:00:33. > :00:53.in... Welcome back to the first night of

:00:54. > :00:57.our Glastonbury coverage and as you join us to paraphrase the Specials

:00:58. > :01:11.this festival is coming like a Ghost Town. It's quite quiet behind us.

:01:12. > :01:17.It's only one place that people are? A quiet scene at the park. Everybody

:01:18. > :01:20.is at the Pyramid Stage. Sometimes you get one performance that gets

:01:21. > :01:23.the attention. You focus in on it. 20 years since we were here for a

:01:24. > :01:26.wet one with Radiohead, they're back. The opposite of this year

:01:27. > :01:31.weather wise. They certainly are. This set has been going for a little

:01:32. > :01:34.while. We're going to be rewinding time and bringing it to you from the

:01:35. > :01:38.beginning. Before we get, there let's turn back the clock again.

:01:39. > :01:43.They went on half an hour ago, before we see that, the full

:01:44. > :01:51.performance, let's look at a potted history of thissess teemed

:01:52. > :01:56.Oxfordshire band. From pop grunge perfection to

:01:57. > :02:00.sublime electrosound escapes, since getting together in 1985, Radiohead

:02:01. > :02:09.have become one of the most extraordinary live bands on the

:02:10. > :02:14.planet.? -- planet. Tonight they're headlining for the third time. The

:02:15. > :02:18.Quinn Ted have a unique history at Worthy Farm. It's the mother of all

:02:19. > :02:23.festivals really, Glastonbury. We've grown up with it. We grew up going

:02:24. > :02:35.to it. It was and is still the biggest show you'll do. Their first

:02:36. > :02:41.appearance was back in 1994. Sandwiched between I think oasis and

:02:42. > :02:48.Blur. What happened this them? Did they do anything after that? Yeah.

:02:49. > :02:54.Yeah. The undeniable power of that first show was just a prelude to

:02:55. > :03:06.their headline set three years later, shortly after the release of

:03:07. > :03:10.album OK Computer. We were bricking. It Yeah, yeah,

:03:11. > :03:18.that's my memory. That would be probably the right term technology.

:03:19. > :03:23.I do remember just that real sense of impoter syndrome, they can't be

:03:24. > :03:38.serious, us doing the Saturday night? It was very wet, muddy.

:03:39. > :03:43.Rain-o-head. On top of the wrath of Mother Nature, band be we set by

:03:44. > :03:48.technical difficulties. Neck nickically it was a -- technically

:03:49. > :03:53.it was a disaster. Tom came over me and said, "I'm going off after the

:03:54. > :04:00.next song." I remember coming off and thinking we probably had done

:04:01. > :04:05.one of our worst shows ever. Thankfully Tom stuck around. It

:04:06. > :04:10.turned out to be one of the greatest nights in Glastonbury history.

:04:11. > :04:21.Radiohead played the top slot again in 2003. And did a secret gig at the

:04:22. > :04:26.park in to 11. But 20 years since their water shed 1997 show, they're

:04:27. > :04:31.back to headline the Pyramid Stage. It's the greatest festival. It's the

:04:32. > :04:33.one where you leave on a Monday and you have your faith restored in

:04:34. > :04:45.humanity. # If you could take it all back

:13:11. > :13:14.Incredibly impressive. Didn't you? Yeah, no, absolutely loved it. I

:13:15. > :13:17.know there will be conjecture and debate, people saying we just wanted

:13:22. > :13:25.they play and those songs. I could not fault that prnks. It meant the

:13:26. > :13:28.-- performance. It meant the most to them as well. They constructed how

:13:29. > :13:33.that went together. You could see how much it meant to them. Loved it.

:13:34. > :13:38.I don't care about people who didn't. I think that Radiohead at

:13:39. > :13:41.Glastonbury, if they had just done the hits, I would have been

:13:42. > :13:45.disappointed with that. You want a surprise in the set list. My

:13:46. > :13:52.favourite song tonight was Nude. It was stew pen does. It isn't one of

:13:53. > :13:55.the biggest songs. If you don't like Radiohead, you will see something

:17:48. > :17:51.was here earlier when I was doing the show with Huw. She joined Major

:17:52. > :17:56.Lazer on the other stayed a while ago. That was a very different

:17:57. > :18:01.flavour to Radiohead. That is the beauty of Glastonbury. You can watch

:18:02. > :18:05.Radiohead, Major Lazer or go elsewhere. Flaming lips had an

:18:06. > :18:14.extraordinary show. I watched a bit of that. I just missed a couple of

:18:15. > :18:21.Radiohead songs. Call yourself a Radiohead fan? We have a performance

:18:22. > :18:24.in our studio area. These two are going to play for us now. This is

:18:25. > :18:48.Nadia Rose. Big up my mum and dad. Guess who?

:18:49. > :19:05.Like you never left. I rose from the dead. I'm your worst nightmare.

:28:38. > :28:49.are not far from some Anderson pack. Sleaford Mods as well.

:28:50. > :28:55.Didn't you share a car with when Coyle as well? So there is loads of

:28:56. > :29:00.stuff happening here apart from the bands on the main stages. Our friend

:29:01. > :29:01.Yasser has been out and about, investigating ten years of Glasto

:29:02. > :29:11.Latino. I've been to the Glade and now I'm

:29:12. > :29:19.in Glasto Latino. Alison is with me. What is going on? What is happening?

:29:20. > :29:23.This is Glasto Latino, one of the hottest spots on site. This is where

:29:24. > :29:28.you get Latin music at its best. It's one thing that we can add to

:29:29. > :29:33.the festival that adds spice, passion and flavour. I love it. The

:29:34. > :29:38.energy is electric in here. How long have you been going for? This is our

:29:39. > :29:47.tenth anniversary. We've got the best bands ever. These guys are from

:29:48. > :29:53.Panama. They play Cuban music. Wow. You had to bring themming over to

:29:54. > :30:00.Glastonbury -- them. What has the reception been from people over ten

:30:01. > :30:03.years? Fantastic. Listen, I can't help but move my hips. I think we

:30:04. > :30:12.have to dance. It's the only way now. Shall we go in? OK.

:30:13. > :30:16.That's the great thing. There are so many things happening. People are

:30:17. > :30:22.having their own little festival without going near Radiohead or

:30:23. > :30:25.anything else. There's a club down here calling funkingham Palace,

:38:31. > :38:33.Apologies if that link started slightly oddly. We were distracted

:38:46. > :38:51.That's the flavour of the West Holts. Toot and the may tolds are

:43:00. > :43:03.APPLAUSE STUDIO: What a showman, hey. The

:43:04. > :43:08.funny thing with them was if you can imagine this, we had Elbow as the

:43:09. > :43:12.surprise guests earlier on. It was beautiful and the mood was magical

:43:13. > :43:18.and it was gorgeous. Flaming Lips were going to come on and then

:43:19. > :43:24.Sleaford MoDs came on, great. They cast their own spell. Introduced by

:43:25. > :43:27.Lord bucket head who stood against Theresa May in the Maidenhead

:43:28. > :43:32.election. Great. So much going on. I went across to see a bit of Flaming

:43:33. > :43:37.Lips. I was distracted into a little stage I didn't know existed. There

:43:38. > :43:40.was a great band from Northern Ireland. They were new to me called

:43:41. > :43:54.Ruse. Rews. They Ireland. They were new to me called

:43:55. > :44:00.Ruse. Rews. ewanted to call them fuse and troos, but Rews. James went

:44:01. > :44:08.out to this magical area called the common and he met with Victoria clip

:44:09. > :44:11.slayer. -- Sinclair. They're exploring the link between rave

:44:12. > :44:38.culture and chezmanism. Creator Bob, give us strength. Use

:44:39. > :44:44.this medicine to help unify us and see things to enlighten us. If we

:44:45. > :44:52.all just take a sip together, invite the medicine into your body, into

:44:53. > :44:57.your spirit. It is surprisingly chunky, but I am feeling a little

:44:58. > :45:06.pepped up. What is in it? There are ceremonial Krakow from the Amazon,

:45:07. > :45:13.then some medicines and summer mead, a ancient drink. Whenever I drink

:45:14. > :45:27.this medicine, I definitely felt a connection to my ancestors back

:45:28. > :45:35.home. I think the cacao is kicking in. Where are we going now? To the

:45:36. > :45:41.temple. What do you do, Sue? I'm a razor. We need the vibes. We are a

:45:42. > :45:47.massive family. What can we expect from this place behind me? This is a

:45:48. > :45:51.techno- shaman paradise. There is a thing about repetitive beats that

:45:52. > :45:54.the rave culture has, and the shamanic drumming of the journeying

:45:55. > :46:01.is very similar. The beats per minute are very similar. The spirit

:46:02. > :46:05.that the tribal elders get into, where they commune with nature, is

:46:06. > :46:10.similar to these trancelike state that people have been evolving into

:46:11. > :46:16.at raves. When you're in the rave and the crescendo is coming up,

:46:17. > :46:26.described that to me. Orgasm! Let's get in there.

:46:27. > :46:48.There is a lot of energy this year. I have definitely found my spiritual

:46:49. > :46:57.side. Now I am just going to get lost in the beat.

:46:58. > :47:00.So there you go, all explained, the hitherto unsuspected link between

:47:01. > :47:05.ancient shaman is and rave culture. So now we know. You know those

:47:06. > :47:12.shopping channels you watch late into the night? That is what this is

:47:13. > :47:18.now. So we are showing over 100, although you can choose from 100

:47:19. > :47:22.different performances. All you have to do is go to BBC .co .uk/

:47:23. > :47:28.Glastonbury and when you are there, you can choose any stage. There are

:47:29. > :47:32.six stages. There is the Pyramid Stage, The Other Stage, the BBC

:47:33. > :47:42.Introducing stage, the West Holts Stage, the Park Stage, which is

:47:43. > :47:46.where we are. Anyway, get your device or your tablet and choose

:47:47. > :47:51.your stage, click on it and then you can stream the performance as it is

:47:52. > :47:54.going out live. We are also selling these tablets. Villa and the clothes

:47:55. > :48:06.on our back. We are taking orders. Anyway, one of

:48:07. > :48:09.the performances this afternoon was when Lorde was playing on The Other

:48:10. > :48:12.Stage. Quite an interesting performance. I don't know whether we

:48:13. > :48:48.have captured the dancers. Hopefully, we have.
