0:04:14 > 0:04:16slaving over a hot turkey tomorrow.

0:04:16 > 0:04:18And there will be people like the nurses

0:04:18 > 0:04:21and the special services who have to work on this day

0:04:21 > 0:04:25and I bet you that at this moment, even somewhere on the M1,

0:04:25 > 0:04:28there's a fellow starting to dig a hole just in case anybody

0:04:28 > 0:04:31thinks they're getting home for Christmas are going to get

0:04:31 > 0:04:35away with it, there's going to be roadworks, I promise you, on the M1.

0:04:35 > 0:04:37And of course, the BBC doesn't sort of close down for the day.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40There's a skeleton staff here, you know, special people.

0:04:40 > 0:04:42The commissionaire will be on the gate down there

0:04:42 > 0:04:44and we'll also have the man who puts the shillings

0:04:44 > 0:04:47in the meter to keep the transmitter going while you're at home.

0:04:47 > 0:04:49And the fellow who keeps an eye on the aerial in case

0:04:49 > 0:04:52your picture gets wobbly. And there's one particular...

0:04:52 > 0:04:55Incidentally, is there anybody here tonight who works on Christmas Day?

0:04:55 > 0:04:58Anybody here who will be working on Christmas Day? One lady.

0:04:58 > 0:05:02- What will you be doing, love? - Pulling pints.- Pulling pints!

0:05:02 > 0:05:04On Christmas Day!

0:05:04 > 0:05:09Well done. Anybody else? Up the back? Nobody. Just one. Pretty good.

0:05:09 > 0:05:12Pretty good. As I say, as I say, in the BBC,

0:05:12 > 0:05:14there's just a few people who work

0:05:14 > 0:05:17and I want to talk about a very special lady who on Christmas Day,

0:05:17 > 0:05:21year after year, comes on your screen to give you a special

0:05:21 > 0:05:24message at Christmas and believe it or not,

0:05:24 > 0:05:27she's here as my special guest to start the show tonight.

0:05:27 > 0:05:29You think it's the Queen, don't you?

0:05:29 > 0:05:31Ladies and gentlemen, the lovely lady who comes to

0:05:31 > 0:05:34read your news every Christmas Day, Jan Leeming.

0:05:34 > 0:05:35Thank you very much.

0:05:35 > 0:05:38APPLAUSE

0:05:42 > 0:05:44Thank you.

0:05:46 > 0:05:50- Isn't that nice?- Lovely. - Lovely to see you, Jan.- Thank you for asking me.

0:05:50 > 0:05:52Now, I've always wanted to know, now you come in on...

0:05:52 > 0:05:56- You've done this for years, haven't you, Christmas Day?- Mhm.- How many? - Nine.- Nine years?

0:05:56 > 0:05:59I've worked Christmas and Boxing, or one or the other,

0:05:59 > 0:06:01seven years in television and two in radio.

0:06:01 > 0:06:03Cos we have visions, you see,

0:06:03 > 0:06:05sitting at home and there's just you and who else?

0:06:05 > 0:06:09- And probably the weatherman. - The weatherman.- So what happens then?

0:06:09 > 0:06:12I mean, do you both put on paper hats and have a little party on your own?

0:06:12 > 0:06:14Well, there's a small chicken, a mince pie,

0:06:14 > 0:06:16one cracker and we fight over the hat!

0:06:16 > 0:06:19- And then little party games? - Oh, yes.

0:06:19 > 0:06:22Sardine, charade - yes, it's great fun.

0:06:23 > 0:06:25Being quite serious now, there's quite a crew of people

0:06:25 > 0:06:28- involved with doing the news, aren't there?- Yes.

0:06:28 > 0:06:32Your bit of Television Centre is like the Marie Celeste but our bit,

0:06:32 > 0:06:36- there's almost as many people there as every day of the week.- Really?

0:06:36 > 0:06:39- How many people does it take to do the news?- Ooh, gosh.

0:06:39 > 0:06:41Well over a hundred, I suppose, would be in the building,

0:06:41 > 0:06:43then you've got the crews

0:06:43 > 0:06:46and the reporters out around the country because the news doesn't

0:06:46 > 0:06:48stop and we all just pray that it won't be bad news.

0:06:48 > 0:06:51I've looked it up, and the weatherman tomorrow is John Kettley.

0:06:51 > 0:06:54- That's right.- So you and he will be having a party.

0:06:54 > 0:06:57- I don't think you know him, do you? - No!- Well, you'll know him tomorrow. - Does he wear his shoes?

0:06:57 > 0:07:01- Yeah...pardon?- Does he wear his shoes?- His shoes? - Or does he go round in his socks?

0:07:01 > 0:07:05I don't know. You'll have to ask him. You'll get to know all these things tomorrow.

0:07:05 > 0:07:07- This is your final year of doing the news, isn't it, Jan?- Yes.

0:07:07 > 0:07:09You're going to have a bit more time at home.

0:07:09 > 0:07:13- Well, I'm going to have my weekends at home with my little one.- Yeah.

0:07:13 > 0:07:15- How old is he now?- Five and a half. - Good.

0:07:15 > 0:07:17So, well, Jan, I just wanted you to come on here tonight

0:07:17 > 0:07:19so we can all thank you for putting your very lovely face

0:07:19 > 0:07:24on the television with the news for so long and come back on the screen with something else very soon.

0:07:24 > 0:07:27- Oh, I hope so. I hope so. - Meantime, Jan, may I give you this little present from us here

0:07:27 > 0:07:30and wish you the very, very best and thank you so much.

0:07:30 > 0:07:32Jan Leeming, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you.

0:07:32 > 0:07:36APPLAUSE

0:07:39 > 0:07:40Thank you. Thank you.

0:07:42 > 0:07:43Well, now.

0:07:43 > 0:07:46We've been talking about coming into people's homes over the Christmas.

0:07:46 > 0:07:49We're very privileged to be coming to many, many homes.

0:07:49 > 0:07:51So this is my way of thanking you.

0:07:53 > 0:08:00# You'd be so nice to come home to

0:08:00 > 0:08:07# You'd be so nice by the fire

0:08:07 > 0:08:11# While the breeze on high

0:08:11 > 0:08:13# Sang a lullaby

0:08:14 > 0:08:21# You'd be all that I could desire

0:08:21 > 0:08:27# Under stars chilled by the winter

0:08:27 > 0:08:34# And under an August moon burning above

0:08:34 > 0:08:42# You'd be so nice you'd be paradise

0:08:42 > 0:08:48# To come home to and love

0:08:51 > 0:08:59# It's very nice to go travelling to Paris, London or Rome

0:08:59 > 0:09:05# It's awfully nice to go travelling but it's so much nicer

0:09:05 > 0:09:09# Yes, it's so much nicer to come home

0:09:09 > 0:09:14# And it's very nice to be footloose

0:09:14 > 0:09:16# With just a toothbrush or comb

0:09:16 > 0:09:24# It's very nice to be footloose but your heart starts singing

0:09:24 > 0:09:28# When you're homeward winging across the phone

0:09:28 > 0:09:35# And you know your fate is where that old front gate is

0:09:35 > 0:09:42# All you contemplate is I'm back and I never will roam

0:09:42 > 0:09:46# It's awfully nice to go travelling

0:09:46 > 0:09:51# But it's oh, so nice to come home. #

0:09:54 > 0:09:55Bye-bye.

0:09:57 > 0:10:02# Under stars chilled by the winter

0:10:04 > 0:10:11# And under an August moon burning above

0:10:11 > 0:10:18# You'd be so nice, you'd be paradise

0:10:18 > 0:10:25# To come home to and love

0:10:28 > 0:10:33# Pass the slippers, burn my passport

0:10:35 > 0:10:39# No more packing, it's oh, so nice

0:10:39 > 0:10:44# To come home. #

0:10:44 > 0:10:45Thank you.

0:10:47 > 0:10:49Thank you very much.

0:10:58 > 0:11:00Well, I'd like you to meet a very remarkable young lady

0:11:00 > 0:11:03and a very delightful young lady, too. She's my first guest tonight.

0:11:03 > 0:11:07She's been spending her time travelling around. She's a percussionist.

0:11:07 > 0:11:09She plays all the percussion instruments, the marimba,

0:11:09 > 0:11:12the xylophone, vibraphone and all the other percussion things.

0:11:12 > 0:11:14And she does concerts around the world.

0:11:14 > 0:11:18Now, take into consideration the fact that she can't hear

0:11:18 > 0:11:21anything that she plays because she lost her hearing

0:11:21 > 0:11:25when she was a young lady, when she was 12 years of age and she's - as I say - quite remarkable.

0:11:25 > 0:11:27So please meet Evelyn Glennie. Thank you.

0:11:27 > 0:11:33APPLAUSE

0:11:37 > 0:11:40Now then, I've been talking about going home, Evelyn.

0:11:40 > 0:11:44- Are you going home?- Yes, I certainly am. My family are all up in Aberdeen.

0:11:44 > 0:11:46But I hope the M1 workmen let me pass!

0:11:46 > 0:11:51You'll just about catch them. You come from Aberdeen. You don't spend much time there now, do you?

0:11:51 > 0:11:55Not so much time. I'm just so busy playing that when I do go back,

0:11:55 > 0:11:59- I really appreciate just everything. - Good.- You know, it's great.

0:11:59 > 0:12:01- I love it. - So where have you been recently?

0:12:01 > 0:12:03You play in different parts of the world.

0:12:03 > 0:12:09Well, this year I went to Australia and I studied for a while in Japan

0:12:09 > 0:12:12and from there I went to America and then I spent a day in Madrid.

0:12:12 > 0:12:17- Oh, how nice.- But it was great. - Now, it's an amazing choice of instrument, I think,

0:12:17 > 0:12:20for a young lady like...you know, playing percussion instruments.

0:12:20 > 0:12:23Is there a big repertoire for things like the xylophone and the marimba?

0:12:23 > 0:12:27No, not considering the amount of instruments. There are over 600

0:12:27 > 0:12:31percussion instruments and hardly any repertoire written for them.

0:12:31 > 0:12:35- But um, really, it is gradually expanding.- Good.

0:12:35 > 0:12:40- And I'm not sure whether a lot of it is so pleasing to the ear.- Yeah?

0:12:40 > 0:12:43- But if you don't mind, I really would like to play peacefully tonight... - Good.

0:12:43 > 0:12:47..which is called Robbin' Harry by Laurence Innes

0:12:47 > 0:12:52- and I've actually arranged it for xylophone and marimba.- Lovely.

0:12:52 > 0:12:54- Can I play it for you? - You go and get yourself ready

0:12:54 > 0:12:57and I'll introduce you all over again and then give you a welcome.

0:12:57 > 0:13:01Right. Ladies and gentlemen, just relax and enjoy the special talents of Miss Evelyn Glennie.

0:13:01 > 0:13:02Thank you.

0:15:58 > 0:15:59Thank you.

0:16:03 > 0:16:04Thank you, Evelyn.

0:16:04 > 0:16:06You'll hear Evelyn play again later on in the show.

0:16:06 > 0:16:10Now, you got this new xylophone lately, didn't you? Quite recently.

0:16:10 > 0:16:12- Really, it's an early Christmas present.- How lovely.

0:16:12 > 0:16:13I'm glad you said that

0:16:13 > 0:16:15because we were talking about big Christmas presents.

0:16:15 > 0:16:18I've had the most fantastic Christmas present of my life.

0:16:18 > 0:16:20I wasn't going to tell you what it was,

0:16:20 > 0:16:21I was giving Evilyn a few clues.

0:16:21 > 0:16:23- Evelyn!- Evelyn!

0:16:23 > 0:16:24I've done it again!

0:16:26 > 0:16:27What is this?

0:16:30 > 0:16:31- A corkscrew?- A corkscrew!

0:16:31 > 0:16:33No, look. Here's another clue.

0:16:34 > 0:16:36- A saw?- Oh, come on...

0:16:37 > 0:16:40It's very big, it's green and you knock a white ball up and down it.

0:16:42 > 0:16:44You haven't been given your own golf course?

0:16:44 > 0:16:45LAUGHTER

0:16:45 > 0:16:48I have been given... I have been given a snooker table for Christmas.

0:16:48 > 0:16:50And I'm very privileged to have a friend

0:16:50 > 0:16:52who plays the game quite well.

0:16:52 > 0:16:54And he came along to rehearsals last night and we had a great treat.

0:16:54 > 0:16:57So, ladies and gentlemen, will you please welcome

0:16:57 > 0:17:00the former world snooker champion, Mr Dennis Taylor. Thank you!

0:17:00 > 0:17:02APPLAUSE

0:17:14 > 0:17:16- Thank you very much.- Thank you.

0:17:16 > 0:17:17It's a pleasure to have you on

0:17:17 > 0:17:19as a very special guest for Christmas, Dennis.

0:17:19 > 0:17:20Lovely to be here, Val.

0:17:20 > 0:17:23I've been such a great fan of yours for a long, long time.

0:17:23 > 0:17:25I haven't missed many of your shows.

0:17:25 > 0:17:26Well, I missed a few in the early days.

0:17:26 > 0:17:28Oh, well, you don't go back that far.

0:17:28 > 0:17:31But this is one of my presents, as I mentioned, for Christmas.

0:17:31 > 0:17:32A very special present.

0:17:32 > 0:17:34I thought, now, what more could I ask than to ask

0:17:34 > 0:17:37if you'd kindly come along for a few minutes and give me a few tips.

0:17:37 > 0:17:39So, tell me what to do exactly.

0:17:39 > 0:17:41Well, I've watched you and you're pretty good.

0:17:41 > 0:17:42So what I decided to do was, I thought,

0:17:42 > 0:17:44rather than me do all the trick shots,

0:17:44 > 0:17:46let's see if you can play a few of the trick shots.

0:17:46 > 0:17:48I've got every confidence in you.

0:17:48 > 0:17:50So we'll work out a few little shots here for you to do.

0:17:50 > 0:17:51A few trick shots.

0:17:52 > 0:17:54So we're going to start with a...

0:17:54 > 0:17:57- Are you going to show me what to do? - Come round this side, Val.- Yeah.

0:17:58 > 0:18:01So what am I... This goes in over there, does it?

0:18:01 > 0:18:02No, that doesn't go in here.

0:18:02 > 0:18:04In fact, believe it or not, you're going to pot the black,

0:18:04 > 0:18:08- which is tied up on the top cushion here, into the corner pocket.- I am?

0:18:08 > 0:18:12- It looks impossible, but I have every confidence in you.- Bless your heart.

0:18:12 > 0:18:14- Thank you.- This is it...

0:18:17 > 0:18:18CHEERING AND APPLAUSE

0:18:23 > 0:18:24Thank you very much.

0:18:26 > 0:18:27Thank you.

0:18:27 > 0:18:30Well, now you've managed to pot the black there.

0:18:30 > 0:18:33Now we're going to go on to something even more difficult.

0:18:33 > 0:18:35We're going to see if we can get you to pot three balls this time.

0:18:35 > 0:18:38- Is this the one you were showing me today?- That's right.

0:18:38 > 0:18:39Right.

0:18:40 > 0:18:43- I've got to pot, what, the blue? - The blue, the pink and the black.

0:18:43 > 0:18:44Yeah.

0:18:45 > 0:18:48So we put the pink on its spot.

0:18:48 > 0:18:50And the black on the blue spot.

0:18:52 > 0:18:55And if we just get... Could you just pass us the cue, Val? Thanks.

0:18:55 > 0:18:58- Which side do you want me to do it from?- Do it from this side here.

0:18:58 > 0:18:59Right.

0:18:59 > 0:19:02So you've got to pot the blue, the pink and the black.

0:19:03 > 0:19:07Only, you've got to pot them without moving from the one position.

0:19:07 > 0:19:10- From here?- So you've got to pot all three balls from this position.

0:19:12 > 0:19:13Right...

0:19:15 > 0:19:17- Well, there goes the blue. - There goes the blue.

0:19:17 > 0:19:18Now, give him a chance, here we go.

0:19:18 > 0:19:19Watch this...

0:19:20 > 0:19:21There goes the pink.

0:19:21 > 0:19:23And there goes the black.

0:19:34 > 0:19:35When we were over in Japan, as I said,

0:19:35 > 0:19:38they'd never, ever seen snooker before.

0:19:38 > 0:19:39In fact, we'll go to this top pocket.

0:19:39 > 0:19:42They'd never, ever seen snooker before.

0:19:42 > 0:19:44And I put a black over the pocket, and I said...

0:19:45 > 0:19:46Can I just borrow your cue, Val?

0:19:46 > 0:19:49I said to one of the fellows, "The cues are on the table."

0:19:49 > 0:19:51I just says, "Would you see if you can get the black

0:19:51 > 0:19:52"into the bottom pocket?"

0:19:52 > 0:19:55So the white was there. He walked up to the table.

0:19:55 > 0:19:58He obviously didn't know how to use the cues, so he picked them up...

0:19:58 > 0:20:00He must have thought they were large chopsticks.

0:20:00 > 0:20:02And he's gone like this...

0:20:02 > 0:20:03And it was amazing.

0:20:03 > 0:20:06He just picked the white up on the two cues like this,

0:20:06 > 0:20:08and just suddenly potted the black.

0:20:08 > 0:20:09There we are!

0:20:15 > 0:20:17Now, what is the most... Seriously now.

0:20:17 > 0:20:19What is the most difficult of these shots that you've set up,

0:20:19 > 0:20:21these trick shots to do?

0:20:21 > 0:20:23Well, probably, I think the most difficult shot

0:20:23 > 0:20:25is the one the great Joe Davis,

0:20:25 > 0:20:27the late and great Joe Davis, made famous.

0:20:27 > 0:20:29It was called the machine-gun shot.

0:20:29 > 0:20:31He used to do that with six colours.

0:20:31 > 0:20:34Now, I've done it with eight reds on television.

0:20:34 > 0:20:36So we might have a go at a little record

0:20:36 > 0:20:39to see if we can get nine reds.

0:20:39 > 0:20:42And it's never been done on television in this country before.

0:20:42 > 0:20:43So we'll have a little go at that, eh?

0:20:43 > 0:20:45Well, you're going to give me a record

0:20:45 > 0:20:46on my show, are you, for Christmas?

0:20:46 > 0:20:48- Wonderful. Wonderful. - Well, we'll try. We'll try.

0:20:48 > 0:20:51It just takes a few seconds to set up this one.

0:20:53 > 0:20:56- Come on now, Dennis, concentrate. - Five, six, seven, eight...

0:20:56 > 0:20:57We need another red.

0:20:57 > 0:20:58Here we go.

0:21:23 > 0:21:24Wonderful!

0:21:24 > 0:21:27Now, we're going to finish off with a shot that a lot of people

0:21:27 > 0:21:29have seen me playing on the television.

0:21:29 > 0:21:34In fact, there was about 14 or 15 million watched this one.

0:21:34 > 0:21:36And I'm going to be very, very brave tonight

0:21:36 > 0:21:39and let Val finish off with this trick shot.

0:21:39 > 0:21:40A very special one.

0:21:41 > 0:21:43- Right, you... - Right, well, I climb up here.

0:21:43 > 0:21:44Yeah.

0:21:44 > 0:21:46I must be crazy doing this!

0:21:49 > 0:21:50Well, if I damage you...

0:21:52 > 0:21:54Listen, I'd better take these glasses off.

0:21:54 > 0:21:56Because I'll need them again.

0:21:56 > 0:21:57OK?

0:21:59 > 0:22:01Don't move, whatever you do, Dennis.

0:22:02 > 0:22:04And don't laugh.

0:22:05 > 0:22:07Whatever you do, don't giggle.

0:22:08 > 0:22:09You did this with a...

0:22:09 > 0:22:13You did this with a beautiful girl on television, didn't you?

0:22:13 > 0:22:15Yeah, well, what I said was, "You've got to be very quiet

0:22:15 > 0:22:17"because the last time I played this shot,

0:22:17 > 0:22:19"the young lady swallowed the black!"

0:22:20 > 0:22:22And you should have seen the shot I played to get the black out again!

0:22:25 > 0:22:26OK.

0:22:27 > 0:22:29Now then...

0:22:29 > 0:22:30If this goes in the hole, Dennis,

0:22:30 > 0:22:32there will be a standing ovation, I can tell you.

0:22:34 > 0:22:35Right...

0:22:47 > 0:22:48Oh, thank you.

0:22:51 > 0:22:54Well... What a treat, Dennis. Thank you very, very much indeed.

0:22:54 > 0:22:57I had every confidence in you. I knew you were going to do it.

0:22:57 > 0:23:00It's been lovely. You couldn't have given me a nicer Christmas present.

0:23:00 > 0:23:02And may I wish you and your family a very, very merry Christmas?

0:23:02 > 0:23:05Thanks very much, Val. The same to you and your family.

0:23:05 > 0:23:07Ladies and gentlemen, Mr Dennis Taylor. Thank you!

0:23:14 > 0:23:15Thank you very much.

0:23:18 > 0:23:21Thank you, Dennis Taylor. As I said there, it was quite a treat for me.

0:23:21 > 0:23:22That was a delight.

0:23:22 > 0:23:23Well, you know it's a long way...

0:23:23 > 0:23:26I've been sort of suggesting I got a snooker table for Christmas.

0:23:26 > 0:23:29Nowadays, the presents people get are quite alarming, really.

0:23:29 > 0:23:31The things we give to our children and so on.

0:23:31 > 0:23:32I can remember many, many years ago,

0:23:32 > 0:23:35I used to sing a simple little children's song about a toy

0:23:35 > 0:23:37that went splat when it moved and tock.

0:23:37 > 0:23:38Do you remember that one? You do.

0:23:38 > 0:23:40Well, tonight, if I may, ladies and gentlemen,

0:23:40 > 0:23:42I'd like to do that little song for old times' sake.

0:23:42 > 0:23:46Now, because I did it on the first ever Christmas show I did on BBC television.

0:23:46 > 0:23:50Now, when we recorded that song way back in the early '60s,

0:23:50 > 0:23:52we had sound effects on it which were very good

0:23:52 > 0:23:53and made all the difference.

0:23:53 > 0:23:55We haven't got them tonight.

0:23:55 > 0:23:57So I'd be grateful if the audience in the studio would do them for me.

0:23:57 > 0:24:00They're very simple. You don't have to worry.

0:24:00 > 0:24:03First of all, will all of you here simply go splat, like that.

0:24:03 > 0:24:04AUDIENCE CHUCKLES

0:24:07 > 0:24:10Do be careful of the people in front of you when you do that!

0:24:10 > 0:24:13I will count three and I want you all to go splat. Ready?

0:24:13 > 0:24:14One, two, three...

0:24:14 > 0:24:15AUDIENCE: Splat!

0:24:15 > 0:24:16Right...

0:24:16 > 0:24:19Well, just if I may, would you just do the three of them for me

0:24:19 > 0:24:20so you don't get them mixed up.

0:24:20 > 0:24:24I'll go one, two, three and you go splat, tock, whir. Like that.

0:24:24 > 0:24:26Ready? One, two, three...

0:24:26 > 0:24:28AUDIENCE: Splat, tock, whir.

0:24:30 > 0:24:33OK... Now, here's the song. The Marvellous Toy.

0:24:33 > 0:24:35A one, a two, a three...

0:24:45 > 0:24:48# When I was just a wee little lad

0:24:48 > 0:24:49# Full of health and joy

0:24:50 > 0:24:53# My father homeward came one day

0:24:53 > 0:24:55# And gave to me a toy

0:24:55 > 0:24:58# A wonder to behold it was

0:24:58 > 0:25:00# With many colours bright

0:25:00 > 0:25:03# And the moment I laid eyes on it

0:25:03 > 0:25:05# It became my heart's delight

0:25:05 > 0:25:06Now!

0:25:06 > 0:25:08# Because it went splat when it moved

0:25:08 > 0:25:09# And tock when it stopped

0:25:09 > 0:25:11# And whir when it stood still

0:25:12 > 0:25:16# I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will... #

0:25:18 > 0:25:21Don't lose interest now. We've got four verses to go.

0:25:23 > 0:25:25# Now the first time that I picked it up

0:25:26 > 0:25:28# I had a big surprise

0:25:29 > 0:25:31# Right at the bottom were two big buttons

0:25:31 > 0:25:33# That looked like big green eyes

0:25:34 > 0:25:37# I first pushed one then the other

0:25:37 > 0:25:39# Then I twisted its lid

0:25:39 > 0:25:42# And when I put it down again

0:25:42 > 0:25:44# Well, here is what it did

0:25:44 > 0:25:46# It went splat when it moved

0:25:46 > 0:25:47# And tock when it stopped

0:25:47 > 0:25:49# And whir when it stood still

0:25:50 > 0:25:52# I never knew just what it was

0:25:52 > 0:25:54# And I guess I never will... #

0:25:56 > 0:25:57Do you feel daft?

0:25:57 > 0:25:58You look daft!

0:25:59 > 0:26:01Third verse.

0:26:02 > 0:26:05# It first marched left and then marched right

0:26:05 > 0:26:07# Then marched under the chair

0:26:07 > 0:26:10# And when I looked where it had gone

0:26:10 > 0:26:12# It wasn't even there

0:26:12 > 0:26:15# I started to cry my daddy laughed

0:26:15 > 0:26:17# He knew just what I'd find

0:26:17 > 0:26:19# When I turned around

0:26:19 > 0:26:22# My marvellous toy was chugging from behind

0:26:22 > 0:26:24# And it went splat when it moved

0:26:24 > 0:26:26# And tock when it stopped

0:26:26 > 0:26:28# And whir when it stood still

0:26:28 > 0:26:31# I never knew just what it was

0:26:31 > 0:26:33# And I guess I never will... #

0:26:34 > 0:26:36Last verse. Give it everything you've got now.

0:26:37 > 0:26:39If you've got anything left.

0:26:40 > 0:26:43# Well, the years have gone by too quickly it seems

0:26:43 > 0:26:44# My daughter brings me joy

0:26:45 > 0:26:48# And yesterday I gave to her

0:26:48 > 0:26:50# That marvellous little toy

0:26:50 > 0:26:54# Her eyes nearly popped right out of her head

0:26:54 > 0:26:56# She gave a squeal of glee

0:26:56 > 0:26:58# Neither one of us knows just what it is

0:26:58 > 0:27:01# But she loves it just like me

0:27:01 > 0:27:02# Because it goes splat when it moves

0:27:02 > 0:27:04# And tock when it stops

0:27:04 > 0:27:06# And whir when it's stood still

0:27:07 > 0:27:11# I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will... #

0:27:11 > 0:27:12Everybody!

0:27:12 > 0:27:17# I never knew just what it was and I guess I never will. #

0:27:18 > 0:27:20APPLAUSE

0:27:26 > 0:27:28Thank you.

0:27:30 > 0:27:33Thank you very much. Thank you, ladies and gentlemen.

0:27:33 > 0:27:36When we were doing this show and we were talking about being at home for Christmas,

0:27:36 > 0:27:39we were trying to think of songs that would sort of suit the situation.

0:27:39 > 0:27:40And we came across a song

0:27:40 > 0:27:43which is probably one of the oldest songs about home.

0:27:43 > 0:27:46In fact, it's called Bless This House.

0:27:46 > 0:27:48Very suitable at this time of the year.

0:27:48 > 0:27:50And I'm joined on this once again by Evelyn Glennie.

0:27:50 > 0:27:51Thank you.

0:28:23 > 0:28:28# Bless this house, O Lord, we pray

0:28:29 > 0:28:33# Make it safe by night and day

0:28:35 > 0:28:39# Bless the walls so firm and stout

0:28:41 > 0:28:45# Keeping want and trouble out

0:28:47 > 0:28:51# Bless the roof and chimneys tall

0:28:52 > 0:28:58# Let Thy peace reign overall

0:28:59 > 0:29:04# Bless the door that it may prove

0:29:04 > 0:29:10# Ever open to joy and love

0:29:35 > 0:29:40# Bless the windows shining bright

0:29:41 > 0:29:46# Letting in God's heavenly light

0:29:47 > 0:29:51# Bless the hearth ablazing there

0:29:52 > 0:29:58# With smoke ascending like a prayer

0:29:59 > 0:30:04# Bless the people here within

0:30:05 > 0:30:10# Make them pure and free from sin

0:30:11 > 0:30:16# Bless us all that we may be

0:30:17 > 0:30:22# Fit, O Lord, to dwell with Thee

0:30:23 > 0:30:29# Bless us all that we one day

0:30:30 > 0:30:42# May dwell, O Lord, with Thee. #

0:31:23 > 0:31:24Thank you.

0:31:24 > 0:31:26Thank you, Evelyn, very much.

0:31:26 > 0:31:29Incidentally, I've got a little present for you. That's for you.

0:32:14 > 0:32:19# A dove made his home there for he couldn't know

0:32:19 > 0:32:22# That there in a manger a child would be born

0:34:30 > 0:34:34# Of the child that brought happiness and joy to the earth

0:34:39 > 0:34:43# And soon the dawn broke and the birds in the trees

0:34:43 > 0:34:47# Burst out into song and the swallows with ease

0:34:47 > 0:34:51# Flew close to that manger with breathtaking flight

0:34:51 > 0:34:55# To view the babe lying there, the world's joy and light

0:34:55 > 0:34:56# Soar and soar
