:04:35. > :04:50.I know that you will # No, we're never gonna quit it, no,
:04:51. > :04:53.we're never gonna quit it, no" # Now run, run away

:05:32. > :05:51.that's what she said" # Hey, now we're building up speed
:05:52. > :05:54.as we're approaching the hill # Hey, now you say you're gonna quit

:06:57. > :07:01.we're never gonna quit it, no # Yeah, we're dressed
:07:02. > :07:04.in black from head to toe, # We've guns hidden

:07:57. > :08:03.'cause I know the sound # I can't believe
:08:04. > :08:18.I forgot your name # She said "I've got a problem
:08:19. > :08:23.with your shoes and your tunes # I thought that you were
:08:24. > :08:27.straight, now I'm wondering # What does it matter if I lie
:08:28. > :08:32.to you? # I don't regret it but I'm
:08:33. > :08:35.glad that we're through # So don't you tell me that
:08:36. > :08:38.you 'just don't get it' # Well I know when you're around
:08:39. > :08:43.cause I know the sound # Well I know when you're around
:08:44. > :08:51.cause I know the sound # It's not about reciprocation
:08:52. > :08:59.it's just all about me # A sycophantic, prophetic,
:09:00. > :09:04.Socratic junkie wannabe # I can't see the difference
:09:05. > :09:18.in it either way # And we left things
:09:19. > :09:22.to protect my mental health # But you call me when you're bored
:09:23. > :09:27.and you're playing with yourself # What does it matter if I lie
:09:28. > :09:35.to you? # I don't regret it but I'm
:09:36. > :09:37.glad that we're through # So don't you tell me that
:09:38. > :09:41.you 'just don't get it' # Well I know when you're around
:09:42. > :09:45.cause I know the sound # Well I know when you're around
:09:46. > :09:52.cause I know the sound # Well I know when you're around
:09:53. > :10:00.cause I know the sound # Well I know when you're around
:10:01. > :10:20.cause I know the sound Now everybody, if you're young, if
:10:21. > :10:23.you're old, if you're covered in shit, if you're not, it doesn't
:10:24. > :10:27.matter. Everybody's going to start jumping up and down, moving side to
:10:28. > :11:00.side on the count of four. One... Two... One, two, fucking jump!
:11:01. > :11:06.# Well I know when you're around cause I know the sound
:11:07. > :11:11.# Well I know when you're around cause I know the sound
:11:12. > :11:18.# Well I know when you're around cause I know the sound
:11:19. > :11:26.# Well I know when you're around cause I know the sound
:11:27. > :12:13.# Take your shoes off in the back of my van
:12:14. > :12:27.# When it's just hanging off your back
:12:28. > :12:31.# And she said, "Use your hands and my spare time
:12:32. > :12:34.# We've got one thing in common, it's this tongue of mine"
:12:35. > :12:45.# There's only minutes before I drop you off
:12:46. > :12:48.# All we seem to do is talk about sex
:12:49. > :12:56.# I loved your friend when I saw his film
:12:57. > :13:01.# But I like that 'cause he still looks cool
:13:02. > :13:39.One more time, Glastonbury! Let's have it.
:13:40. > :13:59.One, two, three, four. # And I'm not trying
:14:00. > :14:13.to stop you love # If we're gonna do anything
:14:14. > :14:17.we might as well just fuck # You've got your
:14:18. > :15:13.tongue pierced anyway Glastonbury!
:15:14. > :15:29.CHEERING AND APPLAUSE. Thank you so much. An amazing gig earlier for
:15:30. > :15:34.Manchester's The 1975. I like a tall band. There's been a lot of talk
:15:35. > :15:38.about mud at Glastonbury this year but that's not really the point.
:15:39. > :15:43.This year Glastonbury is all about grime. The scene has been one of the
:15:44. > :15:47.UK's most vibrant for a decade, but in 2016 grime really is having its
:15:48. > :15:53.big moment. It is slap-bang in the middle of the mainstream. It is the
:15:54. > :15:58.music that everyone is talking about. On the Main Stage there's
:15:59. > :16:03.been such a focus here at Glastonbury. The whole of Friday's
:16:04. > :16:12.bill was given over to grime artists, so we went to check it out.
:16:13. > :16:23.I'm live in the flesh here at Glastonbury. Where you know me from,
:16:24. > :16:28.where you know me from? One of the reasons that grime has had this sick
:16:29. > :16:34.rise in the last year or two is there's a thirst and hunger for
:16:35. > :16:43.authenticity in music. Real experiences and energy that hasn't
:16:44. > :16:48.shined for some years. Everyone is looking for it, saying we don't
:16:49. > :16:55.really like what's going on, like. Where's the real one one? Grime is
:16:56. > :17:00.like that, like funk or hip-hop. For a long time grime and UK hip-hop
:17:01. > :17:04.lots its identity. I feel that over the last 18 months ownership has
:17:05. > :17:12.been the main thing for a lot of artists involved in the currency. Go
:17:13. > :17:16.over your head, up load it a bit, and you fellow... Grime is very
:17:17. > :17:24.important to me because it's the UK. It's ours. It's the scene and it is
:17:25. > :17:29.building and getting more powerful. I'm from Birmingham and I did feel a
:17:30. > :17:34.little bit uncomfortable rapping in my accent when I first started. But
:17:35. > :17:44.now I'm so proud that I can be myself on the track. Ten years ago
:17:45. > :17:49.you would never think cue get your foot in the door because you are not
:17:50. > :18:01.from London. But now the whole game's changed. Bugsy Malone is on
:18:02. > :18:05.stage right now. He's got a model where artists outside the M 25
:18:06. > :18:09.finally believe that this is the way of life. It is growing at the
:18:10. > :18:13.moment, fast. I come from quite a difficult background. It is just
:18:14. > :18:16.having a voice. Somebody like me could have easily been sat going
:18:17. > :18:20.through what I was going through with nobody to get it off my chest.
:18:21. > :18:29.This gives young people who might not have so much of a chance, an
:18:30. > :18:35.opportunity to talk. Where I grew up, if you didn't have a lyric you
:18:36. > :18:42.was a moron. Everyone had a bar when I was growing up. A really good
:18:43. > :18:44.lyric with resonates with someone has sonates with someone has to come
:18:45. > :18:47.from somewhere - maybe a past experience or something you want to
:18:48. > :18:53.do. It has to come from who you are, you know what I'm saying? I don't
:18:54. > :18:57.know why we like the postcode... It is called grime. It is truthful. It
:18:58. > :19:01.is raw to the core. It is not watered down for the radio or for T
:19:02. > :19:06.A lot of people like how fresh it sounds and how warm and British it
:19:07. > :19:12.really is. The game's changed a little bit. I always tell young
:19:13. > :19:17.artists, there are no boundaries. Look at myself. Look at all these
:19:18. > :19:24.other sick artists and go that you can be greater. You are a like a
:19:25. > :19:30.King, man. CHEERING Cheer. Just a little bit of
:19:31. > :19:38.the action that was happening here yesterday at Glastonbury. Amazing to
:19:39. > :19:42.see Stormzy. The energy is so infectious. A big moment for grime
:19:43. > :19:47.at Glastonbury. And there was a big focus on it, but we saw earlier
:19:48. > :19:57.today Lady Leisure played on the Park Stage. We took some of that
:19:58. > :20:06.performance on BBC Two. And amazing to see, and Adele shouted out
:20:07. > :20:13.Stormzy in one of her big gigs. Will he come out with Adele later on?
:20:14. > :20:19.We'll see. Now to a Glastonbury performer, Dine mow is here. How are
:20:20. > :20:24.you guys doing? How are you? I had a big one last night. I'm trying to
:20:25. > :20:29.get over it. I'm trying to hold it together for Adele. My kids saw you
:20:30. > :20:33.earlier and you were grabbed for so many selfies with children that you
:20:34. > :20:38.couldn't get out. What happened? I think I did at least a thousand
:20:39. > :20:45.selfies in the kids field today, and I will do more later. I'm a bit of a
:20:46. > :20:52.selfie King now. Move over Kim Kardashian. Dynamo is here. You've
:20:53. > :20:58.been on a huge arena tour. The most popular magician. What are you doing
:20:59. > :21:03.for us tonight? Right now I want to use your imagination. I've got some
:21:04. > :21:09.cards. Even that, that's really cool already. It's already a bit magical.
:21:10. > :21:16.Before I start, I will Give them a shuffle. I will even misthem face up
:21:17. > :21:21.so you can see all the faces, all different. They are face up. He
:21:22. > :21:28.faces, all different. They are face up. -- mix them face up. I will even
:21:29. > :21:31.give them a cut. Huw, cut the cards to a random card. Move them from the
:21:32. > :21:39.top to the bottom. Put them anywhere you lice. From the top to the
:21:40. > :21:45.bottom. Yep. Stop where you like. You've cut to the card that's on the
:21:46. > :21:50.top there. Without letting anyone else see it, not even yourself,
:21:51. > :21:59.slide that card into your back pocket. Shall I stand up? If you
:22:00. > :22:08.need to. That top card... Yeah, done. I will get rid of these ones.
:22:09. > :22:12.Right now you've got a random card in your back pocket. Not even you or
:22:13. > :22:17.anybody else here or watching at home knows what it is. Absolutely.
:22:18. > :22:24.I'm going to come back to you later, Huw. What I want you to do is
:22:25. > :22:28.imagine that there's a table between us, an invisible pack of cards, and
:22:29. > :22:32.I'm reaching over and I'm removing either the red or the black cards.
:22:33. > :22:37.If it was your choice, would you move the red or the black? The red.
:22:38. > :22:42.So I'm moving the red cards, I'm holding them and I'm separating them
:22:43. > :22:46.into hearts and diamonds. I'll drop either the hearts or the diamonds on
:22:47. > :22:53.to the table. What am I dropping back? The diamonds. I'm left with
:22:54. > :22:56.the hearts. I've separated them into picture Kurds and number cards.
:22:57. > :23:00.Picture cards will be like a King or a Queen. I'm going to toss into the
:23:01. > :23:04.air either the picture cards or the number cards. Numbers I'm tossing
:23:05. > :23:07.the number cards into the air and they are floating in front of us.
:23:08. > :23:12.We've got the high number cards and the low number cards. I'm going to
:23:13. > :23:17.scoop out either the high or the low. What am I scooping right now?
:23:18. > :23:24.You are scooping the low numbers. I've got the low numbers here. I've
:23:25. > :23:34.got 2, 3, 4 and 5 of hearts. I'm going to take two of them out of
:23:35. > :23:41.here. What did I just grab? The 2 and and the 5. You've ended one the
:23:42. > :23:45.5 of hearts, which we've crated in your imagination, right? Yes. At the
:23:46. > :23:49.beginning of this you took a card from the pack which you shuffled.
:23:50. > :23:58.You didn't even know what it was. Take a look. Do you want a close up?
:23:59. > :24:07.Here we go. It's the 5 of hearts. Ooh! Look at that! That's beautiful.
:24:08. > :24:12.And off he goes. Can I put this down, or have I got to hold on to
:24:13. > :24:18.this? That was amazing. Thank you so much. In dynamo core coming to say
:24:19. > :24:41.hello. We have some live music now. This is some of Lapsley's set.
:24:42. > :24:53.I came here when I was 17. This was my first gig ever. It's the same to
:24:54. > :24:53.be back. With this many people, it's just insane!
:24:54. > :25:15.CHEERING. Thank you. # Because you took something
:25:16. > :27:36.away from yourself # Come back to this route
:27:37. > :27:45.and take your heart to higher self # Because you took something
:27:46. > :27:53.away from yourself # Come back to this route
:27:54. > :28:00.and take your heart to higher self # Because you took something
:28:01. > :28:09.away from yourself # Come back to this route
:28:10. > :28:45.and take your heart to higher self CHEERING.
:28:46. > :28:50.# Thank you. Such a great voice. That was Lapsley playing on the John
:28:51. > :28:54.Peel Stage earlier. It is interesting to see people's journey
:28:55. > :29:01.developing and growing in pop later. She was on the BBC Introducing stage
:29:02. > :29:08.two or three years ago. We heard her play in Liverpool. The next act you
:29:09. > :29:12.are about to see tonight on BBC Two is from Nottingham. He's got an
:29:13. > :29:27.amazing voice. He has his beautiful band with him. This is Ady Suleiman.
:29:28. > :29:36.# Step inside and flow off into your own world
:29:37. > :29:39.# Where no-one else can be, and no one-else can see
:29:40. > :29:41.# None of your dreams shut down by reality
:29:42. > :29:47.# But that ain't gonna solve the fears that you hold
:29:48. > :29:51.# I hate to be the to burst your bubble.
:29:52. > :29:54.# But I thought that you should know, that even if you go
:29:55. > :29:56.# Shadows have the tendency to follow
:29:57. > :30:10.# Gotta stand up tall and try to take control
:30:11. > :30:12.# So pick your back up from off the wall
:30:13. > :30:15.# And try to make a change, cause yes you are brave
:30:16. > :30:20.# I want to educate that you don't need to run away
:30:21. > :30:23.# So don't you run away, cause you can escape
:30:24. > :30:25.# The ghosts'll haunt your soul when negativity stays
:30:26. > :30:29.# Unless you turn and face, and pick up the courage to say
:30:30. > :30:59.# Stop your runnin' from, and start runnin' to
:31:00. > :31:02.# A destination that is gonna help your life improve
:31:03. > :31:05.# You need to realise that runnin' all the time
:31:06. > :31:07.# Ain't gonna help you check out these things in life
:31:08. > :31:10.# You need to fight and stop a hidin'
:31:11. > :31:15.# Cause in time, sip or two, they'll be doubled
:31:16. > :31:21.# And I assume the runnin' will continue
:31:22. > :31:44.# I don't want to run no more. # No more, no more.
:31:45. > :31:56.# I don't want to run. # You're running away, my love.
:31:57. > :32:32.# You're running away. # Yeah you don't need to run, my
:32:33. > :32:38.love, no more. # I don't want to run.
:32:39. > :32:42.# I don't want to run away, my love. #
:32:43. > :32:50.APPLAUSE thank you for coming to play for us,
:32:51. > :32:53.to the band and to you, nice one. Thank you so much. Ady Suleiman live
:32:54. > :32:58.at Glastonbury tonight. Very impressive. And the box fresh feet,
:32:59. > :33:02.on all of you, excellent work. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I'm
:33:03. > :33:06.covered in mud. You're pristine. That's impressive too. All right,
:33:07. > :33:11.it's time now to head over and find out what happened when our own Jo
:33:12. > :33:16.Whiley call up with one of this weekend's most talked about artists,
:33:17. > :33:19.it is tonight's headliner Adele. She might be the biggest artist in the
:33:20. > :33:23.world right now, but Glastonbury can still make you a little bit nervous,
:33:24. > :33:28.even if that is the case as Jo found out.
:33:29. > :33:32.I don't think there are many people head lining on the Pyramid Stage to
:33:33. > :33:37.take the time out to have a chat pre-gig, this is quite something
:33:38. > :33:41.that Adele has decided to do this. You're either mad or very brave? I'm
:33:42. > :33:45.a bit mad. I don't know what I'm doing here. Take this as a
:33:46. > :33:48.distraction. Yeah, definitely. Tell me about Glastonbury as a child the
:33:49. > :33:52.very first time? The very first time. I don't remember. I was very,
:33:53. > :33:55.very young. It was muddy, I remember it being one of the worst years. I
:33:56. > :34:00.remember seeing garbage and being like, I want to do that. I remember
:34:01. > :34:04.doing that for sure. Being in the circus, there's a lot of photographs
:34:05. > :34:08.of me during my set, from when I was younger. That's kind of made me want
:34:09. > :34:12.to do it. I grew up at festivals. Glastonbury is a massive part of my
:34:13. > :34:16.life. The first time that you played Glastonbury, the only time you
:34:17. > :34:20.played? I played once, the Guardian tent, to no-one. And then downpour.
:34:21. > :34:25.So everyone rushed in and spoke over me. I think it was 2007. It was in
:34:26. > :34:28.the T tent. I went on just before Florence. Oh, did you, what. It was
:34:29. > :34:34.amazing. Did you do the whole experience? Oh, yeah. You camped?
:34:35. > :34:39.Oh, yeah, lost my mates. My manager was just like moaning about the
:34:40. > :34:44.winnebagos. I used to be in a tent with nowhere to stay, blag a space
:34:45. > :34:52.in the arch way of a tent. Always. I was drunk. So you came last year as
:34:53. > :34:56.well I came last year to semi-scope it out and semi-see Kanye on the
:34:57. > :35:00.Saturday night. I watch today on Emily. I was so frightened just
:35:01. > :35:05.watching his set and at the same time, I said yeah, all right I'll do
:35:06. > :35:10.it. Why did you do it? I think Glastonbury will end up being a big
:35:11. > :35:14.part of my kids' life as well. I want to say, I did that. I want it
:35:15. > :35:21.to be part of his childhood as well. So I want him to see me do it. Your
:35:22. > :35:24.proper debut is head lining on the Pyramid Stage the Saturday night,
:35:25. > :35:30.I'm not saying that to make you sick. I'm as nervous as I was in the
:35:31. > :35:33.Guardian tent. My nerves, I keep bursting into tears and feeling
:35:34. > :35:39.sick. Earlier, I felt like driving home. I could have got home before
:35:40. > :35:43.my set. Now I'm stuck. How did the arena tour, those shows, did they
:35:44. > :35:46.prepare you for doing this? I love arenas. There's so many people to
:35:47. > :35:50.talk to. I don't know if I can pull it off tonight. I want it talk. I
:35:51. > :35:55.don't want to ignore the crowd. Whether there's ten of you or 10,000
:35:56. > :35:59.or a few more than that, as long as they're happy to see my set, I want
:36:00. > :36:03.to talk to them and see what their favourite colour it. It will be
:36:04. > :36:07.interesting to see if it works. I can't not talk to them. If they get
:36:08. > :36:12.wet, I'll get wet. How do you adapt your set? You're not going to have
:36:13. > :36:17.dancers? I can't imagine I'll be dancing! No dancers. I've got my
:36:18. > :36:23.orchestra, that will be nice. I've got my band. Nothing, I haven't got
:36:24. > :36:25.any bells or whistles. Have you got outstanding memories of bands and
:36:26. > :36:32.performances in the past, whether it on television or when you were here,
:36:33. > :36:38.like the great moments for you? Arctic Monkies, last shadow puppets,
:36:39. > :36:42.do you remember That's Momma, African singers, bloody amazing. She
:36:43. > :36:46.was like the first Beyonce. She was in the jazz field years ago. That
:36:47. > :36:52.was amazing. Due watch Beyonce? On TV. I think I was in America then.
:36:53. > :36:56.What due think? She's like my I'd o. -- idol. She aced it. She kept
:36:57. > :37:00.leaving the stage to throw up because she was pregnant. She said
:37:01. > :37:04.that! She kept walking off stage to throw up. That's not exclusive by
:37:05. > :37:09.the way, I saw that on TV one time. Hang on, if you exit the stage
:37:10. > :37:14.you're not pregnant. No! I don't want any more kids. I'm trying to
:37:15. > :37:27.think what my highlight was. I'm going to say Basement Jaxx. Did she
:37:28. > :37:32.stand in for Kylie? Unbelievable. That was my favourite and Coldplay
:37:33. > :37:36.always smash it. Advice, have you had advice from headliners in the
:37:37. > :37:40.past, like Florence or Coldplay? She came to my London show and said it
:37:41. > :37:43.would be great. Chris has been helpful. I spoke to him yesterday
:37:44. > :37:47.and I cried a lot. I'm really emotional about it. He said, well,
:37:48. > :37:50.this is the worst thing that can happen, your sound will probably cut
:37:51. > :37:58.out for you, don't worry about that. It happens for everyone. If it rains
:37:59. > :38:03.you will fall over in front of thousands of people. Somebody will
:38:04. > :38:10.throw something at you, a pat or mud, but it won't be spiteful. It
:38:11. > :38:14.will be friendly. Thanks Chris! Probably don't go to Chris Martin
:38:15. > :38:19.for any kind of pep talk is the takeaway for that interview. Oh,
:38:20. > :38:23.Adele, Britain is rooting for Adele, I feel. She can bring us all
:38:24. > :38:28.together. Can't she? In our mutual love of Adele. She's incredible.
:38:29. > :38:33.Tonight's performance will be a big moment in her musical story as well.
:38:34. > :38:36.About half an hour to go until Adele takes to the Pyramid Stage. We will
:38:37. > :38:41.bring it to you live tonight. Don't go anywhere. Let's head to the Other
:38:42. > :38:42.Stage now, a brilliant band from Scotland playing there. Yes glag
:38:43. > :39:28.indeed. It's the wonderful Chvrches. # I never believe but I see it now
:39:29. > :39:31.# I'm learning the lessons # I'm learning your lessons
:39:32. > :39:57.# They make you feel so clever to do well.
:39:58. > :40:05.# Finally, we agree, no place for promises yeah
:40:06. > :40:08.# You better act so # High, high, I don't want bridges
:40:09. > :40:12.# I will be a gun # And it's you I'll come for
:40:13. > :40:17.# Hide, hide # No, it's not so easy
:40:18. > :40:26.# I will be a gun. # Who are you to tell me how to keep
:40:27. > :40:35.myself afloat # I tread water all the while
:40:36. > :40:38.# You stop and deny you held out my life
:40:39. > :40:47.# Did it make you feel so clever # Did you wear it on your sleeve
:40:48. > :40:58.# Did you see another lifetime # I was not a part so far
:40:59. > :41:05.# There is no other way # Finally, we agree, no place for
:41:06. > :41:10.promises here # You better run so
:41:11. > :41:15.# Hide, hide # I have burned the bridgeser I will
:41:16. > :41:22.be a gun and it's you I'll come for # Hide, hide, now it's all so easy
:41:23. > :41:26.# I will be a gun # There's no other way, never run
:41:27. > :41:30.far # Check a good swing at me and
:41:31. > :41:38.everything is even # Finally, we agree
:41:39. > :41:43.# No place for promises here. # Hide, hide, I am going to be burn
:41:44. > :41:47.the bridges # I will be a gun and it's you I'll
:41:48. > :41:51.come for # Hide, hide, now it's all so easy
:41:52. > :42:03.# I will be a gun # It's you I'll come for.
:42:04. > :42:10.# And it's you I'll come for. # And it's you I'll come for.
:42:11. > :42:13.# And it's you... # I am going to see that you won't
:42:14. > :42:24.go far # And I'm going to see that you
:42:25. > :43:19.won't go far # CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
:43:20. > :43:32.# We can just leave it here # So quick any number
:43:33. > :43:44.# Choose any colour # I could be answered.
:43:45. > :46:28.# And, no, you know you don't need me
:46:29. > :46:38.Wow! Absolutely spectacular set from Chvrches earlier today. What a hero.
:46:39. > :46:44.She should be a cometic book hero. I'm sure someone could draw her. And
:46:45. > :46:53.the sunset playing along as well. It looked beautiful. In anticipation of
:46:54. > :46:57.Adele's headline set, Clara went to see what's going on there 30 minutes
:46:58. > :47:07.before she goes on stage. Yes, here I am in the belly of the beast at
:47:08. > :47:14.the iconic Pyramid Stage waiting for one Misadeal Atkins. Those eyes are
:47:15. > :47:20.arguably the most well applied liquid I liner in pop. I've never
:47:21. > :47:24.seen as many excited people in one space as today. We had in one space
:47:25. > :47:29.as today. We had tame tame, who -- we had Tame Impala who warmed up for
:47:30. > :47:33.her earlier. A beautiful set. Everyone is rooting for Adele. This
:47:34. > :47:37.is a woman who famously said she would never do Glastonbury, too much
:47:38. > :47:42.mud. She couldn't deal with the cloud. Then she let slip she didn't
:47:43. > :47:48.have an opportunity to do it last year, because the record wasn't
:47:49. > :47:54.level. But now 25 is out there. I will never forget that famous day
:47:55. > :48:00.inning October when there was that adbreak and we heard the words,
:48:01. > :48:03.Hello. You may have seen her talking to Jo earlier, expressing how
:48:04. > :48:08.nervous she's feeling tonight. It's understandable. There's a lot of
:48:09. > :48:12.people out to see her. Everybody is truly on her side. Three albums
:48:13. > :48:17.worth of material to get through. We absolutely cannot wait. As we wait
:48:18. > :48:22.for Adele, I want to have a look back at some of her peers, some of
:48:23. > :48:27.the famous faces who have grace that the pyramid stage and truly made it
:48:28. > :48:30.their own. The pyramid at Glastonbury Festival is the most
:48:31. > :48:35.instantly recognisable stage in the world. Whoever you are, however
:48:36. > :48:41.large the star, a headline twig on the Pyramid Stage is always the big
:48:42. > :48:50.one. And after treading its hallowed boards, most artists fall in love
:48:51. > :48:58.with it. I felt like a rock star. This is like the highlight of my
:48:59. > :49:01.career. That was as good as it gets. I love the excitement, the
:49:02. > :49:05.electricity. Perhaps part of its appeal lies in the nature of its
:49:06. > :49:13.unusual design. It's a fantastic shape. A pyramid turned into a
:49:14. > :49:17.stage. Isn't that strange? Another element that adds to its symbolic
:49:18. > :49:22.power is its history. Which goes back to the first real Glastonbury
:49:23. > :49:30.festival, in 1971, the Glastonbury Fair. The pyramid first became a
:49:31. > :49:34.permanent structure in 1981. Made of corrugated steel and Telegraph
:49:35. > :49:40.poles. When not hosting bands it was a cow shed. In 1994, disaster
:49:41. > :49:46.struck, between Pyramid Stage burnt down. And for the rest of the '90s
:49:47. > :49:55.it was replaced by a temporary stage. In 2000 the Pyramid Stage
:49:56. > :50:00.rose from the ashes into the iconic inanation we know and love today.
:50:01. > :50:06.Christened with a gallon of work from Worthy Farm by Michael Eavis
:50:07. > :50:10.and Robert Plant. Here goes the pyramid for the third millennium. It
:50:11. > :50:18.is open! This history and near mythical status is something all
:50:19. > :50:25.artists feed on. The Pyramid Stage is a Stonehenge for British bands.
:50:26. > :50:30.An epic headline set can springboard the hottest new band to greatness
:50:31. > :50:35.and catapult an already great band into the rock stratosphere. It was
:50:36. > :50:39.sheer size of it that blew us away. To top the bill on the Pyramid Stage
:50:40. > :50:43.is an appointment with destiny. It's the stuff rock 'n' roll dreams are
:50:44. > :50:53.made of. It's the equivalent of scoring a goal at Wembley.
:50:54. > :50:58.CHEERING. I interviewed the guy who built the first one, the first
:50:59. > :51:06.Pyramid Stage. Tony, on my show yesterday on BBC 6 Music. Apparently
:51:07. > :51:10.they used recommissioned, decommissioned MOD canvas and
:51:11. > :51:16.Telegraph poles he said, in 1971. It's a beast, that stage. One tenth
:51:17. > :51:22.the size of the pyramid of Giza apparently. We'll be going to it
:51:23. > :51:27.soon. But now something intimate from a band in Birmingham, Alabama.
:51:28. > :51:40.This is St Paul and the broken bones.
:51:41. > :52:13.# But our doctors keep us high (we can't get you low)
:52:14. > :55:09.APPLAUSE. Thank you so much to Paul and the broken bones. A new album
:55:10. > :55:14.for your group this year. Thank you gentlemen. That was a pleasure.
:55:15. > :55:21.Enjoy your first Glastonbury. Some live music now. A big gig for this
:55:22. > :55:27.band from Australia. You met Tame Impala earlier. He didn't come in.
:55:28. > :55:33.He was resting his voice. I thought fair enough. Kevin was going to pop
:55:34. > :55:36.in. I said, have a herbal tea, smash it on the pyramid, and he did. Did.
:55:37. > :55:56.Good job, lad. # In the end it's stronger
:55:57. > :56:02.than I know how to be # And I can't just spend my
:56:03. > :56:10.whole lifetime wondering # I fell in love with the sound
:56:11. > :56:18.of my heels on the wooden floor # I don't want our footsteps
:56:19. > :56:26.to be silent anymore # In the end it's gone
:56:27. > :56:51.and there's nothing left to do # But I'm still not certain
:56:52. > :58:49.just how I'm gonna feel # Ooh, it's getting
:58:50. > :00:42.# Shaking his big grey trunk for the hell of it
:00:43. > :00:44.# He knows that you're dreaming about being loved by him
:00:45. > :00:50.# To get shy when they ask him who is on top
:00:51. > :00:53.# There must be something deep down in the dark down there
:00:54. > :01:01.# He's got friends but they got the fear
:01:02. > :01:06.# Wouldn't care too much if he just disappeared
:01:07. > :01:14.# Oh look see there he is now coming down the stairs
:01:15. > :02:57.# He pulled the mirrors off his Cadillac
:02:58. > :03:00.# Cos he doesn't like it looking like he looks back
:03:01. > :03:08.# He talks like his opinion is a simple fact
:03:09. > :03:15.# Somebody grabbed his collar He cried the whole way home
:03:16. > :03:23.# No one remembered a thing when they saw him again
:03:24. > :03:38.# That's how it is till the end
:03:39. > :03:58.All right. Keep it going, keep it going, Glastonbury.
:03:59. > :04:24.Keep the party going. # Someone said they left together
:04:25. > :04:31.I ran out the door to get her # She was holding hands with Trevor
:04:32. > :04:40.Not the greatest feeling ever # "You should try your
:04:41. > :04:47.luck with Heather" # Then I heard they slept together
:04:48. > :05:01.Oh the less I know the better # Oh my love can't you see
:05:02. > :05:13.yourself by my side? # No surprise when you're
:05:14. > :05:21.on his shoulder like every night # Oh my love can't you see
:05:22. > :05:29.that you're on my mind? # Don't suppose we could convince
:05:30. > :05:37.your lover to change his mind # Oh my love can't you see
:05:38. > :06:27.yourself by my side? # I don't suppose you could convince
:06:28. > :06:36.your lover to change his mind # Till I saw your face
:06:37. > :06:47.now I can't erase # Is this what you want?
:06:48. > :06:53.is this who you are? # Till I saw your eyes
:06:54. > :07:00.turn away from mine # Oh sweet darling
:07:01. > :07:04.where he wants you # Said "Come on Superman
:07:05. > :07:45.say your stupid line".# CHEERING AND APPLAUSE
:07:46. > :07:54.The sun soaked psych of Australian band Tame Impala. Isn't it as dreamy
:07:55. > :08:00.sound! Noted music for tepees, isn't it? I like it. They were on the
:08:01. > :08:04.Pyramid Stage earlier on before tonight's headliner. We saw her
:08:05. > :08:09.interview earlier on. She's played Glastonbury once in a tiny tent just
:08:10. > :08:13.before Florence And The Machine. She camped here years ago. Things have
:08:14. > :08:18.changed so much. Three albums in. 25 was the latest. She's on a mammoth
:08:19. > :08:22.World Tour at the moment. She's on like a proper health kick for it as
:08:23. > :08:26.well. She quit booze for it. She's glowing. She's on fire. We're
:08:27. > :08:30.excited about tonight. Before we bring you Adele on the Pyramid
:08:31. > :08:40.Stage, here's a bit more about your Saturday night headliner at
:08:41. > :08:44.Glastonbury 2016. Second newspaper Glastonbury 2016's
:08:45. > :08:48.hat-trick of home grown headliners is the nation, no, the world's,
:08:49. > :08:53.favourite female star. # I'll set fire to the rain
:08:54. > :08:57.# Let me photograph you in this light...
:08:58. > :09:01.# Send my love to you... # Surprisingly, this is her first
:09:02. > :09:06.official outing at Glastonbury and she's making her way straight to the
:09:07. > :09:15.top, Saturday night on the Pyramid Stage. To the Nan born Adele dreamed
:09:16. > :09:18.of following in the food steps of her heroes, Eta James and the Spice
:09:19. > :09:22.Girls. She began to write her songs at the BRIT School in Croydon. Soon
:09:23. > :09:28.she was on our screens and on the road to glory. We welcome from
:09:29. > :09:37.Brixton, Adele. # You can find him
:09:38. > :09:42.# Sitting on your doorstep # Her song spoke of the life and
:09:43. > :09:47.loves of her generation with a distinctly London accent.
:09:48. > :09:52.# Making up the past and feeling up his girl... Her debut 19, released
:09:53. > :09:57.in January 2008 went straight to number one and gave us the first in
:09:58. > :10:02.a stream of class Iqbal adds. -- classic ballads.
:10:03. > :10:07.# I've been walking in the same way... Zblt hits kept coming.
:10:08. > :10:11.# Should I give up or should I just keep chasing pavements. Please give
:10:12. > :10:16.a good cheer for the gorgeous Adele. Hello! I'm not going to talk for too
:10:17. > :10:21.long because I think speeches are really boring. Next came what some
:10:22. > :10:26.refer to as the tricky second album. # There's a fire starting in my
:10:27. > :10:32.heart... 21 stormed the top of the charts and camped out there for
:10:33. > :10:37.longer than any other album by a female solo artist in history.
:10:38. > :10:42.# We could have had it all# She's currently number one in an
:10:43. > :10:46.astonishing 17 countries. If you've ever had a broken heart, you're
:10:47. > :10:50.about to remember it. # Never mind, I'll find someone like
:10:51. > :11:01.you # I wish nothing but the best for
:11:02. > :11:09.you two. With Someone like You she gave the nation a weepy moment.
:11:10. > :11:17.So by her mid-20s, Adele was fast becoming a national treasure, making
:11:18. > :11:23.her a perfect fit to form the -- to perform the latest Bond theme.
:11:24. > :11:32.# This is the end # Hold your breath and count ten#
:11:33. > :11:37.If that wasn't honour enough, it won a Grammy, a Golden Globe and... Oh,
:11:38. > :11:42.my God. Even an Oscar. # Skyfall, when they crumble#
:11:43. > :11:49.And the fairy-tale continued, when later, in 2013, Adele was invited to
:11:50. > :11:52.the Palace to receive an MBE. After all that, Adele needed a break, in
:11:53. > :11:59.fact, she took some time off to become a mum and reflect on the
:12:00. > :12:07.phenomenon her life has become. But now, she's back. The new album, 25,
:12:08. > :12:13.has become the UK's fastest selling album of all time. She's just signed
:12:14. > :12:15.the most lucrative record deal in history.
:12:16. > :12:20.# Hello from the other side# And the biggest star on the planet
:12:21. > :12:29.is about to storm its greatest stage.
:12:30. > :12:33.What an amazing story it's been for Adele. It continues tonight here
:12:34. > :12:36.live on your tellies at Glastonbury 2016. I think tonight's headline
:12:37. > :12:39.performance, the music's incredible. I love Adele. Everyone loves Adele.
:12:40. > :12:43.Everyone's looking forward to hearing what she's got to say. Very

:40:27. > :40:32.I want to do that. I saw Prodigy, I saw Radiohead. That was when I was
:40:33. > :40:35.like, I want to be making music, not necessarily to be up on this stage,
:40:36. > :40:38.but it's amazing the way music brings people together and that's
:40:39. > :40:43.why I am so grateful you came together for me. And this festival
:40:44. > :40:48.is so amazing and magical because of the people that come. You can feel
:40:49. > :40:52.it in the earth here. I am sure you agree that you lose all your in
:40:53. > :40:55.emissions when you are here. And that is you are the people on the
:40:56. > :40:59.other side of the barriers who make this festival so incredible -- you
:41:00. > :41:04.lose your inhibitions. This is the most incredible moment of my life so
:41:05. > :41:08.far, so thank you so much. You have been amazing. I'm not sure if I will
:41:09. > :41:12.remember it. I can't even expand how I feel, it's the most surreal thing
:41:13. > :41:17.I've ever done. It is bizarre. I didn't want to come and now I don't
:41:18. > :41:20.want to go off. This song changed my life. I wrote it when I was
:41:21. > :41:26.obviously miserable, that's nothing new. We all know that. I wanted a
:41:27. > :41:30.friend in this song. I wanted to feel not so alone. And within a
:41:31. > :41:35.couple of hours of starting to write it, feeling sorry for myself, I had
:41:36. > :41:39.a bad cold, all of that, and it did its job for me. The song helped me
:41:40. > :41:43.fix might have a bit. And when I started playing it to people I know
:41:44. > :41:46.and love, they started reacting to this song very differently to
:41:47. > :41:52.anything else I had written. Then I did it on Jools Holland, and it
:41:53. > :41:57.started getting bigger all stop then I did it at the Brit awards and it
:41:58. > :42:05.completely changed my life. Nothing has been the same ever since. This
:42:06. > :42:08.is a song I feel like if anyone remembers me in years to come, this
:42:09. > :42:13.might be the song they do. I just want you to note that I will never,
:42:14. > :42:18.ever forget this moment tonight. I will never forget it. So thank you.
:42:19. > :42:23.I can't believe I haven't cried yet! And I want you to sing it with me,
:42:24. > :42:27.even if you're happy. I'm happy, I just like to moan. And I want us all
:42:28. > :42:32.to sing it. I want us not to be able to hear what each other is doing
:42:33. > :42:36.because it's so loud. Thank you for having me. I hope you have the best
:42:37. > :42:38.time ever at Glastonbury, I really do. It's amazing here. This is
:42:39. > :42:48.Someone Like You. # I heard that you're settled down
:42:49. > :43:00.rhat you found a girl # I heard that you're settled down
:43:01. > :43:03.that you found a girl # Guess she gave you things
:43:04. > :43:20.I didn't give to you # Ain't like you to hold back
:43:21. > :43:35.or hide from the light # I hate to turn up out
:43:36. > :43:38.of the blue uninvited # But I couldn't stay away
:43:39. > :43:41.I couldn't fight it # I had hoped you'd see my face
:43:42. > :43:44.and that you'd be reminded # Never mind I'll find
:43:45. > :43:55.someone like you # I wish nothing but
:43:56. > :44:04.the best for you too # Don't forget me I beg
:44:05. > :44:11.I remember you said # "Sometimes it lasts in love
:44:12. > :44:20.but sometimes it hurts instead" # Sometimes it lasts in love
:44:21. > :44:23.but sometimes it hurts instead # Only yesterday it was
:44:24. > :44:42.the time of our lives # We were born and raised
:44:43. > :44:50.in a summer haze # Bound by the surprise
:44:51. > :44:56.of our glory days # I hate to turn up out
:44:57. > :45:00.of the blue uninvited # But I couldn't stay away
:45:01. > :45:04.I couldn't fight it And that you'd be reminded that
:45:05. > :45:14.for me it isn't over # Never mind I'll find
:45:15. > :45:25.someone like you # I wish nothing
:45:26. > :45:28.but the best for you too # Don't forget me, I beg
:45:29. > :45:35.I remember you said # Sometimes it lasts in love
:45:36. > :45:42.but sometimes it hurts instead # Nothing compares
:45:43. > :45:50.no worries or cares # Regrets and mistakes
:45:51. > :45:55.and memories made # Who would have known how
:45:56. > :46:05.bittersweet this would taste? Glastonbury, do it one more time for
:46:06. > :46:13.me. Scream it. # Never mind I'll find
:46:14. > :46:15.someone like you # I wish nothing but
:46:16. > :46:17.the best for you too # Don't forget me, I beg

:46:33. > :46:37.find someone like you # I wish nothing
:46:38. > :46:48.but the best for you too # Don't forget me, I beg
:46:49. > :46:55.I remember you said # Sometimes it lasts in love
:46:56. > :47:28.but sometimes it hurts instead CHEERING AND APPLAUSE. I'll see you
:47:29. > :47:33.later. Thank you so much. I did it. I did it. Oh. Look after each other.
:47:34. > :47:44.Sing it for me, let me hear you. CHEERING.
:47:45. > :47:56.See you later. # Never mind I'll find
:47:57. > :47:58.someone like you # I wish nothing but
:47:59. > :48:01.the best for you too # Don't forget me, I beg
:48:02. > :48:05.I remember you said # Sometimes it lasts in love
:48:06. > :49:26.but sometimes it hurts instead CHEERING AND APPLAUSE. There was
:49:27. > :49:30.Adele nailing headlining the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury Festival. I
:49:31. > :49:33.hope she he cherishes every single second of that performance. Knowing
:49:34. > :49:38.how much it meanted to her from the chat we did before hand. This was
:49:39. > :49:42.her moment. She said that if she did it OK tonight then that would be as
:49:43. > :49:46.good as it ever gets. This is like the pinnacle of her career. If she
:49:47. > :49:50.messed it up it would be devastating. She said tonight was
:49:51. > :49:55.the moment in her career? It's extraordinary. I've never seen a
:49:56. > :50:00.headline act like. That there has never been a greater connection, has
:50:01. > :50:04.there, between the audience and headline audience. I have never seen
:50:05. > :50:07.anything like. She wanted the runway, get out and talk to the
:50:08. > :50:15.audience and do everything on her shows and have that connection.
:50:16. > :50:18.Somewhere as huge as that d and to have that intimacy, incredible
:50:19. > :50:22.glchlt you have a heart of stone did you almost get emotional at any
:50:23. > :50:25.point? There Were real moments. All the torch lights. I liked that. Just
:50:26. > :50:29.the torch lights? No. It was amazing. Never seen anything quite
:50:30. > :50:36.like it. That control and connection with the crowd. Clara is still down
:50:37. > :50:44.there somewhere. Clara. The crowd are still singing along. Adele,
:50:45. > :50:48.headlining the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, Saturday 2016. She left
:50:49. > :50:52.a piece of her with us emotionally and physically with these song
:50:53. > :50:57.lyrics she sprayed into the crowd. She took us on a journey from that
:50:58. > :51:00.seven-year-old girl she told us about who came here inspired by
:51:01. > :51:07.Radiohead to a woman fully in control of her career. In control of
:51:08. > :51:11.this crowd. Very happy that I gave you that swearing warning. Like
:51:12. > :51:15.said, with Adele what you see is what you get. She gives all of
:51:16. > :51:20.herself to us. We were truly, I think we were truly blessed tonight.
:51:21. > :51:26.It was really overwhelming to watch her, actually. Coming out I don't
:51:27. > :51:29.think she could believe that many people came to here her. It was
:51:30. > :51:38.evident in what we all just shared now. I'm sorry, back to you, Adele.
:51:39. > :51:44.You have our hearts. Thank you very much. She did say, Adele was like -
:51:45. > :51:48.I'm in and out. I'm coming to do it unless it goes well and then I will
:51:49. > :51:52.have a few drinks. What do you reckon she drinks? We know. She was
:51:53. > :51:57.drinking red wine and Coca-Cola mixed. I'm sure she is probably
:51:58. > :52:00.doing the same thing. Maybe. It was quite extraordinary, wasn't it,
:52:01. > :52:05.really. At one point she said - I wrote this song when I was 16. I
:52:06. > :52:10.never thought I would be on the Main Stage at Glastonbury do it. I wander
:52:11. > :52:18.if it changed the nature of headline acts much we are used to a big rock
:52:19. > :52:22.show and a finishing with a guy on a piano. It was very different.
:52:23. > :52:28.Amazing. Wonderful. OK. We have a lot more for you to enjoy tonight.
:52:29. > :52:32.We have. Acoustic sets. We have different artists performing here.
:52:33. > :53:13.We will go now to another of the headliners this is James Blake.

:03:29. > :03:48.Justin Vernon. That was James Blake, with Justin
:03:49. > :03:54.Vernon, as he says, who was here last year. On the Pyramid Stage. He
:03:55. > :03:58.was sort of duetting with Kanye West, but Kanye West would not let
:03:59. > :04:03.him stand at the front and pushed into the shadows. You had no idea he
:04:04. > :04:10.was there. James Blake was headlining on the Park Stage. I know
:04:11. > :04:15.you have this heart of stone, did that performance do anything to you?
:04:16. > :04:18.Well, I get all this stick for having a heart of stone. Anyone who
:04:19. > :04:22.knows me knows I am a deeply emotional person. Last night, Jo
:04:23. > :04:28.Whiley said it is freezing, put plenty of layers on. And look at me
:04:29. > :04:35.and look at her! When the songs are on, a load of willing acolytes, and
:04:36. > :04:40.swayed her in cloth is. Adele said to me, won't you freezing last
:04:41. > :04:44.night? Yeah, I was. And all the clothes get whipped off before we
:04:45. > :04:50.come back on, leaving Jo looking diaphanous and me looking like I
:04:51. > :04:56.have come to fix the heating. White, let's go to a band who are freezing
:04:57. > :05:39.because they have been waiting ages. He is fabulous.
:05:40. > :05:54.# a fresh one, I said you need a real one, a strong one. # a fresh

:06:40. > :06:42.# come on, if you want to have fun tonight, you need a real one, a

:07:50. > :07:55.# baby, I'm feeling super cool. # you know me, baby, I'm feeling
:07:56. > :08:04.brand-new. That was great! Moving on Astroturf
:08:05. > :08:10.is not easy. I know! Tiggs Da Author, and that was brand-new. And
:08:11. > :08:16.respect to George on the guitar. Nice work, my friend. Thank you very
:08:17. > :08:23.much. Now we are going to go to M83. I have never been sure how to say

:10:43. > :13:07.That sounded great, euphoric. It did! You look angelic tonight in
:13:08. > :13:10.this diaphanous frock. One of the drivers was ferrying us about, and
:13:11. > :13:15.he has fallen about -- in love with an angel at Gloucester bridge. He
:13:16. > :13:21.said she is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen, and she drives a
:13:22. > :13:27.tractor -- at Glastonbury. I thought it was a man! I thought he said it
:13:28. > :13:31.was a man dressed as an angel. No, he has fallen in love with a
:13:32. > :13:35.beautiful girl who drives a tractor. And in Glastonbury at the moment,
:13:36. > :13:42.with the mud underfoot, that is your dream date, a beautiful girl who has
:13:43. > :13:45.her own tractor. I am still contemplating Adele. Shouldn't cry
:13:46. > :13:49.in the whole of that performance. Just at the end. I think she now has
:13:50. > :13:58.rivers of is not pouring down her face. I am sure she is! Now to
:13:59. > :14:03.another semi unpleasant image, a propensity of bottoms in this next
:14:04. > :14:09.item, so I've been told. We are going to block nine now, beware.
:14:10. > :14:16.I thought we were supposed to be in Somerset. This doesn't look like
:14:17. > :14:23.Somerset. This is the heart of New York City, can't you tell! We took
:14:24. > :14:31.the gays, the transsexuals, the tran vestites and the butcher boys and we
:14:32. > :14:38.are giving a heighted queer experience. There will be a change
:14:39. > :14:42.happening in those dark corners. Will I experience changers? You have
:14:43. > :14:51.to get ready to be torn to pieces. Where are you taking me? The inner
:14:52. > :14:56.sanctum. I can't wait. Let's do it. My word, it's cramped in here now.
:14:57. > :14:59.These are all the dancers. We have been rehearsing for weeks. This
:15:00. > :15:03.isn't something we don't do all the time. It's a weekly thing for all
:15:04. > :15:09.these people. Do any of you have boring offices jobs? I'm an

:15:33. > :15:37.everyone. World peace. Wow! There's a lot of meat.
:15:38. > :15:48.Guys, what's good today? The sirloin or prime rib? Probably the beef
:15:49. > :15:55.livers. It sounds like quite a feast. Welcome! It's pumping babe,
:15:56. > :16:13.get in there. This is the kind of place that
:16:14. > :16:17.awakens something inside of everybody who comes here. What does
:16:18. > :16:23.it awaken inside of you, that's the question. It's like nothing I've
:16:24. > :16:28.ever seen before. You can see it again and again and again this
:16:29. > :16:34.weekend at Glastonbury. Why wouldn't you.
:16:35. > :16:41.I've seen a lot of things, a lot of Glastonburies in my time. Nothing
