:00:46. > :00:51.Glastonbury. We are here, Sunday afternoon, day 3. We very much saved

:00:52. > :00:56.the best to last. There is a certain lady in white in the Pyramid Stage.

:00:57. > :01:01.Dolly Parton is tearing it up. The crowd for her is huge. We will bring

:01:02. > :01:05.you her set in its entirety on this programme. She is coming up in a

:01:06. > :01:13.short while. We have lots to keep you entertained. Paul Heaton and

:01:14. > :01:17.Jacqui Abbott are here singing their new single and a duet in tribute to

:01:18. > :01:29.Dolly par ton. I wonder what it could be? And the ever-affable and

:01:30. > :01:36.joyful sheerian is here. He has sent a message to my children. -- Ed

:01:37. > :01:40.Sheeran. Glastonbury 2014. Let's look at the

:01:41. > :01:46.story so far. # I have never dreamed it

:01:47. > :01:49.# Have you ever dreamed a night like this

:01:50. > :01:56.# I cannot believe it # I may never see a night like this

:01:57. > :01:59.# Yeah # When everything you think is

:02:00. > :02:05.incomplete # cheek-to-cheek

:02:06. > :02:09.# Could you ever dream it # I have never dreamed a dream like

:02:48. > :02:51.The story so far at Glastonbury 2014. Lovely day here today. What a

:02:52. > :02:56.lovely day. What has been your highlight so far today? I don't want

:02:57. > :03:02.to show off but I met Dolly Parton, it was amazing. I found an ice-cream

:03:03. > :03:06.van for cheese. You can get fondue fries and I found a castle that

:03:07. > :03:11.serves garlic bread. A garlic bread castle. That was remarkable rather

:03:12. > :03:15.than exceptional. I'm pleased for you as a friend. It is your

:03:16. > :03:21.birthday. I want you to have a good time I went to see Three Daft

:03:22. > :03:24.Monkeys on the Avalon stage. But an ice-cream van for cheese. It is

:03:25. > :03:28.something I have been waiting Forestieri many years. We should

:03:29. > :03:38.hook up with Dolly and take her to it. That white catsuit, idol to go

:03:39. > :03:44.council mud-splattered walk-ways. Should we get to some music? The

:03:45. > :03:49.festivities opened this morning with English National Ballet and it was

:03:50. > :04:16.joyous sound and music from Caro Emerald leading up to Dolly day.

:04:17. > :04:21.# I took the perfect avenue, down the road to both of you

:04:22. > :04:30.# With all the money in the world # You could never buy this girl

:04:31. > :04:40.# If romancing me with neons is something you should do

:04:41. > :04:45.# May the letters write in luminous, in-lou

:04:46. > :04:51.# You could be breaking up, making up

:04:52. > :05:15.# With all this tragedy, don?t get me tangled up

:05:16. > :05:18.# To me you?re acting like you?re twins

:05:19. > :05:38.# I want to see emotions colouring the sky

:05:39. > :05:42.# To the point it will make me wanna cry

:05:43. > :05:50.# You could be breaking up, making up

:05:51. > :06:15.# With all this tragedy don't get me tangled up

:06:16. > :06:26.# Treating girls like a yo-yo is a no no of monumental kind

:06:27. > :06:30.# If playing with your string had lanced to be your thing

:06:31. > :06:33.# It's easy to say to both oh never mind

:06:34. > :06:42.# You could be breaking up, making up

:06:43. > :06:48.# You can't be faking it # Making it from my love

:06:49. > :07:01.# With all this tragedy, don?t get me tangled up

:07:02. > :07:02.# You could be breaking up, making up

:07:03. > :07:07.# You can't be faking it # Making it from my love

:07:08. > :07:14.# With all this tragedy, don't get me tangled up

:07:15. > :07:52.groove. I like it. Contemporary smooth. That was after the ballet. I

:07:53. > :07:57.wasn't here in time for the ballet. You saw that. We played it out on

:07:58. > :08:02.the early show, the lunchtime show here on BBC Two. I almost burst into

:08:03. > :08:05.tears. I had to stopwatching. It was really affecting. Apparently the

:08:06. > :08:09.dancers were not sure anybody would turn up. The crowd was huge.

:08:10. > :08:14.Transfixed and then went crazy afterwards. It was amazing. A proper

:08:15. > :08:18.moment. A precedent was set when we had the opera to kick off the Sunday

:08:19. > :08:22.morning a couple of years ago. We will show you some of the ballet

:08:23. > :08:26.later. We are building up to Dolly. We have Paul and Jacqui coming to

:08:27. > :08:31.ginning for us live and what a joy, someone who is hot-footing it from

:08:32. > :08:36.our encampment back over to the Pyramid Stage to perform live but he

:08:37. > :08:38.is here to give us an exclusive acoustic preview. It is only Ed

:08:39. > :08:47.Sheeran. # When your legs don't work

:08:48. > :08:54.like they used to before your

:08:55. > :08:56.cheeks # People fall in love in mysterious

:08:57. > :09:20.ways # Kiss me under the light of a

:09:21. > :09:49.thousand stars # Place your head on my beating

:09:50. > :09:53.heart strings

:09:54. > :10:17.the same way # I know you will still love me the

:10:18. > :10:21.same # People fall in love in mysterious

:10:22. > :10:47.ways # Kiss me under the light of a

:10:48. > :11:16.thousand stars # Place your head on my beating

:11:17. > :11:20.heart # Kiss me under the light of a

:11:21. > :12:01.thousand stars # Place your head on my beating

:12:02. > :12:06.heart # Thinking out loud

:12:07. > :12:19.# Baby we found love right where we # Babe we found love right where we

:12:20. > :12:38.are. # CHEERING AND APPLAUSE How are you

:12:39. > :12:42.feeling about the gig? I mean I have to follow Dolly. Not adeal, but it

:12:43. > :12:46.will be fun. Fingers crossed. Good luck. If it is any consolation, we

:12:47. > :12:50.heard that we think your album is number one, and definitely the

:12:51. > :12:56.biggest-selling Album of the Year, this year, so you have sold more

:12:57. > :12:59.records than she has. This week. Congratulations. Thank you so much.

:13:00. > :13:04.Thank you very much. Ed Sheeran everybody. Thank you to

:13:05. > :13:08.Ed for joining us before he goes on stage on the Pyramid Stage. We will

:13:09. > :13:17.catch up with our lovely Gemma now. She is out and about in the field.

:13:18. > :13:21.Aw, how lovely. A rare moment of solace in the fields of Avalon

:13:22. > :13:32.chilling out on Dolly Parton Sunday. Family vibe. A place for some real

:13:33. > :13:38.peace and quiet. Unless you are accompanied by a Mariachis band that

:13:39. > :14:12.is. Oh, she's irrepressible. What is she

:14:13. > :14:17.like? I like that Mariachis music. I went to see them. That's one of my

:14:18. > :14:21.favourite areas on the site. The Avalon. We have a timber-framed

:14:22. > :14:28.double-decker pub and a lovely cafe in the Avalon stage and I saw Three

:14:29. > :14:32.Daft Monkeys. The Mariachis were on but I had to come here and rehearse

:14:33. > :14:36.although it doesn't appear to have made much difference. Oh, well, we

:14:37. > :14:42.are free-wheeling towards Dolly. It doesn't matter what we do. We have

:14:43. > :14:45.Dolly, live music coming up. Paul and Jacqui will be here after this

:14:46. > :14:49.next thing. This is the band who had a good slot. The weather was great

:14:50. > :14:53.today. They were in the slot before Dolly Parton on the Pyramid Stage.

:14:54. > :15:12.It worked out nicely for them. These are the 1975.

:15:13. > :15:17.# Hey now call it a split 'cause you know that you will

:15:18. > :15:21.# Oh you bite your friends like chocolate

:15:22. > :15:23.# You say, we'll go where nobody knows, with

:15:24. > :15:33.# no we're never gunna' quit it no # Now we run run away from the boys

:15:34. > :15:40.# in the blue, and my car smells like chocolate

:15:41. > :15:52.# Hey now think about what you do, think about what they say

:15:53. > :15:53.# You say, we'll go where nobody knows, with

:15:54. > :16:03.# no we're never gonna' quit it no # Now we run run away from the boys

:16:04. > :16:05.# Yeah we're dressed in black from head to toe, we've got guns

:16:06. > :16:14.hidden under our petticoats # No we're never gunna' quit it.

:16:15. > :16:18.no we're never gonna' quit it no # Now you're never gonna' quit it,

:16:19. > :16:20.# If you don't start smoking it, that's what she said

:16:21. > :16:23.# She said we're dressed in black, head to toe, with guns hidden under

:16:24. > :16:34.# No we're never gunna' quit it,

:16:35. > :17:02.# Oh my hair smells like chocolate

:17:03. > :17:04.no we're never gunna' quit it no # Yeah we're dressed in black,

:17:05. > :17:11.from head to toe, we've got guns hidden under our petticoats

:17:12. > :17:12.# Well I think we better go, seriously better go

:17:13. > :17:14.# Said the feds are here you know # Seriously better go, oh oh,

:17:15. > :17:23.well I think we better go # Said the feds are here you know

:17:24. > :17:43.# Said we better know # Seriously better go

:17:44. > :17:48.# Yeah we're dressed in black, head to toe, with guns hidden under

:17:49. > :18:02.# No we're never gonna' quit it, no we're never gonna' quit it no

:18:03. > :18:04.# Well I think we better go, seriously better go

:18:05. > :18:30.# Said the feds are here you know # Seriously better go, oh oh,

:18:31. > :18:37.at school at Wilmslow High with my eldest daughter. Really? Yes. We are

:18:38. > :18:41.going to bring you some of that moving performance we were talking

:18:42. > :18:46.about the English National Ballet. They came to Glastonbury with a

:18:47. > :18:51.piece specially commissioned to mark the fact that 100 years yesterday

:18:52. > :18:54.that arch Duke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated and resulting in the

:18:55. > :18:59.fist world war. This is a rather moving piece. We have a film to tell

:19:00. > :19:07.you more about what the ENB were doing at Glastonbury this year.

:19:08. > :19:11.The reason I started dancing was because of music. You know, Michael

:19:12. > :19:15.Jackson. You would put a record on and I started dancing. That's why

:19:16. > :19:20.Glastonbury is so special. It is fantastic music everyone can listen

:19:21. > :19:24.to. Of course I knew about Glastonbury, always, but I never

:19:25. > :19:29.thought I would get to perform on that stage. All of us, as dancers,

:19:30. > :19:34.are, of course, huge music fans. We wouldn't be dancing if it weren't

:19:35. > :19:39.for music. We are all excited. Off the Richter scale excited. As an

:19:40. > :19:45.English girl, growing up, I see it year after year, it is such an

:19:46. > :19:48.exciting thing to be a part of. The English National Ballet are

:19:49. > :19:52.performing a piece called Dust, based on the First World War to show

:19:53. > :19:56.the strength of the women during that time. This was the fist time

:19:57. > :20:01.they got to go to the factories every day and prove that they could

:20:02. > :20:05.do what the men were doing. A lot of people, it will be their first time

:20:06. > :20:09.seeing ballet, which is really exciting. We are here to see what it

:20:10. > :20:13.is like. We have never seen a ballet, have we? It is going to be

:20:14. > :20:14.great to see culture. You never know, I might become a ballet fan

:20:15. > :21:37.after. APPLAUSE

:21:38. > :21:42.It was just very emotional. I got really emotional. It almost got me

:21:43. > :21:46.teary. We were both about to cry. We were crying before, after. We knew

:21:47. > :21:52.it was going to be incredible. But perhaps not quite so powerfully,

:21:53. > :21:55.breathtaking as it was. I will never forget that. There are certainp

:21:56. > :21:58.points in your career that are highlighted. This will be one. One

:21:59. > :22:04.of the best things I have seen at Glastonbury this week. It really was

:22:05. > :22:09.such a powerful performance, especially when you knew the two

:22:10. > :22:13.main dancers from that piece were husband and wife and have never

:22:14. > :22:17.danced together in a major production publicly. Is that right.

:22:18. > :22:20.It was beautiful and a fantastic audience. Wrapped attention. It

:22:21. > :22:24.really worked. A few months ago I organised a charity do up in

:22:25. > :22:28.Cheshire. Paul Heaton very kindly said he would come and sing a couple

:22:29. > :22:33.of songs. He phoned me a couple of weeks later said - I'm hooking with

:22:34. > :22:39.up Jacqui aboted do you -- Abbott. Do you mind if I bring her? People

:22:40. > :22:42.were delighted. They now have hit records. Sellout tours. Another

:22:43. > :22:47.tour. People are thrilled to hear them sing together again. Here they

:22:48. > :23:24.are for us, up at the park for Glastonbury 2014.

:23:25. > :23:32.# The mum and dad were telling you # The way you're dressed ain't cool

:26:25. > :26:28.guys together again. Thank you very much. Are you sticking around to do

:26:29. > :26:34.a bit of a duet for us, aren't you? OK. What a mystery, we are wondering

:26:35. > :26:38.what that could possibly be? A Dolly par ton duet, I can't think. We'll

:26:39. > :26:42.have to hang out and wait for it. Time it check out some more action

:26:43. > :26:48.from around the festival site now. This is what has been going on on

:26:49. > :27:14.The Other Stage. A little bit of Sam Smith for you.

:30:02. > :30:06.Sam Smith performing on The Other Stage.

:30:07. > :30:12.I was up in the Stone Circle earlier. It was lovely. I bumped

:30:13. > :30:16.into a a family with an 11-month-old baby in a troll quie. She was from

:30:17. > :30:21.the Wirral he was from Leeds. They said "Are you having a great

:30:22. > :30:27.birthday ""She said to him "Give him one of your cans of lager." He said

:30:28. > :30:32."No I have rationed them out." They were spending last night watching

:30:33. > :30:36.mow tallia with people who signed a petition to stop mow tallia playing.

:30:37. > :30:40.It sounds like they were experiencing everything they wanted

:30:41. > :30:52.to experience -- Metalica. #12k3w4r! -- Here what was on the

:30:53. > :30:58.John Peel Stage earlier today. # Oh, you Jack of all trades

:30:59. > :31:25.# You're the master of none # Oh, the race has begun

:31:26. > :31:30.# I was born a champion # And I'm

:31:31. > :32:15.counting every link # And I guess you think that's

:32:16. > :32:20.fine # You can try and run

:32:21. > :33:54.and hide CHEERING AND APPLAUSE He seems to

:33:55. > :33:57.have become one of the voices and faces of the festival. Doesn't he

:33:58. > :34:01.just? You get that each year when someone comes and steps up about

:34:02. > :34:06.three divisions. It happens that way. It is funny, the ebb and flow

:34:07. > :34:12.of the festival. The slot Dolly is playing, the 5.00pm slot is kind of

:34:13. > :34:16.the unofficial headline shot. We'll bring you that shortly. You will get

:34:17. > :34:20.all your Dolly Parton needs in this show. Hang out for that. But before

:34:21. > :34:24.we get there, we will check out the building really behind another real

:34:25. > :34:29.icon. A feature of the Glastonbury skyline. The giant spider. These

:34:30. > :34:31.days. Have alike at how this is put together over in the Arcadia area.

:34:32. > :34:45.-- have a look. Arcadia is an idea of taking things

:34:46. > :34:52.that nobody else wants any more and making them into a massive giant

:34:53. > :34:57.playground. The components of Arcadia are sculpture, recycling,

:34:58. > :35:02.music, special effects, circus per performance. Our job is to marry up

:35:03. > :35:06.all those elements and bring them together and make some interesting

:35:07. > :35:10.things happen. Glastonbury is the first show of the year for us,

:35:11. > :35:14.usually. The spider has been in hibernation for the winter. We have

:35:15. > :35:20.to get it out, dust it off and give it its summer coat or do any repairs

:35:21. > :35:23.necessary. We tend to use a lot of aviation equipment. We like jet

:35:24. > :35:28.engines because they are nice and they look lick they have come from

:35:29. > :35:33.outer space. -- they look like. This is the floor of the dft J booth in

:35:34. > :35:37.the centre of the spider. This is the spider's eyes, one of the eye

:35:38. > :35:44.sockets. We don't really have an idea and find a bit. It is kind of

:35:45. > :35:48.we find a bit and the idea is inspired by that and the bits get

:35:49. > :35:52.knocked around. And sometimes within a minute of entering a scrap yard we

:35:53. > :35:57.find a bit and it takes things in another direction. These are the top

:35:58. > :36:02.muscles from the spider they are made from Gazale helicopter tails.

:36:03. > :36:08.This big slowing one of the three legs of the spider. It weighs about

:36:09. > :36:09.ten tons, it is a monster, it is part of a Customs and Excise

:36:10. > :36:23.scanning machine. The convoy rolls in and the first

:51:08. > :51:57.# I will always love you # I will always love you

:51:58. > :54:37.Oh my goodness. Look at that huge crowd. Wow. When you get to Dolly

:54:38. > :54:41.Parton's stage of the game. Five decades making music, 100 million

:54:42. > :54:44.records sold. There aren't many firsts left. It is really special to

:54:45. > :54:49.see another first for her. Wonderful. Dolly Parton playing

:54:50. > :54:55.Glastonbury for the first time I don't think you can do much more

:54:56. > :54:59.than that. How do you top that? Ed Sheeran is going to have to try.

:55:00. > :55:04.That was great. All the fantastic hits. What a show and also the theme

:55:05. > :55:10.tune to the Benny Hill show which doesn't help. An a be-Jewelled

:55:11. > :55:14.saxophone. : Well that was Dolly Parton, first time as Glastonbury.

:55:15. > :55:18.It seems to have been a bit of a triumph. I wonder how she felt about

:55:19. > :55:23.it. As she came off stage, Joe wiley managed to grab a word with her.

:55:24. > :55:28.Lovely to meet you. I'm still out of breath. Listen to them, they are

:55:29. > :55:31.going out there. Queen Queen of Glastonbury, official. How was that

:55:32. > :55:36.for you? Exciting. The fact they are still going, I didn't know. It is

:55:37. > :55:41.fun. It is everything everybody said it was going to be and I didn't get

:55:42. > :55:45.mud on me. It is compare and contrast. Look at that. What was

:55:46. > :55:50.that like? I have never seen a crowd that vast before. How did it feel

:55:51. > :55:54.for you? There was a lot of people there. I was trying to pretend they

:55:55. > :55:57.were all one special person, that's kind of how it felt of. It was

:55:58. > :56:01.exciting, fun, everything everybody said it was going to be. Did it take

:56:02. > :56:05.your breath away? Overwhelming. They were quiet when we did the quiet

:56:06. > :56:09.songs. I didn't know if they would be too rowdy. They were respectful

:56:10. > :56:13.and rowdy when we needed them to be. Have you played a festival before?

:56:14. > :56:18.None this big. Many fest values. Kenny Rodgers was here this time

:56:19. > :56:22.last year. Did you speak to him? He told me it was a great crowd, he

:56:23. > :56:26.said I was going to enjoy myself. He was right. Your favourite bit. ?

:56:27. > :56:29.What did you enjoy? I loved it all. The excitement and electricity of

:56:30. > :56:32.them being out there taking part in every song and singing along with

:56:33. > :56:36.me, a big thrill. Singing nine to five with those voices, that was

:56:37. > :56:39.probably the biggest thrill of the night. What is the strangest sight

:56:40. > :56:44.you have seen? Many people were dressed up as you. I know. There are

:56:45. > :56:49.a lot of drag queens out there. I always said it was a good thing I

:56:50. > :56:52.was a girl because I would have definitely been a drag queen. Did

:56:53. > :56:56.you see the security guards doing the Dolly mob thing? They were doing

:56:57. > :56:59.their number. It was a big thrill. Will you sum-up your Glastonbury

:57:00. > :57:04.experience, how it was for you? It was a wonderful thing. More than

:57:05. > :57:09.they said it was going to be. I was a little nervous, I didn't know what

:57:10. > :57:16.to expect. They were very sweet. Everything I hoped it wouldbe. And

:57:17. > :57:21.no mud. Thank you. Congratulations. I just want to talk about it

:57:22. > :57:24.forever. I want to talk about the trousers/shorts/whatever they are,

:57:25. > :57:29.forever. Amazing, if you want more Dolly there is a documentary about

:57:30. > :57:33.to start on BBC4 called Platinum Blonde. Don't miss it. Shoofrnlts's

:57:34. > :57:38.force of nature. It was like Lars last night. When you are an act on

:57:39. > :57:43.that scale what are the last things to do, conquering Glastonbury, you

:57:44. > :57:47.get impressions, the word goes around, The final frontier. Our

:57:48. > :57:52.friend who was here earlier, Ed Sheeran is on BBC3 at 7.00pm. And
