0:26:39 > 0:26:42It's a special mountain called a Munro.

0:26:43 > 0:26:47This is because it's more than 1,000 metres high.

0:27:38 > 0:27:39Why have they got wool?

0:27:39 > 0:27:41To keep them warm.

0:27:41 > 0:27:44Oh! Just like my scarf.

0:27:44 > 0:27:46The sheep that live on Ben Cruachan

0:27:46 > 0:27:48are called Scottish Blackface sheep.

0:27:48 > 0:27:50Can you see why?

0:27:54 > 0:27:58The explorers continue their adventure up the mountain,

0:27:58 > 0:28:01when William spots some plants.

0:28:04 > 0:28:09Look at all these thistles. They look really spiky.

0:28:12 > 0:28:15When William catches up with his friends,

0:28:15 > 0:28:17they spy some more things that grow on the rocks.

0:28:17 > 0:28:21Look, there's all the moss, Euan. Look how much water's in it, look!

0:28:21 > 0:28:25- Oh! The water's coming through the rock.- It's absolutely soaking.

0:28:25 > 0:28:29- And this is an orchid. - An orchid is a very delicate plant.

0:28:29 > 0:28:33They also find a plant called a yellow mountain saxifrage.

0:28:33 > 0:28:36It's got a nice bright yellow, hasn't it, William?

0:28:36 > 0:28:39- It's a lovely yellow plant, isn't it?- Yes!

0:28:39 > 0:28:40Feel that, Euan.

0:28:49 > 0:28:52There are lots of plants that grow on the mountain,

0:28:52 > 0:28:55like heather, and foxgloves.

0:28:55 > 0:28:58William even finds a Scotch bluebell.

0:28:58 > 0:29:02Ah! Lovely blue flowers!

0:29:02 > 0:29:05William knows you should never pick wild flowers,

0:29:05 > 0:29:07in case they don't grow back.

0:29:08 > 0:29:11Finally, the adventurers make it to the top of the mountain

0:29:11 > 0:29:13and look down at the valley below.

0:29:13 > 0:29:17Wow! It looks so far away!

0:29:17 > 0:29:20How far do you think that is?

0:29:20 > 0:29:21I don't really know.

0:29:21 > 0:29:24I think it might be a zillion miles!

0:29:25 > 0:29:28Don't be silly, William! It can't be that far!

0:29:30 > 0:29:32As they head back down the mountain,

0:29:32 > 0:29:35they come across a large pool of water.

0:29:35 > 0:29:38Wow! Look at all this water!

0:29:38 > 0:29:43Cheesephone, what can you tell me about water and mountains?

0:29:43 > 0:29:49When it rains, the rainwater runs down the mountain into streams.

0:29:49 > 0:29:51The streams then flow into rivers,

0:29:51 > 0:29:54and into lakes,

0:29:54 > 0:29:56and then into the sea.

0:29:58 > 0:30:02So all the water runs down the mountain!

0:30:02 > 0:30:06Look! What's that?

0:30:06 > 0:30:08That's a dam.

0:30:08 > 0:30:12A dam is a large wall that is built to trap water.

0:30:12 > 0:30:16The dam at Ben Cruachan traps rainwater in a lake

0:30:16 > 0:30:18as it runs off the mountain.

0:30:20 > 0:30:23This mountain holds a secret.

0:30:23 > 0:30:27Inside is a power station. A power station

0:30:27 > 0:30:29is a place where you make electricity.

0:30:33 > 0:30:36William and Euan continue their adventure.

0:30:36 > 0:30:41They're going to go inside the mountain to visit the power station.

0:30:41 > 0:30:44Oh, it's getting dark.

0:30:44 > 0:30:46The lights are on, William.

0:30:46 > 0:30:48Oh, there ARE some lights.

0:30:48 > 0:30:51Wow! Look at that!

0:30:51 > 0:30:53Wow, William!

0:30:53 > 0:30:55It goes a long way.

0:30:57 > 0:31:00When they arrive at the power station,

0:31:00 > 0:31:02they meet John, who works there.

0:31:02 > 0:31:07We are now overlooking the machine hall where we make the electricity.

0:31:07 > 0:31:11The machine hall looks huge. How big is it, John?

0:31:11 > 0:31:15It's so big, you could fit the Tower of London inside.

0:31:15 > 0:31:17Wow! That is big!

0:31:17 > 0:31:20It's very noisy!

0:31:20 > 0:31:23That's the sound of electricity being made.

0:31:24 > 0:31:26The rainwater collected by the dam

0:31:26 > 0:31:30travels into the mountain through steel pipes.

0:31:30 > 0:31:35Underneath the large units is a machine called a turbine.

0:31:35 > 0:31:39Once the water arrives, it makes the turbines turn.

0:31:41 > 0:31:47As the turbines turn, they generate power in the form of electricity.

0:31:47 > 0:31:52This is called hydroelectric power, because it is made using water.

0:31:52 > 0:31:56We use electricity to power lots of things in our homes,

0:31:56 > 0:32:01like washing machines, TVs and toasters.

0:32:03 > 0:32:08Above the machine hall is a special room called the control room.

0:32:08 > 0:32:12Inside the control room, workmen are busy sending out the electricity

0:32:12 > 0:32:16made at the power station to all the homes around the local area.

0:32:16 > 0:32:22Wow! Look at all these buttons and dials! Heehee!

0:32:24 > 0:32:28Thank you so much for showing me round the power station, John.

0:32:28 > 0:32:29It was my pleasure, William.

0:32:29 > 0:32:33Come on, William. I think we deserve a drink after our adventure.

0:32:46 > 0:32:49- so you can remember your adventure on the mountain with me.- Oh!

0:32:49 > 0:32:52Euan gives William a piece of mountain rock.

0:32:52 > 0:32:56It's been an amazing mountain adventure.

0:32:56 > 0:33:00Explorers Away!

0:33:01 > 0:33:04Can you remember where William went today?

0:33:04 > 0:33:08William visited his friend Euan on a mountain in Scotland.

0:33:09 > 0:33:13On his journey, William saw plants...

0:33:13 > 0:33:16and lots of water.

0:33:16 > 0:33:19Can you remember what it was stored in?

0:33:19 > 0:33:21It was stored in a dam.

0:33:23 > 0:33:28Next, he went INSIDE the mountain, where he got to see a power station.
