:02:08. > :02:15.city the size of Bath and basking under a cloud of drizzle. That

:02:15. > :02:19.hasn't dampened spirits. There has been a smell of manure from the cow

:05:06. > :05:07.APPLAUSE The

:05:07. > :05:07.The Vaccines

:05:07. > :05:08.The Vaccines sounding

:05:08. > :05:12.The Vaccines sounding good.

:05:12. > :05:16.The Vaccines sounding good. That was from their debut album. That is

:05:16. > :05:21.one of the many great bands that have performed across the stages

:05:21. > :05:31.braving the weather. It's been very exciting. Jimmy Cliff has been

:05:31. > :05:32.

:05:32. > :05:37.bringing the sunshine. I saw Morrissey. Fleet Foxes. Wu-Tang

:05:37. > :05:47.clan had people doing, "W's" in the world. We played it out. They said

:05:47. > :05:50.

:05:50. > :05:56.it was fine much I played one song. Over here behind us we have live

:05:56. > :06:06.music early on. A band who released their third album. Performing live

:06:41. > :06:43.# Circles of the street line lights # Are the only signal

:06:43. > :06:46.# That there's people out there in the black

:06:46. > :06:49.# He waves goodbye, to the town he grew up in

:06:49. > :06:53.# He know that is he'll never come back

:06:54. > :07:00.# The night outside is Fife below # His heart is pumping blood

:07:00. > :07:02.# On his lips is a perfect smile # His eyes beginning to flood

:07:02. > :07:06.# Because tonight's the kind of night

:07:06. > :07:16.# Where everything could change # Tonight's the kind of night

:07:16. > :07:44.

:07:44. > :07:54.# And not to those # Because tonight's the kind of

:07:54. > :08:05.

:08:05. > :08:15.# And tonight he's not gonna # Oh tonight he's not gonna

:08:15. > :08:15.

:08:15. > :09:06.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 51 seconds

:09:06. > :09:14.# Oh tonight he's not gonna APPLAUSE

:09:14. > :09:18.Noah And The Whale, Tonight's The Kind Of Night. Lovely stuff. The

:09:18. > :09:23.band who are headlining the Pyramid Stage a long road to get here. They

:09:23. > :09:26.were supposed to headline last year. Due to a bit of a back, a bit of a

:09:26. > :09:31.back, they couldn't do it. They are here this year, that is for sure. I

:09:31. > :09:41.have seen a couple of them around. That is official. You will get the

:09:41. > :09:43.

:09:43. > :09:49.entire show across BBC Two and BBC The 27 year Glastonbury rumour has

:09:49. > :09:53.finally come true. Ever since becoming Dublin's biggest export,

:09:53. > :09:56.U2 have been an obvious match for the world's greatest musical

:09:56. > :10:04.festival. Year-on-year their fans hopes have been dashed. Last year

:10:04. > :10:09.they came all so close. It still wasn't to be. Tonight, Bono, Larry,

:10:09. > :10:13.Adam and the Edge will take to the Pyramid Stage with a quarter of a

:10:13. > :10:18.century's expectation weighing an their shoulders. If any band can

:10:18. > :10:25.rise to the occasion, this one can. The world's biggest rock band

:10:25. > :10:31.started out on the tough streets on the north side of Dublin. Riding

:10:31. > :10:38.the wave of post-punk rebel punk they emerged at the dawn of the 0's

:10:38. > :10:48.with a unique brand of rousing anthems. Songs about Christianity,

:10:48. > :10:55.war and the Irish Troubles set the tone for U2's moral message. All

:10:55. > :11:01.this with great performances established them them in England

:11:01. > :11:11.and America. America would define the next stage in the U2 story. The

:11:11. > :11:12.

:11:12. > :11:19.band wrote a two album love letter # Where the streets have no name...

:11:19. > :11:23.That band photo in the The Joshua Tree the duet B.B. King and playing

:11:23. > :11:30.havoc with LA traffic drove them to the top of the charts as they

:11:30. > :11:37.became the biggest band on earth. By the '90s, mega band U2 were

:11:37. > :11:47.playing the world's largest stadiums. Defined as much with

:11:47. > :11:48.

:11:48. > :11:53.Bono's passion for politics as they were by Edge's guitar sounds. The

:11:53. > :12:01.band reinvented their image and their sound with the more

:12:01. > :12:06.experimental albums, Achtung Baby and zoo Europa. They performed on

:12:06. > :12:12.rooftops and moving vehicles. No strange erts to the odd slow Balad

:12:12. > :12:18.the likes of With Or Without You have made sure they are high up in

:12:18. > :12:26.the wedding first dance charts too. So, it seems whatever the event,

:12:26. > :12:31.whatever the scale, U2 are the rock band for the job. Glastonbury's no

:12:31. > :12:35.exception. I was there last summer at Glastonbury, to do a bit of a

:12:35. > :12:41.recce. Got up there with Mews, I had a fantastic time much we are so

:12:41. > :12:46.excited, just to be part of it is such an exciting thing for us. This

:12:46. > :12:56.is the best festival in the world. It has been a long time coming,

:12:56. > :12:59.

:12:59. > :13:02.finally, tonight, Worthy Farm There you go. The story of U2

:13:02. > :13:06.condensed. It's getsing very exciting. Whether you love love the

:13:06. > :13:11.headline act or not at a festival like this, there is a great

:13:11. > :13:16.euphoria that the biggest band in the world, probably, is here, right

:13:16. > :13:20.now. Jo is in the pits with Space Odyssey Blairing out from the

:13:21. > :13:23.streets as we await the arrival. Here's Jo. This is the moment that

:13:23. > :13:28.many people thought wouldn't happen. It has been a long time going.

:13:28. > :13:38.Tonight they are here, flying in especially for Glastonbury, with a

:13:38. > :13:38.

:13:38. > :14:33.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 51 seconds

:14:33. > :14:40.# Give me one more chance # Give me two more chances

:14:40. > :14:43.# Well, my heart is where it's always been

:14:43. > :14:47.# My head is somewhere in between

:15:09. > :15:19.# Child...

:15:19. > :15:22.

:15:22. > :15:28.# Give me one last chance and I'm gonna make you sing

:15:28. > :15:35.# Give me half a chance to ride on the waves that you bring

:15:35. > :15:42.# You're honey child to a swarm of bees

:15:42. > :15:43.# Gonna blow right through you like a breeze

:15:43. > :15:47.# Give me one last dance

:15:47. > :15:54.# We'll slide down the surface of things

:15:54. > :15:55.# You're the real thing

:15:55. > :15:59.# You're the real thing, yeah

:15:59. > :16:00.# You're the real thing

:16:00. > :16:05.# Even better than the real thing

:16:35. > :16:38.

:16:38. > :16:48.Look at you! A whole city in the rain. Glastonbury, where are you

:16:48. > :16:49.

:16:49. > :16:59.going to take us? Where are you # You take me higher

:16:59. > :16:59.

:18:49. > :18:59.# So I'm telling you # Child

:18:59. > :19:16.
