0:00:01 > 0:00:03I'm constantly taken aback

0:00:03 > 0:00:05by the huge variety of property styles in Britain,

0:00:05 > 0:00:09from characterful timber-framed cottages to grand townhouses.

0:00:09 > 0:00:12But sometimes what's on the inside doesn't live up to what

0:00:12 > 0:00:14is on the outside.

0:00:14 > 0:00:18So we've gathered together the most talented amateur interior designers

0:00:18 > 0:00:22who think they could be the next big thing, to show us how it's done.

0:00:22 > 0:00:24But it's not as easy as it looks.

0:00:24 > 0:00:27I'm panicking! I feel really sick.

0:00:27 > 0:00:3116 came to show us their skills, three of the best remain.

0:00:31 > 0:00:34I'm ecstatically proud of myself.

0:00:34 > 0:00:36I am very happy, I'm very pleased.

0:00:36 > 0:00:38Can't wait to do another room.

0:00:38 > 0:00:41They'll be tested like never before as they try to win

0:00:41 > 0:00:43a place in the final.

0:00:43 > 0:00:47Judging them, two industry experts, Daniel Hopwood...

0:00:47 > 0:00:50I want to see schemes that take my breath away.

0:00:50 > 0:00:52..and Sophie Robinson.

0:00:52 > 0:00:54In order to go through, there is no room for error.

0:00:54 > 0:00:59In these final challenges, they'll face giants of the design world.

0:00:59 > 0:01:00Orla Kiely...

0:01:00 > 0:01:02It does look quite rough.

0:01:02 > 0:01:03..and Kelly Hoppen.

0:01:03 > 0:01:05I want perfection.

0:01:05 > 0:01:07But only one can be crowned winner

0:01:07 > 0:01:10of the Great Interior Design Challenge.

0:01:16 > 0:01:20Previously, the final four battled it out in a dramatic quarterfinal.

0:01:20 > 0:01:24I mean, it's not cutting-edge. Don't panic!

0:01:24 > 0:01:26And with help from guest judge Oliver Heath...

0:01:26 > 0:01:29It's enormously confusing.

0:01:29 > 0:01:32..the judges sent one home. Now, three remain.

0:01:32 > 0:01:34Oh, that was tough!

0:01:34 > 0:01:37I think the room is very elegant.

0:01:37 > 0:01:40I think I fulfilled the brief and more.

0:01:40 > 0:01:42This is their biggest challenge.

0:01:42 > 0:01:45For the semifinal, we're in somewhere pretty special,

0:01:45 > 0:01:48the longest wholly medieval street in Britain,

0:01:48 > 0:01:52in the beautiful cathedral city of Wells.

0:01:52 > 0:01:54The designers must battle to impress their clients.

0:01:54 > 0:01:57I think she's given herself a big task.

0:01:57 > 0:01:59SHE SCREAMS

0:01:59 > 0:02:01And our judges.

0:02:01 > 0:02:04This isn't on brief. No ideas at the moment at all.

0:02:04 > 0:02:09But there's a surprise in store, in the shape of guest judge Orla Kiely.

0:02:09 > 0:02:12This is the semifinal. I want to be impressed.

0:02:12 > 0:02:14This is so bad!

0:02:14 > 0:02:17Only two will go through to the grand final.

0:02:17 > 0:02:21And the designer we're saying goodbye to is...

0:02:27 > 0:02:31This epic semifinal is taking place in Wells, Somerset,

0:02:31 > 0:02:34beside the magnificent Gothic cathedral on this idyllic

0:02:34 > 0:02:36medieval close.

0:02:36 > 0:02:38Begun in the mid-1300s,

0:02:38 > 0:02:43this cobbled close is the oldest intact residential street in Europe.

0:02:43 > 0:02:48Our semifinalists will be taking on these three medieval front rooms.

0:02:48 > 0:02:50Our designers, though,

0:02:50 > 0:02:52are going to have to be especially sensitive to the heritage

0:02:52 > 0:02:54of the living rooms they'll be working in

0:02:54 > 0:02:57because they are Grade 1 listed, meaning stringent rules

0:02:57 > 0:03:00and regulations over what can and can't be done.

0:03:00 > 0:03:04With the floorboards and plaster walls not to be sanded, drilled

0:03:04 > 0:03:08or wallpapered, they'll be tested like never before as

0:03:08 > 0:03:10they try to win a place in the grand final.

0:03:16 > 0:03:17Shall I start doing doggies?

0:03:18 > 0:03:21It feels pretty amazing to be through to the semifinals.

0:03:21 > 0:03:25I'm, like, absolutely champing at the bit to get on and do it now.

0:03:25 > 0:03:29They've been working on a brief from their clients for the last week.

0:03:29 > 0:03:32This is wood panelling which I'm doing. Okey dokey.

0:03:32 > 0:03:36Lots of excitement but much more nervous than ever before.

0:03:36 > 0:03:39The room is going to look like, basically...

0:03:39 > 0:03:40They have three days

0:03:40 > 0:03:44and a small team, including a builder and a decorator.

0:03:44 > 0:03:46I'm going to make you guys work!

0:03:46 > 0:03:49And the semifinalists have been given their biggest budget yet -

0:03:49 > 0:03:51?1,500.

0:03:51 > 0:03:53If this is my very last chance,

0:03:53 > 0:03:56then I'm just going to give everything I've got.

0:04:02 > 0:04:05First up is ex-textile sales assistant, Frankie,

0:04:05 > 0:04:08from Surrey, originally from Taiwan.

0:04:08 > 0:04:10It'd make a very nice dress, wouldn't it?

0:04:10 > 0:04:15When Frankie unleashes his inner creativity, it is just magic, but

0:04:15 > 0:04:19he needs to be more confident and give us some of that Frankie flair.

0:04:19 > 0:04:23Frankie is taking on a rather busy living room

0:04:23 > 0:04:27that doubles as a place to practise and listen to music.

0:04:27 > 0:04:29It's quite a mishmash in here, isn't it?

0:04:29 > 0:04:32Yeah, it is a Victorian cubbyhole over in the corner.

0:04:32 > 0:04:36A modern radiator. Yet there's a beam going over the top.

0:04:36 > 0:04:39It's evolved, hasn't it, this room? It's evolved, yeah. It has evolved.

0:04:39 > 0:04:42Frankie's brief is to unite the room with a nostalgic

0:04:42 > 0:04:46and cosy grand hotel feel, but with a touch of humour.

0:04:46 > 0:04:48Frankie, in my opinion, can be

0:04:48 > 0:04:51in danger of doing schemes that are rather frumpy, if I'm honest.

0:04:51 > 0:04:54So I think if he can give this scheme an edge,

0:04:54 > 0:04:55it could be really exciting.

0:04:55 > 0:04:59Frankie's take on nostalgic grand hotel

0:04:59 > 0:05:02centres around a complicated Art Nouveau mural in the very

0:05:02 > 0:05:05British tones of red, white and blue.

0:05:05 > 0:05:06My design, I think it's...

0:05:06 > 0:05:09I won't say suicidal, but it's actually quite risky.

0:05:09 > 0:05:13The risky scheme had to be run past client and cathedral organist,

0:05:13 > 0:05:15Johnny, before work began.

0:05:15 > 0:05:19So the room is going to look like... this.

0:05:21 > 0:05:26So I'm going to paint this mural from above the fireplace... Mm.

0:05:26 > 0:05:28In a kind of Mackintosh pattern. Yeah.

0:05:28 > 0:05:32So it's going to cross the ceiling to the other side... Wow!

0:05:32 > 0:05:35..and then coming down next to your piano.

0:05:35 > 0:05:38I'd no idea you were going to do anything to the ceiling.

0:05:38 > 0:05:39I just think that's fascinating.

0:05:39 > 0:05:42It's just because this is Grade 1 listed house

0:05:42 > 0:05:45and we don't allow to have wallpaper. Yeah.

0:05:45 > 0:05:49So I thought, OK, then if we only allowed to paint, let's paint a lot!

0:05:49 > 0:05:55Yeah! And above the picture rail I'm going to put LED lighting. OK.

0:05:55 > 0:06:01And I'm going to add scatter cushion made out of...suit jacket!

0:06:01 > 0:06:03LAUGHTER

0:06:03 > 0:06:06So it's a bit bonkers! Yeah. That's a bit of fun.

0:06:06 > 0:06:08'Well, I certainly wasn't expecting that.'

0:06:08 > 0:06:12When the homeowner asked for sort of European grand hotel and we get...

0:06:12 > 0:06:13Mackintosh! Yeah!

0:06:13 > 0:06:16Scottish! Yes! Severe, austere.

0:06:16 > 0:06:19And on top of that he is adding LED lighting, which is

0:06:19 > 0:06:21not going to add to that room.

0:06:21 > 0:06:23It's going to be a little bit harsh.

0:06:24 > 0:06:28Work is well underway, and as wallpaper fan Frankie is having to

0:06:28 > 0:06:32stick to breathable paints, he must brush up on his painting skills.

0:06:33 > 0:06:36Wow.

0:06:36 > 0:06:40That's how you do the line. I couldn't get the line straight.

0:06:40 > 0:06:42Just like...zzzhhooop!

0:06:42 > 0:06:47That might not bode well for his hand-painted mural.

0:06:47 > 0:06:49Compared with mine...

0:06:49 > 0:06:51my one's pretty bad.

0:06:55 > 0:06:58RIPPING Do you like the pencil?

0:06:58 > 0:07:02Our second designer is textile teacher Lucy, from Colchester.

0:07:02 > 0:07:05Lucy is such an accomplished designer.

0:07:05 > 0:07:08You can't miss her enthusiasm and passion

0:07:08 > 0:07:10and she's brimming with ideas.

0:07:10 > 0:07:14But as a result, sometimes her projects can be a little bit rushed.

0:07:14 > 0:07:19In the semifinals, I need her to create a polished and finished room.

0:07:19 > 0:07:23Before work began, this living room was bland, boring and very brown.

0:07:26 > 0:07:29Pretty beige, isn't it? These sofas are enormous.

0:07:29 > 0:07:33They're overpowering what is actually a very pretty room.

0:07:33 > 0:07:36Lucy's brief is to create an inviting hunting lodge style

0:07:36 > 0:07:40living room for her dog-loving homeowners.

0:07:40 > 0:07:42This brief is lovely.

0:07:42 > 0:07:45It's asking for something that I feel is quite cottagey, very cosy...

0:07:45 > 0:07:49Exactly, and we know that Lucy has got lots of ideas,

0:07:49 > 0:07:53but actually polishing them up into one refined scheme is what

0:07:53 > 0:07:55we're going to be looking out for.

0:07:57 > 0:08:00Really pleased with the brief.

0:08:00 > 0:08:05Not necessarily my normal choice - country lodge, hunting lodge -

0:08:05 > 0:08:10but I've decided to add my own angle to it this time and make it fun.

0:08:10 > 0:08:14Lucy's humorous take on a hunting lodge combines cool blues,

0:08:14 > 0:08:19warm browns, with paint effect wood panelling and comical animal art.

0:08:19 > 0:08:22So, this is the mood board I've created for you.

0:08:22 > 0:08:25But first, Lucy had to get her quirky scheme past clients

0:08:25 > 0:08:27Melanie and David.

0:08:27 > 0:08:31Um, so, the walls are called Celestial Blue.

0:08:31 > 0:08:35I want it to be warm, so I'm adding lots of warm textiles,

0:08:35 > 0:08:40wool tartans, to give it that lodge look. That's lovely, isn't it?

0:08:40 > 0:08:43And one of the biggest things I'm going to be doing myself is

0:08:43 > 0:08:47painting you wood panelling on this wall here. Wow! Oh, wow.

0:08:47 > 0:08:50I'm going to try and achieve this trompe l'oeil painted effect

0:08:50 > 0:08:53with woodgrain, which I've never done before.

0:08:53 > 0:08:56MELANIE LAUGHS But I'm loving the idea of the challenge.

0:08:56 > 0:08:59And that will be these kinds of colours, quite warm browns.

0:08:59 > 0:09:03Lucy also has a plan to hide the '30s fireplace which,

0:09:03 > 0:09:07although not original, is listed. And it's more visual trickery.

0:09:07 > 0:09:11The fireplace is going to be built like a screen to go over your

0:09:11 > 0:09:15fireplace and you'll be able to move it out of the way to use the fire.

0:09:15 > 0:09:16Oh, brilliant.

0:09:16 > 0:09:18And I know you love your dogs

0:09:18 > 0:09:21and I'm going to do you a piece of artwork, contemporary artwork.

0:09:21 > 0:09:23I don't think there's anything I don't like, to be honest.

0:09:23 > 0:09:26No, I love it! Oh, good! It's so much more than I expected.

0:09:26 > 0:09:28Oh, great. It's amazing.

0:09:28 > 0:09:31I love the idea of having a go at trompe l'oeil.

0:09:31 > 0:09:32It's very difficult to do

0:09:32 > 0:09:35because it's about tricking the eye with perspective and light and

0:09:35 > 0:09:39shade, and if you get it slightly wrong it can look a complete mess.

0:09:42 > 0:09:46I'm just measuring where I'm going to start the wood panelling

0:09:46 > 0:09:49on these curvy walls.

0:09:49 > 0:09:54I'm really hoping to get it done today. That's the aim of the game.

0:09:54 > 0:09:58It's going to be a bit... of an experiment.

0:09:58 > 0:10:02An experiment that the homeowners might be slightly regretting.

0:10:02 > 0:10:08I think the biggest risk for us is the painted wall.

0:10:08 > 0:10:12Let's hope she can pull it off so it looks authentic.

0:10:12 > 0:10:14But, yeah, I think she's given herself a big task.

0:10:14 > 0:10:17Apparently, this is a wallpaper brush.

0:10:17 > 0:10:23But I bought it because I wanted that textured...grainy look.

0:10:24 > 0:10:26Yes, I like the risk element.

0:10:26 > 0:10:30Although I wouldn't do a bungee jump. It's funny, that.

0:10:34 > 0:10:37It's not massive bills, but there's quite a few little things.

0:10:37 > 0:10:41Last up is Sarah, a garden designer from Hove.

0:10:41 > 0:10:43Hiya!

0:10:43 > 0:10:48In the quarterfinals, Sarah produced a striking scheme,

0:10:48 > 0:10:52and yet she backed the brief and that colour choice was very risky.

0:10:52 > 0:10:55This time we want to see her get those colours spot-on,

0:10:55 > 0:10:59because if she doesn't she won't be going through to the final.

0:10:59 > 0:11:00Before work began,

0:11:00 > 0:11:04this living room was a clash of medieval meets modern metropolitan.

0:11:06 > 0:11:07This wasn't what I was expecting.

0:11:07 > 0:11:11Well, they've just moved everything from their London flat.

0:11:11 > 0:11:13Have you noticed there's a lot of red?

0:11:13 > 0:11:15Sarah's brief is for a colourful,

0:11:15 > 0:11:19opulent French chateaux style living room with an oriental edge.

0:11:19 > 0:11:21Interesting brief, this one.

0:11:21 > 0:11:25Something French inspired, which is very romantic, very opulent.

0:11:25 > 0:11:28I think quite an unusual choice, considering where we are. Yeah,

0:11:28 > 0:11:31but it runs in danger of being quite a tacky look if you're not careful.

0:11:31 > 0:11:36Having been asked for colour, Sarah's scheme is her boldest yet,

0:11:36 > 0:11:41with tangerine walls, oriental fabrics and black gloss furniture.

0:11:41 > 0:11:43I've really pushed the boat out on this one,

0:11:43 > 0:11:46because if you're ever going to do it, now is the time.

0:11:46 > 0:11:48Right...

0:11:48 > 0:11:50But first, Sarah has the little matter of getting

0:11:50 > 0:11:54the go-ahead from Merryn and her husband, choir singer, Andrew.

0:11:54 > 0:11:58So, your brief was music to my ears.

0:11:58 > 0:12:01This is the main colour I'd like to paint the walls.

0:12:01 > 0:12:04Kind of like a peachy orange, isn't it? Mm.

0:12:04 > 0:12:06It's kind of like going to come up

0:12:06 > 0:12:08and wrap around slightly into the room.

0:12:08 > 0:12:11And then I've got two panels that I'm going to make

0:12:11 > 0:12:14and they will rest against the walls on both sides.

0:12:14 > 0:12:18One of them is going to be covered in wallpaper and painted gold. Wow.

0:12:18 > 0:12:21And the other one, there's this amazing piece of fabric that I found.

0:12:21 > 0:12:24Furniture-wise, I've got you a big French cabinet

0:12:24 > 0:12:27and that's going to be painted black gloss.

0:12:27 > 0:12:29Also I've bought you two new sofas...

0:12:29 > 0:12:31Oh, lovely! ..that are French velvet.

0:12:31 > 0:12:34Because I'm slightly taller than average,

0:12:34 > 0:12:36I find some sofas quite uncomfortable.

0:12:36 > 0:12:38It has to be comfy. It has to be comfy. Yeah.

0:12:38 > 0:12:40There's no point buying new furniture...

0:12:40 > 0:12:41You probably didn't know I was 6'6".

0:12:41 > 0:12:43No, they didn't tell me that.

0:12:43 > 0:12:46On my list of extra measurements, they didn't... LAUGHTER

0:12:46 > 0:12:49So there's going to be orange on the wall, orange skirting,

0:12:49 > 0:12:53bright-pink sofa, black accents around the room.

0:12:53 > 0:12:57I'm feeling exhausted already. It is a really full-on scheme.

0:12:57 > 0:13:00I would have taken something a bit more subtle in the colour palette.

0:13:00 > 0:13:04But Sarah's clients like the dazzling scheme.

0:13:04 > 0:13:06On paper, at least.

0:13:06 > 0:13:08It looked really exciting, what she's done. I love the colour.

0:13:08 > 0:13:13It is bright. It's going to be full of happiness.

0:13:13 > 0:13:16Look at the colour! How does that not make you happy?

0:13:16 > 0:13:18You know, they've asked for colour,

0:13:18 > 0:13:21so I'm going to deliver what they want and more.

0:13:25 > 0:13:29All the designers are busy fighting for a place in the final.

0:13:29 > 0:13:32Do you think the shelving could actually finish by here?

0:13:32 > 0:13:35Their schemes are just the latest addition

0:13:35 > 0:13:37to these 700-year-old houses.

0:13:37 > 0:13:38Picture a medieval home

0:13:38 > 0:13:42and you'd probably conjure up images of a crooked timber-framed house.

0:13:42 > 0:13:45These medieval houses, though, are completely different.

0:13:45 > 0:13:48They're regular, they're uniform, in terraces, and made of stone.

0:13:48 > 0:13:52It's astonishing to think they were begun in 1348 for members

0:13:52 > 0:13:57of the vicar's choral, which sang in the cathedral just over there.

0:13:57 > 0:14:00The terraces nearly didn't get finished at all when the Black Death

0:14:00 > 0:14:04swept through Wells, wiping out much of the workforce.

0:14:04 > 0:14:06The buildings between the houses

0:14:06 > 0:14:11and the cathedral still show what life was like in the vicar's choral.

0:14:11 > 0:14:15In here is the vicar's hall, where the musicians had their meals.

0:14:15 > 0:14:18That chest over there is actually a medieval bread bin.

0:14:18 > 0:14:20There must have been an awful lot of bread.

0:14:20 > 0:14:22And over there, during mealtimes,

0:14:22 > 0:14:26Bible readings would have taken place. And over here...

0:14:28 > 0:14:31..there's a passageway that takes the choristers over the street

0:14:31 > 0:14:34back to the cathedral at the end of the meal,

0:14:34 > 0:14:37so they didn't have to mingle with the hoi polloi.

0:14:44 > 0:14:46From medieval to Mackintosh.

0:14:46 > 0:14:50Frankie's white walls are being prepped for his intricate mural.

0:14:50 > 0:14:53While he has taken on a task that suits him much better.

0:14:53 > 0:14:58Oh! Did somebody put a tissue paper in there?

0:14:58 > 0:15:02Making cushions from second-hand jackets.

0:15:02 > 0:15:06I'm going to stitch this seam to make it nice and neat,

0:15:06 > 0:15:10but I don't want to see the thread. This is called blind stitch.

0:15:10 > 0:15:16So, literally, the thread disappears.

0:15:18 > 0:15:20I think in the winter time...

0:15:20 > 0:15:26you could actually put your pockets...to keep your hand warm.

0:15:26 > 0:15:29I think this has got a very special sense of humour.

0:15:29 > 0:15:33Frankie has impressed throughout the competition with his precise

0:15:33 > 0:15:35use of textiles.

0:15:35 > 0:15:38Fabric, you know, is my best friend.

0:15:38 > 0:15:42It allows me to do some of the small detail like this.

0:15:42 > 0:15:45But he's been in trouble when he's kept things safe.

0:15:45 > 0:15:48It's time for him to stop relying on those fabrics and show us

0:15:48 > 0:15:50his true creativity.

0:15:50 > 0:15:54He has proved he's got an edgy side, though, with amazing results.

0:15:54 > 0:15:57You've got a big smile on your face! Yeah!

0:15:57 > 0:15:59It's really dramatic, isn't it?

0:16:00 > 0:16:02I'm curious.

0:16:02 > 0:16:05Frankie has gone to Mackintosh for inspiration for a 14th century

0:16:05 > 0:16:07house in Wells.

0:16:07 > 0:16:10And I'm wondering why.

0:16:10 > 0:16:14I always say I'm just throwing you a curveball. OK, I accept that.

0:16:14 > 0:16:16I've just been hit by it in the face, actually!

0:16:16 > 0:16:21I thought, you know, we don't have too far to go now.

0:16:21 > 0:16:25Perhaps this will be my very last chance.

0:16:25 > 0:16:28LUCY: Oh, no, I've got some thingies for you! You've got that?

0:16:28 > 0:16:31Yeah, if I can find the box.

0:16:31 > 0:16:33In Lucy's hunting lodge living room,

0:16:33 > 0:16:37the 1930s fireplace is being measured up for its fake face-lift.

0:16:37 > 0:16:40Look at these nice things. Oh, lovely!

0:16:40 > 0:16:42?5 each off t'internet.

0:16:44 > 0:16:47Also beginning to take shape is Lucy's faux wood panelling.

0:16:47 > 0:16:51We've got a base coat of a light brown and now I'm putting

0:16:51 > 0:16:53a darker brown on top,

0:16:53 > 0:16:56then I'm going to make it look like wood panelling.

0:16:56 > 0:17:00Using a plastic rocker that can cost as little as ?5,

0:17:00 > 0:17:03the top layer of darker paint is scraped back...

0:17:03 > 0:17:04Ta-da!

0:17:04 > 0:17:06..to leave woodgrain effect.

0:17:06 > 0:17:09I quite like it. It's going to be all right.

0:17:09 > 0:17:12And it's quite quick, which suits me.

0:17:15 > 0:17:18Lucy has shown her artistic roots throughout the competition,

0:17:18 > 0:17:21impressing with handcrafted schemes.

0:17:21 > 0:17:25What I'm trying to do, I think, is get it really dark

0:17:25 > 0:17:28in the middle and fade out, so it's a bit like a bike wheel planet.

0:17:28 > 0:17:32But sometimes her ambitious ideas have led to her attention to

0:17:32 > 0:17:34detail being questioned.

0:17:34 > 0:17:37The patterns in the panels just looks a bit like she's done

0:17:37 > 0:17:39it with a dry flat brush.

0:17:39 > 0:17:43This time, her paint effects must be perfect.

0:17:43 > 0:17:48Trompe l'oeil means trick of the eye. Mm. You're playing a trick.

0:17:48 > 0:17:51It's a theatrical trick to actually look like you've got real

0:17:51 > 0:17:54wood panelling with shadowing round the edges and everything else.

0:17:54 > 0:17:57I've never done this before. It's a risk.

0:17:57 > 0:18:00I just think it's another skill that I've never used,

0:18:00 > 0:18:05so I just want to try and prove to myself that I can do it.

0:18:05 > 0:18:09It's risky mixing the real with fake, and that's what Lucy is doing.

0:18:09 > 0:18:11Now, she can be sloppy at times,

0:18:11 > 0:18:14and if she's not accurate with the finish, it will look a mess.

0:18:14 > 0:18:18Sometimes you just get on with it and you think you're doing OK

0:18:18 > 0:18:22and then they sort of knock you back a bit ten paces.

0:18:22 > 0:18:25I think it'll be fine if it all comes together, but...

0:18:25 > 0:18:27Um, it is challenging.

0:18:33 > 0:18:36Sarah has also given herself a tough task.

0:18:36 > 0:18:39She's priming several pieces of furniture ready to give them

0:18:39 > 0:18:43a new look that will hopefully tone down her bright-orange walls.

0:18:43 > 0:18:47I want it to be black gloss because if you're going to fill a room

0:18:47 > 0:18:50full of colour and pattern, then black is

0:18:50 > 0:18:53a kind of a way of bringing it down and giving it real class.

0:18:56 > 0:18:59From the very first round, Sarah has been bold with colour.

0:18:59 > 0:19:03What a gorgeous colour. Good job! Like it!

0:19:03 > 0:19:08She's often pushed her clients to be brave, mainly with success.

0:19:08 > 0:19:11You feel OK about the colour? Good. It's good. Really good.

0:19:13 > 0:19:17I like it. I like the putty colour. SARAH LAUGHS

0:19:17 > 0:19:21But taking risks could end her time in the competition.

0:19:21 > 0:19:23Now, your client is 6'6".

0:19:23 > 0:19:25And I know he's concerned about whether those sofas are going

0:19:25 > 0:19:28to be comfortable for his height. Do you think you've got it right?

0:19:28 > 0:19:31I don't think he's going to have any trouble with comfort.

0:19:31 > 0:19:34But you got them online, right? I did buy them online, yeah.

0:19:34 > 0:19:37You didn't get the luxury of trying them out. No, I didn't.

0:19:37 > 0:19:39But have you pulled that off?

0:19:39 > 0:19:42I don't know yet, I still haven't seen them.

0:19:42 > 0:19:45Oh, haven't you?! You're totally blagging it!

0:19:45 > 0:19:48It's not just Sarah's sofas that will be a surprise.

0:19:48 > 0:19:51With a place in the final at stake, the judges have set a sneaky

0:19:51 > 0:19:56challenge to see how far the designers have come since round one.

0:19:56 > 0:20:00Absolutely don't want to think about what they're going to ask me today.

0:20:00 > 0:20:03I'm so not happy.

0:20:03 > 0:20:06It is incredible what you can do when you're under pressure.

0:20:06 > 0:20:08But I don't like it.

0:20:08 > 0:20:11We know that these designers have raw talent, but we want to

0:20:11 > 0:20:14assess how much they've learnt during the competition.

0:20:14 > 0:20:16Give me some good news. OK.

0:20:16 > 0:20:18I've got a challenge for you.

0:20:18 > 0:20:21It doesn't sound very attractive at all.

0:20:21 > 0:20:25So this time, the object they'll be asked to upcycle...

0:20:25 > 0:20:27Do you remember this?

0:20:27 > 0:20:31..is exactly the same as they received in their very first heat.

0:20:31 > 0:20:33Do you recognise this? Yeah!

0:20:33 > 0:20:35For Lucy, it's a wooden crate.

0:20:37 > 0:20:39Here we come again.

0:20:39 > 0:20:41Frankie gets a vintage tennis racket.

0:20:41 > 0:20:43Oh, I don't believe it!

0:20:43 > 0:20:46Do you remember this? Yeah, how could you forget it?

0:20:46 > 0:20:48And Sarah, a wooden barrel.

0:20:48 > 0:20:52This time I want it to be even bigger...

0:20:52 > 0:20:53and better.

0:20:53 > 0:20:55My life within a bucket.

0:20:55 > 0:20:57HE LAUGHS

0:20:57 > 0:21:01It's just a total deja vu.

0:21:01 > 0:21:03It's... This is so bad.

0:21:03 > 0:21:05The items must fit their final schemes

0:21:05 > 0:21:08and prove what they've learned across the competition.

0:21:08 > 0:21:10Bit minging.

0:21:10 > 0:21:14It means I can give it a second chance and try

0:21:14 > 0:21:16and do something better than last time.

0:21:16 > 0:21:19No ideas at the moment at all.

0:21:19 > 0:21:20Blank.

0:21:24 > 0:21:28As day one draws to a close, the designers are one step closer

0:21:28 > 0:21:32to finding out who won't be going through to the final.

0:21:32 > 0:21:34Did you get your upcycle challenge? Yeah.

0:21:34 > 0:21:38Was it the thing in your first round? Yes. You had that too? Yeah.

0:21:38 > 0:21:39I had a tennis racket.

0:21:39 > 0:21:41LAUGHTER

0:21:41 > 0:21:43Brilliant!

0:21:43 > 0:21:47With his walls still wet, Frankie is not all smiles, though.

0:21:47 > 0:21:51I thought I could have time to paint the mural today,

0:21:51 > 0:21:55but unfortunately the paint, you know,

0:21:55 > 0:21:59doesn't get dry quick enough, so I guess that's something I can rush.

0:21:59 > 0:22:03Lucy's wood effect panelling still needs a lot of work.

0:22:03 > 0:22:06It's still looking a bit basic.

0:22:06 > 0:22:10I'm worried that I won't be able to make it as good as it should be.

0:22:10 > 0:22:14While Sarah is primed and ready to go.

0:22:14 > 0:22:17Right, that's me done for the day, I think.

0:22:17 > 0:22:18Big day tomorrow.

0:22:20 > 0:22:21I'm going for a pint!

0:22:26 > 0:22:28ORGAN PLAYS

0:22:37 > 0:22:40It's the start of the second day of competition

0:22:40 > 0:22:42and our designers have been getting creative.

0:22:42 > 0:22:45Suit fabric cushions, panelling paint effects

0:22:45 > 0:22:48and the first signs of orange have all gone in.

0:22:48 > 0:22:49But they can't rest on their laurels

0:22:49 > 0:22:52if they want to get through to the final.

0:22:52 > 0:22:55Helping Sophie and Daniel make their decision is one of the

0:22:55 > 0:23:00country's leading experts on pattern and design, guest judge, Orla Keily.

0:23:00 > 0:23:03I want to see a designer who has talent

0:23:03 > 0:23:06but also has the passion to go further after this competition.

0:23:06 > 0:23:10Only two can go through to the final.

0:23:10 > 0:23:14Oh, God, I hope this colour doesn't go off. It's insane.

0:23:14 > 0:23:16The biggest concerns are getting paint on the walls,

0:23:16 > 0:23:20getting things painted so I can just put that away and forget about it

0:23:20 > 0:23:22and get on.

0:23:22 > 0:23:26Oh, it's rather lush, isn't it? Well done!

0:23:26 > 0:23:28Feeling nervous about the competition

0:23:28 > 0:23:30and what the other designers are doing.

0:23:30 > 0:23:32I really just want to crack on.

0:23:32 > 0:23:35This morning the biggest thing is the mural.

0:23:35 > 0:23:40I'm actually feeling really, really tired. I feel like...

0:23:42 > 0:23:44..not really myself.

0:23:44 > 0:23:50At Sarah's, with her boldest and brightest colour choice to date

0:23:50 > 0:23:53all over the walls, there's no going back.

0:23:53 > 0:23:56I mean, it's pretty insane at the moment.

0:23:56 > 0:23:59It is definitely going to divide opinion.

0:23:59 > 0:24:02Yeah, it's like an orange bomb has gone off in an orange factory.

0:24:02 > 0:24:05Hoping another risky decision will pay off,

0:24:05 > 0:24:10Sarah is finally getting to test out her new sofas...

0:24:10 > 0:24:11Oh...

0:24:11 > 0:24:14..for her 6'6" client.

0:24:17 > 0:24:18Wicked.

0:24:18 > 0:24:21I think he could learn to love these.

0:24:21 > 0:24:25But can the judges learn to love her bright-orange walls?

0:24:26 > 0:24:28That is a strong colour.

0:24:28 > 0:24:31Well, the homeowner says she likes to experiment with colours -

0:24:31 > 0:24:32she's got it.

0:24:32 > 0:24:37But they also asked for something elegant, French, chinoiserie.

0:24:37 > 0:24:39This isn't on brief!

0:24:39 > 0:24:41No, this feels like a cheap holiday villa, doesn't it?

0:24:43 > 0:24:46I think it needs a bit more lightness, actually.

0:24:46 > 0:24:51Lucy is also being bold with paint, with her trompe l'oeil panelling.

0:24:51 > 0:24:54I'm trying to build up layers of different tones.

0:24:54 > 0:24:57She's about to find out if it's a success or not,

0:24:57 > 0:25:00as her homeowners pay a visit.

0:25:00 > 0:25:01Hello. Morning.

0:25:01 > 0:25:03Oh, gosh.

0:25:03 > 0:25:06It looks amazing. Well, it's not finished.

0:25:06 > 0:25:09I'm just adding... That was the first layer.

0:25:09 > 0:25:12And then I'm kind of adding and adding to make it more subtle.

0:25:12 > 0:25:15Is that actually painted along the top?

0:25:15 > 0:25:16It looks like, really looks like wood.

0:25:16 > 0:25:18That's painted, it's all painted.

0:25:20 > 0:25:21I really like it.

0:25:21 > 0:25:23The trompe l'oeil looks really good, actually.

0:25:23 > 0:25:24I'm really pleased with it.

0:25:24 > 0:25:25It's a good job,

0:25:25 > 0:25:29as the fake fireplace is getting the same treatment.

0:25:29 > 0:25:32I'm going to try and paint this brick-look here.

0:25:32 > 0:25:34You see, that's three-dimensional.

0:25:34 > 0:25:36So I'm doing another bit of my trompe l'oeil.

0:25:38 > 0:25:40Being so ambitious though...

0:25:40 > 0:25:42I hate that middle bit.

0:25:42 > 0:25:45I'm wondering if...

0:25:45 > 0:25:47..is starting to take its toll.

0:25:47 > 0:25:53I'm trying to just keep going and going and going and going.

0:25:53 > 0:25:55I really hope Lucy hasn't taken on too much,

0:25:55 > 0:25:57cos she looks absolutely exhausted.

0:25:57 > 0:26:01We have been urging her to edit down her ideas.

0:26:01 > 0:26:04I hope she's left enough fuel in the tank to finish this project

0:26:04 > 0:26:07to the really high standard that we expect.

0:26:09 > 0:26:11Tired.

0:26:11 > 0:26:15The judges are also expecting to see how much each designer

0:26:15 > 0:26:17has learned at this semifinal stage.

0:26:17 > 0:26:19So they've given each of them

0:26:19 > 0:26:23the same object they received in the very first round to repurpose.

0:26:23 > 0:26:27It'd be nice to do as least cuttage as possible.

0:26:27 > 0:26:32Lucy turned her wooden crate into a futuristic television unit in her heat.

0:26:32 > 0:26:33She's given it a modern edge.

0:26:33 > 0:26:37I think it looks naff. Do you? Yeah. Oh, I love it. I think it's really cool.

0:26:37 > 0:26:39This time she's taken the crate to pieces

0:26:39 > 0:26:42and turned it into a drinks tray.

0:26:42 > 0:26:44Funnily enough, I wanted a tray,

0:26:44 > 0:26:49so it's kind of handy when I got the box to upcycle.

0:26:49 > 0:26:52To tie her creation into her hunting lodge theme,

0:26:52 > 0:26:54she adds some rustic fabrics to the wood

0:26:54 > 0:26:57and decorates with woodland animals.

0:26:57 > 0:27:00I'm just sewing on these dear little deers,

0:27:00 > 0:27:04just cos I want to sit down doing silly things.

0:27:04 > 0:27:09I'm really impressed how Lucy has integrated her upcycle project completely within the scheme.

0:27:09 > 0:27:12It's using the right colours and elements,

0:27:12 > 0:27:14and it's actually going to be really useful in there.

0:27:14 > 0:27:18It is, but it's a tray, and I just don't think it's that innovative.

0:27:18 > 0:27:21This upcycle I think is a bit better than the first one I made,

0:27:21 > 0:27:23I'm hoping.

0:27:23 > 0:27:25I've kind of forgotten.

0:27:25 > 0:27:29I used to do this when I was a kid, pretend I'm a musician.

0:27:29 > 0:27:34Frankie turned his vintage tennis racket into a swing-out sidetable.

0:27:34 > 0:27:35What an ingenious idea.

0:27:35 > 0:27:40And being able to tuck it away means the joke is not always on display.

0:27:40 > 0:27:42This time he has other plans.

0:27:42 > 0:27:45Maybe just a table lamp.

0:27:46 > 0:27:49With the tennis string-stretchers turned into a frame...

0:27:49 > 0:27:52Oh, you've done it! There we go, sir.

0:27:52 > 0:27:53Wow.

0:27:53 > 0:27:55That's pretty good.

0:27:55 > 0:27:58Frankie can give it a coat of white paint,

0:27:58 > 0:28:00with a little Mackintosh detail.

0:28:00 > 0:28:05Finally, fabric fan Frankie finishes it off with a piece of blue fire retardant material.

0:28:05 > 0:28:09I like the way that he sort of reinvented the shape of it.

0:28:09 > 0:28:12It's almost something that Mackintosh would have made.

0:28:12 > 0:28:16It just works perfectly. And doing it white too is absolutely correct.

0:28:16 > 0:28:18Hey! It works.

0:28:18 > 0:28:21HE LAUGHS

0:28:21 > 0:28:22I want to start by taking it apart

0:28:22 > 0:28:24because I've got this idea that maybe we'll try

0:28:24 > 0:28:27and make a lampshade, cos I could do with another lampshade.

0:28:27 > 0:28:32In her heat, Sarah transformed her wooden barrel into a book bucket.

0:28:32 > 0:28:35Never thought of having a bucket for books.

0:28:35 > 0:28:38This time she's chosen to completely dismantle it,

0:28:38 > 0:28:41and, just like her rival Frankie, use the wood to make a table light...

0:28:41 > 0:28:43Cool.

0:28:43 > 0:28:45That's great.

0:28:45 > 0:28:48..which she's spraying in black gloss.

0:28:48 > 0:28:52I wanted it to be a kind of Japanese fan.

0:28:52 > 0:28:57She's created an object of real sculptural quality and very elegant.

0:28:57 > 0:29:00I think the transformation is excellent.

0:29:00 > 0:29:03I'll never get a job as a car spray salesman, but...

0:29:04 > 0:29:05..it'll do.

0:29:05 > 0:29:09All the designers have impressed, but the real test for these

0:29:09 > 0:29:13upcycled creations is how well they integrate into their final rooms.

0:29:18 > 0:29:21I just don't know why I'm putting myself through this.

0:29:21 > 0:29:26In Frankie's room, his decorator is busy turning the alcoves red.

0:29:26 > 0:29:29So it's down to Frankie to deliver the Mackintosh mural.

0:29:29 > 0:29:31It is quite intricate,

0:29:31 > 0:29:34but I have to crack on because I don't have the whole day.

0:29:34 > 0:29:36Despite being a perfectionist,

0:29:36 > 0:29:38Frankie has decided to freestyle his design,

0:29:38 > 0:29:41instead of using a ready-cut stencil.

0:29:41 > 0:29:42It's looking all right.

0:29:42 > 0:29:44There's still, you know, imperfections,

0:29:44 > 0:29:48so that we'll touch up later with a white.

0:29:48 > 0:29:51And then make sure the lines are nice and clean.

0:29:54 > 0:29:56Oh, my gosh, I'm so tired.

0:29:56 > 0:29:58And this is just my first one.

0:29:58 > 0:30:00But good design takes time,

0:30:00 > 0:30:03as history proves.

0:30:03 > 0:30:05Old streets always get chopped and changed over the centuries,

0:30:05 > 0:30:08and this 700-year-old one is no exception.

0:30:08 > 0:30:12Those imposing octagonal chimneys were added in the 15th century

0:30:12 > 0:30:16by the same person that carved those crests.

0:30:16 > 0:30:18The Georgians came along and they blocked-up doorways,

0:30:18 > 0:30:22they added porches, they replaced those narrow medieval windows with sashes.

0:30:22 > 0:30:24But there was one house which is very, very close

0:30:24 > 0:30:27to the 14th century original, through here.

0:30:29 > 0:30:32And it's pretty much perfect.

0:30:38 > 0:30:40Tiny bit lower.

0:30:40 > 0:30:41There.

0:30:41 > 0:30:45Perfection is exactly what Sarah is after for her rather tall client.

0:30:46 > 0:30:486'7".

0:30:48 > 0:30:52I think 6'7" is fine, actually. Yeah? Yeah.

0:30:52 > 0:30:54Unless he's wearing heels, he'll clear it.

0:30:56 > 0:30:59The light may not be a risk, but the orange walls are.

0:30:59 > 0:31:03And her clients are about to see the colour up for the first time.

0:31:03 > 0:31:06This is the stage where the homeowner does get nervous,

0:31:06 > 0:31:09if there's ever going to be a stage.

0:31:09 > 0:31:11Hello. Hello.

0:31:11 > 0:31:12It's colourful.

0:31:12 > 0:31:15How are you? SARAH LAUGHS

0:31:15 > 0:31:18It's certainly brightened it up. I said I wanted colour, so... You did!

0:31:18 > 0:31:19And we got colour.

0:31:19 > 0:31:21The colour itself is not so much an issue,

0:31:21 > 0:31:23it's just there was a lot of it and nothing to break it up.

0:31:23 > 0:31:27So let's hold out and see what's next.

0:31:27 > 0:31:30What Sarah is planning on breaking up the orange with -

0:31:30 > 0:31:35lacquered black oriental furniture and two bold freestanding panels.

0:31:35 > 0:31:38Sarah is attaching green, yellow and pink

0:31:38 > 0:31:41bamboo printed fabric to an MDF board. Wow.

0:31:43 > 0:31:46Cos we can't put anything on the walls,

0:31:46 > 0:31:48the panels are going to bring colour and texture

0:31:48 > 0:31:51and really break up that tangerine.

0:31:51 > 0:31:53That is so cool.

0:31:53 > 0:31:55The second panel is embossed wallpaper,

0:31:55 > 0:31:57which is being painted gold.

0:31:57 > 0:31:59I would so have this room at my house.

0:32:00 > 0:32:04I'm going to go home and paint everything tangerine and gold.

0:32:04 > 0:32:06Like a takeaway restaurant.

0:32:10 > 0:32:15Lucy is also toying with the idea of an unconventional wall panel.

0:32:15 > 0:32:19It's going to be stretched onto a canvas...

0:32:21 > 0:32:25And I'm not sure whether it might be a bridge too far.

0:32:25 > 0:32:26But I like it.

0:32:27 > 0:32:30The doggy decor doesn't stop there.

0:32:30 > 0:32:33So I've got some photos of the dog,

0:32:33 > 0:32:36and I did some illustrations of him, some quick water colours,

0:32:36 > 0:32:39and then that's paper and I've collaged him

0:32:39 > 0:32:44onto an old needlepoint tapestry thing,

0:32:44 > 0:32:47and then I've made him a jumper and a jacket for some reason.

0:32:47 > 0:32:49And a hat.

0:32:49 > 0:32:53Lucy's goal is for her menagerie of kitsch animal accessories

0:32:53 > 0:32:57to add a modern and fun twist to her hunting lodge living room.

0:32:59 > 0:33:01And I think that'll be fine.

0:33:05 > 0:33:07Oh, that's right.

0:33:07 > 0:33:09Christmas arrives early.

0:33:09 > 0:33:13So these are the reproduction of the Mackintosh chair.

0:33:13 > 0:33:16You can see how high the back is.

0:33:16 > 0:33:19There's no time to sit down on the job

0:33:19 > 0:33:21with so much of his mural still to do.

0:33:21 > 0:33:25Wow. Still got lots to do.

0:33:25 > 0:33:28That is a lot of work. Yeah.

0:33:28 > 0:33:32It's hard to make it exactly the same mirror to that side. Yeah.

0:33:32 > 0:33:35How you feeling? Stress.

0:33:37 > 0:33:40Murals look like hard work.

0:33:40 > 0:33:41I...

0:33:41 > 0:33:44I feel a little bit of regret about why do I

0:33:44 > 0:33:47put so much work for myself?

0:33:47 > 0:33:48I really don't want to blow it,

0:33:48 > 0:33:51but I'm so scared I might be.

0:33:51 > 0:33:55I just constantly tell myself I have to keep going.

0:33:55 > 0:33:59So this is Frankie going at it with all guns blazing.

0:33:59 > 0:34:01You are out there... Absolutely. It's just like...

0:34:01 > 0:34:04HE IMITATES GUNSHOT

0:34:04 > 0:34:07You're going to blow them away. Absolutely.

0:34:07 > 0:34:10It's not just our designers making their mark in these homes.

0:34:10 > 0:34:15450 years ago they went through another huge change.

0:34:15 > 0:34:18These houses were originally built as one up, one down bachelor pads,

0:34:18 > 0:34:21with an external staircase around the back made of wood connecting the two rooms.

0:34:21 > 0:34:25But the Reformation changed all that.

0:34:25 > 0:34:30All of a sudden, the vicars choral, shock horror, were allowed to marry,

0:34:30 > 0:34:32and 30 of these original bachelor pads

0:34:32 > 0:34:34were converted into family homes.

0:34:35 > 0:34:39This is one of the houses that was enlarged in the 16th century.

0:34:39 > 0:34:41It's much bigger and grander than most,

0:34:41 > 0:34:44and it contains something very special through here.

0:34:46 > 0:34:49In this room there is an impressive 15th century mural -

0:34:49 > 0:34:53a stylised depiction of vegetation.

0:34:53 > 0:34:56Originally it would probably have been multicoloured, but only

0:34:56 > 0:34:59the red remains, the hardest wearing of the medieval dyes.

0:35:01 > 0:35:04Fading dyes are the last thing on Frankie's mind.

0:35:04 > 0:35:06He's still got to get his design on the ceiling,

0:35:06 > 0:35:08and there's a problem.

0:35:09 > 0:35:13That lighting is not actually sitting right in the centre...

0:35:15 > 0:35:17..of the fireplace.

0:35:19 > 0:35:22Frankie had planned to paint a controlled stripe design

0:35:22 > 0:35:26across the ceiling, perfectly framing the light fitting.

0:35:28 > 0:35:33If that is not symmetrical that will look really, really bizarre.

0:35:33 > 0:35:34So I...

0:35:34 > 0:35:36Yeah, I need to change my plan.

0:35:45 > 0:35:48Oh, sorry.

0:35:48 > 0:35:50The end of the day is fast approaching,

0:35:50 > 0:35:54and for Lucy's playful hunting lodge panel, there are more casualties...

0:35:54 > 0:35:57Oh, he's cute though. Look.

0:35:57 > 0:36:00..to get her a step closer to the grand final.

0:36:00 > 0:36:04I would love to do it again, if I could.

0:36:04 > 0:36:05But...

0:36:05 > 0:36:09I just want to be prepared to go home as well.

0:36:09 > 0:36:10You know?

0:36:12 > 0:36:15I hope I've done enough to get through. But you never know.

0:36:17 > 0:36:19It's a pretty out-there room.

0:36:19 > 0:36:22Tomorrow is a very, very big day.

0:36:23 > 0:36:29But I believe if I'm good enough in the judges' eyes then I will be through.

0:36:29 > 0:36:34But if I'm not good enough then I'll be heading home.

0:36:42 > 0:36:46It's the last day of the semifinal, and our three contestants have

0:36:46 > 0:36:49been working round the clock to impress the judges.

0:36:49 > 0:36:52The stakes are high - only two can go through to the final stage.

0:36:55 > 0:36:57I've come this far, you know?

0:36:57 > 0:36:59I've put everything into it, everything.

0:36:59 > 0:37:02It's been amazing, but I want it.

0:37:02 > 0:37:04I'm generally nervous.

0:37:04 > 0:37:07Just try and not think about it too much so I can focus

0:37:07 > 0:37:10and get on with the room.

0:37:10 > 0:37:11I'm not on track at all.

0:37:11 > 0:37:14I'm feeling quite panicky and...

0:37:15 > 0:37:18Yeah, I just have to keep on cracking.

0:37:18 > 0:37:21They still don't know it yet, but guest judge

0:37:21 > 0:37:24contemporary designer Orla Kiely, is on her way.

0:37:25 > 0:37:27I want to see their skill, their creativity,

0:37:27 > 0:37:29but above all I want to see a designer

0:37:29 > 0:37:32who looks at things with absolutely fresh eyes.

0:37:33 > 0:37:35Before she arrives,

0:37:35 > 0:37:39the Queen of Pattern is taking her first look at the designers' schemes,

0:37:39 > 0:37:40starting with Frankie.

0:37:40 > 0:37:43Looking at Frankie's mood board,

0:37:43 > 0:37:45I do like the Macintosh reference,

0:37:45 > 0:37:49but it can't have any messed up edges, it needs to be sharp.

0:37:49 > 0:37:54With so much of his mural to do, Frankie is under pressure.

0:37:54 > 0:37:57I'm very, very... I'm feeling very stressed at the moment.

0:38:03 > 0:38:05I just had to touch that up.

0:38:07 > 0:38:10How's Frankie's grand European hotel looking today?

0:38:10 > 0:38:13Well, it's looking very unfinished,

0:38:13 > 0:38:15considering he's only got a couple of hours left

0:38:15 > 0:38:16and he's still decorating.

0:38:16 > 0:38:18I'm very concerned for him.

0:38:20 > 0:38:22Looking at Lucy's board,

0:38:22 > 0:38:27I'm kind of wondering about the choice of furniture and accessories.

0:38:27 > 0:38:32There's a lot going on. You don't have do have something everywhere.

0:38:32 > 0:38:34The cuckoo clock could go on here...

0:38:34 > 0:38:37But Lucy hopes she'll get the balance right,

0:38:37 > 0:38:40as she brings in all her quirky accessories.

0:38:40 > 0:38:42CUCKOO CLOCK CALLS Yeah!

0:38:45 > 0:38:48That is hilarious. I think it's looking OK.

0:38:48 > 0:38:51It's quite crowded, but I quite like that.

0:38:51 > 0:38:55I maybe need to step back and edit a bit at the end.

0:38:57 > 0:39:00Now, Lucy has always been a bit of a whirling dervish, hasn't she?

0:39:00 > 0:39:02Full of energy. How's she whirling today?

0:39:02 > 0:39:06You know, usually at this point in the process we'd see Lucy

0:39:06 > 0:39:09in a blind panic, but that seems to be a thing of the past.

0:39:09 > 0:39:12She's already dressing her room, and she's bringing in stacks of stuff.

0:39:12 > 0:39:16Now, we know with Lucy she does tend to overstuff a scheme,

0:39:16 > 0:39:19and I'm really hoping she's not going to do that this time.

0:39:21 > 0:39:24I love that Sarah is brave with colour,

0:39:24 > 0:39:27and I think it can be a very difficult thing sometimes to pull off.

0:39:27 > 0:39:30If not done, kind of, carefully it might look tacky.

0:39:31 > 0:39:34To tone down the orange, Sarah is making cushions...

0:39:34 > 0:39:37multicoloured cushions...

0:39:37 > 0:39:39Now that's bling, isn't it?

0:39:39 > 0:39:41..to go on the dusty pink sofas.

0:39:41 > 0:39:44Even I was saying I wasn't panicking yesterday, but there was a moment

0:39:44 > 0:39:48where I was like, "Oh, this is really extreme colour."

0:39:48 > 0:39:50But now everything is coming in,

0:39:50 > 0:39:54so we're just going to soften it and it'll be storming.

0:39:54 > 0:39:56I'm excited.

0:39:56 > 0:39:57Sarah's always been uber-slick.

0:39:57 > 0:40:00So is she pulling off another polished scheme this time?

0:40:00 > 0:40:03Sarah does go for these really bold schemes,

0:40:03 > 0:40:06but somehow, with her lovely styling and use of lots and lots

0:40:06 > 0:40:10of accessories to soften the look, she often brings back the balance.

0:40:10 > 0:40:12It could work, but...

0:40:12 > 0:40:14I've still got fears about it.

0:40:16 > 0:40:19With Orla having scrutinised the designs,

0:40:19 > 0:40:20one thing remains -

0:40:20 > 0:40:22to meet the designers.

0:40:22 > 0:40:24Frankie. Yes?

0:40:24 > 0:40:25The judges would like to see you.

0:40:25 > 0:40:27Right now?

0:40:34 > 0:40:37I've no idea. Maybe another judge. That would be lovely.

0:40:39 > 0:40:42Designers, standing right in front of me

0:40:42 > 0:40:45is the winner of the Great Interior Design Challenge.

0:40:45 > 0:40:48But first, you've got to earn your place in the final.

0:40:48 > 0:40:53The stakes are high and the decision rests with our two judges.

0:40:53 > 0:40:57So to help them, they've called in some serious heavyweight design clout.

0:40:59 > 0:41:03She's been delivering world-class design for over 20 years,

0:41:03 > 0:41:06culminating in her being awarded an OBE.

0:41:06 > 0:41:08Her talent knows no bounds.

0:41:08 > 0:41:10From dressing royalty to giving us

0:41:10 > 0:41:13one of the most iconic prints of our era.

0:41:14 > 0:41:18Designers, this time you're going to be judged by Orla Kiely.

0:41:22 > 0:41:24Oh, wow.

0:41:27 > 0:41:29So nice to be here.

0:41:29 > 0:41:30Very excited.

0:41:30 > 0:41:33And as this is the semifinal,

0:41:33 > 0:41:37from my point of view, looking for really interesting ideas,

0:41:37 > 0:41:39and a beautiful execution.

0:41:39 > 0:41:40So good luck.

0:41:43 > 0:41:48The judges just keep on throwing surprises again and again.

0:41:48 > 0:41:50This is the semifinal,

0:41:50 > 0:41:53and I just can't take it any more.

0:41:53 > 0:41:55I think she'll probably be looking for good colour,

0:41:55 > 0:41:57I know she likes orange.

0:41:57 > 0:42:03I'm extremely nerve-wracked now, because she is such a big name

0:42:03 > 0:42:05and someone I admire so much that

0:42:05 > 0:42:08now I'm just scared stiff.

0:42:08 > 0:42:13Because if she doesn't like it I'm going to really feel quite gutted.

0:42:13 > 0:42:15CLOCK CHIMES

0:42:18 > 0:42:21With time almost up, Lucy must prove the judges' earlier concerns

0:42:21 > 0:42:24about her finish are unfounded.

0:42:24 > 0:42:26Down half an inch.

0:42:26 > 0:42:30She's had ?1,500 and three days.

0:42:30 > 0:42:32Down, down. God, down.

0:42:32 > 0:42:35That's it. Oh, it's fab.

0:42:35 > 0:42:39But when it comes to her finishing kitsch touches, it's hard to stop.

0:42:39 > 0:42:44I'm quite pleased with it. It's crowded but I don't mind that.

0:42:51 > 0:42:54I'm never 100% happy with anything, so it's hard to say.

0:42:54 > 0:42:58But I'm pleased that I've put myself into it,

0:42:58 > 0:43:00and the fun elements that I hope they'll like.

0:43:00 > 0:43:04Lucy's brief was to create a cosy hunting lodge-themed living room.

0:43:05 > 0:43:09Three days ago, the room was very beige and rather bland.

0:43:11 > 0:43:15Now it's cosy and kitsch, with a soft blue and brown scheme.

0:43:15 > 0:43:20The back wall has been hand-painted to create a wood-panelled trompe l'oeil,

0:43:20 > 0:43:24paint effects continue on the fake fireplace,

0:43:24 > 0:43:26which hides the old 1930s mantelpiece.

0:43:28 > 0:43:32And Lucy has added a touch of hunting humour with quirky accessories -

0:43:32 > 0:43:35from her pooch portrait to her stuffed toy wall hanging.

0:43:37 > 0:43:40I actually believe now that I could go through.

0:43:40 > 0:43:41Yeah.

0:43:41 > 0:43:44I want to believe that I could.

0:43:45 > 0:43:48Time for Sophie and Daniel and Orla to see the room.

0:43:54 > 0:43:57As far as the wood-panel effect wall is concerned,

0:43:57 > 0:44:00I like the fact that she's taken the time to do it herself.

0:44:00 > 0:44:01It's a one-off, it's bespoke.

0:44:01 > 0:44:03Yeah, it does. It's turned out well.

0:44:03 > 0:44:06We've also got this fireplace.

0:44:06 > 0:44:10Hidden underneath that is a 1930s tiled fireplace.

0:44:10 > 0:44:13And, again, she's got this trompe l'oeil theme going through.

0:44:13 > 0:44:16Oh, I see. That's really ambitious, but it works.

0:44:16 > 0:44:18She's covered it up. Yeah.

0:44:18 > 0:44:22I do think this room though is running in danger of being overly cluttered.

0:44:22 > 0:44:24And we know what Lucy's like - she can't resist it.

0:44:24 > 0:44:28But I think, funnily enough, in this scheme clutter is OK,

0:44:28 > 0:44:31and I think she has left some kind of spaces that are clear.

0:44:31 > 0:44:33Because I think that's very important -

0:44:33 > 0:44:35to have space to breathe from clutter -

0:44:35 > 0:44:38and I think she's focused it quite well into certain zones.

0:44:38 > 0:44:40I'm desperately looking for that space to have my breath. There.

0:44:40 > 0:44:43It's actually behind you, Daniel.

0:44:43 > 0:44:48The judges also have to assess the success of Lucy's upcycled crate.

0:44:48 > 0:44:51This integrates brilliantly in the room though, doesn't it?

0:44:51 > 0:44:55The fabrics, the motifs, the rustic materials. Beautifully made.

0:44:55 > 0:44:58Yeah, that's really nice. I think that's nice. But what is that?

0:44:58 > 0:45:02It's a crime, isn't it? It's playful. Oh! It is playful.

0:45:02 > 0:45:04Is it playing up the sort of hunting lodge thing?

0:45:04 > 0:45:08You know, usually you'd see a stag's head and things like that.

0:45:08 > 0:45:12So it's kind of like a bit of a joke on that.

0:45:12 > 0:45:14I think I've got the brief right.

0:45:14 > 0:45:19Whether there's small elements that the residents may not like as much,

0:45:19 > 0:45:22I'm not sure. So who knows?

0:45:22 > 0:45:26What all the homeowners think will count towards the judges' decision.

0:45:26 > 0:45:29Come in. Thank you. Goodness me.

0:45:29 > 0:45:31That's amazing.

0:45:31 > 0:45:33I don't know what to look at first.

0:45:33 > 0:45:35Oh, love it. I love it.

0:45:35 > 0:45:38I could almost cry.

0:45:38 > 0:45:41It's your home, isn't it? It's a personal thing.

0:45:41 > 0:45:43That fire is brilliant. How has she done that?

0:45:43 > 0:45:47Yeah, I feel quite emotional, really.

0:45:47 > 0:45:49I've never had a house with a room like this before.

0:45:49 > 0:45:52I've always had functional rooms, and someone has come in here

0:45:52 > 0:45:54and they've put heart and soul into it,

0:45:54 > 0:45:57but they've done it using our heart,

0:45:57 > 0:46:00and then they've put their soul into getting it right for us.

0:46:05 > 0:46:06This is very, very difficult.

0:46:06 > 0:46:09Frankie's time is almost up and the accuracy

0:46:09 > 0:46:12of his mural is paying the price.

0:46:12 > 0:46:15That is just messy and that's not me.

0:46:19 > 0:46:21But it will have to do as he has just moments

0:46:21 > 0:46:23to finish dressing his room.

0:46:23 > 0:46:25I'm literally just running out of energy now

0:46:25 > 0:46:27and I just can't do any more.

0:46:31 > 0:46:32Done.

0:46:34 > 0:46:38The execution, possibly, a little bit let me down.

0:46:38 > 0:46:41But I spent every single second.

0:46:41 > 0:46:45Overall, I did my very best.

0:46:45 > 0:46:49Frankie's brief was for a grand European hotel feel

0:46:49 > 0:46:52with a touch of Cool Britannia.

0:46:52 > 0:46:55Three days ago the room was cosy but cluttered.

0:47:00 > 0:47:04Now, Frankie has given it a Mackintosh makeover.

0:47:04 > 0:47:07Inspired by the Union Jack, the walls have been painted

0:47:07 > 0:47:12bright red, brilliant white, with accents of a blue-grey.

0:47:12 > 0:47:15A hand-painted mural runs across walls and ceiling,

0:47:15 > 0:47:18from fireplace to piano.

0:47:18 > 0:47:21And the scheme is completed with edgy LED lighting along the

0:47:21 > 0:47:25picture rail and cushions made from suits.

0:47:25 > 0:47:28I don't really know what Orla Kiely would think about my room.

0:47:28 > 0:47:32As long as she could pick out one or two good things,

0:47:32 > 0:47:35I will be very happy.

0:47:40 > 0:47:42Well, it's done, which is a relief.

0:47:42 > 0:47:45Yes. I'm pleasantly surprised. I think it looks great.

0:47:45 > 0:47:49I mean, I think the stencil is interesting

0:47:49 > 0:47:51but it does look quite rough.

0:47:51 > 0:47:54You know, clean lines would have been really expected.

0:47:54 > 0:47:56But the stripe round the edge does work quite well.

0:47:56 > 0:48:01It's probably a big, you know, big task to try and do it beautifully.

0:48:01 > 0:48:03One of the things we love about Frankie

0:48:03 > 0:48:06is he's absolutely brilliant with a sewing machine.

0:48:06 > 0:48:07I do like the cushions.

0:48:07 > 0:48:11I like the colours, I like the idea of the suiting with pockets.

0:48:11 > 0:48:12Yeah, that's cute.

0:48:12 > 0:48:15It's quite quirky. I have to say, a bit of a giggle.

0:48:15 > 0:48:16It is, it's funny.

0:48:16 > 0:48:20His cushions may suit his scheme but does his upcycled lamp?

0:48:20 > 0:48:22This is Frankie's upcycle

0:48:22 > 0:48:25and I think he's integrated it into the scheme really, really well.

0:48:25 > 0:48:28It's definitely got that Mackintosh look. It's slightly utilitarian,

0:48:28 > 0:48:30it goes with this very stark interior.

0:48:30 > 0:48:33So he's blended the two very well. Yeah, it's very nice.

0:48:33 > 0:48:36My only reservation is the amount of white.

0:48:36 > 0:48:40I don't quite understand why there is so much white.

0:48:40 > 0:48:42I don't think he needed the LED lights.

0:48:42 > 0:48:45I would have stopped before adding those.

0:48:45 > 0:48:46It's a difficult one, this.

0:48:46 > 0:48:49My impression was good, it's only when you start to...

0:48:49 > 0:48:50Pick it apart.

0:48:50 > 0:48:54..pick at it that you see where it could have been better.

0:48:55 > 0:48:59I hope my homeowner's not going to be too disappointed

0:48:59 > 0:49:04but I guess... Yeah, I just hope he will like it and he will enjoy it.

0:49:04 > 0:49:07My goodness!

0:49:07 > 0:49:10It looks so different. I think the LEDs look fab up here.

0:49:10 > 0:49:13What do you think about the mural that Frankie's painted?

0:49:13 > 0:49:14I really like it.

0:49:14 > 0:49:17I think it really hangs together well.

0:49:19 > 0:49:23With her deadline looming, Sarah is busy dressing her room.

0:49:23 > 0:49:25Watch out, watch out! Oh!

0:49:25 > 0:49:27With both the judges and client overwhelmed by the orange

0:49:27 > 0:49:31earlier on, it's vital her styling unifies the whole scheme.

0:49:31 > 0:49:33I think that'll do.

0:49:33 > 0:49:35That'll do? M-hm.

0:49:36 > 0:49:38Planned it! Well done.

0:49:38 > 0:49:40Awesome.

0:49:41 > 0:49:43This is, like, a one-time opportunity

0:49:43 > 0:49:46to really go for it, take risks,

0:49:46 > 0:49:48have fun and see where it goes.

0:49:48 > 0:49:50There's no point in doing...

0:49:50 > 0:49:53I could paint magnolia walls every day of the week if I wanted to.

0:49:53 > 0:49:56Sarah's brief was to create a colourful French chateau feel,

0:49:56 > 0:49:58with an oriental edge.

0:50:00 > 0:50:05Three days ago the room was neat and tidy but lacked much personality.

0:50:08 > 0:50:11Now it has impact.

0:50:14 > 0:50:17Sarah has used a bright tangerine on the walls

0:50:17 > 0:50:21and layered the floor with both neutral and monochrome rugs.

0:50:21 > 0:50:24Panels painted gold and covered in Chinese fabric

0:50:24 > 0:50:28add interest without damaging the walls.

0:50:28 > 0:50:31And she's added black gloss furniture,

0:50:31 > 0:50:35two antique sofas and plenty of colourful cushions.

0:50:35 > 0:50:39I hope that when the judges see the room they'd walk in and go,

0:50:39 > 0:50:42"Now I see why she's painted it that colour."

0:50:46 > 0:50:48It's still really orange, right?!

0:50:48 > 0:50:51I think it's really cool. I rather like it.

0:50:51 > 0:50:53I think it's daring and it's quite fun.

0:50:53 > 0:50:56I'm not getting the French chateau... Mmm.

0:50:56 > 0:50:59I'm sort of feeling more like I'm in some kind of cocktail lounge.

0:50:59 > 0:51:04As much as I love orange, I love it in that, kind of, retro '70s way

0:51:04 > 0:51:09but somehow that's not what this room is.

0:51:09 > 0:51:12But I think the gold screen against the wall

0:51:12 > 0:51:16is a nice bridge between the black and the orange.

0:51:16 > 0:51:17Yeah, the gold works really nicely,

0:51:17 > 0:51:19especially inside the drum lampshade as well,

0:51:19 > 0:51:22so you get that lovely gold glow coming from the lighting.

0:51:22 > 0:51:25She's also got some nice little pieces that she's collected, too.

0:51:25 > 0:51:28Yes, I mean, she's sourced perfect accessories that just...

0:51:28 > 0:51:30I think they are very cool, actually.

0:51:30 > 0:51:31Yeah, they complete the look. Yeah.

0:51:31 > 0:51:35The judges also need to see how well Sarah's upcycled barrel

0:51:35 > 0:51:37fits with her scheme.

0:51:37 > 0:51:39That was a barrel and look at it now.

0:51:39 > 0:51:43It looks like some art deco chicness hiding there.

0:51:43 > 0:51:46Yeah, I love it and the light it's casting into the alcove

0:51:46 > 0:51:48is really effective.

0:51:48 > 0:51:51Definitely the best upcycle out of all of them.

0:51:54 > 0:51:57Oh, I hope the homeowners love it. They've put their trust in me.

0:51:57 > 0:51:59So, yeah... I think they're...

0:51:59 > 0:52:02I really think they're going to love it.

0:52:02 > 0:52:05Her clients' reaction to the orange will be crucial.

0:52:05 > 0:52:08Oh!

0:52:09 > 0:52:12Wow! Cool.

0:52:12 > 0:52:14It looks amazing! You wanted bright colours.

0:52:14 > 0:52:17Yep! You wanted orange, you got orange.

0:52:17 > 0:52:19Not too orange? Not too orange.

0:52:19 > 0:52:22Actually, I like the way the green offsets the orange. It keeps...

0:52:22 > 0:52:25My eye keeps being drawn to the green and I quite like it.

0:52:25 > 0:52:28Those sofas are great. Oh, you've got to try it.

0:52:28 > 0:52:30I do have to try the sofa, yes. He was worried about...

0:52:30 > 0:52:31This is the one because I'm going

0:52:31 > 0:52:34to watch the television from here, aren't I?

0:52:36 > 0:52:40That'll do, yeah. THEY LAUGH

0:52:40 > 0:52:43That's it, there's no more the designers can do

0:52:43 > 0:52:47but wait to find out which two will be finalists.

0:52:47 > 0:52:50It's a very mixed feeling at the moment

0:52:50 > 0:52:54because it's the semi and I could be the one going home.

0:52:54 > 0:52:59You know, at the moment I don't have a very good feeling about it.

0:52:59 > 0:53:04I've given it my best, so I'm happy with what I've achieved.

0:53:04 > 0:53:07I really would love to go through.

0:53:07 > 0:53:10I mean, particularly as Orla Kiely is one of the judges.

0:53:12 > 0:53:14It's huge!

0:53:14 > 0:53:18I guess because she's so successful...

0:53:23 > 0:53:25We're approaching the final.

0:53:25 > 0:53:29You're demanding a lot of your interior designers now.

0:53:29 > 0:53:31Are they delivering? They have ramped it up.

0:53:31 > 0:53:35We've seen all three of them really push the boat out this time.

0:53:35 > 0:53:37Let's start with Frankie.

0:53:37 > 0:53:39For me, the thing about Frankie's space

0:53:39 > 0:53:41that I had most difficulty with was the starkness of the white.

0:53:41 > 0:53:44I think for a grand hotel concept,

0:53:44 > 0:53:47I feel it was very stark and very sterile.

0:53:47 > 0:53:48I mean, I love Frankie's ambition.

0:53:48 > 0:53:51I think the ambition with the mural was admirable.

0:53:51 > 0:53:52But it did end up looking rather rushed

0:53:52 > 0:53:55and I'm so surprised because Frankie's such a perfectionist.

0:53:55 > 0:53:58We've come to expect that from him. And, oh, it was a bit smudgy!

0:53:58 > 0:54:00The homeowner was very happy.

0:54:00 > 0:54:04He loved the mural, he loved the Mackintosh.

0:54:04 > 0:54:06It was sad he didn't get to finish it.

0:54:06 > 0:54:09What did you think of Lucy's interpretation of a hunting lodge?

0:54:09 > 0:54:12Well, it was certainly a contemporary interpretation.

0:54:12 > 0:54:14She made lots and lots of different things.

0:54:14 > 0:54:16The energy of this girl is unbelievable.

0:54:16 > 0:54:18A step too far for me was the little fluffy toy,

0:54:18 > 0:54:20kind of, wall panel moment.

0:54:20 > 0:54:24I just thought that looked bizarre, especially where she positioned it.

0:54:24 > 0:54:26I suppose if that's the only fault we can find,

0:54:26 > 0:54:29she's done pretty well. The homeowners adored it.

0:54:29 > 0:54:31They said they brought the heart to the brief

0:54:31 > 0:54:33but that Lucy brought the soul.

0:54:33 > 0:54:36Absolutely no surprise in that comment at all.

0:54:36 > 0:54:39Well, let's start in Sarah's room with the orange.

0:54:39 > 0:54:41You couldn't miss it!

0:54:41 > 0:54:43I love designers to be bold with colour, I really do,

0:54:43 > 0:54:45because it's a game-changer.

0:54:45 > 0:54:47It can really affect the mood and the sense of space

0:54:47 > 0:54:49but is she creating the right mood?

0:54:49 > 0:54:52I actually loved the colour, I think it was really cool.

0:54:52 > 0:54:56But the idea of living in that room every day with that bright orange

0:54:56 > 0:54:57might be a little wearing.

0:54:57 > 0:54:59The homeowners loved the orange.

0:54:59 > 0:55:01Oh, what?!

0:55:01 > 0:55:03They asked for bright, they got bright!

0:55:03 > 0:55:06Be careful what you wish for. Yes!

0:55:06 > 0:55:08But some amazing objects she'd acquired.

0:55:08 > 0:55:11She did and she's always very good at styling a room

0:55:11 > 0:55:13and she did it yet again.

0:55:13 > 0:55:18She has a good eye and I think that's very important.

0:55:18 > 0:55:20So you've got to make the big decision.

0:55:20 > 0:55:23It's going to be pretty sad to lose one of them today.

0:55:24 > 0:55:27With Orla's help, though, they've made their decision.

0:55:27 > 0:55:29Well done because it's so hard.

0:55:31 > 0:55:35I think the true test of real creativity is how you work

0:55:35 > 0:55:38under pressure and under constraints.

0:55:38 > 0:55:40And all three of you have had to deal with

0:55:40 > 0:55:42the pressure of being in the semifinal

0:55:42 > 0:55:46and the constraints of working in a Grade I listed building.

0:55:46 > 0:55:48I've been very impressed with you all today because

0:55:48 > 0:55:51it's so difficult working on a brief like this.

0:55:51 > 0:55:55I'd be very, very intrigued to see what you really would do

0:55:55 > 0:55:57in the real world.

0:55:57 > 0:56:01Sadly, though, there's only room for two in the final.

0:56:01 > 0:56:05And the designer we're saying goodbye to today is...

0:56:15 > 0:56:17..Frankie.

0:56:17 > 0:56:19Thank you very much.

0:56:19 > 0:56:22Well done.

0:56:22 > 0:56:26Oh, congratulations. We were so glad to meet you.

0:56:26 > 0:56:28I got third place.

0:56:28 > 0:56:30Oh!

0:56:30 > 0:56:32So what do you think?

0:56:32 > 0:56:35I really like it. I really like it.

0:56:35 > 0:56:38I've loved Frankie throughout this whole competition.

0:56:38 > 0:56:41He's the king of fabrics, the master of detail.

0:56:41 > 0:56:43However, this time the detail really wasn't there,

0:56:43 > 0:56:46which tells me he's not a finalist.

0:56:46 > 0:56:48I'm just going to keep trying

0:56:48 > 0:56:53and hopefully one day I will really be an interior designer.

0:56:53 > 0:56:55It's a dream to me.

0:56:55 > 0:56:57I can't believe what you've done!

0:56:57 > 0:56:59Oh, thanks so much!

0:56:59 > 0:57:02Yes, I'm shocked and surprised but absolutely thrilled.

0:57:02 > 0:57:06Maybe, maybe I could win this, who knows?

0:57:06 > 0:57:11Lucy managed to deliver a great scheme with very happy homeowners.

0:57:11 > 0:57:14I'm not surprised because she's bursting with ideas

0:57:14 > 0:57:17and she's going to make a really great finalist.

0:57:17 > 0:57:21Hello! Hi! It looks amazing! Do you like it?

0:57:21 > 0:57:23Yeah, it's brilliant.

0:57:23 > 0:57:26The finals, yes!

0:57:27 > 0:57:29Bring it on!

0:57:32 > 0:57:34I love Sarah's character with the colour,

0:57:34 > 0:57:36even if it is a little risky.

0:57:36 > 0:57:39Her daring approach to design means she always comes up

0:57:39 > 0:57:40with something original.

0:57:40 > 0:57:42I seriously cannot wait to see what

0:57:42 > 0:57:44she's going come up with in the final.

0:57:48 > 0:57:51Next time, the grand final.

0:57:51 > 0:57:53For Lucy and Sarah... Yeah!

0:57:54 > 0:57:57..their biggest challenge yet.

0:57:57 > 0:57:59This is the biggest for a long, long, long, long time.

0:57:59 > 0:58:01It's huge!

0:58:01 > 0:58:02It couldn't be tougher.

0:58:02 > 0:58:05No, something's going wrong here.

0:58:05 > 0:58:08She won't let us carry on.

0:58:08 > 0:58:09It's got to be puckered.

0:58:09 > 0:58:11It looks a little bit amateurish.

0:58:13 > 0:58:16Helping decide who deserves to be champion...

0:58:16 > 0:58:18It's all falling apart. It's going to look like a mess.

0:58:18 > 0:58:21..iconic interior designer Kelly Hoppen.

0:58:21 > 0:58:23Too small, too contemporary and doesn't fit. Yeah.

0:58:23 > 0:58:26But only one can win.

0:58:26 > 0:58:28The winner is...
