0:01:26 > 0:01:29It made its way to England 30 years later

0:01:29 > 0:01:33and has been a crowd puller here and everywhere ever since.

0:01:34 > 0:01:36It's musically brilliant

0:01:36 > 0:01:39and it's a powerful reflection of the human condition.

0:01:40 > 0:01:44It's a story about a man who has seduced 2,065 women.

0:01:44 > 0:01:46But on the morning of one of his conquests

0:01:46 > 0:01:49he gets stopped by the father of this woman he just seduced

0:01:49 > 0:01:51and in the ensuing fight he kills him.

0:01:51 > 0:01:53And from then on it's all downhill.

0:01:57 > 0:02:01Donna Anna is part of the nobility and her father decided

0:02:01 > 0:02:03she should marry Don Ottavio.

0:02:03 > 0:02:07And Don Ottavio runs in and she realises that she is not able

0:02:07 > 0:02:09to say what happened.

0:02:09 > 0:02:10So she starts lying

0:02:10 > 0:02:14and she continues lying to Don Ottavio all through the piece.

0:02:16 > 0:02:21Donna Elvira is the official wife of Don Giovanni.

0:02:21 > 0:02:26He married her in Burgos a few days ago and just left her.

0:02:26 > 0:02:31So she's running after him and she's looking for him

0:02:31 > 0:02:34and she's really, really in love with him

0:02:34 > 0:02:40and she thought he was honest with her but obviously he is just a liar.

0:02:40 > 0:02:42I'm playing Zerlina, who is a peasant girl.

0:02:42 > 0:02:46And often she's portrayed as quite naive, a bit innocent

0:02:46 > 0:02:48and somebody who's seduced by the don.

0:02:48 > 0:02:51But in this production she's a bit more ambitious.

0:02:51 > 0:02:54She wants to better herself and she sees the don as maybe

0:02:54 > 0:02:55a way of doing that.

0:02:56 > 0:02:59The relationship between Leporello

0:02:59 > 0:03:05and Don Giovanni in this production is not exactly servant and boss.

0:03:08 > 0:03:10It's basically of two friends.

0:03:11 > 0:03:13Leporello is his conscience.

0:03:13 > 0:03:14Both the little devil on his shoulder

0:03:14 > 0:03:17and the little angel on his shoulder talking in his ears.

0:03:17 > 0:03:21It's, in a way, some of the inner dialogues that Don Giovanni doesn't have otherwise,

0:03:21 > 0:03:23he has them with Leporello.

0:03:25 > 0:03:30We are not meeting Don Giovanni when he tries to seduce the 30th girl.

0:03:30 > 0:03:34He is trying to seduce the 2,000 and some hundred.

0:03:34 > 0:03:37So, you know, he's the loser. It's the last time.

0:03:37 > 0:03:41He will not have any girl that day.

0:03:42 > 0:03:47Don Giovanni is the guy who gives everything to every woman.

0:03:47 > 0:03:48Everything she wants.

0:03:50 > 0:03:54And he learned it. He's an artist.

0:03:54 > 0:03:58He's seeing the women as an art.

0:03:59 > 0:04:02What we see on the walls in this production is his quick drawings.

0:04:30 > 0:04:35We have to fix where I'm coming from because I open one door

0:04:35 > 0:04:37and then I open the second door.

0:04:37 > 0:04:40I opened the second door and it was a third door.

0:04:40 > 0:04:43It's both a tragedy and a comedy, a farce that needs to move fast

0:04:47 > 0:04:51We set it in Victorian times, where they're all completely buttoned up.

0:05:07 > 0:05:10In the early stages Zerlina is determined not to be that easy.
