0:00:13 > 0:00:14NYJO, as it's known,
0:00:14 > 0:00:18was founded in 1965 and has been a real springboard in the careers
0:00:18 > 0:00:22of some great British jazz musicians, including the trumpeter Guy Barker
0:00:22 > 0:00:26and the much missed singer-songwriter Amy Whitehouse.

0:01:09 > 0:01:12Well, the National youth Jazz Orchestra really are

0:01:28 > 0:01:31Rob, what do you get out of being a member of NYJO?
0:01:31 > 0:01:33Well, I've been a member of the band for a number of years now
0:01:33 > 0:01:37and I've gained so much from the musical director,
0:01:37 > 0:01:40Mark Armstrong, who has really helped me as a soloist
0:01:40 > 0:01:43as well as developing several areas of my personal musicianship.
0:01:43 > 0:01:46- You were the baby of the band for a long time.- Yes, I was.
0:01:46 > 0:01:49I've been in the band for nearly three years now and I'm only 18, so
0:01:49 > 0:01:53I've received quite a lot of hassle since I first joined the band, yeah.
0:01:53 > 0:01:59Anna, we're getting a great range of repertoire spanning, you know, 60 years of jazz tonight.

0:02:55 > 0:03:02I go quite often as an audience member and it's exciting enough then.
0:03:02 > 0:03:06Going as a performer, I can only assume, is going to top that.
0:03:06 > 0:03:09Well, that audience is crying out for you, so we should let you go.
