bathroom tiles,

0:19:27 > 0:19:30and is hand-painting them with glass paint.

0:19:30 > 0:19:34I've only painted about half of them so, yeah, I've got a few more to do.

0:19:34 > 0:19:38It dries pretty quickly but I've got a second blue layer to put on.

0:19:38 > 0:19:40So, there's going to be two colours.

0:19:40 > 0:19:42I find it quite relaxing.

0:19:47 > 0:19:49In Sarah's guest room, best friend Maxine

0:19:49 > 0:19:51is painting the walls bold blue.

0:19:51 > 0:19:54While in the hallway a runner is fitted.

0:19:54 > 0:19:57It looks good, doesn't it? Thank you so much.

0:19:57 > 0:19:59For her gentlemen's club themed front room,

0:19:59 > 0:20:02the main focus is a second-hand snooker table.

0:20:02 > 0:20:04One, two, three!

0:20:04 > 0:20:07The table cost £275.

0:20:07 > 0:20:11She plans to change the baize top, but there's a problem.

0:20:11 > 0:20:14I started off trying to get hold of orange baize

0:20:14 > 0:20:17and then I think it was out of stock so we went for sage green

0:20:17 > 0:20:18and then the courier's lost it.

0:20:18 > 0:20:21He's got a green cloth that I don't want, that's the problem.

0:20:21 > 0:20:23There is a cloth here but it's the wrong colour and I've

0:20:23 > 0:20:26designed around a whole room around having a sage green snooker table.

0:20:26 > 0:20:29It's a total nightmare because we were hoping for it to

0:20:29 > 0:20:32be in scheme with the rest of the room but it looks like it's

0:20:32 > 0:20:35now going to be green, which is a bit disappointing.

0:20:35 > 0:20:37It's not the only issue with her design.

0:20:37 > 0:20:39None of the glass shelves fit in here,

0:20:39 > 0:20:44because it's an old house and all the walls are different shapes.

0:20:44 > 0:20:47I've reordered the glass and it's going to be turning up

0:20:47 > 0:20:50at midday on Monday which is really late because we finish at two.

0:20:50 > 0:20:54So if the glass doesn't fit, we are going to have empty cupboards

0:20:54 > 0:20:58and no books in here, which is a total nightmare.

0:20:58 > 0:21:03Things are going well with Jordan as the hallway walls are prepped

0:21:03 > 0:21:08and guest room ceiling painted, so he gets on reupholstering

0:21:08 > 0:21:11a second-hand £10 chair with off-cuts of material.

0:21:11 > 0:21:15This is for Rosie's room, I'm going to be making a nice little

0:21:15 > 0:21:17reading corner with this beautiful chair

0:21:17 > 0:21:19and some floating book shelves.

0:21:20 > 0:21:25So you staple the fabric in first, into that hole, which is why

0:21:25 > 0:21:28it's quite tricky because you're basically having to go all

0:21:28 > 0:21:30the way round, then you put the foam, then another piece on top.

0:21:32 > 0:21:36You basically have to place it in place and staple around,

0:21:36 > 0:21:39and then you glue the ribbon trim here, just over all the rough edges,

0:21:39 > 0:21:43so it really finishes it off quite beautifully.

0:21:44 > 0:21:45There you go!

0:21:51 > 0:21:53It's the end of day one.

0:21:53 > 0:21:58It hasn't been perfect, the snooker table is a disaster.

0:21:58 > 0:22:00Half my budget is going in this room

0:22:00 > 0:22:03and it needs to look really good and I'm really disappointed.

0:22:03 > 0:22:07We've got two whole days, it's got some way to go at the moment.

0:22:17 > 0:22:21It's the start of the second day and the final's well under way.

0:22:21 > 0:22:26Jordan's managed to start some of his tile detailing but Sarah's still painting.

0:22:26 > 0:22:28There's still clearly a long, long way to go.

0:22:35 > 0:22:37I'd really like it to feel like it's,

0:22:37 > 0:22:41we're going to nail this, OK? Fab, thanks ever so much.

0:22:43 > 0:22:46For his stripy design in the guest-cum-playroom,

0:22:46 > 0:22:48the walls are fiddly.

0:22:48 > 0:22:51I'm loving the stripes in here, and the ceiling's been painted

0:22:51 > 0:22:54already which looks fantastic, so that's great.

0:22:54 > 0:22:59That's quite time consuming so it's good to get that on the way as well.

0:23:01 > 0:23:02While the decorator carries on,

0:23:02 > 0:23:05Jordan's adding period detail to the front room.

0:23:07 > 0:23:09It says in my brief they would like a panelled wall.

0:23:09 > 0:23:13One there, one in there, one there.

0:23:17 > 0:23:19We're steaming ahead in here now, the dado rail has gone up

0:23:19 > 0:23:22and the fireplace is in, which is really exciting.

0:23:22 > 0:23:26We're going to carry on with the panelling and then move on

0:23:26 > 0:23:31and finish the painting in here hopefully by the end of today.

0:23:32 > 0:23:34After her slow start yesterday,

0:23:34 > 0:23:36Sarah's taking control in her guest room.

0:23:36 > 0:23:39Clean the skirting, make the bed cover,

0:23:39 > 0:23:41check the bed in sideways and finish the door.

0:23:41 > 0:23:45- Boy's room...- So the desk I'm thinking is in here...

0:23:45 > 0:23:46..and front room.

0:23:46 > 0:23:49How's that paint? Is it?

0:23:49 > 0:23:51Yeah, that's perfect.

0:23:51 > 0:23:54To enhance her gentlemen's club look,

0:23:54 > 0:23:56Sarah plans to create a bespoke industrial light fitting.

0:23:56 > 0:24:00What I was thinking about is making a copper frame, a rectangle,

0:24:00 > 0:24:03a bit like the old-fashioned snooker light but then seeing

0:24:03 > 0:24:07if I can get some bulbs to drop out of it, so six bulbs and I

0:24:07 > 0:24:11know you can get the filament bulbs that look really old-fashioned.

0:24:13 > 0:24:17Basically I've got some copper piping, and what I would like

0:24:17 > 0:24:22to do is feed some wires through and have three bulbs on each side.

0:24:22 > 0:24:24Do you want a solid core cable running through?

0:24:24 > 0:24:27- You tell me.- Great.

0:24:27 > 0:24:31I need a jigsaw puzzle to get somebody to go and put back together, if that's all right.

0:24:31 > 0:24:33I'm sure this will work,

0:24:33 > 0:24:37how hard can it be to make a bespoke industrial light on a tight budget?

0:24:37 > 0:24:42The fittings and electrician to wire it will cost £200.

0:24:42 > 0:24:45Jordan's also out and about creating something

0:24:45 > 0:24:47personal for his design in the hallway.

0:24:47 > 0:24:51I've got some frames that I'm going to put up in the hallway,

0:24:51 > 0:24:54in quite a formal formation, and I just wanted to do some

0:24:54 > 0:24:57sketches of some sort of local landmarks, really.

0:24:57 > 0:25:01To create something that's special and individual to them

0:25:01 > 0:25:03is really nice.

0:25:08 > 0:25:12These Georgian Liverpool streets owe their existence to the rich

0:25:12 > 0:25:14businessmen of the day.

0:25:14 > 0:25:16Edward Falkner, who bought and developed the square,

0:25:16 > 0:25:18is something of a local legend.

0:25:18 > 0:25:22At the tender age of 28, he became high sheriff of Liverpool.

0:25:22 > 0:25:25And, a decade later, reacting to the imminent threat of French attack,

0:25:25 > 0:25:30it's said that he rallied 1,000 men in just an hour to defend the port.

0:25:30 > 0:25:32As a result, the French got scared off,

0:25:32 > 0:25:35and Falkner became a national hero.

0:25:40 > 0:25:43It's wonderful to potter round these streets and still see the marks of the past.

0:25:43 > 0:25:47This end of Falkner Street still retains its Georgian cobbles

0:25:47 > 0:25:50and what remains of the old Edwardian tram lines that

0:25:50 > 0:25:54once whooshed down the hill to the city.

0:25:54 > 0:25:58Back at the houses on top of the hill, work continues.

0:25:58 > 0:26:01I'm just trying to have a catch up with what's going on here,

0:26:01 > 0:26:04looks like it had one coat in here, so this is looking lovely.

0:26:04 > 0:26:07There's been a second coat on the blue up in the top bedroom,

0:26:07 > 0:26:10that's great, and painted all round the top of the door

0:26:10 > 0:26:12so that looks really cool, that's nice.

0:26:12 > 0:26:15Walls and floor are done in Charlie's bedroom

0:26:15 > 0:26:17and that's the big build going on for that at the moment.

0:26:17 > 0:26:20Charlie's already white bedroom will be repainted for a modern

0:26:20 > 0:26:23look with '60s-style furniture.

0:26:23 > 0:26:25Basically it's that shape...

0:26:26 > 0:26:30We were asked to put in a bespoke bunk bed but with the time

0:26:30 > 0:26:34and the resources we have available, we've bought in a frame so we know

0:26:34 > 0:26:37that it's safe and we don't have to worry about that side of things.

0:26:37 > 0:26:41It's easier to build so obviously we've got the bars in here,

0:26:41 > 0:26:43and this bit is very cabiny inside.

0:26:43 > 0:26:46Sarah originally trained as a chef,

0:26:46 > 0:26:51but now wants to use her creative skills as an interior designer.

0:26:51 > 0:26:54So, Sarah, how much do you really want to win the competition?

0:26:54 > 0:26:56Such a loaded question, isn't it?

0:26:56 > 0:26:58I think you rise to a challenge

0:26:58 > 0:27:02and I think anybody at this stage is going to want to win.

0:27:02 > 0:27:06So whether you win or whether you lose, do you think you'll go on in interior design?

0:27:06 > 0:27:10I can't imagine stopping this, I love it.

0:27:10 > 0:27:13I think just lack of confidence makes you doubt yourself

0:27:13 > 0:27:17sometimes, so that's quite tough sometimes.

0:27:17 > 0:27:19Do you feel a bit more confident now?

0:27:19 > 0:27:20Honestly....

0:27:25 > 0:27:29At Jordan's, he's running the project with precision.

0:27:29 > 0:27:35We're going great guns, everybody's jumped into the sitting room

0:27:35 > 0:27:38so we can get this one pretty much signed off hopefully today

0:27:38 > 0:27:41so that then the guys can move on into the hall

0:27:41 > 0:27:43because we've got a hell of a lot to do there.

0:27:43 > 0:27:45Up in Rosie's room,

0:27:45 > 0:27:48the decoration and wallpapering's pretty much done up there.

0:27:50 > 0:27:53Organised Jordan has pursued various careers.

0:27:53 > 0:27:57He trained as an actor, ran a market stall and has a coffee shop.

0:27:57 > 0:28:00But now he wants to use his artistic skills.

0:28:00 > 0:28:03I really want to win, it is a competition and I'm in it to

0:28:03 > 0:28:07win it, so I've hopefully pulled out all the stops and time will tell.

0:28:07 > 0:28:10You've got this far, do you think whether you win or whether you don't win,

0:28:10 > 0:28:14do you think your future still lies in interior design?

0:28:14 > 0:28:17I hope so, I really hope so, yeah. I think to have come this far,

0:28:17 > 0:28:20I've been through the entire process, essentially.

0:28:20 > 0:28:24So win or lose now, it's definitely the way forward for me, I hope.

0:28:26 > 0:28:29For Sarah's Shaker-style blue guest room, she's getting crafty.

0:28:29 > 0:28:32This is the kind of dye that you normally would put a whole

0:28:32 > 0:28:33load of fabric in a pot with this in it.

0:28:33 > 0:28:36I'm going to use it just like it's a watercolour paint

0:28:36 > 0:28:40and there's four different colours of blue here and I might just

0:28:40 > 0:28:42mix a few together to make, see if I can make one more different one.

0:28:42 > 0:28:48Adding salt to the mix will set the dye so that colours won't run when washed.

0:28:48 > 0:28:51It's lovely to make handmade stuff because you know that there's only

0:28:51 > 0:28:54one of a kind so you're putting something unique

0:28:54 > 0:28:58into the house, and also it is a very cheap way of making something

0:28:58 > 0:29:02hopefully beautiful without having to pay huge amounts of money for it.

0:29:02 > 0:29:05You're not going for fabric paint because with fabric paint

0:29:05 > 0:29:08you'd get quite a different effect, wouldn't you?

0:29:08 > 0:29:11Yeah, I'm trying to make something that's more like a watercolour,

0:29:11 > 0:29:13to get stuff that flows and it's a bit more translucent.

0:29:13 > 0:29:15Yeah, and you get these imperfections,

0:29:15 > 0:29:19- but I think that's what makes it so charming.- I'm hoping they add to it.

0:29:20 > 0:29:24Sarah's signature vintage look is a world away from the cutting edge

0:29:24 > 0:29:27design these houses were built to.

0:29:27 > 0:29:29When these homes were built in the early 19th century,

0:29:29 > 0:29:33they were at the forefront of luxury and design for housing.

0:29:33 > 0:29:37Land this close to the centre of Liverpool was scarce and expensive,

0:29:37 > 0:29:40so the terrace was the most efficient way of packing them in.

0:29:41 > 0:29:46But Liverpool's success as a port had consequences for property growth.

0:29:46 > 0:29:51As shipping exploded, timber was diverted from house building to ship building,

0:29:51 > 0:29:54and brick became far more commonplace as a building material.

0:29:54 > 0:29:57Cottoning onto this in 1784,

0:29:57 > 0:30:00the government introduced a tax on the total number of bricks used in

0:30:00 > 0:30:04a home, but one step ahead, the wily builders simply increased the size

0:30:04 > 0:30:07of the bricks they used so they didn't have to use quite so many.

0:30:10 > 0:30:13With all the features done in Jordan's front room,

0:30:13 > 0:30:14there's just the mural left to do,

0:30:14 > 0:30:19and in the guest-cum-playroom, the stripy walls are also nearly there.

0:30:19 > 0:30:22I rather like this stripe, it's almost like a Regency stripe, in fact.

0:30:22 > 0:30:25Yes, I'd like to do a little modern twist on that.

0:30:25 > 0:30:27Brilliant, and I can see the modern twist goes even

0:30:27 > 0:30:29further by going over the skirting board.

0:30:29 > 0:30:32Absolutely, it would have been amazing if the room had coving.

0:30:32 > 0:30:35I would've liked to have painted over that as well but unfortunately not.

0:30:35 > 0:30:37Then what happens on the ceiling? You've painted it dark!

0:30:37 > 0:30:40Which is quite an unusual thing. Is there a reason behind that?

0:30:40 > 0:30:42Ceiling heights are so high in here

0:30:42 > 0:30:46and I thought it'd be quite nice to have that feeling a bit more cosy.

0:30:48 > 0:30:50In Rosie's room, his bold purple

0:30:50 > 0:30:54and green scheme is taking shape, so he can start on details.

0:30:54 > 0:30:56Yeah, so I would say the first one,

0:30:56 > 0:31:00if I'm just imagining I'm a nine-year-old girl.

0:31:00 > 0:31:04That's it, I'll step back and you hold, yeah, I think that's lovely.

0:31:04 > 0:31:07- Yeah? Should I go with that then? - Go with it.

0:31:07 > 0:31:11The floating book shelves will be made from an old book fixed to a wall bracket.

0:31:11 > 0:31:13There's too many heights, isn't it,

0:31:13 > 0:31:17- because you've got the chair arm and then you've got that... - No, I like it.

0:31:23 > 0:31:28It's the end of day two and Sarah's copper light still needs work.

0:31:28 > 0:31:31The builder's put some holes in here for the flex but I think what

0:31:31 > 0:31:36would be really handy is to try and feed just one line of wire all the

0:31:36 > 0:31:40- way round. Does that sound like you might be able to do that tonight? - Yeah, I'll take it home.

0:31:40 > 0:31:42I really appreciate it, really appreciate it.

0:31:42 > 0:31:44Things are coming together nicely. The majority of stuff

0:31:44 > 0:31:47and all the painting really needs to get finished tomorrow

0:31:47 > 0:31:50because we can't have all the furnishing moving round, there's so

0:31:50 > 0:31:53many people in the house and so much displaced furniture that we just

0:31:53 > 0:31:57need to have everything finished tomorrow night in terms of painting.

0:32:01 > 0:32:04All the build stuff's done in here now, just got to finish

0:32:04 > 0:32:06painting this fireplace, and then we've got the mural to go up which

0:32:06 > 0:32:09I'm actually going to do last thing because I don't want any scuffs or

0:32:09 > 0:32:13paint on that, but apart from that, touch wood, it's going quite well.

0:32:25 > 0:32:29Day three, and both designers are halfway through the competition, but

0:32:29 > 0:32:33with a hallway and three rooms to complete, there's no time to rest.

0:32:33 > 0:32:35There's one day left.

0:32:35 > 0:32:41With just under £4,500 to spend on so many rooms, it's a huge task.

0:32:41 > 0:32:44It's the start of day three and we've had a really slow, quiet

0:32:44 > 0:32:48start because Tracy and Jim are still in bed.

0:32:48 > 0:32:52Sarah's quietly giving a new look to an old rug with ten pounds of felt.

0:32:52 > 0:32:56So what I've done is I've got little circles of vintage blanket

0:32:56 > 0:32:59and just sewn round the edge of it and stuffed it with sheep's wool.

0:32:59 > 0:33:01So you've got these lovely woolly pebbles.

0:33:01 > 0:33:04I'm going to sew them really tightly together

0:33:04 > 0:33:06so they really feel like there's one solid piece of it

0:33:06 > 0:33:10and then it should be like a lovely stuffed pebble rug.

0:33:10 > 0:33:14It's one element of her ultra-modern design for the boy's bedroom.

0:33:14 > 0:33:16It is one nasty little cycle of painting

0:33:16 > 0:33:19and getting things dirty and then painting again.

0:33:19 > 0:33:21I want to get the whole room whited out completely

0:33:21 > 0:33:25and then plan where we're going to put the stripes.

0:33:25 > 0:33:28The continuous green stripe will be the main colour in the room,

0:33:28 > 0:33:31but Sarah's also dialling up the fun factor.

0:33:31 > 0:33:36This is what I would like to have in my bedroom if I was seven, a little chute.

0:33:36 > 0:33:38Because I know my boys love to race their cars down stuff

0:33:38 > 0:33:40and they particularly love it when they crash.

0:33:40 > 0:33:42So hopefully there'll be a little platform here

0:33:42 > 0:33:45and he can race it down and then the desk is going underneath

0:33:45 > 0:33:48so there'll be a little platform for the cars to arrive down on.

0:33:48 > 0:33:50It's a lot to do.

0:33:52 > 0:33:55In Jordan's hallway, he's turned his attention to the storage.

0:33:55 > 0:33:59It's basically two upstands, this side's going to be split in half exactly,

0:33:59 > 0:34:01this half's going to have a door.

0:34:04 > 0:34:05Pigeon holes there.

0:34:05 > 0:34:07Yeah, so that's just hooks.

0:34:07 > 0:34:10I just want it to look like two cupboard doors.

0:34:10 > 0:34:12The traditional front room is on schedule,

0:34:12 > 0:34:14ready for the dramatic mural to be hung.

0:34:14 > 0:34:18You said the mural is dark from that corner...

0:34:18 > 0:34:20- That's upside down.- Is it? - Yeah, it's that.

0:34:22 > 0:34:24Ground, tree, sky.

0:34:24 > 0:34:27- HE LAUGHS - OK, no probs.

0:34:28 > 0:34:32I'm really excited to see the mural going up, I mean, it's blown

0:34:32 > 0:34:36up to such a scale that you can really see all the brush strokes

0:34:36 > 0:34:39in there, it adds some great texture and it really grounds the space.

0:34:39 > 0:34:45Jordan's £325 mural comes in pre-printed panels.

0:34:45 > 0:34:48It's a trick he used in a previous round to give a period feel.

0:34:48 > 0:34:52And this Georgian home needs some character despite being built around 200 years ago.

0:34:52 > 0:34:56After the Great Fire of London in 1666,

0:34:56 > 0:34:59the whole building industry was completely reformed to make

0:34:59 > 0:35:01sure that such devastation never happened again.

0:35:01 > 0:35:06For instance in 1774 the Building Act brought in recessed wooden sash windows behind brickwork

0:35:06 > 0:35:08to stop spreading fire.

0:35:08 > 0:35:11All homes had to conform to a similar size

0:35:11 > 0:35:14on the outside in proportion to the width of the street and any

0:35:14 > 0:35:18buildings that failed to comply were threatened with demolition.

0:35:18 > 0:35:20Some thought this resulted in elegant uniformity,

0:35:20 > 0:35:24while others thought it stiflingly dull.

0:35:24 > 0:35:28Something neither of our finalists could be accused of in their designs.

0:35:28 > 0:35:31This morning I was upstairs in Sarah's house

0:35:31 > 0:35:34and looking at the guest bedroom and it was really impressive.

0:35:34 > 0:35:36No, you're right, that room is looking absolutely gorgeous,

0:35:36 > 0:35:38she's gone for a really strong, heavy colour

0:35:38 > 0:35:41and that's where we see these designers really adding to

0:35:41 > 0:35:44these houses. She's bringing in a lovely sense of colour and design

0:35:44 > 0:35:46that's really going to transform that space.

0:35:46 > 0:35:49But it's only paint yet, there's a lot of other things going on,

0:35:49 > 0:35:53there's a lot of rushing around those rooms, there's a lot of business going on.

0:35:53 > 0:35:56In Jordan's he's having to pump some character into that house,

0:35:56 > 0:35:59but there's one thing I know - by golly, he's doing it.

0:35:59 > 0:36:03My only concern is, is that right for this client and brief?

0:36:03 > 0:36:06They wanted something quite simple and pared back from what

0:36:06 > 0:36:10I read into it but they are getting the Jordan effect, it would appear.

0:36:10 > 0:36:13It's maybe a bit pushy, maybe a little bit too much

0:36:13 > 0:36:16but there's a lot of other things going on and I'm just quite

0:36:16 > 0:36:19excited about what's going to be produced over the next 24 hours.

0:36:19 > 0:36:24As Jordan's mural goes up in his period front room,

0:36:24 > 0:36:27the tree branches have arrived for his stripy guest-cum-playroom.

0:36:27 > 0:36:30I really wanted to make a feature of the day bed in here,

0:36:30 > 0:36:35so it's going to look really enchanting and sort of whimsical

0:36:35 > 0:36:37and magical for the kids when it's a playroom but also

0:36:37 > 0:36:40against the stripes, the shapes and stuff are going to be beautiful.

0:36:40 > 0:36:43It's something a bit out of the ordinary but it's going to look fab.

0:36:43 > 0:36:47They cost £65 from an online foliage dealer,

0:36:47 > 0:36:49but some jobs he's doing himself.

0:36:49 > 0:36:53I'm just making a couple of cushions for the playroom,

0:36:53 > 0:36:55in the same stripe that I've used for the curtains

0:36:55 > 0:37:02and the mattress cover, so it's going to be a stripy mirage.

0:37:02 > 0:37:04But next door, there's a problem.

0:37:04 > 0:37:07There's a bit of an issue in the lounge

0:37:07 > 0:37:08Why? Oh, God.

0:37:12 > 0:37:15The wrong panel has been hung on the left side of the wall...

0:37:15 > 0:37:17and it's been cut to fit the doorway.

0:37:18 > 0:37:20Have we got the bit that came out of that?

0:37:20 > 0:37:25I haven't got the bit for this because...

0:37:25 > 0:37:27Oh, God.

0:37:28 > 0:37:32Meanwhile, Sarah's front room is coming together.

0:37:32 > 0:37:36I'm sorry to say I think it's got to go a bit higher.

0:37:38 > 0:37:40Nice work, boys.

0:37:40 > 0:37:43And her blue guest room is getting some Shaker-style pegs

0:37:43 > 0:37:44and shelving installed.

0:37:44 > 0:37:48But seeing the bold colour scheme, Sarah makes a bold decision.

0:37:48 > 0:37:50This suddenly looks really like a kid's made it.

0:37:50 > 0:37:53And I know it took seven hours but against this,

0:37:53 > 0:37:56it looks like amateur land, doesn't it?

0:37:57 > 0:38:02Back at Jordan's, he needs a solution for his mural.

0:38:02 > 0:38:06Is that where...? If they were in the right sequence, is that where that piece is?

0:38:06 > 0:38:09If it's the right...that's one, two, that's three.

0:38:09 > 0:38:10What's the join like?

0:38:10 > 0:38:13The worst bit is the bit with the door in, can I see that?

0:38:13 > 0:38:16The mural is in four sections

0:38:16 > 0:38:19and unfortunately we've just started with piece two as opposed to

0:38:19 > 0:38:21piece one, so the doorway has been cut out.

0:38:21 > 0:38:24He has kept that piece so he's just going to have to take it down,

0:38:24 > 0:38:28move it along and there is going to be a join where the doorway was, but, you know what?

0:38:28 > 0:38:33These things happen, it's a busy site, there's things happening

0:38:33 > 0:38:36in all of the rooms all the time, so it's a mishap, it's going to be OK.

0:38:40 > 0:38:45It's the evening of day three. Tomorrow is the final day.

0:38:45 > 0:38:49It does feel like a mountain, I think it's...this is the big

0:38:49 > 0:38:52final push, I can't believe how quickly today has gone.

0:38:52 > 0:38:56Obviously I'd like to be further ahead than I am but we are where we

0:38:56 > 0:38:59are and we've just got to keep going now and get across that finish line.

0:38:59 > 0:39:02If it's just for me and I don't win, then that's fine.

0:39:02 > 0:39:06I feel like I've gone all the way to the end and that's all I ever wanted.

0:39:06 > 0:39:09But there's loads of people going, "Oh, yeah, come on, we want you to win,"

0:39:09 > 0:39:11and my family and my children...

0:39:26 > 0:39:29It's the crucial final day when one of our designers will be

0:39:29 > 0:39:32crowned winner of the Great Interior Design Challenge.

0:39:32 > 0:39:35But with just hours to go,

0:39:35 > 0:39:39both designers still have major elements of their design to finish.

0:39:39 > 0:39:43Central to Sarah's modern bedroom design is her continuous

0:39:43 > 0:39:47green stripe across the floor, walls and ceiling.

0:39:47 > 0:39:50I think one line, we find one fat line.

0:39:50 > 0:39:54The line will also continue across the bed and window pane.

0:39:54 > 0:39:59This is the film that, it's got some backing on it at the moment,

0:39:59 > 0:40:04but it basically peels off and goes over this, just a little bit of the

0:40:04 > 0:40:08window to make the green line appear to carry on, right through the room.

0:40:08 > 0:40:13Putting storage into Jordan's hallway is still a way off.

0:40:13 > 0:40:16But the fireplace is being finished in the period front room.

0:40:16 > 0:40:19And the guest-cum-playroom is getting its final stripes.

0:40:19 > 0:40:22I stayed quite late last night to get sort of all the big

0:40:22 > 0:40:25jobs like painting and stuff done, so there's lots of things to

0:40:25 > 0:40:27go up on the walls, I've still got to hang the curtains which

0:40:27 > 0:40:30are quite heavy as well, so that's going to really change the space.

0:40:30 > 0:40:33There's just a lot of fiddly jobs today which can trip you up,

0:40:33 > 0:40:35so I'm trying to keep on top of them all.

0:40:35 > 0:40:38Before I got here this morning I had some strong thoughts

0:40:38 > 0:40:41about which way I was going to go, and I've just completely

0:40:41 > 0:40:44changed my mind, I'm all over the place with this one, it's a toughie.

0:40:44 > 0:40:46I can see that both the designers have put their heart

0:40:46 > 0:40:50and soul into these rooms, I'm seeing colour, pattern,

0:40:50 > 0:40:54clever, ingenious design, beautiful detail.

0:40:54 > 0:40:56I think they're very evenly matched.

0:40:56 > 0:40:59This is the first time experience.

0:40:59 > 0:41:02Possibly not the best time to be doing something for the first time...

0:41:07 > 0:41:09..when one's slightly nervous.

0:41:16 > 0:41:20It's about to come together in here, hopefully. Does it fit, does it fit?

0:41:20 > 0:41:22It fits.

0:41:22 > 0:41:25It's a relief the shelves are here and they actually fit.

0:41:25 > 0:41:28Jordan's bedrooms are nearly complete.

0:41:28 > 0:41:29It's going to be phenomenal.

0:41:29 > 0:41:32And he's onto finishing touches in the period front room.

0:41:32 > 0:41:34Yeah, looks good.

0:41:34 > 0:41:37But work in the hallway goes down to the wire.

0:41:37 > 0:41:39It's insanely crazy.

0:41:39 > 0:41:43We're all right, almost there, three rooms down, one to go.

0:41:46 > 0:41:49- We're up against it! - Quietly confident? Or a bit nervous?

0:41:49 > 0:41:52Um, I'm feeling pretty good, actually, I think

0:41:52 > 0:41:53it's looking fantastic.

0:41:53 > 0:41:57The green stripe has dried in Sarah's modern bedroom and

0:41:57 > 0:42:02a salvage yard find takes pride of place in the hall to welcome guests.

0:42:17 > 0:42:21After four days, just under £4,500,

0:42:21 > 0:42:24and fierce determination, our designers can do no more.

0:42:25 > 0:42:30The competition means everything to me, to have come this far,

0:42:30 > 0:42:33my eyes are on the prize now, I want to win, I really do.

0:42:33 > 0:42:35I'm so happy with the results. I think, you know,

0:42:35 > 0:42:41it looks fantastic, it's so smart that I just hope they love it.

0:42:43 > 0:42:47I'm very pleased with how the design has rolled out, but for all

0:42:47 > 0:42:51the people who have helped me along the way and all the people who have looked after my children

0:42:51 > 0:42:53or...helped me...

0:42:56 > 0:42:58I'd love to win for them.

0:43:01 > 0:43:05Now it's down to judges Sophie and Daniel to decide who will be

0:43:05 > 0:43:08the winner of the Great Interior Design Challenge.

0:43:08 > 0:43:10Jordan is first to be judged.

0:43:11 > 0:43:15Four days ago this Georgian hallway was narrow

0:43:15 > 0:43:17and cluttered with no character to speak of.

0:43:22 > 0:43:26Now he's added practical storage, architectural details on the

0:43:26 > 0:43:32walls, and given it a welcoming feel with a soft green colour scheme.

0:43:32 > 0:43:34As well as his hand-drawn artwork.

0:43:36 > 0:43:39I did not recognise this hallway,

0:43:39 > 0:43:41this is the biggest transformation I've seen.

0:43:41 > 0:43:45Absolutely, and he's just put the character all the way back in

0:43:45 > 0:43:48and not just character but a massive level of practicality.

0:43:48 > 0:43:51And on top of that, this is what I think is rather clever,

0:43:51 > 0:43:53you can sit here and take your shoes off.

0:43:53 > 0:43:56Absolutely ingenious bit of planning as you said,

0:43:56 > 0:43:58and yet this is such a narrow hallway.

0:43:58 > 0:44:01He's still kept it feeling quite spacious.

0:44:01 > 0:44:05I think it really creates a very impressive welcome into this house.

0:44:05 > 0:44:08Absolutely, and those pictures, I've seen Jordan do this before,

0:44:08 > 0:44:12those are tiny images but he's done the big panels around the edge

0:44:12 > 0:44:14and it really makes them look very special.

0:44:14 > 0:44:18The living room was the ultimate blank canvass,

0:44:18 > 0:44:21stripped of all original features with few home comforts.

0:44:30 > 0:44:33Now it's been completely transformed.

0:44:33 > 0:44:35Jordan has added a fire surround to act as a focal point, with

0:44:35 > 0:44:42hand-painted tiles, panelling on the walls, a dramatic mural of a

0:44:42 > 0:44:47countryside scene, and softened the whole scheme with a cornflower blue.

0:44:48 > 0:44:53The first impression in this room is how much Jordan has achieved

0:44:53 > 0:44:54with quite a restrictive budget.

0:44:54 > 0:44:58And this room is very much on brief too, they wanted the heritage

0:44:58 > 0:45:01of the house brought back in, but they also wanted it to look quite

0:45:01 > 0:45:04calm and elegant, so from that point of view I think it's right on brief.

0:45:04 > 0:45:08Although this blue has got a little bit too much energy in it for me

0:45:08 > 0:45:13and if I'm looking at this wall here with this great faux oil painting,

0:45:13 > 0:45:17I'm actually looking at that door in the corner rather than that.

0:45:17 > 0:45:20Yeah, that colour just needed knocking back a bit didn't it?

0:45:20 > 0:45:22Yeah, it just needed to be a bit dirtier.

0:45:22 > 0:45:26Upstairs, the guest bedroom-cum-playroom was

0:45:26 > 0:45:28a simple if cluttered white room.

0:45:33 > 0:45:36Now it's had the full Jordan effect.

0:45:36 > 0:45:39The greyish blue stripes completely surround the room on the walls,

0:45:39 > 0:45:42curtains...and furniture.

0:45:43 > 0:45:47He's painted the ceiling a dark shade to create a cosy feel,

0:45:47 > 0:45:51and has added white tree branches to bring some fairy tale whimsy.

0:45:52 > 0:45:53Wow, very dramatic, isn't it?!

0:45:53 > 0:45:58It's dramatic yet there's a strange sense of peacefulness in this room.

0:45:58 > 0:46:03Because of the colours, he's gone for these nice restful aqua greens.

0:46:03 > 0:46:07And rather ingenious to have the stripes of the fabric, then go into the wall as well

0:46:07 > 0:46:11and coming up again on that curtain on the left-hand side.

0:46:11 > 0:46:14It's created like an illusion. I feel there's lots of visual tricks being played in here.

0:46:14 > 0:46:17These are really fabulous, aren't they?

0:46:17 > 0:46:20They add a magical feel because this is a playroom after all,

0:46:20 > 0:46:23so it's nice that this does feel a little bit of fun but with

0:46:23 > 0:46:27a dual purpose of also being a guest room, you want a grown-up edge too.

0:46:28 > 0:46:32Nine-year-old Rosie had grown out of her bedroom, which was pink

0:46:32 > 0:46:34and dominated by stripped pine units.

0:46:38 > 0:46:41Now it's a room for her to grow into, with a bold

0:46:41 > 0:46:46and fashionable colour scheme, practical but stylish storage,

0:46:46 > 0:46:49as well as some quirky touches.

0:46:50 > 0:46:56You know, this must be every little girl's dream bedroom, surely.

0:46:56 > 0:46:58On the brief they wanted a little girl's room that would last

0:46:58 > 0:47:03a few years and, actually, I think any trendy teenager wouldn't mind a room like this.

0:47:03 > 0:47:08Where he's managed to make it more sophisticated is by using

0:47:08 > 0:47:13this emerald green and I've noticed that even on the little teddy bear,

0:47:13 > 0:47:15and it makes this room feel very sophisticated.

0:47:15 > 0:47:19Part of the judges' decision is based on how much the homeowners like the designs,

0:47:19 > 0:47:23which they're about to see complete for the first time.

0:47:24 > 0:47:26- Wow, that's amazing, and the seat. - It's good, isn't it?

0:47:26 > 0:47:30That means we don't have to sit on the stairs any more to put our shoes on.

0:47:30 > 0:47:33It doesn't actually look like our hallway.

0:47:33 > 0:47:36- No, it doesn't. - It is. Come into the front room.

0:47:38 > 0:47:41We've got all these things that weren't in the room before!

0:47:41 > 0:47:44Oh, I just think the colours are perfect, tiles.

0:47:44 > 0:47:46I know, painted them all himself!

0:47:46 > 0:47:48They are beautiful.

0:47:48 > 0:47:52We wanted a cosy, warm room and before it was just dark and cold.

0:47:54 > 0:47:56Oh, it's beautiful. It's girly and grown-up.

0:47:56 > 0:48:00Floating books, they're really clever, aren't they?

0:48:00 > 0:48:03I think she is going to love it because it's hers, isn't it?

0:48:03 > 0:48:05It's going to be really special.

0:48:05 > 0:48:07I hope you like stripes.

0:48:07 > 0:48:12I love stripes, and we have trees in our house.

0:48:12 > 0:48:13They are literally amazing.

0:48:13 > 0:48:16I'm so glad we invited him to come and do it.

0:48:21 > 0:48:24Next to be judged are Sarah's designs.

0:48:25 > 0:48:28Four days ago this hallway was grand but plain,

0:48:28 > 0:48:32lacking the sophistication the homeowners craved.

0:48:35 > 0:48:38Now the dark grey lower wall is practical, while the lighter

0:48:38 > 0:48:44tone above creates a sense of space, the stair runner has been updated,

0:48:44 > 0:48:48and the side table, prints and statue bring some designer touches.

0:48:50 > 0:48:53This was a beautiful grand Georgian hallway to begin with.

0:48:53 > 0:48:56I like the way Sarah has just expanded on the theme.

0:48:56 > 0:48:59She's kept that simplicity and addressed the original

0:48:59 > 0:49:04architecture by just having these very broad stripes deepening

0:49:04 > 0:49:08as it goes down to work better with this rather bright floor.

0:49:08 > 0:49:11Here what she's done is she's created a focal point

0:49:11 > 0:49:13in the hallway with the demilune

0:49:13 > 0:49:16and the painting there and then dear Mary here on the right.

0:49:16 > 0:49:22There's just some quirky bits of interest on something that's usually an ordinary thoroughfare.

0:49:22 > 0:49:28The front room was an unused dining room which the owners wanted to be part work space, part sitting room.

0:49:40 > 0:49:43Sarah has transformed it with a gentlemen's club theme.

0:49:45 > 0:49:48She's added a snooker table with detachable top,

0:49:48 > 0:49:52and traditional furniture, while giving the room edge with

0:49:52 > 0:49:56floating glass shelves and bespoke copper light.

0:49:56 > 0:49:58This is fun.

0:49:58 > 0:50:00Having had the calm of the hallway

0:50:00 > 0:50:03and coming in to the excitement of this, makes it quite special.

0:50:03 > 0:50:07Well, this room had no purpose, and what Sarah has managed to do

0:50:07 > 0:50:11is give this room a look, a games room, a gentlemen's club room.

0:50:11 > 0:50:16It's a party room in which they can come and work every now and again.

0:50:16 > 0:50:19But I do feel that maybe a little bit themed, you know,

0:50:19 > 0:50:24like a gastro pub, over-staged rather than being real.

0:50:24 > 0:50:26Although, you can look at some of the details.

0:50:26 > 0:50:29For example, over there, have you seen?

0:50:29 > 0:50:34Brass lion heads with rings and then using them for the cues, love it!

0:50:34 > 0:50:37For design details, it totally is top marks, isn't it?

0:50:37 > 0:50:39I'm just seeing all her quirky little ideas like this

0:50:39 > 0:50:42lighting that she came up with on a shoestring.

0:50:42 > 0:50:44Absolutely brilliant.

0:50:44 > 0:50:46Upstairs, the white box of a guest room needed

0:50:46 > 0:50:48so much more personality.

0:50:55 > 0:50:59Now its bold blue colour scheme and vintage feel is classic Sarah.

0:51:00 > 0:51:04She's kept the floor and ceiling white, added Shaker-style pegs

0:51:04 > 0:51:07and shelving, and bought in a colourful bedspread.

0:51:08 > 0:51:10This is the guest bedroom

0:51:10 > 0:51:13and I think if you were coming to stay for a weekend you'd feel

0:51:13 > 0:51:15really made at home in a room like this, wouldn't you?

0:51:15 > 0:51:18Absolutely, it's both very masculine and feminine,

0:51:18 > 0:51:21and the way she's done that is by having a light floor,

0:51:21 > 0:51:24pale ceiling that's been brought down to the shelf level, and then

0:51:24 > 0:51:28just a stripe of that rich blue in the room, and she's pulled it off.

0:51:28 > 0:51:31And what I'm loving is this shelf and peg rail, I think this is

0:51:31 > 0:51:34a great idea for spare rooms, you don't want to clog up a room

0:51:34 > 0:51:39with unnecessary wardrobes and chest of drawers. That is a really clever idea.

0:51:39 > 0:51:42Nine-year-old Charlie's bedroom was plain and functional,

0:51:42 > 0:51:43but lacked personality.

0:51:49 > 0:51:53Sarah's gone all-out with a modern, original scheme,

0:51:53 > 0:51:58with white walls and a green stripe across the entire room.

0:51:58 > 0:52:01She's built a playful car slide into the wall,

0:52:01 > 0:52:03made a cabin bed from basic flat pack furniture,

0:52:03 > 0:52:07and added more colour with a handmade bobble rug.

0:52:08 > 0:52:11Oh, it's so funky, isn't it?

0:52:11 > 0:52:15What I'm liking about that is that Sarah is proving to us

0:52:15 > 0:52:16that she doesn't do just vintage,

0:52:16 > 0:52:21what she's touched on here is late '60s psychedelia design,

0:52:21 > 0:52:24classic is the green stripe that goes through the room.

0:52:24 > 0:52:27What I particularly love about it is the way the green goes over

0:52:27 > 0:52:32the old Georgian mouldings in the sash window with the window film and just makes the space look so modern.

0:52:32 > 0:52:35And she's proven that she can do a boy's bedroom.

0:52:35 > 0:52:38I know that because I'd love one of these. Have you seen it?

0:52:43 > 0:52:45Your new hall...

0:52:46 > 0:52:49There's Mary, oh, my goodness!

0:52:51 > 0:52:53Oh, my God.

0:52:55 > 0:52:58Oh, what a clever, clever woman.

0:52:58 > 0:53:03She's brought it all together, it is beautiful,

0:53:03 > 0:53:05the old industrial really works with the traditional.

0:53:05 > 0:53:07It's just us, isn't it?

0:53:07 > 0:53:09Ta-da!

0:53:10 > 0:53:12Oh, my goodness, this is incredible!

0:53:12 > 0:53:14Little cave to crawl into there.

0:53:14 > 0:53:16Isn't that just wonderful?

0:53:16 > 0:53:18- Fantastic.- I love it.

0:53:18 > 0:53:22Oh, my goodness!

0:53:22 > 0:53:26- It is fantastic!- I'm lost for words, actually.

0:53:26 > 0:53:29It's wonderful!

0:53:29 > 0:53:33It's now a long wait for our designers, while the judges

0:53:33 > 0:53:38decide who deserves to be named champion of the competition.

0:53:38 > 0:53:40So, you two, it's the big one.

0:53:40 > 0:53:42Let's start with Sarah.

0:53:42 > 0:53:46Now you really wanted her to show her versatility, has she done that?

0:53:46 > 0:53:50Absolutely, with two bedrooms beside each other, cheek by jowl

0:53:50 > 0:53:53but completely different.

0:53:53 > 0:53:54One really poppy and modern,

0:53:54 > 0:53:58and the other with a very sort of solid, homely feel to it.

0:53:58 > 0:54:01She's come through as somebody who designs vintage homewares.

0:54:01 > 0:54:04She does that look very, very well but we're looking for her to

0:54:04 > 0:54:06push the boundaries and I think she's shown that throughout

0:54:06 > 0:54:09this competition, but particularly this week.

0:54:09 > 0:54:11You could be quite afraid dealing with a house like that,

0:54:11 > 0:54:14it's the perfect Georgian house so you'd honour it

0:54:14 > 0:54:17and give it respect, but actually you just want to be a little

0:54:17 > 0:54:20bit rock and roll with it too, and she did.

0:54:20 > 0:54:21How about Jordan?

0:54:21 > 0:54:24His rooms definitely make you go "Wow" when you walk in. What we were

0:54:24 > 0:54:27looking for with him was for him to show that he can add some practical

0:54:27 > 0:54:30considerations, really thinking about how people live in and use

0:54:30 > 0:54:33the space, and he's really proved that he's taken that on board.

0:54:33 > 0:54:37He's a showman, he's got great humour but he also

0:54:37 > 0:54:40thinks about applying them to the needs of the people who live there.

0:54:40 > 0:54:44This lovely family wanted to actually feel that they do live

0:54:44 > 0:54:49in a Georgian house and he put all that character back, and more.

0:54:49 > 0:54:50He put in style too.

0:54:50 > 0:54:54Jordan's rooms are always innovative and daring and something new,

0:54:54 > 0:54:57and there's always something in his schemes that I've never seen before.

0:54:57 > 0:54:58Which is excellent.

0:54:58 > 0:55:01How do you think the pair have evolved over the series?

0:55:01 > 0:55:05Oh, it's been absolutely an amazing progression from their first

0:55:05 > 0:55:08room to now practically doing a whole house.

0:55:08 > 0:55:12Absolutely. Blimey, I really, really don't envy you two.

0:55:12 > 0:55:15You've got quite a task.

0:55:17 > 0:55:2024 amateur designers competed in eight heats.

0:55:22 > 0:55:29And after quarterfinals and a semi, we were left with two of the best.

0:55:31 > 0:55:32Now just one can win.

0:55:34 > 0:55:37Well, you two, a big ask for the final.

0:55:37 > 0:55:41Four rooms, you both must be exhausted.

0:55:41 > 0:55:46We have so enjoyed watching your progress,

0:55:46 > 0:55:49and if you carry on at this rate, you're without a doubt going

0:55:49 > 0:55:51to have really successful careers in design.

0:55:51 > 0:55:55I hope you come and join us lot as interior designers,

0:55:55 > 0:55:58you both have a position in the professional world.

0:55:58 > 0:56:02But these two have deliberated very long and hard,

0:56:02 > 0:56:05and they've come to their decision.

0:56:05 > 0:56:07And the winner...

0:56:08 > 0:56:11..of the Great Interior Design Challenge is...

0:56:14 > 0:56:15..Sarah.

0:56:18 > 0:56:21- Well done, well done. - APPLAUSE

0:56:21 > 0:56:23Well deserved.

0:56:27 > 0:56:28Thank you!

0:56:28 > 0:56:29Aww!

0:56:29 > 0:56:31- Thank you!- Thank you.

0:56:33 > 0:56:40I'm really proud of myself that I've never done this before and I can do it and I really enjoy it.

0:56:40 > 0:56:43Every winner has to have a trophy and this is handmade...

0:56:43 > 0:56:45It's handmade, I love it!

0:56:45 > 0:56:48It's right up my street, thank you, that is amazing,

0:56:48 > 0:56:50I'm totally overwhelmed.

0:56:50 > 0:56:53I hope that this is just the beginning of something amazing.

0:56:53 > 0:56:56Obviously I was disappointed, I've said all along that

0:56:56 > 0:57:00I was in it to win it, but I've come as far as you can go in the

0:57:00 > 0:57:04competition and at the end of the day there's two fantastic houses

0:57:04 > 0:57:08there and the families are going to enjoy living in them, so I'm

0:57:08 > 0:57:13sure I'm going to move on within this industry and make a name for myself.

0:57:13 > 0:57:16Thank you so much, it really means a lot. Thank you.

0:57:21 > 0:57:26That was a very, very difficult, almost emotional decision to be made.

0:57:26 > 0:57:32Because I love them both and it was a hair's breadth, really.

0:57:32 > 0:57:35- I hope you like it.- What have you done to our lovely home?

0:57:35 > 0:57:36Don't say that, I hope you like it!

0:57:36 > 0:57:40We've found two of the most talented designers in the country, but

0:57:40 > 0:57:43Sarah, she did have that something special at the end of the day.

0:57:43 > 0:57:46I have just so enjoyed learning how to do this

0:57:46 > 0:57:51and I think it'll be a fantastic opportunity that's waiting for me.

0:58:00 > 0:58:03The British home is an astonishing thing, comes in all shapes

0:58:03 > 0:58:06and sizes and all styles from Georgian to Brutalist,

0:58:06 > 0:58:09from thatched cottage to tower block.

0:58:09 > 0:58:11It's as varied as the people who live inside, but one thing's been

0:58:11 > 0:58:15consistent throughout this series - the sheer creativity our designers

0:58:15 > 0:58:19have shown, marrying this history with the sharpest of modern designs.

0:58:19 > 0:58:22And that's the most astonishing thing of all about the British

0:58:22 > 0:58:26home, the job is never done, it's continually being reinvented.
