:15:31. > :15:37.Deap Vally with their marvellous record.

:15:37. > :15:40.Baby I Call Hell. So I'm now - it seems incredible that this band

:15:40. > :15:44.have really been around for 35 years and this is the first time

:15:44. > :15:47.we've had them on the show. We've enjoyed having Orchestral

:15:47. > :15:57.Manoeuvers in the Dark over there a moment ago. Here is Paul Humphreys

:15:57. > :16:02.and Andy McLusky. Now, congratulations. Excellent OMD

:16:02. > :16:06.record here. The first thing, this English Elect Rick, where does this

:16:07. > :16:12.title come from? It is the name of a British company in the '50s and

:16:12. > :16:15.'60 called English Electric. They made things for the future,

:16:15. > :16:19.locomotives and the first supercomputer and aircraft for the

:16:19. > :16:23.Royal Airforce. They were complais basteically making the future. --

:16:23. > :16:27.they were basically making the future. We started trying to make

:16:27. > :16:32.music for the future. They went bust. We haven't yetment 35 years

:16:32. > :16:35.later, we still doing it. Out of the future, you anticipated - the

:16:35. > :16:40.future you anticipated has been cancelled. That's what it says in

:16:40. > :16:44.here. It does. Was the future that you imagined, all those years ago,

:16:44. > :16:47.that's now the present we are in, is it very different the present we

:16:47. > :16:56.are, in to how you imagined it was going to be? I don't think we

:16:56. > :17:00.anticipated we wouldnd up in a post- -modern era when things went

:17:00. > :17:07.around kind of reverentially. The future seems to be self-referring

:17:07. > :17:11.now. We thought we'd get to 2013 and we'd all be in flying cards

:17:11. > :17:19.and... Mobile phones and what have you. We'd all live for 200 years.

:17:19. > :17:24.They were all kind of crazy ideas. We didn't get there. Were you both

:17:24. > :17:29.modernists. You remember you came on the Tube, which must have been

:17:29. > :17:37.on 1981, you had the most modern technology available making this

:17:37. > :17:44.unique, mazeing music. We had sem afor flags and decided to mime our

:17:44. > :17:47.song -- semaphor. You had a typewriter. You have a

:17:47. > :17:52.great memory. The musical technology is incredible. We didn't

:17:52. > :17:57.know what happened with the internet and MP3s and the music we

:17:57. > :18:03.are using now, we couldn't have dreamed off. Do you have some of

:18:03. > :18:07.those old instruments from years ago and treasure them? We have all

:18:07. > :18:12.our early sinths. Well, we don't have them. When we got back

:18:12. > :18:16.together, we had to buy them off ebai. The ones we used to have are

:18:16. > :18:21.broken. -- off eBay. We are sound- specific. So we had to get them

:18:21. > :18:25.that made the sound. We ended up bidding against each other. It is

:18:25. > :18:32.hard. I think I bought back something of mine that didn't work.

:18:32. > :18:39.We have a clip from Top of the Pops from 1982.

:18:39. > :18:49.# Joan of Arc # Had a heart

:18:49. > :19:22.

:19:22. > :19:30.# But she gave it as a gift Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark.

:19:30. > :19:34.Beautiful, yes. Thank you. Looking back. Was there

:19:35. > :19:38.ning you would change? The sweaters, probably. -- Was there anything you

:19:38. > :19:42.wo change? You have always been at the cutting edge of technology and

:19:42. > :19:46.doing things. At home are you great modern technologists. Does your

:19:46. > :19:49.fridge automatically open with the perfect thing and the house kept at

:19:49. > :19:53.a perfect temperature? Maybe not quite to that level. Personally

:19:53. > :19:58.I've always been a bit of a geek, really and had a love for

:19:58. > :20:06.technology. So, yeah, my studio is hyper modern and my home is pretty

:20:06. > :20:12.modern as well. Anything old at all? You. Me. You have to have one

:20:12. > :20:19.element. Like the end of 2000 1, with the astronauts. He has all the

:20:19. > :20:22.modernist stuff but gets old in the middle. What am I saying? It has

:20:22. > :20:25.been fantastic to have you as guests. Paul and Andy from

:20:25. > :20:30.Orchestral Manoeuvers in the Dark. Now the person who first appeared

:20:30. > :20:35.on the show with just a guitar is back with just a guitar. She has an

:20:35. > :20:45.incredible album out. She is going to be performing from it. We

:20:45. > :20:46.

:20:46. > :20:56.# I'm growing like a seed # Rain's been falling on me

:27:35. > :28:29.Apology for the loss of subtitles for 43 seconds

:28:29. > :28:35.Thank you, Beady Eye. We will be chatting to some of them later.

:28:35. > :28:45.Before that we enjoyed KT Tunstall. Now, we visit a lovely poet from

:28:45. > :28:54.

:28:54. > :29:04.north London, please, welcome, This is a poem about a craze. This

:29:04. > :29:09.

:29:09. > :29:14.craze is a phrase. Now this phrase of a phrase is hopefully a phase.

:29:14. > :29:17.Yolo stands for, you only live once. This goes for my generation. I'm

:29:18. > :29:21.here to say, say something everyone knows. Millions of people in the

:29:21. > :29:26.last six months just recently discovered, you only live once. She

:29:26. > :29:31.took hers off, rip yours off. Now dance on stage until your wig falls

:29:31. > :29:36.off and ignore the consequences at all costs. Convince yourselves this

:29:36. > :29:40.isn't your loss. That the last time I say Yolo. I staggered from the

:29:40. > :29:44.left to the right and I still can't remember the rest of the night.

:29:44. > :29:51.It's not even comishing it's a par. I told my friend, I'm sorry for the

:29:51. > :29:54.vomit in your car, but you know, bror, yolo. It's an inefficient

:29:54. > :30:01.reminder that inhibitions are mine ofrplt release is a must like a

:30:01. > :30:05.proper safe account. Cos life' like a calculator and a dealer's amount

:30:05. > :30:10.of paper. I live for the moment reassess what I'm prepared to give

:30:11. > :30:20.for the moment. Allow my focus to symbolise to the movement

:30:20. > :30:24.symbolised this drink. Means less likely I'm not to shairt detail and

:30:24. > :30:28.increased the times I forgot to wear a seatbelt. See, girls, we

:30:28. > :30:31.males, we could toast to a good health but we toast to getting

:30:31. > :30:37.wrong. And we say that we're young and we're supposed to get it wrong,

:30:37. > :30:41.that' why we get lean as opposed to getting strong. Go to the gym and

:30:41. > :30:45.work on our upper body strength but we hardly go on treds cogs that's

:30:45. > :30:48.card yes and legs. See we're short- sighted we don't know what that

:30:48. > :30:52.foresielgt is. That's the reason why we laugh whole heartedly. You

:30:52. > :30:59.work in an office and your day's a drg, on the which it the station,

:30:59. > :31:04.race a jag. Then wipe the sweat from your face and brag about your

:31:04. > :31:08.newfound Jason Stathamswag, that's called Yolo. But I could lose a

:31:08. > :31:11.brer this fell out with me and that would bother the hell out of me. So

:31:11. > :31:15.I'm tearing and calling him up in the prison, hearing him falling in

:31:15. > :31:21.love with the vision of when he's here and we can ball in another

:31:21. > :31:23.division and you hear from me that all of the brothers have risen. I'm

:31:23. > :31:27.repeated myself. All my po recommends starting to sound the

:31:27. > :31:31.same, which is koorblgs as long as my heart isn't down the drain. I

:31:31. > :31:39.wouldn't even mind getting martyred without the fame because you only

:31:39. > :31:44.live once. You've got to make it count. As much as it's a reason to

:31:44. > :31:49.go mad in a rave I'm so gld it's a wave cos this one makes sense. It's

:31:49. > :31:54.just used to justify laft dumb statements. But those after-effects

:31:54. > :32:00.do stick with me, though, so if I use yes low to help me sin, why

:32:00. > :32:06.wouldn't I use it to help me win. I could get wasted and buzz about for

:32:06. > :32:10.days. This is something everyone doesn't like to say but breathing

:32:10. > :32:15.is a luxury could die today but I would like change like a shopkeeper.

:32:15. > :32:19.I cannot ignore the fact that life is deeper. Some stuff isn't worth

:32:19. > :32:24.the bull. Some of that dumb diverve isn't reversible. I tell myself

:32:24. > :32:28.don't go 250 crazy, Yolo could leave you with a whole new baby. Or,

:32:28. > :32:33.if not, the prospect of terminating one. We find germinateing fun but

:32:33. > :32:37.learning ain't the one and some of them STIs can burn and they can bun

:32:37. > :32:43.and if I'm very loose and you see me with the pills and the cranberry

:32:43. > :32:46.juice, you'll be looking at me like I'm actually scrum. So the point is,

:32:46. > :32:51.Yolo doesn't have to be dumb. There is no doubt in my brain you can

:32:51. > :32:55.change the world. I'd go out of my way to prove it. But if the stake's

:32:55. > :32:59.too high, you've got it take it doub. I said if the stake's too

:32:59. > :33:09.high you've got to take it down. You only live once. You've got to

:33:09. > :33:26.

:33:26. > :33:32.So, I'm delighted to say I'm here with Miguel.

:33:32. > :33:37.Yes. Now, it's excellent to have you

:33:37. > :33:42.here. First of all, did you like George? It's the first time I'm

:33:42. > :33:47.hearing his poetry. I'm so inspired. It was awesome to watch and listen

:33:47. > :33:50.to a great message be told in a language I can understand. It's

:33:51. > :33:56.incredible. Now you've had incredible success. Time mag zaen

:34:05. > :34:08.through the roof. How this is been? You must be feeling positive?

:34:08. > :34:13.a blessing to have an audience and people pay attention to your art.

:34:13. > :34:19.You know, we intend on making the most of it and having a great time

:34:19. > :34:24.doing it. Tonight you were doing a show, some shows with Lisa Yeates.

:34:24. > :34:27.My birthday I think is the next day from her. Did she tell you anything

:34:27. > :34:31.about the show? She said - you are going to love. Was she cross you

:34:31. > :34:36.had to come away like this? No, I think she was excited for me and

:34:36. > :34:43.she was kind of like - oh, you need to do this, you should be do it. We

:34:43. > :34:46.will be OK over here. Congrtlations on your tremendous success, which

:42:51. > :42:55.Miguel. Thank you. And now I'm joined at the piano by

:42:55. > :43:00.the wonderful KT Tunstall. Lovely to see you. Hello. Now, at the love

:43:01. > :43:05.you here. You have this great, lovely, lovely record. It seems to

:43:05. > :43:09.have changed since your last record. What was the motivation behind this

:43:09. > :43:15.record? Very different. I just got really inspired to make a record

:43:15. > :43:18.that was just all about voice which, weirdly I have not done yet. I

:43:18. > :43:22.proceeded myself with this package that was rhythm and guitar and

:43:22. > :43:27.writing and performing and never really just trusted singing. So

:43:27. > :43:33.this is' what this was about. It was old songs from the heart. A

:43:33. > :43:36.very emotional record where I'd been really into sound and

:43:36. > :43:41.production, this is definitely about sitting and playing again.

:43:41. > :43:44.Based on difficult experiences and a fantastic lovely gentle piano and

:43:44. > :43:49.guitar, very stripped down. A lovely record. But the voice is

:43:49. > :43:54.great, as a thing? It is a human instrument which we all have, and

:43:54. > :43:58.you can sing in all different styles. I mean, give us the two

:43:58. > :44:01.different types of ranges? How would you describe one end and the

:44:01. > :44:09.other end? When I first started singing, I didn't really start

:44:09. > :44:15.until I was about 14 or 15. And I just naturally graph taited towards

:44:15. > :44:21.a blues voice. It's always been a very natural place for me. But all

:44:21. > :44:25.the time I've written upbeat songs and knees-up pub songs I've always

:44:25. > :44:29.written ballads at the same time, so there has always been this

:44:29. > :44:34.softer voice that I've had. I think from busking you get used to

:44:34. > :44:40.yelling all the time. It is also very addictive, getting a crowd

:44:40. > :44:44.jumping. And, so, sometimes the quieter stuff just gets trampled.

:44:44. > :44:52.Another voice you have - because you did some shows with my big band.

:44:52. > :45:02.You can sing like an old-styley voice as well. I would love that.

:45:02. > :45:04.What have we go the there # Like the beat, beat, beat of the

:45:04. > :45:10.tomtom$$NEWLINE# When the junkle shadows fall

:45:10. > :45:15.# Like the tick, tick, tock of the stately clock up against the wall

:45:15. > :45:22.# Like the drip, drip, drip of the rain drops

:45:22. > :45:27.# When the sun would shower through # I hear a voice inside repeating

:45:27. > :45:35.you, you, you... # Night and day

:45:36. > :45:45.# You are the one. # Only you beneath the moon

:45:46. > :45:50.

:45:50. > :45:54.# And under the sun # And it won't be through until you

:45:55. > :46:04.let me spend my life making love to # Day and night

:46:05. > :46:05.

:46:05. > :46:12.# Night and day # Keep in the heart of me

:46:12. > :46:18.# There is such a hungry yearning burning inside of me
