:11:53. > :12:07.fast lane, speed up # It ain't no game, just turn up all

:12:08. > :12:18.Very good, Caravan Palace. Now we have international artists and

:12:19. > :12:29.brand-new artists and great legends and we have a great legends now in

:12:30. > :12:37.the form of Judy Collins. Thank you. I am a great fan of your work, as is

:12:38. > :12:44.Guy Garvey, he is a fan. It is great you are here. You have made a new

:12:45. > :12:54.record with a lot of different artists called Strangers Again, but

:12:55. > :13:04.they are all friends. Are they all your friends? Yes, they are and they

:13:05. > :13:09.are all wonderful singers. I thought Jeff Bridges would want to sing one

:13:10. > :13:18.song with me, but he wanted something else. Don Maclean said, I

:13:19. > :13:28.do not want to sing Vincent with you and I do not want to sing American

:13:29. > :13:34.Pie, I want to sing Sends In The Client. You have a history of doing

:13:35. > :13:39.interesting songs and shining a light on great songwriters like

:13:40. > :13:45.Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell. What attracts you

:13:46. > :13:54.It is falling in love, Jools. It's something inexplicable. If I know

:13:55. > :14:00.it's right, I never look back and I don't question it. So I have

:14:01. > :14:08.rejected a lot of songs unsung, but the ones I hold dear are beautiful

:14:09. > :14:20.songs. Here is... I mean, how could you not fall in love with that? It's

:14:21. > :14:24.amazing. A beautiful melody. And I have been lucky because I have found

:14:25. > :14:28.these wonderful writers. Leonard came to see me out of the blue, a

:14:29. > :14:34.friend of mine said, I know this Canadian, he is so wonderful and the

:14:35. > :14:38.right obscure songs. And then she said, he has started to write songs,

:14:39. > :14:49.and I said, are they obscure? And she said, or yes. So then he sang me

:14:50. > :14:53.Suzanne, and I have never recorded a stranger song. But one day I will.

:14:54. > :14:57.One of the songs on my new CD, I decided I had to do hallelujah

:14:58. > :15:06.because everyone else has done it. I took a turn. Turn, Turn, Turn, which

:15:07. > :15:11.is a Pete Seeger song. Based on a biblical passage. We have got a bit

:15:12. > :15:22.of that powerful song here. Let's look.

:15:23. > :15:29.# At time of love, time of hate. # A time of war, a time of peace.

:15:30. > :15:42.# 8-iron you may embrace. # A time to refrain.

:15:43. > :15:49.# From embracing. # To everything, turn, turn, turn.

:15:50. > :16:00.# There is a season, turn, turn, turn.

:16:01. > :16:06.# And time to every under heaven. -- and a time to every purpose under

:16:07. > :16:11.heaven. That is fantastic. Fantastic, I don't think I have ever

:16:12. > :16:16.seen that before. It was from a night in person, it says. And the

:16:17. > :16:24.guitarist is the great Eric of iceberg. And playing bass, Chuck

:16:25. > :16:30.Israel. It has been a long time since I have seen that. It will be

:16:31. > :16:35.on the BBC iPlayer now. Tune in again. It is fantastic that you are

:16:36. > :16:41.here, and you are going to be doing two songs now. With you. We're

:16:42. > :16:49.looking forward to that. Thank you for joining us, Judy Collins. We

:16:50. > :16:56.will look forward to hearing more. Her wonderful voice. Our next

:16:57. > :17:00.artist, his second album is about to come out. Maybe even today. We are

:17:01. > :17:13.delighted to have him here, Jamie Woon.

:17:14. > :17:38.# Come back - bodies aching from the want and the waiting

:17:39. > :18:10.# Take it back and then let it go

:18:11. > :18:16.# Every day is the day that you saved me

:18:17. > :18:23.# Light into darkness cut on the sharpness of you

:18:24. > :18:31.# Never been so inside and falling into you

:18:32. > :18:42.# You can't fall unless you feel it

:18:43. > :18:49.# Bodies aching from the want and the waiting

:18:50. > :18:52.# I get this pain when you're leaving

:18:53. > :19:10.# Take it back and then let it go

:19:11. > :19:24.# Every day is the day that you saved me

:19:25. > :19:48.# Light into darkness, cut on the sharpness of you

:19:49. > :19:58.# Bodies aching from the want and the waiting

:19:59. > :20:17.# Take it back and then let it go

:20:18. > :21:00.# There are places I remember all my life

:21:01. > :21:21.# All these places have their meanings

:21:22. > :21:25.# With lovers and friends I still can recall

:21:26. > :21:56.# But of all these friends and lovers

:21:57. > :22:04.# And these memories lose their meaning

:22:05. > :22:10.# When I think of love as something new

:22:11. > :22:16.# Though I know I'll never lose affection

:22:17. > :22:22.# For people and things that went before

:22:23. > :22:27.# I know I'll often stop and think about them

:22:28. > :23:17.The beautiful voice of Judy Collins. Before that we enjoyed

:23:18. > :23:34.Jamie Woon. A track from his album. And now we welcome, Guy Garvey.

:23:35. > :23:40.# In the hills it's an overcoat colder

:23:41. > :23:49.# If big things, life things are waves at your door

:23:50. > :24:26.# You're out with a friend in the capital

:24:27. > :24:32.# I'm a thousand leagues under the sea

:24:33. > :24:38.# You're hovering worriedly over your eggs

:24:39. > :25:03.# In the hills it's an overcoat colder

:25:04. > :25:15.# If big things, life things are waves at your door

:25:16. > :25:51.# You're out with a friend in the capital

:25:52. > :25:57.# I'm a thousand leagues under the sea

:25:58. > :26:04.# You're hovering worriedly over your eggs

:26:05. > :26:51.# I'm the son of a saint, and a leader of men. # And I'm neither of

:26:52. > :26:58.them about time more. # I'll build us a house out of

:26:59. > :27:04.wrestle rock shale. # With some everyday windows and any

:27:05. > :27:18.time roofers. # And I'll open door.

:27:19. > :27:19.# To you and yours. # Just pondering trees for you and

:27:20. > :27:51.me. The delicious sound of Guy Garvey's

:27:52. > :27:55.voice. Courting the squall, from the album of the same title. Now we

:27:56. > :28:00.welcome from New York a husband and wife, incredible musicians. Please

:28:01. > :28:39.give it up for Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn.

:28:40. > :28:57.# Can't you hear the whistle blowin'

:28:58. > :29:05.# Can't you hear the captain shouting

:29:06. > :29:27.# Someone's in the kitchen with Dinah

:29:28. > :29:35.# Someone's in the kitchen with Dinah

:29:36. > :29:38.# Strummin' on the ole banjo and singin'

:30:46. > :31:31.# One day I'm gonna own this railroad

:32:14. > :32:32.and Jamie Woon. # Walking down the block, waiting

:32:33. > :32:46.for the traffic lights to stop again.

:33:22. > :33:23.fine for the living # Called this, called this a celebration if you

:33:24. > :33:35.want. # Strolling in the shadow of the

:33:36. > :34:10.early morning sun. # Shuffling, the dice are going to

:34:11. > :34:13.roll again today. # Water commerce and water goes

:34:14. > :34:31.away. Making time and a living.

:34:32. > :34:44.# This one smile more forgiving. # Feeling fine for the living.

:34:45. > :34:58.# Call this, call this a celebration.

:34:59. > :35:00.# If you want. Strolling with the shadows in the

:35:46. > :35:54.# Don't stop now. # Up on your feet, shake it out,

:35:55. > :36:07.don't look back. # Called this, called this a

:36:08. > :36:10.celebration if you want. Strolling with the shadows in the

:36:11. > :36:49.early morning sun. # Bows and flows of angel hair

:36:50. > :37:13.# And ice cream castles in the air # But now they only block the sun

:37:14. > :37:30.# They rain and snow on everyone # So many things I would have done

:37:31. > :37:37.# But clouds got in my way # I've looked at clouds from both

:37:38. > :37:44.sides now # The dizzy dancing way you feel

:37:45. > :38:17.# When every fairy tale comes real # And if you care don't let them

:38:18. > :38:32.know # I've looked at love from both

:38:33. > :38:41.sides now # From win and lose and still

:38:42. > :38:46.somehow # To say, "I love you" right out

:38:47. > :39:12.loud # Dreams and schemes and circus

:39:13. > :39:20.crowds # But now old friends are acting

:39:21. > :39:25.strange # They shake their heads, they say

:39:26. > :39:28.I've changed # But something's lost, but

:39:29. > :39:34.something's gained # I've looked at life from both

:39:35. > :39:42.sides now # From win and lose and still

:39:43. > :40:36.somehow The wonderful voice of Judy Collins.

:40:37. > :40:48.It came out in 1967. Before that we enjoyed Jamie Woon with Willie

:40:49. > :40:55.Mason. Welcome to the show, it is nice to see you both. That is a very

:40:56. > :41:00.different sort of record, if I might say so. It is your second album

:41:01. > :41:11.together. How did you hook up together? We met on the road. We met

:41:12. > :41:17.on the road and my band took these guys on the road. I was a fan

:41:18. > :41:24.before. We started talking, as you do. Let's do something, and we did

:41:25. > :41:28.not think anything would come of it. We made a record and this is a

:41:29. > :41:36.continuation and this is what came out. Do the same sort of things

:41:37. > :41:42.inspire you both? That is why it is easy to work with Dave because we

:41:43. > :41:46.are on the same page. It is like an effortless place. We like the same

:41:47. > :41:52.records, we like to work with the same musicians. There is no

:41:53. > :42:00.conflict, which is rare. Tell us what records you both like. Ray

:42:01. > :42:10.Charles, Nick Cave, Nina Simone, Johnny Cash. Older, simpler records.

:42:11. > :42:15.And you hear that element in these records. Is it very different to

:42:16. > :42:21.operating with Depeche Mode? Yes, it is totally different. For me on

:42:22. > :42:27.feeds the other. We have been doing this for the best part of the last

:42:28. > :42:32.five years. Yes, it is very different, but you have got to move

:42:33. > :42:38.those muscles. Get out of the comfort zone and have a swim. We

:42:39. > :42:43.have got the old times on here and we are going to plunge down it in a

:42:44. > :42:52.fearless way. Here we go. Sorry about this.

:42:53. > :42:58.# Transition to another place and the time will pass more slowly.

:42:59. > :43:03.Complicating, circulating, new life, new life.

:43:04. > :43:16.# Operating, generating, new life, new life.

:43:17. > :43:21.'S. -- APPLAUSE. Thanks for that. I worked hard on that haircut. There

:43:22. > :43:30.was no gel in those days. Do you remember those songs? I don't think

:43:31. > :43:34.he was alive! You have been doing a lot of shows and you're going to be

:43:35. > :43:37.doing some more. Is a very different to tour with Depeche Mode? I don't

:43:38. > :43:43.think you are playing big stadiums here, you're playing in theatres.

:43:44. > :43:51.Definitely. It is more intimate. We have done some gigs in the states.

:43:52. > :44:01.Next is Berlin. And Paris and Milan. The next thing you're going to play

:44:02. > :44:09.is You Owe Me, where did that title come from? I don't know where it

:44:10. > :44:15.comes from. I hear music and words start flying around. And then it's

:44:16. > :44:20.trying to sort of control it somehow. The song takes on its own

:44:21. > :44:31.life and then you have just got to get in the. So someone owes me. We

:44:32. > :44:36.look forward to that. Pop into Berlin and Paris and catch them. And

:44:37. > :44:39.our next artist from there. They are amazing, incredible. Here they are.

:44:40. > :48:10.From Paris, please welcome, Caravan Palace.

:48:11. > :48:21.Caravan Palace. The song, tattooed. Excellent dancing. And now we go

:48:22. > :48:25.back over here, changing atmosphere beautifully again. Feeling good

:48:26. > :48:31.over? Anybody you are lacking in the room in particular? Where are we

:48:32. > :48:35.going next? Thank goodness I can seamlessly go over there. I said

:48:36. > :48:38.they were from New York but I have discovered an careful investigation

:48:39. > :48:41.they are from Nashville. From Nashville, we welcome Bela Fleck and

:48:42. > :51:40.Abigail Washburn one. # A sour reminder of how hard I've

:51:41. > :51:57.tried. # I'm easy to hold but

:51:58. > :54:07.so hard to please. # Easy to hold but

:54:08. > :56:01.so hard to please. Thank you, Dave Gahan. You Owe Me

:56:02. > :56:05.from the new LP. Before that, we enjoyed Bela Fleck and Abigail

:56:06. > :56:09.Washburn. They have now been swept away. And now let's enjoy the

:56:10. > :56:51.exquisite voice of Guy Garvey. # And buckled every joint

:56:52. > :56:54.# It parted me from truth # I will walk into its mouth and I

:56:55. > :57:35.will breakfast # I will walk into its mouth and I

:57:36. > :57:42.will breakfast # I cannot speak its name but I

:57:43. > :57:50.would walk into its mouth and I # Would breakfast in the belly of

:57:51. > :57:54.the whale # I cannot speak its name but I

:57:55. > :57:59.would walk into its mouth and I # Would breakfast in the belly of

:58:00. > :58:17.the whale # That house I built skinned my

:58:18. > :58:24.knuckles # That house I built picked my

:58:25. > :58:28.pockets # Parted me from youth and any truth

:58:29. > :58:42.I knew # That house, that house, I

:58:43. > :58:45.realised, turned my eyes to # I'm never going to dance again.

:58:46. > :59:23.I have guilty feet. # I cannot speak its name but I

:59:24. > :59:27.would walk into its mouth and I # Would breakfast in the belly of

:59:28. > :59:31.the whale # I cannot speak its name but I

:59:32. > :59:34.would walk into its mouth and I # Would breakfast in the belly of

:59:35. > :59:39.the whale # I cannot speak its name but I
