0:00:03 > 0:00:07In Britain we have an amazing array of places we call home,

0:00:07 > 0:00:09from thatched cottages and conversions

0:00:09 > 0:00:11to terraced housing and tower blocks.

0:00:11 > 0:00:14But when it comes to interior design,

0:00:14 > 0:00:17we don't always make the best of the rooms we live in.

0:00:17 > 0:00:19So, we asked 24 amateur interior designers

0:00:19 > 0:00:22to show us how it should be done.

0:00:22 > 0:00:24Let's try it.

0:00:24 > 0:00:28We've got 15 minutes and I'm still painting.

0:00:28 > 0:00:30I hope they'll like it, I think they will like it.

0:00:30 > 0:00:33We travelled across the country and through the ages

0:00:33 > 0:00:39to Victorian avenues, Art Deco cul-de-sacs, and Regency squares.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43Each time the would-be designers took on similar rooms

0:00:43 > 0:00:45in neighbouring homes.

0:00:45 > 0:00:48And after eight heats, we've picked the best to go through

0:00:48 > 0:00:50to the quarterfinals.

0:00:50 > 0:00:53Judging them are designer and President Elect

0:00:53 > 0:00:57of the British Institute of Interior Design, Daniel Hopwood...

0:00:57 > 0:00:59Our quarter finalists need to show

0:00:59 > 0:01:03they've got an extensive repertoire and not just have one look.

0:01:03 > 0:01:06..and interior stylist and magazine journalist Sophie Robinson.

0:01:06 > 0:01:09The designers have already had one shot at this

0:01:09 > 0:01:12so we'll be looking at a marked improvement.

0:01:12 > 0:01:14Across our two quarterfinal programmes,

0:01:14 > 0:01:17only four can go through to the next stage of the competition.

0:01:17 > 0:01:19# Dun-dun-dun! #

0:01:26 > 0:01:29This time our amateur designers are giving a new look

0:01:29 > 0:01:33to a very old room in these thatched cottages in rural Dorset.

0:01:33 > 0:01:37Four previous winners have already shown they have talent for design.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40- Sarah, congratulations! - THEY CLAP

0:01:40 > 0:01:42- Jordan. - THEY CLAP

0:01:42 > 0:01:44- Johnny. - Well done, darling.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46Charmaine.

0:01:46 > 0:01:48With two semifinal places at stake

0:01:48 > 0:01:51they must show they've learned lessons working with their

0:01:51 > 0:01:55first ever client, as they take on country cottage sitting rooms.

0:01:55 > 0:01:57I'm panicking now.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59Great little touch, even if I say so myself.

0:01:59 > 0:02:01I think we know what we need to do.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04Could be disastrous. I don't know what else to say.

0:02:04 > 0:02:07I'm just concerned she might have bitten off more than she can chew.

0:02:07 > 0:02:10If they don't like it, this is not a winning design.

0:02:10 > 0:02:15Two of you rose beyond and the two designers going through are...

0:02:22 > 0:02:26These thatched cottages are an idyllic vision of old England.

0:02:26 > 0:02:31This is Milton Abbas in Dorset - 36 perfect looking little cottages

0:02:31 > 0:02:33that look like they could have been built in Tudor times.

0:02:33 > 0:02:38In fact, they're Georgian, built here by the local landowner in 1779.

0:02:40 > 0:02:45Three years earlier in 1776, Lord Milton built this grand house

0:02:45 > 0:02:48but he decided that the old village spoilt his view

0:02:48 > 0:02:50and ordered that it be torn down.

0:02:50 > 0:02:53The locals put up a good fight, even refusing to leave their homes.

0:02:53 > 0:02:57But they were no match for the underhand tactics of Lord Milton.

0:02:57 > 0:03:00He even flushed out one tenacious tenant with effluent pond water.

0:03:06 > 0:03:09The estate workers had to live somewhere though,

0:03:09 > 0:03:12so he built an entire new village in a valley out of sight.

0:03:12 > 0:03:15His quest for the perfect estate led him to employ

0:03:15 > 0:03:17the leading experts of the day -

0:03:17 > 0:03:20William Chambers, architect of London's Somerset House,

0:03:20 > 0:03:23and Lancelot Capability Brown, landscaper of Kew Gardens -

0:03:23 > 0:03:25to create this model village.

0:03:32 > 0:03:35Now four thatched cottages in this village are getting

0:03:35 > 0:03:38a new look living room from our quarterfinalists.

0:03:41 > 0:03:45Johnny won his heat with a modernist inspired design in a 1930s semi.

0:03:47 > 0:03:49Now we're into the quarterfinal,

0:03:49 > 0:03:51the competition's going to be a bit stronger.

0:03:51 > 0:03:54I'm not nervous, I just want to get in there and get cracking.

0:03:54 > 0:03:58Sarah pulled off a traditional design with a Scandinavian feel

0:03:58 > 0:04:00for an Edwardian bedroom.

0:04:01 > 0:04:04I feel I'm quite different to the other competitors.

0:04:04 > 0:04:08I'm a mum who has a business who's enjoying this.

0:04:08 > 0:04:11I'm just going to give it my best shot and see how I get on.

0:04:13 > 0:04:16Charmaine won her place with a '50s themed

0:04:16 > 0:04:18sun room in an Art Deco house.

0:04:20 > 0:04:24So thrilled, I thought I might not be here but I'm so excited.

0:04:24 > 0:04:28I'm at the stage now where I feel like that's it, I'm in it to win it.

0:04:28 > 0:04:32And Jordan brought a touch of Hollywood glamour

0:04:32 > 0:04:34to a Regency town house.

0:04:34 > 0:04:36I can't wait to get started on the competition

0:04:36 > 0:04:39and, yeah, just get cracking on the room really.

0:04:39 > 0:04:42It's such a beautiful setting and the competition is on.

0:04:44 > 0:04:46Our first front room

0:04:46 > 0:04:50belongs to local history enthusiasts John and Peggy.

0:04:50 > 0:04:53The house was built in 1773-ish.

0:04:53 > 0:04:58It had some substantial changes to it in the early 19th century

0:04:58 > 0:05:03which turned into a tailor's shop, hence the large bay window.

0:05:03 > 0:05:06Keeping the traditional style is of particular importance to them

0:05:06 > 0:05:09as, every two years,

0:05:09 > 0:05:12local residents of Milton Abbas throw a street festival

0:05:12 > 0:05:15and Peggy and John's living room is a main attraction.

0:05:15 > 0:05:17Peggy sits down here and she's got a spinning wheel

0:05:17 > 0:05:19and she also does a bit of sewing.

0:05:19 > 0:05:22One of the things about having the place decorated

0:05:22 > 0:05:27is we want to keep it looking traditional.

0:05:28 > 0:05:30Before the designers can get started,

0:05:30 > 0:05:34judges Sophie and Daniel want to assess the potential of each room.

0:05:37 > 0:05:41- This is so charming. - It's magic, isn't it?

0:05:41 > 0:05:44I just love the fact that everywhere I look, there's antiques.

0:05:44 > 0:05:47I'm noticing there's a few pieces of original furniture

0:05:47 > 0:05:49in this room as well.

0:05:49 > 0:05:52At least the furniture that you would have seen in a room like this.

0:05:52 > 0:05:54Here we have a settle,

0:05:54 > 0:05:58which is sort of an 18th century sofa, and also we have...

0:05:58 > 0:06:01Probably a bit later, but there's a lovely rocking chair here as well.

0:06:01 > 0:06:04In a historical context there is a design challenge,

0:06:04 > 0:06:07and that is addressing the modern needs

0:06:07 > 0:06:09in a beautiful space like this.

0:06:09 > 0:06:12They love the period style. They love authentic materials.

0:06:12 > 0:06:16They don't want to see anything that's fake or reproduction

0:06:16 > 0:06:19so our designers are going to really, really need

0:06:19 > 0:06:21to have done their homework.

0:06:22 > 0:06:26And the designer charged with bringing some rustic charm

0:06:26 > 0:06:30to this cottage is 44-year-old painter and decorator Johnny.

0:06:32 > 0:06:34He may have shown his design skills

0:06:34 > 0:06:36with an ingenious cabinet unit in his heat,

0:06:36 > 0:06:40but he still needs to prove he can pull together a whole scheme.

0:06:41 > 0:06:45Each quarterfinalist has been given a week to come up with their designs

0:06:45 > 0:06:48but this is their first meeting with the homeowners.

0:06:49 > 0:06:51I've brought in a mood board

0:06:51 > 0:06:54just to show you what I'd like to try and achieve for you.

0:06:56 > 0:06:59You wanted some shelving so I've come up with this style here

0:06:59 > 0:07:02which is more of a free standing shelf

0:07:02 > 0:07:06- which will sit in the alcove at the side of the fire there.- Yeah.

0:07:06 > 0:07:09This is the fabric I chose for your curtains.

0:07:09 > 0:07:11It's silk screen print on there.

0:07:11 > 0:07:13Is it based upon design that would have been...

0:07:13 > 0:07:16Yes, it is, it's like a William Morris print,

0:07:16 > 0:07:19so we're going back to that.

0:07:19 > 0:07:23I noticed you wanted to keep the focal point around the fireplace.

0:07:23 > 0:07:28I want to propose more of a natural stone on there, on top of that.

0:07:28 > 0:07:32I have a lovely quartz... white quartz stone.

0:07:32 > 0:07:35- I know Peggy doesn't like that. - THEY LAUGH

0:07:35 > 0:07:38I can see that!

0:07:38 > 0:07:42- To me it looks a bit "in your face". - Is it going to destroy your scheme?

0:07:42 > 0:07:46- No, it will not.- Are you sure? - No, not at all, it won't.- Good.

0:07:46 > 0:07:50The stone quartz might have gone but Johnny's design has plenty of other

0:07:50 > 0:07:53natural materials to deliver the rustic style.

0:07:53 > 0:07:56When we show this room every two years to the public,

0:07:56 > 0:07:58the first thing we have to do with this radiator

0:07:58 > 0:08:01- is cover it over with old sacks. - Leave it with me then.

0:08:01 > 0:08:05I'll see what we can do to conceal that lovely...

0:08:06 > 0:08:10- ..white radiator. - THEY LAUGH

0:08:12 > 0:08:15I was astonished at how sensitive he'd been to the brief.

0:08:15 > 0:08:17And we know Johnny.

0:08:17 > 0:08:21He likes modern, he likes retro, he likes quite masculine design.

0:08:21 > 0:08:25I thought he was so sensitive to their requests

0:08:25 > 0:08:28and even when he pulled out the white granite tile cladding,

0:08:28 > 0:08:30he moved on away from it very quickly.

0:08:30 > 0:08:33He knew from their reaction that it wasn't the right thing to push.

0:08:33 > 0:08:36There was one moment of insecurity that I picked up on

0:08:36 > 0:08:38and that's when John suggested to Johnny

0:08:38 > 0:08:41about having a radiator cover of some form.

0:08:41 > 0:08:44I just would hate to see any MDF fretwork monstrosity over there,

0:08:44 > 0:08:46that'd be really wrong.

0:08:46 > 0:08:49So he's going to have to think of something more original than that.

0:08:51 > 0:08:55Like all the designers Johnny now has £1,000 pounds, a builder

0:08:55 > 0:08:58and 48 hours spread over three days to bring a natural touch

0:08:58 > 0:09:00to this historical room.

0:09:00 > 0:09:03I would really love to incorporate this natural wood.

0:09:03 > 0:09:05We've got enough of this timber

0:09:05 > 0:09:07and I think he's got a wood shed that he said we could raid as well.

0:09:07 > 0:09:10- I can't wait to get up there. - I know. See what he's got.

0:09:10 > 0:09:13First he's going in search of the right piece of wood.

0:09:13 > 0:09:18This is a lovely little Aladdin's cave up here, isn't it?

0:09:21 > 0:09:24The next front room belongs to Lars and Monique

0:09:24 > 0:09:26and their two-year-old son Viggo.

0:09:29 > 0:09:31With Viggo's arrival,

0:09:31 > 0:09:34we've changed the front room into an area

0:09:34 > 0:09:36where you've got a lot of floor space

0:09:36 > 0:09:39that he could play on when he was a little baby.

0:09:39 > 0:09:42Now that he's bigger we can actually go back and make it into a...

0:09:42 > 0:09:46- An adult room, cosy. - ..more of a cottagey, cosy room.

0:09:46 > 0:09:52Oh, lovely. What an elegant room. Nicely restored.

0:09:52 > 0:09:55The first thing that hits you, isn't it? The quality of this restoration.

0:09:55 > 0:09:57Yes. What's ingenious is actually,

0:09:57 > 0:10:02they've left exposed, at the bottom, the original flint footings

0:10:02 > 0:10:05and plastered over what's called the cob,

0:10:05 > 0:10:07which is at the top which is the rubbish

0:10:07 > 0:10:10which they used to make the walls up.

0:10:10 > 0:10:13Old beams, which would have actually come from the original village,

0:10:13 > 0:10:15cos the village was moved,

0:10:15 > 0:10:18and they would have taken anything that they could,

0:10:18 > 0:10:21cos it was of value, and re-used it in these new buildings.

0:10:21 > 0:10:23So these beams are actually older than the house.

0:10:23 > 0:10:26Furnishing-wise it's just looking a little drab.

0:10:26 > 0:10:29Monique and Lars, they like that Scandinavian look

0:10:29 > 0:10:31which is quite cool in terms of colours,

0:10:31 > 0:10:34but it's a lot about bringing in texture

0:10:34 > 0:10:38and rustic finishes, like wood and stone.

0:10:38 > 0:10:41But our designer's going to have to make it feel warm and homely too.

0:10:41 > 0:10:44Making an impact in a room that already looks well designed

0:10:44 > 0:10:48could prove challenging for our next quarterfinalist.

0:10:48 > 0:10:51Asked to balance a country look with a modern influence

0:10:51 > 0:10:54is vintage homewares designer, Sarah.

0:10:54 > 0:10:57During the heat she impressed with her craft skills.

0:10:57 > 0:11:00This time the judges want to see versatility

0:11:00 > 0:11:02with some contemporary touches.

0:11:04 > 0:11:08I've put together a little board for you with some ideas.

0:11:08 > 0:11:11So I have chosen, as the natural theme...

0:11:11 > 0:11:14I'm looking at very old, earthy tones,

0:11:14 > 0:11:17beautiful warm colours with perhaps a little bit of textured linen

0:11:17 > 0:11:20and that sort of thing to add some highlights to it.

0:11:20 > 0:11:24We have the sofa and a collection of linens and tweed materials

0:11:24 > 0:11:28to make almost like a patchwork with the cushions.

0:11:28 > 0:11:32So the front of the cushions are all beautiful, natural tweedy colours

0:11:32 > 0:11:35and then the backs of them we've done with linen fabric.

0:11:35 > 0:11:39It will be quite bold but it will give you more than one look.

0:11:39 > 0:11:41An important thing for me is to try and get some

0:11:41 > 0:11:45light in here at, say, at night time when we have closed the curtains.

0:11:45 > 0:11:48I have three of these bulbs to hang here but I also have two more

0:11:48 > 0:11:52that I've had wired literally as a plug and a flex and a wire.

0:11:52 > 0:11:55And I have got some silver birch

0:11:55 > 0:11:58that I've brought with me that I'd like to make a standard lamp out of.

0:11:58 > 0:12:02Sarah's attempting to balance modern elements with a woodland theme

0:12:02 > 0:12:05and can't resist her signature tool.

0:12:05 > 0:12:08I have used them before and I really love them

0:12:08 > 0:12:12but I have found some paint rollers that you can apply to the wall.

0:12:12 > 0:12:15They're just brilliant because they work on uneven surfaces.

0:12:15 > 0:12:18- Will it be the woodland animals? - Yes, my plan is to just do it here.

0:12:18 > 0:12:20I think the room would be quite cluttered

0:12:20 > 0:12:24if it was all the way round. So I think there, behind the sofa.

0:12:24 > 0:12:28I'm quite excited about that. The...what did you call it?

0:12:28 > 0:12:30It's a paint roller.

0:12:30 > 0:12:33I used it in the last house I did and I nearly didn't bring it along

0:12:33 > 0:12:35cos I don't want to be this kind of one-trick pony

0:12:35 > 0:12:38but I think it's so good, given what you've asked for,

0:12:38 > 0:12:40with the natural element of your brief.

0:12:40 > 0:12:42I think it's too good to leave behind.

0:12:42 > 0:12:45She's working to brief but she's putting her style on it as well.

0:12:45 > 0:12:47You'll recognise that as being a Sarah design.

0:12:47 > 0:12:50But I've got to admit, my eyebrows were certainly raised

0:12:50 > 0:12:54when she mentioned that she was bringing out the roller stencil.

0:12:54 > 0:12:57She does need to prove that she can be versatile

0:12:57 > 0:12:59to different looks and styles.

0:13:04 > 0:13:08- It'll remind you straightaway. - Oh, putty. Linseed oil, yeah.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14Our third cottage, a few doors along,

0:13:14 > 0:13:18was previously used by Corrine and her family as a holiday home.

0:13:18 > 0:13:21We were using the house just as a holiday home

0:13:21 > 0:13:23so it didn't really, really matter what it looked like.

0:13:23 > 0:13:28But after relocating permanently to the cottage 18 months ago,

0:13:28 > 0:13:30Corrine and her four children have found themselves

0:13:30 > 0:13:32competing for space in the living room.

0:13:32 > 0:13:34The children play there a lot.

0:13:34 > 0:13:38They've got their games out so if we could have some storage,

0:13:38 > 0:13:40we can put the toys away.

0:13:40 > 0:13:43I'd like the room to work for the whole family.

0:13:44 > 0:13:47The beauty of the room is the architectural details

0:13:47 > 0:13:50are still here, it hasn't been spoilt.

0:13:50 > 0:13:53Including a bread oven.

0:13:53 > 0:13:58You'd set a fire on inside, get the whole brickwork around it

0:13:58 > 0:14:02very, very hot, then you take all the cinders out

0:14:02 > 0:14:06and put the dough in and the radiating heat will cook the dough.

0:14:06 > 0:14:09And that was the first example of a modern day oven.

0:14:09 > 0:14:12It's a really interesting brief, this one, and it's very common.

0:14:12 > 0:14:16People want their rooms to feel light and airy but also warm and cosy.

0:14:16 > 0:14:19So that storage clearly needs to go, doesn't it?

0:14:19 > 0:14:21It's very dated, flat-packed furniture.

0:14:21 > 0:14:23I'd like to see something much more considered in there

0:14:23 > 0:14:26with the cosiness and the soft furnishings.

0:14:26 > 0:14:28We want to see lots of texture,

0:14:28 > 0:14:30wools and linens sitting next to each other.

0:14:30 > 0:14:33I think this is an opportunity to mix lots of patterns,

0:14:33 > 0:14:35see checks and plaids and the tartans all mixed together

0:14:35 > 0:14:37and build up the look that way,

0:14:37 > 0:14:41so the room feels really inviting and soft and warm and cosy.

0:14:43 > 0:14:46Aiming to transform this plain space into a functioning family

0:14:46 > 0:14:50living room is 29-year-old design student Charmaine.

0:14:51 > 0:14:53After her well-managed,

0:14:53 > 0:14:57practical '50s office design in her first heat,

0:14:57 > 0:15:00the judges now want to see a more adventurous scheme from her.

0:15:00 > 0:15:02So, I just put together a quick concept board

0:15:02 > 0:15:05just to show you first.

0:15:05 > 0:15:09I'm going to be building you some bespoke cabinets on this wall

0:15:09 > 0:15:12just here, so we've got some cupboards for storage

0:15:12 > 0:15:15and some lovely shelving.

0:15:15 > 0:15:18I would actually have preferred the shelf...

0:15:18 > 0:15:23- to be on this wall and around the doors.- Mm-hmm.

0:15:23 > 0:15:27As a second option I have done just that.

0:15:27 > 0:15:32So, similar thing - cupboards at the bottom, shelving at the top

0:15:32 > 0:15:34and on this wall here, as opposed to here.

0:15:34 > 0:15:36Ultimately, I want to make you happy

0:15:36 > 0:15:41so if you would prefer it to be on this wall then I'm happy to do that.

0:15:41 > 0:15:43As well as the shelving I'm planning to extend the window seat.

0:15:43 > 0:15:47- Oh, lovely.- So it's a little bit bigger, more comfortable to sit on.

0:15:47 > 0:15:50I'll put a lovely tartan seat pad, again with some cushions,

0:15:50 > 0:15:53so you can sit in the window, read a book, drink a coffee.

0:15:53 > 0:15:55- I think it's a really good idea, actually.- Excellent.

0:15:55 > 0:15:58Along with her practical cupboards and seating,

0:15:58 > 0:16:00she's chosen an autumnal colour scheme.

0:16:00 > 0:16:02I'm going to be bringing the colour into the room

0:16:02 > 0:16:05with the soft furnishings so we're going to have colour,

0:16:05 > 0:16:08- texture in the linens.- Very much like what...- What you've asked.

0:16:08 > 0:16:13- Yes. What I've asked.- Brilliant! I'm very pleased. It will be great.

0:16:13 > 0:16:16I think she really helped Corrine visualise the room

0:16:16 > 0:16:18and Corrine was clearly very unconfident

0:16:18 > 0:16:20about design and how it's all going to work.

0:16:20 > 0:16:23She did keep saying, "It's going to be fabulous!"

0:16:23 > 0:16:27"You will love it!" But I wanted her to say why.

0:16:27 > 0:16:31Because I was feeling that it was perhaps a little safe.

0:16:34 > 0:16:36HE SHUDDERS

0:16:36 > 0:16:40Steve, you are not scared of spiders? SHE LAUGHS

0:16:40 > 0:16:43- Are you serious? - Seriously.- Oh, no.

0:16:46 > 0:16:48Our final front room belongs to Diana.

0:16:48 > 0:16:51She's owned her home for 28 years

0:16:51 > 0:16:53and lives with son Steve and dog Lulu.

0:16:55 > 0:16:59I want it re-designed because I think a lot of the furniture's

0:16:59 > 0:17:02too big and I'd like a change of colour.

0:17:02 > 0:17:05And so long as it's warm and comfortable and bright,

0:17:05 > 0:17:08that's what I would like.

0:17:08 > 0:17:11Diana is keen to hold on to the authentic feel of the cottage.

0:17:11 > 0:17:15As much as I like modern design, I wouldn't like it in this house.

0:17:15 > 0:17:18If it was a suitable house, a modern design could be lovely

0:17:18 > 0:17:21but it would look ridiculous here, wouldn't it?

0:17:24 > 0:17:28- Crikey, what a lot of stuff!- Yeah. It's a very cosy room, isn't it?

0:17:28 > 0:17:31It's about people who are proud of living in a cottage

0:17:31 > 0:17:33and they want to celebrate that.

0:17:33 > 0:17:35They reflect on the past a lot.

0:17:35 > 0:17:39For example, we've got lots of horse brasses hanging over on the beam,

0:17:39 > 0:17:42old cooking utensils hung up around the fireplace,

0:17:42 > 0:17:44sort of indicating what this was used for,

0:17:44 > 0:17:47but they're never going to be used.

0:17:47 > 0:17:49What I would like to see with the designer

0:17:49 > 0:17:51is how they can take all this

0:17:51 > 0:17:54and turn it into something new and fresh.

0:17:54 > 0:17:57The other big challenge I see for a designer in this room

0:17:57 > 0:18:00is making sense of the layout.

0:18:00 > 0:18:03There's clearly too many chairs in here, you can hardly move.

0:18:03 > 0:18:04We've got lots of different finishes.

0:18:04 > 0:18:07There's different woods in here, different fabrics -

0:18:07 > 0:18:10we've got mustard Dralon, leather and then quite a wacky bedspread.

0:18:10 > 0:18:14All that is doing is just cluttering up the eye

0:18:14 > 0:18:17and I think rule of thumb is maximum of two finishes

0:18:17 > 0:18:20for soft furnishings, especially in a room of this size.

0:18:20 > 0:18:23It would just help just visually calm it all down.

0:18:23 > 0:18:27Taking on Diana's brief for a colourful cosy cottage

0:18:27 > 0:18:30is 30-year-old ex-actor Jordan from London.

0:18:32 > 0:18:34In his heat he created an elegant design

0:18:34 > 0:18:37with a restrained grey colour scheme.

0:18:37 > 0:18:39This time the brief is to brighten up the room,

0:18:39 > 0:18:42so Jordan must prove he can work with bold colours.

0:18:42 > 0:18:45Don't be frightened by the colour initially.

0:18:46 > 0:18:48We've got this fabric here.

0:18:48 > 0:18:51- You said you didn't like chintzy things.- Not really, no.

0:18:51 > 0:18:53I avoided that and went for a bigger floral

0:18:53 > 0:18:56which I think is going to be really bright and cheerful.

0:18:56 > 0:18:59Yes. So what are these colours here?

0:18:59 > 0:19:02These are some of the colours that I've picked out from the fabric

0:19:02 > 0:19:04that are going to feature in areas within the room,

0:19:04 > 0:19:06but nothing too scary.

0:19:06 > 0:19:10It's going to be bright and cheerful and hopefully you'll love it.

0:19:10 > 0:19:12I'll move this one and you can see

0:19:12 > 0:19:14the other one with a couple of my sketches.

0:19:14 > 0:19:18- You've got a rocking chair that's going to be coming in.- OK.

0:19:18 > 0:19:21It's going to be a nice place to sit and read by the fire hopefully.

0:19:21 > 0:19:24I just don't want the fabric to overwhelm the room, that's all.

0:19:24 > 0:19:28The only pattern that's going to be coming in is on the curtains.

0:19:28 > 0:19:30There's quite a lot of curtains, though, isn't there?

0:19:30 > 0:19:34There is. But the room can... I think it's going to work well.

0:19:34 > 0:19:36I think it can take...

0:19:36 > 0:19:39It's the colour and the cheerfulness that I wanted to bring in.

0:19:39 > 0:19:41Hopefully it's going to be a room that you're going to come into

0:19:41 > 0:19:44and smile and enjoy spending time in. Not too scary?

0:19:44 > 0:19:46Well, no, not too scary, no.

0:19:46 > 0:19:49I really love the way he's bringing a contemporary

0:19:49 > 0:19:52new look into Diana and Steve's home.

0:19:52 > 0:19:57This is a daring scheme and either this is going to be massively

0:19:57 > 0:20:01successful or, "Oh, no. This is a total disaster."

0:20:01 > 0:20:04There's nothing in-between on this project.

0:20:05 > 0:20:07After clearing the room,

0:20:07 > 0:20:11Jordan wastes no time in splashing on some bright tones.

0:20:11 > 0:20:14A lamp I picked up in an antiques market.

0:20:14 > 0:20:17I gave it a quick undercoat which has now gone off

0:20:17 > 0:20:20and I'm giving it a top coat of this lovely mustard yellow,

0:20:20 > 0:20:22which is the same colour as Diana's favourite chair.

0:20:22 > 0:20:25With the shade on it, I think it's going to look really smart.

0:20:25 > 0:20:28Ideally I would have sprayed it, because it's quite a tricky shape,

0:20:28 > 0:20:30but I couldn't get a spray that matched the colour

0:20:30 > 0:20:34I wanted for the room so...small brush and a lot of patience.

0:20:38 > 0:20:41Work is now under way in all four of the rooms.

0:20:41 > 0:20:44The challenge for our designers will be to enhance

0:20:44 > 0:20:47what are already such beautifully designed homes.

0:20:47 > 0:20:50Lord Milton's architect William Chambers made the designs

0:20:50 > 0:20:53as simple as he could so they could be put up by unskilled workers.

0:20:53 > 0:20:56Even the residents of the old village themselves

0:20:56 > 0:20:59often using reclaimed materials from their newly demolished homes.

0:21:01 > 0:21:04Chambers was best known for the neo-classical style

0:21:04 > 0:21:07but in fact he could turn his hand to anything.

0:21:07 > 0:21:10In the village he went for a more rustic look

0:21:10 > 0:21:13with brick chimneys which, set on both sides of the house,

0:21:13 > 0:21:15are typical of Georgian architecture.

0:21:15 > 0:21:18Each cottage was then subdivided into four dwellings,

0:21:18 > 0:21:20two at the front and two at the back,

0:21:20 > 0:21:22so that up to 36 people, at any one time,

0:21:22 > 0:21:24could be living in each building.

0:21:25 > 0:21:29Luckily modern day living means fewer people per cottage,

0:21:29 > 0:21:31giving the occupants more space.

0:21:31 > 0:21:35And it's this living space our designers are now updating.

0:21:35 > 0:21:38With only £1,000 the amateur designers have to be clever

0:21:38 > 0:21:42with how they spend their money, and for her modern woodland look,

0:21:42 > 0:21:45Sarah's found ways to cut back.

0:21:45 > 0:21:47This is my internet auction sofa.

0:21:47 > 0:21:49It doesn't look great at the moment

0:21:49 > 0:21:53but it's going to be a fantastic contrast when it's finished, I hope.

0:21:53 > 0:21:56The sofa cost £170,

0:21:56 > 0:22:00and she's avoiding extra expense by doing the hard work herself.

0:22:01 > 0:22:03I've never upholstered a sofa before

0:22:03 > 0:22:06and all the cushions have already gone off to be re-upholstered

0:22:06 > 0:22:09so they are fantastic and going to be beautiful.

0:22:12 > 0:22:14I'm hoping that I can do justice to this.

0:22:14 > 0:22:16I'm aware of the fact this is their family sofa,

0:22:16 > 0:22:18they're going to be sitting on it every day.

0:22:18 > 0:22:20It can't be an amateur effort,

0:22:20 > 0:22:22it has to be really substantial and really well done.

0:22:22 > 0:22:25It's looking great, I absolutely love it

0:22:25 > 0:22:27but I have got one little concern.

0:22:27 > 0:22:30I'm not sure it's Lars and I'm not sure it's Monique.

0:22:30 > 0:22:33This sort of patchwork look I don't think is theirs.

0:22:39 > 0:22:43A few doors down Jordan has concerns about his bold colour scheme.

0:22:45 > 0:22:47I was a little bit nervous. I mean, the fabric's quite bold.

0:22:47 > 0:22:50From her just seeing the mood board, it frightened her a little bit

0:22:50 > 0:22:53but, actually, once she sees the whole room she's going to love it.

0:22:53 > 0:22:56It's not the traditional chintz.

0:22:56 > 0:22:58It's a very bright, paintily floral

0:22:58 > 0:23:00and actually they're really on trend right now,

0:23:00 > 0:23:02this is the new way with floral.

0:23:02 > 0:23:05So she's going to have the trendiest house in the whole of Milton Abbas.

0:23:05 > 0:23:07She's going to be the envy of all the neighbours.

0:23:07 > 0:23:09There's no reason you get to a certain age

0:23:09 > 0:23:13that you can't enjoy pattern and colour and go for something bold.

0:23:13 > 0:23:15It's all about the fabrics really in that room,

0:23:15 > 0:23:18he's keeping it very plain and neutral.

0:23:18 > 0:23:22The only slight nag is this is a very big leap for Diana

0:23:22 > 0:23:26to take on board, it's going to look incredibly different in there.

0:23:29 > 0:23:31With his rustic period design in mind,

0:23:31 > 0:23:35Johnny's starting with a traditional coloured paint.

0:23:35 > 0:23:38John and Peggy like natural heritage colour

0:23:38 > 0:23:42so I decided to go for this "starling's egg",

0:23:42 > 0:23:48which is like a pale blue, lighter than the duck egg blue,

0:23:48 > 0:23:50which I felt would have been a bit too cold.

0:23:50 > 0:23:53He's doing well to stay constrained because, you know,

0:23:53 > 0:23:56Johnny's rock'n'roll, not Milton Abbas.

0:24:01 > 0:24:04Before she can start on her autumnal colour scheme,

0:24:04 > 0:24:07there's a practical problem for Charmaine.

0:24:07 > 0:24:09I thought, "How are we going to build around this?"

0:24:09 > 0:24:11What we'll do is come here

0:24:11 > 0:24:16and we'll incorporate our radiator cover into the end of the cupboard.

0:24:16 > 0:24:20It's still usable space. We'll have to space it into the corner.

0:24:20 > 0:24:22I had to change the design a little bit

0:24:22 > 0:24:24but it's going to look great, actually,

0:24:24 > 0:24:28that it's going to wrap around and cover the heater

0:24:28 > 0:24:30and incorporate it into the window seat.

0:24:32 > 0:24:36She has got such an ambitious project.

0:24:36 > 0:24:40Acres of bespoke shelving and cupboards.

0:24:40 > 0:24:44I'm just concerned she may have bitten off more than she can chew.

0:24:46 > 0:24:49Day one is drawing to a close for our quarterfinalists.

0:24:50 > 0:24:52Smooth sailing.

0:24:52 > 0:24:56Which I don't know is a good thing or a bad thing at this stage.

0:24:56 > 0:24:59But, yes, I'm still confident.

0:25:01 > 0:25:04But, for Sarah, the night is still young.

0:25:04 > 0:25:07Slightly unconventional, sewing in the dark.

0:25:07 > 0:25:09I'd really love to get this finished today,

0:25:09 > 0:25:11it'd be a great thing to check off the list

0:25:11 > 0:25:13and then tomorrow we can really get stuck into all the furniture

0:25:13 > 0:25:15and get the pattern on the walls.

0:25:23 > 0:25:27It's day two, and after winning one heat already

0:25:27 > 0:25:30our designers are now competing for a place in the semifinals,

0:25:30 > 0:25:33but only two can go through.

0:25:34 > 0:25:36With so much to play for,

0:25:36 > 0:25:38the designers have really got to step up a gear

0:25:38 > 0:25:41to deliver their briefs to their homeowners.

0:25:42 > 0:25:46To bring textures to Charmaine's autumnal colour scheme

0:25:46 > 0:25:48she's putting up some blinds.

0:25:48 > 0:25:51But unfortunately her client gave her the wrong measurements.

0:25:51 > 0:25:54- This is the one that came. - Oh, I'm sorry!

0:25:54 > 0:25:57No, no. Don't worry about it, I'm going to fix it.

0:25:57 > 0:25:59I'm going to fix it.

0:25:59 > 0:26:02I'm either going to make a new one or I'm going to do something very

0:26:02 > 0:26:04special with this one, I haven't quite decided yet.

0:26:04 > 0:26:07This is actually in very good nick and it's the perfect size.

0:26:07 > 0:26:09It's a blackout also,

0:26:09 > 0:26:12so I'm just sort of having a bit of a tinker around with those

0:26:12 > 0:26:16and I'll figure something out. Don't worry about it, I can fix it.

0:26:16 > 0:26:19- OK.- Situations like this,

0:26:19 > 0:26:21it's important to be adaptable and flexible.

0:26:21 > 0:26:24I'm going to get my A game on and I'm going to get sewing

0:26:24 > 0:26:28and get crafting and make sure everything looks beautiful.

0:26:28 > 0:26:32And I've just noticed a crack in the wall! It wasn't there yesterday.

0:26:32 > 0:26:35Oh, my God! The plaster's falling off!

0:26:35 > 0:26:38So, yeah, A game on. It's on.

0:26:39 > 0:26:43Having finished reupholstering her sofa, Sarah turns her attention

0:26:43 > 0:26:46to the more modern elements of her woodland theme.

0:26:46 > 0:26:48I'm really worried about the lighting.

0:26:48 > 0:26:51Lars and Monique had their pendant light swinging off.

0:26:51 > 0:26:54They have a clip in the ceiling and I thought about doing the same thing

0:26:54 > 0:26:58but I'm worried that it's just not going to look lovely enough.

0:26:58 > 0:27:01I've got three flexes and I'm going to wind them round...

0:27:01 > 0:27:03it's actually a wreath frame,

0:27:03 > 0:27:05that you buy when you're making a Christmas wreath.

0:27:05 > 0:27:07A copper frame, basically.

0:27:07 > 0:27:10and the weight is going to be self-supporting.

0:27:10 > 0:27:12It's level, when it's dressed it's going to look lovely.

0:27:12 > 0:27:15I've got some birds to go into it.

0:27:15 > 0:27:17I think I'm going to be pleased with it when it's done.

0:27:17 > 0:27:19This isn't the only light.

0:27:19 > 0:27:21They could always knock this one off and use another light.

0:27:21 > 0:27:25- What's your plan with that?- Well, I've actually, I've bought a twig...

0:27:25 > 0:27:28well, quite a substantial bit of silver birch down.

0:27:28 > 0:27:31- This one here?- Yeah.- Oh, my goodness. It's quite amazing

0:27:32 > 0:27:34And how will you light it?

0:27:34 > 0:27:36I have another one of these flexes that literally has

0:27:36 > 0:27:39a plug on the end, and a bulb.

0:27:39 > 0:27:42- And it's just one bulb hanging off this?- It is.

0:27:42 > 0:27:46Sarah's a designer who has lots and lots of creative ideas.

0:27:46 > 0:27:51Some super ideas but I just wonder if we're going one idea too far.

0:27:51 > 0:27:54It's really got a lot of algae and dirt on it basically,

0:27:54 > 0:27:56so I've borrowed Lars' jet washer.

0:27:56 > 0:28:00I've never used one before so I'm going in.

0:28:03 > 0:28:06While Sarah cleans up the bark on her lamp stand...

0:28:07 > 0:28:10..further down the road Jordan's working hard

0:28:10 > 0:28:13- to prove he knows how to play with colour.- What's going on here?

0:28:13 > 0:28:16I'm just doing a dip dye effect on the lampshades

0:28:16 > 0:28:18for the wall lights behind.

0:28:18 > 0:28:21It's just water and a concentrated watercolour.

0:28:21 > 0:28:23It's not an ink then,

0:28:23 > 0:28:25it's a watercolour paint that you get from an artist's shop?

0:28:25 > 0:28:27Yep, absolutely. Fingers crossed.

0:28:27 > 0:28:30Just hold it in there for a couple of seconds.

0:28:30 > 0:28:32And then the dry fabric is soaking up.

0:28:32 > 0:28:36That's it, and it'll actually climb up a little bit as well.

0:28:36 > 0:28:39Jordan's got the potential to pull off quite a daring colour scheme.

0:28:39 > 0:28:42I mean, he's really giving this country cottage look

0:28:42 > 0:28:45a very contemporary twist.

0:28:45 > 0:28:46But is it too daring?

0:28:50 > 0:28:52Keeping to his homeowners' rustic brief,

0:28:52 > 0:28:56Johnny's using natural wood to cover the modern radiator.

0:28:56 > 0:28:59Can't wait to see the shelving now!

0:29:00 > 0:29:03Having moderated his style so far,

0:29:03 > 0:29:05he's keen to release some creative flair

0:29:05 > 0:29:07on the leftover wood in the garden.

0:29:07 > 0:29:12Just sizing up the two side legs for the standard lamp.

0:29:12 > 0:29:15So this is the main piece, these are the two side bits.

0:29:15 > 0:29:18I think it'll look nice.

0:29:21 > 0:29:26What's bringing the room together is using this local sourced wood,

0:29:26 > 0:29:29that's giving the room the character.

0:29:29 > 0:29:32This is really going to tie the room into the rustic,

0:29:32 > 0:29:34traditional country house feel.

0:29:36 > 0:29:39Hopefully that vision I have of the room, it'll come together.

0:29:39 > 0:29:41I know Johnny loves modernism

0:29:41 > 0:29:46but he's really showing that he's able to be an adaptable designer.

0:29:50 > 0:29:54Our amateurs are working hard on the insides of these idyllic cottages.

0:29:54 > 0:29:57That would look really funny on there, wouldn't it?

0:29:58 > 0:30:01But 240 years ago it wasn't just the buildings

0:30:01 > 0:30:04that Lord Milton was keen to redesign.

0:30:04 > 0:30:07This may look like the green and pleasant land of Britain

0:30:07 > 0:30:10but it's not as natural as it appears.

0:30:10 > 0:30:12In the 1700s landscaping was all the rage

0:30:12 > 0:30:14and one name stood above the rest,

0:30:14 > 0:30:18the most prolific name in design, Lancelot "Capability" Brown,

0:30:18 > 0:30:22so called because of his dictum that any land was capable of improvement.

0:30:24 > 0:30:27Brown was renowned for his determined attitude,

0:30:27 > 0:30:29shown here by his agreement with Lord Milton than the old

0:30:29 > 0:30:32village should be demolished. It may have been controversial

0:30:32 > 0:30:36but over time the residents did benefit and now Brown's work

0:30:36 > 0:30:39here in Dorset is considered among his best in the whole country.

0:30:45 > 0:30:49The designers are just halfway through their three-day challenge

0:30:49 > 0:30:53and for Sarah it's time to bring out her secret weapon.

0:30:54 > 0:30:57In the first round I used this roller to put a very lovely pattern,

0:30:57 > 0:31:00cow parsley seed heads, and that was on one wall in grey.

0:31:00 > 0:31:02There was a grey wall with some white on it.

0:31:02 > 0:31:04This time I'm doing the reverse.

0:31:04 > 0:31:09It's going to show up a lot more using a dark paint on the distemper.

0:31:11 > 0:31:15Keeping a steady hand is crucial for making the pattern knit together.

0:31:15 > 0:31:18That looks great, doesn't it? I'm glad you're doing it, not me.

0:31:18 > 0:31:22I think if you seek perfection when you're doing this, you will fail.

0:31:22 > 0:31:24In general if it's going off course,

0:31:24 > 0:31:27it's just the way it is, you know. I try my hardest.

0:31:27 > 0:31:30I'm a bit concerned that it looks like wrapping paper,

0:31:30 > 0:31:32it's standing out quite a lot, it's quite bold.

0:31:32 > 0:31:34You come in, your eyes are drawn to it

0:31:34 > 0:31:36and it does look a bit Christmassy.

0:31:36 > 0:31:38I think it probably needs to dry a bit.

0:31:38 > 0:31:40SHE SIGHS

0:31:40 > 0:31:43Jordan's curtains are back from the seamstress.

0:31:43 > 0:31:46- I mean, what the hell? - But there's a problem.

0:31:47 > 0:31:50I'm holding it underneath the window.

0:31:50 > 0:31:54It's going to be about there. And then that one is just ginormous!

0:31:56 > 0:31:58That's for the door.

0:32:04 > 0:32:06The curtains appear to have been made short,

0:32:06 > 0:32:09which could be disastrous.

0:32:12 > 0:32:15I don't know what else to say, dun dun dun!

0:32:22 > 0:32:25After struggling to finish his room in the last round, Johnny must

0:32:25 > 0:32:30show the judges that he's capable of managing this project to time.

0:32:30 > 0:32:33Wow, Johnny. You've moved on.

0:32:33 > 0:32:34Slightly, slightly.

0:32:34 > 0:32:37- No, not slightly, a lot! This is fantastic.- Thank you.

0:32:37 > 0:32:41We've got a sort of joinery fiesta going on there on the other

0:32:41 > 0:32:43side of this room, haven't we?

0:32:43 > 0:32:45Please don't mention that! It's not finished yet.

0:32:45 > 0:32:48It's not finished yet, it looks like a giraffe at the moment.

0:32:48 > 0:32:51There's not many giraffes around here so I doubt it's indigenous.

0:32:51 > 0:32:53I'm guessing it's a lamp stand, right?

0:32:53 > 0:32:57- And you've taken quite a modern inspiration.- I have.

0:32:57 > 0:33:00- And is it working for you? - Kind of.

0:33:00 > 0:33:02You're not really happy with it.

0:33:02 > 0:33:04- No, I'm not really. - Maybe it's too much?

0:33:04 > 0:33:08There's the fireplace there so maybe that will go into the fire.

0:33:08 > 0:33:11THEY LAUGH

0:33:11 > 0:33:14- So there's a use to it! - It has a use, yes!

0:33:16 > 0:33:20Further up the road, using just a small slice of her budget,

0:33:20 > 0:33:23Charmaine's paid £20 for a piece of foam to create

0:33:23 > 0:33:25a window seat cushion.

0:33:25 > 0:33:26Voila!

0:33:28 > 0:33:30Perfect!

0:33:33 > 0:33:37No. Hang on, no, it's not perfect.

0:33:39 > 0:33:41Put it in place, and although I measured it,

0:33:41 > 0:33:47it's actually a little bit too short. It'll work, it'll work.

0:33:47 > 0:33:48I'm a designer, I can do this.

0:33:50 > 0:33:54This British tweed style fabric has taken just £100

0:33:54 > 0:33:56out of her £1,000 budget.

0:33:56 > 0:34:00I see you've chosen this wool plaid and wool fabrics are a great

0:34:00 > 0:34:03way of getting some rustic texture and some warmth into a scheme.

0:34:03 > 0:34:05Absolutely. Corrine talked a lot about autumnal colours

0:34:05 > 0:34:07and she actually mentioned that she liked tartan

0:34:07 > 0:34:10so I definitely wanted to throw a bit of that in there

0:34:10 > 0:34:12and, like I said, yes, some authentic tartan.

0:34:12 > 0:34:14Good, excellent.

0:34:14 > 0:34:16It's probably the only bit of sewing that I'm going to be doing

0:34:16 > 0:34:21this time round because the biggest part is the built-in storage.

0:34:21 > 0:34:24Charmaine's showing herself to be a great project manager,

0:34:24 > 0:34:28she's had that enormous bit of bespoke fitted storage design and build.

0:34:28 > 0:34:30There's also a look that we're looking for.

0:34:30 > 0:34:34She's going to have to pull it together on all the accessorising

0:34:34 > 0:34:37the cushions and the finishes, I'm still not quite sure.

0:34:37 > 0:34:40So that's the final bit I've just stitched on there,

0:34:40 > 0:34:46I'm going to turn it inside out now, and try and fit my cushion in.

0:34:55 > 0:34:56What a nightmare!

0:35:06 > 0:35:07Much better.

0:35:11 > 0:35:14Our amateurs have until lunchtime tomorrow to get their designs

0:35:14 > 0:35:17for these traditional living rooms looking just right.

0:35:17 > 0:35:20But when this model village was built,

0:35:20 > 0:35:24the focus was on outside aesthetics, demanding precise planning.

0:35:25 > 0:35:28Each cottage is built on a very generous plot of land,

0:35:28 > 0:35:30so out the front there's a lovely lawn

0:35:30 > 0:35:32and originally, at the rear, there would have been space

0:35:32 > 0:35:35for an allotment and somewhere to keep your chickens, and your pigs.

0:35:35 > 0:35:38Each cottage has a thatched roof which keeps it cosy in winter

0:35:38 > 0:35:41and cool in summer but of course it's highly flammable.

0:35:41 > 0:35:43So to counter this, they placed the cottages far apart

0:35:43 > 0:35:46and in-between, brown planted chestnut trees,

0:35:46 > 0:35:49living would be far less flammable than deadwood.

0:35:50 > 0:35:54There are several wells in the village fed from a local spring,

0:35:54 > 0:35:56reducing the need to travel for water.

0:35:56 > 0:36:00And the entire village is built on a gradient, so all the drainage

0:36:00 > 0:36:04flows that way, making the air generally more pleasant.

0:36:05 > 0:36:08It's late afternoon of day two

0:36:08 > 0:36:11and Sarah's unhappy with her wall design.

0:36:11 > 0:36:13I really want to cover up some of these darker lines

0:36:13 > 0:36:15that are really jumping out,

0:36:15 > 0:36:18so I'm just getting a little bit of wet paint on this one. Well,

0:36:18 > 0:36:22at this rate I'm thinking it's best to re-paint it all and re-do it.

0:36:22 > 0:36:25- It won't take me long to paint it. - Just paint it.

0:36:25 > 0:36:28I think it'll look bad if it's a bad fix. I might as well be bold

0:36:28 > 0:36:30and start again and just clear it up.

0:36:31 > 0:36:33I think we know what we need to do.

0:36:35 > 0:36:38I was really hoping to get the curtains up this evening.

0:36:38 > 0:36:41They've just been jetted off to somebody who's kindly offered

0:36:41 > 0:36:44to try and repair them for us, and hopefully they're going to be

0:36:44 > 0:36:47back tomorrow ready to hang in the morning.

0:36:47 > 0:36:51Tomorrow, all I really want to do now is bring the furniture back in,

0:36:51 > 0:36:56put some throws over the sofa, and actually sit down on the sofa

0:36:56 > 0:36:59and have a look where I am, with a cup of tea.

0:37:01 > 0:37:03Just up the road, uneven walls are causing

0:37:03 > 0:37:05problems for Charmaine's unit.

0:37:07 > 0:37:11It's not a problem, you just need to stick a leg on.

0:37:11 > 0:37:14I'm panicking now.

0:37:14 > 0:37:16I'll be devastated if things aren't finished tomorrow but I'm not

0:37:16 > 0:37:20even thinking about that because they will be finished tomorrow.

0:37:20 > 0:37:21We can do it.

0:37:34 > 0:37:36So time is nearly up for our designers.

0:37:36 > 0:37:39Today the homeowners will see their rooms

0:37:39 > 0:37:41and what they think of them will help the judges decide

0:37:41 > 0:37:44who goes through to the next stage of the competition.

0:37:51 > 0:37:54After being unhappy with her paint roller effect yesterday,

0:37:54 > 0:37:57Sarah's aiming for more subtle results.

0:37:57 > 0:37:58That's my new colour.

0:37:59 > 0:38:03Just a few hours before the deadline this is her last attempt

0:38:03 > 0:38:05to get it right.

0:38:05 > 0:38:09That's definitely putting it in the background, isn't it?

0:38:09 > 0:38:12The wall is looking better, I think the colour looks great.

0:38:12 > 0:38:14It looks like it might have been here 100 years,

0:38:14 > 0:38:16not painted today so that's really good.

0:38:16 > 0:38:19Little woodland accent going on in the background

0:38:19 > 0:38:21rather than a full forest.

0:38:27 > 0:38:29That's all right, isn't it?

0:38:29 > 0:38:31We can call it a day. I'm on schedule,

0:38:31 > 0:38:33definitely ahead of time and not pushed for anything, so that's

0:38:33 > 0:38:37a bit worrying because I'm thinking perhaps I'm not doing enough.

0:38:42 > 0:38:44A few doors down there's been a delivery.

0:38:44 > 0:38:47Curtains are back from the emergency seamstress

0:38:47 > 0:38:49and I'm about to open them and check if they're right.

0:38:54 > 0:38:57Look at that, aren't they groovy?

0:38:57 > 0:39:00Absolutely wonderful, it's brilliant, I couldn't be happier.

0:39:00 > 0:39:02Panic over and all systems go.

0:39:04 > 0:39:06Keen to prove he can be brave with colour,

0:39:06 > 0:39:09Jordan's painting the rocking chair.

0:39:09 > 0:39:12Although on its own it may seem like quite a pop of colour,

0:39:12 > 0:39:15once it's sitting against the fireplace with the brick wall,

0:39:15 > 0:39:19I think the contrast of that is really going to stand out beautifully.

0:39:21 > 0:39:24To bring his natural scheme together

0:39:24 > 0:39:27Johnny's using some rustic-looking fabric.

0:39:27 > 0:39:29I'm trying to get the extension

0:39:29 > 0:39:33but the extension won't plug in the wall!

0:39:33 > 0:39:34I'm going to do a little...

0:39:34 > 0:39:37Well, it's the first time I've attempted it actually.

0:39:37 > 0:39:39I've got some fabric left over from the curtains

0:39:39 > 0:39:42and I'm going to glue it to the interior of the lamp,

0:39:42 > 0:39:45hopefully it'll give it its own uniqueness.

0:39:45 > 0:39:47I don't know, the room does look a bit bare

0:39:47 > 0:39:50but I don't want to overcrowd this quaint little

0:39:50 > 0:39:54cottage, you know? I don't want to put too much stuff in it.

0:39:54 > 0:39:57Great little touch even if I say so myself.

0:40:01 > 0:40:04With work not going to plan there have been some changes to

0:40:04 > 0:40:07Charmaine's bespoke unit.

0:40:07 > 0:40:08I've run out of time

0:40:08 > 0:40:12and I'm not getting to build my shelving unit over the door.

0:40:12 > 0:40:16My main concern is obviously I want to get through

0:40:16 > 0:40:19but I really just want to do a good job for the homeowner.

0:40:19 > 0:40:22Corrine really deserves it. I don't think it would affect

0:40:22 > 0:40:26the design much because I've still given her a lot of storage.

0:40:26 > 0:40:30Having spent a third of her budget on the sofa, she's

0:40:30 > 0:40:33struggling to find a home for it in the room.

0:40:33 > 0:40:36Great start, it's not fitting.

0:40:36 > 0:40:37It fits in the room,

0:40:37 > 0:40:41it just doesn't fit INTO the room, which is a bit of a nuisance.

0:40:42 > 0:40:48I actually don't even know how much time I have left, which isn't great.

0:40:50 > 0:40:52It's quite heavy.

0:40:54 > 0:40:57Our designers have had three days and £1,000

0:40:57 > 0:41:01to create front rooms fit for these thatched cottages.

0:41:01 > 0:41:05That looks beautiful, mate, you've done a lovely job of that.

0:41:08 > 0:41:10They have been working to different briefs,

0:41:10 > 0:41:13each presenting its own set of challenges.

0:41:13 > 0:41:16At this point, I can't help but wonder if any of the other

0:41:16 > 0:41:21designers are up a ladder weaving acorns into their light fitting.

0:41:21 > 0:41:24All four are racing to the finish and it's up to the judges to

0:41:24 > 0:41:27decide who will go through to the semifinals.

0:41:27 > 0:41:29I'm just stressing, Steve.

0:41:29 > 0:41:31Yeah? No worries.

0:41:31 > 0:41:34Dressing or stressing?

0:41:34 > 0:41:36I think it's looking super,

0:41:36 > 0:41:42I love the final result and I just hope Diana does too.

0:41:44 > 0:41:46I'm done.

0:41:46 > 0:41:47That's it, we're done.

0:41:54 > 0:41:57First to be judged is Johnny who had to prove

0:41:57 > 0:42:01he could pull a whole room together with his rustic, cottagey design.

0:42:02 > 0:42:04Three days ago it felt cramped,

0:42:04 > 0:42:08with traditional features battling the modern additions.

0:42:21 > 0:42:24Now, the room feels more airy,

0:42:24 > 0:42:26with a natural wood radiator cover,

0:42:26 > 0:42:28a set of handmade laddered shelves,

0:42:28 > 0:42:32and a bespoke lamp creating soft lighting throughout the room.

0:42:35 > 0:42:38Showing he can work in keeping with period properties,

0:42:38 > 0:42:41Johnny has used heritage pattern prints for his curtains,

0:42:41 > 0:42:44repeating the theme across his design.

0:42:50 > 0:42:52That's a transformation, isn't it?

0:42:52 > 0:42:55It's more than that, it's just lovely.

0:42:55 > 0:42:58He's been really sensitive to the period of the house,

0:42:58 > 0:43:01their love of all the natural materials.

0:43:01 > 0:43:03He hasn't put himself in here,

0:43:03 > 0:43:05and yet he has given them an updated look.

0:43:05 > 0:43:08And I even like the radiator cover.

0:43:08 > 0:43:10It's really cool.

0:43:10 > 0:43:13Look at it, this is this green oak,

0:43:13 > 0:43:16so you've got that lovely softness to it.

0:43:16 > 0:43:18- He's known to keep the rustic edges. - Exactly. And I think this is

0:43:18 > 0:43:21what's happening here as well with the laddered shelving.

0:43:21 > 0:43:24They've actually made it look like it's got little pegs,

0:43:24 > 0:43:27- it's been pegged together.- My sort of overall feeling, actually,

0:43:27 > 0:43:29looking around the room, it's all very pleasing,

0:43:29 > 0:43:33but it has lost, for me, an element of that lovely, snug, cosy feeling

0:43:33 > 0:43:35that Peggy and John had created.

0:43:35 > 0:43:39It does feel quite cool in here, and I wonder whether he's taken it

0:43:39 > 0:43:42a little bit too far, stripped a bit too much out of this room.

0:43:43 > 0:43:46How well each designer fulfils the brief

0:43:46 > 0:43:49is crucial to the judge's decision.

0:43:49 > 0:43:52Homeowners John and Peggy will now see the completed room

0:43:52 > 0:43:53for the first time.

0:43:53 > 0:43:55So?

0:43:55 > 0:43:56Wonderful!

0:43:56 > 0:43:58This is restful.

0:43:58 > 0:44:02You keep looking around and you keep seeing something different.

0:44:02 > 0:44:06I just never expected it to turn out like that.

0:44:06 > 0:44:08And then, this you see...

0:44:08 > 0:44:13I really do like the cover, it becomes a kind of feature,

0:44:13 > 0:44:17- a piece of furniture, not a horrible old radiator.- It is!

0:44:20 > 0:44:24Next up, and wanting to show her versatility, is Sarah,

0:44:24 > 0:44:27who designed a woodland theme with modern touches.

0:44:30 > 0:44:33Before, this was a plain, uninspiring living room.

0:44:44 > 0:44:47Now, it's been completely transformed,

0:44:47 > 0:44:49with natural colours and fabrics,

0:44:49 > 0:44:51items from the garden,

0:44:51 > 0:44:53and home-made woodland creatures.

0:44:53 > 0:44:56She's added a new set of curtains,

0:44:56 > 0:44:58a large rug, and a cleverly designed tray

0:44:58 > 0:45:03to store children's toys, which rolls under the sofa.

0:45:03 > 0:45:06To give the room a more modern edge, Sarah has introduced

0:45:06 > 0:45:08designer light bulbs and more contemporary furniture,

0:45:08 > 0:45:12including a coffee table and a re-upholstered 1960s sofa.

0:45:15 > 0:45:17Oh, wow.

0:45:19 > 0:45:23- Look at the little birds.- Gosh. - The first thing I spotted.

0:45:23 > 0:45:25This has worked very successfully.

0:45:25 > 0:45:28First time round she recognised that it was too strong

0:45:28 > 0:45:31and so she went to the trouble of painting it all out and doing it

0:45:31 > 0:45:35again in a very subtle effect and I think that's lovely

0:45:35 > 0:45:38and I think that was important in this room, that it doesn't

0:45:38 > 0:45:42become too cluttered visually, that it still feels clean and simple.

0:45:42 > 0:45:44For me, I think this is ingenious

0:45:44 > 0:45:48and it's an idea that, frankly, I'm going to steal.

0:45:48 > 0:45:51Putting all the toys underneath the sofa is a great idea.

0:45:51 > 0:45:55I think it's really fun and there's humour and thought in it.

0:45:55 > 0:45:57I'm not sure how relaxing these lights are.

0:45:57 > 0:45:58Yeah, they're a bit harsh.

0:45:58 > 0:46:01I think what we need in here is a dimmer switch, that simple.

0:46:01 > 0:46:04It's a very practical lighting, though, and I just love the idea

0:46:04 > 0:46:06of the branch, I mean, how ingenious.

0:46:06 > 0:46:09Sarah's certainly brought the outside in.

0:46:09 > 0:46:11Really depends if Lars and Monique like it.

0:46:11 > 0:46:14If they don't like it, this is not a winning design.

0:46:21 > 0:46:24- Oh, wow.- Wow.

0:46:24 > 0:46:25Oh, my goodness.

0:46:25 > 0:46:28- What do you think? - Very good.

0:46:28 > 0:46:30It's amazing! Beautiful.

0:46:30 > 0:46:33It's really light, isn't it?

0:46:33 > 0:46:35Has she managed to square the circle between a cosy room

0:46:35 > 0:46:36but also a modern room?

0:46:36 > 0:46:39I think so, yeah, it's very modern, isn't it?

0:46:39 > 0:46:42I like the way she takes old things and puts them together

0:46:42 > 0:46:45and makes it look new. It's my kind of style, I like that.

0:46:45 > 0:46:47Brilliant. And a little tray for Viggo.

0:46:47 > 0:46:49Looks like Norway to me, I can see that.

0:46:49 > 0:46:52Denmark there as well, I think. What do you think of the light?

0:46:52 > 0:46:55- I love the light.- And I love the wall, with the stencil.

0:46:55 > 0:46:57Yes, you can just see it.

0:46:57 > 0:47:02The pattern there is great but maybe just that little bit too...

0:47:02 > 0:47:04- Too subtle? - Too subtle, exactly.

0:47:04 > 0:47:08I actually like it subtle, I wouldn't want it to be overpowering.

0:47:08 > 0:47:10There you go, she wouldn't have pleased both of you.

0:47:10 > 0:47:12No, you can never please both of us.

0:47:15 > 0:47:18Next, Charmaine's design for a country cottage look

0:47:18 > 0:47:19with autumnal colours.

0:47:23 > 0:47:26Three days ago it had the feel of a holiday cottage,

0:47:26 > 0:47:28lacking warmth and seating space.

0:47:40 > 0:47:43She's now transformed the room with a large bespoke unit

0:47:43 > 0:47:45with designer touches.

0:47:47 > 0:47:51And a comfortable L-shaped sofa bringing the whole family together.

0:47:54 > 0:47:57She's dressed the windows with a natural tweed fabric

0:47:57 > 0:48:00and created a new window seat with tartan material,

0:48:00 > 0:48:05all in autumnal shades - giving a cosy warm feel to the room.

0:48:08 > 0:48:10- I think that's very nice. - It's lovely.

0:48:10 > 0:48:14Yeah, I mean, that was a really ambitious part of the brief,

0:48:14 > 0:48:19to build this bespoke unit and I think this is a lovely idea,

0:48:19 > 0:48:21putting wallpaper in the back, so rather than it just being

0:48:21 > 0:48:25painted white, she's adding a little bit of texture and interest that

0:48:25 > 0:48:29makes it feel a bit older and also links in with the cushion fabrics.

0:48:29 > 0:48:32I like what she's done with the window seat,

0:48:32 > 0:48:33because it was a little bit narrow.

0:48:33 > 0:48:37You actually now could sit in that sidewards and read

0:48:37 > 0:48:40- and look out the window.- The other thing that's jumping out for me

0:48:40 > 0:48:44is how this room very much looks as it was presented at the beginning.

0:48:44 > 0:48:48She did her board, she did her plan,

0:48:48 > 0:48:52and you very much see the journey from inception to presentation

0:48:52 > 0:48:55to the result, and I think that's very professional.

0:49:00 > 0:49:03- So, welcome to your new cosy look. - Wow.

0:49:05 > 0:49:08Oh, it's beautiful, I love the sofa, this is gorgeous.

0:49:08 > 0:49:13What I like is the fact that now we can all sit together on the sofa

0:49:13 > 0:49:14without fighting.

0:49:14 > 0:49:18We had plenty of seats before but for some reason it didn't work.

0:49:18 > 0:49:21And say goodbye to your shelving unit on the side of the windows,

0:49:21 > 0:49:23you've got a whole new bespoke made one here.

0:49:23 > 0:49:28Yes this is...wow...it works so well with the wallpaper. Brilliant.

0:49:32 > 0:49:36Finally, it's Jordan's colourful cosy cottage design.

0:49:39 > 0:49:42Before, it was overcrowded, with a lot of dark furniture.

0:49:55 > 0:49:59It's now a less cluttered room with an eye-catching scheme.

0:50:00 > 0:50:02Keen to prove he could work with colour,

0:50:02 > 0:50:05Jordan has dressed the room with bold floral curtains,

0:50:05 > 0:50:09bright lampshades, a bright pink rocking chair,

0:50:09 > 0:50:11and other personal touches.

0:50:16 > 0:50:19He's also added a bespoke radiator cover,

0:50:19 > 0:50:20and removed the carpet,

0:50:20 > 0:50:22revealing the wooden floor beneath.

0:50:25 > 0:50:27Oof!

0:50:27 > 0:50:29HE LAUGHS

0:50:29 > 0:50:32- Gosh, it looks so different, doesn't it?- Oh, it's such a happy room.

0:50:32 > 0:50:35What an interpretation of the country, great fun.

0:50:35 > 0:50:37I think the layout is the first thing that hits me.

0:50:37 > 0:50:42Do you remember that room? You could hardly move for chairs and furniture.

0:50:42 > 0:50:45This is great, she can move around with ease.

0:50:45 > 0:50:46And on the brief she wanted

0:50:46 > 0:50:49a striking new treatment for her windows.

0:50:49 > 0:50:51But he's used the colours in the fabric throughout

0:50:51 > 0:50:54all the other soft furnishings and finishings which really brings

0:50:54 > 0:50:57the room together, and I think that's actually quite a difficult thing

0:50:57 > 0:51:00to do when you're using quite a lot of different colours together.

0:51:00 > 0:51:02The big pink element...

0:51:02 > 0:51:05- What do you think of the pink chair? - I love it.

0:51:05 > 0:51:09I quite love it because it's a pop of colour against the blue floor.

0:51:09 > 0:51:12We've always believed along the way he had to really go for it.

0:51:12 > 0:51:16You can't do this kind of look halfway, it'll just look half-baked.

0:51:16 > 0:51:19Yep, it would have looked dreadful. And he's gone all the way,

0:51:19 > 0:51:23but I do wonder if he's gone a little bit too far.

0:51:23 > 0:51:26We have these curtains, they look great, but he's washed down the look

0:51:26 > 0:51:30a little bit by actually having too much of the fabric

0:51:30 > 0:51:35and I think this curtain should have just picked out one of the colours

0:51:35 > 0:51:39from the rest of the room and then let those sing and this keep quiet.

0:51:43 > 0:51:47Oh, wow! That's terrific, isn't it?

0:51:47 > 0:51:49Wow, look at that!

0:51:49 > 0:51:52- Well, you can't miss it! - That's true!

0:51:52 > 0:51:55Absolutely true, yes.

0:51:55 > 0:51:56That really works, doesn't it?

0:51:56 > 0:51:58The boy's a genius.

0:52:00 > 0:52:02Well, you wanted a sort of statement window.

0:52:02 > 0:52:05It is a statement, yes. That's terrific.

0:52:05 > 0:52:07So, I'm getting positive vibes from you two.

0:52:07 > 0:52:09- Yes.- Very much so. - Yes, I think it's lovely.

0:52:09 > 0:52:11Cos it is a very big statement

0:52:11 > 0:52:13and I guess you're either going to like it or you're not.

0:52:13 > 0:52:15- It is.- Yes, it is, it's a terrific change.

0:52:15 > 0:52:19I think it's rather nice having it all turned round.

0:52:19 > 0:52:22Yes, I'll probably get used to a pink rocking chair, yes.

0:52:22 > 0:52:26I love the cushions so I think what it loses on the rocking chair,

0:52:26 > 0:52:27it gets back on the cushions.

0:52:27 > 0:52:30THEY LAUGH

0:52:32 > 0:52:38Now the designers can only wait to find out which two will go through.

0:52:38 > 0:52:41If I go through and I go through all of this again, that's great.

0:52:41 > 0:52:46I'm taking every day as it comes and loving what I'm doing, so we'll see.

0:52:46 > 0:52:50It means a lot to me to go through, because I want a career in interiors,

0:52:50 > 0:52:55it's something that comes natural - I'm creative.

0:52:55 > 0:52:59I've given it my all, you know, I've put my heart and my soul into it

0:52:59 > 0:53:02and it means the world to me to win this competition.

0:53:04 > 0:53:06I'd love to be in the semifinal

0:53:06 > 0:53:08and I'd love to be in the final,

0:53:08 > 0:53:11I've got to be honest. I always came into this as a competition

0:53:11 > 0:53:13and I want to go all the way.

0:53:16 > 0:53:18So, judges, you wanted the designers to up their game

0:53:18 > 0:53:20for this quarterfinal. Have they delivered?

0:53:20 > 0:53:23Oh, yes, and haven't they delivered wonderfully?

0:53:23 > 0:53:27It's very exciting, but it's going to make our decision very difficult.

0:53:27 > 0:53:32So, Lars and Monique wanted something that was rustic but modern, bright but cosy.

0:53:32 > 0:53:33Did Sarah deliver?

0:53:33 > 0:53:36She put in oodles of creativity,

0:53:36 > 0:53:41she shows that she's got boundless resource of ideas

0:53:41 > 0:53:43and that's lovely to see in a designer.

0:53:43 > 0:53:46My concern, though, was that were we getting

0:53:46 > 0:53:50a repetition of the style that we saw last time.

0:53:50 > 0:53:51Has she been versatile?

0:53:51 > 0:53:55Has she been able to address this brief in a slightly different way

0:53:55 > 0:53:57than she addressed the previous brief?

0:53:57 > 0:54:01How did Johnny translate in rustic, rural England?

0:54:01 > 0:54:03We know this is clearly out of his comfort zone.

0:54:03 > 0:54:07He needed to up his game a lot, and he has.

0:54:07 > 0:54:09He got that project done

0:54:09 > 0:54:10and he got it within budget.

0:54:10 > 0:54:14For me, where it maybe fell down a little bit is it was so cute

0:54:14 > 0:54:17and cosy and magical in there, even though it was a bit mad

0:54:17 > 0:54:21and cluttered and I just question maybe through his choice of colour

0:54:21 > 0:54:23whether he hadn't managed to make it quite as cosy,

0:54:23 > 0:54:26considering it was a room they want to enjoy in the evening as well.

0:54:26 > 0:54:28So did Charmaine fulfil her brief?

0:54:28 > 0:54:32Completely and she had a lot to fulfil and she did it all,

0:54:32 > 0:54:34and did it with such style as well.

0:54:34 > 0:54:37I thought she did incredibly well. I mean, she gave them

0:54:37 > 0:54:40a really large piece of bespoke storage,

0:54:40 > 0:54:43but I was really looking to see a little bit more from Charmaine

0:54:43 > 0:54:45from the first heat.

0:54:45 > 0:54:48Just to show that she has got some creativity, she can put an original

0:54:48 > 0:54:52twist on something and, for me, it probably fell down in that respect.

0:54:52 > 0:54:56Jordan. Diana wanted a cheerful room and she got a cheerful room.

0:54:56 > 0:54:59She certainly did and, personally, it put a big smile on my face,

0:54:59 > 0:55:02to see a designer be brave with colour.

0:55:02 > 0:55:07Where he went too far was when he put the extra curtain

0:55:07 > 0:55:10on the other wall and I thought that was a bit too much.

0:55:10 > 0:55:13I didn't want him to restrain, I just wanted for him to actually

0:55:13 > 0:55:17show that he really understands how to handle colour and pattern.

0:55:17 > 0:55:20He's got almost there, but not 100% for me.

0:55:20 > 0:55:23So, judges, four strong contenders in the quarters,

0:55:23 > 0:55:26but only two are going to go through to the semis.

0:55:34 > 0:55:37Hello, designers! Now, some might have been over-awed

0:55:37 > 0:55:39by this incredible chocolate-box setting

0:55:39 > 0:55:42but, you four, you rose to the occasion.

0:55:42 > 0:55:46You certainly did and it's also very clear that you took on board

0:55:46 > 0:55:50what we advised to you last time and have moved up a step.

0:55:50 > 0:55:53And, for me, I've just particularly loved seeing

0:55:53 > 0:55:56all your new and innovative ideas.

0:55:56 > 0:55:59But two of you rose beyond,

0:55:59 > 0:56:02and the two designers going through are...

0:56:06 > 0:56:07..Jordan...

0:56:09 > 0:56:10..and Sarah.

0:56:10 > 0:56:11Oh, God!

0:56:11 > 0:56:13Well done, all of you.

0:56:13 > 0:56:15- Guys!- Well done!

0:56:18 > 0:56:21I was really confident in my design, but I was really nervous

0:56:21 > 0:56:24that it wasn't going to be exactly what Diana was expecting,

0:56:24 > 0:56:27but I think, in the end, maybe that's what swung it for me.

0:56:27 > 0:56:28We really liked it.

0:56:28 > 0:56:30Oh, goodness, I'm so relieved!

0:56:30 > 0:56:33I didn't really think about things all the way through,

0:56:33 > 0:56:36just little bites of the cherry so I'm amazed I'm here

0:56:36 > 0:56:38and going forward.

0:56:38 > 0:56:40- Yeah, we love it. - Yeah, it's really nice.

0:56:40 > 0:56:43I'm not going to give up on interior design at all,

0:56:43 > 0:56:46it's my passion, it's my dream, I'm going to keep doing it.

0:56:46 > 0:56:49I'm sticking to my plan - world domination.

0:56:49 > 0:56:51- Do you like it?- It's beautiful!

0:56:51 > 0:56:54Oh! I'm so glad that you like it.

0:56:54 > 0:56:57If I'd got through to the semis, I'd have been proud of myself,

0:56:57 > 0:57:00but maybe I should be a bit proud. I've done all right, I think.

0:57:00 > 0:57:03- Did you like it?- Yeah.

0:57:03 > 0:57:05Well, Jordan took a lot of risk.

0:57:05 > 0:57:09He was very close to not coming through to the semifinal,

0:57:09 > 0:57:12but he pulled it off, he kept his client on board

0:57:12 > 0:57:15and did something that is really special and rather super.

0:57:16 > 0:57:21Sarah brings a very special magic to her designs,

0:57:21 > 0:57:23she really thinks in the detail.

0:57:23 > 0:57:27She's innovative, she's creative, there is no shortage of ideas.

0:57:27 > 0:57:30So when I'm looking to put a designer through to the next round,

0:57:30 > 0:57:32I'm confident with Sarah that she'll come up

0:57:32 > 0:57:34with more new and interesting ideas.

0:57:34 > 0:57:38Going forward into the semifinal, I want to see adaptability,

0:57:38 > 0:57:41I don't want them to be sticking to the same style,

0:57:41 > 0:57:43but actually addressing the problems,

0:57:43 > 0:57:47addressing the architecture and the people that live in these houses.

0:57:47 > 0:57:49This is getting a very exciting competition.

0:57:52 > 0:57:55These cottages were conceived to please a rich landowner's

0:57:55 > 0:57:58sense of aesthetics, designed by people hoping to create

0:57:58 > 0:58:00the perfect image of the English countryside.

0:58:00 > 0:58:04On the outside, they're still chocolate-box perfect,

0:58:04 > 0:58:08but they're just as idyllic on the inside too thanks to our designers.

0:58:08 > 0:58:12Modern and yet rustic, they'll be enjoyed by generations to come.

0:58:14 > 0:58:17Next time, the quarterfinals get brutal...

0:58:17 > 0:58:18Every minute counts on this one.

0:58:18 > 0:58:20Has she not learnt anything?

0:58:20 > 0:58:23..as our designers take over a 1950s tower block.

0:58:23 > 0:58:27I'm finding creativity level extremely high.

0:58:27 > 0:58:29The roller coaster continues.
