0:00:02 > 0:00:04I am constantly taken aback by the huge variety of property styles

0:00:04 > 0:00:08in Britain, from characterful timber framed cottages

0:00:08 > 0:00:10to grand townhouses.

0:00:10 > 0:00:13But sometimes what's on the inside doesn't live up to

0:00:13 > 0:00:15what's on the outside.

0:00:15 > 0:00:19So we've gathered together the most talented amateur interior designers

0:00:19 > 0:00:20who think they could be the next big thing

0:00:20 > 0:00:22to show us how it's done,

0:00:22 > 0:00:24but it's not as easy as it looks.

0:00:24 > 0:00:25Oh, no, I'm panicking.

0:00:25 > 0:00:27I feel really sick.

0:00:27 > 0:00:3016 came to show us their skills.

0:00:30 > 0:00:32The four best remain.

0:00:32 > 0:00:34Quarterfinals.

0:00:34 > 0:00:35Very, very happy.

0:00:35 > 0:00:37I'm shaking.

0:00:37 > 0:00:38Really chuffed.

0:00:38 > 0:00:40The stakes are high.

0:00:40 > 0:00:43Only three will be going through to the semifinals.

0:00:44 > 0:00:47Judging them, two industry experts,

0:00:47 > 0:00:48Daniel Hopwood...

0:00:48 > 0:00:51This is where the competition gets really exciting.

0:00:51 > 0:00:53..and Sophie Robinson.

0:00:53 > 0:00:55They've got to fight for a place in the semifinal

0:00:55 > 0:00:58and they had better show me that they are hungry for it.

0:00:58 > 0:00:59In these final challenges,

0:00:59 > 0:01:02they are also being judged by giants of the design world.

0:01:02 > 0:01:04Oliver Heath...

0:01:04 > 0:01:06- Oh, my word. - ..Orla Kiely...

0:01:06 > 0:01:08It does look quite rough.

0:01:08 > 0:01:09..and Kelly Hoppen.

0:01:09 > 0:01:11I want perfection.

0:01:11 > 0:01:13But only one can be crowned winner

0:01:13 > 0:01:16of the Great Interior Design Challenge.

0:01:22 > 0:01:25Previously, four knockout heats have left us

0:01:25 > 0:01:28with just four of the best amateur designers.

0:01:28 > 0:01:30Frankie.

0:01:30 > 0:01:31Lucy.

0:01:31 > 0:01:33Sarah.

0:01:33 > 0:01:34Anne.

0:01:34 > 0:01:37This time, the competition is tougher than ever.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40Our four quarterfinalists are faced with transforming

0:01:40 > 0:01:43a little living room each in these coastal cottages

0:01:43 > 0:01:46in the old smugglers' haunt of Beer.

0:01:46 > 0:01:49The designers must battle to impress their home owners...

0:01:49 > 0:01:51I can't take any more.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53..and our judges.

0:01:53 > 0:01:55Don't panic!

0:01:55 > 0:01:57If she doesn't up her game, she's going to be out.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59But there's a surprise in store

0:01:59 > 0:02:02in the shape of a guest judge, Oliver Heath.

0:02:02 > 0:02:04Let's say I'm a little bit speechless.

0:02:04 > 0:02:06God, this is impossible.

0:02:06 > 0:02:08I don't want to see the same old ideas.

0:02:08 > 0:02:12I'm looking for originality, enthusiasm, energy and creativity.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14See this face?

0:02:14 > 0:02:15It's not a face that's happy.

0:02:17 > 0:02:20Only three will go through to the semifinal.

0:02:20 > 0:02:23The designer not going through is...

0:02:33 > 0:02:36The backdrop for this colossal design battle

0:02:36 > 0:02:39is one of Devon's prettiest coastal villages, Beer.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42A stone's throw from the beach,

0:02:42 > 0:02:43gazing out to sea

0:02:43 > 0:02:46is this lovely brick and flint terrace,

0:02:46 > 0:02:48sturdy but picturesque

0:02:48 > 0:02:51against the valleys and the cliffs of the Jurassic Coast.

0:02:52 > 0:02:55Now, our designers must make a big impression

0:02:55 > 0:02:57as they transform a small living room each.

0:03:06 > 0:03:08Right, let's rock and roll.

0:03:08 > 0:03:11The designers have been working on a brief from their home owners

0:03:11 > 0:03:13for the past week.

0:03:13 > 0:03:15I'm really proud to be in the final four.

0:03:15 > 0:03:19I've got the bug. The bug was there but it's sort of grown into a beast.

0:03:20 > 0:03:23They've each got a small team to help them,

0:03:23 > 0:03:25including a builder and a decorator.

0:03:25 > 0:03:27- That's going to be purple.- OK.

0:03:27 > 0:03:30To be in the quarterfinals, that's quite an achievement.

0:03:30 > 0:03:34I try to say I'm not competitive, but I really am.

0:03:34 > 0:03:36They also have a budget of £1,000...

0:03:36 > 0:03:38I can't believe I've made it this far.

0:03:38 > 0:03:42Expectations are high, so I've just got to prove myself.

0:03:42 > 0:03:46..and just three days to complete their transformations.

0:03:46 > 0:03:47- Are we happy?- Yeah, very much so.

0:03:47 > 0:03:50- I'll crack on with this. - Right, let's go.

0:03:51 > 0:03:52I lost three girls,

0:03:52 > 0:03:55but I gained another three girls.

0:03:55 > 0:03:56The last man standing.

0:03:59 > 0:04:03I'm just going to check my finer...finer details.

0:04:03 > 0:04:05Our first quarterfinalist is Anne,

0:04:05 > 0:04:08a children's book illustrator from Sunderland.

0:04:08 > 0:04:11Throughout the competition, Anne has really developed

0:04:11 > 0:04:14her own sense of style, which is really detailed.

0:04:14 > 0:04:18Very, very thoughtful but, look, this is the quarterfinals

0:04:18 > 0:04:21and I really need to see her step out of her comfort zone.

0:04:21 > 0:04:24Before she got started, Anne's room was cramped,

0:04:24 > 0:04:27colourless and a bit dog-eared.

0:04:27 > 0:04:30I think the pressure was on right from the moment that I read the brief.

0:04:31 > 0:04:34It's a brief that could stretch any designer.

0:04:34 > 0:04:37A contemporary and luxurious feel,

0:04:37 > 0:04:39but with decorative animal and romantic details.

0:04:41 > 0:04:42Oh, this is snug.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49The home owners have asked for butterflies and cherubs

0:04:49 > 0:04:52and I know that Anne loves that sort of detail

0:04:52 > 0:04:54and she'll get lost in that.

0:04:54 > 0:04:56This is a request for a modern brief

0:04:56 > 0:04:59and I want to see Anne nail that this time.

0:04:59 > 0:05:03Anne's take on modern involves natural tones and textures,

0:05:03 > 0:05:07including updating the chimney breast with faux-slate wallpaper.

0:05:07 > 0:05:09She's using key pieces of modern-look furniture

0:05:09 > 0:05:12with a heavy dose of animal and cherub motifs

0:05:12 > 0:05:14on the soft furnishings.

0:05:14 > 0:05:16So, here we have the colours.

0:05:17 > 0:05:20She pitched her ideas to clients Jenny, Adrian

0:05:20 > 0:05:23and Max the Alsatian earlier on.

0:05:23 > 0:05:26I have gone rather for grey and purples.

0:05:26 > 0:05:28Now, you said you didn't like green.

0:05:28 > 0:05:33However, when you put purple on this lovely colour,

0:05:33 > 0:05:35which is going to be on your walls,

0:05:35 > 0:05:38together, they're not vibrant. You said you wanted vibrant.

0:05:38 > 0:05:40They start to become vibrant when you do that to it,

0:05:40 > 0:05:44- and so I'm going to put just small touches of that.- Yeah.

0:05:44 > 0:05:45You like your animals

0:05:45 > 0:05:48so I've gone for, like, an animal print, which will be the blind.

0:05:48 > 0:05:53- Oh, lovely.- And, again, quite subtle. It's not too in your face.

0:05:53 > 0:05:56- No, I think that's wonderful. - Yeah, I do, too. Brilliant.

0:05:56 > 0:05:57It's not cutting edge.

0:05:57 > 0:06:00You know, it's not sleek, modern design

0:06:00 > 0:06:03and she's used shades of green and purple in two

0:06:03 > 0:06:05out of her last three projects.

0:06:05 > 0:06:08There are other colours in the rainbow.

0:06:09 > 0:06:12The first colour Anne's getting up is the pale grey,

0:06:12 > 0:06:14though she's worried it's not looking that pale.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19I wonder if they mixed it wrong in the shop.

0:06:19 > 0:06:21That's the colour it's kind of going to.

0:06:21 > 0:06:26- It's on par with your design, isn't it? So don't panic.- OK.

0:06:26 > 0:06:28I do get a bit like that.

0:06:28 > 0:06:29"Don't panic!"

0:06:29 > 0:06:31THEY LAUGH

0:06:35 > 0:06:37Second up, mother of two and textiles teacher,

0:06:37 > 0:06:40Lucy from Colchester.

0:06:40 > 0:06:43Lucy is wildly creative but she's also wildly chaotic because

0:06:43 > 0:06:48she tries to do too much and, as a result, the finish is rather rushed.

0:06:48 > 0:06:52Now we are in the quarterfinals, she really can't get away with that.

0:06:52 > 0:06:55Lucy's living room started out plain and mismatched,

0:06:55 > 0:06:57being a weekend home for its owners.

0:06:57 > 0:07:00Her brief - to create a charming living room

0:07:00 > 0:07:02celebrating the heritage of the cottage.

0:07:04 > 0:07:07Fisherman's cottages can fall into a bit of a cliche and Lucy

0:07:07 > 0:07:09will need to avoid that if she's going to bring

0:07:09 > 0:07:12something that is a little bit more contemporary.

0:07:12 > 0:07:16Real wood, stone, natural fabrics is definitely the way to go in here.

0:07:16 > 0:07:19I like edginess and things of bad taste,

0:07:19 > 0:07:21bits and bobs thrown in together

0:07:21 > 0:07:24and this is quite a tasteful approach, so, it's challenging.

0:07:24 > 0:07:28The judges want the real thing, but Lucy is faking it

0:07:28 > 0:07:31with faux-brick wallpaper and laminate flooring.

0:07:31 > 0:07:32She's going for light blue colours,

0:07:32 > 0:07:35including a hand-painted mural.

0:07:35 > 0:07:38The look I've gone for is charming holiday retreat.

0:07:38 > 0:07:42Before she tackled the room, she needed sign off from client,

0:07:42 > 0:07:44Carmel, and her cousin, Roger.

0:07:44 > 0:07:48- This whole wall here will be brick effect wallpaper...- Right.

0:07:48 > 0:07:52- ..which might sound naff, but in reality, they're really good.- OK.

0:07:52 > 0:07:57I'm going to build you a mantelpiece to sit the stove back into,

0:07:57 > 0:08:02- just so it gives it more character and focal point.- OK.

0:08:02 > 0:08:05One more thing, behind here, I'm going

0:08:05 > 0:08:12to do a feature wall of hand-painted fisherman's fishy, pretty things.

0:08:15 > 0:08:16Erm...

0:08:18 > 0:08:21I was just a bit worried about the wallpaper, really,

0:08:21 > 0:08:23with the hand-painted fish.

0:08:23 > 0:08:26Whether it will come out looking like wallpaper or like someone's

0:08:26 > 0:08:30painted a load of higgledy-piggledy fish.

0:08:30 > 0:08:34I'm a bit disappointed in how obvious a lot of her choices are.

0:08:34 > 0:08:37You know, it is a blue and white scheme with boat motifs

0:08:37 > 0:08:40and fishes and fake finishes.

0:08:40 > 0:08:43With someone who is as creative as Lucy, I'd like to have seen

0:08:43 > 0:08:44- her think outside the box.- Stay!

0:08:46 > 0:08:49All she can think about right now is getting her faux-brick

0:08:49 > 0:08:51wallpaper lined up.

0:08:51 > 0:08:54God knows where the repeat is on this.

0:08:55 > 0:08:58This is going to be really tricky.

0:08:58 > 0:09:00That looks like it, there.

0:09:02 > 0:09:04No, it's not.

0:09:06 > 0:09:10God, this is impossible. Maybe it's upside down.

0:09:18 > 0:09:21Our third designer is ex-textile sales assistant, Frankie,

0:09:21 > 0:09:24originally from Taiwan, now living in Surrey.

0:09:24 > 0:09:28Frankie can be such an exciting designer when he lets go,

0:09:28 > 0:09:31but I've only seen him do that when he's had a wild brief.

0:09:31 > 0:09:34We need to see him channel his creativity

0:09:34 > 0:09:37whatever he's been asked for.

0:09:37 > 0:09:40The room Frankie needs to get creative with started

0:09:40 > 0:09:44out as neat and tidy, but unexciting.

0:09:44 > 0:09:46The room's rather up and together already.

0:09:46 > 0:09:49I mean, it's very coordinated and the home owner has asked

0:09:49 > 0:09:53for another brief that is also quite classic and, I'd say, coordinated.

0:09:53 > 0:09:57Frankie has been asked to give an understated New England scheme.

0:09:57 > 0:10:01We want to see Frankie's creativity, see something original, so,

0:10:01 > 0:10:04can he show us that, and, yet, still answer this

0:10:04 > 0:10:06very conservative brief?

0:10:06 > 0:10:09When I get the brief, it's not what I expected, really.

0:10:09 > 0:10:13I thought it might be something going to be more interesting.

0:10:15 > 0:10:18Frankie's interesting take on New England - faux-wood panel

0:10:18 > 0:10:24wallpaper, his trademark smart soft furnishings and LED light boxes.

0:10:24 > 0:10:26This time with bevel edged mirrors.

0:10:26 > 0:10:30But, first, he had to get his plans past his client, Dean.

0:10:30 > 0:10:33Firstly, shall we talk about the wall colour?

0:10:33 > 0:10:35I'm going to paint it in cornflower white.

0:10:35 > 0:10:39- Above the picture rail, I'm going to paint it duck egg blue.- Right.

0:10:39 > 0:10:42We're not going to paint the entire wall in duck egg blue,

0:10:42 > 0:10:44because everybody could do that.

0:10:44 > 0:10:49It's so easy, so I'm going to blend into white, so when you look

0:10:49 > 0:10:55outside, the sea and the sky, that's the kind of feeling to pick up.

0:10:55 > 0:10:58I live by the beach, so I don't want my house to be like the beach.

0:10:58 > 0:11:00- By the beach, beach. OK.- No.

0:11:00 > 0:11:06How about if we just do one main wall here and then you tell me

0:11:06 > 0:11:09how you feel and if you really, really hate it,

0:11:09 > 0:11:11then we just paint it a stripe.

0:11:11 > 0:11:14- Right, OK.- But I'm sure you will love it.

0:11:16 > 0:11:18- I will let you go for it.- OK.

0:11:18 > 0:11:22It was a sort of an Oriental take on a New England look.

0:11:22 > 0:11:25Oh, is that what it was? I wasn't sure where it was going.

0:11:25 > 0:11:28I did like the way he was doing the ombrage effect with

0:11:28 > 0:11:30the paint at the top.

0:11:30 > 0:11:33It's a contentious issue that, though, isn't it?

0:11:33 > 0:11:34The home owner wasn't convinced.

0:11:34 > 0:11:39My home owner just say, "Go ahead, I like your design, just do it."

0:11:39 > 0:11:43This is my very first time to, you know, hit a stone.

0:11:43 > 0:11:47But it's not too bad. It's not a big rock.

0:11:47 > 0:11:51With work well underway, Frankie's decorator has found something

0:11:51 > 0:11:53that could run the project aground.

0:11:53 > 0:11:55Damp, crumbling walls.

0:11:55 > 0:11:56That is pretty bad, isn't it?

0:11:56 > 0:12:00Ideally, it would probably need to be dug out and replastered.

0:12:01 > 0:12:04Choosing to re-plaster it could be risky as it will

0:12:04 > 0:12:07need at least 24 hours to dry.

0:12:07 > 0:12:11I would say just plaster it and then we will leave that to dry

0:12:11 > 0:12:16and even if we can't finish it, I will explain and take the risk.

0:12:16 > 0:12:17- Cool.- Thank you.

0:12:22 > 0:12:25Hoping her project will be more plain sailing,

0:12:25 > 0:12:28last up is Sarah, a garden designer from Hove.

0:12:28 > 0:12:32Sarah has proven to be an adaptable designer but right from

0:12:32 > 0:12:35the very beginning, sometimes her colour choices

0:12:35 > 0:12:38have been questionable. Now we're in the quarterfinals,

0:12:38 > 0:12:41she cannot run the risk of making that error.

0:12:41 > 0:12:43She's got to get that colour right.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46Before she got cracking, Sarah's room was light and bright

0:12:46 > 0:12:48but overcrowded.

0:12:48 > 0:12:51Her brief - to create a historical nautical look

0:12:51 > 0:12:53with a pastel colour palette.

0:12:53 > 0:12:56The trouble is, if you're designing in a nautical theme,

0:12:56 > 0:12:59the colours tend to be blue and white and they are cold colours.

0:12:59 > 0:13:03She's got to work hard to warm it up a little bit.

0:13:03 > 0:13:05Well, Sarah has gone for blue and white,

0:13:05 > 0:13:08but, typically, she's pushing the boundaries with a very dark,

0:13:08 > 0:13:12very navy blue and bold seashell wallpaper.

0:13:12 > 0:13:14I'm a bit more nervous this time

0:13:14 > 0:13:18because there is a really dark colour going on two of the walls,

0:13:18 > 0:13:20so I'm going to have to really sell that.

0:13:21 > 0:13:25It was her client Sue and Greg that she had to convince.

0:13:25 > 0:13:29This front wall, here, and the wall up the stairs will stay white.

0:13:29 > 0:13:32And then this wall across here and across the back here,

0:13:32 > 0:13:35I'd like to paint this dark blue colour.

0:13:37 > 0:13:40- This is brave for us, isn't it?- Yes.

0:13:40 > 0:13:41It's quite a masculine palette,

0:13:41 > 0:13:44but actually there's going to be lots of softness in here.

0:13:44 > 0:13:49- I've brought in a tiny bit of coral. - That's gorgeous, isn't it?

0:13:49 > 0:13:52The colour isn't the only bold thing in the scheme.

0:13:52 > 0:13:57I'm going to make you a large round pouf which is going to have a lid

0:13:57 > 0:14:00- so you can store loads of stuff in it.- OK.

0:14:00 > 0:14:04- And that's going to be out of this fabric here.- Yeah, that's beautiful.

0:14:04 > 0:14:07- Very classic and smart. - I'm relieved.

0:14:09 > 0:14:13I love the way that Sarah has added that really punchy coral,

0:14:13 > 0:14:18but my concern is she's using bright white, a very dark navy.

0:14:18 > 0:14:21It is going to feel quite stark in that room.

0:14:22 > 0:14:25I was scared about dark colours, but I think the amount of white that is

0:14:25 > 0:14:28going to be put into the room, I think it needs that contrast.

0:14:28 > 0:14:31We'll just have to wait and see on that.

0:14:31 > 0:14:34There's not long to wait. First coat is going up,

0:14:34 > 0:14:37but, if anything, it isn't bold enough for Sarah.

0:14:39 > 0:14:42I hope it comes out a bit darker with the second coat.

0:14:42 > 0:14:45Once you get more depth to it.

0:14:45 > 0:14:49That has got sea written all over it.

0:14:53 > 0:14:57Sarah is taking inspiration from her coastal surrounds,

0:14:57 > 0:15:01but the architect of these little cottages took his lead from history.

0:15:02 > 0:15:05This petite but perfectly formed terrace stands out

0:15:05 > 0:15:08among the higgledy-piggledy houses of the old village centre.

0:15:08 > 0:15:11It was built in the 1870s by a local philanthropist

0:15:11 > 0:15:13and it's in full-on Victorian revivalist mode,

0:15:13 > 0:15:17meaning it's a mashup of all different styles from the past.

0:15:17 > 0:15:21There are those pointy Victorian Gothic arches, rustic flint walls

0:15:21 > 0:15:24and Tudor perpendicular arches all thrown into the mix.

0:15:29 > 0:15:33It's soft furnishings Anne is throwing into the mix.

0:15:33 > 0:15:36She's making quilted elephants...

0:15:36 > 0:15:38It sort of brings it to life a bit.

0:15:38 > 0:15:42Nice and tactile. You want to stroke it.

0:15:42 > 0:15:44..to sew onto scatter cushions.

0:15:44 > 0:15:46This is just a bit whimsy.

0:15:46 > 0:15:48It's like the elephants in the grass.

0:15:50 > 0:15:53Throughout the competition, soft furnishings have become something

0:15:53 > 0:15:57of a signature for Anne, which the judges have admired.

0:15:57 > 0:16:00That is a winning window treatment, as far as I'm concerned.

0:16:00 > 0:16:05But she's struggled to fulfil more modern elements of her briefs.

0:16:05 > 0:16:08- So, what's the contemporary? - The contemporary is now.

0:16:08 > 0:16:10I'm contemporary.

0:16:11 > 0:16:14It's a big, big cushion, this cushion. It's a cute dog.

0:16:15 > 0:16:19We always hope for the designers to evolve,

0:16:19 > 0:16:21to develop their design skills and show us

0:16:21 > 0:16:25something new in their repertoire and I'm not seeing it yet with Anne.

0:16:27 > 0:16:29Can we get the front of this door off?

0:16:29 > 0:16:34In her fishing themed living room, Lucy is on a voyage of discovery.

0:16:34 > 0:16:39It's just a piece of hardboard with the tongue and groove behind it.

0:16:39 > 0:16:41I'll do that, I'll do that, don't worry. I'll do it.

0:16:42 > 0:16:44Lucy is excitable, isn't she?

0:16:46 > 0:16:48She seems quite hands on.

0:16:49 > 0:16:53Lucy has been equally hands on in the first three rounds.

0:16:53 > 0:16:57How about if we move the wardrobe up near the window?

0:16:57 > 0:17:01- No, cos then...- I think we need to get things finished first.

0:17:01 > 0:17:06But in giving her so much to do, her finishes have suffered.

0:17:06 > 0:17:08On that cupboard, it's a bit drippy.

0:17:08 > 0:17:12Although her creativity always impresses.

0:17:12 > 0:17:16Oh, this is super. This room has got great impact, hasn't it?

0:17:16 > 0:17:19- It's very cool.- It's got a real magical feel in here.

0:17:19 > 0:17:22I think I'm going to speak to him, actually.

0:17:22 > 0:17:25Whoo! Look at that.

0:17:25 > 0:17:28Original features are us.

0:17:28 > 0:17:31I love to see Lucy unearthing all these lovely

0:17:31 > 0:17:32architectural treasures.

0:17:32 > 0:17:34She's sanding back the woodwork,

0:17:34 > 0:17:36getting a bit of distressed stuff going in.

0:17:36 > 0:17:38She thinks on her feet and I'm really excited

0:17:38 > 0:17:41about what she's doing now.

0:17:41 > 0:17:44With damp walls slowing down progress in his New England room,

0:17:44 > 0:17:47Frankie is far from excited.

0:17:47 > 0:17:49I do feel a little bit stressed.

0:17:49 > 0:17:51Can I actually finish on time?

0:17:52 > 0:17:54It could be curtains for Frankie,

0:17:54 > 0:17:58so he's trying to get ahead with his... Well, curtains.

0:17:58 > 0:18:02This is called cartridge pleat and what I'm going to do,

0:18:02 > 0:18:08is I literally push some wadding inside to keep these sausage.

0:18:08 > 0:18:11It looks nice and neat.

0:18:11 > 0:18:14Frankie's skill with textiles has got him through three rounds

0:18:14 > 0:18:17as the judges have been impressed with his flair.

0:18:17 > 0:18:20I love those fabrics.

0:18:20 > 0:18:22Although sometimes he's played it too safe.

0:18:22 > 0:18:24I think by just choosing one fabric

0:18:24 > 0:18:28and matching it everywhere shows a real lack of creativity.

0:18:28 > 0:18:32In the last round, he did unleash his wild side.

0:18:32 > 0:18:35- It's really dramatic, isn't it? - But was it a one-off?

0:18:37 > 0:18:40My home owner, he like something quite smart looking.

0:18:40 > 0:18:43So, I'm just going to add this pinstripe

0:18:43 > 0:18:45border around the cushion.

0:18:46 > 0:18:50Frankie's room's been set back a bit, so he has hidden himself

0:18:50 > 0:18:52upstairs and is making cushions, quelle surprise.

0:18:52 > 0:18:54All those cushions are telling a tale.

0:18:54 > 0:18:57They are all highly detailed, all his style.

0:18:57 > 0:18:59That's not New England.

0:18:59 > 0:19:02To me, New England is all about being really fresh and relaxed.

0:19:02 > 0:19:05It's relaxed, isn't it, and these are very formal.

0:19:07 > 0:19:09That is going on so nicely.

0:19:09 > 0:19:13In her nautical room, Sarah's upcycling a £40 car-boot sale

0:19:13 > 0:19:18Victorian chest in caviar black. Even darker than the navy walls.

0:19:18 > 0:19:20I'm so happy with the colours.

0:19:20 > 0:19:23I think the home owner is going to love it.

0:19:23 > 0:19:26Sarah has had total confidence in her bold colour schemes

0:19:26 > 0:19:28right across the competition.

0:19:28 > 0:19:32Even when the judges and her clients have raised questions.

0:19:32 > 0:19:34The putty colour doesn't leap out at me.

0:19:34 > 0:19:39One green was nice, but two greens? Working together? I don't know.

0:19:39 > 0:19:42- Sometimes, her boldness has played off.- They asked for impact.

0:19:42 > 0:19:45- And you have it here.- Yes.- Wow!

0:19:45 > 0:19:47Other times, it hasn't.

0:19:47 > 0:19:52I'm not going to be able to live with the ceilings in this colour.

0:19:52 > 0:19:54Sarah remains undeterred.

0:19:54 > 0:19:57When it dries and it's properly dark, it's going to be amazing.

0:19:59 > 0:20:01- I am shocked by how dark that colour is.- Really?

0:20:01 > 0:20:03Oh, yeah, it's almost black.

0:20:03 > 0:20:06'For a client who doesn't like dark colours on the walls.'

0:20:06 > 0:20:10That coral is going to have to do a lot of work to lift that room up.

0:20:13 > 0:20:17The four designers are all well into their workloads but the judges

0:20:17 > 0:20:19aren't letting up for a second.

0:20:19 > 0:20:23I don't want any surprises. Do you hear me?

0:20:23 > 0:20:25I don't want any more surprises.

0:20:25 > 0:20:29A surprise challenge is exactly what they have and it's the biggest yet.

0:20:29 > 0:20:31Oh, it's huge.

0:20:31 > 0:20:33HE LAUGHS

0:20:33 > 0:20:37I expect no less than a high level of creativity.

0:20:37 > 0:20:39- Oh, it's nice.- It's a trunk.

0:20:39 > 0:20:41That's not what I want to hear though.

0:20:41 > 0:20:44- I want you to get creative on it. - It's horrid. It's horrid.

0:20:44 > 0:20:46- I want you to get creative on it. - Yes.- Upcycle it.- OK.

0:20:46 > 0:20:50- Tomorrow you'll get two hours to transform it.- Oh, my God. Two hours.

0:20:50 > 0:20:51Two hours.

0:20:51 > 0:20:55Dan and I are really going to watch over this one

0:20:55 > 0:20:58- and it will go towards who we choose to put through to the semifinal.- OK.

0:20:58 > 0:21:01So no half measures, lots of creativity and a really high finish,

0:21:01 > 0:21:03- OK?- OK. I'll try.

0:21:08 > 0:21:10The only thing that I want to do with that

0:21:10 > 0:21:14is get inside it and maybe that's the surprise upcycle, that I go...

0:21:15 > 0:21:19I'll love thinking about it all night and not sleeping.

0:21:19 > 0:21:22See this face. It's not a face that's happy.

0:21:22 > 0:21:25That is a rubbish piece of furniture.

0:21:25 > 0:21:28What they don't know yet is that tomorrow they'll be

0:21:28 > 0:21:30paired into two teams,

0:21:30 > 0:21:33a test not just of the creativity

0:21:33 > 0:21:36but of their collaborative skills, too.

0:21:41 > 0:21:45It's nearly the end of day one and the quarterfinalists get

0:21:45 > 0:21:48a first chance to size up their new design rivals.

0:21:48 > 0:21:52- How are you getting along?- I'm pretty excited actually.- Are you?

0:21:52 > 0:21:55- Yeah, really happy. - I have a crumbly wall.- Oh.

0:21:55 > 0:22:00If I mark it one to ten I would say 5.5.

0:22:01 > 0:22:07- I'll be up sewing at about four o'clock.- You won't. Do you do that? - Yeah.

0:22:07 > 0:22:11I always want to be further on than I am at this time.

0:22:11 > 0:22:14What did you all think of the surprise challenge, the box?

0:22:14 > 0:22:16"Here we go again."

0:22:16 > 0:22:17Yeah.

0:22:28 > 0:22:34It's the start of day two and our quarterfinalists are keen to impress but will it be enough

0:22:34 > 0:22:37to carry them through to the penultimate stage of the competition?

0:22:37 > 0:22:42Tomorrow, their final rooms will come under more scrutiny than ever,

0:22:42 > 0:22:46as joining Sophie and Daniel is surprise guest judge Oliver Heath.

0:22:46 > 0:22:49As a designer, it's about having the good ideas.

0:22:49 > 0:22:54It's about delivering those ideas. And I won't accept any excuses.

0:22:54 > 0:22:57Only three will make it to the semifinal.

0:22:57 > 0:23:01I'm excited about the competition. Yeah, bring it on.

0:23:01 > 0:23:05I'm perfectly confident about what I'm doing, so just carry on.

0:23:05 > 0:23:10I would really love to get through to the semifinal and/or the final.

0:23:10 > 0:23:11Of course, it would be amazing.

0:23:11 > 0:23:15To win her place, she's painting a whole heap of furniture blue.

0:23:15 > 0:23:17Might give it two coats.

0:23:17 > 0:23:19And dyeing fabrics blue as well.

0:23:19 > 0:23:24This is a slightly paler blue dye called Denim

0:23:24 > 0:23:27for the cushions on the chair.

0:23:27 > 0:23:30I'd rather it was as even a colour as possible

0:23:30 > 0:23:36but if it is a little bit patchy, it'll add to the seaside charm.

0:23:37 > 0:23:41Lucy might be winging it with her quality control

0:23:41 > 0:23:45but patchy fabric is just what Sarah wants for her curtains and pouf.

0:23:45 > 0:23:49This is all calico that I've died with indigo.

0:23:49 > 0:23:52We've got different patterns for different things.

0:23:52 > 0:23:56This is difficult, working in a tiny space.

0:23:56 > 0:24:00Things don't improve outside, though.

0:24:01 > 0:24:02The wind is the issue now.

0:24:02 > 0:24:06The fact that we are on the road and there's cars driving by.

0:24:06 > 0:24:07HORN TOOTS

0:24:07 > 0:24:10They must think I'm mad.

0:24:10 > 0:24:13Unflappable Sarah is getting into a bit of a flap.

0:24:13 > 0:24:17At what point do you put the camera down and help me out?

0:24:21 > 0:24:25Back inside, things could get worse still as Sarah faces

0:24:25 > 0:24:30a midway visit from her home owners to see the off-brief colour scheme.

0:24:30 > 0:24:33It's the dark colours I'm worried about. It's a very dark room.

0:24:33 > 0:24:36I always paint it white because of it, you know,

0:24:36 > 0:24:38to keep it bright, fresh and clean.

0:24:38 > 0:24:41If they're not happy, Sarah might have to make

0:24:41 > 0:24:43some drastic changes to her scheme.

0:24:47 > 0:24:48You feel OK about the colours?

0:24:50 > 0:24:54- It's good, it's good. Really good. - Absolutely brilliant.

0:24:54 > 0:24:56You've been very clever.

0:24:58 > 0:25:02Feeling less lucky is Frankie in his New England scheme.

0:25:02 > 0:25:04The replastered walls now need relining.

0:25:04 > 0:25:08At the moment, it seems like there's not much going on

0:25:08 > 0:25:11because my decorator, she's working really, really hard.

0:25:11 > 0:25:15We definitely had to hit bottom before we could actually pick up.

0:25:15 > 0:25:19At least outside, his mirrored light boxes are nearly done.

0:25:19 > 0:25:21This has just made my day.

0:25:21 > 0:25:25The mirrors will create a kaleidoscope with padded buttons

0:25:25 > 0:25:29in each corner which Frankie's making himself with a button mould.

0:25:32 > 0:25:37I can't help. I just love attention to detail.

0:25:41 > 0:25:43For once, Anne isn't fiddling with fabrics

0:25:43 > 0:25:47but giving the skirting boards a new lease of life...

0:25:47 > 0:25:49I'm pretty busy. I'm pretty busy.

0:25:49 > 0:25:53..while her decorator applies a second coat of paint for Anne's

0:25:53 > 0:25:54green and purple scheme.

0:25:54 > 0:25:57A colour combination she's used before.

0:25:57 > 0:26:00In the heats, you might just rely on what you know

0:26:00 > 0:26:02but when you're getting to the quarterfinals you should be

0:26:02 > 0:26:06showing what your abilities are and trying new and exciting things

0:26:06 > 0:26:09and I'm just not seeing that with Anne right now.

0:26:11 > 0:26:14Not only must the amateurs deliver first-rate rooms,

0:26:14 > 0:26:17they also have an upcycle project to complete.

0:26:17 > 0:26:22My plan is to make a screen to go in front of a television.

0:26:22 > 0:26:25It's inspired from Japan.

0:26:25 > 0:26:30I've been thinking about turning it into something useful again.

0:26:30 > 0:26:32Either a table lamp or a floor lamp.

0:26:32 > 0:26:37'My first thought is to line the whole shebang with plastic grass'

0:26:37 > 0:26:42'so that the grass pokes through, and then put flowers on it.'

0:26:42 > 0:26:47I know what I'm doing. It's going to be a lampshade. Quite a modern one.

0:26:47 > 0:26:51They think they are being tested on ingenuity but they

0:26:51 > 0:26:53are about to get a major surprise.

0:26:53 > 0:26:58Designers, yesterday we gave you each a storage trunk to upcycle.

0:26:58 > 0:27:02But what we didn't tell you is we are going to be taking two of those

0:27:02 > 0:27:05trunks away because we also want to challenge you

0:27:05 > 0:27:06on your teamwork skills.

0:27:06 > 0:27:09So you're going to be working in pairs.

0:27:09 > 0:27:14Frankie, you're with Anne. Lucy, you're with Sarah.

0:27:14 > 0:27:15You're going to have to negotiate

0:27:15 > 0:27:18with your partners to work out what you're going to do.

0:27:18 > 0:27:21Working in pairs, very interesting.

0:27:21 > 0:27:25You either work out really nicely or you completely hate each other.

0:27:25 > 0:27:27I quite like working in collaboration.

0:27:27 > 0:27:31I think it might be hard in terms of we might both have very

0:27:31 > 0:27:33strong ideas. Hopefully, we can just marry them together.

0:27:33 > 0:27:37You're going to have to get this completed in just two hours.

0:27:37 > 0:27:39So off you go.

0:27:39 > 0:27:42Having each come up with their individual ideas

0:27:42 > 0:27:45they must now negotiate and decide on one design.

0:27:45 > 0:27:49So, I have thought to cut out the panels

0:27:49 > 0:27:53and cut them into strips, and then slot them into each other.

0:27:53 > 0:27:57- Is it still a seat?- No.- No, OK. - It becomes a light shade.- Oh.

0:27:57 > 0:28:02And then it could be spray-painted and then dipped in some paint.

0:28:02 > 0:28:06Well, mine was take it apart completely and make a screen.

0:28:06 > 0:28:09- DANIEL:- 'With Sarah and Lucy we've got a powerhouse of creativity.'

0:28:09 > 0:28:12I know. It's interesting though because you've got Sarah

0:28:12 > 0:28:14who's super organised and methodical.

0:28:14 > 0:28:17Is she going to be able to tame Lucy's chaotic approach?

0:28:17 > 0:28:20- I'm not sure about the idea of a screen.- Right.

0:28:20 > 0:28:23- It's really short for a screen.- OK.

0:28:23 > 0:28:26Sarah's put the kibosh on Lucy's idea

0:28:26 > 0:28:29and instead is pushing her plans for a Japanese light.

0:28:29 > 0:28:34There's not enough time to battle. I've moved on.

0:28:34 > 0:28:36- So we'll cut that one off to that line there.- Yes.

0:28:36 > 0:28:38And then to about here and then...

0:28:38 > 0:28:42I don't see why we can't make it massive and use the whole thing.

0:28:42 > 0:28:45Because I just think it's going to look heavy

0:28:45 > 0:28:47and the Japanese do things so light.

0:28:47 > 0:28:50OK. I think that's really small.

0:28:52 > 0:28:57Frankie and Anne are taking a more Zen approach to design negotiations.

0:28:57 > 0:29:00I'm just thinking building a sort of really tall, oblong shape.

0:29:00 > 0:29:02Oh, yes. Mm-hm. Lovely.

0:29:02 > 0:29:06In between the gap, I could actually weave with a linen fabric.

0:29:06 > 0:29:09Yeah, well, my idea was to put Astroturf underneath it

0:29:09 > 0:29:13- so that the Astroturf comes out through the holes.- Right.

0:29:13 > 0:29:14I like that.

0:29:14 > 0:29:17- SOPHIE:- 'We've got the king and queen of design detail

0:29:17 > 0:29:19'with Frankie and Anne.'

0:29:19 > 0:29:22Yeah, but Anne tends to take the upcycle quite lightly

0:29:22 > 0:29:25and Frankie is really conscientious.

0:29:25 > 0:29:28I'm curious to see how they are going to work together.

0:29:28 > 0:29:31In harmony, it seems, as they've decided to amalgamate

0:29:31 > 0:29:33both of their original ideas.

0:29:35 > 0:29:39Anne's just about to do her part and I'm doing my part.

0:29:39 > 0:29:42So we're kind of like managing our own part

0:29:42 > 0:29:44and then combine in the end.

0:29:46 > 0:29:49With their sections cut and spray-painted,

0:29:49 > 0:29:52Sarah and Lucy must now agree on aesthetics.

0:29:52 > 0:29:54I think we need smaller sections

0:29:54 > 0:29:58now, I would say, or it's going to get too heavy. So, if I were you,

0:29:58 > 0:30:00I'd get one of those cut in half.

0:30:00 > 0:30:03Smaller pieces. Right, let's go and see Steve then.

0:30:06 > 0:30:10I think I've compromised a lot and I'm still being told what to do.

0:30:10 > 0:30:14I have limits and then I break.

0:30:14 > 0:30:17Maybe we could have something coming out here a bit.

0:30:17 > 0:30:20No. Know when to stop.

0:30:21 > 0:30:26- No more, Lucy. No more. Know when to stop.- I can... Please.

0:30:26 > 0:30:28- That was nice.- Know when to stop.

0:30:28 > 0:30:30There's no stopping Frankie

0:30:30 > 0:30:34and Anne who are adding fabric strips and flowers.

0:30:34 > 0:30:36Never will so many flowers have been made by

0:30:36 > 0:30:39so few people in such a short time.

0:30:39 > 0:30:42And they've had a rethink on their final product.

0:30:42 > 0:30:47We changed a bit of our plan so now it's become an umbrella stand.

0:30:47 > 0:30:49With five minutes on the clock,

0:30:49 > 0:30:53both teams are putting their final pieces in place.

0:30:53 > 0:30:57- Down one.- This is like The Krypton Factor.- That's not it.

0:31:02 > 0:31:04- That's it.- That's it.- Yeah.

0:31:04 > 0:31:08- ANNE:- The textile team. - Absolutely. High five.

0:31:09 > 0:31:12Hard, it was hard, bit I did it.

0:31:12 > 0:31:14I am happy with it, actually.

0:31:14 > 0:31:17Taking everything into consideration, I think it's fine.

0:31:17 > 0:31:21Sophie and Daniel will pick the winning design later on.

0:31:22 > 0:31:26Back in her room, Lucy hopes her mural will live up to

0:31:26 > 0:31:29the cottage's fishing heritage.

0:31:29 > 0:31:32I quite like the effect of it. It's a one-off.

0:31:32 > 0:31:35Unbeknownst to Lucy, though, her client wasn't keen.

0:31:36 > 0:31:41- I've started your mural wallpaper. - This was what I was worried about.

0:31:41 > 0:31:46- Oh, was it? What do you think? - Yeah, I actually quite like it.

0:31:46 > 0:31:49The hand-painted effect may have charmed her client

0:31:49 > 0:31:51but there's a problem with the other wall.

0:31:51 > 0:31:56- I'm looking at that wallpaper and it's upside down.- Mm.

0:31:58 > 0:32:02- DANIEL:- Lucy's attention to detail and quality of finish consistently worries me.

0:32:02 > 0:32:05What's she done this time? She's hung the wallpaper upside down.

0:32:05 > 0:32:08If she doesn't up her game, she's going to be out.

0:32:08 > 0:32:12There's nowt I can do about that now so that's a bummer.

0:32:15 > 0:32:19Faux wallpaper is going up easier in Anne's room

0:32:19 > 0:32:23but to answer her modern brief she's looking to the past.

0:32:23 > 0:32:26My enjoyment of the wood effect wallpaper subconsciously

0:32:26 > 0:32:28harks back to in the '70s when I was in my 20s

0:32:28 > 0:32:33when that's what one did with one's walls.

0:32:33 > 0:32:38- You've used a very bold wallpaper again.- I love a bold wallpaper.

0:32:38 > 0:32:41I looked at flint but I thought you've got so much flint outside

0:32:41 > 0:32:44the last place you want to see flint is in your living room.

0:32:44 > 0:32:47So I went down the slate route

0:32:47 > 0:32:50and I thought I'm going to wham-bam that in your face.

0:32:51 > 0:32:54Sarah also likes wallpaper that packs a punch.

0:32:54 > 0:32:56Ooh!

0:32:57 > 0:33:00And she's creating a light from a £70 lobster trap

0:33:00 > 0:33:03she bought from a flea market.

0:33:03 > 0:33:07Oh! That looks amazing.

0:33:07 > 0:33:10But her biggest job is a giant MDF storage pouf.

0:33:10 > 0:33:14I've never upholstered anything this big.

0:33:14 > 0:33:18But I wanted to play with scale in here so it might seem

0:33:18 > 0:33:21kind of enormous but when everything else is in,

0:33:21 > 0:33:22it's totally going to work.

0:33:25 > 0:33:30After his damp wall disaster, work in Frankie's room has leapt forward.

0:33:30 > 0:33:35His LED light boxes are up and the faux-wood panelled wallpaper hung.

0:33:35 > 0:33:40But Frankie's next worry is his controversial ombre effect which his

0:33:40 > 0:33:43sceptical client Dean is on his way to approve or veto.

0:33:45 > 0:33:48I'm going to be very, very honest.

0:33:48 > 0:33:50- I don't like that. - You don't like it.

0:33:50 > 0:33:53- No, I prefer the stripe. - You prefer the stripe.

0:33:53 > 0:33:57- Yeah.- Don't worry.- Sorry, but to me it looks like someone's just gone...

0:33:57 > 0:34:02It's fine. I can't really force my home owner to like everything.

0:34:02 > 0:34:06But as rival Lucy pays him a visit, his whole scheme

0:34:06 > 0:34:08is brought into question.

0:34:08 > 0:34:13- It's got a sort of deco feel. - The concept is New England.- Ah!

0:34:13 > 0:34:18- DANIEL:- I can certainly tell you what's in there is not New England.

0:34:18 > 0:34:20It's a complete mishmash.

0:34:20 > 0:34:24Frankie has a way to go bringing a New England look to this

0:34:24 > 0:34:25pretty cottage.

0:34:26 > 0:34:30But appearances on this coastline hide a dark past.

0:34:30 > 0:34:34This is the most infamous smugglers' port on the Jurassic Coast.

0:34:34 > 0:34:35And these are now ordinary boats.

0:34:35 > 0:34:38These are called luggers and they were used to bring in fine

0:34:38 > 0:34:42French soap, alcohol and tobacco alongside the day's catch.

0:34:42 > 0:34:44Far more lucrative than fishing.

0:34:44 > 0:34:47The true foundation to Beer's prosperity,

0:34:47 > 0:34:50though, was to be found a bit closer to home.

0:34:50 > 0:34:52Beer stone has been quarried around these

0:34:52 > 0:34:54parts for the past 2,000 years.

0:34:54 > 0:34:56It's been used on buildings like the Tower of London

0:34:56 > 0:34:58and St Paul's Cathedral.

0:34:58 > 0:35:00In fact, so much has been extracted from the hills,

0:35:00 > 0:35:04there are 75 acres of tunnels and chambers under the cliffs.

0:35:04 > 0:35:07A perfect hiding spot for the contraband material

0:35:07 > 0:35:09Beer's famous for smuggling.

0:35:16 > 0:35:19There's no hiding place for our designers.

0:35:19 > 0:35:22It's getting late on day two.

0:35:22 > 0:35:24I am feeling pretty shattered.

0:35:24 > 0:35:26Everybody else is worried

0:35:26 > 0:35:29that I'm not going to get done but I think we're fine.

0:35:29 > 0:35:31Still a lot to catch up

0:35:31 > 0:35:35and it's a big worry I might not finish this project.

0:35:35 > 0:35:39There's still the team upcycle challenge to judge, though.

0:35:39 > 0:35:42A win here could help secure a semifinal place.

0:35:42 > 0:35:46First up, Anne and Frankie's umbrella stand.

0:35:46 > 0:35:49- First of all, I wouldn't be keeping my umbrellas in there.- No.

0:35:49 > 0:35:52It's far too tall. It's not very practical.

0:35:52 > 0:35:55It looks all just a little bit disjointed.

0:35:55 > 0:35:57I think the problem we've got here is it's a compromise.

0:35:57 > 0:35:59This was Frankie's idea. This was Anne's idea.

0:35:59 > 0:36:02And instead of getting them to work together they've gone,

0:36:02 > 0:36:05"Well, that's your bit and this is my bit," and they don't actually work.

0:36:05 > 0:36:08Next, Sarah and Lucy's Japanese floor lamp.

0:36:08 > 0:36:13Now this is a fine lesson in less is more, in so much as it's a very

0:36:13 > 0:36:15simple thing and yet it has almost

0:36:15 > 0:36:17like a Mackintosh influence about it.

0:36:17 > 0:36:20Yeah, I'm seeing some design references in there for sure.

0:36:20 > 0:36:24And yet it's not typically symmetrical, is it?

0:36:24 > 0:36:26They've all gone kind of slightly off-piste

0:36:26 > 0:36:28with how they've put it together.

0:36:28 > 0:36:30The judges have chosen a winner.

0:36:30 > 0:36:35I think this is both beautiful and useful, and very, very effective.

0:36:35 > 0:36:39Lucy and Sarah, they win on teamwork.

0:36:39 > 0:36:44And this is a great example of how compromise doesn't always

0:36:44 > 0:36:46produce successful design.

0:36:46 > 0:36:48It's made me a bit more confident.

0:36:48 > 0:36:53Comments were so positive and nice that it was really good to hear.

0:36:53 > 0:36:57While Sarah and Lucy can't rest on their laurels, for Frankie

0:36:57 > 0:36:59and Anne, the pressure is really on.

0:36:59 > 0:37:01I'm just going to try and keep calm,

0:37:01 > 0:37:04and plod away, and eventually you get there.

0:37:04 > 0:37:08To make it to the semifinal is a little bit...

0:37:08 > 0:37:09It's a very big task.

0:37:12 > 0:37:15I'm ready to go and have a nice cup of tea.

0:37:23 > 0:37:25It's the big day and a storm is brewing.

0:37:25 > 0:37:28For the designers, it's their last chance to win

0:37:28 > 0:37:30a place in the semifinal.

0:37:30 > 0:37:32I think the competition is really tough.

0:37:32 > 0:37:36It would be lovely to go through but we'll see.

0:37:36 > 0:37:40I'm really tired but I've only got a couple of jobs to do

0:37:40 > 0:37:42and then we start dressing.

0:37:42 > 0:37:47Naturally, I'd be gutted to go home today but equally I'd feel

0:37:47 > 0:37:51proud that I'd come this far and, yeah, mixed emotions.

0:37:54 > 0:37:56They still don't know it yet but guest judge,

0:37:56 > 0:38:00cutting-edge designer Oliver Heath, is on his way.

0:38:00 > 0:38:02Somebody's going to have to go home today.

0:38:04 > 0:38:06Before he arrives,

0:38:06 > 0:38:08he is taking a first look at the designer's schemes.

0:38:08 > 0:38:10Starting with Anne.

0:38:10 > 0:38:12Oh, my word.

0:38:12 > 0:38:17I mean... I've got to say I'm a little bit speechless.

0:38:17 > 0:38:19There's so much going on here.

0:38:19 > 0:38:23Classic pieces of mid-century furniture, animal prints,

0:38:23 > 0:38:26some butterflies and some cherubs.

0:38:26 > 0:38:29Can you do all this and make it look good?

0:38:29 > 0:38:33Anne is answering the tricky modern and decorative brief

0:38:33 > 0:38:35with a menagerie of animals.

0:38:35 > 0:38:39Arm protectors work well and when we get the blind up they'll match

0:38:39 > 0:38:42the blind so we've got like a link for the pattern all the way

0:38:42 > 0:38:45round the room, which is something I wanted to try and do.

0:38:45 > 0:38:48There's a lot of repeat of what we've seen from her before.

0:38:48 > 0:38:52The same colour scheme, the same sort of furniture

0:38:52 > 0:38:54and the cut-outs of cherubs and butterflies.

0:38:54 > 0:38:57It's all getting a bit too much for me.

0:38:58 > 0:38:59- OLIVER:- Well, Lucy's board,

0:38:59 > 0:39:03hand-painted wallpaper...

0:39:03 > 0:39:04There's a lot going on in this room.

0:39:04 > 0:39:09She's going to have to work quite carefully and be quite astute with the finishing final details.

0:39:12 > 0:39:15One such detail is a wall hanging of bird prints.

0:39:15 > 0:39:19I found the birds that are local to the area.

0:39:19 > 0:39:23We've got shelduck, a lovely puffin...

0:39:23 > 0:39:27Oh, this one's funny. We've got a shag.

0:39:29 > 0:39:32Now, normally with Lucy it's a mad dash to the finish.

0:39:32 > 0:39:33Is it a repeat performance?

0:39:33 > 0:39:35Frankly, it's not chaotic enough in there.

0:39:35 > 0:39:36She needs to pick up the pace

0:39:36 > 0:39:40because it's not pulling together as a scheme enough yet.

0:39:40 > 0:39:42I think I might finish early.

0:39:44 > 0:39:49OK, so we've got Frankie's mood board here. Great drawings, plans.

0:39:49 > 0:39:53The problem is I'm just not seeing the New England style.

0:39:53 > 0:39:56We've got a Belgravia rectangular window mirror.

0:39:56 > 0:39:59We've got handmade fluted plaster corbels which

0:39:59 > 0:40:02I would say is a sort of Regency detail.

0:40:02 > 0:40:04I'm confused.

0:40:04 > 0:40:08Frankie just can't help himself when it comes to elaborate detail.

0:40:08 > 0:40:10Frankie's got the glue gun out.

0:40:10 > 0:40:13That's the moment I've been waiting for,

0:40:13 > 0:40:15to get that kaleidoscope effect.

0:40:15 > 0:40:19I'm actually really happy with the result. And it's quite cute as well.

0:40:19 > 0:40:23Frankie's been given quite a conservative brief.

0:40:23 > 0:40:25The brief might be conservative

0:40:25 > 0:40:27but I've noticed he's hanging lots of bevelled mirrors

0:40:27 > 0:40:30and that room is beginning to sparkle with light.

0:40:32 > 0:40:35I think Sarah's produced a fantastic mood board. I like the dark colours.

0:40:35 > 0:40:38I think it adds impact and character

0:40:38 > 0:40:42and identity, like a captain's cabin on a ship.

0:40:42 > 0:40:45However, in this nautically inspired room, it's not very big,

0:40:45 > 0:40:48there's a danger that the room will become quite small and dark

0:40:48 > 0:40:52because of the use of these heavy, grey colours.

0:40:52 > 0:40:54One area that will be lighter - the floor,

0:40:54 > 0:40:59as she's making a large rug from seven £6.50 reed mats.

0:40:59 > 0:41:03I've never sewn a rug together before so a bit of trial and error.

0:41:04 > 0:41:08My concern is that now we no longer have the sun out

0:41:08 > 0:41:12is that dark room going to look gloomy or cosy?

0:41:16 > 0:41:20With Oliver having scrutinised the designs, one thing remains -

0:41:20 > 0:41:21his arrival.

0:41:21 > 0:41:26- Sarah?- Yeah.- The judges would like to speak to you.

0:41:26 > 0:41:27Have I been naughty?

0:41:27 > 0:41:29Why?

0:41:29 > 0:41:30It's not another challenge?

0:41:30 > 0:41:33I've no idea what the judges will want at this time of the day

0:41:33 > 0:41:36except to make me feel more harassed than I already feel.

0:41:38 > 0:41:42Well, designers, all four of you are fighting for a place in the semifinal, so our

0:41:42 > 0:41:47judges have called upon a little extra help in their final decision.

0:41:47 > 0:41:51Yes, this time it's not just us that you have to impress.

0:41:51 > 0:41:56We've enlisted one of our industry's most forward thinking designers.

0:41:56 > 0:41:58You're going to be judged by Oliver Heath.

0:41:58 > 0:42:00SHE MOUTHS

0:42:04 > 0:42:07I should warn you I'm not going to accept any excuses.

0:42:07 > 0:42:12I want to see your concepts delivered on time and on budget.

0:42:12 > 0:42:15If I'm going to send someone through to the semifinals they've got

0:42:15 > 0:42:17to have the whole package.

0:42:17 > 0:42:21Oh, it was exciting. I'm pleased.

0:42:21 > 0:42:25It's not an upcycle. Much better looking than an upcycle.

0:42:25 > 0:42:27I can't take any more.

0:42:27 > 0:42:30He's going to accept no excuses.

0:42:30 > 0:42:33He said that a lot. So...so, get on.

0:42:37 > 0:42:40With just a few finishing touches to put in place,

0:42:40 > 0:42:42time is almost up for Anne.

0:42:42 > 0:42:44Yeah, that's it. Yes, that's lovely.

0:42:44 > 0:42:47But with the judges' earlier concerns about versatility...

0:42:47 > 0:42:51I think it's fun. Nice little butterfly for Max to sit on.

0:42:51 > 0:42:55..this could be her last chance to prove she's an adaptable designer.

0:42:55 > 0:42:57I'm done.

0:43:00 > 0:43:04I love this point when you can't do any more.

0:43:04 > 0:43:06You've done everything you can do.

0:43:06 > 0:43:10Anne's brief was for a modern, luxurious room with animal motifs

0:43:10 > 0:43:12and a touch of romance.

0:43:13 > 0:43:16Three days ago, it was cream, cramped and very tired.

0:43:19 > 0:43:23Now Anne's given it a purple, grey and green colour scheme.

0:43:24 > 0:43:28She's hidden a dated fireplace with a faux slate facade

0:43:28 > 0:43:29and shelving unit.

0:43:29 > 0:43:33Soft furnishings come complete with a variety of animal prints.

0:43:33 > 0:43:38And Anne's nod to modernity, a metal frame chaise longue.

0:43:38 > 0:43:42I think I've succeeded in working to the brief

0:43:42 > 0:43:44and delivering on the brief.

0:43:44 > 0:43:46Whether the judges think

0:43:46 > 0:43:49I've succeeded in doing that, I don't know.

0:43:49 > 0:43:54Time for Sophie and Daniel, and Oliver, to see the room.

0:43:56 > 0:44:00- DANIEL:- The brief says that they wanted something that was luxurious

0:44:00 > 0:44:04and the answer that Anne's come up with is painting it purple.

0:44:04 > 0:44:08I don't disagree with the purple but if you look at the references in this room of how she's

0:44:08 > 0:44:11interpreted a sense of luxury, it becomes enormously confusing.

0:44:11 > 0:44:15We've got some animal prints, some sort of fluffy material.

0:44:15 > 0:44:16We've got cherubs.

0:44:16 > 0:44:20The home owner said they liked animals, but safari animals?

0:44:20 > 0:44:22The most successful part of this design for me is how

0:44:22 > 0:44:24Anne has created a new focal point in this room.

0:44:24 > 0:44:28And what a great idea to box in a tired and dated fireplace.

0:44:28 > 0:44:30Plus, what I really like is that the television is now

0:44:30 > 0:44:32tucked away more into the corner.

0:44:32 > 0:44:35It's not so much of a presence in the room

0:44:35 > 0:44:37and that gives the room a whole sense of space.

0:44:37 > 0:44:40I think the home owners will be happy with what

0:44:40 > 0:44:42I've done, so I'm OK with that.

0:44:42 > 0:44:44And their opinion will count.

0:44:44 > 0:44:47It's fabulous. Oh...

0:44:47 > 0:44:49SHE LAUGHS

0:44:50 > 0:44:54Oh, it's lovely. Oh, look at my cherubs.

0:44:54 > 0:44:57- You wanted cherubs, you got cherubs. - Yeah, beautiful.

0:44:59 > 0:45:01With her finish line fast approaching...

0:45:01 > 0:45:03OMG...

0:45:03 > 0:45:07..Lucy's seaside scheme is far from ready.

0:45:08 > 0:45:11Oh, the clock.

0:45:11 > 0:45:15After her disaster hanging the wallpaper upside down earlier,

0:45:15 > 0:45:18she must get everything else perfect.

0:45:18 > 0:45:20- They're all right?- Yes.

0:45:22 > 0:45:24Thank you, everybody.

0:45:28 > 0:45:29Thank you.

0:45:32 > 0:45:35Oh, that was tough.

0:45:35 > 0:45:42It started so well, as usual, and then petered out and...manic.

0:45:43 > 0:45:47Lucy's brief was to create a charming holiday retreat.

0:45:47 > 0:45:52Three days ago the room was unwelcoming and a little dated.

0:45:54 > 0:45:57Now Lucy has transformed it with a blue and white colour scheme

0:45:57 > 0:45:59and two feature walls.

0:45:59 > 0:46:02One faux-brick and one a hand-painted fish design.

0:46:03 > 0:46:08She's updated every stick of furniture in varying shades of blue

0:46:08 > 0:46:10and added character with oak-effect laminate flooring

0:46:10 > 0:46:13and unique artwork.

0:46:13 > 0:46:16I'm not sure about charming but it's a lovely holiday retreat.

0:46:22 > 0:46:24- OLIVER:- I've got to say, I'm going to throw this in here,

0:46:24 > 0:46:27- harbour master's yard.- Oh!

0:46:27 > 0:46:30Yes, I think we got a lot of shabby chic going on in the furniture

0:46:30 > 0:46:33and the doors. We've got the brickwork.

0:46:33 > 0:46:36I think that wallpaper may have been hung upside down so it

0:46:36 > 0:46:38- looks rather dusty.- It does. - Looks like dusty brick.

0:46:38 > 0:46:39We've got the fish wallpaper.

0:46:39 > 0:46:42I think it's quite playful, though, isn't it?

0:46:42 > 0:46:45I quite like to see designers mix up patterns rather than have it

0:46:45 > 0:46:48- overly co-ordinated. - I agree. I think sometimes it works.

0:46:48 > 0:46:50And in this case?

0:46:50 > 0:46:51I'm not so sure.

0:46:51 > 0:46:53There's a lot of disparate blues going on and maybe that's it,

0:46:53 > 0:46:56there's just too many that aren't really working together.

0:46:56 > 0:46:59There's turquoises, light blues, dark blues, denims.

0:46:59 > 0:47:02- I think you're being really harsh. - That's what I'm here for.

0:47:02 > 0:47:04Fresh pair of eyes.

0:47:04 > 0:47:05But the room feels so happy.

0:47:05 > 0:47:08There is a sense of delight in the creativity. Absolutely.

0:47:08 > 0:47:10And you get that about her.

0:47:11 > 0:47:16The home owners were keen not to have any kind of kitsch seaside

0:47:16 > 0:47:20paraphernalia. I might have added too much. I don't know.

0:47:22 > 0:47:24It's great. Absolutely great.

0:47:24 > 0:47:28- Do you think she's put the love back into the room?- I think...yeah.

0:47:28 > 0:47:32I think it needed something like this. This is brilliant.

0:47:32 > 0:47:36With his deadline looming, Frankie is putting the finishing touches

0:47:36 > 0:47:37to his New England scheme.

0:47:37 > 0:47:39Dressing up.

0:47:39 > 0:47:43He's had creative differences with his client

0:47:43 > 0:47:46and struggled to nail down a New England style.

0:47:46 > 0:47:48He must now get it right.

0:47:50 > 0:47:52Buy one get three free.

0:47:57 > 0:47:58Finished.

0:48:03 > 0:48:07Oh, I'm feeling exhausted.

0:48:08 > 0:48:10I think that is the very best

0:48:10 > 0:48:14I could actually put out within the brief.

0:48:14 > 0:48:18Frankie's brief was for an understated New England scheme.

0:48:19 > 0:48:23Three days ago, the room was neat and tidy, but unexciting.

0:48:26 > 0:48:27Now it's got personality.

0:48:29 > 0:48:31In his bid to bring a fresh take

0:48:31 > 0:48:33to the New England look Frankie's gone eclectic.

0:48:35 > 0:48:39From faux-wood panelling, to smart soft furnishings.

0:48:39 > 0:48:43And LED light boxes with bevelled mirror centrepieces

0:48:43 > 0:48:45to plaster display corbels.

0:48:45 > 0:48:48How do I feel the judges will see my room?

0:48:48 > 0:48:55I think they possibly would feel like...it's very elegant.

0:48:57 > 0:49:01- This looks beautiful. - OLIVER:- It feels very calm and serene in here.

0:49:01 > 0:49:05- Is it new England? - I've got to say I think the whole fireplace composition totally

0:49:05 > 0:49:07throws this idea of New England.

0:49:07 > 0:49:09It feels much glitzier.

0:49:09 > 0:49:11And the corbels, I mean they are hardly New England.

0:49:11 > 0:49:15They're sort of rather grand and southern belle really.

0:49:15 > 0:49:17It doesn't work in the style.

0:49:17 > 0:49:20I think we're getting New England in this part of the room with

0:49:20 > 0:49:24the kind of beach wood, the white painted furniture, the stripe on the curtains. It's all good.

0:49:24 > 0:49:27It's when you look at this main feature wall here that it's

0:49:27 > 0:49:31let down. I find those box frames just kill off the New England look.

0:49:31 > 0:49:33I like the light boxes. I think they're really good.

0:49:33 > 0:49:35It is his twist, I suppose.

0:49:35 > 0:49:38You've got to allow him a little bit of character.

0:49:38 > 0:49:39It feels really interesting.

0:49:39 > 0:49:42- FRANKIE:- What am I most worried about?

0:49:44 > 0:49:48I guess it's my home owner.

0:49:52 > 0:49:53Ooh...

0:49:55 > 0:49:56Well...

0:49:56 > 0:49:58Now is it New England enough for you?

0:49:58 > 0:50:00It is absolutely fantastic.

0:50:00 > 0:50:03I can't express how happy I am.

0:50:03 > 0:50:06On the level of one to ten, it's probably about 50 the moment.

0:50:06 > 0:50:08So, yeah, the boy's done well.

0:50:10 > 0:50:12Sarah's time is almost up.

0:50:12 > 0:50:14It's got to go there. Please. Yes.

0:50:14 > 0:50:16Far from a race to the finish line,...

0:50:16 > 0:50:20SHE HUMS ..it's more of a cruise.

0:50:20 > 0:50:23But she pushed the brief with her dark colours.

0:50:23 > 0:50:27Can she strike the right balance with her nautical accessories?

0:50:28 > 0:50:30I think that's it, Steve. You've done an amazing job again.

0:50:30 > 0:50:35- No worries.- Thank you.- You're welcome. Good luck.- Yeah.- All right.

0:50:35 > 0:50:36We'll see.

0:50:38 > 0:50:40Lots of stuff going on. There was a part of me

0:50:40 > 0:50:43that was worried about how they were all going to mesh,

0:50:43 > 0:50:46but now it's all come together, I just, I think, I love it.

0:50:47 > 0:50:50Sarah's brief was for a bright yet cosy room

0:50:50 > 0:50:52with historical nautical touches.

0:50:54 > 0:50:57Three days ago, it was light and airy but overcrowded.

0:50:58 > 0:51:02Now it's been completely transformed with a colour scheme

0:51:02 > 0:51:04of dark navy, white, and coral.

0:51:05 > 0:51:09Sarah's introduced an antique chair, a small sofa,

0:51:09 > 0:51:11and made a giant storage pouf.

0:51:11 > 0:51:15And from her lobster-trap lights to buoy curtain tiebacks,

0:51:15 > 0:51:17there are maritime touches aplenty.

0:51:17 > 0:51:21I think I've fulfilled the brief and more.

0:51:21 > 0:51:24I like to push the brief a little bit every time.

0:51:25 > 0:51:27Well, this is really interesting.

0:51:27 > 0:51:29Now we're seeing this very dark colour

0:51:29 > 0:51:31on a very dark and grim day outside.

0:51:31 > 0:51:34- And, I have to say, it feels very snug in here, doesn't it?- It's cosy.

0:51:34 > 0:51:37I felt this room had the potential to feel like a captain's cabin.

0:51:37 > 0:51:40I like that about the location. You can look out to sea.

0:51:40 > 0:51:43It's like being at the back of one of those massive old tall ships.

0:51:43 > 0:51:44It feels very atmospheric in here.

0:51:44 > 0:51:48- You look quite excited by this one. - I think she's done a great job.

0:51:48 > 0:51:51Because it's working with the period of the building

0:51:51 > 0:51:53and the setting it's in. You think it's...

0:51:53 > 0:51:54It feels like it's got context.

0:51:54 > 0:51:59- I really like this reinterpretation of maritime fabric.- Tie-dye.

0:51:59 > 0:52:00Yeah. It is tie-dye,

0:52:00 > 0:52:05but I think it's a nice twist on what you might naturally expect.

0:52:05 > 0:52:07It's not fuddy-duddy, is it?

0:52:07 > 0:52:09Does that giant ottoman work in here?

0:52:09 > 0:52:11- Is it really that practical? - Yeah. It's really useful.

0:52:11 > 0:52:15It's a nice place to sit on, to chat, very sociable.

0:52:15 > 0:52:18I'm not entirely convinced by the layout.

0:52:18 > 0:52:22I feel I really put a lot of my heart and soul into it.

0:52:22 > 0:52:25So, I'd like them to like it.

0:52:25 > 0:52:26Wow!

0:52:27 > 0:52:30- Oh. She's done well, hasn't she? - It's so beautiful!

0:52:30 > 0:52:33- I like the colour. - This is fabulous.

0:52:33 > 0:52:35I'm very pleased indeed.

0:52:35 > 0:52:36- Very pleased.- It's wonderful.

0:52:36 > 0:52:39You can come back next year and do the bedroom.

0:52:42 > 0:52:45Having scrutinised all four rooms, Sophie, Daniel,

0:52:45 > 0:52:49and Oliver must decide which designer to send home.

0:52:50 > 0:52:53So, the quarterfinals, it's getting really tough now.

0:52:53 > 0:52:56Not only that but, here, the challenge - they've got tiny rooms.

0:52:56 > 0:52:58What's so interesting is we've ended up with four

0:52:58 > 0:53:01really different projects, considering the spaces.

0:53:01 > 0:53:05Anne was asked for something very luxurious. Did she deliver it?

0:53:05 > 0:53:07I'm seeing that she lacks a little bit of adaptability.

0:53:07 > 0:53:10I think the thing is with Anne, she's so conscientious,

0:53:10 > 0:53:11she really wants to answer the brief.

0:53:11 > 0:53:13She really values her home owner.

0:53:13 > 0:53:15So we ended up with butterflies, cherubs,

0:53:15 > 0:53:17and safari animals all in the same space.

0:53:17 > 0:53:19For me, the room just became really confused

0:53:19 > 0:53:21and it lost a sense of purpose and direction.

0:53:21 > 0:53:24She just needed to be a much better editor of the brief.

0:53:24 > 0:53:28The home owners adored it. I mean, really loved every inch of it.

0:53:28 > 0:53:30They wrote the brief, and she answered it.

0:53:30 > 0:53:34Lucy was asked to give some kind of charm and life to a weekend retreat.

0:53:34 > 0:53:36- Did you see charm and life in it? - Oh, totally!

0:53:36 > 0:53:39You know, I loved it when I walked in. It put a big smile on my face.

0:53:39 > 0:53:41It, sort of, said holiday.

0:53:41 > 0:53:43It was a real celebration of Beer, of this town,

0:53:43 > 0:53:46what it's about and having weekends by the sea.

0:53:46 > 0:53:48I wasn't that sure about Lucy, actually.

0:53:48 > 0:53:52I think it was too much shabby chic. Too many different colours in there.

0:53:52 > 0:53:53The home owner loved it.

0:53:53 > 0:53:56Full of holiday charm, and cheer, and gaiety.

0:53:56 > 0:53:58Well, I have to agree with him.

0:53:58 > 0:54:00Frankie's client asked for New England style.

0:54:00 > 0:54:02It was quite a conservative brief.

0:54:02 > 0:54:05- Where did you see his creativity? - The light boxes

0:54:05 > 0:54:08and the bevelled glass create this kaleidoscopic light.

0:54:08 > 0:54:09He let himself down a bit

0:54:09 > 0:54:12with a level of confusion on the fireplace itself

0:54:12 > 0:54:17- with these wall sconces.- They were wrong.- Confused I think.- And Oliver?

0:54:17 > 0:54:20Really interesting scheme, a few failings,

0:54:20 > 0:54:21but, essentially, he did a good job.

0:54:21 > 0:54:24Well, the home owner loved the room from top to tail.

0:54:24 > 0:54:26He's done a good job, hasn't he?

0:54:26 > 0:54:30Now, Sarah was asked for historical nautical but not naff nautical.

0:54:30 > 0:54:34- What did you think?- Her scheme was really bold and creative.

0:54:34 > 0:54:35She pushed the boundaries.

0:54:35 > 0:54:38She had a brief and she pushed it a bit further

0:54:38 > 0:54:40and it felt warm and cosy.

0:54:40 > 0:54:43What wasn't working for me, though, was the layout.

0:54:43 > 0:54:47Her ottoman was massive and that's a really tiny room.

0:54:47 > 0:54:51- I think it took up far too much space.- The home owners adored it!

0:54:51 > 0:54:54I think they really felt that she had brought

0:54:54 > 0:54:55a level of creativity to that room.

0:54:55 > 0:54:58Something they'd have never have thought themselves.

0:54:58 > 0:54:59They loved the layout, as well.

0:54:59 > 0:55:01I think she took a gamble with that scheme,

0:55:01 > 0:55:03but it's lovely to hear it paid off.

0:55:03 > 0:55:08- We're down to the last four. Have you made a decision?- No. We haven't.

0:55:08 > 0:55:10I'm really glad Oliver's here this time round, actually,

0:55:10 > 0:55:13to help us come to that important conclusion.

0:55:17 > 0:55:21I would really like the opportunity to show what I can really do.

0:55:22 > 0:55:26Such a buzz. Yeah, I really want to get through.

0:55:26 > 0:55:30What my mum told me, if it's meant to be yours, it will be yours.

0:55:31 > 0:55:36I would be ecstatic if I went through. Well, it's the semifinals.

0:55:36 > 0:55:39I'm so proud of what I've achieved.

0:55:50 > 0:55:53All four of you are very talented designers.

0:55:53 > 0:55:55For me it's been an absolute delight

0:55:55 > 0:55:59to see this outpouring of creativity, energy and enthusiasm.

0:55:59 > 0:56:03I've been blown away by just how diverse your schemes have been.

0:56:04 > 0:56:07But we're at the quarterfinal stage.

0:56:07 > 0:56:10Only three of you can go through.

0:56:10 > 0:56:14And the designer not going through to the semifinals...

0:56:15 > 0:56:16..is...

0:56:23 > 0:56:24..Anne.

0:56:25 > 0:56:29- Oh!- That's all right. - We'll miss you!

0:56:29 > 0:56:30'I'm feeling fine.'

0:56:30 > 0:56:33I am pleased that I've got this far.

0:56:33 > 0:56:35Thank you so much.

0:56:37 > 0:56:38Sadly, Anne's going home,

0:56:38 > 0:56:42despite the fact that she supplied a room that the home owners adored.

0:56:42 > 0:56:46She didn't edit the brief and the result was a little bit jumbled.

0:56:46 > 0:56:49I've definitely done Sunderland proud.

0:56:49 > 0:56:51- Thank you.- Well done.

0:56:51 > 0:56:53Amazing. Really, really brilliant.

0:56:53 > 0:56:56I'm ecstatically proud of myself now

0:56:56 > 0:56:58to have come this far.

0:56:58 > 0:57:03- I think it's fantastic.- Oh, good! - Really fantastic.- I'm so pleased.

0:57:03 > 0:57:07Lucy's scheme worried me. It's, kind of, a chaotic, mad, jumble of ideas.

0:57:07 > 0:57:11Which can come together. I'm not sure it did this time

0:57:11 > 0:57:14but she clearly has moments of real beauty.

0:57:15 > 0:57:18I am very happy. I am very pleased.

0:57:18 > 0:57:20Don't you forget, you got to finish the rest of the house.

0:57:20 > 0:57:21- Enjoy it!- I will!

0:57:21 > 0:57:23Frank is a really exciting designer.

0:57:23 > 0:57:26He doesn't understand what he's dealing with completely

0:57:26 > 0:57:30but he has a creative intuition that's fascinating.

0:57:30 > 0:57:34Totally delighted. Can't wait to do another room.

0:57:34 > 0:57:38- I'm through.- Fantastic!- Well done.

0:57:38 > 0:57:40Sarah could easily go all the way

0:57:40 > 0:57:43but she doesn't always follow the brief

0:57:43 > 0:57:44and that could trip her up.

0:57:49 > 0:57:53Next time, in a medieval terrace, the semifinal.

0:57:53 > 0:57:54Stress.

0:57:54 > 0:57:56Whoo!

0:57:56 > 0:57:59It is definitely going to divide opinion.

0:57:59 > 0:58:03- The three remaining designers fight to impress the judges.- What is that?

0:58:05 > 0:58:07And guest judge Orla Kiely.

0:58:07 > 0:58:10If not done kind of carefully, it might look tacky.

0:58:11 > 0:58:14But only two can go through to the grand final.

0:58:15 > 0:58:18And the designer we're saying goodbye to is...
