0:00:02 > 0:00:06I'm constantly taken aback by the huge variety of property styles in Britain,
0:00:06 > 0:00:09from characterful timber-framed cottages to grand townhouses.
0:00:09 > 0:00:11But sometimes,
0:00:11 > 0:00:15the insides don't live up to the expectations on the outside.
0:00:15 > 0:00:18So we've gathered together the most talented amateur interior designers
0:00:18 > 0:00:22who think they could be the next big to show us how it's done.
0:00:22 > 0:00:24But it's not as easy as it looks.
0:00:24 > 0:00:27- Wahey!- Crikey.- I'm a bit stressed.
0:00:27 > 0:00:29Across three knockout episodes,
0:00:29 > 0:00:33a group of designers will compete for one place in finals week.
0:00:33 > 0:00:36I'm feeling a bit like...argh!
0:00:36 > 0:00:39- Who built this?- I love it!
0:00:39 > 0:00:43Judging them, two industry experts - Daniel Hopwood...
0:00:43 > 0:00:44Having survived round one,
0:00:44 > 0:00:47I want to see that the designers have listened to our feedback.
0:00:47 > 0:00:49..and Sophie Robinson.
0:00:49 > 0:00:51They are going to HAVE to take it up a notch
0:00:51 > 0:00:53if they're going to stay in this competition.
0:00:53 > 0:00:56There'll be scrutinising presentation skills...
0:00:56 > 0:00:58That's NOT the way to present to somebody.
0:00:58 > 0:00:59..artistic flair...
0:00:59 > 0:01:03- Have you ever seen that done before?- No. It's weird.
0:01:03 > 0:01:05..and how well they deliver their brief.
0:01:05 > 0:01:09- Pretty amazing transformation. - Absolutely beautiful.
0:01:09 > 0:01:13In the finals, the best will face giants of the design world,
0:01:13 > 0:01:15- Oliver Heath...- Oh, my word!
0:01:15 > 0:01:18- Orla Kiely... - It does look quite rough.
0:01:18 > 0:01:20- And Kelly Hoppen. - I want perfection.
0:01:22 > 0:01:26But only one can be crowned winner of the Great Interior Design Challenge.
0:01:33 > 0:01:37Last time, four amateur designers went head-to-head.
0:01:37 > 0:01:38Ta-dah!
0:01:38 > 0:01:41- That's really not good enough.- It's not going to look bodged, is it?
0:01:41 > 0:01:45- The judges sent one home. - I just got it wrong.
0:01:45 > 0:01:47The other three made it through.
0:01:47 > 0:01:50To be honest, I feel really good about the room.
0:01:50 > 0:01:52I couldn't have done any more than I've done.
0:01:52 > 0:01:56It is definitely something that I want to do for the rest of my life.
0:01:56 > 0:01:59Their next challenge is much tougher.
0:01:59 > 0:02:02In this round, our amateurs take on the vast dimensions
0:02:02 > 0:02:04of a sitting-room in Georgian Bath.
0:02:04 > 0:02:07What I'd like to do is go with everything the same colour.
0:02:07 > 0:02:09The clients are more exacting...
0:02:09 > 0:02:13- I'm wondering whether you've planned any storage boxes.- Sorry.
0:02:13 > 0:02:14Fair enough.
0:02:14 > 0:02:16..and the judges more demanding...
0:02:16 > 0:02:21The orange that she's promised better hit me in the face.
0:02:21 > 0:02:24..as the three designers fight for a place in the next round.
0:02:24 > 0:02:26Then suddenly - bang!
0:02:26 > 0:02:27Are you joking?
0:02:27 > 0:02:28One more must go.
0:02:28 > 0:02:32The designer going home this time is...
0:02:41 > 0:02:44The design battle's about to begin and is taking place
0:02:44 > 0:02:49in Bath, a city that's inspired architects for hundreds of years.
0:02:49 > 0:02:51Bath was first settled by the Romans
0:02:51 > 0:02:55when they discovered its mineral springs and ever since,
0:02:55 > 0:02:59increasing numbers of visitors have come to sample its miraculous waters.
0:02:59 > 0:03:02But it was the Georgians that really built it into a fashionable resort.
0:03:02 > 0:03:05Terraces like these ones were built to accommodate seasonal tourists
0:03:05 > 0:03:09who came to flirt, gamble and dance.
0:03:12 > 0:03:15Now our amateur designers have the serious business of updating
0:03:15 > 0:03:18a sitting room each in these elegant homes.
0:03:25 > 0:03:27Time to get started.
0:03:28 > 0:03:29Are you ready for this?
0:03:29 > 0:03:31- This is a rough model, er...- Yeah.
0:03:31 > 0:03:35- The storage bits either side of the telly, is that right? - Yeah. Next to the telly.
0:03:35 > 0:03:38The designers have been working on a brief from their homeowners
0:03:38 > 0:03:40for the past week.
0:03:40 > 0:03:42Going into round two, I'm so excited.
0:03:42 > 0:03:45I feel like I've come a long way.
0:03:45 > 0:03:47They've each got a small team to help them,
0:03:47 > 0:03:49including a decorator and a builder.
0:03:49 > 0:03:51I want to saw this in half.
0:03:51 > 0:03:53HE CHUCKLES
0:03:53 > 0:03:56It's great to be back. Exciting.
0:03:56 > 0:03:58They also have a budget of £1,000
0:03:58 > 0:04:01and three days to make their transformations.
0:04:01 > 0:04:04Just prepping the floor ready to start sending it.
0:04:04 > 0:04:06I've got plenty more ideas in the bag,
0:04:06 > 0:04:10so I'm itching to unleash some of those.
0:04:10 > 0:04:11Busy!
0:04:11 > 0:04:15The first amateur is Lucy, a textiles lecturer from Colchester.
0:04:15 > 0:04:19Are you ready for this? This is what I would love you to build for me.
0:04:19 > 0:04:20These shelves.
0:04:20 > 0:04:24Last time we saw Lucy being highly creative and taking some risks,
0:04:24 > 0:04:27but I wonder this time how she's going to handle a more classic
0:04:27 > 0:04:32brief, where she can't compromise the quality of the finishes.
0:04:34 > 0:04:38The room Lucy is working on this time started out pretty plain.
0:04:38 > 0:04:41Judges Sophie and Daniel sized it up before work began.
0:04:45 > 0:04:47- Oh, wow! Look at that view! - Stunning.
0:04:47 > 0:04:50Quite a stark white on the walls. It's a bit harsh for me.
0:04:50 > 0:04:52It's a beautiful room, though. There's some nice original features.
0:04:52 > 0:04:56It's got a lovely fireplace, which looks fairly original.
0:04:56 > 0:04:57Yeah.
0:04:57 > 0:04:59Lucy's clients love their neutrals
0:04:59 > 0:05:02and have asked her to come up with a classic elegant scheme.
0:05:02 > 0:05:07I'm wondering if she's going to push our homeowners
0:05:07 > 0:05:09- way out of their comfort zone. - That could be interesting.
0:05:09 > 0:05:15But I think she is going to have to achieve a very high finish in this property.
0:05:15 > 0:05:18The judges want quality but Lucy's going for quantity with soft
0:05:18 > 0:05:21furnishings in several layers and textures,
0:05:21 > 0:05:25a junk shop chandelier, and a large open shelving unit.
0:05:25 > 0:05:29This brief is a complete contrast to the last one.
0:05:29 > 0:05:33It's much more grown-up, so, yeah, another big challenge.
0:05:33 > 0:05:35So this is the mood board I've created for you.
0:05:35 > 0:05:38Um, timeless, elegant lounge.
0:05:38 > 0:05:41As well as getting the OK from clients Jill and Charlotte,
0:05:41 > 0:05:44she had to impress Sophie and Daniel, who will be judging
0:05:44 > 0:05:47all the designers on their presentation skills.
0:05:47 > 0:05:49It's quite crowded, sorry,
0:05:49 > 0:05:53because what I've focused on is fabrics and texture and layers.
0:05:53 > 0:05:57- And the shelves are going to be grey, with a silver edge.- Oh, OK.
0:05:57 > 0:06:02- Just to kind of lift it and give it a bit of fun and sparkle.- Ooh, OK.
0:06:02 > 0:06:07And if I've got time, cos I've got loads to do, I want to
0:06:07 > 0:06:12paint the floor with a white chequerboard design, really big.
0:06:12 > 0:06:14OK!
0:06:14 > 0:06:17Lucy's got bold plans for the furniture too.
0:06:17 > 0:06:19- So the sofas...- Yes.
0:06:19 > 0:06:22- I'm going to take the loose covers off...- Mm-hm.
0:06:22 > 0:06:26- ..and reupholster the base of them. - And then with the stool?
0:06:26 > 0:06:29Oh, yeah, the ottoman.
0:06:29 > 0:06:32I was going to chop it in half to make it two long ones, cos this
0:06:32 > 0:06:36is the layout I'm going for, which I probably should have told you first.
0:06:36 > 0:06:38Sofas opposite each other.
0:06:38 > 0:06:42OK, but then you've got your back to the window.
0:06:42 > 0:06:46- Yes. It was something I was going to try...- You could see... Yeah.
0:06:46 > 0:06:49- And see how...if it works or not. - OK.- To be honest.
0:06:49 > 0:06:55I think Lucy might have a rather good scheme there but the way
0:06:55 > 0:07:00she presented it was wholly erratic and confusing and blustering.
0:07:00 > 0:07:05She hadn't prepared herself for that presentation at all, had she?
0:07:05 > 0:07:07With work already under way,
0:07:07 > 0:07:11Lucy's homeowners have doubts about her chequerboard floor.
0:07:11 > 0:07:13You can always play chess, but...
0:07:13 > 0:07:15- Yeah!- ..I think it would just be a bit too busy.
0:07:15 > 0:07:19Right, um, I've just got one query with the design we're not totally
0:07:19 > 0:07:23happy with and that's with the chequerboard painting of the floor.
0:07:23 > 0:07:28- Yes.- Not convinced about that. - It's too much, is it?- Too much.
0:07:28 > 0:07:33Too busy? Or maybe have a different design on it? Really thick stripes.
0:07:33 > 0:07:36- Have a think.- We'll both have a think and then we'll have a chat.
0:07:36 > 0:07:38- Yeah, yeah.- Last thing today?
0:07:38 > 0:07:40Yeah, no, sure.
0:07:40 > 0:07:44The floor was quite an important element to the design.
0:07:44 > 0:07:47I think she thinks it's going to be more dramatic than it is,
0:07:47 > 0:07:49which is a shame.
0:07:54 > 0:07:56This will hopefully whet their appetite.
0:07:56 > 0:07:59Hoping he's on the right track is our second design,
0:07:59 > 0:08:01engineering manager Rob from Hull.
0:08:01 > 0:08:05Look at my sexy Persian rug!
0:08:05 > 0:08:09Last time we saw Rob create some really impressive pieces
0:08:09 > 0:08:12but he failed to set them into one cohesive scheme.
0:08:12 > 0:08:16This time, I want him to create one whole room.
0:08:16 > 0:08:18For this second round,
0:08:18 > 0:08:22Rob is taking on what was a slightly tired looking sitting-room.
0:08:22 > 0:08:23Sophie, look at it.
0:08:23 > 0:08:27From the skirting board to the picture rails to the cornice,
0:08:27 > 0:08:29it's all completely original.
0:08:29 > 0:08:31It's a perfect Georgian room.
0:08:31 > 0:08:33And this is an old settle, but it's...
0:08:33 > 0:08:36This is where the word settee comes from.
0:08:36 > 0:08:39But it's just a little bit too big for this room.
0:08:39 > 0:08:43Rob's clients are after a sumptuous Parisian-chic-inspired lounge,
0:08:43 > 0:08:46featuring their favourite shade of blue.
0:08:46 > 0:08:48The homeowner wants strong colour
0:08:48 > 0:08:51and that could be the key to making this scheme hang together.
0:08:51 > 0:08:52Let's hope Rob realises that,
0:08:52 > 0:08:57because we need to see a coherent scheme from him this time.
0:08:57 > 0:09:00Well, Rob certainly has realised that and he's aiming for
0:09:00 > 0:09:04cohesion with a vibrant blue colour scheme and dark lacquered floor.
0:09:04 > 0:09:07I've got a feeling that this is going to just chuck a cat amongst
0:09:07 > 0:09:11the pigeons for the best and I think they're going to really like it.
0:09:11 > 0:09:13- Blue.- Oh, fab. Got the blue.
0:09:13 > 0:09:17He had to get his clients Neil and Jo on board before he got going.
0:09:17 > 0:09:20- What do you call that blue, actually?- Smalt.
0:09:20 > 0:09:25What I'd like to do is go with everything the same colour.
0:09:25 > 0:09:28- OK, what, on the...- Yeah. - ..the paintwork, the door?
0:09:28 > 0:09:30- Yeah, the cupboards. - What about the floor, Rob?
0:09:30 > 0:09:32What are you going to do with that?
0:09:32 > 0:09:37I was going to invest time into sending it back and I've got a dark oak lacquer for it.
0:09:37 > 0:09:41- The wood floor there with the blue, I think works really well together. - Yeah.- Yeah, that's fine.
0:09:41 > 0:09:43Er, what about the lamp? Can we just have a look at that owl?
0:09:43 > 0:09:44I mean, I like the idea -
0:09:44 > 0:09:48just that particular owl looks a bit sort of peeved.
0:09:48 > 0:09:51- The one that I've got is quite different.- OK.
0:09:51 > 0:09:52Oh, all right, then, yeah.
0:09:52 > 0:09:56- Yeah, I'll try not to clutter the room too much.- Mmm.
0:09:56 > 0:09:58I think it's such a lovely, open room.
0:09:58 > 0:10:02- It'll spoil it when we're in there, wouldn't it?- Yeah! - THEY LAUGH
0:10:03 > 0:10:05Going for a dark scheme works really well
0:10:05 > 0:10:08because it makes it all feel quite cohesive,
0:10:08 > 0:10:11but I wonder if it's all going to look a little bit stark?
0:10:13 > 0:10:17With work already under way, Rob has no such concerns.
0:10:17 > 0:10:20This dark blue that you've got, that's pretty much going,
0:10:20 > 0:10:23well, near enough everywhere.
0:10:23 > 0:10:25Walls, doors, skirtings.
0:10:25 > 0:10:27You'll never buy blue again!
0:10:27 > 0:10:30We're going through our blue period at the moment and so,
0:10:30 > 0:10:34we love blue, want it on the walls and we actually do want to hide,
0:10:34 > 0:10:37um, so hopefully, no-one will see us when we're in there!
0:10:37 > 0:10:42Rob's complementing the blue with grey ornaments, one of which is his owl light invention.
0:10:42 > 0:10:46But the last thing a peevish owl needs is a hole in the head.
0:10:46 > 0:10:52I'm going to drill a hole through his head, um, put my lamp fitting onto there.
0:10:52 > 0:10:54It's a bit of a Marmite situation.
0:10:54 > 0:10:57For me, quite an important part of the design,
0:10:57 > 0:10:59cos it's something bold that stands out.
0:11:05 > 0:11:10Our final designer is 27-year-old DIY store worker Angelica.
0:11:10 > 0:11:14- If we have the time...- Yeah, yeah. - ..doing the alcove, for the shelving.- Of course, yeah, yeah.
0:11:14 > 0:11:16Angelica is a solid designer.
0:11:16 > 0:11:19She produced a very pleasing scheme in the first round
0:11:19 > 0:11:22but if she wants to stay in this competition,
0:11:22 > 0:11:25she has to grow in confidence and be more bold.
0:11:25 > 0:11:28This time, Angelica is redesigning a room that
0:11:28 > 0:11:31started off as a bland and underused lounge.
0:11:36 > 0:11:39The shell of this space is really lovely.
0:11:39 > 0:11:41It's got beautiful proportions, nice fireplace
0:11:41 > 0:11:45and I rather like these alcoves on either side.
0:11:45 > 0:11:48Angelica's clients want a modern look
0:11:48 > 0:11:51and to be pushed out of their neutral comfort zone.
0:11:51 > 0:11:54Angelica here has a perfect blank canvas to be really bold
0:11:54 > 0:11:57and creative, which is something that we haven't seen with
0:11:57 > 0:12:00her before, cos she's been quite safe up until now.
0:12:00 > 0:12:03So this really is a great opportunity to show us something new.
0:12:05 > 0:12:08Angelica's decided to keep the walls and floor light,
0:12:08 > 0:12:14adding the boldness with her furniture design, building a unique TV and storage unit.
0:12:14 > 0:12:18The brief this time was a challenging one but it has pushed my design ideas forward
0:12:18 > 0:12:22so I can't wait to see how it's actually going to work out.
0:12:22 > 0:12:24This here is my idea for some storage.
0:12:24 > 0:12:29She had to get sign off from clients Tracey and Adrian first.
0:12:29 > 0:12:31The units that I'm building on this wall,
0:12:31 > 0:12:33the telly is going to fit snug in there.
0:12:33 > 0:12:35It will be on a diagonal, so when you walk into the room,
0:12:35 > 0:12:39- you'll, it will just make it feel really elegant...- OK.
0:12:39 > 0:12:40So, with the floorboard,
0:12:40 > 0:12:42I know you don't like the colour at the moment.
0:12:42 > 0:12:45The colour I've chosen, it's lighter than this, so it's going to go
0:12:45 > 0:12:49- really nice with the colour scheme that I've chosen for the room.- OK.
0:12:49 > 0:12:51So, we've got a really nice calm, neutral colour.
0:12:51 > 0:12:52I'm going to add blue.
0:12:52 > 0:12:55It's called steel symphony blue, so it's got quite a lot of grey
0:12:55 > 0:12:58undertone in there and that is going to be placed on the ceiling.
0:12:58 > 0:13:00I imagined a stronger blue.
0:13:00 > 0:13:03The one interesting thing there is quite safe for me.
0:13:03 > 0:13:06Right, but we're going to have a tiny bit of orange
0:13:06 > 0:13:09- in the room as an accent colour.- OK.
0:13:09 > 0:13:11That homeowner didn't seem too impressed.
0:13:11 > 0:13:15She said she wanted to be pushed out of her neutral comfort zone
0:13:15 > 0:13:17and really, Angelica's come up with the right box,
0:13:17 > 0:13:18albeit a grey ceiling.
0:13:18 > 0:13:21Oh, hang on, I thought it looked really quite interesting
0:13:21 > 0:13:23and very contemporary.
0:13:25 > 0:13:29It seems there's more to this scheme than Angelica's let on.
0:13:29 > 0:13:31So, I've left some things as a surprise for the homeowners,
0:13:31 > 0:13:34simply just because if I revealed everything in the briefing,
0:13:34 > 0:13:36they would know what to expect.
0:13:36 > 0:13:38I'm looking forward to seeing what she does.
0:13:38 > 0:13:41- And we love the idea of a surprise, probably.- Yes.
0:13:41 > 0:13:43Yes, it will be nice to be surprised.
0:13:43 > 0:13:47But there's one surprise Angelica wasn't counting on.
0:13:47 > 0:13:50- You know that this is oil-based? - ANGELICA GASPS
0:13:50 > 0:13:52- Are you joking?- No, no, no, no, no.
0:13:52 > 0:13:54Angelica had planned to paint the floor
0:13:54 > 0:13:57with quick drying water-based paint,
0:13:57 > 0:13:59but the wrong paint has been delivered.
0:13:59 > 0:14:03It's hard wearing, but...we can't put that down on the floor.
0:14:03 > 0:14:06Right, OK. I'm going to have to give them a call,
0:14:06 > 0:14:08- cos it was supposed to be a water-based one.- Yeah.
0:14:08 > 0:14:13- It's 16 hour recoat.- Right, OK.- So you cannot go on it for 16 hours.
0:14:13 > 0:14:16- Right.- And you haven't got 16 hours.- Yeah.
0:14:16 > 0:14:19I'm really annoyed with the paint, simply because
0:14:19 > 0:14:21it's a specific colour to tone in with the walls.
0:14:21 > 0:14:24Good afternoon, I'm just ringing up to check some availability
0:14:24 > 0:14:27on a floor paint that we've seen online.
0:14:27 > 0:14:31All she can do now is order an alternative paint.
0:14:31 > 0:14:33But it's a major setback to her schedule.
0:14:33 > 0:14:37I really am stressing because it needs to be dry for tomorrow
0:14:37 > 0:14:38and I need to get it done.
0:14:42 > 0:14:44Having gotten stuck into work,
0:14:44 > 0:14:47all three designers know what's coming next,
0:14:47 > 0:14:51being judged on their mood boards and presentation skills.
0:14:51 > 0:14:55Last time, I came first in the presentation,
0:14:55 > 0:14:58which was a bit of a shock.
0:14:58 > 0:15:01I really don't know if I'm going to come first this time.
0:15:01 > 0:15:04With one designer going home at the end of this project,
0:15:04 > 0:15:05how well they do here
0:15:05 > 0:15:08will impact on the judge's final decision.
0:15:08 > 0:15:10And they're feeling tough.
0:15:12 > 0:15:13As a group,
0:15:13 > 0:15:16we feel that you guys could considerably improve
0:15:16 > 0:15:18the way you present.
0:15:23 > 0:15:25Lucy, for example.
0:15:25 > 0:15:27The way that you presented is a little bit random
0:15:27 > 0:15:29and really hard to follow.
0:15:29 > 0:15:33We were going from ceiling to floor, to wall,
0:15:33 > 0:15:36to light, then it was just exhausting. I'm really sorry.
0:15:36 > 0:15:38No, that's all right!
0:15:38 > 0:15:42Rob, we felt however that you explained your project very clearly
0:15:42 > 0:15:45and I think it's fair to say that your homeowners were
0:15:45 > 0:15:47really on board with what you were aiming to achieve.
0:15:47 > 0:15:51However, your board could still be a little more exciting.
0:15:51 > 0:15:53Really capture the mood
0:15:53 > 0:15:56- and the atmosphere that you're trying to achieve.- All right.
0:15:56 > 0:15:57And then there's Angelica.
0:15:57 > 0:16:00You really sold that project on presentation.
0:16:00 > 0:16:05However, you need to set the reasoning behind every thought.
0:16:05 > 0:16:08I feel that you had a homeowner who's a little bit confused
0:16:08 > 0:16:09on what they're getting.
0:16:14 > 0:16:18So, designers, we've taken into account everything that you did well
0:16:18 > 0:16:20and not so well.
0:16:20 > 0:16:25And the designer who did the best presentation...
0:16:25 > 0:16:26is Rob.
0:16:26 > 0:16:27- LUCY:- Well done.
0:16:27 > 0:16:30Cheers, thanks. Yeah, thank you.
0:16:30 > 0:16:33So, Lucy, Angelica, we're two rounds in and you guys need
0:16:33 > 0:16:37to seriously take a look at how you can improve your presentations.
0:16:38 > 0:16:40That was actually really nice to get that.
0:16:40 > 0:16:43I did not see that coming in the slightest.
0:16:43 > 0:16:46This is my chance and I've just really, really
0:16:46 > 0:16:48got to push myself even more.
0:16:48 > 0:16:53If there is a next time, then I need to approach it completely...
0:16:53 > 0:16:58uniquely and in a different way to either of the briefs so far.
0:17:05 > 0:17:09Each designer must now impress with a one-off scheme.
0:17:09 > 0:17:13But 200 years ago, Bath was designed to a more uniform brief.
0:17:13 > 0:17:15This beautiful harmonious crescent
0:17:15 > 0:17:18was designed by one of several architects,
0:17:18 > 0:17:20who shaped the city in the 18th century.
0:17:20 > 0:17:23But each house was funded by a different investor,
0:17:23 > 0:17:25hoping to rent it out to affluent guests.
0:17:25 > 0:17:28They employed a range of builders, so to ensure uniformity,
0:17:28 > 0:17:31those builders had to stick strictly to the architects' plans,
0:17:31 > 0:17:35with master masons employed to smooth out any blemishes.
0:17:39 > 0:17:42Bath stone gives the city its unique appearance,
0:17:42 > 0:17:45a warm honey-coloured limestone found in the local area.
0:17:45 > 0:17:50It was elegant to look at and easy to carve, but very expensive.
0:17:50 > 0:17:52Walking around these streets, you're struck by the smooth
0:17:52 > 0:17:57facades of its buildings, but turn a corner and the impression changes.
0:17:57 > 0:18:00Bath stone was used on the front of the buildings but on the back
0:18:00 > 0:18:03they used a cheap waste product, nicknamed rubblestone.
0:18:04 > 0:18:06Elegance on a budget is what Lucy's
0:18:06 > 0:18:10hoping to crack with the help of a lucky charm.
0:18:10 > 0:18:13I got this sewing machine for my 21st birthday...
0:18:14 > 0:18:16..and, um, yeah...it's amazing.
0:18:19 > 0:18:22It better be, because ambitious Lucy is choosing to hand make
0:18:22 > 0:18:26and dye cushions as well as reupholster both sofas.
0:18:26 > 0:18:30I allowed four hours to do this so I'm over already
0:18:30 > 0:18:32but this is bigger than the other one.
0:18:32 > 0:18:36I'm always like that with everything I do
0:18:36 > 0:18:41but I guess I've never really had such big time constraints.
0:18:41 > 0:18:43Come on...
0:18:43 > 0:18:45Stop the clock!
0:18:47 > 0:18:50Lucy was equally overstretched in the first round.
0:18:50 > 0:18:54I'm wadding the bed frame, ready to upholster it.
0:18:54 > 0:18:58I've got to destaple it and sand it...then paint the floor.
0:18:59 > 0:19:00She managed to pull things off.
0:19:00 > 0:19:03Her big challenge was getting this floor painted
0:19:03 > 0:19:05and I think it looks really dramatic.
0:19:05 > 0:19:08Albeit with a slightly slapdash finish.
0:19:08 > 0:19:10On that cupboard it's a bit drippy.
0:19:14 > 0:19:18- Do you have any concerns about your project?- Time as usual.
0:19:18 > 0:19:20Just fitting it all in.
0:19:20 > 0:19:22We wanted to see you rein it in a little bit on this project,
0:19:22 > 0:19:25you know, be a bit more classic, a bit more sophisticated
0:19:25 > 0:19:27and the finish is quite a key part of that.
0:19:27 > 0:19:30I'm very aware of the finish.
0:19:30 > 0:19:33I so much want to get the finish right.
0:19:33 > 0:19:36The homeowners have asked for classic and I'm not sure Lucy
0:19:36 > 0:19:37clearly understands what that is.
0:19:37 > 0:19:41Quite often it's quality, not quantity.
0:19:43 > 0:19:46A quality finish is key to Rob's Parisian-chic
0:19:46 > 0:19:48style wooden floor, too.
0:19:48 > 0:19:53For me, a big part of this room was going to be the floor being
0:19:53 > 0:19:54sanded and varnished.
0:19:54 > 0:19:56But there's a major problem.
0:19:58 > 0:20:01The sanding's revealed big white patches which a varnish
0:20:01 > 0:20:03isn't going to cover.
0:20:03 > 0:20:04Just makes you a little bit nervous
0:20:04 > 0:20:08when you've sold a scheme to someone based on a couple of key aspects
0:20:08 > 0:20:12and one of them, you know, isn't really going to be able to happen.
0:20:14 > 0:20:17What's become really apparent through the age of the boards that
0:20:17 > 0:20:20some of the stuff is just so ingrained into it, I don't
0:20:20 > 0:20:24think varnishing the floor now is probably going to be the way to go.
0:20:24 > 0:20:28I think we're looking more towards a paint finish.
0:20:28 > 0:20:30I think we'd be happy with that, yeah, absolutely.
0:20:30 > 0:20:32I can see the problem.
0:20:32 > 0:20:34No problem, right, take care, guys.
0:20:34 > 0:20:35That was good, really.
0:20:35 > 0:20:37Really great accommodating people
0:20:37 > 0:20:41and they totally understand the problems that I've got.
0:20:42 > 0:20:45Cracking the overall scheme is something Rob failed to do in
0:20:45 > 0:20:49round one, when he focused mostly on quirky inventions.
0:20:49 > 0:20:50All right, OK.
0:20:50 > 0:20:52The bulb obviously just going to sit into the top of there. It's a
0:20:52 > 0:20:56nice little jar, it will double up as a nice little lampshade.
0:20:56 > 0:20:58The results were impressive.
0:20:58 > 0:21:01These lights look very intriguing.
0:21:01 > 0:21:04But there were concerns that his room lacked cohesion.
0:21:04 > 0:21:07He's got to remember it's just not product design.
0:21:07 > 0:21:09This is about interior design.
0:21:09 > 0:21:12This time he's hoping to master the whole look
0:21:12 > 0:21:15and part of that involves spraying all his ornaments grey.
0:21:15 > 0:21:19The important thing, when you're painting anything like this
0:21:19 > 0:21:23is that you don't have any, like, grease or dust on it,
0:21:23 > 0:21:26things like that, because all that's going to happen is the paint's
0:21:26 > 0:21:29just going to stick to it and it's really going to affect your finish.
0:21:29 > 0:21:34And, of course, what I'm going for at the moment is a really good quality finish.
0:21:35 > 0:21:38Rob, I always look at you as being the sort of Caractacus Pott
0:21:38 > 0:21:41of interior design, a great inventor
0:21:41 > 0:21:44and creating lots of little bits and pieces.
0:21:44 > 0:21:46Are you going to be doing that in this room as well?
0:21:46 > 0:21:48I am going to be doing some of that in this room
0:21:48 > 0:21:52but I'm also taking on board some of your comments from the previous heats.
0:21:52 > 0:21:56I want to try as best as I can do to bring it all together.
0:21:56 > 0:21:57And the key to that is...?
0:21:57 > 0:22:01I think the way that it's going to pull together is with
0:22:01 > 0:22:04sort of grouping certain objects like the glassware that I've got,
0:22:04 > 0:22:06is all going to be sprayed the same colour
0:22:06 > 0:22:09so I think there will be a continuity there with it.
0:22:09 > 0:22:13He's really making an effort to get this kind of decorating
0:22:13 > 0:22:15scheme looking really coherent.
0:22:15 > 0:22:18My concern though is he's probably gone too far with it.
0:22:18 > 0:22:21The idea of the blue was to have a foil, lots of collections of things.
0:22:21 > 0:22:24You've got to punctuate that deep colour, haven't you?
0:22:24 > 0:22:26You've got to add accents.
0:22:29 > 0:22:31Having had a major setback with her floor paint,
0:22:31 > 0:22:34Anjelica's gotten off to a slow start.
0:22:34 > 0:22:37The replacement paint still hasn't arrived.
0:22:38 > 0:22:41I'm just really anxious when it comes,
0:22:41 > 0:22:44it's going to have to work because I've got no other choice.
0:22:45 > 0:22:46In the first round,
0:22:46 > 0:22:49Anjelica suffered a bit of a crisis of confidence.
0:22:49 > 0:22:53I'm just questioning myself whether I've actually pushed myself enough with the brief.
0:22:53 > 0:22:55Her modern ideas worked well
0:22:55 > 0:22:58but they weren't quite bold enough for the judges.
0:22:58 > 0:23:00She's played it safe.
0:23:00 > 0:23:03I know she has even more creativity in her
0:23:03 > 0:23:05and I want to see it unleashed.
0:23:05 > 0:23:10This time she's pushing the boat out with textured wallpaper.
0:23:10 > 0:23:14- Wasn't expecting to see this. - Yeah, a bit of texture. - Wallpaper? OK.
0:23:14 > 0:23:16So on the walls it's going to be the same colour as the walls
0:23:16 > 0:23:19and on the ceiling it's going to be the same colour as the ceiling.
0:23:19 > 0:23:20You've got it going over...
0:23:20 > 0:23:23Yeah, so it's just going to zone this whole section.
0:23:23 > 0:23:25- It will be extremely subtle.- Yeah.
0:23:25 > 0:23:27Don't remember you mentioning it in your presentation.
0:23:27 > 0:23:30Wanted to leave a few surprises for the homeowners
0:23:30 > 0:23:33because I was a bit nervous about explaining to them
0:23:33 > 0:23:36just in case they didn't...they thought it was going to be too much.
0:23:36 > 0:23:39Why on earth is Anjelica putting up that wallpaper,
0:23:39 > 0:23:41because she thinks it's going to add texture?
0:23:41 > 0:23:43It's actually going to just create cheapness in that room.
0:23:43 > 0:23:45It is really random.
0:23:45 > 0:23:47She's not very confident about her own ideas, so
0:23:47 > 0:23:49she thinks she's got to get them in the back door.
0:23:49 > 0:23:53Don't tell the homeowner then they won't disagree and I can get my way.
0:23:53 > 0:23:56That is not the way to proceed as a designer.
0:23:58 > 0:24:01Confidence and creativity is what all the designers need when it
0:24:01 > 0:24:05comes to thinking on their feet and they're getting a big surprise.
0:24:05 > 0:24:10- Hi, Lucy.- Hi, Sophie.- I've got a surprise challenge for you.- Oh, God!
0:24:10 > 0:24:13In this second round we're upping the ante and rather than
0:24:13 > 0:24:17give them an object to up-cycle they're getting just a raw material.
0:24:17 > 0:24:21- This time flock wallpaper.- Are you ready for this?- Yeah, I'm ready.
0:24:21 > 0:24:23Now, we want the designers to be hugely creative
0:24:23 > 0:24:26and use it in ways we've never seen before.
0:24:26 > 0:24:30I don't want to see it used conventionally on the walls, OK?
0:24:30 > 0:24:33I still haven't covered the Ottoman, that might work.
0:24:33 > 0:24:36You can use it to incorporate within your scheme.
0:24:36 > 0:24:38Or it can be a standalone piece.
0:24:38 > 0:24:41They need to use the wallpaper to design
0:24:41 > 0:24:44and create an inspired new product in 24 hours.
0:24:44 > 0:24:45Thank you.
0:24:45 > 0:24:48How well they do will feed into the judges' decision
0:24:48 > 0:24:51and could have a huge impact on the results.
0:24:51 > 0:24:55This challenge is going to test me quite a bit more than the last one.
0:24:55 > 0:24:57I don't love it but I don't hate it.
0:24:57 > 0:25:00I haven't got a clue what I'm going to do with it.
0:25:00 > 0:25:03The judges will see their ideas later on.
0:25:07 > 0:25:11The first day's been tough and all the designers are feeling the pressure.
0:25:11 > 0:25:15A little bit disappointed by the judges' comments.
0:25:15 > 0:25:18Anyone finds it hard to take criticism maybe.
0:25:18 > 0:25:22- Yeah, even if it's constructive. - Exactly. Which it is, isn't it?- Yes.
0:25:22 > 0:25:27- What about you?- I'm overthinking... like I'm doing everything wrong!
0:25:27 > 0:25:29Yeah.
0:25:29 > 0:25:31The competition's hotting up.
0:25:31 > 0:25:34I've got to give it even more than I have been because this is
0:25:34 > 0:25:38the second round now and I've really got to be, you know, performing.
0:25:38 > 0:25:41It's been a rollercoaster today, it's been ace.
0:25:41 > 0:25:45It's going to be quite good tomorrow, I'm looking forward to it.
0:25:53 > 0:25:55It's the start of the second day in Bath,
0:25:55 > 0:25:58two sofas have been reupholstered, walls have been papered
0:25:58 > 0:26:02and floors have proved resistant to sanding.
0:26:02 > 0:26:04By the end of tomorrow, one of our designers will be
0:26:04 > 0:26:06out of the competition.
0:26:06 > 0:26:11The first plan is to definitely get the floor sanded,
0:26:11 > 0:26:13that needs to be done immediately.
0:26:13 > 0:26:15I have spent quite a lot of time thinking,
0:26:15 > 0:26:17"Have I put too much blue, is there not enough blue,
0:26:17 > 0:26:21"should I have gone all out and even done the floor blue?"
0:26:21 > 0:26:25I'm feeling quite excited to just get the ball rolling
0:26:25 > 0:26:27and get going.
0:26:27 > 0:26:30Her client ended up vetoing the chequerboard floor
0:26:30 > 0:26:33so Lucy is leaving it unpainted but she's still got a lot to achieve.
0:26:33 > 0:26:38I want to get the chair painted, the table base painted,
0:26:38 > 0:26:39finish the cupboard.
0:26:39 > 0:26:43Basically get everything, most of everything done.
0:26:43 > 0:26:47I've got to make the chandelier... today...
0:26:47 > 0:26:49Oh, and cut the ottoman in half.
0:26:50 > 0:26:54- What do you think we'll need, Dickie? Hand saw, I think.- Yeah.
0:26:57 > 0:27:00To add symmetry to her elegant scheme,
0:27:00 > 0:27:03Lucy is creating two identical ottoman pieces for which she is
0:27:03 > 0:27:06covering with linen, checked fabric and leather.
0:27:06 > 0:27:10I think this elegant chic is really hard on a budget of nothing.
0:27:12 > 0:27:16So, last time you upholstered a bed and this time you've taken on another big challenge, haven't you?
0:27:16 > 0:27:20I really like big challenges and I think that's what makes me...
0:27:20 > 0:27:21gives me motivation.
0:27:21 > 0:27:23You like to push yourself?
0:27:23 > 0:27:27Yes, of course, I like not sitting still...doing a lot.
0:27:31 > 0:27:34Struggling to project manage her modern design,
0:27:34 > 0:27:36Angelica has yet to paint the floor.
0:27:37 > 0:27:41But she is well on the way with her bold TV and storage unit.
0:27:41 > 0:27:44The angled upright sides will cleverly hide what's on the shelves.
0:27:46 > 0:27:50And she has an ingenious idea for a coffee table that will
0:27:50 > 0:27:53accommodate any unexpected overnight guests.
0:27:53 > 0:27:56The main aim for the coffee table is so that it can contain the mattress
0:27:56 > 0:28:01and so as long as that's snug in there, that's...that's perfect.
0:28:07 > 0:28:11Tucked into Rob's Parisian chic room is some hidden storage.
0:28:11 > 0:28:16- It fits!- That is sexy!
0:28:16 > 0:28:18It's worked out better than I planned actually
0:28:18 > 0:28:21because there's certain items that the homeowners really wanted
0:28:21 > 0:28:26to hide away like the coal scuttle and sort of like the log baskets.
0:28:26 > 0:28:29Yeah, I'm chuffed to bits with that.
0:28:29 > 0:28:31What did you think of the brief?
0:28:31 > 0:28:33Does it push you outside your comfort zone,
0:28:33 > 0:28:35that Parisian chic look, was it?
0:28:35 > 0:28:37Yeah, it did take me totally out of my comfort zone.
0:28:37 > 0:28:42This isn't a room that I've ever come close to doing anything like
0:28:42 > 0:28:44so, it's a challenging brief.
0:28:44 > 0:28:46Are you feeling like a designer yet, an interior designer,
0:28:46 > 0:28:49professional or, I mean...it's hard work, isn't it?
0:28:49 > 0:28:51Oh, it's... It's extremely hard work
0:28:51 > 0:28:54but it's really good to be part of this.
0:28:54 > 0:28:57- It's a good learning curve, isn't it? The whole thing?- Yes, yeah.
0:28:57 > 0:29:00It's a curve all right. A very steep one!
0:29:06 > 0:29:08Oh, look at the shelves. Love it.
0:29:08 > 0:29:10As well as redesigning a whole room,
0:29:10 > 0:29:13the designers have the added pressure of demonstrating
0:29:13 > 0:29:17their creativity by integrating flock wallpaper into their schemes.
0:29:17 > 0:29:20Just going to get my thinking cap on and see what I can do with that.
0:29:20 > 0:29:23How well they tackle this challenge will influence the judges'
0:29:23 > 0:29:27decision on who stays and who leaves the competition.
0:29:27 > 0:29:29I'm thinking of creating,
0:29:29 > 0:29:33like, a kind of art piece for on top of the fireplace.
0:29:33 > 0:29:34I'm going to get rid of the colour.
0:29:34 > 0:29:37I'll paint it white or something over the top
0:29:37 > 0:29:42and make it like a kind of origami bit of sculpture on one of the walls.
0:29:42 > 0:29:45Rob's using the wallpaper to line his shelves.
0:29:45 > 0:29:49I'm just going to cut the paper to size. I've got some spray adhesive.
0:29:49 > 0:29:50That's the only space I'm going to use it
0:29:50 > 0:29:55because it doesn't work massively with my scheme.
0:29:55 > 0:29:57I don't think Rob is being that adaptable.
0:29:57 > 0:29:59He says that wallpaper doesn't fit the scheme.
0:29:59 > 0:30:01But the challenge is making it work.
0:30:01 > 0:30:03It's a neat idea though, a little hidden surprise
0:30:03 > 0:30:05when you're doing the dusting!
0:30:06 > 0:30:09Lucy's idea is anything but simple.
0:30:09 > 0:30:13This is the wallpaper so I've painted it with white emulsion
0:30:13 > 0:30:16and then I've started to chop it up into strips.
0:30:16 > 0:30:22I sort of added some fabrics and then hang one either side of
0:30:22 > 0:30:24the mirror from the picture rail
0:30:24 > 0:30:28with the LED lights wrapped round it.
0:30:28 > 0:30:29This is Lucy all over, isn't it?
0:30:29 > 0:30:31I mean, she doesn't do things by half measures
0:30:31 > 0:30:34and why not chuck in some fairy lights while you're at it?
0:30:34 > 0:30:38But as always with Lucy, she's rather over-complicating it.
0:30:38 > 0:30:41Angelica's cut small circles from her wallpaper
0:30:41 > 0:30:43and is using them to decorate a bowl.
0:30:43 > 0:30:45I don't actually know if it's going to work
0:30:45 > 0:30:48because it's a floor varnish but it's the only thing that I've got
0:30:48 > 0:30:52to make sure that these don't come off so I'm just going to go for it.
0:30:52 > 0:30:54Well, she's taken that wallpaper
0:30:54 > 0:30:56and turned it into something unrecognisable.
0:30:56 > 0:30:59I think she's taken the idea of repurposing too far.
0:30:59 > 0:31:03No, it's a shame, she's not used any element of that wallpaper design within her project.
0:31:03 > 0:31:06The items may not seem too impressive now but what
0:31:06 > 0:31:10counts for the judges is how well they work in the finished scheme.
0:31:10 > 0:31:12We'll see how they work later on.
0:31:21 > 0:31:24If they want to win this competition the designers have to think
0:31:24 > 0:31:26creatively with every detail,
0:31:26 > 0:31:30as the 18th-century architects of Bath once did.
0:31:30 > 0:31:34Much of Bath's splendour is down to one architect, John Wood.
0:31:34 > 0:31:37His King's Circus was begun in 1754
0:31:37 > 0:31:41and its design references both classical and Pagan influences.
0:31:41 > 0:31:44It's circular shape is a nod to Rome's Coliseum
0:31:44 > 0:31:47and a local druidic stone circle.
0:31:47 > 0:31:50And those acorns that run along the top reference King Bladud
0:31:50 > 0:31:53whose pigs are thought to have discovered the city's
0:31:53 > 0:31:56sulphurous waters whilst snuffling for acorns.
0:32:00 > 0:32:03As the city expanded, more and more great terraces were built,
0:32:03 > 0:32:07often looking out over grassy fields of livestock.
0:32:07 > 0:32:09This strange combination of rustic nature
0:32:09 > 0:32:12and grandeur was a term called the picturesque which was
0:32:12 > 0:32:16coined in the late 18th century but the picturesque look was
0:32:16 > 0:32:21jolly hard to achieve on Bath's hilly terrain but it was worth it
0:32:21 > 0:32:25for their all-important looks and views that it gave to its residents.
0:32:25 > 0:32:27In fact, the higher up in the city you were,
0:32:27 > 0:32:29the greater your social stature.
0:32:32 > 0:32:35Lucy's grand plan for elegance includes a statement
0:32:35 > 0:32:38chandelier made from an old fence panel.
0:32:38 > 0:32:41Experiment number 362...
0:32:41 > 0:32:45I bought a shell lampshade/chandelier
0:32:45 > 0:32:46from a car-boot sale.
0:32:46 > 0:32:49It needed poshing up a bit.
0:32:49 > 0:32:54I wanted to make a big circular thing to make more impact.
0:32:54 > 0:32:59And so I found this bit of fence at the side of the road
0:32:59 > 0:33:02and my dad cut it into strips.
0:33:03 > 0:33:06I've got to move them all. It is heavy.
0:33:06 > 0:33:09- Yes, it is.- Yes. Fandabidozi.
0:33:14 > 0:33:17Next thing just give it a try and see what it's like.
0:33:17 > 0:33:19Rob, meanwhile, has kept his inventions simple,
0:33:19 > 0:33:23taking a less-is-more approach to his project this time.
0:33:23 > 0:33:26I'm a lot more on top of things, keeping it realistic as well
0:33:26 > 0:33:29and not going over the top with it.
0:33:29 > 0:33:31What are you going to fill this room with?
0:33:31 > 0:33:34The biggest piece of furniture is the sofa.
0:33:34 > 0:33:37I'm going to address that with some darker blue cushions which
0:33:37 > 0:33:39will tie that to the walls.
0:33:39 > 0:33:41And then you've got some blue curtains coming in?
0:33:41 > 0:33:45- I've got blue curtains, yeah.- Blue walls, blue curtains.- Blue sofa.
0:33:45 > 0:33:50- Blue cushions.- Yeah.- Have we got it right so far?- Yep.- Anything else?
0:33:50 > 0:33:51Red rug.
0:33:51 > 0:33:55A red rug, that's going to be the star in the show then, isn't it?
0:33:55 > 0:33:57The brief was about luxuriousness
0:33:57 > 0:34:00but what Rob is actually doing is paring down everything
0:34:00 > 0:34:03so there's not going to be very much in the room.
0:34:05 > 0:34:08But confident his scheme is heading in the right direction,
0:34:08 > 0:34:11Rob's off to size up the competition.
0:34:11 > 0:34:12- Hello.- Hi, you all right?
0:34:12 > 0:34:15- I'm good, how are you getting on? - All right.
0:34:15 > 0:34:18- Wow, this is a cool room, isn't it?- So, got the floor to do.
0:34:18 > 0:34:21Got loads of units that I need to paint up but at the minute
0:34:21 > 0:34:23I'm just sort of really nervous and you know if you can't see
0:34:23 > 0:34:26everything coming together it seems like there's so much to do.
0:34:26 > 0:34:28It is nice to go and see
0:34:28 > 0:34:32because it just pushes you to step up your game and I wish them guys
0:34:32 > 0:34:36all the best but I'm going to drive through and hopefully be victorious.
0:34:40 > 0:34:42But there are no winners yet.
0:34:42 > 0:34:44Around the halfway point today all the designers will have to
0:34:44 > 0:34:48face their clients and reveal their work in progress.
0:34:48 > 0:34:53I'm nervous to see what they... what they think about it.
0:34:53 > 0:34:57- It's a crucial moment for all of them.- Angelica.- Hi.
0:34:57 > 0:35:00Angelica's homeowners are in for a few surprises.
0:35:04 > 0:35:07I'm not keen on the textured ceiling.
0:35:07 > 0:35:11Basically what I'm trying to create is a zone but it's going to be so
0:35:11 > 0:35:16subtle it's not going to look like Artex but it will look beautiful.
0:35:16 > 0:35:17OK.
0:35:17 > 0:35:20I think she explained that you wouldn't notice it
0:35:20 > 0:35:23but then I'm trying to figure out, well, why is it there?
0:35:26 > 0:35:28- Hi, hello.- Hi, Lucy.
0:35:28 > 0:35:30Sorry about the state of it.
0:35:30 > 0:35:33Lucy's homeowner has questions, too.
0:35:33 > 0:35:36We have quite a lot of storage which we don't really
0:35:36 > 0:35:39- want on display which needs to be unseen.- Sure.
0:35:39 > 0:35:44So I'm wondering whether you've planned any storage boxes at all?
0:35:44 > 0:35:47I haven't at all. Sorry.
0:35:47 > 0:35:49- Fair enough. - But I'll think about it.
0:35:49 > 0:35:54If it's possible at all, I will but in the timescale I'm not sure.
0:35:54 > 0:35:55Fair dos.
0:35:55 > 0:35:59I feel like there's too much.
0:35:59 > 0:36:02You can't come in and change things this late in the day
0:36:02 > 0:36:05and asked for storage boxes, sorry.
0:36:05 > 0:36:10Lucy not planning any hidden storage in that room is a major fail
0:36:10 > 0:36:12and you cannot design an elegant
0:36:12 > 0:36:15and classy interior without somewhere to hide all the gumpf.
0:36:18 > 0:36:21Rob, meanwhile, feels he's got everything covered.
0:36:21 > 0:36:24Yeah, I think it's looking great actually,
0:36:24 > 0:36:27- I'm chuffed to bits with it.- Hello. - Hiya, how are you going?
0:36:27 > 0:36:31- Blue, blue, blue. Yeah, it's great. - It's strong, isn't it?
0:36:31 > 0:36:33- I mean, it's really quite overwhelming.- Wonderful colour.
0:36:33 > 0:36:36- The television presumably is going to go here?- Yes.
0:36:36 > 0:36:38It looks a bit high, doesn't it?
0:36:38 > 0:36:42The homeowner's also now having doubts about painting the floor.
0:36:42 > 0:36:47- You won't get that see-through that you would get with a varnish.- Yeah.
0:36:47 > 0:36:51Suddenly, bang, "Actually, this, this, this, this and this,
0:36:51 > 0:36:55"we're not sure about, we don't like, we maybe want to change."
0:36:55 > 0:36:59It does, it totally unnerves you and it's thrown me.
0:37:00 > 0:37:03Thinking on his feet, Rob comes up with a compromise.
0:37:03 > 0:37:05Watered down paint mixed with varnish
0:37:05 > 0:37:07which should show the grain through it
0:37:07 > 0:37:11but he has no idea if it's going to work.
0:37:11 > 0:37:12It's nothing I've ever tried.
0:37:21 > 0:37:24Rob's not the only one with a floor crisis.
0:37:24 > 0:37:27The flooring hasn't started yet because the paint's still wet
0:37:27 > 0:37:29so we can't actually start sanding until it's dry.
0:37:29 > 0:37:32Because it's just going to get dust all over the walls.
0:37:32 > 0:37:36I'm really worried because it needs to desperately be done now.
0:37:36 > 0:37:38Attempting to answer the bold brief,
0:37:38 > 0:37:41Angelica's going for a light floor, a dark ceiling,
0:37:41 > 0:37:46and she's spent £40 on quirky lights but is she going far enough?
0:37:46 > 0:37:48You're adding some colour into the room as well?
0:37:48 > 0:37:53Yeah, I'm adding, like, a rustic orange accent colour with some cushions.
0:37:53 > 0:37:56The orange is definitely going to just warm the design
0:37:56 > 0:37:58and just make it a bit more funky.
0:37:58 > 0:38:00Angelica thinks she's being bold with her colour choices
0:38:00 > 0:38:04but at present all I am seeing is a grey room
0:38:04 > 0:38:08so the orange that she's promised better hit me in the face.
0:38:12 > 0:38:14The judges are looking for both function
0:38:14 > 0:38:16and individuality from our designers.
0:38:16 > 0:38:19Something the Georgians of Bath rather excelled that.
0:38:21 > 0:38:24As you wander Bath's streets you can pick up clues as to what life
0:38:24 > 0:38:27might have been like for its Georgian residents.
0:38:27 > 0:38:30This here was a candle snuffer, designed to extinguish
0:38:30 > 0:38:33the flaming torches that lit up the night sky,
0:38:33 > 0:38:36carried by linkboys or attached to sedan chairs.
0:38:36 > 0:38:39Elsewhere you can find winches that carried heavy goods down into
0:38:39 > 0:38:43the basement and coal covers covering the original coal shoots.
0:38:45 > 0:38:48From a distance, the outside of this house looks pretty uniform
0:38:48 > 0:38:50but close-up you can see those windows up there
0:38:50 > 0:38:52on the right are actually painted on.
0:38:52 > 0:38:55You see fake windows like this all over the country,
0:38:55 > 0:38:58a direct result of people trying to avoid the dreaded window tax
0:38:58 > 0:39:00by blocking up their windows whilst maintaining
0:39:00 > 0:39:03the overall look of the building.
0:39:03 > 0:39:06This tax was only abolished in the mid-19th century by which time it
0:39:06 > 0:39:10had become so despised it inspired the phrase, "daylight robbery".
0:39:14 > 0:39:17It's time the designers feel they are being robbed of, as day two
0:39:17 > 0:39:19draws to a close.
0:39:19 > 0:39:22I can cover two sofas in a day.
0:39:22 > 0:39:26But I can't make all the cushions as well.
0:39:26 > 0:39:28Floors still need finishing.
0:39:28 > 0:39:31Angelica's now sanded hers but the right paint has only just arrived.
0:39:31 > 0:39:34I'm going to have to stay even later and get that done
0:39:34 > 0:39:37because that has to be done today regardless.
0:39:37 > 0:39:41The battle is on to avoid elimination.
0:39:41 > 0:39:43I've got to just push on to the finish now.
0:39:43 > 0:39:47I really want to be able to come back and show the judges that
0:39:47 > 0:39:50I do listen and that I can get better and better.
0:39:50 > 0:39:53Of course I don't want to go out of the competition having put
0:39:53 > 0:39:57all this hard work into it because I am really choked.
0:39:57 > 0:40:00I've put my all in to it.
0:40:10 > 0:40:13It's day three and the final chance for our designers to pull together
0:40:13 > 0:40:17their schemes and come what may, one of them will be going home today.
0:40:18 > 0:40:20With just a few hours
0:40:20 > 0:40:25until the judges see the complete schemes, the pressure is on.
0:40:25 > 0:40:30I feel really excited, um, my nerves have calmed down a bit.
0:40:30 > 0:40:34I don't want to think about it. I just want them to like it.
0:40:34 > 0:40:36I just want them to come in and be blown away by it
0:40:36 > 0:40:39and I can go home a happy, happy boy.
0:40:41 > 0:40:45But he won't be happy until he's seen how his floor's turned out.
0:40:45 > 0:40:52If the floor hasn't worked out as I hope it's worked out then that's it.
0:40:52 > 0:40:55There... There's no alternatives.
0:40:55 > 0:40:58The floor is a major part of Rob's scheme.
0:40:58 > 0:41:03A problem at this late stage could throw his whole project in the air.
0:41:03 > 0:41:05Wow.
0:41:05 > 0:41:07Yes! It's worked!
0:41:07 > 0:41:09Thank you!
0:41:09 > 0:41:12Now, you wanted a cohesive scheme from Rob, are you seeing it?
0:41:12 > 0:41:14The homeowners wanted really quite a lavish
0:41:14 > 0:41:18and eccentric scheme in there and they were really up for colour.
0:41:18 > 0:41:19Love the blue.
0:41:19 > 0:41:22It is perfect but we're yet to see what else is going into that
0:41:22 > 0:41:25- room so, too early to call, isn't it?- Hmmm.
0:41:27 > 0:41:30Lucy, on the other hand, has two re-upholstered sofas,
0:41:30 > 0:41:34two ottomans, several new cushions and there's more to come.
0:41:34 > 0:41:38It's meant to hang in there, the grey bits, just down,
0:41:38 > 0:41:40you see. That's it.
0:41:40 > 0:41:41Here you go.
0:41:41 > 0:41:44She's using a car-boot bought shell lampshade to
0:41:44 > 0:41:46complete her chandelier.
0:41:46 > 0:41:48That's quite nice.
0:41:48 > 0:41:50Is Lucy's scheme coming together?
0:41:50 > 0:41:54She's got some nice details, some very well-designed items
0:41:54 > 0:41:56but if she actually manages to pull that room together
0:41:56 > 0:41:59and finish on time is yet to be seen.
0:42:02 > 0:42:06Also yet to be seen is bold colour in Angelica's room.
0:42:06 > 0:42:08The curtains are way too heavy and so I don't know
0:42:08 > 0:42:11whether I'm going to get rid of them, I'm not sure.
0:42:11 > 0:42:14Has Angelica's scheme got that boldness and creativity you were after?
0:42:14 > 0:42:17- Yes!- No!- Oh, I think it has!
0:42:17 > 0:42:18Try to justify that one for me, then.
0:42:18 > 0:42:21- Well, she's painted the ceiling dark grey.- That's cool.
0:42:21 > 0:42:22That's pretty cool.
0:42:22 > 0:42:25But I'm looking forward to the orange that she's promised us.
0:42:25 > 0:42:26I haven't seen any yet
0:42:26 > 0:42:29but it potentially could really zap up that room.
0:42:32 > 0:42:35And it's finally time for the orange to make its debut.
0:42:35 > 0:42:38I'm going to do a flat piece of art
0:42:38 > 0:42:42so it's like different colours fading into each other.
0:42:42 > 0:42:44Albeit in a small way.
0:42:44 > 0:42:48But just really subtle and just make everything pop even more.
0:42:51 > 0:42:54Dickie, you haven't got a lovely little tack hammer?
0:42:56 > 0:43:00All the designers have had three days and £1,000 to transform a room.
0:43:00 > 0:43:03I tell you what we'll do if it's all right with you, we'll bring
0:43:03 > 0:43:05the sofa in so we can get that built.
0:43:05 > 0:43:07They've been tested on their client briefing skills
0:43:07 > 0:43:11and had to rely on their wits to create a new unique product
0:43:11 > 0:43:15- which will be judged in the finished rooms.- Right about a centimetre.
0:43:17 > 0:43:21With the deadline approaching, Angelica's adding her final touches.
0:43:21 > 0:43:23I still need to put the rug down,
0:43:23 > 0:43:27get the sofa in and dress the room so there's loads to be done.
0:43:27 > 0:43:30Having failed to win the argument with her surprise textured ceiling,
0:43:30 > 0:43:33she's hoping to impress with bold furniture design.
0:43:37 > 0:43:40Done. It's all done now. It's dressed.
0:43:44 > 0:43:47Oh, I'm so relieved that it's finished now
0:43:47 > 0:43:48and all the hard work's over.
0:43:50 > 0:43:53Angelica's brief was to create a modern and bold family lounge.
0:43:57 > 0:43:59Three days ago the room was tired and bland.
0:44:09 > 0:44:13Angelica has created a contemporary look combining neutral walls
0:44:13 > 0:44:16with a dark ceiling and orange soft furnishings.
0:44:19 > 0:44:21She's gone bold with structural
0:44:21 > 0:44:25and useful pieces of bespoke furniture but kept things subtle
0:44:25 > 0:44:29elsewhere with textured wallpaper and pared-back artwork.
0:44:29 > 0:44:32I definitely think I've been more bold and original so I've definitely
0:44:32 > 0:44:35listened to what the judges said and I hope they like it.
0:44:38 > 0:44:40Oh.
0:44:42 > 0:44:44I love the rug. That's one of the surprises, isn't it?
0:44:44 > 0:44:48I do feel a little bit too much has been painted with the same tin.
0:44:48 > 0:44:52We were promised some colour injection in this room with this
0:44:52 > 0:44:56wonderful burnt orange but, actually, I've got a pair of cushions
0:44:56 > 0:44:59and that's just not enough.
0:44:59 > 0:45:01I think Angelica tried to put a little bit more
0:45:01 > 0:45:04interest in the room by working with texture instead of colour and she's
0:45:04 > 0:45:09done it by putting wallpaper on the walls here but not having it there.
0:45:09 > 0:45:12It's totally subtle. There's nothing bold about it.
0:45:12 > 0:45:16But for me the big star is this and I've a feeling that
0:45:16 > 0:45:20I might just try and nick her idea because this is rather cool.
0:45:20 > 0:45:22It's very architectural actually.
0:45:22 > 0:45:25By putting the verticals on an angle it is actually hiding all
0:45:25 > 0:45:28the stuff inside them when you walk into the room.
0:45:28 > 0:45:33- I think it's an ingenious idea.- As well as Angelica's overall scheme.
0:45:33 > 0:45:36Sophie and Daniel want to judge how well she's integrated
0:45:36 > 0:45:39the upcycled wallpaper into the room.
0:45:39 > 0:45:40This is too abstract.
0:45:40 > 0:45:42I think if she had cut out the flock pattern
0:45:42 > 0:45:44and glued it on, so you could at least read
0:45:44 > 0:45:49the pattern, it would have been good but that is too far gone, I'm afraid.
0:45:49 > 0:45:52Last time Angelica gave us a really impressive cohesive scheme
0:45:52 > 0:45:55and this time she's certainly answered the brief but we
0:45:55 > 0:45:59also wanted her to be a little bit bolder in her design.
0:45:59 > 0:46:00Has she done enough?
0:46:02 > 0:46:05I'm really hoping that when the homeowners see the room
0:46:05 > 0:46:07they like it and can see my vision.
0:46:07 > 0:46:10If they hate it I'm going to be really sad about that.
0:46:10 > 0:46:11Right, your new sitting-room.
0:46:15 > 0:46:18- Oh, wow.- Wow, yeah. - Well, what do you think?
0:46:19 > 0:46:25- I like it. I like it.- I'm still not convinced about the textured paper.
0:46:25 > 0:46:26I think she could have pushed us
0:46:26 > 0:46:28further with the colour on the ceiling.
0:46:28 > 0:46:30I'm quite open to a good shot of colour.
0:46:30 > 0:46:33I think there could have been a lot more orange but yes,
0:46:33 > 0:46:36overall, it is laid out nicely and I asked for, or
0:46:36 > 0:46:40we asked for, modern and essentially that's what she's achieved.
0:46:42 > 0:46:45With the finish line in sight it is a mad dash for Lucy.
0:46:45 > 0:46:49Who knows the judges will be keeping tabs on the quality of her work.
0:46:49 > 0:46:50There's blobs on there.
0:46:50 > 0:46:54Get a little artist paint brush and the light colour grey
0:46:54 > 0:46:56and just do those, would you?
0:46:58 > 0:47:01Earlier she put herself under major time pressure and she still
0:47:01 > 0:47:05has lots of accessories to put on her open shelves.
0:47:05 > 0:47:08Just put that up the top, will you?
0:47:08 > 0:47:12- Thank you so much.- It looks great.
0:47:12 > 0:47:13Really good.
0:47:16 > 0:47:19I'm really, really proud of myself.
0:47:21 > 0:47:26Sorry. Just really proud to have achieved all of that...
0:47:26 > 0:47:27in that space of time.
0:47:29 > 0:47:33Lucy was asked to come up with a classic, elegant scheme.
0:47:34 > 0:47:36Before, the room was pretty stark.
0:47:47 > 0:47:50Now it's cosy and inviting with a varied neutral palette.
0:47:52 > 0:47:57Lucy's introduced texture with linens, leather and wool.
0:47:57 > 0:47:59She's covered the existing sofas,
0:47:59 > 0:48:03rearranged the layout and added an open shelving unit.
0:48:03 > 0:48:06She's completed the scheme with a budget chandelier.
0:48:06 > 0:48:09It kind of surpassed my expectations
0:48:09 > 0:48:12when I saw it all come together so, yeah, really, really pleased.
0:48:15 > 0:48:17Oh, this is super. Now what do you think of this layout, Dan?
0:48:17 > 0:48:20Because this was a bit of a contentious issue.
0:48:20 > 0:48:21Well, let's just try it out.
0:48:21 > 0:48:23I'm going to sit on this chair here where
0:48:23 > 0:48:27I can talk to you beautifully and at the same time
0:48:27 > 0:48:29I can look out the window at an angle and see the view.
0:48:29 > 0:48:30No, I like it here.
0:48:30 > 0:48:33The sofas... I think she's got these finished beautifully with
0:48:33 > 0:48:35the different textures and the colours.
0:48:35 > 0:48:38I think the piece de resistance in this room is in fact this
0:48:38 > 0:48:39pendant light.
0:48:39 > 0:48:42It really holds the space because these are high ceilings in here.
0:48:42 > 0:48:43While I like this scheme,
0:48:43 > 0:48:46and I think there's some really lovely styling in here,
0:48:46 > 0:48:48it is very decorative.
0:48:48 > 0:48:50There is a lot going on in here
0:48:50 > 0:48:52because they did want a very classical pared-down look.
0:48:52 > 0:48:55The Georgian style is quite minimal
0:48:55 > 0:48:59and maybe it is overkill all these knickknacks absolutely everywhere.
0:48:59 > 0:49:02Is Lucy's twist on the upcycle challenge clever enough to
0:49:02 > 0:49:05tie in with her classic elegant scheme?
0:49:05 > 0:49:06You have to really, really,
0:49:06 > 0:49:08really look to know that that is actually wallpaper.
0:49:08 > 0:49:11Yeah, I think it would have been nice if it had been a little bit
0:49:11 > 0:49:14closer to flock. I know we asked them to think laterally but she's
0:49:14 > 0:49:17just used it almost as a background for paper.
0:49:20 > 0:49:24My biggest hope is that the homeowners just walk in there
0:49:24 > 0:49:29- and love it and aren't critical about anything.- Come in.
0:49:29 > 0:49:30Oh.
0:49:30 > 0:49:32Oh, wow.
0:49:33 > 0:49:35- OK.- Oh, my goodness.
0:49:35 > 0:49:36The shelving is great.
0:49:36 > 0:49:40- The shelves are, yeah, fantastic. - Is it elegant enough for you?
0:49:40 > 0:49:44I think it's quite a modern elegance rather than a Georgian elegance
0:49:44 > 0:49:47- if you like.- Anything looking around you're not quite sure of?
0:49:47 > 0:49:50- I think it's quite busy. - What, too much stuff?
0:49:50 > 0:49:55A little bit too much but I actually think it looks really good.
0:49:58 > 0:50:01Hoping his room will look really good too is Rob,
0:50:01 > 0:50:04but he's wondering if he's got enough Parisian chic
0:50:04 > 0:50:05along with all the blue.
0:50:05 > 0:50:08I'm worried that I haven't really got as much of
0:50:08 > 0:50:11my sort of like gold accent that I wanted to put in.
0:50:11 > 0:50:13Having had a floor nightmare,
0:50:13 > 0:50:15Rob is ready to show it off,
0:50:15 > 0:50:17with the help of a £100 rug.
0:50:17 > 0:50:20- Yes, there is more, isn't there, Rob?- Yeah.
0:50:20 > 0:50:22One last little touch.
0:50:24 > 0:50:25I'm done!
0:50:28 > 0:50:30- LAUGHING:- Yeah, I'm so tired.
0:50:30 > 0:50:32I think I'm a little bit delirious.
0:50:34 > 0:50:38Rob's brief was to create a sitting room with a Parisian chic theme.
0:50:39 > 0:50:42Three days ago, this room was more faded grandeur.
0:50:53 > 0:50:55Now, it's a sumptuous sitting-room
0:50:55 > 0:50:58with rich blue walls and a dark, polished floor.
0:50:58 > 0:51:02Rob's added storage, decorative ornaments,
0:51:02 > 0:51:05and some quirky inventions to light up the room.
0:51:05 > 0:51:08He's finished the look with a few gold frames
0:51:08 > 0:51:10and a splash of red with the rug.
0:51:10 > 0:51:12I'm nervous that the judges are going to think
0:51:12 > 0:51:15I've gone from no cohesion
0:51:15 > 0:51:17to all-out cohesion,
0:51:17 > 0:51:20because everything's painted exactly the same colour.
0:51:23 > 0:51:24HE LAUGHS
0:51:24 > 0:51:27- It's pretty high impact, isn't it?- Oh, yes.
0:51:27 > 0:51:31Up until this point we have just seen a bit of a blue walls,
0:51:31 > 0:51:34black floor, bit of a Goth box, actually, wasn't it?
0:51:34 > 0:51:35- LAUGHTER - Yes!
0:51:35 > 0:51:40But that beautiful Persian rug just hits you with a big bolt of warmth.
0:51:40 > 0:51:42- Love it.- Yeah. It gives a glow to the room. It needed it.
0:51:42 > 0:51:46I thought the floor was going to be quite oppressive,
0:51:46 > 0:51:48and if it had been painted in flat black
0:51:48 > 0:51:50I think it might have looked like a nasty pub.
0:51:50 > 0:51:51- LAUGHING:- Yes!
0:51:51 > 0:51:53But because there's a patina
0:51:53 > 0:51:55and it's more of a wash,
0:51:55 > 0:51:59it's more interesting, and more in keeping with a Georgian room.
0:51:59 > 0:52:00Now that it's in situ,
0:52:00 > 0:52:04can the judges even see Rob's flock wallpaper challenge?
0:52:04 > 0:52:06Spot the wallpaper.
0:52:06 > 0:52:07It's fairly hidden.
0:52:07 > 0:52:10It's on the top of the shelves over in the corner, there.
0:52:10 > 0:52:13It does question for me, is he adaptable?
0:52:13 > 0:52:16Because what he's saying is "I've got this scheme,
0:52:16 > 0:52:19"I'm sticking to it," and if we're going to chuck wallpaper at it,
0:52:19 > 0:52:22he's just sort of thrown it out of the window, really.
0:52:22 > 0:52:25- You think the shelf lining is not the most exciting solution.- Exactly.
0:52:25 > 0:52:26Check out the owl in the corner.
0:52:26 > 0:52:30I like the way he's taken quite, you know, junk shop finds,
0:52:30 > 0:52:32painted them all up in this gunmetal grey.
0:52:32 > 0:52:33They look very sophisticated,
0:52:33 > 0:52:36but they are quite close to the wall colour, and so are the curtains,
0:52:36 > 0:52:38and I think the effect overall...
0:52:38 > 0:52:40is a little unexciting.
0:52:40 > 0:52:43Everything kind of blends into each other a little bit too much.
0:52:43 > 0:52:45I'd like to have seen a bit more gold in here, for example.
0:52:45 > 0:52:48Gold would look great in this room.
0:52:48 > 0:52:51Actually, some gold velvet would be really exciting.
0:52:53 > 0:52:54Such a nice room.
0:52:54 > 0:52:58And if the homeowner's not happy with it, I'll rent it off 'em.
0:52:58 > 0:53:00Wow!
0:53:00 > 0:53:01Gosh!
0:53:01 > 0:53:03HOMEOWNER HUMS A DRAMATIC TUNE
0:53:03 > 0:53:06- Blue!- There's a lot of blue. - Blue, blue, blue!
0:53:06 > 0:53:08- Yes, it's a fantastic amount of blue.- I love the floor.- Oh!
0:53:08 > 0:53:11Cos he was really worried about the floor, but I love the floor.
0:53:11 > 0:53:14- Yeah! The floor's looking good, isn't it?- Rug's great.
0:53:14 > 0:53:16Does the room have that kind of Parisian chic look?
0:53:16 > 0:53:20I think what's missing is that lovely warm golden look,
0:53:20 > 0:53:23but the little bits that he has added, I think
0:53:23 > 0:53:26the owl light that we were worried about has been great.
0:53:26 > 0:53:28I love it.
0:53:31 > 0:53:33It's a waiting game now for the designers,
0:53:33 > 0:53:35as the judges decide which of them will be
0:53:35 > 0:53:37going through to the next round,
0:53:37 > 0:53:40and who will be leaving the competition.
0:53:40 > 0:53:42I'm definitely more nervous than I was in round one,
0:53:42 > 0:53:45simply because I just want it so badly.
0:53:45 > 0:53:50Really pleased with how I've done, so I just hope I've done enough.
0:53:50 > 0:53:53You don't know which way it's going to go. Fingers crossed.
0:53:53 > 0:53:55We'll see what happens in a few minutes.
0:53:56 > 0:53:58What an amazing setting! Bath!
0:53:58 > 0:54:00Great rooms, and amazing views!
0:54:00 > 0:54:03I mean, to some designers that might be quite intimidating.
0:54:03 > 0:54:05Oh, I know, and our expectations are seriously high.
0:54:05 > 0:54:07You wanted Lucy to do a real classic scheme this time.
0:54:07 > 0:54:09Do you think she achieved that?
0:54:09 > 0:54:12If you're looking at the classic rules, she knows them,
0:54:12 > 0:54:15she knows how to layer, she knows how to play with colour,
0:54:15 > 0:54:16she knows how to play with texture.
0:54:16 > 0:54:19But when you're dealing with an elegant Georgian townhouse,
0:54:19 > 0:54:21and you want a very classic look, it needs to feel a bit more
0:54:21 > 0:54:25luxurious, so maybe a little bit more velvet, a little bit more...
0:54:25 > 0:54:26sheen and glamour.
0:54:26 > 0:54:31And I think a reduction of all those bits and pieces would really
0:54:31 > 0:54:34put some sense into that room, and just calm it down a little bit.
0:54:34 > 0:54:37What do the homeowners think, did they think that it was busy,
0:54:37 > 0:54:38- as we felt?- Yeah.
0:54:38 > 0:54:40That was the one thing that they picked up on.
0:54:40 > 0:54:43Now, Rob. He's great at designing individual products,
0:54:43 > 0:54:45but you were worried about the whole room holding together.
0:54:45 > 0:54:48The tone of blue he picked just vibrated in that room,
0:54:48 > 0:54:49it was electric, I loved it.
0:54:49 > 0:54:51But it needed a little bit more.
0:54:51 > 0:54:53I mean, if you're going to do Parisian chic,
0:54:53 > 0:54:56you need to be a bit flamboyant, have some joie de vivre.
0:54:56 > 0:54:58But he came up with some super ideas.
0:54:58 > 0:55:01I loved how he turned the original cupboard in the corner
0:55:01 > 0:55:03into the TV box.
0:55:03 > 0:55:05I mean, the thing is the homeowners loved those quirky details
0:55:05 > 0:55:07that he did put in. They like the owl!
0:55:07 > 0:55:09- He should have just done more. - Yeah, more.
0:55:09 > 0:55:11That's the key with Rob, we want more.
0:55:11 > 0:55:14You wanted to see much more boldness from Angelica.
0:55:14 > 0:55:16- Did you see it in her scheme? - I feel a little disappointed.
0:55:16 > 0:55:20This homeowner asked to be pushed out of their beige comfort zone.
0:55:20 > 0:55:23- And what does she get?- We only got a couple of orange cushions, didn't we?
0:55:23 > 0:55:25The homeowners did pick up on that.
0:55:25 > 0:55:28I mean, particularly her. She wanted to see more of that.
0:55:28 > 0:55:31But when you see somebody create a piece of furniture
0:55:31 > 0:55:34like that TV housing, and that storage,
0:55:34 > 0:55:38you know you've got somebody who's interesting as a designer.
0:55:38 > 0:55:39These rooms...
0:55:39 > 0:55:42High ceilings, incredible views, great architecture.
0:55:42 > 0:55:44These designers have been really challenged this time.
0:55:44 > 0:55:46Will you take all that into account when judging?
0:55:46 > 0:55:49I think it's going to be a really tough decision this time.
0:56:00 > 0:56:03Incredible architecture, high ceilings, big rooms.
0:56:03 > 0:56:06You three really have had an interior design challenge this time.
0:56:06 > 0:56:10Yes, we can all agree these properties are magnificent
0:56:10 > 0:56:14but as a result, our expectations have been particularly high.
0:56:14 > 0:56:16And also my envy.
0:56:16 > 0:56:19You've been working on Georgian architecture, my favourite.
0:56:19 > 0:56:22So all three of you had a real tough challenge this time,
0:56:22 > 0:56:25but one of you I'm afraid has to go home today.
0:56:25 > 0:56:29And the designer going home this time is...
0:56:38 > 0:56:39..Angelica.
0:56:42 > 0:56:46- We're sorry, love. Really tight competition this week.- Ohh!
0:56:46 > 0:56:50Oh, I'm absolutely devastated.
0:56:50 > 0:56:52I wish that...
0:56:52 > 0:56:55I know what I could have done better,
0:56:55 > 0:56:57but I just need to keep going, and it's an amazing experience
0:56:57 > 0:57:00overall, so I'm really proud of that.
0:57:00 > 0:57:02- Hiya!- Hi!- Hi!
0:57:02 > 0:57:05- Do you like it? - Yeah, you're very clever.
0:57:05 > 0:57:07- Do you... Oh, brilliant!- Yeah.
0:57:07 > 0:57:11When your client asks to be pushed out of their beige comfort zone,
0:57:11 > 0:57:15it's an interior designer's job to show them how to use colour.
0:57:15 > 0:57:18She failed to do that, so that was really what sent her home today.
0:57:21 > 0:57:25I'm just so chuffed to have got as far as this,
