0:05:31 > 0:05:37you had fun because eyesight. From your point of view, a good days

0:05:37 > 0:05:42work? People say, you would like you are enjoying yourself but we're just

0:05:42 > 0:05:46happy to be employed. It is rare we get to come through here, even

0:05:46 > 0:05:54playing gigs, but now that we see the vibe, we know we have to make

0:05:54 > 0:05:58this into a good show. But look at the rest of the bill, these are the

0:05:58 > 0:06:04established old guard at this point. An extra responsibility to deliver.

0:06:04 > 0:06:08Everyone expects it. We always put the pressure on ourselves. For our

0:06:08 > 0:06:13first year, we carried sticks around with ourselves, to beat ourselves up

0:06:13 > 0:06:17every so often. We're not good enough! I think now we are having

0:06:17 > 0:06:24more fun, we are moral laxity. The hard work has paid off. We just

0:06:24 > 0:06:27don't care! I'm going to let you go because you have been fantastic, but

0:14:46 > 0:14:56# Can I get a "Wo-o-o-oah"? #

0:14:56 > 0:14:56doing this interview because it is so

0:14:56 > 0:14:57so loud.

0:14:57 > 0:14:57so loud. Can

0:14:57 > 0:15:01so loud. Can you

0:15:01 > 0:15:04so loud. Can you keep it down, we're having an interview! I get the

0:15:04 > 0:15:12impression you are the kind of person that will take this in and go

0:15:12 > 0:15:17and see these bands. You have worked with half of the bill, DJ fresh, do

0:15:17 > 0:15:21you walk around and think you have to go and see these guys? I am a fan

0:15:21 > 0:15:30before anything. I was a fan before I was lucky enough to work with them

0:15:30 > 0:15:35so why stop now? I am a fan, so I love watching people perform.

0:15:35 > 0:15:45run-up to one big we turned, -- one Big Weekend, there was a series of

0:15:45 > 0:15:49

0:15:49 > 0:15:53workshops for young eagle in the Radio 1 team brought some serious

0:15:53 > 0:15:56knowledge to the nerve centre in Derry on setting up the Radio 1

0:15:56 > 0:16:01Academy. Over the week, young people got free training in music, media

0:16:01 > 0:16:07and fashion from experts in each field. I've got a tour from the lady

0:16:07 > 0:16:13in charge. So these guys were involved with one of the workshops

0:16:13 > 0:16:17earlier on. It was a script writing workshop. The guys turn up in their

0:16:17 > 0:16:23own scripts. They did not know anybody who was going to be there.

0:16:23 > 0:16:28So the cast of East Enders came out by surprise to perform the scripts.

0:16:28 > 0:16:34Wow. Every workshop has something a bit different about it. There have

0:16:34 > 0:16:37been some stars, the cast of East Enders, The Script have performed on

0:16:37 > 0:16:43that stage in the Radio 1 DJs, but of course it is all about the young

0:16:43 > 0:16:46locals. Absolutely. The academy would not be the academy without

0:16:46 > 0:16:52young people coming through the door, and also the partnerships we

0:16:52 > 0:16:55are making with local organisations. When we go at the end of the week,

0:16:55 > 0:17:05they will be able to carry on their journey with local partners, like

0:17:05 > 0:17:13

0:17:13 > 0:17:21T-shirt designs. One of these T-shirts will be chosen and will be

0:17:21 > 0:17:28made and sold. Wow. Some great opportunities. So there is a major

0:17:28 > 0:17:32future fashion designer somewhere in this room? I think so.You will be

0:17:32 > 0:17:39more familiar with this place. good old-fashioned radio studio. Who

0:17:39 > 0:17:45has been broadcasting through here? We have had you Stevens, Alice

0:17:45 > 0:17:50Levine, and the breakfast show. It is a good place to end, because it

0:17:50 > 0:17:53is the Radio 1 Academy, and Radio 1 have made this all happen. They

0:17:53 > 0:17:57bring brand value and a young audience, and we bring the learning

0:17:57 > 0:18:06side of it. It is just mixing those things together, learning and Radio

0:18:06 > 0:18:091. That is what makes the Academy really great. I'm about to go over

0:18:09 > 0:18:13to the main stage to do one of the most important interviews of the

0:18:13 > 0:18:21entire weekend, but look at this, the T-shirt is on sale! How cool is

0:18:21 > 0:18:24that? One thing is sure, the taxi

0:18:25 > 0:18:29drivers, hotel owners and the rest are not talking about Bruno Mars or

0:18:29 > 0:18:32Biffy Clyro, they are talking about this young lady who won tickets and

0:18:32 > 0:18:37the opportunity to introduce Olly Murs on the main stage. That is

0:18:37 > 0:18:40going to happen in a few moments, how are you feeling? I cannot wait,

0:18:40 > 0:18:46it is the opportunity of a lifetime. I hope everyone will be talking

0:18:46 > 0:18:51about it for weeks to come. Are you nervous? I am, but I will just go

0:18:51 > 0:18:56out and enjoy it. Everyone is on your side. You are a local girl? Ten

0:18:56 > 0:19:00minutes away. Hopefully everyone will enjoy it. I think there are

0:19:00 > 0:19:04about 15,000 people on your side. From everybody here, good luck.

0:19:04 > 0:19:14We're going to see how she got on and then a little bit of the man

0:19:14 > 0:19:36

0:33:31 > 0:33:31comeback spend a couple of with my folks,

0:33:31 > 0:33:31folks, and

0:33:31 > 0:33:31folks, and I've

0:33:31 > 0:33:36folks, and I've become

0:33:36 > 0:33:40folks, and I've become really lazy. I'd just a guy want to stay in bed

0:33:40 > 0:33:45and lounge around the house. This time it has been really nice, I have

0:33:45 > 0:33:50come back and I have been up in Belfast, seeing the people want to

0:33:50 > 0:33:57see. It has been so nice to be back and reconnecting. Connecting with

0:33:57 > 0:34:01people I do not normally get to. I've got home to my mums house, and

0:34:02 > 0:34:06she had made me a lasagne. It is my favourite. Was it better than my

0:34:06 > 0:34:14lasagne? It reminds me of home more than your lasagne. That is a good

0:34:14 > 0:34:20answer. What are your bedrooms like? Not in a creepy way, but are

0:34:20 > 0:34:24they untouched since it you were 16? Mine is a sofa bed in a white room.

0:34:24 > 0:34:27Mine became a gym as soon as I'm at the door. I have a younger brother

0:34:27 > 0:34:37and I have the bigger bedroom when was growing up so as I am, he took

0:34:37 > 0:34:38

0:34:38 > 0:34:43over the bedroom. So now I've get the small spare room. Of course no

0:34:43 > 0:34:53festival would be complete without a light show and our team has worked

0:34:53 > 0:34:59

0:34:59 > 0:35:06around the clock to put on something mapping, so this is the most

0:35:06 > 0:35:09creative project we have ever taken off. -- ever taken on. Our

0:35:09 > 0:35:15presenters are the four elements that make the Big Weekend, the

0:35:15 > 0:35:20location, the artists, the presenters and the music. We have

0:35:20 > 0:35:27also done a collaboration with Calvin Harris, so he has provided

0:35:27 > 0:35:30the soundtrack and we have designed the animation around it. You can see

0:35:30 > 0:35:40the wonder as I look at this tiny little version, so let's see what it

0:35:40 > 0:36:12

0:36:12 > 0:36:22looks like real. # I've been waiting all night for

0:42:37 > 0:42:41very similar to Scotland. There is a real vibe. There is a Celtic

0:42:41 > 0:42:48affinity. When you were coming here six or seven years ago, you were

0:42:48 > 0:42:54playing 200 capacity venues. It must be amazing to be playing here in

0:42:54 > 0:42:59Derry, headlining one Big Weekend. It is fantastic. We have had great

0:42:59 > 0:43:03support over the years and it feels like a chance for us and those

0:43:03 > 0:43:10people to have a bit of a celebration in a way. Like Simon

0:43:10 > 0:43:20says, the crowd here is fantastic. You are hard pushed to top a gig in

0:47:06 > 0:47:45

0:47:45 > 0:47:49just some pop stars crooning in a field. At all, Derry is vibrant and

0:47:49 > 0:47:55brilliant Tom of the city of culture 2013. Rigsy finds out what it means

0:47:55 > 0:47:59to the young people of Derry. The Big Weekend is not just about

0:47:59 > 0:48:03bringing famous names or novel events to Derry in 2013.

0:48:03 > 0:48:09It is also about looking past this year, towards a colourful and

0:48:09 > 0:48:15adventurous future for the city. You are hoping to inspire the next

0:48:15 > 0:48:21generation. Kids are getting exposed to music, traditions, opportunities

0:48:21 > 0:48:28to learn that we never had. It is only positive. People come here and

0:48:28 > 0:48:35they think it is amazing. We have the best music and dance scene, the

0:48:35 > 0:48:38best theatre scene. It is about building confidence. The music

0:48:38 > 0:48:42promise is a project designed to inspire the young people of Derry

0:48:42 > 0:48:48using music. I asked one of the directors of the initiative about

0:48:48 > 0:48:55their ambitions. This year, we will have approximately 1000 young

0:48:55 > 0:49:04people. We have set up hubs in four or five different places in the

0:49:04 > 0:49:08various partnership renewal areas. We are everywhere within the city.

0:49:08 > 0:49:12Even in the first eight weeks, we have seen so much develop and in the

0:49:12 > 0:49:16young people. Outside of the programme, they have even more

0:49:16 > 0:49:20opportunities because it is the city of culture. We had a culture jam

0:49:20 > 0:49:24weekend and one of our kids got up playing drums in front of 200

0:49:24 > 0:49:31people, after five weeks with us, having never played on stage in her

0:49:31 > 0:49:34life. Obviously, with this sort of resource, and this equipment is

0:49:34 > 0:49:39being left after the city of culture finishes, we are still in a position

0:49:39 > 0:49:44to cater and develop a music community resource that has never
