0:09:21 > 0:09:25- It's based on Irvine Welsh's book.

0:09:27 > 0:09:31- I was drawn to Irvine Welsh's - stories...

0:09:31 > 0:09:34- ..because his style of writing...

0:09:34 > 0:09:39- ..turns something - that's quite extreme and dark...

0:09:39 > 0:09:42- ..into something so extreme - it's hilarious.

0:09:43 > 0:09:45- I really like the dark humour.

0:09:50 > 0:09:55- In terms of clothes, - I like anything with lots of colour.

0:10:02 > 0:10:06- The reason why I make - my own clothes, like this skirt...

0:10:49 > 0:10:54- If there's a piece of wood here - long enough, I'll have painted it!

0:10:59 > 0:11:02- I like doing people and faces.

0:11:03 > 0:11:08- Having had a base in life drawing - in college has helped me do that.

0:11:11 > 0:11:17- The challenge when making puppets - is doing the face...

0:11:17 > 0:11:21- ..because the face contains - the puppet's different emotions.

0:11:21 > 0:11:27- It has to be an expressive face but - which doesn't say too much either.

0:11:43 > 0:11:43- .

0:11:48 > 0:11:48- Subtitles

0:11:48 > 0:11:50- Subtitles- - Subtitles

0:11:53 > 0:11:54- Don't trust anyone

0:11:54 > 0:11:56- Dreaming the future

0:11:57 > 0:12:00- Can people dream the future?

0:12:01 > 0:12:05- Well, one psychologist - researched into it in the '60s.

0:12:05 > 0:12:09- That man was Dr J C Barker.

0:12:10 > 0:12:13- In 1966, - after the Aberfan disaster...

0:12:14 > 0:12:17- ..when a huge - landslide of coal waste...

0:12:17 > 0:12:21- ..came down the mountain - and engulfed a primary school...

0:12:21 > 0:12:23- ..killing 144 people.

0:12:23 > 0:12:26- Dr Barker, - who lived close to Aberfan...

0:12:26 > 0:12:30- ..contacted the science editor - of the London Evening Standard...

0:12:30 > 0:12:34- ..in order to publish an appeal - asking anyone...

0:12:34 > 0:12:38- ..who'd foreseen or dreamt about - the tragedy before it happened.

0:12:39 > 0:12:43- Dr Barker was therefore looking - for people who'd seen the future.

0:12:44 > 0:12:46- Over the following weeks...

0:12:46 > 0:12:51- ..76 people got in touch saying - they had foreseen the disaster.

0:12:52 > 0:12:56- From the 76, 60 were considered - to be worth further research.

0:12:57 > 0:13:01- Barker contacted the 60 asking them - to send the names and addresses...

0:13:02 > 0:13:05- ..of witnesses who'd heard - about the dream or vision...

0:13:05 > 0:13:07- ..before the tragedy happened.

0:13:08 > 0:13:10- Someone who could confirm...

0:13:10 > 0:13:15- ..that the correspondents had dreamt - about Aberfan before the tragedy.

0:13:16 > 0:13:20- Barker received confirmation - about 24 of the cases.

0:13:20 > 0:13:23- Mrs Eagleton said she'd dreamt...

0:13:23 > 0:13:27- ..that a tragedy had happened - in a mining village.

0:13:28 > 0:13:32- She saw mountains of coal and water - rushing down the valley...

0:13:32 > 0:13:35- ..and swallowing a building - full of children.

0:13:35 > 0:13:39- The screaming was so realistic - she woke herself screaming.

0:13:39 > 0:13:43- This was exactly a week - before the tragedy.

0:13:43 > 0:13:47- So, the question asked by Barker...

0:13:47 > 0:13:52- ..was whether this phenomenon - could be used to save lives.

0:13:53 > 0:13:57- As you can imagine, experts - were very sceptical of the research.

0:13:58 > 0:14:02- They said that the probability was - high for at least one person...

0:14:02 > 0:14:05- ..to dream about similar events...

0:14:05 > 0:14:08- ..considering the size - of the British population.

0:14:09 > 0:14:12- But, Professor Richard Wiseman - has done the sums.

0:14:13 > 0:14:15- He's worked out that the chances...

0:14:15 > 0:14:19- ..of someone dreaming about - a memorable event by chance...

0:14:19 > 0:14:23- ..before it happened without - any paranormal interference...

0:14:23 > 0:14:26- ..is 22,000 to 1.

0:14:26 > 0:14:29- That means, - in Britain at that time...

0:14:29 > 0:14:30- ..in the '60s...

0:14:31 > 0:14:32- ..up to 2,000 people...

0:14:32 > 0:14:36- ..could have dreamt about - the tragedy before it happened.

0:14:37 > 0:14:41- In the '60s as well, scientists - offered a scientific explanation...

0:14:41 > 0:14:43- ..to premonitory dreams.

0:14:44 > 0:14:48- Someone can have a nightmare - they don't remember...

0:14:48 > 0:14:51- ..but they remember - having a nightmare.

0:14:51 > 0:14:54- Later, when they see - a tragedy on the news...

0:14:54 > 0:14:57- ..the pictures they see - are absorbed by the brain...

0:14:58 > 0:14:59- ..and fill the blank.

0:14:59 > 0:15:04- That person will believe they dreamt - of the tragedy before it happened.

0:15:04 > 0:15:10- So, did Dr J C Barker prove - that people can dream the future?

0:15:11 > 0:15:16- No. Unfortunately, it's not possible - to use dreams to save lives.

0:15:17 > 0:15:18- Yet.

0:15:18 > 0:15:20- Thanks for watching.

0:15:20 > 0:15:24- Remember, keep your eyes open - and don't trust anyone.
