0:15:49 > 0:15:51It's the scale. It's the scale.

0:15:51 > 0:15:54We did have a small string section back in the day, so we've

0:15:54 > 0:15:56kind of expanded through the years.

0:15:56 > 0:16:00It's like ABC on steroids out there now in 2016.

0:17:24 > 0:17:27# I don't know the answer to that question

0:17:27 > 0:17:31# Where's the look? If I knew I would tell you

0:17:31 > 0:17:35# What's the look? Look for your information

0:17:35 > 0:17:39# For the one thing, the one thing we can find

0:17:39 > 0:17:40# What's that?

0:17:40 > 0:17:48# That's the look, that's the look, the look of love

0:18:28 > 0:18:32# If you judge a book by the cover

0:18:32 > 0:18:36# Then you judge the look by the lover

0:18:36 > 0:18:40# I hope you'll soon recover

0:18:40 > 0:18:45# Me I go from one extreme to another

0:18:45 > 0:18:48# And all my friends still ask me

0:18:48 > 0:18:52# Even in Hyde Park they ask me

0:18:52 > 0:18:56# They say Martin, maybe one day you'll find true love

0:18:56 > 0:18:59# And I say maybe

0:19:01 > 0:19:04# That's the look that's the look, sisters and brothers

0:19:56 > 0:19:58You are fabulous.

0:19:59 > 0:20:02This year Michael Ball has been given the daunting task

0:20:02 > 0:20:05of hosting the show in Hyde Park following the passing of

0:20:05 > 0:20:08much-loved legendary broadcaster Sir Terry Wogan,

0:20:08 > 0:20:12who presented Proms In The Park here for 19 years.

0:20:12 > 0:20:15I met up with Michael when he paid tribute to his friend.

0:20:15 > 0:20:19It's a really bittersweet event for me because it's so associated

0:20:19 > 0:20:23with Sir Terry Wogan who I have known throughout my entire career.

0:20:23 > 0:20:26He was a great mate, a great champion of mine,

0:20:26 > 0:20:30so I'm thrilled and honoured to be doing that but I wish

0:20:30 > 0:20:33he was still here to do it because this and Children In Need

0:20:33 > 0:20:37were the big dates in his calendar and no-one does it better.

0:20:37 > 0:20:38He was never nervous,

0:20:38 > 0:20:43he had this sort of calm air about him so he would make

0:20:43 > 0:20:46everyone else feel calm, because it's a really difficult gig.

0:20:46 > 0:20:48I heard that there was a really lovely story

0:20:48 > 0:20:50about how he actually calmed you down once.

0:20:50 > 0:20:53Yeah, his very first Proms 19 years ago,

0:20:53 > 0:20:58and I was on that very first Prom and I was very nervous in the wings.

0:20:58 > 0:21:03And he came up to me and he went, "Ah, young Ball,

0:21:03 > 0:21:05"I've got only one piece of advice for you...

0:21:05 > 0:21:07"Don't bugger it up, and if you do,

0:21:07 > 0:21:10"I'll be here clinging to the wreckage. On you go."

0:21:10 > 0:21:11That's brilliant.

0:21:11 > 0:21:13You should let that same advice resonate today.

0:21:13 > 0:21:16Absolutely, that's exactly what I'm going to do.

0:21:18 > 0:21:22Now, as you know this year marks the centenary of

0:21:22 > 0:21:25the children's author Roald Dahl,

0:21:25 > 0:21:29the man who fired our imagination with stories like

0:21:29 > 0:21:32Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, James And The Giant Peach

0:21:32 > 0:21:35and of course The BFG.

0:21:35 > 0:21:38And then of course there's Matilda, and our next guest

0:21:38 > 0:21:44is the creative force behind the Royal Shakespeare Company's long-running,

0:21:44 > 0:21:49multi-award-winning international sensation, Matilda The Musical.

0:21:49 > 0:21:54So please give a jumpsquiffing, whoopsy-splunkers welcome to

0:21:54 > 0:22:00the completely unique and utterly, utterly brilliant Mr Tim Minchin.

0:22:05 > 0:22:07Fabulous Tim Minchin.

0:22:17 > 0:22:21It's a huge honour to be here, thank you for having me.

0:22:21 > 0:22:23That's Clara and Zaris-Angel.

0:22:26 > 0:22:31# When I grow up

0:22:31 > 0:22:35# I will be tall enough to reach the branches

0:22:35 > 0:22:38# That you have to reach to climb the trees

0:22:38 > 0:22:42# You get to climb when you're grown up

0:22:45 > 0:22:49# And when I grow up

0:22:49 > 0:22:53# I will be smart enough to answer all

0:22:53 > 0:22:56# The questions that you need to know

0:22:56 > 0:23:00# The answers to when you're a grown up

0:23:44 > 0:23:48# Around with you when you're a grown-up

0:23:51 > 0:23:54# And when I grow up, when I grow up

0:23:54 > 0:23:56# When I grow up

0:23:56 > 0:23:59# I will be brave enough to fight the creatures

0:23:59 > 0:24:03# That you have to fight beneath the bed

0:24:03 > 0:24:06# Each night to be a grown-up

0:24:08 > 0:24:09# And when I grow up

0:24:17 > 0:24:19# That mums don't think are fun

0:24:19 > 0:24:22# And I will wake up

0:24:22 > 0:24:25# When the sun comes up and I

0:25:41 > 0:25:45Tim Minchin with Clara Read and Zaris-Angel Hator,

0:25:45 > 0:25:48two of the young actresses currently sharing the role of Matilda

0:25:48 > 0:25:50in the West End.

0:25:53 > 0:25:57Our next guest here in Colwyn Bay is the gorgeous Amy Wadge.

0:25:57 > 0:26:01I could take at least a week to list her numerous collaborations

0:26:01 > 0:26:06including a rather successful one with a certain Mr Ed Sheeran.

0:26:06 > 0:26:10Tonight though, she's engaging in a slightly different collaboration

0:26:10 > 0:26:13with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales with a specially edited

0:26:13 > 0:26:16version of that global hit written with Ed.

0:26:16 > 0:26:17What am I talking about?

0:26:17 > 0:26:19Thinking Out Loud.

0:26:20 > 0:26:25# When your legs don't work like they used to before

0:26:25 > 0:26:31# And I can't sweep you off of your feet

0:26:31 > 0:26:36# Will your mouth still remember the taste of my love

0:26:36 > 0:26:39# Will your eyes still smile from your cheeks

0:26:39 > 0:26:46# Well, darling I will be loving you till we're 70

0:26:49 > 0:26:56# And honey my heart could still fall as hard at 23

0:26:58 > 0:27:05# And I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways

0:27:05 > 0:27:10# Maybe just the touch of a hand

0:27:10 > 0:27:16# Well, me, I fall in love with you every single day

0:27:16 > 0:27:20# And I just wanna tell you I am

0:27:20 > 0:27:24# So honey now

0:27:24 > 0:27:29# Take me into your loving arms

0:27:29 > 0:27:35# Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars

0:27:35 > 0:27:38# Place your head on my beating heart

0:27:38 > 0:27:41# I'm thinking out loud

0:27:41 > 0:27:46# Maybe we found love right where we are

0:27:48 > 0:27:52# When my hair's all but gone and my memory fades

0:27:52 > 0:27:56# And this crowd don't remember my name

0:27:57 > 0:28:03# When my hands don't play the strings the same way, mm

0:28:03 > 0:28:07# I know you will still love me the same

0:28:07 > 0:28:13# Cos honey your soul can never grow old, it's evergreen

0:28:17 > 0:28:24# Darling, your smile's forever in my mind and memory

0:28:25 > 0:28:33# I'm thinking 'bout how people fall in love in mysterious ways

0:28:33 > 0:28:36# Maybe it's all part of a plan

0:28:38 > 0:28:43# I'll just keep on making the same mistakes

0:28:43 > 0:28:48# Hoping that you'll understand

0:28:48 > 0:28:52# But baby now

0:28:52 > 0:28:54# Take me into your loving arms

0:28:56 > 0:29:00# Kiss me under the light of a thousand stars

0:29:00 > 0:29:05# Place your head on my beating heart

0:29:05 > 0:29:08# I'm thinking out loud

0:29:08 > 0:29:19# That maybe we found love right where we are, oh

0:29:19 > 0:29:23# That maybe we found love right where we are. #

0:29:44 > 0:29:46Thank you so much.

0:29:46 > 0:29:49The beautiful Amy Wadge with Thinking Out Loud,

0:29:49 > 0:29:53the international hit she co-wrote with Ed Sheeran.

0:29:53 > 0:29:54Still to come...

0:29:59 > 0:30:02We join forces with Prommers at the Royal Albert Hall

0:30:02 > 0:30:05for the now-traditional Last Night sing-along.

0:30:16 > 0:30:20Soprano Lesley Garrett in Belfast.

0:30:23 > 0:30:26And, in Hyde Park, tonight's headliners

0:30:26 > 0:30:29Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons help us relive

0:30:29 > 0:30:33the sensational sounds of the '60s and '70s.

0:30:43 > 0:30:44Thank you so much.

0:30:44 > 0:30:47Well, one tradition of BBC Proms in the Park

0:30:47 > 0:30:48which I particularly like

0:30:48 > 0:30:52is that of shining a spotlight on new and emerging talent.

0:30:52 > 0:30:56And this year we are so thrilled here in Colwyn Bay

0:30:56 > 0:31:01to be showcasing rising star, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason,

0:31:01 > 0:31:04winner of BBC Young Musician 2016.

0:31:04 > 0:31:08And I got a chance to meet him earlier on. Cheers.

0:31:12 > 0:31:16Since you won Young Musician, it's been a bit of a whirlwind time, hasn't it?

0:31:16 > 0:31:20So what have you been up to and what do you expect from tonight?

0:31:20 > 0:31:23Yeah, it's been very busy.

0:31:23 > 0:31:25I think one of my highlights was playing in Festival Hall

0:31:25 > 0:31:27with the Chineke Orchestra

0:31:27 > 0:31:30and more concerts like that will hopefully come. And I think

0:31:30 > 0:31:34tonight it's definitely another one of those - it's going to be

0:31:34 > 0:31:35another one of those highlights.

0:31:35 > 0:31:39Is there something different about playing, musically... Is there

0:31:39 > 0:31:42something different about playing in an outside venue as opposed

0:31:42 > 0:31:45to somewhere more rarefied like the Cadogan Hall or something like that?

0:31:45 > 0:31:49The main difference for me as a performer is the acoustic.

0:31:49 > 0:31:52In a concert hall you get the kind of feedback from the hall

0:31:52 > 0:31:55of your sound whereas outside it kind of gets lost in the wind

0:31:55 > 0:31:58and the mics pick it up and it sounds good out in the audience

0:31:58 > 0:32:01but to me I imagine it's quite different.

0:32:01 > 0:32:05So I think that's going to be quite difficult to get used to.

0:32:05 > 0:32:08Other than that, I think it's still a lovely performance.

0:32:08 > 0:32:09It should be great.

0:36:17 > 0:36:21Sheku Kanneh-Mason there, a rare and brilliant talent.

0:36:21 > 0:36:24Now, throughout the summer, BBC Music's Get Playing initiative

0:36:24 > 0:36:26has been encouraging you to pick up an instrument even if

0:36:26 > 0:36:29you've never done it before, and join our virtual orchestra.

0:36:29 > 0:36:32Well, more than 1,200 of you did, including some famous faces.

0:36:32 > 0:36:34Let's see and hear how they got on.

0:36:48 > 0:36:52First, here's your "A" to tune to.

0:36:53 > 0:36:57INSTRUMENTS TUNING

0:37:08 > 0:37:10Excellent.

0:37:10 > 0:37:11Everybody ready now?

0:37:11 > 0:37:13Here we go.

0:37:14 > 0:37:18MUSIC: Carmen by Georges Bizet

0:39:52 > 0:39:53Fabulous.

0:39:53 > 0:39:55The virtual orchestra led there by internationally

0:39:55 > 0:39:58acclaimed conductor and Proms regular Marin Alsop.

0:39:58 > 0:40:02Great to see so many people inspired to get playing.

0:40:02 > 0:40:05Well, now for somebody who is not only incredibly lovely

0:40:05 > 0:40:07but also knows a thing or two about performing

0:40:07 > 0:40:08on the international stage.

0:40:08 > 0:40:11I am of course speaking about Tony Hadley,

0:40:11 > 0:40:15lead singer with New Romantic pop pioneers Spandau Ballet

0:40:15 > 0:40:18as well as being a solo artist in his own right.

0:40:18 > 0:40:23And, lucky me, I got a chance to meet up with him earlier on.

0:40:23 > 0:40:25You clearly get a buzz performing to the crowds.

0:40:25 > 0:40:27Do you ever get fed up with it?

0:40:27 > 0:40:31I'm doing this still after 36 years and I can't believe it

0:40:31 > 0:40:33and I'm still loving it and still enjoying it.

0:40:33 > 0:40:35People say, "Do you get bored with the songs?"

0:40:35 > 0:40:37Gold, Through The Barricades, whatever it is.

0:40:37 > 0:40:39And I say, "No, because every audience is different."

0:40:39 > 0:40:44And then sometimes you see people react, like if you do True,

0:40:44 > 0:40:48you see a couple and they maybe got married 25 years ago and they're like, "I love you."

0:40:48 > 0:40:50And it all gets a bit teary.

0:40:50 > 0:40:52So it's nice.

0:40:52 > 0:40:55And Gold of course has become the sort of, "All right, Tone."

0:40:55 > 0:40:59Every taxi driver down in London is like, "All right, Tone. Gold!"

0:40:59 > 0:41:01"All right, son, yeah, lovely."

0:41:01 > 0:41:03And that's what it is like so it's kind of cool.

0:41:03 > 0:41:06But you still have a joy about it, you still feel really fresh?

0:41:06 > 0:41:07Do you think that's what connects?

0:41:07 > 0:41:11I'm always trying to fine tune and resting on your laurels

0:41:11 > 0:41:14is never a good thing and I'm always rediscovering things about

0:41:14 > 0:41:17my voice and stuff like that so you just want to get better

0:41:17 > 0:41:21and better, whatever you do, you want to be the best that you can be.

0:41:31 > 0:41:38# Mother doesn't know where love has gone

0:41:38 > 0:41:46# She says it must be youth that keeps us feeling strong

0:41:46 > 0:41:53# I see it in her face that's turned to ice

0:41:53 > 0:42:01# And when she smiles she shows the lines of sacrifice

0:42:01 > 0:42:06# And now I know what they're saying

0:42:06 > 0:42:12# As our sun begins to fade

0:42:12 > 0:42:18# And we make our love on wasteland

0:42:18 > 0:42:22# And through the barricades

0:42:25 > 0:42:32# Father made my history

0:42:32 > 0:42:40# He fought for what he thought would set us somehow free

0:42:40 > 0:42:47# He taught me what to say in school

0:42:47 > 0:42:54# I learned it off by heart but now that's torn in two

0:42:56 > 0:43:01# And now I know what they're saying

0:43:01 > 0:43:06# In the music of the parade

0:43:06 > 0:43:13# And we make our love on wasteland

0:43:13 > 0:43:18# And through the barricades

0:43:31 > 0:43:38# Born on different sides of life

0:43:39 > 0:43:47# But we fear the same and feel all of this strife

0:43:47 > 0:43:53# So come to me when I'm asleep

0:43:55 > 0:44:03# We'll cross the lines and dance upon the streets

0:44:03 > 0:44:07# And now I know what they're saying

0:44:07 > 0:44:11# As the drums begin to fade

0:44:13 > 0:44:19# And we make our love on wasteland

0:44:19 > 0:44:24# And through the barricades

0:44:26 > 0:44:32# Oh, turn around and I'll be there

0:44:32 > 0:44:38# Well there's a scar right through my heart but I'll bare it again

0:44:40 > 0:44:43# I thought we were the human race

0:44:43 > 0:44:48# But we were just another borderline case

0:44:48 > 0:44:52# And the stars reach down and tell us

0:44:52 > 0:44:55# There's always one escape

0:44:55 > 0:45:03# Oh, I don't know where love has gone

0:45:05 > 0:45:12# But in this troubled land desperation keeps us strong

0:45:12 > 0:45:19# Friday's child is full of soul

0:45:19 > 0:45:26# With nothing left to lose, there's everything to go

0:45:26 > 0:45:30# Now I know what they're saying

0:45:30 > 0:45:35# It's a terrible beauty we've made

0:45:35 > 0:45:41# And we make our love on wasteland

0:45:41 > 0:45:45# And through the barricades

0:45:45 > 0:45:49# And now I know what they're saying

0:45:49 > 0:45:54# As our hearts go to their graves

0:45:54 > 0:46:03# When we made our love on wasteland

0:46:03 > 0:46:08# And through the barricades. #

0:47:45 > 0:47:48Thank you very much. Thank you.

0:47:48 > 0:47:50That was the fantastic Tony Hadley.

0:47:52 > 0:47:55In Belfast, our next performance comes from the award-winning

0:47:55 > 0:47:59West End and Broadway actor and singer John Owen-Jones.

0:47:59 > 0:48:03Renowned for his performances as the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera

0:48:03 > 0:48:06and Jean Valjean in Les Miserables, here he is with one

0:48:06 > 0:48:10of the best-loved numbers from Le Mis, Bring Him Home.

0:48:10 > 0:48:20# God on high

0:48:20 > 0:48:26# Hear my prayer

0:48:28 > 0:48:33# In my need

0:48:33 > 0:48:40# You have always been there

0:48:40 > 0:48:46# He is young

0:48:46 > 0:48:53# He's afraid

0:48:53 > 0:48:59# Let him rest

0:48:59 > 0:49:04# Heaven blessed

0:49:04 > 0:49:22# Bring him home

0:49:23 > 0:49:28# He's like the son I might have known

0:49:28 > 0:49:32# If God had granted me a son

0:49:32 > 0:49:35# The summers die

0:49:35 > 0:49:37# One by one

0:49:37 > 0:49:41# How soon they fly

0:49:41 > 0:49:44# On and on

0:49:44 > 0:49:47# And I am old

0:49:47 > 0:49:51# And will be gone

0:49:55 > 0:50:03# Bring him peace

0:50:03 > 0:50:10# Bring him joy

0:50:10 > 0:50:15# He is young

0:50:15 > 0:50:21# He is only a boy

0:50:21 > 0:50:27# You can take

0:50:27 > 0:50:33# You can give

0:50:33 > 0:50:38# Let him be

0:50:38 > 0:50:44# Let him live

0:50:44 > 0:50:50# If I die

0:50:50 > 0:50:56# Let me die

0:50:56 > 0:51:04# Let him live

0:51:04 > 0:51:18# Bring him home

0:51:18 > 0:51:41# Bring him home. #

0:51:53 > 0:51:58Back here in Hyde Park now for one of the biggest acts of the '90s.

0:51:58 > 0:52:01They've sold in excess of 12 million albums,

0:52:01 > 0:52:05they're gorgeous, they're talented, it is of course All Saints.

0:52:06 > 0:52:09# A few questions that I need to know

0:52:09 > 0:52:13# How you could ever hurt me so

0:52:13 > 0:52:16# I need to know what I've done wrong

0:52:16 > 0:52:20# And how long it's been going on

0:52:20 > 0:52:23# Was it that I never paid enough attention

0:52:23 > 0:52:27# Or did I not give enough affection

0:52:27 > 0:52:30# Not only will your answers keep me sane

0:52:30 > 0:52:35# But I'll know never to make the same mistake again

0:52:35 > 0:52:38# You can tell me to my face

0:52:38 > 0:52:41# Or even on the phone

0:52:41 > 0:52:45# You can write it in a letter

0:52:45 > 0:52:49# Either way I've have to know

0:52:49 > 0:52:52# Did I never treat you right

0:52:52 > 0:52:56# Did I always start the fight

0:52:56 > 0:52:59# Either way I'm going out of my mind

0:52:59 > 0:53:03# All the answers to my questions I have to find

0:53:03 > 0:53:07# My head's spinning

0:53:07 > 0:53:10# Boy, I'm in a daze

0:53:10 > 0:53:14# I feel isolated

0:53:14 > 0:53:18# Don't want to communicate

0:53:18 > 0:53:19# I'll take a shower

0:53:19 > 0:53:21# I will scour

0:53:21 > 0:53:25# I will roam

0:53:25 > 0:53:26# Find peace of mind

0:53:26 > 0:53:28# The happy mind

0:53:28 > 0:53:31# I once owned, yeah

0:53:31 > 0:53:35# Flexing vocabulary runs right through me

0:53:35 > 0:53:39# The alphabet runs right from A to Z

0:53:39 > 0:53:42# Conversations, hesitations in my mind

0:53:42 > 0:53:46# You got my conscience asking questions that I can't find

0:53:46 > 0:53:49# I'm not crazy

0:53:49 > 0:53:53# I'm sure I ain't done nothin' wrong, no

0:53:53 > 0:53:55# I'm just waiting

0:53:55 > 0:54:00# Cos I heard that this feeling won't last that long

0:54:00 > 0:54:04# Never ever have I ever felt so low

0:54:04 > 0:54:08# When you gonna take me out of this black hole

0:54:08 > 0:54:11# Never ever have I ever felt so sad

0:54:11 > 0:54:15# The way I'm feeling, yeah, you got me feeling really bad

0:54:15 > 0:54:18# Never ever have I had to find
